Cool music

Fine I suppose. Less annoying than most rap but not like good

Classic Method man, decent album from one of the many wu tang spinoffs. Good to see hes interested in tical

The whole was more than the sum of the parts

When we listened to Wu-Tang earlier on this list, Method Man was on my favourite tracks. I enjoyed the vague sounds of this, but didn't listen to it properly; my bad.

Not a Hip Hop fan, but I liked his vocals

3.7 - Another expansion pack within the Wu Tang universe - good stuff. I like how this record incorporates samples of kung fu film dialogue as a reference point. I also appreciate how Meth kept this one lean - no skits, no experimental tracks. The MC'ing is ferocious though the mixing at times detracts from the sound (e.g. "Biscuits").

3.4/5 hiphop

Love the laid back, lo-fi style beats on this. Always enjoy the flow of Methods rapping. Nice use of simple samples.

I have a lot of blind spots when it comes to rap and hip-hop. I was never really exposed to it, especially anything pre-2000, and this includes basically anything by The Wu-Tang Clan and their various solo projects. It is almost embarrassing to admit that this is the first whole album experience I’ve had with them, and one of the only hip-hop albums I’ve listened to in these last few years. It’s been a long time since I was last into the genre, and I wish this would have hit a little harder to make me more excited by the prospect of going through some of these landmark releases. There are definitely great songs here, All I Need and What the Blood Clot were stand outs to me, but some of these tracks simply didn’t make a big impression on me. That said, as talented as Method Man can be here, the more noteworthy bit to me is getting more familiar with RZA. His production is right up my alley and I can’t wait to hear more of what he’s got in store when I no doubt come across more Wu-Tang projects while doing this.

i hate Release Yo' Delf. the other songs are okay

Decent...pretty much love Wu Tang stuff. 3/5

This is the sort of record which really separates an accomplished taste in hip-hop from a cursory knowledge. I unquestionably fall into the latter, but the whole point of this project was to throw myself into albums like this in the hopes of having some kind of epiphany. In the end, all I can really say is I really enjoy this record. The production from RZA is quite excellent, but it’s a style which I’m led to believe he had already implemented (more) successfully with Wu Tang Clan. As for Method Man, it’s hard for me to reach a conclusion. The lisp thing isn’t a problem for me, and there’s some really neat lines in here. Unfortunately, evaluating music on “Rhymes” and “Flow” is a framework outside of my capacity, so generally if a hip-hop artist doesn’t immediately resonate with me it’s for good reason. So, on the one hand, everything great about this record seems to have been better established earlier in the artist’s career. On the other, it’s just a really good album. Pinpointing the influence of Method Man and RZA in general is quite straightforward, but within the particular context of this record I’m not hearing it.

I didn't really like this album. Very very 90s sound. I fuck with Mef when it comes to his ambition and his acting, especially. Idk, I just couldn't connect with this. I think this is one of those "you had to be there" albums. Mef put this out when the Wu was on top of the world, and I think that's an important contextual detail when analyzing this album (36 Chambers Dropped a year before Tical)

Me han gustado "Bing the pain" y "Release you' delf".

Pretty decent

Interesting album, enjoyable

Not a big fan of rap. I can appreciate the creativity though.

Wu Tang themed with great flow, beats are steady and I feel low key to let the lyrics shine

Sinon j’aime particulièrement Biscuits, Meth Vs. Chef et I Get My Thang In Action. Je vais sûrement y revenir.

Kind of a vibe

Heyrðu, þetta er barasta fínt, en kannski aðeins of seint fyrir mig að missa mig yfir þessu.

OK. I might want to listen to it occasionally. Very occasionally.

I like the delivery and most of the content is interesting, though not always my style. Still seems pretty solid.

I drive a bog-standard Prius and the bass still blew out a couple of my neighbors' windows.

I can’t name any Wu-Tang songs and, before today, couldn’t name any by Method Man. In 1994 I was busy scamming Columbia House for $.01 Nirvana, STP and Green Day CDs. The music seems familiar, though, and I like it. I noticed some similarities between the sounds/techniques used here and those used on Reggae radio stations (like on WKDU’s program Jam City Rock). I don’t have the vocabulary to express exactly what it is, but I think I’ll keep digging into it. I was asking my brother about it today and, after listening to my incoherent explanation of what I meant he threw back a bunch of words. Dubstep was one of them. I read on Wikipedia that dubstep started(or at least the term Dubstep) in the early 2000s in London. and the sound I’m thinking of (but can’t explain) goes back to at least the early 90s. So maybe I’m hearing part of the evolution? Dub/hip-hop/reggae? Sometimes the internet is not as helpful as I want it to be. If any of you have any idea at all what I’m trying to get at, please let me know. If not just ignore my rambling. This album gets a 5 for occupying all my spare thoughts today. But probably less for actual quality.

This was cool. I feel woefully unequipped to bring a studied review to most rap, based on my lack of familiarity with the genre on the whole. But like wine, I can tell you when I like it and don't, even if I can't describe the subtleties I'm tasting. So it is with Method Man. I enjoyed this album. His smooth, understated delivery speaks to his confidence as an artist, the beats kept me moving throughout, and maybe with another few listens, I'll have a better grasp of what he has to say. I did peek in on the AllMusic bio and album review after listening just to ground myself a little more in where this album stood in the Wu-Tang chronology (this was the first solo album from anyone in the collective), and learned that Method Man and I share a birthday. He's four years younger. Ain't that a bitch.

yet another Wu Tang-related album. it's definitely hip-hop, with solid production and excellent rhymes. I'm just increasingly unsure if hip-hop is my genre.

Generally not a fan of old school hip hop but I thought some songs were fine here.

Not my prefered genre, but it feels cool

So i’am not very well versed in the rap world to be honest, I’ve herd of the wu tang clan and I think I’ve herd of method man specifically but i’am not that sure… As I said i’am not very well versed in rap so I may just end up making a fool of myself. The album feels quite odd to me though because for the most part it’s very likeable the beats are amazing ( I vaguely recognised a ton of samples on this album), the lyrics are very strong and unlike the standard 17-20 track rap album with an endless labyrinth of interludes this album is nicely condensed into 13 tracks. But the rapping lacks a certain bite, a certain energy, aggressiveness and speed that I quite like in rap music. Method man is just too slow for me. There’s still some brilliant tracks though that are rap essentials (e.g. tical, bring the pain, meth vs chef, sub-crazy and especially mr sandman (by far the most mental song on the album)) Probably a 3/5

pretty good rap album, has some humor in it too

Good album but nothing stands out. Fine debut as a solo artist.

I was not hugely grippered by this on the first listen. It may grow on me, but it gave me no reason to try and work it into a regular location. Nothing offensive, but that's just how it is sometimes.

run of the mill 1990s hip-hop

Not one to listen to with the kids. Good if you enjoy WuTang

Certainly on the second listen I started to get a bit more into this but it's not really something I want to invest time into right now. Faves: Mr Sandman, Method Man

I worked at Camelot Super Store in Charlotte, NC when this album came out. For the first month seeing this album cover, I thought the idea was that 'Tical' was an extension of 'Method', so like, the album was called 'Methodtical'. But then a co-worker hipped me to the real - it's a blunt. With cocaine maybe? Dipped, too, maybe? Regardless... a pretty good listen. Method Man's delivery works for me. I didn't walk away with any new best songs, but I liked the production and didn't mind it playing.

This could quite easily be a Wu Tang Clan album - RZA helming production, Method Man's personality shining through, similar dusty-sounding beats and samples. And it's fine, not great, not bad, but fine. It doesn't pop as much as the first Wu Tang release, and it can be a little samey; proceedings are enlivened when guest performers appear. Still, MM is an inventive craftsman - even when playing it safe, the results are satisfying.

Nearly skipped it but actually enjoyed it. Not likely to search out again

I was not familiar with any of the tracks on this album. I appreciate Method Man as a Wu-Tang member, and I was surprised that this album didn't appeal to me more. Looking forward to seeing the Wu-Tang Clan on this list.

I'm sure Tical is good hip-hop. Just not a fan of the genre.

Take into consideration all lies. wu tang is for the children

Ok album, love the rhythm and rhyme of Method Man, but the lyrics aren’t engaging for me.

Good solid rap album

I'd always avoided this as he's not one of my favourite in Wu tang, don't know why. It's got the gritty sound and the classic dense lyrics. Probably needs a few listens to really sink in but I liked it

Du hip hop old school; ça s'écoute en fond

Vaikka Wu-Tang Clan onkin ihan lähellä sydäntäni, on nää jäsenten soololevyt jäänyt aikalailla kuuntelematta ehkä jotain RZA:n Liquid Swardsia lukuunottamatta. Tää on kaukana raikkaasta ja on soundiltaan jopa todella tunkkanen — joka oudolla tavalla toimii. Suht minimalistista ja sumusta menoo. Ei mitään ilosta juhlaräppii. Kyl tää keinahtaa positiivisen puolelle meikän osalta, mutta vaatii lisäkuunteluja että osaan päättää kuinka paljon. 3,5/5 Näin tällä kuuntelulla.

Toimii, 3/5. RZA:n hämyiset tunnelmat on tässäkin siistejä, vaikka on pari kovempaakin levyä tehnyt. Tosin tää Tical tuskin on edes itäräbän top10.

You know, it's not bad. Pretty inventive.

Not my cup but I appreciate the warm basement Beats. Clan possee gives more than 2.5

I can't say I have a lot of experience with the output of the Wu-tang Clan so don't have a reference point to this album. My first take on the album is that it is quite dark, moody and aggressive. As far as the songs go on this album there are some that have a really good flow but others seem not well crafted, I get the feeling that this may be an album where Method Man is trying to find his way a bit as a solo artist which is understandable. The back half of the album seems stronger to me. There are a few songs that I enjoy in particular on this album, "All I Need", "Release Yo Delf", "Sandman". 3 out of 5.

The debut solo outing from Method Man is unrelentingly dark with densely layered samples and bars. It makes for kind of a difficult listen. At the same time, I can't help but appreciate the attention to detail and inventive arrangements. That sample on "Release Yo' Delf" really made me sit up and take notice! Wanted to give this a four but find myself hovering closer to a three. Chalk it up to personal taste -- this one likely still deserves a place on this list. Favourite tracks: Bring the Pain, All I Need, Release Yo' Delf, Mr. Sandman

Going to have have another few listens. Wasn't totally hooked first time but I suspect it's a grower.

Groovy, not as corny as I was expecting. *Sub Crazy *Release Yo Delf

Hip-hop que no desagrada. Ni fu ni fa.

Fav songs: - What The Blood Clot - Release Yo 'Delf

Not my favourite Wu album (would be Supreme Clientele or Cuban Linx) but gotta respect Method Man

Some good stuffs

It's good music, definitely engaging at least. Favorite tracks might be All I Need and Release Yo' Delf.

I didn't get it in '94, don't get it now. Let's rap to the sick beats of John Philip Sousa? Samples are expensive, we'll sing 'em ourselves. No, not getting it.

Hip-hop que no desagrada. Ni fu ni fa.

Maybe I just don't get the Wu Tang thing. A lot of this just hit me as meandering warm up to a payoff that didn't come and it quickly faded into the background.

Like this more than most 90s rap. N-bombs at an efficient minimum and the flow is pretty smooth.

Not a huge hip hop fan but it was a good change from the music that I have been getting lately. 3.4

ssdsds

the method

ok, nice sound but ok

Solid but not my favorite

Really good Wu solo album but not quite up there with the best off them,. Unmistakable RZA grainy sinister production, maybe a bit long.

Mehthod man

More enjoyable than than I was expecting. Compitant rapping.

Not the classic it’s made out to be but it was the first solo project - couple of classic tracks, some good but also some forgettable

prety good, not my favorite album cover and alot of filler

Method Man is so damn charismatic. None of the tracks are catchy. The production is minor and spooky. The rhymes are dark. But somehow he's charming through the whole thing. Maybe I'm biased from all his funny movie cameos. I thought half the album was killer, and the other half mellowed into the background. But it's really contextual. 90s hip hop doesn't pair well with deskwork. B

Not bad. Not the best Wu Tang member album. Great beats, good flow. A bit dark for me. B-

Solid album, good flow, not as great as other albums coming out of Wu Tang

Good album. Am terrible at listening to the lyrics. But it all goes together well, more listens needed.

Really looked forward to this but it's dated badly. Love meths delivery tho.

Enjoyed this, but nothing really jumped out at me. The integration of jazz made me want to listen to Jazzmatazz.

Great rapper, I like his flow and rhyming, but the beats are too weak to make this a great album.

Nice 90's oldschool hip-hop. I've been in the mood for this kind of sound ever since watching Netflix's Evolution of Hip-Hop.

Will probably grow on me, but 3.5 stars for now

Great. I can see how this influenced today's artists. Not very catchy to me

Production: 12/20 Songwriting: 8/20 Innovation: 11/20 Bangers: 0/20 Emotional response: 11/20 =43 Not terrible

While rap is not my favourite genre I enjoyed this album especially for the flow of Method Man.

started weak but ended pretty strong

Pretty good. Much better than Kanye's debut.

Good for garage lifting

Heerlijke beats op een relaxed tempo. Stem van MM maakt het plaatje compleet. In bijv. I Get My Thang In Action vind ik de beat echt lekker.

The rapping here is in the back, as bass-heavy samples take center stage. Method Man's voice is still distinctive. The project has a tightness which it benefits from: Moderate runtime, a few interesting samples, no skits, and just the one remix.

Not heard this before. Sounds great on initial listening.... explore further!

Nope. Not for me.

I like Wu Tang but never listened to their solo stuff. This one gets off to a bad start with a track that has a really dissonant sounding chorus that didn't agree with my ears. Better after that, but I'm not really a fan of the flow or the (lack of) musicality. 2/5.

I can't wait until I don't need to listen to any more 90s rap

Sliten type. Spytter mange ord.

I like the music and the beat. I found no particular enjoyment in the lyrics. Still, I'm glad to have listened to this.

I didn't take too much away from this album, but it sounded fine. If anything, it was almost a little bit boring. It's decent. Favorite track: "Release Yo' Delf"

I really just could not get into this album. I've typically found rap from New York not as interesting, and this was no different. There were no memorable hooks, the beats were fine, but it just really didn't click for me. The difference between this and an album like Doggystyle are night and day, and I just prefer different types of hip hop.

Not really my thing. Bonus star for being the first hip-hop album I've listened to through this that comes in at under 45 mins thanks to no nonsense "skit" tracks.

Nope, this wasn't good at all. I'm glad others loved it, somebody has to. 2 "not at all interesting" stars

Not my type.

just not a bit of me 5.5/10

couple of songs showed a little promise, but it settled into standard (to my ears) rap.

I have tried so many times over so many years. Hip hop is not for me

There was some good production on this record that made me enjoy the more-chill moments, but everything more aggressive just started to annoy me. It tailed off HARD in the middle starting with the I Will Survive pastiche.

From the Vault #9 (January 22, 2026) 'ere we go. Another pre-written review to shove down your eyeholes. I've never heard of Method Man before, and they couldn't even spell Tikal correctly, assuming they're referring to the Mayan ruins and not the old Southeast Asian unit of measurement. This one's looking bleak, I'll be real with you. Anyways, this has to be another gangsta rap album. What else could it be? This was pretty dull, even for hip-hop standards. The instrumentals are incredibly weak and unremarkable, and there's no depth or range to any of sounds on this album. I can get down with lo-fi every now and then, but the compression on these tracks is shitty. It's difficult to articulate why, but it sounds messier and more smudged than what I'm used to. More stripped back, too. The lyrics and vocals are unenergetic, and the songwriting is awkward across the board. If there's any silver lining to this album, it's the runtime. Thank you for being short. Book time. Oh, the title of the album is derived from a butchered version of a mangled slang term for meth. That figures. This guy's from Wutang Clan. That also figures. Unconventional horror movie theming. Wikipedia reveals that the album name was actually an anagram this whole time, supposedly. Charted well. Two successful singles. Modest critical acclaim. Nah, fuck this album. In place of this album, I humbly submit 52nd Street by Billy Joel for inclusion on the list. An album which I, embarrassingly, haven't listened to, but I liked The Stranger and I've heard it's his second-best album, so I think I can slip it in on good authority.

Really baffled by this one. Was bored to tears with its dull beats, murky production and muffled vocals.

Sophie - I expected to enjoy this but it was kind of only ok. I like Wu Tang Clan but I think they only work for me when a couple of songs are sprinkled into a playlist, I don’t think I can do a whole album. The songs kinda blended into one for me. I wouldn’t rush to revisit it. 2/5

Not for me

Interesting but not my thing

Quite enjoyable for someone who's not into rap.

The classical nerd in me appreciated the 2 bars of pictures at an exhibition at the start. Other than that, a whatever hip hop album to me. Not bad, but will not revisit.

Still not my kind of music, but the rhyming is pretty good.

I understand and respect the importance of Wu Tang to rap. But the solo albums can’t ever get me. Mumbled and flat production with the inevitable King Fu sprinkled in. A couple alright songs but it’s background music to me.

Liked this quite a bit more than I would have expected.

Fed nok men ikke noget særligt

Det er bare slet ikke min genre.

DNF. Not bad, just not feeling it.

Nah not really

Not my jam. 2.5

4.0/10 Not horrible but don’t think I would listen again..

I believed before listening to this album that outside of Wu Tang Clan's 36 Chambers, Method Mans' best contribution to culture was the line he spoke in The Wire that went "you know who have the fattest asses and best pussy? Midgets, n*gga". This album didn't change my mind.

meh. Elastica snapped though yesterday

I feel so idle listening to this album. I was definitely listening to it, but I wasn't really feeling anything. It took an incredibly long time for literally anything to catch my attention, other than the songs changing. Release Yo' Self is the real standout of this album, but it's also 8 songs in and I really only liked it for the feature and slight energy boost compared to the rest of the album. It got slightly better after that song, but I feel like this guy's whole style was done much better with the Gravediggaz 3 years later. That same kind of dark, spooky-ish beat style with the sometimes overly gory lyricism, just taken thirteen steps further than Method Man did here.

Kind of eh? Some cool stuff on here though.

Unk rap. Really though it was extremely mid. Not a huge fan of MM's voice, flow or delivery overall. There's much better solo projects from Wu-Tang members.

It's always tough to follow one the greatest. This album didn't do much for me and found it to be pretty boring. I mean there were solid grooves in there, but man, what the hell happened to rap and R&B in the 90's? Turned your back to everything that made it enjoyable across all races. Just not much here I found enjoyable. 2

Jaahas.

Gratuitous everything. Not worth a serious listen

It was ok

Not a hip-hop fun but I enjoyed this one, especially the singles.

I didn't really get into this

It's fine. Lyrics are decent, beats are on par for mid-90s rap. Ranking this a little lower given the context of this being "1001 albums to listen to before you die", as to me this feels like a plain rap album from one of the members of wu tang

Annoying sounds sometimes. Average hiphop to my ears.

Im not really feeling it

Some nice vibes but not much else of note

Ok I guess, not much to it

I was not as impressed with Method Man's debut album as I thought I would be. He is one of the better MCs from the clan but RZA's beats were too stripped down and dirty for my taste. I do like the continuation of incorporating Wu-Kung-Fu styles though. Taking into consideration all lyrics and production, Tical is just some t(yp)ical early 90s hip-hop. Method gets better with subsequent releases. For this record...1.95 stars.

Interesting use of backing volcals and unusual sounds, lyricism. A bit monotine, but enjoyable for an album so out of my comfort zone.

01/01/2026 I was expecting a little more from this album, it turned out to be quite boring. Spotify listeners: 3 million

pas mon style mais c'est cool

pretty good not my taste tho

2.75. Love Meth, but this was always my least favorite solo premier release from members of the Wu. Was hoping I’d change my mind or have something more click with today’s listen but it did not.

It seemed like ordinary rap music to me. Nothing in particular stands out from the rest.

#212/1001. Taking in consideration all listens (1), 2.

This made me sad. I typically like hip-hop...but the underground mumbo jumbo doesn't do it for me and I had a hard time getting through it.

This is #day493 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… Method Man is a name that rings a bell from my childhood. I can't say I've ever listened to anything from his roster, though. This particular album is an OK '90s hip-hop, but I found it less enjoyable than another Wu-Tang member's solo record, which I got just a couple of days ago. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day494.

Good for its genre, just not my cup of tea.

So I think it works in a playlist but not as a whole, but I am just a white boy from southamerica.

Zuhause, Gerstetten, Deutschland. Ein klein wenig öde.

Dull for me, don’t get the wu tang hype 1.9/5

Here's a fun thing - instead of singing Human League's "Here comes the Mirror Man", sing "Here comes the METHOD man". More hilarious than this anyway.

Not really for me.

Is All I Need the greatest love song of the 90s? — I think neither the lyrics nor the production really stand out to me here

Straight walk off

Meh, some good stuff but not overly impressed.

even in my biggest method man obsession times, and there was some, i always found it hard to listen to a full album. I still like the bangers but a whole album doesnt keep my attention.. regardless m-e-t-h-o-d man is one of my favs

Wu-Tang just isn't my style I don't think. I have yet to like one of the albums the group or its members has made Standouts Release Yo' Delf 2/5

Poetry? Protest? Purpose?

Loving the rap introduction the 1001 is giving me. But this album isn't landing. Pretty much downhill after the Mussorsky quote at the start.

I didn’t like this. I prefer my hip hop to have more hooks and quirks than. It’s very polished and has lots of layers, but this just isn’t for me. It’s not bad, I’m just not into it.

Not bad, a bit gritty and growly.

Same beat for every song, I can barely understand what they're saying, what is even special about this. The occasional vocals made this somewhat tolerable but apart from that it was pretty crap. 1.8

“Biscuits” was tracked and mixed really poorly, the bassline overwhelms Method Man’s voice. At least “Sub Crazy” acknowledged this projects obsession with sub bass and did something interesting with it. I don’t think we’d see echoey, trippy vocals like this until the onset of cloud rap in the 2010’s. It took until “Release Yo Delf” for my ears to perk up for something. Finally, Method Man shows some life and variance in his flows and delivery. Fantastic interpolation of the I Will Survive melody. Method Man is really great when he (or his features) is flying off the handle, like on “Mr. Sandman”. Sadly, there is very little of that, especially on the front half; credit to Tical for keeping some of its most interesting songs till the end, but too little, too late. Far too mellow and doesn’t do much to poke its head out from the sea of other WTC albums or solo projects that would follow on this list. 2/5

Over pretentious (how many wutang samples do you need to put?) Boring (one song = one beat) Mindless (or maybe the texts were good? Couldn't understand because for some reasons even the sparse layering made it impossible to understand most of it). And then the commenter here claiming that only people who understand the genre and can spot the differences are allowed to criticize - that's exactly the type of l33t shit that makes me hate that genre.

Method Man has better albums. This one’s kind of boring.

I like a bit of Wu-Tang but this didn't do it for me. Some decent moments but mostly poo

Low on the mutha fuckers, niggas (although they are there) which makes a change, and some interesting bits of backing tracks, but I still struggle with this genre.

Not for me.

Just another rap album. Nothing spectacular about it, some ok tracks. Better than a 1, but only just. 2

Rap is a funny old game. After the first couple of tracks I was beginning to sort of enjoy Method Man's delivery and the clever use of samples to build a song. But then he, like most modern rappers, began to invite a merry old crew of poor performers to join him on vocal duties, which instantly destroyed that [for want for a better word] connection I was starting to feel with him. Why do they do this? Do these confident sounding men have confidence issues? Do they like to sabotage their own work as some sort of joke? Or are they just being charitable, by helping out the less fortunate? Whichever it is, it affects the amount of stars I'm going to give him. Im sure Mr Man will be heart broken when he sees this, but instead of a 3 star, its a 2.

I want to like Wu-Tang more than I actually do like Wu-Tang. This one is particularly dated-sounding. Very 1994. I guess I prefer him as a guest or teaming up with Redman than as a front man on his own.

++:Bring the Pain, What the Blood Clot, Meth vs. Chef, Mr. Sandman +: Tical, P.L.O. Style, I Get My Thang in Action, Method Man (Remix) +-: Biscuits, All I Need, Sub Crazy, Release Yo' Delf, Stimulation 5,2/10

Thank fuck there are no skits or interludes on here, only audio grabs. Good loops, reliable flow. You'll be satisfied by this release if you like East coast hip hop and Wu Tang Clan. For me, it's mid. Overall: 3/10

A fine hip-hop album

…so maybe it is just my mood but I didn’t get the popularity of this album. It’s okay for a rap album from the mid 1990s but there was nothing that grabbed me in historical context, lyrical power of musical innovation. Matter of fact, one of the negative critiques I always heard about Dr. Dre was his slow lackadaisical style, which this entire album exudes. The songs All I need and Release Yo’Delf are the only two standouts. I liked the combo jazz/blaskspoitation style with military-cadence drumming and police sirens in the background to give it a “real” feeling. Again, not bad an album, but not exceptional in the chronicles of musicology.

Boos geouwehoer.

There are a lot of interesting textures here. And, well, lyrics that haven’t held up that well in the last 30 years. Also, if you’re going to sample “I Will Survive,” you shouldn’t leave the listener wishing he’d just spent four minutes with the far, far better original.

I mean, it’s old school. I can see why it’s influential, can see a lot of artists took from it.

Unmemorable. No skits though so that was good.

Boring.

meh...

Not my favorite Wu-Tang solo effort. A bit nondescript but it had a nice groove to it so it was very listenable.

I could not tell you anything about what I just listened to other than the vocals were mixed too low. This album just kind of happened

This was ok but one line really summed it up for me: I'm on point Like a fax machine You get my message All I could subsequently think about was the sound of ancient dial-up Internet. And I did not get the message.

Still not vibing with hip hop

It seemed really quite and difficult to make a lot out. Excited to hear original version of Bring the pain, but the cover I know better runs faster. Was kind of bored with this one.

Purely quality, speed and ability to make a nice dark flow is really good. Good beats and mixing. But I also honestly don't get half of what he is saying (not because I can't hear the exact words he is saying), it seems like he is just bragging about himself, calling other people really disgusting names and singing about drugs. Looking up different critiques talking about how awesome he is and how socially conscious he is, I might be missing a lot of meaning and context because I lack the life experiences to understand. Not all music is made for me and my experience, and I highly respect that but for today I just don't know how I feel about this one.

Not my speed

Music behind the lyrics is good

I don't know if I can properly rate this. It's too far down the gangsta rap rabbit hole. I don't think it's a terrible album and unlistenable, however I'll probably never listen to it again on purpose.

That was fun to play in the background while I did morning chores. Technically it had cool flow and great hooks, I just did not identify with the content material.

Pretty anonymous

'S fine.

4 / 10 - Okay album, but nothing to write home about tbh

wasn't a fan, the mixing just felt off

Below average hip-hop with the same beat, and rhymes in seeming every song. Favorite Track: "Tical".

I’m not a big rap or hip hop fan. I didn’t like this one. Some of the pop culture references that were sprinkled throughout the album were interesting but, not enough for me to listen to this again.

Another one that proves this is not for me.

An entertaining listen but not really my thing. I don’t think myself a prude but songs that use the N word heavily are off-putting. The songs from other artists that came on spotify after this album completed were actually more immediately catchy and engaging. 2/5

Not my style

Yay another 90s rapper. I swear this is the third wu-tang solo album i’ve had, yet still no 36 chambers.

Kind of blended together. Didn't stand up to Fishscales or Wu Tang classic records for me

I have seen Wu Tang in concert twice and Method Man 3 times with Redman. I am a hip-hop fan through and through but Wu and the affiliates have never done it for me. I think they all have great tracks together, solo, and as features, but they don't really put together good albums. Meth has some classics and amazing features, but this album is not very good. I know part of the allure of Wu is their raw, rough, and rugged style of rap and production, but it is hard to sit through an hour of it for me. Rza growth over his career as a producer is amazing. Meth is the cool and popular member of Wu, but he really isn't the most talented or creative. Rae is a word smith, Ghost is a stoytelling poet, Rza and Gza have crazy analytical brains, Deck has great flow, ODB was a larger than life personality, Masta is well rounded but nothing special and U-God is well, a member. But Meth has style and charisma on stage and on a screen (that's why he has starred in many TV and movies). Wu as a whole has been very influential and Meth is a huge part of that and I don't hate, or even dislike their music, but it just gets put on a pedestal that I don't think it is deserving of. With all that, this album is a pretty poor showing for an all-time type hip-hop artist. IMO there are at least 50 hip-hop albums better than this (one of them being his first album with Redman), and that is being kind to Iron Lungs. 4.1/10 91/1001

Another rap/hip hop album! How many are there on this list?

Just dont like the hip hop/rap much. Probably good but not that I can tell

Not my jam

I appreciate the nods to Pictures at an Exhibition and Schoolhouse Rock but idk

Not the worst rap I’ve heard. Still think it’s crap.

Not for me

Didn't really have any bangers.

Temppu melkein jopa toimii. Matala 2.

Failed to click with this one, though that feels like it could be a skill issue on my part, not the album's. Nothing really stood out to me though!

I think I’m too white to rate this. Didn’t resonate with me at all.

There are going to be ten thousand Wu Tang Clan solo albums on this list and I just don't enjoy that era of 90s East Coast rap.

I'm clearly not the intended audience here, so feel free to disregard this rating. All I can give is my gut reaction, which is to hope I'm never forced to listen to this again. I hope others enjoy it, though.

Some sinister, dissonant beats. Repetitive. Odd mixing, sometimes the instrumentals seem too loud and distract from the vocals. Probs won’t listen to this again.

This was not the greatest hip hop I’ve ever heard. I was uninterested and unimpressed. However, it was also not the worst hip hop I’ve ever heard. So two stars.

01) Tical - 6,0 02) Biscuits - 6,0 03) Bring the Pain - 6,0 04) All I Need - 6,0 05) What the Blood Clot!?! - 5,5 06) Meth vs. Chef - 5,5 07) Sub Crazy - 5,5 08) Release Yo' Delf - 7,0 09) P.L.O. Not really my thing. Some beats are ok, others are kinda blurry or overcrowded.

Not my thing.

It's like the Wu-Tang sound without the rest of the Clan. Meth has a good flow on this album. The beats are good. The tracks seem a bit busy. It's a fine album and definitely has its influence on much of what was to come, especially out of the East Coast hip hop scene.

Not for me.

Hiphop. Tvåa

It's so musically boring that I can't care if the lyrics matter. Every single song has the music and flow of an improv group.

I think RZA really improved with time. This just sounded really muddy for the most part and had that same problem that solo Wu Tang stuff often has in that I wanted a bit more variety

I appreciate the skill this guy has but it doesn’t connect with me, wish I did know how to like this album but the back beats get boring to me

"What's that? Method Man, speak up! I can't hear you! Method Man - SPEAK UP!" I could barely the hear man at times. I mean geeze what was that mix? And the bass - my god! I had it mixed down in my car. I can only imagine how it must've drowned out everything else with it at normal levels. I've had two Wu-Tang-adjacent albums now (the other from Raekwon) and I just don't think I get them. The meandering lyrics that just go on and on, and the backing tracks are all similar enough that it's difficult at times to discern between the tracks themselves. There's no real hook, no chorus. Nothing repeats, so it's hard to follow in terms of structure. I dunno. If this is what Wu-Tang is, I don't think I like Wu-Tang. And that would be a bummer, given how much rap and hip-hop I've had through this list that I actually have come to adore. Two stars. Please be more interesting next time. Standout Tracks: All I Need, Meth vs. Chef, Release Yo' Delf

The beats were good but that was it.

2 out of 5. This album is chill but ok.

Not my jam

Somehow, all tracks sound similar. Basically the beat is always the same, never changes significantly. Same bpm, same rhythm. Boring.

Eh.. not bad but just meh

no soy tan fan del rap

It's not my thing. There's some good rhymes in there in places, but it's really grimy and lo-fi. When you compare it to the Ghostface Killah album I got, that had real energy and smacked you about the chops. This is just a bit limp. At least it's not full of shitty skits.

Not my style and the language just wears on me.

Not the best to put it into three words

Whatever. This dude doesn't rap impressively, can barely understand him (although that may be because of the production as well), and the lyrics are (shocker) pretty bland and trashy. I don't get the hype and if this is what the Wu-Tang Clan sounds like I'm not impressed.

ummmm, no. a lot of mumbling, hard to understand lyrics, discordant samples, and tracks that (somehow) all sound the same. there, I saved you from listening to it. 1.5 stars only because I couldn't hear most of the lyrics

Hip hop is known to be an impressive display of sound production when done correctly. If the only hip hop you had ever heard was this album, you never would have known. On top of that, this dude's voice is TERRIBLE, and that says a lot considering hip hop is not known for its singing talent.

I love Method Man's voice and flow, but the 'experimental' approach for a lot of this, sounding like two completely different tracks playing simultaneously, was disconcerting and didn't really draw me in. I can hear the intent, but am not sure it works, in the main.

Lines: ok Voice: Shite Flow: Shite Beat: Shite

This is the kind of hip hop I cannot stand...

Sadly not the style of hip-hop/rap I ever really respond well to so probably not the best judge but didn’t take any enjoyment from this at all really. Only bit that stood out/stuck with me at all was the (I think purposeful??) homage to I will survive on release yo’ delf.

I grew up a teenager in the 90’s addicted to grunge and alternative music. I enjoy old school 80’s rap but not really anything past that. I like the beat samples on this album but I think his vocal mix is poor and all the songs have a same tempo or energy. The album is ok, not terrible and not great.

Rating: 5/10 Meh.

I didn't get it.

Not for me

Fine, middle of the road at best.

Rap is my favorite to begin with, there was one song I would like, but I don't think I would listen again. If I could give a 2.5 I would because it doesn't warrant a two but isn't good enough to be a three

Production is ass

It’s ok I suppose but nothing really stands out or grabs me to be honest.

Hip hop, och inte riktigt min stil...

Really enjoyed the opening title track, everything else didn't do anything for me, though. It was not horrible either, I'm just not a hip-hop person. At least it wasn't overly long like so many hip-hop records from this list. Key tracks: Tical

Pretty goods rhymes but way too offensive for me.

Didn't resonate with this one too much. Nothing wrong with it but nothing stood out.

As vile as it is uninspired.

Not my favorite Wu-Tang flanker but I thought I would enjoy this more. Needs more Ghost. Needs any Ghost.

Meh. What am a I missing here? It doesn’t have enough funk for good hip hop, beats don’t hit all that hard till towards the end, and the lyrics aren’t giving me anything deep.

I'm afraid I wasn't very interested in Tical by Method Man. Some lyrics were so dated, which happens frequently in hip hop albums of the eighties and nineties, so I wasn't surprised. And I'll be the first to admit I'm not a huge fan of hip hop, though I can recognize how this album's sound was influential! But I guess I don't see how this album was different in comparison to albums by Wu-Tang Clan and the other members.

Like most Wu Tang Clan and Wu Tang Clan member solo albums, I find this work to be fairly unique among hip hop albums of the time, but it's still relatively not for me. That said, the uniqueness sort of begins to fade when you consider that all Wu Tang and Wu Tang member solo albums basically sound like this. Nonetheless, that solo artist behavior all started here! High 2, but not quite a 3 for me.

This was fine. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5

Wu Tang is not for me.
