Reviews (page 4 of 8)

Surprisingly good rock music. Lots of great tracks.

Okay, this band is growing on me. This was a pretty fun album.

It's a great slick and happy album to listen to. Not as jumpy as their first, but a bit more polished. Good music.

4/5. Supergrass made quite a good Brit-pop album here, might be as good as the Bends

I got this a week after I Should Coco, so both are pretty fresh in my mind. Both are enjoyable to listen to. I feel as a whole In It For The Money is better, but it doesn't have the same peaks as its predecessor. Was cool to hear Sun Hits The Sky after hearing the riff in The Inbetweeners. Also liked the opening two tracks and cheapskate a lot.

Fun album

what a misleading cover art

Solid bit of work that doesn't give away the tense circumstances under which it was evidently created. First half/two thirds is better than the latter part, probably, but the best songs on here are major highlights of the later end of Britpop.

Litt vel langt album, men i det store og det hele kult. Synes det tok seg opp fra sang 4. Late in the day - foreløpig favoritt. Kune hørt dette igjen.

Very enjoyable album, I was very surprised by its content, giving the bad taste of the cover.

Better thaN i Thought. Thanks 1001 for the discovery. Britpop, mix between Oasis, the stroke..

Liked it way more than I thought I would.

This is a very accomplished album. Is it as good as I Should Coco, their brilliant and much lauded debut? I'm not the one to ask. You see In It for the Money is my introduction to Supergrass and as such will always hold a unique place for me. Regardless In it for the Money is a GREAT brit pop album and packs a rockers punch that other more celebrated albums of the genre never quite reach for me. Every song has their charms. I had forgotten how good an album this is. 4.5 🌟

Oh a very misleading album cover. Really enjoyed this.

Really enjoyed this, felt very related to Pavement, Dandy Warhols, Oasis, and maybe Blur. But faster paced than most and an interesting mix of grungy sounds with other genres. Will definitely be relistening in the future.

I'd never heard of these guys. This was a nice surprise. They reminded me, somewhat, of Burning Brides. "G Song", "Cheapskate", and "How Little Reign" were the standouts. "Sometimes I Make You Sad" is an earworm song.

Oh wow, another super grass record. I’ll check this one out today

Always a good sign when every track sounds like a single. A quantum leap from the caffeine rush of the first album.

How come I ignored this band for so long? It is a great follow to their debut.

They're Smashing Pumpkins... if Billy had a positive attitude. This is a lot of fun but it is too long.

Tú sí que eres soso.

The lads certainly hit their straps with this one. Richard III through to G-Song a four track slab of goodness.

The hangover/come down from Britpop begins in earnest. Mix of perfect power pop / indie rock with a darker sensibility. Things weren't alright anymore. Best Tracks: Richard III; Sun Hits The Sky; Going Out

This was a decent album

What sounds like a theramin saves a rather clichéd arrangement of Richard III. Interesting maj7 variation of the standard blues riff in Tonight. Pleasing chord pattern and arrangement in Late in the Day. Sun Hits the Sky and Cheapskate top, catchy tracks. You Can See Me also decent. Sitting Up Straight nods to punk influence and Melanie Davis could have been spawned by her phonetic namesake Ray. Sex sounds like a Stones cover - I like it! Got to commend this album. 21 songs and enough variety to make it interesting throughout. Well played, thoughtful arrangements, interesting changes. Not an absolute classic for me but an enjoyable listen.

Skemmtilegt plata, eflaust þeirra besta.

Pretty solid, seems foundational

90s were the best

That was nice! Supergrass was much more than Alright

В альбоме можно встретить очень разные песни. Торжественные, блюзовые баллады, арт - рок-ен-рольные, с вставкой пианино или синтезатора. Атмосферно, для любого настроения.

Very enjoyable

Enjoyed this

Late in the day Richard III Sun hits the sky It's not me In it for the money Et pourtant pas leur meilleur album.. quel groupe

No stand out favorites, but this album surprised me. Has a fun rock feel. I like the longer guitar solos. Would listen to again. Nice energizing the background music for work!

Some proper bangers from the old days - better than I remembered and holding up well after 20 years

A big Supergrass fan, and you have to wonder what would have happened to their careers had Spielberg followed through with his plan to install them as the "new monkees". Great upbeat Britpop that should have had a longer legacy

skroz solidno, neki teski miks zanrova, bas je top, 4

From the cover and the band name, I was kinda hoping for some sort of electric bluegrass situation. I was mildly disappointed, upon hitting play, to find out that Supergrass is just another britpop band. After getting over my disappointment, I realized something else about this band: this is where Jack White got his sound. He legitimately lifted it wholesale from Supergrass. I had to check the wiki to be sure that this wasn't, in fact, an early Jack White project. The two are utterly indistinguishable. Jack White, you're a dirty thief and I didn't even know it. As far as the album goes, it was fun but, like a Jack White joint, nothing super exceptional.

Surprisingly silly and raw. I quite enjoyed this, although wish I could maybe chop it in half into two albums.

Supergrass is Super fun

Dug it. Little too slow / odd near the end of the 2nd album but overall enjoyed

That was fun. Lots of variety, it's not grunge or Britpop but has a mix of a lot of styles. Good tunes.

A pleasant listen.

Above average entertaining. Wouldn't listen to the whole album again. Put some of the songs on my favorites to repeat.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: In it for the money

Ret fedt, meget 90' agtigt

Quite a good surprise. Ran over a little too long without adding much in my opinion. Would listen to CD 1 again.

Uvijek sam za da poslušam britpop. Iznenadio me album, ima stvarno dobrih stvari. Favoritne: Richard III, G Song, Sun Hits the Sky, Going Out.

Britpop jeugdsentiment

Really enjoyed this album. Will be listening to it again!

I am gay. Supergrass are alright though

Great little album. Class tunes

Good album but wouldn't listen to it again

Good darts

Decent wall of sound when played loud. Sun Hits The Sky was a highlight as well as this version of Caught By The Fuzz. Gaz's voice doesn't match his face though. 4 stars

Solid album with some great tracks and it's well produced too. Just too long for my taste. To be great, a record needs to be tighter. When the running time is 71 mins there's too much opportunity to put weak tracks on there that detract from the overall score, which is what happened here. When it's good it's really good though. Supergrass have always been one of my favourite underrated British bands of the nineties.

Goofy album, I liked it though. Quirky 90s alt rock, couple bangers.

odd one, there are 5 of supergrass' best tracks on here. richard III, late in the day, sun hits the sky, going out and its not me, but the filler is just a bit too shit. in true Alan Partridge fashion i would rather listen to the greatest hits album, i'd never put this album on to bask in this creative body of work. weird i'd consider myself a supergrass fan but this is probably their best album and i'd rather listen to the singles. same sort of thing with new order. stilll gets a decent score though cos those 5 tracks as a 5 track EP would get a decent score.

Fantastic band. Not quite as good as their debut, but a hell of a follow up.

Strong 4 stars

Yeah it was pretty good! Little repetitive.

Great alt rock album, definitely some bangers and will be following the band more Fave track: Richard III

Pretty funky and rockin'.

101021 17:33 4

Excellent followup, more mature song writing

Really enjoyed this album. I could hear the influences from both directions from the other big name bands of the 90's.

Nearly a 5 star. A combination of fantastic pop/brit rock with dashing of psychedelics and some fantastic songwriting. My only issue is that it does seems to drift a bit at times, losing focus. Would have been better 3-4 songs shorter.

Why i see Radiohead everywhere?

4/5, really cool. I had not paid attention to it before

happily impressed

Good Album. Never heard of them before and will keep them in my playlist.

It was good

Didn’t know this band, but really enjoyed this album.

I really dug this. We had watched a documentary on BritPop in the 90s so I had heard of this group but knew nothing about the songs. Some of the songs did start to blur together a bit, but maybe that was just me. Still, very enjoyable.

This was a tough one to rate so I gave it a few listens. The first 2 tracks feel incomplete to me. They both fade out right when they seem like they're going to get interesting. I keep hearing this great instrumental break in my head during Richard III that never happens. I originally thought 3 stars because it's a good average album but I've noticed that a lot of the songs have gotten stuck in my head during the day. "Tonight", "Late in the Day" and "Sun Hits the Sky" in particular. The album has really grown on me. Enough for a 4th star (or at least a 3 1/2 rounded up)

Good power pop. I've been enjoying it on repeat, but none of it is really sticking (i.e., I don't find myself recalling the songs when I'm not playing it). I can definitely see listening to it again but it's strange that I can't seem to keep it in my head. Maybe I need to listen more closely. Giving it a 4 in anticipation of getting into it more over time.

Can’t put my finger on who it reminds me of but I like it

Rock independiente. Muy bueno.

Fun, rocking British indie.

honestly super surprised by this album, 3 or 4 saves and overall a great listen

pretty fun listen

This felt much more mature than I Should CoCo. More musical. I frikkin' LOVE "Late In The Day"

Really good music. Somehow I hadn’t heard them before, but will listen to their other albums.

The band name throws me off, I was surprised by their sound.

Yuooooooooooooooooopppp Final Thoughts: 4/5

Hit and miss, but there's some surprisingly catchy rock in here.

I was quite surprised by it. Nothing special but I had a good time.

Ik ben er wel fan van, goed om op de achtergrond op te leggen tijdens het werken.

Fun album to listen to :)

Stevig album met goeie gitaarriffs. 'Sun hits the sky' is het bekendste nummer. Af en toe een psychedelisch orgeltje erin. Geen fan van de vele fade-outs. luie manier om een song te eindigen.

Just classic rock, pretty good to listen to in the background (with maybe the exception of a few exotic fragments).

We knew a song.

Pegada meio oasis

Leuke band, leuk album.

Great album

Enjoyable album. More tracks I recognised than I thought I would, good guitars and blends of instruments arranged very nicely. Very good album.

Viele Hits. Vielleicht höre ich bald mal wieder rein. Auf jeden Fall fette 4,4 Punkte!

Me ha sorprendido. Más melódico de lo que esperaba.

Preferred the other one but still good

Another good album (and surprised that I haven't heard the group before). And, it's a different sound than their first album.

Better than I expected. Listened to it twice

I wasn't sure what to expect. I had heard of Supergrass, but not sure if I've heard their music before. This was really good though. High energy, great production.

I like this... this might be a new band discovery!

Love me some brit-pop. A bit on the harder side of brit-pop but not a bad thing.

Great album. Didn't love it as much as their previous one but this one was pretty killer

Well, this was a lot of fun. Never heard of these guys, but glad I have now.

I really liked this album. It had some strange mix of folk/punk sounds. Would definitely buy this album.

I love this album! just the kind of rock I like

Only three songs in and I am already loving this album. Super catchy, great energy, just really fun.

Surprisingly good and upbeat rock album which doesnt have any bad songs but also too little great songs to deserve a 5

Classic Britpop from happier times. Not quite Oasis v Blur but a good choice nonetheless

This is some absolutely first-rate indie rock. That's it. That's all I can come up with at the moment. This is certainly worth a revisit, but I just like it in a simple way, especially after a bunch of projects I didn't dig in the same way. The melodies are sticky and the songs fly by.

Strong 4. Great Rock that just rips emotions out of you, excitement and longing alike. Second half is better. Standout Tracks: Late In The Day, Sun Hits The Sky, Going Out, It’s Not Me, Cheapskate, You Can See Me, Hollow Little Reign

Better than I expected. Based on the cover, I thought it would be a kind of folk-punky affair, but it has some really interesting songs. On the higher side of 4.

Ok, not bad. Not memorable either.

The opening track was so catchy and so promising, but for some reason I quickly lost interest and couldn’t regain it. It has a good sound that checks my boxes but I’m not compelled to dive deeper. My history informs me that I gave their earlier album 4/5, so that was either a better album or I was in a better space. Today, this merits a respectable 3/5… a disappointment though. What say you?

This album is very good and very forgettable at the same time. It is evident why it is on the list, as the music is solid, the writing is interesting, and they have solid presence. However, it doesn't stand out. I listened to it twice and I can't remember most of it. Also, the 4th wall admission of being in it for the money, has been done so much better by many others.

Great energy and a good album. Not sure why I haven't heard more of them. I recall watching the clip for Pumping On The Stereo on Rage in the wee hours and liking the song but never diving deeper, and I regret that now.

Energetic rock pop with a maximalist ska-esque sound. Excellent chord progressions! Not a ton of substance in my opinion but well executed and still a fun listen. Also Spotify users: search for the remastered edition, sounds wayyy better.

Loved the first disc, second one was just okay

Britslop

Bäst är In it for the money, Rickard III, Sun hits the sky, Cheapskate

Don't know too much about Supergrass outside their big singles. Seems that they got overshadowed by the other big Britpop acts around this time. Bit of a shame really, as I kinda dig what they bring to the table. Loses steam a bit near the end, but started somewhat fresh.

Another 3. Not the greatest, not the worst. 3/5

A decent britpop album that instead of approaching the sound of neo-psychedelia, focus more on power pop, and thus the songs have more straight-forward and simpler sound and less atmosphere. The album starts with three very fun songs. "In it for the Money" starts slowly and building up until the explosive and catchy chorus comes in, "Richard III" sounds very chunky, with energy and fun; and "Tonight" has a very upbeat sound with some trumpets adding a lot of charm. Then comes "Late in the Day", and I think it is from this point the album loses all the steam it created, as most of the following songs are either slow and uninteresting or not as fun or memorable as the previous tracks, with maybe "Sun Hits the Sky" and "Cheapskate" being the closest to return the initial energy, but still applies what I said to them. So overall, a good britpop and power pop album, that might be a bit forgettable, but not a boring experience.

I'm in it for the money. Not this album

Better than the last supergrass album but still not great. At best it was decent alt rock.

Fun listen. Not sure I'd go back but even throughout. High 3/5.

Decent Britpoprock. The vocals were a little weak for my taste.

Huh. After already hearing their first album, I was not looking forward to this. Is there an award for 'most improved in britpop'? They definitely matured from the (IMHO) juvenile first album to this one. Interesting arrangements, and it's not 100% britpop-y. There's even a hint of Spiritualized in there (especially the penultimate track). Not too shabby.

Пам'ятаю десь на перших курсах універа я слухав супеграсс, але чомусь переважно їхній альбом Road to Rouen ну і дебютний трохи. А цей пройшов повз. Загалом типова британська (бритпоп?) музика тих часів. 1997 взагалі був дуже потужним на британські релізи, які вже стали культовими (типу be here now або urban hymns) і In It For The Money напевно трохи загубився серед них. Але альбом непоганий. Майже панковий по стандартам бритпопа.

Missed this one at the time for some reason but now that I've heard it twice I wouldn't say I missed it, tbh.

I’ve heard of Supergrass but couldn’t name a song of theirs. I have given a couple of their later albums a listen recently as well. I think this (and the other albums I’ve heard) are pretty good. Reminds me of Oasis but slightly more experimental and less catchy. I’d listen a couple more times to see what sticks. 3.5/5, rounding down.

Fabulous bass sound. Vocals a bit like a marriage of the Flaming Lips and Oasis. Guitar playing is a 70's throwback but mostly without the solos. It's fairly dense in its obvious influences and there's some value in that. It's nice that there's some pretty bog-standard 60's/70's style rock music being produced in the 90's. It's competent and pleasant. Maybe they kicked off this revival? I'd see a throughline at least back to the Stone Roses, though. One the other hand, is it essential? I don't think so. I've been a rock fan for 25 years or so, have heard of Supergrass at least a hundred times and, having now listened to them, don't feel like my life was the poorer for it. Don't get it twisted: I'm certainly not worse off for having listened to this. It's not the fucking Beatles, though. Or The Cure -- who I really don't like, but who I think were really important (they helped found a genre I dislike!). Normally, I'd chalk this up to Dimery's being British and having a bit of unconscious bias (we all do), but I think this is a sufficiently revered band that it's not just a him problem. My thing is that, six years later, Sam Roberts would release his first LP and I think it's a better record than this. I compare them because it's a similarly throwback style of rock music. His first two long players -- 2003's We Were Born In A Flame and 2006's Chemical City -- are essential to the early millennial music scene in Canada and I think they merit more attention than they got. Instead, I'm listening to this, which is so dense with influences from other, bigger bands, that the surface is entirely smooth and I slid right off. But I will reiterate: the bass sound is really great. 3/5, Supergrass. I did not need to hear you before I died (though I'm happy to have finally taken a listen). The best thing about this record is it sent me back to listen to early Sam Roberts. O Canada!

Lots of pretty good? Do you like Smashing Pumpkins but wish they sounded ever so slightly happier? This could be the record for you

No private session used for Spotify. I like Supergrass, fun, upbeat, rock songs. This album is all that and more.

It was solid and not boring, but not as good as the previous entry from this band.

This album falls squarely into the joke about this list; maybe a quarter of it is above average, acceptable, but not memorable British Indie rock. This is exactly that. 2.5.

Ooh saucy title, lads! This is some fun yet forgettable Britpop. Top tracks: "In It for the Money," "You Can See Me"

5/10… britpop / indie rock / *1997

Tiene un buen nivel de brit-pop. No son Blur pero se pueden escuchar.

Like the Supergrass song I like; it's alright. Favorite Track - Sun Hits the Sky Least Favorite Track - Going Out ⭐️⭐️⭐️

5.5/10

Almost fits my Stroking Arctic Monkey Arcade Killers on Fire model. Not sure. Perhaps just a tad more interesting and engaging than most of that. An era that passed me by.

Jájá, bara allt í lagi.

I like it okay. It gets a little samey after a while but not bad.

Im a big 90s rock guy and never listened to these guys before. They're pretty good!

The album kicks off with grungier Hole vibes, but once it gets to "G-Song," it shifts to a sound that I can only describe as a mix of The Rolling Stones and a bunch of English rock bands from the early 2000's (though I suppose the latter were likely inspired by Supergrass).

This was fun and what I expected

Decent album. Fun.

Not their best effort, but a lot of fun through and through. It's a band finding their mark on their second album, and it shows some promises. It's a bit far fetched to call that an essential album, but it's really fun, and it's a solid 3.5/5 This is indeed far better britpop than anything the Verve shat out. (had the Northern Soul album yesterday, still have a bad aftertaste.)

Сара 3 Марко 4

This record was pretty good. It started strong and was consistent until the last 2 tracks. Favourite Track(s): In It for the Money, G-Song Least Favourite Track(s): Hollow Little Reign, Sometimes I Make You Sad

3.5/10

Second generic Brit pop/rock band in a row. Same as before: it’s not bad, just not a whole lot that sticks with you. Likes: G Song; Cheapskate; You Can See Me

I genuinely couldn't remember a single song once it was over

Way too long. Some good stuff tho.

It's alright. Some pretty good tracks there.

Just what this list needs...more britpop taking up real estate. It doesn't suck, but do you really need to hear this before you die?

Listenable.

Very listenable, feels quite poppy still but the songs are well layered and the mix of slower and faster songs means the album passes through with a good pace rather than becoming boring

Solidan brit pop album

More decent that i remembered but not enough standout tracks for me. Richard III is fantastic. Two Supergrass albums on this list is a little excessive though. 7/10 again but going 3

Hard rock

Feels like early 70’s rock

This surprised me (not that it was amazing). Don’t expect much but I actually liked it more than those expectations.

Not bad. Better than I was expecting.

I liked the first Supergrass album a lot and played it to death. Its charms were instant. In It For The Money was a different proposition altogether. A grower by all accounts that needed time to bed in. Unfortunately, by ’97 Britpop was losing its lustre, and I wasn’t prepared to give it any time at all. Listening now and reading a little about it - NME placed In It For The Money at number 57 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever - I’m still not blown away. Seriously, what were NME thinking? 6/10

Fairly solid actually. Didn’t mind it!

Much better than I expected - although never heard of them before. I have been going through a shitty 7-8 album run of crappy albums; this at least was fair. +1 point for fun cover art

OK poppy BritPop.

Only two Supergrass albums out of 1001, and I get both of them within a few days of one another. Life is funny like that.

Relatively enjoyed this album but can't say that I will remember it. Its rock and it does the job.

Wasn't utterly enthralled but I can appreciate the grunge

It's... Fine. Britpop is clearly not my thing.

Pretty cool, last song was a stinker

They have always been fun!

i juged based on album cover that this would be a bluegrassyish album. first song suprised the hell out of me decent rock album 3/5

I think I'd probably give another star if his voice weren't so similar to Billy Corgan

Sounded like a 70's band transplanted into the 90's. They went through the studio storerooms and found all kinds of old stuff and decided to make it their own. Theremins. All kinda good stuff here. But... No hooks. Nothing is bringing me back.

Pretty good, but nothing stood out to me

Enjoyed G- Song and You Can See Me.

I liked the intro a lot, but nothing crazy

Very average, but nothing extremely wrong with it.

Meh. Felt kind of like generic mid to late 90s brit pop.

Just like their previous release (I Should Coco), In It For The Money is very much rooted in the Britpop phase of UK music. It's fine – good, even – but ultimately kind of anonymous in the grand scheme of things. Supergrass adds plenty of little musical elements to try and make some individual tracks stand out, like the sudden stop at the end of the title track, the brass lines in Tonight and Going Out, the gloopy synths and (perplexingly) high strings underlying the main melody in It's Not Me, some absolutely wack Zappa/Byrne nonsense coupled with a vaguely out-of-tune Spanish guitar solo in Sometimes I Make You Sad. I guess it's kind of creative, but when compared to other 1997 giants (OK Computer and Around The Fur, I'm looking at you), it just doesn't hold up. The messy production can also get distracting. The guitar sound in Richard III is very full and lush. One of the better tracks for sure. The following track, Tonight, left me a little surprised. Supergrass playing the 70s-esque classic rock part? Drizzle a few trumpet lines in there? Unfortunately, elements of catchiness are largely absent here, but the stylistic choices absolutely take the cake. G-Song makes for a huge standout, though, and I'm stunned it has so few streams (even by Supergrass standards). That riff, those raging guitar tones, all the tonal switch-ups... you're getting a ton of content for the price of one song. Then we get to Sun Hits The Sky, which is significantly weaker, aside from the great little contributions by the bass and hand percussion. The singing could not be more generic for its time, though. (Which is a problem with Supergrass's music as a whole.) From Going Out onward, the songs are pretty hit-or-miss, but before that point everything is rock-solid. 3/5 Key tracks: Richard III, G Song, It's Not Me

Smashing pumpkins meets the Beatles, I guess? Not bad, has that warm, full stadium sound. Just a bit too out there for me.

Ok aber nicht aufregend

Chouette découverte rock

It was fun to listen to this again, some great songs on here

Nice bit of nostalgia, wouldn't revisit but was enjoyable

Enjoyed this though I felt like it tailed off towards the end of the album. Not an album I'll revisit again, but it was nice to come back to it after a 25 year absence

Ok 3/5

Nothing memorable, but nice

Enjoyed the first few songs, then it faded a bit for the rest Standout songs: In it for the money Richard III

Good Brotpop... I've heard better and worse... 3.5 starts

I'm not sure if it was the album cover or just them getting lost in the (literally) five hundred albums between their debut album and this one, but it wasn't until I saw the cover for their earlier "I Should Coco" that I realized I'd heard of them, and was actually impressed with them. Unfortunately, this album isn't as fun or catchy or infectious as "I Should Coco", which is a bit of a disappointment. I liked "Richard III" (not so much the blah video), wanted to like "Late in the day" (in part because the video captured their earlier album's vibe, but the song just kind of dragged on; the same with "Going out"), enjoyed "G-song", and "You can see me" (I also liked it that they did weird recording stuff with a guitar and a cymbal and the band members grunting in "Sometimes I make you sad" to get the sounds). They didn't exactly dial this one in--I don't think they're really just in it for the money, and it's a solid album overall--but I guess the novelty or spirit or something just didn't work for me the same way their first album did. Thankfully, there isn't a third Supergrass album in this collection, so I don't expect to go through this confusion yet again....

There's a whiny tone to the lead singer's voice that's bumming me out. What happened in the 90s that made so many guys sing like whiny babies? Regardless, there are moments of great resonating sound but the songwriting, and the singing, aren't working for me.

Surely this is some blokes favorite album but it’s some pretty average britpop to me! Absolutely passable and enjoyable, just nothing to write home about. That’s 5 or 6 albums in a row with nothing to write home about sadly.

90s Brit-Pop but done really well. It's hard not to just hear them as a Beatles clone, but they are a very good Beatles clone.

Hits and misses here for me

Do you enjoy Revolver/Sgt Pepper era Beatles and also Pablo Honey era Radiohead? Then you might find this listenable like I did. Otherwise I could see this getting boring. But, like, it's neat, I didn't dislike it.

I liked this one.

I appreciate the honesty.

★★★½

Did not finish. Not that it's not good. It is. But after listening to most (including the most streamed songs), I could tell that it's good, but not great. If I paid money for the album, I wouldn't be disappointed. But that doesn't make it a 4 or 5 star album. It's good rock. But still 3 stars. No shame in that. That still makes it better than 90-95% of the albums ever made.

What the hell man, Richard III ends right when it starts sounding cool as hell. I hated Coco, I remember intently listening and being frustratingly bored, but listening so far may make me give it a second listen. The playing certainly feels a lot more varied and fun to listen to.

More generic Britpop - again no idea why this is on the list. I quite enjoyed it though, catchier tunes than the previous Supergrass album I had a few months ago.

But of a surprise mostly enjoyed this one

Inoffensive and unassuming. But pleasant. 6/10

Typical late '90s alt-rock. Loud guitars, so-so singing. Nothing memorable.

Divertido, mas não tão notável, parece musica que tocaria em seriado da nickelodeon

Never heard of these guys despite Spotify praising this to be one of the most important band of the 90s!? Hmmm. Either way, this is pretty decent actually, quite enjoyed it, 3 stars quite easily

Decent Britpop album. There’s some variety in the music and they seem to be a creative bunch. Dents resonate too much with me, but compared to most Britpop I could happily listen to this again.

Decent album.

Huge improvement from their album "I Should Coco" which I've listened to previously. The song "Tonight" is great and "Going Out" is also a fun song. 6/10 album.

3.0 The album cover confused me into thinking they were a band from 1968 at a brief glance. I was quite confused to initially hear a grungier sound. Nothing really pulled me in on a single listen, but I will give it another go at some point.

It’s ok

unexciting Britpop

This was fine, of their time, kinda fun

69/100. A really well produced pop record that knows how to have fun without sounding sloppy. It works well as a follow up to their debut, showing a bit more confidence and control while keeping that sense of energy intact.

I like this album. Really good songs.

It’s fine. I heard Dan Hernandez is a fucking ice agent. Not surprised but I am disgusted.

I had absolutely no idea who Supergrass was going into this record, I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s chaotic punk-tinged pop-rock, like a mixture of the smashing pumpkins, blur, and jet. There’s a certain snotty energy to this album that feels very British, but that’s weirdly a positive. Like every British band, if you look hard enough, you can find Beatles influences peppered throughout. The song “Going Out” is, I think, the most egregious example of that influence found on this album. Man that last song, “Sometimes I Make You Sad” is weird as hell though. I felt so unsettled by it I had to google it, turns out the only real percussion is a cymbal, the rest of the “drums” are just recorded grunts of the band members. That weird mandolin sounding guitar solo was just recorded at half speed on a normal guitar then sped up for the song. Weird, kinda fun experimental stuff. I’m not particularly thankful that only one song on the album was that odd though. I think the biggest thing this album suffers from is an overarching sameness felt throughout most of the songs. I’m on the fence between 3 and 3.5, but I think this one gets 3*.

I thought this was a fun album. I don't have a whole lot to say about it. It sounds like the kind of music that fictional bands in tv shows/movies play, but in basically the best way a band can sound like that.

Smashing pumpkins influence maybe??

Pretty good, but super long. This grass could use a cut

It was ok

OK Listen

Great Songs: Tonight Good Songs: In It For The Money, Richard III, G-Song, Sun Hits the Sky, Going Out, It's Not Me, Cheapskate, Hollow Little Reign Mid Songs: Late in the Day, You Can See Me, Sometimes I Make You Sad Bad Songs:

Every job.

It’s ok, a bit forgettable though.

I forgot how varied there sound was/not the typical Britpop of the time (and I was not of the Britpop movement). The short song lengths let you pack a lot in but maybe a few too many in? It could have done with a bit more editing.

Haven’t heard this band before. It was a fun listen, but nothing spectacular really stood out for me. I’d probably give it another listen sometime. Overall it was a pretty consistent album from beginning to end.

interesting listen

This one landed better for me than a lot of Britpop I’ve encountered along the way. The band has real energy, the songs are well played, and there’s a looseness and willingness to get a little weird that helps it stand out from the more self-satisfied or overly mannered corners of the genre. There’s craft here, and moments where the psychedelic turns and dynamic shifts keep things interesting. It feels like a band enjoying itself and stretching just enough to avoid feeling formulaic. Musically, it’s solid and often engaging, and I can hear why this record has held up better than many of its peers. At the same time, it doesn’t quite stick with me. Nothing here feels like it demands a return visit, even if the experience itself is enjoyable. This is a record I’m glad to have heard and glad to know, but not one I feel compelled to live with. A high three feels right. Better than expected, better than most Britpop of the era, but stopping short of something that becomes part of my regular listening life.

3 out of 5. Almost a 2, this to me is a largely forgettable album.

Supergrass telling it like it is

This is good. A lot better than I was expecting, honestly. 7/10

Cracking britpop. Full sounding rock album with loads of 60's and 70's inspiration.

Not bad x

Not bad! There’s interesting things happening in these songs with some decent chord changes. It’s a good pop rock album and it makes me want to listen to their other albums!

It’s ok, none of the songs stood out

In It For The Money - 3.5/5 Richard III - 3.5/5 Tonight - 4/5 Late In The Day - 3/5 G-Song - 4/5 Sun Hits The Sky - 3.5/5 Going Out - 3/5 It's Not Me - 3/5 Cheapskate - 3.5/5 You Can See Me - 4/5 Hollow Little Reign - 3.5/5 Sometimes I Make You Sad - 5/5 Caught By The Fuzz - 4/5 Sitting Up Straight - 4/5 Melanie Davis - 3.5/5 Odd? - 4.5/5 Wait For The Sun - 3.5/5 Nothing More's Gonna Get In My Way - 3.5/5 Sex! - 2/5 20 Foot Halo - 3/5 Je Suis Votre Papa Sucre - 2/5

Jrg liktr det var sånn punky britpop typ greier veldig tidlig oasis definitly maybe greier veldig gøy var noen catchy gøyr sanger en del bangers men iblant litt kjedelig britpop overall ganske solid album 3/5

It was alright.

I had thought that supergrass may have been done a bit dirty during the britpop wave that they came along during because they weren’t as marketable or keen tabloid fodder like blur or oasis were. Listening to this though just suggested that they genuinely didn’t have the same range of killer tracks to grab the attention with. None of it was particularly bad, but sounded a little bit like a slightly more polished pub band.

Not bad. I enjoyed listening to this even though it's super poppy.

Nada fuera de lo normal

def in it for the money

Decent britpop that has a couple earworms but overall not that spectacular.

More Coco than the last one.

I didn't hate this by any means, but I also don't remember any specifics? Just sort of, oh, yeah, 90s Brit-Pop, OK, head bob, is this that same song? No? Okay. Head bob.

Certainly better than the other album but you have 1001 albums to listen to before you die and Supergrass gets 2? Piss off. 3/5.

It was fine nothing groundbreaking

It’s just good clean fun

Hey - I mostly liked most of it!

A good enough bit of Britpop I'd somehow missed

Normal bien

Alright, dated now. Liked them when they came out

Too heavy for me

I enjoyed this but similar to when I listened to this band before, something just doesn't quite click with me.

Fairly bland

This is a mixed experience. It's difficult to describe with how I'm jamming one minute to suddenly not feeling it at all...

Fun pop

It was ok. It felt like pretty generic brit pop. it didn't really grab me but it didn't offend my ears either

While I've never been huge on Britpop, this felt less like the traditional, repetitive, fuzz-rock styled music I'd expect out of that genre tag and more like just some cool alternative rock made by British people. It's genuinely quite varied, and the melodies don't make me want to turn it off immediately. It clearly takes more from the sounds of British punk and alternative, which is what made this more bearable than usual. Songs like 'Richard III', 'G-Song', and especially 'You Can See Me' had these genuinely great progressions and layering. Not my favorite song ever or anything, but I got through it feeling relatively good!

Fun indie album, too long for me to fully listen to

This one surprised me it was like punk adjacent. Good stuff.

This was good, but not great.

It was alright.

I'm so conflicted by this listen. The first half is packed with tight, fun, and rowdy tunes. It’s a great sound. Then, the album just... keeps... going. As it stands, it’s a great EP followed by a bloated sequel. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Richard III - Late In The Day - Sun Hits The Sky

They’ve done better stuff but still decent

*1997 *Let’s Go Coco has really grown on me since first listening on here (wish there was an update or edit option…) but this album isn’t quite as catchy. I listened several times, and I can’t remember a single song afterward. It’s an enjoyable enough listen, but I just kind of zone out after the first track. RATING - 6/10

Decent but that’s it

I liked this more than I thought I would. There’s no standout song here, but the whole thing is not bad.

It’s so much better than the first album, but it still is not great. The odd highlight here and there, dotted among filler. “Cheapskate” is their best song. A short burst of poppy energy. It really is a great track. The final few tracks simply can’t live up to that standard.

Great album, fast paced and catchy songs. Not my favourite band of the whole britpop era, but theyre really good regardless. Gaz Coombes is remarkably underrated as an artist. There's a nod to the Mothers of the Invention in the album title as well which I appreciate.

Sun hits the sky is such a belter

I guess it's alright?
