Reviews (page 7 of 7)
some cool rhythms and some guitar, some nice things
Oh come on, simply don't believe those giving this 4 or 5 stars. not completely unlistenable but was actively trying to block the vocals out 1.5
Yeah this is another “whatever” international album. I have no I’ll feelings toward this album except that I was bored by it and was glad it was only 34 minutes. In other news: I finally connected the dots that war pigs on the pigs no more album was a cover and I realized that it’s basically the same as the original but not as meaty so that album takes a hit cuz I dislike covers that are basically a copy of the original. It’s one of those where you discover you only like the sound of it because it’s near identical to the original that you also like.
Nice bit couldn't get too excited.
"20 years of all-time classics"... distilled down to 4 tracks, eh? It's all fine, decent enough African/World music, but nothing particularly grabbed out at me.
Not for me. Nice background but not much.
Not available
the rhythms are a bit choppy if you are not in a 4/4 mood
Poor production:Tinny, almost no low end, so you only hear the slap on the percussion, the top of the vocal range, the high horn, guitar, keys notes; it sounds like I’m listening to this on cheap headphones someone took out of their ear to talk to me. It distracts from the actual music, which seems like I’d like more, but it’s hard to say bc this is my first listen
Um, I'm not sure what this is all about.
Hmmmmmmmm. Couldn’t dig this at all. I understand vaguely why some people might like to hear these weird musings but I’ll avoid for just now. Not my gig at all.
It was good but very long and repetitive songs.
LOL, I complain that this list is too US/UK-centric but then I get a little world music and I'm like "meh..."
Was not a huge fan. There was not anything that grabbed me
I really don’t have much to say about this. It was alright, but nothing really caught my attention about it.
I've thoroughly enjoyed some great world music albums during this little exercise. That's been one of the joys from listening to over half of the albums appearing on the list. Unfortunately, this isn't one of the better world music albums listed. Maybe I just expected more after getting so many gems.
I respect it
Thie suffers from one of the pervasive problems of 'world music' - the melodies are so subserviant to the rhythm that they may as well not exist. And if you do fight through the almost impenatrable layers of percussion to get to the tunes they are not worth the effort.
p527. 1984. 2 stars Well done of its kind but left me cold. Bonus star for the guitar work of Mamadou "Jimi" Mbaye.
The Queen's dead, mate
Decent album, but I feel it was below average for the afro-pop I have listened to on this list so far. 2.5/5
Nah - not for me. The voice didn't work for me on this album.
Esperava mais.
African music - not for me. 2 stars
Ikkje spesielt interessant
This was fine. 2 stars.
Musical syncretism. I'm sure a lot of people will rightfully find something compelling herein.
“Moving” muzika. Slažen se
Didn't enjoy it as much as some of his others.
boring
Interesting but very niche
Not great
Interesting rhythms. Not into the vocals.
Definitely mixed feelings on this one. This is definitely different from my usual listening. Overall, it's not too bad. The instruments are quite good at times but sometimes I found myself getting bored with the length of these tracks. I didn't really care for the vocals either, not because I didn't understand the language but just the overall style. I hate to shit on this album too much because it seems like something I'm just not accustomed to. I can't lie and say that I really enjoyed it though.
Not for me
ethnic music but doesn't really sound too interesting
5/10
Don't like it
I didn't like it very much, but it was cool to hear something totally different, and it made perfectly fine background music while I was playing a board game tonight.
Not on my music streamer. First time that's happened. Boo.
Not really my jam
First listen. Interesting African music. I did enjoy it quite a bit after listening to it all day. Very strong 2/5.
cool music but whiny vocals!
Meh
Not bad, but not interesting.
Eh. Probably innovative or soemthing. Not for me.
first song is good and warm but nothing impressive. Female vocals are fine. Didn't care for the chill song Pitche Mi. I understand this is a good live performance feel but I'm just not engaged.
not really into this. second and third song were nice.
Youssou N'Dour's voice is familiar to me through his work with Peter Gabriel on various albums and live performances. The music is mostly okay. I wasn't sure how to rate this album, so I listened again. At almost the same spot in the third track out of four, I checked to see how long until the album was done. There are a few points in the last two tracks where I'm done listening. I guess that makes this a 2.
idk i can’t give a good rating bc it’s just not my fav genre
Technically an EP, ain't it
I wouldnt mind this if I was walking past the West Holts Stage at Glasto.
Nothing dislikeable but forgettable background noise for me
First track is great. The rest is ok. Tough for Western ears to get. One star for the musicianship + one star for my white guilt.
2/5 Tribal sounds, but not my cup of tea
Nah
4
Not my cup of tea
Not really enjoying this music
Very niche. Listened only to a couple of tracks, which I found inaccessible. I’m sure it has its audience. I’m just not part of it.
sorry prince but no
No, sorry. It's not to my taste. 1 star...
In my humble opinion it was added just because of cultural diversity, I just really don't like the sound of this album
Not my vibe wouldn't listen to it again 1.7/10
I listened to this whole album and honestly don't have much to say about it at all. I'm thankful to hear new music from artists and cultures I've never heard music from, but this album left no positive or negative impression on me. It's a lukewarm 3/10. I will likely forget this by lunch today.
No va
world music yay :(
no es mi estilo
Wut.
👎🏻⭐️
Album 1010 of 1089 Immigrés - Youssou N'Dour (1984) Rating : 1.5 / 5 I appreciate being exposed to music I wouldn’t normally come across in my everyday listening, and this album certainly fits that bill. There’s no denying the talent here - strong vocals, rich rhythms, and a deep cultural identity running through the music. That said, the album lost a lot of its pull for me fairly early on. By the second track, I felt like I had a good sense of what it was offering, and it never really shifted enough to pull me back in. While I can respect the craftsmanship and understand why this record holds significance for many listeners, it just didn’t connect with me on a personal level. Not something I’ll be reaching for again, but I’m still glad I gave it the time. That’s part of what this whole project is about - listening, learning, and moving on to the next one.
This is not for me. Did not enjoy. At least it was only 30 minutes long.
Wtf is this…
Meh
Not for me. 1/5
Thank goodness this was short. It definitely wasn't sweet to my ears. 1 star. I was constantly imagining cats being tortured as I listened to this album.
Not my kind of music.
Felt like I am on an all-inclusive holiday
Weltmusik ist so gar nicht meins
Not for me.
Not for me
Nothing about this listen was inherently bad, however nothing spoke to me. None of the individual songs stuck out, didn’t grab any for my playlist.
Couldn’t even get through a song without skipping. World music sucks balls. He has an amazing voice though.
Didnt really do it for me, bit of a racket
Not for me
Judging by the algorithm created by what I most like, why is this playing?
Well ... I liked Louis Prima and said I liked the change of pace ... but this ... is a little much. First couple okay, then it becomes really repetitive, and not fun. Some other reviewer said it - the instrumentals are good, but his voice wears on you, and not in a good way.
I can’t ever listen to this again.
Eh, not my jam
Not a fan.
It’s a cool historic listen but doesnt offer much in 2024 , would be cool live , maybe by campfire ?
I tried. Really, I tried.
Brutes
Chato
Music nice, can do without vocals.
Not for me
Not my preference
Not for me
It's a little too jazzy for me.
was not in the mood for this today
Hmm
Cmon now. Really.
I can understand where this comes from musically, but I can't enjoy it. I would rather listen to this some of the others I have had so far, so I will rate it a 2. 1.5 if possible.
Talvez seja bom para alguém... Para mim foi terrível
Only 4 tracks and I have 0 clue what to expect from this. Not my kind of thing at all even tho it’s so short, I can appreciate it’s good cultural music but nah not for me at all sorry.
African easy listening!
I'm sure this would be more interesting with some context but as far as enjoyable music, I don't think id ever care to hear this again
No thanks
Nope
😠
Not for me. Really not well placed after listening back to back catching up. Just went on forever
How can I say this politely? Umm, no thanks.
The album is short. I have no need to revisit it again. This a step up from the 40 minutes of bongos that I listened to earlier in the week. It is certainly better than a 1 but I do not think it is really a 2. When compared to the other albums that received a 2, it doesn't really fit that category. I will round down.
Some interesting sounds but overall not much joy
I liked the one with the congas better. First Listen?: Y Fav. Track(s): - Rating: 1/5
Yeah just not my thing. Sounds cool!
Not really my thing at all
Did not like it
Horror!
Absolute meandering nonsense.
Too Reggae...
very cool, 7 seconds man
