Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Deep sigh. Have I done something to offend this book? What cause could there be to subject me to the 194 versions of rave/techno/dance music that exists and I MUST hear? At some point this all ran together for me. It's not egregiously bad, but clearly the editors of this book took drugs and went to a rave (probably in a European country), made out with a guy/girl while this music was playing and has such fond memories that we must re-live the wonderful memory through this music. Move Any Mountain is a good song and The Shamen are aware of this, as 2-3 songs on this album reference the song. I did enjoy this album a bit more on second listen, especially Make it Mine, which had a really cool switch from the rave-ish music to guitar rock.

J - 2/5 Best Track - "Move Any Mountain" F - DNL

I guess this must be on the list for some genre-significant achievement, because the music itself felt very bog-standard.

Very samey. Nothing super exciting. Could listen in the background if someone else put it on but would get bored

i am rating this a 2, but really it is like a 2 and a 1/2. it is not bad, per say, but there were just too many instrumentals for my taste. sure, this would be ideal at a rave or if you are super stoned. but, i have heard a lot worse, and i was able to listen to the full album, indicating that this really was not terrible, it just was not my mood for the moment. overall, it is not something i would usually listen to. even still, i favorited a couple songs i thought were not bad, with my favorite being lightspan. 🩵💙🩵 𝒻𝒶𝓋ℴ𝓇𝒾𝓉ℯ𝓈: ♡ 1. lightspan 2. hear me 3. possible worlds 4. make it mine

Catchy (?) but not very good. Didn’t like this. But it did have me moving. On the 2 side of a 2.5.

Sounds very quaint in 2025. It's cute that artists used to rap like this, and that people used to dance to it.

quite dull. not as energetic as I remember

Another day, another hour-plus 90s electronic record. Consider my horizons expanded, I guess.

I liked some of it. 666 Edit was quite ok, but every song has at least one thing that annoys me....

This album indeed does get enhanced by being high, but not by much. It still seemingly goes on forever and just sounds painfully generic, but there are some nice beats here and a couple really good tracks. It gets a 2 still because it's such a slog

I agree its pretty bad

Omega Amigo was pretty good. The rest of it didn’t quite appeal.

Same thing

Yes. Because I want my commute to feel like a montage from a low budget 1992 romcom/heist film set in New York. Move any mountain will make it onto my running playlist though and I hate that for everyone. It's so cringe I've gone full circle and may have enjoyed it. But the full album is too much like GCSE music experimentation

Didn't completely hate this, Move Any Mountain is a banger, but it wears a bit thin after that with the repetitive nature and long running time. From the band that sang "Es are good" I suppose it's clear who their music is aimed at.

# Album Name: En-tact # Artist: The Shamen # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: Move every mountain is a good song. The rest was more background music. Did not enjoy a full album of it. A song here and there is OK. Not a patch on ebeneezer good though! # Top Tunes: Move every mountain # Would I listen to it again? Nah. Just the odd song.

Nothing for me

Move any mountain var ju en monsterhit och Make it mine hade jag som singel. Men det bli påfrestande i längden att lyssna på den här typen av musik.

Favorite Track: Move Any Mountain

Rating: 5/10 Meh.

This was more early electronics and to no one's surprise.... was not very good. 3/10.

A cross between Bros and Happy Mondays. 2.5

A little too much 'techno' for me.

One good song, lots of fairly uninspiring ones

sinpatico

One can conceive the appeal, but only just. And, being a lover not a dancer, one doesn't actually feel it. The sheer forgettability of this work suggests some day it will be hard to discern, in any meaningful way, from Muzak.

Not good

44/1001 Right out of my era this, but I never really got into the dance scene in a big way, so I am only familiar with Progen / Move Any Mountain. Cheesy new-age psych-hippy lyrical themes aside, it's not too bad to be fair - I can see how all those acidic squelches and layered sounds could sound amazing with the right, ahem, substances on board. I've seen some reviews suggesting it sounds dated, but I was quite surprised how well it held up to be honest, there's a lot more subtle production and melodic sense than you might give them credit for. And - listening to the 1991 reissue - everything is pared down to a palatable pop-single length at least. As I said earlier, dance is not really my thing, but I am interested in the sounds and the technology - I'd love to MAKE this sort of music, much more than I'd like to listen to it. I'm pretty sure I enjoy this version of the Shamen to the more chart-friendly Mr C's silly raps-to-the-fore version which followed though - I've no reservations giving it two stars.

Benadryl overdose album, but it could be better.

By its nature not very exciting, but it's not bad. It's just... there. I suppose it'd be good background noise for some. It does what it sets out to achieve, it's just that it's not much.

A really weird album. Had a nerdy corny charm at best, and got very predictable and boring at worst. A few interesting moments, but would've been much better served as a 20 min EP. Top tracks: Move Any Mountain, Oxygen Restriction

I want to claw my ears out

I feel like there are other bands that have done this much better.

This album sounds like early-90's extasy (the illicit drug, not the actual emotion) feels. Sure it's bouncy and pleasantly trippy, but it's also artificial and leaves you feeling hollow afterward.

Better than most of the electronic music that has come up on this list. 2.5 stars.

I’m trying not to call this “beeps and boops,” but damn. It’s just a lot of… yeah.

Wow, this is bad. I would not suggest listening to a single song. Ok it's not that bad, but it's not for me.

Pretty average album in my opinion, nothing special or even solid about it. The beats are raw and loud, but in this case this isn't a good thing, they seem a bit unpolished and basic, often way to repetitive. The melodies are weak and not memorable. The vocals aren't blended in the usual way for techno music, but rather jump in unexpectedly, when I think about it, the album sounds like mixing the song structures of pop music into electronic music. The whole album seems like it needs more work in the studio, mixing and mastering, finding a better balance and maybe adding elements here and there. Having said that, there are also some fun songs and melodies on here, just not that many. Not sure why this made the list to be honest, the album isn't even that popular to begin with.

Scottish 90s dance. Fused the band's past psychedelic rock sounds with the rave act it became, developing a style that represented multicultural dance music. Very bland electronica, not bad but kind of meh.

Shitty rave music.

I think I could have died without hearing this. Thin, boring.

So right off the back I really liked this album. It starts really high with by far the best song on the album and everything after that is downhill. I actually counted how many songs I liked enough to add them to a playlist I listen to, and how many were like nails on a chalkboard repetitive, and 2/3rds of the hour long album were not just forgettable and skippable, but they were actually grading to listen to. It’s really a shame because based off of the first two songs I thought this album would be a “dancey” new wave album. It is not really new wave sounding after the first two songs (maybe the last one too, that song has a new wave vibe to it). But ultimately if it weren’t for the 5songs I did like this album would be my second album to get a one star review.

Futuristic no saves

This has aged very poorly. But then again, maybe it wasn’t ever any good.

Didn’t like it, just not my kind of music at all. Maybe one song I kind of like (“Human NRG”)

Suspiciously French sounding

That's not my taste in music

Sehr elektrisch, ok aber nix dolles. 2/5

Some people may like this, although I don’t know why, but it is by no means required listening for anyone. It is nothing more than a stereotype of what I would expect if I were ever to go to a rave. Should not be on this list.

Boring

*sigh dimery...

Lord. How do some of these albums make this list? This is pretty bad because it’s just totally ignorable. 2/5

Another lates 80s / early 90s Techno album. This one had some good songs but ultimately didnt capture my attention. A lot of drum/bass heavy sound that isnt really my taste. I could see how other DJs might have found this influential. Overall- 2.5/5, but not quite a 3

I had a feeling when I saw the cover and title that this album wouldn’t be for me and I was correct.

1.6 Not much to write home about, so I wont

I found the album to be 4 bangers, and that was pretty much it. The rest of the album was either just remixes of those songs or filler that didn't have much to it.

Move Any Mountain, well it’s deffo the 90s. there’s a tight back beat and interesting rap/talking going on. The chorus is classic dance and is only the title of the track basically. It’s in no way bad but I won’t be rushing to put it back on. Human, giving some what bowie with the arrangement. There is some underwater bubble noise that I love. Again drums are tight. It goes on a bit too long for my liking but they do build it up and down for interest. Now i’m gonna be real candid here and say, at this point in the album i had to turn it off before it contributed to a panic attack in the gym. So i will not explain my two stars any further.

It is serviceable rave music. It joins the host of albums on this list that I think are mediocre in their unforget-ability.

ehhhh there’s good stuff here but a lot of stuff that I’m not really feeling. Evil is even to make it mine is a nice run of tracks tho

I feel as though whatever edge this album may have had upon release has been lost to time. Fine, just corny and outdated

Some of the songs give a Dead or Alive vibe. Maybe it’s the vocals. En-Tacr starts strong but bottoms out after track 4.

Sub Mid 90s rave music, US version at least had "Move Any Mountain" but this one did not.

Sort of interesting techno dancy music, but it gets old and repetitive very quickly.

I feel this album started solid. I even got the “something new i might get hooked on” feeling. But the last half was way weaker and less creative than i thought. Good to listen, i added a couple of songs to my favs, but that’s it.

Not my cup of tea unfortunately.

"The system is down"

I can’t help but like this a little because it’s so unabashedly crappy. It’s like a parody of 1990 electronica.

This is the kind of 90s dance music that I at least like the idea of, but this is a real miss. Move Any Mountain is ok, but the rest of it falls off massively, it gets really quite samey and dull, and it goes on too long. 2/5.

This is music that would be parodied on Portlandia

This served as quite nice background music as I worked today, but I can’t see myself listening to it anywhere else. I felt it was maybe a tad long too. Score: 2/5

This is a joke, right? Operating under that assumption, this album completely belongs on the list. It’s unserious. It’s subversive. It’s kind of amazing. Sadly, I think this is serious. “Omega amigo for you I’ll always have time.” What the hell is that? Serious people do not sing those words over and over. Believing this is a joke makes it genius, but otherwise it’s just bad.

Not for me.

The new key words feature is quite handy for my review: long, dated, repetitive, boring

I hate that it’s a thing for some electronic acts to release their albums in a myriad of different ways. Please decide on a mix and go with it. Now that that’s out of the way, there are a few interesting choices on this album. Other than that it’s quite a bore.

Like most experimental electronic music, it starts out pretty cool but wears out it's welcome very quickly

Pretty fun album, some songs I definitely preferred but a lot that just sort of blended into one another.

Quite a slog to get through, the music is a bit of it's time and maybe could be appreciated for it's time and within context but the lyrics...the worst sort of faux spiritual dog shit you could ever hear. Utterly ruins any possibility of this being decent 1.5*

Uninspiring electronic music

This one didn’t do much for me with the exception of Omega Amigo, which is a fun song. It’s a sort of fun, decent sounding record that may have felt innovative in 1990, but it hasn’t aged well sonically in my opinion.

Every electronica album on this list has been at least 20 minutes longer than it needed to be

The actual electronica music is cool, but the singing on top is annoying

Not my cup of tea

Rave music really needs to be heard in a dark club full of people. Listening while driving to work made me feel old and made the music sound weak

Somewhat catchy beats, and also some very annoying ones.

British techno slop. Pass.

OK if you like that sort of thing.

Track one: oh yes, I remember this one - choon! Track two onwards: well, this is embarrassing

Dull, dated.

If someone would ask me how the typical 90s music sounds like, I’d show them this.

This is my 211th album and (I think) only the second time I’ve said “that’s enough of that. I I doubt the last 2 tracks are going to wow me and even if they do it’ll hardly redeem what came before”

Forgettable early Dance / electronica

Pish, but scottish enough for a bonus

Always found The Shamen a bit hit and miss. Move any Mountain is great (I've still got my original single form when it was released) but most of this just merges into 1.

At times utter shit, other times not too bad. Bits of it sound like a joke, especially some of the vocals. Manages to sound older than electronic bands that came before them. I dont get this. Gimme a record back to back Ebeneezer good over this

Very 90s rave, I bet their music videos feature glow sticks, strobe lighting and whistles, with the implication that everybody is on pills. Some of the beats were alright but out together in a repetitive way, they didn't make the most of any of the good parts. The last quarter of the album seemed to be remixes of the rest of it as well, no need. The particular way the terrible lyrics are delivered is almost nostalgic now but it's terrible. There is something half decent buried in here but it's really deep.

Not really sure why this is on the list, other than if it is influential as the start of something bigger. Not dire, but not overly interesting. The first half of the album was more enjoyable.

I don't see any reason this should be on this list. Isn't even that good or unique example of electronica. Also doesn't have their huge hit on. Didn't hate it, but would never choose to listen to it again. 1.5

Bit dated, not a big fan. Hard to say if there's a legacy to this, I'm the wrong person to judge.

2 This feels like a lite version of Pet Shop Boys, an artist that I’m not even the biggest fan of to begin with. Though, to PSB’s credit, for as grating as the result often is, you can tell they’re at least going for something interesting - I’m not sure what exactly this album is hoping to achieve or whom it's for. It’s like it’s too tame to be club music and yet too intense for casual listening. Not that I’ve got a ton of experience with the culture, but this feels like the lamest rave you could attend. I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the biggest fan of electronic music, so there might be a bit of bias to this review, but I will say, I randomly decided to put on the SSX 3 video game soundtrack this past weekend. For those that didn’t grow up on PS2 extreme sports games, there’s a lot of electronica to be found within the franchise, and I’ve gotta say, what was included in that game had me grooving in my seat. I’m really not much of a club kid, but if you could find me a club that specializes in that kind of electronica, I certainly could be persuaded. Anyway, my point being - there wasn’t a single song on this album that got me even remotely close to a state like that. I’ll give it credit for at least not being as annoying as it certainly could be, but there’s just nothing here that’s interesting. The closest it comes is with Move Any Mountain, but after about the third time I heard it here, I was pretty over it. Not the worst thing I’ve heard from the genre, but quite possibly the most forgettable.

Interessant

boring trip-pop that didn't engender any interest.

I just find this so boring

Expected to hate this. Didn't, but it wasn't too painful. I just don't like EDM. Not made for listening in my opinion.

God this was hard to get through, but I did it. Far too many insufferable beeps and boops. Will never listen again

Some shining musical moments but mostly sound effects with a beat

There are actually some songs I like on here, so it doesn't totally suck, just mostly. Good soundtrack material.

🎧Listened to the US 1991 issue. Mostly generic sounding techno. Favorite tracks: Evil Is Even, Make It Minimal

More poppy than I expected, not sold on some of the singles but decent music for working.

Just not my thing. I see its place though. favorite track: make it mine

Functional music for doing your thing (drugs) in 1990. Not music for listening in 2024. 2.2

Paria kipaletta laskematta aika tasotonta kamaa. 2+

Pari lupaavan olosta jytää, mut lopputuloksena kuitenkin kokonaisuus oli vähän tylsä

Oh this is pretty weak isn't it. Not held up well. 'Move any mountain' is still a minor league banger but the rest is mostly annoying. Yet another album on this list that isn't essential at all, but does help fill out an appreciation of different times and movements in music.

Psychedelic, electronic dance music. It's OK, but not a must hear for anyone. Giving a 2 because the rhythms and beat are nice background music for some things.

I thought there was potential at first. 2/5

p635. 1990. 2.5 stars (3 on a good day). Decent Brit electro-dance, with a couple of standout tracks. Needs a tab to be fully appreciated. Not essential listening, but worth a spin.

This was an interesting work. It was entertaining enough to have as background music while working.

I don’t think this is all that bad. I mean, I didn’t listen to all of it, it’s far too long, but I don’t think that as music it’s that bad. On the other hand, there was an album that I listened to recently, I don’t remember which one, and the top rated review said that they always try to ask why this specific album deserves a spot on the top 1001 of all time, the most essential of the most essential. And I have no idea why En-Tact of all albums is up here. As far as I was aware, The Shamen are best known for Ebeneezer Goode, a particularly catchy if unsubtle tribute to ecstasy, which only seems to be remembered by a certain set of music history nerds, specifically because of it’s hilarious take on pro-drug advocacy. But there isn’t any of this catchiness or wit on En-Tact. It’s all played as straight as Rave music can be, and as such, I don’t see why this deserves a spot on the list.

I'm surprised this has been included as an early 90's rave classic. Could have gone for many other options. This was kind of average when it came out.

Dimery listened to it in his youth, no other reasons

Reviewing this album feels like trying to face your kid after a piano recital. You know they worked really hard on it and their heart was in the right place but it just wasn't very good. Some cool musical ideas here but I have the same complaint on this album as I do a lot of other albums of this genre from this time on this list - they can make some cool new things with the new technology available to them but they haven't figured out how to turn it into a bigger musical idea instead of disparate sounds.

Another album that I'll never remember a single track of.

Started off with a bit of nostalgic hopefulness but soon faded after the first few tracks and a repetitive mundane feeling took over.

It started out alright but then go so samey, that my infant hated it. 2/5

Every thumbs-up on this post is a petition to outlaw the UK forever

Electronica. Langweilig **

I remember playing Move Any Mountain a lot when I first started DJ'ing (and of course Ebeneezer Goode). The rest of the album is "of its time" like this band always was. Good album but not something I will listen to again.

I was never a rave person, it just didn't appeal. A lot of this sounds like someone holding down the demo button on an expensive keyboard. Music for another life and time I suspect

Nice electro but not my genre

At first, I liked the atmosphere that this album creates. I kind of wish I had listened to this with an MP3 player. Nonetheless, I don't think that it had much to offer. A lot of synthesizers, which I am not a big fan of. The melodies were repetitive, which made me miss some lyrics even more. Frankly, I was already fed up with the album by the time I had reached the fourth song

nah. Human NRG and Possible Worlds showed promise and bump it up to 1.8 stars, which I'll round off to 2 for generosity's sake.

Лучшая песня - Move And Mountain.

Thought I was going to be more into this than I was. Got tiresome and wasn't my bag

Didn't think much of this. Sounds just like generic 90s club fodder to me, not really my bag.

Like walking to a bar in the late nineties and listening droning music to drunkenly move to 'Omega Amigo' especially sounds like something someone in the bar would tell you after bumping into you and giving you glowsticks

I see why this is on the list, given the context, but it's horrificly dated now, and waaay too long. The last few songs are pretty much just reworkings of Move Any Mountain (which is a good song), with different titles. After an hour or so it started to wear a bit thin. Some interesting tracks here and there, but overall just interesting as a footnote in the evolution of electronic and house music.

Hit and miss

Pretty painful listen. Shitty techno. 2 stars

Not my fave. There are definitely some cool aspects of this album, but for the most part it seemed just like jumbled sounds. 666 Edit being the hallmark of that comment.

The type of Electronic music that I really do not like, super repetitive looping beats that don't really go anywhere. Tough to listen to for a full hour. Also annoying that the US track list is way different than the original.

Some classics but the album didn't grab me. A generous 2.

No amount of pills could make this album an interesting experience.

Absolute garbage. Repetitive, uninteresting, dated, meaningless new-agey-druggy lyrics, awful sound, terrible singing - tedious beyond belief

There were some elements/parts I liked like the last song but I was mostly waiting for it to be over - 5/10

I was not happy to see an hour long electronica album, but when I started listening to it I thought it wasn't too bad. But then I realized I was halfway through the third track and there were 12 more left. Overall, it has some good moments, but was a slog to get through. 666 Edit has that one popular hip hop sample.

Hear this and then see the Wikipedia being like thus was notable in the clubbing scene and then I get why ppl who fuck it up in the club also fuck up acid bc I’d have to be tripping too to enjoy this. 3/10

This is pretty ass. Every time we get a bad electronica album, which there seem to be quite a few of on here, I get more and more upset that they didn't include discovery on this list

Played this end-to-end twice and don't remember a single note. It's electronic dance 'music' is all I know. Pointless unless you're actually dancing.

90's rave music. Niet echt mijn pakkie an. 6/10 Highlights: Move Any Mountain Hyperreal Orbit

electronic music that is VERY redundant, as most music seems to be in that genre. pretty unremarkable, to be honest.

Not listened yet

EEz are good, eez are good ethan ebeneezer Goode

Trying to be Pet Shop Boys but without the talent and versatility. 1-1/2 stars

I still can't convince myself that an album like this takes any real talent to create. All this album did was inspire other people to make equally stupid albums.

The first track might have been the quickest I went from "3 trending towards 4" to "2 trending towards 1" as soon as I heard the vocals. It doesn't really recover from that. The vocals are uniformly terrible on this album and some otherwise fun grooves are marred by some ugly, dated tones. This just makes me want to listen to Front 242 instead.

Honestly a few bangers here ("Move Any Mountain", which I guess was only in the later US release so that probably can't be counted here, and "Make It Mine") but mostly everything else wasn't really close to rave-worthy. Slightly too long too. This isn't to say that I hate electronic music, though. In fact, I'm hoping that some 80/90s house music appears during the continuation of my journey through this list (only about 50 albums in at this point).

Funny but the first thing I saw was the thumbnail of The Shamen on Spotify where they look like a members of a Nazi rave gay club. Album itself isn't worth your time. If you think otherwise I guess you are gonna get invited to annual club meeting.

Pretty run-of-the-mill for ‘90s electronica.

It exists

I feel like I played some terrible computer game...way too much...way back in the day, and this was the sound track.

I was about three seconds in and I had a vibe that I was going to be hard in one direction on where this went. This first song is some real Dennis Reynolds shit. I listened to this on a run that felt hard. I went into a fugue state and a tiny bit of this made sense. That saved it from a 1.

Decent music to do a bunch of highway driving to, but it's a little corny. It's an album.

This might have been important as one of the influences on the huge dance/electronic acts of the 90's, but now it's sounding quite basic and anemic in comparison. I doubt this album deserves to be in the top 1001.

A couple good tracks but largely forgettable imo

Not top 1000 in my book

Not for me. Kind of lamely saccharine and doesn't get me in the mood for dancing. Two and a half. Fave track: Make it Minimal

In the right mood I could have gotten really into this, but today just found this a frustrating listen. As soon as I began to get hooked by a song, I’d be sick of it a minute later. Maybe another listen will provide better results. Fave track: Human NRG (Massey)

Below average Electronica...albums like this really seem of a certain time and place and if you weren't there is just doesn't seem as relevant. 2/5

Just not my thing.

The entire sound and vibe of this band and album just reminds me so much of "Planet of the Bass" that it almost makes it hard to take them seriously.

Los primeros 90 adiós a los 80

It’s not very good. It’s really kind of poppy and random. It’s like what you would hear at a kids dance party.

me dieron ganas de tomar merca

Weak start. Not my jam off the bat. HOWEVER, considering the age it’s decentish production and I found it pretty decent to drive to actually. In a tune-it-out-and-think kind of way. Thinking it’s a 3/5 just for that. Otherwise 1-2. Nope. Second half was shit.

Not bad as background music

Varmaan huonoin albumi mitä tälä sivustolta tullut vastaan heh.. mutta hyvä bussimatka musiikki oli... Repetitive.. uninteresting ja kaikki muut hyvät asiat mitä olisinkaan voinut toivoa tältä hetkeltä.. En halunnut tähdittää tätä hetkeä.. Halusin vain hetken.. Tämä oli albumi siihen... Eräs sample: "mOoove any MountAain.. " Aika inspiring heh.. Toinen sample: "We know, we know, that we will have to pay And get squashed, and the struggle is long and hard And through each part, the price is high but the end is near Do not be scared, do not do wrong Do not betray our faith, do not betray our children Do not betray our fathers, do not betray our mothers Do not betray our vision Do not betray the justice we are fighting for Do not betray the lands we will see that will rise up Out of the ashes of this country And apartheid will crumble" Margariinin kevyt...

Nope, drum machine music

This album was not bad but just not my type of genre.

(4,9/6) Nope

#48, the first electronic music album. There aren't a whole lot of those, it seems? And I don't know how and why this one took one of the spots. I'm couple of tracks in and I'm sitting motionless. Dance music, huh? This is acceptable as a historical artifact but listening to it feels like playing Test Drive (1987, Amiga, C64, DOS) when there's Forza Horizon. Maybe not even playing Test Drive but watching a rhombohedron fly through a checkered torus, in a swirly CG sky! State Of The Art! Even the good moments - and sounds, there are some - just make me want to listen to En-Tact's contemporaries from, like, The Orb/-ital or so, which may give me a similar experience, listening in 2024, but at least there would be none of the Eurodance rapping. I reserve my 1s for utter shite with no redeeming features - this album is not quite *that* but damn close.

It’s like hip-hop infused electronic dance pop. Extremely early 90s sounding. I guess the progenitor of a lot of stuff of the time that sounded the same. I don’t hate it but would not choose to listen to it on my own. Though ironically I probably like it more now than I would have if I had heard it in the 90s despite how dated it sounds.

Early 90’s techno / trance album

Felt like I was in a club in 1991 and there was no escape

Probably of some note at the time - that dance/acid house movement of the Uk but it’s not aged well. One song and a lot of not very much.

Aerobics class music? What people in the 90s thought "futuristic" sounded like? Background tracks for an off brand racing video game in a hotel arcade? Some combo of these things. Not my fav

I had high hopes after the first song bc I actually really enjoyed it, but the album went downhill quickly and I ended up turning it off after like 3 songs.

Kinda trance music, wasn’t my fav

Seemed like old school edm. Only listened to first couple which were quite repetitive but did still enjoy the first one a bit. Not too sad to not have listened to the rest.

yeah no

Not just a product of its time, also a product of its place and culture. I started listening to this without knowing anything about it and it was quickly apparent that this was 90's UK rave. I must admit that it was a little earlier than I expected at 1990, so I guess it's on the list for being trailblazing or something. Ultimately this just isn't my thing. I found it annoying a lot of the time and it seemed overly long.

Eh. Idk Bro. Move any mountian isch no s beste lied vom album imo aber isch da echt bewusst en typo im Titel? Biz zu quirky für mich. Chan genrell mit em rest vom album au nid sonderlich viel afange. 2.3/5

Hm isch ned so mis tbh. Finds ned schlecht, aber au ned wük guet… aso ich chönt mer das ned on a daily geh? Oder überhaupt so ih minere freiziit, aber finds au ned mega schlimm….

oye mate oye ya twat. bri'ish move any mountain isch huuuere catchy. d rapteil sind nöd sooo geil. Human NRG hahaha. bip bup bap. da träuflet hetz sochli vor sich hii. 👍🏻

The album was meh at first, then it kind of got a little bit better, and then it started getting super annoying because everything was the same 10 seconds repeated for a few minutes. When I listen to this, I imagine empty clubs with maybe 5-6 people here and there. I didn't find this album that great.

I dont care for that type of music

Interesting stuff, but nothing I'd spend a lot of time listening to. Since I'm not one to take drugs and go dancing I'll pass. Creating the tracks must have been fun though.

Doesn't do much for me at all. I know this is / was a thing... but is this the best example that I need to listen to before I die?

Fun but repetitive at some point. 3 bangers 3 songs that sample move any mountain… Lotta schmooving, not lotta feelin

I feel like this was the blueprint for the nineties electronic dance that followed. If that interests you, here you go!

No me creo que estos sean todos los álbumes que hay que escuchar antes de morirse. Son una tremenda basura. A pesar de todo, este álbum me ha gustado. Música alternativa disco. Es entretenida. Se parece a Daft Punk.

MNYEEEH

Never really got on with this. Always reminded me of the stuff my mates would make on their Amiga music programs.

I listened to half of it, made sure I was okay, then went back for the second half. Don't know what's in these albums.Finding it very dated and of a specific time (1990) and place (Yeovil Aerodrome). Didn't know they were from Aberdeen

Background noise

just what the hell is going on ? electronic, new wave, hip hop beat with a rapper from time to time. then that you changed of style towards the end. 4/10

Oh my mid 2.5/5

Had 2 good songs Move any Mountain and Make it Mine. Otherwise very mediocre good length though at just over an hour. 2/5

Overall pretty ok dance record, not offensive but if I wanted to listen to 90s dance/electronic music I would listen to literally anything else. A lot of these songs don't really do anything interesting and don't use the genre's repetitive nature to their advantage. Also some of the songs such as 'possible worlds' are just straight up annoying to listen to. Just put on Lcd soundsystem at this point

Upbeat, fun, some songs were too intense for me

You know, that irritated me a little less than I thought it was going to. I could just leave it on in the background and pretend I was on hold to the motivational poster factory.

Opens strong and then, what on earth is the rest of it?

It went from being “Okay, I can bop my head a little to this” to “How much more of this do I have to listen to?” Not the worst I’ve ever heard but definitely forgettable. I would’ve preferred to hear their psychedelic rock that supposedly came before this garbage.

Run of the mill Euro-dance that went nowhere

Started off fine enough, but I'm not sure if just got more annoying as it went along, or I just got bored with it.

It's old school Shamen. Starts off quite well but runs out of ideas

As a time capsule it's interesting - a confluence of rock, acid house and techno that drew from Kraftwerk, New Wave and hip-hop; alongside acts like Pop Will Eat Itself, the KLF and even perhaps World of Twist, the Shamen illuminated many roads. Would the Prodigy or Pendulum be the acts we know them to be in the present without this movement? Worth considering. As a listening experience it falls short. Endlessly repetitive and lacking any real melodic appeal or harmonic invention, this gets by on texture, tone and intensity. Perhaps in a certain setting it works - and even then in nibbles. A whole album? Man, I was ready to tap out halfway through. Also, Mr C is criminally underused. He brought a sense of anarchic, geezerish irreverence to proceedings. He's great on 'Move Any Mountain' - a song that acts as a harbinger for their biggest track a couple of years down the line...

Felt no substance and definitely not my cup of tea. [0097/1001]

This album felt they took the synth-based dance pop of the 80s and really tried to push it to new heights. Though I would have definitely enjoyed this more if it was just an instrumental album; the vocal samples and what singing there is really took a lot away from the pretty snazzy beats. I could so easily see this being the soundtrack to a Mini-Golf video game set in space, circa the early 2000s.

The 90s club scene in its awkward glory. Indie, electronic and hip hop smashed together in sweaty rave where no one listens and everyone dances to their own blend of drugs.

Net iets te repetitief. Niet zo gek van dit album

Why is this on the list? It’s pretty lame, tbh. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed this even when a was in a phase of listening to all kinds of uninspired EDM. Two stars because some of the tracks felt nostalgic. Some were straight-up annoying (Human NRG, etc.).

This album shows a group at the crossroads of psychedelia and electronic. At least that what it seems at first before the album descends into acid house beats that just don't feel very alive. The beats themselves don't have very much presence, but they're also not minimal enough to be considered atmospheric. This leaves them in a weird in between place where they just can't sustain an album that's over an hour long. Nothing here feels very groundbreaking but rather rudimentary.

It's electronic music. I do not mind it but I don't seek it out and I don't need to listen to an entire album. I am sure it impacted EDM but doesn't need to be on the list. I will generously round up

Tråkigt men helt ok

Slightly more clubby hold music. Maybe if I had glowsticks to twirl I'd give it a higher rating. Rating 2.2 stars.

From the description, I thought I'd love this. But feels too much like pillhead music.

Not for me

This did nothing for me. I didn't expect it to either. I want to say something insightful about rave culture and the mainstream but I really CBA.

I can imagine being in a club in the early 90s and tripping out while dancing to this music, but it's just not my cup of tea.

Was expecting this to suck and it did not disappoint. 3/10

Some pleasing moments, but more forgettable than danceable.

This must have been such a new sound when it hit the club scene where it hit. I had trouble finding my way into it and had to try and appreciate it for what it must have been in the moment.

Are the ShaMEN a response to the Spice GIRLS? It's hard for me to relate to this since I have good teeth and didn't grow up in England in the 90's. I feel like C+C Music Factory, Marky Mark and a pair Calvin Klein undies might jump outta my Spotify. Word up. Word to your moms.

This album may have busted through some barriers during its time. I don’t know there is not much to go on. Regardless, it sounds very dated now. Some of the beats hold up but for the most part it sounds like it’s well past it’s expiration date.

Lightweight pop dance crossover with a lot of half-arsed filler. Underwhelming.

The title kind of says it all. To me, this is nothing more than some below average acid house/dance music. I'm not really sure why this album is in the list, because this doesn't seem like essential listening to me. There are far better records released in the same genre. None of the tracks do anything super interesting. They are all very average, and don't sound like they were produced by people who know how to make very good house music. Where the real problem lies is the song lengths. These songs are just way too long. The album is over an hour long, and it does not do anything to justify being that long. The only song I will give any credit to is Omega Amigo, since it is slightly less boring than the rest of the album.

Classic electronic dance music from the early 90s. Long rhythmic tracks and repetitive beats and choral collages of language, sometimes sung, sometimes rapped, sometimes sampled. This is quintessential club music to keep people on dark dance floors awash with pulsing, moving colored lights. Most tracks are uptempo with driving drum machines and ambient synthesized sequences. Good, just not great.

This kind of went on and on and on...a bit too repetitious to be interesting and it felt like a never-ending rave gone bad. Started off okay, it kept my interest, but I really wanted to turn it off about halfway through. Too electronic, drum machine-y and house-y for my liking.

An album can be a milestone and also too dated to go back to. I don't know if it's the former. It's definitely the latter.

Pretty tame stuff. Like I say in every EDM one, I dance to this kinda music and hear way better shit by DJs and teachers who have really good tunes. Too tame. Too lame.

It's not terrible as background music. Not very good to actively listen to. Obviously made for dancing, but I don't think anyone would dance if you played it at a party these days. It sounds very outdated. Way too long. Favorite song: Move any mountain. (it's on the US version)

Somewhat listenable but ultimately forgettable early 90s electronic music. The Shamen managed to capture everything that's tedious about this genre without conveying any of the fun and energy. The sampled bits were fine, but this album would have been much better without vocals. Fave Songs: Possible Worlds: Deep PSI, Lightspan, Make It Mine, Hear Me O My People, Move Any Mountain

A little bonus for nostalgia but practically unlistenable

Mediocre dance pop. This sounds like garage band loops, but published. I can't understand its inclusion on the 1000 albums you must hear list

really not good

Becomes fairly monotonous over the course of an hour plus. Not sure how this sounded when it came out, but now it sounds quaint - excitable 90's dance grooves. Did not particularly enjoy it. I think I could appreciate it in the right mood, but I was not in that mood.

This is kinda dumb rave music. I gave up on it.

Boss Drum is already on here, right? Yeah, it’s kind of ridiculous that The Shamen have two albums on here. Not an awful album but does not deserve to be on this list.

For some reason I can no longer fathom, I owned this album. The most plausible explanation is that there was a girl involved. I forgive myself for having once had the CD aim my possession.

As much as I like an electro-departure here and there on this list, this album was mostly really boring. I swear it's like the guy who made this list heard one electronic song and thought "Wow, gee whiz, now ain't that something! The whole album must be a trip, worth hearing before I die!" and then, well, it aged a bit like milk and just doesn't feel essential. Next please. Favorite tracks: Human NRG. Album art: I don't even know if the picture I have on Apple Music is the right one, it's just the name, some runic symbols, and a background that feels like a 3rd generation Pokemon box wallpaper. No comment. 2/5

I liked “Move Any Mountain”, though I’m not sure why it’s misspelt on Spotify. I listened to the 1991 US version because that’s what was on Spotify. The rest was not for me.

Wooow what a trippy thing, omega amigo! What can I tell you? After listening to this album, I feel like I was in a 5-day rave that took place in a warehouse located on a rural area nearby Copenhagen in 1988: exhausted, dizzy, thirsty, and with a jell-o brain. Mr Shamen, I don’t think you needed to release a 1 hour+ album to show the world your magic when only three songs could explain it perfectly.

This is way too long I don’t hate it but none of it is really good 2/5

I didn't mind this, but it didn't really grab me either. A Thursday morning work shift is probably not the ideal setting for listening to this, either. Lots of dance tropes in here - the Hip Hoppy bits; the repeated samples on various tracks; the cutting up of the track for dynamic effect. The only bit that stood out was the 'move any mountain' refrain, and that was due to a) familiarity and b) the repetition throughout this album.

This was interesting as a document of early 90s rave culture, but of little value elsewhere. You wouldn't sit down of an evening, light up the log fire and say HEY! I know what: Let's play The Shamen's En-Tact on vinyl whilst we wind down for the day. I always thought it was quite a leap of faith from their psych prog early output to the dance crossover. En-Tact sounds like a step too far. It's the soundtrack for walking around Camden Market in 1993 and having a headache.

not as terrible as other electronica albums. Mainly because it isn't as repetitive as for example Darkdancer or Exit Planet Dust but it does not reach the highs of for example Kraftworks TEE. 2/5

Reminded me of 808 State, the singing of XTC. Sounds like THE party music of the 90s/Y2K. Not really something I would personally put on, but I wouldn't mind it playing at a venue. The song I remember the most would be "Make It Mine".

Na rave może dobre, na pisanie kodu 2/10

Ok, nothing I’d listen to again.

Average Dance album. A few good tracks but mostly forgettable and gets a bit boring. Highlights: Move any Mountain

A consistent problem with dance records is the length. They wanted to use every bit of data available on CDs, eh? Unfortunately dated. The drums just scream "90's dance" with no real unique identity. The Shamen do their best to add atmosphere to each track, but I would argue that the drums are the most important part of any dance song. Some tracks are more interesting than others, with 666 Edit grabbing me with it's rapid fire rave synths. It's alright, yeah.

I wanna say that it is the futuristic album, but it's really not. It was made in 1990 and there were music like this, way before 90's. Besides that I can't hear anyhting for my personal taste.

House! Reminds of Smart Bar

Overall meh techno

Alkupuoliskolla tykkäsin popimmasta meiningistä, new wave -kaikuja. Sitten meni vähän turhan ysärireiveiksi, että olisi jaksanut keskittyä

Lahjakas duo iskee aidosti sävelletyt pätkänsä levyn kärkeen ja jättää loput junnaamaan omillaan.

Very repetitive and extremely dull

this feels very of its time. a few good songs but probably wouldn't listen again

Really? 15 tracks of intense, ear bleeding, nippy techno? Fuck no.

Hey, you know how electronic music started getting really popular and edgy in the 90s and all of these great groups came out and represented the genre really well? How about we select a group that nobody has heard of and hasn't done much for the genre, but they're from the British Isles, so fuck everybody's opinions, right? - The authors probably 2/5.

About the dreariest rave ever. A disappointing record.

Not my cup of tea. I felt like this album went on forever. Not to say that it is bad, but I am not flying on the same level as this album. Every song is extremely repetitive and drones on and on; I can appreciate the beat in each song being created, but only for so long. There are some cool new wave vibes happening on the opening track. Fave tracks: Move Any Mountain

Not a fan of electronica

Not as bad as I was worried it would be, as I didn't mind most of the songs that had words, but an hour of this was too much. Was considering a 3 at the beginning, but I stopped caring a few songs in. Better than some electronica I've had to listen to, but I'd still never willingly listen to it. My favourite song was Possible Worlds

Not awful to have on in the background in a mall salon, but really not compelling at all.

Nope, I disagree. I didn't need to hear that before I died. It's not at all clear to me what is so unique about it - just another "uh tiss" album. Apparently it was supposed to be a fusion of psychedelic rock and rave but I rarely heard the former. Maybe because I listened to the US reissue, with even more remixing. It was like wandering through an electronica wasteland from about track 4 to track 12 (opening track Move Any Mountain not bad, next two ok, and then...ugh except maybe for track 8 Make it Mine). I went out and found the original UK version on youtube. Not better.

A stupid and unnecessary inclusion. Uneventful dance tracks.

Apart from the two successful singles, Make It Mine and ProGen-Move Any Mountain, this is a boring album from the rave-era. Adamski, Orb, Orbital and Prodigy did this far better around the same period and would be worthy of listening to before you die. I could only listen to the US version, but I’m sure the first 10 or 11 tracks are similar enough to the original UK release. Disappointing.

Electrónica.

chill music, nothing more nothing less, acid dance for cleaning the house

The sound of the 90’s started off well but after a full album i was a bit sick of this.

No thanks. I don't even know if this is good or not. I try to at least make it all the way through each album once, but I couldn't do it here. Over an hour is way too much of this for me. It's not horrible, but there's just nothing I'm interested in hearing. Move Any Mountain sounded familiar, but that didn't redeem it. I'm confident the second half of the album wasn't going to change my mind.

Track 1: Move Any Mountian I like the beat but the vocals are boring and uninteresting. I like the rap from the guy I. The second verse. Track 2: Human NRG (Massey) Once again, the beat is nice. A bit trancey. There are some beep boops here and there. Not much singing from the vocalist. Track 3: Possible Worlds: Deep PSI Beat sounds good. There’s a silly little synth that comes in and there some reverb or a sort of vocal effect. I think it sounds cool. Mostly the same thing the whole way thru Track 4: Omega Amigo This is ok. I like the guys vocals. Track 5: Evil Is Even Too much going on here Track 6: Hyperreal Orbit I like this beat a lot. Track 7: Lightspan This is plain. Has a little piano. Track 8: Make It Mine I don’t like these guitars at all💀 also the vocalist sounds so awkward as if he wasn’t prepared to sing. This song tries to add a rock element to this album but it fails horribly. It just sounds out of place and cheesy. Track 9: Oxygen Restriction I don’t like this whispering. Sounds kinda eerie. I like that part of the song. Track 10: Hear Me Okay beat. I’m just bored Track 11: 666 Edit I like this one. Production is very cool sounding and the progression is nice. I like the vocal effects. Gets annoying after a while with the production tho Track 12: Make It Minimal Boring Track 13: Hyperreal Selector Nice beat. Track 14: Lightspan Soundwave There’s a little slide whistle sounding noise that is the most annoying thing I have ever heard. I don’t like it just for that. Track 15: Progen 91 (In The Land Of Oz) The vocalist talks again about moving mountains and this song is like all the other songs. Every song blends together and none of them have their own unique sound.

I listened to enough to know I don't like it.
