Reviews (page 5 of 7)
Such a unique voice, and a different singing style than westerners would be used to. I loved the guitar noodling and funky breaks. Solid album that I can’t understand, but can in some ways!
Nid so mis Ding
There's snow everywhere, it's 1c and this is my album of the day. From one of the hottest places on earth. Cheered me up to be honest. Car felt warmer quicker.
Has the ingredients, but it's too busy for me
Favourite african lp so far
refreshing to hear non-english non-european music once in a while
Interesting
++: immigrés/Bitim Rew +: Taaw, Badou +-: Pitche Mi 7,2/10
I rather liked this. Was nice background music. 3.5
pleasant!
A good laugh
Way out of my wheelhouse but quite enjoyable.
This is a good album. I don’t know if I would seek it out, but it’s good.
Fun
Sure! I like world music as much as the next guy
Good! Short
Pleasant enough, a bit dull
Bought into this by the end. Wouldn't listen again, but it was diverting. It lead me on a path of world/Gambian which was a rather different route. Some lovely rhythms and build-ups.
Yeah why not, enjoyed it. Didn't outstay it's welcome.
Decent. Short and sweet
I kind of like Immigres/Bitim Rew, Badou; I almost like Pitche Mi, Taaw
Lovely vocal and rhymes if ultimately not the classic to stick around.
I know next to nothing about African music, but this was a really good listen. Great beats, simple vocals and melodies and just good vibes all round. A bit short at 34m but an enjoyable 34 mins none the less.
goeie muziek, minder fan van de stem...
I do enjoy a lot of African music.
Solid Mbalax (genre) album. Which is the urban dance music of Senegal and the Gambia. The more you know. Fun jazz and groovy licks. Enjoyed it, might not go back often though. Good work music.
3.4
6/10 Just a little too hard for me to get into
I'm not really into "world music" because a lot of what I have heard has rhythm / musical conventions that aren't very pleasing to me. I'm not a musician, so I can't say if those non-western conventions are present in this album or not, but this is a rare thumbs up for me in the "world music" genre
Kind of too long but pretty enjoyable for what it is.
Survivor jazz
This was some cool African jamming. I liked the second song a lot. Overall, I got a little bored with it, but it was super chill good vibes.
Cool stuff.
3.5
I’m on a run of music that doesn’t fit into my typical playlist. I hope that these get spaced out a little more.
ok
Really cool African music. I liked it but it didn't fall into a catagorey of must listen. Much prefer afro cuban.
Honestly this is a lowkey bop. 69/100
Pleasant, chill, interesting. I generally enjoyed it, thought it kind of faded into the background and didn’t fully hold my attention. Favorite track: Pitche Mi
Woahhhh really liked this one. So chill to have on in the car or going somewhere. I’m a sucker for lyrics but this album really didn’t need them. If anything, lyrics would’ve taken away from the laid back, groovy feel. This album made me happy.
Afrikanisch
enjoyable musics
Not bad
Favorite Track: Taaw
6.5
Very fun but not likely to revisit in full. The first track will go into rotation.
It's cool listening to music that is so unfamiliar. I enjoyed the whole album, but I do think some of the songs were too drawn out. But I'm generally not a fan of jam band music either.
It's difficult for me to know the subject matter of the songs without doing research but from the standpoint of just the music and delivery itself, it's a compelling album.
This was a fun album! Only four tracks but they were long. Parts of the drums reminded me of similar percussions on the Black Panther scores.
I liked it a lot. Nice drumming. Good vibe.
fun. not my jam, but fun to hear.
It’s pretty good - It’s not something that I would put on again, as I am not into this genre, but it does make me feel good though.
Fun rhythms. Smooth voice. Songs drag on a little bit longer than necessary. Would give it a 3.5 if I could.
Great bass and drums, great way to brighten the morning commute to work
I always appreciate hearing non-American/British music here. This album didn't make a big impression on me but it was pleasant.
3.5
Immigrés - 3? Pitche Mi - 3 Taaw - 3 Badou - 3 It's fine. Not for me.

Different but not bad!
Nice
An interesting listen
3/5 - really nice to have on in the background while I worked!
Highlights: Pitche Mi Great vocals, great intro to world music, love all the layers of percussion on this. Fun party music that sounds like a hot summer's day on a sandy beach. Best enjoyed cocktail in hand.
Pleasant world music
This is a good listen - very good musicians creating a musical experience. Maybe better on as background music?
It's okay - not something I would pick on my own but I didn't hate it.
Some nice moments, I'd probably like to revisit the 2nd track... not much else
Fun, made me want to be on a beach.
Th project has served up a couple of world albums from African artists, and I’ve generally been impressed. This one? Not so much. It’s far from bad, but didn’t really spark my interest. 3/5
Música africana animada. Un 3.
Rollo, pero bueno.
Tiene una voz estupenda, muy distintiva.
Good
Had this on while cutting the grass. Was some really nice music for that venture -- bright and upbeat. I will say that a lot of it sort of ran together for me though. High 3 / 5.
Interesting album to have in the background while working. Not bad though. 3 stars
25 albums later and I have a new favorite Senegalese album of all time! My one (very surface level) note is that this feels a lot more Latin inspired or Latin adjacent than I expected. I was expecting heavier African and French sounds. Pretty solid, all things considered. I enjoyed this enough, but it's generally repetitive and doesn't feel super complex. Nice background music, but probably won't think of this one again unless we get more music out of Senegal.
Really reggae tone to this one. Some of these instrument parts are pretty elite. Kind of lost some steam because it got quite repetitive. But enjoyable nonetheless. Would hit a can of Jenkem and listen to this album again.
A lot of these songs should be over montages of whatever tropical island is playing in a movie. Usually I can appreciate these kinda albums but it does get awfully repetitive in a not great way for me. Love the sax though. Low 3.
A little too poppy/upbeat for my tastes, but an enjoyable listen anyway.
s'alright, don't think I'll be listening again
Not music usually in my "wheelhouse", but it's upbeat rhythms and impressive musicianship was enjoyable and a good listen. Had it on as background music and it wasn't something I struggled with or tempted to switch tracks, so it was a win. If it's fun, funky and festive, why not?
2.5
Not bad
Interesting. Not sure what else to say.
Not bad if you like this era of West African music.
Utterly pleasant, but a bit like cotton candy - a momentary sweet treat without any real bulk or substance. The thirty five minutes spent with this, its loping rhythms and skittering percussion, were fine. The music has a bright quality to it, a kind of audio warm smile. Ten minutes later and I can barely recall a riff or melody. I probably won't listen again, but by the same token I wouldn't object if this was on my car stereo. I'd drive to the beach or a bowling alley with this on, sure!
Great vibes for warmer weather (3.5/5)
Don't understand it. But like the vibes
Enjoyable
Not bad, could be setbreak music
Sure
Pleasant and nice sound
Sounded good.
The ultimate 3/5
This was pretty enjoyable overall. I like world music and African music. Some sections felt a little too repetitive but overall an easy listen with some found sounds. I enjoyed the drums a lot and the vocals. I probably wouldn't revisit this album but I liked hearing it.
Good time! Admittedly, I'm not super familiar with African music. And I also don't speak French, but I had a great time with this one. I'm glad I listened to it!
Not that terrible indeed
Very Senegalese. Nice rhythms.
Very enjoyable indeed
I can see the appeal and it is well-crafted. It just isn't my genre.
I actually liked this more than I thought I would.
Unique sound. Nice mixture of drum beats, horns, and singing. A bit like easy-listening jazz.
Bon 3+
Liked this! Rich and mood boosting
Interesting and cool, put me in a good mood
An alright listen, although didn’t really catch me
Interesting but forgettable.
Un buon album di World Music. E poi con Youssou N'Dour pensi sempre a "Seven Seconds".
Interesting and enjoyable
I guess it's ok. But I could have lived without knowing this album ever existed.
Fun album. Not my cup of tea genre wise, but it did give me some pep in my step.
I liked this album more than I thought I would. Good beats, good sound!
Fun beats, great atmosphere music.
Good rhythm
Not a bad album from someone I've never heard of. 3/5
Pretty good, interesting to hear once but wouldn't listen again.
Funky upbeat African vibes. Liked it.
Not sure what to make of it. Not bad but seemed to blend together for me, very much all sounding the same.
Greatest musician in Senegal’s history. Super soulful. Looks like this album put him on the map. Not something I crave to listen to. Truly African.
No expectations for this, but very enjoyable.
Where did this musical variety come from? I like Afro-Cuban jazz, so this provides some sense of the Afro side. I like all the percussion - Djembe, right? It was interesting.
Cool rhythms, overall enjoyable
Thank goodness for some variety on this list. It's been a lot of English and American stuff. N'Dour has a great voice, flexible and strong. I like the instrumentation a lot; I especially love the bass, particularly its tone on the opening track. Not sure about the synthesizers. They muddy the sound a bit. Maybe I'll revisit this album, maybe not, but I am interested in more of Youssou N'Dour's work now. So thanks for taking a break to present me with some good African music, list. I hope it wasn't too hard to include among all the Britpop and New Wave and post punk. Highlights: Pitche Mi, Taaw
Very fun and interesting to hear. Enjoyable listen.
Kids enjoyed it
3 the songs were enjoyable but they were way too long without much if any changes
Very nice drums and vocal on this album. I can't really use anything else but I enjoyed it even if I don't often listen to world music.
Pleasant. Uplifting. Short.
Senegalese singer and percussionist Youssou N'Dour. World Music from 1984 3/5
I think I have to be in the right mood for this, and I wasn’t. But I can appreciate the album as good music.
I only knew that song from the 90s he did with Neneh Cherry. This was funkier and more droney than I expected. Fun, but slight.
Fue divertido.
Cool stuff on this record. All I really have to say on it.
Great voice, so-so songs. Not keen on all the synths.
This was good, easy to listen to.
It's lovely to have a change of pace and move away from the western centric anglophone stuff that dominates this list. I only know him from a duet with Neneh cherry in the 90's and it's the interesting to dive deeper. The north African rhythms and instrumentation are lovely, obviously I've no idea what he was singing about but it ticked by quite nicely.
I like it. But I need to be in the mood for it.
Good to have listened
meh
Sounds good but not my jam. I’d listen to it while cooking
This album didn't really make much of an impression on me. In general, I've been a big fan of the African music that I've gotten on this list, but perhaps I just lack the context for this album in a way that I didn't with bands like Fela Kuti or Songhoy Blues. This album is fine, it sounds good, but it leaves me feeling a bit bored 3/5
Pitche Mi is an amazing tune with jazz/african music blend, really enjoyed. The other tracks slightly less impressive
Short but decent album. Nothing stood out much, but it made for an enjoyable listen.
Pretty good. Reminded me of Mdou Moctar. I maybe wouldn't revisit this though. Songs are too long. 3/5
fun
Pleasant
A nice departure from the norm on this list. An alluring sound, instantly appealing from the first rhythms.
Sounds like he is THE singer in Senegal and put Senegalese music on the map. Not my thing but sounds good. I find this funny, from Wikipedia: "Though the album has been criticized for its use of synthesizers, it has been praised as a showcase for N'Dour's voice"... like why can't there be a synthesizer on the album? I didn't know African music wasn't allowed to use non-traditional instruments. Why gatekeep? Cause of the pad on Pitche Mi? Guess no vibes allowed (granted this is just an All Music reviewer).
He's interesting. Good beats. Nice melodies.
Pretty good
didn’t listen to much of it but not cuz i’m racist, it’s okay
Ändå mysig
I liked this, very positive energy, though of course the lyrics were opaque to me.
Was nice.
I love the guitar, horns, and rhythms. But it’s an album I enjoyed but don’t see putting on again.
Some genuinely exciting music and grooves - I really liked the grooves of the tracks (especially "Pitche Mi"). The instrumentation is great, and Youssou N'Dour has an emotive yearning in his vocal tone.
i would probably be more into this if i listened to it more closely but who’s got the time?
It's fun island music.
Great rhythms and joyful melodies.
Really enjoyed the vibe of this album, it blends traditional African rhythms with modern synthesizers and electric guitars, creating a vibrant and energetic sound that showcases N’Dour’s powerful voice. It is clearly an album of artistic merit and cultural significance, hence more than deserves its place on the list. But this isn’t an album that I’m going to listen to frequently due to my own personal taste, so I give this album 3 out of 5.
Unique sound not at all unpleasant.
Interesting african/world music entry. I liked the drums, and horns. Not quite reggae but I could definitely hear this music having an influence on reggae. Not something I would typically listen too, but it's not bad
3.4 - Having seen N'Dour in concert and having experienced the piercing grip of that voice, and the energy of his backing band, I had high hopes for this. The first track starts strong with a grooving dance beat. But the second track puts a wet blanket on the vibe, and with only four tracks, the record doesn't really recover. Disappointing.
This is pretty good music that has a good rhythm and instrumentation. It is easy to put on in the background and chill to it. It's pretty upbeat and faster tempo too; which is nice. Don't understand a word being said, but it still is pretty good. Wish the tracks weren't so long though. The track length is one of the only things dragging this thing down from being a 4/5. If they were shorter songs that meandered less this would be a lot better. A strong 3/5
Pleasant enough for a Sunday afternoon
Nice chill, laid back sound. I didn't resonate too much with the album but I appreciated it while listening. I actually think the more instrumental-heavy parts were better than the vocal sections. I did like the scatting on "Taaw" however. Track 2, "Pitche Mi" was my favorite. 3/5. Sounded good. Not sure if it's an album that you need to hear before you die.
Background music, but at least I can pretend to be very intelligent while listening to it. Never heard of this guy, but he's apparently won every single award ever conceived and is considered one of the most famous African artists of all time, so good for him!
Boh
This album gave me all the fun, yet chill island vibes. Instantly boosted my mood and energy! Listen again: maybe, if I stumble across it. Purchase for my collection: probably not Favourite Song: Immegres (first song)
You know, the critics reviews weren't acclaimed on this one, so a bit surprising for it to make the list. Sure, this is the album where Youssou N'Dour became more widely known and then a bunch of artists wanted him to guest appear on their albums. But as an album it's just fine. I think we already had some really good examples of African music (maybe not Senegalese) by this time, but then again this was just before Paul Simon caught a lot of flak for misappropriating the African sound on Graceland. So maybe it was trailblazing? It doesn't make me want to go listening to his entire collection but I didn't mind listening to it.
Totally unfamiliar with this and Mbalax music in general. Nothing incredible by any means, but really excellent recordings and excellent music.
Sounds like background music a middle school English teacher puts on. Groovy though
Pretty enjoyable album with few tracks but a decent amount of variety and a nice diversion from what I normally listen to. N'Dour is considered one of the great world vocalists and I definitely can tell why. Downsides are that without understanding the lyrics I feel like I'm missing half of the song's impact.
Enjoyed it. Very different. A bit too jazzy for me
It's nice to hear some african music, though this was better as background for me I hope to find more world music that are hidden jems that I love.
B- Immigrés / Bitim Rew 3 Pitche Mi 3 Taaw 3 Badou 3 Pure 3, through and through. I wanted to give at least one of these a 4 to add to my 45's playlist, but it'll just have to stay an album gem. Great music, I really liked it.
Not bad… that’s it
Very interesting beats but not a fan of the guitar tone
Funky stuff! Strong 3
De va krill
Very different. I liked listening to it and found it quite cheerful
1/4, 25%
I like the viba of this album, but the first song kind of satisfies that style with the rest of it being unnecessary fluff. I enjoyed what I heard, though.
Happy music
This is why I love this challenge. This was pretty cool, even if it was on the short side. I never would have picked this up independently, and I’m glad I got to give it a try
Highly enjoyable for not understanding anything. Solid percussive grooves.
Pleasant but not exactly memorable
Alright background music
Solid jams, very vibey. Loved the horns. Lots of interesting percussion. And the singing is great.
Not my kind of music, but I admire how well-produced and boppy it is. "Pitche Mi" in particular is amazing.
I enjoyed this.
Very unfamiliar territory for me but I dig it. The drums and rhythm in particular are fantastic.
Same as all the other African records....this is excellent music that is very enjoyable, but with little to no frame of reference, I find it hard to compare
Good guitar playing
Something different
This was fine I guess. Nothing too mind-blowing but I didn't feel compelled to skip anything either.
Some beautiful creation and originality
World music is simply more joyful than that of any other genre or region. This was, once again, really fun.
pleasant enough but nothing outstanding
Fine. Viva Nigeria was great.
That was nice! Another album of African music. His voice grew on me. Liked that there was a touch of modern (80s modern) over the African style. Enjoyable
Rollo, pero bueno. 3
This was fine. Senegalese singer uses synthesizers and local sounds.
Good!
Enjoyable. I liked the beats
From RYM Mbalax is a popular genre of Wolof Music that was developed in Senegal in the 1970s. It was rooted in njuup, a Serer ritual tradition. In addition, it incorporated influences from Cuban, Congolese and American popular musics, and soon became the predominant style in Senegal and the neighbouring Gambia. In the following decades it has grown to be one of the most popular styles of West African Music, aided by the global popularity of Youssou N'Dour (leader of Étoile de Dakar and later Super Étoile de Dakar) and Thione Seck (ex-member of Orchestra Baobab and leader of Raam Daan), as well as a younger generation of successful artists such as Alioune Kassé and Alioune Mbaye Nder. The group Super Diamono, featuring Ismaël Lô, also played a significant role in the development and popularization of the genre. Mbalax is traditionally characterised by the rhythms played on sabar drums, although this traditional drum is occasionally replaced by a trap set or even a drum machine. In the 1990s, a keyboard-driven style of mbalax dubbed "marimbalax" was pioneered by the band Lemzo Diamono.
That was good but rather linear. The second half didn't grab me as much as the first half did.
The title song was pretty boring, but I enjoyed the rest
Good suprise.
I enjoyed this album as it contains some nice, groovy, well toned sounds, but again, I wonder why it is here, considering all the afrobeat masterpieces that exist in the world.
Nice album - pleasant Afro-beat. I only knew of Youssou N'Dour because of his collaboration with Neneh Cherry on 7 Seconds but his distinctive voice works well with the music
Very hard to judge but also enormously enjoyable
Just a really unique enjoyable listen. Something I would have never of stumbled upon otherwise. Will be adding “Pitche Mi” to the playlist. 3
Before listening to Immigres, just about all I'd heard of Youssou N'Dour's remarkable voice was his magnificent contribution to Peter Gabriel's 2002 track, "Signal to Noise". Described by Rolling Stone as "the most famous singer alive" in Africa, N'dour's also collaborated with Paul Simon (percussion on "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes"), Neneh Cherry, and many more besides. He's become a "gateway" into Africa's popular music for many a sheltered Westerner (me), and so it feels difficult to argue with his inclusion in this canon. "Immigres", N'Dour's sixth album released the year before "Graceland", showcases the mbalax style, which I'd never heard of before today. It's a term N'Dour coined to describe percussion-heavy dance music from Senegal, emerging in the 1970's. As such, this is an album to quicken the pulse, galvanise the body and lift the spirit. The four tracks here are all extended jams showcasing syncopated rhythms, constantly shifting and overlapping grooves, N'Dour's voice ringing out triumphantly on top. There's frequent improvisation at work, giving every member of the band a chance to shine, but usually returning to a strong central melody. It's far from the music I'm used to listening to, so I'm rating on a tentative first impression and won't attempt to analyse it in any more depth just yet, but it's very well performed and it's always great to have the chance to hear something new. "World" music albums on this list are few and far between, so I appreciated the chance to hear N'Dour without any Westerners involved.
Exactly the kind of thing I want to get from this project. Good but not one I'd revisit, and I'd probably enjoy it more as just instrumental pieces. A chill warm orange sunset. 28/03/23
- different than anything I normally listen to. I feel that I cannot judge it when it’s not in my field of knowledge
Good drums/rhythm
Quite a bit more smooth jazz in this than I expected, which was welcomed. It was nicely fused with the African drums and some synthesizers for the pretty cool I really sound. The longest song didn’t quite do much for me which made the album a bit of a disappointing listen. 6/10
3/5. The vocals the main driving force here but the instrumentation still goes hard. Fun and energetic vibes.
Me gusta, muy étnico 😝 (LNM)
World music de primer nivell.
I particularly liked the groove of Taaw, but the second track was too sombre for my Afrobeat party!
Enjoyable but didn’t hold my interest.
It's alright I guess
This is one of the things I love about doing a record a day. This was so different than what I'm used to and so much fun to listen to. I never would have know about it.
Known for collaborating with Paul Simon on his masterpiece Graceland, this record showcases Senegalese mbalax music, characterized by overlapping percussion rhythms and a distinctive chamber aesthetic. It's pretty dated, even for its time. They have the most basic synths that don't incorporate well, but they do add atmosphere in "Pitche Mi". I prefer these long groovy pieces over a series of shorter tracks, but they still suffer from repetition, especially the 3rd track. I found his vocals to be excessive and grating, but he has his moments in the first track, and he does a stellar dreamy performance in the second. The polyrhythmic grooves kept me engaged for the whole album. I wanted to be more critical of this album, but it's unique, has its moments, and honestly I did enjoy most of it.
I’ve been a fan of world music (focusing on percussion) since hearing Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum. This record is great. Really groovy. The percussion rocks. Solid.
Toka biisi on huikea ja muutenkin ihan jees. Sanotaan 3,5/5.
Not my usual style, and I probably wont reach for this album if i'm being honest but I really enjoyed listening to it!
Really interesting, short and sweet, I enjoyed the mix of instruments
It’s some good world music
One of the joys of this album list is that it gets me to listen to things of which I was completely unaware, and have no preconceptions. This was such an album. I enjoyed it but am not sure I'd listen again - the sections I really enjoyed started to become repetitive quite quickly, and I am not sure if my inability to understand the lyrics setracts from my enjoyment. Overall, I'm glad to have found "something new"
Eh, this was ok? Fun enough but nothing I'd listen to again, even as a token foreign album. 3/5.
Background music for an evening rooftop party. Good food, good drink, good friends, good night.
Bueno!
busy but skillful
Nice feel good music
Nice, chill
3.5
Upbeat music, good for early morning. I probably wouldn’t seek it out, it’s just a shame I only really hear different music like this on here. 3*
Good.
i listened to most of this, its ample background music.
A gargoyle crawling under my foreskin turns and gives me a look that tells me I haven't cleaned myself enough lately. I panic and wonder what to do. My shame should never be known. I wank and shower him in a litre of semen. He drowns and I cry.
just love this kind of music
There are far too few non-western artists on this list, so I was already feeling good about this album, just to see it here. But this is absolutely not just a token of diversity meant to appease. Rather, this is a testament to the universal language of music, which I hope will open the eyes and ears of listeners touring this list. I personally enjoyed the vibrant vocals and horns, the hypnotic drum chorus, and the iterative verse-over-verse permutations of the opening track 'Immigres/Bitim Rew' and the closing track 'Badou'. The central two tracks are much more mellow, but similarly rich in their musical texture. This is a wonderful introduction to the music of Senegal and I look forward to exploring the artists and albums of that country and region further; with or without this list's recommendations.
Short, but sweet.
So exotic and cool. It's a pleasure to mix up my music listening and get into some afro beats.
World spanning vocals and grooves equally pacific, though not as astonishing as he'd create later on.
Was really nice to have some Afrobeats playing as I tried to bake a cake yesterday afternoon. Some lovely stuff on here. Always happy to listen to Youssou.
Pretty fun!
Really enjoyable, chill music. Demerits for using synths instead of real horns. Best track: Pitche Mi
Buoyant exuberant jammy jams in another tongue.
I liked Pitche Mi a LOT The rest I didn't mind
Pretty fun to have in the background in the summer but hard to parse without knowing the lyrics
A fun, vibrant LP - the longer track lengths and relative lack of vocals means this one falls into the background music category a bit, but not in a negative way.
Enjoyable. It's not a style I'm familiar with, but this was a good listen.
Giving this a fairly safe 3 stars and thought it would be great as bkg music in a film but as for me listening to it over and over, unlikely.
"World music" is a dreadful term for various reasons, and it's also something that, frankly, I don't really have much experience with. As such I don't really know what I think about this cos I'm not really sure how to respond to it; I'm giving it three stars cos that seems fair, I did find it pleasing to listen to.
Jolly stuff
A formidable ensemble, and that nice Middle Eastern tone of his tenor. (6/10) FT: Immigrés
Funky.
Again, it's amazing how difficult it is to judge music when I know so little about the history, culture, and language from which it was derived. However, this was pretty jammy. It reminded me a lot of when I used to play in the high school jazz band - it has that kind of free-formy vibe. Also, I'm real impressed with the producing and engineering. There is a lot going on, but all the "stuff" came through crisp. Really dug it.
Nice to see some non-English music.
Timeless album that certainly doesn't sound like its from 1984, and holds up really well today. I like how compact this album is, only 4 songs, no fat. I also like the joyous vibe from this album, really chill guitar especially on Pitche Mi and the brass isn't in your face like some of his contemporaries, eg Hugh Masakela and Fela Kuti.
Look I can appreciate it—it was interesting—but I’d say not my cup of tea.
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Immigrés / Bitim Rew Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: I love the world music inclusions on this list, even if they don't usually end up being my favorite albums. Didn't adore this, but still a cool listening experience.
Enjoyed it but prefer some of his others.
There are some very dated synth patches on this record. But it's a good listen.
Raro, divertido y bien hecho.
Really nice music, quite enjoyable to listen to, and often puts a smile of my face from the energy coming through.
I enjoyed this more than expected. 3 stars.
Enjoyed it!
Really struggled with this one. Loved the beats and the melodies but because I didn’t understand the lyrics I felt I was missing out on half the song. Also felt that the tracks were too long, again if I knew what the subject was or what they were singing about it may have made more sense.
Lively.
good as a joyful and relaxing background music
Second listen. Very nice music to have on in the background. Really enjoying the music.
Really different. Four long tracks, 35 minutes, spanning multiple genres - give it a go
Reminded me of latin music. It was good.
Some of it was good.
Nice short album…not familiar with the artist
Not my favourite Senegalese album but I'd probably listen again.
wouldn't buy
Didn't seem to be anything exceptional, but also was fun to listen to. A solid 3.
something a bit different! not hugely my taste but respect it
This is not something I would typically find myself listening to, so it's hard for me to rate. It sounds great, and is well recorded and composed, but I don't see myself coming back to it. 3* because it's certainly not a bad record, but it's not a record for me.
Good vibes
