Reviews (page 4 of 13)

Normally it’s difficult for me to keep my interest with a double album. But this record has such a great variety with so many banger songs that I’m never bored. More than anything I’m eager to listen to the full thing again. 5/5

This is a really excellent album. One of my favorites from the first time I heard it. George Harrison was a superb songwriter and this album shows him at his very best. This is technically a triple album but really it should be considered a double album with bonus jam tracks. Until the jam tracks there's not really any filler, it's all good. The jam tracks are fine but definitely nowhere the same quality as the rest of the album. There are literally too many favorite tracks to list.

relisten. breathtakingly beautiful, masterful, inspirational, nostalgic, haunting. full of love and at the same time full of sorrow. makes me feel a lot of things. i thought about reaching for this album lately but was afraid it would just make me feel worse. turns out it's exactly what I needed.

This is in my top 5 albums of all time. I'm only giving it 5 because I can't go any higher. A quiet and thoughtful start before it leaps into life with "wah wah". And how good is that guitar!! Stand out tracks are the obvious "Beware the Darkness" and "All things must Pass", but a shout out to "Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp" and "Hear me lord". As with all George Harrison albums, you just feel love from every track. Music didnt get any better than this.

The sheer creativity - stunning. Side four is particularly incredible.

The Beatles’ main song catalogue consists of 188 original songs. Only 22 of those were written by George Harrison. Listening to the creative powerhouse that is All Things Must Pass those numbers seem completely outrageous. Harrison somehow never makes a wrong move on what is undoubtedly the greatest post-Beatles achievement by any Beatle.

George, you doll. Perfect album from a perfect Beatle. I’d struggle to find a more consistent, cohesive, beautiful or downright GOOD album of the same amount of ambitiousness and length. Don’t be a fool, give this 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have never heard this album before. It was really good and has aged beautifully!

GEORGE HARRISON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm guessing this is what set George Harrison apart from the other Beatles after they went their own separate ways. I found it very nice to listen to.

I mean c’mon, two of the greatest songs from the best beatle. Awesome.

Classic. After watching Get Back, I am certain he held back a lot of his songs from the them. Harrison was always oozing with talent.

For my money, the best solo Beatles album. Despite the double LP length, Harrison never wastes a single second. My god, what a wonderful collection of songs. It seems as though Harrison was the only Beatle who hadn't somewhat lost the plot, as his collection of songs is the most grounded and effective. I think most of this can be chopped up to years of being overlooked in the Beatles, which allowed him to slowly accumulate several years' worth of excellent songs that he showcases here on All Things Must Pass. This album also maps out some of Harrison's greatest musical influences which shaped much of his sound, most notably from Bob Dylan and the Band. I cannot think of better songwriters to refine Harrison's musical abilities for his "first" solo album. I use quotations there because he technically released two other albums prior to All Things Must Pass, but this album felt like a complete statement in comparison. I also have to give so much credit to the supporting session musicians that flesh out the album's sound to such an incredible degree. I cannot imagine how proud Harrison must have felt with this incredible and complete piece of work in his hands after years of being overlooked in the Beatles' creative process. Apple Jam is a cute little addition. Harrison is quoted saying that it "wasn't part of the record" so I would judge it separately from the rest of All Things Must Pass, despite being packaged together. For a collection of jam band songs, it's pretty good! Gives the Grateful Dead a run for their money. Really though, my rating is for the rest of the album. Beautiful in all respects and an incredible listen back-to-front.

When you're a former Beatle and decide to release a triple album, no one is going to stop you. It's still an ambitious effort though. 'All Things Must Pass' contains more of Harrison's compositions than songs than the Beatles ever recorded, despite his efforts. Had the band stayed together, Lennon and McCartney owed him more room to shine on their next album. Harrison really cements his legacy as being much more than the backing performancer to his famous bandmates. It's long and sprawling, showcasing a murkier and more jam oriented sound. But it's definitely one of the best post-Beatles albums and some of the best music of Harrison's career. As a side note, the version on Spotify has 5 bonus tracks snuck in at the end of disc 1. Kind of overkill for such a long album if you ask me. Disc 2 changes the order from the original release as well.

Perfection

Liked it ab bit diffrent but good

George's magnum opus. What a statement to drop this as his first LP after The Beatles. The Quiet Beatle said so much with this TRIPLE album and so much of it always spoke to me. All the Dylan influence and collaboration is exciting but with George's guitar and voice--so so beautiful. I never understood the "plagiarism" issue with My Sweet Lord. I still think that's such bullshit. Though Thanks for the Pepperoni seems to borrow a lot from Johnny B Goode. All Things Must Pass was my mantra as I geared up for unmedicated childbirth and it was running through my mind as I watched my best friend take his last breath.

The best Beatles solo album.

Peu importe ce qu’on en dit, c’est définitivement le meilleur album triple de tout les temps.

Frábær plata hjá Gogga. Quiet Beatle var svo kósý gaur.

My favorite of all the Beatles solo work. Absolute classic.

Such a fantastic album. You can feel the pent-up creativity that moves through the record. Absolutely loved it. Listened to a version with raw cuts of My Sweet Lord and others. These really show how Phil Spector’s production makes songs shine.

This is one of my favorites! George benefited from having a huge backlog of songs due to Paul and John dominating the Beatles songwriting. In my opinion, it stands as the best solo Beatles record out there and definitely deserves to be considered one of the best albums of all time.

Fantastic album. Makes you wonder what might have been if the Beatles had stayed together, but this is still five stars on its own merits.

Ongekend goed, ballad of sir frankie crisp is gelijk een van m'n favo nummers ooit

One of the most fun, laid-back, pure-joy albums I've heard. George knew his stuff, and he definitely deserves his status as the best post-Beatles Beatle (in terms of raw music quality). There are so many tracks here that are just a blast to listen to, with the added benefit of musical complexity that keeps both music aficionados and more casual listeners engaged. Isn't It a Pity, Wah-Wah, What Is Life, Beware of Darkness, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp, All Things Must Pass... The list goes on, and there isn't a single stinker track (except possibly It's Johnny's Birthday, but come on, it's under a minute. Give Sir Georgie a break!). Add in the monumental and iconic single My Sweet Lord, as well as the run of groovy instrumentals that conclude the track listing, and you have a near-insurmountable double album. There's a spiritual vibe that really shines through, particularly throughout disc 1. Lots of organs, acoustic guitars, and pianos playing together, along with fun adaptations on I-IV chord progressions. It sounds pretty great. George's vocal is also well-suited to this (for lack of a better descriptor) preachy style. Not exactly comparable to any of his Beatles output, except for possibly Within You Without You (a very underrated Sgt Pepper's track). Some excellent texturing here that's apparently underappreciated, based on Spotify listens. Let It Down, Isn't It A Pity, and Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp all have an anthem-like quality that automatically gains my approval. They're also well spread out across the album, which brings me to another point: I really like the order of tracks. Reminds me of Low (David Bowie) with its fantastic instrumental final side, and just a fun, creative, diverse mix of songs earlier in the album. Lucky me - the third consecutive day of 5-star albums. I've living the life, truly.

Great solo album from George Harrison… beautiful album

Long album. I enjoyed what I heard.

This should be the soundtrack for The Great British Baking Show. Just lovely.

Genius and thoroughly enjoyed

Worth the two hours for the guitar melodies alone. 5.0/5.0: Iconic

This probably has too many songs and could do without the 10 minute blues jams (though they are really good), but there are way too many GREAT songs on here to not be a 5 (sweet lord, wah wah, isn’t it a pity, what is life, if not for you (great Dylan cover), run of the mill, Frankie crisp, waiting on you all, all things must pass). Best Beatles solo album? Probably. Global rating on this is criminally low.

God I love this record. Disc 1 goes full throttle, no skips just beautiful music. There’s just something about George’s delivery that sets him apart from poppy Lennon, and rock & roll Lennon. He’s like the perfect mesh and I think that’s why they were such a great group. George will forever be my favorite beatle- his music just speaks to me in a way that the others don’t. This record feels like a soundtrack and I’m the main character of the movie. Disc 2. Honestly tapers off heavily from the 1st half, but that’s okay. We get some of the familiar sounds from the first half, but also some sick ass guitar solos. Cloud Nine is my favorite record of his, so to begin there and work my way back through his career has been a trip. I believe this was his first solo album where he actually sings. It’s crazy because if I didn’t know any better, I’d think this is fully evolved George Harrison.

out of the blue is up there with one of my favorite ending to album I think ever. Never have I had an album be an instant classic in my eyes so fast. Listen some of these songs I would not listen to outside the context of this album but I do not hate them or dislike them they are merely messengers for this album to be played in. Awaiting on you all is such a great bop that I wish the Beatles performed. The Christian themes and wow this is the Beatle I am least familiar with. This is my favorite album I have been introduced to from this challenge I can see why it is memed to death as being like a music buffs favorite album or a douchebag for Brooklyn's favorite. I love almost every instrumentation and song and I want this record bad LIKE SO BAD. This is a 10/10 this is perfect in the way an album like this can be and a classic record that I needed to hear before death. Thank you

An absolute banger of an album and possibly the best by any beatle in their post career. George Harrison's pent up creativity from his later beatle years is finally let out in a truly memorable double album.

This album has been a good friend in my hardest days. I miss you George.

haaalllllilluuuujah doo doo doooo dooo dooo - good album all round I reckon, it has nice guitar noises

Wow! Great album! Great forever songs! I love George Harrison, and this is good.

That made my morning commute and the first two hours of work amazing! Going to keep that one on the phone for mobile listening in the future.

Amazing album, but I knew this one already

I love this album with my heart and soul, my sweet lord makes me feel an emotion that’s indescribable

I love this album - just good music. Disc 1 is nearly perfect,And then moving to disc two, my favorite song on the album - "All Things Must Pass". One of the best (if not the best) Beatles related projects.

Loved it

Vind vooral Isn't it a pity en I'd have you anytime goud en natuurlijk de klassieker My sweet lord

3 albums in one. Three while LPs. Reaally? Some good songs in there

Great Album.

The best solo album of a member of The Beatles. His signature slide guitar, the mixture of musical styles, and the spiritual themes all contribute to a phenomenal piece of music.

Just a wonderful listen from beginning to end. Great album from my favorite Beatle.

Beautiful album to listen to on a sunny day. Will definitely listen to this again soon.

just absolutely fucking phenomenal, stupidest thing the beatles ever did was ignoring these songwriting ideas

Great album. Little long but only the deluxe version was available on Spotify so I'll give it a pass. Great songs and a really nice smooth flow. George Harrison deserves more praise

Been big on this one for a while. Best Beatles solo project easily and gives even the best Beatles albums a run for their money IMO.

It’s crazy to me how so many people don’t understand the context of why this album is so long. George was so tired of having so few of his tracks end up on the record and having to filter so many great ideas. So this is him finally being free to release everything pent up so it goes against the ethos of this album to “get rid of the filler.” Of course there might be some filler but to hold that against the album when it would be the greatest double album ever (right there with London Calling) is absurd to me. Classic after classic. I’ve spent most of this review talking about other peoples reviews which I hate but frankly there are some really embarrassing reviews of this album out there. It’s almost unbelievable how many classic songs are on here. The filler makes this a 4.9 instead of a 5.0. Deducting anymore than that seems ridiculous. Rating: 4.9

I had Wings' Band on the Run yesterday and now this! Maybe tomorrow I'll get an album by the main man: Ringo. I've always said this is the best Beatles solo album (just beating RAM I reckon). Such a distinctive sound throughout with a slide guitar which (thankfully) never goes full country. There's a couple of close calls like Behind that Locked Door but that's excused because it's followed by Let it Down. If Not For You might be my favourite. Amazing song already but covered so well by Harrison, making it a whole different animal. Great, great, great album.

Georgie was cooking for 4 years and served up a feast of bangers 🙏 It gets better every time I give it a listen. Not counting the ”Apple Jam” songs since it was a bonus disc but those aren’t bad either! 5 stars

Had some incredible tracks What is life I dig love Out of the blue

For someone who had a lot of music to express after naturally being stuck behind the wall of McCartney/Lennon, George Harrison really didn’t disappoint. In fact he produced a monster of an album which in my opinion still outshines any other of the post-Beatles solo records. This album is a full realisation of George Harrison’s talents. Every song is full of life, moving lyrics and amazing instrumental performances.

Excellent.

Love love love

This is one of my go-to comfort albums. George Harrison summed up the human experience with his clever writing with themes of love, life, disappointment, spirituality, and death. All songs are beautifully performed & I have a soft spot for What Is Life & My Sweet Lord - both need to be played at my funeral. Wah-Wah is fantastic in that it was written after a spat with Paul McCartney yet it sounds so uplifting & catchy. This is music gold & definitely deserves to be on the list.

I think this was the first time I listened to this all the way through, and even then I put it off for a couple of days because who has the time. BUT I love it. Hit me just right. Excited to be a peaceful long-haired Hare Krishna.

Lovely album, one of the greatest of all time. George released from the shackles of the Beatles. Good album to listen to on a cloudy afternoon. Have this on vinyl.

George Harrison was the best Beatle and this is an incredible album, frankly, I wish it was longer.

At first I was put off by the length, but I ended up really enjoying this album. The production and song writing is top notch. There are a few duds here and there, but that is to be expected with this many songs. I doubt I will ever listen to the bonus tracks/jam again, but the main album is surprisingly good. 4.5

Perfect storm for me: evocative lyrics, full and warm production, virtuosic slide guitar performances, and George’s vocals, which I have always been a huge fan of. I was fully engrossed the whole way through. Easy 5!

Komplett gut

Way too long but quite a few diamonds in the rough here. Still almost a perfect album. And I read some of these weren’t good enough for the Beatles??

What an amazing person. I usually don’t like other peoples spirituality but I like his.

Was surprised by the mixed reviews on this site for this record, but i thoroughly enjoyed every song. The jam tracks at the end aren’t my favorite so they certainly could have been excluded. Not my favorite solo Beatles work, but definitely up there.

A really good album! George was part of one the greatest acts of all time, but this work really stands on its own.

Standout Tracks- "My Sweet Lord," "Wah Wah," "If Not For You," "All Things Must Pass," "Art of Dying" Lyrics/Vocals- 5/5 Instrumentals- 5/5 Vibes- 5/5 Overall 5/5 This is one of my favorite albums of all time. The production value, the lyrics, the music, I think everything about this album is perfect. George Harrison was such a talented artist, it's no surprise that this album is nothing short of a masterpiece. If I had my own 1001 albums, this would be on that list in a heartbeat.

Absolutely adore this record. Harrison finally allowed to soar unrestrained and shows himself to be a truly S-tier songwriter. Amazing arrangements, such a great showcase for his slide guitar as well. Classic as they come.

This album is a total masterpiece. I have never heard it before other than My Sweet Lord. Every song is great, but in particular the ending to the second part starting with Art of Dying to the end is outstanding. Will definitely listen again.

This album is gorgeous from start to finish, George must have been just keeping great songs that he could not get on the group's albums stashed and ready to unload. Its a great revelation of talent that we only got glimpses of during the Beatles run, in someways nore forward looking than John and Paul's post Beatle output.

Hands down, the best solo album by a former Beatle. The last few novelty songs are best left untouched, but the rest of the tracks are an absolute tour de force. George has found his slide guitar mojo, and his songwriting is at its chromatic best. Fun fact, 'If Not For You' was our wedding song.

What a way to kick off a solo career. While good things followed from George, this could be considered his masterwork.

Beatles but more rock and modern. Innovative guitar riffs. Chill.

Beautiful and classic album from a great musician.

Was very convinced that RAM was my favourite post-Beatles album, but after re-listening to this, there may be a new contender Favourite tracks: My Sweet Lord, Isn’t It a Pity (Version 1), What Is Life, If Not For You, Run of the Mill, Apple Scruffs, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp, All Things Must Pass, Out of the Blue

I'd Have You Anytime - So peaceful, I think there is a kinda synth layering the guitar, genius. My Sweet Lord - Made christian songs interesting before Skillet. Wah-Wah - From a sweet christian beggining to sweet rock christian music. Gorgeous. Isn't It a Pity - The harmony is just incredible, the minute 2 makes me float, again. What Is Life - Just an amazing classic rock song, catchy. If Not for You - Pure Magic. Behind That Locked Door - If not sad, definetly nostalgic. Let It Down - I thought it was going to be some sort of hard rock, but the piano kicked in on, not dissapointed at all. Run of the Mill - Love the sound of the guitar. Beware Of Darkness - The VOICEEEEEEEE Apple Scruffs - The backing vocals are lovely. Ballad os Sir Frankie Crisp - LET IT ROLL. Awaiting On You All - Honestly, not my favorite, but still good. All Things Must Pass - I crashed my plane on Garry's Mod while listening to this song, I'll never forget it. I Dig Love - It truly dug my mind. Art Of Dying - Play This At My Funeral, and I crashed another plane on this song. Isn't It a Pity Ver 2 - I prefer the first version, but is still mindblowing. Hear Me Lord - The backing vocals, again, are amazing. Top 5 (Cause Album Long Is) My Sweet Lord All Things Must Pass Beware Of Darkness Art Of Dying Isn't It a Pity

Fantastic. Like discovering some long lost Beatles album I hadn't heard, but with a twist of only George. I've missed out on this one, wish I would've heard it sooner. Favorite track: Art Of Dying

Iconic

Best of the Beatles solo work. Proper quality. Goof loves it too. Apple scruffs is a jam. A line in I dig love sounds a lot like I love d@ck.

I loved it!

Yes it's long. Old Georgie Boy finally was out of Lennon & McCartney's shadow and was free to drop everything that he has been working on. My favorite solo Beatle release.

One of my favourite albums. So close to perfect…. If it wasn’t for the almost 30 minutes of instrumental jams at the end. At least they’re just there at the end, as sort of a bonus, so they’re easily skippable. I so badly want to give this album a perfect score but I don’t think I can justify that. Ah well, it’ll get 5 stars from me either way. Easily one of the best Beatles solo albums. Can’t even narrow down a top 5, there’s way too many great songs here. 9/10 Top 5: 1. What Is Life 2. All Things Must Pass 3. Behind That Locked Door 4. Isn’t It A Pity 5. Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let it Roll) 6. My Sweet Lord 7. Run of the Mill

- Hears this many times before - Easily my favourite Beatles solo album - Very long, but I kind of think it's justified considering the amount of songs he had unreleased by the time the band broke up - Fav songs: What Is Life, Isn't It a Pity, Apple Scruffs

Amazing. Great songs and great production.

One of the Greatest LP’s of all time definitely!!!

This album was so long (100 min) but so good. The last 20 min are just instrumental jam sessions, which I'm not usually a fan of, but with 2 Beatles (Ringo on the drums) plus Eric Clapton on guitar it was just amazing. I was like, "Over already?"

masterpiece

My favorite Beatles solo album, but not the BEST Beatles Solo album.

This album proves that George never deserved to be seen only in the shadows of John and Paul. George was not just the extra guitar guy! George could write and play and sing! And that dude has soul, too. These songs are spiritual in nature and have a universal time ascending quality about them. And it’s a whopper of an album! Let’s hear it for George, everybody!

Something very comforting about this album very early on between "I'd Have You Anytime", & "My Sweet Lord" Also, I had no clue he played lead guitar in The Beatles. That's cool.

All time favorite.

George had a backlog of material to get out due to his former band mates not allowing more than a couple of songs on their albums. Generally, fine throughout although some of the extended jams could have been pared back a bit.

Jo, if not for you

Não costumo ouvir Beatles, mas o George tirou onda nesse álbum!

This is my jaaaammm!

George Harrison is my favorite Beatle... So, slam dunk on a classic.

Always been a fan of the Beatles and George was an amazing musician who was often over shined by Paul and John. His solo collection shows his talent.

This is a truly wonderful album. Every song worthy as its own entity. 'Isn't it a pity' is so stunningly poignant and beautiful it still brings tears to this middle aged man on every single listen. Is it a perfect album? Quite possibly. I certainly can't see how you could improve it in anyway. Is it better than any of the Beatles albums? Once again, in my humble opinion, quite possibly. And then, surely, this means it must be in contention for 'greatest album recorded'. If its not there, its certainly very very close...

One of those albums I just can't be impartial about. It's one of my favorite albums. It contains "Run of the Mill", one of my favorite songs. I'm not crazy about the Apple Jam that makes up the final disc of this triple album, but that's not enough to knock it down a star. The songs that make up the first two discs are among the best ever written or recorded.

what do you want me to say. he came in here mad as hell. if i were paul and john i would be really scared right now. sometimes you do get overly phil spectorized i guess with some of these but it's probably the only time i don't care. whatever. all things must pass bitch

Plagiarism accusations be damned, the boy can write a hit! Also isn't it crazy how this album got me through high school and now I'm almost the same age George was when he released this. Fucked up

Waited too long to do solo Beatles, particularly this one. Became the soundtrack to an epic and sad trip around India, and convinced me that what John and Paul were really missing in their solo work was the melodic genius who put this together. Ignore the jam disc, you don't need it. Listen to the new remastered version and let the vibe of the most but also least ascerbic genius songwriter sweep over you. So much loveliness, so many great riffs that could have been insanely good Beatles tracks if not for ego

The long album length prevented me from listening to this earlier. It is pretty good, What is Life is one of my favorite songs on any of the albums we've got. The instrumentals and rerecordings aren't that necessary but aren't bad to listen to. Low 5.

George Harrison is now one of my fav artists. I dont think I'll listen to the whole album again front to back again but theres alot of songs on here that I really love. so good.

This is long and for sure has some filler stuff that probably could’ve been cut, but overall this is really good. 9/10

Quite simply the best solo album by any of the Beatles. What more do you need to know?

"All Things Must Pass" by George Harrison, released in 1970, is a magnum opus that stands as one of the greatest solo works by any ex-Beatle. This triple album is a sonic journey of spiritual introspection and musical brilliance. From the sweeping "My Sweet Lord" to the poignant "Isn't It a Pity," Harrison's songwriting prowess shines. The lush production, featuring contributions from Eric Clapton and others, elevates the album to a transcendent level. It's a celebration of life, love, and the passage of time. "All Things Must Pass" is not just an album; it's a spiritual and musical experience, earning a well-deserved 5/5 for its timeless significance and Harrison's enduring artistic legacy.

The best post Beatles album that a member made

Awesome

I've never listened to Harrison's solo work but man did I like this. I'd Have You Anytime immediately caught my ear and had it the whole album. Probably like the tune above, My Sweet Lord, and Let It Down the most. When I have more time, I need to listen to disc 2.

One of the best.

Finally! The best Beatle, the one who has the best solo catalogue and is the best person, is being gifted to me today! Oh how I love George, and I’m so happy this band broke up so he could flourish artistically. John was an oppressive and abusive glory hogging prick, who could have learned a lot from George’s songwriting were he actually capable of all the peace and love he facetiously touted. Side 1 and Side 2 of the original release are absolute perfection! All of my favourite ever George tracks are here. But he didn't stop there, poor man was sitting on a deep well of creative energy that wasn't being tapped. This is his magnum opus, and it is a rare gem, a true sparkling beauty. Rest in power, George! You were a massive talent and what your music will always have a special place in my heart.

Such an amazing album. My first 5/5. Added quite a few tracks, enjoyed my whole time with it. Thinking of picking up the vinyl. Will be listening to this one more and more.

George May or may not be my favourite beatle but this album is definitely my favourite solo Beatles album

All time

Best solo Beatle record. Love this album.

I do agree that perhaps the album was a bit too long, and there was some songs in here that felt like filler songs, but I really enjoyed the album as a whole.

yall would rather listen to the beatles over this??? if it weren't for that final stretch of instrumentals plus happy birthday johnny (whatever the hell that was) this wouldve been an easy 5 for me. it's not perfect but i enjoyed it enough to put it up there. i think i'm still gonna give it a five ~anyway~ because the first like eighty or so minutes were pretty great. let it down and art of dying were the two biggest standouts for me.

The 1-2-3 punch of My Sweet Lord, What Is Life, and Awaiting On You All is really killer. I think if there had been a little more editing/sequencing of the trackless this could have been a really really stellar record for /everyone/ and not just beatles nerds like me. The Phil S 'wall of sound' production is still there, but the additions by the band and Clapton and George himself are also really stellar. Really enjoyed getting to know this record again and it gets a 5 from me though it's maybe barely over that line.

To me, this album is George's loving letter to all the lonely people out there, offering them hope and promise of a better life through a more spiritual existence. Musically, I love the interesting melodies and little surprises tucked throughout. Not every song is great, but the good ones are so good that I agree, this album is a must-listen before we die.

The best Beatle put out a solo album. Not surprised by the results.

There is absolutely no reason for first draft versions or backing instrumentals of songs already on the album to be included on non-box set version of albums. With that being said, this album is brilliant otherwise. Especially compared to the other solo Beatles albums in this book, it confirms my long-standing belief that George was the best Beatle. This is the type of folk music handling that draws me in. I really, really love the arrangements throughout the album. Favorite tracks: What is Life, Thanks for the Pepperoni

This is a fantastic vibe, great album and a diverse but consistent mix of great tracks

Amazing!!! One of my favourite albums ever. My Sweet Lord is my favourite track.

Was not expecting to like this after reading the other reviews, but I thought it was great. Long hippy jams are awesome in my book!

Easy 5

The album generally recognised as the best Beatles solo effort, and I can see why. Released in 1970, just seven months after the Beatles broke up, it is characterised by George Harrison's signature slide guitar, Phil Spector wall of sound production, and themes of love and spirituality. It is instantly recognisable as George Harrison, but more Beatlesy than I had expected and is even Lennonesque in places. It is badged as a triple album, although there is a debate to be had about whether the third disc, ‘Apple Jam’, should be considered part of the album or whether it is merely a bonus disc. I personally consider it the latter as it literally is half an hour of jam sessions. It doesn’t fit the rest of the record and whilst the musicianship if excellent, it feels a bit pointless. I understand that it may have been included to more quickly fulfil a contractual obligation, which is a shame. 2/5 for Disc 3. Disc 1 is where it’s at. Side A comprises four our really nice songs with spiritualist themes, including Harrison's biggest solo hit, My Sweet Lord. Side B is the love section and the standout part of the album. It comprises five songs about romantic love from a variety of perspectives. My favourite is 'If Not For You' - a beautiful, simple, innocent love song. I really like the lyric and must remember to check out the Bob Dylan original: "If not for you, the winter would hold no spring, couldn't hear a Robin sing, I just wouldn't have a clue, If not for you". I also particularly like that 'Let It Down' is a song about wanting to be in your lover's hair tent. An easy 5/5 for Disc 1. Disc 2 is more nice Harrison songs with similar themes. A bit of a drop off in quality from Disc 1, but still decent. 3.5/5 for Disc 2. It’s a shame that Harrison didn’t release Disc 1 and perhaps a couple of the strongest tracks from Disc 2 as a single album. Overall it is still an excellent double record, but the single album version would have been an all-time masterpiece. The third disc further dilutes the portion that is exceptional, but I’m pretending that doesn’t exist. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: My Sweet Lord Date listened: 05/11/23

Let It Down

10/10 I feel like George Harrison doesn’t get enough love I know his contribution to the Beatles discography wasn’t as prolific as John or Paul’s, but he still has some really incredible songs in there but what makes this album so special is that his talent gets to be front and center he holds nothing back as he shows you his complete and honest self in the most artistically creative way possible this album has always held a special place in my heart and I sincerely hope more Beatles fans would give this a listen

Brilliant

Love it!

Allways loved the Beatle, this was a nice find enjoyed it !

This one blew me away. Even the “bonus disc” of instrumentals was great. It’s a serious compliment to hold my attention for 106 minutes and at the end I’m disappointed there’s not even more. Best Beatles solo album by a landslide.

Gorgeous

Hitazo: My sweet lord Canción favorita: What is life

One of, if not the best solo album from a beatle

To think that GH created this album at the tender age of 27 … The last song recorded on Let it Be was GH’s I Me Mine (ha!) and then GH releases ATMP!! The cover speaks volumes of what GH must have been feeling when he released it … three toppled garden gnomes and GH in a chair …, first triple album in Rock History simultaneously occupying both #1 Album and Single an amazing and influential work!!

Excellent album! 5 out of 5. Interesting to listen to early versions on Beatles Anthology and Get Back projects. Of course, if you hate the Beatles and 60's and 70's, you won't like this album.

GOAT Harrison

Awesome

Great stuff, good jams on the third disc and several awesome songs across the first two that still catch the spirit 50 years later.

What a fucking great album. I loved every song. I didn’t listen to the other disks but Isn’t it a pity almost got me in tears!

that good good groove

Amazing. Love the instrumentation on here. Also love the songwriting. We miss you George.

hare krishna, krishna krishna.....

SO GOOD. Honestly might be my favorite post-Beatles solo album. There's just an insane amount of amazing, creative songs here. It's super long but never feels overstuffed.

Big fan. Some really good lesser known songs. Remastered version songs weren't too special.

Its 2 hours long... but go off!

People who say this is crap because it's all "stuff the Beatles wouldn't do" are crap themselves. This is fucking phenomenal, start to finish.

One of the greatest albums of the early 70s, All Things Must Pass is three records of the kind of music the Beatles couldn't even imagine making. It's pop, but it's also psychedelic. It is rooted in the British Invasion, but also Indian Mysticism. It's one flaw is that it is a record too long. The Apple Jam side has a lot of, well, jams that may not appeal to everyone. That said, the first two sides are absolutely brilliant. The next two sides, which include alternates of some of the side 1/2 songs, is merely great, and sides 5/6 are not for everyone's tastes but, if they are, also great, in large part because they presage the jam band era by 20 years.

One of my favorites

One of the best albums of all time. Despite its length it never bored me.

Quite simply one of the greatest albums ever recorded. There is quality and there is quantity. Though I could do without the Apple Jam third disc.

Spectacular songwriting displayed throughout.

There are few albums that qualify as masterpieces, yet "All Things Must Pass" is one of them. Just over 50 years on, it still stands as a magnificent record. To think this was Harrison's first release in the aftermath of the biggest band in the world's breakup is even more stunning. Always in the shadow of one of the greatest songwriting partnerships in musical history, the quiet Beatle announced himself as a musical force in his own right with this triple album. Harrison's stature allowed him to invite collaborations with some of the best musical forces of his era or all time, for that matter. The result is simply one of the greatest LPs of all time with the statistics and achievements to support that claim.

Very good post-Beatle stuff

The talent he displays and the talent he brought along on so many of these tracks... incredible! A triple album I want to buy, need to buy.

Favourite tracks: my sweet lord; wah wah; isn't it a pity; what is life; if not for you; behind that locked door; all things must pass; plug me in; thank you for the pepperoni; out of the blue; I remember keep; apple scruffs; let it down; I'd have you anytime

BL: this is an album that has a level of infamy for me. Despite never listening to this one it’s been regarded as one of the greats for the longest time, my dad loves this album and I know plenty of others have that know me. So it’ll be interesting to hear the album of a post-beatle that isn’t Lennon or McCartney AL: wow. What a listen. This was truly a white whale of an album. Being such a long record but keeping consistency is such a feat. While some lyrical content is simplistic the wonder contained within it is emotive enough to make up for it. Absolutely loved this, probably on a running for my favourite album of all time within the first listen. All of the guitar parts and the mixing is absolutely superb. FT: “wah-wah”, “if not for you”, “apple scruffs”, “all things must pass”, “hear me lord”, “plug me in”, “thanks for the pepperoni” 5/5

A phenomenal album, full of great tracks and a regrettable third disc that is lame. This is the backlog of George's music from writing in the intense creativity hotspot of the Beatles' recording studio, but overshadowed by the prodigious output of John and Paul. Those years of behind the scenes writing and only getting a couple songs onto Beatles albums gave us the crystallization of the best ideas he had over that period in this album. If only the Beatles had found a way to work stay together, I can't even imagine how these tracks would have developed without all their input. Amazing stuff.

This is so good. 5 stars.

Instrumental platan er augljóslega síst, en Out of the blue er þess virði að hlusta á oft.

Each side of this six-sided monster is a stone cold 5.

Bien pour du background

El mejor de todos los que tocaron hasta ahora. Se caen apenitas los últimos temas del segundo disco, pero sigue siendo sublime.

I always thought I wasn’t a “George girl” but listening to this all the way through I realized that was definitely not true (until I got to “I Dig Love” because what was that?!). “My Sweet Lord” has always been one of my favorite songs, and I always liked the singles from this album for the most part, but there are some real gems on here. “If Not for You,” “Run of the Mill,” “Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll),” and “Hear Me Lord” are new favorites for me. I will be listening to a lot of songs on repeat for the new few weeks. Maybe I’m a George girl after all.

This masterpiece—to me, an admitted George disciple—outshines even the pinnacle of the many perfect Beatles records.

I usually hate long albums and fortunately you can cut out the jams at the end since they are non-essential. Still I've been a huge George Harrison fan for a long time and I absolutely love this album. I know so many of the songs. Pleasure to listen to again.

One of my favorites

This is a masterpiece of an album. I really liked the ideas presented throughout in the form of a 1-2 punch of George's songwriting and self-expression post-Beatles breakup along with the various artists involved such as Bob Dylan, Clapton, Gary Wright, and even Phil Collins among others. Unfortunately, I felt there to be small filler here and there, along with me not really liking the Apple Jams recordings on here. Pushing that aside, I was completely captivated by what this had to offer as a former Beatles-hater just for the sake of edginess.

Harrison had been stockpiling songs while in the Beatles for the prior two years, several of them rejected by the McCartney-Lennon duo. Immediately upon McCartney announcing his departure, Harrison went to work on recording this triple album, bringing in the best musicians of the era to back him up, including Derek and the Dominos. Produced with Phil Spector, he employs his signature wall of sound, creating a very full and lush effect that matches his gospel influences and empowers many of his songs. On top of all that, Harrison and his vocals, songwriting, and guitar playing are still at the forefront, with plenty of instrumentals to appreciate, especially with how many techniques and instruments he himself employs. Many songs like "Art of Dying" retain the signature Beatles chord progression, making it both familiar and accessible to Beatles fans. The styles here are surprisingly diverse. The first half is full of pop songs. Some are sunshiney ("If Not For You", "Run of the Mill"), some are emotionally heartfelt ("Isn't It a Pity"), some are religious and powerful ("My Sweet Lord" evokes techniques we've since with the Beach Boys "God Only Knows"), and some are bluesy hard rock songs ("Wah-Wah", "Let It Down"). And despite these styles, they all have catchy choruses and melodies that get stuck in your head. With so many musicians and so many instruments being played, each song stands out in its own way, taking from blues, country, folk, and gospel. The second half follows the same themes, except a bit milder and more focused yet less catchy. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. With an album that goes on so long, it still manages to captivate you. I think the track listing overall works pretty well in his favor, and honestly mirrors what the Smashing Pumpkins will do in their Mellon Collie album which shares many features: an off intro track to set the mood, a dramatic drawn-out satisfying closer, all the catchy pop tracks near the front to pull in audiences, maintaining diverse styles on both sides to keep it interesting, making the second half the same but tamer. It's the best approach to get most listeners to enjoy both halves. Both of them even place just one hit in the middle of the second half ("All Things Must Pass" and "1979"). It's a spectacular effort by Harrison, and maintains a candidate for the best Beatles solo album against RAM and Band on the Run. His next album Living in the Material World is more of the same but not as strong. And after that, it's a shame he never really put out another great album again, although he would have a few more hits.

George Harrison released this as a triple album, and still had another double album worth of material left over that he just didn't release. I didn't know that Phil Spector produced this album (alongside Harrison), but it makes sense because it sounds amazing and incredibly full. The tone on his slide guitar, in particular, stands out as one of the most iconic sounds on this album. The songs are great, the lyrics are personal an accessible. The only real criticism I could make of this album is that it probably could have been a couple of albums, rather than just one huge one, but at the same time, he gave all that he had when he made this one. That goes a long way to explaining why this is the best solo album made by any Beatles member 5/5

The best solo album by the best Beatle. The first six songs are absolute classics and it's amazing how George Harrison brought together all of these stars in to play on his album. If the Beatles had sounded like this more often, I would probably like them a lot more. I could have gone without the instrumentals at the end of the album though.

One of my favourites. Wouldn't be a popular opinion, but I think it might be the best 'Beatles' album

Hands down the best post-Beatles solo release.

Beautiful

Harrison's masterpiece. Wore the grooves out of this back in the day.

Truly a great record. It's everything, it's brilliant, it's tender, it's transcendent, it's focused and it's sprawling. A truly transcendent record from one of the best.

Brilliant. Strongest post Beatles album where all the songs that he’d built up over the previous few years were released in one glorious go.

The best post Beatles album.

This album is way too long, features way too much guitar slides and has a completely unnecessary instrumental section at the end. 5 stars

The best Beatle.

One of the best albums of all time, an absolute masterpiece

Love this album. Beware of darkness is one of my fave songs ever and also inspired one of my favorite ALBUMS ever 🫣

Classic/10

Fantastic album. This album proves that George was worthy of being a former Beatle.

I’ve been looking forward to a George Harrison album for quite a while because I like all of the Beatles music he made and a couple solo songs including my sweet lord (which is also one of my favorites on this album) and this didn’t disappoint. This album feels like an explosion of George’s creative energies that we’re kinda bottled by John and Paul in the Beatles. It’s 2 hours long and some of the songs really feel like they were Beatles songs that never made the cut for some reason. That’s not to say they’re bad though, this whole album was thoroughly enjoyable even if the second half did sag more than the first. My sweet lord, let it down, and hear me lord we’re my top three on an album that was flush with bangers.

So good

I love the Beatles but hadn't listened to this album before. I love it, I can't believe it took me this long to give it a listen!

If you take the Apple Jam album and think of that as a bonus disc, then the rest is a five star album.

The older I get the more I appreciate the quiet Beatle - the profundity of his lyrics, the virtuosity of his guitar playing, the simplicity of his melodies.

I agree with the assessment that this is probably the best post-Beatles solo album from the group (although I personally love McCartney by Paul McCartney). The only real downside is the length, which can be tiring if you aren't in a good spot to settle in for the full album. For the first two discs there isn't a single skip, every song is beautifully recorded and a joy to listen to (I guess you could argue against including 2 versions of "Isn't it a Pity"). I'm torn on disc 3. It was included as a "free" disc with the rest of the album, and is just a collection of loose jams - albeit jams with some absolutely amazing musicians. The real miss is "It's Johnny's Birthday", although it's just a brief interlude. Overall, I don't think it takes away from the album as a whole.

Beautiful

An important album making an important statement regarding George Harrison's status post-beatles as a force to be reckoned with.

Great album. A little something of everything. I didn’t need Apple Jam T the end but it was still good. This deserves repeat listening.

What a masterpiece. Truly just shows how good Harrison was and what he was capable of with nothing stopping him. His greatest albums for sure but even one of the best “Beatles” albums I think as well. I love so many songs of this album it’s hard to count, 2 hours just flys by when you listen to this one, really enjoyed listening to this front to back again. 10/10

With this album George Harrison was finally able to let it all out what he had in him - after he was allowed only 1 or 2 songs on the Beatles albums as he worked in the shadows of the biggest geniuses of the 20th century, Lennon and McCartney. And the result was a triple album with 4 sides of so many great songs and 2 other sides of groovy guitar jamming. The fantastic production - which may be the finest work of Phil Spector - creates a big, lush, and very atmospheric sound throughout the whole record. This album is too great not to give it five stars as it deserves.

This album is very interesting. It came out as the Beatles were breaking or already broken up. This to me is an incredible revenge record. Even though it’s very spiritual, it is George showing John and Paul that they should have paid more attention to him. He assembled quite the supergroup. But none of that would matter if the songs weren’t there and they were. This album is a roller coaster. There’s a great mix of very spiritual songs and rockers. The last half of the jams is just fun.

George Harrison is a creative genius. Maybe the best Beatle. I love the melodies, guitar riffs, and paradoxical simultaneous simplicity and complexity. My sweet lord is maybe one of the best rock songs of all time.

Can you say epic? George Harrison is literally the master.

Hot take: this is the best Beatles solo album

Favorite songs: I’d have you anytime What is life Let it down All things must pass I dig love I love his slide playing and his vocals. Realizing now how influential this sound was. Dreamy quality to a lot of the music. I like all the reverb and the Phil Spector wall of sound makes it sound big and spacey at the same time. I like all the jammy stuff at the end on the third disc too. Lots of great musicians on here -Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Allan White, Pete Drake, Ginger Baker. So much great stuff on here but not perfect. I like all the imperfections but there are definitely some things that are lost in translation to digital streaming format. Its a lot to be listened to straight and probably doesn’t need two versions of “isn’t it a pity.” 5

I’m one of those that firmly believe this is the best post-Beatles album any of them created. While John and Paul spent years recording every idea they could put together, George’s ideas were largely seen as lesser than works that didn’t quite deserve the same attention. Thankfully, George seemingly held onto those ideas and put them all here instead. An ambitious album that never gets lost in its own ideas, all you have to do is press play and enjoy the ride. Isn’t It a Pity is so beautiful, particularly the second time around, that it alone is enough to warrant 5 stars.

A very nice and relaxing album, loved it.

Fantastic album Fav song is a hard one. I'd Have You Anytime is one of the most beautiful love songs ever

great songs at first listen : my sweet lord (eh) isn’t it a pity i live for you run of the mill beware of darkness ballad of sir frankie crips (let it roll) all things must pass hear me lord great album 8/10 a bit long……………

This one certainly went into extra innings, but man it was an unbridled blast of pent up creativity! it's such a great work of collaboration and exploration, and here it all works so well to make an album you really like listening to. I loved this. You go, George!

I wasn’t fully sure what I was in for, especially considering the length of the album, but it hit me just right today. I very much enjoyed it as a whole, but not such a fan of the long instrumentals.

Other than My Sweet Lord, I hadn't heard anything on this album that I can recall. It is long and there's a lot to take in for one day. My immediate reaction is that there are maybe a couple too many long instrumental jams (maybe...) but some very sparkly gems in here as well. I think that after a bit of time with this one, it will rank among my favorites.

I haven’t listened to much George Harrison. I wasn’t really excited to discover I would be listening to a triple album of his songs. I was pleasantly surprised when listening to this that it was very enjoyable, and despite its long length packed mostly with great music and very little filler. I guess George had a lot of music ready to bust out after the breakup of the Beatles. Loved the easygoing slide guitar driven country-ish feel to the album. The other musicians are great too. No surprise to find out from the Wikipedia article who they were. Great album. Didn’t mind the extended length or the extended Apple Jams - they made great background music while I worked today.

All that pent up frustration came out in this great album. Nice one George.

Love this album. Showed me George Harrison's key place in the Beatles. Has one of few religious songs I love. Lovely compositions.

one of my favorites ever. i love this album more than words.

2/23- Driving around Cranberry during nice weather The best solo album of any Beatle, George delivers his years of unreleased and unappreciated work from his time with the Fab Four as a masterclass of music. With Spector with him at the helm, George is able to cultivate love and the beauty of everything- even suffering- into songs that touch the deepest part of the listener’s heart. Some of these songs transport back to past moments in my life, and they hold so much emotion that I almost relive the exact experience that I felt back then. My first five star album from this site, and I’m so thankful I was given the opportunity to listen to this album again today.

Was super impressed by this album. Very rarely will I listen to a double album all the way through and this kept me entertained throughout. Will be listening again for aure

George was artistically constipated and he was finally able to let it out here. Must've felt fantastic. The Wall of Sound is gorgeous, both enormous and intricately crafted. Despite its length, I think this may be a perfect album (excluding the Apple Jam disc that is - not really sure why that was included honestly). At the very least it's the most consistently solid album from song to song by any ex-Beatle (again excluding the Apple Jams). This had its first major reissue when I was in college, and we listened to it on repeat.

None of the individual Beatles were ever as good as the whole, but this is the probably the best of their solo efforts.

Wonderful. Didn' expect it to be this enjoyable. And psychedelic! Highlights: Isn't It a Pity, Let It Down, Out of the Blue, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)

this immediately enterted top 10 albums ever

I was blown away by how consistent this album. Song after song is of the highest quality. George Harrisons's burst of creativity on his first solo album is amazing the fact that it stretches over 6 full side of a triple album is incredible. Now I came to this album late first listen was only a few years ago, however I knew many of the songs from the Concert for Bangladesh which I absorbed at a very young age thanks to my older sister. I love that album. But still I was shocked at just how great this album is. Side one is just perfect in my books. The only criticism I would offer is sides 5 and 6 get a little jammy and perhaps less song oriented, though the first song of side 5; Out of the Blue, is great, its just the other three songs are a little long and overwrought. But this is a minor criticism of a no-brainer 5 star album.

Doubtlessly the finest hour of any post-beatle. George's songwriting really shines on here and there is a brilliant intimacy established, incredible due to how huge some of the arrangements are. The first two discs are singer-songwriter perfection, while the underrated "apple jam" disc is looser, backed by an all-star cast. Overall, an almost two hour epic of utter beauty. An essential record.

70s at its finest

Beautiful

Pretty great album. Not sure it is full on Beatles quality but it has some amazing pieces. 4.5/5

I can't stop listening! I've never really new George as an artist apart from beatles, it's incredible! So delicate and smart, love it!

2 hours album.. too long for one sitting that’s for certain. That being said this is a very good album. I appreciate the parts of Beatles on their own much more than when they sing together. Also I really enjoyed the instrumentals ngl Saved tracks: My Sweet Lord, What Is Life, If Not For You, Beware Of Darkness, Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), Awaiting On You All, I Remember Jeep

Unless the latter two-thirds of the album is just "Revolution 9" redux for an hour and a half I can already safely agree with those who claim this is the best solo Beatle album Took me three sessions to get through this one due to life and kids. Basically one record each session (but streamed because I don't have this one). Going in, I wondered if the length of it may be detrimental at all, but it most certainly isn't. Front to back this thing is packed with absolute goodness - and I don't believe that's the bias of George being my favourite Beatle speaking. The man could write amazing songs. Shame on Paul and John for shunning them, but also yay for us - because this got put out into the world. Not a wasted moment on here. "It's Johnny's Birthday" may be a bit of a lark, but it's short enough that it doesn't grow tiresome. And the Apple Jams after two discs of great songs may well be my favourite part of the album. Five stars; must acquire.

Best solo beatles album? maybeeeee

This is a great album that I've already spent a lot of time listening to. I really wasn't expecting to add every song from the first disc as a standout but as I was re-listening to it, I couldn't help it, I really do love all those songs. The only constructive criticism I have for this album is that I think it was kind of frontloaded. A lot of the second disc feels like jams or more b-side level songs, which aren't bad but would be less noticeable if they scattered them over two discs among the incredibly strong tracks on the first disc. Standout Tracks: I'd Have You Anytime, My Sweet Lord, Wah-Wah, Isn't It A Pity (Version 1), What Is Life, If Not For You, Behind That Locked Door, Let It Down, Run Of The Mill, Beware Of Darkness, Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), Awaiting On You All, Plug Me In.

Just hands down the best thing produced between the 4 Beatles post breakup. What Is Life in particular is such an incredible triumph. I realize its widespread usage in romantic comedy trailers, but somehow it’s only gained power over the years. I write this the week that the trailer came out for Are You There God It’s Me Margaret came out, which uses this song to amazing effect.

Classic from beginning to end. , he sure had a backlog of material. But it was Dhani who brought the focus to “Let It Down”, truly an incredible love song, really top shelf lyrics

Virtually flawless, with the only issue being that it is maybe too long - especially the extended version (and even more so the other version on Spotify - which is over 4 hours long!). My sweet Lord is one of the prettiest songs ever, and so is so much of the album. Hard to believe some of these were rejected from Beatles albums - although they weren't struggling for songs I suppose!

What a great album. I've listened to this when i was a young child of. A lot of nastalgia for me. Probably the best Solo album of all the beatles

1001 album a day tries to kill me with a Stevie double album followed by a Georgie triple album the next day. It's a bloody good job they are both fabulous. Very much enjoyed the 50th anniversary thing last year, especially after watching Get Back recontextualised the whole thing. Watching George working on several of these songs during those sessions, entirely reasonably floating the idea of breaking off to do some solo stuff and then coming back to the band, because at this point he was bleeding well busting with classic songs. The first 5 songs are of such unbelievably high quality, you do understand why Maxwell Silver Hammer gets mauled, taking the place of one of these beauties, and they were struggling for songs to put on Let it Be. Erm? I would respectfully suggest anyone who thinks this is sub-Beatles stuff go back and listen to the Let It Be album again. I think of the Apple Jam sessions as bonus material, much like the EP in Songs in the Key of Life, so I'm entirely unbothered if it's just jam noodles. Also, the jams are good. It's true that while they're all good, not all the tracks are of such high standard as the first 5 tracks, both brilliant versions of Isn't It A Pity, the title track, Hear Me Lord and Beware of Darkness, but an album with such a high hit rate of five star tracks, gets five stars. That's it, that's the rule.

Alternate title: The Emancipation of George Harrison. The Most Criminally Underappreciated Beatle (a title that still applies even after decades of people recognizing his greatness) had a lot to get out of his system after leaving. It sounds like catharsis, and it's a lot, especially the final tracks, but it works. Best track: My Sweet Lord

All in all a very mellow Album. But such sweet melodies!

Timeless

excelente, direito a bluezao jam no fim

It always astounds me when an album this damn long can be this damn good. I think this now sits firmly as my favorite post-Fab Four Beatle album.

A beast of an album. I actually think it is a bit much all together, but the sounds throughout firmly earn it a 5.

This is the correct answer to the desert island disc question

Chocolate Harrison is my favorite Beatle. I'm glad he love jeep as much as I love him. If we could do half stars I'd knock half a star off because this album is way too long. But I'm not going to shortchange Georgie Porgie

HL: “Frankie Crisp”, the title track, “My Sweet Lord”, “If Not For You”, “What is Life”, “Awaiting on You All” Shame that All Things Must Pass is classified as a triple album, and not a double + bonus record. Would help with expectations. Well, I love this album to bits. Definitely not first listen but some songs (Apple Scruffs, Art of Dying in particular) stuck out today, where in the past they’d be overlooked for the classics.

Amazing album. Shows Harrison was a powerhouse that helped propel the Beatles become legends.

top 5 best albums ever made

I could listen to this album every day. And every day would be better for it.

Loistava. Suosikkeja: My Sweet Lord, Let It Down, Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), Awaiting On You All, I Dig Love, Art Of Dying, Hear Me Lord

Wah Wah is an amazing song!

CLASSIC GEORGE BEST BEATLE BANGER AFTER BANGER Even Pitchfork gave this a 9/10 Awaiting On You All

um dos meus álbuns preferidos

Context is everything when it comes to this album; George had been pushed aside creatively during his time with the Beatles and wrote a massive amount of music from 1966 to their ultimate disbanding in 1970. All that writing led to this triple LP punch showcasing what George is truly capable of as a songwriter. But as with the Beatles (and by extension its individual members), what else can be said that hasn't already? I guess it’s simply this; it’s amazing to hear George in full on his own. Any Beatles track he had credit on was always a treat (While My Guitar Gently Weeps or I Me Mine for example) so it’s incredible to hear him, no strings attached. The instrumental tracks on the Apple Jam disc showcase his guitar skills unlike anything else prior to me; plus he brings in an incredible list of studio musicians to jam with. Since it’s a long album, here are two of my top song picks. “Behind That Locked Door” just stuck with me even after playing the rest of the album; the slide guitar gracefully glides between the organ and George’s dubbed harmonies. It all makes for a sweet and easy listening experience. For my other pick I have to go for one of the jams; “Plug Me In” is such a fun honky-tonk/rockabilly jam session with Eric Clapton jumping in for a solo…or two. Honorable mention to “Let It Down;” it opens on a hard hitting wall of sound that transitions to a calming verse, it’s a really interesting dichotomy when listening.

Great album! Love George Harrison. Stand out tracks are 'My Sweet Lord', 'What Is Life', 'If Not For You'. Liked the (Apple) Jam sessions as well. 5/5

Aw I just recently listened to this and I really really love it. Love u George-y <3 hate u Yoko

Let It Roll, All Things Must Pass, Isn't It A Pitty y I'd Have You Anytime son muestra de lo gran músico y letrista que era.

Such a lovely album. What is life is such an incredible song.

Released a year after the Beatles’ break up, this album shows just how much songwriting George Harrison was doing. His music oscillates between the more guitar driven and even jam based stuff and the more contemplative Dylan and country influences music. Harrison focuses much of his lyrics on his faith and one can’t help but feel his sincere devotion to it. Production wise, this might be Phil Spector’s finest work. The songs feel big and inhabited by a lush and full instrumentation. This is a triple album and is exceptionally long. The final few tracks are more jam based and being to tax the listener a bit. However, this album is just too good, especially in the wake of a career as a Beatle, not to give it five stars.

This was a surprise, what a great album!

Sunrise doesn't last all morning...

I love the Beatles but I had never listened to this mainly because I thought it would all sound like My Sweet Lord. Thankfully it does not. George wrote some strong and thoughtful tracks and the musicians he surrounded himself with are excellent. Even the Bob Dylan song is a good one!

Alt i alt solidt.

En svær en. Jeg kan godt lide sing and song stemningen med lidt Beatles klang, men det bliver samtidig lidt kedeligt, specielt på disk 2. Det bliver til en meget lille 4'er

Too long but I guess when you’re a Beatle you can do that

First track is forgettable. My Sweet Lord is such a good track. Ooh, I like Wah Wah - nice garage-y psch use of the wah. Isn't it a Pity is a nice kind of bittersweet song. I think I'm seeing that George Harrison may be my favourite songwriter of the beatles. His solo stuff is like the best of the beatles. What is Life has a very kind of 60s pop feel - think Everylasting Love. Let it Down is very theatrical, almost like a movie soundtrack. Bonus tracks on the linked remaster are great too. Acoustic Let it Down keeps the vibe with stripped back instrumentals. What is Life instrumental shows off the song writing nicely. Apple Scruffs is also a sweet little song Plug Me In comes in as a harder rock song and shakes things up again. This album is full of twists and turns. Out of the Blue is a fun improv, but I can't tell what GH is actually doing here. Best track - My Sweet Lord (even if I already knew it it's still worth it if nothing else stands out), Wah Wah, What is Life (original or instrumental), Out of the Blue 4 stars - it hasn't given me any new earworms, but it kept me interested over a long run-length and it has shown me that Harrison is a really great songwriter

Altogether excellent, but it's true that it's entirely too long. Like anything sweet, a little tastes good, but too much and it gives you a belly ache.

"My Sweet Lord" makes me immeasurably happy each time I come across it. It's not for the lyricism, there are all of 10 lyrics, or the dynamic changes, it is just a great song. And adding in "What is Life" makes me question what John and Paul were thinking by passing up these songs for Beatles albums. Special shout out to the absurd riff on What is Life....he should have added 6 or 7 more verses just so we could hear the riff a few more times. Overall the album is absolutely lovely if perhaps a little long.

Tough call. Some very good stuff on here but also just a lot of filler.

Too long indeed but up there with the best stuff the Beatles or any of their members put out

Way too long, but pretty good still.

He’s like a calm rock artist and his music feels like a morning with a calm gold sky that has birds flying. 9/10

Rode my bicycle to the Closter K Mart to buy this one.

George might well be my favourite Beatle, maybe that’s owed to my parents’ having one of his albums on cassette tape in rotation for in long car journeys but it wasn’t this album. Sweet Lord is a classic but it was the only track I knew from here; I was concerned the length of the album may put me off but I enjoyed every minute, particularly some of the jams on disc 2.

So many songs. I'm speechless.

Buen disco. Top 3 canciones: My Sweet Lord (obvio), If Not For You y, mi favorita, I Live For You.

Muy bonito. El otro mejor Beatle, un gigante a la sombra de dos titanes. Para guardar: My sweet lord, Wah-Wah y What is life en sus dos versiones.

Never listened to this in full and I'm glad I did! This album feels like the last act of a film where the protagonist puts everything together and their life changes for the better. Mind you, when I say this, I'm speaking of the FEELING it evokes. Overall, I liked it a lot, played it twice in a day, so that says something.

Listened to this in the original release order per some of the other reviews on here, and I do think that it's the better choice, and it makes it a slightly shorter listen! At first I was not into this at all, "My Sweet Lord" is not my thing and the first few tracks were a slot to get through. Once the religious vibes backed off a bit and we got into more slide guitar territory though it got much better. "Isn't It A Pity?" "If Not For You" "Let It Down" "Run of the Mill" "All Things Must Pass" and "I Dig Love" were the standouts for me

Already listsned to this one a while ago and loved it!

A bit of editing couldn't have hurt, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and blame this on the fact that this album was remastered in 2014.

It was good something i was not really into but I could see the magic behind it it made me feel i will listen to it again some day

Likely my first introduction to George Harrison, and this one delivers.

Some goods songs I knew but didn't know they were George Harrison. 3.5

Generational talent and bangers. I always thought this was his 1st album but not true. Said it debuted his slide guitar style. I always loved George because he could play any style. He didn't get locked into one rhythm pattern or sound. All those 10,000 hours playing ever cover song known to man paid off.

This album has been so thoroughly dissected by the Wikipedia article and the reviewers here that I won't make too much of an effort but for my own notes. Wonderful, without exception Overlong, by a good measure. Should have been two albums, each with some bonus material George, without a shadow of a doubt, was the BEST Beatle There are three versions of the album on Tidal, none of which match the original release very well. I listened to the version I thought most resembled the original, and still felt like I was compromising the experience. I don't think I'm considering Apple Jam as part of the album. While enjoyable on its own, it's kind of non-sequitur. Especially so, when considering how much it adds to the ONE HUNDRED AND SIX MINUTE runtime of the album. That's just too much

Disk 1 is a clear cut 5/5. But it's over 2 hours long and the backside is kinda weird. Will come back for Disk 1 for sure tho

pretty good, loved "i live for you," "let it down," "run of the mill" and apple scruffs. listened to the 2014 remaster side 2 is better so far - 'art of dying,' 'i dig love,' 'awaiting on you all' and 'apple scruffs'

Definitely good vibes

Great but far too long.
