Reviews (page 7 of 8)
She has a good voice, but this is not my music.
Not sure why this is included, was okay nothing special.
First half was ok, back end was mediocre
Listenable enough production, but pretty unremarkable and unmemorable songs. I thought I’d like this more but it came off as artsy rather than catchy.
MEH
Not too much to say about this album. Listened to it while cleaning and didn’t realize it had looped back and replayed a couple tracks.. nothing too bad about the album but it was just so… blah. 2.5/5 but rating down as I wouldn’t listen again and don’t feel I will be missing out
Great powerful messages throughout but the music itself lacked a lot of energy and power to match that, making it get boring quite quickly
Too many interludes
4/10 - it was alright. I’m not the most into r&b ehich I think think this is. I lik f the song with sampha a little bit but the rest were ok to bad.
Not for me
Yes she's got a very decent voice, I like it a lot but I doubt it's any better than dozens of solid, professional session singers. No way does she get a recording contract if she's my sister & all other things being equal - and this album REALLY needs to lose the voiceover interludes. I haven't the heart to give it 1 star & consign it to the Atrocity Bin with all the rap, hip hop, roooooooaaar, & 'American rock group' shite but it absolutely is pisspoor I'm afraid.
Felt way too long and not great. There has got to be better music from 2016
There is nothing about this album that could justify being on this list
I enjoyed it but my mind wasn't blown away.
R and B. Some songs felt like they had a Frank Ocean influence. Not really any stand out tracks to me.
Better than I thought it’d be
More 'new' music on the chart (anything inside the last 20 years). Of course it's popular with the young chicks but this cult of the new is like a merry-go-round without any consideration to what is really innovative or special. Having said that I didn't dislike it and in fact think it's a good direction. But not that special.
high 2 or low 3. nothing super standout
Decent voice but a poor record. The interludes were just annoying and served no real purpose. A shame there wasn't better structure to the actual music. Can't rate it higher than a 2
Didn’t realise she was Beyoncé’s sister. She has a great voice and the album tells a good story, but can’t say it was very memorable or made me want to rush back to listen again. Think we need more from modern albums to deserve a place on this list.
Destiny’s other child
Ohhhh it's Beyonce's sister. I was wondering what I was missing on why it was on the list. This isn't great.
High level production. Sterile sound. I just picture a stainless steal table in an empty grey room. Don't you Wait for Me is the first track that I find a bit interesting. F.U.B.U. has some cool bits. Overall some good lyrical content. An interesting low-key way to talk about some social issues. Just not something I'd listen to much
Beautifully produced nothing much.
I like the voice/vocals, but stylistically it’s not really my jam.
This one wasn’t for me. Felt like it was one big track of mid tempo fluff.
This album is just fine, nothing too exciting but has a general mix of soft R&B sounds.....
She's got a good voice, but the instrumentals are nothing special, and the record falls into the category of monotone.
Boring. Some good features but I just don’t get the album. Not pop enough but also not unique enough.
Can someone please, please take their food off the cat-tail.🙉 Sorry, but I´m really not into this boring r&b stuff. 1,5
This guy has a pretty unique voice. He reminds me if someone too. Can't put my finger on it
This might be a horrible take, but I think the deep message of empowerment doesn't work very well when the music accompanying is just completely generic radio R&B. Like, I get what you're saying, but I can't really take it seriously. Has a fun song or two, but I don't like this genre in general.
5/10 Highlights: Rise Weary
Artistin tyylittely toimii silloin, kun se tukeutuu pop-melodiaan. Parin ekan biisin jälkeen hän tyytyy yleensä tyyliin.
important social critique in the lyrics, but the music is just meh. . .
Too morose, edgy and flat for me. It just sounds like music-by-numbers to me, there are hundreds of young R&B acts that sound just like this. There's nothing to distinguish this from any of those. It wasn't rip your eyes off bad, but I wouldn't ever seek it out again (or anything else by her).
While some of the arrangements are musically quite interesting, it all feels quite bland and nothing really stands out. Also, the interludes add exactly nothing.
Liked some of it, mostly wallpaper for me
Got better as it went. So mellow it was forgettable, which is sad because I wanted to like this much more. 2/5
Whole Solange has a beautiful voice, the album felt a little flat without any real sense of direction. The interludes felt out of place and forced. Ok but not for me.
Un peu fade, monotone.
Not too bad
very well put together, but uninteresting to my ears.
Pretty boring. More interesting than Beyonce's 'intersectionality for basic white girls' schtick, this has some great ideas underneath it, but the music is just very middling, sadly.
An R&B album with a nice message about race and seeking respect. I liked a couple of songs, but I kept waiting for one that would break the mold and transcend the others.
Some cool little spots in this album, love the lyrical focus and the overall theme/message of the album, but seemed a little too monotone for my liking.
not really my jam
Has some cool grooves with soem really weird speeches about fake arguments lol. Wayne feature makes this a solid 2.
meh
Vond dit echtttt zo niet boeiend.. veel ook geskipt
Dismal
Not for me
Every song sounded the same. It wasn't exactly bad but not something I'd ever listen to again.
Well it just deleted all the words I had typed. Something about how it was too slow and I like my R&B to be groovier. And how I can’t listen to her for very long because I don’t like the Beyoncé superstar complex. But still good for her for hitting Jay-Z in that elevator. And I do appreciate the celebration of Black culture.
Just not my favorite type of music. It was fine but not that memorable.
Listenable, some decent backing tracks, nothing special though
Que sí, que cantas muy bien. Pero no me llama nada la atención.
Just not a big fan of the sound
This album has a nice flow but overall lacks melodic and rhythmic dynamism. I prefer her 2019 release.
Definitely agree it's pretty one note through (make it 30 minutes). Liked it more than I thought I was gonna. Still not my style tho. Will I listen to again: 0%
OK. Aber langweilig soweit.
This is not my type of music but I can appreciate the overall theme of black honor. Still only gonna give it 2 stars.
Started off very strong. Then went on to be inspiration music for teenage black girls
Today I learned that Solange’s parents have a knack for coming up with creative names for their kids, witness - her sister Beyoncé. It’s too bad that Solange’s music wasn’t more creative though as I found it quite uninspiring. The music is pleasant enough, but it just lacked any substance to me. Now that we're nearing the end of our 1,001 journey, I'm saddened by the thought that so many more deserving albums were omitted in favour of mediocrity like this.
Didn’t really get this. Well put together and Solange can clearly sing. But nothing jumped out at me so I didn’t delve deeper. Pleasant enough, but modern R&B not really my thing.
Pretty boring. almost forgot i had music on.
She has a great voice, but it's not for me. The album is a little too mellow for me
Meh, Destinys childia eri tavalla ja ilmeisesti Beyoncen siskosta kyse. Ei jatkoon.
Not my jam
I was kind of on board with this for 20mins or so but it really doesn’t do much or go anywhere. All a bit muted, sparse and whispered. Not very exciting at all.
R&B definitely has its place in the world. So do political and social messages in song. The talent is there on this album, it just did not interest me. High 2
one-note
Decent, nothing that stands out
She can sing but too much politics on this for me.
Nothing amazing on here. Point off for trying to hit Jay Z in the lift that time, the daft mare.
Pleasant enough, but not my bag.
Didn't do it for me
I waited 52 minutes, and nothing of note happened on this record. At all. This has to be the most boring album I've listened to thus far. Solange is apparently Beyonce's sister, and was a background dancer in Destiny's Child before she broke off and did her own thing. Solange has a beautiful voice, but the simplistic musical accompaniment (just keyboard, drum machine, and sometimes bass) just renders this album so bland. The message pushed through the interludes is powerful as hell, and should be heard, but dear Jesus, don't lull me into a trance, inject some energy into your music ffs. This style of music is stripped down pop teetering on R&B, which could be another thing working against it for me (I don't really like R&B music). Overall, it was such a boring record. I hope never to have to listen to it again. Time to go listen to a record with a fucking pulse. Favourite songs: Mad... I guess?? Least favourite songs: F.U.B.U, plus all the interludes (why was this a thing with hip hop /pop records?)... And other songs, but I was so bored, I didn't catch the name of them. 2/5
Les Solange de ce monde existeraient pss si y'avait pas eu d'Erikah Badu avant elle. On sent l'influence du style, mais c'est pas le même vibe R&B soul non plus. Pas mauvais, bin des interlude. Au final, juste pas tant mon style.
It's chill... And that's pretty much it...
It seems like an accomplished piece of work, thoughtfully tied together by the many, many interludes, but nothing struck me as exceptional, or particularly new. I certainly didn’t dislike it while it was playing, but struggle to recall any of it afterwards (except Cranes in the Sky, though I have heard that one before). Probably very good if you’re into soulful R&B. Personally I find it a little bland. 2.5
Good album, but not for me
Meh to the 10th power of meh. At least she actually writes a lot of her own songs unlike her sister.
2.5
I can probably think of 1001 albums that are not on this list that are better than this one.... She has a famous sister.... After I cut out all the stupid interludes the album was much nicer to listen to. Still not deserving of a spot on this list. Standout: Where Do We Go Singles: ------------------------------ Cranes in the Sky (#74 USA) 2.5
Bland and uninteresting. The hip-hop/rap bits were especially atrocious. 1.5/5
Boring.
Reverenciat tant o més que els últims discos de la seva germana, en realitat no és més que un altre disc de r&b ensopit, lletres pretencioses i no gaire cosa que aportar
2.5
Yeah nah.
I have tried about a handful of times, but I just cannot get into 'A Seat at the Table'. The production is perfect, Solange has some nice vocal phrasings, and the themes are important and interestingly covered. But I find the songs so so boring. Yes 'Cranes in the Sky' is really good, bu that's about it.
Truth be told. I have never listened to this album in full before. I know the hype and all. I just didn’t jump on the train. Sue me. Now I have. And my expectations were high. But I leave disappointed. The production is stellar. Most songs are beautifully written. Solange is a great singer. But this whole album is going nowhere. The songs have little to no room to evolve and after a few seconds of any given song you’ve heard the entire thing.
Likte enkelte element, men så blei da for masse rnb
Not a fan of R&B in general so I can't properly judge it, maybe good?? (50%)
Read the blurb and was suprised that this was so highly rated. I thought it was fairly bog-standard.
Didn’t really find this interesting. Just kinda boring.
Not my music at all and couldn't get into this.
I'll just say it. The only way she could compete with her sister was to play the serious card. It's not a horrible listen, but it's not much of a repeat listen. At least not with all the speaking parts.
Didn't really like this. I usually like neosoul but this just didn't really click with me. Felt too pop-ish
Meh
i found myself unimpressed with this album. i wanted to be fair to this album when the artist is beyonce's sister. while solange discusses empowerment and injustice and other worthy topics, the music itself is just okay. not that it's bad! it's that beautiful soul music with an updated edge with some great funk. but it isn't memorable. every song left my head as soon as it ended. as a final note, i don't care for the decision to include interludes that were not performed by solange. they were all written by solange, unless if i'm mistaken, so it is her perspective. but i wanted to hear her voice--it's her album, after all.
Honestly, this album just really wasn't my jam. I appreciated some of Solange's vocal stylings here, as well as the funk aspects that lingered in this album with the soul, but really, nearly everything about this album just faded to the background. I was bored with it. I want to stress that there were some good, overt messages in here, though. The album title alone clearly communicates what this album is going to be about: addressing black prejudices and injustices. And the album approaches the topic quite palatably. Particularly, I appreciated the very easy to grasp message behind the interlude "Tina Taught Me", followed by "Don't Touch My Hair". But the point remains: for me, the message was good, but the music was boring.
Mmmm OK. Lovely voice. Buuuuuttttt really lightweight insubstantial songs/grooves with few hooks and the interludes don't make it profound. Dont get it really. Underwhelming.
Snoozefest... Amazing voices are a everywhere and this is just one more of them. She even sounds half asleep when she's singing. I hear nothing on this album except zzzzzz's...
I found this really boring
nice enough listen but nothing stood out to me. cranes in the sky is amazing but I already knew that.
Slow, pointless and self-indulgent. Like wish.com Lauren Hill.
Nope, didnt float my boat
I've been on the "Beyonce is overrated" bandwagon for years. This sucks, though... it boggles my mind why this was so critically acclaimed.
Snooze
Not my kind of music.
If I spent any time wondering why this was on the list, I would go down a rabbit hole and may never emerge again. I thought the Interludes were interesting, but the music might as well have been the soundtrack to a lifetime channel movie. Bland and meaningless. So, someone thought this was important enough to put on a list of albums that must be listened to before you die. I’ve done that now. Next!
Varsin ok poppista! Hienot soundit muttei ehkä ihan tänään mua varten. Kovia artisteja myös vierailemassa Vahva kakkonen siis. Lähellä kolmosta. 2/5
Bit too slow for my taste, most of the songs felt dull
Not for me
So incredibly boring. Which is a shame, really, because the lyrical content is so good. But everything else - the performances, production, and composition - are just so bland. In fact, the lyrics were delivered in such a soul-suckingly boring manner that I found it actively difficult to even pay attention to them. They just slid in one ear and out the other. Talk about diluting your message, sheesh.
Decent, just not my thing
It's just really not for me, just too mellow, hard not to feel sleepy listening to it.
wasn't feeling it at the start but then Cranes In The Sky came on and I was blown away everything else was meh and boring so full album is like 1,5/5 but Cranes In The Sky is a 5/5 song
I like this type of album vibe but it felt so like it was the most bland execution for it.
Pretty standard and unremarkable R&B from the sister of someone very talented
Boring and plain
I liked the storytelling, but this was boring :(
not so peculiar
Meh. Not unpleasant to listen to but, despite the punchy subject matter, the musical style is pretty slow and gentle which doesn't really work. Veers into being preachy and self-righteous. 2/5.
I actually like the interludes more than the songs. I couldn't get into this and overall found it pretty repetitive and boring.
When this album first came out and people were praising it, I didn’t quite understand why. Now having listened to it fully, I still don’t get what’s enjoyable about it. It’s pretty bland r and b. So Lange isn’t the best singer and most of the songs are very dull. I think maybe one or two I thought ok this isn’t bad but a majority of it is missable. 4.3/10
Initially I am not a fan of the beat on the first song. She has a good voice but it is drowned out by the loud accompanying music. Does have a very powerful and uplifting message.
Solange is a great singer, and the production is pretty mild but consistent, focusing attention to her voice and her lyrics expressing her strong discontent with racism and her thoughts on women's values in modern US. I found it to be largely boring. Her voice sounded mostly monotonous to me, not expressing the emotions she writes about. She tries to be a poet at times, and those lines don't exactly hit. Most of the tracks are forgettable, with the only memorable characteristic tending to be an overtly repeated chorus. I didn't like Lil Wayne's contribution, either his voice nor his rap. I did like the funkier songs like "Where Do We Go." Q-Tip appears in "Borderline," but I was just disappointed his role was reduced to a barely noticeable back vocal. I also didn't like the serious nature of the album. The interludes touch sensitive topics, but they're not expressed in a new or interesting way, instead just reiterating issues that are already discussed and known about in our society, and I'm sure anyone listening to her music isn't the audience to learn anything new from this. I'm not saying it has to be entertaining, but when the purpose of the interludes feel like they just want me to agree with them, rather than for any entertainment, reinforcing values is not the purpose I listen to music. At the very least teach me a unique perspective to think about. This wouldn't be such a big issue if they weren't every other song. It felt more interruptive than enhancing.
Not super annoying but also didn't particularly enjoy it. A bit boring and doesn't belong in this list imho.
For an album that appears to blend soul, hip hop and maybe a little funk it falls really flat and in essence is just a well recorded watered down version of those genres. The interleave of the spoken word doesn't evoke any emotion or feelings either, it seems rather pointless and makes the album disjointed. Overall It's just bland and boring. I guess the bar is so low for music made in the 2010s that this is considered a must listen before you die.
I was impressed by her voice but didn't really like the songs.
Not quite R&B. Not quite Soul. Not quite good.
I'm with the reviewers that say, "Sounds nice, good message, but oh so boring."
Seriously?!?!
Fine enough. Not sure I HAD to hear it
bem íntimo, caseiro e contemporâneo.
Pretty voice, just not my style of music
Important subject matter, but delivered in such a bland, unremarkable way that it makes me not want to care. The features are by far the best parts. Also, interludes? What is this, 1994? Best track: Mad
Not for me but I understand the representation
some good in there, but did feel a bit kitchen sink at times.
a couple of interestig tracks. generally can't be arsed with r'n'b though and although alternative, it's still just a person with a very good voice singing stuff about sexy times and feelings. still shits over anything produced by the more famous sister though.
I would’ve won that elevator fight.
Interesting
Sonidos muy suaves, letras muy profundas y una armonía perfecta. Sin embargo, para gusto personal, queda un poco corto.
I'm back! Happy 2022. Looks like we're kicking the year off with a bang, baby! Kidding. Unless we're talking Omicron. Anyway, nothing here really stood out to me at all except for the song "Junie." I have no doubt that lyrically there's all kinds of interesting commentary here. Some of that seeped into even my own cracker-white brain. But musically? Just felt kind of meh and blah to me overall. Happy New Year?
mehh
love the intro and the song weary is just magic. love how weary plays straight into cranes in the sky. don't you wait drums gave my 80s vibes at the start, think there was too much audio use, really enjoyed don't touch my hair, has a good vibe and feel and message. really liked the start of where do we go but the rest of the song wasn't my favourite. genuinely sick of this album, 21 tracks is a bit ridiculous, every song starting to sound the same. dragged on way too much.
Would constantly look at my phone and wonder if it was the same song (bar the interludes). Just not my style
Que sí, que cantas muy bien. Pero no me llama nada la atención.
I'm usually not up to date with current music, so I didn't know Solange at all. I started out very positively surprised, thinking "this usually isn't my type of music, but there's a lot of soul in here and it's really well-made, possibly 4 stars." But those stupid interludes ruin the album. They completely disrupt any sense of flow or even continuity, which is particularly bad for an album that could otherwise count "soothingness" and "reflectiveness" to it's strengths. That already takes the album down to 2.5 for me - rounded down because the tracks Mad and Junie were incredibly bad and had to be skipped halfway through. A shame, this one really had high potential!
Not my style. Tolerable sometimes
Some nice tracks, I like the features. The whole thing is a bit too sparse for me though, not enough going on. Maybe if I were in a different mood
First listen. Never heard of her before. Nothing stood out to me on first listen. Need to hear more.
Solid, might relisten to a few songs
Showed promise a bit and definitely better than the natural Beyoncé comparison. Nothing special beyond normal RnB and a bit similar to Janelle Monae. Bit self righteous.
don't get the hype. any of it.
Not that interesting. Goes on and on and on. No standouts
Соул не моё
Its ok, but really boring
its okay, liked two or three songs
Not my cup of tea but I understand why someone might like it.
Cool chill but not my style.
2.5
To slow
Not for me. Parts of the album was interesting but pretty bland to my ears.
I just don't get the hype...
I liked the concept of the album, but the music itself, not so much. It's mostly beats and vocals, and there wasn't a single memorable melody that I want to go back and listen to. I think I liked the interludes the most...
This was an ok album. Not necessarily into the genre of music
While I didn't enjoy the music I did think it had a great message and really enjoyed the vocal interludes. 6.3/10
Et album man hører på i et bortgjemt rom når man planlegger revolusjon. Ikke helt min type musikk, litt for kjedelig egentlig. Alt for lite trøkk.
Sounds great but we’re are the songs? Didn’t hate it but immediately forgot it. Fur coat no knickers
Black music for black people.
Isn’t music supposed to stir different emotions? This is cold and soulless- no doubting the voice but that voice needs better songs
Best aardig, maar ga 'm toch nooit meer draaien...
De plaat is voorbij gekabbeld tijdens het werk zonder dat ik me er echt bewust van werd.
Really not for me
Some nice sounds
This has no fucking place on this list
The album cover is a perfect encapsulation of what this album is... Solange in front of a big load of beige. She's an unexceptional vocalist singing to unexceptional music.... why is this here?!
A Seat at the Table is slow, minimal, introspective R&B — Solange processing identity and race over sparse beats. Important themes. The music itself is a woman vocalizing over production that never quite arrives. 1/5 — the message is there. The songs aren't.
Fome
Langweiliges Gequietsche! Wirklich furchtbar! Wer hört sich so ein Gejammer an?
Meh
Boring album with too many interludes.
Not my thing.
Who? Beyonce's sister? Never heard of her or heard her. Really cool cover, what the f...?! Pure pop drivel whispered to me until I dozed off from boredom. "Cranes In The Sky" has 189M listens, why?! Do these people not have ears? She obviously cannot sing upbeat songs with range, it's all done in a super small vocal wheelhouse. At this point, I'm so irritated by this list. I haven't heard a deserving Top 1001 album in weeks -- this is what they do to prisoners when they're torturing them for secrets. 1 star. So utterly boring and downtempo. This wouldn't make anyone's Top 2002.
2026.05.18
Her music is fine, just not for me.
musica de niñas, chill, casual, nada de mi estilo, 1/5
Message is fine but this reinforces that I don't like this type of music
Many albums i’ve listened to were set in different cultures, like most hip-hop and country music, but I still enjoyed the music and understood the message. This album, though culturally different, I did not enjoy. Probably the best thing about this album were the beats. Everything else on this album fell flat. There was no discernible melody and it was so subdued as to be sleepy and boring. However, she’s a vast improvement over her sister.
Not for me
didnt really enjoy this on AM top 100 either, maybe the message is just missed on me but i just felt like this dragged a lot. I say this as someone who would actively describe themselves as "woke" but this kinda feels like its here because its "woke" and not because its a good album. i find the songs to be just a bit boring and dont really enjoy her voice that much 1/5
Not for me. Ordinary at best. Nothing new. Pseudo racism wisdom inserts to pad it out.
Soft-spoken alternative R&B built from airy synth pads, minimal percussion, warm bass pulses, and spacious, uncluttered production, paired with hushed, intimate vocals, moves like sitting alone in a quiet room after a long day—calm, deliberate, and emotionally focused, prioritizing mood and reflection over immediacy or dramatic release.
Like all the latter-day Beyoncé albums, this is the dull, navel-gazing bullshit of people privileged by their fame and class trying to make "art" without thinking too hard about what art actually is. Better than Beyoncé's crappy albums, at least.
This is ass. Nice voice but she’s just doing stuff with it with no intention or structure
Destiny Childs lite? No thanks.
Even with 3 breaks, I found this album interminable. Solange's singing style is fine enough but her voice is so thin. She doesn't demonstrate she is capable of anything bigger and more dynamic. This becomes grating especially with a 51 minutes long album. You wonder if this was over praised due to her last name being Knowles. The production is pretty good but seems wasted here.
Didn’t listen
Boring AF
TPAB if it fucking sucked:
👎🏻
"If you don't understand my record, you don't understand me, so this is not for you." Fair enough. But since I had to hear this before I died, I'll give it a review anyway. Maybe as an artistic statement this would be OK, but musically speaking, it's not particularly interesting nor enjoyable. I don't think we've had another album whose songs felt THIS samey over and over again. Furthermore, I get that the interludes are adding context to the songs, but if the songs, themselves, were stronger, then there wouldn't be a need to prop them up so blatantly. We've seen this interlude/skit formula a number of times now, and in all cases, it just ends up derailing the flow and detracting from the overall experience. So yeah, I guess I don't understand this; ergo, this was not for me. Here. You can have it back now.
I couldn’t really get out of my mind that these were songs AI created if you asked. It all felt so repetitive, and generic. A superficial approach to topics that should have more weight to it. Disappointed in this one.
seriously ??
Artiste inconnue. Rien d'original dans cet album terriblement long (21 morceaux !). Sa voix est plutôt agréable mais l'accompagnement ne présente rien de bien intéressant. Je me suis très vite ennuyé, tellement vite que je ne suis pas allé au bout. L'album sera vite oublié. =>1/5
not for me
No
Nope.
This is #day443 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… what the actual fuck is this? Ah, Beyoncé's younger sister, I see. One of the key words under this record is "smooth." As smooth as my shit in the morning, I'd say. There's no way you must hear this before you die; I couldn't even get through it. Welcome to the same shelf her older sister landed on a couple of months ago. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day444.
#740. Damn. This is way worse than I expected. And I didn't really expect much. 1/5: yikes
1/5 RnB, Soul and Pop really aren't my vibe at all, this album is mainstream and very boring. Solange has a nice voice, but that's already everything positive I can say. Not a single song of this album was catching my attention. The will to skip through her songs and eventually start a different playlist was stronger than listening to this. I tried, but I'd rather listen to Taylor Swift. Also why tf does this have 8 Interludes?! The only thing they add is playtime. Should've read the bio first, the amount of times you find "Beyonce's sister" in it is a huge red flag.
🥱
Nice voice. Not my kind of music. But, pleasant.
This album doesn't really do it for me. I have had it on my streaming service radar for some time now, but never took to it. I don't get why it's seen as a great album, and indeed it doesn't appear to be listed in the edition of 1001 albums I have on my Kindle.
Really not good, so boring despite what its singing about
2 o 1??? Que aburrido disco, misma tonada, nada de valor
Not my kind
Really not for me. Even the initial redeeming qualities faded into meh by the end.
What the duck is this shite.
Not for me this one.
Watered-down Lemonade. Not memorable at all to me.
Day550 - that sounded like i’d rather take a beating than listen again
Awful bland soul
A classic of the genre "albums without any songs". It feels like everything was built in a studio with layering "sounds" then singing "something over the top". I'm sure it's all very punchy social comment, but it's not music to listen to.
no
Why is this an album I must listen to? Having listened to it I couldn't identify one of these songs as a Solange song if you put a gun to a puppy's head
Trash
Milquetoast and white gulit.
Using other people’s struggle as a nepotism no problem is certainly a choice.
Not a huge solange fan
NO
Mdern music is rubbish. Gave up after 2nd song.
All songs look the same. The interludes are a piece of shit.
Falta variedade, tanto sonica quanto lirica. É bem background music mesmo, Riachuelo-Core. Playlist-Filler. 1/5
She has a decent voice, but I just didn’t find any of this interesting. And while I kind of understand what she was going for, I find any album that has to have some spoken part between every song irritating. I want to listen to music. Besides, isn’t music meant to be a vehicle to express one’s thoughts, beliefs, and feelings? If you need some guy to explain it, maybe you need to write better, more expressive songs.
did not listen
Not terrible but just not my kind of music
Respectfully - no thank you. There are like 30 songs on this album
Well I managed to make it half way through the album...... and that's about the best thing I can say about it. Overproduced. No discernable talent displayed. Generic genre fluff. I would go as far as to say a cynical release based on the fact that they know people will buy it/listen because of who her sister is. Awful.....and most definitely NOT an example of how wonderful, varied, brave, and challenging music can be. To summarise, in case i was too polite: I didn't like it.
She sucls worse than beyonce. Glad she is not being pushed to the pop culture amymore.
The Blacker The Berry al da je dosadan rnb album. Dodaj oskudni lyrics i refren koji ces otpjevat na 10 razlicitih nacina kroz pjesmu, genericni klavir i malo promijeni beat i dobit ces svaku pjesmu na ovom albumu. Najzanimljiviji dio ovog albuma je bio interlude. Produkcija je okej i guess. Fav tracks: Junie 2/10 = 1+
I'll sit at a different table, thanks
This album was self-absorbed shit. “Oh, it’s original”. Bullshit. It’s just shit. Solange can do so much better.
Not good
Mediocre at best. Uninspired beats. Bland lyrics. Mind-numbingly banal melodies. This sounds like someone's middle school amateur attempt at music. Don't bother.

I don't see why I needed to hear this before I die. Got bored after the second song.
1.5 she has a great voice but most the songs just ain’t good
There's nothing to rate here. There are no highs, no lows, just flatlining through the whole thing. No emotion, no excitement, she's trying so hard to be soulful but it's empty from start to finish. It's bargain bin Lauryn Hill, AI concocted Sade, heartless, soulless, pointless.
It was simple
Never heard anything of this women before. Looking at the album cover initially thought that someone had thrown clothes pegs over her head and wondered if there was a travelling person (G—-y) connection. No sign of that and from my own personal point of view no enjoyment either. My wife mentioned the other day that she needed some clothes pegs but was struggling to find some. Makes you think doesn’t it? 1/5 7/9/24
Never heard this before. I know that I'm not the target audience but this album is mind-numbingly bad. Insulting lyrics. The attempts at political statements through the interludes aren't bad on their own, although they aren't particularly revelatory or insightful. Their inclusion seems disingenuous alongside lyrics like "I tried to drink it away, I tried to put one in the air, I tried to dance it away, I tried to change it with my hair"
Beautiful talented woman, great voice, sucktastic album. There is not a single part of this mess that is enjoyable.
There is nothing about this album that makes me want to listen past the first 30 seconds of the first track.
Solange’s A Seat at the Table showcases her distinct voice and thoughtful lyrics, but the album ultimately feels somewhat dull. While her voice is undeniably smooth and evocative, the music lacks the dynamic energy that might have made it more engaging. The messages throughout the album are powerful and relevant, addressing themes of identity and empowerment with sincerity. However, the slow tempo and minimalistic arrangements can make the tracks blend together, resulting in a monotonous listening experience. Despite the album’s introspective qualities and strong lyrical content, it struggles to captivate and maintain interest. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 0 STAND OUT TRACK - None
So far to me pretty boring, not my cup of tea
Utterly devoid of anything interesting
Boring, one track would have been too much
Boring, uninspiring, forgettable, there's nothing about this that I found enjoyable. Horrible album cover.
Not my thing
Double nope
Sounds like very generic pop album for me
Vilket jävla sömnpiller.
Booooooring
Wow this is boring. Just the same all the way through, never does anything interesting, or takes any risks. Her voice is so monotonous, which is a shame because I think it had potential. Every song sounds exactly the same, and there is nothing that makes each one unique. And this album has an absolutely ungodly number of interludes. As if it weren't already boring and pointless enough, I now have all of those to sit through too.
This album has the dubious distinction of being one of the very few I couldn't make myself finish. Aggressively boring.
This album has a lot to say about race - a lot of dumb things, and boring things. The music is secondary to the message, which I don't care about. They specifically say this shit isn't for me, and I agree. I'm not supposed to like it, and I don't.
I did not like this album at all
Just hate solange
Well that was trash.
I survived few songs, but it was all too quiet, too slow, too boring. I don't feel like it was "artistic", or innovative. Just ordinary boring pop album.
I don't want to
No likey.
Standout Tracks- "Don't You Wait," "Where Do We Go" Lyrics/Vocals- 2/5 Instrumentals- 1/5 Vibes- 3/5 Overall- 1/5 R&B is not really my thing, so already that was difficult, but I went into this with an open mind. And while the lyrics were beautiful, I found the style of the vocals detracted from the lyrics. The instruments were also very boring, each song kinda blended into the next and none of them stood out. I wanted to enjoy this album, but I just couldn't wait for it to be over.
Nice that her sister got her a job, I guess.
I know what it’s for and why it’s here but forgive me, I just did not enjoy the music.
Wow. Astonishingly bland. But I guess little sis would not be ignored.
Beyonce light: Solange's "A Seat at the Table" is a weak attempt at earning personal recognition. Based on the title alone, it sounds like Solange is trying to prove to the world she is her own singer/songwriter/performer, to define her own place in the world and not just live in the shadow of her older and much more successful sister. While the sentiment is understandable, this album does not meet par. The album is very underwhelming. Solange's music gives uninspired vibes - a cheap mimicry of Beyonce's style and sound with half-baked social commentaries. With this album, Solange earned her seat at this table (https://wonderboxjo.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/little-tikes-large-picnic-table-primary.png).
Whoever put this on this list should be embarrassed
Neo-Soul is one of the genres that just annoy me (except Tyler, The Creator) and idk why
I'm guessing this album was included in the list to demonstrate that having a famous and musically gifted sister doesn't translate into personal success. Neither original, nor clever, nor profound this album is Solange's clay-ashtray version of a number of musical tropes clumsily shoe horned together. I'd expect more from any artist, and a lot more from the people she would have had access to - the whole thing feels lazy and token. Regarding the interludes - Musicians can sometimes be a source of wisdom and help the endeavour for peace, but the overwhelming majority are self-satisfied airheads with an axe to grind - this is the second one. Assume I gave it 0 stars, but that's not an option.
Fuck no..this is terrible... who made this list?
I tried to listen to it and none of it stuck with me. I didn't like it.
mid
Hope others like it, because this album certainly isn't for me.
No real substance to this album so far, the most popular song (Cranes in the sky) makes me want to fall asleep. The interludes kind of stink. The beats are very one note and as basic as they come. This album felt like it took an eternity to come to an end. Won't be revisiting this any time soon.
Oh, its that whiny vocal style in front of mediocre song writing and its way too long. All the anti-boxes ticked
This was really boring. Each song sounded so similar to each other, and her voice bored me. Definitely not my type of music.
Well that was boring. I had no idea who it was until I read wiki, but I knew something was up when the album cover was just a picture of such a plain jane. Yeah I'm a pig for pointing it out, but that's just not how the entertainment industry works. You don't get to plant your wholly unremarkable face on an album cover like that unless you've received a solid leg up, ya know? Anyway it was just lo-fi r&b that droned on for a FAIR WHILE. Artsy and directionless. Interludes that the media would call brave (probably the reason the album didn't instantly disappear like other vanity projects do). Guest appearances by rappers with the IQ of river mud ("put dat drank in dat red cup thurrrrr"). I gave Madonna a 1/5 yesterday but that album at least had a dance beat. This didn't even have that. 1/5.
Soooooooooooo bad. This is the definition of a 1
Beyonce sucks and this is even worse. This only exists because of another shit pop singer and it's obvious. I'm hard pressed to think of a worse record on this list. Why is this on the list of 1001 records I HAVE to hear? Wtf? I really struggled to force myself to get through this. It's all the same. It's OBSESSED with race in the weirdest way. And nothing on here is worth my time. (Or yours)
I heard the first note and immediately dread and regret the fact that there are 21 tracks of what I now expect will be modern RNB-- my least favorite genre. Some of those tracks are less than a minute, so there's no need to have a defibrillator on site. I mean honestly, if I wanted to go to church, I wouldn't be an atheist. That's really my bone to pick from RNB that I can't parse it out of gospel church music since both are so steeped in the same tradition. At one time, RNB had its own identity and then those lines at some point inexplicably blurred and the genre expired. All the Interludes were the best part because the singing wasn't very present, but even these weren't very interesting and didn't lift the album above the static. Junie and Don't Touch My Hair were the low points to me. I was surprised Q-Tip would associate with this project. Terrible for me.
I didn't like it, was ut me or the record I don't know but one of us is wrong, and I ain't apologising first.
