Bit boring, unremarkable
(13 songs, 58 mins)
Pas convaincu, il y a eu de la meilleure house depuis, quelques sonorités intéressantes mais mal exploité
Wondered if this was some sort of influential album but then found out it was released in 1999. Not too sure why it's considered an essential album when in this context it's doing stuff later and not quite as well as similar artists. There were bits I quite liked here and there but I don't like when they are arranged without any real build up, almost like a pop song. You have a versey bit and a chorusy bit and there's no real sense of the music developing, you more feel like you're going round in circles until it ends. Drums were a bit too dynamic and over the top too. Not great.
Oh my god. This one was obnoxious, that's like the best word I can use to describe this. The production was too loud, it felt like the music was trying to attack me. The vocals were way too up front and the repetitions were way too distracting and straight up annoying. The sounds used in these tracks also just do not sound good. It's grating, and dares me to turn it off at any moment. There were two tracks that I actually ended up really liking and those were "Dreamin'" and "Jacques". I could actually see myself vibing to those ones when in the mood. Seriously though, this album isn't it. I enjoy EDM and House music well enough, but this one was a complete misstep.
Did not know artist. Don’t love genre, but a good record for that.
ok
1/3. Enjoyed the few minutes I listened to, but half the tracks aren't on Spotify and I can't be bothered to search YouTube for literal club music on this fine Sunday.
Fav-
Never heard of album or group. First song is cool, well produced. Didn’t really need any vocals, they’re just OK. It definitely makes you want to dance. Really cool bass line on lose control. Very dancy again which I assume will be the theme through out. Trumpet is really cool too. Not a a fan of soft machine. Choppy and bullshit lyrics. Very Y2K. Hate the lyrics on hyponotise but I like the beat/production a lot. Same deal with hey you what’s that sound. Sounds like a kidz bop song lyrics wise, sick beat. Take a little time is very 80s. Definitely still dancy but different vibes from the rest. I hate disco II disco. Something abt that sound gives me a headache. Don’t like the cowbell. Had to skip it doesn’t worn through headphones. Brothers is a lot more palatable. Can’t believe how much disco turns me off of this album. It’s like when you go to hipotle and halfway through you realize there’s a whole bay leaf in your bowl. Doesn’t completely ruin it, but it immediately disqualifies it from being a good bowl. Mdc verendi is pretty good. Classic dance song I’d say. Same thing with Jacques. I like them a lot more when there’s not a lot of vocals. The production is really good. About funk is really cool and I love the ending into the beginning of sometimes. Tho is the best one with lyrics for sure. Damaged people is good not great too long. Good production, ok vocals. Overall that’s the theme of the album. It was just ok. 2.1 stars.
2.5 - Meh
Daft Punk did this infinitely better two years earlier with homework. Largely very uninteresting and repetitive electronic music, and the track From Disco To Disco was so laughably bad it almost knocked this down to a 1 star. There are a couple tracks on here I enjoyed enough to raise it up a step, but cannot see myself going back to this one Fav Track: 8 - Brothers Best Three Track Run: 8, 9, 10
Well, I mean I guess I’ve heard it now. (ntm.)
I was about to give this a 1 but some of the beats were good but lyrics were way to repetitive for me.
The Daft Punk we have at home
Well produced electronic dance music that I'm sure sounds good in a club, but as an album listening experience there's not much to engage with. Sounds cool(ish) but pretty mind-numbing after ten minutes or so.
Have never heard of this artist, nor did I recognize any songs by them. I noticed Spotify had a bunch of these songs greyed out (not playable). Don't know what's going on there. There are 9 songs available - so my evaluation will be related to those 9 songs only. Thoughts as it's playing... At times, reminds me of LCD Soundsystem and Chemical Brothers - both of whom I like. But not all of the time. "Dreamin'"- didn't really like this one. Cheesy 80s synth sound doesn't grab me. "Music makes you lose control" - good groove. Has words but it's just repetitive/hypnotic. "Soft Machine" is cool "Hypnotise" - don't these Brits know this should be spelled with a "z"? too repetitive, not enough variety Surprised to hear him pulling a line from "For What It's Worth" by Crosby, Stills, Nash on the "(Hey You) What's That Sound?" song. I shouldn't be surprised since it's the song title - but when I first listened I wasn't looking at the song titles. "Sometimes" gives me Erasure or Pet Shop Boys vibes (I think, I haven't heard them forever) - don't really like this style. "Damaged People" has a cool vibe. I ended up liking 4 out of the 9 songs available to me. The ones I like could be good songs for my High Energy playlist for long bike rides. Liked songs on Spotify: 4/9 (this is the 9 that are available on Spotify - there are 4 others that are blanked out) Rating: 2/5
At times skippable, other times bearable.
Didn’t mind it but nothing really stood out for me
2.5 Look, I’ve said almost all I can say about the endless parade of 90s European electronica that I can. This is actually one of the better ones if I’m being honest. More fun, more melodic, shorter than most. I did have the thought - would love to see how many solo black artists there are on this list and then compare that to how many forgotten electronica albums are on this list, especially because sooooo many of the samples from these albums are lifted wholesale from the work of black musicians. Just grab their hook, throw loud bass and drums behind it, loop it for five minutes, presto. I think it’s an interesting question!
If you're ever in charge of making an ad for acne cream or cheap sneakers, consider some of these tracks. Otherwise, please don't consider this album at all.
Saw the album cover this morning and immediately knew I wasn't going to like this. I just can't get behind techno/club music. The song with Shannon was actually decent, though. I just can't imagine anyone sitting down to listen to this for enjoyment outside of a shitty night club.
In the category of "I probably wouldn't turn it off" but it didn't strike me as memorable.
Why pretend to be French if you aren’t going to try even a little bit to make your music good?
Nicht so ganz meins aber bestimmt wegweisend für die Anfänge des EDM
Very repetitive; lyrics from other songs but not exactly samples...
++: Music Makes You Lose Control, Take a Little Time, Jaques You Body (Make Me Sweat), Damaged People +: Dreamin', Soft Machine, Hypnotise, From: Disco to: Disco, Brothers +-: (Hey You) What's That Sound?, About Funk, Sometimes 5,2/10
So fine
Second album that I haven't heard before. Not a super exciting discovery The dated synthy sound isn't working for me here. I don't hate the beat and groove of it, but it's pretty boring. It has a kind of lo-fi quality that I love in rock music, but I generally want my electronic music more polished. A few songs give a hint of early Nine Inch Nails, but don't get there in quality or emotion. They don't sound as good and this is 10 years after NIN's first album. [Just noticed that this came out in 1999, I would have guessed '89, deliberate? Part of the late 90's Euro aesthetic?] Lot of Daft Punk too, just way worse. Disco II Disco is a strange song, makes me feel like I'm losing an arcade game over and over again. The more songs I listen to the less I like this. Won't be coming back to it. Wouldn't have included on the list. I Kind of liked the last song, drags it up to barely 2 Stars
I thought for the most part that this album was fine, pretty average. If you’re listening to it while doing anything else besides dancing then it just kind of blends into the background because it’s very repetitive. I liked the first half of songs but by the second half the beats/lyrics got really grating. Disco II Disco and About Funk were particularly annoying. I’d give this album a 2.5 but I can’t give half points so I’ll round down to 2.
Parts of this I enjoyed and other parts I did not.
Didn't dislike this as much as I thought when seeing the genre BUT it got very repetitive halfway through and the second half of the album was pretty poor. First half saves it from being a 1, quite enjoyed it up until Disco to Disco.
Wasn’t in love with it. Didn’t finish the whole thing. It’s cool to hear early electronic music though!
Les Rythmes Digitales – Darkdancer Darkdancer is a vibrant, high-energy homage to 80s synth-pop that succeeds more as a "mood" than a complex piece of artistry. While it brings a welcome sense of fun and upbeat energy to the listening experience, it suffers from the "unidimensional" trap common in electronic music. The production is undeniably infectious, yet the reliance on repetitive loops and simplistic lyrical structures prevents it from reaching the same emotional or technical depths as more layered projects. It is a sonically pleasant "vibe" that excels in a social or high-energy setting, but as a standalone album, it lacks the artistic evolution needed to move beyond its dance-floor roots.
2/5
A couple good tracks, super dated
I unfortunately just don’t get the appeal of this type of music outside of a club or party.
Not particularly memorable and not particularly good. A few good beats, but nothing to write home about. There’s much better electronica on this list.
Based on what was available
a lot of these beats are pretty sick! unfortunately the end result is offensively stupid
Nope
Way too long. Some bops, but if it was half the length I'd give it a 3
Vippet mellom 2 og 3 ganske lenge.. Runder ned.
Joo ei
Ei tälläkään kuuhun mennä ⭐️⭐️
So this started out okay and it was some good study music but it just went on and on to the point it got a bit mindless.
I'm sure that somewhere out there, this is someone's favorite album of all time. I wonder what that person's life is like. It makes me sad to think of all the albums and artists that could have been included in place of this one. Generic 90s electronic dance is not a genre that I feel needs more than one record on this list. Oddly, a couple of the songs with vocals, the vocals are great will round up for that I suppose. 1.5/5
It's my job to repetitive. My job. My job. Repetitiveness is my job. -Bart Simpson
2.5? i like dance music but this was kinda boring and hard to get through at times
Ne...
Started great and quickly went to shit. Way too long and repetitive.
I'd never heard of Les Rythmes Digitales before this, and until I read the Wikipedia bio, I had some hopes for a francophone band for a change! Anyway, I've dutifully played this through, and probably won't revisit it any time soon. It's a very good example of why a heavy beat in electronica doesn't necessarily make for strong dance music: the entire album seems remarkably unengaging. Just not very good in my opinion.
Repetitive past the point of my sanity, so get off my goddamn lawn. Strangely listenable while finding it terrible, 2 Star
Like a wannabe Daft Punk
There are types of electronica I like, some I love, and some that just kind of annoy me. Unfortunately, this seems to fall closest to the latter category. Favorite: Sometimes - (I just read the current highest rated review of this album, which is very touching. It doesn’t change my opinion of the album, of course, but one of the things I find endearing about this project is that - somehow - any given album will have someone who loves it or was moved by it. It makes me happy to know that this album, which I found irritating and repetitive, held meaning for someone else.) 2.5
Ehh, not my cuppa tea. 4/10 Favourite track: N/A
These electronic albums are such a slog
meh
After what felt like an eternity it turns out I had barely listened to five songs. It's quite repetitive, but then this genre is repetitive, it's part of both its ethos and its charm, and i guess its weakness too. Want to dance to funky 90's electronic music? then this is for you. You'll have to be on its wavelength if you want it to leave a good impression. Now that I think about it, it's pretty good to listen in the background whenever you're doing a monotonous or unchanging chores. This is my last album, my 1001 record. I know there are a lot more, but this is still a milestone.
Nogle numre var lidt festlige, men hang ikke ved.
Why is this here? This album feels like a bunch of people playing with studio tricks to see what they sound like, and turning 80s ideas into late 90s dance music. The first two songs are...dreadful. We finally get some rhythmic variety but really all but one song ("Sometimes") are cut-and-paste jobs repeated for a few minutes. Apparently in 2015 this was ranked 97th on a list of top 100 dance albums of all time. Even THAT shouldn't be enough to get onto this 1001 albums list. It's not good, it's not groundbreaking, it's not even a good representation of the genre. I save one star ratings for albums that are really failures. It's not this band's fault they were unreasonably elevated to this list, and outside the context of this list I can see finding the album a bit of highly dated fun. But honestly this was a crap listen.
Not the worst electropop or whatever, but thats not a high bar for me.
Definitely a poor decision to listen to this sitting down. It's a casual club dancing kind of album. It also uses a good chunk of samples, but unlike a lot of the "older" club dancing albums, the samples really don't overstay their welcome, which is a breath of fresh air in this genre. I feel like in a club setting, it could potentially even be a 4. But at my desk, I'm giving it a 2/5.

Soft Machine was cool, Damaged People wasn't terrible, but the rest of this album is just annoying, like the majority of electronic music in general. 2/5
I'm always chuffed when an album I know absolutely nothing about pops up on this list, especially if it's in a genre I enjoy. I found "Darkdancer" to be competently put together and performed, but overall I found it somewhat soulless, evoking little to no emotional reaction in me whilst listening. The second track, "Music Makes You Lose Control", is a prime example, it certainly didn't convey that feeling at all. Instead, I just sipped my coffee and dunked my Bourbon biscuit, it was more "Music Makes You Want To Act Responsibly". "Hypnotise", "(Hey You) What's That Sound?", "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)" and "Sometimes" were okay/decent tracks, mind you. My son reminded me that "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)" was used in the Citroen C4 car advertisement in 2004. This album is simply not for me, but I did find it difficult to rate. I rated it at (2/5), but for some tracks, it was a fine line between a 2-star rating and a 3-star rating. I can understand why some people might really like it and give it a higher rating, but overall, "Darkdancer" lacked a clear identity or theme; for me it comes across like a collection of tracks on a compilation album, but without any clear stand-out tracks. 1 "Dreamin'" (2/5) 2 "Music Makes You Lose Control" (2/5) 3 "Soft Machine" (featuring Thomas Ribeiro) (2/5) 4 "Hypnotise" (3/5) 5 "(Hey You) What's That Sound?" (3/5) 6 "Take a Little Time" (featuring Shannon) (2/5) 7 "From: Disco to: Disco" (2/5) 8 "Brothers" (2/5) 9 "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)" (3/5) 10 "About Funk" (2/5) 11 "Sometimes" (featuring Nik Kershaw) (3/5) 12 "Damaged People" (featuring Thomas Ribeiro) (2/5) Total - 28 Average - 2.33 163/1001 91/163 albums reviewed were new to me.
Not my genre. I heard hints of talent I think
Not bad for background listening. Not noteworthy.
I’m neither mad nor impressed. Was this guy blazing new trails or something? Not certain what makes him any more or less special than your average fuckboi DJ who gets a set at Coachella
I could go for 1 or 2 of these songs and give it a 3 but an hour of this! That's way too much!
The electronic music I like tends to have a variety of instruments and textures. This is not that, it is very repetitive and unremarkable.
Pretty Descent
There were a few fun tracks on here but most of it reminded me of an 8 bit soundtrack to a bad Konami game.
They say don't judge a book by its cover but this album art sums up this album. I wanted to hate this... and I did. Very cheesy, clumsy, repetitive.
When I refreshed my 1001AG page this morning (Sunday, Nov 2nd), I saw the cover of this and - knowing absolutely nothing else - said to my partner 'Oh great, looks like I get to listen to some turn-of-the-millenium techno wanker today', and that's exactly what I did with the extra hour daylight savings gave me today. There's not a lot more for me to say about this one. If you like repetitive dance music, this is for you. It's also fun that his watch says 12:14 which is 2x 6:7. An easteregg 26 years in the making.
Just not something I needed to hear before death. Fine.
yuck
Nah man, I’m good.
I tried to like this. I listened to it almost 3 times through, but it largely feels like an 80s rehash with some Daft Punk ripoff that we didn't need. 1. "Dreamin" - not bad, but not dying to play this again. 2. "Music Makes You Lose Control" - one of the better tracks 3. "Soft Machine" - feels like mid 90s rock meets EDM, like if Filter made a dance album 4. "Hypnotise" - I can def see the influence on what came later. Heavy 80s throwback but with a modern twist. One of the better tracks in some ways, though also kind of annoying. 5. "(Hey You) What's That Sound?" 6. "Take a Little Time" - Am I listening to a Madonna album? Not that I don't like it. 7. "From: Disco to: Disco" - If this is an ode to how much he hates disco, kudos. Most annoying track so far by a mile. I'd almost remove a star for this track alone. There's a repetitive whining wah sound that feels like it speaks for my soul being forced to listen to this all the way through. 8. "Brothers" - not sure we needed this 80s rehash. 9. MDC Vendredi - 9. "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)" - mediocre Daft Punk impersonation. 10. "About Funk" - no. 11. "Sometimes" - Also no. 12. "Damaged People"
Today I learned that I myself have DJ'd Stuart Price. Said with dripping sarcasm, naturally, but every so often in my youth I'd cut a mixtape CD, and in the mid aughts I actually beatmatched a few of them. Not terribly well, but to my credit I think I counted the BPM by hand and then used percentages to slow down the tracks using a basic sound editor. The Toast app was a faithful friend. The best one was when I lived in Australia and had max free time; it was called "Australia: The Other White Meat". I wedged Four to the Floor (Thin White Duke remix — aka Rhythmes Digitales) between Run Eyed Blues by Ben Harper and a track by Telefon Tel Aviv. Questionable pacing, but a pretty good transition. That was a good remix. I think it was more popular than the original. Wikipedia tells me that Price, as Duke, did a bunch of popular remixes. So I think of this one as formative for Price. Ev and I were both speculating that it was influential; again Wiki says that it had some effect on the nascent millennial electro scene. I was hoping that it was created before Daft Punk's Homework — French name and all — but no, it came two years later. Huh. Most of it is borderline annoying; I had to tab over a few times to see how much was left in a track. So I’m glad that he grew into a good career producer, but I wasn’t thrilled to listen to the highshool essay.
Perfectly enjoyable for what it is, but it’s pretty generic at best. It sounds exactly like lots of other records released 1998/9. I played the whole thing but pretty much forgot it was on.
Bog standard euro leaning electro-pop. I've got the feeling that he gave himself a French moniker here so he could get swept up with some of the love for Daft Punk et al. The songs have bits that are interesting and fun but it's never for a whole song. Best Tracks: (Hey You) What's That Sound?; Jacques You Body (Make Me Sweat); Sometimes
This is one of those albums that starts off ok, and just keeps getting worse and worse track by track. And despite the fact I'm not a fan of the repetitivness electronica, I found the actual songs even worse than the dance floor fodder. But the most annoying part was the freakin' duck keyboard sound on Disco II Disco. It sounded like daddy getting strangled. Itvs enough to make Rick Dees jealous. I did kinda like the closer "Damaged People" I think it was the darker tone and words. (there really wasn't enough words to call them lyrics). But over all this album was more of a chore to listen to than a must hear. (3.75) ★½
Fugly, flimsy, faux-French House flopaganza from Les Rhythmes Digitales… or Didgey-tal Riddems Yeh Bruv! as this dance music project from DJ Alex Price should be called. A most flippant inclusion for the 1001 list. First track Dreamin is OK enough and might sound good as background for a quick fire menu on a FIFA 2000 game but that’s about as good as the music gets. What follows is very plastic, basic, ultra-repetitive, mind-numbing loops with (Hey You) What’s That Sound being the absolute pits. It’s the kind of thing that makes Fatboy Slim sound like Stravinsky - Fatboy Slim of course having quite a lot of character in his brand of repetitive beats whereas this is about as generic, Duplo-bricked and slapped together as dance music can get. If it weren’t for the one and only Nik Kershaw gracing his presence towards the end then this would be a total 1. Very lucky for Mr Digital Rhythms Yeah Bruv!
Why is this a must hear? WHY?
Funky, not my normal style of music. Guitars are hypnotic and really keep you in The synths are nice, I like the choppy drums. However a lot of the songs sort of land flat for me. It feels like an album that is influential and important but also doesn’t really need to be remembered by me Just realized I was listening to like a half version of the album? Had to restart halfway Hmm idk something just isn’t connecting. I didn’t turn it off but definitely felt like a slog near the end. Damaged people did end up being saved to my likes. 4/10
No real standouts besides the last track. Very of its time.
To the day I die I will likely never understand how techno became a thing, unless it's the drugs that I'm missing and that makes the repetition a desirable thing since you're not really able to focus on anything anyway. It was fine for techno, but that's like saying a kick in the shin is fine compared to a kick in the balls.
Timu Daft Punk.
un álbum bastante inmaduro como para estar incluido en esta lista a mi parecer. Los beats son demasiado simples y repetitivos, suenan a lo peor de la época. Es una música poco elaborada que hasta para bailar es aburrida.
I can hear what it influenced but the added lyrics kinda ruined it
Would probably love this at a rave in 1996. 2/5
Another mix of dross and quality; 2.5 stars
Pretty generic and monotonous. Another bland electronica album. 2/5 Won’t listen again
Too upbeat for my morning but lots of bangers in there
Everything here is fine, but nothing here is impressing or worth revisiting. It sounds like a compilation album for teen comedy series music. I can't say I really disliked anything here outside of maybe 1 or 2 songs, but the entire thing is just so non-noteworthy. The album cover sure is some late 90's goodness though.
I thought this might be a surprise 3 star. Started out ok. Got worse and annoying the more I listened to it.
Some of the songs sound alright in terms of the music but the lyrics themselves are extremely repetitive. The song called Sometimes sounds pretty nice.
Dnf. I'm sorry, this one is just excessively long (that's what she said). It started off as a one star, as my brain didn't even really parse it as music, but a few tracks later on were more enjoyable. Not something I'm going to seek out again, though.
Cool samples. Boring execution.
EDM is either growing on me, or the last couple I've gotten has been better than every other one I've listened to. With the description and cover art I went into this album just knowing it was going to be a 1 and not finishing the album....... I liked most of this album. I don't see another scenario where I'd listen to it, but wasn't a bad listen. 2/5.
Another album I have almost no opinion on, and with a two-sentence summary on this site, it looks like I am not the only one. When Jacques Your Body came on I immediately recognised it, it's another of those tracks which was so widely used as a bedding track when it came out. But overall I had no reaction other than that. Also the album art looks like an early 2000s secondary school IT textbook.
Horrible. 1.5/5
its electronic with a a bit of pop music. I found it pretty boring and not even enjoyable as background music. Nothing creative really and I cannot see why this is on the list. I wouldn't even recognise a song straight after listening to it it is so generic. 2 stars
The sound was great, some catchy parts with nice vibes, however, it was beyond repetitive and got aggressively annoying very quickly. I skipped through every song not even halfway through.
Sort of enjoyed a few of the early tracks but then it started to become far too repetitive for me. A couple of the songs I found difficult to listen to all the way through. Found some fun to dance to, but wouldn’t listen to the album again. Fav song: Music Makes You Lose Control Least fav: From: Disco To: Disco
The list of songs this guy has produced is kind of insane and he's got three Grammy awards! This album doesn't reflect that at all. Thought there were a few pretty fun songs, but it was mostly just repetitive annoyance. Favourite song: Music Makes You Lose Control Least: Disco To: Disco
Apparently this has been 'credited it for launching much of the electro-pop vogue of the 2000s'. I found it pretty inoffensive but uninteresting. Feels like a pick that was made because he didn't have enough electronic music in the 1001 and this came up in a Google search. Doesn't feel essential at all, but then I suppose it's not really my thing.
fluctuates between decent and bad
First time listening the album. Québecois's quote : Écoutable en background quand tu chat sur MSN, mais sur une mixtape avec autre chose parce que c'est pas écoutable back à back. Translation : Listenable while chating on MSN, but only on a mixtape with something else because nobody could listen to this back to back.
Not for me.
Never heard of this group/artist. Was expecting more of a French influence based on the name. This didn't really do anything special for the electronica genre I felt. There were a few tracks that sampled/interpolated lyrics from other popular songs that just ended up sounding pretty weak. Much of this was just pretty...uninteresting. I've heard much better house/electronic music, especially around the time this was released. Wasn't totally unlistenable I guess.
I dunno, maybe this just isn't for me. I can imagine this being ok in the right setting but for just sitting and listening to it did nothing for me at all.
Some highs with lots of lows. Dreamin' has a cool melodic segment similar to Frankie Valli - Grease. Take A Little Time is so groovy it got me dancing. Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat) is perfect blend of scratchy, dark, and melodic. It's apparent that this album was ahead of it's time, but it doesn't do it for me as a whole.
This was okay for a listen, but I'm not sure why it is on the list of must-hear albums. Standout track: Soft machine
2.4 Made it halfway through before I had to start skipping tracks a minute or so in when it was clear what the "hook" was going to be on repeat for the next 5 minutes. Jesus that was a slog tbh. Sounds like something my brother would buy when he was 13 in an attempt to act cool to his mates. Cover is totally "I'm 13 and this is rad" energy. According to wiki this got listed in the top 99 albums to dance to. What the fuck. Who is dancing to this. How can you actually dance to this. Was that listed compiled based on school discos? Jesus wept I'd be straight out of the club if some of these tracks came on.
for every banger, there were at least two songs i nearly turned off
Dance music! First couple of songs were ok but them not many made me want to dance. Well done but found it underwhelming.
Electronic music. Not quite as enjoyable as some of the other ones I’ve heard. Kind of irritating at points to be honest. Also I’ve gotten like 5 electronic albums in a row and I’m a little tired of it.
meh 2/5
Het is niet slecht, maar ik kan hier ook echt zo niks mee
Electronic music
Meh. 2/5
Thought i was going to love this, I still like the singles, but it really is not nearly as good without those
Meh. I get the rhythm and electronica but it doesn't grab me. Maybe if there were no words...
The first track sounded like what I imagined I'd be pulling out of my first Casio keyboard, jamming along with the demo backing track - success couldn't be far behind, and was mine for the taking. Unfortunately, much like my dreams of being a professional keyboardist, this album lost steam almost immediately, and became an unlistenable mess of disappointment.

Not my thing, although "Take a little time" was one song that i picked.
--Dreamin'...at least the album cover isn't lying --Music Makes you lose control...I like this one. Repetitive but with a solid groove and sound --Soft Machine...more of a pop song than the earlier dance tracks. I feel it's making interesting choices but I don't really vibe with it. Tryhard lyrics --Hypnotise...an annoying and boring first minute before it devolves into generic club music --Hey You...I like it until the vocals come in. Too repetitive but that's what the genre often does --Take a Little Time...throwback to late 80s/early 90s dance pop. I dig it --Disco II Disco...First I hated it, then I laughed, now I'm grooving. Perhaps still too weird for repeat listens --Brothers...more generic club stuff --MDC Vendredi...Not interesting enough to be 6+ minutes long --Jacques Your Body...I'm mixed on this one. I like the bass groove. Vocals are throwing me off --About Funk...takes too long to get going and once it does it's just kind of okay --Sometimes...oddly schmaltzy compared to everything else. Not for me --Damaged People...why are the weak tracks also the longest? Reaction: Not a fan of this, but you could argue I wasn't really listening to it in its "correct" environment. If you're someone that's into EDM, however, I'm sure Darkdancer has something on it for you to enjoy.
Oh det er da fint nok hvis man gerne vil klippe sin hæk, eller andet hjernedødt arbejde, men jeg keder mig altså. Det virker ikke som om der er en pointe med det her dansable musik...
Second album. Faux French Electronica. Why is that a genre !? Ha. Not very innovative for 1999. Some of the tracks sound like New Order or the Eurythmics from ten of fifteen years before. Hypnotise for example. I prefer Daft Punk for this kind of thing. Is that a Ski Lo sample half way throug the album Haha! The album is well produced though.
Whilst this is a trendsetter for what was to come in the dance genre during the 2000s, as a whole i found the album falls into the trap where whilst a lot of the songs sound great individually, listening to the entire package drags by the end.
Yeah, not for me. too long.
Turn of the century Synth-Pop / Europop / Post-Disco / Electronica - insipid, nothing to write home about.
Found it quite annoying.
Boppy. If I throw a 90s ecstasy party I know where to go
This album should stay in the dark 🤮
yeah...not for me
Meh
This album sounds exactly like what you would expect it to by looking at the album cover. I don't particularly enjoy electronic music anyway, but this felt especially droning at times. It was the same thing over and over again for each song :( My favorite tracks were Music Makes You Lose Control and Hey Your What's That Sound.
Music Makes You Lose Control 1001 Albums Generator 44 (06/03/2025) I have a massive issue with the electronic album choices of this list so far. Electronic music is a genre that I am not very well versed in besides the basics like Daft Punk, Justice, Aphex Twin, and a bit of Boards Of Canada, so it is one of the things I was most excited to learn about through this list. However, so far I have gotten 1. Suba - Sao Paulo Confessions (boring) 2. Kraftwerk - Autobahn (not bad, but not amazing) 3. Nitin Sawhney - Beyond Skin (terrible) And now the newest addition to this shitty electronica agglomeration, Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales. Unfortunately, I knew from the moment that I saw the cover that this would not be the album to break the electronica curse that I seem to have found myself in. It might be the least cool album cover I've seen that is making an honest attempt at being cool. To be clear, this isn't as bad as Beyond Skin. Music Makes You Lose Control is fun and incorporates its titular sample in a catchy, memorable way. Soft Machine has a really strange syncopated beat that is initially hard to catch on to, but once you hear it, it's quite infectious. Hey You What's That Sound? is okay, with the highlight being the Buffalo Springfield interpolation that made the familiarity neurons in my brain start firing. Monkey happy. Mdc Vendredi and About Funk occupy a similar spot in my brain. Both songs overstay their welcome but they have some interesting aspects to them. The former has some ambient parts between the more standard dance stuff that are pretty cool as well as a good build up around the 3 minute mark and the latter settles into a great groove in its second half once it gets past its kind of annoying intro. The worst song on any album so far is the miserable Disco II Disco, which I saw described as sounding like someone strangling a duck. I would go to my local park and strangle ten ducks if it meant I never had to listen to this song again. My god, it is terrible. It's the first time in this challenge that I have actually skipped a song on second listen. Jacques Your Body Makes Me Sweat also has a really annoying vocal sample. Overall, the songs that I didn't explicitly mention range from bad to just below mediocre. Even the songs I mentioned as being highlights feature no reason for me to return to them. Why is this album almost an hour long? We will never know. Why is this album on the list? We will never know. 1.5/5, rounded down to a 1. Favs: Music Makes You Lose Control Mdc Vendredi About Funk Least Fav: Disco II Disco
This feels like if Fatboy Slim preferred an 80's style aesthetic. It's alright and has cool moments/samples but it's also a little cheesy/annoying at times.
Fairly typical dance-pop from the period, nothing particularly remarkable to distinguish it from countless acts doing the same thing. It tries to be fun but it sounds forced.
A man of few words, outdated sounds and no real clue.
Na
I don't believe anyone actually enjoys listening to this.
Not my style of dance music
hard to shake the feeling this would be better in a club in europe on drugs
interminable
Weird techno
Unusual techno vibe
Most of the digital rhytms we are served by these french act are repetitive and annoying. Some tracks even make me angry. Then again, we have Soft Machine, which is surprisingly rocking and good, and Hypnotise, which is almost catchy. These are in the minority, though.
Nothing against the people who like this type of music, but it’s just so one dimensional and uninteresting. Never again.
Fun synth-pop/dancefloor time capsule. Lots of late-90s tricks and tropes. If you really like Daft Punk or Air, then you might kinda like this. But it isn't as smart as Daft Punk or as introspective as Air. Thoroughly infected with that instantly insatiable British goofiness. Not really with listening to unless it's loud and you're on the dancefloor.
2.5/5
There's too much electronics on this list. I liked this better than Fatboy Slim, so that's that. 2.
Not my thing.
Another turn-off back to back
Started out interesting, ended interestingly, but a lot of duds. Stuart Price was born to Readingers holidaying in Paris and seemed to have quite the attachment to French culture after, hence the creation of a faux French dance album I guess. Best to stick to the producing and muscial direction, as he did.
1.9
Do I hate this? Surprisingly not. I don't like it either. I think my biggest issue with it being it could have been so much better. There is promise in many of the tracks but they all sound like demos, lyrically incomplete. Something to dance to? Perhaps. Something to listen to? Definitely not. 2/5
Basic stock electro beats and echoey processed vocals does not equal good.
Note: Only about half of this album is available on Spotify. Note the second: You don't need to go looking for the rest of it. This is quite literally "You've heard one song, you've heard them all." I guess this is fine if you're all mollied up in the club, but for the rest of the day...well...it's backgroundish and repetitive. I guess as a representative of the genre it's OK, but it's pretty mid all in all.
Some of it was catchy, but it was very repetitive. Not my style.
The cheesiness and length (under an hour) of this record are doing a lot of heavy lifting here. This isn't a good record. It's repetitive and boring. But it's better than most the electronic dreck on this list.
Faux French Electronica-- who knew?
Horrible album art part of me believes Ai will make better than that in a year. In this guy’s Spotify description he compares himself to daft punk… like he’s french and it’s electronic music but other than that… nah. Oh fuck this is Jacques Lu Cont like the guy who made them shitty killers remixes. And the guy is actually an English bloke with the name… stuart price. Well he was born in France but lived in Reading. Honestly he just gives me bit pretentious dick vibes. 2/5
Music Makes You Lose Control has a pretty good bass guitar and and guitar line. Otherwise very repetitive and annoying song. (Hey You) What's That Sound is a crappy remixed Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth. The "best" thing on this album isn't original. Sometimes feat Nik Kershaw is a decent pop song, not just electronic junk. Damaged People isn't horrible. It has a few features that keep it from a 1 star but it's mostly garbage.
From Disco to Disco is the most horrifically annoying song I've ever heard in my life. CIA blacksite torture type stuff. I can't tell if I absolutely love Damaged People or absolutely hate it. Bizarre album
This album is so good at finding a cool little nugget of sound then forcing it through the repeat-o-meter until it becomes a fully-fledged cheesy house bop. I want to defend it as I remember it from my youth but listening to it now reminds me that I also wanted to like it then but couldn't actually bring myself to listen to it that much. I'm pretty sure I borrowed but never bought it. I'm pleased to discover that LRD went on to carve out a fairly successful career as a producer. One go through this LP for old time's sake was more than enough though. An odd inclusion on the list, to be perfectly honest.
Forgettable but funky
Was expecting this to be interesting but it wasn't.
So boring
Some fun stuff
Forgettable music you can hear in the club. 'Music Makes you Lose Control' is the only track that made me perk up in recognition, and that's only because of a meme.
This grew on me as I listened but most of it wasn’t great. Take A Little Time was quite nice, had a bit of an 80s vibe about it. Unfortunately this album wasn’t much more than repetitive beats. Not sure why it’s here tbh.
Nothing special, seemed like an underwhelming inclusion and I usually like this genre of album
Old Techno. 2,4
You can hear the roots of modern EDM hear but boy does it sound dated. This record is from 1999 but it sounds like it could've been made a decade earlier. Much of the synth and electronic sounds in the record sound very dated as does the style and song structure as a whole. Odd choice.
I’m not a fan of this genre, so I heard nothing here to distinguish it from any other electronic music. In fact, all I could hear was a fairly obnoxious level of sameness.
An entire album of mediocre DJ beats to play under infinitely better songs.
Listening to Darkdancer is a lot like being stuck in heavy traffic—there are occasional moments where something catches your attention, but for the most part, it’s a repetitive, frustrating ride that just won’t end. The album leans hard into late-90s electro-funk and French house influences, but where artists like Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk make this style feel dynamic and fun, Darkdancer mostly feels like a mechanical loop of the same ideas over and over again. Tracks like Sometimes and Take a Little Time manage to stand out, offering at least a bit of melody and groove, but too much of the album feels like a relentless, monotonous beat with no real payoff. The production is crisp, and the retro-futuristic vibe has its appeal, but the sheer repetition makes it exhausting rather than exciting. The synths wobble, the basslines pulse, but everything stays in the same lane for far too long. It’s the kind of album that feels like it should be fun, but instead, it’s more of a headache-inducing chore. If you’re nostalgic for this era of dance music, there might be something here for you, but personally, I just wanted it to end.
TROTOS
A pesar de tener temas muy bien producidos siento que la mitad del disco es un pack de samples típicos de la época. Nota: 2.4
From the cover and the description in the book I was prepared for this album to be awful. Whilst that may have been true for the latter half of the album, I did quite enjoy some of the first few tracks.
Not a bad listen I suppose. I just don’t know how to evaluate this. What makes it special or unique? Feels like I could go into a genre mix in Spotify and have the same experience.
I didn’t mind this one too much, but I’m definitely with most of the other reviewers in that this was not deserving of the list. It’s most notable stat on Wikipedia is making #57 top UK albums once??? Come on…
This genre just isn't for me. I found a couple of tracks here more pleasant than what's on most other electronic albums, though. And it passed the headache test for me, which gives it a 2 star rather than a 1 star.
not in 10001
Vad fan är electronica? Alla försöker låta som Daft Punk en gång lät. Vart fan är den hårda elektroniska musiken?
This was an interesting album - reminded me of music that would be in a PS1 menu screen. I didn't hate it, but disliked more tracks than I liked. I had fun dancing to it with my kiddos.
Unremarkable faux-French Electronica, *especially* for 1999.
Long and blah. The fact that this is on the list but not Discovery by Daft Punk... daft.
Wanted to love this, but didn't - it's a bit too self-important for my taste. 2/5
2.4
My Spotify kept randomly cutting out while playing this album. Have to think it was just trying to save me from this load of shit
Pretty good dance music, typical early nineties rave - no doubt great if you're off your tits, but not much use to actually listen to.
2 - ground breaking, so glad I listened to this
It’s to dance music.
Not good at all. This whole "faux-french" bs is asinine - it gives the idea that this should sound something like Soulwax or Daft Punk, but really it just sounds like a shitty tribute to shitty 80s music. Mostly unremarkable, although disco II disco was completely enraging. But for only having one enraging song it gets 2 instead of 1
Okay funky dinky doink noises i hear you! I don't have a big opinion on this album it was just fine, definitely getting into that techno kinda groovy songs, there was no song that really made me go "ok this song kinda slaps" It was just ok for me
Cool electro stuff I suppose but just boring if you’re the average listener. Best used as background music. pp poopoo etc
Some alright tracks but mostly dated synth shit
Ok...? Look, maybe it's not for me. But I seemed to go back and forth between "this is a nothing burger" and "this is an ANNOYING nothing burger".
Everybody thought French electronica was shit after hearing this, until Daft Punk came out and said, "désolé, try this instead," and erased everybody's memories of this rubbish. Best: idk, Hypnotise was alright, and maybe Jacques Your Body Worst: Dreamin', Music Makes You Lose Control, From Disco to Disco
Enough electronica!!!
+1 fordi jeg godt kunne lide den med Nik Kershaw. Behøvede ikke at høre dette før jeg dør
Nødt til at indrømme at et par af de senere numre var kæmpe bangers. Men noget af det var osse bare pisseirriterende.
It feels like he was 20 years late to the party..
I feel like you could find 1001 electronic albums more worthy of inclusion if you really tried.
I enjoyed it but it was not for me
Obviously never heard of this guy, based on the title and album art... if I had to guess... it's gonna be electronic dance music and I'm not gonna like it. Surprisingly I don't hate this right off the jump, it's actually pretty groovy. The songs are pretty repetitive... Like.... super fucking repetitive. Yeah as this goes on I'm liking it less and less. Not for me.
not for me; too repetitive
This is pretty soulless. It's not unpleasant listening, but there's not much substance to it.
First listen. Ok.
really dont fuck with it
What a trip, I would honestly give this 2.5 stars for the amusing experience of descending into a surreal techno bubble doing paperwork in a windowless room with a door that opens into a noisy industrial processing facility with forklifts and noisy machines. Very appropriate. Most of these songs sound like they could be the background music to the way-too-long opening scene of a 90s movie where someone is going to work in busy traffic, but wow is this a lot of canned beats.
Sort of lame 2000's electronic with wannabe hiphop influences. While there were a couple somewhat compelling tracks (I liked Disco II Disco and Jacques Your Body Makes Me Sweat), probably nothing enough so to bother putting it on again.
Each track sounds like advert music that was padded out way too much to get it to song length. Even the album cover is borderline an ad for Pepsi. I'm not even sure how influential this could have been. The Chemical Brothers song Block Rockin' Beats was 2 years earlier than this for example. There are some interesting sample choices, but they overstay their welcome.
Es música para bailar. Correcto
Hey You what’s that sound was fun, but the rest feels repetitive and pretty dated. Hard to imagine this was all that interesting even in 1999.
Whether this is good or not (it's ok?) It has no business being on this list Take A Little Time is good. The album is better in the second half when it's less just the same phrase repeatedly said over a beat
3/10 Why this? Why for? 12-11-2024
Has all the usual posterity problems of dance music – disposability, forgettability. Not sure about the nostalga, don't care about the (alleged) dancability. Seems more silly than fun.
Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco Disco 2 Disco 2 stars
Did someone include this album as a prank? It’s utterly forgettable.
2,5
Better listen to Etienne de crecy: Super Discount.
Some songs sound a bit like it could be a jamiroquai song and those can be quite fun, but there are more songs that are just shit.
That's a lot of shit for one album
Why is Soft Machine called that? It should be called Lucifer Rising, soft machine is only whispered a couple of times at the end of the song. There’s a typo on the Spotify listing for (Hey You) What’s That Sound. They capitalise the ‘s’ on What’s. I’ve checked other track listings online and nowhere else does that. I also find it hilarious that Wikipedia doesn’t mention this rendition at all on the Covers and Samples section of For What It’s Worth’s page, despite the fact that the listing on Darkdancer’s page directs to it. The way ‘From: Disco to: Disco’ is formatted infuriates me. That is all. Actually no, I’m listening to it now, that is not all. What the fuck is this? I’m so glad I’m not listening to this while hungover. I am in hell. That’s the only explanation. How could the album that started off with such a decent groove Music Make You Lose Control descend into the so called hook of Brothers? Nevermind, I actually am in hell now. What the fuck is this on Make Your Body Jacques Sweat or whatever it’s called? I genuinely just facepalmed at the intro to About Funk. Is this what the album is now? The most irritating vocals ever chopped up into an audio salad then some beat work that, if at least decent, is not decent enough to justify the badness of the vocal hooks? Just have the music. You don’t need vocals, especially if you’re not going to use them to say anything interesting. Just make the album an instrumental
1.83
I recognized "Music Makes You Lose Control" from being sampled on Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" and I recognize Stuart Price from producing credits on many records I like. Other than that, this album was fun and ok but not very memorable. Key tracks: Music Makes You Lose Control
Pretty shite
Not terrible as background music. Very repetitive though Standout songs: Music Makes you Lose Control Hypnotise
Incredibly disappointing. They're called "LES RYTHMES DIGITALES", the album is called "DARKDANCER" and that album art goes so fucking hard. I thought to myself "DAMN THIS MUST BE SOME BREAKBEAT SHIT LIKE PRODIGY OR CIRRUS", instead I got Baby's First DJ Set. The production is good. The beats, while repetitive, are good in their own way. The vocals are atrocious and kill every good vibe that the songs make. The only songs that I could say I liked were Hypnotise and Take a Little Time, and I wish the album sounded more like that last one track because the rest is bad. And not "so bad is good". No, it's bad. I even made the exercise of listening to it while playing Need for Speed on the PS1, and not even the magic of polygonal NFS could save this album. I WAS FALLING ASLEEP. LRD EVEN MADE A REMIX FOR PURE MORNING BY PLACEBO, AND THAT REMIX IS GOOD. WHAT IS THIS? 2/5, but 3/10. Disappointing.
Yeah not that interesting.
This is a bit naff. But he ended up working with Madonna so I guess that’s something.
Not horrible but also not very good
electronic dance, 1999 -> 2
Hmmmmmm, another one I'm not sure I must listen to. I could've died without these guys.
A full album of catchy licks mixed into a loop 10 times. Clearly influential in electronic music, but electronic music has gotten so much better.
The most generous way I can describe this album is unintentionally funny. I guess this was where art was headed in the late 90s when we had no social problems. Thank God for George W. Bush to give some texture to American despair and to re-start our art and music scene.
Oooh a techno album that doesn't just fade into the background! Unfortunately it was noticeable for all the wrong reasons.
I didn't latch onto any particular tracks. Appreciate it for what it is, but not my favorite.
A bit interesting here and there. Not really captivating for me
First few tracks I tapped my foot and nodded along, thought it was fine. Soft Machine is pretty rubbish and from that point I was mostly bored as it's all the same I don't mind this kind of thing in small doses but the repetition wears pretty thin over a 53 minute album Also it's dumb that this made it in and Discovery didn't, which is way better
The first track sounded like something from the soundtrack to sonic the hedgehog 2. Not the movie. The video game that preceded this album by 9 years. It didn’t get better from there. Disco to disco to disco to just fucking end me.
Geinig album, paar catchy bass lines. Verder niet heel interessant, 2 ster.
Surely one is missing something because this is dead dull, dance music, however digital. Is it supposed to be meaningful as proto Daft Punk or something? And like all tech-reliant and synth-driven music, this ages prematurely and ungracefully. Sounds neither relevant nor interesting as artifact.
Some pretty interesting grooves and fun electronic tracks, but nothing I'd ever seek out to listen to again. It's like the electronic album you'd hear in the background of a used game store in the mall, or an alternative clothing boutique - nothing you would choose to listen to, but it's fine background music.
little too much techno
Darkdancer is really cheesy for the most part, sounds like it was recorded 15 years earlier than it actually was, and that's not a good thing. Often seems like a pisstake of 80s synth electronica, but I dunno if that's giving it too much credit. Hypnotise was the only track I really liked, the rest was a load of meh, 2/5.
This did not stand out, it's pretty generic dance party music. Got better towards the end, where it was a bit less poppy and a bit more of an interesting listen (I liked Damaged People, the final track, probably the most), but other than that it's pretty empty, stale synth dance stuff that has been done a lot better by other people. 2/5.
There is a place for electronica, especially during workouts or while I'm working on my computer. It was less than impressive, and kind of annoyed me. But I didn't hate "Damaged People" terribly. 1.5 stars
I thought (assumed) I would be getting some French electronica — which would be barely tolerable — until it started and I checked the notes. More British dance music.
musically, this album is poor. the songs were too repetitive, had non-sensual lyrics, and were often boring. sonically, the album was boring, bar one or two songs that i enjoyed slightly more, due to the fact that they had little/no vocals. i wouldn’t listen again.
Just got a little bit dull over time. Possible that this one has not aged well. Soft Machine is the best song on here - very boppy. A bizarre but great album cover as well.
Еще одна группа, о которой я не слышал раньше. При этом я знал песню (Hey You) What's That Sound?
kinda fun but also kinda annoying
I'm saying this as someone who genuinely loves Kraftwerk's Autobahn: c'mon man, you've got to draw the line somewhere.
I used to like a few of these track in the mix back in the day. But to listen to this as an album in 2024 it’s boring and annoying. A poor choice to include on this list.
Decent electronic album, I think having vocals really made this easier to get through than some of the other electronic albums from this list. Not really my thing still but I can appreciate how layered the songs were, clearly a lot of work went into each one.
Not for me. I can see how it would be a lot of fun out with friends and drinking at a club. Unfortunately that’s never translated into great music for me. I tried to see if I could focus on various aspects of the record but that didn’t work either. I tried focusing on the music like an instrumental piece but it didn’t get me hooked. Nor did it lyrically. Annoyingly despite it not being something I will listen to again I had some of the songs stuck in my head as they were so simple and repetitive.
This felt like quite a schlep to be honest. There were certain songs I recognised, or at least samples. I found the repetitiveness of these songs difficult at times, but I understand that's probably a bit part of it. But the repeat of lyrics over and over was grating. Not my bag
Hard to find any justification for this being included.
That's not my taste in musik. Boring
All the track are far too long. I know most are between 3 and 5 minutes so not that long but if you only have 20 to 30 seconds of material stretching that out to even 3 minutes is going to be very repetitive very soon.
This is a super fun listen, but I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. Some of the songs are catchy and will be stuck in my head for sure, but others seem amateur in a way that I can't get with.
Not for me
Oh boy, another obscure British 90s electronica album. What am I gonna say about this one? I. Don't. Care. About. This. Album. Why is this on the list? I don't know! I'm starting to think that I just don't like electronica music. That might just be the one genre I can't get in to. Nothing about this interests me. The writing's repetitive and doesn't mean much to me. The sound is okay, sure. The production is well done. The last song was at least somewhat interesting with its darker tone and whatnot. This thing also drags. Am I really surprised? Not really. This doesn't need to be on the list. Low 2/5. Also the album cover looks goofy as hell. That's not important I just wanted to say that.
Not for me. Favourite track: Take a Little Time.
Very 80s. Nett gemacht.
Fine, nothing notable.
Noot bad but a bit tiresome
Darkdancer is the second studio album by Les Rythmes Digitales, originally released in 1999. My first thought is that this sounds super dated. I mean I feel like it would sound dated even in 1999. A lot of the electronics used here (especially the drums) sound more early 90s/late 80s. Also, as a lot of others said, a lot of it is repetitive. But maybe that's the point. If I was in a club off of molly than this would probably be a banger. Alas, I had to listen to this while working. Decent enough music, it had its moments. I especially dig the more funk-influenced tracks.
Ok. 2.35
Something tells me the writer who included this album heard it on holiday in Ibiza and was totally zooted on ecstasy with the Scooby Doo logo stamped on it. And then years later they heard Missy Elliot’s Lose Control and their fried synapses said I remember this album, it was like when I was on holiday. And then they included this album because they thought it was good. Even though it kinda sucks.
Dreamin’ Not really into electro but there were a few songs I was vibing with and enjoying. Second half of the album is starting to sound repetitive tho.
Even for electronic music this feels too repetitive
I like late 90s electronic music but this was just faux French electro imitation, with a lot of repetition in my opinion. It didn't grab me that much, at times it was even slightly annoying.
I would say the producer deserved to be on the list more than this solo album. Turns out he has worked on and produced some of the best pop music in the last ~20 years (Dua Lipa, Rina Sawayama, Jessie Ware) so just for that I won't hate on this album too much. A few really cool songs but many verge on annoyingly repetitive. I like the punchy synths on a few or the spacey closing track. 4/10
When this is all done people will look back at my stats and deduce that I hate 90s dance music. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is my jam, my era, my thing. But the dance music albums of the 90s were, largely, shite. So the tokenism of this list isn’t favourable to the genre. One half decent floor filler with a Skee-Lo sample an album does not make.
Elektronisk med et 80’er throwback, måske lidt for repetitivt
Too hard to find and listen to.
2.
I must have downloaded Disco to Disco back in the Napster / Winamp days. I distinctly remember the song and the terrible cover art, but none of the other tracks on the album. Mostly forgettable French electro with a hint of nostalgia. God knows how it ended up on a list of 1001 of the best albums of all time.
2.5
i went in expecting to really hate this, but instead i only mildly disliked it 👍🏻
This is pretty bad, barely listenable, and begind it's time
Some stuff was okay. I think if the songs were half the length it would have been better. They get a bit too loopy and repetitive when they're 6 minutes long.
I don't really listen to this style if music. So I can't say if this is good or bad. But it's not something I will listen to again. To chaotic for my to listen to while working, and not interesting enough for when I'm focusing on music.
Eh, it was fine I guess. Nothing really stood out to me, good or bad. We've also had a recent onslaught of electronica albums so it's possible I have electronica fatigue and/or this was just a weaker album compared to others we've heard recently.
Tää kuulostaa kuin fiktiivisen discomuusikon musiikilta: idealta, prototyypeiltä. Kuin jotain puuttuisi, muovinen. Mutta sieluttomaksi en uskalla sanoa. Ja kyllä tähän voisi vähän hytkyä.
