Reviews (page 3 of 8)
Heard of the band and I though maybe I might have heard a song without realising, but I don't think so. I enjoyed, I'd be happy if they turned up on a playlist.
Randomly the only Supergrass album I've heard before now is 2005's Road to Rouen. But for years now, Low C is a song I revisit time and time again and has become a favorite of mine over the years. I don't love any songs from this album as much as that one, but it's a stronger record overall and I really dig their sound. Late in the Day, Sun Hits the Sky, and It's Not Me are the highlights for me.
O fim do disco deu uma cansada, mas surpreende a qualidade.
Enjoyed it a lot more than anticipated
Really good
Just great stuff. A little on the longer side. But I really liked it.
Reminds me of the Beatles; I like the rock vocal harmonies. I don’t love the angst, but I do like a similar angst in the Beatles … maybe that has to do with time of life? A little chaotic for what I want right now, but some cool musicality
I came across this album pretty early on in my music discovery and I still contend it is one of the best britpop albums innit
Probably not the follow-up to 'I Should Coco' that the record company wanted. Supergrass always had more about them than the press would have you believe. Their album sales seemed to run contrary to the quality of work produced, which just goes to show that I know nothing!
Supergrass might not make clever or revolutionary music, but this album has great energy and is packed full of pop hooks. I really enjoyed revisiting it.
Timeless
I actually enjoyed this a lot. Good late-spring fun.
> The Beatles Surprisingly good
Never heard of their music before so I was pleasantly surprised by how much they rock
Brit pop for the win!!
I enjoyed this album. Good sound. I listen to a lot of 90’s rock, so it’s strange to me that I’m not aware of this group at all.
Chad Britpop
Definitely a lesson to not judge a book by its cover! On first glance, I thought I was getting into a mildly cringey bluegrass album. Not at all the case. This was English rock at its best. The instruments were just fantastic and put me in mind of the other great rock bands from the 90's I grew up loving. The vocals were also quite good. I could never put my finger on what it reminded me of, but the lead singer's voice did feel a bit nostalgic listening to. I really enjoyed myself listening to this one. I would go to a concert and bob my head to any of these songs in person if given a chance. They were all exactly the thing I like: quality rock music with good lyrics and a nice vocal.
First half was great but second half wasn't quite as good. Liked it better than the first Supergrass album but not as much as other Britpop bands like Blur.
Insouciant.
This album grew on me. Initially I liked 4 of the songs: "In It For The Money", "Late In The Day", "It's Not Me", "You Can See Me". And I was thinking 4 out of 21 songs is not such a high rate. But after more listens I started liking other tracks too: "Sun Hits The Sky", "Wait For The Sun", "Nothing More's Gonna Get In My Way". So all in all it's pretty good album.
I completely missed Supergrass in the 90's. They might be my favorite of the Britpop adjacent bands though now that I'm listening to them.
Early pop-punk with strong female vocals — a much more musically interesting contemporary of bands like Paramore and Evanescence. Really nice work on the bass parts; the intro track drives fantastically. To be honest the 2021 remaster is where the money is — the original suffers from the oversaturated mids of the 1990s. Really enjoyed it.
Surprisingly a really good album. The A side was straight fire, I thought. Their jams were just a lot of fun to listen to. British Rock has a lot of bands I don't like, but I guess it is worthwhile to keep charting out the territory.
Another solid effort from these guys. Very little not to like here. 4
inventive, solid rock. I love it. Kinda Beatlesesque. 4.5/5
Pretty great album that I'd never heard before. Indie rock from England
Great album. Touches of psychedelia and garage about this. Received several plays and enjoyed listening to this a lot
In It for the Money - 4/5 Richard III - 5/5 Tonight - 4/5 Late in the Day - 4/5 G-Song - 4/5 Sun Hits the Day - 4/5 Going Out - 4/5 It's Not Me - 4/5 Cheapskate - 3/5 You Can See Me - 4/5 Hollow Little Reign - 3/5 Sometimes I Make You Sad - 3/5 Total score: 3.8/5 (rounding up) oh wow, *another* british group. what an absolute shocker. sarcasm aside, i enjoyed this quite a bit. the last track was ATROCIOUS tho, reminded me of creepy carnival music or something.
The only thing I knew about Supergrass was the music video for Pumping On Your Stereo. Right away, this album feels big. The songs are grandiose and undeniably rock and roll. Which is different from the more subdued 90s Brit-rock we've heard so far. This album is rollicking. It moves. And each song has it's own unique flavor. I could actually tell you the difference between them. Sidenote, the verse music on Cheapskates sounds like The Ghostbusters theme song.
First time listening to these guys (beside Alright, which I’m sure everybody knows and is a huge banger) and I loved it! A super fun album and I’ll definitely be checking out more of their work. Reminded me of Tame Impala on Hollow Little Reign, Last Shadow Puppets on You Can See Me, MGMT on Sometimes I Make You Sad, and Mother Mother on Late in the Day. (4.5 stars)
Rocking record
Surprised to see another Supergrass album here and even more surprised by the quality. That’s two great albums here so far.
Richard III and Sun Hits the Sky are right up there with some of the best Indie tunes from the era. I don't get the Supergrass hate, maybe it's the sideburns???
So, this is better than their other one on here. I gave that a 4 though but this one is not worth 5, say 4.5 rounded down. They mix it up more here and you can hear the influences. There is something uplifting about their music
Couldn't stop dancing to it!
I loved the other Supergrass album on this list and this one was also great. Well composed album, and it's pretty unique britpop, it's different from the others in the genre. No standout songs, but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit.
A fun listen beginning to end. Not familiar with Supergrass before this but I’ve liked both albums that have shown up.
Бодренько красиво
I like this one. A little more grungy than britpoppy. It's also a good album cover Will I listen to again: 80%
What a surprise! I knew the name "Supergrass", but had never consciously heard music from this group. I think this is the first album that I got to know and like this way. A powerful guitar and Hammond organ, I love Hammond organ. Hey, and the singing is great too. What more could I want? 4 stars!
Unexpectedly good, Sun Hits the Sky, Cheapskate, G-Song, and You Can See Me were all fantastic. Very underrated band and album, especially in the USA.
Not sure how I never heard of these guys among the 90's britpop scene. Overall, an enjoyable listen - not quite up the level of Oasis or Blur though. Added a few songs to my library and will check out some more of their albums. Album cover gets a 5/5 for being misrepresentative of the musical style.
I don't remember this at all but "Richard III" is a great track two jam. I would've been into this at the time.
Are these guys British? How did this come out in 1997, when I was literally a college radio DJ, and I’ve never heard them? Anyway, good stuff. Love the random moog synths and other psychedelic FX.
Another selection from the list that betrays Robert Dimery's british favoritism. It makes sense to have the first Supergrass album on the list because it has the hit song Alright and was still a fairly popular cut from the wave of britpop acts, but there doesn't seem to be anything notable about this other than being fairly well-received. Oh well. In It For The Money is a more rock-oriented sliver of britpop. Some of the tunes remind me of Fountains of Wayne with their pop-oriented style of energetic rock songwriting. The story goes that only two songs were written prior to recording, which shows a lot of impressive songwriting for the boys to make up most of these songs on the fly. Bangers wall to wall. The closing track is exceptionally weird for experimenting in fantastic ways that I could not fully explain. This might be just another britpop album but it's clearly a bright spot amongst the rest.
Good album. Has some great songs sprinkled on it.
Didn't know much about this band, but liked this.
Estoy benevolente
This album was fun and good to listen to. Doesnt quite get a 5 but solid 4-4.5.
Cool britpop that rocks out Standout tracks: In It For The Money, Tonight
A mixed bag but I think Gaz Coombes one of the more interesting of the britpop crowd. His solo albums are very good and show he has a good songwriting craft. Supergrass themselves were always moving around in their styles and though they wrote some great singles it's a bit hit and miss. Still, a good album though.
4.1 actually really really enjoyed. faves: in it for the money, cheapskate, its not me
Considering a review I wrote only a few days ago about a particular album, I think I’ve made it pretty clear britpop is generally not my cup of tea. So I wasn’t exactly exhilarated to learn there was another britpop album awaiting me. But thankfully, I have pretty pleasant things to say about this. From the very first track, this sets itself apart. So much so that I thought maybe the album had been mislabeled and was something else. But it became clear this is very much still a 90s britpop album. But it’s one that knows what it wants to be, and that confidence elevates it. This record goes for a much fuzzier and more blown out sound profile, which pulls on the same shoegaze and power pop influences of other hits in the genre. And for as amateur as they are, I like the vocalist a lot. The energy here is just so much more infectious and exhilarating, and it provides a very satisfying listening experience. But this doesn’t limit itself, and has unique elements to keep things interesting. I really appreciate the occasional use of horns and organs. The songwriting style combined with the singers voice make it so this doesn’t really feel like a late 90s album. It’s definitely drawing some inspiration from the 60s at points. But also the opening bit of the title track doesn’t sound too far off from something you might hear on an 80s gothic rock record. It’s a fun listen overall, and simply higher quality than the majority of britpop music I’ve heard so far. Rating: 7/10
Really got into this album. Always liked super grass but only knew their hits. Loved this period of Brit pop
Terrible album art, which gives a misleading impression of what the listener is about to hear. "Supergrass," specifically with that photo, seems like it's going to be bluegrass or folk or something like that but it was BRITPOP. I really liked it, specifically over the first half. Sounds a lot like the Oasis stuff I like.
Only knowing Alright I was going into this with an idea of what it could be like, but I was definitely wrong. Great album.
23/11/24 Never listened to Supergrass before, but it wasn't a bad album.
Diverse sound through a punk aesthetic. Great ride
i can see why taylor hawkins liked these guys so much! lots of fun highlights: in it for the money, richard iii, sun hits the sky (apr 14 2026)
I liked this some. Some of the songs stopped abruptly but on the whole a good album
Really enjoyed this-as always I knew the hits but don’t think I’d heard the whole album. A few weaker bits took it down one (is that beatboxing in the last track?!) but one I’ll definitely listen to again.
I liked it. I’d listen to more. Maybe a bit long.
Forget the Oasis hype…Supergrass were pushing out much better “Britpop” in the 90’s and this album is the perfect example of this. First class.
This list mostly had me despising Britpop so far. But I dig this
I don’t remember I Should Coco being as cool as this, but maybe it just hit right today. Not too shabby!
I just listened to disc 1, as the 2nd disc seems to have be some limited edition thing. When I saw the album cover I thought we'd get something along the lines of The Pogues, and was not very enthusiastic. I was quite wrong. I don't think I've ever heard this record before, but somehow it felt like I've heard at least half of the songs before. I don't know if they have been in some movies or TV shows I've seen, or if I am just imagining, but most songs felt easy to get into and were catchy. I must admit British rock bands leaning towards pop can definitely be hit or miss, but I am very impressed with this album, even though I don't feel like it's entirely my jam. Most songs are good, but there are actually more songs than usual that I would consider very good, such as 'Late In The Day', 'G-Song', 'Sun Hits the Sky', 'Going Out'. In summary I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it's not 100% my type of music, I still found it very good, which I find quite rare to be able to appreciate something in music that you're not fond of. So I'm giving this a 4, but think it might actually deserve more if you're into it.
I always confuse Supergrass with Supertramp and was surprised when the first dark chords started playing on "In it for the money". This wasn't at all what I was expecting. My only Supergrass connection is with "Alright" which is way more poppy than this album. This was grungy and guitar driven rock. I really liked it. Many catchy songs like "Sun hits the sky", "In it for the money" and "Richard III". The whole album held a very high quality and I am definitely a fan!
Really enjoyed this.
Supergrass is another band who I have heard of and only knew one of their songs "Alright." So I was a bit excited to hear this album and see if I enjoyed their music. It turns out, I do. I enjoyed almost every song on this album. Richard III, Late for the Day, Sun Hits the Sky, Going Out, It's Not Me...all really good tunes. I am excited to hear the other album in this book, whenever that may be. I tend to gravitate towards Brit-pop and this has been a very Brit-poppy week for me. I'm glad I was able to hear this album and I think it provides a different perspective of Brit-pop, plus the music is good.
Album was better than expected, having 2 Supergrass albums on this list not expected
p816.1997. 4 stars Sounds a collection of quality discards from the 60s - Small Faces, Kinks, Stones. Still fresh nearly 20 years on.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5
Probably need to give this another listen at some point as I was distracted throughout. Heard some Billy Corgan in there, some Oasis, some Bowie. I'll give it a 4 for now.
A solid album, a maturer harder sound from Supergrass following the breakthrough I Should Coco.
Generally, I'm not a big fan of Brit-pop, but there are some exceptions and a couple of albums by Supergrass are two of them. Their debut was on the list earlier and it opened up my eyes (or more accurately ears) to Supergrass and the follow-up is just as good. The record starts out strong with some solid hard hitting songs that are both catchy and energetic. It continues on with some ups and downs, but overall it was well worth the listen. Almost makes me think twice about other Brit-pop. We'll see.
As far as Brit pop, this is the type I prefer. They a quirky but not outright to the point that the music has to be ironically enjoyed. These guys lay down some excellent instrumentals and scream at the right times to make a tolerable punk album. They slow the music down properly and right some decent hooks. This is enjoyable as background our critical listening; it’s fun and energetic.
I always get Supergrass and Supertramp muddled up. This led to me expecting a completely different band than I ended up listening to (at least, until around 3 seconds into track one). This is good, fun britpop. Probably a little more rough and distorted than some other similar bands of the time, but still undoubtedly britpop mashed together with rock and roll. There are a few songs here that I already knew through regular radio play, but a lot that I didn’t. I’m glad I heard this album. It’s just fun.
I probably enjoyed this more than their others for reasons i cant explain.
One of the best albums that I like but can't really remember
Yeah, a.good, fun, indie album.
I was already familiar with this album, enjoyed re-listening. Tails off towards the end, but the hits still hit hard!
Didn't like their debut but - wow. I'd never heard this one - the first/title track made me sit up immediately as it kicked in, loving the harmonic quality combined with the punk energy. The worst part of the album though is by far the mix. Awful. So-typical mid90s over compressed shit which is unfortunate because I'd really like to have heard this in/with more dynamics and clarity. When I can ignore the mix it's great - much more variety than I'd expected. Vocals *can* tend to be a little grating in a Billy Corgan kinda way but for the most part the music overshadows it. "Sun Hits the Sky" is an early favourite because of the bass. That last one though ("Sometimes I Make You Sad") is out there...Bloodrock vibes? TL;DR: Really surprised how much I like this - stands out from most Brit-pop, could have been on the high 4 / maybe 5 end with a better mix but sounding like shit keeps it down. Still a keeper and a fun rock album. 7/10 4 stars.
Actually really enjoyed this.
First listen. Vocally this reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins. They rock pretty hard but it’s not exactly my style. It’s still very enjoyable and a good length. Highlights: “In It for the Money”, “Sun Hits the Sky” & “Going Out”. 3.5 stars.
Call me basic I guess because I love this band. Their first album was a gem when it was given to me earlier in this list and I loved it. This has just as high highs but I think I slightly prefer the rawness of their first record. 4.5/5
Supergrass is always solid.
Well this was fun. Every once in a while, you just need some fast tempos, distorted guitars, and mindless lyrics. Late 90’s in a bottle. Not quite interesting enough for a 5, but definitely enjoyable enough for a 4. 4/5 Highlights: In it for the Money Tonight Sun Hits the Sky Going Out
Good solid album
This entire list could comprise of artists discovered by John Peel. I didn't really like Supergrass' first album, but this one is much better.
It's good. Good enough to get the 4 star bump here. But I'm missing something with this band and I'm not sure what it is. 3.5/5
Some upbeat British 90s rock.
Love the hell out of it (9.5) ★★★★½
Great album with tight, catchy songs. Not much to add, really. 4 stars/8.5 out of 10 Best songs: Late In the Day, Richard III, Sun Hits the Sky, Going Out
It opens with the title track, the first 30 seconds sounds menacing until it builds into a sprawling chorus packed with some horns. Richard III is so catchy , very rambunctious tune Tonight has a sick af riff Late in the Day starts off acoustically but then turns into a psychedelic haze G-Song is a bit meh Sun Hits the Sky sounds both heavy and quite happy as well , the ending strangely has a Latin feel to it Going Out has some interesting keys ala Strawberry Fields Forever, but still has the modern Britpop flare It’s Not Me is a combination of Whiney sounding and bed 🛌 Cheapskate picks back up speed tho and has a bounce to it You Can See Me is super cool , some fuzz tho and the fuzz is fuzzy fuzz fuzz but it’s okay , there’s a wild Wild West feel to it😎 Hollow Little Reign sounds sexy Sometimes I Make You Sad is quirky and has an uh tsu uh tsu beat Overall closer to 4 stars but sticking with 3.5
It's good. Good enough to get the 4 star bump here. But I'm missing something with this band and I'm not sure what it is. 3.5/5
Never got into Supergrass when they were out. Listening to it now, it was way better than most of the Britt-pop of the time. Good listen.
The kind of Brit Pop I like striving for fun over perfection. Need to listen to this a few more times because it seems to slowly unveil itself.
Good album
Never heard of them before today, but definitely fits into my music preference wheelhouse.
Wasn't familiar with this band or any of the songs here. Nothing earth-shattering but it's an interesting sound and it grew on me over repeat listens. Some standout tracks were "Richard III" and "Tonight" but it stays interesting throughout. Some odd sound choices mixed in too, which I think I like.
This was good but largely forgettable. I find I only really like Supergrass for the singles that crossed over in North American (Caught By The Fuzz, Pumping on Your Stereo, Grace)
I had the Supergrass song "Pumping On Your Stereo" on a compilation cd back in the day. Although it's the only song I knew from them, I had some idea what to expect going in. I quite enjoyed this. It was a lot of fun with decent variety. The songs have held up well, especially compared to other Britpop groups of the era. I'm not quite sure why it made this list, but I'm lowkey glad that it did.
It's Brit-Pop from a time when Brit-Pop albums were a dime (or 10 pence) a dozen. Having said that, for my taste, I'd take Supergrass over Oasis any day. It's a fun, heavy hitting album that's easy to listen to and lacking pretentions. I'm not sure it needed to be on the list, but it's made a fan out of me.
Solid rock - nothing that stands out positive or negative, but still enjoyable to listen to
Pure joy of an album
as a self identified britpop disliker and somebody who didn't like their first album on this list all that much, i was pretty amazed at how good and eclectic this is. basically every song is good, while covering a lot of territory but still coming together in a pretty cohesive and tight package. definitely one of the most pleasant surprises for me on this list!
Gostei! Vou ouvir mais!!
I used to like Supergrass back in the day, never a follower but radio and singles were always good. They came across more light hearted than other bands at the time. Not sure if I listened to the full album back in the day, again its a solid album 90's Indie, you can't go wrong. Stand out tracks: - Richard III - Late in the day - G-Song - Sun hits the sky - Going out - It's not me - Cheapskate - Hollow little reign
This was so close to being a 5. It started off so strong and I loved it. It was like The Strokes but with less overdrive on everything. But alas they couldn’t keep it up. The second half of the album really drags and that’s what drops them to a 4. That and the fact it can be really hard to understand him at times. Otherwise it is a great album. I would totally listen to it again but maybe stop about half to 2/3 of the way through. Otherwise this was really solid. I was kinda concerned when it said it was BritPop that this was just gonna be another Oasis (🤮🤮🤮) wannabe but thankfully it was not.
Not familiar but pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed listening. Like guitars, melodies & energy even if lyrics were sometimes bland
Supergrass fan checking in here. After two albums, I must now admit there is Britpop I like.
This is solid.
I really liked this. I had never heard about Supergrass in my whole life, but I gave it a chance and it was a really fun listen. It is fast-paced britpop, going more to the side rock side. Thete are some really cool guitars, awesome solos, great basslines like in Cheapskate. Almost every song is a banger besides an obvious one. In this record, Supergrass arent scared of innovating, and they incorporate some very good synths and horns, that make their sound richer. The only things that I dislike were the production, and one particular song, because... What the actual fuck were these guys thinking when they made Sometimes I make you Sad?!
I Should Coco was an album that was part of my adolescence, but I had never stopped to listen to the other Supergrass albums. I found it impressive that the band found so much musical maturity from one album to the next. The first album is still and always will be a classic, but I really liked this one too!
First time hearing this one. Only know a couple Supergrass songs from the 90s... Really enjoyed this one as a first listen.
Good straight ahead rock n roll. Always liked super grass.
Solid album. Enjoyed both albums by these guys that the book presented. How come they weren't bigger? The music industry can be fickle.
Goddamn "Richard III" out of nowhere straight from FlatOut2. Good memories with this track. Also it's a great rock album. Legit.
Unterhaltsamer Brit Rock aus den 90ern. 4/5
very fun and playful power pop sound that clearly influences future australian bands like Wolfmother - really is a fun and enjoyable album.
fuck with this hardddddd! I love britpop, had some very memorizable moments and i loved when they stepped into the more experimental stuff. I saw some reviews that shit on those moments but those were actually my favorite. Def revisiting, favorite song = it’s not me
Yeah, this is me officially declaring my allegiance to Supergrass in the Blur vs Oasis beef. Favorite track: Richard III
In college I was the assistant music director for the campus radio station for a few years. The main job was to comb through all the CDs that promoters sent to the station and decide which ones got played. In addition to listening to tons of new albums, there was also a big back wall of music. Every time one of the upperclassmen recommended a band I should know, I went to the back wall, grabbed the whole discography and caught up on what I’d been missing. Supergrass was one of those bands. One summer, I had to drive down to campus from home every week to pick up the CDs that promoters sent during the summer months. I was always pretty grumpy about making that 90 minute drive but it was at least a good opportunity to listen to music. This album was in high rotation for that drive. It's packed with catchy, high-energy songs. I haven't listened to this in years but it's still pretty deeply ingrained in my memory. Supergrass have a punk attitude (especially in Gaz Coombes' sneering vocals) but there's a big influence from British classic rock bands like The Beatles, The Who and The Kinks. The music also features funk licks, splashes of Indian tabla, bursts of hard rock and more. And how about around 1:30 on "Hollow Little Reign" when the band turns into Chicago for a moment? "Cheapskate" was always my favorite. I must have put that song on every party playlist for a year or two straight.
There's more going on here then you first think. This becomes obvious when the first song gets in this rock and roll repetitive section and then abruptly ends out of nowhere as the second track starts. The second song then takes a minute to get going but when it does you get a fierce punkish rock and roll piece with plenty of energy and attitude that's interspersed with horns and very cool chord progressions that grab your attention. I was feeling kind of judgy when I saw the album cover and was expecting some kind of straightforward 70s classic rock, but this is much more than that, and I was also way off on the time period. I think this record contains some really fun and interesting compositions and performances that had a lot of care put into them. I've heard of the band before but had no idea of anything about them- this wasn't what I expected but I'm happy with what I got.
Album #201!! These guys are a blast. This is my second Supergrass album in the challenge and I really liked this one as well. Very fun and energetic.
Edgier britpop and all the better for it. Will revisit.
Never heard of these guys (have heard their big song on Spotify) but this was really good
pretty skillful shit
Surprisingly likable
I have not heard of this album or band before. I really liked the upbeat rock sound to this music and most of the tracks were pretty good. My favorite songs were the title track, and Cheapskate. I will listen again!
I've been sleeping on Supergrass. 4/5
The album starts up great with a 1-2-3 punch of three great songs, before the only okay "Back in the Day" slows the tempo down, along with G-song. Then Sun Hits The Sky gets the album back on track for a short while. The rest of the album passes by with no obvious highlights, except for the brilliant verses of You Can See Me and the bouncy closing track. Talking individual tracks, the obvious highlights are the singles Richard III, featuring amazing backing woos in the chorus and excellent use of the theremin, and the aforementiones SHTS, making handclaps cool again and having a driving bass lick. Also, Tonight is a catchy rocker, being driven forwards by efficient brass. All in all it’s an uneven album, but the high highs bring it up to 4 stars
It was a good album, I liked the title song, it was a strong opening. I also enjoy G-Song and It's Not Me.
„Late in A Day“, „It’s Not Me“ und „Sun Hit In The Sky“ kommen gut rüber. Das Album ist „In It“ for a repeat.
Great 90’d Brit pop/rock
4.2 I don’t know how I’ve never heard of this band. Very good album.
Really like this album… Music and arrangements were interesting and varied …. Particularly liked tonight and Sun hits the sky They used instruments and interesting ways and in a larger variety than most bands, and I dug it !
I didn't really get into Supergrass until Life on Other Planets. I don't know how I missed this one. It's pretty solid. I don't generally like brit-pop, this sounds like just good rock to me. The album is front loaded for me. The first five tracks are awesome. Then it fades a little for the latter half. Except for Cheapskate. That's my favorite on the album. It holds up throughout though and is well worth a listen. I will definitely be coming back for more.
Was supposed to see them open for Radiohead back in 2003. Have never listened to them before, but I really enjoyed this!
Solid all the way through and the first side is a banger.
Britpop gold
It seems weird to say but I had never heard of this album before. After reading some reviews and some of the Wikipedia about it, I am sort of surprised that I never had. It's a great album. It's got that 'tight but somehow still sloppy' sound that a lot of the bands leaned into in the 90s. Great sound. Great bass playing. Great sounding guitars. Some of it is very Billy Corgan-esque. It holds up pretty well and I think if this album were released today, it would be hailed as a throwback to when indie rock was becoming a bit more mainstream. A pretty solid 4/5 from me but wouldn't rate it higher than that.
Really enjoyed that. Some good slightly psychadelic 90s British rock. Reminded me a bit of of Dodgy with sprinklings of Smashing Pumpkins/Sonic Youth in there. First 5 tracks were absolute belters, but definitely trailed off a bit in the latter stages. Would have loved it to end on the penultimate song, don't understand why some bands end great albums with gimmicky songs (looking at you Kyuss/Lick Doo). Will listen to this many times again I'm sure.
I actually quite liked it, I listened to it a few times and enjoyed the sound. Some interesting influences all mixed together. Would listen to more of these guys
I really enjoyed the other Supergrass album that I got on this list, though it was one of the early albums that I got early on in the list. This album didn't grab me quite as much, but at least part of that is the sheer amount of music that I've heard and learned about since that time. Overall, this is a fun album that came at the tail end of the 90s alternative rock era. Worth a listen, even though I probably won't be coming back to this one 4/5
Tienen mucho power me hacen acordar a un monton de cosas jajaja tiene algo de Sex Pistols, también se nota algo de Queens of the Stoneage, Strokes? Franz Ferdinanddd WTF? Bueno una combinación de muchas cosas, pero sin ser ninguna de esas puntualmente, los coros asi medio disonantes me gusta tiene algo como espacial medio alienss, recontra va. Suena tremendo!
First time listening to this album and band. Pretty impressed. Super catchy Brit-pop sensibilities mixed with the energy of garage rock. Would listen to more.
Well, I had completely forgotten I ever had this album, but from the opening bars, a huge weird realisation remembering. I think it was on the other other side of my tape-to-tape copy of The Fat of the Land, therefore has been listened to A LOT. and therefore familiarity bias. I think a friend put it there as a bonus as I don't remember particularly liking Supergrass, but I did love Richard lll.
Surprisingly good. I thought this was going to be generic UK trash, and maybe it is, but I got more out of it than expected. 4, since I don’t remember it that well, but I enjoyed it a good amount.
How to go from not knowing what Supergrass was to hoping they’ll reunite, in one hour! Not the first Beatlesque album this month, but ye don't hear me complainin HL: title track, “Late in the Day”, “Sun in the Sky”, "Cheapskate", "You Can See Me" February 17, 2024
Grew on me the more I listened to it. If I was a cool person I would listen to this album. Fav songs Tonight and Sun Hits the Sky
Good shit.
The B-Side is surprisingly amazing.
Rock, britpop, garage, jam, male, mid/fast, organ, cans, pushy, badass massive sound, reminds me on the Foos here and there. "sun hits the sky" was on a sampler/mixtape, but can't remember. Good record
Honestly I hated the first 30 seconds of it and then it rocked. I dug the garage rock brit pop sound, and I didn't mind it when they slowed it down a bit. Good stuff.
I watched their 2023 Glasto set, and realised they're one of those bands where you know way more of their songs than you thought you did. There's plenty in here which were pleasant reminders of that. I think this is overall a good album. I love the trumpet on the opener. And then really, to be honest, when it's at its best it's with the singles and bigger hits. I thought it tailed off a bit in the last third or so. There's some great songs in here though. Great melodies, happy singalong times. I may revisit the album, but it'll mostly be putting the bigger tracks into playlist rotation.
Really enjoyed this, 90's Britpop with short catchy songs, def re listen
A poppier and more pranksterish Janes Addiction. A differently delicious and spicier flavor of Britpop – with a lot of glam and punk, considerable new wave and a dollop of vintage ‘60 psychedelia (think Kinks and Beatles). This band did not fully take back in the day but one more than gets the appeal now, which is multi-layered and fun, boisterously baroque but sweet and tuneful at the same time.
Really solid!
I had fun with this album, enjoyed it until the end, can't say any songs in particular stand out though so you may argue it's a little forgettable. But enjoyable nonetheless.
Super enjoyable. More than I thought I was gonna like it. It surprised me as I knew super grass from their more britpop psychedelic songs like Grace and Alright so I wasn't expecting a more punk sound but I think I preferred this sound over their future albums. F.song: Richard III
Cool rock music. Stand-out: Cheapskate
Their first album was rollicking good fun. But this second one always seemed a bit more mature and considered. There’s not one song here I don’t like but I also remember them all from way back when, so that warm nostalgic blanket is covering everything. Late in the Day is a superb song and these guys always seemed to be genuine down to earth blokes who enjoy making music together. I’m sure that’s not entirely true but it’s what comes through. I also love their wryness at times; does anyone else guffaw at the title? You did it, lads!
I vaguely remember this coming out, me giving it a few spins, thinking it was OK, and quickly forgetting it. That's how I started off feeling about this one today, but as it went on, I found myself digging it. There weren't any obvious bangers like their big hit song "Alright" from their previous album, but there were a few that I rather enjoyed. Plus, they mix it up a bit, and their arrangements are pretty cool. I feel like this album might grow on me if I gave it more listens, so it's a 3.5 rounded up
Some of the songs were pretty catchy. I give it a 3.5/5 starts
This was interesting. You could hear some definite influence from The Beatles on several songs.
I've never heard of these guys before, but I like them.
I like Supergrass, their sound is a good example of alt rock/power pop I enjoy: fast-paced, driving drums, vocals that aren't grating, somewhat consistent and predictable but occasionally mix things up to not make it boring. Standout is "Richard III".
Supergrass may state they do it for the money (like Zappa), but of course that is not the case. This album shows a band that is having a lot of fun with nice indie rock songs. Their debut album (I Should Coco) has more classic songs, but this is a great album too.
Liked it slightly better than I was expecting. In some ways it felt like a rip off of every other British group in the 90s and in some ways it felt significantly better than many of those groups since it didn’t dwell on any singular sound for too long. 7/10
way cooler than i thought it would be. super catchy at times
deve se bao
I was really feeling this one to the point where I was ready to give it a 5 until the last three songs. Those didn’t really click for me. Loved the rest though. Favorite songs are In It For The Money, Richard III, Sun Hits The Sky, and It’s Not Me.
Solid album from accomplished musicians.
I see where the Strokes got there sound.
Vermakelijk, vette nummers, lekker divers.
Not what I expected but enjoyable nonetheless. A great lesson in "you can't judge a book by it's cover." I thought for sure this would be bluegrass.
Really cool indie rock. sounds older then '97 but still fits as a '90s band
Nostalgic of my youth
Great album from a permanently underrated band.
Amazing album, misleading album cover.
I had never heard this one before. I enjoyed every second of it!
Great album
Supergrass released their second album, In It for the Money, in 1997. The album is considered a Britpop classic and has received positive reviews from critics. The album is more mature and heavier than their debut album, I Should Coco. The album has a mix of hard, punk, and melodic rock, with added horn sections and sunny melodies. The album has a more serious tone and is more consistent than their debut album. The album has stood the test of time and has probably aged better than much of the throwaway Britpop of the time. The album has sold more worldwide than their debut album, I Should Coco. Pros: The album is considered a Britpop classic and has received positive reviews from critics. The album is more mature and heavier than their debut album, I Should Coco. The album has a mix of hard, punk, and melodic rock, with added horn sections and sunny melodies. The album has sold more worldwide than their debut album, I Should Coco. Cons: The triple-disc reissue of In It for the Money can dampen some of the album's energy . The song "It's Not Me" has a horribly annoying synthesizer that comes close to ruining the entire piece . The album has a more serious tone and lacks the exuberance that fueled their first album .
Great album I never heard. A bit of punk and a sprinkle of funk
nice
I actually thought this was pretty good. Catchy songs, great singing. 7/10.
B+ In It for the Money 4 Richard III 3 Tonight 3 Late in the Day 5 G-Song 3 Sun Hits the Sky 3 Going Out 3 It's Not Me 4 Cheapskate 3 You Can See Me 4 Hollow Little Reign 4 Sometimes I Make You Sad 5 If I had a quid for every British bloke who made something cool in the 90's, I'd have more money than the Queen! (Not really, but I had to finish with something British and I didn't want to name-drop a British billionaire)
Reminds me of Porcupine Tree with some Beatles spiced in
Beats the sophomore skump
Two SUpergrass albums in one week - prior to this year I'd never listened to them at all but I've found that actually they're on the edgier side of the whole britpop fiasco - I can't say I hate that!
Already like it a lot
Vastly better and more fun than most of the bands liked into britpop.
Not quite Supergrass but still Prettygoodgrass
Random but I love it: before this I though Supergrass were purely a one-hit wonder yet I would say I'm a fan of the band now. Do I see this as being a first pick for the list? No, but it stands its ground very well. Honestly seeing them appear in my daily mix is a pleasant surprise and the classic britpop feel around them is perfection in the genre.
Oxford alt rock pop version of oasis thats different
Kinda all over the place. Lots of different influences. I didn’t not enjoy the album but I’m not sure it is a hallmark for me
such britpop. Can’t believe I hadn’t heard of them before. Or… maybe I can. Can’t decide if I like or hate the cover; I don’t love it and I’m not neutral. The songs are good. The vocals are fine, I can’t really make out the lyrics. The guitars are big. Melodies at times remind me of the kinks. What year did this come out? 2001? A couple tracks remind me of early arctic monkeys, too, although I suspect this predates them. And the who. Very much the who on “going out.” And beatlesesque harmonies (and lyrics) on “you can’t see me.”wow, the stops (not epiglottal, idk the word, the four-on-the-floor noises they’re making) on the last track are near identical to the beat on spoon’s “stay don’t go.” Who got there first!!???! Spoon maybe wore it better. I dunno. All told it is a nice record. Kind of like… I dunno, little feat: it’s nice, it’s good, I enjoyed it, I don’t really see myself listening to it over and over. Perhaps it ushered in an era and just sounds blasé to me now. Although… blasé is too strong a word.
the biggest crime is how short the outro to richard III is. the solo at the end of hollow little reign carries. also, cheapskate/you can see me supremacy.
that funny sorta groove
I’ve never listened to Supergrass. I only know about them because one time somebody said I looked like the guy from Supergrass. It somehow completely missed me, like Pulp. I got Oasis, Blur, Travis, and The Verve over here… I’m actually surprised how much I like this! It’s kind of like a mix of 90’s Brit pop, glam rock, and Queens of the Stone Age or something. Heavy 60’s influence too. Richard III fucking rocks! Tonight almost is like a T. Rex song, with catchy horn breaks! Late in the Day is a bit Petty-ish G-Song had a great solo! Sun Hits the Sky is fantastic! That synth solo, and the outro is basically sped-up Krautrock! Great neo-psych stuff going on too. Very surprising! This is an easy 4. I’ll have to keep listening, but this one is the biggest surprise of the list so far.
Great album, no bad tracks and all works well
This album surprised me! I expected it to be in line with the music being put out my their contemporaries over there in foggy ol' England: Oasis, Blur, the Verve, what have you. But this was somehow...weirder? Some songs almost seemed a little more aggressive, even? Parts of it brought to mind "90s britpop but almost grunge". If that seems like an odd pairing, fear not: it works! I certainly enjoyed it more than any Oasis album that has come across my desk. Lots of energy, good hooks but without being overly formulaic. I'd listen again.
Yes
I wasn't expecting anything great when I saw the name and cover but actually really enjoyed the album there's some really good songs on there.
i don't know what i was expecting from supergrass but i quite like this. richard iii and tonight were a fun duo. i didn't particularly like sun hits the sky. cheapskate was probably my favourite, although hollow little rain was funky and fun too. i hardly remember the middle of the album so i am tempted to give it 3.5, perhaps this is the perfect 3.75 album but that feels pedantic and i did really like the ones that i remember so i'll allow 4. hang on i think i have rated an album 3.75 before, but oh well i already made my decision.
I'd never heard Supergrass before this album, but it was pretty good! I really liked several of the songs, and could see myself listening again. It got a bit tedious to listen to - there wasn't enough variance in volume and intensity. It makes for an album best listened to in short bursts rather than all in one sitting.
Never heard of Supergrass before getting suggested this so this was a completely blind review. This unsurprisingly is a really great rock album. I really enjoyed it throughout. I would suggest everyone giving it a listen because it to me felt like one of those albums that are just an easy listen. I will say that while it is great there was not really any track that stood out to me from the rest because this album is very consistent in it's quality. 9/10-9.5/10.
This is wonderful. Feels authentic and original while also being enjoyable to listen to. Things do start to blend together, but the songs themselves are great. The experimental bits work without being too much. Surprised it’s this good for never having heard of it. 4/5
pretty good britpop. nice vibes and i enjoyed the wikipedia article that included a note about how the band recorded their own grunting sounds for Sometimes I Make You Sad. favorites: sun hits the sky, in it for the money
I like these musicians
I liked it. By the name of the group I expected bluegrass music. Was surprised
Not gonna lie, I picked this album for its name alone. Initially I was put off by the length (3hr) until I realized the original release is Disc 1... Going to review on that alone as that is manageable. I can't say I've listened to many albums beyond the 1.25 hr mark that weren't marred by lack of discipline in arranging. Leads off with the title track which features a slow crescendo intro that builds upon a repeating minor guitar riff accompanied by some drums and a crooning vocal. A minute and a half in, the song opens up following a chant of the song's title and gives way to a pretty typical sounding rock song. Fine song; great opener, but not really my cup of tea. Drops unceremoniously into Richard III. I'm into the bass tone that this is leading with. Some grungy influence here. Nice theremin feature. Solid rock song. I dig it. Tonight is another fine rock song. A bit messy feeling with all of the layers on top of one another, but altogether a fine execution. Late in the Day pumps the breaks on the forward momentum of the album with an acoustic guitar lead ballad. G-Song is a traditional sounding song, but I groove with it. Really into the production. Also has a jammy feel to it like they could break out at any point live and just rip. Sun Hits the Sky is another ripper -- the bass breakdown has a Geddy Lee feel to it. Cheapskate is a fine long. I like the bassline and production in general. I really like Hollow Little Reign. It has a folksy arrangements, but is highly effective and groovy song. Has a classic rock vibe to it and allows the instrumental to take the outro on a soul searching quest. Album rounds out on Sometimes I Make You Sad, which interestingly opens up with what sounds like a beatbox + distorted upright bass. Very odd song, but I'm into it. This has been an interesting listen. I'm glad I went on the ride. Supergrass is a new one to me, but clearly they have a lot of critical acclaim behind them. They put together a psych-alternative-rock album that has a ton of variety and some solid jams. I'm a light 4 on this one.
I liked this. It's like a grungier Neon Trees.
Decent 7
I was pleasantly surprised by this album. By the album cover it looked like folk or something but turned out to be some cool rock tunes. 4/5
Very fun, energetic britpop record. Very much its own thing. On many songs brings unique ideas to its sound. Will gladly listen to it again
Interesting album that feels like a fusion of pop-punk, alternative, and some classic rock. There are a lot of unique sounds in this song that all work really well together. Sometimes I Make You Sad is a stand out in this regard. There are definitely some middling songs throughout that I start to tune out a bit, but this album feels so unique and their experimental sounds are all incredible while not straying too far from a traditional rock band sound. Easy 4 star album. Interesting enough to listen to again.
Big, ambitious and playful, this is Suoergrass going for Sgt. Pepper. Still think Late In The Day should end the album, but that's just me.
Plenty of memorable songs that have stood the test of time. It's a lovely sound, rich and dense, just a little murky. The tracks I hadn't heard before stood up well, with little filler.
Didn't get to hear the whole thing but really liked what I did listen to!
Je m'attendais pas à autant apprécier étant donné le style, mais c'est vraiment solide comme album. Les compositions sont entraitantes et bien construites. Pas le genre d'album que je reviendrais souvent, mais clairement de la musique de qualité. 8/10
I'm dumbfounded as to why this didn't hit in the States. Was it too early? Too late? Does the lead singer sound just a bit too much like Billy Corgan at a time when many had soured on his bullshit? Or maybe the album cover made CD buyers believe this was bluegrass. It matters not. I'm tickled to finally learn about this band, because this thing is just an overall blast. Admitting you're only in it for the money is freeing.
I was borderline 4 on this one. It’s a really good effort and I enjoyed this a lot. Supergrass have some great hooks despite their eccentricities, but actually those eccentricities also making them charming. It proves they were much more than just the hit Alright. They were a bonafide contributor to the Britpop movement and maybe one of the more underrated.
Solid 90s album. I'll have to revist this.
It took me a few attempts to get through all of this as it was quite long - but glad I persisted as I ended up liking it lot! I'm not that familiar with Supergrass (other than the obvious ones) so I'm glad this came up. Particularly disc one, which was full of super catchy quintessential Brit-pop numbers. Just quite upbeat and feel good. Strayed a bit in disc two, but I did enjoy the funny song about sex. Great rhyming, "Sometimes it burns sometimes it stings" etc etc.
Been in heavy rotation.
I didn't pay these guys enough attention at the time - this record is pretty good!
This kicked ass. I liked it a lot. Could it be because my ears have been bombarded with hot liquid shit for over a week? No, I don’t think so, I think I just enjoyed it. Would listen again.
Very good guitar album, from start to finish.
Surprisingly pretty enjoyable britpop album with fairly catchy songs and strong power pop influence. So a lot of power chords and guitar-driven songs, upbeat, harmonizing vocals, etc. Not as immediate as you would think though for a “catchy” album but still I enjoyed it.
The bridge between their earlier, more fun albums and the later more mature content. Possibly their most complete and best album
Very good and quirky. Would like to listen more
underrated!!
Solid listen overall. Can hear where it came from, and what it helped inspire very clearly. A style of rock that is very nostalgic to me, yet I had never heard this album before.
Classic 90s Brit Pop
i only knew one song from supergrass before i heard the album and it was "Alright" but damn this was heavier than i thought it would be. such a great album with an incredible opening. the last songs werent as good in my opinion. great runtime, perfect length. 4/5
I liked this a lot. I don't know Supergrass all that well but enough that I knew I would dig this. I never thought of them as a British band before and while that does not change my rating, it did sort of reset where I was coming from with this record. It probably is too long. But I think that may be my only complaint about it. The songs are great and the sound has aged really well.
I got caught out by another deluxe edition here - thought it was a double album and listened to all 80ins or so. Then found the proper 45ish minute one, which is much better! Some very good songwriting on here, I'm surprised I haven't heard more of these songs before.
strong 3, light 4
What a surprise this turned out to be! These dudes are what would Smashing Pumpkins would have become in a universe where Billy was happy. Really fun and diverse sound to this one. It's hard to not have a good time while listening to this. I can hear bits of other bands in this as well. Namely My Chemical Romance. I get huge MCR vibes and it wouldn't surprise me to find out Gerard and gang are fans of Supergrass. The timelines surely line up. My only complaint is it seems like each song is mastered by a different person each of whom have differing opinions on how loud a song should be. This was the 2021 Remaster too so I'm scared of what the original sounded like. Anyway, quite good! 4
Totally would have been my jam if I knew about it when it came out. Some really good songs on here. Was definitely hearing some Oasis (without the annoying pretentiousness) at times, and some Smashing Pumpkins too. I definitely want to hear more. 1 - bad 2 - average 3 - good 4 - great 5 - outstanding
1997. In It For The Money, Richard III, Tonight
Better than I expected
Singles are great. Remember at the time being a little disappointed following the brilliance of I Should Coco, but time (and age) have clearly mellowed me. Really enjoyed this.
Good album from front to back
Surprised how varied the album is! Don’t start that strong with the opening track but it definitely picked up imo Saved songs: Richard III, Late In The Day, G-Song, You Can See Me, Sometimes I Make You Sad
Classic Britpop album!
This one really won me over as it went. At first I thought I was going to be in for 60s nostalgia masturbation, but as the thing went on it was incorporating more contemporary sensibilities that fused really well
Hadn't heard this album but had heard some of their hits. Started strong, meandered in the middle, but I liked the back half.
Little beatles-y, little Smashing Pumpkins-y, little White Stripes Some excellent blues-y guitar riffs and driving drums. Energetic, fun, modern punky rock feel. Kinda monotonous by the time you get to the second disc.
This is a really fun album!
I love that this is fuzzy. Like a fuzzy Pulp or Blur. Hold up pretty well in 2022
This is not my style of music, but holy cow, the beats are catchy.
90-00 Indie Brit rock. I loved super grass as a teen but had only heard their more pop style not the rock. It was a great trip down memory lane for me and started me listening to other stuff that I used to love like the manic street preachers and razorlight
Supergrass are the standout band I hadn't heard before starting this. Much more inventive and strange than I'd assumed, deserve more praise (though by all accounts they get quite a bit). This was a bit more polished than Coco so lost a bit of charm but still full of great songs.
I'm sounding like a broken record, but again I had not properly listened to Supergrass before. They have an interesting sound which means the album never became boring. I really liked it, will definitely listen to this again. Highlights were "Tonight", "Richard III" and "Cheapskate".
Enjoyed this. Quite a mix of styles here. Think I might have preferred the previous supergrass album but this was still very good
mas o menos
The album starts off amazing (until it’s not me it’s a 5/5) but then the last couple are quite lacklustre (and it’s a worse album than I should coco) so it’s 4/5.
Echoes of Animals-era Floyd are interesting, and they have a good ear for a hook. Feels a bit bitty though, with even some of the songs sounding like a couple of melodies have been half completed and then shoved together. I liked it all the same.
The exuberance, even ebullience, is intact from the first record but this has some darker hues and tones. It’s mutli-layered, nearly baroque. What makes this different from/better than plain ol’ dumb rock, which it again and again approaches, are the many nifty flourishes – blowsy horns, bleeping and whistling synths, striding pianos, the skipping or stately organs, the odd string section, well-timed wah-wah. Net-net — they are more than a little willing to get Beatlesesque-groovy, much to the listener’s benefit. “Going Out” is best of a very strong lot, a wonderfully maximalist banger with tender melodies within. And who doesn’t love a song about “Richard III”?
British rock, pop. Pretty good
Oooh, it's thiiiiis 🤏 close to being a 5. Really appreciate the flow of this album - feels like a journey. Love the shifts of tone between songs. Would definitely go 4.5 if that were an option. Fave track - really like "Richard III", which was Supergrass' "Song2" in that it appealed to the metal enjoyer I was at the time it came out. Quite a few of the other tracks I really dig, but special mention to "Sometimes I Make You Sad" for some great squelchy noises....
Étant actuellement très pris par la Coupe du monde, je n'ai pour la première fois pas ouvert le générateur au cours d'un jour ouvrable. Lorsque j'allumai mon portable au soir, j'eus la surprise de voir que Robert m'avait laissé dix-sept messages vocaux m'astreignant d'écouter In It For The Miney.
This one was a surprise. Not what I was expecting at all. Great 90s alternative rock. There’s some interesting 60s, britpop, and psychedelia influences as well. Do I think it is a must-hear before you die? Probably not. Is it that bad? Absolutely not. Good stuff.
I can't stand most 90s alternative British rock, other than Radiohead (yes that includes Oasis), so before I heard of this album I thought it would just add to the pile, but this was pretty great. A lot are mentioning influences like Oasis and Beatles, and while I do hear that, all I could think during was actually Smashing Pumpkins. Not only in his voice, but being able to rock out then reel it back in to really give the album some nuance. Not every song is a banger or anything, but this was still really enjoyable, and the last few songs were absolutely fantastic.
Lots of really fun rocking tracks on this one, almost a bit of Smashing Pumpkins in amongst the Britpop.
Some solid Brit pop!!! Supergrass was never top of list but this was very enjoyable
A 3.5, but I rounded up because it was better than I thought it would be.
I had an online friend who used to be swear by Supergrass and turned me onto their first album. He’s been off the grid for a minute now, so I hope he’s doing well. I never actually got around to listening to their other stuff, though, so this was all new to me. Still pretty good! Strong melodies and a good sense of humor, but not too cloy with its comedic tracks either. They deserve to have been at least as big as Oasis were here. B
They're all great at their respected instruments. Great mix of faster moving and slower moving songs. Very good vocals.
Actually enjoyable as background music me: likey
Prefs: In It For the Money, Richard III, Tonight, Late in the Day, Sun Hits the Sky, Going Out, Hollow Little Reign Moins pref: Sometimes I Make You Sad
Really liked.
Very solid post-britpop album. Cheapskate my favourite track.
Surprised I've not listened in full before. Very much worth it.
Dang, I wish I knew about this album back in 1997! It would've been right up my alley! I love the opening track. The album is long but really fun. Gives me Guided by Voices/early Blur/Dandies vibes in all the best ways. Really enjoyed this, I may add it to my rotation.
Soundtrack to my youth. Great, and always will be
Really fun album! It's a bit long, but it held my interest throughout. Favorite tracks: Sun Hits the Sky, Sitting Up Straight
Fun rock album. Can hear influences from the Beatles and the Stones with a modern twist
I listened to this a lot when it came out (the single from the first release, Alright, was a favorite of my very young son) and I was on the bandwagon. I always thought this was an impressive jump from their debut. They integrated many styles in a way that didn't seem either forced or jarring. Lots of elements 2of classic rock (including psychedelia), but without sacrificing the punky pop elements from their debut. They eschew cleverness while being tuneful - not always an easy balance.
This band owes a debt of gratitude to Oasis, not to mention the Beatles. The songs are very upbeat and fun British power pop with layers of sound.
I hear elements of the Revolver-era Beatles, Oasis, Stones, and Tom Petty in this. Nothing groundbreaking in here, but this is a solid rock and roll album. G-love was my favorite track on here. Essential? No. But at least it’s good.

liked this one a lot. felt like somewhat generic 90s alt but it was still very fun and enjoyable. probably will come back to it.
Enjoyed thoroughly. Lags a lot in the second half, but the first half is killer.
Aggressive pop with a hint of grunge. Would definitely listen again.
