Reviews (page 7 of 8)
This is fine as background work music. I understand it was also very technically influential but doesn’t necessarily hold up as an interesting modern listening experience.
Respect the music but not my style of tunes really
Am I having fun on the Autobahn, not so sure yet. Prefer the one about trains.
Not great
Well, It was good background music for working, probably good for driving too. The song was too long really, but I did like the other songs. interesting, but probably won't be visiting it again though.
I don't get it
I can appreciate this album for its importance as an early electronic release, but as their first album Kraftwerk really didn't have it figured out yet. Weird album, not much to it. Enjoy 22 minutes of "Wir fahr'n, fahr'n, fahr'n auf der Autobahn".
This was a fun little listen. The first song reminded me of a song Ethan and I would make while going about our day, it felt unserious and entertaining. I think the album was a 2/5 stars because it was simple. I am obviously not a music savant, but I think the electronic music I am used to has more going on, so this fell a little flat. I really enjoyed tracks 1 + 3, the others were forgettable. I appreciate how foundational this album was for electronic music!
I wasn't expecting it to be so boring
No niin, kuunneltu tämäkin. Ei kovasti iskenyt ja vain pitkästytti.
Loved moments at a time but couldn’t stay with entire songs (especially when they can be so long!). Can’t say I could recommend.
Not for me.
bleh
It got a bit intriguing, but not to save itself from being so repetitive.
3/10
Не понравилось, слишком немелодично для меня
Beep boop goes the 70s space music. I would have enjoyed this one if each song was half the length.
It was a journey. Needs patience.
Intro song 22 minutes! Not a huge fan of electronica, but maybe it’s cause I don’t know much about it. I think this is a good Segway to finally check out Daft Punk.
It is beautiful in some way and masterfully crafted, but unbearably boring due to its age.
Fun fun fun of the Autobahn. Not bad, the first song was good, the rest got a bit weird.
Interesting early EDM. Kinda psychedelic . Not bad but I probably wont revisit this.
20/03/25 There was nothing to this album, I could not get behind it.
I’m confused on how I feel on this. The first song 20 minutes of sound and vocals that came right out of a japenese Toyota ad😭 But once u get past that monstrosity it isn’t that bad. Track 2 and 3 aren’t anything special but the last 2 on this album is magnificent. These two songs just are on the opposite ends of the spectrum in the same genre one makes me uncomfortable, ethereal and almost sad and the other is calming, meditative and happy. This album was defiantly and I can’t say I will return to it but I’m glad it happened but as a critical review it has too be a 4.8/10 2.4/5
Didn’t vibe with it at all
uhhhhh
good for homework doing
Decent, but not really special in any way
Eh
Not my wave.
No song should ever be 22 minutes long. This album was horrible overall, but the few moments that got my foot tapping saved this from being a 1.
Somehow I thought Kraftwerk were a noise/industrial band. I was not expecting this almost poppy type of electronica. I wanted the industrial which made it hard for me to get into it.
what in the world was that
Not horrible, but didn't do anything for me.
Again, not for me but I’m sure someone loves it.
Ok background music, but don’t speak German, so giving a 2. Not sure why this is on the list.
I’m not fluent in German which it being in German did not make me angry instead the long songs were a bit painful to listen to.
I mean it sounded nice I guess but goodness gracious a 22 minute song right off the rip? That's a bit much fellas. Also I felt like the album didn't really do much just kinda meandered along with random sounds, a lot of which were just repeated over and over again. I wouldn't cry if someone put this on or scream (like I would if someone put on Bob Dylan or Public Image Ltd.), but I wouldn't notice it either.
opening with a long, monotonous, overly synth track made me nervous of what would follow, but it was ok. weird & strange, but ok. definitely not boring-felt like it belongs in some odd scifi movie soundtrack
Never been much of a fan, and this was too long and monotonous.
Pleasantly surprised. The first track was what I had expected from Kraftwerk—monotone chanting, synthesizer. But the rest was lovely accompaniment for the walk home.
To juz mnie wynudzilo wieki temu, wpada w ucho, ale jest zbyt prymitywne i plaskie.
Strange but notable soundbites.
This was fun to hear on the radio in 1974, but outside of the main riff 24 minutes of the title track is a bit much. Some interesting stuff on side two, but never need to hear this again.
Don’t want to rate it a 1 because it wasn’t terrible, just not sure why it was on the list.
This album is not unpleasant to listen to. It's just super boring. I don't know how to rate this because it's not as bad or offensive as some other 1 star albums (looking at you Kollaps), but if someone were to put this on I would just ask "Why?".
Songs were a bit too long for me.
They're like electronic pioneers and suff, still i can't listen to this seriously in 2024
did not listen all the way through, thought it was an interesting concept it just wasn't for me.
#433. The first part of the first song is pretty interesting, but the album drags after that. Not really much going on for most of it. Too bad, really. I loved The Man-Machine, but this one doesn't really do it for me. 2/5: boring
# Album Name: Autobahn # Artist: Kraftwerk # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: I'd imagine back in the day that some of these sounds were cutting edge or new. But honestly, i did not enjoy this one. Autobahn was long AF. There were some decent sounds but the lyrics and overall tracks were poor. This was not for me. # Top Tunes: None # Would I listen to it again? No
I can see why this is here. For its time, this was groundbreaking. An entire album composed exclusively of electronic sounds in 1974 was, I assume, unheard of. That must’ve been absolutely mind blowing to folks at the time. That, or they had my reaction. I didn’t really care for this. Maybe it’s because it’s hard to listen to this and remember its place in history. Maybe it’s because it just doesn’t hit like it would’ve in 1974. Maybe it’s because it just wasn’t that interesting to me. I appreciate what it tried to do. I actually thought the track that tried to mimic bird noises was super cool. But the novelty of it all wears off quickly these days and you’re left with an album that, for everything that it is, is ultimately an experiment. And that’s cool, but as an album it falls a little short because it’s held back by the fact that it’s an experiment. Two stars. Standout Tracks: Kometenmelodie 2
I listened to this while driving it made me feel like I was in the future. But the main song went on for far too long, they should have stuck to the radio edit. Probably won't come back to this album.
I feel like this was probably something in 1974 but in 2025 I'm left totally unphased
Guess these guys got some cool points for finding out about synths before everyone else? Still doesn’t make the music good. Do like the album cover tho
Did not stand the test of time
not feelin' these guys. Tried a bunch.
Not my favorite flavor of prog. Can’t believe a whole subgenre was named after these guys
Not at all what I was expecting. Not bad - kind of positive sounding and less electronica. Still, not good.
Kuulostaa bändiltä opettelemassa soittamaan. Parin hyvän idean lisäksi herättää riittävästi kysymyksiä ollakseen matala kakkonen.
Must have been there I guess. Techno stylings with synthesized melodies. Simplistic to say the least, honing in on that video game sound and recording some water drops.
Don't love kraftwerk
2.5
#46 What is this? First song is almost 23 minutes long! Actually quite nice as background music while working, but a bit boring and guess I won't really listen to it again.
20 minute synth loop song? Brave, maybe not good enough to justify repeat listens por moi. The Man-Machine is a good album tho
Wanted to like this alot more. Not really even fot for background noise
Autobahn was cool. The rest was weird.
Without any wider context, this album just seemed like decent background noise to me.
Goofy German electronica
Thoughts before listening: I know this is Kraftwerk's most celebrated album, but I feel like they are a bit much for me. At least on the first album I heard, it was too electronic sounding for my tastes. I know that part of the charm with Kraftwerk is that its humans manually making music to sound robotic, but it still just didn't resonate with me. I'd expect the same here. Review: Well, I think "bahn bahn bahn its the Autobahn" (not the actual lyrics) is going to be stuck in my head all day. I mean this is fine for background music while I answer all my emails this morning, but its really not something I'm ever going to sit down and listen to. Maybe if I can find the radio version of the title track I'll add it to the playlist, but otherwise I have no interest in the 20-minute version. I'm giving this 2-stars despite knowing how influential it is.
ну совсем что-то амбианс автомагистрали не для меня
ENOUGH WITH THE GODDAMN ELECTRONICA
i dont like kraftwerk please stop
Not bad background music
Some sick songwriting and musicianship on here.
I could have walked away from the first song for 20 mins and missed nothing. 2.
Started off interesting but turned into a dull, repetitive and monotonous drone. Actually, that perfectly represents what it's like driving on an autobahn/motorway, so....
..
Early weird German techno stuff
Wasnt into this. Sounded like a sesame street segment.
Exept the "Autobahn"-theme nothing to convince me. Just because it is considered as influential I did really expect a lot more from this record.
More German noise. At least this one is somewhat melodic.
at the start not bad, after a while gets annoying
fahn fahn fahn off the autobahn
I listened to this 15 minutes ago, and I can't tell you a damn thing about it.
This is what happens when you give g*mers the courage to write music
Sure
Not much to say in here, I'm not a fan of Kraftwerk or the genre, and I don't think any album can change my mind now. Autobahn is pretty okay for the first few minutes, after which you're getting nauseous and sick of the all music altogether. Please, no more krautrock.
Strange but artsy. Not sure I always get art. Fav = fun fun fun on the autobahn
was this necessary
1970s Germany was not a happy place.
Oof. I'm glad that's over. Safe to say that this wasn't my jam.
i dont get it
Some nice bits but overall too experimental for my tastes.
Eh.
First song: 22 minutes of repetitive electronic music. "Fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn" are the only lyrics. The rest of it was good ambient music, but not something I would go out of my way to listen to.
Very boring but at the same time I can see how you could just throw this on for some background music. I wouldn't listen again but it's not the worst album I've heard so this gets a 2.
I completely understand why Kraftwerk is important to the development of music, yet I really feel no need to relisten to this album. I tend to enjoy minimalism in orchestral music but find it difficult to enjoy in electronic music.
its nice to think that in the 70s people pretended to be robots to make music that sounds incredibly human. i wonder what they would think of the musical hellscape that computers and AI have landed us with in the current day?
I'm not sure how to review this. It's an album that is purely instrumental and made up of synthy soundscapes. There is a bunch of layering going on. It really has this dream like quality... Some songs feel like I'm walking through a haunted house. A lot of cool things going on, that's for sure. Could I listen to a whole record of this? Well, yeah... I did. But would I want to outside of this list? Noooo. No.. Nooo. I appreciate what is going on. A lot of artists that I listen to use elements of what Kraftwerk does. And I'm sure they are an inspiration to them as well... but to me, this record is a portion of what I would like to hear. Even though it is layered and there are many ideas going on, I am left unfulfilled. Something is missing for me, to actually enjoy it.
hmmm
Weird
Fahn Fahn Fahn of the Autobahn.
Not for me
Helemaal uitgeluisterd, maar dat was het dan ook.
Nooit de lol van ingezien.
Ok
I liked the cover image... Yes, that's it. Still giving two stars, since it fades into the background nicely.
All over the place kind of had a feeling like midsommar in the end somehow? 2.5/5-meh
NOT MY VIBE
Pioneers if computer noise but that's about it noise.
A bit too experimental. Or not the type of out-there-ness I particularly like.
I get the significance. Just overall boring
It was definitely noises in a specific order
Kraftwerk is German for power plant. Autobahn is German for apathetic. 🏭🏭
I know Kraftwerk are revered innovators of their genre, but I just don’t fucking like it. I can say that this is not for me, with confidence, because I’ll just never get into it. I do not want. Very cool album artwork though.
Album art is dope. Seminal German electronic? Don't mind if I do. Welp, I've listened to this three times now in the background of work. I'm not exactly sure what I expected, but this was not it. A full side of the album is the namesake piece "Autobahn," which sort of rambles on through a layered synths and drums for nearly 23 minutes. Not a whole lot to sink into here for me. Kometenmelodie 1 is a moody ambient piece with a mixture of drums, static, and synth bass. This gives way to much more structured and poppy part 2, which to me is the most compelling song on the album. Mitternacht is another experimental ambient electonic song that sounds as if it was recorded to support a sci-fi scene taking place deep beneath the earth in a cave or sewer system. The album closes with Morgenspaziergang (say that 3 times fast) which is the lightest and most folksy of the record. The song is almost whimsical in nature. At the end of the day, I'm somewhat baffled. This album must have been revolutionarily experimental at the time. Even by today's standards, it is all over the place; not in a good way in my opinion. I'm a very soft 2 on this one.
I can appreciate the kraft and the werk but I don't know if I enjoy listening to 22 minute electronic songs from the 70s.
YES YES YES YES WE LOVE THE GERMANS
C Autobahn - 2 Kometenmelodie 1 - 3 Kometenmelodie 2 - 3 Mitternacht - 2 Morgenspaziergang - 2 Ze Juden (me) don't say Danke Schoen to this music.
It's unnoteworthy. I didn't skip any songs but I didn't really enjoy it
annoying
It's interesting to se that this either get a 1 or a 5 in the comments. When it comes to long songs i allways compare them with 2112 by rush which i think is the best 20 min song because of it's structure as a story. I feel like autobahn lacks a narrative which makes it sound like a 22 min long improvisation. But i guess that it's supposed to simulate the relative monotoni of driving on the autobahn. As a listener of electronic music i can se the impact Kraftwerk had on the development of electronic music but this is a bit too noodly for me
Not to sound like a broken record, but I really can't get into this genre. I have nothing against the artists - I just don't understand what's "good" or "unique" among the bands that do this. This album sounds like the soundtrack to an acid trip - which is cool I guess.
Música electrónica. Bastante tostón. Un 2.
This was an interesting album it either was decent but not sure if fell asleep during autobahn or if it was what most of the album.
None of it was inherently bad; some of it was weird, but most of it felt like an into to some other song where something actually happens. Autobahn was the highlight and that's not saying much
beep boop It sure is some more Kraftwerk. I can't say I'd listen to it out of choice
Sounded like a year 9 composition project. Sorry Autobahn, won't be coming back.
Meh
Rating: 4/10
I have been told that this music is groundbreaking, and yet all I think is that it sounds a lot like video game music for something with graphics slightly more complex than the Atari 2600. OK, maybe that was a little too mean, but the songs seem kinda boring. And a 22 minute side-long song about driving on the Autobahn? Geez, it should have at least had movements where things happened. It just seem to drone one. The last track I did like, it was peaceful and meditative. I can imagine that more of the other pieces (particularly "Autobahn") would be great for that kind of thing. I never did quite get Bowie's infatuation with this stuff in the Berlin trilogy, and hearing this album I still don't totally see it. As contemplative, new age-y pieces, I've heard stuff that's better that's out there.
Not offensive to listen to but very boring. Barely music. Komet 2 was the only song I somewhat liked.
Early electronic music was still finding its footing, so I can't fault this album for that, but boy oh boy about 10 minutes into the first song you start to wonder if anything of value is going to happen.
Felt like a European fever dream
Just not my vibe. But last track kinda hits
It is not good, it is IMPORTANT
Well this was something. I’m into prog rock so I was intrigued for the first 5-10 minutes. But it just turned into a bunch of noise and button pushing and Im convinced I could create something similar in my basement in an hour.
By the sounds of it, this album will get a lot of hate. I didn't hate it. I will never listen again, but it was good background music while working. I'd give it 2.5 of I could. Rounding down.
If you started driving on the Autobahn and played this song, you’d 1000% reach the end of the autobahn before the track finished. This album is perfect for sketching drawings of what a Time Machine would look like. I actually have immense respect for what I heard on the album from these innovators. Incredibly experimental with combining sounds, and paving the way for those who came after. That said, I’ll never listen to this Miiternacht shit again. It’s fun to listen once and then melt this record down with a blow dryer. On the other hand, this laid the groundwerk for electronic music to flourish, and of course the first crack at it will sound rough by todays standards. Based on influence alone, this album has tremendous merit. Anyone who gave it a 1, shame on you! I’ll give it a 2
Its their first album and the sound isnt very refined at this stage in their career.
I had the first song stuck in my head for a bit, maybe because it was so long, but the rest of the songs I skipped so not sure why this was on this list besides it feeling like a kind of experiment.
This was not really fun, although it blended away in the background after a while
Autobahn is fun for a while, not for 22 minutes. Not much else on this album
4/10. Why do I always listen to the really boring albums right after lunch?
I get that it was the 70s and some of this was ahead of its time but I really feel like this is just bad ambient music. Like, “fun fun fun on the autobahn” was the best you could think of?? 4/10
The main track wasn’t bad. If anything, it was kind of entertaining. But the sounds of the others were much more annoying.
The only redeeming factor about this record is that it sometimes sounded like music from a video game. Then again, if I wanted to listen to video game music I would just.. you know, play video games?
Not really my thing, you know?
I know their supposedly revolutionary in the world of electro-music, but I just can’t get on board. Give me some crystal moccasins any day.
While I can appreciate the electronic experimentation going on here, the LP is just too simple melodically to justify its track lengths or existence really. Not sure I would've been as accepting as I was with this one if it wasn't on as background music while I cleaned the house.
Get how influential this is for electronic music, but personally it got a bit boring and was a slog come the end.
It’s really good, it just didn’t capture my attention while listening in the car. It’s super relaxing and I kept falling asleep to the beautiful instrumentals.
Sure. Visionary music from synthesizers and drum machines. The birthplace of EDM. Too bad I can't tell any of it apart.
I get what the album is trying to say and evoke in your mind and it does that pretty well. But I just didn't like it much. Highlight was Kometenmelodie 2 and some sections of title track. But other than that I was just hoping for it to move on. I guess my mind was also clouded from disappointment since I really enjoyed other Kraftwerk album I got earlier.
songs too dang long
Pretty boring. I thought kraftwerk were a lot darker than this for some reason.
Ehhhh....
Definitely worth a listen, sure it's very influential, can't see myself going back to it.
It gets a bit samey but works alright in the background like a retro video game soundtrack.
"A family cannot survive on kraftwerk alone" the bible
Very interesting album. Most of the record is the first song. It kind of just becomes noise after a certain amount of time. Its very experimental and different but that doesn't necessarily make it any good. Sure its interesting at points and the production can be cool, but most of the record just feels uninspired. Favorite Track: Kometenmelodie 2 Least Favorite Track: Autobahn
Quite boring... fahr, fahr auf der Autobahn!
Fuck cars and fuck autobahns. I can’t believe there are three Kraftwerk albums on this list. Yes I know how influential they are, but almost every one of their students surpassed them as their music has the repetitiveness and the teeth of music written for toddlers.
really NOT my thing
You know, not bad for background noise.
I really don't like this band... two albums by them is kinda painful.
Tranquilo de escuchar. Musicalmente parece música relajante. Sin estridencias. No aporta mucho
Eh it was okay, a bit too long.
Kraftwerk surprend une fois de plus: on ne s'attendait en effet pas à les voir se pointer une troisième fois dans la liste de Robert avec leur musique de merde.
No idea what I'm in for. House? Jazz? Rock? The album cover is exquisite and so ahead of its time. Ah, electronic. Ah, this is just hte cover for the remastered version. -I mean.....this is good. And definitely ahead of its time. But I'm not sure if I'm vibing with it. Feels very repetitive and doesn't have a "vibe" -Yeah I feel bad but this one didn't really do anything for me. At least it was pretty. 2 stars.
I was expecting techno. Kraftwerk are a blank spot in my music knowledge really beyond 'The Model'. More folky than I expected, but not really lighting my fire.
I had minimal fun on the Autobahn. It was a bit of an endurance test at times yet I did see some charm in it. I can understand why others would enjoy this and the influence factor as well I suppose but this is a trip I don't plan on taking again.
This sounds like they took a single and stretched it into an album. I like the first 7 or 8 minutes of the title track but it's painfully long. The LP was no doubt influential and ground-breaking, especially since this was their first pure electronic album. There's not too much on side 2 to catch my attention. It was 1974, I appreciate, but the compositions aren't very compelling. Spotify played something from Man Machine (and the Jean Michel Jarre) afterward which were heavenly by comparison.
Música electrónica. Bastante tostón. Un 2.
Must have been innovative at the time
ehh
Look, I know it's groundbreaking, and it paved the way for what was to come, but if we're honest, isn't it a little bit dull, a little bit electro noodly, and a little bit self indulgent?
Ughhhhh I hated it. Sorry.
Meh
I've enjoyed most of the Kraftwerk albums that I've listened to. This one I liked the least of them. Maybe since it is the first time I've heard it. I know (of course) the title song - didn't know it was so long though. 2.5/5
So who is the most overrated cult band in music history and why is it Kraftwerk? Sometimes I think people overpraise Kraftwerk just because Bowie liked them. Personally they bore the shit out of me within 5 minutes.
nope
I'm so sorry I still don't massively get this. I liked the last song that was just completely different but the rest of it, left me cold. I know this is meant to be amazing, not sure what I'm missing
Not bad, I don't know if it really qualifies as music tho.
This is a strange beast. Obviously it was innovative upon its release, and even today it still sounds like a science experiment. It is quite monotonous though. I was expecting to enjoy this much more than I did. I'm glad I've listened, it feels like something that should be heard, like a lesson in the evolution of music, but isn't really something I'd choose to hear again.
Idk how much kraftwerk I need to listen to to before I die but I almost died of boredom from the song autobahn. Overall this album was mildly boring but mitternacht was good
Disclaimer: Adolf Hitler was a horrible, genocidal maniac. When the Autobahn was created in the 1920s and 30s, it became the first modern national highway system. And it happened largely thanks to the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party, who invested considerable economic and human capital into its construction. It allowed, among other things, the easier mobilization of the Nazi war machine. And after the war, it inspired the creation of Eisenhower's Interstate Highway System, which in turn solidified the dominance of post-war car culture, lack of mass transit infrastructure, and gas-guzzling and fast food addictions. Were they setting us up for future conquest all along? Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" begins with the title track that feels like you are cruising down the highway with no speed limit, even literally singing "We drive, drive, drive on the Autobahn." Then you take the next exit, and the roads get stranger and more experimental. One song/road was built around a leaky faucet, I think. Both the Autobahn and Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" were ahead of their time, and paved the way for things both great and awful. Only one of them was built by an evil dictator, though.
Weird
Ich verstehe es nicht. Ich denke das es ist nich sooo schlecht aber es ist nich für mich. Eine tag ich möchte fahren auf der Autobahn aber nicht heute. Danke meine Freunde. Meine deutsch ist sehr gut.
Not my thing, but cool.
Dull and kinda weird, not my thing
beep boop vroom vroom
The music of bureaucracy, capital, self-interest. It's up to you to decide just how oh-so-arch it is. Just enough for me, but I'll understand if you opt out. What saves them is their love of melody and repetition, which isn't in dispute, though it doesn't come in the usual shape and size. Given how little love is on offer here, I'll take whatever I can get.
Nah, didn't get this at all. I found autobahn interesting for the first 3 minutes or so...
Decent background music album. Can respect that they are the root of a lot of the artists I like but don’t see myself coming back to this.
I wasn’t so keen on this one…
At the time this album came out it must of been ground breaking new music that blew minds. Feel like a B movie soundtrack that makes for great background noise.
boring. autobahn was kinda interesting but yawn
initial thoughts: starting out with a 22 minute song huh? bold, but i’ll take it fav from album: autobahn
It's the future, apparently. Does that include the bloody flute? 22 minutes was pushing it a little for the title track. The wonky key changes didn't help. At best this could be packaged up as Electro 18.
ok
Didn't like this one as much as Man Machine
Seemed esoteric and experimental. Felt decent at best and uneasy at worst
Pretty cool concept. Not sure if I'd class some of it as 'music' but still enjoyable
Nope.
driving on the motorway ennit
Надо как-нибудь внимательнее переслушать, так как синты у них классные
Langdradig
The man-machine was better. This is a little to weird. But it has that dark scary technologic vibe that I love. And wow the original album cover might be the ugliest image I have seen yet. The remastered us much better. Damn what a weird album. 2/5 so far
Whoa - now this is new to me. Never heard of them, never heard of this, never thought this would be something people wanted to hear. So, anyway, let's go. Autobahn - Song builds like it's trying to introduce something. I would assume that this music was experimental for its day. Reminds me of the Blue Man Group. "Repetitive electronic music" is putting it mildly. That being said, I don't hate it. Fahren, fahren, fahren auf der Autobahn. How long is this "song?" Kometenmelodie 1 - Ok - was actually not sure if I was still listening to Autobahn - that song was 22 minutes. Anyway, this is well, like an 80s David Lynch movie. Just synth and piano, and ominous buzzing. Kometenmelodie 2 - Now we're bouncing. Stark contrast to 1. Victorious is what comes to mind. Mitternacht is back to the Kometenmelodie 1 sensibilities. Kometenmelodie 2 is definitely the preferred sound so far. Morgenspaziergang - The last song is like radio waves and a flute. So we're way out there now. Way, way, way out there. Overall, this was a fun diversion into something I've never ever ever thought to listen to. Is it good? To me, not really. It's hardly listenable in terms of a cohesive thing. It's avantgarde in that it is art for sure, but not what I would consider musically appealing. My guess would be these guys are cited as influences to bands like Depeche Mode though.
Didn’t finish
Wild, noisey, comforting, I guess
what did i just listen to?
Il brano Autobahn è un polpettone epico e senza motivo, negli altri brani invece ci sono alcune cose interessanti ma sono una piccola parte del disco. Secondo me è un album sopravvalutato.
Kraftwerk are incredibly important and have some great albums, the most influential electronic act of all time without a doubt. Autobahn however is not the reason for this legacy and does sound dated. It is nearly half a century old but in comparison to similarly aged Krautrock gems Tago Mago or Neu! 75, it is not up to the mark.
The title track is dull and tediously long. The other tracks are fairly incoherent. It’s hard to shit on an album that is universally considered so important and influential. But while I recognise the significance of this album 50 years ago, I would never stick this on to enjoy today.
Good and bad in equal measure
What did I just listen to? The title track was the only one that I even remotely recognize...
The title track is tediously long. The other tracks are fairly incoherent. It’s hard to shit on an album that is universally considered so important and influential. But while I recognise the significance of this album 50 years ago, I would never stick this on to enjoy today.
No conecto, no lo disfruto. Soniditos que avanzan sin emoción ni momentos bellos ni nada. No es lo mío.
Fan of the autobahn? Yes. Fan of this album? No. Tedious.
wtf
Trippy twisted.
This is a strange beast. Obviously it was innovative upon its release, and even today it still sounds like a science experiment. It is quite monotonous though. Now I’m a man who can appreciate good electronic music. Even though kraftwerk were one of the originators this album was a bit too wild for me. Sounded like they were having a play with their new synthesiser and just hit record. 2/5
Its OK as ambient music but I cannot really remember a thing about it.
Weird
Weird, early electronic / noise music. The fun fun fun of the autobahn... Creative, but does not move me at all.
Eh... not my favorite. Some cool sounds going on, just not the kind of thing I feel like sitting down and listening to a whole album of. Favorite Track(s): “Morganspaziergang”
Not my thing it sounded like it came from the original Tron soundtrack
Aprecio o esforço, mas mt sem nexo pra mim
The cool kind of weird alternative up to the point when they start to sing... I just don't enjoy listening to German language.
Sounds like Ross's "soundscapes". No thanks.
Not awful, not my style at all.
I REALLY wanted to like this album more. I just... couldn't. It's a two for me. I can see how influential this album was to so many, but to me, it just really sounds like a few guys playing with synthesizers.
2/5
Not quite as horrible as that garbage "the man-machine", but I still didn't like it.
Just not my thing.
One of the most boring, mindless albums I've ever heard, there's nothing interesting about it. I'm not listening to this ever again. For starters, the opening song. This song felt truly neverending, and I mean it in the worst way possible. 22 minutes of the same boring melodies, along with annoying, repetitive lyrics, and still, this is the "better" song on this album. The rest of this album is just equally boring, unmemorable, and bland like the first song, but worse. Nothing great about this album overall.
I am in a streak of horrible albums. The last 10 come to a 1.1 average. This list must have been put out by Dyson, because it really sucks.
Whoever thought this album should be in the list has real problems and should be sacrificed to the kraken. This album sucks
Awful
Dreary, repetitive techno Europop.
Honestly, sounded like the jams my brother and I composed & played on our Casio keyboard as kids--it wasn't good back then either.
mneh
Some fun, fun, fun on the autobahn but a 23 minute ride is too long boys. The rest of the album sounds like it's from an old horror movie and you end up in a bonsai garden which I Iike but weird. This may be an influential album and laid down some electronica foundations, just not as good as their later work. Still figuring it out I guess. 1.35 stars for this drive.
I get what Kraftwerk was going for here but man was Autobahn a drag to get through. Kraftwerk's ode to driving came off as 22 minutes of some of the worst aspects of the activity. I found the whole song to be redundant, repetitive, somewhat frustrating and wishing it was over, much like sitting in traffic. I was hoping for a reprieve on the back half with Kometenmelodie and the other tracks but unfortunately it did not deliver. When all was said and done I found Autobahn to be mostly a forty-minute chore. I often listen to these albums on my drive home from work and they typically offer a great escape from the monotony of the commute. I was hoping this could be a casual companion piece but listening to Autobahn on my drive home was one of the worst ways to get through it. Incidentally I had already listened to Autobahn somewhat recently for a separate reason (Sounds Like Teen Spirit) and found it pretty insufferable that time around as well. I can confidently say that I can't blame the traffic/commute as the reason I didn't enjoy this. I like electronic music quite a bit and appreciate Kraftwerk for helping to popularize the genre but this album was a surprise dud for me. 1.05 stars
pocas cosas me parecen tan malucas como esta banda y todo lo que hacen
Just not for me
dominated by a 23 minute opening title track that plays like a chibi robo loading screen. every three minutes when the chorus comes in with "fahn fahn fahn off the autobahn" i wanted to clasp my hands in prayer and wish for just *something* to happen musically speaking. surely young german couples in the 70's were popping this shit on to occupy their toddlers like primeval baby shark. not since frank zappa has a song just kind of made me mad. by and large the other half of the album didn't change that impression. the weird lovely little moment in Morgenspaziergang made me happy if only by contrast
Shite! Someone just pushed demo on a keyboard! THIS IS NOT MUSIC!!!
Not my thing at all
What am I listening to? Okay this is some futuristic bullshit not a fan ans I am struggling to comprehend why this is considered a must listen to album... huh???
What the heck did I listen to??
I think I like this less than the first Kraftwerk album. Some of these songs sounded like an elementary school student composed them.
this shit blows ass
ONE
This is just not for me
unlistenable
Больные люди , у которых поездка по автобану ассоциируется с этим
Dnf
Those sure were some noises. Germany is weird
I’ve heard of Kraftwerk but I’ve never heard any of their songs. Autobahn: 1/10 Don’t really know what to say. A 22 minute song with just random sound effects and the occasional line repeated. Kometenmelodie 1: 0/10 Kometenmelodie 2: 0.5/10 Mitternacht: suck full Morgenspaziergang: suck full
What the hell was that
You know who else liked autobahn?
You ever driving and you hear a song and you’re like ‘I don’t love this but I’ll let it play out”? Well, imagine that song lasts your entire commute. 1 star. Would not listen again
Repetitive, motorik-driven grooves built from rigid electronic pulses, synthetic textures, minimalist melodies, and emotionally distant vocals move this electronic album like being trapped in a car with a malfunctioning engine hum—relentless, noisy, and so unyielding in its mechanical repetition that it feels stubbornly inaccessible.
Sounds like maja keyboard very interesting
Nope
Terrible, incredibly boring.
Autobahn is a tough listen. I can absolutely see why people call it important, groundbreaking and influential — but actually sitting down and listening to it is another matter entirely. The title track takes up nearly half the album at 22 minutes, and for me it just doesn’t go anywhere. It drifts, hums and loops without ever really rewarding your patience. I know that’s kind of the point, but it feels less hypnotic and more like being stuck in slow traffic. Conceptually clever, musically very thin. Overall, I’ve got no desire to come back to this one. I respect it far more than I enjoy it. Favourite track: Kometenmelodie 2 – slightly more energetic, a bit perkier, and crucially much shorter than the rest. Least favourite track: Autobahn – far too long and painfully dull. Nothing happens. It’s like spending two hours on the M40. Album artwork: Brilliant. I love the cover — easily the best thing about the album.
this felt like punishment
Bad. OG EDM?
Sorry but no. Just can’t get into Germann dweebs geeking out on their electronic gadgets. No soul whatsoever.
Like someone threw a tumble dryer down a fucking long flight of stairs. More hardwerk than kraftwerk. Scheiße
It was impressive how effectively they would abandon the enjoyable parts of their songs for ambient dog sounds.
I listened to a German guy say the same sentence for 20 minutes, and checked out from the rest.
Space mountain without the fun
I’m sorry you’re always gonna lose me when you start the album off with a 22 minute track like wtf?!?????
Oui ok c'est "genre defining" et tout et tout. C'est surtout chiant et nul.
I know how important Kraftwerk were for the development of electronic music, but that’s like saying that because the CD was important to the development of music I should listen to blank CDRs. This is pointless and boring. One star.
What a load of rubbish. Boring and uninspired. Sounds like a 12 year old made it.
Not my thing at all
Not for me, super boring and repetitive
Yeah not a fan of this one at all. Would have quite happily died before listening to this one. It’s only rated because of its cultural significance but it’s fucking shit without the context. Specific rating- 0.6 Fav - Mitternacht Least fav- autobahn
Maybe I'd like it more if I could drive. Or was German. Or didn't have ears. I know it was super culturally/musically significant but I just don't think I'll ever be a Kraftwerk fan. Favourite song: Autobahn (would be better if there was about 18 minutes less of it tho) Least: Morgenspaziergang
Not what I can listen too, unless I was “Tripping”😂
The worst album I’ve ever heard. Collection or random screeching noises. Terrible
Today I am in a bad mood and won't overthink that I like this garbage or it is somehow interesting
Electronic music just isn't for me.
51 years ago I didn't like this at all and I haven't changed my mind. 1 star or F.
Before I started listening to this album, I committed that I would listen all the way through and not give up after a couple of songs or in this case part way through a 22 minutes on. I powered through it, but barely. I understand that Kraftwerk is cutting edge in the electronica space and among the pantheon of music of gods to many, but man it was painful to listen to. I can understand, listening to it in small snippets or simply background music but how many hallucinogens do you have to be on to make this pleasant to listen to for 42 minutes straight?
Not my taste.
Not my thing
The audacity of this app giving me a Kraftwerk album and then three albums later giving me another. I didn't have the first one, but it was bizarre and I wasn't eager to listen to it again, or listen to another album by them, or even another kraut rock album in general. My biggest complaint of the previous album i reviewed of theirs was that the songs had nice grooves but they went on for too long and got repetitive. So, you can imagine my expectations when I see a 42-minute, 5-track album. And a 22-minute opening song? Maybe it won't be completely boring throughout. 17 minutes in..."I am NOT having fun on the Autobahn" The outro was kind of interesting, but again, what could have been a minute or less, was over three minutes of the same chord progression. Whatever, I'm just glad I'm over halfway through this thing. Unfortunately the second "half" of the album was worse than the opening song. So much boring ambient noise. The only song that was slightly memorable was the last one but I think that was because it reminded me of the theme of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and even then I got sick of it when it repeated for the 20th time.
Wasn’t for me
Boring fuckin garbage jfc
