Reviews (page 4 of 7)

A nice old-style country/light rock. Enjoyable.

Forgot to log all these I guess! Fun music, nothing super memorable to me though…

Liked this more than i thought i would! Hot burrito tracks are great. Shoutout the guy who made these suits (can’t remember but i stayed at porter wagners house in nashville)

not my type

Good music, I enjoyed it. Too depressed to write anything more.

I always dig a good country rock album! I just think their peers were better. Not bad, but not great, sits comfortably in the middle. Wouldnt mind giving more of their stuff a listen though.

Pretty good country rock. Very Grateful Deadish. That last song was not very good though so that bumps it down a star

I’m quite satisfied with today’s pick. This record does something that is difficult which is make me enjoy a country record. They’re not the first of their kind (Kacey Musgraves) but there’s something that makes this better. It’s probably the outer influences acting upon the twangy base of the sauce. Not every song hits, but the ones that do make a good impression. Welcome back to Houston, Phil (6/10, 3/5 on this scale)

Yeah these Burritos give me a bit of reflux 🤤

Better than I expected. It's not my style of music--I am not a twangy country girl! There wasn't a lot of variety in the songs and it was a little irritating at times. Completely fine for background music in the right setting, though I am not sure what that setting would be. I'll give it an extremely generous 3 stars, with bonus points for the stupid band name and ridiculous cover art.

Do Right Woman // My Uncle //

It's country, but it's at least on the more listenable / accessible side of country. I prefer the songs that lean more away from it, but still, generally it's quite an easy listen. There's some nice heartfelt ballads in here which I liked (like Hot Burrito #1).

Gram Parsons carries on the psychedelic alt-country vibe from his one Byrds album... Some of it is kinda dope, some of it is more like traditional country, a real mixed bag. But their cover of "Do Right Woman" is pretty special.

3.5 rounded down for making me hear the lyrics of Hot Burrito #1 at nine in the morning 😭

3.5/5. Liked it more than I expected. Draft dodging by moving to Vancouver, hell yeah.

Kinda psychedelic country? Very cool

There were a few genuinely good songs in here. Fave song: Hot Burrito #1

Enhanced country music. Its aight. Favourite Song: Hot Burrito #2

Less than 3…more than 2.5? Idk 2.75b? It’s not my favorite type of music but it’s done well and honestly I really like 3 or 4 songs here. Also one of the greatest band names of all time, without question.

Pleasant and inoffensive. Unlike yer ma.

OMG ITS JUST THE BYRDS EXCEPT NOW THEYRE BURRITOS

Better than Coldplay

I know this is supposed to be a classic but hard to get into after just one listen

Hard not to enjoy this on a sunny morning. Nice harmonies, nostalgic west coast vibe. 3 and a half.

I found it a bit one-note, but some really well-written songs.

A smooth dusty vibe, but pretty same-y by the halfway point. Felt like cosmic country played from inside a lava lamp. Nice to visit, maybe not a regular stop on the trail.

I get the historical significance (Hillman and Parsons leave the Byrds to form one of the first country-rock bands, etc.), but this strays way too far into the country side. It’s not bad at all, but for classic country, I prefer other artists and albums. And I definitely prefer the Gram Parsons solo albums after this, too. Hopefully we see one of those on the list. Not bad at all, but not great either.

Great band name, very generic music.

Always heard songs from this band, but never gave the album a listen. Christine's Tune opens the album up with some solid af Americana, really digging it. ooo the slide guitar at the end. Sin City good slower tune. Do Right Woman Americana love song. Dark End Of The Street digging the piano in the intro. My Uncle this song isn't about my uncle. Wheels was nice. Juanita had the same vibes as Do Right Woman. Hot Burrito #1/2 are the songs I had listened to before, good jams. Do You Know How It Feels was alright. Hippie Boy has some soulful church organ up front, nice one.

Band name was a great start. Never heard of them. As I started listening I wondered why I need to listen to this before I die. The book probably has a good explanation. With that said, this album grew on me. Good background album to have on while cleaning, cooking, working in the yard, or chilling on the porch in the spring or summer with your drink or smoke of choice.

A fun little country record. Some enjoyable vocals and like the final track although I probably would have liked this more if it was just a straight psych album

This is real solid country, the kind of country I can fuck with. It helps that there's a nice undercurrent of psych that elevates it beyond pure Americana into something entirely else.

Must have hit this on the perfect day/time because I really had fun listening. 4/5

Solid country rock, it's solid

Interesting to see some country guys with some political views but not fond of the genre at all. A few songs that got kind of grunge I did appreciate.

insane band name hello

Correcto

That was quite entertaining - it doesn't stand the test of time very well though.

From an overall enjoyment POV, it was boring for me. But I did like the soundscape and mixing was pretty impressive for the time period.

What a little gem of an album.

Fun country rock album with some unique influences, definitely would listen again but did not knock my socks off

This was alright. Very country with shades of psychedelic rock thrown in to keep things interesting. Favorite songs were Christine’s Tune, My Uncle, and Hot Burrito #2.

I’m not a big country fan, but the songs are well written. Low 3/5

kind of whatever country music but i like their band name a lot so im forcing myself to like this

not really my thing but good for what it is. last song was annoying as hell

Synes det går lige nok country i den et par gange, men ellers udmærket

Har på fornemmelsen at det ville have været en 4er hvis jeg havde lyttet mere til teksterne

It was alright. I guess I was expecting more. Still, I didn't hate it.

Enjoyable enough. 3/5 Album 65/1001

I’m not an Americana kind of guy and I quite liked this, so it must be a strong example of the genre. The band are passionate and the singing sounds genuine and heartfelt. Yeeehaw.

Just fine.

Yee-haw

This was a decent album, but nothing too exciting either. The Flying Burrito Brothers were a country rock band formed by Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman after they left The Byrds. By today’s standards, it sounds like classic traditional country, but when it came out, it was definitely ahead of its time. While this album was influential to a lot of bands that followed in the country rock genre, it’s one of those records where you probably had to be there at the time, fully immersed in the culture, to truly appreciate it.

This album is on my list of ones to buy but now I have listened to it I am not sure. Perhaps my expectations were too high - I thought it would be country tinged singer songwriting style but it is a bit too much country for me. Definitely great but perhaps not for me.

Wild tripadelic name for a band that seems so normal now. Perhaps then they weren’t? They strike me as peers of the band, Graham Nash, and others of the era. Smooth grooves and pleasant Melodie’s.

Unexpectedly enjoyable.

Pretty good country rock album really. No real complaints.

Still too country for me but approaching the sweet spot of country-ish.

Not for me.

I wish I had as much fun listening to this as I did saying their name. I think the Dead did late-60s hippie-country music better.

Yeah, I can see its influence on music I don’t really care for. It was clever in spots.

This is pretty OK. I can see their influence on subsequent bands. Talented enough, but there's nothing that grabs me here. 3.5* just for competence and influence.

Three stars for killer pedal steel. I could take or leave this album though. Some of the later stuff is a touch better. Just not my taste I guess. If you want to hear Sneaky Pete really shine, check out Zappa's It Just Might Be a One Shot Deal. One of my all time favourite solo's. Zappa train wrecks it at the end as expected, but man, what a vibe.

Country rock. Blah.

на любителя.

Decent

Very blah.

The draft-dodging ditty "My Uncle" is a fun historical artifact, and the vibe is generally fun folky-country. But overall unexceptional.

Okay. Not my vibes but ok.

Kinda reminded me of the Blues Brothers. “We got both kinds! Country *and* Western!”

6.5/10

Decent.

Not bad, never heard of the group, and see on wiki they've morphed over the years but are still active. I may check out some of their stuff. Although having grown up on country music I tend to avoid it now, it's nice to a steel guitar once in awhile.

Not what I expected regarding the country rock theme. I wish it drifted just a bit more in the rock lane.

This has some kooky songs. The last one about the boy and the box…

Some psychedelic country music. Nothing was safe from the hippies in the 60s huh

I really wanted to like being both a country and rock music fan. However, nothing really drew me in as a listener. It was good, just not very eventful and a bit mundane at times. Not sure if I was expecting more of a Neil Young or CCR kind of vibe? But I found this a bit boring. Will give it another listen to see if my opinion changes.

It’s okay

Good stuff, but I don't know why I expected a warmer touch of psychedelia.

It's a warm and charming album, but I can't explain why I'm finding it here. It's still far away from the competition of the 60s and overall country music.

Odd Polymath

This is some alright music. Yes, very much so.

This group was totally new to me. Their sound has a really good base with country and then they add other things on top. It's not something I would listen to every day but I can certainly appreciate how well put together and mixed the songs are. It was a fun experience listening through the album.

A nice ballad album. Not a bad deal. I imagine it'd be a fun album to play around a campfire in the Summer. Favorite Track: "Hippie Boy".

its like half pretty normal but pleasant country stuff and half cool interesting and different tracks, strange album but cool music

Good harmonies

Feel both smart and dumb for listening to this and my first thought was 'this sounds like the byrds.' Had no idea they were basically the same band. This kind of 'california country' doesn't really register with me. Feels sun-dried and acid-washed, missing the sense of place and culture that most country draws from. That said, its not unpleasant. Like Burrito Brothers 2 especially.

I'd be very happy to hear these songs again, and I might even give this more spins, but there aren't any songs on here I absolutely need to hear again. Wheels stands out - I really do like country guitar - the slides, double stops, that thin tele sound, especially on the low notes. Dark End of the Street is nice. #2 sounds like a Dan tune.

Not really my cup of tea for Country Rock - but I get why people wanna talk about it...

Wheels & Hot Burritos really get me going.

3/11, 27%

This is fun and novelty and the name is cute, but it’s not my particular tempo. Can see it growing on me but it doesn’t have the immediate grip that, say, Waylon Jennings on Honky Tonk Heroes has. Not at all what I’ve lived my life expecting the Flying Burrito Brothers to sound like, might I add.

It was a bit of slog to go straight from yesterday’s 2 hour country/bluegrass epic into another country album. This kept my attention better (maybe due to its shorter runtime) but think the introduction of some tasteful fuzzy guitars contributed to overall bluesy feel that I found very pleasing to the ear. The lyrics and the themes within are simple and probably the biggest drawback for me. However the performances themselves are really good and mostly make up for it and contribute to the musicality of the album. Overall, a pleasing listen.

Wasn't expecting old country. Hot burrito #1 is great

Nice Country Album

Meh, good for camping. Otherwise, each song is same same but different.

I like this

I'd heard Sin City before but overall this album didn't really do much for me and was more straight-up country than rock which is more in my wheelhouse.. I'll give it a three reluctantly but hope either Gram's work with The Byrds or his solo stuff is better than this.

Okaish a bit gloomy and to being what is expected of Country Rock.

It had potential, but it’s weak

When the instrumentation is invited to shine through, this becomes a very respectable country record. More often than not, however, it stays subdued in the background, with cliché country lyrics and vocals taking centre stage. For an apparent six-piece (at least from the front cover), this all seems a bit too simple. I can’t see how this would be discussed as truly great alongside the vast swathes of country music available. Maybe that’s because it’s now at our fingertips. If you just had this record and nothing much else, you’d of course grow to love it. But now, why listen to this save for a possible nostalgic value (one I don’t have)? It’s another case of thinking ‘that was a nice album’, and moving on to the next without looking back. Despite obvious bonus points for the name.

Didn’t listen all the way through, it just wasn’t my style. Some good story telling though.

Early and influential country/rock

⭐⭐⭐ — — 2[.7] of 5 stars. A pretty standard run-of-the-mill folk/country. I can see the bands that drew influences from this album, mainly the Eagles. But in my opinion, this album really didn't do all that much for me. The guitar work and instruments seem pretty interesting at some points, but, there isn't a lot of variation from track to track. The guitar on that first track was DEFINITELY on cigarettes, though. Loved the feel on "Hot Burrito No. 1," and the story along with the organ/piano duo on "Hippie Boy," but other than that, the rest of the album just felt the same. Influential? maybe, but, just not something I'd want to give a re-listen. Favourites: Sin City, Hot Burrito No. 1⭐ (goofy ahh name), Hippie Boy. Dislikes: Christine's Tune.

rating - 3/5 I changed my mind. > Mr. Burrito..... i dont think i could give this a re-listen. i hate the first song, his singing is very annoying. i dont hate the late 60s-70s country-esque sound tho. reminds me of my main men the eagles 🔥. 2nd track is heavy eagles vibes imo "do right woman" creeps me out for some reason. "dark end of the street" little intro was cute, until he opened his mouth im sorry this guys voice doesnt match the sound. the lyrics were cute, gave me the notebook (movie) vibes. i like the story on "my uncle". HOT BURRITO #1. WHAT KINDA NAME... and its not even a bad song. "hippie boy" BOY SHUT UP. idk this album wasn't allat. soz Mr. Burrito and co. > thumbs up: dark end of the street, hot burrito #1😭😭😭

pleasant but a bit too country for me

No muy mi estilo la verdad, aunque puedo entender porque esta en la lista Rating:6.0 Canción Favorita: Dark End of the Street

Good album if you like the country rock genre. Interesting that this band spun off from the Byrds. Gene Clark (also of the Byrds) also pursued a country rock direction after leaving the band. Makes me wonder how they decided to pursue a Beatlesque sound when the Byrds first came out (noting that you could see were things were headed as there were country themed songs on the Younger Than Yesterday album). Solid musicianship and song craft.

The Flying Burrito Brothers?!? The Gilded Palace of Sin?!? Based on the name of the band and album alone, I'm going to start this off giving them 5 stars and deduct as I listen, if necessary. Amazing names No specific point reduction notes, but still pretty good. 3.75

More Country than rock but it was fine overall.

They are more old-school country than I remember. I not an old-school country fan however. But just because it’s not for me doesn’t mean it’s bad. But if you don’t like this genre I’d give a pass.

Forgettable but not unlistenable Pretty cool though how a band with roughly half as many monthly listeners as Kai Cenat mad it onto this list

So late sixties!

Country is often where I struggle on this list. But this one was OK. If Gram is OK with Keef the he's OK with me.

It's a really sweet album. I don't listen to a lot of country but this was really nice. Fantastic name and "My Uncle" is my favourite track by far. I'd give it a 3.5.

These are the albums I am here for. Always heard of Gram Paraon’s influence on the “country honk” side of the Rolling Stones but has never given a good listen. Really enjoyed this one. 3.75

Pleasant, easy-going country rock. The sweet, lovelorn soul of “Hot Burrito #1” was a surprising change of pace. It’s a good song and I like the way his voice breaks a little as he sings but I’m mystified as to why they would ever call the song “Hot Burrito #1.” 2.5

Just ok. Nothing really stood out.

Easy listening

Bitvis ganska svängigt på det där odistade sextiotal gitarrmusik sättet. Tre plus.

Great band name, made me hungry. This is a pretty fun little folk country album - nothing too special but for the time I bet it was.

Yet another album with Gram Parsons. Some points for the name of the band. I am getting a little bored of this 60's pop rock genre, which Gram Parsons' Wikipedia describes as "Cosmic American Rock." Low 3.

More decent country that I probably wont listen to again

Liked this one OK. I don't really get the genre mix here but that is OK. Gram Parsons seems really interesting, the more I learn about him. Also, what is Hot Burrito #2 about? It sounds like Jesus is his girlfriend or something? 3/5

Listened to this previously a number of times and listened again. I like the way it sounds but it still doesn’t seem to contain any memorable songs.

I'll definitely listen again as Gram Parsons is an artist I haven't had much exposure to, despite being well aware of his influence. This hasn't scared me off giving his back catelogue a listen. Got to be one of the worst named bands of all time.

a handful of solid country-rock tunes, but some boring ones too. had heft and depth i wasn't expecting going into it. i think i prefer the version of this sound that distilled its way into 21st century indie-folk but i don't mind this

Скукаа..

It's textbook country rock, which is not a genre I typically like. But it's done very competently.

Aaaaaarrrghhh 25% of these albums can't continue to be folk/country/rock albums that don't know what they really are can they? They do all feel similar... very 60sish very indistinguishable from each other. It wasn't bad at all but was just there.

That was fun

Can’t remember now

It... was.

Chill folksy music. Nothing special though.

Loistavaa kantria. Ei silleensä mitään erikoista, mutta ihan vaan tosi hyvää. Kesäistä musaa. Parhaat: Sin City, My Uncle, Hot Burrito #1

There's some good stuff on the album but it's soooo slow.

Country 60’s twangy

Offbeat quirky

Album was good. Nothing spectacular, but still an easy listen. 3/5 Might listen again

I really liked their cover of Do Right Woman. The rest of the album was enjoyable, but I’m not sure if I’ll listen again or forget about this one.

This sounds so 60s it almost makes you high!

I’m fine with this. It’s enjoyable country and not much more (in my eyes), but that’s okay.

country americano.. so bravi

Almost a 4 TBH - cosmic country AF

I really liked this album up to a point. This would’ve been a four or five for me, but I didn’t particularly care for the vocals. Guess I’ll give it a three.

An alright album, I liked Sin city.

I love them based on their name alone. Seems to be solid, middle of the road country. Probably wouldn't listen again, but I didn't hate it.

Bit too much Country for my tastes, but excellent musicians.

Nice little older country album. Reminds me of stuff my grandpa listened to.

# Album Name: The Gilded Palace Of Sin # Artist: The Flying Burrito Brothers # Rating: # Comments: Some good slide guitar in parts. Hot burrito no.2 was good. Other than that it was distinctly average. # Top Tunes: Hot burrito no.2 # Would I listen to it again? Only as background music i think.

Ok. Lots of slide guitar. And Gram Parsons, whom I don't really get yet.

A good album but nothing outstanding. 3 stars or C+ for me.

Нейтрально, не зацепило

Nothing interresting about this. Not actually bad but instantly forgettable.

Not bad. Need another listen.

I can vibe with a little western from time to time. Probably won't go back but it wasn't bad

I was a bit disappointed this wasn't more about burritos but may I wasn't listening properly. I think I needed to pay more attention. It was fine!

It was fine, guess it was a good time capsule of music but can't say it interested me too much, had some nice bits

Some pretty good stuff here.

Great band name. OK album.

Not a bad album, it was alright having this in the background while I was doing stuff. It was a slower version of a Beach Boys album. I understand that this was released 55 years ago, so this was enjoyable back then. Nowadays, it's a bit meh.

This band was trying too hard to be country musicians. 2.5 stars.

Wild to have never heard of this band before given their lineage and influence. Fun discovery

I'll admit, I groaned when I saw another Country Rock album come up but I ended up thinking it wasn't so bad a few tracks in, then I saw Gram Parsons was on this and it all clicked. I enjoyed his inclusion on this list so it made sense that I enjoyed this too. Good songwriting, vocal performances and goofy band name make this a solid, but nothing too special, country rock record.

I honestly thought these guys were a bunch of psychedelic rockers. Little did I know... I dug it, but you can definitely see where the country/rock crossover comes from. I can't say I will come back to it, though. Top tracks: "Dark End Of The Street," "Uncle," "Hippie Boy"

Not my thing. Not a big fan of more recent country rock so not much of a fan of the guys who sort of started it all. It's not awful and I like it better than straight ahead country. You could certainly do worse, and to quote the Eagles (a band inspired by these guys) the album has a peaceful easy feeling. But I'm not going to put this on repeat or go looking for more of the genre. I'll give them a slight uptick for being trailblazers.

You can call it "country rock" all you want - it's country. Not bad, just not my thing. Maybe the two Hot Burrito songs were more rock than country, but still not my thing. Favorite tracks: Christine's Tune, Dark End of the Street, My Uncle.

soft country rock, Parsons was relevant

It's generic but the vocals hit

Cool one

One tolerable song

Honestly, I had no idea what to expect when I saw this album come up. I was pleasantly surprised however. Stereotypical classic rock but has a charm to it. Easy listening and definitely something I wouldn't mind listening to again, but wouldn't go out of my way.

++ Hot Burrito #1, Hippie Boy + Christine's Tune, Sin City, Dark End of the Street, My Uncle, Wheels, Juanita, Hot Burrito #2, Do You Know How It Feels +- Do Right Woman 7,0/10

The Gilded Palace of Sin is the debut album from the Flying Burrito Brothers, and the band's best work. While not commercially successful, the album was critically celebrated, and very influential amongst musicians of the era. This was one of Gram Parson's early projects, and his success led to renewed interest in the Flying Burrito Brothers. This is one of the early, definitive works of country rock. Gram Parsons and Flying Burritos set a pattern for the Eagles and the country rock that flourished in the 70s.

Three stars for just the great dichotomy of the album jame and band name. Also because while I don't like modern country, I'll mess around with some old school country that hasn't forgotten it's blues roots yet.

Pleasant enough but now that I'm half way through this list I've heard a lot of this sort of thing.

"five isn't enough" said my husband. yeah well. 3 isn't enough. except I'm not going to give it 4

Interesting. Not sure what genre this is. Maybe a generous rating?

nothing special, cool little country album

It’s a good thing The Byrds kicked Gram Parsons out of the band so that he and Chris Hillman could move onto better things.

I admit I had no idea what to expect from a band called “The Flying Burrito Brothers”, but it turns out it’s classic country. This album started out really strong, but then kinda devolved into your average country album. Loved the first song though and the rest of the album was a fair listen.

Propers 70s. 3.7

I liked the parts that were more psych and soul influenced, but 90% of this album is generic country rock. Too much jesus talk. Cringe band name.

Not into this genre. Music ok not terrible.

Quite enjoyed this one, but not something I would wanna listen to again. 3/5

A band I’ve never heard of. Not mind blowing but not bad either. Decent enough that I would give it another listen

Excellent band name. Okay music.

This is one of those cases where I cannot stand the style of music which means it’s an album I won’t ever want to relisten to, however I recognise its place in history as an important album especially in its respective genre and the impact and influence it had, so for that I’m rating it three stars as a half way point between my feelings towards it and its importance in country music history. When taking these things into consideration you have to look at the context and history of it.

It’s fairly well executed psychedelic country-rock. Really not my thing, though.

Fun and light though not my fav genre

A blend of country, soul and gospel sounds great on paper but the music is so nuanced, it's close to falling over itself. The vocals are sweetly sung and the pedal steel weeps as you'd expect but at times the soupy sound is grating and rather cloying. The overall feeling is you have to be in the right mood to fully appreciate and overcome it's melancholic tendancy.

3.5 Stars. The ambitious early cross-pollination of musical styles and genres, and their subsequent impact on the musical landscape, gives this album a bit of a ratings boost.

Really cool name for a country outfit.

Country rock from 1969. Probably a good use of some 37 minutes.

I'm not a country fan so this was a tough go at the beginning, but as the album continued and it progressed into more of a bridge between country and rock, I got it. It felt very new and interesting to make that connection between what must have, at the time, been two distinct genres. The back half of the album is much stronger than the first. I won't listen again and I can't claim to be a fan, but I see how influential this album must have been.

Decent country rock. Neither like or disliked it.

This country rock sound was ubiquitous in just about every pub band playing in a rural bar in small towns all over America whose only other buildings were a post office, a gas station, and a country store. The Flying Burrito Bros. did this sound well, but honestly they are not bringing anything to it that had not already been there in the scene. Critics would have you think so, as would other artists later, but there were a ton doing this, just not many bands had an inside track like these guys did by being in The Byrds. Glen Campbell, Neil Young, and countless other outlaw country acts were already bending toward this direction. Well produced, but no favorite track. Not a lot of differentiation here. Sounds like one 37 minute long track interrupted be brief pauses. However I do recognize their importance as a proto modern-country rock band. As an aside, I love the band's collective furrowed brow in this cover image. Hilariously, ironically unpleasant look for a group of guys about to enter a gilded palace of sin.

Glatt och stundtals ganska bra.

I like country rock, though this was a mix of some interesting and some less for me...

I liked this! It was a 3 when I listened, I was in debates.

This was fun. Very much country more than rock. It seemed familiar though I don't think I've ever heard it before. It shows the influence it had on later bands and also the familiarity of Gram Parsons from his many other projects.

I have heard of this band, but I didn't know they were Country. It was OK. I liked the harmonies and some of the lyrics. It was short.

Surprisingly good. I'll give it a 3.5 (but closer to a 3 than a 4)

Closer to a 4

Average psych/country rock. Mainly terrible lyrics. Fantastic band name Balances out at a pretty solid 3

Easy country folky songs, but nothing stood out

It was fine. I listened to it twice through without realizing it had started over 🤪🤪

Doesn't sound too bad and quite clearly the connecting link between American folk/country with rock elements such as The Byrds and rock music with country elements such as The Eagles (is it coincidence that all three of these band names refer to flying creatures?). That said, while the historical relevance is pretty obvious, the music is not refined and simply not very enjoyable. Interesting listen, but now I'll go on to listen to something better.

Fun lil' country album. Crazy band name.

A lot of covers, but done decently.

Liderados por Gram Parsons, los Flying Burrito Brothers consolidaron el country-rock con este, su primer disco. Y aunque apenas despuntara en las listas populares influyó notablemente en grupos como los Eagles. Me gustan especialmente las versiones de "Dark End of the Street" y "Do Right Woman". Y destacan las composiciones de Parsons "Hot Burrito No. 1" y "Hot Burrito No. 2".

nett,.....burritos??

3/5 but only because it was short enough

очень внимательно слушала весь день но ничего не запомнила, ура! кантри не моё

Une incursion agréable dans le country-folk américain

Just didn't really move the needle for me I guess. Started to cook with Hot Burrito #1 and #2, but nothing else really stood out from there. Might be one of those albums that was probably influential at the time, but sounds a little tame when heard through modern ears with decades of country music that are easily accessible.

God country music just sucks but you gotta love their name. Favorite: Dark end of the street, Juanita Least favorite: Christian’s tune, Do right woman 3.5/5

Sounds exactly like the music that my Uncle Gordie often plays in his shed aka The Blue Lite Lounge up on the west coast of Newfoundland. Yes b'y, s'alright I s'pose.

One of the best all-time band names. Not one of my all-time favorite bands.

Starts strong, loses the plot by the end.

easy listening old country, nothing crazy in here but there are some catchy tunes

Perfectly fine

Good jazz, nothing that made me go I have to listen to it again.

fine country instrumentals, thought it would be worse. positively surprised for the genre

Alright.

This is pretty good stuff. Great musicianship & nice songs. It doesn't do enough to really draw me in though. I'd happily listen again, but am unlikely to seek it out.

Second half of the album is far superior to the first. The blues influence is stronger making for a much better experience.

Not my style but I do appreciate some of it. I like the spoken word storytelling of Hippie Boy, some of the country songs and even the lyrics are not my style.

Album Nr. 59 Eintönig und mittelmäßig.

I thought this was kinda ok. Somber country tunes with strong instrumentals, didn’t pick up on the fact that it was Gram Parsons singing until reading up on the album. It was good country, clever songwriting and imagery. My Uncle was janky and fun, Hot Burrito 1 and 2 were the standouts for me. 3 stars

Pretty unassuming Southern Rock. A couple songs were interesting lyrically, but I expected something more from a band called The Flying Burrito Brothers

Christine's Tune - 7.5/10 Sin City - 7/10 Do Right Woman - 7/10 Dark End of the Street - 7.5/10 My Uncle - 6.5/10 Wheels - 7/10 Juanita - 7/10 Hot Burrito #1 - 6.5/10 Hot Burrito #2 - 6.5/10 Do You Know How It Feels - 7/10 Hippie Boy - 7/10 TOTAL - 76.5/110

Probably great for someone who likes country. I couldn't take 3 songs.

This record was a very strong half good. But not every track worked for me. Still, the music and harmonies and songwriting made it worth while.

Hard one to rate. Because some of it I didn't like at all, way to much country for my personal tastes (Sin City, for example.) But a couple of songs were so good (Hot Burrito #2) that you have to take notice. I think the good averages out with the bad, and lends it as a average album.

I've got to be honest, this massively passed me by. It was perfectly pleasant, but made no lasting impression whatsoever. Sorry, I love burritos as well.

Adding a B3 to weird country songs doesn’t make them cool. This album’s wasn’t for me but it didn’t completely suck.

California country rock. Just ok for me, nothing stands out.

I didn’t like this at first but it grew on me with a few listens. I probably won’t put this in heavy rotation but I would definitely come back to it at some point.

1. chriztinez tune - 1.5 2. zin city - 1.5 3. do right uuoman - 1.5 4. dark end of the ztreet - 1 5. my uncle - 1 6. uuheelz - 1 7. juanita - 1.5 8. burrito 1 - 2 9. burrito 2 - 1.5 10. knouu houu it feelz - 1 11. hippie boy - 2

Rock folksy music. Nice.

This is a decent album. Not my favorite, but it’s good. 3.7/5 Fav: “Wheels” Least Fav: “Hot Burrito #1”, “Hot Burrito #2”

It was just kind of average

Another all right country album that just misses a bit of that special flair that would make it stand out among this genre of often too similar sounding genre.

Interesting album. I had never heard of the band before. Not my favorite but also not bad.

This is my type of shit, so I'm pre-disposed to like it. It's ultimately a bit sleepy and not a super dynamic album. I'd be happy to listen any time, but it's not a complete triumph or anything.

Corny Country with some mild counter culture flair. Not too groovy or rockin to me.

Fun. Glad I listened to this album. Not aligned well enough to my taste for more than 3 stars, though.

Never before or since in the music industry has there been a discrepancy as obvious as the one between one of the coolest album titles and one of the silliest band names.

Neither here nor there for me.

Slightly more enjoyable the most country music but still not my bag.

Eh. Fine. Better than expected, even. But not great.

There's a lot of twee and twang taking place here. Plus plenty of sorrow. Dark End of the Street just might be the best version of the song ever recorded. Decent harmonising. It still sounds like it could have been recorded this year by some alt country revivalists.

favourite song: hippy boy least favourite song: sin city it was alright but thats all it was, loved hippie boy though.

Een standaard country album

-this is the funniest name for a band i have ever seen -i have never heard of them or this album -also Such a cool album cover i love their outfits -and this first song is quite nice -loving these country vibes going on -the lyrics to do right woman are a little wacky -the first half is sweet and the last half a little sus -really just the giving a man respect part huh?????? -the instruments in the background are just perfect -obsessed with this love song being called hot burrito #1 -okay hot burrito #2 is not as good tbh -last song is giving storytime -is that an organ in the back????? -you know what. if it is i’m glad. we need to bring back the organ in songs -overall this was an enjoyable album! i’m giving it three stars

Solid country rock, gets a bit whiny at times.

Pretty nice. Worth another listen

This was just fine, the last song stood out to me for some reason.

Fully expected to dislike this, but it was actually kind of pleasant. It’s country/folk more than psych rock. That said, it didn’t strike me as anything standout or memorable, and I’m not really compelled to listen again.

I'm going to ignore Hippie Boy... we'll give them a track that we won't penalize them for. Other than that, the album is a pretty straightforward late 60's sounding western-rock record with pop sensibilities. The best songs are borrowed, Dark End and Do Right Woman, but otherwise pretty innocuous. All is fine.

Did not really hit me at all until the second half, but still nothing special. Wheels is the best song

Inoffensive. But not much going on.

Had it’s moments

country classique

Not my style of Music, but good enough!

interesting blend of blues, country and rock. Would like to listen some more.

Country. Ni fu ni fa.

Not all that groundbreaking or innovative, but this is up and down something I was always going to think was pretty good. Parsons' style of songwriting and voice usually just tides me over, and while there's maybe no standout songs, I don't really think there are any stinkers either. I may be becoming predictable, but lap steel guitar and the Byrds' harmonies will pretty much always sound good to me. Three and a half. Fave tracks: Dark End of the Street and Hot Burrito #1

Wanted to like this more.

Definitely the template for country rock albums! Considering how old it is I found it pretty enjoyable and it held up well.

Some of these songs I really really liked, and some fell completely flat for me.

First off, I want to start by saying that I really like the name "The Flying Burrito Brothers". I just think it's really funny. With that positive statement out of the way, I am not the biggest fan of this album. Given the name of both the album and artist, you'd expect something really weird akin to the Os Mutantes album I listened to a few days ago. In reality, it is merely serviceable country music. I really do not like modern country music, but classic country's alright. It's just not really my thing. And you know what? That's okay. This album's sound is pretty good. The lyrics and subject matter are fine. Nothing really stuck out to me. I wouldn't call it bad per se. I'm sure there are people who would really like this album... but I'm not one of them. I will however show it some courtesy due to its influence and the fact that it's a country album that I didn't absolutely hate by giving it a low 3/5.

Rating: 6/10

southern rock with dashes of psychedelia and gospel thrown in. interesting album.

This was a precursor to a lot of stuff I like, it sounds like. It wasn't bad.

Bah, normal.

Such a great album name. The music was fine, but didn't quite live up to it.

Listened to a few tracks. I knew of the album before. Very easy listening country/rock. Not bad musically but a bit of a snooze. Wouldn't put on out of choice. 5/10

Not so hot on the folk stuff, but I liked its unexpected slips into psychedelia. "Hippie Boy" felt a bit hypocritical, coming from Gram Parsons, but maybe that's the point. Hippie-critical.

Not all that unpleasant. Some questionable and dark song themes which detracted from the music (Juanita I’m looking at you).

This is interesting! I'm not sure if it'll make it into the regular rotation, but it is interesting enough that I'm glad it's on the list.

I wish I had one of those suits - otherwise pleasant twangy music to work to

This album is the forebearer (as is Gram Parsons) for alt-country and is incredibly important for that reason. The Flying Burrito Brothers did it first, but they did not do it best. I prefer Gram Parsons's and his solo material to this, but there is a place in the book for it. Being first means something, but the songs aren't as good as I would like them to be.

Maybe 2.5

assez oubliable

It's too bad that The Flying Burrito Bros lasted only a short while and enjoyed only marginal success. Alt-country might have become a bigger deal than is it today.

Exquisitely crafted country. Considering the publication date, I bet the rock fusion was really something unique.

Country twangy songs. Not particularly bad, nor particularly good.
