As of this review, this is the most recent album to feature in the list, at least until a new version of the book is published. Recency bias is hard to overcome. It's definitely a good album. Is it a great one? Arguably. Deserving of a spot on the list? I'm not sure. I suppose Lana Del Ray was a big name in music for a while and should feature somewhere, so why not 'Chemtrails Over the Country Club'? It's a nicely done, bittersweet singer-songwriter affair. It evokes feelings of rainless clouds covering an otherwise beautiful country scene, echoing the lyrics of beauty and loss. I nice surprise is the guest spot by Jackie-O-Motherfucker singer, Weyes Blood. Though frankly, I might have preferred one by her instead. Note to the author, 'Titanic Rising' would be a great addition in the next edition of the book. Until then, Lana Del Ray has been a lovely, melancholy listen.

Chemtrails Over The Country Club - Lana Del Rey (2021) Monótono. Melhores músicas: Tulsa Jesus Freak, Dark But Just A Game, Not All Who Wander Are Lost, Breaking Up Slowly (part. Nikki Lane) Piores músicas: N/A 2,5/5

I guess not bad for a privileged gen z Patsy Cline. Sounds nice and lush and a bit like artificial empathy.

Qualcosa di carino, ma mi aspettavo meglio. Però "Dark but just a game" non male.

Lana Del Rey has a very pretty voice, and I know she is capable of creating some great musical pieces that play into her strengths. However, this album feels like it misses most of those. It stars songs that go on too long and do very little to change, so unless you enjoy some waxing poetic lyrics over somber, subtly country instrumentals, you are best to look elsewhere for your pop-coated Americana. It's innocent enough, and if you like this you'll probably like most of Lana's catalog, but it's mostly just okay with moments that hint at something more; something... on a different album.

I haven't been the biggest fan of Del Rey in the past. But I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Her voice did not annoy me nearly as much as I was expecting.

I hear this is not the LDR that should be on her, but who knows. It's ok, there are real songs under all the occasionally annoying vocal affectation. I like the opener just cause its kinda storytelling with some cool choices/focus

I'll give it credit where its due. It's a lot better than I was expecting. I liked the musical arrangement and instrumentation. With that said, I'm not sure if this is worthy of being on the 1001 album you must listen to before dying list...especially for an album released in 2021.

The "Down-at-the-men-in-music-business-conference" line from "White Dress" is such a funny phrasing. Otherwise, Pretty nice chill vibe. I like LDR.

It's pretty nice and she is very talented. Left me wanting more!

pretty good

Alt for mye hvisking, og dramatikk

Some good moments but not her finest moment overall. Some songs go on too long and there is a sameness as the album progresses. The previous album would be a much more worthy addition to the list. Good not great.

Honestly, Norman Fucking Rockwell! should be the Lana Del Rey album on this list. None other. By a long shot. That said... listening to this album again made me appreciate it a bit more than I did previously. There isn't a bad song on this, and it's impressive to se her development as a songwriter. However. There were too many times here when a decision was made to never go beyond a very tame mid-tempo at best. And given the production and instrumentation is pretty much identical on all songs, it's an album that easily sort of drifts into the background, and at some point you realise it's over. Which is a pity, because there are some great songs here.

I don’t typically enjoy Lana albums. Never liked the style she sings in or many of the musical choices she makes, either with writing, production, etc. Not that any of its bad, was just never my thing. I did enjoy this one, however. More than I thought, at least. Not too memorable, but it was nice and listenable. 3/5

strong tfw no gf vibes. would listen again but only when cuddling in such a scenario. a few songs I found really good though

Very one note but no more so than half the other albums on here. At points I thought it was going to change gear with some of the collab but Lana is just doing the same old thing.

The vocal choice takes some getting used to. Musically it isn't bad. I just don't really want to listen to 45 minutes of drab. The lyrics were a little weak except for the Joni Mitchell cover. Which also was probably the best song.

Melancholy, contemplative pop. Very soulful voice

Usually I like Lana Del Rey but this one was a bit underwhelming. I did enjoy it for the most part though.

Not my fav Lana.

It was all right. The songs all sounded pretty similar, but it wasn't a bad sound.

Good album Standout songs: Chemtrails over the country club Wild at heart Breaking up Slowly

Lana tends to horrifically bore me, but this is my favorite of hers so far. 2.5/5

I'm not a massive Lane Del Rey fan or anything but I've heard maybe 3 other albums and I liked them all. This is nice but less impactful on me than those at first listen. I suspect I'd get more into it if/when I listen again

Not a fan of Lana Del Ray's voice, and the songs were too trippy/dreamy to hold my attention.

Cool title - but music was just OK. Coffee house music. Heavy Joni influence that just doesn't catch.

There’s nothing wrong with it but also nothing right about it. Completely lacks any real feel. I think I fell asleep and then woke up to find the same track still playing. Sad indictment of modern day stuff that purports to be music. And Lana is one of the better ones.

You know what, I don't really get Lana Del Ray or what is interesting about her. She has this like mellow chanteuse vintage sound, but I just generally don't vibe like that.

Rating: 6/10 Pleasant to listen to but overall too long and boring.

Für mich erstaunlich viel Tiefe in den Texten und Komplexität im Gesang. Nett anzuhören.

It was pretty good, I liked the piano and building. Her vocal layering sounded nice and she has nice voice, though it could be annoying at time. Favorite song: Chemtrails Over The Country Club

A bunch of lazy ballads, with kind of juvenile lyricism. She's not bad, but I mean, if you've heard one you've heard them all. Stand-out: Wild At Heart

Een dame die prima liedjes in elkaar draait en prima kan zingen, maar wel weinig varieert met haar zang. Het wordt mede daardoor al snel saai. Mijn smaak is het niet, maar een ruime 3 voor de kwaliteit.

Hele rustige, ingetogen americana.

I'm ok with Lana lol.

Beautiful but made me sad. I’ll listen again next time I need to cry or am feeling sorry for myself 😂

Didn't really find much interesting about it so far. Perhaps I I'll try listening to more Lana Del Rey stuff to properly find what all the fuss around her is about. I mean it's okay, but a lil too homogenous and bland for me. It lacks some of that sauce

Pleasant, and some clever lyrics. But doesn’t hold my attention.

i dig lana’s vibe but it’s also kind of boring sometimes

Taylor before Taylor was Taylor - and an interesting one to get as the Swifties gather in Scotland. Produced in the modern way, with muddy vocals and all the songs sounding the same, but more interesting than some of the more bubble-gum pop efforts out there. Like the AOR/MOR of pop music - but I can't work out if that's a compliment or not.

I think I've listened to a couple of Lana Del Rey albums before (I'm pretty certain I've listened to Ready To Die, and maybe I listened to Norman Fuckign Rockwell!), but I've not listened to this one. I was curious to see if this album would make me a fan of Lana. Overall, I thought this album was fine. The songwriting was good, but I expected better from Jack Antonoff. The arrangements were nice as well, but again, nothing here impressed me that much. Lana's vocals are nice, and the tone of her voice really helped carry the mood of this album. One of the biggest letdowns for me on this album is that there's not really much here to separate it from other similar works. My favorite thing about this album was the mood and atmosphere throughout it. This album felt like a beautiful and warm day, but with an air of something being slightly off, like a bright dream with a nightmare on the horizon. The lyrics cover a wide variety of topics, but I enjoyed that nostalgia and denial of present troubles seemed to be the common themes that tied everything together. "White Dress" was my favorite single, with the title track and "Let Me Love You Like A Woman" tied for a close second. However, "Dance Till We Die" was a hidden gem; I really loved the light horns that were used throughout it. Even though this album was just fine, it was still pleasant to listen to, and I wouldn't be opposed to returning to it for another listen.

This is a bit difficult. On one hand, there's good songwriting and her beautiful voice, on the other hand, there is the delivery that sometimes becomes a bit annoying. There is too much whispering and still, the music is just some distant ornament.

I really love Lana Del Rey's earlier albums, so it's such a shame not to have the chance to properly review them as part of this process. Her debut album in particular is superb, including the EP that goes along with it. There's so many big songs in there, and lots of different producers bringing different vibes to the table, while still keeping it a consistent whole. I started to fall out of love a little bit after so many albums, as they veered away from what I thought was more varied, interesting music, into more one-note 'sad jazz singer' territory only. Whenever I see a new LDR track drop, I strongly suspect it to be along those lines, and it almost always is, much to my disappointment. Which brings us to this album.. Right off the bat with the first tracks it's clear that the above holds. It feels way more one-note, with her floaty, whispery vocals not really changing all that much, or the feeling of the songs really changing that much at all. I still like her vibe, and if I didn't have this comparison I'm sure I would be way more up on this. There's definitely moments where the music is quite affecting and her talent shines through. Despite what I said, I do like the sad singer vibe, it's just that I feel like so much of this has been well-trodden by her before, and too much of the album passes by without grabbing the attention as much as it should. Parts of it are very good, and there ARE some different sounding tracks in there, but overall I have to mark it down. We're talking 3.5 rounded down, so still a recommendation overall I guess. But it's not an album I'll revisit very often, if at all. The best thing about this was having the opportunity here to say that I think Born to Die and Ultraviolence are both stunning, 5 star records.

Not bad, it’s chill. Not my favorite project from her but it’s chill, feels complete and concise.

Better than expected, but a bit boring

She's got a great voice, but the music is challenging to listen to. I can't really tell what it is. Maybe it's because the musical accompaniment doesn't bring a lot to it?

A bit over wrought in places. Some ok tracks, but it also gets a bit repetitive.

Pretty similar songs, but quite enjoyable

When Lana clicks it really hits for me but I just kinda feel underwhelmed with some tracks. One of the artists I wish o liked more 3/5

Beautiful voice and nice to have in the background. for me it was nothing groundbreaking.

Singer-songwriter. Pretty mixed feelings about this album. I normally like the soft singer-songwriter music kinda like Phoebe Bridgers or something like Weyes Blood, who happens to be featured in a song on this album. But for some reason Lana Del Rey just doesn't scratch that same itch. At least not as consistently as others. Really didn't like the first song, weird whispery vocals and weird cadence in a part of the chorus or something. The rest of the album is mostly fine, nothing too crazy for. I did like the last few songs a good bit more. Instrumentals in all the songs are pretty good, still just nothing crazy. Overall not very impressed with the album, it's good I guess just not for me. Probably won't revisit. Light 3.5/5

love lana, but this is her weakest album

Never got Lana Del Ray before really but I have been enjoying this first listen. Not that much variety admittedly, although she's clearly prolific, with 8 albums in 10 years or something. Makes her discography somewhat impenetrable however if you're not already into it. Not sure it's for me long term, but I'll probably come back to this one as it feels like it would reward repeat listens. I did lose interest before the end though, too much the same.

Yawna Del Meh.

i think the reptiloids made this one

There isn’t a bad song on this, but it almost completely just blends together, largely lacking differentiation between the sad slow songs, with the exception of the bridge in the second to last song, which comes too late to really spice things up anyways. 3 because it’s all enjoyable, but it just doesn’t work as an album.

Pleasant throughout, I enjoyed enough for a 3 I think.

Interesting vocals and music. This is a 4 if I’m in the right mood

Don't mind her whole vibe - it's archly gothic and a little stalker/bunny boiler, but every song sounds like the others - and that seems to be the case for her 2024 stuff when compared to this It is all quite soporific too - not really stuffed with party bangers

I was expecting her to sound a bit more like Adele, actually. She has a bit more of a torch song feel to her voice, and a lot of the songs lent to that feel as well. The second to last track, though, REALLY hit hard. More of that, please. I think she could go as a good rocker. Top tracks: "Dance Til We Die," title track

Rare keuze om deze plaat uit de jaren '20 te includeren. Het is niet slecht, maar vooral eentonig en een beetje saai. Lana heeft een goede stem, maar die kan niet het hele album dragen.

Never listened to her before. I get why all the girls like her now. Not my cup of tea.

Generally speaking, I do like Lana’s whole shtick (if it’s fair to call it that), but apparently it stretches my patience when taken as a complete album. Some of the lyric choices (overly twee? Anachronistic?) that I can overlook or even find charming in a standalone song were hard not to roll my eyes at here.

This is the first Lana Del Rey album I have listened to, fitting before her headline performance at Coachella this weekend. On the surface, this is weirdly new to appear on this “1001 albums to listen to” list given that it's barely three years old. Then you look around and find that it was added to the 2021 edition of the list within months of release. All this to say that it might have been a presumptuous addition because this sounds to me like it does not need to be listened to before you die. Sure, there is some merit here with it being a baroque pop album that sounds aesthetically pleasing; a song like "Dark But Just a Game" is a good example of this style. But this album rarely leaves much of an impression, as Lana's wistful cooing and lyrical clunkiness don't work well, combined with Jack Antonoff's sheen pop production that does not mesh well here. There are times when the lyrical themes conflict with each other. I can't imagine Lana is "Wild at Heart" and wanderlust while embracing traditional ideals like standing by your man on "Let Me Love You Like a Woman". What surprised me was that this album ends with a cover of Joni Mitchell's "For Free" where Weyes Blood takes the final verse. Given her rich vocal timbre, it's as if she steals the show from Lana right at the end, which was probably not intended. Perhaps it could have been a ceremonial passing of the torch, but that wouldn't work because Lana followed up with another album the same year this dropped. I have to assume there's a better Lana album out there because this was not a good first impression. It's certainly not a must-hear.

nice album

Pleasant music.

I guess this was largely good, but only a couple tracks stood out on first listen, and the album was similar enough throughout that I was looking forward to it ending. Honestly baffled why this album is on the list given how recent + underwhelming it is. 2.5.

J'ai écouté ceci après Joni Mitchell et j'y vois une filiation directe. Cela dit, j'ai toujours une attraction-répulsion pour les petites voix chuchotées. Je suis indécise.

Pretty much new territory for me but highly enjoyable all the same. Top-class song-writing and a rich production, with “Yosemite” the possible standout track. Lana also channels her inner Joni on “For Free” and “Let Me Love You Like a Woman” is fabulous.

Inoffensive, dreamy, almost background music. Yes, chemtrails over the country club, artificial clouds over a care free life. 3*

Surprising myself with a middle of the road 3 hear. I love it but nothing too fancy

I liked this more than I thought I would.

I'm torn about Lana. I've tried to power through her stuff before – it's the genre of stuff I generally like, but for some reason, her music really rubs me the wrong way. This was pretty good as long as I wasn't really listening to it. But really paying attention, it's track after track of dour mumble-whisper. Kind of samey. Not a lot of depth for me to get involved with.

Turns out I only really like a select few Lana Del Ray songs. It was a good album to have on while I was cooking, but I wasn’t all that impressed given how much I like some of her songs.

Average Lana record. Some good songs, but the majority is mid. 5/10

At times it was like listening to Tori Amos having an asthma attack but I didn't hate it like I thought I was going to. Could have done with fewer 'downside of fame' moans though.

A very good album that stumbles at the beginning and end. Not my favorite Lana.

A good portion of this record I really like. It was well put together, well written, atmospheric, and generally quite well considered. Much better than I anticipated. Although Id only ever heard one LDR song before and it was ace (black bathing suit) so Im not sure why I didn’t think this would be as good. Bits of it at times reminded me of that first Marika Hackman EP, but it never properly reaches those heights for me. The problem is when it goes on, it really goes on. Some songs start out great but get a bit dull and repetitive. A few could’ve had a minute or two knocked off for me liking. Overall though, canny. Not sure if Id be back bar a few songs, including White Dress, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Wild at Heart, Yosemite. 3.5

2.5/5. Meh, not really for me.

18 albums in before I am given a woman. 18!!!! Never listened to this album before. Didn’t enjoy it as much as some of her other stuff, but its fine. 3/5

Truly surprised that I kinda enjoyed

I enjoyed this quite a bit. It was quite beautiful at times and the spare arrangements really allow you sink into the mood the album sets.

Take out your turquoise and all of your jewels Go to the market, the kids' swimming pools Baby, what's your sign? My moon's in Leo, my Cancer is sun You won't play, you're no fun Well, I don't care what they think Drag racing my little red sports car I'm not unhinged or unhappy, I'm just wild I'm on the run with you, my sweet love There's nothing wrong contemplating God Under the chemtrails over the country club Wearing our jewels in the swimming pool Me and my sister just playing it cool Under the chemtrails over the country club Meet you for coffee at the elementary schools We laugh about nothing as the summer gets cool It's beautiful how this deep normality settles down over me I'm not bored or unhappy, I'm still so strange and wild You're in the wind, I'm in the water Nobody's son, nobody's daughter Watching the chemtrails over the country club Suburbia, The Brentwood Market What to do next? Maybe we'll love it White picket chemtrails over the country club Decent. 3/5

I enjoy Lana's slightly haunting vocals, her self-harmonizing, and her vaguely dark and off-kilter musical and lyrical take on the Americana genre. She takes a very classic genre and breathes new life into it. Even the album cover and album title reflect that bizarre musical point of view. That said, all of Lana's songs on this album are pretty much slow, croony ballads. The songs individually are all well done, but an entire album of this particular style with little variation from it does start to drag a bit. I don't know enough about Lana's discography to know why this album specifically might be deserving of a place on this project over her other albums, but I do believe Lana deserves a spot on here, if for nothing else than taking a genre not often seen in popular music today and doing something fresh with it. I think this is probably about a 3.5 for me, but the one-trick pony aspect of it keeps me from wanting to round up to 4. Nonetheless, a good album!

this is my second endeavor listening to lana, after hearing people rave about her music for years. my first was her newest, "Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd" that I listened to outside of this project to listen to this past year's Grammy Album of the Year nominees. as compared to that album, i liked this one better, but it has a lot of the same issues that I had with her most recent, which is mainly that her albums just bore me. I don't mind soft, acoustic, ballad-y music, but her music just ends up dragging for me. i like the songwriting on this one better, i actually think it's interesting and catchy at points. i really liked the joni mitchell cover! but that shows me that i think her songwriting isn't for me - when she's covering songwriters i love, it works really well. but overall, i can just say that i'm getting the sense her music isn't for me. i don't find it particularly haunting or beautiful, it just feels very middle of the road to me. it isn't bad, i just find it a bit boring.

Album 324 of 1001 Lana Del Rey - Chemtrails Over The Country Club Rating : 3.5 / 5 While being a decent album of ballads, I see no reason how an album that has been out for less than 3 years could be included on a list of albums that you must hear "before you die". It hasn't stood the test of time needed to prove itself worthy of that consideration. That being said, for its genre, it is a fine album. Nice songwriting, production & performance. Will add her to the list of impressive singer/songwriters I've found as I go through the list.

I think this is the first full album I've listened to by Lana Del Rey even if I was a fan of some of her hit songs from her first album over 10 years ago. This is an inoffensive album, a good late night listen, and I quite enjoyed her voice. My main problem with this album is that it is overproduced and that it all sounds a tad too samey. But it is still more interesting music than other manufactured stars like Taylor Swift, for instance. I was considering a 2 but I'm round this up to 3.

I love Lana but a bit mystified why her earlier albums aren't on here? It's a great album but not the best Lana. Great tunes, dreamy tunes and bold female statement.

Op zich best een chill album! Misschien moet ik iets meer van haar luisteren, dacht dat ik haar saai vond.

She seems like a really interesting person and there were some nice tracks on this album, including a decent cover of 'For Free' but, sadly, it was all a little unmemorable!

I've always been sort of okay with Lana Del Rey, despite feeling that her entire persona is manufactured and marketed. She has a decent voice and is a decent songwriter. I enjoyed this album, although it could use a little variation, maybe an occasional uptempo number would be good! 3 stars.

I love her voice, enjoyed the album, but would probably never listen again.

Such a shame it's so one paced. Decent listen but doesn't touch some of her other work

Pleasant but all same paced and probably will not listen again. Opening track possibly the stand out.

Liked it more than I thought I would but very repetitive sound. Not sure that I needed to listen to this one before I died, but I didn’t hate it. Her voice is incredible but this feels like a gospel album. 2.5 stars. Best track was Dance Till We Die

I say this having just LOVED the most recent LDR album that this just didn't do it for me. Perfectly nice but nothing that slaps like the new album.

decent

I had never heard a single note of Lana Del Ray's music. This is much more mellow than I had anticipated her music being. I almost feel like I can't appropriately judge this album, as it was released just a few years ago and I haven't heard any other Lana Del Ray albums. This is much better than I had imagined a Lana Del Ray album would be, though perhaps too mellow. I'm not even sure this is the best LDR album, but it feels like this album was influenced by others more than it has influenced others...so far.

Lana Del Rey has a tendency to command one's attention while slipping through their fingers. On the follow-up to the album that permanently cemented Lana as a generational figure, she emits a swooning, dreamy vibe that would not let up. Nods to Joni Mitchell, The White Stripes and her own experiences in a barbarous industry abound and add to Lana's own powerful mythos. No longer is Lana Del Rey someone who is born to die, Lana Del Rey is an auteur; someone whose cinematic grasp on music will become a touchstone for those who shall walk her path in due time. Favorites: White Dress, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Let Me Love You Like a Woman, Wild at Heart, Dark But Just a Game, Breaking Up Slowly, Dance Till We Die.

Not bad. Just very repetitive which is typical for her.

Not really a fan of the breathy female vocal style

I really want to understand Lana but I can't.

Depressingly ok

It was fine.

Beetje een toning. Maar wel fijne melodieen. Mooie zuivere zang binnen de lijntje. Soms een beetje droevig en saai. Goeie productie

Not a bad album, I preferred it to Taylor Swift who I would put in the same category. The songs sounded very haunting and classically American, like the laments of a cowboy’s widow. I don’t like the album name though, it’s just alliteration, like ‘cornflakes in the cat carrier’.

Very chill album. Pretty much exactly what you would expect from Lana del Rey. 3.5/5.

nice vocals, should probably give it a few more listens to see if there is something to it, but i dont really want to

not rly my style but good songwriting!

It’s alright. She’s got a good voice but not really my type of music

Merci à Robert de nous avoir proposé comme seul album d'une de mes artistes préférées, son pire album en carrière.

I am not her target audience, and this is pretty "hip." That said, I'll give it 3 stars. Too much autotune.

Produced by Jack Antonoff, which tracks. Millennial women love Lana, but as a gen Z, I only like her ok. All of the songs blur together for me. Nice, but the same. 3.2.

Lana Del Rey is fantastic, but this is probably not her best album. feel like its too far gone at this point, sacrificing listenability in order to focus on a specific style. Because of this, its quite boring.

Didn’t like it as much as I expected to. Oh well!

Musically fine, if on the bland side. Some nice moments and hints of a great atmospheric sound, but much of this is pretty forgettable. It’s like she almost headed into something interesting, but doesn’t go quite far enough to stick the landing. Fave Songs: Not All Who Wander Are Lost, Dark but Just a Game, Yosemite

Sounds pretty I guess, but hard to make heads or tails of, honestly.

Nothing special

good but not my style

I personally think the sentiment that Lana is a one trick pony is a little bit unfair generally, but this album is certainly one trick. There are no highs/energetic tracks like “National Anthem” or “Off to the Races” to balance out the slow tracks like in her better albums. It is also an odd choice from her albums to include in this list, given its newness. Despite this, it’s a pleasant album (to me, at least) to listen to, in contrast to some of the ambitious, failed albums in the list. Which means it has a floor rankings-wise.

Lana makes good study music, will probably come back to it

Talent for sure. Sleeper tho.

Beautiful, just wish I connected to the lyrics more.

I was hoping for NFR since that's the Lana Del Ray that I know and really like but I suppose this is a pretty important album in her discography at this point. Aside from wild at heart, not all who wander are lost, and especially dark but just a game, I was mildly bored by this album. Even those tracks, though are all somewhat similar. It was well produced and lana has a great voice but I just don't vibe with a lot of it, even the title track was pretty mid. Dark but just a game was really good but it was still no NFR or Doing Time. It's weird because this is pretty similar to the lana stuff I like but it just isn't doing it for me in the same way.

I am a big backer of the modern folk revival. For once it was a trend I was ahead of the curve on. Lana tends to be hit or miss for me. I think this is a good album and honestly if I wasn't coming at it from an analytical perspective of a folk lover I would like it more. For me as a classic and indie folk lover it just has a bit too much of a pop influence at times. I think that does lend itself into its own space in music. I think the other thing that detracts from it for me is just how melodramatic her voice comes across in the slower parts. I like depressing music more than most, but her voice just depresses me in a way that my typical sad folk doesn't. It is a really good album, but I am just overly critical of folk albums. I think a few more listens to adjust and I would probably rate it higher I'm just not there yet with it.

This record suprised me, I ended up liking it far more than I expected. The first 2 songs especially blew me away. Incredible vocals, and I liked the minimal instrumentation with the pianos and light synths. It all felt quite ethereal which felt quite refreshing to the usual bubblegum electronic pop of the decade so far. I did find the further I got into the album, it all got a little repetitive however.

The album is cohesive and consistent. I generally like the melodies. The Jack Antonoff production and songwriting assistance is obvious, so much so that I feel this veers into Taylor Swift territory on more than one occasion. And with that comes a little too much familiarity for my liking. The chord progressions aren't particularly adventurous, the tempo doesn't change much, and you rarely get any musical tension building into impactful crescendo's. If the hooks were top notch (like Taylor Swift's), this would be a fantastic pop record. However, Lana Del Ray seems to shy away from actual hooks in favor of melodies that fit a vibe. I can certainly appreciate and enjoy that, but a full album of it can get old. My favorite song is definitely "For Free." It's a shame that its relegated to the end of the album.

Good voice. A couple boring songs but mostly enjoyable. Ez 3.5

pretty boring. weak 3

I like it 3.5

This album is good background music, but nothing spectacular. Very minimilist musical accompaniment. Favourite songs: Breaking Up Slowly, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Let Me Love You Like a Woman, Wild at Heart, Not All Who Wander are Lost Least favourite songs: White Dress, Yosemite 3/5

interesting listen. dark yet soothing vocals. not normally my thing, but i can see the allure. there were a few songs that i dug. didn’t hate it.

She has a fanstastic voice. This album was way more low-key than a lot of her other stuff. What I really don't like is that whisper singing thing she does a lot on this album. So menos puntos.

OK album, nothing really stood out.

I would have put Norman Fucking Rockwell well ahead of this as an inclusion on the list.

Pretty boring ,can’t really remember any song or lyrics. Her voice is nice but the music is quite slow and melancholy.I could see myself enjoying this more in another mood.

Such a disappointment after NFR. All the songs are at the same tempo, and sound like overproduced mush. Unnecessary Joni Mitchell cover only highlights the difference in songwriting quality. Shame, barely scrapes a 3.

Fine, but underwhelming - really didn't enjoy the Joni Mitchell cover at the end.

I'm not going to lie, I'm surprised to see this on this list. I don't know one single thing about it other than it DID NOT SELL when I worked at Green Light. Of course that's not necessarily indicative of quality buuuuut...I'll just say I was curious to see why this was on here. Starting sleepy and boring as fuck this might be one of those rare instances where the middle of the album is actually the best. I really started off not caring for Lana's whispery almost inaudible singing but when she chose to let lose I really really liked her voice. I thought this album shone brightest during its biggest moments where the music becomes grandiose and pretty. By about halfway through I was surprisingly bought in. I can't help but notice some similarities to T. Swift's career defining album 'Folklore', which make me think this is a response and attempt to replicate the runaway success of that album. It doesn't quite reach the heights that I think it was striving for but there are little nuggets of really cool stuff buried here. 3

boring but harmless

It's a really lovely sounding album. Like a 70s cocaine opera but with a few modern production twists. But after a while, the songs do get a bit samey. The current trend of 'Wah I'm rich but sad' pop is a bit tired really and I can't really relate, cos my parents names aren't in blue on Wikipedia...

3,5. draumapopp, hlusta aftur.

Nice. Probably like the city of the same name too. Very Nice.

as with every single lana record it's the same three song on repeat. It's a snoozefest that you mildly enjoy

-i have listened to SO MUCH lana del rey, but funny enough not this album -first song is definitely not her best songwriting or singing -lanas voice is so pretty and i will never get over it -dark but just a game feels like old lana -this is definitely very chill and laid back -OH i know breaking up slowly -very beautiful song -definitely my favorite on the album -this is getting 3 stars because it was nice to listen to and i like lana but this is not her best album

Meh, kind of one dimensional. Worth a listen once but wouldn't pick it up again. Thanks Lana :)

I want to know what happened at the Men in Music Business Conference, down in Orlando.

Fair to middling

I can see why she’s so popular with teens. This is exactly what I would expect a high school kid to listen to as they process their first break up. I was bored a lot. Although, some of the music choices and singing were quite nice. Some of the lyrics were confusing, but the message of each song was made obvious. This could also be used to replace any white noise machines that help people sleep, just a little psa

Not as good as her earlier albums but decent.

It was apparently too easy to forget how strange an installment this was. My memory of NFR is even hazier, and Blue Banisters fades into the length of there's a tunnel. Chemtrails is, no doubt, the right representative for contemporary Lana on a list like this. The old elements are there or just behind, but the record feels like an artifact of some alternate '10s timeline. Not sticky like the records Lana Del Rey actually made then, for whatever reason: Age, place, change in the approach to "deluxe" releases and rereleases. So a possibly premature add more than deserves rethought.

Bah. Normalito.

Beautiful, but too early to be in the list

Sad girl energy that I can see the allure of, but LDR never spoke to me as a guy.

Kind of a one vocal trick pony? Enough interesting musicians to elevate the overall composition, though as always it seems with modern pop, produced within an inch of its life.

Taylor Swift country but fused with the vibe of a depressed alien streetwalker. have to admire her consistency on this album. 3.5/5

Have always love LDR. Not her best album, but still good as always.

Beautiful singer, but album remains a bit dull. Could enjoy this in a spa.

I could sleep to this

Like the cover

It's fine

Not bad, not her best. 6/10

not gay or a woman sorry

3/5. Beautiful and haunting, the songs feel annoying after a bit of relistens, especially that first song. Wish it was exciting, I don’t care during some songs and just skip them. But dang, can she sing and make me feel like every song is everything and the most important thing in the world. It’s just not after thinking about it for a few seconds.

Icon for many, do like her voice of course but just not my music,

This album is all vibe. It is an easy, pleasant and relaxing listen. Although there is maybe not much to the songs, it is instantly appealing. I feel like it is unlikely to have much longevity, though. It is also quite heavily front loaded. Enjoyable overall, but its charm is of a fading variety. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: White Dress Date listened: 18/06/23

Decent, I guess. I do listen to a lot of recent music made for moody teenage girls, they have this melancholic element that I love. But... it's easy to do such things wrong. It's easy to turn it from melancholic to boring, or at least droning. There's a lot of similar sounding but better music out there, but I guess Lana's name is big enough to get picked for this list. Maybe she even pioneered such sound. But why would I care, it won't change the fact that this album is pretty boring.

Good album. Definitely captures the sound of a group of artists currently popular.

Liked the album, doesn’t feel as strong as her latest, but enjoyed the listen. White Dress was great

Interesting choice for a more recent addition to this list. For sure, Lana Del Rey occupies a a certain niche in popular music on the very end melancholic spectrum in the business. Her songs evocate some great memories from the past, or just general summertime sadness. It's in the same mold on this new album, "Chemtrails Over The Country Club". Every song is very sentimental and keeps you daydreaming. The opening song is especially good, "White Dress" really puts the sadness to the maximum level, really great listen. The problem is, Lana presses the pedal to the metal, and never releases it. Her vocal becomes very tiring and after three or four songs in a row you actually can't hear anything, it's just a constant wall of wailing. This album really needs a slight change of pace, or maybe an instrumental song to give you a break. It's just unlistenable in this form. I still like Lana's songs, but I am sure I will be able to listen to only one song in her repertoire, and then few days of break.

On this album, Lana takes a more diaristic approach to lyrics and an almost spoken-word approach to singing. The album is good, but it stripped back some of the reasons I enjoy Lana’s vocals and music. It is difficult to rate this album in isolation especially when it was Lana’s next release after “Norman F*****g Rockwell!” - her Grammy-nominated album which I consider to be her best album. But given that context, it also isn’t surprising that Lana decided to switch thing ups a bit for “Chemtrails.” If it was up to me, “Norman” would replace “Chemtrails” on this list. My favorite track on the album is probably Yosemite, which is unsurprising because it was originally written for one of Lana’s earlier albums and has some of those LDR hallmarks. I also enjoyed the country-inspired tracks Breaking Up Slowly, Dance Till We Die, and For Free. A great album for a mellow, rainy afternoon. But not necessarily a “must listen” in my opinion. For that reason, 3/5.

Kind of excited to hear this one. I've heard the name Lana Del Rey for a while, never heard a single song (as far as I know), I only know she's a big deal in some circles. Here we go. On any other day I think I would hate this whisper singing. But this is working for me. And several times this broke out of the background on a busy work day. I don't know - I think I need to listen to this again, so that's an optimistic 3.

Liked it overall, but was surprised by how low key it was. I guess I don't know much of her work except for that "Summertime Sadness" tune, which is A) almost a dance song and B) not done in the whisper style of "White Dress" and some of the others here. I'm amazed by how prevalent this style of singing is. Who do we trace this back to? Billie Eilish seems to bear some responsibility, but I know there are folks in this vein who predate her considerably. Anywho, I didn't mind it so much here! Lyrically I thought there was some interesting stuff going on and I'd listen to this again, but I'm more inclined to check out "Norman Fuckin' Rockwell" at long last now.

A little torchsinger-esque. I didn’t hate it and I didn’t love it. Her voice is really nice but all around not that interesting to me.

its fine exactly what you'd expect a Lana album to sound like

How did she make the same song 11 times without them all actually being the same song?

Okay so I always wanted to be a Lana del Rey girlie but I just am not. I wish I was I love the vibe and I support her but I do not get on with these tunes like they’re fine but they haven’t altered my brain chemistry. Maybe if I had a tumblr idk

DOWNATTHEMENINMUSICBUSINESS CONFERENCE The first two tracks are fantastic and the rest is kind of fine. Blue Bannisters is better

La toune est bonne mais c'est l'album au conplet. Un bel artiste 3

I am a fan of Lana del Rey but I didn't care for this album. Felt kind of lackluster comparatively for the rest of her work. I like it as background.

Wasn't bad... Only thing I know by her is the doin time song which I hate.. so it was better than that lol. Little bland, but good for background music. 4-5/10

Die Songs schwimmen ineinander, das Album wird zum großen, unausdifferenzierbaren Block. Sound ist gefällig, aber nicht allzu spannend. Gut zum Rotweintrinken und über Sex reden

If Norman’s not on here I’m gonna be upset.

Surprisingly OK, did not hate this but still not something I would go out of my way to listen to.

Some great songwriting and Lana's voice definitely oozes mood and melancholy. Nothing quite hooked me enough to go back to it again but there were many songs I was impressed with for the feelings it evoked.

This is hard to review. Lana's voice is great but the songs started to blend together a bit. I think some more variety would have really helped the melancholy vocal style feel more dramatic if it wasn't in every song. Still a good listen but not something I will come back to.

Ugh, Lana has a great vocal until she gets super whispery and breathy and then she completely loses me. This is a pretty album but I don’t see myself listening to it anymore

Dreamy I didn't like it on the first listen but it grew on me. It is a bit samey though, nothing really stands out

Wasn't great wasn't bad. A solid 3.

First listen

the only real thing i knew about this album before listening to it (other than album the album's reception) was the strange instagram post announcing the album cover where she said that she wasn't racist because she "dated rappers". i'm would be glad to say that the album is better than that post but i think that was pretty easy to do. the production is gorgeous—especially on the guitars—and the lyrics are poetic as always but this time, more positive than usual. however, there's a big chunk of songs in the middle of the tracklist that i feel like i could do without but maybe that's just my bias against piano ballads most of the time. but overall, pretty good.

Well I’ve never listened to a whole Lana album, I kinda like it, she’s like a softer Chan Marshall

This is my first exposure to Lana del Rey and it was an interesting experience. I like Jack Antonoff produced stuff so I didn't hate this album, but still it felt like it was always stuck in 2nd gear. Maybe that's her vibe, but it definitely felt like it was missing something.

Los Angeles Through The Looking Glass

I find Lana Del Rey to be consistently bland, and this album is totally unoffensive.

Lana's voice is certainly a high point of her music, even if at times the highly stylized production renders it slightly monotonous; her voice is an exceptional vehicle for expression when it's allowed to shine through the textural haze more naturally (Let Me Love You Like a Woman). Her lyrics, often beautifully stark and flowing, are at times marred by awkward structure to my ears. The tracks that lean slightly more aggressively into their arrangement, allowing it cut through more strongly (Dark But Just a Game, Dance Till We Die) stand out to me. Some beautiful textures throughout, but a bit dynamically and sonically stagnant for me; undeniably well executed though, and an artist with a well defined style. Favorite Tracks: Dark but Just a Game Breaking up Slowly Dance Till We Die

Dreamy and wistful, this is a little bit Joni and a little bit Tori but is definitely a lot of poignancy. Here LDR shows off her vocal range as well as her lyrical storytelling . The songs are narratives that draw you in and sound deceptively pretty. The beginning falsetto put me slightly off balance, but once the folksy singer-songwriter vibe set in, I was happy to go along with the ride. A strong 3.5.

Good but for a rainy day. Mellow slow soft songs

Strange, I enjoyed Lana Del Rey's previous album but this does absolutely nothing for me. I can't knock it as it is not bad but there is nothing good it great either. Middle of the road.

Solid, but I don’t understand how this album made the list over Norman Fucking Rockwell. Her range is wider than this.

Solid sangskrivning og vokal, meget flydende og dejligt, lidt for meget ballade måske

Nice voice but a pretty bland pop album

I like her voice and her sound. But this was not anything memorable. And once you've listened to 2-3 songs in a row, you realize that she's a one-trick pony. This was a nice listen, but very middle of the road.

Spent last Saturday listening to LDR which was my first extended play and it was pretty chill. I don't like all the L.A. vampy-ness though. Brave introduced me to the title track the same day in the car on the way to Jen's house. Good stuff but I kept thinking Phoebe Bridgers also sings about chemtrails then I just started thinking "what are chemtrails" then I remembered it was like a conspiracy theory about government control through contrails then I thought "what the heck are contrails anyway, maybe there is something to the chemtrails theory because contrails are just as unlikely" then I thought "wait am I becoming a conspiracy theorist" to which I thought "maybe LDR is in on it and this song is a subliminal attempt to get me to question the chemtrail theory" then I thought that sort of fits because I remembered LDR's debut on SNL was a disaster and I thought "oh this person can kiss her career goodbye and tha'ts what should happen because I think she started out as a youtuber" all of which is analogous to the govt's pattern of usually messing things up at first like the obamacare website but now we are all like "oh obamacare its great, lets go on the website and give over all our info to the NSA" but then I thought "why would she have a song and album title that basically gives away the whole scheme" but I thought "maybe LDR is going rogue! and will actually save us all!" but of course I couldnt be the only one who figured that out so then I started worrying about LDR's safety because really have any of us seen LDR in person! If they can fake Melania they can fake LDR who probably got disappeared to guantanamo. Then I snapped out of it because the light was about to turn but I remembered it was a red light camera and I looked toward it shaking my fist and said "Not today Lana Del Ray! Enjoy guantanamo!". But the music is alright.

The album was good and the last two songs were better, especially the Joni Mitchell cover. Her voice goes well with understated arrangements, but when the music opens up it gives it an extra dimension. I think she is probably great live. And I’m glad someone finally wrote a song about chemtrails!

Lana Del Rey was mostly unknown to me, so this was my introduction. She can sing when she chooses to — the barely audible squeaky delivery was not my favorite — and I really liked her harmonies and musical arrangements. The songs tended to dwell on the same parts longer than they needed to — I felt like she beat every good lyric into the ground. I spent the first half of the album waiting for it to kick into gear, until I realized this was the gear, an album of songs to sing while sleeping. OK, not super exciting. With a 2021 release date, for it to have made this list, I was expecting something a little more memorable. But I literally laughed out loud when the album ended. After penning an album chock full of album closers, to end on "For Free," decidedly the least-suited to the task, cracked me up. (That was probably my favorite tune — the melody was very reminiscent of Joni Mitchell.) Maybe that's Del Rey's sense of humor. I get the impression she lives her life faster than she sings her songs.

I've never been a fan of Lana Del Rey. Yes, she has a beautiful voice but I've always found her lyrics to be kinda cringey, and trying too hard to be aesthetic. Neverthless, this album was actually quite good, with an amazing instrumentation and vocal performance.

The album drags hard until you hit 'Let Me Love You Like a Woman'. This song hits the velvety regal character that I have come to expect from Lana. It loses momentum again on 'Wild at Heart'. She's a dead ringer for Joni Mitchell on "For Free" which is a neat trick and not easily done. I'm actually a huge fan, so it pains me to rate it this way. What happened here?

Shocked to see a relatively contemporary musician in my feed. I'd heard a lot about LDR, but never got a chance to listen to her. I wouldn't call this album extraordinary, but more like extra ordinary or perhaps extra normal. I suppose if I were to delve into the lyrics there might be something there, but after one listen this wasn't the album for me.

I give 2.5 stars. Rounding up because there were a couple of songs where the pleasantness of the three-part harmony outweighed the obnoxious raspy whispery BS earlier in the album.

sounds very nostalgic, almost dreamy, definitely more a depressing vibe but her lyrics are good

Lana is Lana, geen stemgeluid kan dat evenaren. Ik kende geen enkele liedjes van dit album, maar kon er wel van genieten. Al lijken veel songs op elkaar

Shimmery, sparse. Early on into the record, I came to the conclusion that this is music you listen to, wine-drunk, in the bathtub, while slipping under the water. It's depressing, but quietly so. I enjoyed it quite a bit more than I thought I would, but it's not anything I plan to revisit. Call it a 3.5. Favorite tracks: "Tulsa Jesus Freak", "Not All Who Wander Are Lost", "Dark But Just A Game"

Litt for kjedelig. Kanskje en dag vil eg like den

An enjoyable listen, but rather one-note in its tone, sound, themes, and production. Reminds me of the result if an artist listened to Tori Amos and decided to make an entire album based on the slow songs from "Boys for Pele".

I've got nothing against sad girl music and I like this album. But I don't really have that many occasions to listen to sad girl music. I'm not a sad girl. I'm not even a sad boy. I did listen to this album at the gym, so it probably didn't really get a fair shake, but I don't think I'd listen to this very carefully in other contexts as more than nice background music. Not a bad album though.

I did not really know what to make of this. It has some beautiful moments but was overall just a bit too dreary for me. I liked the country-influenced tracks at the end most of all. Not sure why this is here, I'd put different albums from 2021.

Noen melankolske fininger

A significant step down from Norman Fucking Rockwell. Best Track: White dress

Such a disappointment after NFR. All the songs are at the same tempo, and sound like overproduced mush. Unnecessary Joni Mitchell cover only highlights the difference in songwriting quality. Shame, barely scrapes a 3

I've only really heard Lana's top songs and I really like them! But though her voice is beautiful, I found this album to be a bit one dimensional.

This is generally not my style of music. I can hear jazz and a little bit of country influences. She has a talent for evoking a feeling, like a long distant memory, with words. I might give some of her other work a try. I would recommend this to a friend to give a listen.

Bah. Normalito.

Had heard it before and will probably listen again. Need to be in the right mood as it gets a bit monotone

Decent listen. Default Lana album I guess?

I was prepared to really dislike this album. My expectations were low given it only came out last year and Lana isn’t someone I’ve ever given much attention to. That changed with “Down at the Men in Music Business Conference” in White Dress, a line that’s an unexpected fit for the melody but works beautifully. The whispery vocals feel vulnerable and secretive. It pulled me straight in. The title song, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Yosemite and Dark But Just a Game are all highlights. Reminiscent of Warpaint. The problem with this album is it often feels like listening to one long 45 minute song. I found it more enjoyable listening in 2 halves with a long breather in between. 3/5

Unique sound. I purchased.

Lana makes good music, but man every song sounds the same to me. Not in a bad way. The first song was my least favorite on this one. Cool seeing such a new album on the list.

It's not terrible, but it's Lana Del Rey repeating her schtick. Her affectations are occasionally grating; for example, the breathy voice on 'White Dress'.

Downbeat as expected from Lana's music, but quite enjoyable. Surprised to find two very recent albums on consecutive days.

I had not heard of her or her music, and I like this album. Dreamy and ethereal at times, very well composed and performed, superb singing voice, and I would like to read the lyrics because the pieces I caught were interesting. I love the album name and cover art, too. Seems like an interesting artist so I'll look into her other work, too.

Folk. Suave y melódico, pero aburrido

1ère moitié solide, 2ème moitié osef Prefs: White Dress, Chemtrails over the Country Club, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Wild at Heart, Dark but Just a Game Moins pref: Breaking Up Slowly

Lana is one of the few talented modern artists (great songwriter & singer), but this album was too snoozy & cheesy for my liking. I like her work, but this album just wasn't for me.

3.8 - This is a very tastefully produced record, from the cover art and album title, to the spare and subtle sound engineering, to the subdued but effective vocals. I love the way Lana Del Rey evokes deep Americana with references to Louisiana two-step, small towns in Arkansas (pronounced like "Kansas") and church-y truisms like "not all who wander are lost." And I'm just a sucker for her weepy damsel-in-distress persona that she augments with her doe-like eyes and hushed delivery - she reminds me of Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. Mostly the songs are easily interpreted and float within a somber melancholy. My hunch is that most of this record's charms that seem so compelling on initial listen, will fade upon subsequent returns and that I'll probably find boring what I once found gorgeous.

Prve dvije pjesme su mi 5/5. Ovo ostalo je otislo u zaborav.

What a difference a day makes. This album feels like it succeeded where PJ Harvey failed. Songs about sham glamour and how unaware people are to the world around them. IT's a good mix of slow meaningful melody and poignant lyrics. 59/100gecs

Although I quite like a lot of Lana Del Rey's discography Chemtrails Over the Country Club feels too sparse. It feels like the album is picking back up into a what I was used to with Dark But Just A Game but it's back down after that. There are some great vocal bits on Not All Who Wander Are Lost but I don't really like the chorus. Breaking Up Slowly is another standout 63/100 gecs

Meh, didn't love it. I'm not a huge Lana Del Rey fan for starters. Definitely waaay too mellow of an album to start my morning.

silky voice helps me forget that her style isn't quite my taste

Has a serene sound that you can lose yourself in… also, if we’re doing albums from last year, does that mean that next year I’ll have more than 1001 albums to listen to?

An album name like this one makes me like it before I start listening to it. It's a nice piece if American folk sung incredibly well. Was this released after we started the 1001 voyage?

Ethereal and dark. Classic Lana with poetry and juxtaposition

Chyba są lepsze albumy, tutaj myślę sobie nowość, zobaczmy co tak zajebistego jest, że dostało się od ręki na listę. No nie powala, wszystko tak samo brzmi.

I used to think that all Lana del Rey songs in every record sounded exactly the same. That statement is still true to me. However, this particular album has surprised me, maybe because I was expecting more summertime sadness and born-to-die wishes and what I found was a more mature aura surrounding the compositions. I fell in love instantly with the magical whispers of “White Dress” and with the ballad “Let Me Love You Like A Woman”.

Very unique sound and captures the sad mood very well. Not exactly my cup of tea tho

Don't think I've listened to this one of hers before and it's not my favorite. Doesn't have an anchor hit to draw you in. The album starts real rough with some strained whisper singing bet gets better.

It’s not bad. It’s just not my jam.

Why is this on here? Alex jones thinks the chemtrails over the country club are turning the WASPs gay. I kinda like her whisper-singing thing in general, but this is maybe excessive.

It was interesting although repetitive.

A few bangers here and there, but overall a subpar album, everything kinda sounds the same, not much variation.

Beautiful voice, but the album is boring

This album started out as a 4 and then slipped to a 3. While I enjoyed a few of the songs thoroughly - White Dress, Let Me Love You Like a Woman, Dance Till We Die - the rest of the album was a drag. I have a love-hate relationship with LDR. I was one of the impressionable young girls in 2012 that fell in love with her and her music, only to end up feeling a bit robbed of my innocence due to her normalization of weird/disturbing/inappropriate relationship shit. It’s just music, I know, but tell that to a fifteen year old. Thought some of the stuff she promoted was not only acceptable, but kind of cool. Now as an adult I look back on it and cringe. I’ve avoided listening to her newer stuff because I cringe thinking about things from that time in my life. I can’t possibly be accountable so I’ll have to blame LDR. Just kidding, but listening to her I can’t help but feel like she’s always pandering and never authentic. I don’t know just me probably.

Smooth, beautiful, well crafted, but souless. I do like Lena Del Rey, I didn't really find enough in this album to keep me interested - I far prefer Born to Die or NFR. Also, I do think for an album this recent to be in this list it needs to be undisputedly special, which I don't think this is. Maybe time will tell and I'll like it more in 5 years time, but put it in then, once we've had time to prodcess it, not now.

I really like Lana Del Rey but... it was the Born to Die album that I first discovered her and I feel like that sound is more my kind of vibe: dark but bubble gum pop, if that makes any sense. I see that she's continued to deconstruct the American dream with this album but honestly, I wouldn't put this on a 1001 albums list - you'd want to have Born to Die for that. I feel it's a much stronger album all around.

Although I generally like the artists (especially earlier albumens) The first song really put me off.

Well that was quite a pleasant surprise. This isn't really the kind of thing I'd usually listen to, and will likely never listen again, but I enjoyed the journey. This is what this project is all about for me, finding things I'd never have heard otherwise, totally different to my usual preferences. This album is full of nice simple love songs, nothing over the top, nothing trying too hard. I don't really understand how an album three years old even gets onto the list, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

4 "Dark But Just A Game" has been a favorite of mine for a long time. But the whole album sure gets a little samey 3

A little too melancholy for me to vibe with overall, but I enjoyed her as an album artist way more than any of the singles I'd previously heard

I'm not exactly sure why this is on the essentials list, not because it's bad, but just because it came out so recently I don't know how it is had nearly enough time to be considered as such. That's really my only complaint though. 3.5/5

3, soothing

Not my favorite Lana album

She has a beautiful voice. I probably wouldn't listen to it regularly but I enjoyed the album overall. Easy to listen to.

Chemtrails over the Country Club by Lana Del Ray (2021) Here we have slow, superlatively feminine pop—reflective, comfortable, swimming in the past, and finding comfort in the present. Lana Del Ray successfully pulls off some very difficult vocal styles. She is able to whisper exceedingly airy tones with excellent pitch and articulation (“White Dress”) and to dub herself in octaves and widely spaced harmonies (“Chemtrails over the Country Club”) with fine choral blend (outros to “Let Me Love You Like a Woman” and “Wild at Heart”) and delicate precision throughout. Truly applaudable. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a better example of vocal recording on multiple tracks (yes, including Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”). Now on the last verse of “Dance Till We Die”, her attempt at power blues reveals her vocal limitations, but she doesn’t stay there for long, shifting back to her beautifully soft timbre for the closing chorus. The album is quite well produced, with subtle but warmly wrapped instrumentals and small scale orchestral backgrounds, mixed with a very close sound in the vocal recording. It is as though Lana Del Ray is sitting squarely in front of me, singing right down onto my forehead, so close I can feel her breath. My hair is softly blowing back with each phrase. This is definitely music for headphones. You won’t want ambient noise spoiling the experience. I’m sure this music is very difficult to perform live. There’s an embarrassingly annoying hum in the opening strains of “Dance Till We Die”. Some engineer didn’t get the memo: “We need silence in the background, dammit!” Del Ray’s lyrics are intelligent and well structured, and only occasionally bordering on the trite, but way too self absorbed—not good as art, but excellent as therapeutic role play for the feminine listener, which, I suppose, is the purpose. And the very wild lyrics of “Wild at Heart” are not well suited to the very tame music. The exception to these criticisms here is the closing track “For Free”, which, if you think it sounds like it was written by Joni Mitchell rather than Lana Del Ray, rest assured that it was. I’d recommend this record for my sister, as a pleasing alternative to the likes of an Adele or a Céline Dion, but not to take the place of a Joni Mitchell or a Judy Collins (or a Bonnie Raitt or a Loreena McKennitt or . . . well, you get the point). 3/5

I am surprised to see a 2021 album here, especially when I made for the first time my list of favourite albums of the year in 2021 and I didn't listen to this one. Well, I guess you cannot listen to them all.  I am not big on Lana Del Rey, but as soon as the piano and her whispered voice comes in I am already bought. I won't have time to listen to it more than once as I fell back in the challenge and have three other albums to catch up with, but my general impression is that this album totally reflects the black and white atmosphere of its cover art. All the songs sound intimate and kind of nostalgic. Actually, you know what? I am adding it to my Discogs wish list as I write. That's how much impressed I was with this album.

malo previše stressy-depressy za mene, zato je i ne slušan inače jer je to cili njen vibe, al budući da to nisu loše pisme nego ih ja jednostavno ne volin evo jedna 2

lana’s music makes me feel miserable. not terrible but not great

Haunting voice which I love but a whole album gets a bit samey and dull

pretty voice. Soft piano music.

Enjoyed it a lot more than I imagined. A bit samey toward the end though and I think may not age well - the breathy female singer of today

Good, very laid back. Won’t revisit but was a nice peaceful morning soundtrack.

3.2 - decent modern folk album with haunting feel. Good vocals. Enjoyed White Dress immensely. Solid album for background listening.

Onpas uusi levy listalla (2021). Ehkä levyn kohokohdiksi voisi nostaa kaksi ensimmäistä kappaletta ja Wild at Heartin kertosäkeen. 2,5 joka saa armoa tällä kertaa.

I dig it

I really liked this and picked up some mellower Father John Misty vibes.

Nobody sounds good for an entire album in head voice. Anyway, this music still has this crazy tendency to make me feel nostalgic even though the lyrics are of a life and a memory relatively foreign to mine. Spooky. Extra points for covering Joni, even though no one could ever outdo the original.

I was ready to give up on this one during the 1st song. Track #1 is horrible. But the rest were pretty okay.

I’ve heard Lana Del Ray is good at lyrics, but I’m not generally lyric focused listener. I’m not sure why she gets vaulted over Taylor Swift, who I also think is overrated, was it because she caused Taylor to pivot to more thoughtful Indy inflected pop? To me it sounds pretty standard. There were a few highlights. But nothing spectacular. I was excited when Weyes Blood showed up on the last song, but that only proved to me that it wasn’t top tier when I heard a great voice.

I recognize the name, but I have never heard any of her music before. I love her sound though and I will definitely listen to more of her. This is my first listen. Absolutely love it, but need to hear it more! 3/5 for now.

A quietly beautiful album. Sparse arrangements that showcase her fragile vocal delivery and subtle, distinctive phrasing. Reminds of Cat Power, but lacks the emotional depth and power in her voice. Finally, the pacing of the album is too slow without any variation thus lacking in drama and ultimate tension 3.5 🌟

5/10, meh.

Melody is nice, have a good time listening to it, but the harmony is boring.

A bit sleepy and lyric-laden, but stories told are detailed and imaginative

Inoffensive, but unmemorable. I do like the title, though. Fav new track: Chemtrails Over The Country Club

Not a great singer

Some nice, sparse songwriting.
