Reviews (page 2 of 8)

Elvis is always 5 stars. No other voice like his.

Such a throwback. I remember bopping to this at the local hankypank with slippin jimmy and my new squeeze Betty Williams.

Soooo good

elvis's band is back. on every single track somebody put their whole pussy in 300%. even elvis.

Maybe it’s a failure of imagination on my part but it seems abundantly clear to me why Elvis is king of rock and roll. So singularly talented and insanely charismatic even when recorded. Can’t imagine music without him and this album is no exception

Did not expect to enjoy Elvis as much as I did.

Great album!! 5 stars.

Giggly 😊

Damn, I'd never expected I'd like Elvis. The album is really catchy and enjoyable wow

Expected Schlok, instead there was gravitas and astute reference just with a distinctive voice. He was king for a reason

Elvis is amazing. Nothing Else to say here. 5/5!

Classic

A tad less sparse than his pre army work but it still rocks.

Wonderful album with a great, varied collection of songs. There’s crooners and rockers, country ballads and swinging tunes. And Elvis sounds completely at home no matter what style or genre he’s singing. He’s a great singer and more than that, he’s an incredible entertainer. His delivery kept putting a smile on my face. What an incredible performance he gives on “Fever”! He really milks those lines for everything they’ve got!

Elvis is the king. This album is stellar. Really pretty songs with his timeless buttery vocal performance. I'm really, really impressed by the production too and I'm shocked that I'm listening to the original mix and it's sounding so good on my speakers. I think that's a testament to the amazing arrangement; there seems to be a layer that appears every single time that my ear wants one... there seems to be a change every time I'm ready to move on from whatever section I'm listening to. Beautiful record. I grew up listening to Elvis as he was my mom's favorite but I don't often reach to put his records on these days but this was such a delight to listen to. I was really considering this as a 4/5 until I heard "Such a Night" which really blew me away. The energy and tension in the verses that explode into the huge shouting chorus is so amazing. Truly incredible songwriting that I think is really missing these days. Currently when I think of pop/indie music there is such a hesitancy to have big dynamic sections; so much of current music is about coming across as "cool" that I think songwriters in those genres stay away from this sort of big emotional moments and it's so refreshing to hear something that is 60 years old having this effect on me. Love the album cover too. All the guys wanted to be him, and all the ladies wanted to be with him; just put his face on the cover and it'll be great.

Elvis is well and truly back!! Best Song: Fever Worst Song: Like a Baby

Classic

Elvis es Elvis.

I did like this one! It was pretty awesome so I'd probably rate a 8-9/10. 5 stars for me

Elvis had a million great songs but only a handful of really great albums. When he was paired up with the right material, like he is here, he was better than anyone.

Nice as always

Day66 - elvis’ voice and the jordanaires singing backup is a recipe for a great album. such a night is my favorite elvis song

Great tunes. Almost all were new to me.

Elvis is in the building! I really enjoyed this album -- I hadn't heard any of these Elvis songs before, so it was a new experience for me, and I really dig the early 1960s rhythms, horns, vocals, etc.

You can NEVER go wrong with Elvis!

Love Elvis, always 5 stars

Classic Elvis. Without super hits. 5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Never thought of myself as much of an Elvis fan but these were some of his best songs. Will definitely listen again!

I grew up listening to Elvis but haven’t heard any of these songs, which was surprisingly to me. All of them were really good too! Elvis is straight up the “King of Rock & Roll”! 10/10

One of my top list artists!

May be Elvis' best.

I was raised on Elvis, so this was a nice revisit. Loved this album.

classic

classic

Beautiful album

Elvis back? The King is still not gone! Amazing album not only due to Fever, but for all the other gems like "The Girl Next Door Went A'Walking"

Still holds up to this day

Elvis es Elvis

LOVE Elvis.

Elvis was probably my first favourite artist. Elvis Gold on 8 track. All the music, all the movies, I liked all of it. Old doo wop rock and roll is tough to beat.

čagica

I've heard all the Elvis. Some good some lame.

Loved it. Elvis can truly do no wrong.

Really enjoyed this album, especially the doo-wop elements made it work for me.

grande som do mestre

Loved it!!

I can't believe I just 5 stared him. I guess I've been missing Graceland and Memphis lately

This could be his best ever album

Super good album. Shame about the "stealing it all from black ppl", but whatevs, I guess.

Solid album, great production that highlights the great voice of Elvis.

So freaking good. I could listen to his voice forever

For et album! Helt rått

Incredible. Lots of blues.

Love this album. Love Elvis

His voice is so soothing to me on any non-hyped up songs. A lot of this album is like that.

The only jam that I was already familiar with was Elvis’ version of Fever. Dirty, Dirty Feeling fucking slaps. The album sounds exactly how I thought it would sound, but with a bunch of songs that I didn’t already know. No big surprises today, but that’s ok.

Classic.

This is so much fun.

Make me know it!

This is a really good early rock & roll record. Definitely feel the blues influence. Great use of horns and good examples of piano as the main rock instrument in several songs. I don't know if this has been remastered, but it sounds great; super-clean with great stereo separation.

very cool

I'm not a huge Elvis fan, but I really enjoyed this album.

Elvis' fourth album overall and his first in two years after his army discharge. The only other Elvis album I have listened and can compare to is one of his Christmas albums that my parents had. But, I don't really remember much of that. That will change in the future with this exercise. One of the critical praises of this album is the musical variety which I wholly agree with. This variety includes ballads, doo-woop (for lack of a better term), rock and blues. Needless to say, he nails all of them. My two favorite songs are the two blues-based songs "Like A Baby" and "Reconsider Baby" which end the album. Another highlight is his cover of Peggy Lee's "Fever". I can't say that I didn't expect to like and enjoy this album. I did. It's Elvis baby.

ko i inače uz Elvisove pisme, poseban feel-good ugođaj!!

grandeee elvis!!!

I don't know, looks and sounds like the same Elvis to me... (OOPS! I'm sorry. I thought this album was called "Elvis is BLACK!") Three songs recorded during this session went to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. None are included on the album, which is insane. The King's voice actually improved after he got out of the army, and yet he followed up this gem by seemingly appearing in as many forgettable movies as time would allow. As always, blame the colonel. But this is the King, who belongs on this list in a big way.

Elvis is our eternal sweetheart.

Rock de Elvis. Vinilo.

Elvis es Elvis

Listened before? N Peak Elvis! This is my second Elvis album and it’s amazing beginning to end!

Great album of songs I hadn't heard before

It’s my first Elvis album and I liked to. Especial the change to the last songs, Side B ? that had more of a rock feel.

I love The King and this one is a cracker!

One of my favorites! Elvis will always be a 5 star vote

Nice. Early-ish Elvis. Reminded me to go back to him a bit.

It’s a fun listen and the cover of Fever is great.

Love this albums, shows Elvis’s range

Prachtig album, bijna alles van Elvis is goed!

Disco de corta duración (31 min). De todas, solo me gusto 1.

Pues muy bien, qué más queda decir? Canciones que más me gustaron: It feels so right, tiene una ondita seductora y Make me know it, clásico y característico sonido del rock & roll.

the fourth album released by rock and roll king elvis presley. the title of the album refers to elvis coming back to recording songs after serving in the military for two years. this is also the first album from elvis recorded in stereo. elvis has the kind of pop rock music that's the true median of what was considered popular among youth at the time. some lean into more rock, some are dancey, some are sweet slow ballads... a lot are reallll lovey dovey. a good amount of ground is covered in general in its short runtime. like him or not, elvis has a charm that would make any girl swoon. i can't let my own biases stop me from disliking this album so much and dismissing its significance. this album was alright. as much as i don't like old school rock and roll, there's a reason why elvis is known as the king. this album gets a pass. give me some sugar, mama.

7.0/10 Kinda liked this one

Elvis vende tilbake (fra ka? Nei, si det (æ gidd ikke google)), og det va ikke så verst fint, æ e fan.

Good old Elvis, fun.

Everything besides Best Friend’s Girl is good. Such a Night/Dirty Feeling the highlights

it's Elvis so its pretty good. Like how short it is.

Idk. Lol. What a strong vibe. Lots of hits here. Such a Night is awesome, but Fever is probably one of my least favorite songs in the world.

back from the army that is, after having completed his two year draft. A mixed bag of styles on this album, rock n roll, pop ballads, a cover of 'Fever', but it's a good vocal showcase.

It's great for what it is

Pretty solid old album from the king

Fun rock and roll. Love his voice. Can totally see why there was so much hysteria around him. 4/5

I am certainly no Elvis Presley expert or fan. But from the albums I've heard I think the early Elvis Presley albums are the good ones. The later ones are simply fame and fortune. The early ones are quite good music, though very much pop. I wouldn't put an album on but when listening to this one I really thought that maybe I should listen to him more often.

I liked this. No big mega hits but it was just solid and fun. Dirty, Dirty Feeling was a pleasant surprise and was added to one of my playlists. Good stuff.

It was more fun than I anticipated. There were several songs I liked. 3,5/5.

It will always and forever be fucking hilarious that they actually committed to sending Elvis to the military against his will. BTS-type situation. Anyway he seems to have done okay for himself on the comeback album

Some good songs but not really sure why it's on the list. Seemed like a mid-tier Elvis album compared to the other albums of his I've heard

This was great. Loved how effortless he sings. Every song on here was great.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, I listened all the way through twice. Fever was a highlight. 4/5

01) Make Me Know It - 8,5 02) Fever - 10,0 03) The Girl of My Best Friend - 9,0 04) I Will Be Home Again - 8,5 05) Dirty, Dirty Feeling - 8,0 06) Thrill of Your Love - 8,5 07) Soldier Boy - 8,5 08) Such a Night - 9,0 09) It Feels So Right - 8,5 10) Girl Next Door Went A-Walking - 8,0 11) Like a Baby - 8,0 12) Reconsider Baby - 8,0 TOTAL: 8,54 (85/100)

This was very good, but I guess I like old bloated Elvis more than young spry Elvis.

yeah fuck elvis but I like his music

> the Beatles

The King of overrated.

Enjoyable listen, though not his best album. Enjoyed the variety and gospel vibe on some songs.

While not his best work, it is still a banger of an album

Early Elvis > Late Elvis

I don’t think Elvis on record is the best way to appreciate him, but this is my favourite Elvis record.

I liked it

Great music from the King. Good vibes and great songs

Surprisingly groovy effort.

Exceeded my expectations! I added “Reconsider Baby” to my playlist. His rendition of “Fever” is also very good.

A boo bop a de dip damn was really expecting myself to be over this one but turns out Elvis got piiiipes!

Back from the Army, and ready to sing some songs that I've never heard before (and 'Fever')! Thematically, they're extremely samey, but that's the 50s for you (I assume) (pay no attention to this being from 1960). Great album cover though. Like a note in Apple Preview stuck on an old picture with great (non-note) typography. Actually, who am I kidding, these songs are great, because Elvis is singing them. They're all short and snappy. Really, this is a pretty Bublésque album. I liked it. Disturbed to learn that there was an Elvis movie called "Tickle Me", though. I bet that's even worse than the Beatles movies. Linguistic Intrigue: "Make Me Know it Do" (c.f. "Love me Do") Unrelated Elvis Thought: Was Schoolhouse Rock based on 'Jailhouse Rock'? Google says no, but it seems like it must be. Or else I'm underestimating the past prolificity of the -house morpheme.

Few lyrics have aged like milk, but besides that, a Great album

Crazy seeing how low the average is for this one, you people don't like Elvis? ELVIS?

i like fever a lot. didn’t expect that from elvis. i liked this album a lot more than i was expecting to. it feels weird putting this on the same level as my other fours, but that’s genuinely how im feeling.

In which Elvis begins to sings standards and Vegas glistens across the horizon.

It's Elvis...

A lot more covers than I expected, but good.

That's Elvis alright. The Girl of My Best Friend and Dirty, Dirty Feeling were my favorites. His voice really shines in this album, very clean. 7.1/10

I’m not sure the Elvis albums on this list are super representative of him as an artist and the impact he had. Elvis in Memphis maybe does that, which is probably why it ended up being my highest rated of his albums on the list. This wasn’t bad by any means, just a bit forgettable by Elvis standards. The first half of the album is the strongest, but can we talk about “Like A Baby?” Why does Elvis always have at least one completely batshit song per album? I suppose it was the style at the time.

Early pop, rock with soul and an incredible voice. The king could sing.

Just an alright Elvis album. Nothing special. Still the king.

I enjoyed this if I had to put on an Elvis record this is the one I’d pick.

It's a solid Elvis album. I found Reconsider, Baby to be the strongest track

Woah, didn't know my wedding officiant had this in him.

-he is writing love songs but he gets pretty extreme about it, almost to the point of being scary -he has a nice voice :) -I can see why parents in the 60s didn’t like him or his lyrics -I like the overall vibe, very fun

It's grooving, it's smooth, it's Elvis. I'm not even a massive Elvis fan and I enjoyed this a lot. Worth a listen when you just want something pleasant to hear for a while.

7.5/10

Smooth, classic rock and roll. Good stuff.

FAVO: Fever, Such a night, It feels so right, Reconsider Baby

4- Stars (10/15)

Yeah Elvis was awesome. This is classic Elvis but I have to say I’m still a sucker for Vegas Elvis also. Gonna put suspicious minds on next.

Supreme confidence in the delivery, a voice at the peak of its powers and no hint of fat (literal or figurative). Honed and awakened by his spell in the army, the King is indeed back. With all that said, the songs maybe don't quite match up to the artist here. It's a little heavy on the covers and crooners for me (although Fever is great fun). All told though, you'll get no complaints from me for 32 mins of unadulterated Elvis.

Did Elvis ever leave?

Went into this expecting to hate it or at the very least be underwhelmed. I was pleasantly surprised. This was excellently produced! And I didn’t think he was being overly Elvis either. I guess the army changed him.

This is probably the most exceptional example of this early 60s style on this list and while it isn't really something I would listen to all the time, the crisp production is gorgeous.

First Elvis album I’ve ever listened to… I enjoyed it. 3.5 stars rounding up to 4

Sape

I mean...I love me some Elvis!

Really enjoyed this one

It's not so much an album that tells a fleshed out story - more of a collection of well-produced songs sung by the King. But I can't fault Elvis for that; it's just the way rock n roll was in the pre-Beatles/Beach Boys world. Elvis is firing on all cylinders here (fresh in the studio back from the Army) as are the backing singers/musicians who helped flesh this thing out. Great songs with a nice amount of variety, super fun and easy listen (only 30 mins!)

I thoroughly enjoyed listen to this album and had fun picturing myself as a house wife making dinner while this record spins. Elvis always has and always will have one of the smoothest voices in music.

uuh dasch no cool ich kenn no kein song. aber arrangements huere knackig, er singt halt au suuuper. fever isch huere guet nume bass stinn schnipse. super. bin jetz bi such a night und recht cool würkli, s isch wie die ältere elvis sache afoch in stereo haha. reconsider baby isch suuuper. smooth sax,

Pretty good, fun album. I could listen to this more. 4/5

Blimey, I really enjoyed this!

Love me some Elvis!

this feels different it’s unique elvis tuff 8/10 2026/1/12

enjoyable :)

This is pretty solid. There’s some songs I don’t think hold up, but Elvis and the other performers do well.

Where did Elvis go? Who knows but he sure is back now!

Good one

What an incredible production. This album has such a full sound with just a few components. It’s like a warm bath of reverb that I could sit in for hours. I enjoyed Elvis’s rendition of “Fever,” although it’s not my favorite version. I also loved “Thrill of Your Love.”

Apparently the Colonel thought the army would ruin Elvis’ career. I guess not. This is a strong return. Not as strong as Ted Williams, but for musical talent it may be the most notable album to be released by a veteran. It’s nice to hear continued sounds of Sun Records in his RCA years. Fever adds a dynamic that I probably wouldn’t have expected to hear had I listened to this in 1960. Provocative but still familiar, this Elvis release stands out as one of the “Classic” ones. From start to finish my foot was tapping and my head was bopping.

Not a fan of Elvis but bonus points for being new years eve

Before today I wouldn’t have counted myself as an Elvis fan. We all know the big hits. The dance. The outfits. But this felt pure and fun. Something my conservative Nan would have loved back in the day. 4/5

It’s Elvis, it’s gonna be great, love the voice, lyrics and blusey sounds

Pretty good

Classic and timeless.

Our first Elvis album on this list I think, how exciting! Has to say I was a bit shocked by how good sounding and exciting this was - at least the first disc. Even more so considering it was recorded 1960! Seems like this is mostly covers though, and here again comes that debate that I've been having with myself throughout this list of whether that is OK or not. This album brings a new side to that discussion as most of the other cover albums were not something I really enjoyed. But this was! Overall I enjoyed the first disc more than the first. It was more varied, and sounded better. The songs on the second disc sounded more the same, and some text were extremely basic, like 'Such a Night'. But throughout the record I was really impressed with Elvis' vocal prowess. Definitely no other that sound like him, and he shows he can handle different types of singing as well. Extremely impressive show, no wonder he's been dubbed the king of Rock 'N' Roll. All this in mind puts it at a weak 4!

Soulful, good voice Elvis. I think that o prefer the rocking one

Not what he's known for, but still soulful and enjoyable.

Surprising mix of Doo-Wop and "please me Kennedy", with a strong end of classic what I would call Elvis. Enjoyable listen

Booooa, o grande Rei. Tava na hora. Hype. 4*

Had a good time. This is what the generator is all about baby.

That man be singing black guy music to white girls! The scandal! Elvis isn't an album artist except to the extent it's all Elvis doing Elvis shit, which he's great at.

Don’t need to be the target demographic to be impressed. Flawless performance and production. Clearly influential. 4/5

calming. listened to it during a 5k

The faster songs are great. The slower songs are shmaltzy. I would love a collection of faster elvis songs. Guy can sing.

Somehow, Elvis has returned. The songs seemingly are sequenced from fast, slow, fast, slow so that everyone is pleased with what Elvis is singing. Girls don’t have to wait long for a slow one and boys don’t have to wait long for a fast one. I don’t know if too many people have considered Elvis to be an album-oriented artist, yet I think this is the 3rd album from him in this book. He still feels a bit like a caricature to me than an actual musician/artist, a sort of avatar for what people wanted and see. I gave the other two albums three stars but I do enjoy this one a bit more. Not sure we needed three Elvis albums in the book but this may be my favorite of the three. My favorite tracks were: Make Me Know It The Girl of My Best Friend I’ll Be Home Again Thrill of Your Love Such a Night It Feels so Right Reconsider Baby

Fucker is JAMMIN

Favourite track: Fever

I get that once the 'album' was introduced to the world, consumers didn't look to greatest hits packages much anymore, but w/ certain artists - Elvis, Chuck Berry, James Brown - those collections of singles make a whole lot of sense. That's not to say that a record like Elvis Is Back! isn't worth your time - it absolutely is. It's to concede that what you're getting are deeper cuts rather than the tracks that made the man into the cultural icon he was, deservingly or not. Elvis's fourth studio album is not always a rockin' thing, but that's not exactly lamentable: I prefer the soulful version to the white-guy-gets-the-chicks-to-dance-edition. If you want who the world recalls, this Elvis isn't that. But if you want who he was at bottom, this Elvis is it.

Enjoyed this much more than I thought. 3-4 range. Favorite song Fever (yes, I know it’s a cover)

Love this. Classic

It was good. I don't think I've looked into one through and through

He was a damn good singer! I do question the necessity of adding in the 1 and a half minutes of dirty, dirty feeling where he eventually promises to chain his honey to a wall?? But this was fun overall, the classic roster of love song topics haha

I really dig Elvis Presley records and while this one is a fair to good album, it is clearly not as culturally or musically earth shattering as ALOHA FROM HAWAII VIA SATELLITE, which is nearly as important to his career as the '68 Comeback Special. When you look at the albums that were chosen from this artist you see the impact of the stupid singles and soundtracks rule on this list in action. Most of Elvis Presley's most culturally and notable tracks were either from soundtracks (G.I. Blues, Blue Hawaii, Viva Las Vegas...) or were from a time when selling singles was more important than selling LPS (Jailhouse Rock, Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear, All Shook Up...). So, you cannot really get a grasp on the influence of some artists without including soundtracks or singles compilations. Now back to this record. Even on an album such as this, he is still THE KING, and can make weaker songs sound fantastic. He makes what he is doing sound so easy, when it is far from.

On the plus side, Elvis has a voice that cannot be surpassed. His vocal delivery is perfect. On the down side - as Lennon said, 'Elvis died when he joined the army' - this is thin gruel compared to the raw power of Elvis before the draft.

This is alright.

Pretty good album! I like Elvis, not like a die hard or anything but he's definitely got some good music and this was a pretty good one!

Thoughtful and catchy arrangements that connect to deeper feelings as you listen

Look, Elvis is super cool and one of the most important folks ever in music - his voice is one of a kind and he revolutionized popular music. This is definitely a strong collection of songs, but its not the most memorable, especially on the back half. I'm not sure about the incessant background vocals on almost every track, but otherwise it's hard to argue with the instrumentation and arrangements. The mix is surprisingly lively and most of the songs sound really good. Personally, it's closer to a 3 star, but we'll round up since there's only one Elvis.

A laid back and versatile Elvis album. Smooth, often romantic and sometimes soulful. Not the rock and roll Elvis i prefer (Dirty, Dirty Feeling aside) but a good listen all the same. Crazy to think that over half the songs on this album are covers, imagine an artist doing that nowadays. The Jordanaires are fantastic in the background, really adding to that smooth, rich textured tone. A few too many very similar ballads and basic blues tracks to really get me excited but i did enjoy the couple of spins i gave it. Favourite tracks - Such a Night and Reconsider Baby (love the brass and jazz piano) 7.5/10

How do you objectively assess Elvis? Im old but he was a legend and died before i was born. To me, he was presented as some sort of cultural icon rather than an actual person. Like King Arthur, Robin Hood or Jesus. Who else spawns an industry of copycats (maybe MJ), so many albums and films and a look that still holds. His hits are part of the fabric of western society. Listening to this album was a treat. His voice really is a thing of beauty and i know he didnt write the songs, but they are great and really evoke an era.

Without any major hits, this just shows Elvis’s insane talent. Just a sweet and beautiful voice that really does not age. Always appreciate an album of his.

Never listened to an Elvis album all the way through before, pretty solid! Favorite tracks: Make Me Know It Fever (cover) Soldier Boy

It's ok 4/5

Good tunes from a long lost time

Unlike a lot of older albums, this is timeless. Loving this.

Make Me Know It 3.8 Fever 3.7 The Girl of My Best Friend 3.8 I Will Be Home Again 3.4 Dirty, Dirty Feeling 3.2 Thrill of Your Love 3.5 Soldier Boy 3.4 Such a Night 3.6 It Feels So Right 3.5 Girl Next Door Went A-Walking 3.4 Like a Baby 3.3 Reconsider Baby 3.5 Score: 3.508333333

‘Elvis Isn’t Coming Back’ was one of Houmous & Chutneys famous myth busting albums. If anyone knew that Elvis was definitely dead it would of course be Len Houmous & Ken Chutney! 4.3 5/12 Dirty, Dirty Feeling

I don’t think I’ve ever heard any of these songs before. But Elvis is Elvis and I still thought the album was pretty good.

There is a certainly no one quite like Elvis, and this album, though light on the hits, proves why the man won over the hearts of Americans everywhere.

Don't call it a comeback, The King will remain here for the remainder of your years and innumerable years after that.

nicer than expected

Fever is incredible. The rest is decent

I probably wouldn't stick this on voluntarily, the legend has kind of overshadowed the music for me. But I see the appeal and I love what he influenced. I do prefer the Cramps' cover of Fever though!

The king

Pretty good pretty good.

Pretty good!

Not a big Elvis fan but this was pretty good.

A pleasing album that dares to be a bit adventurous. While some of it doesn't leave too much of an impact, it definitely feels more intentual as an album than one of the earlier records I've heard. It almost sounds like he was trying to convey different personas for certain songs which I find interesting.

Great vibes. Surprised I didn’t really know any songs.

That was a good one :)

Elvis is back and he doesn't disappoint.

GOAT musician. Some of the downtempo songs are trying a little too hard to be sexy but dude's the man. I take it this album in total is downtempo compared to his others. Masterful tone setting, the best to ever do it, wonderful harmonies and each instrument is pronounced and doing something interesting always. Short with no bullshit filler. Intended to be replayed and danced to. Doo wop and gospel. American. Listened to it twice today. Any modern artist could easily cover one of these and make a shit ton of money.

First time listening to Elvis. Enjoyed it.

Hes back from a crazy 1 year hiatus

Fuck. I actually like Elvis now

Fun listen!

How good is the production on this album. Genuinely blew me away how great the recording sounds compared to early Beatles when this predates it. Unreal, with great songs, this will come back to me again

Elvis Is Back - Elvis Presley (4.5 Stars) Just gave Elvis Is Back a listen for the first time, though I've definitely heard classics like "Fever" before. And wow, I really enjoyed this album! It's got such a cool vibe. I'm seriously going to hunt down the vinyl version of this one. Those "Living Stereo" recordings are something special, and I bet it sounds amazing on wax. It might not be a chart-topper like some of his other albums, but I truly dig it. It's all about "Taking Care of Business" on this record. Definitely a positive listen!

Not really into Elvis or the genre for that matter. The late 50s and 60s doesn't give me much. Whilst listening I could imagine all the girls swooning and screaming the first time they heard it. It's commercial, produced to generate image and money. Some songs are pretty good, don't get me wrong, but I don't believe Elvis had much input - just his image and that sultry voice. The song writers and studio artists were in top form. With that said, I enjoyed it. It doesn't really tickle my fancy so to speak, but it's enjoyable and seductive. It's hard to fault the voice, the blues numbers, the typical rock and roll of the era.

I guess they don’t call him the king for nothing.

Always enjoyed Elvis and this album is no exception. His version of Fever is top notch.

He’s called The King—and Elvis the Pelvis—for a reason. I don’t think anyone was doing sexy croon quite like him. These songs are inconsequential and pleasing as hell.

Alright

Always a pleasure listening to Elvis

Elvis Presley always sounds great, and this album is fun! I've heard many Elvis songs, but not any of these. Had a blast listening to this album. Make Me Know It is a great start. Fever is incredible. The GIrl Of My Best Friend is a cute story. Dirty Dirty Feeling has some fun banjo music. Such A Night is also great. The rest of the album is solid. Good times! Best song: Fever

I enjoyed this album, I liked listening to Elvis songs I hadn’t heard before as, for whatever reason I have never listened to a proper album only compilations. Very good I thought.

The more Elvis I hear the more I begin to like his music. His style is great and it really changed rock for a reason. Great groovy listen

Is Elvis's back from the army? Maybe, but my god the session players were on fire for this one, it did not felt like it was too much like the previous one we heard which was further along on his discography. I wonder if that drum ending has been used as a sample for another song

Great Elvis album not one I normally listen to but some great gems

elvis is elvis! ironically started lisa marie’s memoir right before i saw this was the album of the day

It was good to discover some of his less known music. I had never heard any of these songs because I had only ever heard his main music. Overall exciting and fun album.

Elvis just makes for a good listen, really smittens the kittens.

Nice album when he still had a good voice

Fever is a hit. 4/5

Some of my favourite Elvis tunes!

Great!

first listen great stuff

8/10. I enjoyed listening to this album. For somebody who is considered to be the king of rock 'n' roll, this is quite a good album. :)

In 1958 Elvis, being poor and working class, was conscripted into the US Army for two years of military service. On his discharge in 1960, he was eager to get back into the studio to make more music with his old band. This album has more of a pop sound than some of his earlier rock ‘n’ roll, but it still sounds good with great production in a state of the art studio. Elvis’s voice had also noticeably improved, especially on tracks like his spine tingling version of Fever. Apparently Colonel Parker only wanted the band to record the bare minimum eight tracks to meet the contractual obligation, but they actually managed twelve album bangers in the allotted time (plus some classic singles), with some great bluesy R&B numbers as they warmed up and got back into the groove. Unfortunately after this the Colonel got his way and Elvis went back to making films again, instead of immediately following this up with another album.

I put this on during a stove into downtown to get a sandwich and it worked. Sunny day crossing bridges

Short and sweet. Even though I didn't know many of these songs, they were actually quite good! I probably would have hated it if it was any longer of an album as it might get old. Solid album, I'll say 3.5 - round up.

The KING!

For 1960, this record is produced exceptionally well. Everything sounds so crisp and clear. I love pretty much every song on this, even if most Elvis fans aren’t into this one. Something about that doo-wop sound just really appeals to me.

Never been a big Elvis fan but this is a solid album

I can always listen to an Elvis album. Post Army Elvis polished and more pop still a legend.

Nothing like Elvis.

Well before my time but some good classic music before he was over the top.

C’mon. It’s the king.

You can't go wrong with Elvis. It was solid old doo-wop songwriting and I heard his version of Fever for the first time. This was a good one for an older crowd.

Tally enjoyed this one!

Agree with Gabri: surprisingly pleasant!

I think I get why grandma threw her panties, would do the same I think 😳

It is of the times. It's good. I just feel like it's all so innocent and I don't relate to it very much ahaha. Some of the songs were still relevant. I did enjoy listening to it.

i got elvis' debut wayyy near the beginning of this project, four years and one military service later its cool to hear the big strides that have been made! the biggest leap compared to the debut is the backing band , a relative weakness there but all aces this time, and every bit as dexterous as elvis himself. he's fully grown into his voice, a lot less raw energy then the debut but even better at adapting to the various styles and song idioms covered here, theres a little doo-wop a little rock n roll a little torch ballad, cant be faulted as a package rly! everyone involved is totally game for everything, and i hear a lot of enthusiasm and effort and desire to make each moment and twist and inflection sign. i know enough ab the history of elvis to understand that this level of affection for the material is not always a guarantee lol but i also assume those albums arent on this list ! i like when artists are into the art theyre doing :)

Having played Elvis a fair bit on guitar I’ve grown to appreciate his whole career. That’s not to say every thing he did was genius. But he could take a rubbish song and make it - if not great, then much better. He is of course supported by a crack band: if you’re an aspiring guitarist learning this Scotty Moore, James Burton and sugarfoot garland licks will help. (Burton is not on this album - he was still with Ricky Nelson at this point). But it’s that voice in that body. He mightn’t have really been the king - chuck or Richard probably have a stronger claim, but you can see why he was anointed so. Elvis is the greatest white male singer of the 20th century. His rivals are few. Sinatra. Bennett. Freddie Mercury. George Michael. Robert Plant. But Elvis had the widest stylistic range. That instrument of Sinatra (who comes in at no 2) had a narrow stylistic range. Untouchable in jazz, Elvis could match him in swing. But left Sinatra behind in Of course this didn’t change the world like those fifties records did. But it showed Elvis had a pop sensibility that could have seen his career flourish in the 1980s. I have written a short story where he teams up with The Band (coincidentally a plot line on the short lived tv show ‘vinyl’). I also wonder what might have happened if he’d teamed up with Rick Rubin. Imagine him as one of the traveling wilburies. This is Elvis at a new crossroads. He reentered the music world when it had moved beyond what his prodigious gifts gave us. But this, not his strongest work, but probably a should listen, showed he hadn’t finished yet.

The King Don't Miss. Weirdly I think this is the first 'album' I've ever listened to by Elvis. He's ace but do people actually listen to his albums? This is a belter. It's a lovely mix of his stompy rock n roll and country ballads. Crams a lot into half an hour too. According to wiki, this was his first album which took him from teen idol to adult entertainer after he returned from the army and it shows. Highlights: Fever Dirty, Dirty Feeling Lowlights: None really. It's all decent.

I was wondering when I would see some Elvis on this list and was hoping for some actual albums, since all I was familiar with was various #1 compilations. Despite not being familiar with a single song on this album (besides various covers of Fever), I enjoyed it throughout. Thanks, list!

Elvis really coming in to his own as a mature and gifted singer/musician. This record is a feeling for sure.

Always love the Elvis albums they give me

A great collection of songs that I have not heard this version of before. Not exactly an album tho, just a talent showcase

This is probably my favorite of his yet. Lot of different styles that I didn't expect of him, especially early in his career. There were a few gems I'll come back to that I hadn't heard before. Rating: 4.2

Look, call me basic or whatever, but I like Elvis. Yeah he was...problematic. But also damn talented. 4/5

Elvis is my favourite artist of all time, and this is the first of his albums to show up on this list. Its a great one. His first comeback album. This was his first after the army. He thought his music career was over when he was drafted. So he definitely had something to prove here and it shows. His voice was stronger and he covered a diverse range of genres. A collection of strong songs and his band had really come a long way by this point. I want the record to show that I gave this a 4.5. It loses half a point for Fever and Soldier Boy which I think slow the album down a bit. Otherwise a solid album.

Catchy as hell. Hard to believe how different this is from the rock albums that were coming out ten years later.

I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Elvis’ voice is in top form here, especially on “Fever,” where his delivery is impeccable. The mix of ballads and upbeat tracks keeps things engaging throughout. It’s definitely one I’ll revisit. Standout Song: Such a Night Score: 4/5

Some quality rock and or roll. Nuf sed

Elvis is just a lot of fun. Some songs - like I Will Be Home Again - are vapid but others - like Fever - are truly outstanding.

A very strong album, Elvis sounds more like a singer than a performer in this album

A nice relaxing album, I liked the songs Make Me Know It, Fever and Reconsider Baby.

3.5 but ill give it a 4 because of Fever

Elvis continues to never miss

A solid record that encapsulates 50s/60s Rock pretty well. Favorite track: Such a Night

After 5 Elvis Costello albums, I finally get an Elvis Presley one! I know a lot of Elvis songs, but I'm not familiar with any particular album. This one I didn't know a single song from, except for a different version of Fever. Well, it's very Elvis - great voice, great band, decent songs, but nothing blew me away. Would like to have had one or two familiar songs.

World-shaking talent - Elvis is one of the greatest ever to do it. Elvis records fall into a funny era of pop music before the long-playing album had really come into its most mature expression - and yet everything about this is easy to love on those terms.

Elvis is strange to me. It is clear that he is vastly talented, has great presence, strong voice, and an icon. Listening to this album is fascinating because you can see so much of his influence on bands like the Beatles and even more contemporary bands like Green Day. The strange part is that as influential as his music clearly is, it is not as interesting as what he inspired. This album is good and enjoyable to listen to for what it is, but I likely won't spend much time with it. It is good to listen to mostly to put him and his influence in context, but I have heard enough.

I enjoyed this one. I also enjoyed the Spotify autoplay that came on afterwards.

On the one hand, it's a pleasure to hear a bunch of new-to-me Elvis songs - I think I'd only heard "Fever" before. On the other hand, that's perhaps an argument against this specific album being included on the list? Or, I dunno, maybe it's an argument _for_ its inclusion.... 🤷 Fave track - as well as "Fever" which, c'mon, he does a good job of, I'll pick "Such a Night". I see some other reviewers mentioning "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" but I guess that was a bonus track - not present on my version, anyway, and I was interested to learn that that song's been around since the 20s, it's not Elvis' own!

fever è di Elvis? spettacolo
