Reviews (page 8 of 14)

4/5⭐️ Best song: Smile Like You Mean It Worst song: Everything Will Be Alright Comments: One of my mum’s favourite bands! We used to listen to this CD in the car almost every day, a family favourite for sure

Rock alternativo y new wave. 2 megahits. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

klassiker

un bon nombre de classiques

Good lord, this album will be twenty years old in two months and I still think of it as new music. Time makes fools of us all. I am not prepared to weigh in on whether this was the last great rock record or just Imagine Dragons 1.0. This albums is ambitious and incredibly well-produced and has hooks for days. It also doesn’t hurt that it came out at a time when I was ready to fall in love with an album like this. Listening to it now, twenty years later, it still sounds great to me.

Rumor has it she is still calling a cab to this very day.

Not their best but still amazing

I like Dad-Rock. Maybe not so dad and not so rock, but I like it.

this feels like one of the albums from my high school senior year that would play in the background of a bunch of memories, highlighting situations that seemed like they were world ending but today feels like I can laugh it off. They got a couple long lasting hits on this one, but the rest of the album has some good hits too. thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Lots of good songs on here. I’ve never really given the Killers a chance before but I enjoyed it. “All these things that I’ve done” is a bop!

"Glamorous indie rock and roll, [...] it's all I need"

I would say, if anything, this LP is like a paean to teenage angst - love, lust, loss, carefree excitement. It worked for the mood I was in. The mixing is a little overly loud, but not ear shattering, and everything that is meant to be heard can be. "Mr. Brightside" has been played to death and is nowhere near the best song on this project. But do you also play the tambourine and go hard?

I always liked there songs. Good listenable album. I still consider them a new band.

Liked the hits on this album when I first heard 'em and always thought I’ll give a deeper listen one of these days…20 years later…

Wirklich gute Musik.

Enjoyed it

I knew that The Killers exist, but they somehow stayed under my radar. I enjoyed listening to the album.

By far their best

Idk maybe because I grew up listening to this album I don't appreciate it as much

Love The Killers!

I actually own this album. It's got two great songs and the rest are fine.

On first listen to the album I knew the band would do great..

GREAT love it

Jenny Was A Friend of Mine through to All These Things That I’ve Done is a crazy run, especially on a debut album. Nothing else on the album stacks up to that first half, but it’s definitely worth the price of admission. Incredibly catchy and instantly something you can sing along to, no surprise hits like Mr Brightside continue to see play even 20 years on.

I really liked the songs, but thought the instrumentation was a bit heavy handed. But, in general, I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked the music from a band with such a distasteful name.

One of the best albums of the early 00's Lots of well deserved airplay at the time. Strong lyrically and musically

Cute 'fus > hot 'fus There's lots of fillers but the greatest songs are iconic. Beautiful first half.

I like this album. First half is better than the second. I forgot that I love the song, On Top!

that was good, I guess I was in the mood

mr. darkside

Amazing! Hard to believe there are so many pop/rock hits on one album. Reminds me of albums released in '73 - not style as much as good solid music.

Good overall. 3.5/5

Love this album. It came out in 2004, the same year I graduated high school, so I definitely listened to the three singles on this album A LOT during that time. I think Mr. Brighside will live on as an online trope of sorts ("coming out of my cage and I've been doing JUST FINE") and I will never fail to scream/sing along to it anytime I hear it. All These Things That I've Done is probably my favorite from this album.

Such a good album. "All These Things I've done," "Somebody Told Me," and "Mr. Brightside" are amazing songs. The rest of the songs are good, but never quite reach the heights of these three.

First half is an absolute banger. Second half is meh

Pop rock at its absolute best. Hot Fuss takes me straight back to nights out in my youth. Loud, confident, full of hooks and impossible not to sing along to. It captures that mid 2000s indie disco energy perfectly, with big choruses and sharp, driving rhythms. Jenny Was a Friend of Mine is a brilliant opener. Dark, punchy and instantly engaging. The album is packed with top tunes and feels cohesive from start to finish. It balances swagger with melody really well and never loses its momentum. There are one or two tracks that do not quite hit the same heights, but overall this is a cracking debut and still sounds great. Favourite song: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Least favourite song: On Top Album artwork: Great cover. Clean, stylish and instantly recognisable. I love it

So many forgotten bangers, especially at the front end. Bass line is 🔥

Great album! Includes one of the most iconic cult favourite song Mr Brightside, I've added quite a few of their other songs to my playlist. Overall I did enjoy listening this album

Really liked this one, some well know bangers but some great songs I hadn’t heard before. Excellent album.

Good Indie Rock album. Sounds like it was made with the explicit purpose of stadium tours in mind rather than just for the artistry.

Enjoyed this when I was younger and still enjoy a lot of this album, a bit more picky nowadays but overall still really like it.

This album is all attitude, and if you like that attitude you'll love this album. Well-crafted songs and lots of fun hooks, a bit snarky/whiny for me as a complete listen. "Somebody Told Me" is a great rockin tune, "Everything Will Be Alright" is my favorite. Flowers reveals his selfawareness in the last track, makes clear they have a sense of humor about it all.

lots of bangers and the others were good too. 4

2/16/24. Millennial classic for me!

Good tunes ...indie music is eclectic but I kinda like it depending on mood. Recognize the band and can relate to a few songs.

Finally! An album worth listening to, was good when it released and has tons of replay value. Catchy tunes, radio hits, and some lesser known gems on this album. Love the Killers (Vegas locals btw ) Took some time off from this album generator because the selection is pretty whack, but back at it and determined to give it another shot after a hiatus.

a band from Las Vegas! Nice sound

Loud, fun, just overall a good fucking album

Hard to imagine this record is already 20 years old. I liked it at the time but did not think it was super special: some big, catchy pop singles, several OK songs and a few fillers. score: 8/10 (should it be on the list? mwah, perhaps)

Well underway for a perfect score but losing that in the second half.

Kuinka paljon tähdityksestä menee nostalgian piikkiin? No, ehkä hitunen.

Was familiar with the radio-singles, but never took a deeper dive. They seem to have taken the best elements of 80s alt-pop and updated the sound. I really like this.

Bardzo przyjemny indie rock. Jedna z bardziej klasycznych płyt z tego gatunku. Niektóre piosenki przywołują wspomnienia z nastoletności. 4/5

Classic listen - how can you not like Mr. Brightside.

The 00s represented a sea change in alternative music to me. Grunge and whatever post-grunge is was on its way out and left room for a number of styles, including dance music infusions like Hot Fuss. This was a shockingly good record from the time that has become a classic of the 00s.

Classic listen, some of the best singles released in my lifetime.

Surprisingly solid for what it is and took me back to my teenage years where this was literally EVERYWHERE.

brandon flowers doesn’t sing, he YELLS. really love the first five songs. the rest is okay. i think this would have changed me brain chemistry had i heard it in high school. 3.5

Well this was ubiquitous throughout my 20's on radio and everywhere else. I had the cd and if you aren't tempted to bounce around at Mr Brightside then I suggest you donate your ears to someone who would make better use of them. A relisten reminds me of how many singles they pumped from this album and the general lack of filler throughout. It's not going to change the world but it's undeniably a strong album of pop/rock.

Some really great tracks on this. My friend is a huge Killers fan so I've developed an appreciation - though I wouldn't call them groundbreaking, they make solid, enjoyable rock.

Aight so everyone obviously knows Mr Brightside. It's a banger. Everyone that denies that is a fool. What I didn't expext is that this album is full of songs that also kinda go bang.

First 5 songs are all bangers tbh, especially Mr Brightside. From there on it gets a bit bland with weaker songs, but the first 5 are just so good that this still deserves a 4. Huge cultural influence as well in this one, not to mention that this was a debut album, which is pretty mad.

I think Mr. Brightside is the song I’ve heard the most that I’ve never intentionally put on. The first half of this album is jam packed but loses steam was it ends. 3.5/5

I have heard Me Brightside and Somebody Told Me way too much so I wasn’t too excited for this album but it was actually really good! Listens: 1 Fave Song: All These Things That I’ve Done Rating: 4

i liked it! i had already heard some of the songs before, and i was very happy to find lots of songs to add to my name playlist. i think my favorite besides the super popular ones was definitely jenny was a friend of mine. not my favorite album but pretty good!

Jenny.... Decent track Mr Brightside - yeah, always liked the song Smile... Another good one Somebody told me - and another All these things... Not great Andy - shit On top - crap Change your mind - quite good Midnight Show - probably the best song I'll give it a 4 for likeability and listenability

Hits and not so hots. Danced-through party night

Amazing

Didn't realize so many of their famous songs were all from one album, kind of crazy

Good classics on there

One of the great rock albums of the last 20 years. 2 monster hits and then just a lot of good guitar based rock music. Love it.

Their best album and a mid 2000s classic. Side one is all hits.

Was murdered by the Killers a few years back. Love this album. Its like the Album generator is just pulling LPs off my wall.

A great record for sure, feels like them at their best while their ideas and motifs were still fresh and inspired. Not something I’ll return to often, but definitely an album that deserves its accolades in music history

A debut album this good is hard to top. So many strong melodies that have lasting power. Almost gave it a 5.

Mr. Brightside is one of the greatest songs of all time. The rest of the album is pretty good too.

Very strong album, surprisingly easy to listen to but one or two misses bring this to 4 stars

A classic, could listen again and again

This was a huge album in my middle-high school years, so it carries some nostalgia points. I think the fact that Mr. Brightside has been in the UK charts consistently since it was released almost 20 years ago (fuck) makes it worthy of inclusion, and the fact that this is just a strong debut album that really captures the early 2000s era only strengthens the case. Seriously, the first 5 tracks are an amazing run of catchy, fun songs. And the back half of the album still has some A+ bangers, “Andy, You’re a Star”, “On Top”, and “Change your mind”. I think there is an argument that the last 3 songs on the album don’t match the quality, and are even just a lesser retread of the ground covered earlier on the album. I think The Killers still pull it off though, and it leaves you with a really solid debut album, with one of the biggest songs of the 2000s.

Blast of nostalgia! Didn’t realize how many great songs were on this album

Jenny was a friend of mine and I've been doing *just fine* Powerful album

not 5 stars like I remember from high school :/

1. I really like this first song 2. A classic obv 3. This one is boring 4. I didn't know this was the same person as Mr brightside 5.

Have heard most of this plenty of times. Not all the way through though.

Bittersweet, this one. It’s fun but also replaced Dixieland Delight for Bama’s Student Song and that’s not cool.

Sehr cooles Album - zweimal durchgehört... wenig bekanntes, viel cooles neues...

The first half is solid. 4 great songs. The second half trails off a bit, but still liked it a lot.

Lyrics are creative. Some of the 80s musical touches can get distracting/annoying.

I liked it

Bass is really forward on some tracks, overall solid listening experience

Was A Friend Of Mine" einfach direkt mitten in mein Herz!

Great Album

First album on the start to the new year and it's one I'm familiar with. Went back and listened to Hot Fuss on my own curiosity last year before starting this project and quite enjoyed it. The first 5 songs, including Brightside, absolutely rip. Very very strong start to a record. Last half is kinda forgettable all things considered.

All the things I've done isy favorite killers song

King of the karaoke, honestly fantastic album, hasn’t aged a day. 4.2

I’d already heard this one for the first time recently, and it’s just as good the second time. Love this album. It’s exactly the kind of indie rock and roll (for me) that I love. While yes, the second half is not nearly as good as the first, the first half makes up for it easily. And I somehow only realized on this listen, but apparently Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine is about a guy confessing to murdering his ex? How I missed that after listening to that song so much is beyond me. Oh and by the way, go listen to the Tally Hall cover of Smile Like You Mean It. It’s so much better, and I’m not just saying that because I love Tally Hall. 8/10 Top 5: 1. Mr. Brightside 2. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine 3. Smile Like You Mean It 4. Somebody Told Me 5. Everything Will Be Alright

Mag ich. Hinten raus ein wenig zu gewollt.

alot of old songs that i didn't know who sang

Yeah okay. Despite having heard the two singles on this album more than my own mother's voice it's decent.

Great song, one after another! Standouts: Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I've Done, Smile Like You Mean it, Somebody Told Me, Andy You're a Star, Jenny Was a Friend of Mine. 4.5

All the songs feel like they could be faster.

Really iconic and a lot of hits on this one album, I can't in good faith go any higher

mr. brightside and somebody told me are amazing, as we all knew. all the other tracks are kinda eh.

Good shit, ikke en 5er imo, men 4,5 verdig

Totally full of bangers that sends me right back to high school. It's nothing groundbreaking but top to bottom very enjoyable early aughts rock.

I'd never heard the back half of this one and I enjoyed it.

You just can't argue it doesn't deserve any more or any less stars

8/10 Surprised this is my first time listening to this in full but the singles were always inescapable. The first half is definitely the strongest and while the latter songs aren't as good most are still enjoyable. They just don't have the same punch as the first five.

This shit EVERYWHERE, introducing indie rock and roll to a bunch of shoreline nerds. One of my sis’s fav bands didn’t realize it was all from the same album. due to nostalgia cannot give unbiased star review but it still slaps

I’ve previously been quoted as saying “Mr Brightside is the greatest song of all time” and I do think that can be true is specific situations: getting ready to go out, wedding dance floors, long car journeys etc. But as an album, on a grey Wednesday morning on the way to work, I was just not in the mood for this.

Holds up. I really do love the album, and I enjoyed listening to it again, but it's difficult for me to give it five stars. I guess I think of the 5th star as being "classic status," and it doesn't feel that way to me. 10 years from now maybe I'll change my mind

Some decent songs, but there’s some filler

Quintessential 2010s album

Mr. Brightside is perfect and the obvious best song on the album. I hadn't heard the complete album before and was pleased by how strong the rest of the tracks were.

00s indie rock classic with at least a couple of bangers

Good. Solid album. Prob. a 4.

It was interesting. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine was fun, Mr Brightside is very well known and cool, the rest were less memorable but still pleasant to listen to.

It's a really enjoyable album this. They got bigger, but this is their best album by a mile.

First half of this record is incredible. 3-5 big hits and great songs. Back half not nearly as good but not terrible either.

An album I grew up with! It was nice to give this album a listen after long enough that I could be more open to it. It's a good album, but the auto-tuney vocals get to me.

Good old alternative Rock. A few Evergreens "Mr. Brightside", "Somebody told me".

Coming out of the gates swinging with some of the most eclectic and powerful ballad-rock known to man. Convincing people everywhere that this is the most British non-British band known to man. We are hit with exceptional levels of lyricism, accompanied by guitar, keyboard, and drum-filled builds. Followed by choirs of rejoice and queen-like chants. The highs and lows are as apparent as with any great album and it’s clear why this band catapulted to the top of pop-power-rock, and then cemented it with a single-version of a song that would power become this generations Don’t Stop Believing. Inexplicably heavy with power-tracks in the first half of the album, and followed up by an adequate finish. Great music!

3rd to last and 2nd to last tracks are really good

I mentally rolled my eyes when this popped up. This album was played. to. death. Not only by the radio but I played it to death too. I listened to his album hundreds of times. I saw them in concert. I understand that the second highest voted global comment is **vomits loudly**, but this album was overplayed for a reason. Relistening to it front to back for the first-time in... a really long time, I was reminded how good it was. I especially enjoyed the lesser-known songs. Great debut album and most definitely deserves to be on this list.

So far the beginning of this album is giving me bops, but I’m only on track 3 so let me chill These things that I’ve done, I’ve heard this before idk where but I definitely know this song. Wait I know where I’ve heard this! From that music channel on Apollo lol. Dang this album is so high energy

Several nostalgic bangers.

Nostalgie pur

Lots of catchy songs but there's someone bloodless about the whole thing.

Slaps just as it did in Gr. 10.

Some huge hits here and some solid ones that I haven't heard much before (Jenny Was A Friend of Mine, Midnight Show). The last two songs suck though! Pretty good album in total.

They remind me a lot of The Cure in the 80s. Solid.

Pretty good actually

It was a lot better than I thought it would be. Big nostalgia hit + some actual good b sides

All these things I’ve done is a killer!

Definitely a top heavy album, but I really like it 4/5

Great album that stands the test of time and contains two of the arguably biggest rock songs of the early 2000s

Begin is geniaal daarna kabbelt het rustig verder.

It's an okay album. Nice songs for in playlists. Singers voice comes off as whining after a while which is unpleasant.

It’s indie rock and roll for me. Honestly kinda a banger

I wonder how the trajectory of my life would have changed if I picked this CD to listen to endlessly when I was 9 years old instead of Switchfoot's The Beautiful Letdown. First time I've actually listened to the whole thing front to back.

Very 2000s, love it

Quintessential 2000s indie rock: Mr Brightside is iconic.

I already was a fan of this album, so I am probably a bit biased. Lost a star because the final track is just awful and abrasive to the ears.

It's a lower four, but I still gotta give it a four. Probably would've been a little more up my alley in middle school or high school, but I still like some songs off of this. I jam with the iconic ones. I enjoyed a good chunk of the album, but the last couple songs kind of lost me, with the last one actually annoying me a bit. But I still think it's good overall. My favourite songs were Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me.

Great “side A”, medium “side B” I think this might be a 10/10 album but the last 4 songs are pretty average. Only space filler…

YAY FINALLY THE FIRST ONE I’VE HEARD BEFORE! I didn’t particularly like it the first time I heard it but I enjoyed quite a few of the songs so definitely at least 7/10. Heard before ever listening: ‘Mr Brightside’, ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ Favourite tracks: ‘Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine’, ‘Smile Like You Mean It’, ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’, ‘Andy, You’re A Star’, ‘Believe Me Natalie, ‘Everything Will Be Alright’ 7/10.

I always loved listening to this album. Mr. Bright side is a universal song of loss, jealousy, and anxiety yet so fun to listen to. Meanwhile All These Things I've Done is a song about being a Mormon and yet I still crank it and sing along. Four stars just based on those two songs.

A slay. Standouts that I hadn’t heard before were “Smile Like You Mean It” and “Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll”

“I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier” Soundet finns där, men låtarna kanske inte alltid bär. Fortfarande superbra.

"And you are a star" song is really good. "Midnight Show" also good.

Damn, hitting me right in the childhood here. Those 4 big singles have been unescapeable since then, and they still hit hard nearly 20 years later, 10/10s the bunch of them. What I was surprised about was how well the rest of the tracks stood up. It's a little frustrating that all the singles are packed at the front of the album though, they could've spread them throughout the tracklist more which would improve the experience. 'Everything Will Be Alright' was maybe the one weak link here, but the rest deserves a listen. A 2000s album that actually deserves it's placement on this list.

This is a classic. Love nearly every track on this album. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine was one of my favorite Killers songs growing up. One of the things that got me closer to Jonny Moon as well -- he was the one who told me the lore behind the music and I found it so interesting. Aw man and of course Mr. Brightside is on this album. Classic track. I feel like this kind of music doesn't really get made too often anymore. This sort of alternative rock. I'm noticing the album cover for the first time. What a cool image with the kanji(?) lit buildings. I wonder where it came from? All These Things That I've Done - 7/10 Good vibe. Really helps uplift me in times of bad. The vocals descend like a staircase in front of a looped background ("yeaaa yeaa"). Like a negative Sisyphus, we're constantly falling but never fallen. The Killers speak so much to me because of the everlasting conflict between my self-hatred and my pleasure at being alive. It's gonna be alright, even after all these things I've done. A good reminder. Solid 9/10.

The Killers make an anthemic post-punk revival record that places a heavy emphasis on heavy synths and emo-esque lyrics and whiny vocals. The songs are insanely catchy, happy and bright to sing, dance, and clap to. The first side is full of generational standards that were still being played at my college parties just a few years ago, cementing its legendary status even decades later. At their worst, it's U2 with interesting synths, or the Smiths but louder. They tend to repeat themselves quite a bit, with songs like "Midnight Show" sounding a bit like a budget "Somebody Told Me." All around a solid record with few forgettable moments and warrants its length, and plenty of ear worms that stand the test of time.

Right up my alley, a lot of good variety. Some slower songs with solid sounds (Everything Will Be Alright), as well as the more fast-paced stuff of their hits (Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me). Overall great to me specifically, though perhaps unpolished in places (which does fit their style anyway). Favorite song: Mr. Brightside. 8/10

The classic Killers album.

Great album

"Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine" was a solid intro song "Mr. Brightside", "Smile Like You Mean It", "Somebody Told Me" and "All These Things That I've Done" are all songs I already know and will always be fab to me. All 4 are fantastic songs and have been songs that have played in my mind throughout my life, which cements how good they really are "Andy, You're A Star" was really... melodic? I think I like it a lot. "On Top" had an unusual beat. I couldn't decide how I felt about it. I dunno, felt like it could've gone a bit harder? maybe. "Change Your Mind" is probably one of my favourites on the album "Believe Me Natalie" wasn't my favourite at first but the instrumentals really brought it up a notch for me "Midnight Show" was also one of my favourites - feel like it could have easily been the album closer. "Everything Will Be Alright", I think, is my least favourite on the album. It doesn't feel like it really fits on the album at all. It feels out of place and of an entirely different genre. "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll" - this song feels it could have been an excellent 1-2 punch closer with "Midnight Show". I think removing "Everything Will Be Alright" would've made this closer ace.

Love this album. Exemplifies everything I love about indie rock of this time

Absolute ripper of a Killers album. always find myself coming back to songs on this album. it docent get a 5 bc the popular songs are mad cap TBH. SMILE LIKE YOU MEAN IT is so good. Ez 4. Borderline 5 tho

I can't believe I missed this one. Almost all these songs are at least good and a bunch kick ass

Ah yes, the album with "the hit." I can't imagine what it's like to have a song so popular that it's inescapable like "Mr. Brightside." For me I think I heard "Somebody Told Me" first, which sounds like you could easily mash the two of them together and no one would notice that they were two different songs. (To be fair I also felt the same way with "Slow Ride" and "Spirit In The Sky", which are sung by two completely different acts. The feel of the songs sound very similar to me for some reason.) Anyway, on to the Killers. I liked this album a lot more than I was expecting to. I did not realize it was their first, but even so it has a lot of really good songs (besides, you know, the one...). Strangely, a couple of songs reminded me of the band fun and their hit "We Are Young." But apart from that I still liked the album a lot more than I was expecting to. I wish there wasn't the autotune on the songs (but that's my problem with all modern music right now, and I can't fault them for something the industry does to death.). One I will listen to again.

The release of Somebody Told Me was a major moment in 2000's rock; it felt familiar to where things were going with pop punk and emo but it was completely different at the same time. The guitar, bass, and drums layered with some synth (especially in the intro) - it was so unique and cool. And then Mr. Brightside did something similar and was equally unique and cool. And I know those songs stand the test of time because almost 20 years later my 14 year old son asked about the former when it came on the radio and my 13 year old daughter asks about the latter anytime she hears it or anything that sounds like the Killers. So how about the whole album? It was groundbreaking and cool, but was it as awesome as those two big singles? All These Things That I've Done was also a pretty big single, and it shows a more operatic, deeper side of The Killers even if it wears on me at times. Their final single Smile Like You Mean It is okay, but it's bested by lesser known tracks like On Top, Change Your Mind (feels like Brit Pop), Midnight Show, and the final track Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll, which is an absolute gem that I just rediscovered (it may be my favorite on the whole album; raw rocking sound). The rest of the tracks are okay and I feel like their follow-up Sam's Town was a more even collection and a better album overall. I own this album and I do enjoy it, but I'm trying to decide if it deserves a 4 or 5. I think it is an undisputed 4 but 5 feels like too much. The two big singles and the last track though, they're 5's on their own.

Best Christian rock band

Man I loved this album when it came out. Gotta see if it still holds up… Opening track, love that bass line. Brings me back! So many hits. It’s very derivative of 80’s British synthpop. But it’s exceptional at that! So much so I think they convinced the whole country they were one of them. For my own personal rating, I have to go solid 4. This is a very good album that brings me back!

This is a pretty solid album.

Hey I liked this, especially the first half.

Classic from my travelling days….

I still remember when this album came out. It truly changed the face of alternative rock by bringing it front and center into the mainstream. Sooo many of these songs dominated the radio waves for weeks, and many are still to this day alt rock "staples". This stands out as a top alternative rock album of the 2000s. It's amazing to return to the whole album all these years later and still find it to be as great as I did then. I can't think of any other 2000s alt rock band that pulled from 80s post punk and new wave sounds quite as much as The Killers did, and it obviously paid off. The Killers have obviously risen to rock stardom in the time since this album, but they have never quite replicated the success they had with this first album. The first half of the album is arguably better than the second half, but the entire thing is still full of slamming, unique instrumentation, engaging lyrics, and unique vocals. An absolutely great listen. I think the weaker second half keeps this from being a 5 for me, but it is certainly in the 4s.

Off to a flying start, dips away towards the end. Definitely some of The Killers best songs, but not their best album.

I really like this kind of music, the first half of the album slaps but the second half falls off. Top Tracks: 1) Mr. Brightside (obviously) 2) Smile Like You Mean It 3) All These Things That I’ve Done 4) Somebody Told Me 5) Everything Will Be Alright

3 Bangers

The 00s called and said this album is lit. This was one of the headliners of peak Indie.

Pure pop rock fantasticalness throughout. The Killers do wear their influences (mostly The Strokes) on their sleeve, but do inject tons of energy and great melodies into this formula. 8/10

First half of this album is incredible, second half is just pretty good

good album! i really liked the sound and i’m looking for more music like it

A classic of the rock revival of the 2000, Hot Fuss is unpretentious rock music that would for into nearly any era.

Solid album carried almost entirely by 2 songs. 4/5.

Killers “Mr. Brightside” is played to death but still a really great song. Not a fan of “somebody told me”. I think there was another one I didn’t like in there somewhere. I think I hear the influence of The Cure and some of those English post punk new wavey bands. Pretty good band. I liked the drumsand bass playing they both had some pretty interesting tasteful stuff for rock. Liked the last couple songs Indy rock n roll and everything will be alright. Overall it feels to me more like a culmination of a bunch of other bands influence rather than something totally unique or special. Pretty good rock music though 4

The killers are a good band and this is a good record

I don’t know how to rate something like this. After a while all their songs sound repetitive and the lyrics aren’t great. I guess a 2 in my life but a 4 in this world

I hadn’t listened to this album in years but it is something of a modern classic. There are some really good songs here.

Track 1 - Jenny Was A Friend --- i like it, it's boppy and it has an interesting concept. Track 2 - Mr Brightside --- i mean it's iconic we all know this song Track 3 - Smile Like You Mean It -- I like the instrumental, apparently written in 8 mins (as per genius) so that's impressive Track 4 - Somebody Told Me -- boppy, but i've never gotten the lyrics of this lol Track 5 - All These Things I've Done -- a little more boring to me Track 6 - Andy, You're A Star -- this is kinda hilariously sarcastic, honestly olivia rodrigo's lacy's brother...p.s the music kinda cool Track 7 - On Top -- interesting sound, almost electronic-ish, but not my favourite. Track 8 - Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll -- didn't like this one very much Track 10 - Believe Me Natalie -- not loving this one, but the instrumental is ok and the chorus picked up a bit. Track 11 - Midnight Show -- boppy, but why is brandon always writing about murder...kinda weird jk. real cool guitar riff. Track 12 - Everything Will Be Alright -- interesting sound. ok closer.

Day 3 of Albums You Need to Hear Before You Die: Hot Fuss - The Killers Iconic album, I love it so much!! Especially the first half of the album, which is full of classic hits. Crazy that this was their first release and it’s great song after great song. This album got me into rock, just great. Favourite songs - Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It, All These Things I’ve Done, Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll

Despite knowing the Killers’ biggest hits for many years, I’d never listened to Hot Fuss all the way through until now, and I’m not disappointed. “Mr. Brightside” should be reminiscent of high school and/or college for anyone younger than 40, and it probably is to some degree. Of all the songs I could associate with dancing on the rotting 111 table clad only in underwear, this one takes the cake. “Somebody Told Me” is another anthem of 2000s angst that has rightfully stood the test of time. With lines like “When there’s nowhere else to run / Is there room for one more song?” and the iconic chant of “I got soul / But I’m not a soldier” all set to a drumbeat that might just be the collective pulse of the band, “All These Things That I’ve Done” is the most complete song on the album. The Killers have a distinct sound, but from the bubble gum synth of “On Top” to the New Wave influences of “Change Your Mind” to the creepy rattle of “Everything Will Be Alright,” a full listen to Hot Fuss reveals a musical diversity I didn’t expect. It’s not confidential: This album has got more than just potential.

great album!

Extra star for familiarity. Great start, but tailed off.

very good early 00s alt/garage revival rock. Much more than like 3 songs everyone know. Recommended

Shit alright this was pretty damn good. Really wanted to play the contrarian as I've never gotten into the Killers, but after giving this a couple listens, I finally get the appeal. Fav track: Andy your a star

Nostalgia points on this, be warned. THAT SAID This is an impeccable rock album. It's so catchy. I put it on all the time. Opens huge, has some nice sentimental with just the right amount of kitsch tracks, and isn't afraid to get all anthemic. There's little quirks in the production that still excite me, and I think the slight snarky quirk on traditional rock lyrics formats is (for the most part) a joy. There's a dud or two (Change Your Mind I never remember is a track on here, Midnight Show) but it's still an exemplar of the genre for me. I said what I said. What are you gonna do. KILL me? The KiLlers. Okay? Four and a half. Fave track: All These Things That I've Done

This album makes white people go crazy. Mr. Brightside>Smile Like you mean it>Somebody Told me>All these things that I've done is actually an insane four track run.

Much better than I've ever given this band the credit for.

One of the groups that keeps impressing me with their inventiveness. And it started with their first album.

All of the singles from this album are great and I still hear them played, especially the monster Mr. Brightside. Some of the deeper cuts are pretty solid too but I personally find Andy, You're A Star to be pretty crappy. The highs on this album are just colossal. I just wish that several of these songs didn't remind me of a college girlfriend. I'm a happily married man now, but those memories do remain.

It may be a bit one-note, but it's a damn solid note.

"I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" might be one of the stupidest lines from a hit song in the last 20 years. That said, I remember seeing these guys touring for this album at some shitty basement venue at Bumbershoot festival. I really didn't think they were more than a flash in the pan at the time. Fun songs, good album. But 20 years on, they're still going. Good for them.

Some great tracks on this one

very decent album with obvious hit mr brightside although somebody told me is my personal favorite

Returning to this album for the first time in some time, I’m glad it’s still as good as I remember! The heavy amount of synthesizer is implemented well and adds variety between the songs. This album is a highlight of it’s time, very solid

Så chill

Starts off really good but about halfway through it just kinda drops in quality, not awful just the first half is WAY better.

driving rock with infectious bass lines. the vocals are somewhere between singing and crooning. solid effort. highlights: “mr. brightside”, “somebody told me”, “andy, you’re a star”.

I didn’t realize that I already knew half this album. And I also didn’t realize that I like The Killers.

Four incredible hits. The other songs are pretty good too. Love the Killers and their retro 80's vibe and sound.

When this album first came out, I wasn't interested in The Killers. To be fair I hadn't listened to more than a track or two, but listening 20 years later to the whole record, it was quite enjoyable. It's catchy and the songs were easy to listen to, which leads me to want to hear more. A solid, rambunctious romp of Hot Fuss should be enjoyed by all!

I love hearing men moan

Nostalgia probably ranks this album higher than it should. Or Mr. Brightside gives it a huge boost. Definitely 3.5/5 stars for me.

I like The Killers, and there are some KILLER songs on the album :)

Of all the early 2000s rock bands, this has got to be in the top few. Especially for this to be their debut album. Good stuff

All killer no filler! I actually enjoy the non singles a lot more on this record, probably because of how overplayed those singles were/are!

Sound track of my teenage years, this. Going back to it as a whole, it's really weirdly structured - did no one realise that the first five tracks were all going to be the singles when they put it together? Then tracks 6/7 are the next best two, before a load of a dross and then a nice closer. Still sounds great, they were really good live when I saw them last year as well. 4/5

One of the better debuts I've heard for sure. The Killers were part of that big boom in indie rock in the UK with Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes, but they did a great job at standing out here with this record. Lot of catchy songs with memorable melodies, I mean Mr. Brightside is an all time classic even with how often you hear it, and same for Somebody Told Me. But the rest of the album is soaked in a lot of shimmery guitars and synths, like On Top and Change Your Mind, while being lead with the soaring vocals and tons of charisma from frontman Brandon Flowers. It's a really strong album overall, and one of the better ones I've heard so far through this journey!

While the melodies are a bit generic, it got the best riffs I have ever heard for a while. A nice, grungy combination of Pulp and P!ATD.

There are some pretty weak album tracks here (Midnight Show and On Top not among them), but they're more than made up for by the absolute classic singles. It's easy to see why Hot Fuss put the Killers on the map, and it still holds up to this day. 3.5/5

great album, looking forward to the next recommendation

I've started to warm up to New Wave music recently and I think this was a good album to have at this time. Hot Fuss is certainly one of the more well-known modern rock albums (especially for 2000s rock) and wasn't half bad in my opinion. The New Wave aesthetic of this album worked pretty well and it made some enjoyable tracks. Of course, Mr. Brightside was a very enjoyable New Wave track that had good vocals and was pretty enjoyable all things considered. However, I think I enjoyed the more synth-oriented tracks like Somebody Told Me, Andy You're a Star, and Everything Will Be Alright (even if the former's lyrics don't sit right with me for whatever reason). Speaking of which, Everything Will Be Alright made for a very melancholic ending that didn't fit right as an ending but was a pretty enjoyable song. Overall, the instrumentals were pretty good and the vocals were decent (the few bits of synth work were nice), but I'm not keen on the lyrics as a whole except in a few parts. I think that's what's holding the album back in my opinion (I'd say the song with the best lyrics is Mr. Brightside if that means anything but it might be the best song so I don't truly know). In the end, it's a nice album that was pretty enjoyable. I'd say an 8/10 is fair for this album.

Killer album. Lot of hate directed toward it on here but I like it a lot. Very rooted in a specific time.

Really good album. Great debut to the Killer's discography. Can be a little boring aside from the hit songs, but does play like a greatest hits record. 8/10

Lekker

Being released in the year I was born, this album brought back so many early memories. For me it's (even though it's not that old) a truly timeless album

Loses steam by the end but still great overall

"Hot Fuss" is the debut studio album by the Las Vegas-based rock band The Killers. New wave, post-punk, alternative rock, revival and synth pop are the named genres. Yeah, I'll go with all those after a deeper listen. The album received generally positive reviews. It was a huge success hitting #7 in the US and #1 in the UK and four hit singles. The album starts off with "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine," the third part of their murder trilogy. Swirling helicopter sounds into a dramatic opening. The bass stands out. The boy is taken in for questioning on the murder of Jenny. Guitar keys open their big one "Mr. Brightside." The band kicks in. Catchy song. Catchy music. Hello rock arenas from here on out. Jealously and paranoia, as lead singer/ keyboardist Brandon Flowers tells the true story of walking into a Vegas bar as his girlfriend is with there with another guy. Well, most of us have been there. Keyboards open the fourth and final single "Smile Like You Mean It." Another song where the music kicks in shortly after the intro. Great keyboard chorus and guitar solo bridge. Coming to terms with growing up and getting older. Another catchy lyrical chorus in "Somebody Told Me." "Boyfriend who looks like a girlfriend" and rhyming confidential and potential. Flowers wrote "All the Things That I've Done" after talking with TV host Matt Pinfield and his work with PTSD/wounded soldiers from the IRAQ War. It's slower. Piano. Organ. The Sweet Inspirations on backing vocals giving it a soulful feel. I think I've mention The Sweet Inspirations along with The Wrecking Crew the most in this challenge. A deeper cut that's pretty good and one you really hear The Smiths' guitar influence is "Believe Me Natalie." Idiosyncratic drums and apparently about a women with aids. The most rocking song on the album is "Midnight Show," the second part of the murder trilogy where he kills and dumps Jenny. Dramatic keys and eerie guitar. I admit to getting this album when it first came out; I liked "Mr. Brightside." This sounded good today as well. I maybe came in looking for something to dislike but really didn't find anything major. You hear The 80's, The Smiths and Joy Division influences. They do a great cover of "Shadowplay," by the way. Solid melodies. Catchy choruses and singalong lyrics. Dramatic, not quite edgy. The first five songs are alt-music radio staples. A great, professional live band. One of the albums I don't need to recommend or not since I know everyone has a position on their music at this point.

Yeah, I mean, classic record. I don't love a lot of the singles on this album, but somehow in the context of the record, they felt fine/appropriate. I think overall I find The Killers' schtick a little thin and like weirdly consumerist? Like it feels glossy and manufactured in a way that's off-putting to me, but I do think this record has some bangers. Not sure when Mr. Brightside became a staple of every white person's wedding, but it definitely could be worse. Also, All These Things That I've Done should be the record's closer, full stop. Standouts: Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It, Somebody Told Me, All These Things That I've Done, Change Your Mind

There are three absolute bangers on this album, and some very weak tea outside of that. 4*s for the bangers, but i'd have more of a 3.5 vibe for the whole thing as a whole

Awesome album I should’ve listened to when it came out.

The first five tracks are flawless. I always have a soft spot for Mr Brightside, it’s the song of the iPod generation. But looking back from 2023 I have a new appreciation for All These Things That I’ve Done. The rest of the album don’t compare unfortunately and for that I need to rate the album down. In 2004 there are better dance post punk garage type bands like The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand. The Killers would make better albums later (Day and Age I think of their best) and perfect their sound into a stadium rock style. But I also like the rougher guitar tone in this album. Amusingly, Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll sounds like they’re attempting a Queen sound haha.

This is a really good album, beyond the obvious hits on here there are some other great songs

Solid album with some truly great and energetic riffs and melodies. It loses a star for me for the overplayed singles and lack of consistent style, even though the variation from 80’s synth-pop to 2000’s indie pop rock wasn’t weak on either side.

Good album, the singles are fire aswell as some of the fillers. Better than expected overall

One of the better early 2000’s indie side A’s. Good variation and they keep it interesting. Trying to take out my bias of loving singing mr bright side drunk as fuck

Dragged on a bit towards the end, but fun alt rock overall

good album

Good album - the hits are definitely the best tracks.

Y'know, when I first saw this album pop up for today, my initial reaction was "ugh... The Killers... Fuckin' hate'em..." But about three or four songs into the album, I was actually digging the hell out of it. I didn't get it, I heard these guys way back in high school and thought they were trite, weak, indie pop rock. What happened? Well, looking back, I think I might've seen the band name "The Killers" and thought "Oh sweet! That sounds like the name of a sick-ass metal band!" and was deeply disappointed to find that they sounded more like Muse on Xanax. But going in without that expectation this time around, I enjoyed this album quite a bit. I wouldn't really say it does a whole lot to elevate itself above all the other early 00's indie rock, but I dug it.

Aside from the two obvious hits on this, I'd never listed to the album - and I'm not sure I could have necessarily identified either of those as being by the Killers. They're the sort of band that if I'd been at a festival with them headlining I'd probably be at a side stage watching something obscure and North African instead. But I'm old and this isn't and it passed me by. But it's not bad at all - although the first side seems better, more productive, than the second maybe. I found myself tapping along to it and it's the sort of music I can imagine being on before a sporting event or in the interval between a support band and the main act. It's not going to alienate anyone and is familiar enough for everyone to get along with. It's OK then. A decent effort. 3.5ish, so it's a 4 because it's better than a bunch of 3s I've rated. The drums could use being a bit better produced perhaps, but then this was probably made, in part, for mp3.

great album all around - All these things that I've done is an absolute banger

Indie bueno

Killers were a band that arrived while I was in university with no time/money to explore new bands. Listening to this record I definitely missed out.

Really good pop music. The tracks are still played regularly.

3.5/5 Speak of the devil! I'm glad I got to listen to this album right after we spoke about it recently. I knew 3 songs this time! I'm moving up in the world. The Killers have a really timeless sound, like they could be from last year or the 80s. Who knows? I really like their rhythms and melodies. It seemed like someone stole his girlfriend right out from under his nose though, cause like half the songs were about that.

Another album I own and therefore already have an opinion on. The album starts out great with a bombastic opener and contains multiple mega hits but doesn't quite keep the quality up enough to warrant an outright 5 stars. One I'll listen to again no doubt, had already been debating doing just that just the other day in fact...

Was interduces to this album from my dad, I do really enjoy this album. Mr. Brightside is so good, such a great stadium anthem song. All These Things That I've Done is definitely the second-best song on the album.

Some bangers, but the Album energy is like straight downhill (4/5) for iconic songs

I will now recount a real conversation between myself and my father. For context, we were at a tailgate, he was 5 or 6 beers deep, and was actively scrolling through his iPod Shuffle: Dad: "Where's my good playlist? I thought it was Bill's Volume 9 but I can't find it. Maybe it's Bill's Volume 12" Me: "You should probably rename your playlists. How do you know it's the good playlist anyways?" Dad: "It has Mr. Brightside on it." In case you were wondering, the date of this conversation was September 2022.

I had forgotten about Jenny, a subtle great song. Brightside & Somebody had so much radio play in 2004-05-06, I'm still kinda sick of it. Smile is another good track that was solid. On Top was another heckova track. Really, this album had a Baker's half-dozen original hit songs during the fading sunset of rock n roll originality & creativity. 4.5/5

Funkar absolut.

No doubt this is a great album, and I am BEYOND happy it is on here. But something within the wiki excerpt above got me thinking. Nothing in there indicates this is "the greatest album of all time". All signs point to this being on the list due to some grammy wins. It didn't even debut at #1 on Billboard. It just makes me wonder about how many awesome albums we are missing on this list that are much more acclaimed. Hip Hop albums that came out at #1 or even Pop and R&B albums. That's where I am starting to see the bias in this list. Of course, we have been calling out the bias for about two years now but I think this adds even more evidence to that argument. Other than that, this album is a classic. Mr Brightside is one of my favorite songs that always gets me to dance. Somebody Told Me is great too, and I always like getting to listen to the full album since I mostly just enjoyed those singles. Also very chill album cover.

Oh boy, here's a big one. I can't remember if we had Sam's Town on here yet? I would imagine that might be on this list too. This album has some serious classics, including the white boy national anthem "Mr. Brightside." Also, "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll" is a fantastic song that I had never heard until pretty recently, Dea has it in her playlist and it's a banger. There are some songs on here where the vocal mix or perhaps just the amount of power Brandon Flowers is using to sing is pretty low, and then the album wraps up with that absolute belter, which makes me wish that vocal energy was present throughout. Still, a great album, and I'm very glad it made it to the list. Favorite tracks: Mr. Brightside, Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll, Somebody Told Me, Smile Like You Mean It, Andy You're a Star. Album art: I always liked this one, the soft hazy blue. Sometimes at quick glance I think I'm looking at candles, but I think it's highrise buildings, maybe in China or Japan based on the characters in neon. Die Rise easter egg? 4/5

A nostalgic trip. The pop anthems make me want to sing along to these songs that I don't understand, but still know pretty well. It's a bit meaningless in that way, but still enjoyable.

Mr Brightside and Everything Will Be Alright are total bangers but I kinda think the rest of the album is mid I’m mostly just petty because my mom is the BIGGEST Killers fan like I’m convinced the reason we lived in Henderson, Nevada was because that’s where Brandon Flowers is from I just, idk, her taste in music in garbage this album wasn’t bad but I just want to hate it out of spite 7/10

Got this. Takes me straight back to 2004.

This is a fun rock/pop album. It starts strong with "Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine", which is flollowed by the mega hit "Mr. Brightside" (which I never could warm up to). Another very good track would be "Andy, You're a Star", but not all of the tracks are equally strong, and the album loses a bit of steam in it's second half. No matter - this is still a record that deserves to be listened to again. 3.5/5

Iconic album of my College years. Some amazing tracks on this but not quite a 5 star album for me.

It's just a good album, great songs, great sound.

My eldest daughter’s first real record, I bought it for her seventh birthday. It remains in her top five all time

Couple of deep cuts that I would have never found. Glad this project made me listen to the whole album having only heard the singles. However the back half was fairly slow. The 6 minute song took a long time to build.

synths are wack but songs are hits

Fun album from when I was a kid. Not every song is a 10/10, but it gels great and there's a lot of character in it.

Classic mid-00s sounds. Could be at home in a stadium or a medium-sized club. Would’ve loved to see these guys live in 2004. Sing along choruses.

Mr. Brightside is one of the best songs ever. Somebody Told Me goes pretty hard too. The rest of the album is just ok

A familiar classic

Catchy as hell and gave us Mr Brightside so it fully deserves to be on the list. It’s like Nee Order for the modern age. I think the b side loses its way a tiny bit but an excellent listen. High 4.

Rock alternativo y new wave. 2 megahits.

I liked Hot Fuss a lot when I was younger, or at least a part of it, and still very much enjoy it today. In a way that Like A Prayer did not appeal to me, this is pop music that kisses my ears. So what’s the difference? I realize that’s a stupid question. Just working through my own thoughts. I would be curious if my larger familiarity with pop music in 2004, due to being alive, compared to Like A Prayer in 1989, when I was not alive, has a part to play. ‘Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine’ was goose bumps as Mr. Flowers sang the song’s title. Maybe it’s just coincidence that this was the opener, but this was the song I remember being my favorite. It all feels so honest as a story. Another member texted me that it feels like a very convincing show because it’s put on by an actual band and “not like theater kids”. I am in agreement. ‘Mr. Brightside’ is more than a frat basement banger. More than the song a live band plays in a bar. I remember ‘Mr. Brightside’ was exciting. Exposure to lyrics that are sexual in nature, making the music seem almost forbidden at 12 years old. A chorus meant for singing. No connection to the lyrical content other than the fact that it just sounded good. And it doesn’t stop. ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ is the perfect backing to a coming of age story. ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ and ‘Change Your Mind’ both touch on love remembered in different ways. All these songs simply sounded great before, and again feel different in meaning having grown up a little. Having listened with more frequency years ago, I realize I would really only listen up to ‘Change Your Mind’, often skipping ‘Andy, You’re A Star’ and ‘On Top’. This time around, the entirety of Hot Fuss provided another change in experience where certain songs were genuinely new to my ears. I originally didn’t really understand why people liked ‘Andy’ before because I stupidly didn’t listen to the whole thing. Now it hits. Plus, I was missing out on a very nice exit with ‘Everything Will Be Alright’. Another song that feels like an authentic performance giving the song an assurance and honesty I can believe in. I still don’t love ‘Somebody Told Me’, but I’ll still boogie to it.

Some songs that I really did not like, but some blew me away. Mr. Bright side is a pop classic of course, but it works so well with their style. I really liked on top.

Straight forward pop rock with a few classics like Mr. Brightside, somebody told me and all these things that I've done.

Pretty great

This reminds me of a very specific time of getting absolutely battered on white lightning with likeminded vagabonds and belting Jenny was a friend of mine at the top of our lungs. So this review is very bias, but it did bring a smile to my face. The actual album is fine it drops of hugely in the second half but (despite it being overplayed) I do quite like Mr Brightside and somebody told me.

I don't typically enjoy indie rock, but I quite like "Mr. Brightside" and "Somebody Told Me," so I wasn't sure how this one was going shake out. I was pleased to find that I liked this album quite a bit, even, ironically, the track "Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll." Got to this a little late in the day for a second listen, but I'll definitely revisit this soon.

I was surprised to see this one on the list. The Killers have never really struck me as critical darlings, and I don't even necessarily think Hot Fuss is their best work. But I guess if you're going to give it up to a '00s pop-rock album, there are much worse options. "Mr. Brightside" has joined the likes of "Sweet Caroline" and "Don't Stop Believin'" as an overplayed anthem, but other tracks, like "All These Things That I've Done" and "Jenny Was a Friend of Mine" may be underrated, if anything. This album is a lot of fun, really, and as someone who was nine when it dropped, I can't NOT give it up.

I was never huge on that early 00s garage rock thing, but I've heard this one a few times and it's definitely a high point of the movement. A nice listen for once. 4/5.

I really enjoy this album and have a lot of good memories associated with it! I want to be an old guy in a bar belting these songs out with a crowd!

The songs that are great, are so great. The rest feels like “songs done in the style of.”

At the time I think I thought I was too cool for The Killers but in retrospect this is an absolutely FIRE album. Just bangers from start to end and I have a ton of nostalgia for it.

Its clear that the Killers were heavily influenced by the Strokes and British alternative in general. I can also hear a bit of new wave and some britpop thrown in, but if I didn't know better, I would say that this band from Las Vegas was an early 2000s British alternative rock band. Overall, the album is catchy, features memorable songs, and has great melodies. However, I'm not hearing much that is groundbreaking. Having said that, it's impossible to escape the influence of this album and its songs, Mr. Brightside in particular, are modern classics.

Anthem for a UK generation (not mine unfortunately) appears on this excellent album.

Solid stuff

The title is appropriate. This is as frenetic as anything since the Sex Pistols, but with much more talent. The vocals are a bit monotone for my taste, but work well with the style of music.
