Reviews (page 2 of 9)

Hook-driven pop music with a hair metal edge (mainly in guitar riffs and solos), because it was the popular genre at the time, loud drums and big crowd-like back vocals tailored for the arenas don't necessarily make a good album. Bon Jovi's big breakthrough album was a smash hit when it came out, but it really hasn't aged well. A lot of the hits from this album (Livin' On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name) are still played regularly on Classic Rock radio stations nowadays (2021) in my hometown and we're kinda saturated tbh !

If you view this as a bit of fun and not to be taken too seriously, it certainly passes.

Ooooh so cheesy.

Shitty synth patches and drum machines destroy whatever impact this music might have had. And let's just say that David Gray's voice is an acquired taste. The compositions are utterly undistinguished as are the arrangements. Bland and forgettable middle of the road pop. I can't speak to the lyrics because I couldn't get past the music.

Beu Jovi

Bon Jovi ROCKS!!! 🤘 In like a sort of Gen X, classic rock radio kind of way. They play a commercial for Naproxen and your local mattress store before coming back with "15 minutes of non-stop ROCK!" and they kick it off with Livin' on a Prayer. What I'm saying is that in the wide world of rock music, from Deep Purple to King Gizzard, Bon Jovi is kind of lame. A little fun, but also a little lame. It feels like Jovi is performing rock, but is never really hitting the mark. Oh, and the b-sides are b-sides. It probably has a reason to be here.

Average

Without Love and Wild in the Streets are pretty good.

Some good melodies and production but nothing memorable 5/10

Generic 80s rock. Solid "eh"

Pop-metal, flere kendte sange, høj energi

arggh, didn't finish this one - I acknowledge the importance, but too much exposure for it to be fresh

Hard rock with no edge. 2nd rate Bruce Springsteen lyrics to let you know they’re from New Jersey. This is my least favorite genre of music. Hard pass.

Awful, cheesy, milquetoast garbage. Even the well known anthems have become annoying instaskips at this point. 1/5

I think this is the kind of 80's music I dislike the most...

Music for a demographic that exclusively uses the word "banger" to describe the music they like.

Yeah, no, I'm not listening to this, thanks though

Now this is just awesomely fun rock and roll. While it may not be your cup of tea it ruled the airwaves in the mid 80s and set a course for what became a great band.

Great!!

I get that a lot of people don’t like Bon Jovi. Well I do and I give this album 5 stars.

An album of classics and I only knew 2 of the songs

Fuck yes.

OHHHH WE'RE HALFWAY THEREEEEE OHHHHH LIVING ON A PRAYERRRRRRR

Amazing album

A few absolute megahits surrounded by some lesser known but still fun songs. I had a good time at least. I’m surprised so many people seem to hate Bon Jovi.

Peak Hair Metal and nothing wrong with that. No need to over analyse it! I’d forgotten how bloody good it is from start to finish. Every track could have been a Single. It’s just chock full of bangers. Like a Time Machine for me….I instantly picture the dashboard of my first car listening to this - the tape was practically worn out it was played so much. Solid 5

Wow yeah crack that all the way up none of these songs are bad. I think a 5 out of 5 is a crime. If I could give it a 10 out of 5 I would.

28 million copies sold. 3 smash hits (You Give Love a Bad Name, Livin’ on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive). It’s an absolute must listen.

The album that put Bon Jovi on the map, so many great tracks, and perhaps the greatest rock anthem of all time. And the fact that I'm not talking about "Livin' on A Prayer" says it all. 5 stars all around. Highlights: "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Livin' on A Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive"

Uno de los mejores albumes del mundo

This might be the one album I've really been waiting for since day 1 because I have a minor Bon Jovi thing and it's incredibly upsetting to have only 1 of their albums on this list (whilst freaking Nick Cave gets 5). Apart from doing this, I very rarely listen to albums in their entirety and so coming across an album where I know every song and the majority of the lyrics is kind of unusual. So yes, that definitely skews my review and helps me look past some of the admittedly cheesy songs but the cheesiness is what makes them iconic songs and part of the reason why I love them so much.

Pinnacle of glamrock? Maybe.

MUITO BOM

rock on

PURE HITS

Solid hair metal. My Metallica loving 14 year old self would have given this an angry 1. But my love of hair metal runs deep. So, though it is certainly no Master of Puppets, I'm going 5.

10/10. É o Bon Jovi no auge.

Iconic.

I get it. I get the Bon Jovi hype. I understand why everyone loved him.

Absolute-masterpiece, loved it, more of these, pls ❣️

This is like if Neil Diamond or a yacht rocker went hard! It’s cheesy. However, it slays.

5 stars - This is my childhood right here. I listened to this album often sometimes two or three times a week and certain songs every day. Absolutely, a generation defining record.

This was fuckn amazing! I like the way it is ripe and fast, true 80's rock n roll, but it has sweetness and emotions in a romantic way

> the Beatles I wasn't gonna give it 5 stars but by my own metric, if this album came on at a party, I would be belting every word...

Full of classics

2 Billion + Plays songs on this album "You Give Love a Bad Name" & "Livin' On A Prayer" at 2B. This might be one of my favorite albums of all time.

Hell yeah! Great rock with some classics on this album!

Foundational rock, and Living on a Prayer was my favorite song as a child. Amazing, intense instrumentation with such classic vocals.

holy grail of rock

A great and legendary album. I don't think I have anything to add to this Fav songs - You Give Love A Bad Name, I'd Die For You 5/5

Generational bangers up and down the album. Possibly the sound of 80's rock. Reminded me of Sticky Fingers by the Stones from name, banger, etc. I remember getting out of a Sigur Ros show at the Ryman in Nashville the same time as a Bon Jovi show next door. I overheard a woman coming out say "y'all... I can now honestly say I've lived my life!" This is a ton of people's favorite album and artist.

One of my favorite Bon Jovi albums. Just so many bangers to sing along to… but sadly I’m dealing with the flu as this choice came up, and I couldn’t sing along without immediately coughing. *Sadface*

yes yes that was great

Catchy, hooks you in immediately and has the power to sustain throughout. Fully understand why Jbj became a star off this. Added to the library.

Maybe biased for this album - on a family holiday when I was 9, Cross Road was the only album anyone brought. There's quite a few songs from SWW on this album, so it brings back very good memories. 233.

no skips

Loved this album growing up. Livin on a prayer, Wanted dead or alive, You give love a bad name. Classics.

10/10 - some absolute university bangers on here, also perfect length of an album, nothing exaggerated

20/10/2025 A classic. Say no more. Spotify listeners: 30.6 million.

Everything is good

This album makes me feel exactly like I did when I bought it on cassette at age 11, but now I know what the lyrics mean. "Johnny used to work on the docks. Union's been on strike, he's down on his luck, it's tough." I'm sure I shouted that at the top of my lungs at the 6th grade dance but what did I know? Still, it rocked then. It rocks now.

Huge album, still relevant 40 years on Named after a trip to a strip club :)

Ca motive !!!

So many all time classics. The quintessential rock album.

Bon Jovi, the rocker who smiles. Greatness.

I'd love to rate this higher. It's a huge piece of the soundtrack of my formative years and it brings back a lot of memories. Which, isn't music supposed to do that? If music is creating an emotional response, good, bad or otherwise, isn't that what most song writers would love to hear? So fuck it, I'll give it 5 stars on that alone.

No clue how anyone hates this, one of the best pop records ever made. This album FLIES by because it's just banger after banger after banger. Super catchy and fun to sing along to, and some sick guitar playing too!!

I didn't know until listening to this album four times on repeat that Bon Jovi are really great and I love them. Peak 80s.

I chose not to be a hater

Banger after banger. What an intro track!

Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer~

Bedrövlig underbar musik

Good album

Original review is spot on! "How my teenage angst and young broken heart are thankful for Bon Jovi. “Cross Road” never left my ears, and that compilation album wouldn’t be half what it is without “Slippery When Wet”! It doesn’t surprise me to see so many low ratings from the haters, just makes me love it more… 5+"

One of my favourite bands and one of their best albums, can’t go wrong! Beautifully 1980s rock all the way through

Every 80’s girl will love this. Some really great songs here.

Like all the hits on one album. Difficult to not dig.

Not too shabby

Legendary album !

Livin on a Prayer is one of my 50 or so favorite songs of all time. The added bonus of Wanted Dead or Alive and You Give Love a Bad Name along with underrated bangers like Raise Your Hands pushes this to 5 stars

actually not one bad song on this album, so many classics on here aswell!! bless him his voice sounds so painful but it adds to it, love you bon jovi 😜

I thought the "crowd singing" effect was a one-time thing in Livin' On A Prayer, but it turns out it's used in pretty much every track. The mixing places Bon Jovi's vocal dead centre, with a group audience behind the listener mirroring the vocals. Really tricks the 1986 listener into thinking these songs are more beloved than they are. Which is pretty genius if you think about it. This was the band's breakthrough album and it has the huge, stadium-esque sound to match it. Plus, having three instantly recognisable megahits in one album is a bit unfair. Give the other albums on the list some room to breathe, will ya? The remaining tracks aren't too bad either. If any of the songs on a record could have plausibly been a global hit single, you know you've done something right. I like the lead vocal. The singer is a pretty typical rock screamer but it works wonders for this style. The arrangement is almost a textbook level of perfection. Incredible riffs in the lead guitar, bass, and synths. Generally great instrument arrangement (the tried-and-true guitar/bass/vocal/drums plus some synths here and there for the 80s flavour). Gritty rock melodies and chords. Maybe a slight overreliance on VIb-VIIb-I progressions, but I don't mind it. Less wishwashy than the infamous "80s production" which is definitely a relief. Livin' On A Prayer, as iconic as it is, doesn't even crack the top 3 tracks on the album because of how dang good some of the "lesser" hits are. Also, as another reviewer wrote: "was going to give this a 4. It's a great album. However, I am going to up that to a 5 as a finger to all of the unfun people who take music so seriously." Yeah. Take that, hippies. 5/5 Key tracks: You Give Love A Bad Name, Social Disease, Wanted Dead Or Alive

Banger

Every song sounds the same but in a different font. Overall great album though

yeah you could come into my bedroom in the middle of the night while i'm having the deepest sleep of my life and scream "SHOT THROUGH THE HEART" at me and I'd jump out of the bed and return "AND YOU'RE TO BLAME" 5/5

Love this album. Hair rock ftw!

Like a greatest karaoke hits album.

There are a lot of bad hair metal albums out there. This is not one of them. Even if the genre might be played out, this still stands as an example of how it can be done right.

One of the best rock albums ever. Up there with appetite and others. Hit after hit after hit simply a perfect stoorm and mix of love and disdain and rocking non stopping.

I grew up thinking Bon Jovi was such a lame guy, like a fake rock and roller. But as I've gotten older and started to embrace music from other era's as not being "corny" but taking them more for what they are, I've really grown to appreciate this stuff. This album rocks really hard, and right from the start you get some crazy high energy guitar shred right into Bon Jovi's awesome soaring voice. He's a great singer and front man and sounds great on top of these tracks. "You Give Love A Bad Name" is one of the more memorable songs of the 1980's. I'm noticing that I write a lot in my reviews "This song is one of the best of the 19XX's", but I can't help it and I'm not the most eloquent person so forgive me there but yea... this is one of the best songs of the 1980s, same with "Livin' On A Prayer". Both of these tracks sync together so well- it's hard to describe but I can picture being in the studio or in the practice room and having these choruses just appear out of thin air and looking around the room like "holy shit we've got something here". That feeling is my favorite thing about being a songwriter. The bass line on "Livin' On A Prayer" is so great. It's very simple but there's a lot of complexity in the chord progression there for a 1980's pop rock song. How great is the bass part again at the big key change at 3:25? It's so fun! And that talk-box guitar part is so special and a color that is seldom used. Yet another timeless chorus too. "Wanted Dead Or Alive" is really the third part of the trident of sick tracks on this album, even if it falls behind the two other hits in play counts (as per Spotify). This song I think is one of my mom's favorites, I feel like I heard it a trillion times growing up but I'm not sick of it; in fact, I'm going to play it twice today. "ON A STEEL HORSE I RIDE" Great album cover. For me this is a high 4, like a 4.8, and enough to round up to a 5 (which is rare for me to round a high 4 up). The three big hits are so monstrous that they propel this album into the stratosphere of "truly great".

How my teenage angst and young broken heart are thankful for Bon Jovi. “Cross Road” never left my ears, and that compilation album wouldn’t be half what it is without “Slippery When Wet”! It doesn’t surprise me to see so many low ratings from the haters, just makes me love it more… 5+

it's funny I know You Give Love A Bad Name so well and hear it all the time. But I never would have been able to tell you who sings it. lol Livin on a prayer too! Well I was only going to give this a 4 because I never really was into Bon Jovi but the fact that it had so many hits and the nostalgia feelings it gave me when I was walking during my lunch and listening to this, deserves a 5.

Way overblown, way overly-theatrical, and absolutely brilliant. So many unexpected favourites that I hadn’t heard before, besides the big hits. Without Love, Raise Your Hands and Let It Rock were awesome.

My sister had this album on cassette tape when I was a kid and we listened to it quite a number of times. I know all of the song pretty well, and love them all. Definitely peak Bon Jovi in my opinion. I listened to it twice and could have gone more, five stars easily.

So this was pretty great back then and stands up after all this time. Wanted Dead or Alive will always be a massive song and this will remain a all time great LP

Bon Jovi’s best hits

i love bon jovi

Awesome album. Apart from the radio hits, there are 3 or 4 other great songs on here. My ear could be clouded by nostalgia since this was a huge album in my house when I was a kid. Either way, it's a romp back through the '80s for me.

Bangin

Look, I get why hair metal gets a bad rap. Or at least, I can imagine the general perception of hair metal. To a lot of people, not just headbangers and metal purists, it can be a joke to even call these groups "metal" in the first place. Bands like Poison are a lot closer to 'NSYNC than they are to something like Metallica. I mean, you listen to "Unskinny Bop" — you call that a "metal" riff? It's not even heavy! And, y'know, they got all these upbeat "nuthin' but a good time" drinkin' n' partyin' fun times songs about girls, girls, girls... And it's like, unless you're Guns N' Roses, there's rarely any danger or edge to this kinda music. You could play this stuff to your grandma, and at most she might ask about how much hairspray they inhale. It's never been a very respected genre, in short. Sure, the Sunset Strip might've brought in the big bucks, but they were always gonna be a punchline next to acts like Venom and Slayer. And as much as I can understand that, frankly, I don't care. To me, hair metal was never about how real or heavy or dangerous they are — it's just fun music. That's all I ask from them, so I really can't complain, can I? I mean, goodness, I'm the kinda person who unironically enjoys the ROCK OF AGES movie soundtrack, 'coz I enjoy the genre (and GLEE-style theater kid Broadway covers, I guess) that much. (And, y'know, in light of what I said above, it's funny that the movie ROCK OF AGES wants to act like ending up in a pop boy band is such a terrible fate — worse than a stripper! — but that's completely off-topic...) One of the bands covered in the show and on the soundtrack is — hey, hey, I get to tie back in with the review topic: Bon Jovi! Which... Actually, it's funny. Despite my pre-amble, I don't... Entirely consider Bon Jovi to be hair metal? No, honestly, I've kind of always slotted them in more alongside arena rock. Journey and all that. Which is another genre widely derided, labelled "corporate rock..." And, y'know, I don't care about that perception either. Look, lemme jus' cut to the chase: I love this album. A lot. Wall to wall, it's fun, upbeat, and poppy. The chorus of "You Give Love A Bad Name"? So much fun to sing and shout along to. The whole vibe of "Wanted Dead Or Alive"? So badass. The talkbox riff on "Livin' On A Prayer"? Iconic, and also a blast to try and imitate. And that's not even bringing up the **key change**. Abrupt? Oh, for sure; it comes straight damn outta nowhere. But at the same time, it's **amazing**. The way Jon goes for that "WOOOOAAAH-OOOOOAH!!!!!" is... Like, gosh, it's cheesy in the greatest possible way. I mean, there's a damn good reason these songs have stuck around for as long as they have; they're straight-up classics, full stop. It's impossible to not wanna crank these up as loud as you can. But those are just the singles. They're monsters, in and out of the context of the album. How do the rest of the songs hold up? OK, so this might sound like a back-handed compliment, but I mean this in the nicest, most-positive way possible: they're good enough that they don't bring the rest of the album down.'Cuz of course, they were always gonna be "lows" in comparison, but that's just because the album's hits tower so highly in general. These deeper cuts are still a lot of fun on their own, and keep the energy up. I can't imagine any song other than "Let It Rock" kicking things off. "Social Disease" has, y'know, **an opening**, but damn if I don't dig those horns. "Without Love" and **especially** "Never Say Goodbye" are as good of hair ballads as you can get. And "Wild In The Street" — now **that's** the best non-single on the album, honestly. Burner of an album closer. Honestly, in regards to these songs, I feel like the worst thing I can say about this album is that it's front-loaded. All of the singles, the best songs on the album, are on the first side. I'll stand by the deeper cuts, of course, but I can't blame people for never playing side two. (Also, "I'd Die For You" is probably the weakest song here, but I can give it a pass.) All n' all and all around, I think from my tone you've already assumed that this album is a 5. It's just a blast, front to back. Any complaints I have, they're outweighed tenfold by how much I enjoy listening to this. I mean, that's just hair metal for you, as long as you're not thinking too hard about it. This was an incredibly fun one to get on Christmas Eve, and I can only hope the one my group gets tomorrow can match up. (And seriously — that boy band parody is actually the best song from the ROCK OF AGES movie? Seriously, it rules.)

Easy, easy 5 – probably a 10, really. I knew this was the one with the big 3 hits of “You Give Love a Bad Name”, “Livin’ on a Prayer”, and “Wanted Dead or Alive” – it was always going to get a 3, bare minimum because of those 3 tracks. The real question, for me, was simply if the rest of the album would live up to the remarkably high bar of those tracks. It did that, and more – I’m really annoyed at myself for not digging deeper into this album; everything on here just fucking kicks ass. Say what you will about 80s rock like this – yes, it’s been overplayed to hell & parodied to the point where some of these tracks have lost some of the same impact they had 38 years ago… but I just don’t fucking care, man. When it rips, it rips, and this album rips in the fastest 44 minutes I can remember. Let It Rock is a fantastic opener where the charisma of the album oozes in spades immediately, followed by the starstudded 1-2 punch of You Give Love a Bad Name & Livin’ on a Prayer – I am genuinely hard pressed to think of any other 80s rock album that has a 2-track stretch comparable to that. Social Disease is fun; bit of a Phil Collins vibe in the percussion, and it’s baked in a lot of 80s production tricks that just fit my tastes. Wanted Dead or Alive is the other of the big 3 here, and this is my first time realizing that he’s been singing about the band the whole time (“steel horse” should’ve been obvious, I know). The first half of this album is just banger after banger. Past that, the entire second half of the album was blind to me, but man, it fucking rocks – Raise Your Hands has a Britpop structure with an American edge that elevates the track for me, and feels like a great stadium cut. Without Love is drenched in a pop song structure, and reminds me a lot of Jefferson Starship, but that’s part of why I liked it a lot. I’d Die For You feels like this hybrid of The Police & Journey that clicked really well for me, if a little cheesy in the chorus. If I have any complaint, it’s that Wild in the Streets & Never Say Goodbye should’ve flipped their track order – they both rock, with Wild in the Streets feeling like a very Springsteen-esque cut, but Never Say Goodbye is like, custom made to end concerts, and it should’ve ended this album. Ultimately, this is just pure 80s heavy glam metal at one of its finest points, and I’m a pure sucker for it. Perhaps it just struck me really well on a first listen, but I think I'll be coming back to this one for a while. I really do wish I had heard some of these tracks before now, but better late than never – it’s a very easy 5 for my tastes, and it just fucking rules. We gotta get more tracks with key changes in these 1,001 albums.

gosh i love the energy the drums bring. definitely added for future reference.

So many good songs on here

This is an album with some serious hits, that do still hold up. If you want a good example of classic rock, worth a listen.

Whoa we're halfway there... whoaaa oh livin on a prayer!!!! 🤘🏻 I was so excited to see this on my list!!!! I already knew I liked it, and was nice to relisten for the first time in years. Theres big tunes on this tracklist, but also some hidden gems My mum had this album, and as a teenager I would go through her cd collection and put any good ones on my ipod. Slippery When Wet was one of the few albums I copied over in full! I really really enjoyed it 5 ⭐️

Absolute banger of an album. This is a perfect album for cruising down the highway on a road trip. Three of their iconic hits came of of this album. I love the organ on the opening track playing around with the theme from Wanted Dead or Alive. Extremely fun listen start to finish.

Oh yeah this is an EASY 5 iconic album

Brilliant. I played this album to death when it first came out.

I still know every word to every track. Somewhere along the line Bon Jovi stopped being rebellious and became my mom’s band.

I actually groaned out loud when I got this as my album of the day. I had it in my head that Bon Jovi is crap. I went into it thinking I was going to hate it and then the strangest thing happened. I started to like it. A lot. This album is basically just hair metal/arena rock. Big guitars and drums with really catchy riffs, hooks and solos. Singalong choruses, crisp production. Dad rock but with more hairspray. There are a couple of criticisms. Firstly, I would have rather this album lean slightly more towards the hard rock and heavy metal side of things instead of pop, but that's purely just personal preference. Secondly, I still think 'Livin' on a Prayer' is very overplayed, butchered to death on karaoke and probably my least favourite track on here. Thirdly and most importantly. Jon Bon Jovi's voice. It's difficult to describe, but I'll try. It's like he's putting on a "cool" voice, like his upper lip is curled up whilst singing. There's a certain whine to it. It isn't quite rough, raspy and harsh, and it isn't quite as clean as a whistle, it's this really awkward middle ground and despite how objectively good at singing he may be, I'm not a fan. Plus his diction when singing those high notes is pretty bad. Despite this though, it's not quite enough for me to take away a star from the rating. This is a really fun album, just don't take it too seriously. I enjoyed this a hell of a lot, and I hate myself for saying that.

80’s rock

Some of these other reviewers need to get their nose out of the air, their head out of their asses, and stop taking music (and themselves) so seriously. Is this the absolute peak of music?? No, but welcome to the music industry. They find what sells and duplicate to oblivion! With multiple tracks with over a billion plays on Spotify, this is a mega album. It’s fun, high energy, nice solos. I think I’d typically rate this 4/5 but I’m rating up to stick it to the sticks-in-the-mud that think they’re too good for this hair metal.. screw them

Excited the moment I saw the album cover. I remember jamming out to this album because of my older sister. OMG, Young Guns! 10 years old. Sis is 10 years older. The album was on the player already. I wasn't supposed to play with it, but I knew how. Let it Rock...

Astonishing, I could hear that again

This album features many classics, some of which practically everyone knows. Livin' On A Prayer is the first song that comes to mind when thinking about Bon Jovi, and for a good reason. Powerful synths dominate throughout, which is definitely an acquired taste for a metalhead like me. Overall the entire album was a great listen, the first half being a solid 5/5 and the second being a great 4/5. Therefore, 4.5/5 for this landmark of an album.

holy damn, no, holy GLAM. i can feel the fishnet tights and the fuzzy blonde hair. there's certainly no denying that this album is a prime example of what makes jon bon jovi's music memorable. belting scratchy lead vocals, deep power strummed guitars, dramatic (and maybe a little cheesy) synthesizers... this album will blow your speakers and your socks clean off. there's the classic tunes like living on a prayer and you give love a bad name, and the other tracks featured throughout are on a similar rockin' sing-along energy. i really enjoyed this one. play this album to your dad and he'll probably love you to death.

Hall of Fame.

Alright time for some radical candor: the very first type of music that I liked, other than like the Barney theme song, was 80's hair metal. The first albums I purchased were the Monsters of Rock and Monster Ballads compilation records. Poison, Whitesnake, Ratt, Def Leppard, etc. I won't say I'm necessarily proud of it, but not embarrassed either. And of course I still have a soft spot for this type of stuff. I recognize that this music is not great, hell it's barely even music in some sense, but nostalgia is the most powerful force on earth, and I will be god damned if I did not sing along to almost every word of most of the songs in this album and have the time of my life. So this is not a 5 (it's like a 2.5) to my brain, but in my heart and my balls I feel it is a 5, and that is what it is getting. I guess it's the bad medicine that I need ;)

Banger after banger after banger after...

A glorious representation of glam metal/pop metal complete with cheesy power ballads and rockin tunes. This album has most of Bon Jovi's best songs in one spot! Fantastic record! Favourite songs: Livin' On a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive, Raise Your Hands, I'd Die For You, Social Disease, Let it Rock, Wild in the Streets, Without Love Least favourite songs: Never Say Goodbye 5/5

The worst part about listening to this album is that I couldn’t listen to it with fresh ears. Too many iconic rock anthems. Electrifying music. Certainly an album to listen to before you die. Standouts: You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin’ On A Prayer, Wanted Dead Or Alive, Raise Your Hands, Without Love, and Never Say Goodbye.

Incredible album. Livin’ on a Prayer, Shot through the Heart, Wanted Dead or Alive, and Raise Your Hand are on this one.

Bon Jovi make me very happy and I'm not afraid to admit it any more

Hard rock de Bon Jovi. Megahits a gogó. Vinilo.

Social Disease is kinda weird on the intro

So iconic he became a caricature of himself.

Banger after banger from Millie’s father-in-law. “Livin’” and “You Give Love” AND “Wanted” on one album is crazy!

Classic Rock. Cant go wrong with Bon jovi

A 80's classic. These musics never gets old.

My “Born in the USA” review can be applied to this, pretty much verbatim. Must be a Jersey thing.

This album is full of bangers. I like every song.

Some absolute bangers on here

Knew this album had some hits but was surprised at how many of these songs I knew and how quickly the album went by.

One of my favourite albums growing up as a kid. Wanted dead or alive from young guns!!! Love it

A lot of a bangers

This might as well be a Bon jovi greatest hits album. So many classic songs, no filler tracks everything is super clean and interesting. Guitar solos are epic, production is top notch, this album is S teir for SURE

Always loved this album, just such good energy and some classically fun james!

It's perfect. It's so many of the Bon Jovi classics in one package. I'd actually be hard pressed to name a Bon Jovi song I know that ISN'T on this album.

Classic

Cracking songs, cracking hair, what's not to love?

One of the Iconic bands of the late 1900s and early 2000s. 5/5

Wow, flashback! Where do I even begin? I was unhealthily obsessed with Bon Jovi, specifically Jon Bon Jovi, when I was a girl in high school. To me, he was the sexiest most incredible man alive and I wanted him to be mine real bad. I loved his hair and his smile and his raspy scratchy voice. I loved his squinty eyes and his tight little ass. Omg, he was my dream!! I therefore know every single word to every single Bon Jovi song on every single album of theirs from the self-titled debut all the way through to Crush. This is by far their best stuff, but honestly all 80s and early 90s Jovi still slaps. It’s so corny but comfy like a favourite old pair of boots too. Cowboy boots. I don’t listen to them regularly anymore because I’ve long outgrown my crush, but Jon can still get today, he is a fox at any age. Rating generously for the memories.

Love it

BON JOVI FOREVER!!!!!!!!!! I may be biased but Bon Jovi is the GOAT and my favorite band of all time!!!!

I enjoy this record, I don't think it is a 5er, but my wife does and I am grateful to skew the numbers on her behalf. She, like this album, is pretty great.

Not the biggest Bon Jovi Fan, but man, this album is fun... And at least 4 top hits on it that most people will recognize, which is incredible... Musically it is great, all instruments are clearly audible and complement each other beautifully. Easy rating...

Got Wild In the Streets when I listened to this one and now I’m Wanted Dead or Alive.

This is a great rock album. John has great vocals with solid guitar and drums. Best album that we have had in a while.

This album did not give itself a bad name.

"pop metal", according to Spotify. Good fun, great voice

One of my favourites

One of my favorite albums from the mid 80s. I was definitely a product of the MTv. Bon Jovi ruled the airwaves with the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Van Halen, Journey and other legendary acts. This album takes me back to 8th grade, hoping to passively impress the girls in class then realizing they were all listening to Depeche Mode anyway. Lol. They missed out! Even though I cannot (in good conscience) say that this is the best album, musically, ever written, it has several huge hits that still entertain audiences today. For nostalgia, it gets the golden ticket! I have played about half of the songs on the album in some venue or another over the years. I am actually involved with a group of former touring musicians that play a send off pep rally at a local high school every year. The principal sings most of the songs. The kids absolutely eat it up. Feels like the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. That’s this week. We will be playing You Give Love a Bad Name and Livin’ on a Prayer and you so t be able to hear anything for their screams. That’s stayin’ power!

Hard rock de Bon Jovi. Megahits a gogó. Vinilo.

This album makes me think of Rosie :) perfect to dance and lip sync to on a Monday morning so it feels like the week could be fun after all. Melodramatic, campy and had a wonderful time 10/10

Old classic!

4.6 very good album. A bunch of forgotten classics.

ok this album kinda slaps. this was a lot better than i expected, having only heard the three huge singles from this before now. the less-known tracks still pack a punch and have a great energy and sound to them overall. while i got Runaway vibes from it (my favorite JBJ song), my finacee said that the opening of I'd Die for You sounds like the original Pokemon anime theme song which is completely spot on. this is kind of a 4.5 for me but i so rarely give albums 5 stars on here, what the hey favorites: you give love a bad name, livin on a prayer, wanted dead or alive, raise your hands, i'd die for you

Wish I could give it a 6

I think the scales tipped towards a five on this guy not because it is so good and I didn't realize all of these songs were on one album, but because the playlist Spotify played when it was over was incredible. Cyndi Lauper, Bryan Adams, Toto, Kansas... just so good.

Classic masterpiece

Solo voy por Livin' On A Prayer and its already a 10. Unos cracks. 10/10.

Fuck the haters....that's a 5 from me dawg.

I.con.ic voice of the 80s. So many bangers. 5/5

really nice

Iconic rock album! Very first full Bob Jovi album I’ve listened to from beginning to end and I loved it!

DISCAZO

This is the soundtrack of my youth

"Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi is a classic rock album that has stood the test of time since its release in 1986. This album is filled with energetic, anthemic rock songs that showcase the band's talent and charisma. Tracks like "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Livin' on a Prayer," and "Wanted Dead or Alive" are timeless rock anthems that have become staples of the genre. These songs are filled with catchy hooks, powerful vocals, and driving guitar riffs that make them irresistible to rock fans. Beyond its commercial success, "Slippery When Wet" is an album that captures the spirit of the 1980s rock scene. It's a record that's meant to be played loud, with its infectious energy and memorable melodies. Overall, "Slippery When Wet" is a quintessential rock album that deserves its status as a classic. It's a must-listen for any fan of rock music and earns a perfect 5/5 rating for its enduring appeal and timeless quality.

great music, lyrics, sounds

This album has the theme song for Deadliest Catch so this is an automatic 5 stars. Overall this is a pretty epic album.

SPECTACULAR

Everything cliché about the 80s and New Jersey. Not great music, but fun and good enough for a Friday night.

looking at the reviews it's clear that all the people who gave it negative reviews are either music snobs or just don't like having fun. this album isn't perfect, but there's a reason why everyone knows its mega hits. it's simple and cliche but this is a catchy rock album for the ages. also the alternative cover art is better

Yeah!!

Best album of the 80’s per Chris Lessing (Okc)

Had my first car accident listening to Slippery When Wet. 5/5

A classic.

What an ablum. They dont make them likexthat anymore. 10/10

Three absolute bad ass songs, and then the rest holds serve.

Solid rock album

Iconic and enduring. Took the late 80's by storm and encompassed the vibe of rock at the time.

This came out when I was 15. I remember all the hits being on MTV everyday. I'm sure my brother had this on tape. Probably the best hair metal album there is. I saw Bon Jovi open for Scorpions in '84 and Ratt in '85. Good times.

An absolute classic.

This album got me pregnant.

So many bangers. Yay for 80s hair bands.

Standalone radio banner after standalone radio banger.

Great album. Remember the good old times.

An absolute classic from start to finish. While the three biggest songs from this album are among the most well known and popular songs of their era, this album is great song after great song. Without Love & I’d Die For You could’ve been huge singles had they been released as such at the time. A true five star album by every metric for me. You can’t listen to this album and not help but smile.

I can’t believe how many of their most famous songs are on this one album. It’s so good.

Epic album that made hair bands so accessible.

Amazing! Great soumds, cool stories and all time classics. Love it!

Listened to this on repeat all day and just fantastic start to finish.

Banger after Banger

'80s was best decade of the 20th century, by far. And it would had not been the same without this record

Bon Jovi at their Bonniest and their Joviest.

Great collection of songs that are absolute classics. Not much more you could ask for in a single release. These songs defined a decade.

my childhood in an album

Damn, when did I start unironically enjoying cheesy 80s hair metal? I thought this was a banger of an album to be honest, with quite a few songs I already knew well, a couple of great songs that were new to me and one or two I didn't much care for, but overall I can't fault this at all. I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting. Favourite: I'd Die For You

An impress list of all-timers throughout this album. Even the lesser known songs are so damned catchy and well-performed. This is an ascending rock band at the point where they’re going to takeoff. A true moment in 1980s rock n roll.

beautiful. i love rock. long live bon jovi!

Absolutely excellent album. 5/5

This is a great, fun album with some knockout tracks!

A classic. The hits are all fantastic: #2 You Give Love A Bad Name, #3 Livin On A Prayer, #5 Wanted Dead or Alive, & #9 Never Say Goodbye.

Not liking this album is like not liking Top Gun. Is it the best thing ever made? Of course not, but just enjoy yourself and stop over thinking it.

Part of the greatness of the 80s

I've always enjoyed Bon Jovi and know he was a rock legend, but I never listened to anything but his greatest hits. Slippery When Wet is an incredible 80s rock album that doesn't slow down. It's basically all killer, no filler. 5/5. Favorite Track: Livin' On A Prayer

Absolute sing-a-long classic rock

This was the second album I ever fell in love with, all the way back in middle school, and it is still straight up fire through and through. The High point of hair metal.

Fuck, this is jampacked. I did not anticipate this many potent songs, I figured Bon Jovi had a bit more of a spread, but now I see they had an excellent birth of pop hair metal that really grabbed a stranglehold on Gen Xers everywhere.

a 5 just for having all of those hits

Hit after hit. There are few albums that scream 1986 as loudly as this one. Great songwriting and production land an album that still holds up!

omg I know this album so well

Absolute banger of an album, maybe it's just nostalgia from listening to this growing up, but I love it.

Just superb.

Cet album est à réécouter. Un classique du rock.

This is a great album full of tunes

Sarà pop? Sarà fatto "apposta" per piacere? Sarà poco profondo? Fa niente!

10/10 fire

YES. YES. YES. this album is everything I wanted and more. ‘80s rock is awesome. love bon jovi.

The good songs on here are sooo good. I grew up listening to the classic hits off of this album and they have nostalgia for me now. I don’t dislike any tracks and I’d say I like all of them, some I wouldn’t put on by choice but I definitely wouldn’t turn off. His voice is incredible and it’s such a good energetic album. I love me some classic rock action

Soundtrack to my adolescence!

Few big hits, others that are decent.

Aaaahhhhhhh maaaan I love Bon Jovi! What a record! It always gets me feeling frisky and in the mood to watch Power Rangers. There is no greater love in this crazy world than the beauty in Bon Jovi's voice and lyrics. Amen. I'm listening to it again right now.

Great album, very high energy a lot of classics

They honestly did put a lot of care into their albums in the 80s

stone cold 5

Nice throw back to the big hair era - some real well known tunes on there and some lesser favourites

The album that made hair metal an iconic moment of the 80s, combing pop with metal, with megahits that dominate radio and karaoke to this day. Production is spot on, BJ’s voice is great, Sambora is amazing, the album is the perfect 80s rock album

What a great album. 3-4 of Bon Jovi's biggest hits are on here and the rest of the songs are also not far behind in terms of quality. 80s rock at its finest

Classic rock album!

Super fun! All of the big singles score high on the slap-o-meter

This was a fun blast from the 80s. An album with so many sing-along singles but also just an awesome rock album.

So fun. I love this record. Takes me back. Back back back. Super fun!

‘86 KIX! This came out a few months after I graduated, but it remains inextricably tied to that time when I graduated from high school. Hair metal at its most refined! I fell in love with “Livin’ On A Prayer” from the first time I heard it. But this album is an embarrassment of hits. “Let It Rock,” “You Give Love A Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead Or Alive,” “Raise Your Hands,” “I’d Die For You” and “Never Say Goodbye” defined the sunset of my teens and remain incredible hits! And hearing the deeper cuts “Without Love” and “Wild In The Streets” I go right back and can sing along even though until a few minutes ago I hadn’t hear them in 30 years. Several of the songs on this album have stayed in the rotation over the last 30 years. But listening to it now I realize that I’ve forgotten more great Bon Jovi than I had been listening to. Now I have to figure out how I’m going to see this group live in concert for a long-overdue in-person Bon Jovi experience. But whether or not that ever happens, SLIPPERY WHEN WET is back and in permanent rotation. I haven’t had this much fun since I got snowed in at the Elks’ convention!

It it's time, it was smooth enough for connoisseurs and rough enough for ruffians.

My all-time favorite bands! Love every song

Just classic. So good.

Some great metal-ish music! Don't like the album cover but the songs are cool :) Favorite Track: Livin' on a Prayer In one word: Slaps

Fantastic album - lots of great hits on this and an easy listen. 9/10.

Yeahhh. More of this!

Jugend flash-back… hervorragend gealtert 👍🤘😎❤️

Still slaps hard. Who can resist Livin' on a Prayer?

every track is a banger

Great album! Well mastered and almost every track is a good listen.

Classic JBJ. Awesome album and all winners

Classic

An album consisting mostly of my favourite bon Jovi songs, how can this be less than a 5?

80s classic. I grew up on this and I genuinely really like the 80s hair metal rock as a sound. Can’t help but enjoy it. 4/5

A 'monster' album of my sixth form - the biggest billboard seller of 1987 and the first 'hair metal' album to have three top 10 singles on it. It is easy to forget how popular this band was - only Def Leppard sold more in the rock world at this time - and the influence that 'Wanted dead or alive' had on the Young Guns movies at the time. Jon Bon Jovi became New Jersey's second rock icon and his voice was impressive back then. 'Livin' on a prayer' and 'you give love a bad name' are now part of popular culture. I think side one is better overall and I find some of the big rock ballads a bit clawing but the band survived and in no small part to this album's appeal.

Muy bueno

This album is delightfully stupid and you’d have to just genuinely not enjoy fun to hate on it. Not every album in this book has to be high art to be good. This certainly isn’t, and it’s by far the best album I’ve had in over a week. It’s dumb, it doesn’t take itself seriously, and it’s a seriously good time. I could listen to nothing but this album for a week and still have a good time with it. It’s front loaded for sure, but the entire first half of the album is banger after banger after banger. Love the singing, love the solos, and the vibes?? Oh man, the vibes are good on this one. The only mood I’d have to be in to not want to listen to this one would be “literally dead”. “You Give Love A Bad Name”, “Livin’ On A Prayer”, and “Wanted Dead or Alive” are bonafine classics, and the rest of the album isn’t bad either. But those songs alone are worthy of a 4 star review. I have personal anecdotes for why I like 2 of those songs as much as I do, but regardless of that, they’re just good songs. In fact, despite having never heard this album from front to back until now, you can be certain that I recognized most of the songs on this album. Plus, all of them are fun to sing, preferably when you’re alone. “Livin’ On A Prayer” is yet another certified Guitar Hero classic banger, and “Wanted Dead Or Alive” was the theme song to the show Deadliest Catch. Both of those songs have deep sentimental value for me, and I’m still going to say “You Give Love A Bad Name” is my favorite song on the album because it’s just THAT good. The clapping, the solo, the background vocals, it’s all pretty peak. It’s the most fun to sing as well, in my opinion, and of the 3 classics, it’s probably the one I think about the most. Anyway, this is a classic album, and all of the hits are incredible songs. This is almost a 5, going to give it a 4.9 simply because the second half of the album is mostly forgettable and isn’t as good as the top half. Hell of a good pick for Bon Jovi. Very happy this album is on here. What a great change of pace from the albums I’ve been rolling lately. Now to see what the weekend album is.

Good ol' Bon Jovi!

Let It Rock - Amazing start, love the organ music in the beginning You Give Love A Bad Name - A classic! One of my favourite songs by the band, I've listened to it 170 times this year alone according to my Spotify stats which is a completely normal and sane amount! Livin' on a Prayer - One of the more famous tracks by Bon Jovi along with It's My Life, absolute banger as well! Social Disease - Not as good as the previous tracks but also very good Wanted Dead Or Alive - Loved the old western vibes throughout, also I did know this song as well (at least the chorus was familiar!) Raise Your Hands - Every album has at least one kind of forgettable song, this one was it for me. Without Love - There is something creepy about a grown ass man singing a love song about a woman he describes as "not young but still a child", just you know historically speaking, which is a shame that took me out of it because the song itself is good I'd Die For You - I will be so surprised if it turns out this song has never played in the background of some action movie scene Never Say Goodbye - Discovering I know way more Bon Jovi songs than I thought I did, but another great one! Wild In The Streets - Another mildly forgettable song, it was nice and upbeat though, I enjoyed it

I get it, I don't want to admit to liking Bon Jovi either, but come on everyone rating this low hates fun. Not all music needs to be a complex masterpiece, sometimes it just needs to be loud, have energy and be catchy as Hell. I would have never listened to this without this challenge, but I was pleasantly surprised even if Livin' On a Prayer still annoys me. It really is not a bad song, it has just been overplayed to death Favorite Track - Raise Your Hands Least Favorite Track - Livin' On a Prayer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Three all-timers is pretty significant. Dead or Alive is one of my favorite songs... and I really don't like Bon Jovi much at all. There was a bunch of stuff on this record that triggered my gag reflex... even so:

The album starts off really strong and then you get a few generic songs after. They really were going for a Springsteen meets Van Halen vibe, maybe unintentionally.

Great album with great songs. The guitar and drum are phenomenal.

People complain about how cliche it is, but cliches are cliches for a reason. This album is a mood. Makes sense find it on this list.

Pretty slippery when dry, too.

Decent album

Okay fine

I don't respect this but I also can't pretend like it's anything but a polished, solid version of what it is

Pretty wild A-Side just stacked with hits. While the album gives a facade of a hair metal album it is largely a bunch of pop songs. Credit where it is due, really entertaining front to back as long as you can turn off how much you've heard the big songs.

This is a pretty solid album. All the Bon Jovi songs I know are on it. Not quite a 5 but a good 4.5

This album is front-loaded with two massive hits, which hold a well-deserved place in the classic rock canon. It turns out some things are popular because they are great, who would have thought? After "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer," the album drops off a little, but it's still pretty good. "Never Say Goodbye" stuck out as a track that probably deserves a little more recognition than it gets, I found it to be quite strong. This album isn't perfect, but it is a lot of fun. Favorite track: "Livin' on a Prayer"

It’s got some hits

A good album but all Bon Jovi songs start to sound the same to me. 4 stars or B+.

you give love a bad name

Great hair band. You can tell they are having such a good time in the video for You Give Love a Bad Name. It is remarkable how much clothes they are wearing without wearing a shirt. Ha! Livin' on a Prayer is another classic. They still play both these songs on the radio. They are SO young in the music videos. Wanted Dead of Alive is another classic. I didn't realize I knew so many Bon Jovi songs.

PURE CHEESE. Never heard so many unnecessary pinch harmonics. Musically genius? No. A blast to listen to? Absolutely.

Don’t nope I technically have ever listened to this album all the way through till now obviously had a ton of hits and it was more nostalgic, but the begrudgingly it’s half decent album

Just good old fun. That's all hair metal needs to be about. Yes it's commercial as shit, but at least it's not blaring tinnitus into my ears.

Some major bangers on this album. A bit of filler, so definitely not a 5, but pretty darn close.

There is some iconic stuff in here. This is metal?

I am going to go to bat hard for this album because I hate how things women like are not taken seriously. After hearing Def Leppard and Guns n Roses talk about how they can't wait to bend a woman over and then vanish into the night, never to see her again. I like that Bon Jovi tries to do some storytelling, even if it's always about doing cowboy shit. I like that he does a Springsteen-esque song about the glory days with a woman and treats her like a person in it.
