Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Name 3 songs that aren't the legendary singles. I've heard this record 3 times and still can't.

3 beers deep at a hockey game : hell yeah 5:30 am on the way to work and actually paying attention : woof

Solid hard rock album. Straight ahead, pounding Rock-n-Roll.

Oh wow, lots of classic ACDC in this one. I just don't like the singing of ACDC (I just learned they switched singers during this album), but musically I dig this album. 3*. It's also too dude-y for me.

The singles are great but the other tracks are too formulaic and the lyrics are too shallow for me to give this a 4.

If you like AC/DC it's a masterpiece. If you don't like AC/DC is a trite effort Shook me all night long and Back in Black are bops. Hells Bells is fun too. Everything else is mediocre and generic.

Some great songs on here

Not my thing.

Rocks hard. Enjoyable throughout. Doesn’t feel essential.

Before listening: It's AC/DC, I know some songs, it's dadrock and each song kinda sounds the same. After listening: It's AC/DC, I know some more songs now, it's dadrock and each song kinda sounds the same.

Good hard rock album that keeps the same style as their previous releases from the 70s. They say don't fix it if it ain't broken except that a lot of the NWOBHM bands around this time period released excellent material making Back In Black seem dated.

These guys are pretty dope. I’d have to be in a specific mood to listen to their music but can’t deny they are hype af.

This one is a step above Highway to Hell from two days ago. Feels a little tighter. Though RIP to Bon Scott, so many musicians leave us way too soon. Bonus points for You Shook Me All Night Long. Makes my American thighs want to dance.

This album is more than just noisy singing, unlike what I have believed in the past. The songwriting has more depth than I thought, the musicianship involves a little more than just a rock beat with power chords, and the mix of the album is quite good. Unfortunately, listening to the lead singer still adds fatigue, and I believe their music is better suited for mixtapes for my listening desires.

Better than I remembered but kinda trailed a bit at the end

Their hits are basically a novelty at this point but hearing them in context within the greater album was great. Got to hear more facets of Angus' voice. Not exactly my cup of tea but had fun.

Enjoyed this more than I care to admit, still a 3

I do not like AC/DC. This album, however, is undeniable. I begrudgingly give it three stars.

this is a pretty standard rock album until the title track goes off like an absolute bomb....has there ever been a song that hard

This one scratches a certain itch every now and then.

A bit repetitive, but actually a lot of fun. Simple songs, high-flying vocals, catchy melodies.

Every note is easily predictable, yet it’s still ok to listen to.

I get why people like it, but I always find it a bit corny.

Rock™

I have a very unique and rare take on AC(lightning bolt)DC: all of their songs sound the same, and I don't quite like the singer's voice. I would have given this album a 5 if I was in highschool.

Second best selling album of all time (at one point) and 25x platinum. Its quite the accolade. I can understand the appeal, sped up blues style with big solos and brash performance. Good entertaining music but not particularly interesting to me. Decent listen

my dad used to listen to this a lot: it's fun

This is the musical equivalent of the 1985 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Commando both in that it is an incredibly basic "Guy" thing and in that despite that it still manages to be entertaining. Also, people who like Back in Black probably also like Commando.

I liked it

I like some songs but do appreciate AC/DC and how they influenced music!

I don’t like all 80’s rock, but I do enjoy some AC/DC from time to time. Definitely don’t like every song on the album though. Listened as a workout album today which worked well for my weight workout.

Headbanger Rock

Simple rock done well. Lots of recognizable hits. I probably would have rated it 3 or 4 stars when I was 18-20 but today I can’t actually picture myself putting this on when so much more interesting music exists. I guess a good album to have to put on when entertaining a bland boomer/ conservative crowd.

AC/DC are one of the most simple yet entertaining bands out there. But 42 minutes of filler AC/DC in-between all the hits just ain't doing it all that much for me.

A unique sound, but it got repetitive real fast. Good in short bursts.

All things considered that was pretty meh. Angus Young's guitar was pretty nice but that was offset by Brian Johnson's voice which I strongly dislike (though not as strongly as I dislike Bob Dylan's). There was also very little variety across the album it was mostly the same feel to every song. Yeah this album didn't really do it for me it was just overall very monotonous and monochromatic in terms of sound, lyrics, and feel. I really don't get all the hype around AC/DC I don't really think they're that special.

Honestly pretty repetitive album with similar songs playing over and over. Not one I'll go back to very often. Not even back in black itself could save it. Screechy

Shout out loud

I feel the same about the music as I did when I first heard it 25 years ago. It’s fun, stupid hard rock. As I’ve matured, however, I’ve gone from finding the lyrics amusing to largely distasteful.

Plenty of good songs, but very overplayed.

Was soll man zu diesem Album schreiben..

It’s fine I heard it before and can see why people like it. Really good gym music

I don't understand AC/DC. It wasn't terrible, but it's not my thing. I'd give it a 2.5 if I could.

Classic Rock. Yes, it rocks.

The instrumental open of Hell's Bells is a great way to start an album. For what they do this is some peak ACDC rock. It's almost so generic nowadays that I have a hard time listening to it. Wonder how it wound have sounded as a new release instead of years of these songs being in every movie and commerical.

I feel the same way about this album as I do the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. They both represent the bare bones of their respective genres and are widely beloved. Having heard/watched their successors, I feel like maybe I was too late to the party to truly get this album (and movie).

More enjoyable than I expected based on my limited experience with them. Not really my jam though.

pretty nice hard rock album. has some great songs. 7.3/10

I enjoy their sound, but all AC/DC songs basically sound like the same song.

Look, its hard to judge an album when you have heard all of the songs before. I think there is a reason that I have, because many songs on this album are hits. However, when you combine them all together, it all becomes very same same. Same baseline hits, same chorus catches, same everything. These songs are great when you just want to hear a 'rock' song, but together, it is not an amazingly enjoyable experience.

two words: (1) shredded (2) cheese. (1) banging riffs (2) corny lyrics

Pretty standard rock n roll

I am very familiar with this album. My husband and son listen to it quite frequently.

A step up from their previous album. Maybe getting a new singer helped them reflect on their style and what was important for the band. The instrumentals seem to have a lot more guitar solos screaming throughout them and honestly vocally as similarly as they are I give the edge to Brian Johnson's vocals. Every single track on this album was on the radio at some point but lyrically it is still incredibly simple and overall very formulaic album but if you were to ask me the definition of rock and roll I would hand you this album.

Not really much to say its an iconic rock album

Pretty good album with a few stand out songs, the other songs were fairly lackluster. Brian's voice really starts to grate after the 4th song. 3.

It's AC/DC. Pretty fun, but not very special to me

A little same-y, but great for the morning and a drive.

A vibe for sure. Makes me want some white lines

CLassic angry Elmo. Not my favorite but a classic.

All the tracks sound the same. Granted they rock but it gets a bit boring after a while. You shook me all night is the best track without a doubt.

1980. Kinda interesting to realize when exactly this album came out

Not my thing, but can appreciate the high technical skill on display here

It was just fine. Solid hits but the lyrics were boring and it was just generally really repetitive. The riffs were sick tho

3* Crap singing. Class music.

A bit too much filler, but the hits go HARD

Solid album. I’ve just heard them 2 million times

probably better in context. One of the best selling albums of all time. 3.5

Some huge bangers. Too many mid temp and noisy songs in a row.

Hele album heel erg hetzelfde.

This is a guilty pleasure of mine— it’s the only AC/DC album I own and the only one I’ll ever need— though a little goes a long way. AC/DC is a one trick pony, and it gets tiring hearing the same song over and over again for a full album. (The bass player could play the same single note in 4/4 time for the entirety of the album and it wouldn’t sound out of place.) And that’s not even getting into the questionable or problematic material. There’s a distinction between prudishness and lasciviousness, and AC/DC can switch sides. Sex is a lot of fun, I don’t think most people would argue that, and there’s nothing wrong writing about that. In fact, that’s what rock and roll is all about when you get down to it. However, when it turns into objectification, misogyny, and rapey-ness, and it often does, it becomes harder to justify. Lines like ‘don’t you struggle, don’t you fight’ take the enjoyment right out of it. Or when you talk about ‘given the dog a bone’ and it dehumanizes the other person, it just feels icky. Some may say all AC/DC is like that, and they may have a point. I still like Hell’s Bells, Back in Black, and You Shook Me All Night Long, though the other material makes them harder to enjoy as I get older.

I'm a sucker for catchy guitar hooks which helps make up for the banal lyrics of AC/DC and grating vocals for me. They wrote some catchy rock anthems that make me want to get out the guitar and learn 3 or 4 chords.

AC/DC songs are just a vehicle for Angus to play a guitar solo. They really are best consumed as a closing pitcher's entrance music instead of by the album.

Goeie riffs maar irritante vocals Fav song: let me put my love into you

Basically the same big dumb macho song 10 times. But that guitar sound… 🤤

The songs are hits. The production is good. It has withstood the test of time. I just don't like ac/dc.

1/5 - never listening again 2/5 - its decent but not for me 3/5 - would listen again 4/5 - going in my playlist 5/5 - going on repeat No. Title 1. "Hells Bells" 3/5 2. "Shoot to Thrill" 3/5 3. "What Do You Do for Money Honey" 4/5 4. "Given the Dog a Bone" 1/5 5. "Let Me Put My Love into You" 3/5 6. "Back in Black" 4/5 7. "You Shook Me All Night Long" 3/5 8. "Have a Drink on Me" 2/5 9. "Shake a Leg" 2/5 10. "Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution" 2/5 Album: 2.7

Typical and classic AC/DC. Album was good but not good enough to convince me to listen to a second album.

Love the hits, the other songs not so much. It hurts my voice to listen to this.

First album on this journey, and pretty solid start! Liked Back in black, and the chorus of let me put my love into you (the predatory vibes are there, it was the 80s so what should I expect lol) 20/10/2023

I was ready for this album to be a certified classic but aside from the hits, it's really not that great.

I've always enjoyed AC/DC, but still don't like Brian Johnson's voice. The double edged sword is knowing that AC/DC would likely not be as iconic without his vocals, but I would enjoy it more.

it’s all the same song. it’s a good song but I don’t need it 9 times in a row

The shrieking is a bit much for me, but I enjoyed the album overall! It reminds me a lot of my dad, since he loves AC/DC and definitely owns and plays this album a lot (to my mom's chagrin). Highlights were "Shoot to Thrill," "Back in Black," and "You Shook Me All Night Long" although those were also the songs I was most familiar with, so that could be why I enjoyed them the most. I am not the biggest fan of Brian Johnson's voice, but the guitars/bass/drums were great. The album did feel like a lot of the same thing over and over. I think I'd give this 3.5, but I am rounding down bc I want more room at the top for better albums.

the first of i presume many albums with songs i was introduced to via being a teenage supernatural fan, a fact that i will not acknowledge under further interrogation i don't rly wanna listen to them all back to back but i COULD karaoke literally half of these songs at Any Moment

AC/DC should never be purchased on vinyl, because they should never be listened to as an entire album

I thought AC/DC was heavier rock than this album I only knew back in black and you shook me all night long going into this, but a lot of the songs felt identical

amazing

a bit shouty, not like tom shouty but rock ig quite catchy and upbeat but not sure if my style

Of course the second most popular album of all time, with 50 millions sales is gonna be here, i have to say i know som songs, but i never listen to it completely. its dedicated to the memory of Bon Scott and they managed to replace him but they also managed to keep what make them so good with him. If it as sold so many reccord its for a reason, this kind of arena rock, heavy sound and hard rock theme is the key of sucess for them. Hells Bells as a good intro. My favorite are: Shoot to Thrill, Back in black and You shook me all night long. I think those 3 songs ahve the most iconic riffs and vocals by Johnson. The guitar work of the Young brothers is very impressive through out the album I have to say that the other song, except hells bells, kinda all look the same, same paterns, similar lyrics and riffs. So with all that i have come to the conclusion that, this album is good, very easy to listen and apreciate, but i dont find it as good as other heavy or hard rock album, it does not have the toughness of Guns N' roses or the solos of Led Zeppelin, and the viurtuosity of Van Halen (in my opinion) the but the good riffs are amognst the best off all time. I will say that this album is overated, AC/DC is without a doubt one of the best band off all times, but maybe it dosen't deserved as much credit or attention, even tough i say it again its a good album, but i dont find it very origians, a but too much classic and deja vu.

Hells Bells is a good opener, but I think it would've been better if it was switched with the first track on side 2.

Classics for sure, never heard the whole thing through but love the bells.

Dad Rock. Music and instrumentals are good. The singer is a bit grating, but I already knew. FLYYYYY ON A WALL. Different album, but I had that on tape. My brother must've bought it. Anyway, 3/5.

Recently found out AC/DC was a slang term for bisexuality. Dont tell Angus Young. First album after their original lead singer died. You dont really get many bands who still carry on after a death, especially under the same name, especially when they had so much credibility already. Bon Scott died of alcohol overdose in London, hence the Big Ben chimes. Actually a bit of a nutcase. Worth a google. Though Bon Scott was almost the personification of ACDC, Brian Johnson delivers and give ACDC their most famous album. Probably because its hit after hit. Defiantly their mainstream effort. Would never be topped. Total Cock Rock. SOT: Hells Bells Shoot to Thrill Back In Black You Shook Me All Night Long Shake a Leg Rock and Roll Aint Noise Pollution 3.5/5

It’s coo

Good Rock Album

I've never been a big AC/DC fan but their sound and charisma re undeniable. One of the defining records of heavy rock.

It's largely alright isn't it. Most of the tunes blend into one, which is pretty typical of this era of ROCK nonsense. Couple of well known tunes in amongst it, but on the whole pretty meh and not as good as yesterday. Rob will probably call this shite and give it 8 stars. For me, it's 3

Classic rock RIFFS with some grating vocals but some bangers. Camfield approved

Album as a whole wasn’t my cup of tea, but can appreciate the instruments and vocals. First half of the album pales by far in comparison to the second half. All of the best songs are in the second half.

I’m not too fond of AC/DC. Not at all.

Rifftastic classic rock. 3.5 stars.

Blir medelbetyg.

B- Hells Bells 4 Shoot to Thrill 4 What Do You Do for Money Honey 2 Givin the Dog a Bone 2 Let Me Put My Love Into You 3 Back In Black 4 You Shook Me All Night Long 4 Have a Drink On Me 2 Shake a Leg 2 Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution 3 This was alright. It was either a banger or a clanger. There wasn't much in between. Sorry Mahin. F***in B****!

Classic power cord arena rock. The songs are simple both musically and lyrically, but remain mostly fun. 3/5 would listen to the hits again

Does what it says on the tin

AJ: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Cat: high energy classic rock n roll. Listening to Angus shriek for an entire album is a lot. Fun as hell tho

I mean, the lyrics are terrible and the screaming gets tired, but if you're looking for hard driving guitar rock, this is classic.

Cheesy Spinal Tap-like fare - but "what's wrong with being sexy?" as Nigel Tufnel would say. Actually quite fun, TBH, though it gets a bit samey after a while. Favorite song Shake a Leg. Giving this a 3, but its a strong 3.

well, it's good, but i can only take so much of this kind of metal at one time. the whole time listening to this i was just thinking of how much i would hate an ac/dc concert. i just know they'd be playing their stupid guitars for like 10 extra minutes for every song.. it'd be sooo unenjoyable. anyway, like i said, it's good but i really get tired of stuff like this after the second or third song.

Obviously some classics on here but I just do not love 80s guitars… they’re just a little too much. Maybe I’m just a child idk

Rock. Guitars. Solos. Drums. Gets end away. (Jealous). Friends last episode advert. Every hollywood action film. End scene. They can have a bonus point for managing not to go on the nonce like many of their generation. Well done lads.

Definitely a time and a place for AC/DC, very fun, iconic riffs. Like the previous album, all very samey mind. No surprisingly good or bad songs, mostly just the same song. Always liked the singers voice, really good for rock, very over the top, bit axl rose. It's a 3.

You Shook Me All Night Long, and Let Me Put My Love Into You are my favourites from the album. It doesn't really get exciting though. Not bland, just never really takes off. I bet they are great fun to see live. Angus Young has a house in a small village close to me in the Netherlands. Never seen him though. -1 star.

I snobbily see this kind of rock a bit basic and low hanging fruit type thing.... It is entertaining, but there's no substance to it. This is probably better than their last album we had, but it's all samey. Back in black and you shook me all night long are the highlights. I'd listen to those tracks again but not going to be missing out if I never hear any of the rest of it again 3, as it's not bad, it's just not that interesting when you have to listen to a whole album of it

- don't really like brian johnsons voice tbh - not much variety, but some kickin dad rock bangers - haven't actually listened all the way through until now - not a very good flow, just plays like a hits album 3/5 GOOD - shoot to thrill - what do you do for money honey - you shook me all night long

Probably their best album. Some great tracks. But nothing to top Led Zep.

Not as great as i remembered on re listen. The classics stand up

Brian Johnson steps into the late Bon Scott’s formidable shoes and revitalizes AC/DC. The lyrics are your typical macho fare, and the back half is much stronger than the front, but there’s an undeniable power behind the melodies.

It's... okay, I guess. I wouldn't mind hearing it elsewhere, but won't likely put it on myself. Back in Black is a banger, I knew the sound, but not the name of the song, shame on me. + Back In Black + Let Me Put My Love Into You + What Do You Do For Money Honey

Hells Bells, Back in Black and You Shook Me are tolerable. The rest was tedious and made my head hurt. Still an album that should be heard.

I thought I was going to enjoy this one, but man, Brian Johnson is hard to endure over the course of an album. Not to mention the sexual innuendos were hardly innuendo and seemed a whole lot more clever when I was in high school. The riffs never stop, and "Shook Me All Night Long" holds up, but even "Hells Bells" and "Back In Black" sounded screechier than they used to. I guess it's me, but this wasn't nearly as much fun as it used to be.

This album is really hard for me to properly rate. I've been an AC/DC "hater" for a while now - but I tried to listen to this all the way through giving the music a clean slate and open mind. Honestly, my initial thoughts are: Hey! This music is really fun. Could be good for a poker night with my friends. The longer I listen though, the more I think: This stuff isn't all that complex or creative though... and I don't think the vocals do much good... and some of the lyrics *are* questionable. It makes me nod my head along though (most of the time). Just going to put it at 3 stars, because that feels correct.

Hells bells, back in black, you shook me: are all you really need to know. not much else to talk ab honestly

Malcolm Young is one hell of a riff maker. And Brian Johnson’s snarling voice is the epitome of hard rock. There are some real bangers on Back In Black that are sure to make me shout along every time they pop up - “Hells Bells”, the title track and “You Shook Me All Night Long” being the best examples. But as with many a hard rock band the formula is just too repetitive in the end. And many of the songs I simply don’t care for altogether.

Out of all the hard rock giants, ACDC has the the least variety in their music, and I don't love them in the way I love more substantial rock bands like Led Zeppelin. Even so this album was a fun listen.

Hell's Bells, Back in Black, You Shook Me, and Rock n Roll are 4 great songs, but I'm not convinced that they're worth the effort of sitting through the other 6 somewhat embarassing and boring songs about how horny they were.

I'm not really a fan of Acca Dacca, even though few of their songs are actually iconic, like the self-titled Back In Black, a track that is prevalent in gyms all around the World, together with "You Shook Me All Night Long". Is it entertaining? Sure, pretty nice song with a very catchy riff and quite fun vocal. But whole album, or listening to any song for more than two times in a row is part of guantanamo torture. Great job boys down under, your songs are everywhere and I just have enough of it.

An example of rock music's raw power, unbridled energy, and unapologetic attitude. This album is an energetic ride from start to finish. Brian Johnson's gritty vocals take center stage throughout the entire album, giving the songs an unique touch. Sadly, I’m not the biggest fan of his vocals as I find them too whiny at times. Many of the songs show AC/DC’s unrelenting spirit and unadulterated rock sensibility. Each track boasts infectious hooks, memorable choruses, and infectious guitar solos that will had me air-guitaring along. The band's chemistry is undeniable, with Angus and Malcolm Young's guitar interplay forming the backbone of the album's signature sound. The rhythm section, comprising Cliff Williams on bass and Phil Rudd on drums, provides a solid foundation to the sound. The title-track is the album’s most recognizable and most memorable song with it’s guitar riff and Johnson's powerful vocals. My favorite song however is ”You Shook Me All Night Long”, highlighted by it’s amazing chorus. This is no-doubt a rock classic, well mixed and produced and had I been a bigger fan of the vocal work, this wouldve earned a higher rating.

Some classic radio plays but not for me.

3, but only because BinB kinda pays the price of admission all by itself.

Only bad thing I can say is that towards the end it felt like I was listening to the same thing over again. Still too many classics to have a bad rating.

Full on classic rock and roll. For me it is a mood thing...not always in the mood for Johnson's vocals but always love the music.

It is what it is.

The point where they became a joke band rather than a dangerous one.

It's so damn hard not to head bang, air guitar and air drum along with every single track. But if you stop to think for even a second, everything is all rather boring and samey. Best not to think and just rock! 3 / 5 stars.

How do you rate an album like this? It ranges from misogynistic drivel with boring riffs to the sublime heights of “Back in Black”, possibly the best rock song ever recorded. Not sure I would ever reach for the whole album again. 3.5 stars

An album that's a victim of its own success. There are good songs but they've been overplayed to the point that I'm sick of them. Hells Bells and Back In Black are stand out tracks. Hot take: Bon Scott > Brian Johnson.

Good Rock Album

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Definitely, brings back so many memories and has aged like a fine malt Favourite song: Track 2 - Shoot to Thrill

After listening to Led Zeppelin, this was a let down, but not garbage

I’ve heard these songs a combined 10675645 times in my life, and not by choice either. The love for these songs has been beaten out of me because of how often they play on the radio. As harsh as I am with AC/DC’s three-chord

This album has all of their hits. I had never listened to an AC/DC album from start to finish, and I didn't hate it. I'm definitely not a fan of the band, and I will continue to change the station when they come on the radio. But not the worst.

I'm not a huge fan of AC/DC personally, but you have to admit that have some bangers and have some really solid guitar. Hells Bells, Back in Black, Shook Me All Night Long, these are absolute classics that will light up any Manitoba social. The rest of the songs are pretty bland, fortgettable and same-y. The vocals suck - it's like if Axl Rose couldn't hit a note. The last track is absolute dog shit.

Lots of iconic songs on here that I recognize from various tv shows and movies. Not my cup of tea but I didn’t hate it.

This is objectively good but just not really to my tastes as I’m not a metal fan. The guitar and vocals were so fun even if they got a little similar at times. The hits obviously I knew and enjoyed for the most part. It wasn’t a bad listen just not something I really would go back to.

A lot of screaming, but it puts you in a mood! Let Me Put My Love Into You was a great changeup when he moved into his chest voice/lower register. A lot of noise, but fun panning to create a different environment.

OVERALL: 6.5/10 Hells Bells - 8/10 - Nice tribute to previous singer Shoot to Thrill - 7/10- Pretty catchy, feels a bit repetitive in the beginning. The second half interlude is nice. What Do You Do For Money Honey - 6/10 - lyrics feel boomer as shit. Feels a bit filler and repetitive. Givin the Dog a Bone - 5/10 - Pretty creative head references, but for an entire song is kind of ridiculous Let Me Put My Love Into You - 5/10 - sexual innuendos account for 75% of this album so far, none of which have been very good. Back in Black - 8/10 - Classic song, catchy guitar, vocals sound the best on this song. The delivery of verses is great throughout, even if the lyrics themselves a little uninspiring. You Shook Me All Night Long - 8/10 - Favorite song so far. Has a nice position between melodic well though out lyrics and still maintaining their harsher vocals and rock sound. Have a Drink on Me - 4/10 - Formulaic song that is only redeemed by its solo. Shake a Leg - 5/10 - Forgettable song that has an okay guitar riff and solo. Goes on for too long. Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution - - Killer intro, love the the riff and laid back vocal style. Best solo on the album as well. Just very solid track that caps off this album very well.

Better then Highway to Hell

Toxic Masculinity’s theme

It’s just variants of the same song, but a damn good song.

Second half of the album is far better than the first. 7/10.

Always thought ac dc were kinda dumb. Still do. But this was quite fun actually.

This should be my type of thing but it just felt kinda dated and generic. I don’t know, I feel that maybe if I’d listened to this on another day, when I was in the right mood, I would’ve enjoyed it more… BUT, I wasn’t.

Stark trea alltså. Back in black och you shook me all night long är ju två riktigt bra låtar, går inte att komma bort från det. Lite same same dock

not my thing, but kinda rocks all the same

The vocals are obnoxious, the lyrics are cringey and the hits are overplayed, HOWEVER, this is a really good album. Thematically consistent, impeccably constructed and contains all the gravitas one expects from the boys down under. 5/7.

entire band was ruined for me by a kid in my middle school that thought he was really hot shit and played nothing but back in black on his guitar; and not well mind you

Very consistent and punchy rock album. I'm not a big fan of the vocals and some of the lyrics haven't aged well (or were ever good, let's be honest here). Besides that, the riffs and solos are great.

a very repetitive yet classic rock and roll record. i feel as if the everything before the title track sounds almost identical. it’s only after that track where the album picks up for me. the vocals are solid, and the riffs are overall great. favorite track: have a drink on me least favorite tracks: what do you do for money honey, back in black

fav song let me put my love into you, I like drum :) but a few songs do feel a bit repetitive

iconic vocals and awesome instrumentals, badass motorcycling with my gang as my salt and pepper beard stiffly sways against the wind on the empty mojave desert highway or simply just in megamind movie, some repetitiveness but all hype ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE fav songs: hells bells, wdydfmh, back in black (duh), shake a leg

It's lowest common denominator rock your cock off kind of stuff. They know what they're doing, and they do it well with energy and a sense of humour

racist

There were several "classic" songs on this album, definitely stuff I've heard on the radio before. I didn't love it overall, I've never been a huge fan of the lead singer's voice.

Solid arena rock I guess. Not my taste.

Its good for what it is but what it is is radio-arena rock

Pretty meh except for a couple songs.

Not bad

Energetic, but repetitiveness makes it feel meh

It’s a classic but not something I would likely turn to and I prefer bon scott

There is a lot of 70s/80s hard Rock this is an decent exampl

Absolutely classic

Wow, a whole album that created a generation of to-be-cranky about new music dads.

Very good

Absolute epic introduction with Hell's Bells.

No song of this genre should be longer than 3 minutes long. Very repetitive. Only interesting riff is on Have a Drink on Me, though this may just be because the other songs have been played to death on the radio for 1000 years.

A couple of gems.

Best wel lawaaiierig

High Energy. Perfect start middle and end Song. But fillers seem quite monotone ans all Sound the same

Hard Core Rock and Roll Great singles and in general very solid piece. As Angus Young said “it all sounds as the same song, but it is such a food song”

It’s hard not to be impressed by Angus Young’s riff work on this album - very intuitive and extremely creative given the very narrow parameters this band set themselves. There’s a couple of real classics on this record, a few stinkers too. Brian Johnson’s vocals are just as annoying as Bon Scott’s, however, and that’s what ultimately prevents me from enjoying AC/DC’s work as much as say Motorhead or Thin Lizzy. A really good album on the whole.

Lange halen, snel thuis.

Solid yet very repetative rock album

Very self-aware. AC/DC operates in their own lane, basically covering the same 3 topics to create Sports bar rock n' roll. This album is double entendre after double entendre. I probably will never revisit this album in its entirety but won't be able to here the unavoidable hits at bars or sporting events.

It's an AC/DC album. Not bad, some great moments, very samey 🤷

29/03/2022 - 06/07/2022

Iconic rock (not too extreme). Kinda like it ushered in the showman glitzy Rock of the 80's before it got grungy again in the 90's. It's ok, bearable in small doses like this. Well produced and controlled and accomplished musically but it doesn't have that dirty feel- it's a bit too sanitised. Compare this with Ace of Spades (also 1980) and you may agree? It reminds me why I never got into them. Still good though.

De va ok!

je n’apprécie pas particulièrement (cris désagréables)

Couple of big ones but overall this was not the pub rock Mecca I was expecting/hoping for

I’ll fuck with some AC/DC

Ah!

Sounds like it's sung by the Fake Rod Hull. Just can't get into shrieky dumbo rock.

It may be sacrilegious to say but apart from the title track and You Shook Me All Night Long I can’t say a whole album of Brian screaming and Angus duck walking is quite my thing. There’s a little repetition and a lack of spark to the rest of the record. Fair play - they know what they are doing but I’ll take a pass.

AC/DC only has one level, 11.

Some fun riffs, slightly questionable lyrics. It's fairly enjoyable, although the aerosmith we've had on the list does the same thing much better.

Another solid rock album.

...second best-selling album in music history? I think I've been surprised by that before. Kinda simplistic but fun and I've heard these all a million times but man, those drum beats are boring AF.

Hressileg plata.

It's alright. It's a strong AC/DC album, to be sure....but all of the songs have always sounded the same

Escuchado en otras ocasiones. En otro tiempo me gustaba mas

Rock and roll never forgets. It’s aight.

I can see why people would really like this. It wasn't 100% for me but it was more fun than I expected.

Musically, as basic as in the Bon Scott era, which is fine on the good stuff - simple, catchy and entertaining. Lyrically, still as juvenile as ever!

Alright?

Classic rock album, some great tracks and some dodgy ones

I think I've figured out how to be myself after listening to this album.

Its an important album, in that it shows the transition of replacement after the death of a band member, in this case the singer Bon Scott. I had to re-listen to Highway to Hell to see how different the vocals are, interestingly they aren't that different. Black in Black and Hell's Bells are great tracks, classic hard rock. Love the energy and riffs, but some lyrics haven't dated that well.

ST. PAULI! ST. PAULI! ST. PAULI! ST. PAULI! Sorry I drifted off again there. Aside from the St. Pauli connection I have no strong feelings about AC/DC either way. If they just played the intro to Hell's Bells on loop for 40 minutes it would be a 5. As it is, it's a 3.

Never been a huge AC/DC fan aside from a few big tunes. Same applies here, some great anthems but padded out with fairly generic rock.

Amy Winehouse sounds a bit different

Does exactly what it says on the box

Brings back college memories.

Possible the most bearable of the heavy metal ear assault, a deserving 3 because Back In Black is a banger even if you hate the genre

It's AC/DC so you know it's gonna be good. That said, aside from the two bangers everyone knows--Back in Black and You Shook Me All Night Long--there's nothing else that stands out to me as particularly strong. AC/DC is definitely a singles band, not an album band in my mind. Three stars for the album as a whole, even though it has a couple of S-tier tracks. If the whole album was as good as Back in Black (my fave track) I'd give it five stars for sure. But it's not, I'm afraid.

Side Two better then Side One. Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long and Rock n Roll Ain't Noise Pollution are the best tracks

It is a huge rock classic, but not a timeless one. This album has had its day of glory, but I think it's time to let it go into the "has been" folder and move on. I give it 3 stars because I must admit that there are insane radio hits in that record.

I'm a bell, ding! Shorter than I thought.

Every now and again I like to rock out on a couple of catchy AC/DC songs, but an entire album? No, thanks.

As noted in my review of Highway to Hell, I'm not an AC/DC fan, but they aren't as terrible as their contemporaries despite being one of the forebearers of hair metal. For the longest time, I was dismissive of Brian Johnson, and while I'm not overall a fan of his voice, I think this is a better album than Highway to Hell. It plays like a greatest hits album, and while I don't like all of these songs, Hells Bells is one of the better AC/DC songs, so it gets some credit for that. This album is gross and dumb, but I don't hate it. I would never put it on of my own volition, and I don't think it should be on this list, but I don't hate it.

My wife hates his voice. I’m not a fan either.

Amazing😻 But my ears are young for this masterpiece 😞

Alright with the music but does not like the voice...

Some bangers, but a bit cheese

I heard hair metal in this outing, and, unlikely as that is to make me friends, it made me like Back in Black. The tunes are straightforward, but there are the bells in the opener, a few novel arrangements, and some skilled guitar work. I'd happily listen to the hits again, as well as the deeper cuts.

It's one of those albums where I've heard every song so much I just don't care to listen again. And Johnson's voice can be really grating after a while.

just ok 3/5

I didn't finish it. But I've heard it all before.

A bit one-note, but the one thing this album does it does well. I did before and still will love the intro to Hell's Bells. That's probably my favorite song on here. My other favorite is probably Shoot to Thrill. I also enjoyed Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, and You Shook Me All Night Long and Back in Black are good when they aren't overplayed.

Small doses. They're fun, but... small doses.

AC/DC are like C average students in the school of rock to me. They understand the assignment well enough to pass but that's about it. I mean, yeah, it's rock and roll and all, their formula works, but I just can't take it seriously. I guess that's not the point, right? Should I just lighten up? The last song on the album says it all: "Rock and Roll is just Rock and Roll" Saying your favorite band was AC/DC to me would be like saying your favorite restaurant was McDonald's. They both make a very reliable product but I absolutely guarantee you can find something 10 times better and more interesting elsewhere.

My first album so still

All together now... DUN! DA-DA-DUN! DA-DA-DUN! Nanana-NOWWW-na-na DUN! It's rock's native language: an instantly recognisable riff, destined to be mimicked by guitarists of all levels everywhere. For better and worse, "Back in Black" paints an instant picture of where rock was at in 1980: filling arenas, bred on excess, bridging into metal, dripping with sex and posturing. In amongst the dozen or so rehashings of the same riffs that have defined AC/DC's career, there are some stunning musical moments and instant classics. The slow build that kicks the album off is genuinely powerful, gradually shifting from a single tolling bell into the ominous riff and steady beat leading "Hells Bells." On the more immediate end of the scale, "Shoot to Thrill" is an adrenaline thrill ride, boasting an addictive chorus and an excellent coda. The same goes for the stand-out "You Shook Me All Night Long", with a ready-made floor filler chorus sounding like a throwback to early 70s glam-rock. I was fascinated (but not all that surprised) to read that the band initially approached Slade's Noddy Holder in the wake of Bon Scott's death- a bizarre alternate reality, but one where he would have certainly risen to the occasion for this track. Brian Johnson fits straight into the band like a glove, perfectly selling their with a voice that manages to be gruff, strangled, screamy... and still find a way to the "melodies" in the songs. But his vocals and the constant bludgeoning of heavy riffs from a Rockschool guitar grade book won't be to everyone's taste, and they aren't completely to mine. Singles aside, many of these songs are distinctly mediocre, deploying the same chugging, mid-tempo, three chord rhythms and tired sexual metaphors. "Givin' the Dog a Bone", "Let Me Put My Love Into You", "Have a Drink on Me"... they're the most tedious kinds of rockstar hedonism. It's plain to see the kind of material Spinal Tap would later lampoon, and even they had a little more nuance than this. Rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young often stated that AC/DC's lyrics are not meant for scrutiny: they were never thought about too much, because they were destined to play second fiddle to the power of the music. This statement is fine in itself and could excuse some of the record's more banal songwriting, but the implication of the music being of great thought and complexity goes against the spirit of this whole record. "Back in Black" is chock-full of three-chord songs, sledgehammer riffs and a pocketful of power-chords. It's as if they learnt a few chords and ran with it, and it's precisely this simplicity that helps it to stick. AC/DC have never strayed from this formula, and of course, Angus Young's lead guitar is accomplished and impressive, their showmanship undeniable. It all comes down to opinion on what makes great songwriting: is AC/DC's unadorned approach lazy or liberating? Doing a lot with a little or just being a lot of a little? For the title track and many of the other songs here, its their simplicity that makes them work so well. They jam themselves into the most prudish of minds, refusing to let go. It's bread and butter hard rock and one generations of rockers will keep going back to. I can appreciate that, even if not all of it is to my taste. As great as a handful of these songs are, personal preference puts this just below a 4* listen: the gulf between the singles and album tracks is not surpassable. Nevertheless, it's made me want to pick up a guitar, crank up the distortion and- just like that- become a rockstar.

Not a fan of the lyrics or the vocals, but I did really enjoy the instrumentals of the album. I can see why this is popular

Boomer metal? I hardly know her metal!

I think I like AC/DC but I can't stop thinking about this tweet: "listening to AC/DC and laughing cause all the songs are like “YEEEEEOW I’m the man who roooocks.” this shit sucks ahahha"

not bad

👍🏋️

It’s still extremely funny to be a die-hard AC/DC fan.

Of course the first one is ACDC... An album almost completely full of bangers, it's just a shame they're being performed by ACDC.

The music was there to party, definitely added some of the songs to one of my workout playlists.

Not the rock out I wanted. The rock out I needed.....

Meh, too straightforward and banging to be intriguing, lame-ass music for people who don't care about music. Pros: legendary riffs and catchy (stupid) lyrics. Didn't listen to the full tho'

Not my taste but pretty classic.

A band so well heard in the last 40 years that it’s become background noise for straight white men round the world

All'epoca, per me queste erano chicche.

If you've listened to classic rock radio for even a little bit you've probably heard about half of this album. The other half you don't need to hear. That said, the classics are classics for a reason.

Actually not bad for a band I used to absolutely hate

His voice is like a screeching guitar. Not really what I want to listen to most of the time. I can see what people like about this, but it’s not for me

It was aite.

The songs I already knew on this album are still pretty great. Hells Bells always gets me hyped up with that intro, and You Shook Me is an instant classic. However, between those hits, nothing especially stood out to me. I think the sound was quite repetitive.

What Do You Do For Money: Vedi sopra, però l'assolo era carino. Let Me Put My Love Into You: Delicatissimo!

i really only like the singles. my unpopular opinion is i liked the singer from the first album

A little underwhelming. I had been a fan of the title track for the longest time, but the rest of the album doesn't quite have that level of quality. It's a nice album, though.

very overplayed in general...solid and well known

The intro to Hells Bells alone is so good

Solid with some outstanding songs but very formulaic so becomes pretty repetitive.

Liked this more than I was expecting to tbh, shoot to thrill was my favorite of the songs I didn't know off the top of my head. dont know how much ill come back to listen but glad I did, strong 3

Goed, maar niet geweldig

It ain’t Bon

A few good songs, but I though there was a lot of "filler" on this album.

Mención especial a Let me put my love into you que está muy cagada.

Jonathans of the world unite

i enjoyed it but it’s not really my style of music but i still liked it i just don’t think i would listen again

Catchy songs all throughout ACDC classics on here One dimensional / safe Pioneered classic rock sound?

It was pretty good. I don't care for the screaming frontman, but I like the high-energy guitar.

I like it about as much as expected. I've heard them so many times as a kid that it almost feel jokey at this point. Still, I was struck by how bizarre it must've been when this first came out as manic as it is.

Some classics, pretty great
