Favorite Track: Reconsider Baby

4 estrelas

Favourite tracks: make me know it; fever; dirty dirty feeling; like a baby; reconsider baby

Elvis Pursley

He's a very good singer. The songs are good enough, musically (and short). The lyrics are merely adequate.

One of Elvis’s best albums, shows his versatility as a singer with a varied collection of genres and styles. It’s crazy this was marked as a comeback, given his time in the military, his career had only just started 4 or 5 years earlier. It’s definitely more mature than his first few albums, but still has that unerringly crisp youthful sound throughout. Such a Night is probably my all time favorite Elvis song. Great album from a man with immense talent.

I gotta say, Elvis always has a way of slipping little surprises into his records. Fever is a delight, as well as evidence the man could really sing. Don’t need to be the target demographic to be impressed. Flawless performance and production. Clearly influential. 4/5

Look, this could be pretty much any elvis content and it's getting high marks. He's the king.

Elvis is Back! is the fourth studio album from Elvis, and the first after his stint in the Army. This album does not include any of his popular hits, and was not commercially successful. In addition, the critical reception was mixed. Over time, the consensus regarding Elvis is Back! has improved considerably, and some have come to regard this as Elvis' best album. This is an interesting collection of songs of a surprising range of styles. The tracks show the range of Elvis' voice, and his ability to create country, blues, rockabilly and even gospel.

Really fun

I’m back baby! A solid 4 for my return. Decent stuff from the big man. Some killer a little bit of filler, pretty much bang on half an hour. No complaints. Simpsons: Yes

Pure and fun and excellent and totally authentic seeming. One wishes it could all be so simple and powerful – without all the posing (yes, even though Elvis obviously wanted to be a big star). And funny how what was once radical and youth-corrupting and a harbinger of the of end of Western Civilization (or at least Christianity) can sound sound tame and wholesome.

He's bloody back. I hadn't heard of any of these tunes but this is such a slick album. He really plays to his strengths while trying new things. I liked it a lot! Best Track: I've Got a Dirty Dirty Feeling Worst Track: Reconsider Baby

Elvis always surprises me. I know the whole old cult status thing that still crops up now and then and how he was a real icon of the heyday of rock-n-roll and all that, but ... I don't typically listen to Elvis by default or really "know" his catalog. Yet this is the second album I have heard on this site and both times been boggled by his range, depth, and actual legit crooner/ entertainer level. He IS the real deal and I hope newer generations keep him in the loop.

Never a self declared Elvis fan so I wasn't overly thrilled when this album popped up but thought I might aswell have a listen. It was actually quite good. Conveyed that simplicity that was so much a part of late 50's, early 60's music. Obviously Elvis is a Global phenomenon so my opinion doesn't really feature in the grand scheme of things. I can see why he was , and remains popular. Glad I listened and cannot give this a low rating

Mature Elvis. Fantastic singing, fantastic playing. Songs maybe not quite so memorable. Although his version of Fever seems almost as well known as Peggy Lee's.

East listening with catchy songs - liked it

hard not to love it

Lekker album, veel goede nummers en af en toe swingt het de pan uit

Big one.

Very surprised by how good the recording sounds on this. It has aged very well in that aspect. What hasn’t aged well are some of the lyrics (chaining women to your wall is not appropriate, Mr. Presley).

Undeniably amazing voice, but slightly more mature than the rock n roll from the 50s. And he's got the musicians to back him up — Scotty Moore is one of the criminally underrated guitar players of music history.

A very entertaining listen. A nice menagerie of fun, upbeat, swooning, and sexy that kept everything on the album moving. I usually prefer longer songs, but every track is short and succinct and nothing overstays it's welcome. Not every song was great, but all were generally enjoyable. Top tracks: Fever, I Will Be Home Again, Soldier Boy

Album 423 of 1001 Elvis Presley - Elvis Is Back Rating : 3.5 / 5 Big Elvis fans won't agree but I just don't think this is great Elvis. It is enjoyable because it is Elvis but that is pretty much where it ends for me.

It felt good to listen to this in the same week that the news story dropped about the fraudulent loan company that got busted for their attempt to auction off Graceland. Elvis is a bit of a punching bag these days; I get it, there's a lot of tragi-comic gold to mine from his life. Listening to his albums is a good reminder of the talent and charisma that made him one of the first megastars. He covers a variety of genres on this album, and I hadn't heard any of these songs before. It was a delight to listen to.

very cool 👍

This one grew on me as it went on and I ended up wanting to sing along and had to restrain myself due to the lateness of the hour. Just over 30 minutes is perfect and I ended up doing a bit of reading about Elvis and The Colonel too

8.5/10

I’m not a big Elvis fan, but I did enjoy this album. It’s upbeat and energetic. He sounds great. It alternates between dancing and love songs. I probably wouldn’t listen again, but for what it was, I did enjoy it.

Mostly made up of Elvis song's I haven't heard, with the exception of Fever. Fever and Dirty, Dirty Feeling are the standouts for me. DDF has that harder rockabilly edge that was pretty interesting compared to the other ballads.

Good, but not great. Really a 3.5, but I’ll give half a point because Elvis’s vocals are more mature or because of the saxophones. Probably the saxophones.

Not exactly the Elvis sound I am familiar with, but some interesting vocals and instrumentation. 3.5 rounds to 4.

Good to hear a proper Elvis album. This was recorded, I believe, post-army and there are some wonderful blues tracks on it, Elvis almost going back to grass roots. Really like it.

Classic Elvis. While I wouldn't listen to this regularly, this shows his range and talent.

Upbeat, fun and catchy. Whilst I don’t love Elvis, it’s hard to not like the artist

Super easy to listen to this album. Elvis’s voice is so recognizable and enjoyable. Don’t know if I just rated that this album was on 31 minutes or the fact that none of the songs went over 3 mins each but rest vibed that. Would listen again.

I knew he wasn't dead.

The opener sounds like what I want classic Elvis to be. After that, more poignant than I expected, from the slow burn of Fever to the melancholic harmonies on The Girl of My Best Friend. There's some very bluesy tracks I didn't enjoy as much, but I did like the piano driven ballad Thrill of Your Love. Other highlights: Soldier Boy, Such a Night. Yes, this is a good album.

He's got a voice on him - some lovely covers.

The year is 1960. Rock and roll had largely retreated from the public eye after a ceaseless run of trouble and tragedy and was thus regrouping. The kids that had been thoroughly transformed by the initial explosion were toiling underground and abroad, putting their own spin on what their heroes did. And one of those heroes, finished with a stint in obligatory military service, was returning to a scene that had changed in his absence. Elvis Presley was back. While his first outings captured a kid on the cusp of changing history, Elvis is Back! documents the movements of a changed man, with an understanding of structure, poise and presence and how to wield it to satisfaction. The songs may not rock as much as before yet they've got enough charm and charisma to forgive the lack of earthquake appeal. Elvis is Back!, bold title and all, is a solid enough return from rock and roll's erstwhile troublemaker, bringing about hope that had yet to be flushed out by the beckoning of Hollywood and the diminishing returns along the way. Welcome back, Elvis. Favorites: Make Me Know It, Fever, The Girl of My Best Friend, I Will Be Home Again, Dirty, Dirty Feeling, Soldier Boy, Such a Night, The Girl Next Door Went a Walking.

it’s Elvis so it’s golden but they really tried to crush him with the material and the arrangements and it was going to get worse before it got better

Gotta love the King. Listening to this put me in a good mood.

Love Elvis

Always enjoyed Elvis. Really good album from him

Un disco con mucho swing. Tremendas baladas que te sumergen directamente a esa época.

Ey, nada mal, se pasa en un suspiro. 3.5 alto, 4.

Elvis after the army. Increased vocal range.

Big improvement over his first album!

I enjoyed this. I was already familiar with Fever, but the album is good overall. There's a good mix of upbeat and slower songs.

I liked all of these songs. They were great to listen to. Because it was so short, I listened to it a handful of times and it didn’t lose any of its flavor. 8/10

This is a weird one. It's good for sure but there aren't any tracks that standout to me. Just a really consistent sound through the album but nothing amazing. At the same time I would have no issue listening to this again. 7/10

I have never listened to an Elvis album front to back, only singles. Had a decent amount of variety while keeping a tonally equal sound. I thought it was funny when he kept making them restart the song on “Such a night”, also my favorite song off the album. The songs were short and sweet which I really appreciated. Really solid album with no songs I have ever heard from The King. 8/10

I always love Elvis. That being said, there are better.

Two is a row from 1960. This one was so much better than Joan Baez! I thought I knew a lot of Elvis. Never heard of any of these songs (by him). Overall the album is fun to listen to. It still has more of the 1950s Doo Wop sound, than any 1960s sound.... Brilliant? Nah. Just good fun, and sometimes that's good enough. Standouts: Fever. The Girl is My Best Friend, Dirty Dirty Feeling, Soldier Boy, Such a Night,

Great stuff. More of an old school R&B vibe than I was expecting.

Thank you

Elvis is a rock n' roll classic. Texts are love love and love. Nothing against it though. Was an enjoyable listen and I'll start looking into Elvis a little more now. 8/10

Hip swiven’ body wiggling panty dropping classic Elvis.

Very fun and upbeat album. Never listened to it before. May have heard a few on like a greatest hits or oldies station.

I absolutely love the sound of the guitar in this era of rock ‘n roll. Elvis’ voice is smooth as butter and every song is enjoyable. Solid 4.

I’ve had a few Elvis albums before this one, and I have to say that this is a nice departure from his early achy-heart rock. This is soulful and swinging, and it has some more complex constructions, which spark intrigue. All while containing that classic Elvis quiver and shake. The songs are unique and thoughtful.

Not bad, i expected this to be bad

His voice sounds amazing on this album. Sweet and vulnerable at times, while growling and (wonderfully) dangerous at others. Wish he had gone further in his career singing blues tunes…Reconsider Baby is one of his best

Elvis, chill and quiet. Kitsch

I like Elvis, consistently good if not great albums on this list. 7.5/10

Is the album following his return from his military service, a turning point in his carrer, but in a wrong way, at least at his popularity level, because his would be faucusing on his acting carrer and most of the albums he would be release will be soundtrack. Apparantly this album wasn,t a commercial sucess but it was a critical one. Songs that catch my attention more than the other are: Make me know it (very rock n roll and energetic), the more rnb Fever, i will be home again, dirty feeling and the pianoesque Soldier Boy. Clearly this album is techniclay and musically superior to most of his predecessor form the 50's, but his fame was declining at the time so it dosen't have the sucess of his previous release but its a good reccord. It is still some Elvis, nothing very shocking and new but a bit better i enjoy it.

Strong start, super pop-y, very doo-wopy. I liked this more than I thought I world but the song writing is pretty rudimentary. Repeats: make me know it,I will be home again, the girl next door Skips: such a night, it feels so right

I think I can call myself an Elvis fan. At least to his rock and roll style. This album is a fun listen. I've said this before in my last Elvis review, his voice is fantastic and versatile. Often times, he sings not in his low register, that he is more known for, and it doesn't sound like the stereotypical Elvis that one would think of. But it's great! I could be wrong, but I think Elvis became a symbol in music and he almost had to play the part as the King of Rock. But I truly think he is more than just that. I mean, you can hear it in the country, and even gospel music he sang. But he's even beyond that. It's too bad because even as big as he was... I mean, he may have been the first Rock Star, I still think the had more to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed this record. And will most likely hear it again, and other Elvis as my father in law is a big Elvis fan.

Didn't like the first track as much.. it got better fever onwards. I love the emotion in his voice.

I’ve never listened to an entire Elvis album. I can see why he was such a hit. Very catchy pop rock

The complete and total embodiment of late 50s early 60s American Rock N Roll. Elvis was the king for a reason.

Loved it

it was cool

This is a solid representation of Elvis's range but this album doesn't included any of his truly great and most iconic songs. I've always loved his car very of Feaver, however.

This is a great album! Other than an Elvis Christmas album, this is the first full record I've heard of his. The selection of songs seem to showcase and complement the range of his voice and musical styles—poodle dress rock and roll, a pop-like chorus-heavy number (my least favorite but still good), and a blues heavy, Reconsider Baby—one of my favorites on the record. The recording and mastering on this is really good, too. In Such a Night and Reconsider Baby, I can almost feel the spittle coming through the reed in that sax, and the staging makes me feel like I'm right there with the band in a small, intimate venue. And the atmosphere of Fever is dare I say, neigh perfect. It's albums like this that make me think: 1. It's incredible to think that in thousands of years, people may still be able to hear this music so clearly as it might be live, and 2. This is why crappy engineering on a professional recording a decade later is so annoying—there's a night and day difference in the dynamic range in this album than Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Another very well recorded album. Fever was my favorite track and I felt like I was in the room with them. I never really questioned the popularity of Elvis, but this really helped me to understand it better.

Amazing album. Great return. “Such a Night” is an absolute favorite.

Strong 4, Weak 5-started off great, but the last couple of songs dropped off in quality

Elvis er pretty good

If anything, this journey has helped me realize Elvis is pretty damn cool, flaws and all.

This is about as lame as Elvis gets but it's impossible for me to hate classic doo-wop music like this. There aren't any iconic elvis songs on this and it's not as interesting as the 50s or 70s stuff but its still a good listen even if every song except fever blends into one another (and fever is one of the bad kinds of covers that sounds basically like the original). He might've just been a white guy singing black music but he did it really really well.

In this, his first post-Army album, and back again with the Blue Moon Boys (most of them) Elvis shows that, away from the mawkish films, he was still a potent force. There's some great stuff on this album: 'Fever', 'Make Me Know It' and 'Soldier Boy' are some of the standout tracks, each showcasing a different aspect of the phenomenon that was 1950s/early 1960s Elvis.

Elvis is not my go-to artist, but this album worked surprisingly well for me - some nice Rock'n'Roll songs, coupled with a handful of ballads is ideal background listening. 4/5

- Elvis is the best - A little slower than the last album but its a great vibe - No complaints

Prob a 3.5 will rate up because elvis

You know what, I'm into it

This is semi-influenced by the latest string of albums I’ve been slogging through, but it’s a reasonable length AND he can sing?? Such a pleasure to listen to.

These bitches love Elvis

Solid and it was a quick, satisfying listen.

Fever is incredible, and Such a Night is still so incredible. Like a Baby and Reconsider Baby absolutely carry that entire blues vibe all the way through. Dirty Dirty Feeling had some problematic moments that wouldn't hold up these days, but damn, it's still a hell of an album. Impossible to listen to Such A Night with out bobbing your head.

Cet album est un délice à écouter, les arrangements sensuels, la voix du King, inimitable mais pas caricaturale, le rythme dansant.

Only got one listen through with this one but every song was good and really well played. I think the highlight of this album is how tight the band and Elvis were as a group. All the solos and instrumentals were incredibly clean and Elvis’s voice was also on point in all the different styles. 👍: make me know it, dirty feeling, fever

Pretty good album, I know this one wasn’t for everyone but Elvis has some sentimental value to me. I liked a lot of the tracks of the album, especially Fever. I love all the vocals too, from Elvis’s vibrato to the background baritones

Jeg skjønner godt at Elvis var/er populær. Meget behagelig stemme! Passer bedre til rolig middag enn dans, men det er ikke en dårlig ting.

Such a powerful voice. It's the voice alone that gets the album this rating, in my view.

Typical music for the time but overall pleasant and tasteful.

This used to be my favourite Elvis Presley studio album, and it is still excellent, but From Elvis in Memphis, a 1001 album generated a year ago or so, is better. I had forgotten how much "E is Back!" sounds like a typical 50s album until I realized it was released in 1960 already. Four stars

Hollywood Elvis is different from the debut album Elvis. This is more in line with a Sinatra album, he’s still a compelling performer.

Good ole Elvis...never disaapoints.

The king is back! Elvis will always get a 4 or a 5 from me. “The girl of my best friend” was probably my favourite song.

Always a commanding voice and the production is perfect. Other than fever though, it fails to provide anything innovative when looking at what was evolving at the time in music.

That was quite fun

I can listen to fever 10 times in a row and the rest is also not bad

Something very soothing about these old, friendly records. Nothing groundbreaking is happening (at least not from our 2023 point of view) but it's just very comfortable to listen too. Like and old comfy sweater. Great stuff.

A solid album with some solid performances.

I think I should get to know Elvis's music better. It's nice to listen to, unfortunately easily gets repetitive. I love his voice and charisma.

Elvis.

Excellent showcase of what made Elvis a legend.

Se mantiene interesante y entretenido todo el tiempo, me gustan los instrumentos reconocibles y simples y las melodías vocales con los coros que a veces contrastan y se escuchan en un lugar completamente distinto a la voz

Very enjoyable and dance-y. Elvis vocals are a revelation to me! Short, sweet songs with a few diverse ones thrown in as well. Great fun!

Some great stuff on this album

Nice voice

This was some solid Elvis. That fever cover did it for me.

What a heartthrob… this was a bunch of fun.

Kept looking for reasons to not be impressed. But I did not find them.

mucha variedad, fever very ahead of its time

This was personally my favorite Elvis time. I really like the big band/doo-wop/folk that Elvis put out, and this album is pretty much just that. Not much more to say other than expect that style of Elvis songs. Favorite track: I Will Be Home Again

Started out strong and then ran a little dry. The songs on their own are all pretty decent but having them back to back to back on an album really overdoes the doo-wop sound a bit. Overall I still did enjoy it though. 7/10

Come for Elvis' voice, stay for the song selection. Maybe not as strong as some of his other albums in that department, but it's still an enjoyable, fun listen. I don't mind that Elvis doesn't write his own music; his voice is strong enough to carry other peoples' songs for an entire album.

Very nice

Elvis did his army duty and then had a nice lil comeback, much like the K-pop stars of today.

Solid and enjoyable throughout. Upbeat music from Elvis with the classic Such a Night.

He's good isn't he

Surprisingly good. I have a weak spot for all these 50's-60's generic pop blues sound and Elvis managed to hit it in here, despite the usual lack of singles.

Prime Elvis.

Elvis is really consistent in quality. I don't know if it is my fave album by him, but God damn does he nail a sound and keep it sturdy.

Básico para relembrar.

This is the most Elvis sounding Elvis album I've heard. You can really how those early 60s British artists were ripping this off (which Elvis was ripping off from black artists). The harmonies are also super tight and sound fantastic.

even if you don't like this you kind of have to like it

Elvis at his finest.

This album was alright. Maybe a little boring, but I still enjoyed it. It's funny that I got a little sick of every song being about romance, because I usually don't mind that. Anyway, not bad. Elvis might just not be quite up my alley. My favourite song was Dirty, Dirty Feeling.

It’s just so pretty and fun. Elvis’ voice is deep and beautiful, the production is crystal clear. Most of the songs are rather simple tunes that make you want to drop everything and dance. Then by the end of the album it goes a bit more bluesy which is a bit of a surprise but a nice one. My favourite track is The Girl of My Best Friend - his voice on this makes me swoon and I’m a 30yo straight guy. I also love the Fever cover especially the sparse drumming.

Classic Elvis

Great album, just before he got roped into all the bad movie soundtracks

Aww, is this my first Elvis? Looking forward to more. Sexy music. Yes, I'm walking around trying to sing Fever Elvis style. It's just great isn't it?

You either like Elvis or you don’t I can’t changer your mind

This was a pleasant surprise. Really clean musicianship and a great bunch of songs with heaps of character to 'em.

Elvis is the meat in this sandwich, but you don't get a good sandwich without good bread and that's where The Jordanaires and the Nashville A-Team come in and make this an amazing album. Presley's vocals are good and he's at his peak here. Why? Because this is the music he wanted to make. He's having fun with his friends and making some great rock and roll and country music. If Elvis was able to make more of this music and less of the Colonel's shit that he was forced to do, he could've kept going instead of meeting the fate he did. 4/5.

I really dig it

First time actually listening to an Elvis album. Great stuff.

Not a huge Elvis fan, but really great album. Makes me want to dive deeper into the king

I was surprised (though I shouldn’t have been) by how much I loved this album. I couldn’t decide between Fever and It Feels So Right as my favorite song!

can't say much since i wasn't born when this came out lol but it has that old school vibes i like so much (sorry my description isn't as accurate)

the songs on this album are unfamiliar to me. That said, the album was fun to listen to. I liked his version of feverl

J'ai adoré cet album d'Elvis et ce malgré les récentes découvertes faites à son sujet par le biais de Seb la Frite.

I guess she did alright 🙄

I have a lot of respect for Elvis, but I can't say that I'm a big fan. This is really fun to listen to, but I feel no real connection to his music. It's more like something I will enjoy hearing as background music than an artist that I will obsess over. But yeah, this is pretty good and this is freakin' Elvis so I can't give him less than 4 stars.

Classic Elvis, remind me of my grand-parents and put me in a good nostalgic mood.

A beautiful representation of what Elvis can be apart from his big big hits. The song "Fever" is one of my favorite interpretations of the King. And as always, a flawless voice with his unique mood. Amongst his best albums for sure.

I must just be an Elvis fan, cuz everything I hear from him I like. Including this!

Actually not too bad for doo wop music Not my genre of choice but pretty good Aren't you legally obligated to like Elvis because Memphis? Didn't realize Doo Wop music actually said Doo Wop

Blues patterns revisited, amazing clean singing by the king. Different timbers and styles, slow or fast - everything's on point. Song selection not too versatile, some too similar songs.. but it's 1960. Better singer than anyone else at that time.

While there are not hits on it this album helps to show us why Elvis was called the King of Rock and Roll. His singing is effortless across all of the styles we find on this album. He can do blues, rock, soul, country and jazz (if fever counts as jazz). The final track was my favorite.

This album sees a recently returned Elvis back in the studio after a stint in the army. From his first album, this album is clearly an improvement. His voice is more assured and it is better developed. His rendition of 'Fever' particularly showcases his delicacy and control. Elvis is just not an album artist though and this album contains a lot of filler though the production is clean.

A classic, easy listening, nice reminder of when we visited the RCA studios one holiday

I was tempted to just leave my review at “It’s Elvis". Even at his lowest ebb (and this is far from that) he still has that voice, that spark, that…thing. This is a pretty good set of pop rock and roll songs of the time, and the backing is stripped back enough to really showcase the man himself. Not his best, but certainly not his worst , this is where he was perhaps starting to fit into the style of the time, rather than blazing his own trail. Such A Night is the standout here for me, but I love it all. It’s Elvis, after all.

4 stars because he's a legend

This album sounds great! Elvis sounds great, and so do the rest of the musicians, as does the stereo sound. These are not his famous songs, but it's incredibly Elvisy in such a good way that I would play it to show why people liked Elvis so much.

Smoldering, sultry, raucous, and swaying back and forth between soulful and playful. The album covers a ton of ground (Rock - 'Dirty, Dirty Feeling', Do-Wop - 'Solider Boy', Soul - 'It Feels So Right', and even Blues - 'Reconsider Baby') and every single track is firmly footed in a pop sensibility. The one track I just can't shake though is 'Fever'. Elvis' performance is breathless and breathtaking. The solitary upright bass, surrounded by the ghosts of reverbed vocals and snaps, keep this barely tethered song from flying off. Bursts of bongo fills accentuate the creeping ambiance. It's haunting and seductive. All-up the album was considerably more enjoyable than I was expecting, made great by exemplary performances by Elvis, the Blue Moon Boys, and all of the supporting vocalists and artists. Shout out to the bass vocalist especially.

Not as amazing as the last Elvis album on the list, but still solid

was surprised how much I liked this album.

Who doesn’t love vintage Elvis (or really, any Elvis). His sound is upbeat and energy is always there. His vocals are excellent as expected.

My dream is to be one of those background singers with an incredibly deep voice

Elvis is BACk!!!

Elvis is BACK! What it do, baby!

Elvis = Swag

A very good album that captures Elvis's vitality and greatness. My only complaint is some of the songs just don't go anywhere.

The temptation is to not take this seriously, but that's habit, isn't it? Awfully fun and clean and good. There's just a hint of haunting to the wholesomeness, isn't there? The crispness and the simplicity of the playing are notable, as is the quality of Elvis' voice, which is worth being reminded of.

Chiller than usual, love it as always <3

Very good album. I enjoyed just about every song.

Primer disc postservei militar i última llamarada abans de perdre's en una década de films millorables. Ell i la banda en plena forma, se'ls nota vius i amb energia

In my mind Elvis is kinda of a cheesy figure who isn't really worth much serious consideration. But this record is actually pretty great! While I'm not sure how much artistry Elvis himself actually possesses - he's got a backing band of absolute pros, covers some great songs, and is being recorded with (at the time) state of the art record production. The record just sounds great. Also, Elvis' voice is nothing to complain about at all - often powerful and versatile. While I'm typically more of a fan of musicians that take a more "auteur" or "diy" approach, it's hard to deny the craftsmanship on this record. Fun stuff!

I've never been a huge Elvis fan, but this album helps me understand his appeal a bit more. His voice is undeniable: rich and powerful, yet smooth as butter. The production on the album is excellent. The backup vocals are always clear without being overpowering. Great harmonies and fun music 4/5

It's Elvis

Elvis + Christmas = <3

shawty got them apple bottom jeans the boots with the for

it's the fucken KING!!!! The only reason people my age listen to Elvis is if their parents listened to him, and mine didn't. But this is just undeniably catchy. He's a way more versatile singer than I expected, too. 4/5.

I've never quite *gotten* Elvis'status as the GOAT, but this is pretty good stuff.

Nice to here his voice

fun and classic

Return of the king

Growing up, I always heard about The King, and how he is adored by even the greatest names in music but somehow his music was alien to me, or at least I always thought so. It’s not an album as we would later be used to but damn is this great!

No tiene sus canciones por las que es la figura que es, pero igual un disco regular de Elvis tiene mucho más interés que el mejor disco de una banda promedio.

Standard Elvis

Couldn't top his first album, but its still just Elvis 4/5

Great fun, though slightly dark

I know he's the King and all, but I was a bit underwhelmed. Thought the album would knock my socks off. Still solid. I listened to it a whole bunch, looking for variety or seamlessness or something. Lots of reasons to like it and his unworldly talent is on display, but missing a truly unique X factor on this album. His backup singers doing that annoying low guy/alto voice was also pure drivel - stand up to your producers man. I'll give it a 4 cuz he's the King and cuz I just gave that Deerhunter album a 4 (prob should've been a 3) so can't go lower.

It was interesting reading about this album. It was Elvis' first since being discharged from the army. It was also a commercial failure, only selling 300,000 copies. The album fits the "Living Stereo" label, recorded using a Neumann U-47 studio mic. It does sound amazing. Apart from Fever there aren't a lot of hits here but it does have song good solid song-writing from his band and is a great listen. I'm surprised he got away with the lyric: "That's when I'll drag you home with me girl I'm gonna chain you to the wall" Overall a fun rock album I'd put at 3.5 stars and I'll round it up to 4.

Love a little Elvis but not his best album so I can’t give it a 5!

For me and my appreciation of Elvis its all about the material...are the SONGS to my liking, because the performance and delivery all always spot on. On this album he lets his blues side OUT! Some big blues numbers here that are great performances and the material is pretty good. Fever is another high point one of the best versions of that song I've ever heard. 3.75 stars

Usually not the biggest fan of Elvis, but i gotta say that i really like this album. Good Blend of slow ballads and upptempo Rock'n'roll.

Chill, really nice vocal performance, simple but groovy

Really lovely listen to this album, the ultra familiar tones of Elvis was strangely very comforting. Although I don't think I've heard any of the Elvis originals in the album, it feels like a more mature outing than his earlier songs. The different styles and pace of music take some getting used to, and can see that there might have been mixed reviews when this initially was released. The production on Fever is just gorgeous! Best: Fever; Dirty, Dirty Feeling Worst: I will be home again

pleasantly surprised. didn't think i would enjoy listening to Elvis but this record proved me wrong. Loved the track Fever.

I mean, classic right? But also, very uniform sound. Fever was my favorite on that album. I feel like he gets a really different sound out of that song compared to the others. Overall, good.

I dig this album. Elvis just carries so much love and pain in each one of his songs. He really makes me feel it.

Forgotten Gem

well, it's a classic

Muy bonito, a falta de una mejor palabra y sin querer sonar condescendiente. Letras bonis y ritmos (?) distintos (muy grato encontrarme esta versión de “Fever” que no conocía, es la original?). PS: fuertecita “The Girl of My Best Friend” D:

It's Elvis. Enough said.

Fine Elvis.

Very good album, erotic with interesting songs

Extra ster is voor "Fever", dit nummer wordt door meerdere mensen heerlijk vertolkt, Elvis is er 1 van.

Really enjoyed this. Lots of songs here (or versions of) that I hadn't heard. Very nice.

I never listened to a complete Elvis album before, so I'm very impressed with this one. A great opportunity to know a little bit of pop/rock history, even recognizing a lot of influences from blues and knowing that Elvis is not a real rock pioneer (maybe in a commercial way, but not artistic), this looks like an important album for me.

Rock meloso de Elvis...

Es Elvis. No hay más, ni menos. Pleno, blues, rock&roll.

Vive elvis, du bon rock and roll! 4

Fever is definitely a weird version... so sparse. But given all the other Elvis songs i hadn't heard before, this is a fun, solid list of tracks. Worth a listen.

A nuanced and versatile voice in a way you wouldn't realize if you'd only heard "Hound Dog" or whatever.

Its Elvis, nothing to complain about.

Great not what I would have expected from the king

My Elvis knowledge is very dim. I found the pretty wide range of styles interesting.

It’s Elvis... 4 stars

Was expecting 45 minutes of jail house rock but was pleasantly to surprised to listen to a wonderfully varied mix of tunes that showcases the man's range perfectly

A collection of short and sweet songs that will definitely have me coming back for seconds, except for fever(I didn't love that song).

Klassiker. Hat Spaß gemacht :)

I haven't ever listened to Elvis outside of like, what you hear on the radio or in movies, so this was an entirely new experience to me. I can see why people were head over heels for him. What a voice, on top of these melodies, super nice. Do-whoppy, songs about love and longing, just overall a great album.

Nothing to write home about, but nothing to whine about necessarily. I don't think this is his greatest work. However, I still found it enjoyable. 3.5 but I'll give it a 4.

4.5/5. Solid stuff here. I have not listened to a lot of Elvis, but I am a fan of this. If I saw this at a record store, I would pick it up.

While this album doesn't have any of my favorites songs of his its still great to listen to him any song. Such a great voice!

HOLY SHIT! ELVIS IS BACK!???

Thoughts before listening: I've never really been an Elvis guy. I mean some of his songs are classics that I enjoy hearing from time to time, but I've never thought to myself "you know what, I could really go for some Elvis right now." Looking at the tracklist on this album, I don't see any of the standard Elvis hits, so I guess we'll see how strong Elvis' deep cuts are. Review: So this is undeniably the Elvis sound: 50s pop rock with a bit of a country twist and the instantly recognizable vocals. That being said, there are some stylistic curveballs in here. For instance, I was pleasantly surprised to see a cool, jazzy cover of "Fever" as the second track, and a few of these songs continue in that jazzy vibe by adding horns to the mix. All in all though, I'm missing the big, iconic hits on this one which means the best I can do is a 3.

Perfectly…mid

Always seem to enjoy Elvis more than I expect to - Might just me nostalgia I guess

Elvis Presley possessed a vocal talent unlike any other white artist in the 50s. That adjective is important. He was excellent at interpreting other people’s music, specifically the rock and roll pioneers Little Richard, Chuck Berry, and Big Mana Thornton. Derivative as he may have been, his voice was still one of the best on the radio and it showed in all his top ten hits. But there are few, if any, of those hits here. This is a comeback record, that doesn’t really stack up to it’s predecessors. Elvis was more of a movie star by the time this album came out. I don’t think the song choices were particularly good, especially Fever, which belongs to Peggy Lee so much that even Elvis couldn’t offer anything to add to it. The music is good: it’s pleasant early 60s pop music. It just doesn’t feel as fresh as Elvis’ previous output or as welcome as his music after the 68 Comeback Special. After reading about the album, the singles released at the time were some of Elvis’ best work. Stuck On You, Are You Lonesome Tonight, and It’s Now Or Never are classics that were puzzlingly not on the album. With these tracks, this could easily have been a 5 star album. Without them, it’s a curiosity (Elvis’ first album recorded in stereo) 3.5 stars

Classic Elvis

Jeg kan godt lide det, men jeg er ikke blæst bagover.

yank yank

It's fine,I guess. Musically not really anything groundbreaking. Well produced, sure, but not really exciting in any meaningful way.

Hard to deny his legendary voice, however theres only a few tracks on here i really care about. Standouts are Fever, Thrill of your Love and It Feels So Right.

What can I say, it's Elvis. Pretty classic. I've listened to a decent amount of Elvis but I haven't heard most of these songs before (with the exception of "Fever"). Pretty fun.

It's not his first. It's not his best. It's not his most innovative. Honestly it's mundane.

C'est plus sympa que ce que je m'attendais mais ça reste du Elvis et c'est pas trop ma came. Ambiance dîner américain

The Good: The King isn’t dead!!! The Bad: Wait… we have been lied to… The Ugly: Wishing for someone to be gone again… Not that this was bad, the fucking production quality is stellar, the musicianship is exemplary… and yet, this feels like a someone trying to relive their teenage years while nearing their ‘30s I don’t know… did not need to hear this before I die. I could use a Elvis Greatest Hits album, that should be heard… but alas, it shall not be that way. Will shoot this one down the barrel and keep my fingers crossed that the next album is worthy of death! 3*

meio qualquer coisa como qualquer coisa do elvis.

There were songs I’d give a one to and songs I’d give a five to. Fun to listen to this and overall better than I expected.

Yeah it’s fine

This was fine? Surprised it took me so long to get an Elvis album on here. "Fever" "Such A Night" and "Reconsider Baby" were the standouts for me

It didn't capture me all that much as a record, but I gave it three stars because that voice is as silky smooth as anything you'll here on some of these tracks! Pretty amazing

Damn, Elvis really is back, isn't he? This is the last time though seeing as this is my third and final Elvis album of the project. How do I feel about it? Well, it's probably my least favorite of the three, but it's still not bad. I've talked in length about the importance of Elvis Presley as a public figure more than anything else about him, so I'll just skip past that for redundancy's sake. The music on this album is okay. The arrangements are nice, but it is still fairly standard 50s-early 60s rock and roll, which has never been my favorite. I'd say this is my least favorite of the three because it doesn't really have any highlights like the best songs on the other two. This album doesn't really have anything on the level of "Blue Suede Shoes" or "In the Ghetto" for me. The closest it comes is probably "Such a Night," which I do like, but it's not quite as great as those other songs. Other than that, this is pretty much another Elvis album. Some parts haven't aged super well, but it could be much worse in that regard as well as every other regard. The album's nice, but not my favorite. 3/5.

The first three songs are great! After that it’s a mixed bag. Enjoyable listen, but not something that will go into my régularité rotation

Definitely not the best of Elvis. Hard to give it a low rating though

Always fun to get one of these early building blocks of rock and roll. Still a good listen, and Elvis’ voice will always be special.

Pretty good album with a lot of lesser known songs. By now I have heard the hits so many times through pop culture that they have gotten old. This album had a lot of songs that I didn't recognize and it was nice to hear them.

No, he's dead.

Smooth Elvis voice. Very much an early 60s sound. Nothing noteworthy.

The Girl of My Best Friend 10/10 Fever 3/10 Make Me Know It 4/10

Rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and pop built from lively guitar work, tasteful piano, swinging rhythms, and commanding vocals feels like watching a master craftsman casually demonstrate skills he no longer needs to prove—effortless, confident, and mostly enjoyable. Unfortunately the energy and Charm don't last me more than two songs.

I love Elvis as an icon, and I like a lot of his well known tracks. To be honest though, I find this pretty dull. I like the upbeat songs best, but don't like his vocals enough to enjoy the ballads.

No real standouts on here, very middle of the road

This is music created by Elvis Presley. I don't have much love or hate for the King. I recognize the talent and influence, but I don't know how well the music holds up outside of the occasional appreciation revisit.

Was it just today, or is this better than the other two Elvis albums on the list? You may have just gotten lucky today Elvis. Still a Greatest Hits compilation type of artist though.

I love Elvis but couldn't they just have added one or two comps of his (with RCA and Sun) and just be done with this? Yes, maybe it was a success commercially and culturally speaking for the album format, as it sold a lot after Elvis returned from his forced military service abroad. But, it wouldn't be the best introduction to Elvis at all! It shows he was already great at this point, but why are comps not allowed on this list? Do they not count as albums or something? Some of the best releases ever are comps!!

Ihan ok levy, ei oikeastaan Feverin lisäksi ollut hittejä.

Dear reader if you've come across this review and are kind of lost on the story you should go and see the reviews that I left for the Rolling Stones. It is a good bit of back story in there. Much like the Rolling Stones and the main character of the play I saw when I was in college called "The Importance Of Whiteness" the entire track of Elvis is based on stealing black music. Record executives were very much 'if we could find a white man who sings like a black man we'll make a million dollars'. Elvis is that white man. It does not take away from the music, you just need to understand that he stole it and made it OK for white people, at the time, to like it.

I respect Elvis, his legacy and works. But this album is pretty dated. I'm sure it went hard at the time, but I have to confess that it didn't really stick with me.

3 - decent

Elvis. But not his best stuff. Still pretty good though.

Always nice to listen to some Elvis, but there were no top Elvis bangers on this album sadly, just an average Elvis album

Für ein Album von 1960 wirklich gut. Seichter Rock, typische Elvis-Stimme. 3/5

I mean he ripped off everyone else - but he did it well!

well stop your complaining cause in the earliest part of the 60s every fucking musician is somehow an industry plant. and also the concept of industry plant is really unclear: yes, julian casablacas have a rich dad but he and julian's mom divourced when julian's only eight so is he a nepo baby or is the strokes an industry plant? nobody knows. 3/5. i don’t like it anyway.

Kind of a typical album of its era. Mostly forgettable doo wop and the occasional wacky cover. Stick with the greatest hits.

Some rockabilly, some crooning. Sounds like late 50s, sounds like Elvis. Includes a decent arrangement of "Fever". It's actually not bad, but nothing crazy good.

Smooth tones from the king himself. However, he's certainly not my king. I appreciate him, but it's not my cup of tea. I could sit and listen, but not with much emotion either way.

Now there might be 10 other albums on the 1001 list that are by Elvis. I’m letting the generator surprise me and am not looking at the list in advance si i am not prejudging. But i am listening to this and wondering why this is on here. Great production. Great back band. Elvis is Elvis. The Jordanairres he used for years before, so nothing new. Its not a gospel album that highlights a break from previous or a new direction. Maybe its that it is the last before a long line of movie related albums? Anyway, not bad, some good session musos, a nice blend ofcountry, rock, blues, gospel, Elvis’ voice in fine firm, lovely dreamy production, but a bit snoozy for me. I’m sure it spawned a thousand knock offs but then Elvis is arguably a knock off himself. I love Elvis, big fan but he really is an artist where a compilation tape is better than the albums.

A wider variety of musical styles here than his earlier releases, mixing in pop, a lot of soul, and a few ballads. I still prefer the tracks that hint at that earlier rock sound; like Dirty, Dirty Feeling. Though I LOVE the soul offerings like It Feels So Right. His cover of Fever is surprisingly great, more or less following in the style of Peggy Lee's version. All-in-all this is a really enjoyable record, and I have always loved this style and era of music. I have mixed feelings on Elvis though, since he was basically the originator of the music industry manufacturing a "superstar" by using a pretty face and charismatic entertainer to sell music that other (more talented) people created.

No he's not.

A bit boring

This album is a bit boring. I arrived late to the Elvis party but tend to like his sadder, more soul infused music.

Fine. I can appreciate what an impact Elvis had on music but he’s not someone I sit down to listen to. Just an okay album imo.

meh. I get he was trying new sounds after being in Army, but it's little boring...at least for an Elvis album.

Surely there are Elvis records that were more influential?

Sending him into the army was soooooo crazy. Overall it was fine but I swear half the songs didn't sound like him?

Enjoyable album from Elvis. Old school Americana vibes, and 50s pop styles throughout. I enjoyed this a decent amount.

This was the first album Elvis recorded after being discharged from the Army. It marks a change in the style of his music - more ballads and a pop sound - and a change in his vocal range. My Dad is a big Elvis fan, so I probably listened to more Elvis growing up than a lot of other artists. Listening to Elvis always just makes me thing back to a certain time, and while I wouldn't normally seek out listening to him, it's always nostalgic for me to hear his songs. I knew a couple of songs on this album, but not all of them. I found the album, generally, to be a little slow with only a few real catchy toe tappers. Production on this album considering when it was made and how quickly it was made is really extraordinary. But generally I would rate this as a middle of the road Elvis album.

I didn't realize he had played that "Fever" song. It was a pretty good album, not the Elvis that I expected either.

It's ok. Doesn't contain the classic Elvis tracks that I like but it's a pleasant enough listen.

puik album door the king

I’ve heard this one before. I like Elvis just fine I guess. He’s got a lot of bangers and a lot of ok stuff and a lot of slop. This doesn’t have any of his big hits or even any of his more familiar ones from oldies radio. There’s a few bangers and everything else is pretty ok to good, with no schlock or slop, except “Fever”, which is just a bad song no matter who covers it. I like it just fine I guess.

This is the first record Elvis released after leaving the army, thus the album title “Elvis is Back!”. I listened to the original release (twelve tracks). Most of the tracks are covers, e.g., the Peggy Lee hit “Fever” and the Drifters “Such a Night”. Elvis received help on some songs from other big names like Floyd Kramer and Boots Randolph.

Good fun, can see why he was the king

I think Elvis is a little overrated. I get it, he made a the girls go nuts and made parents nervous. But Little Richard and Chuck Berry did it better.
