Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Easy listening album. Pleasant enough but not outstanding. Definitely didn't hurt my ears so 3*

Enjoyed this. There were a couple of really good songs.

This Country music is easy to listen to, but it just doesn’t do it for me. Lots of Country songs tell a tale and have a bit of grit to them, however, this is just pleasant background noise.

I feel like this album, compared to some previous ones on here, was definitely more my vibe, happier, calmer. As a first listen, I liked "Love is a wild thing" and "Mother" (I had to hold back tears as I was in public at that one) the best. However, I do feel like it was a little bland in terms of vocals, just didn't see anything special.

It's fine. It's country.....It's fine......Would I go out and try to find this specifically? No.....Do I care if it's on in the background? No.....It's fine.

Started off a 2 but made its way up to strong 3/weak 4 territory. Thought Velvet Elvis was pretty funny.

I think a solid 3.5. I liked it more than I imagined I was going to from the first few songs. Ended strong for me, but not sure I can give it a 4. Not bad though.

This is a country singer doing indie pop. It's pretty good, but gets a bit generic as the album goes on. The first song, Slow Burn is legitimately good.

Not really my speed but great for what it is

I found this pleasant to listen to after a rough week. It usually isn't my kind of thing, but it had a calming coffee-shop vibe to it that kept me listening. Only after looking her up on Wikipedia did I know that this qualified as Country.

It's that kind of album...great production values and a talent with an amazing voice...but just not my thing. I can listen to it but it doesn't speak to me.

It was nice but I’ll probably never listen to it again

Too poppy, too country (not in a nice way) for me. Doesn't feel particularly special or that I needed to listen to this before I die.. Most songs sounded exactly the same. And since this is something I don't enjoy listening to it was mildly excruciating. Saved songs that were slightly better imo? Butterflies, Velvet Elvis

Ikke stor country fan akkurat, men var helt ok Høydepunkt: Oh, What a World Happy & Sad

I would say that the songs in the album as average and no songs really stand out. Not really recommend for 2nd round of listening since i could not even finish in 1st round

favorite tracks - slow burn, high horse, golden hour least favorite tracks - mother, space cowboy this one didn't really connect with me. liked some of the melodies, but some of the slower tracks seemed to drag

I am not really much of a country music fan - in fact I am not a fan at all. But I like this album. It has a singer-songwriter feel and the production seems more Americana than modern country, at least my perception of modern country. And the songs are uniformly strong and well written. I like it and I will continue to listen - another one to add to my current playlist. 3.5 stars

A solid offering of modern country pop. Listenable if not memorable.

great voice and songwriter, but not a fan of the style

I thought it was going to be Alison Krauss / Robert Plant from the first song but then it took a more commercial turn. Pleasant and accomplished but soon became background music. It's what I'd put on if I had dinner party guests from Tennessee (unlikely).

Best Song: Oh, What A World. Love the use of the vocoder. It gives the song this ethereal, progressive feeling that is missing from the rest of the album. A song for breakfast with people you really like. Worst Song: Butterflies. Completely forgettable bubblegum pop. Overall: Mostly quietly pleasant coffee shop music, with a few standouts (e.g., High Horse) that stretch genres a bit. Strangely, this feels like the type of music that is just okay to listen to on recording, but if heard live would make you want to follow her to the ends of the Earth.

Ha! No. Somewhat pleasant but forgettable low three.

I really like Lacey Musgrave's attitude when I hear her speak, the subject matter is bang on for me, but the music is always just a bit too straight and traddy for me to love it. Beautiful voice too. Do I have no soul?

petit Kacey Musgraves après Kollaps pour brouiller les pistes

Not super into country, but I like her sound

This is ok. Some catchy tunes, but dress it up any way you like, you’re still listening to a country pop artist.

Pleasant - especially the first few songs, but then it seemed to fade away a bit

Sigrid vibe. Very poppy and boring, but I like that. High Horse is great! 3 Rainbow is pretty good too

Other than a few moments here and there, I wouldn't have figured this for country music. This was a nice listen. Hints of Allison Kraus and Mindy Smith (not that I'm hugely familiar with them).

That was relaxing and very enjoyable.

Good but overall not an album I'f find myself listening to much. I know this was huge when it came out. I'm just not a country fan. The entire sits on one "zone" for me.

Solid album. Really liked some of the songs despite my dislike of country

Pretty easy listen, she has a strong voice. A twangy pop album and nothing annoyed me, probably won’t go back to it but I got nothing against it. Favourite song was probably High Horse, giddy’up! 3 Stars

I liked it. Its in a country and western tradition, and she has a wonderful voice. Listening to the whole album in one hit, it does feel same though.

Bit too sad for me.

A decent listen, I enjoy her voice, I like her and for the most part the songs are good. I'm not a fan of the Country genre, though this is more of a "hybrid-modern" country sound with electronic beats and at times a bit Shania Twain-esque. Personally, I would prefer to listen to Kacey, on her own, solo acoustic to just hear the songs without the distraction. Overall, this is above average.

Right away with Slow Burn I experienced some pleasing and interesting melodies with nice chord choices. Singer's voice is alright, quite nice really, a very slight bit more of a country twang/trendy pop singer than I normally like, but some moments of pure clear voice are quite moving. Oh What A World, love the accompanying video. Any song about magic and magical things is for me! Rainbow is beautiful in it's simplicity, the lyrics are sweet and the melody takes unexpected turns. On first listen the rest of the album did not stand out in any particular way for me but a few songs were impressive and distinct from current musical trends. 3/5

Taylor Swift-style pop-country. Not bad, except for some of the most banal lyrics ever.

Oye, yo pensé que esto era country, pero es pop, puro y duro. Como tal está bastante bien. No sé si pertenece a la lista, pero me agradó escucharlo.

ps a ver ta bien no?

Fun enough pop record, but ultimately not really my jam.

It's a weird country pop fusion. It was enjoyable. She's no TayTay but she's at least not beck

6/10. Fine, I guess, the songwriting was sometimes rather charming, but idk why I had to listen to this before I died

👩‍🔬🧬🔬Kacey Musgraves constructing the most mid album. 6/10

Good singing voice. Good bop.

Some nice music but not being a big fan of commercial sounding country it is hard for me to judge.

Yeah, good. But I'm not sure it's outstanding. Maybe I'm biased against country music...

Golden Hour is sonically perfect, and the instrumentation pays plenty of homage to historical country music without falling into cliche. It's a forward-looking record, successful in that I think. It's a straightforward project, not at the top of the modern country pack to me but certainly worthy of note.

I hate pop country but for some odd reason and I have no idea but I really like Kacey Musgraves, few other other female country artists too. Anyway some of this get's way too sugary like butterflies which is just awful but most of this is good.

A friend turned me into this album last winter. I find it to be a nice bridge of country and pop, but not of the cookie cutter, saccharine, variety centered around ‘merica, pickups, and ex’s. It blends traditional instrumentation with contemporary beats and sound, song structure, and decent (although sometimes a bit twee) lyrics. It feels like it should be a guilty pleasure, but I don’t feel guilty.

This album surprised me. I thought I was going to hate it. I didn’t. Not bad

Buena voz. Sensación de haber escuchado varios discos del mismo estilo. En ocasiones pop y bailable. Desconocida. Parece prometedora.

Well that was very pretty. Nothing outstanding but made me feel warm inside

Solid pop country. Some of the songs got really overplayed on the radio

Not my type of music, but is OK

I like her voice more than her songs, not real into pop country but her voice is so pleasant.

Not bad but just not my taste. But still better than Lorde

Meh. Very shiny, over-produced, bland lyrics. Pretty good voice though, and not unpleasant to listen to. 3 🌟

A little too sappy and saccharine for my taste but I can understand the appeal. If I don’t think too hard about the corny lyrics I could see myself tapping my foot and nodding serenely along.

Not as terrible as some country albums.

Not a big fan of popular country music, but this was pleasant enough. 3 stars.

Un album pop qui est hien produit et quinsomne bien, . De petites nuances d ecountry au travers. 3.80

Didn’t listen to all but I think I could connect.

Perfectly lovely album and lovely person. But songs are all very similar, so it felt like it dragged on a bit.

I've never felt so indifferent about an album. I didn't think or feel anything about it. Its just a boring 'ok'.

Nice songs, nice singing & nice production. ‘Rainbow’ is a 5⭐️ banger

Like most things in life, the Law of Diminishing Returns tends to show itself eventually, but on some quicker than others. There is no exception here, a very strong first track garners interest, but all subsequent ones seem to play it safe in some kind of holding pattern. Granted, this is not to presume that anything written here would solve such an experience but a solid start quickly devolves into boredom to where maybe thirteen tracks would have done better with nine or ten. The album is a good album, but it starts out with indications of being great. At the time of this review, Kacey Musgraves is a bona fide star in both pop and country, so along comes expectation that this 2018 album would explain her rise. It does, and perhaps since this 1001 project is more a curation of how things age, the inclusion of this album is not heavily contested but it is not without some questioning. However, what this speaks for the future is up for guesses because what Kacey Musgraves did here has been preceded by only a few others and for that she certainly deserves the praise. Overall, Kacey Musgraves is talented and she sounds great. Her music is easy to listen to and she deserves every accolade she has received for her contributions to music. The question is whether or not this was an album to hear before disembarking this life.

Really nice slow country music, lyrics are a little dull tho and it's just missing a bit of oomph

It's a nice listen but mostly nothing too interesting. I was going to give this a 2, but the last three songs were all great so have bumped this up

Good but not great. The songs sounded pretty similar to one another I think.

So pure and easy on the ear after some harsher recent albums on this selecter. Slowed down tempo, but not down-tempo, and better for it. Very enjoyable and reminded me how much I like good quality pop songs / Americana without too much country-fication. Not essential, but very pleasant.

Stealth country. Does what it does pretty well. I probably won't seek it out again, but there's some great songs here.

Some catchy tunes but I just didn’t find it that memorable overall. Maybe biased against my idea of contemporary country tho

This was pretty good

I liked this pretty well, strong Lucinda Williams vibe. In the first half in particular I felt like it really walked a nice line between a solid country foundation with more pop-oriented production. Some of the flip side tipped more into a bland pop sound. Good overall.

Yet another balladist. Nothing new for me.

Hi- Velvet Elvis, High Horse Lo- Space Cowboy I'll admit I was turned off by this being classified as "Country" when it's mostly contemporary with a little light pop/dance thrown in. The album starts off with the decidedly not-country Slow Burn and Lonely Weekend...appropriate titles and fine enough tracks, they both just drag on a bit too long. Butterflies feels a little more succinct, and Mother is just brief... Space Cowboy is the closest thing to "country" here and well...they can keep it; it's filled with cliché country puns, it almost sounds like a parody, but...it isn't and it's not any better for it. Velvet Elvis is fun and a very enjoyable pop anthem...High Horse has a nice beat and showcases Kacey's silky smooth vocal range. The album concludes with Rainbow, a nice singer-piano send off for a pretty good album overall.

Pleasant yet nothing that hasn’t been done before many times over - some good songs though

Beautiful music, album is full of somber tracks, not bad. High Horse is a good song

Like her music…. Velvet Elvis, Wonder Woman

Nice enough, but unoffensive Taylor Swift type country doesn't do it for me

Having never heard of this artist before I can say that I throughly enjoyed this album. Lovely melodies and a great addition to the Western genre. Favourite Track - Lonely Weekend

It's okay

De e cheeeelin

Cutesy country-tinged pop :)

I didn't hate it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Doesn't do much

last track has such OASIS MELODIES

Some nice ditties… lost me with all the cowboy and ranch shit. Not an unpleasant listen!

Wel heel zoetsappig, maar goed voor de ochtend

I've only heard a few tracks from Musgraves prior to this, but I know I like her voice and I would be open to hearing more of her music. There are times when Musgraves reminds me a little of the Weepies, which is a group I also like. Golden Hour is a good album. My favorite tracks were "Slow Burn" and "Mother". The section of the album from "Space Cowboy" to "High Horse" was too pop, and too pop-country for me. The music was okay but the lyrics had a collection of pop-country tropes. The titles of the songs hint at the content I'm describing. I think Musgraves is talented and worth checking out, but not every track is for me. I'll play "Slow Burn" again.

The country vibe makes this a little less accessible to me. I pushed through to the more pop ending which was nice.

Tuneful, bright, twangy, light

Vriendelijke countrypop. Vakkundig maar verder niks aan de hand.

Not my jam, but she is clearly talented.

I did go through a bit of a phase of loving this kind of more poppy country (kick started by a One Tree Hill obsession) and throughout that phase I heavily favoured women's voices. I find a lot of men singing country too bro-ish. So although I've never listened to Kacey Musgraves before, I was brought straight back to that phase and it was a nice feeling. I didn't find her story-telling anywhere near as good as T Swift (I think it's fair to compare those two) and I was disappointed by the Space Cowboy song because it wasn't about space, boo! So I'll go in the middle with a 3.

It was very pleasant and there were some nice songs

This was perfectly pleasant I'd say. Nice country twang music. Didn't massively appeal to me to listen again though

Kind of disappointed, was expecting more..oomph..two decent songs …forgettable album

Taylor Swift clone.

Not bad, but it just didn't work for me dog.

Nice voice. To country

Vertailukohtana tietysti mielen päällä edellisenä arvosteltu hyvinkin riisuttu Cohenin You Want It Darker.

While I listened to a healthy amount of Taylor Swift around a decade ago, I didn't really took her seriously until she stepped into the domain of pop. And recently- wait a second, this isn't a Taylor Swift album? So, okay, this is Kacey Musgraves, a country pop singer and this particular album won the Grammy Awards. This album sounds very Taylor-ish. I could make my Swiftie friends listen to some songs from this and make them believe that this is Taylor covering some unpopular song. But while it does sound generic at some places, it's didn't felt outdated, it actually felt modern, at least for me. But perhaps it's only due to the fact that Musgraves explores a lot of sounds throughout this album. Because of that, most of the songs felt, as they put it, overproduced. But I actually liked it more than Taylor's old country stuff. I especially enjoyed the softer and folksier songs. I don't know much yet about the rest of Musgraves stuff, but I think it'll be good if she explored more of the softer side of her sounds.

Þetta var alveg næs og batnar án efa þegar platan verður kunnuglegri.

Not my style, but was surprised by the first few songs. I caught myself singing to some of them. Voice is crystal clear, maybe a bit too generic for me though. Lyrics are quite simplistic. 2.7/5

the album starts off pretty mellow and kind of boring and i couldn't really vibe to it. the lyrics were very dry in the beginning. the album picks up during the middle and the end is definitely better. Not a bad album, but not a great one.

Modern day poetry & makes me think of my sister ❤

Country. Twang. Sweet. Good guitars.

Meh. Very shiny, over-produced, bland lyrics. Pretty good voice though, and not unpleasant to listen to.

Kind of bland and too poppy. Surprise that this is on this list

Ehhh, she's got a great voice, some tracks were good some just washed over me

If I heard a song here or there it would be fine but a whole album was too much

What a trivial pop album—so generic and forgettable. I've heard similar, uninteresting songs a thousand times. Now I could associate it with a name. But I'd rather just forget that one right away, too. 2/5

It’s still more boring country. Meh

They're not "bad" songs, just very tepid. Every song feels formulaic, and while it may resonate with some, it does nothing for me. Now back to something more exciting, like watching my oatmeal cool...

#1 choice for background music in a professional office setting or mall restaurant.

Starting to think there’s only 200 albums I must here and 800 filler

Listened to this on a camping trip out in the Olympics. It made it a bit more interesting, but on second listen driving home there are a lot of boring duds on this album. Slow Burn and Rainbow are good bookends. 2.3/5 -> 2/5

Not quite as country as I was fearing. Just the most inoffensive, blandest, marketable American pop music targeted for teenage girls one could possibly imagine. But, you know what, the songs really weren't all THAT bad. And for a 2018 album, this somehow made me feel very nostalgic about all the early-00s pop music of this kind that I had to listen to because my family didn't have a computer nor internet yet back then and I had to watch every possible music programme on the telly in hopes of seeing and hearing something decent. So it a surprisingly nice experience in the end. Odd, but nice. I'd want to give it three stars, but let's be honest, all that nonsense above aside, this album is pretty shite and has no reason to be on this list. I can't possibly give it more than two actual stars, but I'll give it a spiritual third star for that lovely little experience I described.

Slightly more bearable than Swift.

It's an easy listen. But easy doesn't always mean good, right? Musgraves' voice is smooth and sweet, but the songs themselves are about as memorable as a dream you can't quite grasp in the morning. There's a slight country twang here, a pop sheen there, but it all blends into this beige musical mural that just kinda... exists? Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Butterflies - Rainbow

It’s a meh for me

Kacey Musgraves An artist I knew of, but never heard much by. The heartfelt opening Slow Burn promised much but we were soon into a sanitised version of C&W where it felt tracks had been pulled from supermarket aisle like one selects a weeks ready meals. A pop one, then a rock one, then one with a dance beat, one with a cool synth sound, one with a 'clever' pun in the lyric and so on. I'm sure Kacey was here somewhere but I couldn't hear her. Each song feeling like the safe, low calorie 'lite' option. An album full of omelettes made with only the whites. There's more genuine emotion and authentic country in a Hannah Montana album Best Track - Slow Burn Worst Track - Space Boy 4/10

Not really my thing, undecided on what genre of music this classifies as - but not much here-

The ultimate shopping-at-Winn-Dixie-ten-minutes-before-closing-on-a-muggy-Tuesday-night-and-this-is-playing-full-blast album 1.5/5.0: Bad

Demasiado empalagoso, me gusta la voz y cómo juegan con los sonidos, hay tal vez dos canciones rescatables las demás me parecieron demasiado

It was ok. Didn't really catch me.

Couldn't finish it, really not my kind of music

When you make music in a genre widely known for its recent reputation of sounding like same-y dogshit… you should PROBABLY try to address that and experiment to break out of that sound. This album played it too safe and not enough was done to remedy that issue. A few good moments but ultimately not a fun listen.

Budget Walmart version of Gillian Welch or Emylou Harris with a Madonna pop twist. Not great

Pretty voice, in an unfortunate genre. Sorry folks, this does not alter my lack of appreciation for country music.

I'm sure I know someone who would love this but its definitely not me. While the first couple of songs could have a had a soul/folk atmosphere that I could enjoy, the rest of it was just low cost Taylor Swift. Not unpleasant to the hears though.

Pretty awful lyrics and listening felt cloying. I could listen again but really don't want to. 1.5.

Easy listening. Good album. Well produced. But I don't find this particularly interesting or original (I guess that was not the aim either). Overall, between 2 and 3 stars. "Space Cowboy", "Oh, what a world" or "Velvet Elvis" caught my attention. I think this is actually more pop than country. At times, it reminded me of Taylor Swift (but in the less interesting songs by Swift, which are still ok by the way).

It's stuff like this that makes people think that they don't like country music.

Faux country album from Ms Musgraves

It's an okay album. It doesn't really change tonally throughout and her voice is very soft on most songs. This is like a lo-fi country pop album. Nothing on here would really make me want to re-listen. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again

Litt fint, mest kjedelig

Musically, this was actually quite solid. At times, I thought it was teetering on being just another ethereal, dreamlike country-pop album. But, I do think there’s a genuinely impressive mix of genres here that helps it stand out and makes it at least worth hearing on that front. Where the album really falls apart is its lyrics. One prime example is the track, Happy & Sad, with the line, “Is there a word for the way that I’m feeling tonight?”. That pretty much sums up the issue plaguing this album. The lyrics are unbelievably dreadful, genuinely suggesting she has a tenuous grasp of the English language. But hey, if her career as a songwriter doesn’t work out, she could always get herself a job as an editor at The Sun.

not my type of music, but really wasn't bad. Like a better Taylor Swift country pop 2.5/5

I had.high hopes for this after track one but my god it is bland. There is just no personality on display. Maybe I’m just not getting it but I don’t hear any evidence of the disco, yacht rock or Kylie that’s mentioned in reviews. Her voice has no character, it’s all been autotuned out. Not feeling this one at all

Unremarkable

Happy little album, if you like that sort of thing, but not powerful enough for me tbh

There's good contemporary country music out there. This ain't it, chief. 🧀🧀

Pretty average album. None of the songs are that bad, but not that great. Standout songs: Lonely Weekend Space Cowboy

Objektivt inte dåligt men subjektivt verkligen inte min grej

Generic pop music. Could have been a prompt.

This is modern country with a pop twist or maybe modern pop with a country twist. It’s far better than what I expect from modern country, but it’s still not really my thing.

The instrumentation and melodies aren’t so bad, they can’t get a bit repetitive though. Her vocals are strange, sometimes she’s got that c o u n t r y d r a w l, other times she sounds like a pop star. The albums not terrible it can get a bit repetitive for the melodies and the singing, the lyrics can be cheesy and boring with cliches.

it actually isn't that bud just not my style

Quite nice, not sure i would revisit however. Enjoyed the melodies and production but the vocals are a bit too clinical for my liking.

Middle of the road country pop. Didn't really bother me, but nothing really stuck while listening to it...

#368 / 1089 Heard before? ❌ Revisit? ❌ Sounds pretty, very polished pop music, but it also sounds like every other pop vocalists music with slight variation. Doesn't do anything for me, would probably let it play in the background if it was on the radio in a car. But would not play this on purpose. She has a nice voice tho. It only occurred to me after reading up on it after writing the above, that it's considered country pop music. Strong 2/5

"Hey this isn't bad, maybe I'll like this one" I initially thought. That feeling left pretty quickly as the album dragged on, it's fine but very genre specific. The mix of bubblegum pop and country feels like music from a live action Disney thing.

Sounds like a super modern country album by a young pretty lady. After reading up on the artist it’s clear that there are things going on in the world that I know nothing about. So many monthly listeners- probably from Texas. It’s pleasant background noise but not something I have any enthusiasm about.

Favorite Song: High Horse

- awful lyrics - Butterflies and High Horse are okay in the right context - not my favorite

Meg. Not as good as I hoped.

How is this here? It’s mainstream contemporary country which doesn’t make it bad but there’s a million albums like this. I suppose as a representative example it’s ok. 1.5 rounded up.

Koja je poenta dosadnog monotonog indie popa sa najblažim vokalnim country twangom ubačenim čisto onako? Ne kontam.

This was really dull! I have no idea why this is in this list.

It's fine, but to me it doesn't seem particularly standout in either the country or folk realms.

Highlights: Velvet Elvis, High Horse I don't know what this airwave slop is doing on a list like this... It was a genuine waste of time and I believe this must be some sort of payola. The songs are extremely monotone and shallow. It just made me angry because I wasted 40 minutes of my life.

Her voice is so girlish sweet. The songs have good but predictable hooks. County music has morphed into something so different from its earlier iterations. Very pop.

It's fine, not really my thing. It's a blend of country and contemporary pop, the country part pulls me but the pop part ruins it for me. It's got this same boring tinge all other contemporary pop albums seem to have. Uninteresting production and some really boring parts. I did find myself enjoying a few songs, so it was far from bad. Just not really my thing.

If it weren’t for her voice and maybe a few lyrics, I wouldn’t classify this is country as all. This is just pop. It doesn’t even have jangly guitars!

Boring. Every song is the same. Does not get 1 because it did not actively hurt my ears.

This is a Victoria Sponge of an album. It’s light, fluffy, and a bit unimaginative.

45 minutes of boring, generic country music. Her voice is nice but every song sounds virtually the same, and some of the lyrics are just bad.

1.9 2x SLC to OAK 3/31. Good voice but not my thing

Okay, didn't resonate with me particularly. A bit too country

I'm definitely being too harsh but I just find this bland, even though it can be quite catchy and has some interesting production moments. What I've also realised is that as long as the music is interesting (even if it's not amazing) I'll find a way to like it, but I don't find this that interesting personally.

this album makes me feel like i’m trapped in the back rooms but it’s just a never ending Marshall’s. it’s not exactly a nightmare, it can even be cozy, but it’s just not that fun. But I understand that that can be a safe and sacred place for some people and that’s okay. She has such a lovely voice man and it’s perfect for the genre. I kind of want to isolate her vocals and just listen to that all day. The pacing of this album feels weird and idk why. The songs sort of blend together in the first half. I somewhat enjoyed Oh, What A World, and of course i really loved Happy & Sad. Velvet Elvis took me out though i didn’t get through the rest.

feel like this one will be divisive rlly thought i would like this more based on how much hype it got in 2018

Meh...

I never would've expected this on here. I like Musgraves's voice, but I think this is due to the fact that I worked at Claire's between 2015-2018, which makes me predisposed to enjoying this kind of music in an almost Stockholm syndrome-like way. Unfortunately, I need more pop in my country to really land, and this album was leaning more in the dentist's office waiting room direction. Not terrible, but I can only stomach these tunes within their context. 2.75.

The first song is nice... some are just soup.

She has a great voice and everything it is just very outside of my usual taste so not so enjoyable

Always wondered where the music for teen dramas came from and now I know

Correcto

Far away from my music. Although I enjoyed a few tracks: - Love is a wild thing - High horses Otherwise too fabricated and generic lyrics for me.

Nice pop album with country flavour but nothing stood out.

I don’t really get why this is so well received. It’s fine. It’s quite pretty in a uninteresting way, like watching the sunrise from a motorway service station

Boring. Also country. 👎

Handwerklich hervorragend aber nichts für mich.

Disco fraquinho, que não desperta interesse.

Pop and country. Great. The songwriting here is pretty damn cheesy. Can't say I'm a huge fan. But, it's sonically really lovely, and she has a pleasant voice. I did really like some songs here, even if I really hated others. Fave tracks: - Slow Burn - Lonely Weekend - Oh, What A World - Love Is A Wild Thing - High Horse - Golden Hour

Review - not bad for a modern country album. The more Americana-y tracks are good but the poppier tracks aren't for me. There's a cover of Slow Burn by Keller Williams which is really good, go listen to that album instead. Rating - 5/10 Need to listen? NO

Some pretty right up the middle country pop. A bit boring overall, but it had catchy moments. There’s a reason I don’t listen to the slower Taylor Swift stuff, and that’s where most of this album landed. It was telling that I kept checking to see how many songs were left because I wanted to listen to something else. Felt like a very long 45 minutes. 4/10 Acceptable

sounds like unseasoned chicken 2/5

It's just kind of boring indie country pop stuff. It's okay I guess. "In Tennessee the sun's going down, in Beijing they're heading out to work" woah. I never considered that. so true.

Worth it for the final song, "Rainbow", which is an awesome piano ballad. The rest didn't stick with me at all, it's generic alt-country with lackluster songwriting and just okay-ish vocals. Not my cup of tea ...

not the biggest fan of hers

(2.5) sounds like the soundtrack to a 2010-2015 mushy american romance film set in a european country that I would watch and then give 3.5 stars to on letterboxd and then see the reviews that say it was the shallowest worst film ever and so i change my rating to 2.5 because the reviews are right and i’m wrong, obviously but secretly i still quite liked the film on a slightly more sane note, i didn’t have any faith in it at all at first but it got better

Well that's 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back... This really reminded me of 'real women vote for trump' How has she got 16m monthly listeners. 1.5 rounded up

I've decided to give this one the benefit of the doubt with a 2 but might change my mind later on... The songs themselves were pleasantly mellow and easy-going, I just had issue with that ol' country twang that still seemed to creep into this comparatively modern album. I'm also of the opinion that some of these lyrics are somewhat brainless and nonsensical in an irritating kind of way - especially in the first song 'slow burn' which I definitely liked the least. Like what is this first verse!!!! Texas is hot, I can be cold Grandma cried when I pierced my nose Good in a glass, good on green Other than that, I enjoyed parts of it but probably not a relisten from me.

The slew of country albums lately has made me more adverse to them. This wasnt yeehaw cowboy country as much but it still had it's moments. The blend of country and pop was kinda weird. 2.5 rounded down

Not really my thing but I can see the appeal. The first few songs I was thinking it would be a lot better stripped down and less pop, but then the best song is Velvet Elvis which is pretty much pop. Butterflies is the other standout, but the rest isn't my jam, and High Horse was just awful

Je sais pas si je réécouterai ça un jour, mais c'était LOIN d'être nul.

I'm partial to a bit of Taylor Swift so I'm open to country pop. Unfortunately I found the pitch of Kacey's Texan twang super irritating so I was unable to emotionally connect with any of the songs. I quite enjoyed some of spacey/ epic production - like on Space Cowboy so a point for that. But then a point deducted for the banality of the lyrics that were laugh out loud in many places - worst offender being Oh What a World.

just really not my thing

Slow Burn - 3/5 Lonely Weekend - 3/5 Butterflies - 3/5 Oh, What a World - 2.5/5 Mother - 2/5 Love is a Wild Thing - 2.5/5 Space Cowboy - 2.5/5 Happy & Sad - 2.5/5 Velvet Elvis - 2/5 Wonder Woman - 2.5/5 High Horse - 3.5/5 Golden Hour - 3.5/5 Rainbow - 2/5 This album isn't bad per se, it's just incredibly generic. Too pop-y of a pop country album. There were very few actual country tracks, and the ones that I liked steered clear of that genre. She's a good singer, but the lyrical composition and production just aren't there for me. Not my cup of tea Overall: 2.5/5 Favorites: High Horse, Golden Hour

This is fine. I’m not sure I needed to listen to this before I died… but it’s clearly a huge record and she’s very popular. Her voice is great but the album is produced within an inch of its life and all sounds a bit bland. Musically not that interesting but a few nice songs on there. I’m reluctant to edge-lord it with a 1 star, so give it a 2 but it’s not far off.

Country, 2018 -> 2

GENERIC, IM SORRY, I DON'T GET IT.

I don’t think I needed to listen to this one before I died

I could have easily gone the rest of my life without hearing this generic album.

Painful - first album I didn't finish

The most milktoast thing this side of Taylor Swift.

unexciting generic guitar singer songwriter

Perfectly mediocre. loses a star for being overly generic

The opening track is actually decent “Slow Burn”, the rest I lump in with the rest of bad modern country music.

Not a fan of country

More like 'Golden Shower'! It's a massive "NO" from me... Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ❌️ in part Revisit ❌️ Pointless ★★☆☆☆ (3/10)

Meh, modern country but a bit better, def not my cup of tea

No standouts

Generic country pop from another Taylor Swift clone. This is safe, bland and forgettable. Even 24 hours later, I couldn’t hum one of the songs, but I remember not hating it. It’s was too boring to remember. She should be called Kacey Meh-sgraves!

Country rubbish

I love Slow Burn but the rest of the album is too repetitive for me and lovey dovey/sad girl.

What the pop country fuck is this doing here? Let's see, better artists that scratch the Kacey Musgraves itch (like an STD) but are significantly better and far more deserving of a spot on the list: Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood. I don't even like country and I did that off the top of my head. Influence 1. Hits 2. Quality 2. Intangibles 1. Pop country might be the worst country 1.

Feels very..average.

Not my jam

Best Track - "Space Cowboy"

it's alright for what it is but rly not my thing

Bore off mate

Sounds like Taylor Swift. Maybe a little less poppy and sung a little better. But still, it's a boring sound for me.

Listened. Mellow country pop. Pleasant voice, but I was left feeling dulled by the experience. Could be a mood mismatch.

Only prior knowledge of Kacey Musgraves is the fantastic Zach Bryan tune "I Remember Everything". I knew walking in that Kacey has a fantastic voice so my expectations were reasonably high. And a great voice she has, but that's where the praise largely finishes. The album admittedly starts out strong with Slow Burn. It's followed by Lady Antebellum/early Taylor Swift regens that didn't grab my attention as much as I was hoping. The album largely continues in this mushy country pop nature. Despite her great vocals (which I have no doubt could make great country music), this album just wasn't that interesting to me. Also confirmed for me that I very much fall on the country-folk side of the fence rather than the radio-friendly country pop. Not offensively bad by any means but just not something I'll be revisiting. 4/10 Favourite: Slow Burn, Least Favourite: Lonely Weekend

Medium pop

Contemporary country definitely isn't my thing. I actually recognized one of the songs from the album though! It wasn't absolutely terrible, but definitely won't be revisiting. Did a couple of interesting things musically here and there. Lyrics were generic and god-awful throughout -> "I'm not wonder woman, I can't lasso the truth out of you". 2/5

A bit immature and twangee. Not for me.

Kacey Musgraves seems to have a box for her music: inoffensive lyrics with the occasionally clever or occasionally clumsy twist; inoffensive backing tracks with never a surprise or an interesting musical twist; nice vocals which risk nothing, etc. It adds up to a boring album.

Pap. Absolutely nothing original or exceptional about it. Her debut album is MUCH better.

You And Your High Horse. 1001 Albums Generator 149 (10/28/2025) If I wanted to listen to an album where nothing happens, I would throw on John Cage's 4'33". Golden Hour is a boring piece of pop "country" that just completely fails to stand out in any way. High Horse is fun and the title track is okay, while the opener Slow Burn has hints of Sufjan inspiration, which is great. However, I really wanted more from this album, since I get excited to see newer albums on a list like this, hoping to find the artists of today that are making music worth hearing. When it comes to Ms. Musgraves, it feels like I'm missing something. 1.5/5, rounded up to a 2 because it wasn't necessarily unpleasant in any way. Favs: Slow Burn High Horse Golden Hour Least Fav: Love Is A Wild Thing

country album from a young woman who recently got engaged. floaty and pleasant, according to wikipedia this has influences from disco, yacht rock, electronica? i don't know, that's what it says but i can't hear it at all. i'm sorry, it's not for me. straight up. i don't like country a lot of the time. this music is uninteresting to me, there's nothing special when it comes to vocal or instrumental variety, a lot of the songs are about love... it's just nothing. i'm not hooked. i don't know how this album is significant.

MAGA brain rot music

Not a must hear!

Ugh, country pop is the worst. These songs are so generic and unmemorable. It's not horrible, but there are so many other albums that aren't this drab and joyless.

Nada interesante

Genuinely surprised to see an album made after the early 2000's. It's unfortunate that they didn't choose a better one.

It’s not bad but everything sounds the same.

It was fine, I guess? Melodically it was easy listening. Breezy country-pop with a few frills but nothing that seemed especially interesting. Lyrically it was drab. I didn't find much that jumped out to me on listen number 1, and more regularly I felt it was quite basic and lacking in emotional heft. I don't know, I didn't hate it. It was a decent enough album to listen to on a drive, I just don't think it will get any replay value from me.

Acceptable countryish pop music. I found it fairly bland.

Oh please. Nobody has to hear this paint by numbers country pop before they die, unless you happen to be a teenage girl with terminal cancer. Some songs are well written (probably with major input from established songwriters) but it’s just bang average pop fayre.

Did not like this one. A couple cute songs but it all felt so insincere. Mall crawler music. Denver Colorado cowboy outfit music. Not good.

I tried to like this but just couldn’t really. It just didn’t really do anything of note and by the end felt like it was just dragging to its inevitable conclusion.

Kacey Meh-graves. There’s some nice elements of indie, soft rock, disco and electronica but it is all delectably swished into a basically yucky corny girly country pop album. Not even a golden minute on this. Worst Cowboy Bebop episode ever because tracks like Space Cowboy I will not wanting to be ‘seeing again’.

What a beautiful album cover. Oh shit is this country? Yeah sorry. 2 stars.

This is alright but not really my kind of music

First third of the album I was into. I just can't do 30-40min of this type of music in one go.

Temu Taylor Swift completely over-produced vocals highlight dead plain lyrics

Perfectly pleasant and listenable, but also completely inessential for me

Can’t get past the 3rd song

Reminds me of saccharine coffee shop fare from the late 1990s. It's fine, but I'm not understanding how it won all these awards.

I found it very boring.

I’ve always enjoyed Slow Burn, but as a whole this type of country pop just isn’t very appealing to me

I like this one. Slow Burn sounds like a Sufjan Stevens song. …actually, there’s a bunch of stinkers in the middle. It's not as good as Madvillainy.

Not 4 mee

High end modern female country, just not my style

Slightly better then the garbage country today. But I still don't like it at all

She's good, but I had to turn it off part way because it was making me sad.

Pop country is definitely not in my wheelhouse. I didn't hate this album, as much as I found it kind of boring. She's arguably a great vocalist, but I just don't like the style.

Middle of the road.

Man, they really letting anything through on this list, huh…

This album is like an endurance test of all my least favorite music cliches. First off, I cannot stand country music, I know this is barely country, but that accent and style of singing just gets right under my skin. Secondly, I just find pop music that leans more towards singer-songwriter to be some of the most boring music out there. Ok so, this album isn't unlistenable, but I find it incredibly tedious and repetitive. As soon as a new song would start I would immediately forget whatever played before. There was a lot of really good music released in these past 10 years, but apparently whoever picked these albums hasn't heard them. All of the albums that were picked for the 2010's are always whatever won some award, and they are always the most boring, inoffensive, opposite of boundary pushing album ever. Low 2.

Í can hop over this one

Not my cup of tea

Another decent album that not my cup of tea. Too popish and indie. Its like the formula for making decent songs. 2 songs were really good all others are average

A few years ago I would have dismissed this album immediately. Traditional American Country Music does nothing for me at all. But Taylor Swift has educated me not to be so rash. Listened and gave this album a chance in hope, considering it was on this list at all, that it would appeal to my inner Swifty. Pleasant enough I suppose but not deep or meaningful like you get from Taylor Swift. 2/5 18/7/25

I don't ever listen to country music, so have little to compare this to. Nothing here interests me, it's poppy and bland. Not unpleasant, but feels so contrived.

Not for me, sounds like generic pop country nonsense

Bland. Kinda reminds me of early Taylor Swift.

To me it's just your everyday love/break-up album with cliché text

I saw this pop up on a list of best albums to get high to on 420 and still don’t understand why.

Inoffensive I guess. The kind of thing I'd expect to hear at Barnes & Noble. Bring on Napalm Death! 2/5 #117

This is dull as can be. 100% should not be on the list unless the list is saying "let's find an example of everything music can do". This has the depth of Starbucks. Man, this is so generic it finished and I didn't even notice it had moved to shuffle similar music and had gone through four other artists. All five of them sounded the same in every way.

These lyrics are doing nothing and the music sounds like a Sears catalog. No idea why this is something special. It is fine. Franchise coffee shop music.

this wasn’t very special, is was decent but i don’t feel it adds much to anything in the genre, i won’t be going back to it

Not for me, almost every song sounded the same. A really boring album

I get why it deviates from normal country but also feels extremely dated for 2018 and this convinced me that country music is like 20 years behind the times culturally, and also that it's very easy to get a Grammy if you're a country musician. This feels like Miley Cyrus meets Death Cab For Cutie and I mean that in the most derogatory way possible. Sounds like Radio Disney music from 2005. I truly don't get it. It's not as bad as Taylor Swift but I still don't like it.

Is this country music in disguise?

Terrible

Vapidity perfected

Yay! A modern album, I'll enjoy listening to ... Oh, hang on, it's country. Or is it pop?

I'm confused with this entry, as there's no reference in the 1001 book or even the ex-1001 list. So I'm unsure why it's on this website. 🤷 As for the album, it invokes the same feeling as when my daughter puts Taylor Swift on in the car, it's bearable, but can we change the CD yet?

Zensko country pevanje tra la la

2/5 I was uninspired by this record lyrically and thought it lacked creative exploration. The songs to their core had solid structures with well written melodies. Not a bad record, just not a very interesting one. Top 3 Songs: Slow Burn Butterflies Golden Hour
