Reviews (page 3 of 7)

I love the use of synths in this album. Really gives it a unique identity making it weird but interesting to listen to. Definitely need to take a closer listen to as there is so much going on. Another point to highlight was the introspective nature of the album having a lot of lyrics which I could relate to.

I didn't mind this. A rather twinkly, frictionless pop-electronica that rather floated out of the speakers. Neil Tennant's voice is one I've often considered on the 'small' side, but it fits the sound perfectly here. Quite atmospheric despite the fact I've made it sound a little powder puff. Just about scrapes four stars for me.

I was not familiar with their work past the 80s but this was a very good album and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The sad album

Doesn't reach the euphoric heights of their other albums quite so often. This is noteworthy for its excellent use of more somber tones. Feels burdened by the weight of crisis even as many portions of the rave scene were dancing to forget the pain. Alas, a couple songs here are so incredibly dated it's hard to pin this anywhere else than slightly below their 80's peak but it's still pretty solid.

I just love these boys and find such comfort in their vibe. Their combined voices are balm for what ails me. I'm glad they are still making and performing music for young and old.

I continue to be reminded that I apparently love British New Wave from the 80's and early 90's. 4/5

"Behaviour" is the fourth studio album by the English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. This album is lauded as the Pet Shop Boys' best work - very easy listening.

Joyous pop.

Great dance music

I liked this one more than their 93 album. Very easy listening. Rating: 3.7

HEY!! The Pet Shop Boys. Boy if just the name doesn't take me back to the early days of my life in Montana. I remember JoElllen's older boys were into Euro synthpop. Of course I never knew it was called that back in the day. I don't think I ever owned an album of theirs. Let's check this out. I guess you could say that that's when my love for dance/edm music was born. Between them and Saint Etienne. Wow this was from 1990! So this came out when I was in Montana already. I'm liking it so far! Something about their voice and the synth sounds that is just so neat. I like the overall vibe of this. Not too pop-y, and has a nice swaying mellowness to it. A bit sultry I guess is the word. 4 stars.

why does everyone hate the pet shop boys

As always: good vibes only when the Pet Shop Boys are in town.

Behaviour is to its core a rather sad listening experience. That doesn’t change the fact, that I always leave the Pet Shop Boys in a good mood - depressing lyrics or not.

Quality album. Inoffensive. Easy to listen to.

It indeed is kinda depeche mody. Idk why, but it also has a bit of elton john vibe to it. Who knows, maybe I'm crazin' Likelike

Enjoyed it

The hit factory do it again. I imagine that instead of writing a weekly shopping list, Lowe and Tennant just turn 'milk, eggs and toothpaste' into a six minute, joyous, melancholy epic. The combination of their vocals and the music feels completely unique and hits a part of your brain and heart that no one else can. To finish all this with Jealousy, one of the saddest, most heart-felt songs in their back catalogue, is just awe-inspiring. The good thing about this is that you know this is nowhere near as good as they get.

Unexpectedly brilliant, loved the relaxed, sort of chillwave sound. Only hangup is that it could've been more eventful to sustain repeat listens.

pet shop boys is nice.

I've always liked this band and somehow missed this record, though the "big hits" ring a bell, I didn't own a copy of this album. Good stuff!

This was really good

I really like this album! The soft singing against the synth pop, the poetic lyrics sung with a lot of space so they aren't lost. The unison octive vocals, with great melodies that don't seem stock. I'm so impressed! I feel like I'm hearing something really new, even though it's 30 years old. I didn't know this band back in the day, kind of a shame. Got you now. I actually listened to all the songs. Being Boring is my favorite - I had to stop what I was doing and listen. That doesn't happen often.

I enjoy the Pet Shop Boys a lot. This album felt mellower and maybe more mature than the others I've listened to.

Right up my street somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4

Good throwback

This is like the easy listening of synthpop. Enjoyable, light, chill.

"Behaviour" by Pet Shop Boys, released in 1990, marks a departure from the duo's trademark synth-pop sound, embracing a more introspective and subdued approach. The album showcases Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe's mature songwriting and production skills, delving into themes of love, loss, and introspection. Tracks like "Being Boring" and "So Hard" demonstrate a newfound depth and emotional resonance, while still retaining Pet Shop Boys' signature electronic soundscapes. The album's minimalist production allows Tennant's introspective lyrics to shine, creating a melancholic yet captivating atmosphere. While "Behaviour" may lack the immediate pop hooks of their earlier work, its understated elegance and emotional depth make it a standout in Pet Shop Boys' discography. Earning a solid 4/5, "Behaviour" is a testament to the duo's artistic evolution and willingness to explore new sonic territories.

Enjoy the sound and vocals from Pet Shop Boys

Each morning after Sunblest Feel the benefit, mental arithmetic I waited by the staff room In time for benediction Living a law just short of delusion When we fall in love there's confusion This must be the place I waited years to leave To our voices nobody's listening We shiver in the rain by the touchline Then a coach ride to the station "My lord, the carriage awaiteth!" Living a law just short of delusion When we fall in love there's confusion This must be the place I waited years to leave This must be the place I waited years to leave And how How long? Not bad. 4/5

I liked the vibes more than I was expecting to. Chill, quiet, reminded me of the XX in some parts. Incredibly modern production I thought. Sounds like it could have come out in the past five years, not in 1990. I will likely relisten to this one!

great and really classy

I'm familiar with the Pet Shop Boys, but I hadn't heard any of these songs before. Solid album

PSB: Eher schon ein allgemeines Zeit-Gefühl als nur Musik einer Zeit. Ikonisch.

Chill album - nice to have in the background. Nothing outstanding, but pleasant enough and I like its overall atmosphere. 3.5 rounded up.

Surprisingly nice.

I've had to sit through so much mediocre synth shit on this project so far and this is just leagues ahead of all the others

fave track: nervously

loved it

Surprisingly strong for Pet Shop Boys, I think there was a clearer charm to this one.

Surprisingly better than Actually. Chill. Liked it.

Quite cool sounds, I’ve always though I wouldn’t like this style of music but first listen was enjoyable and somewhat relaxing

Quite pleasant, but nothing breathtaking, except for " Jealousy" which deserves more fame.

A surprisingly introspective, thoughtful album on growing up, taking responsibility and gaining perspective. Lots of great tracks, maybe not so much to dance to but to relax to, at any rate the synths and base are fantastic. Great melodies. Obviously an album from confident artists

Gloriously gay with such distinctive production

Pet shop boys reivents the wheel.. Heh.. vitut.. jatkaa samaa paskaa kuin ennenkin.. Nyt 90 luku lähempänä edelleen ajan vivahteet vain suolana hyvälle musiikille..

Bronze Age Pervert!!!

Pretty enjoyable listen, even if the sound is a bit dated. Don't really need to listen again, but I enjoyed this.

Great! Really liked this a lot.

Another great album from Pet Shop Boys. I've really appreciated diving into them over the course of this book. This one seems a bit more lyrically focused which I dig.

It's melancholy. Perhaps a bit too melancholy for me (which with Leonard Cohen amongst my top rated is saying something). It's still brilliant, but you'll probably put on Very or Please before this for that hit of pure smartarse pop. But it has Jealousy and Being Boring and is still better than 90% of the albums on this list. I almost feel bad giving it four stars.

Pretty cool, I imagine a cult classic

Elektronisk synth pop, 90’er, rimelig nice vibe

They have been growing on me recently. Another one I didn’t have time for as a teen that turns out was pretty good.

unfortunately the first song on this album is so good that the rest almost pales in comparison. if you take out that first one though still a solid album. easy 4

I like it. Very techno and house.

This was an interesting listen, I'm quite big into my synthwave/retrowave and think the last few years have really had some great stuff come out. Alot of this probably has to do with the PSB but I've never actually sat down and listened to it. It's a tricky one to grade as I do like it, but I just feel if I wanted to listen to this style of music I'd listen to so many other artists...

Quite the change from their previous masterpieces, but still very good in its own way.

<sad synthesiser noise> A BITTERSWEET MASTERPIECE

My last remaining PSB album on this project, and easily my favorite of the bunch. The synth here is heavy and yet chill at the same time. It just has such a "cool" about it. The "heaviness" may come from what seems to be a slight lean toward industrial synth on this album. In any case, I really enjoy it. I don't have many thoughts on this album, but it was a great listen! 3.5-ish getting rounded up!

I like the pet shop boys I quite like this album Being Boring is the highlight. I'm going for a 4/5

"I need to listen to more Pet Shop Boys," I say to myself... Knowing that I actually listen to them quite a bit. But a fan though I may be, I hadn't listened to this one before. Look, these 2 are STILL making music, they're prolific af, I haven't heard most of their music tbh. But yeah, this is great. As expected.

Very calm and fun.

Pet Shop Boys are always great. Gold standard synth pop.

Being Boring- The intro track brings a chill vibe, but a bit sullen, as the topic is about a couple who repeatedly warned about being reckless but he claims that they were just living life the supposed way (7.5) This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave- A sad song about how he wishes that he wasn't placed in this world which he worked so ling to get out of (6.5) To Face The Truth- The singer loves his partner very much but she doesn’t return the attention, and he starts to comes to terms with it(8) How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously?- The singer it talking to a famous person who doesn’t appeal to the public, calling her foolish and claiming no one will take her seriously (7.5) Only The Wind- A song about how the wind can suddenly start and take somebody by surprise, but he doesnt get scared as it dies down as soon as it starts (8) My October Symphony- A song about describing the festivities in October and what it means to the singer (9) So Hard- The singer talks about a relationship where both of them are unfaithful and not committed but he wants to try and fix it, but its just so hard (7.5) Nervously- The singer talks about a girl he likes and she notices, but he doesn’t to anything because he is too shy to make a move on her (6.5) The End Of The World- The singer is now facing a broken relationship, and says that no matter what happens his world is not over (8.5) Jealousy- His partner betrays his trust, and tries to make it up, but he cannot see her reasons because of his jealousy (7.5) Summary: A new wave album, with some chill and poppy beats. A new listening experience for me, and one of my best reactions to such an album so far; OVERALL: 7.7/10

I quite like the Pet Shop Boys songs that I’ve heard. Their cover of Always On My Mind (not on this album) is a banger. It makes me think of my dad because I remember him dusting off some old records as a kid and showing me Pet Shop Boys and Erasure. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Nervously, Jealousy I quite enjoyed this. It definitely feels like a time capsule of the 80’s as music doesn’t tend to sound like this any more (I miss the overuse of orchestral crashes in music!). There were no bad songs here in my opinion. Some were certainly stronger than others, but everything was still enjoyable. I can imagine the vocals being a little jarring for some people as the singer dies have a bit of an odd voice, but I liked it.

Interesting and fun sounds, was unsure about the vocals … was going to rate a 3 but then with My October Symphony, So Hard, and The End of the World…. solid 4 for me

Trademark vocals and classic synths doin it for me

Knowing nothing going in, I came out mostly swept off my feet by the melodic melancholy and emotional resonance of these decidedly-adult synth-pop soundscapes.

The Berlin Wall crumbles. The USSR folds. It’s the height of Madchester and yet these two release the most melancholy club kid record ever. I loved most of it. Bonus points for having Axel F impresario as the producer. I don’t understand the criticism of these guys as “wimpy”. I just think others don’t get them. Sad for those others.

I like it. Mostly chill, introspective album.

This album is a dark atmospheric new wave album. The music makes extensive use of sequencers and drum machines, synthesized horns, orchestral hits, and even a choir in parts, and includes 80s R&B and club/dance music elements throughout. The vocals themselves are the focus and the nasally delivery soaked in reverb cut through the music. Though the elements on this album have been heard before, the Pet Shop Boys skillfully bring them together in a way only they can.

Great album

More Pet Shop Boys? I like them fine, at least the hits, but I've never taken the time to listen to a whole album (except the last one I was served) and am certainly not familiar with Behaviour, So Hard is the only song I recognize -- great song. Wow! This is a great album. Beautiful, chill, I love the vibe. Much more of a mood piece, super relatable. Thank you list, I'm glad I heard this album before I died.

A good listen - 80s party electronic vibe

I liked this more than I anticipated. It sounded VERY '80s (as I expected from Pet Shop Boys) but the songs were well-written and compelling. A lot of beautiful melodies. I think this is the type of album that would continue to unravel with additional listens.

This is the kind of CD you’d get to show off your HiFi system in the early 90s

This fucking slaps. Can see the influence on modern indie especially groups like Destroyer.

Really Good 8/10

Not my favorite Pet Shop Boys, but still nice.

Listened Before? N I know some of these songs from the past, but this is a little different from PSB's dancier things they released earlier in their career. Much more mellow. They claim it was influenced by Violator and I believe it. I liked it but longed for some of their harder dance beats the whole time. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Being Boring

I've been listening to Pet Shop Boys' singles from the '80's for as long as I can remember. I love "West End Girls" and "Opportunities," but their rendition of "Always on my Mind" is my absolute favorite of theirs. I've never listened to a whole album of theirs, and I'm completely unfamiliar with their work from 1990 and on. That should suffice as an lead-in to the fact that this album was completely different from what I expected to hear. Gone are the synth pop dance tunes of their earlier discography, replaced with a smoother and more subdued sound that was becoming present as the eighties became the nineties. Gone are the dancey beats, replaced with silky synth-pop ballads. The vocals on this album are great, and Tennant still shines as one of the best singers of his synth-forward contemporaries. Musically, Pet Shop Boys do a great job of keeping the uniqueness of their sound, while changing with the times. This isn't the sort of album I would listen to again (their dance hits will still stay in heavy rotation for me), but I can appreciate this album as being a great work.

A pretty good album, but certainly not essential.

Pretty flippin' great. Nice U2 cover. 4 stars.

Electro pop like a robot from 1984

So very British

Love PSB so not hard to listen to. Not my favourite album of theirs but still very enjoyable. It's perfect dance pop with an intelligent ironic slant. Complex layers of co-ordinated sound.

I liked this, but I wanted a few more upbeat songs-- this album is pretty ballad-heavy.

For a duo fresh out of the imperial phase, Pet Shop Boys sure do have a knack for remaining dignified and composed as opposed to looking in complete shambles. Behaviour is Chris and Neil at their most reflective, their most vulnerable and their most (for lack of a better term) mature. Remaining as ambitiously baroque as ever, but with loss and melancholy on their tails, the duo would enter the 90s not as kings of their field but as astute observers of an increasingly changing landscape. Favorites: Being Boring, This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave, To Face the Truth, How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously?, So Hard, Nervously, Jealousy.

enjoyable. i need to listen more.

Pretty enjoyable, mostly chill vibes

Great dance album

Dang Bri'ish people adding u's to words

Surprisingly enjoyable

This was an awesome album. REALLY unexpected. The 2nd song was so fucking good I was legit shocked. I was really just lost in this album and soaked it in. So hard is a fantastic song. Jealousy is a great closer to this record. This would probably get a 5 on the relisten. Awesome! 8/10

Sympas mais parfois ça manque un peu de peps. 3,5/5

Enjoyed

Honestly too new for my tastebuds didnt hate just not sure i have heard enough of it😅

Bellos los sintetizadores, bellas las letras. El synthpop de ahorita tiene mucho que agradecerle a Pet Shop Boys.

The video for being boring is very erotic! The song is also good. The album overall is a bit uneven. Some very catchy tunes, but some are less "danceable."

Dark and ominous.

I've listened to Pet Shop Boys previously, and I can tell by this point they have mastered their signature Synthpop sound. I might have to come back to this to see if I think more highly of it due to how many quality dance bops it has. Favorites: "Being Boring", "To Face the Truth", "So Hard"

Pet Shop Boys are very much in my musical wheelhouse so I was excited about this album. I’m not sure what it is about PSB, though, because they just don’t do it for me. I listened to a mix of their stuff recently and just didn’t connect with it, much like this album. I feel like they take themselves too seriously or something. I did really like the song “To Face the Truth.” I listened to this a second time and liked it a little more, but was still overall left feeling “meh.”

You know...it's not my favorite album on this list, but I get the appeal. The aggressively 90s synth is delightful and I really thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't say I'd re-listen to every single track, but the majority were enjoyable. I can't complain about this one, it was genuinely fun. Fave track: This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave. Has a wonderful driving-down-the-road sound to it.

Neat 90s electronica.

I thought it was beautiful.

like a more moody bowie

Shit slaps

Sylt med smör på bröd fr 🥖 🧈

Synth dance with a certain atmospheric sensibility. I does make me wish the orchestral stab preset was never invented

Banger... inget är lika bra som första sången dock.

Tää on must PSB:n paras levykokonaisuus. Siinä missä aikasemmilla levyil on megahittejä (its a sin, domino dancing jne), tää keskittyy jotenkin ehkä aikuisempaan ja vakavampaan ilmaisuun. Miten sitä vielä kuvailis, ehkä tää on vähemmän överi. Tykkään kovasti. Ihan siitä 3 ja 4 tähtee välistä. Menköön tällä kertaa neljän puolelle koska koko bändi on hienoo poppii, jolla on iso kulttuurillinen merkitys. 4/5

Onpas hyvä. Ihanaa myöhäisillan melankoliapoppia. Ehkä pari biisiä turhan imeliä, mutta pääosin nautin tyylistä ja soundeista. Being Boring on kyl mielettömän kova, olin joskus kuullut ja onneksi löytyi taas. PSB:n isot hitit ei oo ollut suurimpia suosikkeja niin tää oli kiva yllätys. Alkoi kaduttaa, että kävelin aikoinaan Flowssa kylmästi ohi.

Another pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed this one. I had always heard the name Pet Shop Boys, but never knew what kind of music they played. I guess I'm a fan now!

I had heard of the Pet Shop Boys, but wasn’t familiar with their music. I loved this. I loved the vocals, but I especially loved the music and the use of the synth (is that a thing? A synth? If not, don’t @ me). Kind of like a more lounge UB40 vibe without being cringe 😬 I really dug this. Being Boring could literally be my theme song (except I am literally boring lol). Great album!

Daft Punk i gamle dager. Sanger med mer sang, og gammel tekno, men allikevel kult nok

Good music, chill vibes

Pretty nice tunes. Not the biggest fan of his voice, but the music slaps!

A bit different to the usual PSB, and an intriguing album.

Enjoyable :)

Let’s try…“My October Symphony“ kommt schon einmal im richtigen Monat. Herzenswarme 3.7

Looking forward to this one. Know some PSB hits but never explored them. After listen: Not exaclty what I was expecting but very danceable and good energy. Lacked some “catchy ness”

Wow, another album that I had not listened to previously that I really like. Classic new wave sound. Favorite songs: Being Boring, This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave, How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously, So Hard. Solid 4 on this one.

Really enjoyed this laidback electronic sound and Tennant’s vocals.

Boring - reminds me of Air's tone but with an 80's backdrop. Loving the album. Definitely will want to go back.

I wouldn’t say I’m a pet shop boys fan but I liked the album I thought the songs were good and I enjoyed it 4/5

really good 9/10

i like some songs of theirs, lets see if this list picked the album with the hits or some random one. well i dont know any songs from the tracklist. okay it started i could be into this. im a liar i actually do know this first song lol they play it on the radio at work sometimes. so, im done and i quite liked it. its good. no surprise im into this i do love pop and synths and whatever else is in this. i feel pleased and satisfied, finally something truly enjoyable after all the boring rock variants ive been getting xd

Very, very british. Solid, upbeat. Not huge on the vocalist personally but the beats are good.

Not my favorite PSB work, but still good. The opening track rules.

very chill, probably would listen to it completely if the time was right.

Album has slow and relaxed tracks with a calm man's vocal and the same music.

I'm not surprised if I'm the only one from our group, but I actually really enjoy the Pet Shop Boys and have listened to their Best Of quite a few times. I'm not really sure why they picked this album, my couple favorite Pet Shop Boys songs aren't on it. A slight shame, but I still enjoyed it.

No soy de techno pero la verdad es que me ha gustado

Very enjoyable album from start to finish, lush sounds, great beats.

Tres bon album new age. Surprenant je m’attendais a rien vraiment car je ne connaissais pa. 4.5

GEILE BEATS ____ GEILE STIMME ___ TEXTE STARK ___ BISSCHEN VIEL EFFEKTE GEDÖNS ABER OKE __ WÜRDE ES IN EINER BAR GERNE MAL IM HINTERGRUND HÖREN __ JAWOLLL ALDER

It's too bad I thought I didn't like them in the 80s. And this album actually came out in 1990!

vnice!

A bit of a bizarre album, but enjoyed it a good bit.

Not bad :)

Verrassend awesome eigenlijk. Heel leuke popmuziek met toch beetje gravitas.

Pretty damned good

Nice album

1990: Being Boring, So Hard

9/10. had a low functioning day yesterday so im off schedule again. joy. was not lookign forward to this one since i listened to the first pet shop boys album a whiiile ago and was excruciatingly lukewarm towards it but this is great. mayb ive just grown to love that 80s sound more but i think this might just be better? shrug. mostly rly consistent, lots of cool sounds, being boring and to face the truth are probly gonna be lying-in-bed staples. the datedness is lovely and its all very pretty

ok this is cool... something I'd never actually listen to without being shown, but wow. I only remember their cover of go west as a kid, and west end girls. But this is super cruisy, tasteful etc etc. can't say I'd call it dance music, but more something to chuck on in the background while you come down haha. But it's really nice. A total 4/5.

Soothing voice. Good busy highway music.

Decent synth pop album, but lacks any true punchy tracks outside of the dance songs which didn't really land for me. The laid back songs are nice to listen do, but I could've done with more dynamic energy or memorable moments in the songs I liked more. Decent but not entirely for me. Top tracks: Being Boring, How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously, My October Symphony

Always heard the name, but this was my first Pet Shop Boys album experience. It was fine. Some cool stuff in here and some other stuff that reminded me of the music I'd hear while browsing a make up store or a fancy fashion boutique with my wife (and I mean that in a positive way). 3/5

3/5 qque passage mauvais mais le reste coule bien

Occasionally great.

6/10 - Intro hooked me in and then I found myself unexcited after what was some interesting instrumentals. An enjoyable listen but didn't strike me as remarkable.

Wow, that was boring. It must have been an exciting time back when I first heard this and thought it was pretty good. Did I need something to pass the time back then? Anyway, now it's just boring. 3/5

Some of the vocals don't do it for me but a good sounding album

I don't find this album by the Pet Shop Boys to be the best - not by a long shot. I much prefer Please and Actually above this one.

Liked it way more than I thought I would.

Such a gentle, airy record. The drum machine and created patterns are basic, but cute. The vocals are ethereal and theatrical in a way. It's very easy to listen to, but not something that really engages me or keeps me wanting more. I like it though.

I wouldn't have thought PSB had many boring albums in their discography, but I did find myself a bit bored with this one. It's perfectly fine, just lacking for a couple of proper big hits that make you want to put it back on again. Being Boring is fine, and Face The Truth and The End of The World are probably the best of the rest, but overall left me a bit flat. I'm sure they have better albums, will see if their other 2 on the generator are any better.

First two songs are great (I heard Being Boring for the first time a few weeks ago, coincidentally, and was semi-obsessed), the rest drag and lull a bit.

Great Songs: Good Songs: My October Symphony, Being Boring, How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously?, Nervously, This Must Be The Place I Waited Years to Leave Mid Songs: The End of the World, Jealousy, So Hard, Only The Wind, To Face The Truth Bad Songs:

Sounds like the transition from 80s synth to 90s electronic/dj. Not bad at all

Sounds the same throughout pretty much most of the album. I also don’t like the vocalist. 5/10 or 6/10 on a generous day.

90s electronica.

Highlights: Being Boring, Nervously, My October Symphony. In a nutshell: behavioural therapy. Didn't think Pet Shop Boys were ones to write tender love songs, only floor fillers. Yet they recorded Nervously. That's on me, because I barely remember Actually and only remember the single West End Girls. Behaviour shows its age but what saves it from being overly cringe is the lyrics. Overall: 5/10

I always forget how much I enjoy PSB until I’m listening to them. While this is a little more serious than some of their other stuff I do still quite like it. Some of it is a bit kitschy and it’s not always tonally super interesting, but still a solid listen. I debated between a 3 and 4, so I’ll split and say 3.5/5

7/10 - good light electronic pop music, more 80s than 90s, I like it

Some pretty good songs but fairly boring but not awful just not exciting

Pet Shop Boys rarely miss, and Behaviour is no exception. It’s another great album from them. While listening I felt a nice mix of emotions — it can be sad and melancholic one moment, then uplifting, happy, and even fun the next. The album flows really well between those feelings. It’s rhythmic, sleek, and beautifully produced, with those signature rich synths and elegant arrangements that the duo does so well. This record feels a bit more mature and introspective than some of their earlier work, but it still has that classic Pet Shop Boys charm. Tracks like “Being Boring,” “So Hard,” “How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously?,” and “Jealousy” are all highlights for different reasons. The production is clean and warm at the same time, and the synths sound gorgeous throughout. It’s sophisticated pop with real heart and depth. Overall, Behaviour is a very strong, consistent album. Not their flashiest, but definitely one of their best. Really enjoyable from start to finish.

Gets a tad boring after a while (despite the first song’s claims). But it has a soft, new wave smoothness to it that makes it enjoyable. Just not revolutionary.

Enjoyed it.

This was a little more maybe sophisticated is the word. But yeah, it’s pet shop boys.

I had always thought of Pet Shop Boys as a one-hit wonder. This album did little to change that opinion. Sounds like the 90s struggling to stay 80s. Meh.

Some good sounds in there but many songs a bit of a drag

Just learned they partially chose their name because they thought it sounded like the Beastie Boys…and they were somehow associated with working at a pet shop.

Another outstanding effort. Good grooves. Favorite track: This Must Be the Place I've Waited Years to Leave

I like this band; not familiar with this album. It’s pleasant and well-produced. The songs are long, and perhaps a bit too gentle (musically and lyrically) but there’s some great stuff here. Favorites; ‘October Symphony’, esp the instrumental flourishes there, ‘So Hard’, and ‘How Can You Expect’.

I like the Pet Shop Boys. Each song takes its time, and the lyrics strike the right balance between straightforward and emotional. A nice, mellow listen, though I'm not sure I could name any standout tracks.

Unmistakable sound, more to them than i had previously thought. I would listen again

Smooth, polished, generic dance-pop. I don't dislike it, it's just not my thing. Well put together and produced.

Nice pop tunes. I enjoyed this record.

Never been a fan, they’re just there in the background for the last 40 odd years. First time listening to one of their albums and was pleasantly surprised. Had a more serious sound than some of their previous singles. Enjoyed it

More mellow than I expected. Not really that catchy too.

Goes a little bit Stock Aitken Waterman in bits, but a pretty great sounding synth pop record.

If YMO and Brian Eno was a bit less interesting

Pretty smooth and sophisticated for a new wave album, fairly steady the whole way through even if it's kind of dated

had never listened to this before. im probably a casual PSB fans and wasn’t blown away by this but its not bad. wouldn’t go out of my way to listen again but wouldn’t turn it off either. now, of an Electronic album shows up here….

Sounds like an 80s movie's credit song. I wasn't really in the mood for it though.

interessting, a bit experimental stuff, sometimes a bit weird

Pretty much meh.

Pleasant enough. So Hard is very good.

This was a nice, chill surprise. No real peaks or valleys, just... smooth. I could feel it regulate my nervous system, like being pet by a giant cat. To be fair, I wasn't paying close attention to it and when I did it was a bit airporty. Still, it's pleasant.

Decent enough background music, but wouldn't listen to this on my own accord. Would it expect to hear it while at the mall. 2.5 rounded up

Pretty interesting album. Has a distinctly 90s feel that I was struggling to quantify.

Other than misspelling ‘behavior’ on the cover, this album was on the good side of OK. Not super into synth-pop, but there were a few good songs on here, balanced out with a few clunkers I did not enjoy. The beats might be the most 1990 things I’ve ever heard, they distract and make the whole album extremely dated. YMMV, but I thought this album was just alright; it’s not timeless in any way, but I get why it’s on the list. What I don’t get is why there are two more Pet Shop Boys albums on here and only the one Earth, Wind & Fire album (I actually do get it, it’s because PSB are British). Low-end 3/5

Da risentire!

bien 7

Loved 80s music and as a child the Pet Shop Boys were good but never great. Would love to give this higher marks but I wouldn't buy this on vinyl for my collection. Still, Behaviour is one of Pet Shop Boys’ most emotionally resonant and meticulously crafted albums. Released in 1990, it marks a deliberate shift away from the duo’s high‑energy synth‑pop toward something more introspective, elegant, and quietly devastating. The production—handled with a warm, analog sheen—gives the album a timeless quality that sets it apart from their more overtly electronic work. The songwriting is the real centerpiece. Tracks like Being Boring and This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave balance melancholy with sophistication, pairing Neil Tennant’s reflective lyrics with arrangements that feel both intimate and expansive. Even the more upbeat songs carry a sense of restraint, as if everything is filtered through a mature, contemplative lens. What makes Behaviour stand out is its emotional coherence. It’s not an album chasing singles; it’s a unified mood piece. Some listeners may find it subdued compared to the group’s more dance‑oriented releases, but that subtlety is exactly what gives it staying power. It’s a record that rewards repeat listens, revealing new layers of detail and feeling each time. In the Pet Shop Boys catalog, Behaviour often sits at the intersection of fan favorite and critical darling—and for good reason. It’s thoughtful, beautifully produced, and quietly bold.

Surprisingly.... boring? static?... for the Pet Shop Boys. This album just kept chugging along but it never really stood out. Like a decent score it wasn't intrusive or abrasive but never really stood on its own.

Lovely bit of synth pop. Easy to listen to. Particularly enjoyed the music behind ‘So Hard’, ‘My October symphony’ and ‘Being Boring’ were also good tracks. Would I listen to the album in full again? Likely not but I will be checking out some more pet shop boys songs following this

Just a few days after getting an album that made me realize that maybe I actually really like Pet Shop Boys, I get an album that kinda makes me pump the brakes on that realization. This one just feels like average synthpop to me; there's some synthesized choral stuff that sounds pretty cool, but the songs just aren't as good as they were on my last album of theirs.

It’s clean, controlled, and very consistent in tone, but that same consistency makes it feel a bit flat over time. The songwriting is solid, and there’s an elegance to it, but it doesn’t really evolve or challenge itself much. It’s more about maintaining a mood than building something that unfolds.

Wasn't bad

I was really enjoying the album at the beginning, then for some reason it started feeling off. Then it finished, and Depeche Mode started on the autoplay, and I realised that PSB is an undercooked DM. Like, part of that critique is in the specific sound being invoked, and part of it is purely vibes, but if you were to sit down and listen to some British-based synth-pop/electro rock why would you ever pick Pet Shop Boys over Depeche Mode? Fav tracks: Being Boring, Only the Wind, How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously

No mistaking, this is definitely the Pet Shop Boys. I like some of their songs, but then a whole album starts to sound the same after a while. Probably best to stick to greatest hits. Nothing bad warranting less than a three, so we’ll go for that. Standout track - Jealousy

Didn't mind this. Relaxing

Behaviour feels more subtle and understated than I expected. None of the individual tracks stood out strongly to me at first, but the overall atmosphere is cohesive and easy to listen to. Neil Tennant’s voice is particularly memorable, with its calm, detached tone that carries a quiet sense of melancholy. It also has a familiar feel, reminding me of Japanese pop from the late ’80s and ’90s, which made it more accessible than I expected.

I'll say this--the album definitely has a vibe and if you listen closely, there are some cool chord changes, but musically the tone is jarring at times and very much a product of it's time. What pushes it to good are the lyrics--thoughtful and poignant while being funny at times. A bit incessant as synth-pop can be, but I kind of like the scaled down atmosphere. Maybe doesn't get as good as Actually and the lows are quite low. Not sure if it's a must hear and is likely 2.5 for me. Going for 3.

Pas mes préférés dans cette catégorie. Jamais accroché.

Assez quelconque Tears for Fears des pauvres, avec un peu de Moby. J'ai préféré la fin et on dirait que Death Cab for Cutie a peut-être un peu puiser là-dedans.

Not too bad, but not my cup of tea

I enjoy the grooves. The keyboard sounds remind me of a keyboard we had growing up, and sometimes the sounds and playing feel a bit underdeveloped. Or like the default riffs keyboards can play (though maybe this is where they came from). His voice (and the music to some extent) remind me of The Postal Service, whose music I prefer.

Very 90s. It’s the synth drum set that got me.

I'm not really sure why the list needed more than one Pet Shop Boys. Glad that the editors are a fan, but I think one is enough. And not this one. 3/5

Brilliant synth-pop, techno candy. Darn near ambient background music to my ear. It makes me want to buy something plastic. Something good and plastic, but plastic nonetheless.

just alright

pretty good new wave record. enjoyed the vocals and the production. love the pet shop boys flair. 7/10

A good album, I liked How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously and So Hard the most.

Less dance-y, more poppy, like it all the same.

It's an almost objectively well-accomplished and sophisticated synth pop album... but most of the time, it fails to evoke any emotion in me other than a distant, wholly rational sense of appreciation. Sorry boys, this one's on me - you did your best.

Pet shop boys It was alright. The synthy instrumental parts are cool but the vocals were kind of boring. Favorites were face the facts. How can you expected to be taken seriously? And So Hard. Would like these songs more with a different

There were interesting moments of this and kind of a vibe but overall pretty forgettable

Ok, with headphones

Third PSB album in a short blast for me, another good one. Had this when it came out as a kid. Much deeper and sedate than I remember but great songs nonetheless. It’s been cool to hear the evolution of PSB again. Not a great album, but a good one. Best: Being Boring, My October Symphony, So Hard

Not terrible, very heavily synthesized and 80’s. I know it came out in the 90’s; they were still holding on.

Pet Shop Boys are great when they are great, but really forgettable when they aren't. The first third of this album was very good, but it lost it appeal after that. Still though, they do a good job on that 80s synth pop sound, and very few can compete when they are firing on all cylinders.

Enjoy PSB singles but the album was too samey

How can you, indeed.

Its fine

A little forgettable, but a decent sound to sink into. Reminded me of a band or a song that I really can’t put my finger on.

Day 205 A lot mellower than I was expecting from other PSB songs that I know, actually sounds ahead of its time, like something you’d hear at an Ibiza daytime club in 98. Highlights Being Boring

I didn't get to finish it (too damn long) but I liked what I heard a lot!

I like the artwork better than the music. The singing could be more interesting.

It sounds cool

It’s a nice interesting album, I’ve never really listened to anything like this but I’m glad to

Good example of synth pop, but nothing special. No idea why this album would be must listen to music. 0 songs added to playlist.

They have quite a unique sound. Knee who it was immediately though it wasn’t one of their most popular songs.

The sound is a little goofy, perhaps a bit “elevator music” or overly-synthesized when viewed through the lens of the 2020’s. That being said trying to consider it in the context of when it was released, I enjoyed the listen.

What have I done to deserve this? Actually, though I've never been a big fan of these guys, and there isn't really anything earth shattering here, it was a pleasant Sunday evening listen. 3

I thought this was a middle-of-the-road effort from TPSB- the songwriting and product as always were top notch as always but none of the songs grabbed me.

Okay okay ok

I enjoy the sound of the Pet Shop Boys, but I don't see what makes this album special

This isn't bad, but it also isn't good. If you were to rank every album ever made from worst to best this would be in the exact middle of the list. This album just barely surpasses elevator music. Every song feels like it is 90 bpm, 4/4 with one chord per bar, stock synth sounds, basic drum loop and some of the most average singing. Every song also goes on for 1 minute longer than it should. In conclusion, this album is very mid. Mid 3.

For this being my first psb album, i enjoyed it i thought it was decent. By the end of the album however, i did start to notice the songs starting to sound repetitive with the synths. "Being Boring" the opening track might become one of my current favorite songs i loved that track, and "To Face The Truth" although it wasnt the most sonically interesting track, I loved the lyrics. Some of my highlights are the ones i previously mentioned above and "My October Symphony" because i loved the backing vocals. This is a perfect album for autumn and drinking hot chocolate while reminiscing on every mistake you’ve done your whole life. 3,3/5

2/22 Pretty good but prefer some of the previous albums from Pet Shop Boys more

This is definitely of a particular era

I like Pet Shop Boys. They have a style and energy like no one else. They use disco and dance rhythms, but don’t necessarily make dance music all the time. It’s more contemplative and loungy. And the vocals are restrained — almost cold — but somehow contain a lot of feeling. Great production on this album too.

Hauska, perus Pet Shopia. Harmiton, huoleton, kiva kuunnella vaikka ei ihan mun juttu kuitenkaan. Ehkä kans vähän tällasta hääräysmusaa :D

3.1 Firstly, Being Boring is an absolute boring. Faint memories of hearing it a as a kid and getting it mixed up with World in Motion. Other than that, the album is... meh. A bit bland, production possibly too 80s, nothing really inviting me back in. It's fine, but certainly nothing more than that.

Top 3: 1. This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave 2. How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously? 3. Being Boring Least Favourite: Only the Wind

Groovy - 3.5

I thought I would like this much more than I did.

It's fine. It sounds like the Pet Shop Boys which doesn't immediately move me either way. I didn't hate it nor was I moved to become a fan.

Way better than I expected; tempted to give 4, but it mostly didn't have enough oomph for my taste, and the wispy vocals got tiresome after a while. Favorite tracks: This Must Be the Place... and Jealousy.

3/5 - I like the lead track and generally their synth sound and vocals here. This album feels like it's more one for the dedicated PSB fan, whereas I'd count myself more in for the greatest hits collection.

I have never been a big fan of the Pet Shop Boys and this album didn’t change that

Some bangers, but also some yawners

This is well done electronica/pop. I find it a little boring, but I can recognize that it's good within its genre. 3.0/5.0: Good

A surprisingly gentle and reserved album that works perfectly as sophisticated background listening. It steps away from the high-energy theatricality the band is often known for, delivering something much more reflective and mellow. It has a distinct 'Ibiza Sunset' atmosphere—I could easily imagine listening to this in a beach café while watching the world go by. While it’s 'no great shakes' in terms of excitement or dynamics compared to a rock record, it is a consistent, pleasant listen that sets a very specific, chilled-out mood.

Actually was a bit better, It's a sin is their only banger, i can conclude at this point. This is beginning to sound a little too much like the 90s, which takes it a bit lower for me. It's just a little boring altogether. For sure listenable, but also veery forgettable. Looooow 3

I appreciate the creativity and lyricism on this record. It's a good synth-pop record. It spurned a few hits, too. I'm not sure it's "visionary", but I do appreciate the strength of the release and see how pop radio and fans would love it.

There is a strange, muted grayness to the atmosphere of this record. The arrangements show flashes of brilliance, yet the delivery remains stubbornly detached. Every time a melody starts to catch my ear, the singing drags it back down to earth. It is not a bad experience by any means, it just exists in a middle ground where nothing quite takes digs into me. The mood is perpetually overcast and slightly damp. It captures the vibe of a lonely walk through a city on a random weeknight. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Being Boring - My October Symphony - So Hard

Pet Shop Boys in a moment of quiet reflection at the turn of the decade. Behaviour doesn’t have the infectious pop energy of some of their other albums, and it feels like they struggled to see where their sound fitted in with the emerging EDM culture. Decent effort but doesn’t wow.

'We were never being boring'...

I think this was the last PSB album i bought. It lacks the infectious pop hits that came before. That said, even as a 12 year old i enjoyed the sarcastic urony of a very downbeat song addressing critics who labelled your music as boring. Unfortunately after Being Boring it’s all a bit meh until you reach So Hard, which is the standout track. Nervously maintains this new found energy, as does The End of the World. Maybe the album would have been better if sequenced so these weren’t all hiding at the end.

This was standard Pet Shop Boys fare, so that means, by and large, I’ll like it. “Being Boring” is the clear standout but I liked the first half of the album in general - the rest, comparatively, was a bit slower and a bit more boring (pardon the pun).

The last time The Pet Shop Boys appeared on the list I ended up really sad that, away from the singles, I found it really dull. And that album had some of my favourite PSBs singles on it. So, round 2... Reading the tracklist going into this I was happy to see Being Boring but knew nothing else. And it was fine. I think Pet Shop Boys are another artist that is firmly a greatest hits act for me. They have some astonishingly good pop songs, but over a full album? They just don't do it for me. 3/5

I like these lads. This needed a few more standouts though. Opening track was great. Simpsons:

I didn’t know a single song before listening. I like that it was less pop than the Pet Shop Boys I knew and realised it sounded more like Depeche Mode. Honestly, just listen to Depeche Mode for a superior sound

I don't mind this late 80s electronic sound, it can feel a bit slight but sounds good here. But does too laid back at times, maybe a little too 80s. Heard before? 1 song Owned: No 47/184 (25%) Will I get: No

Still not my favorite brand of 80's sounds, but this album felt less annoying than the Previous Pet Shop Boys. It was ok.

I actually liked this. Mostly the first song but it’s good

Decent enough listen. Nothing remarkable, weirdly. Can't remember a whole lot of what I've just listened to. Buzzed past, but nothing as good as It's A Sin here.

Fun record

"Orchestra Hit". I did really like the slower drum machine based songs. Actually is the better album, but nice to see some growth between albums (7/10, 3/5 on this scale)

A very 80s synthwave album. This is playing as I'm walking around the mall with my mom back in 1st grade. Chill, I can't imagine an entire concert of this type of music though. 3* Fun cover of where the streets have no name (what I call "the old lady medley")

Funny, I was thinking I was in the mood for french touch this morning and this almost was what I was in the mood for. Fun stuff. 3.5/5

It took me a few listens to really get into this album. Listening to it now, I'm still feeling "OK" with it. Not my favorite work by them, but it's got some really good songs on it. 3.45 / 5 stars (can't just quite give it 4 stars). Bangers: "Being Boring" "Jealousy" "To Face The Truth"

Not for me

Not music I would choose to listen to, but some pretty chill synth pop for a Saturday morning wasn’t terrible

My favorite Pet Shop Boys album so far. Enjoyed it a good amount, with multiple standout tracks. It does feel a bit same-y over the course of the full album, though. 3.5 stars, rounding down.

This was a fun work chill vibe

A good album. Not sure if any one track stands out on the album. To me the album could be put on in the background and not really disturb the vibe of a party. Not sure if you can really dance to this but you can really hear the early 90s production in the music. Nothing wrong with as these some good times for me. But all the songs kind of sound like everything that was being released at the time. Nothing hits me on this albums like their earlier hits but that’s okay because bands are allowed to evolve. My October Symphony was good. I actually enjoyed the music on that one. So Hard picked up the bpms a bit. I read that the music would grow on me. I think I could see that and also that they were influenced by Depeche Mode. I can hear that as while. Not a bad album. I enjoyed it overall.

Pleasant enough, but didn't really do much for me. 3 stars.

3.5 stars

Favorite Track: Being Boring
