Reviews (page 7 of 7)
Waste of time for everyone
Weird and I think I went to sleep at some point
I would rather live in Moss Side in 1989 than listen to this again
Yeah, for real though. Who is listening to this? It's not terrible or anything, but why is it here? Like what kind of nerd said this deserves a spot in the representative list of popular music and its evolution. Like huh? Ok. Well at least this next one will be eventful (3/10, 1/5 on this scale)
Interesting concept, not interesting music
What in the B movie bullshit is this album about?
"he recorded ...... in hopes of being hired to write music for actual films" Really? I am listening to someone's attempt to be hired....why....
Not for me
Hur. I. Hela. Fridens. Namn. Kan. Detta. Vara. Av. Någon. Som. Helst. Vikt. Eller. Betydelse??? Det finns inget i detta som jag kände "wow, vad bra det låter". Detta sätter man inte på och lyssnar på. För det finns ingen film man sett och kan känna "jag vill lyssna mer på den underbara musiken".
Nein.
??? 'A soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist, eine kritik die niemand liest, naja irgendwie muss ja experimental auch rein in die 1001, also spannend, mal was komplett neues...haha aber irgendwie halt auch lame, dann gleich jazz oder Satie...c
Terrible
This album is a journey. A journey no one needs to go on. The left turns some of the songs take are too abrupt and, quite frankly, bizarre and off-putting. Hard pass on this one.
Just background noise
There were a couple moments that were almost interesting but overall this was a pretty awful listen. If this were the soundtrack for an actual movie, I’d be hiring a new composer. I’m not sure what Barry Adamson is trying to convey. The music is too boring and uncompelling to care.
A soundtrack for an imaginary film. I don't need this in my life.
Didn’t finish, didn’t want to do this
cool, a movie soundtrack or something. definitely real music 1/5
Lame
Bored
Déjà les BO de films généralement c'est chiant. Mais alors les BO expérimentales de films qui n'existent pas. Au secours.
Bleh. I couldn't do it. I'm sure some people listen to this and think "Oh, what a cool idea! I feel like I'm in a movie." God bless. I listen to this and think "This is basically background noise." I'm definitely not the target audience here as I'm not big on soundtracks or instrumental-only albums, but even so I found this hard to get through.
Oh, THIS guy again. I already got Oedipus Schmoedipus. It is another album that was intended to be some sort of soundtrack for a nonexistent crime film. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily translate to an enjoyable album listening experience to me. It really falls down in the second half for me. There are a handful of moments that remind me of downtempo artists that I enjoy, but overall it's not for me. Less appealing to me than Oedipus Schmoedipus by far.
This was... weird. Like I knew the concept and sometimes I could see the vision but then it would go off the rails but I can't pretend like it didn't have an occasional groove to it. 2/10 This also officially marks on year on this project. Can't believe I made it this far tbh. Just about 2 more years left on the main list and then who knows how much more for the user list, but it's currently sitting at another year. Wild.
This sucks, sorry Barry
I think that any enjoyment from this music requires two things. First: a predisposition towards classical music, and second: the willpower to actually trawl through Barry Adamson’s vision for this work to actually understand what the hell is going on in this concept album. I have neither of those two things and I come away feeling annoyed and bored. This would be perfectly fine for a movie score - but it’s not that, and that’s not the purpose of this list. 💫
Zzzzzzz
Sorry I should’ve given it a go but I was high and scared
This literally is the equivalent of a film soundtrack. But not a film soundtrack with hit songs like Saturday Night Fever or Guardians Of The Galaxy. No, it’s film incidental music with the odd sound effect. And as such it’s not really complete without the accompanying film. So, since only half of the project is here, then I’ll mark it out of 2½
stupid
Je n’ai qu’une question. Pourquoi?
Just making a bunch of sounds with instruments hoping it will be picked up by movie/tv or commercials. How does an album like this sell? Diddle around in some studio software and you too can make this album
The only point I can see in film soundtracks is that listening to it reminds you of scenes in films you love. This film doesn’t exist therefore it’s completely pointless to my mind. The only album in about 100 that I’ve skipped through the tracks and was relieved to get to the end. Shite.
Pointless
The synth instruments, the odd choice of making a soundtrack for a movie that doesn't exist, the added sound effects that are completely without context. It was a strange one.
I’d never heard of Barry Adamson before starting this project, but I learned who he was after reviewing Magazine’s Real Life a few years ago (that album has been one of my absolute favorite discoveries during this project). After doing a bit of light research, Moss Side Story sounds like a pretty interesting concept. If Barry’s other work with Magazine is any indication, I think I’ll enjoy this album! Huh. Well, that was conceptually adventurous. Moss Side Story was a big swing and miss with me. I think the concept of a soundtrack album without a movie is a bold idea, but to me, this album was mostly generic music that feels completely unnecessary. I want a movie soundtrack to tell a story or convey a mood, but this album didn’t do either of those things. Act One was pretty bland, but I had high hopes when Act Two started with “Sounds from the Big House.” The metallic percussion and reverb sounded like cell doors slamming, evoking the feeling of walking through a prison to interview a suspect, but any narrative or emotion that was established on that song was immediately lost on the next track. “Autodestruction” had an industrial sound that I liked, but it failed to establish any mood or tell any part of a story. Moss Side Story just felt like a mess to me, and I can’t think of any rhyme or reason for it to exist. I’m hoping Barry’s other album that I still need to review will be better.
Why have we decided to do this challenge? This makes me question my existence.
I don't know what I'm listening to, nor why I need to listen to this. Other reviews call this a soundtrack for a film that doesn't exist, and that's pretty close. At best, this is background music that slips in one ear and out the other. At worst, it's just noise.
A collection of sound effects.
Load of bollocks. Just a collection of sounds thrown together.
Listening to Parallel Lines, Abbey Road and then this felt like watching the Godfather trilogy all over again
De borde lagt låten som heter "Free at Last" sist
I give it 1 because it is a tracklist for a made up movie and has no replay value beyond the first listen. The concept is unique, but I believe there is a heavy lack of substance to make the project itself interesting.
öhmmmm dasch unagnehm? glaub e frau wo umbrocht wird? und denn ENDLICH chli bassgitarre. central control het etz mol sone crime-mässigi melodie. aber yoo dasch jo mega langwilig alles? sounds from the big house isch sochli gfürchig type musig sehr klischee? alte check da album nuuuuuull. suck on the honey of love het sehr cools klavier. bin bi auto destruction und hasses recht fest. es isch afoch en soundtrack und de film muemer sich vorstelle. okay. aber denn isches halt nöd so spannend wie en film? fuck it ich los d bonustracks nöd. nai. 1.
It might be because I was up at 4:00 today but this was giving me a headache 1/5
No, just no. All over the place with not much cohesion. Couldn’t finish it
Day578 - its like a movie score that no one asked for
What?
Proto Ai slop
I don’t get it. But they I read he started out with Nick Cave. Now I know why I don’t get it
No thanks
Sounds like it was made specifically to give you a nightmare trip
Weird, I thought this was a list of music albums.
The idea is interesting, and it’s executed well enough (although I wish it told more of a story, in a sense). With the exception of the Alfred Hitchcock track though, I didn’t find it interesting to listen to. Really, who is this for? Hollywood producers, apparently? I mean, I’m a huge film buff. I love crime movies and film noirs too. The fact that I thought this was self indulgent and for no actual listener, and I’m the prime target for this sort of thing, says a lot about how it should probably just be swept into the dustbin of history.
Dire. Zero musical merit
what if a movie, but for blind people?
Didn't like this at all. Concept is interesting, I guess, but I really dont enjoy horror or suspense and a whole album that's just the sound of those two ideas was seriously torture.
Didn’t need to hear that
First song (On the Wrong Side of Relaxation) - Very unsettling Central Control has some good vibes Stopped listening, not for me at all
Definitely thought that was a soundtrack to some film. Turns out it was just made as such, but it was not written for any particular movie. The whole album felt like it could’ve been a demo for the score to the Grim Fandango game, which seems fitting since the album aims for a noir movie setting. I must say, listening to it without a movie in mind as a studio album, it falls pretty flat. There are definitely some parts that are more interesting than others, but I can’t say I enjoyed it that much, even as a movie soundtrack. Therefore I am quite questioning as to why it’s even on the list. Not a good studio album, and not a particularly good soundtrack, what is left then? Overall I wouldn’t recommend this. Might have been novel when it came out, but it was more noises than interesting soundscapes and other atmospheric touches. Strong 1.
nah, 1/5 or 0.
No clue what the hell this album is.
Garbage. No thanks
What is this? WHile I appreciate that it is something new to me, I did not care to listen to it.
Less than 1 star. Negative 1 star. Pointless. Waste of time.
Fuck, I hate this. What’s the point? It is literally a soundtrack and has absolutely no meaning because it is missing the film. 1.2
I can appreciate what it it was trying to do artistically, and while it certainly accomplished what it set out to do (sound like a soundtrack to a film), I did not enjoy this one bit. No single song on this album works outside the context of the album itself. I didn't enjoy listening to the album as a whole, and I can't envision myself ever listening to this album again.
That was pretty miserable
vad är detta
did not fw
I get why it could be interesting for someone that likes soundtracks but I generally never listen to movie soundtracks so listening to one for a pretend movie just does nothing for me.
I mean, if we're not going to get into classical, I don't see why this gets to be on the table. Also, didn't move me.
I listened to the first half of one song, so hard to judge...but I immediately wanted to get off this ride.
Ok
What is this music, how is this on the list?? What a mess!
I thought this was a soundtrack for a movie I wasn’t going to watch
I did not really care for this, a concept album and soundtrack to an imaginary movie. Totally not my scene. I'm sure it's someone's.
How did this guy earn two spots on the list? Where is Built To Spill? Modest Mouse? Neutral Milk Hotel? Like them or not, they at least influenced musicians who came after them and are way more deserving of everyone’s time than whatever the fuck this is and all the endless triphop and britpop I’ve had to endure or ignore. I really am not enjoying this project much anymore.
Why?
Sounds slimy. Yuck.
This shit just pissed me off
1 - did not enjoy
i really appreciated the random screaming and noises…
I just could not engage at all with this.
No purpose, no good. Sorry.
no
I skimmed through this one. It's fuckin' weird. Read the description before you waste your time. 1/5.
I would love to say that I understood what happened here, but I can't. Not a bad album, but not the best I've ever heard.
On the wrong side of relaxation is (an aptly named) unsettling yet intriguing start. I was not in the right headspace for this album and couldn't finish it. Ranking is tough... On a personal experience level it's very much 1 star, I did not enjoy it. But at the same time I get the sense that's rather the point and there is a lot of interesting things going on.... In the end I'm just not able to appreciate them at this point in time.
I did not enjoy this at all.
This was wildly uninteresting
I stole this because it fit perfectly.....I have neither the time nor the inclination to listen to the soundtracks of movies that do exist, let alone ones that don’t. An absolute chore.
Most Shite Story.
Puh, hab's nicht gecheckt
An album that is a soundtrack for a murder movie that isn't real? Dumb. Which just about sums up this album lol. I didn't get the story AT ALL and I understand that the titles of the songs tell the story but...I still don't get it. Props to Barry Adamson because he was able to use this towards a portfolio to later make soundtracks to real movies, but this is a dud. Half the songs just gave me anxiety because I had no idea what was going on, but it sounded tense **cough cough** "Auto Destruction" **cough cough**. I will never return to this lol. Some songs had MOMENTS, where the tracks were very jazzy, but....eh. "Everything Happens to Me" was a pretty beautiful track tho. I'll give this a 1.5 for its moments. Liked Songs: "The Swinging Detective" was cool until the end, "Under Wraps" was good but never went ANYWHERE, and "Everything Happens to Me"
liked songs: Under Wraps I like the concept; make a soundtrack to a movie that doesn't exist. I don't love the execution. Too much of this is just noises. 1.5
I didn't understand this album and I was not interested in it, it started out weird and never got better lol
The first “song” set a horrible precedent for the rest of the album. I had to check if my ears were clogged and that the volume was up. Dead air for about 40 seconds followed by Barely perceptible sounds is terrible. The rest of the album was fucking trash.
Sucked
Dit was fucking raar. Blijkbaar een soundtrack voor een film die niet bestaat. 1 ster voor de moeite
Woof
Very cinematic. Not really my style.
Oh wow, fake music. Oh wow, BAD fake music.
All albums will be 1, 3 or 5 stars, with no further commentary or explanation given. Played via streaming, first time listen.
1. zide - 1 2. under - 1 3. control - 0 4. round - 0 5. houze - 0 6. honey - 1 7. me - 1.5 8. detective - 1 9. auto - 0 10. care - 1 11. girl - 0 12. free - 1 13. hitchcock - 0 14. chocolate - 0 15. man - 1
why doesn't the 'concept' ever seem to be "songs that are any good" it'd have to be a hell of a resume for a job application be on a list of great literature. this is not that. hated. (⌐■_■)
Wenn ich Straßenlärm hören will, fahr ich in die Stadt.
Onkohan tämä nyt semmoinen "main character moment"? Ykkösen katku on ilmassa ensimmäisistä sekunneista lähtien.
Weird.
Weird. I don't get it
If you made a list of must hear albums back in 1991, I can see including this in the mix if not just on the edge of making the cut. However, if this list was made in 1992, then I can almost promise you a dozen or so albums more deserving were released so this could fade away into obscurity, never to be heard again.
Whacky weird sounding atmospheric tracks
Just terrible
Sorry but no
Oh gosh no. I don’t like soundtracks at the best of times, but when there’s not even a film to accompany it? Hard pass.
Wow. This is a truly terrible album. The only reason I can think of for it to be on this list would be as an example of when a concept is so awful that you want a physical piece of evidence as to how shit it can be. 1/5
Someone’s high school music/film project does not need to be on 1001 albums you need to listen to.
They could have picked the lion king soundtrack but picked this instead
???
If you have NOTHING to do this day, then this is your thing.
Noises, mostly.
This is the second Barry Adamson album picked by the generator. I actually liked the first one Oedipus Schmoedepus. Moss Sode Story is disappointing. It’s more ranadom and boring than it is bad.
1 out of 5. I can appreciate what Barry was trying to do but it didn't land with me.
Music is to enjoy. Why would I ever need or want to listen to this??? A quick easy turn-off.
*starts record* *3 songs in* “So this is a soundtrack, but to what movie??” *reads summary* … a soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist “Oh ok” 1.9/10
Weird very weird
I’ve asked a load of people whether they ever heard of this. No one had. Pure nonsense
Not gonna lie, I was digging a trench while listening to this album. Between the two, not sure which was worse. No doubt I’ll dig more trenches. The other? You’re asking too much of me.
Just…. No
Very fitting as I leave Nashville
This is a concept album. The concept is that this is a score to a crime film that doesn't exist. This comes right from the album summary: "The music is almost completely instrumental except for occasional screams, vocal samples and a choir."... Fuck... This album was utter garbage. I don't understand why this would be included on a list like this.... No redeeming qualities at all. Favourite songs: Under Wraps Least favourite songs: On the Wrong Side of Relaxation (entirely made up of whispering and screaming..... Wtf)... And the rest of this God forsaken album 1/5
This is not music, it’s just noise. 😭
Anyone actually listened to this?
To be honest he'd already lost me at "Moss Side". If it was anything like the area it was bound to be bad. And it was The last track sounded like a poundland James Bond theme Whoever added this album to the 1001 list needs to give their head a good wobble 1 ⭐️
The best part about this is the concept. I love the idea of a soundtrack for an imaginary film, but I don't ever wanna listen to this one again. I don't think I get it. Maybe I'm just not big on soundtracks unless they're accompanied by films I enjoy.
This sounds like a copy of a movie soundtrack that wasn't made to be that good.
could i write poetry to this? n
What is this album doing here? It's background music for a movie that doesn't even exist. I just don't get it.
No, absolutely not
Imagine wasting time and effort in making an instrumental album for a movie that doesn't exist *and* it gets picked as one of the 1001 best albums of all time *AND* no movie was made using this album since it's 1989 release. YIKES. 2/10.
Next update this should be the first one off of this list. It’s movie background music.
Wtf was that??? Horrible. I can’t understand how this would even make this list.
For fuck sake! Listened to it Thought I would love it Read about it Wank
It's a fun idea - I guess? But so self-indulgent and musically a hard listen, I don't think this album deserves a space on this list.
Unlistenable.
No thanks
There's a lot of good music out there to discover. I ain't got time to finish this.
Boring as hell
This sounds like what it is, a soundtrack for a film that doesn't exist. Some nice bits but fairly pointless
Okay so film scores are excluded from this list but if the film score is for a movie that doesn't exist - it's allowed? What the fuck kind of rule is that? Why are we being denied the likes of John Williams, Ennio Morricone, and Hans Zimmer but I have to listen to this bullshit? Bad rule, bad exception, bad album.
Thank fuck this movie doesn't exist
I cannot comment on how its quality as a film soundtrack would be, as I'm not an aficionado on a medium, but I know that as music to listen to, this stinks. It starts out harmless enough, with a mix of creepy but nevertheless intriguing ambient tracks and stereotypical film noir jazz that feels a touch outdated due to the late 80s production. However, once you get to the halfway point or so, it becomes just noise for the sake of being noise, with a lot of industrial sounding guitars to muddle the mix and make my ears bleed. Not helping is that there is very little going on beside these noises, as it lacks texture, or even some solid samples to keep things driving. It just gets lost in being shocking, as if it were to be paired with a scene meant to be overwhelming to the senses, but once you strip away those scenes that never existed, and just view this as music, it completely and utterly gets on my nerves. Once we finally return to something more musical on the closing track, even that bugs me with its macho brass and complete lack of intrigue other than just being loud. There's no emotion behind it, just a volume that bugs the Hell out of me, and I was sick of it nearly an hour after it started. It has moments that possibly could be appreciated, but it had exhausted any intrigue by the end of it all.
Truly terrible as a selection for this list.
I'm sure this is great for somebody but it ain't me
Yea, there was nothing enjoyable about this. What the heck was this? Don't really care.....
Not sure I understand the point of this one. Interesting concept I guess.
I like instrumental, moody, cinematic music. Soundtrack-y. I listen to this stuff. Which is a problem for this album, because any- and everything it makes me think of is worlds better than this. Its only saving grace is how I wouldn't have guessed that it's from 198– oh, there's the industrial synth drum, nevermind. I also feel like pointing out that 'music for an imaginary movie' is not novel or clever - especially when you're putting it together as a literal job application in the movie industry. What is this doing here? Corny ass nonsense.
Sounded like he soundtrack for a horror movie.
im sure its good but i couldnt get through it
Terrible
Hmm, okay, aber was soll das sein?
What a waste of time
Just because an album is a neat idea doesn't mean I want to listen to it.
2/10 This is bad, wild that it is near a top 1000 list. Nether artist nor album are significant If you’re making a soundtrack for an imaginary film, you’ve got to get across the concept clearly. This doesn’t, unless the film is supposed to be a made-for-tv noir pastiche with some sub-bond action sequences Musically this sounds amateur, clearly bound by the keyboards and synthesisers of the time. 5 or so years later and this could have turned into a decent trip hop or early Warp album A couple of flashes of decent music but, jeez, bad Best: Intensive Care
This is not fun, interesting, or "colourful". It feels like a demo tape for an aspiring composer right out of college.
Sounds like a Year 7 Music Tech project, something that would have been created when we had to add audio to a Wallace and Gromit video clip. Thank god the "film" that this album is the soundtrack to doesn't exist. ⭐️
What is the point in making a film soundtrack when no film exists? Comple and utter waste of everyone's time. Thank the Lord ( which I don't believe exists) that we have now had both of Barry's terrible albums.
I liked Oedipus Schmoedipus somewhat but this was just dull. It takes a lot to make a film score interesting in itself (shout out Miles Davis) and this was a non existent one so Adamson had no excuse but it just wasn’t there for me. I’m sure there are people who have got Barry Adamson and Bryan Adams mixed up, and the thought of people listening to this and expecting something like Summer of ‘69 is somewhat amusing. I just wish I could say the same about this album.
I get the point, and think the art is neat but this one isn’t for me. Cool album, but not essential?
0* Dog shit
What even was that... By far the worst album yet. Most of this sounded like they threw a dozen toddlers into a recording studio to just randomly hit anything around the room. Any semblance of an organized sound was ruined within 30 seconds with the addition of some random noise... 0/5 Reading the summary says it was intended to be the background music for a crime film, which was never made after I assume they heard the soundtrack and shut it all down.
Serial killer shit
Dreadful, wish I didn’t listen to it
This is awful.
Moss Side must suck to live in.
Really? WTH. Not even a good recording for what it is, which is utter noise and garbage. One star at best...
I started listening to this while I was making coffee and I thought my oven was broken until the screaming started. I was relieved that my oven wasn't making that noise, but wtf? Some parts of it were good, but I'm not going to sit down and listen to this. 1.
like a horror movie soundtrack
Is this a soundtrack to something? Cannot fathom why it is on this list
I don’t get it. Sounded like city noise background music for an early 60s crime drama. Not for me.
Creepy
I did not like this.
14/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Daphuq? Is this a joke? Debut album, no less? "I want to put myself out there. Oh, I know! Concept album! Soundtrack for a movie that was never made! That's the ticket!" Some moments didn't entirely suck, so still better than U2, but c'mon, man. Nobody needs to hear this before they die, unless it's their punishment.
well, there goes another 1 on the list. Just as the other record by this guy
This made way more sense when I read the context on Wikipedia that it was a soundtrack for a film that doesn’t exist. I hope this film never gets made.
I did not enjoy any part of this.
‘Soundtrack to a nonexistent movie’ sounds like it could have been a load of pretentious crap. Thankfully, this is not too pretentious. It is crap though.
Is it over yet?
Sheit
The first couple of songs were alright but I don't think this album has any right being on this list at all. It feels as if I need to be watching some sort of noir film to appreciate it more.
Just a strange pick for a list of albums you "have" to listen to. Son of the tracks were listenable, but this album is filled with weird music with background chatter and other noises. 1/5 Won't listen again
OK, i handn't heard of this guy or his album before... and now that I've listened to it, i understand why I had never heard of it. So Ok, it's supposed to be a conceptual experimental album based on a soundtrack to a film that doesn't exist... but it still did my tits in with all the wandering introduction of noises and this kinda industrial machinery thumping... nah... its for the birds this one. Yet another album that I've no idea why I had to listen to this? I like to enjoy my music, not disect it into critical review about genius composition that just sounds crap.

Is it porn music? Is it a moody 80’s thriller soundtrack. Fuck knows.
First off this isn't a rock album it's a free style jazz album and my God is it boring
Seems like it was fun for the artist, but I wouldve been perfectly okay dying without listening through this album
fine? a little too distracting to have on the side, a little too atmospheric for active listening
#30. How did this make the cut? I wish some pretentious know-it-all had gatekept me away from this. 1/5: terrible
Painful, pretentious, art school crap.
What the hell is this nonsense? It's a fake soundtrack? That's not really that cool of a concept. Maybe if the songs were better or painted a picture of an actual movie it would be. That's the orst problem though: none of this is enjoyable. Get out of this list.
Shit. Absolute garbage. Waste of time and energy to listen to. Just a random collection of noise and mess. Another example of why 0 stars should be an option.
Sounds like listening to a movie (without watching). Might be a good concept album but it’s a weird and unpleasant experience.
Not good.I have no idea what’s the point of this album.Nothings a real cohesive sound.Or a real song. It’s just bad
Soundtrack to a movie i haven't seen? Wow, an amazing experience
It was a bad day to have an album like this and listen with the kids. Was not received well...
Yikes
I just don’t get it. You can’t even argue the song writing elevates poor music because there are no lyrics. The music is fine but nothing special and downright weird at times. If I want to listen to a soundtrack, I’ll just listen to one.
No quiero escuchar soundtrack ambiental
weird as fuck
No voy a escuchar esto.
Maybe there aren't actually 1001 records worth hearing before I die...
The premises is its an album about a fictional crime that happened. The reality is its lots of obnoxious noises, punctuated by the occasional scream. It's really uncomfortable to listen too even though it's all instrumental and I've no clue who it's made for.
I can't even get high enough to make this interesting.
I really wouldn't recommend listening to this album while drunk in bed. The vibes are just clashing
Musically not horrible. Concept is a bit interesting, but you could make the argument that a lot of albums could be film scores. Overall, not a significant or meaningful enough album to warrant my time.
No. Just no. Why the random insertion of background noise mimicking an audience? Why the ruin of a perfectly-good Alfred Hitchcock theme with off-rhythm feedback noise? Why ANOTHER concept album for a fake crime movie from this guy? But more importantly, why is this considered influential, good, or noteworthy? I exercised every bit of my self-restraint to not fast-forward through the entire album. I want to give zero stars.
I’m sorry, wonderfully named album, but this is a haunted house sounds compilation you get in a Count Chocula box.
More token instrumental bollocks. No thanks
What is this first song? Really weird... Is this music? This is video game music.
Garbage music
Film-muziek, interessant idee, maar uiteindelijk kut. 1.5
DNF. I've never felt so much stress listening to music.
I admire his creativity and the idea to make a concept album/movie soundtrack. But I can not keep up with the story and it starts to bore me. Music is great to sleep on, but that’s not why I am on this website rating albums.
This was so boring and awful
A soundtrack for a movie that doesn't exist, but if it did, it would be bad. Is the novelty the reason why this album was included? Because I'll be honest, it's not doing it for me. Movie soundtracks work when you go back and listen to them because you have something visual in your memory to associate the music with. It plays on the emotions you felt watching the movie. Here you don't get that, and it just doesn't work.
Just noises, dont get these
Reminded me of a school music class project, an interesting idea perhaps but not enough to justify an album. Overall it was a bit tedious and self indulgent.
Instrumental??
No thanks
O.5
What are we doing here? Is this music? Is this the history of the vinyl record?
It was hot garbage.
Absolutely pointless
Moss Side Story is a sountrack with a film to connect to. It's what it is, there's nothing really that stands out. 1/5 because it's boring without that context.
i don't understand why this album is on this list
the fuck was this? some weird ambient album. i hated it.
Making music for a movie that doesn’t exist is like sex without a partner: it’s fine but ultimately joyless… …and don’t be passing off an *actual*soundtrack track by covering Elmer Bernstein’s magisterial The Man With The Golden Arm theme. Point docked.
I can see and appreciate the concept, I just don't have any desire to listen to it.
Note taste
Nonsense.
No actual songs on it, only a variete of soundscapes. I do not get it. Would perhaps had worked well as a movie soundtrack, but then there is not a movie..
Pretty odd album. Basically just instrumentals and ambiance type music. Never really felt worthwhile or enjoyable. 2.0/10
First song is just noise. Weird album, not very musical.
Nous avons ici malheureusement affaire à un hors-sujet total : ce film policier d'entrée de gamme n'a en aucun cas sa place dans la liste des 1001.
Pfoe
Weird!
03/12/2022 Not for me. At all.
What is this? - I don’t even feel like it is worth the research..
Tried it twice. Worse the second time. A movie score for an imaginary movie seems interesting in theory, but in practice? Nonsensical. Moreover, "themes" means something. Listening to Shiffrin's "Bullit", you'll hear a melody repeated throughout the score - it's the THEME. It's the musical thread we follow from scene-to-scene. In Moss Side Story, there is no theme and worse, there's no context. In "Bullit", you know what "Music to Interrogate By" is referring to. In "Moss Side", it's just random pieces poorly welded together. I listened to it twice, on consecutive days. Didn't enjoy, at all.
What an insanely stupid idea. Is there seriously anyone out there who actively listens to this? I can't imagine willingly devoting an hour of your life listening to a soundtrack to a movie that does not exist. Waste of time, space and energy. The most baffling addition to this list so far. The only good song is "The Man With The Golden Arm" and it's just a bonus cover.
When I first looked at what this album was about, I was initially skeptical. I mean, a man holding an umbrella with the words, "In a black and white world murder brings a touch of colour..." a) who would write that on an umbrella and b) who spells color like that. It's still color without u. And as Sinead says, nothing compares to u. Except v. It's awfully close to u. Turns out I was right about my initial skepticism. If I recorded an "album" that was the sound of every point that Rafa Nadal has played, it would be truly inventive. But does it deserve to be listened to? I would say "yes", because whoever voted for this list of 1001 albums that you should listen to before you die might be thinking the same thing. I would call the first song, "Losing builds the man"... then work my way through "Clay court king", etc. etc. It would be genius. Not like all the rambling in this review. Or the rambling of this album.
Soundtracks aren't my thing. Interesting concept, but that's where my enjoyment for this project ends.
No. I get it's a fake soundtrack and it's moody, but really!?
What the hell is this?
It's just a fake film score. I'm sure it would fit a film very well, but why must we hear it without the pictures? Who curated this list?
What is this? Why is this? It's so confusing and so expansive across music styles. It sounds like video game soundtrack music sometimes
As a movie soundtrack, pretty cool. As an hour long album, ehhh The Swinging Detective was pretty dope, however
Scary. Very scary
Dumb
Pues si, parece una banda sonora. Pero lo veo a años luz de ser un imprescindible. Mas bien es un experimento o incluso un disco de piloto automático
“Score for a made up movie” 0/10
Con una radio vieja y unas latas vacías yo podría hacer mejor música
Very weird - listened while trying to finish up ERRS requests and it feels hectic. I do think it'd be a good as a film soundtrack as intended, and it's an interesting concept, but not my cup of tea.
A mess
a soundtrack to a nonexistant movie.. PASS
