Genre-defining Trash Metal Album. If you like Trash, you like this. If you don't you'll probably hate it.

This is pretty awesome, even if it's not anything I'll ever regularly listen to. Very impressive to be able to hear every drum hit and guitar note in that chaos, but it is crystal clear. Fun listen.

I don’t like it, but I can understand why this would be the thing you like if you like this kind of thing.

Definitely listened to this album but it still rules. I've never been the hugest Slayer fan but this one is really good. 4.25/5

yeah metall banger! c

Not usually a metal guy. But this was solid. I ended up enjoying it.

Can music be too heavy? Nope.

One of the great thrash metal albums of all time, but it can be a hard listen for those that came to thrash late. I loved MetallicA, Megadeth and Anthrax during this time period, but Slayer was always a bit harder to fully embrace, for me. Perhaps it is a leftover from my white-bread upbringing, but while I appreciated the album and loved them in concert, This was never my go-to thrash album.

På den ene side synes jeg der er en del ikke mega memorable numre på en meget kort plade. På den anden side er overgangen mellem Postmortem og Raining Blood et af mine all time yndlings øjeblikke i metal. Stor 4

Det her holder fandme. Aldrig før har det været så meget fredag på en mandag

4 out of 5. Face. Melted.

actually loved it

The moments this album really shines for me are when the tempo drops back slightly to a point at which they can lock in so precisely that the sound is just this relentless, inevitable, collective forward motion. When it clicks, it's really compelling. When it's just too fast to be precise, I miss that feeling (just two clicks slower and it could lock back in and sound faster). But, I get the point of the extreme speed, and it's effective. Some totally brilliant drumming and solos.

Epidemic… Postmortem… Raining Blood!!! HELL YEAH!!! WHAT A FINALE!

Reign in Blood was my first time properly listening to Slayer, and it immediately clicked. The album is driven by punk impulse, but executed with the precision of heavy metal. The songs are fast, direct, and brutally efficient, sounding chaotic on the surface yet never sloppy.

The songs on this album all mostly sound the same, but it is a good song. Raining Blood is an iconic track, and one that I love. It is id music, adrenaline music. There is no intellectualisation to be had here. It just goes hard.

A pummeling, powerful record. These guys are masters of thrash for a reason And show it here. The lyrics can get a bit silly when you take a step back, but this is fast, agile, forceful music.

This kicks ass

A classic. I often find myself wishing for like even a semblance of a melody in these songs but that’s not their thing and that’s okay. A little too guitar hero for me as well but I definitely understand why this is held to the level of importance that it is. Raining blood is just a killer song. I can’t bring myself to give this a 5 but historically it probably deserves it. Also, of course, *breathes in* SLAYERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

This is more the vein I tend to listen too. Fast, brutal, and energetic.

Man I miss Jeff Hanneman's riffs

While the structure of much of this record is loose, it still remains cohesive. I absolutely adore the atmosphere that Slayer create through barebones instrumentals that never let up. Tom Araya sings like he can’t get his words out fast enough. While his singing isn’t a deep guttural growl or scream, he still manages to use his voice as a true instrument by adding substantially to the rest of the band. I like it more and more with each listen. Great stuff.

It made me want to punch a wall in the best possible way.

Heavy, fast and brutal. This is what metal should be. Not a lot of melodies going on here and the satanic stuff is eye-roll worthy but it's pretty great. From this era, still want to listen to Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets before this.

This is one of those real tests where either you get it or you don’t. Slayer is fast and aggressive and ugly and attempting to be more evil and extreme than their west coast thrash contemporaries. They do a decent job at that, so I can’t fault anyone for not vibing with it. Regardless of personal taste, the boldness and speed on this record is undeniable. Truly some incredible riffs and proto-breakdown moments that would pave the way for future metal and hardcore to come. The lyrics and aesthetic, feeding off of other bands at the time like Venom, invoke Satan and evil and the human downfall that would eventually be the blueprint for death and black metal. Despite all this, Rick Rubin’s production makes the music somewhat approachable, balancing the otherwise confrontational nature of its other qualities; this is a balance that the aforementioned Venom severely lacked. Not my favorite thrash album, but a fantastic and canonically important one. If you fuck with this record, welcome to the rabbit hole. More extremity awaits.

Kick ass death metal album. Technical brilliance in the guitar and drums department, powerful stuff. One of the best closing songs on a metal album. At 28 minutes I was actually left wanting a few more songs! 4/5

A complete smack in the face, an insane adrenaline rush. Awesome

good but not my typical speed

This record shreds and rips and leaves little behind. I enjoy the pageantry of Raining Blood over the brutality of most of the rest. It lets the song breathe so that when it kicks it leaves an exit wound. \m/

A bit samey at parts but KICKS SO MUCH ASS

"Reign in Blood" makes a change from other albums I reviewed. Every song is at least good. The bookends of "Reign in Blood" are classics, as are the tracks in between. This album is under half an hour, so it didn't get repetitive. All in all, this album was a nice surprise. 4 stars for "Reign in Blood".

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Finally some good shit. But to much instrumental parts

Great riffs, energy and vibe. Can’t stand the solos. I like quite a lot of chaotic and dissonant stuff but Slayer’s solos just don’t click for me.

Another great album from one of the Big Four of thrash metal. While the songs do threaten to blend if the album goes any longer, its extra-lean length of just 28 minutes ensures you won't get bored.

this is probably their best work, but maybe not my favorite. you can't argue with the hits, and the relentless speed of everything is impressive

Fast, intense and heavy. A few songs in the middle of the album start to blend into each other but before you know it, another iconic song comes.

Not really my taste, but definitely a vibe :)

Oh fuck yeah hell yeah. I knew the breakdown from Raining Blood before I knew the song or artist.

Not my thing, but it goes hard and doesn’t overstay its welcome at all.

A bit repetitive (funny to say for a 27 minute long album), but Raining Blood is such a killer song.

Interesting to think that this came out during the height of the satanic panic. I thought this album was interesting but some of the songs felt a little one-dimensional. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5

aaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhh

JES! Vihdoinkin se tuli sieltä. Kyllä tää on herkkua. Kaikki toki tietää Slayerin paras levy on Seasons, mutta aisaaaaatana kyllä rässi on aina rässiä! Henkilökohtainen mielipiteeni perustuu kyllä varmaan nostalgiaan ja livekokemuksiin. Todellisuudessa varmaan nelosen levy mutta femma tekis mieli antaa! 4/5

This was a fine enough pedal-to-the-metal thrash album with some solid tempo play. I feel like where this really shines is in the rhythmic sections where the rhythm guitar, bass, and drums sync with one another (e.g., intro to Piece By piece, Necrophobic, Postmortem, and the mid-section of Angel of Death). The thrashy sections are certainly propulsive, but I feel like the guitar solos are generally pretty underwhelming. Not specifically "bad," but they feel messy and wandering with no clear arc or resolution -- they sort of just disappear. This was a fine 28 minutes. High 3 to low 4 in my book.

Nothing like 28 minutes of straight thrash to go along with my coffee to get my Wednesday morning started. This was the perfect length album for this type of music because it could have gotten very stale if it was 45+ Raining Blood is such an iconic metal song, I love that it is the end of the album.

Banging thrash metal

Minus one point for lyrical content because it's decidedly teenage level shock content, but this is the absolute definition of speed/thrash. If you're in to that style this is what everything else is based off and it's rarely been done better.

This shit kicks ass

Classic thrash album right here.

Surprisingly fun work album. Great way to get through a tough day.

Speed and aggression. Some of the most iconic metals riffs. Super clean vocal too for all the shouting. 4/5. PS Blew my mind how super chill the lead singer is off stage.

3.7 pretty metal wish I had more time to bake in it. Cause deff some riffs and segments that stood out.

I'm a metal head, this is a classic, even though I prefer something more melodic. Still worth a listen.

I very disturbing point of inspiration, with the overall message exposing evils rather than supporting them. Through the discomfort is a very competantly-made, interesting and heavy thrash metal album. That moment of dissonant guitar whines that transitions between Postmortem and Raining Blood is *chefs kiss*." I'd like if there was a bit more variety in the middle of the album sonically, and would have preferred the concept to be more general and less specific, however those reservations aside i still left this album impressed. 4/5

Metal, my lord. Or heaps punk? I’m opening myself to more metal trying not to hold everything to the satirically extreme standard that is Dethklok. So I like this album. Objectively I’m getting a lot of punk in it, and while it’s also obviously metal, I cannot deny the punk side shining through. The delivery of the lyrics in particular feels like a punk band just shouting shit out rather than the melodious metal style that other bands rock with. It adds to the grit, and a 28 minute album and 2-3 minute songs screams punk. Maybe 3.5 is more accurate but the vibes were strong so jumping to 4.

I wasn't sold on my first listen of Reign In Blood and I ended up giving it a 2/5 due to it being a lot heavier (more guitar chugging, more double bass drumming, less melody) and darker (themes of Satan, murder, dismemberment, and Josef Mengele) than the other metal albums I've come to enjoy from the list. Well, I've been revisiting Iron Maiden, Megadeth, and Metallica a lot lately and figured I should give this one another go. Not sure if I'm just in a better mood for it, but I enjoyed it enough to come and edit my previous review!

3.5 - Good

Still one of the scariest albums I have ever heard, though the sound is fantastic. A distinct memory of seeing them live on Easter Sunday, and Tom Araya chuckling to himself as he introduced one of the Hail Satan! songs

Fun album that I enjoyed listening to but songs bleed into one. Lyrics are bit cringey

Exactly what this record needs to be. Love how the songs feel like they completely lose time during the solos. Got to work in record time this morning, heart rate still hasn’t recovered.

The instrumentals are a riot, love that it’s a lean mean 29 minutes. Struggle with the vocals/lyrics. I could see this one growing on me with more listens. UPDATE: relistened while lifting weights, bumping it up to a 4

Kickass album, though it feels a bit too monotonous in certain moments. The drums, oh, the drums...

Well, that was alright.

Very good for what it is but not my jam. Sorry.

Ah, Slayer: greater than Megadeth and Metallica combined. And certainly more intense and faster than anything before, and to some degree afterwards. I had a friend in high school who loved them, and while I couldn't really ever get into the raw thrashness of it all, I could see their appeal (although I think this was before this album). It's pretty much impossible to say that I liked some of the tracks more than others, but I thought "Criminally insane" (both versions) and "Raining blood" had the most interesting structure of the lot. I also *really* appreciate the short-and-sweet nature of the songs and album overall, especially right after the epic four-volume Gershwin-o-rrhea by Ella Fitzgerald. Without reading the Wikipedia entry for this album, I probably wouldn't have realized that Rick Rubin's insistence on avoiding reverb or really any sound effects made a *huge* difference in how intense and crispy clean the whole album sounds, a huge contrast to other metal albums of the time. I also love it that among the various (and surprisingly numerous) artists that have covered "Raining blood", Tori Amos chose to take a stab at it (and even Slayer band members could barely hear their own song in her version, which rightfully ranks up there as one of the best metal covers by non-metalheads). I also love it that "Raining blood" is also considered one of the hardest (if not the most difficult of all) songs to play in the Guitar Hero franchise. I can't even imagine trying anything off this album, to be honest.

FFFOKKKKKK! Raging thrashing pummelling all out assault your ears and brain metal. Crushing it I actually kinda liked it.

Quintessential listening if you like Metal or Thrash. I think this album is definitely up there with the top Metal albums of all time, and you can see that it is the antecedent for a lot of sub genres that come after. Also, how can you beat that opening track? You can't!

Woohoo Great when you are in the mood

Consistent but sounds the same throughout. Top track: Raining Blood

Energetic and poetic but I don’t think I could listen to it all day

Great energy. Usually not something I would listen to but this is well worth a place on this. Almost a 5

Classic thrash. Book ended by legendary tracks the rest is relentless riffing and a full on assault. I prefer 'seasons in the abyss' but this is still quality especially in context of the time.

🤘🤘🤘🤘

no joke, yesterday I looked up and listened to Raining Blood because I hadn't heard it in forever and thought of it randomly. I wondered if this album was on the list. yes, yes it is. and I loved it as much as I always have. it will always remind me of the Pedro Winter interview where he mentions Raining Blood and him and the interviewer just sit and headbang along to it.

For today's 1001 albums to hear before I die, I got an album I have been wanting to hear for some time but never got around to on my own. Today I got Slayer's Reign in Blood, and I couldn't be more pumped to be rocked by this project. I also had no idea Rick Rubin of all people helped out with the making of this project, because damn did dude have good taste in Metal if he helped out here. If you want to hear some killer 80s Metal that doesn't feel cheap or watered down this is definitely the shit you should be looking for because holy hell does this album feel like a 28 minute long rollercoaster, and one I really got down with. Thrash Metal has always been one of my favorite Metal subgenres because of just how much the guitars get to shine through as their own lead singer of sorts. Thankfully it isn't just the shredding that is incredible but the vocals, drum work, and overall pace of this project all feel so synched up to create one killer album. This thing beats you down and doesn't hold back but you can't help but enjoy yourself as you go through the ass-whooping of a lifetime. If this is how good Slayer is in their early years I am definitely going to have to come back and listen some more as I had a great time all around. Definitely should have gotten to this sooner but I am glad I got to it now.

Não é meu estilo, mas gostei, estou ouvindo 5h da manhã manhã pois perdi o sono kkk

Great thrash album, one of the classics

The heaviest of thrash metal's 'Big 4", and Slayer's defining album. Fucking Slayer

Lots of energy. Short songs for a short album. No excess.

Duelling angry guitars at 300 mph. What’s not to like?

Thrash isn’t really my thing, but I quite enjoyed this. It’s not going to be in my top 20 all time favourite albums, and it sounds pretty similar throughout. But I enjoyed the vibe of it. Blows Anthrax and Megadeth out the water!

slayer coming in today with a real quickie. it's not even thirty minutes in length! hope you like headbanging at extreme speeds... this album came out at the perfect time, especially with all the wary, anxious individuals and the satanic panic that was quite rampant throughout the 80s. the subject material is typically dark, songs about death and religion and blood and all that jazz. feel free to sacrifice maidens and lamb as you blast this album. it's so fast sometimes i can't keep up! thanks for the fish uncle jobel.

When it’s good it’s very good.

Better than coldplay

Heavy, satanic thrash metal that's basically what early Metallica would sound like if they had a competent drummer and more versatile singer

You know what you are getting with Slayer, a bunch of songs that sound the same and a couple that fucking slap. Without Raining Blood or Angel of Death this album would be mediocre but with those two bangers, we get one of the most classic heavy metal experiences of all time. FUCKING SLAYER!!!

There is plenty of metal that is too grotesquely, stupidly violent and aggressive for my tastes (Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, etc.) But I find bands like Slayer and Death quite enjoyable. Love the rhythmic, technical drumming and the quality of the guitar playing. Only flaw for me is that some of the tracks here are a bit too similar. But the first track and the last two are perfect

This album fills me with life. 4.5

I never bothered to listen to Slayer, so I was surprised to actually like it

I am not a big fan of Slayer but it is just good trash metal album and I can't be indifferent to it. Solid 4, almost 5

I didnt think I liked metal, but this album was pretty darn good.

Short, powerful, dumb, FUN

Eh, nothing stands out. It was fun, but very one dimensional

I’m not the most metal guy, but I can see why Slayer is so beloved. This is one of those time and place genres for me. Probably not something I will sit around and listen to alone, but it’s still good music that is both interesting and technically skilled. 4 stars for influence and ability.

I missed the whole thrash metal scene in the '80s and so, although I follow a lot of bands who were heavily influenced by the 'Big 4', I am not that familiar with many 'seminal' albums, least of all Slayer. It took a couple of listens to get this. Reign In Blood is relentless and brutal. Dave Lombardo is unquestionably a great drummer but the blast beats, from which there is little relief, can be overwhelming at first. On initial listen I was really impressed with opener "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood" which closes the album, the two tracks I was already familiar with. The former documents the horrors of Mengele's experiments during holocaust; the latter sounds like an update, at frantic speed, of "Black Sabbath" with its rainstorm SFX. "Raining Blood" is also a song which varies the rhythms to great effect. The other song that stood out was "Criminally Insane", possibly because of the relative lack of blast beats. On second listening though, once accustomed to the overall sound, and playing on room speakers rather than headphones, I was able to appreciate the nuances more (Slayer? Nuanced?). The album hits hard; you feel it in your chest. It is certainly the most brutal thrash album I have heard and there are elements of the music that obviously foreshadow the death metal scene. I'm beginning to appreciate Slayer and their importance to the development of music that I love.

I think I probably mostly like Slayer (and Pantera and similar bands) these days because they remind me of getting drunk with my beloved mate Jordan but they really do slap. Not something I put on often but whenever something like this pops up I’m pretty stoked to head bang and howl along.

SLAYER!!!!! 4/5

I never realised that metal was always like this. Granted, I'm really not well-educated on Thrash Metal as a genre but regardless this was way crazier than I expected. That's the fun of it, though. These guys are all deranged and everything from the instrumentals to the lyricism screams edgy in the goofiest way possible to me. My only real issue is the vocalist. Sometimes his brain goes faster than his mouth and that paired with how fast everything is feels like it drowns him out at some points. Maybe I'm missing the point, but this was an incredibly fun metal record.

Take that Metallica and Megadeth this is the thrash metal I was looking for.

Is there a more quintessential thrash metal album? I think not.

I’m not a metal guy, much of it sounds the same to me, but this was a good album

Fucking Slaaaaaaayyyerrrr!!!!!

An all time great metal album

Oh man this metal album was a favorite of teenage me, but I guess the older I get, the wimpier I get because I think it’s just a little bit too heavy for me. Raining Blood is one of the greatest metal songs of all time still. Regardless, still a headbanger from start to finish even if the album gives me a heart attack nowadays.

Simply put, this is the best thrash metal album ever made. I can totally understand why it may not be your cup of tea, but it's undeniably brilliant. Opening the album with a song about one of the most evil human beings to have lived is a little sus, but once you get past that this is lightning in a bottle. 34 minutes long and not a second wasted, Slayer pummel you into submission. Jeff Hanneman's riffs go and go and go. Tom's vocals are a bit hit and miss, but under the watchful wing of Rick Rubin they pull together an absolute masterpiece. This is one I regularly go back to.

N’étant pas un rabat joie j’ai trouvé très cool l’album. J’ai passé un très bon moment à l’écouter

Ca tabasse bien comme il faut, petit bémol au niveau du chanteur pour moi

Short, harsh, samey. But BANGERS.

Great thrash metal record, vocals seem a little lacking at times, but overall very powerful and aggressive

A thrash metal classic, I love this record. Despite all being the same schlock song to song I don’t get sick of it over the 40ish minutes.

What makes this album so incredible is the year it came out, 1986. The album was ahead of its time.

4.5 Quentessestial thrash. Maybe the knock would be that a lot of it sounds very similar. I had a thought if the lyrics could breathe just a bit it would help out the songs (epidemic was an example where the vocals weren't so rushed). But I guess that's not the point.

Classic metal album

So... Slayer. I've been a metalhead most of my life, but next to the rest of the big 4, I've liked Slayer the least. However, the importance, relentless energy, loud statement of one of the most honest thrash metal albums of all time can't help but make me say: - Wow. I don't like many of Slayer albums, and this isn't my favourite. I think it lacks melodic parts that make Seasons in the Abyss and South of Heaven complete triumphs for me. This is still a 4/5. For what it is, it's a masterpiece. Is it something that you can or should endure in one sitting, I don't think so, but I'll still consider this one of the greatest and most important metal albums.

All killer no filler. Can’t fault the straight up thrash metal - heavy rhythm and shredding. Although, I do prefer the ebbs and flows of Maiden / Metallica to straight thrash.

Religionslehrerschreck

It's rough, tough, and a lot of yelling. Good time

Nosta keskisormesi ylös Ota shotti, heitä se ilmaan ja älä lopeta Elän elämää pimeällä puolella Jokainen psykopaatti kohtauksessa Nosta kädet ylös ja seuraa minua sanoen (hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo) Friikkien imperiumi, kaikki juomat ovat minua Vain yksi yö lisää pikimustassa paratiisissani En halua itkeä, joten minun on halvaannettava Kehoni on aseeni, joten pidän sen ladattuna Kunnes olen kaikkialla kuin pääni räjähtäisi Älä tuhlaa rukouksiasi, ne eivät voi pelastaa meitä Sairaiden ja vaarallisten elämäntavat Nosta keskisormesi ylös Ota shotti, heitä se ilmaan ja älä lopeta Elän elämää pimeällä puolella Kuten 27 Club, kasvokuva, emme halua kasvaa aikuisiksi Elän elämää pimeällä puolella Elämä on pimeä puoli raining blood

Aahh, ungdomstid. Står seg fortsatt fint.

heavy as hell, really good thrash metal record, would definitely wanna listen to more

I feel like “Reborn” and “Epidemic” had beats and riffs that sounded exactly the same, but other than that, everything sounded great. New and original. Downright refreshing. You don’t hear this stuff on the Hot 100 too often. I like their style and believe they were able to stay true to who they are as a band which helps convey the authenticity of whatever they were saying. Cool joint, honestly. 4/5

I drive so much faster with this on. 4/5

A bit aggressive for 8AM whislt getting started for work but it was good. I can only do Slayer in small doses though. 34 minutes and 46 seconds was just about perfect.

You can like it or not, but is top on its gender. pure non stop trash 4/5

Noisy, chaotic, brilliant.

One in my listening group said "It’s a kind of album you need if you’re trying to set a personal record in dead lifting or sacrificing goats." Didn't know much about Slayer heading into this listen but I really liked this. A bit over the top and sometimes silly lyrically, but I think it came from a genuine artistic place. They were trying to capture a 'new thing'. I feel like this must have been a real kick in the teeth for fans when this came out, esp those not from the LA scene this came out of. I was thinking this came out about the same time as GnR Appetite For Destruction and that made me feel like that record was so silly - like they were often going for the same feel/aesthetic/shock but came way short. It's more accessible but less real. Another from my listening group commented "Do you know where you are? You’re in the Jungle baby! No, fuck you, you’re getting your fuckin eyes gouged out in Auschwitz, bitch"

This is good, definitely 1001 worthy but I would prefer it if it was performed by the Wurzels and called Reign In Mud and featuring enhanced classics such as Tractor Saves, Scarecrow of Sacrifice, Farmophobic, Angel Of Ooh-Arr and of course their crowning glory in Raining Mud.

another one I loved already! This album kills from front to back. Just an absolute thrasher.

It's great. It's a lot, but it's great.

fast hard gnarly could i write poetry to this? y

Это пиздец (я слышал этот альбом в первый раз). Лучшая песня - Altar Of Sacrifice. P.S. Лучшая песня с предыдущего альбома Trans-Europe Express - The Hall Of Mirrors. ФАК ПЕРФЕКЦИИОНИЗМ!

Yeaaahhh Slayer man - good good good

Way to make this one hit as hard as possible, putting it after Metallica’s black album, an hour long drag, where this as an expanded edition is a crisp 35 minutes. Banger.

Day437 - this is how i should start every monday morning

30 minutes of breakneck relentless speed thrash. Sure the lyrics are silly, and the vocals are a bit… high pitched at times but it’s a fast paced screamer of a record.

I'm just here for the guitar and drums. Which moved at a speed so fast I worried about the players. The lyrics and vocals were the low point.

I enjoyed this way more than I expected to. Just glad the vocals weren't cookie monster style as I can't stand that. And it's not good when you're laughing at the lyrics at times because they're so juvenile and trying to be edgy and dark. You listen to this for the guitar and drums, and they're excellent here.

I can see why people hate this. It strangles and pummels you and doesn't let you breathe for half an hour. But as a metalhead, this is fucking great. There's such a relentless frenetic energy to this album, packed with riffs. The solos, though not technical masterpieces, wail and scream from the guitars. Tom Araya on vocals has always been a favourite, loud and powerful without sounding like he's mindlessly shouting. His scream on 'Angel Of Death' is iconic and genuinely sounds like one of the previously mentioned solos. The band as a whole sound evil. 'Altar Of Sacrifice' has a truly monstrous demonic sounding riff. Obviously the (sort of) title track 'Raining Blood' is a classic. I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much after playing it over and over on Guitar Hero III years ago, but it still hits hard. Demonic opening with rain and ritualistic drums, great riff, really heavy headbanging instrumental breakdown in the middle, before exploding into a solo and abruptly finishing with the crashing of thunder and the patter of rain. Brilliant. It's not perfect though. Sometimes it is a little TOO fast. Unless you read along, the lyrics to tracks like 'Necrophobic' and 'Reborn' are unintelligible. Araya sounds almost comical in how quickly he tries so sing which is a trait of not just Slayer but thrash metal in general. It's not quite their best but I can absolutely see why this is the only Slayer album on this list. I personally preferred their next two albums which slow things down (slightly) and sound a bit more of a mature effort and not "look how fast we can play".

One of the greatest thrash metal albums!

Holy is this fast... just screaming, punk rock drums, and guitar solos

I had Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation...less than 20 albums ago and mentioned how much I love the Angel Of Death sample in She Watch Channel Zero?!. That track and Raining Blood (so fun on Guitar Hero) are my favorites. This isn't the type of music I'll listen to casually but occasionally I get in a mood for it. This album is most enjoyable to me when reading along with the lyrics and breaking down what the songs are actually about. They explore very interesting and complex topics that make me ask questions - I love that. I'm giving this a really high 4 only because it's not something I want to listen to all the time, but I wouldn't argue with any 5 star ratings for Reign In Blood.

Not my favorite from Slayer, but a quick and good example of how they sound at their peak.

Not my thing, but if it were, I feel like this would be very good

Hugely influential thrash metal album. I'm currently listening through a backlog of albums, out of order, and put this on after Joe Ely's "Honky Tonk Masquerade" because it felt like the biggest 180 I could make. What's really interesting about this album is how producer Rick Rubin sought them out to work with them. Rubin was previously known for helping to bring hip hop acts to the mainstream. How he ended up wanting to produce a band like Slayer, I have no idea, but it worked well for the band, as it helped them develop their sound and put "Reign In Blood" among the best known metal album of the late 80s, alongside contemporaries Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeath. Yes, it's over the top, but that's part of the very definite charm.

This is not my favourite Slayer album, but you can't deny the influence this record had and still has on metal music. Classic thrash metal album, with a great sound and some great riffs. In 1986, this was the heaviest thing. Kerry King's nonsense still makes me wanna stab my eardrum though

Thrash!

Get me adrenaline.

09/02/2025 Of all the bands doing this music at the time, this is one of the better albums to come from it.

Completely insane 30 minute album. Super awesome, but I feel like the thrash sound is overplayed just a touch. Too many of the songs sound similar to the previous ones, but there are a few standout tracks. Kinda wish I was listening to this in my teens haha.

LACERATED SKY

Heavy Classic Metal

Not a masterpiece, but a fun listen. None of the songs are very distinct from one another, but it flows really well, and I like that it’s just a solid 30 minutes of fast metal. If it were longer, I wouldn’t like it as much, but I think it works really well as a short album.

Thrash Metal. The opening track "Angel of Death" sets the scene for the rest of the album. I don't usually like Thash Metal, but this album isn't bad.

Enjoyed it

After enduring a Sepultura album a few weeks ago, I was not looking forward to listening to even a half-hour of Slayer. However, I was surprised, in a good way, as I quite enjoyed this offering from a metal genre that I usually avoid like the plague. I won't be adding it to my Tidal library any time soon, but I wouldn't mind listening to it again sometime.

Listened Before? Y SLAYYYERR!!! This is a real love it or hate it album. Personally, I love it. I also get the gripes from other reviewers about he lack of variety of sound... you have to remember though, that this was fairly early in Slayer's careers and they did improve their variety of sound and musicianship in general from here. I also disagree with people saying the lyrics are shallow... this band was producing music about forbidden topics at the height of the Satanic panic. At the time, the lyrics were bold and terrifying. Just because modern bands freely worship Satan or talk about their WAP on the radio doesn't diminish what Slayer was doing in the 80s. Added to Library? It was already there so Y Songs added to playlist: Raining Blood

classic trash

Not my usual genre but I really love this album.

Good noise

SLLLLAAAAAYYYYYEEEERRRRRRR!!!! I definitely have a soft spot for Slayer, so when I saw this album, it brought me great joy. Just a super fun thrash album, get thrown in the deep end straight away, and it's just a meshing assault for the rest of the ride. Love it.

This was not a hit with my girlfriend on Thanksgiving. Oh well. Love the gf love Slayer and only one of them will break up with me.

fathers of thrash metal

11/20/24. Simply put, this album kicks you right in the ass... but in the greatest way possible! Definitely a landmark example of thrash metal and the musicianship is outstanding.

Titans of Thrash Metal. A major influence on everything that came after them and some of their contemporaries. I never bought an album, but I respected their intensity. No real interaction with them past this... When I was in high school in the early nineties, the art teacher was a pretty chill dude. His son was a few years older than me but we were in some of the same friend circles and we had some interaction. While I never took any art classes, I would always stop by and chat with the Mr. B as he was often by his door as I was walking to another class. He was just a really nice guy with a good sense of humor. Mr. B papered the door to his classroom so that anyone could draw a bit here and there. I don't think that anyone ever abused it by putting anything TOO graphic or out of place and the paper would stay up most all year as it filled and filled throughout. In the top left quarter of the door, someone had done a Slayer namepiece along with star. I had walked by it countless times never really taking it in, but one day while chatting to the Mr. B I noticed something was off. The name was a good representation of the font but the background star was not 5 pointed. I asked, "Did someone draw a star of David instead of a pentacle for the Slayer background." He replied with, "It definitely seems so, but I don't ask any questions." I said, 'Fair enough." made my goodbyes and then headed on to class. It always stuck with me. He asked no questions, made no judgments, no critiques(other than maybe a supportive 'NICE!' here or there) on that door. It was always there for anyone to draw on and with no questions, judgments, or critiques offered...everyone felt free to do so. Plenty of people were dismissive of Slayer fans, or metal fans, or WHATEVER fans. Just dismissive in general. I wish more people were like Mr. B.

It’s thrash; one of those genres where you’re in, or you’re not. I’m in.

Take the intensity of Metallica's "Master of Puppets," or "Ride The Lightning", cut out any slower bits, and scrunch that intensity into 30 minutes (whereas early Metallica's albums are 50-55 minutes long), and that was pretty much this album. There's a couple of songs, like "Reborn" where it seemed like there were too many words for the singer to sing at the speed they were playing. But ultimately, this is hardcore metal. Definitely something I should listen to more often. It's funny but as a kid my tastes did not go to metal. But now I appreciate them more and more. Top tracks: "Angle of Death," "Altar of Sacrifice," "Jesus Saves," "Epidemic," "Raining Blood"

It’s not complex, it’s not subtle but that’s the charm

Short n sweet thrashy goodness. Grim lyrics (id lean on potentially distasteful) but iconic album nevertheless

I'm not really a fan of speed metal. I appreciate it though. The musicianship, especially when it comes to timing and speed is spectacular and worthy of the highest praise. The singing doesn't do it for me though.

Angel of Death Raining Blood

Leaf Karen has started another loud contractor project that is keeping me from working. Slayer may be appropriate.

Reign In Blood is pretty iconic and holds up in the genre nearly 40 years later, which is a big positive to me but other people might think that says something about speed/metalcore. The title track closer is outstanding, the middle run from Altar of Sacrifice to Reborn is strong, sure there's unnecessarily crude shock-value lyrics that lack nuance and that's been shown up by the evolution of metal since, but the sound is tremendous and immediately recognisable, it's a low 4 from me Clive.

This is still just as raw and moving as it was in the late 80s. We would play this at keg parties in the bronx, its the kind of album that defines your appreciation for metal. 4/5

short and sweet but also hard as fuck. perfect for a metal album

Maybe I just hate James Hetfield specifically

Well-produced and super tight thrash metal from the masters. Just an all-out frontal assault for 30 minutes and I'm totally here for it!

Such a breath of fresh air after Metallica. Fast and very aggressive, gets my blood pumping. It's probably dangerous at my age, but I'm willing to take the risk, this music is worth it

A true thrash classic.

4 Before I even started listening to this album, one of the first things that stood out to me was its length. Like, I knew these guys were on the thrashier side of metal, but 10 songs in 28 minutes is full-on punk runtime territory. Apparently, even the guys in the band were kind of surprised when they saw the final timing themselves and debated if they needed to add more. Well, thank God they did not, because while I thoroughly enjoyed this album, I thought the runtime was perfect - it’s the definition of short, sweet, explosive, and to the point, and I don’t think it needed a second more. Right off the bat, Angel of Death immediately makes you want to bang your head, break things, and then jump in the sickest mosh pit you’ve ever seen in your life. It sets up the vibe and tone of this album perfectly, and I have even more love for it because of its later sampled usage in She Watch Channel Zero?! by Public Enemy. (Give the song a listen if you’re not already familiar - it’s one of PE’s best). From there, that addictingly angsty, aggressive feeling really never subsides until the album ends, in this case with Raining Blood, a song I’m well familiar with thanks to both Guitar Hero III and virtually every haunted house waiting line. The two are far and away the best tracks here (also the two longest), and I think they’re utilized perfectly as bookends to the album. That to say, while I was familiar with both going into this, I wouldn’t have considered myself their biggest fan, but I really think hearing them within the context of this album helped me appreciate them a lot more - and really Slayer as a whole as well. I don’t really have a ton to say on any of the other songs in particular, but what they lack in remarkability is made up for tenfold with the energy they keep alive and permeate. In the future, I definitely see this as the kind of album where I’d be more inclined to listen to the full thing rather than individual songs, and with that, I gotta say, as someone who’s not normally much of a metalhead, I think I may now be a newfound Slayer fan. And it’s good timing as well, considering I’ll be seeing this group headlining at Riot Fest in like two weeks. Extra excited now! Pray for me in the pit, folks.

This is probably 1-2 songs away from being a 5 for me. Cover art is a solid 5. Slayer shreds.

Ridiculous. 14 year-old me loved it.

Best songs to play on a flaming guitar

strangely enough I enjoyed it, but wouldn't listen to it in the car.

Some fuckin sick riffs in here. The lyrics are very full on...album starts out singing about Auschwitz I think? But still...goes hard.

Come on man. It's one of the best speed metal albums of all time. There's definitely a lull in the middle of the album where a lot of the songs sound similar - but Slayer just rocks. The title track is an all-time favourite.

A true classic of the genre! Actually holds up!

This album kicks off at 100 mph and never lets up. Heavy, but still melodic. A fun listen if you love metal music.

Nice surprise though my only go-to for trash metal was Anthrax

i love that with slayer i can hear all the lyrics,

Some of the best thrash

Hail Satan!

Quite good fun. The opposite of boring, and yet quite listenable - lots of tempo changes in each track. Also distinct. Necrophobic, Criminally Insane, and Raining Blood were the best tracks.

Slayerrrrrr! \m/

Slayer entered my realm of music with South of Heaven and I would often visit earlier albums of the bands I was listening to, so this was part of that process for me. I haven't listened to this in years and I still really enjoy it. Add a little nostalgia in and this is a solid 3.75 for me.

Need to rein in my blood pressure after all that headbanging

4.2/5. listened 3x catchup on 6/24/24. best and most tight (short and sweet) heavy metal album i can remember

Las letras son todas la misma wea jaj, pero ta bueno igual. 8/10

alfa strong 4

Chad metal 4.5

Absolutely fucking classic and still rips to this day!!

The instrumentals are incredible. The vocals leave something to be desired.

Ruthless Metal relentlessly showering over you as if it were raining blood. Nice. Slay queen. Yass.

The Reign In Blood stays mainly in the Hood.

ooh you're hard

Ballert 4-5

Brutal, bombastic, unrelenting and so influential, a rough & raw classic.

A fun listen, really good energy. None of the songs really caught my ear but I was enjoying it the whole time at least

Rapide, suant, intransigeant, trop court. J'aime beaucoup.

Honestly this got me pumped to go into the office.

Metal is not usually my thing because most of it is terrible. But when its done well, like here, its really good. This album was very similar to a lot of Metallica's less popular songs. The transition from postmortem into raining blood made me sopping wet ngl and double bass rustles my britches a little. A few of the songs felt like filler but most of them were unique in their own way. The solo on aggressive protector was siq. Favorite song: Angel of death, it might've been raining blood but that song is the only one I can't beat on expert in guitar hero. Do not @

Enjoyed this. Don’t really know enough about metal/thrash music to write anything intelligent here. Take my upvote, kind stranger!

Grinding Overwatch and listening to this album was a 10/10 experience. This album goes really hard. You always hear people talking about Slayer, but you never really listen until you got a website that forces you to. and I am glad i did. Ez 4

Brutal, thrash, over the top

Really love the guitars here. If they didn't invent the death metal sound, they perfected it.

The definitive beginning of Extreme Metal. They never matched the intensity & speed of this again, with too much repetitions. Fav Track: Angel of Death

I've heard this album before, but the reason why was because the Angry Video Game Nerd pretty much said that any Slayer record could be a good replacement for DOOM music, and he ain't wrong. This album makes me want to go travel to Hell and kill every single demon I see in the most gratuitous violent way possible.

I can see why they are so popular. I do not listen to this type of music on daily basis, but i did enjoy this! 😅😆

Not only is this an important record for its time, but it's an important for metal all time. It helped build underground metal in the 1980s and was a heavy influence in the creation of death metal (which some folks say Slayer is the first death metal band).

haha what a great album. i hope the people who made it dont have extreme political views

Head bang all along

Getting a metal album on this is one of the best feelings. Not a super well represented genre on the list though. I love metal music, and I love exploring the ridiculous amount of artists there are in the space. In terms of a Mount Rushmore of thrash metal bands, Slayer definitely belongs up there. They are one of the most essential in the history and evolution of the genre. And Reign in Blood is usually considered the culmination of the best aspects of the band. This wastes absolutely no time getting going, and there is no stopping until it’s over. It’s a blistering collection of short and ferocious metal songs that pack a serious punch. The drumming and guitar work are just next level, and the speed they maintain is honestly awe inspiring. The vocals are a good mix of clean and rough. They sort of lie somewhere between James Hetfield heavy and Chuck Schuldiner heavy. And it does all of this in less than 30 minutes. It’s a powerful effort for such a short amount of time. But honestly I think the album suffers a little bit from being so short. For me personally, a lot of listening to thrash and death metal is what I like to call pattern recognition. I often have to listen to these songs multiple times to really get what makes them so good, because everything moves so quickly. And so when the majority of the album is composed of 1 to 2 minute long songs, I’m barely beginning to like the song before it’s over and I’m moving on the next one. This is why the first and last song are by far the best. They are the longest, and spend the most time really developing the riffs and rhythms. But this is still a fantastic piece of work from one of metal’s most foundational bands. Rating: 7/10

SLAYEEEEEEER!

Half an hour on full speed. They're really thrashing through this album. QUite good but I cant listen to it often.

Thrash had always been too chaotic for my taste. Raining Blood is a banger though

Fast Aggressive. loud. angry. its everything you want from Slayer. and if you do not know then this is a great way to get to know them. Angel of death and Raining blood are amazing songs that changed music. the opening riff of raining blood is instantly recognizable. by the standards of deathcore and DEath metal the lyrics are clean.

Some good songs

Instrumentally it’s clear Jeff Hanneman and Kerry King can write a riff. It’s clear Tom Arayas vocals tear through ever song, goofy ass lyrics aside. I think that might be the one negative. The words come across as cringey, bad satanic/fantasy novel nonsense. Regardless their rips and shreds. I mean…it IS Slayer.

Ok, i guess a lot of people hear never listened to real heavy metal and death metal before. This is a classic heavy metal album and deserves its spot in the metal hall of fame. It set the grounds for death metal. I know this isn't for everybody (not my favourite metal genre also),but...Just because you don't understand the music you don't have to sh*t on it :)

Great way to get pumped before school, now it got me amped for work.

Rating: 9/10 Amazing album, definitely a classic thrash metal album. The energy and passion throughout this album is almost unrivaled. There are plenty of groovy and heavy riffs and the drumming is blisteringly fast. It is very one-dimensional however; the best songs are the ones that are a bit longer and groovier and don't always have the same style of thrash metal riffs and drumming. Favorite songs: Angel Of Death, Altar Of Sacrifice, Jesus Saves, Criminally Insane, Epidemic, Postmortem, Raining Blood. Worst song: Reborn.

Oh! That was a brief surprise, seeing this pop up in the browser window. But of course, it belongs in here. Now, for the caveat. I was quite the Metalhead as a teenager, with checkboxes ticked for two of the Big 4, however Slayer had always been a bit too much and I had never listened to Reign In Blood front to back. Now that I do... maybe it's been too little🤔? I respect and appreciate the intense, relentless pounding - it's the point - but half an hour of it as, y'know, *music*? Araya's recitals? And I can't divorce myself from hearing this in 2024, 38 years later: Like, my brain wants to grab onto something here that I find genuinely enjoyable, today, but there aren't a whole lot of interesting bits to work with or they fray immediately. That's probably the point, too, in an album about death and suffering, but honestly, it's an 'eh' from me. Rounding up for the impact Reign In Blood deservedly had.

Pretty great guitar riffs.

This brings me back to my youth! Haven't listened to Slayer in ages, and it's not really my current jam, but for the style of music and the time? Instant classic.

Heavy, but not too boring.

First time actively listening and it was quite enjoyable. If my angsty teen brought this home I’d certainly ruin it by giggling at the ‘hail Satan’ bits. Really enjoyed this. Wish it were twice as long, though.

I heard Raining Blood many years ago on Guitar Hero, but it was only recently that I realised the album name is actually Reign In Blood. I do love a good pun. Wouldn’t have guessed that Slayer likes them as much as me. Songs I already knew: Raining Blood Favourites: Raining Blood, Angel Of Death What an absolute half hour of power, bookended by some real crunchy guitars. There is the odd high pitched scream that I’d usually attribute to power metal (I think I commented that with Anthrax recently too) which admittedly did make me giggle, but overall this was very easy to enjoy. I was surprised when Raining Blood started playing - I knew that into straight away and knew it was the final song, and didn’t want the album to be over.

I didn't listen to slayer much when i was young but a friend took me to 2 concerts. Im still not a huge fan but i enjoy their riffs and the fast pace. I still think the solos are the worst part (i grew up as a solo guitarist). I don't think i have listened to a album the whole way through but i realise that most songs kinda sounds the same on this album. Still enjoyed it might be a bit biased though. As for the imagery and lyrics really shows they knew that it is easier to gain listeners through shock, mysticism and controversy. It is and still is an effective market strategy and they knew it. But i get why people are put off to it but it's the same as a horror movie in a sense.

classic tunes!

Energy's a given, and there; The real measure of a band is what they can layer in. Here, Slayer put new tone above, and obviously; It's a great effect for Rein In Blood, equal counterpoint to the edgy facade.

These are the sounds of the devil himself, and they slap.

Loved it! Just what I needed to get me going in the morning!

Slayer is still probably one of my least favorite thrash bands in terms of vocals (except maybe early megadeth) but this album far surpasses peace sells and is easily in league with master of puppets and rust in peace for me. I immediately added the title track to my hype playlist and honestly I could probably add every other song on the album as well.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Altar of sacrifice

Fun from the first scream.

A noisy, energetic, fast and loud as fuck classic

Intense and adrenaline pumping.

Its a solid album with some amazing tracks on it. Not fully my thing, but I liked it more than I thought! The opening track, Angel of Death, and Jesus Saves were definitely 2 stand out tracks I plan on revisiting and adding to a playlist or 2

This isn’t really my kind of music, but this album won me over. It is absolutely relentless.

Buen disco de trash-metal de grupo con intensidad y poderío. Voces desgarradoras, ritmos trepidantes. Tiene que gustarte mucho ese estilo

Really enjoyed listening to this. Altar of Sacrifice was the first to catch my attention, but the transition from Postmortem to Raining Blood was near perfection

Predecessor to death metal, it's loud and fast, with only 3 songs longer than 3 minutes. Clear vocals, epic squeeling solos, and satanic lyrics meant for no other purpose than to piss off parents. I found it to be pretty repetitive during the verses, and even with the short timestamps, it's hard for me to find a consistent melody with how they keep shifting tempos and styles every minute or so. This meant most songs blended together, and I had to specifically play each one separately to pick out my favorites. The solos are always the highlights of every song though. There were a few tracks that didn't have anything too notable about them in particular, with the least interesting being "Reborn". But with how short they all are, it was a really fun listen from start to end. Favorites: Angel of Death, Altar of Sacrifice, Postmortem, Raining Blood

Very good. This is like the ideal thrash album, it really sort of gleams the cube of you know what I mean. I also appreciate it being fairly short. I don’t mean that as an insult, more like trimming the fat off keeps the energy up the whole way through, the listener doesn’t get a chance to zone out. I’ll for sure listen to this one more

Just good thrash. Not crazy about the genre, but this album does it well

Slayer/Reign In Blood was this perfect confluence of music and marketability at precisely the right time. They took the best parts of thrash punk and dark metal and turned it into a tee shirt. Absolute legends. I can't say it's aged horribly well, but they launched a million sweaty, wrinkled bands.

HL: title track, “Angel of Death”, “Altar of Sacrifice”, “Postmortem” I wanted to make a joke about how “Angel of Death” is my favourite Bangles song, but now I can’t even find the brilliant YT mashup to back it up :( In most cases, the extreme subject matter would be an instant turn-off for me. Yet somehow, this sits within the very limited threshold of thrash metal I enjoy. Blame Guitar Hero III. In most cases, it’s the same kind of campy occult horror of witches and devils that put Venom on the map; but not only is Reign in Blood more polished than that band, it adds real-world examples of evil that, for better or for worse, leaves a lasting impression. Also its short runtime keeps it from being completely exhausting Spooktober 19, 2023

ULTIMATE THRASH! 3.5 stars

I never beat Raining Blood on expert back when I played Guitar hero. Aside from its opening riffs which are awesome, Raining Blood was not one of my favourites off this album which I thought was interesting. Angel of Death, Piece By Piece, Necrophobic were a great triplet to start the album.

Amazing energy

Rick Rubin produced this! Released in the same year as Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill and Run DMC's Raising Hell (both also produced by Rick Rubin), Slayer's Reign in Blood was basically confirmation that they ruled trash metal. They had established themselves prior to this, but Reign was so fine-tuned that it felt like any thrash release after would be playing catchup.

\m/_༼;´༎ຶ.̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̨̨̨̨̨̨̨.̸̸̨̨۝ ༎ຶ༽_\m/

This is the ideal thrash metal album. Slayer understands that they're going to take the listener to crazy places so they limit the runtime to under 30 minutes. It's packed with short and fast tracks, and bookended by their most iconic songs. Raining Blood is so sick. Still, it's not something I would listen to every day, or even more than one or two times a month. 7/10

I have never really listened to Slayer, what a positive surprise it was! The length was spot on.

This was some pretty sick thrash. I'd never really listened to Slayer. I wouldn't have liked it 5 or 6 years ago, but after getting into doom for a while, this was pretty great.

pretty decent metal

Fucking SLAYERRRRRRR!

Heavy, punchy, and straight to the point. Always epic.

\,,/(>.<)\,,/ This album is undeniably metal, but it has a lot in common with hardcore punk too. The extremely short runtime and straight-to-the-point song structure makes it less indulgent than the other big thrash metal bands of this era. The guitar solos border on noise at times, as do the vocals. This is pure hardcore, and you're either gonna love it or hate it. I fucking love it.

Everybody knows about Slayer I'm sure, and as far as I know this has to be their big one, right? It's got "Raining Blood," which is a Guitar Hero certified classic. Other songs I liked too, which is saying something since this isn't exactly my kind of music. But I appreciate the rage and the filth, and I know these guys are pioneers. Yeah, not the sort of thing that I'd casually throw on in any setting, but damn do I respect this album. Doesn't take much imagination to extrapolate all the influence that this had on metal going forward. Favorite tracks: Raining Blood, Angel of Death, Jesus Saves. Album art: Gotta be iconic, right? You've got the band name in metal font in a pentagram (ooooh the devil!) and the whole cover seems ripped from Dante's Inferno, a scene of people and creatures rotting in hell (once again, ooooh the devil!). Covers like these are the most entertaining part of metal for me. 4/5

Ok, niet mijn type metal, maar best vet. Gigantische invloed, en vernieuwend.

Old school thrash metal. Reminds me a lot of pre-black album Metallica, which makes sense considering they're both members of the Big 4. Enjoyed it for the most part.

Super hard & fast. I can imagine the live shows were dangerously fun.

I´m the angel of death. My mother told me to never listen Slayer when I was younger, well. Hello mom, :)

Thank god we got this after System of a Down, maybe my favourite metal album. 28 mins, proper thrash, with classic riffs. Some of the best drums on anything

Wow. There’s a lot of anger here. Raining blood is a masterpiece. I would love even more tempo or feel changes at certain points so that the tension can ease up for a minute. But I guess that’s the point. I would love to see Slayer live.

FUCKINGGGG SLAYYYYYERRRRR!!!!!!!!! 4/5

This album goes hard AF but it's not really my thing. I certainly can appreciate the work and music though. 7/10.

So I'm getting into my backlog of albums that I can't get to the day they're generated either from it being a weekend or just not being able to handle listening to things like Slayer at 4:30 am on the way to work. I'm only familiar with this one from that South Park episode where hippies take over the town. Cartman's plan is to put "Reign in Blood" on over the PA system because hippies can't stand death metal, this is true. His plan works and the hippies disperse. As for me, how do I deal with this one. It accomplished what I assume it set out to do which is make loud, angry music which honors Satan. It's both terrible and awesome at the same time which is a rarity in music. I'm surely going to be subjected to more death metal along this journey hopefully it's not a caricature of this. Hail Satan!

Metal is so funny. They're all like, "I'm a real sicko! Blood and guts and gore!!! SATAN!" That edgy shit just gets funnier and funnier as I get older. Would be embarrassing if it didn't also rip.

boilerplate 80s thrash with a legendary guitar hero III single. dark, shrill, twangy, and not too bad. optimistic 4/5

Slayer n'a jamais été mon genre, mais ça reste un gros classique avec des supers bons riffs. Raining Blood est évidement un anthem du trash.
