Endalausar lúppur eins og danstónlistar er von og vísa. Stundum virkar það, en oftar en ekki er það leiðigjarnt. Sumt er allt í lagi (Music makes you lose control), annað er verulega pirrandi (From: Disco to: Disco, Damaged people). Nennti ekki bónusdisknum.
Digitales Music makes me lose control is cool- sounds like a Stanley Clarke sample The third tune, soft machine is cool . Weird groove and It’s nice to have a real lead vocal in the electronic music instead of a just a sample. Sometimes also has a melody. This guy is a producer now for Dua Lipa including Levitate
Just meh for me, kinda weird.
It really says something when this is the record to represent Europop out of this list. The French have really innovated by finally discovering synthpop nearly 2 decades after everyone else, and trying to make it as commercial and derivative as possible without having to put any creative thought into it. I won't lie, there are a couple tracks I like. And the sound isn't too excessive so it doesn't get too annoying. It's hard not to like some of this when it tries as hard as possible to get stuck in your head without being too loud or over-the-top. Nevertheless, this form of house-synthpop fusion club music is designed solely to get people moving in your Paris nightclubs with appropriate one-line lyrics and repetitive beats and synths. You can dance and socialize without paying attention and yet you haven't missed anything. No attention span? Fear not, this is your jam. Europop was influential for keeping synthpop and house music alive in the pop sphere during this period where music was generally in synth-free directions, up until electropop would bring it back to the public consciousness in the late-2000s, followed by tropical house for 2010s EDMs nerds. People should know about it, especially since I believe it's still alive across much of Europe with the same derivative and commercial mindset to lifelessly suck as much as money out of the industry as possible. When I say derivative, I'm really not kidding. "Music makes you lose control" sounds like the synthpop founders Heaven 17 / Human League. Shannon imitates Madonna's debut in "Take a little time." The "Disco II Disco" almost sounds like a parody of Daft Punk. Finally, "Sometimes" reminds me of some 80s artist I can't put my finger on... Pet Shop Boys? It gets bonus points for being listen able. I was able to groove to a lot of it because it imitates my favorite 80s artists with very clean production, but that doesn't make it good at all. There's nothing new or exciting here, and of course it suffers from the classic 90s CD problem of being an hour long. Favorites: Music makes you lose control, Jacques Your Body Makes Me Soft
Not interesting. Stück in time.
I don't really know electronic music too well, but this has been rendered fairly obsolete by modern computers. Perhaps it inspired some later indie French/German electronic music I listened too, but generally nothing too deep or interesting is explored here. I thought perhaps "From Disco to Disco" and "Sometimes" stood out a little on first listen. Other tracks just fall back on tired chord progressions, or directly uplift samples and lyrics - probably why this can't be found anywhere online, because it's largely plagiarised? Anyway - not an essential album, though fine to listen to.
its not a musical album, its like a sample album filled with repetitive shit NNN
Okay, so it’s dance music. If in the world of dance music you consider Michael Jackson a perfect 100, then this would come in somewhere in the 20s. It’s kinda repetitive and not all that inspiring
Not really my thing but good background music. Favorite Track: About funk
This should have been a 15 minute sample CD handed out after shows.
Even for dance club music, this was pretty repetitive.
"Darkdancer" by Les Rythmes Digitales is an album that aims to blend electronic dance music with retro influences, but ultimately falls short of its ambitions. Released in 1999, the album features a mix of house, disco, and electro-pop sounds, drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s music. While the album has its moments, such as the catchy singles "Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)" and "Music Makes You Lose Control," it often feels derivative and lacking in originality. The production is slick, but many of the tracks lack depth and fail to leave a lasting impression. Overall, "Darkdancer" is a decent attempt at blending retro and contemporary sounds, but it ultimately feels like a missed opportunity. The album lacks the innovation and creativity needed to truly stand out in the electronic music landscape.
There are sooooooo many electronic / techno albums that are well known that are not on this list. then there is this… 2.5/5.
Idk what that was supposed to be and why it’s on the list
Fun but I’m not really into this scene
Trying to be fair as this is not something I would usually listen to. The production is crisp. It's Danceable. I'm really trying to find something else to say, but none of the tracks are clicking for me. I think Basment Jaxx were a little more interesting with this kind of sound around this time, but it's been a while.
This one set for a long time urated here. Before going back for another streak with the generator, I've decided to clean my unrated list. I don't know why I didn't listen to this album for so long. The terrible cover has to be a reason, I guess. To be honest it's not bad.the production on most tracks is actually very nice. He knows his way. My problem here is the sample choices and treatment. It's unfortunately quit generic and a bit lazy. It's a hard thing to pull off but not worth it. I've heard many albums that make this sound much better. So, it's a 2.3 I think it's fair.
Meh
This was a meme of outdated electronic music. The vocals are horribly bad and repetitive nonsense. Was a fun listen on a long car ride.
It was fine. Nothing blew me away
The grooves on this album are surprisingly good but it is still an era of techno that I have little interest in
Ok so I was like “who tf is this guy I should know him” and it turns out yeah I do but not for this project. He has some really good stuff later on as the Thin White Duke (Four To The Floor Remix) and then as Jacques Lu Cont (remixed tons of pop songs). And he produced Madonna’s best album imo. So this guy has chops, no doubt about it. BUT, I consider myself someone who has his ear to the ground for all things dance music from the mid-90’s onward, and I cannot in good faith figure out why this record is on here, and Daft Punks Discovery is not (and a whole list of other edm records tbh). Discovery is one of the most influential, perfect dance records, and this one from just a few years earlier…is kinda not even noteable? This album has not held its own in the past two decades, nobody talks about this album. In fact, this album is a spineless nothing-burger in the context of this list and in the context of its respective genre. This album can’t make up its mind if it wants to be something for your headphones or something for the dance floor. It uses a lot of dated sounds even for its time of release. The grooves and loops are sometimes grading on the ears. What are we doing here? This album feels like such a disconnected music nerd’s token pick of what they think good electronic music maybe could sound like. Do yourself a favor - instead of listening to this album, listen to Chicane’s “Far From The Maddening Crowds”. It came out at a similar time and actually commits to its melodies and ideas. It scratches the same itch that this album SHOULD be scratching. It is actually danceable AND more sonically layered. I’m so mad this took up a spot on the list.
Over all a well produced album. The genre is not for me. I have a problem with extremly repetitive loops. I won't be listening again for that reason. 2/5
Problem with early nu-disco (like early DP) is that some of the sound and instruments are great, but the songs are bland, repetitive, and annoying (see Disco II Disco). A couple standouts (Music makes, Hey you, Jacques)
Not my cuppa tea. It did get my arse shakin' though, I'll give it that.
Sure
It was so close to being similar to music I like, but not quite there.
<2
Forgettable and repetitive french edm - no thanks.
There was one track which had a repetitive tone which sounded to me like somebody begging "Why?". I found myself agreeing with them.
Nice album for that time
You can tell exactly what this album sounds like by its cover
Pass
Not bad - not great - not necessary to listen to.
Great music to clean to.
Mäßiger bis schlechter Synth-Pop
The beats are cool for some of the songs, but it sounds super repetitive in the vocals with no significant change throughout each song.
Better than I expected. I enjoyed the more 80’s sounding songs. Some songs were really obnoxious with the random sounds.
It sounds just as it looks
Too funky
BLECK!!!
Great if you like Daft Punk but think it’s too good. 2.4
We're all sacks of meat with Electricity in it. Dance, meat sack.
Uhhh... yeah why did this need to be here. Nothing special. Now looking up the guy who is behind it, he's a very active producer with a ton of artists I really like (scissor sisters, jessie ware, rina sawayama to name a few) and very active to this day but probably that's where he should stay.
The format of this project, where you try to listen to and form an opinion about a whole album, just doesn't work for most EDM. I'm sure this music would work perfectly fine when played at a party or something.
Not too impressed - a bit poppy, a bit Daft-Punky but the results sound like they should be in the 80's. Shame really. I had high hopes.
I mean, it's not the worst album I've had. It's passable, but I wouldn't come back again. This genre of music is not for me, and I'll be honest I would have a hard time recommending it to anyone. Some the lyrical stuff was alright though. Sometimes stood out among the sea of meh.
No es terrible, podría escuchar algún que otro tema por separado, el álbum de corrido no lo volvería a escuchar, en parte es repetitivo y tampoco soy fan de la música electrónica de por si
Wait this is super fun actually!!! Repetitive but not quite annoying, great background music -- better than a lot of electronic stuff I hear now-adays Some tracks better than others, Music Makes You Lose Control is a fav so far, wondering why a lot of them are not available on Spotify though Sometimes is fun too not my usual genre but I can definitely enjoy!
This album is fine, but sort of all over the place. A few individual tracks are more notable than the album all together. Weird to learn that it's not actually a French group but just one English guy. I think I'm a fan of the style but would actually prefer not to listen to this again.
Fun to listen to on a surface level, but very repetitive and completely lacking depth. Is it even art? Rating: 1.5/5 Playlist track: Sometimes Date listened: 28/11/23
the repetition is making me hate my life not only is it all repetetive why is it all 5+ minute slong thank god this album is missing half of the songs on spotify so i cant listen to it all and no i will not be searching it out elsewhere
This was pretty dumb and silly, but at least entertaining in a corny way. Amazing how rapidly dated the breakbeat sounds of the 90s became in such a short time frame, hearing the Amen break looped repeatedly as the rhythm track feels like the musical equivalent of discovering a fossil.
Nu ne pārāk. :D Man vibe bija tāds, ka jāpaņem narkotikas un tad var tresīt. :D
HL: “Music Makes You Lose Control”, “About Funk”, “Sometimes” feat. Nik Kershaw, “Mdc Vendredi” Supposedly 80s revivalist, but also sounds like it could only have been produced in 1999 I’d say this album is 1 part banger : 1 part forgettable : 1 part obnoxious garbage Even one of my favourite tracks, “About Funk”, needs half its runtime to become good I feel like I’d be less annoyed if it was an album excised from current editions of the book, like MJ Cole’s Sincere, & Justin Timberlake’s solo debut. The fact that it’s still considered essential listening is the real headscratcher November 21st, 2023
While there are some good elements at play here, to my ears -- likely based on decades of listening to certain types of music -- this album sounded a little too artificial to me. This isn't to knock the creativity or work that went into it; just a matter of personal preference.
ninja fortnite
Meh. If you ask me, it definitely didn't need a spot on this project. Music was fine, but nothing noteworthy.
If there is one thing I've learned about old electronica it's that it took a long while before it got good. Either that, or it ages horribly. This was ok at best but pretty dated and all over the place? 5/10.
Dollar store Daft Punk
Maybe this hits different when you’re in the club or drunk, but for now this isn’t hitting Also shout-out to From Disco To Disco for accurately replicating the sound of someone strangling a duck Favourite tracks: Music Makes You Lose Control, What’s That Sound
I think the curators here are having a laugh, making thousands of innocent folks listen to this shit
Electronic music is tough for me.... I miss lyrics, and it's so fast and repetitive. I had to skip some songs... it'd be a great album for a dance vibe/party
It sounds like a bad and powerless Justice. Why this album is on the list will forever remains a mystery.
Alright album but not my cup of tea
This album's music sounded like the album's covered looked. Not my taste
Favorite Tracks: Dreamin', Music makes you lose control, Soft machine, About funk
Honestly thought this would be an album that would make me laugh but I wouldn’t actually hate it but towards the end it got extraordinarily repetitive and I honestly got a little bit annoyed by it and actively dislike that I did recognize one of the earlier songs in the beginning I’m assuming it was a sample used by another song because I didn’t know the rest of it. Other than that one song, it really didn’t bring anything to the table and I wasn’t a fan.
so much potential, but lost interest quickly
In its genre, its pretty mediocre
girl. listen. i understand it’s important to experiment with Noise in order to find new Sounds but Noise as a genre is not my vibe and a lot of the Sounds on this record were out and out sensory issues.
EDM, trance, techno, rave... it's all essentially variations on a theme. play a couple of chords, put a beat to it, repeat ad nauseum.
A few were catchy, but weren’t going to be more than background music for me.
2.5 This is one of the most 90s album covers I’ve ever seen. Like, I wouldn’t be surprised if homeboy is cracking open a Crystal Pepsi. Did SEGA base everything about Jet Set Radio off this one image?? Anyway, unlike the album cover, the music actually feels quite ahead of its time - it sounds like this guy was not only a big influence on artists like Daft Punk and LCD Soundsystem, but also the entire club scene in the decade ahead. That being said, I’m not a huge electronic fan, and this album didn’t do much to change my mind - which is a bummer, because I feel like it was so close to doing so. The album starts strongly with the danceable Dreamin’, seguing into what is far and away the best track, Music Makes You Lose Control. Holy cow, that looping guitar part is absolutely insane and was stuck in my head long after the album was over. Unfortunately, that song’s best attribute also happens to be the album’s biggest detriment - every one of these songs just loops over and over. When it works, it works well, and when it doesn’t, it turns a 4-minute long song into a slog, and the further you get into this album, the more of a slog it becomes. There’s really not a ton interesting going on after Hey You What’s That Sound? except for maybe the closer, Damaged People, but at that point you’re already long checked out. As mentioned, I know he was ahead of the curve here with the 2000s electronic scene to come, so maybe I shouldn’t hold him to the same standard, but at the same time, he had plenty of electronic groups from the 80s to take notes from, so I think this really had the potential to be something greater. Either way, it seems like this guy is doing pretty well for himself, because even though this ended up being his final album under the uncreative and weirdly French name Les Rhythmes Digitales, he would go on to become a Grammy-winning producer, working with artists like Madonna and The Killers - so maybe he just needed somebody else in the studio with him to truly elevate his work. I wanted to end this with a jab at the French (as is tradition), but it turns out the guy is actually English. So, no jab needed, because what’s sadder than pretending to be French?
Music Makes You Lose Control // 1.5-2/5
I dont really understand the inclusion of this. Its not awful but very predictable and dull and contains tired disco/dance tropes. And Daft Punks Discovery is not in???!!! 1.5
2 stars only because there are some nice grooves in here, but overall this is a big no for me.
this grew stale fast lmao but i still had a lot of fun at certain parts
Many tracks made by Gene Belcher. About Funk would fit on Katamari Damacy.
Yeah it's funky disco music, but didn't age too well in my regard and I'm not gonna treat myself to it again, sorry.
It was ok, nothing I would listen to again but it was ok to listen to.
Disco. Electrónica.
If this is the definition of disco circa 1999, I'm happy I was not invited to the party.
Ce genre un peu répétitif et «machinal» ne me rejoint pas vraiment. Il est difficile pour moi d'y fixer mon attention. Je peux reconnaître que c'est bien réalisé et entraînant.
Bättre än vad jag trodde
Not my cup of tea
lol ok, electronic shit from the UK no doubt. lol yep nailed it. Sounds like demo tracks for FL Studio: it knows what it's doing technically, but has zero fucking character. I mean it has something less than character. In the fucking BIN. 2/5.
How is this considered ahead of its time? To my ear it sounds about a decade behind. In fact it feels deliberately nostalgically so. For some perspective, another piece of electronica that came out in 1999 was Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker" EP. Hell, even The Chemical Brothers' "Surrender" (also 1999) makes this sound old fashioned, not to mention other 1999 releases from Autechre, Mu-ziq, Squarepusher, etc. Had this come out a decade earlier I might be slightly more impressed, but I'd still hate that weird Pepsi ad they have on the cover.
When I thought I didn't like electronic dance music, this is what I thought all EDM was. Meh.
I can only imagine the amount of Mountain Dew that must have been drank when making this
Nothing special. A couple of tunes I recognised from my youth but otherwise meh.
Not that great. 2.5
Why is this here
Probably could have died peacefully without listening to this.
I mean it's fine if you like electronica, but I don't see a reason why it's included on this list. It's repetitive and nothing special
This does not spark joy
Not my type of music but this was okay. At least I could see how someone could dance to it.
Música electrónica de principios de siglo, con ritmo, sin destacar especialmente y con influencia de sintetizadores. Ni conocía al grupo ni noto que destaque especialmente
dance motherfucker, dance!
Sounds hella dated! Way too bouncy for me, too clean, feels like you walked into a brand new club vs some warehouse in the middle of nowhere where you are losing your mind to the music and also looking for an exit just in case!
Boring repetitive electro dance album not a fan
Someone got a drum and clap machine for Christmas and made an album with it. Very 1980s feel about it, bits of Alexander O'Neil, 5 Star and Culio.... but nothing that worthy. It's OK on in the background, but you'd never choose to listen to it.
definitely one of those albums that I was happy to see more than half the songs weren't available on spotify. Oh darn...
trash
Music make you lose control. This is Sega Dreamcast music - electronic music that doesn't elicit much emotion apart from just party rockin. Some cool sounds, and some that are really annoying and repetitive. Mostly not my thing, last 2 songs were neat. 2.5
Hey you, what’s that sound? Complete bollocks is what that sound is. I can hear nothing original on this album, it’s just generic dance music. Fine if you’re in a club. It kind of got better as it went along but I’m fairly nonplussed and ending on ‘We’re all damaged people’ was a downer. Wouldn’t want to dance to that in a club! But it reminded me a bit of Adamski - I think I’d rather listen to ’Killer’ tbh. And that came a good decade before this. Why do I need to hear this before I die?
Fun record. I couldn't listen to it in its entirety. A bit too repetitious and random. This would be great for a club if the DJ called out sick. I might like this better if I wasn't trying to work while listening to it. Overall nothing clicked to engage with the vibe being laid down.
I probably would have enjoyed this when I was in my 20s and high and drunk at a club, but I also think that most of the credit would go to the drugs and the drink, not LRD. I don’t even want to read any reviews on why this deserves to be in the1001 albums list. I just want it to go away. Until I got to Mdc Vendredi. Either the songs have gotten better or I have become a slave to the rhythm and succumbed to Stockholm syndrome. That still doesn’t get it more than two stars.
Next selection, please.
Only select songs were available on Spotify, but I got the idea. Not really for me.
A nice contrast to the Chemical Brothers I got a little bit ago. But still constantly groovy and totally forgettable. I do admit that the vocals make it a little bit more interesting from soup to nuts. But I still can’t give it any better a rating than I did that one.
A bit lame, not my cup of tea
i do not like house music and this list's many attempts are doing nothing to change that
As camp as a Year 7 getting to know you bonding retreat. I just wonder why it needed to be rereleased as a 99 minute monster. I couldn't get through the whole thing.
I thought this was bad French electro and then found out it was bad UK electro. I found a lot of this album genuinely annoying to listen to. Why put this in the Top 1001 when there are so many better examples from the time?
Not great, but not terrible.
This should not be on this list
Well this looks like it'll be fucking terrible.... It was a dark and stormy night on the Isle of Man, and I, Hunter S. Thompson, was holed up in my dingy hotel room, trying to escape the howling winds and lashing rain. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, I heard a knock on my door. I stumbled over to answer it, and was confronted by a giant of a man, easily six and a half feet tall, with a wild, unkempt beard and piercing blue eyes. His name, he told me, was Shack, and he had a story to share. I invited him in, and as he settled onto the threadbare couch, I poured us each a stiff drink. And then, in his deep, gravelly voice, he began to speak. Shack was from the remote, windswept hills of the Isle of Man, a place known for its rugged beauty and fierce, independent people. He had lived there all his life, surviving on a diet of fish and potatoes and the occasional sheep that strayed too close to his homestead. But despite his size and strength, Shack was a gentle giant, and he had always yearned for something more. And so, one day, he decided to leave the Isle of Man and see the world. He set off on his journey, traveling through fields and forests, over mountains and valleys, until he arrived in a bustling city full of bright lights and tall buildings. At first, Shack was overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of the city, and he spent his days wandering the streets in a daze, marveling at the endless crowds of people and the endless possibilities that seemed to lie before him. But as the weeks turned into months, Shack began to grow tired of the city's endless distractions, and he longed for the simple, peaceful life he had left behind on the Isle of Man. And so, with a heavy heart, he packed up his bags and set off for home. As he journeyed back across the hills and valleys, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him. But no matter what the future held, Shack knew one thing for certain: he would always be a giant of a man, with a heart as big as the Isle of Man itself.
It was OK - not sure how I missed it, I loved Daft Punk, Cassius etc. - I suspect it was because this stuff is just a bit average really
Some interesting moments. But, overall, just OK.
some songs downright hurt to listen to
Not a lot of songs available on Spotify. Listening to Jacques You Body rn and it reminds me of what papa likes to listen to. Not bad but not what I’d usually put on
Reeks of insufferable UK lad trendiness, probably the result of a spoiled suburban brat trying to copy '80s electro tunes on his expensive Korg keyboard. Has a few good spots but mostly boring and annoying. Not sure why this is essential, if you wanted to memorialize what a Lanhdahn wanker was listening to in the late '90s we've already had Finley Quaye and Tricky.
It was like going back to 80’s hip hop, but in the 90’s!!
dreamin - 6 music makes you lose control - 5 soft machine - 6 hypnotise - 4 (hey you) what’s that sound? - 4 take a little time - 5 from: disco to: disco - 3 brothers - 4 jaques you body - 3 about funk - 3 sometimes - 4 damaged people - 3 steps ahead - 3 energy - 3 nancy jamaica - 4
Quite cool but almost all of the vocal samples are really annoying
Kinda sounds like a bad version of good electronic music 2/5
I didn't dislike the synth-pop parts of this album (and even enjoyed Sometimes) but feel like this style of music had already passed its prime 10 years prior to this album's release. Most of the album was more electronica focused and although it's admittedly quite danceable, I'm not much of a dancer.
Meh
This genres isn’t my jam, but I can recognize why people would like this.
didn't vibe with how loop-focused it was
Dunno, felt a lot like a background soundtrack for a movie or something.
too zoomer for this
No es mi estilo
Batidas em sequência ficaram repetitivas.
Not a fan
Nah
-"Jacques Your Body Makes Me Sweat" has cool bass to drive the song along -"Music makes you lose control" and "Hey you what's that sound?" have lines front he hooks I've actually heard before -"Soft Machine" mentions "Lucifer rising," which was a bit of a surprise -Other than those small notes, generally I found the music straightforward and repetitive. I can see how some of them would make good songs to dance to, but they weren't interesting to listen to
I’m sure it’s great if you like electronic music
Ok dance album
The Spotify version was missing a few songs but I got the picture. Generic dance music. A lot of the Spotify recommendations that came after this were much better. 2.5 stars
2/5
Есть известный трек (или ремикс на него). Есть неплохие вещи по звучанию, но, в целом, то самое звучание электроники, которое когда-то очень утомило меня. Зацепила разве что Damaged People. 4 из 10.
I give this two stars cos there is a small number of tunes I actually do like, those being "Take a Little Time", "Sometimes" and "Damaged People". Apart from those, this album represents pretty much everything I hated about late 90s dance music back then and still have no time for now.
2.9 - Pleasant enough but underwhelming. Tracks build on a few elements - a beat, a repetitive vocal phrase and some dramatic synth lines. I struggle to see what place this record has in the list. Compared to other electronic albums of the era (e.g. "Homework"), this feels staid. I feel like any semi-serious hobbyist could churn out something comparable on Garage Band these days.
I couldn’t listen all the way through. It was a bit of an assault on my ear drums. I was not in the mood to be challenged in that way.
Meh. Nothing that grabbed me. But it wasn't offensive, either.
Not a fan of techno or electronica or funk or whatever this genre is, but I can't say I hate it. Okay as background music, but the chances of me digging this up for another listen are slim to none.
Another pretty weird electronic pop album. There were a couple songs that I could listen to and didn’t mind. There were some that were awful and I had to skip. Overall not too great. 2.9/10
Would have been alright without the AWFUL vocals
Loucura.
This album was kinda fun but in a lame and mindless way. Music Makes You Lose Control reminds me of Devo. The album quickly got repetitive and at the end of the day I felt no great need to seek out the four songs that Spotify didn't offer. Eight songs was enough.
I didn’t mind this at the start. The first track has a good synth hook and is catchy. If I were to compare “Hypnotise” or “About Funk” to Daftpunk mid-90s stuff, for example, this is more melodic and poppy. “Music Makes You Lose Control” and “Hey You” are borrowed and barely bearable. “Sometimes” with Nick Kershaw on vocals is not even remotely bearable. 5/10
Good 90s electronic UK music
Well. Le Cont is Stuart Price. Which makes that shtick an extremely worthwhile proof-of-concept. Still didn’t like it, tho.
would have been good without vocals
Interesting album. But could definitely not be on this list.
Half the album wasn't available on Spotify but what I've heard was repetitive and unimaginative
one of the weirdest inclusions on this list just really basic 90s electronic from a group that didnt do anything afterwords
Vähän oli sellasta tyhjänpäivästä eikä biisit tahtonu erottuu toisistaan. Ja pitkäkin oli. Meni se taustalla.
Not bad, but just not something I could get into. Every song was repetitive and sounded just like the one before it. By the end I wasn't sure if I'd listened to one long song or not.
A new band and new music for me. There was some okay stuff, but this album wasn't for me.
Interesting and at times really enjoyable. Quite grating at other times tho and the album feel quite long and tedious overall. I can hear this albums influence on other bands I like but won’t revisit
A few good tunes in there
Just not my thing.
Interesting and at times really enjoyable. Quite grating at other times tho and the album feel quite long and tedious overall. I can hear this albums influence on other bands I like but won’t revisit
Barebones production without nuance or flair. One hit single. Not worth a re-visit.
Más entretenido de lo que recordaba.
Meh
Int så bängeri. Techno/Electro/Whatever, långtråkigt
It’s okay. I love track 3 but not really into the repeated vocals and common musical theme throughout. Too samey but an interesting listen.
Alright music. But not special to me. Not my kind of music.
If these EDM albums are the ones that make the list, I'm confirming that I am not into EDM.
false
It's not bad, but it really wasn't my taste and the music seems a bit date in a bad way.
this is awful but not as awful as the album art indicated. 1.5

This is shit.
I don't think I recognize this artist at all, so I'm going into this completely blind. Almost instantaneously, I could tell this would be tedious to get through. This just isn't my thing. What makes this album special enough to be included on this list?
Komplet intetsigende. Et af de albums man ikke forstår hvorfor er på listen.
Just no
The civer says everything you need to know, unartistic, uninspired music by and for douchebags who pretend to be elrctrinica hipsters to pick up annoying boho chicks
Four notes in and I know this sucks. This is like the worst of 80s music and electronica at the same time. Maybe that's the appeal for some Millennial music critic with, like LCD Soundsystem said, nostalgia for the unremembered 80s. Add synth pop to the list of genres that as soon as I see the label, I know it's going to be a long listen. Why are all these electronic albums so long? I have no words for how awful this is. Disco II Disco is one of the most annoying songs I have ever heard. I guess I have some words. Mdc vendredi could just be warmed over Grandmaster Flash. Nope, it gets so much worse so quickly. This is like the music they use to program people in cults or to torture inmates in contravention of the laws of war...and people listen to this voluntarily. It really makes you realize how truly awesome drugs are. No shitty album would be complete without some fake found sound. This was not good. I guess Damaged people is the highlight? That's not saying much though.
This is an early 90s things released almost into the 00s. I'm all up for the reinterpretation of music of the past, but it becomes less interesting when it's a literal copy of an era. Specially when someone starts singing nonsense. Two tunes stand out for being different: Soft Machine and Damaged People. The rest is just too derivative.
this is pretty unremarkable
I would rather listen to Lords of Acid or Tricky or......almost anyone else....
This was bad. It got me grooving a little bit so I kept listening but nothing redeemed.
nah
Random noises for stoned people. In my opinion, that's not music.
OF COURSE this has to be a fake French electronic album by an English guy. OF COURSE.
One of first, if not the very first, one star reviews I gave on here was for Connected, by Stereo MCs. It was a dog shit English electronic album with a dog shit cover. I listened to it, and thought “ha ha! That stunk! That was funny!” That was about two and a half years ago. It’s almost inconceivable how many more dog shit English electronic albums with dog shit covers I’ve listened to since then. Why am I doing this to myself. Why do we do anything at all.
Why is this album on the list?! What reason do I need to hear this before I die?! Seriously it's annoyingly repetitive, nonsense. Yes it's music, but it's not good. Again, the list has no Tool, no Harry Belafonte, no Cranberries, but this pile of shit is one we have to listen to?! Fucking hell give me some better albums!
Fruity Loops demo track-ass beats
Zeitverschwendung
Turned it off at Disco II Disco. I thought my overstimulated brain would explode.
This album really loves to drag on doesn't it? Just constant pointless meandering of a sound that wasn't even actually that good to begin with. It's not even one of those where it starts with a cool idea and repeats it to death, it starts bad and continues being bad throughout the progression of each song.
Junk.
really dont like this style of music
Music to dance to while tripping out on E at 2 am in a club. Honestly, while in this state you could be listening to TV static and not care. I prefer TV static to this any day of the week.

Rarete rarete
Cheap eurotrash electronic music that sounds like a teenager got his first synthesiser. Really difficult to listen to. The music is jarring like nails on a chalkboard and the lyrics nonsensical. I couldn't connect with this in any way.
Isn't avaibable on Yt
DNF. Like nails on a chalkboard for me.
dentro lo que electrónica, no está taaan mal. Pero cada vez que medianamente sentía que lo estaba disfrutando, pasaba a odiarlo en segundos. Y además es muy largo.
Been quite a while since I've given a 1 star review! Some of the songs weren't that bad but it's dragged down by some absolutely awful tracks. From Disco to Disco genuinely might be one of the worst songs I have ever heard.
It's a no from me, Les.
It's just bilge isn't it basically. Like Daft Punk, but without the muscle memory of having heard the songs loads of times before. I know everyone says 'I don't understand why [an album from a genre that I don't get] is on this Project', but I really don't know why this would be on here when it increasingly seems that Neutral Milk Hotel isn't.
Forgive me, I’ve gotten a handful of 90s albums of this (adjacent) sound in a row and am more than a little fatigued, so I am probably being ungenerous here. It’s dance music that’s a little grimy (but not too grimy) and ahead of its time as far as predicting the sounds of 2000s electronica and dance pop, but as always time is not always kind to progenitors and I was ready for my listen to be over by the halfway point. I was also surprised to see the 1999 release date; this has early-90s excess written all over it. The “For What It’s Worth” interpolation should’ve been cool but it made me laugh. I wonder if Stephen Stills has heard it. Production and mixing sounds good and I was leaning towards two stars because there is definitely skill on display here, but “Disco II disco” pissed me off into a one star; I say with zero reservations that it's an awful track. It marked a point of no return for me that the rest of the album could not and did not recover from.
If it’s any consolation, of all the one stars I probably hate this one the least.
This is the most bland and dull electronic album I have ever heard. Utterly soulless with dull riffs and hooks. Absolute white bread. Did not enjoy this at all.
merde
2/10, no, dance music
Sometimes was a fine song
According to Wikipedia: "In 2015, [a critic] placed it at number 97 on the "99 Greatest Dance Albums of All Time" list." I agree that there must be at least 96 better dance albums than this. I'm not convinced this isn't some kind of CIA psyop
"Looking through this black amphetamine eyes" is such a daft lyric. I prefer the song that samples, Music Makes You Lose Control, perhaps better known as a meme song. Really not for me this, massive miss. The lyrics are asinine and absolutely meaningless. I don't like the beats, mostly repetitive stuff. None of the boops appeal.
Has no idea what to expect with this. The album art reminds me of aqua for some reason. There's something about the vocals that I really dislike, but I'm not entirely sure what it is.... Could be that I feel like it's trying to be profound at times, but it's mostly repetitive nonsense. Anyway, I don't like it, and I don't feel like it has any right to be on the list! I don't see anyone wandering to listen to a full album of this 1.5
This is really a terrible album.
Not for me
好难听
My thoughts go to countless african and non white artists that could have been on this list but aren't because the authors prefer white mediocrity appearently.
Duurt lang, heel soms wat goeds, maar soms ook wat teveel aanwezig
I hated this album. Half the songs as instrumentals could have been great with the synth pop sounds, but the singing was unbearable in the repetitive, over the top 90s dance way.
I just couldn't get into it though I really wanted to.
On one hand I'm glad it wasn't britpop. On the other hand, I kind of wish I got britpop instead of whatever that was.
I liked the last song a bit, but the sound is very dated and doesn't hold the test of time.
Absolute shite
Uff.
Too long and almost nothing stood out.
... torture
This was a solid one until "About Funk" which somehow made me smile. Then "Sometimes" came on and any good will was quickly lost. There good examples of every genre of music. This was not one of them.
Sometimes I wonder if whoever made this list just looked up albums thought were influential and didn't bother to see if they were actually any good
This is worse than bad. It is uninteresting. The first song has a sound that makes me wince, and the last song damn near puts me to sleep. At no point did I feel like dancing, which is what it is supposed to invoke. A horrible inclusion on this list. 1/10.
Couldn’t finish.
Incredibly boring, one-note, and bloated as ever. I guess this was included for more genre diversity, but I seriously question how this much electronic music needed to be included in this project
Just nope.
noooooo no no noooooo
Mitä helvettiä
Fuck off. With all due respect…
Uninspiring house music which piggy backed off the French house wave. Dance music has so much more to offer and so many interesting branches that could have been in place of this album
Nope, terrible. Couldn’t full listen to one track
Wallmart daft punk.
Orka berre eit par slangar før eg fann ut at naah.
Nope.
1/5
I hate electronica, this more than most.
Nej tack
This was tough to listen to all the way through. Not a fan of this album — a little grating, imo.
Decent 1,5
Not a vibe
The first two songs were good dance songs with their rhythmic melodies. Four songs, "Soft Machine", "Disco II Disco", "Jacques Your Body Makes Me Sweat" and "About Funk" featured musical instruments and sounds which irritated me from the beginning to the end of the songs. I just couldn't wait for them to end. I thought "(Hey You) What's That Sound?" was boring. I thought "Mdc Vendredi" was just noise; another song I just wanted to end. Best song, "Take A Little Time" as there was more to the song as far as the lyrics were concerned. I also liked, "Sometimes". I thought "Damaged People" was too repetitive both in lyrics and in music. My takeaway from this album, what's with all the weird sounds?
Really cheesy electronic music that was hard to get through. Didn’t like any of it
Best: "Music Makes You Lose Control" Worst: "Jacques Your Body Make Me Sweat"
Nope
Were I to ever meet someone claiming this was their favorite album, there could be no guarantee that it wouldn’t provoke a violent response.
ugggggghhhhhhhh why is every shitty electronica album a fucking hour long
Pretty lame, Milhouse 😒
2 discs of "Technope"
I know everyone’s taste is different, but how the hell is this considered one of the 1001 albums I must hear before I die…
Sometimes you just have to try something simply because it exists, such as frog's legs, lutefisk, or haggis, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is great or even very good. That being said, I'll never listen to anything like this again
Why is this on the list? Seriously. So bad
AI: [Genre: 90s Eurodance / Cheesy Pop / Dance-pop] [Tempo: 135 BPM, high energy, driving rhythm] [Instrumentation: Pulsating synthesizers, bright piano riff, simple but heavy kick drum, upbeat bassline, a few basic sound effects like "whooshes" or claps] [Mood: Exuberant, ridiculously happy, fun, anthemic, nostalgic, a total "earworm"] [Vocals: Auto tuned simple male vocal chorus] [Lyrics: Cliché and generic lyrics about dancing all night, love, unity, and having a good time] [Song Structure: Classic pop structure with a clear intro, verse, big chorus, bridge, and a final chorus climax]
Even if I were in a dance club, the repetitiveness and inanity of this would annoy me.
It sounds like a parody of 80s wannabe French electronica that never went anywhere. Which in itself isn't a full album's worth of parody I'd necessarily need. But to make matters worse, this seems to be meant kind of seriously. "Music make you lose control" the annoying loop in the second song goes. Yeah, well, this kind of wants me to throw moth balls into oncoming traffic.
Off the cuff remark: when this started I thought: eeugh, hideous euro electro-pop. Second track and I thought, surprisingly enjoying this. 3rd track, more of the first and life's too short. Standout track: Music Makes You Lose Control Revisit?: why?
This is bad. Like really bad. In an attempt to say something nice about this: sometimes the bass line is really nice. I did stop paying attention for a while, and when I focused back in on what I was listening to, I actually didn't hate it (which was the last track). Mostly just because it's solid electronica dance music, which has its place, but, in my opinion, has a quality ceiling to it. It's not the worst album in the world, nor is it painful to listen to, and the last song has its time and place. But I didn't have to listen to this, today or ever. Favorite Song(s): Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)
As my first album I feel like I’ve been pranked because this is kind of a terrible album. And what a terrible album cover! Most of the music here is not good. The only tracks worth listening to are the one’s with guest vocalists, so tracks 3, 6, 11, 12. This album does not belong on this list (might not even make the top 10,001) and should be removed. Ok I guess I should look forward to tomorrow because it can’t get much worse than this can it?
Not my thing
Obscure European electronica? Of course the editor thinks you have to listen to this! When I reach the end of the list and realize all the great and influential albums that were left off, I'm going to be furious about the inclusion of so much mid electronica and mediocre '80s Brit pop.
0.5
Starting really bland and just becoming worse. 1 star
Super lame!!!!! Laughably terrible. And is he opening a can of soda on his album cover? He also looks like Seth Green from Can’t Hardly Wait. Very 1999 album cover.
Come back
Not my type of music. Could be good but I don’t link the over synthesized, repetitive songs.
This really doesn't interest me at all. 1 star or F.
Nothing too interesting, quite standard house music plus vocals. Didn’t grab.
nope. where is "0" stars?
Feels to much like a mixtape of a local wannabe DJ trying to convince others of how cool his tunes are than an actual album. It's not my really my genre but still I can enjoy the musical innovations of big Nineties dance outlets, like The Prodigy and Faithles. Les Rythmes Digitales doesn't even come near those, actually he might be the polar opposite. Even the Cover looks amateurish. The cover actually might be the only pioneering aspect of this record, since it looks like AI, which obviously did not exist in 1999.
Did some get a DJ studio for their birthday?? Disco/edm/dance music that would only be listenable on drugs while at a club. FAR too repetitious. Even if there's a minute that sounds good, it gets beaten to death for over 5 minutes. Crazee. "Music makes you lose control" Control "Music makes you lose control" Control "Music makes you lose control" Control "Music makes you lose control" Control "Music makes you lose control" Control "Music makes you lose control" Control "Soft machine" has a different voice and some cool music and then 'I got Lucifer rising in my head' 57 times!! If they removed this chorus/non-chorus rep bullshit, this would be a good song. "Brothers" and "Mdc vendredi" might be the least annoying songs here, just because they're instrumentals, but even these are a bit too repetitive. Production value is good. Production choices are insane! I don't think this is an album anyone Needs to hear again.
Big oof. (0/100)
Couldn't get through it, repetitive lyrics are a pet peeve of mine.
Why was this 90 minutes. 5 would do
Real talk, I think this style of dance music is a joke. And I think I’d put this album as a prime example.
Repetitive and dull.
What is this?
Badly dated, and a very dull listen.
Ok for what it is. It something I’d ever listen to again
this is 1000% gonna be ass isn’t it Update: yes
I have no idea why this is determined as something I must listen to before I die. This feels more like an album of beats than anything cohesive. Lyrics are badly delivered pointless drivel and the beats are far too simplistic.
Electro-pop. Drum machines, mind-numbing repetitiveness. This music has its place. Just not anywhere near me.
Gówno
