Reviews (page 4 of 7)
Probably wasn’t the right introduction for me. I only found the longer 2007 remaster version. With that it was just too much. I think I would have done better with a single album 44 minute long intro. Clearly they were doing something interesting and out there. This album was just too much of it for me. About 3/4 of the way through I started to think maybe this is interesting but the feeling passed.
3.25
I can completely forgive the spoken word nonsense, all the space-noise-twiddly business and the terrible production. Because behind all of that is a solid rock album.
fine
Very long and repeat
Seems kinda straightforward for prog, even in its harder-rocking, more heavily metallic manifestations. In fact one likes how they launch right in to rocking on several cuts with extended solos and don't mess around too much bizarre-o song structure and tempo shifts or too much world-building (as if music were just an extension of Dungeons and Dragons). The more theatrical and operatic gestures seem pretty safe to ignore. The sound effects are meant to be trippy, but mostly aren't, which works to their overall advantage in that hey don't anchor too much on them or soon enough get back to just, you know, rocking. In fact, the best effect might be the extended sax playing on a few cuts. "Space is Deep," for sure, but that song ain't, though certainly wider than average. One is increasingly of the belief that Hawkwind might have been – perhaps still is – very much in on the joke here. Still, it's this kind of record that gave the '70s a bad name and forced a reformation in rock and roll, too.
Enjoyed it!
first listen definitely cool to explore from a historical perspective, very of the times, little too long for me
Meh, a bit pretentious
[7/10]
This shit bangs, get ya ears checked
Ok
It is astonishing that this was a live album, though it did go on for far too long.
Sounds bit Floyd-ish.
Ok
One of those "set and forget" kind of albums. Meaning you put it on, and you can just let it play on for a while without needing to change any songs. That's probably the one benefit of this album being over 2 hours, otherwise, it's way too long of an album to actively listen to. Great to have on in the background though. That being said, there were a lot of riffs and sections that were really cool that'd I'd go back to the song just to jam out. Particularly the bass line in Down Through the Night. But then you get to songs like Electronic No 1 and it's literally (not figuratively) just noise. I think overall, I still enjoyed my time with it and I can safely give it a 3/5
Long listen but OK.
Live performances shouldn't be on this list but it was solid background music.
weird - good weird
Overindulgent, but in a good way.
I feel I listened to this band's whole discography just by going through this one album... I bet for the audience people on LSD this whole thing was AMAZING, but for me, it was just alright :)
How essential is 2 hours of live 70's space rock before you die. That is quite a question to pose? One answer is can I have it in a couple of sittings?
What a fabulously weird album. There is some interesting playing on here in between the nonsense storytelling. That was an experience, not sure I am going to listen again.
70s UK rock. Live album. Opens with ominous wall of sound. Straight into hard driving guitars and drums. Long, fairly traditional rock songs. Well presented but pretty standard. Not objectonable but not very original either.
Live psychadelic rock? 2+ hours? Strap in for a terrible time! Nah its not terrible but its just too much, the freedom and exploration of psychadelic rock combined with the live nature of the performance makes this a real slog. The Awakening is just making me mad, I cant help but think this is something you had to be present for. I cant knock it too hard, they did something really different and experimental and I'm sure it resonates with some, but its a dud for me.
Strike one its a Live album that was meant to be experienced as a live event with very engaging visuals. Strike two is its over 2 god damn hours long But there’s no strike three. As background music while you live your whole god damn afternoon it’s pretty good! I wouldn’t recommend it but I did enjoy my time with it well enough
6/10 What is the point of a live album being on this list if you can barely notice it's live... Feels like a sneaky way to get a compilation album on here, so basically cheating. (Although nobody could accuse this of being a "greatest hits" album) A lot going on but it's too much to keep track of and I already forgot most of it. Really it's just waaaaay too long. I can imagine I might appreciate it more if I listened to it a couple times, but who has time for that?
Live albums are cheating and I was totally ready to trash this one. The word psychedelic appears in the genre and that’s enough to set me off. You have to ignore the guff voice over tracks. Next you need to try to block out the memory of This Is Spinal Tap. If you can do both it’s not bad.

Old memories
Awesome at times but it gets too jammy for my taste. Sometimes it just sounds like a bunch of dudes jamming and the songs loses it's structure. It's cool that Lemmy plays bass on this album.
Too long, but it was alright otherwise. Bass and drums were the highlight.
Some of the songs were a bit repetitive to me ("Born To Go," "Time We Left this World Today"), it felt like you had to "be there," in the moment. Having said that, I had always wanted to hear what Lemmy did in Hawkwind. It's such a different thing than Motorhead. The bass does work with pieces. I did not care for the spoken word stuff. Calvert could have toned it down JUST a tad. Some of the songs had lyrics that were a big... goofy (Looking at you, "Orgone Accumulator"). Jon Anderson had some lyrics that were a bit nonsensical, but this is more space-y than that. Apart from some of the lyrics, and the spoken word thing, it wasn't bad. Rocked out a bit on some of the tracks ("Master Of The Future," "Lord of Light"), but it's not something I would come back to over and over. Top tracks: "Master Of The Future," "Lord of Light", "Welcome To The Future," "You Shouldn't Do That," "Seven By Seven"
Just strange. As I started listening I was reading about the album and band, and ... strange. But as much as Earth Calling was just a spacey intro, the opening of Born to Go had some nice rocking guitar and drums. 2 minutes in and I found myself rocking along to the beat. Did it need to be 10 minutes long? No, but the cool sound was undeniable. The spoken word or interlude pieces throughout the album didn't really do it for me. But the songs themselves had such interesting blends of sound. It takes some real talent to do that. This is not my new favorite album, but I totally get why it's on this list. I've never really heard anything like it. I'm not sure the album kept me at the same heights as the second track all the way through, but Orgone Accumulator and Upside Down to start side three were cool and Master of the Universe on side four was super cool. Kudos to the effort and novelty but it needs a little more consistency (and less run time) to creep up to a 4.
I liked this a fair bit more than you guys. Agree that the monologues are rubbish and cringe-inducing, but the instrumental work was strong enough to make it a really good listen whilst working and it flowed nicely. Obviously, it's too long and is drawn out in places, but there's enough there to like. 3/5.
Enjoyed it more than I thought I would, it chugs along nicely.
This started out a bit artsy fartsy but finished stronger at the end. This is one of those albums you probably need to listen to a couple times to fully grasp.
Good tekkers probably never listen again though
Bro is a generational yapper
trippy shit
Not one of the best jam bands I’ve ever heard but their energy is undeniable.
Way too long. It's its own special thing, but I like the idea of it more than the execution.
++: Earth Calling, Born to Go, Lord of Light, Black Corridor, Space Is Deep, Orgone Accumulator, Master of the Universe +: Down Through the Night, The Awakening, Electronic No. 1, Upside Down, 10 Seconds of Forever, Brainstorm, Seven By Seven, Time We Left This World Today, Welcome to the Future +-: Sonic Attack 7,6/10
Meh. It was fine. I actually even liked it... But it was just way tooooo long.
Not advisable to be listened to sober…. Obviously heavily prog rock enthused, reminds me of some PF early years songs particularly from saucerful of secrets but what they lack is coherency and a live album as fun as it is high, showcases the writing and instrumental flow flaws more than highlighting them. 3 because prog rock rules and it’s still fun high but not one of my more memorable live albums
3 - Not sure, a bit too much weird shit with some great soundscapes and then it goes a bit bat shit
Pretty cool, I get that this was way ahead of its time. Still have an aversion to live albums though and this was another odyssey to listen through. 3.3/5
I can see how people might hate this but I didn't hate most of it. Kinda good for putting on in the background while working. Maybe I've just listened to too much King Gizzard so my taste for fuzzy jam rock has been altered. 3 stars
trip out
2.5
This one was out there! Reminded me of Pink Floyd's more experimental days in between the Syd Barret era and the Dark Side of the Moon album.
You know how sometimes in movies you see that old, stoner, hippie guy that drives a van painted with wizards, and dragons and shit? That guy loves this album.
I do like space rock but there is better
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Возможно я тупой, но я не совсем понял музыку :)
Sooo long
Space rockpsychedelic rockprogressive rockproto-punkhard rock. Un poco rollo.
This was some crazy stuff. I kind of liked it but it's just a bit too long.
6/10. I liked the creativity but it felt a bit slow to develop song to song for me and the vocals were “meh”.
Live albums are usually tricky. What may sound joyous and magical on the day can sound a bit garbled when on vinyl. That's the issue here - while there are great sections, with the band in a groove and jamming away, there's also a lot of discordant fluff, where I can imagine the band members all deciding to play what they wanted, and to heck with everyone else. Listening was a bit of a chore.
Sounds cool but is pretty long and eventually boring. Not bad but probably won't revisit. 3
This record has space rock, psych rock, hard rock, blues rock, proto-punk and a whole bunch of stuff. Just to long
Day234 - any band that can stay active with some original members for over fifty years is impressive especially if one of those members was lemmy kilmeister. this album is long and loud with a couple songs worth listening to
Underground Rock 1972, perfectly captured. Long instrumental sections ("wig-outs"), wobbly synthesisers, saxophone, and lots of songs about space, with portentous voice-overs.
A lot, lot better than I could have expected. I went into this one with no context on the band or the music. Sure, I got psychedelic 'vibes' from the album cover, but that did not necessarily mean it would be decent! A couple of things. The bass in these songs is really something. In a word? Meaty. Not a big fan of the vocals really, but the fuzzy, psychedelic guitar helps balance this out. Yeah, the guitar is as magical as the place in places. A lot of great 70s rock songs here. Here's a couple that my ears particularly enjoyed: Born to Go. There's some great moments of bass and guitar fuzziness towards the middle of the song. Goes on a little too long for it's own good, but still solid. I'd kill to play bass that well. This is only the second song into the monster live album as well, so this album really pummels that guitar and bass into the listener. Electronic No.1 also stood out to me. It sounds like a moog song - something Mort Garson might've come up with. It feels entirely unique compared with the rest of the album, so I have a special soft spot for it. Whilst this review is mostly positive, I will say that a lot of the songs 'melted' into each other and became forgettable. Others were simply average and didn't make the same impact. It lacks consistency for me to give it more than a 3. But I feel on further listens, I could grow to appreciate this more.
Long double album of 70s psychedelic rock. Great bass lines, long jam tracks. Love the fuzz sound on the guitars. Long album and I had to break it up to listen to it all. Solid not my thing most of the time but I can appreciate the work and art in it all. Stand out tracks: - Down through the night - Orgone Accumulator - Brainstorm
Over fifty years ago, my dad and his schoolmates formed a space-rock band. He was rhythm guitar, his best pal was on bass, and they had some engineering enthusiast rig up some whooshing sound effects from a black box. Not long after I started discovering music myself, he’d fondly reminisce to me about their highs and lows, and each of the songs they played about silver machines and the universe and stuff. I know what you’re thinking: wow! I must be the child of one of the Hawkwind members! Alas, no: my dad’s band “Nebulah” lasted barely a year in the heart of Scunthorpe, and their songs like “Cream Dreamland” never broke through as Hawkwind’s did. Meanwhile, Hawkwind had spent 1972 gigging in places such as Liverpool Stadium (not that one) and London’s Brixton Academy, recordings of which survive on 1973’s double-album behemoth “Space Ritual”. What strikes me most about this album is how relevant and on-trend most of it still feels: in fact, I struggle to see a time in the last fifty years that it would have been truly uncool. Hawkwind’s sound has aged remarkably well, with space-rock enduring through the decades as other offshoots of progressive rock (nursery-rhyme psychedelia, medieval-style folk, symphonic bombast) have sadly fallen out of fashion. In “Space Ritual”, their repetitive, one-note, driving-tempo jamming aligns well with motorik and early-70’s innovations in German rock. The semi-sung, semi-barked vocal delivery and overdriven guitars suggests shades of punk (most clearly heard in tracks like “Born to Go”, “Orgone Accumulator” or “Upside Down”. And the shoegaze/noise-rock boom of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s has a lot in common with the blizzard of guitars and white-noise effects. By 2024, “Space Ritual” could be an album by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and I wouldn’t think twice. Less timeless, though, are the spoken word interludes peppering this album, along with many of the lyrics, which are ludicrous and laughable. “Space is not large and it is not small; it does not live and it does not die”… “in the first and final second of forever, I thought of the long past that has led to now“… “in case of sonic attack… it is imperative to bring all bodies to orgasm simultaneously”. Thankfully, these interludes are relatively sparing and don’t take up too much time, but I was often expecting one of them to break into “Time Warp”. While Dave Brock and Lemmy’s sung vocals are solid across the album, it’s really the instrumental performances and all-round atmosphere which are the main selling point here. As it’s a live album, I’m slightly more forgiving of these jams being played out to the max without any need for studio editing. The audience aren’t at all distracting or intrusive, so that one can still get lost in the performances easily enough. Nevertheless, the length is a bit of a challenge, and I‘ll have to be in the mood for it to enjoy again. A double album is hard to pull off in any genre, and the truth is that once you’ve heard one of “Space Ritual”‘s trippy space jams you’ve heard them all. Perhaps I’d enjoy this album more in a truncated form, or on psychedelics, or if played live (either by Hawkwind or my dad’s old band). As it is, it remains a decent way to spend 87 minutes.
One of the better rock albums here and also points for influence
Cool but entirely too long
As active listening: nothing really stood out and it was way too long. As background / multi-tasking music: I liked the psychedelic space live jam sound. The length doesn't hurt it as much when you aren't paying close attention and are just looking for some decent vibes to throw on the Sonos.
Absolutely barmy! A total rollercoaster. Right when you think it’s awful, it suddenly gets pretty amazing. Before reverting to being terrible but finishing ok! Never heard anything like it 3.2
Lovely psychedelic from the early 70's . Brought me to a place. Will listen to again
Born to Go is a helluva way to rip into a concert. Some great jam stuff here. Could do without the talkie talkie bits in-between but if I was ripped off my tits I'd probably be into it. Solid 3.5.
Bueno
Verry innovative - in the time point of view; verry spacy .....
This sounds like Lemmy playing bass for a prog rock band. Which is exactly what this is. Parts of it rule (especially the bass) but some of it sucks.
Taken at Its most elemental - it's like Black Sabbath covering Astronomy Domine for...forever. but when you add in saxophone -then it really scrambles the old noggin. Full on jams with periods of spoken word and musical interludes. There are moments that veer dangerously close (if not ramming right into) Stonehenge. It all feels as if painted by a single musical brush. A spacey rocking brush...
decent cool, was fun to experience
This album was a trip. Over two hours of all over the place space jam band. The time spent playing was really good. I don’t think I’d ever sit through the “lyrics” or the long noise sessions again.
Insopportabilmente lungo.
If I wanted to listen to a 2+ hour live album from a psychedelic band with a singer that launched into poetry I would put on any of the Doors live albums. But the Doors aren't British now. Are they? 3/5
It captured the essence of the outer space. The crazy psychedelia of it, as well as the ridiculous size. I have mixed reaction about the latter, like why is it so long and repetitive?
Listenable but not particularly interesting. I made it through the full hour and a half but dont need to listen again.
I am not 100% sure I enjoyed this album or would recommend it to a friend/enemy. If someone asks me to recommend a space rock album then I probably would mention this one. If a person likes drugs and likes weird sound effects and sax solos over lyrics about space, this is their jam. The bassist (Lemmy!) is killing it on so many of these tracks. The rhythm section is very tight and I could see how a person would take drugs and enjoy the shit out of this album. I find it odd this is a live album and the band went to great lengths to take out the crowd noise or indicate in any way this is a live album. There were some overdubs, though there is a version without the overdubs and edited songs. It's like the band wanted to show what an album of these songs would sound like and could only do it through a live show, yet they didn't want it to sound live. Space Ritual is another album I would not choose to listen to but if it just started playing then I would absolutely just keep it on because the jams are fun to listen to. Any time there is an excessive use of saxophone, I am going to be somewhat excited.
Pretty sick psychedelic rock with some early Lemmy on bass. All recorded live so there are a lot of warts and it does sound a bit grating at times, but overall it was a vibe. There were some really interesting sounds and textures
Psychedelic science fiction jam. The mix is not good. I like the ambition but the SF spoken bits are a bit hokey. File under Sounds better when high
Looong psychedelic rock opera with same really trippy moments
Space rockpsychedelic rockprogressive rockproto-punkhard rock. Un poco rollo.
fun if in the right mood.
This reminds me of falling asleep on giant pillows at the commune as the wild dancing parties rocked late into the night as a boy. The album is too long. I'm not too tolerant anymore of disconnected music, but this is just cohesive enough that I can hang on and like it. I The driving drums are really necessary and hold together the spoken word sections, bizarre sounds, and psychedelic guitar. Kudos for this one. I've probably heard this before, but I may have been dreaming. This definitely has whispers or seeds of Black Sabbath and White Zombie.
Too much early 70s hippy nonsense, not enough tight rhythmic rock. For me. I think I get it though. If you’re in the mood, it’s a perfect soundtrack
Didn’t get very far thru it sorry
So 4 days ago I get Motörhead No Sleep Til Hammersmith and am contemplating if in fact Lemmy is god. I decide it's unlikely that Lemmy is god and if he is that makes me an atheist. Lemmy is back (from space! In the past!) And his crazy fuzzed out bass drives this weird crazy madness. So I like Lemmy better in Hawkwind and think this "album" would be improved with a few jack and cokes and a doobie. So yeah, I'd have appreciated this more if I had other drugs in me besides caffeine.
The kind of self indulgent space wank that makes me think you really needed to be there. Not necessary bad, just needing more drugs and alcohol than the daily commute affords
Really strong musically, especially Lemmy on bass. A lot of the times this really rocks, but sometime it drags on way more than it needs to. A fun, fairly campy one though!
I had fun with this, but it got a little tedious. I didn’t hear a lot of variations in the songwriting and the whole performance kind of just ran together for me. Not bad, though.
Damn I really want this to be better. I’m grateful to them as one of the main progenitors of stoner tock and the album cover is wonderful. But I was completely bored only five minutes into this thing. It got slightly more interesting at some moments but not that much. Extra star for Lemmy on bass.
I have a train ride today and this album is 2 hours long so. You know. Should be an experience. Not a GOOD experience. But an experience. I suspect this will be exhausting, not necessarily BAD but not ya know, enjoyable. Lemmy is on this album which is cool. The bass is actually pretty good so I like knowing that. But boy oh boy is this. Fine. I feel like if I was stoned out of my mind and I saw this live in 1973 I’d say this was incredible but uh. It’s a rock album. Nothing profound is gonna be said on this one. Hey whatever happened to the Shakespearean poetry readings about stuff happening in space, the dude is comparing a really hot planet to people in cryosleep. We don’t do stuff like that anymore. Has space lost some of its luster in the years? Like this was 4 years after the moon landing so there’s still SOME romance with space. That said the poem wasn’t good. But I mean. It was a fun little thing regardless
Psychy psych
As with most live albums on this list, this would've needed to be experienced, not really listened to afterwards
I can understand some of the negative emotions. There are those that look for flawless execution, those will be disappointed. There are those that look for polished to the edge songwriting, those will be disappointed. Many reasons to dislike the whole thing. It is a mess of self-indulgent and pompous waste of time. But hey, that is exactly what makes this a fun listening, because they are shredding away with passion. Out of tune and out of synch, noodling and drawling away. I take this for amusement, not for its importance. Surely it does not belong on any albums-you-should-have-heard list, but being that serious sometimes is just not appropriate.
It's difficult to score this live album fairly because this was a visual experience as it is sonic- it featured suspended animation, dancers and light shows. That doesn't always translate into listening the album at home. However, Hawkwind definitely influenced future prog rock/stoner rock/space rock artists (case in point: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard). Overall: 5/10
This must have been an awesome concert to witness. Unfortunately the experience doesn’t quite transfer to whatever media you prefer in your living room - unless of course that media is somehow the actual 1972 Hawkwind lineup live. Also; Lemmy was great on this!
That's not my taste in musik. But ok
Livelevy eli liian pitkä. Muuten toimivaa avaruusrockia, tätä kosmisemmille aroille tuskin päästään. 3/5
Лучшая песня - Sonic Attack → Time We Left This World Today.
I can tell i'm in for some prog rock.
Interesting record, probably won't revist it much but interesting nonetheless. Also was cool to hear Lemmy pre-Motorhead play
Wild stuff, really psychedelic -- some spoken word stuff. Cool rock grooves too, almost surf rock in some places. Heavy riffs, nice chugging, almost pre-metal, primordial sounding. I have no idea what decade this music is even from (okay, I just looked -- 1973 is definitely earlier than I would've guessed). Time We Left The World Today is super hypnotic and crazy sounding. I really like the grooves but the heaviness and repetitiveness of the music can be a little much. Three stars.
It was..OK
Too noisy
This had everything I hate about music… and I didn’t hate this. Weird.
This album was fine. It was definitely long and pretty one note, but a good recording. I kind think that long live albums should not be on this list.
3.5 This album feels like it would be either one of the most incredible or one of the most terrifying experiences on drugs. I’m not normally much of a fan of jam bands or really any kind of group that regularly goes off into extended instrumentals for that matter, but I gotta say, it was working for me here - there’s just a really cool vibe to a lot of the songs that I have to imagine must be awesome on psychedelics. That is, if you aren’t totally spooked the fuck out by the spoken word segments in-between. I see what they were going for, and I’m sure it works for some people, but for me those moments brought back the trauma of that tunnel scene from Willy Wonka. Outside of those though, really enjoyable album, one that goes harder than any other psychedelic rock project I’ve heard and that I think benefits greatly from doing so. Like, outside of the spoken word stuff and that one electronic track (which even then I didn’t mind - it gave me Star Wars vibes), there isn’t much random, trippy noise bullshit, it’s just pure, trippy rock energy - something I like to think is largely due to Lemmy’s involvement. Yes, Lemmy Kilmister is the bassist here. If you have another venture into this in you, I recommend trying to listen for the bass parts specifically - you can totally hear it’s him. While I don’t claim to be the biggest Motörhead fan, I generally enjoy most everything I’ve heard from the group, and I think that greatly benefitted my listening here - apparently trippy Motörhead was something missing from my life. So, that all to say, I actually went back and forth on my rating with this album a few times. I do genuinely think this album has an awesome sound and atmosphere to it, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think it was too long and too much of the same thing. As much as part of me really wants to bump this up to a 4 just because I think it would be a fantastic listen in the right “state of mind” or even just an incredible experience to see live, in my current state, I’m feeling this thing needs a handful of tracks cut if it wants to get a full re-listen out of me. Who knows though, definitely see a world where my rating on this album goes up in time.
It’s pretty far out tbf, but works well over the full album. Much better than I was fearing
Spacerock, prog, stoner, jam, blues, mid/fast, male, soli, sounds, cans, keys, drive, must be impressive live, but not sooo catchy on record. Still great.
listened to double album (2h 12m) -- not quite my thing but decent. 2.6/5
The recording quality is a bit rough at times but I could enjoy different aspects of the music. This leads me to want to listen to their studio album and give the band a more accurate rating.
Schöner psychodelischer Rock mit monotonen gitarrenriffs.
"The Space Ritual Alive" is an extremely long, and somewhat diverse, live, double album. In this album, Hawkwind explores the rock genre, dabbling in hard rock, punk, and pioneering the space rock sound. While this English group did not transverse the Atlantic well, they have certainly have their role in music history. Hawkwind has been around for a long time, with members coming and going throughout the past decades, and serving as an inspiration to groups such as Motorhead and Sex Pistols. Overall, the album wasn't too hard to listen to, but the dreary monologues were terrible.
Appreciate the nostalgic value of early delay pedals/synths etc and their longevity..admirable…enjoyed once but likely won’t listen again.
Cool idea, didn’t listen to all of it, cause it got too long and started to all feel same-y.
A prolific and ferociously catchy lineup of songs.
Pretty good, jammy, nothing that resonates with me.
3.6 - This is full-on drugs music, akin to Spiritualized. The intent is to give the listener an intense experience while under a heavy dose of hallucinogens. In a sober state, I find the freaky spoken word interludes pretentious, and 10- minute jams like "Brainstorm" too long. But, as always, I do like Lemmy's driving bass. And some of the more outlandish experiments do transport me to some colorful, exotic realm (see "Orgone Accumulator" and "Electronic No. 1").
3/5. I have to definitely be in a mood for this one but I do very much enjoy the jams. It's hard to know exactly how this is to be experienced without being completely stoned on at least 5 different substances but sober it's still pretty good. Throwing the bass out front is such a smart choice, as it drives a lot of the actual songs. The spacey, ambience really brings home this otherworldly feeling but it can be lost on me sometimes. Again, have to be in the mood but it do be rocking.
Not a big fan of this type of music but the quality of the album is very good.
Está bien. Psicodelia agradable al oído con solos de guitarra bastante chulos.
Not that into it tbh
Gonna have to come back to this one to finish it, its a long one. maybe i just want to like this because the album cover but i do kinda think it goes hard, a lot of the progressions are very satisfying. Definitely best enjoyed high. High potential for a 4
Some 70's psychedelic rock. Solid 3.
Listen I get that you’re telling me not to panic, but this ain’t helping
Very iconic space rock. I love how it's designed to be one continuous piece. Some parts work better than others for me but overall it's a really fun listen.
Pretty epic acid rock. Would like this on a trip.
A 2 hour rock noodle
The Wikipedia on this really hints at the bias of this list. I’ll hold the judgement until I listen but a live UK album that barely charted in the US is sus. After listening, I still stand by my words, but this was an enjoyable, trippy album. Very British but for this to be the Christmas Day album is pretty wild. Crazy cover too.
endless guitars for stoners
Weird
Well this was journey! Unlike a recent offering in this list where the frills seemed superfluous, here they are important and compliment the driving rhythms. Of course it is overlong and one wonders whether anyone was still awake at the end of the concert. A tone is set and it continues it unrelenting mission save for the short spoke and somewhat ridiculous interludes. Just the thing for a long trip on the motorway.
Går godt med badesalt. (Jeg faldt i søvn til det mens jeg lyttede i et badekar). Tæller op at den er ret hård, tæller ned at den er aaaalt for lang. Og lidt for dorky
Not my favorite
Groovy and jammy. A fun introduction to this genre
I've known about this one for a little bit, because my partner listened to it and showed me Sonic Attack because they thought I'd think it was cool, and it was. The rest of the music here carries that same space-y energy where nothing their saying feels real, and usually it isn't really, but suspending your disbelief for long enough to get sucked in a little is a neat enough experience, and there are most definitely some songs here that bang. However, the length and repetition of the whole package is a big turn-off, and by the end everything is starting to leave the same taste in my mouth. Its amazing that this is mostly all live, but it also feels sloppy enough that not knowing the music this stems from leads to aimless tracks that could use a few studio pass-overs. Overall, an experience with good and bad qualities, but I can't imagine coming back to it, unless I were to become a big fan of hallucinogens.

I saw Hawkwind once (sadly without Lemmy) and I can't remember much. A two plus hour live recording hasn't jogged my memory much, I don't think there's enough drugs on the planet to make this monster album bearable in one sitting but there are more than a few bits that genuinely sparkle and shine.
Wasn’t terrible and I actually found I liked some of the songs. But the 12 minute songs made me want to bang my head against the wall.
Overly long but still listenable. Weirdo space rants were funny.
Jammer.
I never heard of this group before, and I am glad I listened to this. I will listen to it again some day.
A long-form prog-rock album that I actually didn't hate. For almost 2 hours, this kept my attention longer than I thought it would. Though I was tired by the end of it. It was long without be annoying, so that's good. Felt more spacey than some of the more experimental stuff I've heard. And it was live? Man, they've got to be exhausted.
Just a bit mad and I have no idea what to make of it! I was busy and bit stressed listening to this so I feel I can't give a good impression as I likely wasn't taking much in. But I do know I didn't full on hate it!
My Dad likes Hawkwind. They are weird. But it's interesting. Can't imagine ever wanting to chill out and have a listen but it's cool stuff in places and weird in others.
Not my style of music at all. If I was the bass player I'd buy a cool hat and start a band singing about speed and gambling. Honestly give me two hits of acid and a time machine and I probably would of loved this concert. 7/10
I really, really struggle with live albums. Sorry Lem
No need for live albums on the list - especially not prog nonsense ones. Not actively bad, but far from good. Being slightly generous with my rating, but I'm a nice guy in a good mood!
What a spacey trip this album is...I like it spacey sounds. Great arrangements and lots of energy on an initial listen. Looking forward to hearing more from these old-timers. 3.5 stars
If this was a studio album it would probably be awesome.
I had never heard of Hawkwind before listening to this album, so going in completely fresh was a bit of a surprise. The album is a concept album, with an overall theme of a scifi space journey in suspended animation. Overall, I had very conflicting feelings about this album. The instrumentals are top notch and quite an enjoyable listen. The vocals are mid but inoffensive. Personally, I felt the album leaned a bit too hard into the "concept"; almost every other track is a lengthy monologue about space and the future, most of which say very little of interest in a overly dramatic fashion. It comes off to me as masturbatory and pretentious. I think this album is probably best listened to while high; the too-deep-for-you bits probably sound much more intelligent while under the influence. Highlights: Born to Go - Great instrumentals. Down Through the Night - Excellent bassline, really fun listen. Orgone Accumulator - This is the best track on the album IMO. Funky rocking beat. Master of the Universe - Excellent song. Lowlights: Upside Down - Dissonant, and not in a good way. The driving power chords are good, but the whiny and aimless lead guitar is disharmonic to the rest of the song. Brainstorm - 13 minutes of good instrumentals with some of the weirdest vocal choices and monologuing over the top of it. Any one of the seven tracks that are basically solely monologues over guitar tuning - I'm not high enough for this. Final Thoughts A very interesting sounding concept album with not much at all worthwhile to say. The instrumentals are top notch, but rarely allowed to stand on their own merit in favor of injecting some shallow and frankly off putting monologues on top.
Good
Overall, a mixed bag of an album. The start is very odd production wise, lead guitar is way too quiet and the vocals sound drowned out. However, it does pick up during the second half. The longer songs are enjoyable but are interrupted by shorter, out of place, songs. The continuity of the album is perfect at times, seamlessly going from one song to the next, but it tends to get broken up by shorter more experimental tracks. Final Thoughts: Not bad, but not great. forgettable. Genre: Space Rock, 1973. Rating: 3/5
This is good. But how long!? 😅 Not sure how much of that is attributable to the remixed, repackaged version. Ain't nobody got time for that!
Trippy AF! Devil Cats and Titties.
Space rock. Taking Hendrix far out psychedelia and running with it for hours on end. Obviously way too long. Some isn't bad, but this kind of psychedelic space rock isn't my thing. All right as background sound. There is a place for this, I'm sure. It is musical, so I'll give it a three, just.
Psychedelic, funky, interesting rock. Kept me interested, but sometimes went on for a while. 3/5
I get that Hawkwind is a bit of a performance/jam oriented band, and the live recording captures some of that, but the production suffers as a result. These tracks are likely substantially stronger with better production and so the studio versions should be recommended before the live ones.
I mean it's fine I guess. Just really long kinda dull prog rock. It's competent but that's about it. Barely would have known it is a live album as well. The spoken word stuff is goofy as hell.
Kind of liked it. Very spacey and full of jams. Bit too long
Now that's what I call nuclear anxiety.
A groovy, psychedelic, mostly-worthwhile, but ultimately inconsequential, head-scratcher of an inclusion on this list.
Cool prog rock sci fi epic. Maybe a little long-winded.
Drumming was samey on every track they all kinda sounded the same vocals were lack luster 6/10
Space rockpsychedelic rockprogressive rockproto-punkhard rock. Un poco rollo.
Un dels directes mítics dels 70. Psicodèlia, hard rock, jams i sobretot l'space rock del que són estendard donen vida a un directe inesgotable, i també de vegades inacabable...
How to rate this? It's a very long and drawn out affair. Some of the songs feel like they go on and on and are never going to end. The monologues are silly and pretentious at the same time. But when it rocks, it rocks. As far as live double albums go, I'd rather listen to KISS Alive! (I hope that one is on the list.)
I didn't hate it. Some of the spoken word stuff was a bit wierd and meh.
It sounds really cool, but not all my style. I could see myself trying to listen to it in another time, but I don't think it will happen. That doesn't mean it's not good, just my opinion.
I guess you had to be there... I don't mind space rock, and this rocks more than most. I found the first 20 minutes vaguely entertaining, but this just goes on _forever_. Orgone Accumulator, Time We Left This World Today and Master of the Universe are the only songs that really stand out as songs, compared to the aimless noodling and meandering noises that make up most of the album. The synthesizer wibbles and swirls are incessant. I could live without the spoken word, as all of the lyrics are science fiction twaddle and so really need a tune to carry them. That said, this is a precursor for a lot of the psych and doom metal that I listen to now (Wooden Shjips, Boris, Electric Wizard, etc), so it's not all bad. The cover art is outstanding. And I'm sure the live show was pretty fun, if you had enough drugs. But I don't really need to sit through the whole record again, let alone the extended re-release with an hour of bonus tracks.
Odd but good album. some great bass groves.
6/10 Could be better not live
This album's atmosphere is great, it's fun to listen to, but it's also not really something to listen to consciously, more something to have on in the background. It's really long and repetitive, so it kinda suits that. The sci-fi stuff makes it stand out. Down Through the Night is the best track on this album, I also thought some of the spoken interludes were cool or at least funny. Some elements of the other longer songs are interesting. Respectfully a 3/5 Listened 5/27/23 10/1001
Yea not bad, a little long
Lemmy in speed > lemmy on acid
Heady and jammy, this feels like only half the equation, which it sort of is — part of the thrill of their live performance was from the on stage antics. Still, this is a good collection, even if it’s missing their best song. Guess you just had to be there.
I think a double album is too much. They could have made a great single album from these recordings. The first couple of songs are very good. The singing is not entirely up to par. Maybe that's why there's not so much of it. Then the middle part is not very interesting to me. My favorite song is near the end: Master of the Universe.
Very jammy, and with the straight ahead nature of it, it's very listenable. Plus the live recording is so high quality that it doesn't even sound live, which is great. It doesn't sound cosmic enough to lift me off into outer space like "space rock" implies, but I can hear how it would be powerful in a live context, and the psychedelic interludes are a nice contrast to the classic rock.
Live album of spac rock/prog rock. Long, loose tracks that have interesting bits of instrumentals, but mostly too drawn out for my taste. Standout is "Orgone Accumulator"
Its nonsense really. But there were times that I would seriously groove along to this. If it wasnt nearly 2 hours long, Id probably fall more favourably off the genius/shite line that it walks.
Album 12 of 1001 Hawkwind - Space Ritual Favorite Track : Orgone Accumulator Rating : 3 / 5 For the sake of the "project", I sat through this 2 hour live album. I'm not a big fan of live albums. There are exceptions, of course. This could be one of them. I wasn't sure about it in the beginning. Just seemed to be all over. It took a while to get going for me, but it grew on me. The bass is rocking. They are obviously committed to what they're doing and give a strong performance. It certainly has it's moments. It pulled itself up from an early 1 to a 3.
это невероятный психодел. не смог я с одного подхода осилить альбом, уж больно он загружает музыка с невероятной энергетикой, еще и лайв. попробовать точно стоит
My only familiarity with Hawkwind is that it was Lemmy’s other band. I’ve since found that this was quite incorrect, as they were certainly a very well established band before Lemmy joined (as well as after he stopped performing with them). Turn out I know nothing, so let’s listen! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Down Through The Night This was very different to what I was expecting. They sound very different to Motörhead. The music reminded me of Rush, but less intricate and more trippy and psychedelic. I imagine that with a certain mindset, maybe if trying to listen to this as an audiological modern art piece, then I may have enjoyed this more than I did. Some of the songs were good, but there was also a lot of ambient filler throughout. It is also a long album to listen to, and it did t really motivate me to listen again. I can appreciate this album, but it’s not one I’ll likely listen to again.
Dark psychedelia, certainly can hear the space themes
Prog rock is hit or miss for me. Not having heard any previous versions of these tunes, I found myself not enjoying the multiple rounds through the song as it developed into a 15 minute piece. Glad I’ve heard it, but probably won’t return to it.
Rock psicodélico setentero. Ni fu ni fa.
I really enjoyed this album. Sure, the ‘space poetry’ is a bit naff and the music isn’t as tight as you’d get from a studio album but it’s a banger of a journey into stoner rock and some lovely bass work. Highlights: Lord of Light and Orgone Accumulator
2h 12 min huhhuh tähän mahtuu monet vuodet, vuosikymmenet vuosisadat PRKL!
Very cool psychedelic rock Sounds like the love child of The Door & Jimi Hendrix at times Interesting use of delay and reverb to give it an over all spacey theme Great album just not particularly my cup of tea
*rips bong* Groovy. *rails speed*
I know what Hawkwind IS but I've never actually heard them. Pretty sure I know what to expect. But a 2 hour live album.... fuck, ok. Not too bad all things considered. Definitely played its whole hand by about the 15min mark, but enjoyable enough. Interesting little footnote in the history of rock with the whole Lemmy connection etc. Could have probably done with a studio album instead, but whatever. 3/5.
These guys rock harder than prog, maybe Lemmy joining by this point made the difference but I don’t like ‘em enough to go back and do a thorough investigation. Good riffs, but with many songs jamming over the 6-10 minute mark, I wish they were more economical (and less lyrically gimmicky).
Not bad but not super strong either. Some great elements, so others not so much
Whoa, dudes, total heavyosity alert. One is a heavy metal hater but they create a more ambient vibe that doesn't seem meant to achieve black-hole darkness or outright scariness. The guitars while driving, are accessible and fuzzy to the point of softness or at least accessibility. The yrics are laughably un-profound -- see "Orgone Accumulator," which the vocalist has and which makes him feel greater and who will see you later; bookier prog-rock types would look seriously down on its intellectual merit. One recognizes and is vaguely intrigued by the subculture – maybe cult – suggested by such an extensive back catalog (the same people must be buying these records, sad and friendless people, one reckons) but not enough to go exploring.
Pretty cool!
Lite mastigt album. Men Lemmy är ju med.
3.25
6/10. Got on my nerves after a while, but had some kinda cool bits.
I've listened to this before, and I'm mixed on it. There is some good stuff but it's also quite long.
Weird shit
Psychedelic space rock. Not bad but not great. I only made it partway through, it’s a veeeery long album.
Hawkins, what a name for a band.
Interesting album, but after awhile it just drags on and on and on.
Well that was weird! Psychedelic rock is my jam but most of this album is too far out even for me.
Never heard of this band before but they’re totally the kind of group I like. This album can be a bit much (lots of long, dense, sludgy jams) but I’d be curious to hear a more streamlined batch of studio-recorded songs from them. The opening number “Born to Go” has a big thunderous energy! And “Down Through the Night” keeps the momentum chugging along. Their rhythm section in general really keeps things moving on these long songs. “Lord of Light” has some ripping saxophone in it! 🎷🕺🏼 There’s a fair amount of druggy instrumentals and spoken word nonsense that I could do without. But this was a live show so I understand the theatricality of that. “Master of the Universe” is a heavy, hard-rocker. 😎👍 Sometimes the live recording makes the songs feel a bit distant when I wanted a louder, more immediate sound. I felt like I was in the third mezzanine wishing I was upfront next to the stage.
Lemmy and Ginger Baker were both in this band and that's great. Even from track 2 (which is really the first track as track 1 is an intro) you can hear the big time bass driven sound. Solid rock album. I like the weird in between songs too, like "The Awakening" which is very different than the tracks around it. There's definitely some thematic space / cult stuff going on that is very interesting. This is an album I'll have to hear again to pick up all the details.
Interesting acid rock album
“In case of sonic attack on your district, follow these rules: if you are making love it is imperative to bring all bodies to orgasm simultaneously.” Spacey. Some of that guitar was surprisingly grungy.
crazy lunatic stuff
not bad but live and 2 discs... kinda annoying
The album starts very well; the songs are likable, even psychedelic rock not being my favorite thing. After 1st hour, the songs start to lose any sense...why I'm still listening to it? After 2nd hour: Is this real life? The album's end is in a melting brain by psychedelia, "space rock" (whatever that means), and poetry(?). I got why this album is on the list, but more than 2 hours (only 2 hours?) of anything is enough to enjoy and hate that thing. Watching the live presentation looks like an authentic experience, but listening to it is just part of it and, at the most, is enjoyable. At its worst is annoying. A perfect 3-stars
3.5 some song feel like they don't belong, the album absolutely over stays it's welcome. But they do a great job of giving the feeling of being in space for most of it. If I was on shrooms this would probably be 5 stars.
Een trip, door het universum
I haven’t been attracted by it.
Hard to know if they take themselves too seriously or not seriously at all. Better than I expected.
Fun album - but up to a point. Space rock at its best, allegedly, is very entertaining in small doses. Listening to a song or two was a great experience, sound of guitars really could take light years away from Earth. But the whole album was almost 2 hours, and trying to listen to those 'sounds of future' quickly became unbearable. I won't recommend this album to anyone, but I would gladly put a random song from this album on a party, as a 'something different and weird'. But that has to be reflected in the rating as well.
I get there was a whole art scene thing behind this, and this space theme I guess would have come out more strongly if I’d paid better attention to the lyrics? But as a purely sonic entertainment I’m not sure it’s distinguished much from any regular old hippie jam-a-roo, and one (at double length) I found increasingly tedious. Scrapes the barest three stars with me for style and the in-your-face artiness.
Lots of incredible parts, but too long and filled with a quite a bit of fluff.
I didn't know this band. Not bad.
Rock psicodélico setentero. Ni fu ni fa.
Space rockpsychedelic rockprogressive rockproto-punkhard rock. Un poco rollo.
It is a strong 3 though…. It’s fun…..
Man I got no clue on this one but I still don’t like the inclusion of live albums in the book… The set starts with earth cooling a perfect intro for a gig… Then rip roaring guitars come crashing in to announce the entry of born to go. The songs nearly 10 mins long which I think would be good if it held more lyrical ground other than just being 95% cool guitar solo, also the vocals aren’t even that great, but I’ll give that a pass as it’s a live album, so therefore it’s much harder to enjoy as the listener isn’t where the band originally intended to hear it. Then is down through the night it’s more compact than the last one which makes it better only at a fairly average 6 minutes. Again the guitars are by far the stars but as it’s shorter the vocals aren’t just a super super minor part. The awakening is just a small spoken part just to add “ atmosphere” to the set. Rolling out of that bolts in lord of light, it’s more vocally driven than the others but still holds awesome punching instrumental work, nice song! Out of the rubble ascends the black corridor just the same as the awakening to be fair. Space is deep really mixes choppy guitars with the background noise. I’am not sure if the vocals work too well with it but it’s still a good enough song. At 8 minutes the song does drag but what one on here doesn’t? Then is electronic No 1 it’s just a passable instrumental to be fair. Orgone accumulator is a 10 minute epic, this one’s really rocking probably a favourite of mine ( even if the instrumental is too long)! Upside down has such a cool guitar riff it’s short and sweet very enjoyable. 10 seconds of forever is just another spoken bit. It’s alright. Brainstorm is 13 f-ing minutes long and it’s an alright sonic just these longer songs don’t tend to strike the right chord with me especially on this generator. Still good enough though. Seven by seven is a slightly slower track at 6 minutes it’s certainly very enjoyable still just hard not having herd the original versions before. Sonic attack is the best spoken track it’s still odd as fuck but it’s cool. While it has repetitive lyrics, time we left this world today is a decent tune not too special but not shit. The penultimate track on the tracklist I’am going by master of the universe it’s cool very heavy it’s only 7 minutes, which isn’t bad for this album, so yeah cool song! It ends with welcome to the future it’s like most of the spoken tracks but with nice guitars. So a pretty druggy track. And a very druggy album, also not an album i’am a huge fan of. There’s bits I like and I won’t call it bad but without the knowledge of studio releases I have to give it a…
Better than I thought after reading the wiki.
Really enjoyed listening to this album, but not quite a 4 for me.
I've been recommended Hawkwind for over a year now, and I'm glad to finally get around to them. Most cosmic rock I've heard is more on prog rock side, with some on the more krautrock end. But this is heavy, a derivative of the acid metal of the late 60s and early 70s. It's a very atmospheric work. Guitar solo isn't what I think of when it comes to this album. There's the wobbly synth effects that give off the cosmic feel extraordinarily well, always the focus but never too reliant on its effect. You have to be really careful when your album and each piece goes on for so long, and they pull it off well. Brock on the vocals and guitar feels more like a compliment, as if he displays himself as the star to the audience, but the atmosphere just overtakes and shrouds him in a cloak. Such characteristics make the album perfect for listening to while high. Nik Turner on the sax and flute are more familiar noises to us, complimenting the synths to add to the surreal nature, while still accessible to audiences. But by far Lemmy takes it away on bass. I can't believe his creepy voice is the same raspy cowboy voice he has on Motorhead. The major downside is its length. By the time you're half way through, there aren't any highlights to look forward to. It's still cool, but after listening to this album twice, I sighed both times by the time I got to the 14-minute "Brainstorm." If the album were cut in half, I would appreciate each track much more and award it a 4. But with an atmospheric album like this, especially considering the time era and the fact it was live, there are limitations on what can be done.
I'm a sober man now a days. So this maybe didn't hit like it should have. However, if I ever decide to smoke again and have the time, I'm gonna slap this one on in the background.
Space rock is what space rock does
Weird. Strange. But not bad. Let it run as background music for most of the day. 3
Too long
Les falta capacidad de síntesis, esas idas en la mitad de tiempo sería un discazo.3
A little out there for my tastes but great musicianship.
Classic. Didn't finish it.
This left me so cold. I’m already half out with the live album aspect but it’s also sooo long
Throughout this bloated record, I had moments of "oh yeah, I'm digging this guitar, I can totally headbang", but for the most part I felt like the only thing this album did was make my dishwashing slightly less dull. Pleasant enough of a listen (minus the spoken word...I personally wasn't into that) and at times unique. I might re-visit some songs or try this again at another time in my life.
I don't have enough time. But what a good jam for what I've heard. A little boring psychadelic in the short while I listened. Think this is a 3
i can do hippy, and can do space, but this didn't grab me
Strange.
A pretty alright older album. One recognized song
Decent prog rock live album that does lack great songs though and thus remains average
Boy, it's a good thing that the actual performances on this thing are so good because the length and the spoken word bits really kill any other enjoyment I might have here
6/10
Not what I was expecting. So long and so Spinal Tap. Didn't know Lemmy from Motorhead was in this band. Some weird stuff, some pedestrian. Glad I listened to it once but don't imagine going back to it.
Alright, but it dragged on way too long. First of time I got bored listening to an album on this site.
Bra sång, tunga gitarrer, fet rymdrock helt enkelt! Bästa låt: Seven by Seven.
Oooh, spacey. I was not pleased to see a 2 hour live space rock album waiting for me this morning, but I actually enjoyed it. As live albums go, this one's pretty solid. It rocks much harder than I expected and it was just fun to listen to. The album suffers from some of the sound quality issues that a lot of live albums do, but the actual performances are absolutely on point. I will add that this album is very, very jammy. Some will absolutely not have the patience for it. Some people here are dogging on the spoken word parts, but I'm cool with them. They're never overly long (which is key to making it work), and admit it, Robert Calvert has a perfect voice for spoken word. Lemmy and Simon King make for one hell of a kickin' rhythm section and Dave Brock's guitar is splendid. Fave Songs: Master of the Universe, Time We Left This World Today, Down Through the Night, Space is Deep, Brainstorm
I quite enjoyed the first half of this album. It seems like it would have been a really cool concert to go to. After a while this album gets to be a bit much, though. Some of the lyrics/voice overs are really cheesey, which is expected for this era and this type of music, but it doesn't age well. I often find double albums frustrating to rate because they could often be reduced to a single album that is good, but as a double album they are often not worth the time commitment. I understand it more for a live album like this, but I also don't have all day to listen to Hawkwind talk about space 3/5
Spacey live album that has its moments.
Rating: 5/10
Listen again
Spacey
Rock y psicodelia a partes iguales, no siendo muy incómodo de escuchar al no ser demasiado experimental. Mayormente instrumental. Propia de la época en la que fue elaborado
I thought I would really like these guys, but they were okay. Really cool album art though.
I sort of feel like the best I can say about this is that it definitely inspired more interesting things. A lot of this feels like it could use more focus and editing. The bass is pretty great though. Given what I know about Motörhead, it’s pretty interesting that Lemmy was in a band like this.
Its like a hard rock space symphony. The motif of space is deeply explored; sonically and philosophically. Still not really my thing.
Bizarre
sometimes overdoes it but maybe that's OK I was listening to a live performance recording and the real deal is probably better but I am rating the recording anyways
Love Hawkwind but this isn’t their best.
A decent space-rock live album. 7.9/10
This is the band that had hosted musicians such as Ginger Baker and Lemmy, but this live concert drips with the excesses of Prog Rock & Psych Rock. While bloated in areas, it is still an impressive effort.
It was OK but the repetitive and long songs get pretty boring quickly in my opinon. I don't mind listening to it once, but I don't think I'll come back to it.
I quite enjoyed this for a short period but it just goes on a bit. It again makes me thankful that punk happened.
Much as I enjoy Hawkwind it does get a bit same after a while. ***
Really wasn’t in the mood.
pyschodelic guitar experimental rock
Probably not a far go because I was away from home. Seemed OK in what I heard.
Interesting, psychedelic rock. I need a certain mood for it, but it is impressive.
Really like it but far too long
I think if you drill down through the muddy production, the song-writing is actually pretty good. The riffs are solid, the music is driving and relentless, and while there’s very little variation in the 8, or 9, or 10-minute pieces, save for a sax solo, they don’t seem too long. The poetry and outer space build ups are amusing. It’s easy to see why these guys have garnered such a cult following.
Prof rock. Interesting and weird. Need to be in the right mood for it
Scorching driving guitars and wicked bass from Lemmy. I think to appreciate this you'd need to be banging your head in a room smoking some weed, the folks talking between the song are certainly high on something. Can hear the early origins of prog metal here. The first half dozen songs were great, but after that it got very repetitive.
Lot o’ jamming but I liked the one song with the weird dialogue
Looooong
What a journey! Too long though. But I liked it.
Sehr lange gezogen aber gute Riffs
I mean it's good, but nothing really sticks. They sound similar but it's space rock.
Just a jam album, not fantastic but not bad, probably shouldn’t be sober to fully enjoy this album.
So everyone always says, "yeah, I wish I was high as a kite while listening to this", but I feel like that detracts from the media you are enjoying. If something (music/movie/food/etc) is good, you shouldn't have to be in an altered state to find it enjoyable, or even incredible. And that's where I find myself disagreeing with myself as I listened to Space Ritual. This album is so damn long that you absolutely need some kind of substance that speeds up time in order to find it thoroughly enjoyable. Each song? Cool. The whole thing? A crawl to the end. Only HyperLSD will work here.
Not bad. Some good tunes
Got exhausting
Great live rock album. I think one would have to take this in the moment to get the full experience (the out-there interludes don't make for easy listening), but even as a recorded experience the energy and life behind each track is apparent. Reminds me of a prog King Gizzard.
some good stuff, some really weird stuff, semi-interesting
Ok cool
3.0
I have never been high enough to appreciate this album. Even so, it was almost good until the pseudo-intellectual nonsense monologues started. Kind of a mood killer.
Long and empty sounding at parts but mostly cool
prog qeyf
Great music but too goddamn long.
No manen con el space rock. Como aguantaban eso en ese entonces?
