Sicher tanzbar.
This one wasn't the best. It sounded unique for sure, but as the case with me and electronic dance music, it was very monotonous. I'm honestly not sure what they should've added to reduce that feeling. It was un-exciting. There also seemed to be remixes of other songs on here which was a bit weird for me; never really heard that on a album before. One semi-positive thing I suppose is that the artwork is very video game-y and the songs might be it's hypothetical soundtrack. But that's all my thoughts, wouldn't recommend it. It's just meh at most. Highlight Song/s: "Dreamin"
I'm sure this is someone's Nirvana (band or place, you pick) but what a complete blackout this album was for me. There really is merit to this and you should hear it because even if it's not your thing you at least get to witness this thing. I can't give you anything from this album other than reading the song title and going "Oh yea I they probably said hypnotize a million times of a beat that sounds like it's straight out of Sonic" The instrumentals coast this up to a 3 because, while repetitive as hell, they do groove and they all could be sonic levels and isn't that really the true testament to how good a song is?
The rhythms are actually pretty fun. A bit more than just boots-and-cats-and-boots-and-cats. I guess it helped re-launch electro-pop for the early Aughts. I'm not totally a fan of that but I guess the influence is important. 'Disco II Disco' has a high-pitched recurring sample ('waaaaa' on the 'and' of 2) starting around the end of the first third that's annoying enough to skip the song. 3/5 -- you could continue your life without this one but it won't hurt you in any lasting way. It's pretty good but it's a weak relative of either Daft Punk or Justice (ironically, more French than Rhythmes Digitales, who is an Englishman).
was worried after the first track. so godawful bad. track two is a marked improvement. then “soft machine” is a stone groove. really great stuff there. “about funk” is also pretty great. “damaged people” is a really cool album ended. I mean, it’s a dance album, so not gonna be my jam overall. but there’s some really fun stuff but a lot of repetitious songs, too. again, dance music
Interesting.
It wasn't horrible and there were some spots I liked. Until they repeated it for 3+ minutes.
An interesting decent techno album
This seems to be taking a beating in the reviews. Fun synth-pop dance that set the tone for a while decade of music? I mean, you've got to respect the craft and foresight. It gives Daft Punk vibes at times, just more pop and lighter vibes.
3 because it is very influential
It wasn’t bad at the house. It would be above average If I scored this in the club after some drinks and dancing with my wife.
It was medium ok house
Very 90s and clearly dated, but it's fun and I can definitely hear where a lot of electronic music since has been inspired.
I'm a big fan of repetitive electronic dance music but this didn't really grab me anywhere. If it's on the list as a pioneer then well done for paving the way for others to do a better job. If not then there's better examples out there. This started off as a 2* but the second half ('Brothers' and beyond) is a lot better than the first half.
3.5. Enjoyable but a little bland.
Just another pretty okay electronic album, some good enough production but not really interesting in any way
Thought I was going to hate this but it turned out to be more enjoyable than I thought
Kinda liked it
Fine
I liked it at first and then it just kept getting worse and worse. I also only listened to like a quarter of the album bc most of it is unavailable on spotify whoops
I liked it.
5/10
Fun
I was just thinking that it's about time I had some electronic music on here, so this was welcome. Not entirely my cup of tea though. I like the bits with heavy techno beats, but the repetitive vocals and samples get on my nerves a bit.
Some interesting ideas but also some very annoying and repetitive ideas.
Listening to this in 2026 is strange as it was hugely influential on pop music in the early 2000’s and now sounds over familiar. It’s not super original slightly less intense than Justice and far more more pop than Daft Punk but generally ploughing similar territory. At first it felt really repetitive but when you realise this is music for dancing and not for walking the dog it makes more sense. And whilst I wasn’t dancing by the end of it I was certainly looser limbed
Dreamin' - 3.5/5 Music Makes You Lose Control - 3.5/5 Soft Machine - 3/5 Hypotise - 3/5 (Hey You) What's That Sound? - 3/5 Take a Little Time - 3.5/5 From: Disco to: Disco - 3/5 Brothers - 3/5 Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat) - 4/5 About Funk - 3/5 Sometimes - 3/5 Damaged People - 3/5 I did not have high expectations for this, but it turned out to be a decent listen. It sounded a bit dated at times and the vocal mixing on some tracks could have been better, but I was grooving along so it wasn't that bad. Overall: 3/5 Favorites: Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)
Well, this is not really my type of music but I must admin it is well produced. And it propably is liked by people who are into this kind of stuff...did not make it through the remixes though ;)
Um álbum dançante, divertido e bem feito. CVJ Vivian.
daft punk's quirky inept cousin
Je crois avoir entendu quelques tubes
Some cool songs on this! It kind of tapers off into some not as good stuff.
Grappig hoe een album zo gedateerd en zo modern kan klink at the same time. Het feit dat sommige liedjes nu kunnen worden gedraaid op een ietwat saai house feestje, zonder dat het opvalt, laat wel zien hoe ver vooruit bepaalde onderdelen van het album zijn. Voor de rest niet super interessant
2 hours of soulless bingley beep euro dance.
Svag trea.
5/10 I'm slightly disappointed that I didn't hate this more than I did. I'm such a Francophile. Repetitive junk, but it helped and booped along as I did my work
This was mostly harmless, I guess. And 1001 albums are a LOT, so I don't question that something like this belongs on a huge list of albums I should try to listen to before I die. It certainly beats having to listen to yet another album by Blur or Morissey. Pretty big drop off after the first four or five songs, though. It didn't go on quite long enough to get irritating, but one more generally lame song would have probably knocked this rating down one star. This rating feels like a rounding up of something that's just a little over a 2.5 overall.
good very fun
Never heard of this artist. A little cheesy sounding. It does sound a bit familiar. Cool stuff. Better than the album started.
This was a nice surprise! Pretty fun album to listen to that seemed pretty under the radar. It had a pretty cool Sega Genesis soundchip-styled sound to the music that I really dug. 3.5 stars.
You can tell this is early electronic music as it seems rather immature in sound, especially towards the beginning with that keyboard sound. I did really enjoy that last my track though and appreciated the track with the nod to the Buffalo Springfield lyrics.
I've said it before, the French know electronica. Some pretty good sampling and interesting tracks here, at least the ones that I could play. Its a little silly here and there, and unfortunately its repetitive as heck, although its pretty standard for the genre. Also some of these tracks are just way too long, that being said I understand this is being played in a smokey laser-light filled warehouse full of ravers so I'm sure they were rolling hard to this when it was dropped. Also some of these tracks remind me of Orbital, which is pretty cool. I think if you love the genre, you'll love the album.
This review is full of caveats. I didn’t mind this album! But I only listened to a minute or two or each song and according to Spotify most of the songs weren’t on available. Sounded like a Daft Punk imitation. Overall not as bad as the other reviews say but again… the caveats
Muy buen funky electro, es antiguo pero novedoso
Some Decent songs on it but overall yer a fine album
Not as much fun as I remember it being, but still an enjoyable slice of Daft Punk-esque dance music.
French dance beat. it sounded pretty ok.
It does have its moments, it grows on you... but it's too long and monotonous
Interesting synth pop
хороший приятная музыка, танцевальная может быть немного простоватая, но это тоже музыка, тут все норм есть хиты даже, мне нравится 3.3
Better than expected. Sounds very ahead of it's time, even though the sound production is quite simplistic. I don't mind a little of that "homemade" sound
EDM was a bit after my time...a time when I could dance proper to EDM. Now I could maybe last two tracks, then need a breather and a smoke. And no question I'd look like a damn idiot. Pity. This is good.
- barely had time to listen - fun and funky but nothing made me stop in my tracks - rating: 3/5
64/100. A classic electronic record with plenty of interesting ideas. That said, it ends up feeling quite repetitive, and some of those ideas don’t get developed enough to stay engaging. Still enjoyable in parts.
I don't mind the repetitive nature of EDM when I'm dancing, but when I'm just listening to an album straight through it gets a bit boring. Very danceable tracks for the most part, and "Damaged People" while not very lyrically deep, was oddly quite earnest.
Some tracks were a good vibe, others just felt kinda annoying and repetitive even for me. Still, could be a lot worse.
Before this albums list, I was unaware the French were so prolific in the electronica. This one is a real toe tapper, I tell ya. Good job, France! Keep this up, and I'll decline calling your tasty bread, 'Freedom Toast.'
Enjoyable as a different genre but got old fast.
It’s not that it’s not good, it is. But when you hold it up to contemporaries like Daft Punk, it pales in comparison and looks pedestrian. Jacques Your Body is a tune though
It’s fine I guess
This is just the epitome of the 90s, some really cheesy bits but fun nonetheless. Deserves 4 stars just for music makes you lose control
Better than expected
I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to. Not a big Dance genre guy, but this was an upbeat, fun, happy album that is so incredibly 90s. Highlights. "Dreamin'" and "Take A Little Time"
Gooooooofyyy babyyyy
Ok. That’s a good 90s techno
Nah. Too long and repetitive. Really over all the electronica albums on this. They are all always too long and repetitive. There were some creative moments, but then they get too repetitive because it just goes on and on.
And the Grammy goes to: the drum machine programmer. You do only need a driving bass line and a clever drum beat. Just one line of lyrics should do it. No real hits here but certainly some clever drum beats. I am kind of surprised no one has used some of these tracks as a basis for creating another track, or maybe they have and I am not familiar with it. I think Daft Punk did it better.
This dance music can be fun, but I'm more into interesting lyrics in my music and this is just repetitive. It's not bad at all, but not my cup of tea.
A formative moment from my early 20s. I’d recently left my short stint in theatre school, leaving many beloved classmates behind. Heading to my first post-drop-out party with those people I felt vaguely nervous. I pictured all sorts of interactions where I would be attempting to explain my reasons for leaving school and attempting to sugar-coat my ill-formed next steps. I soothed my nerves with some pre-drinks and a smokeysmoke. As I walked over I played, on my tape Walkman, a tape with the cautionary name ‘80’s Dance Party. It was full of atrocious songs like Two of Hearts, Obsession, and You Spin Me ‘Round (Like a Record), and, in spite of the atrociousness, really put my right in the pocket of a good mood for the party. I got there, mixed a highball and started hobnobbing. It was going surprisingly well. I decided to hit the porch for a jay. As I toked a huge tall greaseball of a man, a boyfriend of one of more hardcore theatre folk, covered in tattoos and burdened with a reputation for hard-core rough living came and sat beside me. With no preamble he eyed the headphones slung around my neck, leaned in toward me and whispered “what are you listening to?” I stammered and stuttered, “guh, er….um it’s um…’80s Dance Party”. By the end of my answer I was borderline inaudible. With a scowl he hissed, “can I listen?” Hands trembling, I turned over my headphones, withering in embarrassment. He put them on and pressed play. He took a long drag on his cigarette, gazing into the distance. He then clicked the STOP button and returned the Walkman. As he exhaled his smoke he gave a withering and disdainful, “duuuude,“ got up and stalked away without looking back. This entire album is like listening to that experience in the form of an album. The worst part? I don’t hate it and sometimes I even bob my head. It’s humiliating.
Repackaged disco for turn of the century dance music. Liked the first half more
I liked this more than I expected. Euro electronic music isn’t really my thing, but honestly I felt this one. 3 stars, solid “I like it.”
Some jolly 8bit esc tunes Too long
Bien funky-électro-ringard Donc évidemment : j'aime beaucoup ! HYPNOTHISE est chouette
Bien 3.8
Liked this more than I expected! (Which is saying quite a lot considering it’s now very well documented that I don’t like either 90s or house/electronica in general.) Some funky moments albeit very repetitive. Disco to Disco? More like Dalek to Dalek. The effects on that one just cracked me up. (2.5 stars)
For people complaining about repetitive lyrics, it's dance music it's par for the course, that like complaining about have guitars on a rock album. I would have probably rated it higher if it wasn't for a few of the songs sounding a bit too dated. Favourite song: Soft machine.
Faux-French Disco. The individual songs are ok. Some I remember from the time. But together as an album it lacks depth. I doubt this would be under consideration for a fresh list now.
It’s weird but not not fun
finally! a good album
The first five songs were way better than I thought they should be. Very funky dance tracks that had me moving. But I feel like it dropped off a cliff after that.
Good? Yes Greatest? Questionable This is what I grew up with and even I would skip over most of the tracks. Fine for background vibes, but couldn’t critically listen to a whole Album
Unspektakulären Dance Album ohne Highlight und Wiedererkennungswert.
211/1089 based on the cover and title/artist name, i’m excited to get into this one. saw Music Makes You Lose Control on the tracklist and felt a little disappointed though, i was expecting a style that’s a little more cool and unique but it’s still a bop so far it was a decent french electronica album but a bit on the dated side and i fear the cover being so good gave me too high hopes faves: Hypnotise, What’s That Sound, Brothers, Take A Little Time, Damaged People, About Funk 60/100
JET SET RADI- The fact-checking division at my supr srs review-writing firm has just delivered me a fax saying that this album released over a year prior to Jet Set Radio and that the vibrant, inner-city youth depicted on the album cover is cracking open a can of soft drink as opposed to a spray can. With these facts in mind, I am deciding to refrain from delivering the final vowel over fear of being wrong-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Ah, shit. That was billowing up inside me. I just shattered all the windows in the office. I've never heard of this album or artist before, though I'm obviously in for something electronic. If this winds up being a big beat album, then I fear I'll let out a bigger and more catastrophic Jet Set Radio which will completely topple the foundation of this building. This is gonna be a risky listen. Some strange, 90s dance offshoot. Phew, building saved. Anyways, what a bummer. The album starts out pretty cool with some sweet, subdued, bassy tunes then immediately tumbles off a cliff into whatever the jarring remaining stretch of this album is trying to be. In its defense, the music is energetic and vibrant enough to where it holds my attention and it was interesting to hear how the vocal samples were repurposed across each track, though the potential this album has was rarely utilised. The album also loses much of its fidelity as it drags on, leading to some unengaging and one-dimensional tunes. Overall, a disappointingly shallow offering from dance music, though this style still manages to be within my sphere of interest, so I can forgive it. Book time. This entry is right next to The Soft Bulletin. A real juxtaposition if I've ever seen one. Anyways, this album comes from a Brit, which is a surprise given the band name. "...embraced "Frenchness" as an irresistible catalyst for his energetic, hypnotic, and stylish musical output." This is the first time I've ever heard of someone being a Frenchaboo. I can respect it - the language is pretty nice. An 80s album unshackled from technological limitations of the time. Wikipedia says this album charted very modestly and got a mild reaction from critics. Can you imagine the cool, badass dance album which could have occupied this slot? I'm not an authority on the genre, but imagine if the Sonic R soundtrack made it on here? It was even composed by a British musician, so these list curators wouldn't even have to part with their national pride. While I've just conjured up an adequate replacement for this album, I'm thinking of keeping this one. It's at the very least distinctive and a welcome change of pace from all of the 60s pop rock albums that are clogging up the list. I cosign this inclusion.
Just another repetitive electro album from the 90s, but I liked that reviewer's story about remembering his friend. Highlights: hypnotise
did not mind this
Never know what to expect with these electronic albums. There is a funkiness to this one that I really dug, though repetitive at times (as this usually goes). Special shout-out though, "Music Makes You Lose Control" touched my soul. Rarely add songs to my Liked Songs list during this experiment but this one went right on. I guess it . . . . hit a chord??
This was a good album. Not my genre, but interesting sounds and enjoyable.
Nice bridge between retro 80s dance music and what was to come
Funky dancey but kinda long
Although I understand it's significance, I couldn't connect with this album. Blending modern and old school, perhaps really ahead of it's time. I seem like I better managed to connect with the less played songs. Possibly they had more of a genuine feel on them.
I actually LOVE the first song on this album. The rest is pretty meh though unfortunately. I'll still give it a 3 though, it's not too bad imho
Best Song: Music Makes You Lose Control. The vocals are great, that bassline is buttery. Nothing to dislike here. Worst Song: (Hey You) What's That Sound? This remix somehow sounds more dated than the original, and is just generally a downgrade of a great song. Overall: A nice mix of electronic that feels very much of its era, but its an era that sometimes you want to return to. Fun enough for throwing on in the background for some lightly groovy/dancey music, even if about half the songs are more annoying than they are fun.
It's pretty fun, certainly has some bangers. Unfortunately a bunch of songs, especially in the 2nd half, sound kinda dated and even a little bit annoying. Still a decent listen tho.
kinda groovy
Man, I really like 90s dance electronica! (Not a cohesive listening experience, though)
Interesting to hear an album that came out around the same time as Daft Punk was making their rise, and with this artist also being on the periphery of that very same scene of music. The album is smattered with several dance beats with funk and disco influences, that may not be so interesting in today's age, but I'm sure were quite revolutionary in its time. Tracks like "Music makes you lose control" and "Jacques Your Body Makes Me Sweat" surely served as inspirations for later dance hits as the genre kept growing into the earlys 2000s. Just a fine album for me in a vacuum, but can appreciate it more when considered in retrospective context of where dance music has gone since its release
La verdad me gisto mas de lo q esperaba x el estilo q es. No me gusta nada la portada me mata la vibra
Enjoyable enough but nothing all too special really
Love the album cover
some of these were great and then some were the most annoying thing i’ve ever heard. very middle of the road for me
Very average dance/electronic album. Nothing that special besides some cool synths and drums here and there. Daft Punk set the bar too high for French DJs
Decent techno-y dance music, a few I recognize at least samples from.
Not my type of music but I've enjoyed it as a background noise to learning
Good.
Honestly? A little too tame for my tastes. I mostly disagree with the take that electronic is too repetitive but this is just kinda meh.
3.0
6/10… french electro / indietronica / *1999
5/10
Not really my style but some pretty good house mixes
Not bad, but nothing to write home about either.
Some familiar tunes on here but euro house just isn't exciting. After 3 songs they all sounded the same
eletrice club beat
Damaged People best track... Hey You What's that Sound remix insulting... Disco II Disco absolutely unlistenable without wanting to put my head in a blender. Rest of is solid dance tracks nothing special.
It’s a solid dance music album. The first half sounds poppier and much more “played” music than samples and beats where the second half sinks into the looped samples of generic EDM. I prefer the first half and mostly can do without the second half.
Cool? I dunno. Maybe advanced for its time but it wasn't really that long ago.
Repetitive drum machines and loops reminiscent of the 80s. LRD has the hooks but doesn't seem to expand on them as much. It's like having the first few sentences of a chapter down pat, but then the actual plot is lost in the words. (2.5-3)
Lol Disco II Disco was so funny w that one wirey noise. Haha what a joke. Listened to it at the gym- not bad, but like…
Started to grow on me towards the end.
Electro Funk Banger mit Schnittmengen zu Daft Punk und French Electronica. Schmeckt - aber funktioniert nicht über 60 Minuten.
Puh, schwierig. Leicht anhörbare Elektromusik? Finde heute nicht richtig Zeit für Musik. Irgendwas besonderes fällt mir gerade nicht auf bei dem Album? Stört aber auch keinesfalls und ist abwechslungsreich.
Quite nice to have two electronic albums on the bounce. This album is pretty good, felt a bit like i was in some sort of early century video game, like Jet Set Radio Future (which was a FANTASTIC game). Definitely an album with filler tracks, but the filler tracks kept the vibes up, at least. 3.8/5.0 Best Song: Music Makes You Lose Control (Lrd Remix)
An interesting techno mix, including some I had heard sampled before and didnt realize they came from this album. I like the beats- songs were energetic if not a little repetitive. Overall- good album
Slip nipple hang
Plutôt cool mais un peu trop long et répétitif (normal pour de l'électro des 90s)
Sympa mzis pas trop mon style
I actually didn’t hate this!
I've never heard of LRD or this album before, but man, that's certainly an album cover from 1999 if I've ever seen one. It looks like the guy is opening a can of Pepsi, and that can better have a character from Star Wars Episode I printed on it. I never played the Dreamcast before, but looking at this picture makes me want to play Jet Set Radio. I see that this is an electronica album, and with a cover like this, yeah, no shit. I thought that Leftism was going to wind up being my last UK electronica album, but here we are. I have no idea how I'm going to feel about this album, but what a way to spend Thanksgiving! I'm surprised to say it, but I thought Darkdancer was pretty good. I really enjoyed the synthesizer arrangements on this album, and there were some really good bass lines on here too. Some songs were really good, some were forgettable, and a few were annoying. But for the most part, I enjoyed how these songs were arranged, and even though they could be a bit repetitive at times, I didn't mind, because they were pretty fun. Some notes on individual songs: I really liked the way the music filled the space on "Music Makes You Lose Control." The depth of sound was really interesting, and I liked how the vocals surrounded you on all sides. At a little bit past the one minute mark, there was some sort of fade that created a really trippy effect. The vocals on "Soft Machine" were really good. I liked how it was a good rock song spliced with electronica. The soft melody that was underneath everything provided some good depth to the song. "Hypnotize" was my favorite song on the album. I loved the synthesizer arrangements, and the drum and bass parts were excellent too. This was a really fun song to bob along to. "Disco II disco" was the worst song on the album. I hated the vocals, and that electronic whine that kicked in later was terrible. That element sounded like an electric trap from Turtles in Time, and I hated it. I liked the guitar playing and energy on "Jacques." The bass was great, and the synthesizer elements were really funky and fun. Nik Kershaw's appearance on "Sometimes" was really good. I loved the darker sound to this song, and Nik's vocals were excellent. This was another song that was just really fun to bob along to. Overall, Darkdancer was a pretty fun album. I don't think it's something I'd come back to, but it was a cool glimpse into late nineties electronic music, and it was fairly unique too.
***An ok album, easy listening
I vibe with it.
20 minutes is enough unless you’re in a club.
Something else from my teen years. My kind of electronica. Fun and easy. 3/5. A few duds but solid overall.
6 / 10
Perfectly listenable but not particularly exciting in terms of electronic music.
So a fake French electro-disco album, probably hasn't aged too well? Indeed, it does sound a bit creaky in parts, like Daft Punk/ Cassius without the hooks, or any one of the other euro pop outfits from the late 90s to be fair, which I guess was the aim of the artist. It's actually quite well produced, so I'm going with three stars, but it's a low three.
A dark reminder of the age of techno innocence
С одной стороны - я не люблю электронщину, с другой - это говно прям хорошо разбавило кучу душнилова
Techno...meh. Nothing amazing but nothing offensive. I liked the first couple a lot, but techno is just not my thing. the repetitiveness always gets to me.
Based off the artist, album, and album art, I liked it more than I'd expect. Groovy for most of the time - doesn't feel too monotonous.
Preety good
Decent but not exceptional dance, funk, electronica. Each track is built around maybe 4 notes, with somewhat interesting synth sounds. Add some random words on top and repeat over and over. Lyricism is certainly not the albums strong point. All that said, i did find myself jiving at times and singing along to the lyrical earworms, which must mean something. Favourite track - Music Makes You Lose Control. 6.5/10
Music make you lose control is a banger. Cool album 6.1/10
what in the goddamn dreamin- 5 music makes you lose control- 5 soft machine- 4. bro wants to be nin so bad hyponotise- 5 or 6 hey you whats that sound- 5 or 6 take a little time- 5 disco ii disco- 5 or 6 brothers- 5 mdc vendredi- 5 jacques your body make me sweat- 5 i spent my childhood listening to video game soundtracks so this doesn't sound as egregious to me as maybe it does to others but that doesn't necessarily mean i think it's good
I imagine it's great to dance to...wears a bit thin if you're just listening
The Y2Kest cover for the Y2Kest album. Enjoyable and light, although a bit repetitive. I'd like to rate it higher for its replayability, but I have to confess the depth wasn't there; it is background music, it just happens to be great at it.
inconsistent and a bit long, but with enough dance-y well-produced menu music beats to make it enjoyable. 3/5
Wasn't nearly as euro trash as I thought
Brothers and Sometimes stood out to me. I love dance and electronic music - for this to be from 1999 surprised me. It seems like a nod to dance music of the past.
More of a 2.8. Good gym music at the beginning but became annoying
it's fine, it's fun, although some of these samples have definitely been used to greater effect elsewhere!
Boppy, groovy, bit too long
Very enjoyable squelchy dance vibes.
Quite refreshing in the context of this exercise, but nothing that really grabs me massively here. I remember the hits being very present around the late 90s/early 2000s and finding (Hey You) What's That Sound kind of annoying... they never grabbed me hugely at that time, and while it was mostly fairly enjoyable I can still see why.
Enjoyable, but each song went on a bit too long. 3.
liked it more than I thought I would
Alles i allem denn doch Abgrundet uf 3 Bravo-heftli
Cool album, some really good sampling on this with good beats that make you want to hit up a disco club in GTA 4 and bust a move or two. I didn't love every song, but I liked about half of them a lot. I like the 8bit feel of a lot of it and overall the album is really solid. I've never heard of this guy or this album. Another solid find in the 1001 album crate dig. The album closer was great and this album has a very fresh feel that you could tell the artist was having a lot of fun making it.
Little too long.
Fun album! I loved this time. 90s into early 00’s was so fuggin fun!
What a vibe. Definite track suit music
This would be a great album for mindless house-cleaning.
On my catch-up tour of the list, this presents with more dance tracks than the usual. Made me want to move so added a couple tracks to songs I might walk to to get the heart rate up. Listened before? N Saved tracks? N Favorite tracks? Hey You What's That Sound, Take a Little Time ⭐⭐ ⭐ Grooving 3 stars
hahahah, this was fun! not sure if i'd revisit it, but it was definitely a worthwhile listen. i liked the album's radio that came on afterwards too. good to just listen to while working or just getting some things done.
Good for a genre that I don’t really vibe with.
Strange one. Some really great dance tracks and some really lame and repetitive pop songs. Has been done much better, especially around its time.
Some fun and funky tunes. Jaques Your Body Makes me Sweat, About funk, and Music makes you lose control are the standouts for me. The first track is just a bummer for some reason, almost turned me off the entire album. I'll likely pop this back on at some point.
Intressant, men aning repetitivt och saknar känsla. Ingen jag vill lyssna länge på
In the right dance setting
Good EDM at times.
Not bad techno pop - but a lot of the songs were very repetitive, which was super annoying.
Loved the big beat / mid 90s sound. Some of it is a bit bland, some of it is great. Never listened to it before but was surprised how good it was. Love the cover art!
Not bad
Of the 20 songs on the 2 discs, only 9 were available to hear on Spotify in the US.
- Classics that I recognise - Production tight - Balanced and very well mixed - Breadth of motif is interesting, lots of general stacking and repetition - second disc is far more recognisable
So many random background songs I forgot I knew
I like the beats. This one made me want to move, though the vocals were pretty repetitive. Adding Mdc vendredi to my upbeat instrumentals playlist for doing deep work and Sometimes to my Deezer favorites. Apparently he worked with Scissor Sisters on Night Work and Magic Hour, so he gets bonus points from me for that. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Sometimes, Mdc vendredi, Hey you what's that sound? My ratings are kind of based on general vibes and how many tracks I save to my Deezer profile -- ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.
It was alright.
Oh well, I had a 17-album run of music other than generic, unremarkable, completely forgettable techno, so I suppose I was due. Ten thousand techno albums have been released just this year that were this good or better. This wasn’t bad. It just was the 400th techno album on this list, which all basically sound the same. “But this wasn’t techno! It was ambient breakbeat house acid chill dub synth electro jungle trance!!! Duh!” Shut up nerd. I was born in the 70’s. If it’s made on a computer, it’s techno. “This was actually made on a…” SHUT UP NEEEEERD!!!!!!
Kul album. Not really what I listen to ali vv cool tehno/edm
An interesting one, definitely too long but an album I think is entirely mood dependent. If I had been listening to this while doing nothing it would have likely grated me. Luckily it caught me in a good mood as I was cleaning so the first half at least was a vibe, but it did start to drag. Some interesting stuff, would definitely say it was ahead of its time but can't say its effect on the musicsphere was incredibly positive with the amount of trash euro-pop that came after. Soft Machine is an underated tune though, really cool beat and interesting production on that one!
You know, I didn't think it was that bad. There's too much of this on here but I don't mind it.
thoughts: this feels like a weird missing link, a bridge between 90s eurodance and 00s indie electronica. it isn’t really great at either, but there are things about each they do okay with. actually, the parts where they go further back into more cold synth-y 80s vibes might be the best stuff on this album. songs: “music makes you lose control”, “hypnotise”, “about funk” rating: 5.7/10
A few of these had my head bopping along to the music. Not something I usually like, but this was a fun listen. My favorites were Music Makes You Lose Control and Soft Machine.
Fine? An odd choice and of it's time but the singles still go. Can remember this from when it came out and seemed slight then, good for him for his rightful success with Madonna and Kylie
Electronic music that sounds like it was groundbreaking when it was first released. Now it sounds like what you hear when you walk through a casino in Las Vegas.
Never heard of it, which is always a bad sign. It might have been revolutionary when it was released but now it sounds like vast amounts of stuff. It's okay if you like that kind of thing.
listened to a couple of tracks, not my thing tbh. heard worse thouth
Actually a pretty nice album, I enjoy it more because I'm already a fan of electro house and that is always a plus. I think my biggest issue with this one is that some songs can just be in one ear out the other type electronic music, but it's fun while its on
Second half of the album genuinely hurt my ears. There was some bad, some mid and some good songs. The ups and downs were very noticable. Favourite Song: Sometimes Honourable Mention: Hypnotise
i enjoyed this, a solid 3 imo. Good dance album
Some catchy parts, and also some more eh parts. The catchy parts I really vibed with. Repetition is used well here
I think this album caught me on the wrong day
It’s EDM. I enjoyed the first track, but then this got really old really fast. If I were in a club and any of these songs came on I wouldn’t mind dancing to them, but to sit down and listen to the entire album at once is not all that enjoyable.
A few good jams, a bit repetitive
Me giving an electronic album 3 stars is the equivalent of any other genre of album getting 5 stars. Never heard of this before, which is probably not that shocking.
One good song. Most of it is not available or is too weird. 3/5
A bit repetitive, but not annoyingly so. Good background music. Sadly, it took me a full minute to realize he's opening a pop top can on the cover. I bet it's a can of whoop-ass dance tracks.
A fun listen, but nothing that truly stood out. I enjoyed listening to the album, but don't think I will revisit it/add it to a playlist.
Quite the time capsule we've got going on here. Had some "funky fresh beats" but not something I'd consider everyday listening.
Rating: 6/10 Sounds like a Daft Punk rip-off but honestly still pretty good. Half the songs were very enjoyable and the other half meh.
Pretty much every songs consists of a very repetitive vocal sample and some pretty generic rhythm on top of it. It's not bad, and there are some good songs here, but overall, this is a collection of probably the most generic electo house tracks I've heard. Fine but extremely basic and repetitive.
90s/00s Electronic Dance. Paar Banger. Viele nicht so
Całkiem ciekawe. Takie lekkie elektro, disco i nie wiadomo co. 3/5
Strange experience, but not as bad as expected.
favorites: hypnotise, damaged people Eh, I liked the vibes but didn't get any sense of cohesion.
Fine. Whatever. Too long again.
This album is fine, but I find it to be very unremarkable, especially compare to so much other great electronic music released around the same time from The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Moby, Underworld, and many others.
Better than most of the Electronica on this list.
Some good songs and some rubbish songs but it was an alright electronic album.
It was all right. Some of it had a disco sound which I didn’t love, but a few of the songs were really good! Four of the songs were blocked out on Spotify. Liked the edm sound. Huge variation in the song styles.
Fængende melodier og catchy grooves. Men samtidig har jeg svært ved at se storheden i albummet.
It all sounded the same to me
I am shocked. Why did I enjoy this so much? This is so very fun. Absolutely reeks of the late 90’s in the best way. The album cover is awful, I love it. Not a fan of Disco II Disco. Favorite songs were Music Makes You Lose Control, Hey You What’s That Sound?, About Funk, and Sometimes.
Not my cup of tea, really. But also, I listened to the whole album and enjoyed many of the cuts. Something new every day....
you know, it's ok, the cover I started hating but it's now kinda goated Will I listen to again: 14%
i dont know if this is awful or if its pretty good. for now, it sounds pretty good
Extremely fine. I'm not the biggest fan of "dance" music, but this is peppy and decent.
Bleep bleep, weeble blew schlang bleep. Mildly annoying pop house. I think he said it best when he said,"Music makes you lose control, control, control. Music makes you lose control (control, control, control, control, control) Music makes you lose control, control, control. Music makes you lose control (control, control, control, control, control) Music makes you lose control, control, control. At first listen I can't really see how this would have been cutting edge in 1999. That being said, super fun and a very fun/silly 2000s feel that electronica has lost since
Meh. Too much for a workday.
Sounds like the PlayStation 2 loading screen half the time but some decent beats. Don't think I'll be returning to this but nice to break up the mix.
This album kicked off with 2 bangers, then the third song was a fast skip with how bad the vocals were. The rest of the album was just kind of towing the line of mid and decent, with at least one other song I skipped.
Absolutely genre-defining, some absolute tunes on this one
Funky quack quack
Hit and miss but surprised how much I enjoyed this on the whole. Love "Take a Little Time" Hate "From: Disco To: Disco"
Mischung aus Tunes und sehr nervigen Samples
1999. Kinda fun electo club music
This was OK. It really sounds like it belongs in the movie Hackers and has nods to Daft Punk as well.
This had some cool bass. Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 2/5
I was quite keen to hear this again after 20+ years. Couldn't find the whole album on my streaming service but managed to track down 10 of the tunes on YT. Not as strong as I remember tbh. Not aged particularly well. Some good moments but in the main I found the production a bit wishy-washy.
Given the reviews I was worried but I thought this alright
Ok this is kind of cool mostly because it went beyond my expectations. The chance of revisiting is slim at most, however.
Actually pretty enjoyable and as noted for why it’s on this list, ahead of its time for 1999 (weren’t we all!)
Cool to see where so many samples originated
3- Stars (7/15)
Bitchin' but a little repetitive, I get that's the style though. solid
Lots of classic beats. I recognized lots of samples to be used by future artists. Solid!
Pretty cool 90s dance music. Some great jams in here.
This is a fun enough album with some good production. There's a few tracks and moments that really remind me of Daft Punk, which is a bit of a knock against this album. Favorite track: "Hypnotise"
Daft punk only less fun. Casual electronic dance music, some of it is enjoyable. However , nothing grabs me, short of few catchy riffs.
Simultaneously sounds modern and dated at the same time, Sometimes +2
first couple of songs are great, rest is just ok
I generally dislike dance music because it often feels soulless, empty, and obnoxiously repetitive. This album doesn't avoid those things entirely, but I'll give it credit for at least trying to vary things from one song to the next. Most of the songs have vocals in them, which also helps when it's giving me something to focus on besides the loops. "Take a little time" stands out mainly thanks to the vocal performance from Shannon, for example, and you sure couldn't call her singing soulless. The album also gets points for not having too many songs that run over 6 minutes. I wouldn't say I liked it, and sure wouldn't have heard it without this project, but compared to other similar albums I've heard it's fine.
If you like never ending loops, repetition, and enjoy 'upbeat' monotony, this is the album for you. Did I enjoy this album? Not really. Did I hate this album? Not really. Would I listen to this again? Not of my own freewill There's a strong foundation here of what could be used and enhanced with layering of differing sounds and contrasting transitions. 2.6/5 (TBH)
Helt okända för mig och utanför min comfort zone. Men kul och intressant med bra låtar och skojiga ljud. Kanske lite ostigt men jag kan nog återkomma 😁
Middle of the road electronica, didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Tracks did blend together a bit
These were some ok beats. An idea is proposed, explored and on to the next one. You can hear some of the modern edm in this but a bit cheerier than it is now. Despite that the songs do get repetitive within themselves at times.
Don't think I've been put off more by an album cover (those rings, that giant digital watch, those skyscrapers, that car, those headphones, that holy light emanating from a fucking can of Pepsi! - eugh, eugh, eugh). Music much better than anticipated. Less Euro-dance-pop than I feared. More of a fun electro vibe. Can see the lineage to Justice. Can't give anything with that cover more than three stars though.
Better than the album cover lead me to believe.
Fun? Yes. Good? Ehhhhhh
This was equal parts interesting and tedious, as it introduced a new sound/rhythm and then repeated it to death.
Seems like decent dance music. Not lots of fun to just listen to, though.
Haha I’m clearly in the minority but I kinda liked this album. I’m rounding up cuz eff the haters. 2.5/5
Aged but I fw it
Maybe it was cool at the time, maybe it’s influential, but there’s a kid in Brazil who can make all of these in 30 seconds. It’s okay (2/3)
Nice beats Persönlich find ich's 0 tanzbar aber trotzdem nicht schlecht
What are we doing here Robert
Middle of the road for me, but I can see where a lot of famous samples came from. Happy to hear Jacques You Body again <3

He's also won three Grammys. Kudos to him for that! As for this album, it's not bad, good enough to break up the monotony after all the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Youngs.
Decent but unspectacular
Ну..... Да. Не моë, может повезëт и получится послушать
более эклектично чем кажется по одной-двум песням (или человек который это вконтакте собрал прикололся и добавил своих треков), но интересно
5.5/10 Dont really think this needs to be on the list but I enjoyed listening to some of the tracks. Highlights: Brothers Hypnotise Soft Machine
Got the gist in the first half. Some good song, some bad
Ok, it just happened...
3*
Surprisingly enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The stand out song for me was "Music Makes You Lose Control" - mainly because I LOVED the guitars in this track.
Catchy album!!
This is a hard 3.5 stars. Almost 4. Kind of fun electro pop album. Not a bad listen. Half the album was missing on spotify, something going on there.
I love the full circle moment of hearing “Music Make you Lose Control” and understanding where the Missy Elliot sample came from. I can tell this album probably pioneered a lot of modern music electronic beats but I still feel like it falls a little flat. However I did feel like there were some ear worms in the bunch.
With your favorite tracks like “Jacque your body makes me sweat.” This is basically the album that plays to the baby dance from It's Always Sunny.
Not my usual style but very interesting
Amazingly shit idk
Quite enjoyed listening to this while doing some work, and Jacques your body was a particular highlight! However, once again I would not really choose to listen to this type of music, but I did enjoy some of the vibes
My intial impression of this album was pretty critical, working away in a quiet office I made it as far as 'From Disco To Disco' before I switched it off. Very repetitive and largely uninspiring. However. This evening I found myself with absolutely nothing to do except housework and I thought I'd stomach the rest of the album, it's also important to mention that over the weekend I got myself a new coffee machine and have since been uber-caffeinated. Now don't get me wrong I think From: Disco To: Disco is probably the stupidest song I've ever heard, I sort of hate that I love it, but it absolutely banged this evening, I've just been bouncing around doing the dishes going DISCOTODISCO DISCOTODISCO DISCOTODISCO FROMDISCOTODISCO FROMDISCOTODISCO I couldn't tell you a single word in the song Jacques You Body, it's total nonsense, but that's the MotM for me, shanktgshanktshanklllmshank tshankllmshank m-m-mshank baddenadays d-baddeny day 😎
It’s not groundbreaking but it’s still really fun. The only valid reason to hate it is because it’s too French.
Fun, quirky, upbeat. Cool electro pop record with some familiar sample-takes and phrases. Good sounds and vibes on this one.
In terms of sound a very enjoyable listen, many different patterns and concepts which don't bore the listener. Nothing much more to say than that is was fun listen, but not something I'd pick up more. Favorite track: Sometimes. Overall score: 6.8/10
This was good in parts. A bit 90s daft punk - hypnotise, sometimes, jaques were decent. Couldn't get onbaord with disco to disco. Didn't listen to disc 2.
I liked it better than expected. Too long though ;)
A jaunty number for a Sunday morning. Not my usual thing but it was bright, and enjoyable.
Pretty fun. My favorite songs were the instrumentals.
Better than I thought it was gonna be actually
A funky album for sure, but not one I vibed with too much
Not really my style. But very danceable and fun.
Best song is actually on the bonus disc. The Club Mix of Jacques Your Body is marvellous.
Super good, Not terrible, but honestly if it was in a skate video i would probably like it more, too french for me to connect with.
Beh, I'unno. I don't think I can call it "terrible," exactly, but at the same time, my biggest takeaway from this album is that it sounds like... Y'know, either royalty-free house or the soundtrack to some low-rent PlayStation 1 game. It's not anything I wanna spend too much time ragging on. Honestly, the most I feel like the most I got out of this album was the one synth on "Disco II Disco" that sounds like a penguin tryna do a Gumi-chan laugh. I had a good time chuckling at that... I suppose the only other thought I had in mind throughout the album was... Well, I hate talking too much about "What's this doing here instead of this?" I don't feel like that's a terribly good use of anyone's time on here — or at the very least, it's not something that should factor into a final score. And so we're clear, it's still not a factor, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend a lot of the runtime stuck on a thought I had yesterday: "Why **isn't** Daft Punk's DISCOVERY on this list?" Like, it's just curious to me that this faux-French house can get in a revision of this book, but Daft Punk's DISCOVERY can't. That, apparently, isn't something the list author(s) think I should hear before I die. It's just odd to me is all. 'Cuz ultimately, like... This is a pretty unenthusiastic 3. As background music it works, but I have so many other albums to reach for first over this. Jus'... I'unno. I'll forget about it by tomorrow, just you wait and see.
So much better than I was expecting, i might have actually enjoyed some of this.
Decent beeps and boops!
I’m not sure how many dance albums it’s going to take before I go insane. They all sound VERY similar, so it does drive me up the wall a bit. I’m glad that I do actually have things to say about this particular record though. Instead of focusing on the alternative dance scene of the UK, I visited France and their house and electropop sound. And after today, I think I’ve fully decided France is where the best dance music comes from. That is just my opinion, of course. But most of the dance music I fondly remember or really enjoy originated from that place. And although I don’t love this, I think I could add it to that list. It’s not half bad. I’ll always hold Discovery as the most landmark dance album ever released. Because the way everything was structured and pieced together for that record is next level. There’s simply nothing like it. It consistently displays the thing I look for most in a good dance album. Which is elements that, at first, are seemingly unrelated, but once paired with everything else going on in the song, create an incredibly fulfilling listening experience. One that justified sitting through a 5 to 6 minute long song. This album doesn’t always do that, but when it really hits the mark, it kind of knocks the ball out of the park. The best songs are actually the ones featuring guest singers. Since their vocal performances are really good, and definitely elevate an instrumental that would not be enough on its own. The other highlights aren’t anything to write home about, but still decent. And the worst is either boring, repetitive or feels too disjointed. Who knows if I’ll ever come back to this. Probably not. But I’m glad this still gave me something worthwhile to talk about. Rating: 6/10
I was surprised that I could actually listen to this. Some of the beats were basic, but the album kind of grew on me.
Ugh. I like this but really want to give it a 3.5. I am a bit of a fan of the repetitive techno genre but it does get a bit samey eventually. What to do? Think it’s gotta be a 3
this album has some real peaks and troughs of quality in my opinion, in some songs there is some real top notch production, but theres also a few songs that are just repetitive and honestly very boring. hard to put a rating on this because it is a bit all over the place.
tecno mhe,
Don't usually like electronic music but this has rhythmic and vocal interest that keeps you engaged. As with all electronica I've listened to, it does lack feeling in general and tends to the repetitive but somehow it keeps me engaged. Worth a listen and I might even listen again ... proper head-banging music!
Eh
After 4 or 5 songs I was surprised that I was considering giving it a 4* as it was really enjoyable... But then it suffered from the usual house issue of being repetitive and one paced so got a bit bored
This one grew on me as I listened; I have the opposite experience with most electronica.
