Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Obviously good at what she does; its just not for me!

Almost gave this a higher rating, but some of the lyrics are cheesy af…but maybe that’s part of her appeal?? Idk

No experimenta. Para descubrir tranquilamente. Me han parecido algunas canciones algo parecidas

Lana Del Rey certainly is an excellent singer but her music … No, no, no! It's simply not interesting except maybe for going to sleep

I really like some of her other albums such as Born to Die. This was just a bit dullm

Rather bland

Sorry Lana das wird nix mit uns.

Good voice, but the songs are all slow and boring from this album

How was this included on the list? Every song sounds the same, which would be fine if the sound was good. Her voice being the only thing saving this from a 1 star. Had to listen to TOOL to finish out my day.

This album was a bit drab for me…

Pleasant enough but very bland. Plus I is from the ghetto so this LA rich chick music is not my scene, man.

Normally I don’t mind a bit of Lana but this one is ass

I like a few songs by Lana. None are on this. The songs on this are all nice enough but it's very boring and they all seem similar and come from the same place. I'll give a 2

Not a bad album but just didn't find anything that special about it.

Vocals are not for me.

Cool album cover, okay album

Not for me. I can see the vision though I guess.

This album does to NLOGs and Art hoes what Kind of Blue does to jazz cats. I see the importance of something like this to a young person. But I'm far too crtical for this feign attempt at artistic, mysterious and haunting piano melodies against a boring retelling of sad events. That being said production is mint, vocals were not bad. Songs were a little lackluster but can't win em all.

Wasn't a big fan of this one, I was kinda just waiting for it to be over. Lana Del Rey has a nice voice however.

I like this album less after hearing it in full. I am not the target audience, I know. Much of it sounds sterile, repetitive and tired. I feel tired after listening to it, which I believe is tied to the vocal style. The one song where she does show off her true singing voice is poorly written and doesn't come until about halfway through the album.

I did not hate it.

I don't hate Lana but I didn't necessarily love this. It feels like it's meant to be very close and intimate but her vocals are crazy processed, just made it feel a little dissonant on first rip. Might enjoy more on future listens.

Notable Textzeile: Meet you for coffee at the elementary schools We laugh about nothing as the summer gets cool It's beautiful how this deep normality settles down over me I'm not bored or unhappy, I'm still so strange and wild Ich habe neulich schon von Mittelmaß gesprochen und es ist wirklich bemerkenswert wie etwas 100 Mio Streams haben kann und dabei so unauffällig.

Kinda bland

Mid chick album

I've never really liked Lana Del Rey. Sorry, I know that jeopardizes my basic white girl cred.

if you played me any one of these songs i think id really enjoy it. if you played two back to back id assume this was one really long song. there is very little variation between these songs and the slow tempo makes them feel like they drag on forever.

Great music for not me.

I can tell she’s got a great voice but doesn’t really use it, instead continuing to use a whispery, paper thin delivery which gets tiresome after half a dozen songs of it. Enjoyed the Joni track and its evocative music of a sepia toned time, but found it was a bit one-note after a while

I've only listened to Summertime Sadness, and never really got the Lana obsession that allows her to be somehow the ~32nd most streamed artist on Earth. And wow, what a fucking SNOOZEFEST. Piano ballad after piano ballad. Yeah, she can sing and the songs are very well written - but holy shit man, can I at least hear an instrument that isn't a piano? Maybe some drums? Anything? This is just straight sleepy bedtime music. 45 minutes going on 45 hours. I wanted to rate this at least a 3 but honestly I was so bored throughout the entirety of this thing I can't in good conscious give it anything higher than a 2.

She has a beautiful voice but her music is very slow.

Beautiful voice, and she's clearly going for an Emily Lou Harris vibe here. But, man, could she have made the song tempos any slower?! Waiting for anything interesting to happen in these songs is like waiting for honey to drip off a spoon. Agonizingly downbeat no matter how sweet it sounds.

i just don't like this genre

Just a bit too breathy for me in the vocals and a bit slow.

Born To Die was right there.

Kinda boring to be honest. Lana has one song that I really like and it isn't on here. Also, chemtrails aren't real. Everything's a conspiracy if you don't understand basic science.

Petyin. Parhaat: Wild At Heart

i’ve tried multiple times to get into lana del rey but i never seem to be able to. although some of these songs were sort of beautiful, they didn’t hold my interest at all

Difficult to do a rating for this one. I absolutely hated the first song and even needed to skip it half way through. Which has not happened yet. Other songs were kind of okay, even good. I just did not like the singer's voice. Especially how she sang, it was very breathy. Not for me.

There was music playing for the last 45 minutes? Huh. I remember nothing.

Indistinct mumbling with no form or substance, to be used exclusively as a sleeping aid

Pleasant enough but way too sleepy for my preference.

This would hit if I was a depressed teenage girl but I'm not

OK c 'était archi chiant

A popstar who dreams of being a tradwife on Quaaludes who dreams of being Bonnie in Bonnie and Clyde. I'd say it's much ado about nothing, but it's really not worth disturbing Shakespeare for.

Prefer Lana Del Rabies. Never really bothered with Del Rey based on the odd track I've heard but this isn't horrible and I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio. Just not something I'd expect to be on a list of albums to listen to before I die.

I’ve tried to get into Lana Del Rey in the past and I just don’t get it. Not that it’s bad, she’s clearly a good songwriter and singer, but listening to her music does absolutely nothing for me. There was like 20 seconds in the second half of Dance Till We Die where drums come in and I started thinking there could be something here, but they quickly disappear again and the song returns to the same boring, melancholic drone.

This isn’t a bad album. I know starting like that isn’t amazing, but I enjoyed relatively significant parts of it. It’s like all of her nostalgia, rockability, big hair, mournful music. My problem is despite the best efforts of one Lana and one Jack A, I just want to listen to Norman fucking Rockwell; an album which does the exactly same thing but better and stronger. Like I don’t know why I would ever listen to this over that, and that this came second is even weirder to me. Like you did it! Stop trying and do something else; not this again. It’s the gap year hanging around the high school; which would be a Lana nostalgia song.

Just could not get into the album. There’s too much one note sound throughout every song.

First track seemed incredibly long, then o realised I was on track 5. Very much a one trick pony. Wasn't terrible, but not for me.

Was looking forward to listening to a Lana album. I hoped for more than I got. All too one dimensional and slow. She has a great voice for sure, although she sometimes uses it a bit weirdly for my taste. Just sing! Left me uninspired.

New rule, if I'm adding a song to my playlist and feeling pretty whatever about how I decide then I think that means 2 stars

I listened to this whole album and didn’t realize I’d listened to a whole album. There is artistry here and she is clearly talented. But the whole think blended into 12 extremely similar sounding songs. I can only listen to mumble core over fanciful indie tracks so many times. Sorry Lana.

Not my genre

I cannot figure out how to rate this ... some of it was nice, all of it was the mush-mouthed over-reverbed pandemic-era apartmentcore that I just don't care for.

Felt monotonous and hard to distinguish tracks, not the Lana del Rey album I'd choose

This just wasn’t made for me

Just sad slop. Generic and inoffensive

Lana Del Rey is trying. I appreciate the effort, even as it sometimes tests my patience in a focused listen, but maybe she intends to resist such a mode? Let Me Love You Like a Woman and other tracks occasionally drift up from the generally gauzy feeling to elevate the album. Del Rey doesn't want you to know how hard she's trying as she mines fragility... she tries to embody a delicate sensation of soft, airy protection. She wants to be the veil between raw vulnerability and healing. I feel an intention in her music to envelop the listener, to wrap around us — and yet it often operates as hazy background instead. It's these contradictions that make the record greater than the sum of its parts while it also leaves me ambivalent.

É certamente o pior álbum da Lana e eu não consigo entender a presença dele nessa lista quando NFR, Born to Die, Ultraviolence e Lust for Life existem. 2/5.

Better than expected … but still fairly mediocre.

Feels really weird hearing Lana without any EDM backtrack being stuffed ten deep in a small, absolute mid bar that puts the tables up at night and tries to turn into a club. Really feels like this album got thrown in here purely based on name recognition. And I get it, it’s really hard to write history while it’s happening, but this one’s just a miss. Every song is just about the same piece of melodramatic copy pasta.

- Very croony and not to my taste at all

Have never really listened to her before. She is talented, but the vibe and mood of this album just didn't do it for me. Too slow and the near whispering of the vocal became tiresome after a while. 2.5/5 Won't listen again

Came after Paranoid, which as many write was the easiest 5. After the first song I thought that's clearly a 1, could not skip on the way so listen on. All i,n it's amateurish at best. But taken as a historical document on the COVID era it has is Existenzberechtigung

Bits of it are fine, I guess, but Video Games aside*, I never really got the hype. *obviously not on this record

Pretty boring. Her voice is sometimes OK, but there were pretty obvious uses of autotune used. Not my thing, but I can see why some would like this. 2.5/5

out of all of lana's albums, why THIS one? It's such a nothing album.

The constant mumbling seems completely uninterested and doesn't catch me in any way. I don't get its significance, but maybe it's just not for me.

can't hear completely due to is so boring

Might get some hate for this but she’s always been boring to me

boring

I've never been so bored. I'm not sure she has been either.

Lana feels like a chameleon artist. She sounds like a lot of other similar artists and she has talent, but I think I would rather listen to the original she is mimicking. Not a slam against her per se, but nothing she has made has ever hit with me. Admittedly I'm not into female pop stars that much either.

This was massive surprise for me I had a very different impression untill listened to this album

Boring music about a milieu that leaves me cold.

Not my style/tempo

I've heard worse. Not a fan of this one.

Got a little Swifty there for a bit.

One song - fine. A whole album? Not fine. I started to listen to this in the morning before work and I swiftly turned it off as it wasn't a very moral-boosted pre-work listen. I listened to it after work and feel low, depressed and beaten. One song - if I have to. A whole album? Never again.

This was pretty boring. I’ve enjoyed some LDR in the past, but none of that was here.

All sounds the same.

Not impressive…well, fine instrumentally I guess.

Not my type Muy low suspiros

This only makes sense to listen to if you’re depressed or if it’s a gloomy day and you want to mope. All of the songs sound about the same - slow, wailing, melancholic. It reminds me of Taylor Swift’s evermore album except the songs on this album are forgettable. (2)

I really dislike this genre of wistful, breathy, sighing 'singing'. It sounds so pathetic and downtrodden. I prefer female singers with at least a degree of strength in their voices. A shame, because this app seems to have relatively few female solo artists.

I may just still be traumatized by that initial SNL performance, but I really dislike this. Like Taylor Swift fell asleep and kept making music.

Too breathy and meandering for me

The songwriting is better than I expected but I am not at all keen on her delivery which appears overly aloof and bored at times - though it appears that she is intentionally putting this on because it is either expected of her or because it is her ‘thing’ rather than her preferred method of delivery. The songs got more tired by the end but that could just be because the dynamic range used was quite flat; there are only so many plodding, melancholy ballads that I could really stand in one sitting.

too much for an entire album

Damn this album really had like 10 seconds of exciting music.

I like Lana, this album has some good ones but not my fav. 2.5

Slow paced and boring

Incomprehensible why this album is so high. 2/5

Lana Dull Rey. Lovely voice. Boring music.

Some of the songs are somewhat interesting on their own. But holy liftin' what a slog it is to get through this thing as a whole. An absolutely dull, plodding experience.

MIksi ihmeessä tämä levy? varmaan tullut ulos juuri ennen kirjan julkaisua, eikä edes parhaiten arvioitu del Rayn levy. Lisäksi levynä hyvin yksipuolinen -- olisiko ollut liikaa pyydetty laittaa yksi menevä kappale? 2/5

While pleasant enough, Chemtrails Over the Country Club feels flat, offering little variation or emotional payoff.

as much as Lana Del Rey's shtick can wear on a person, normally she can string together a pretty good experience lyrically and musically. this doesn't quite hit the mark, and kinda reeks of that pandemic-era consistently annoyed mood. could stand to sound a bit less nondescript too. deserves to be one of the 1001? i think Lana deserves at least one album on here, i would probably do two, but this being the choice is bizarre. i can only chalk it up to recency bias because there's no way this has the impact or acclaim that Born to Die, Ultraviolence, or Norman Fucking Rockwell! do. tldr: no.

I was swearing that I will not be listening to any other Lana del Rey album after she let me down after NFR, and here we are, accapting the challenge. I only liked Yosemite and I even saved it to my library, which is shocking to me. But I stand my ground, this album is shit compared to her previous works. Boring, slow, without any significant melodies or sounds.

Didnt really care for it- some nice songs with a lot of songs thay droned on and sounded similar. Im just not a hufe fan of Lana's style. Overall 2.5/5- not quite a 3

Not for me

Wanted to like to but just was a little boring

Disappointing followup to Norman Fucking Rockwell, which is her best work by a lot. This album meandered and bored me. I don't particularly like her breathy way of singing, it works sometimes but really overdone here. Let Me Love You Like a Woman is really good, and Dance Till We Die is great. For Free is also pretty good.

There's four or five different Lana Del Rey albums that I could name off the top of my head, even as someone who's totally unfamiliar with her work. This is not one of them, and I don't think I've even heard any fans of her mentioning its name before! I guess I just don't understand why this one's here and not Born to Die or Ultraviolence, which I associate with the indie-er girls I went to high school with, and which I think were fairly important in the direction 2010s music took? Anyway, this is fine but kind of boring. It's got me feeling like I need to check out Born to Die and Ultraviolence, so it's not a total loss of a day, I guess?

sybau <3

Some good songs but overall a bit repetetive and boring

Put me to sleep.

Still not my style. This is better than other artists of a similar style, but it's just not for me.

I feel like I try to like Lana more than I actually do.

Some interesting moments floating in undeserved pretentiousness.

The high, wispy singing in White Dress is some of the worst sounds I've heard on this journey so far. The rest of the album was inoffensive enough to pull out two stars, but no songs on here I'll listen to again.

I could see how people my age like her music, but it's just not for me.

This breathy whisper singing is not my thing. Extremely tedious to get through. The compositions and melodies are nice but the bedroom production style of modern pop doesn’t do it for me.

beetje traag he Lana

- Tja.

4/10 Exhausting

Lyrics are interesting, but most of her songs sound the same. Not for me.

She always comes across like she has no respect for her fans and this album wasn't that interesting.

never understood the love for lana del rey and her boring music

Lyrically sound but musically underwhelming like most ldr albums.

Boring, but otherwise mostly not bad.

I have never heard this album before today. My girlfriend is a fan and owns several of her albums but this is not one of them. It's pretty standard Lana Del Rey music. No big hits that blew me away but plenty of good songs with here signature style. It's probably not something that I would listen to all the time but I enjoyed it this time around.

Boring.

Not a bad album by any means, just a total snooze fest. Production can't be faulted though

Generally hadn't listened to much of her work and assumed I wouldn't like it, but was pleasantly surprised.

Hard to put my finger on why, but this one doesn’t grab me. I was pretty bored throughout.

ever heard of versatility

Wispy, soft and soporific.

Do not vibe with the sad cali girl music

Recent album from an artist I have heard of. But idk, Lana Del Rey isn’t for me.

booooring

I didn’t get far. Not a fan of whisper singing.

Track 1: The line "Down at the Men In Music Business Conference" sounds like something out of a Flight of The Conchords song. I appreciate the sentiment of wishing for simpler times. Nice atmosphere. Her vocals carry the dynamics, and the instrumentation is just bedding. Makes sense given the genre, but I wish she or the instruments let rip a bit more for that final chorus. Track 2: Musically, a better attempt at what track 1 did. Better peak. Lyrically, prefer track 1. Had to confirm what this song was about and still didn't resonate much. There's probably more of a story there, but it was a bit impenetrable to me. Seemed more focused on turns of phrase. Fair enough. That drum outro wasn't interesting and served no dramatic purpose. Let the song just end. Track 3: Appreciate a bit of a tempo change. Lyrically, most interested in this one so far. Musically, solid but not super noteworthy. To the point. Get in, get out. Track 4: A simple song. Probably the simplest so far, both lyrically and musically. It's crystal clear. My favorite so far. The only one I've added to a playlist. And not just any playlist, a dear playlist. I've lived in LA. This brought me back there. I could feel that drive to escape it. To adventure away from it with the one I love. I felt the Pacific Ocean's massive presence beside me. Track 5: Good song. Again, solid. Not super noteworthy, but that's fine. Mostly, I need to go rewatch Wild At Heart now. Digging the vibe of the album, but definitely need to be in a particular mood. Track 6: Mixing it up a bit. And not only that, mixing the song itself up a bit. Nice. Almost like a prog pop song. Track 7: Maybe a better song in isolation. As the seventh track, quite underwhelming. And I'm a sucker for songs about the road and wanderlust. But the themes, vibe, and sound pallette feel like we've already explored them. The only new idea is the random production dialogue snippets. And they don't sound interesting or uplift the song in any way. Track 8: The other track to go into that dear playlist. Smoldering. Just like the campfire atmosphere. Mariee Sioux-like. Again, transports me to the forests of California. I have been to Yosemite. Been on top of Half Dome. Marveled at the Sequoias. Deer in Tuolumne. Braved the canyon traffic. But this really brought me back to those campfire reposes after a day of adventure. Being together and basking. Track 9: Not feeling this one. In a world of break-up songs, this one feels mundane. Nothing really interesting here, melody, lyrics, instrumentation, all kind of whatever. Especially coming off that last track. And unlike Track 7, I think I would feel the same were I to hear it in isolation away from the album. Least favorite. Track 10: Nope. This is my least favorite. Track 9 was boring. This one I find boring and tone deaf. What is it even about? She hangs out with her heroes. But again, fame is hard everybody. But I'll keep struggling on....while name-dropping Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Stevie Nicks, and Courtney Love. I even read she played this for Joan Baez at a dinner with her. A bit of the Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee thing here. Rich people complaining, and really about their privilege. Normally, I'm more tolerant than most. I understand that's now their perspective and they can't help it. That's the lens they have. But what is the conflict here? This song seems pointless. It might fit the album's theme and what Lana is struggling with, but the delivery doesn't land. Plus, the song isn't interesting musically. The new idea it brings with that bridge section just sounded like a flat Fiona. More Yosemites, please. Track 11: Best lyrics on the album. Well, they are Joni's and she is hard to top. Good cover. Would rather listen to Joni's. A perfect way to express exactly what I felt the last song failed at expressing. There is a way to tell a story, and express and receive sympathy when your hardships come from being in an envious position. That's your life now. Joni shows how her life has changed, but maybe she hasn't. Still sees things the same as she would before. A perfect thematic bowtie. However it may have upstaged Lana's own efforts to express the same theme. It's like closing a landscape photographer's exhibit with a picture he took of an Ansel Adams. Closing: Where Lana shines for me is in exploring place and relationship dynamics. I think she does well in a dialogue with herself explaining her relationship. In isolation of explaining herself, mixed results. Overall, I like the atmosphere of the album, but musically wasn't super impressed. More tone poem, which is fine. I like the tone. When she lands the theme of the song and the vibe, the song hits. She is the best instrument on the album. Beyond that, I remember some piano bits, but they are just doing a melody her voice will do anyway. 2 standout tracks. 1 great cover, but I credit Joni. 5 decent tracks of varying success. 1 meh. And 2 duds. Replayability feels non-existent for me except for the 2 standouts. I appreciate it. Glad I listened. Will listen to more Lana. She is now on my radar. There's enough here for me to see that she has something, but might work better for me with a different producer. But for my first Lana, this was probably a 2 out of 5. 2 is decent/good. As many problems as successes, canceling a a fair bit out, leaving behind a lot of mixed successes. Also not in a go-to genre for me, so take that into account.

This is #day428 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… if this book is about albums you must hear before you die, then this one clearly isn't. I do have a sentiment toward another of her records, Ultraviolence, since it contains a song that soundtracked me and my then-future wife's relationship, but that's about it. So, not giving it a 1, I'll award an extra star for that sentiment. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day429.

Boring.

The lyrics were interesting and she's a good story teller but the music was boring. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 1/5

Not a fan.

The only song of hers I know is "Video Games" which I really love despite its flaws. Sadly, it wasn't on this mediocre album.

This is ok. I like two or three of her albums to include "Born to Die" much more. This isn't bad but its nothing special.

Fraco!

I just can’t quite get into Lana’s music. She’s like the blandest parts of stuff like Lorde or Taylor Swift (that may be decisive, idk). Her voice is great but I just found the album so boring and uninteresting.

Overrated

The way she sang the line “down at the Men In Music Business Conference” immediately made me think of Jermaine Clement singing “Team Building Exercise ‘99”. Couldn’t take it seriously from that point onwards (about 30 seconds into the opening track)

Got marginally better as it went on but was still a very long 45 minutes

Pleasant enough in the right context I suppose, but very samey, and the gym was not the right context.

Goes on a bit. Seems like she needs a drink

Pretty dull. I forgot I was listening to it at one point

I do like Lana Del Ray and I think the opening two tracks are great - she can write a really great chorus. But then the album sort of peters out and gets a bit meh.

I get it, but I'm not into it.

Lana drones on about a trauma she imagines is universal, but mostly revolves around pools and sun and backyards. Sorry your ice cream melted. There’s one song near the end that features a beat and a pitch change, but it doesn’t last. The album ends with a cover of “For Free” that’s more plastic than a Chuck E. Cheese ball pit and requires the help of two others. Keep Joni’s name out your mouth, Lana.

Echoes of Gillian Welch

I was a little bit disappointed by this. I would have just preferred listening to Summertime Sadness on repeat instead

not what i expected at all

Pretty, but damn near unlistenable. Feel like I’d have to be depressed, on heroin, and numb in a unique way to enjoy this

You could make the case for pretty much any other Lana album to be included - the universally loved Norman Fucking Rockwell was right there! - but Chemtrails Over the Country Club is probably the worst choice. Apart from Wild at Heart none of the songs are particularly good or even memorable, it's some of the weakest writing and I feel like even the biggest Lana defenders don't care for it. Yet another baffling entry in this project.

Apple Music gives 1-5 “Essential Albums” when you get an artist search result. Lana had two Essentials, neither of which was this one. It doesn’t happen often that the 1,001 album isn’t an Essential and sometimes that ends up being cool — an overlooked gem. This isn’t one of those. Lame songs, pretentious lyrics, they sounded to me like more recent Taylor Swift eras throwaways. I listened to another of her albums awhile back and it was much better than this.

Some nice melodies and moments, but tooooo samey for my taste :(

I'm generally not really into rap, but this is some great stuff.

lana del not slay

Was going to go 3 stars because, though not my taste, I can respect the art. But the longer I listened, the less I admired it. Only exception is the duet because it at least added some variety of sound.

Beige music. Absolutely terrible

Wow she has some pipes. Each song was challenging, I was either inspired by the sparseness of the production, then the over production, then a line would catch me by surprise. I see why this so talked about. Unfortunately not for me.

Haunting vocals and great instrumentals but mostly boring lyricism and not a catchy hook in earshot

I didn't really care for the whispery breathy style of singing, and wondered if I was going to get through the album during the 1st song. None of the songs really captured my attention.

She’s got a beautiful voice, no doubt about that... But absolutely nothing else happens in this album. I could barely finish. It’s the kind of bland, inoffensive music that coffee shop chains play in the background while hip customers pretend to work on their laptop. I listened at home, and by the end of the album I tried to order coffee from my wife. She was not pleased. Thanks, Lana. I'm still rating it a 2* for her voice. Now someone please give the lady some real music to sing to...

Boxer is my favorite my far, but this is

I wasn't really into this. There were maybe a few moments where a song caught my ear, but overall it's a style that I just didn't care for. It's interesting that it's considered a folk/Americana album. Lyrically I think that makes a kind of sense, but it mostly just sounded like a pop album to me, though maybe a bit more on the gloomier side. Many songs struck me very much as "I can hear this as background music for a contemporary dance piece on So You Think You Can Dance." 2.4/5

Ever if she lives on a airboat in the swamps now, for whatever reason, I just can't get down with Lana

Not for me. Didn’t know what to expect. I thought she was a younger pop star.

The album meanders and lacks any vibe. Some individual songs are ok and as an album doesn't command attention.

A lot of the songs feel pretty repetitive resulting in a somewhat bland album. Not sure if it merits inclusion in this list. Croony/moody vibes

Boring, bland, repetitive and over-produced. Nothing new or interesting. The breathy vocal is annoying. How does this qualify as an album you must hear before you die? 1.5/5. Raising to 2.

Lana Del Rey’s music has never really been my cup of tea. I could never get into the soft breathy style. Just for her influence on pop music Lana definitely deserves a spot on the list. Without her we would have no Billie Eilish. I’m just not sure this is the album of hers to include. I do, however, really like the song Wild At Heart.

Fine, I guess

She has done much better than this

Horrible its the same song same tone, same depressing melancholic lyrics. Adel sucks and its still better. She does have a different voice but its so similar all that you cant really enjoy her distinctive sound.

Ugh. So boring.

I had never heard any songs by her before, is this what modern pop is now? It was fine, I just didn't really like it... It's like she's trying to be Dido or something without the range.

Her voice is so quiet it's like I can't hear it.

Ok so I’ve tried hard over the years to figure this artist out. Normal Rockwell and Blue Banisters were more or less on repeat for a month a few years ago. There are a few songs I like - Arcadia for example. But I just don’t get it. Did she really just say “I listened to white stripes when they were hot” and call out Kings of Leon? At least message how cute and cool you are with subtlety. It’s all too boring, too cliched, too pretentious...she’s simply trying so hard it’s offensive. 2/5

This wasn’t too bad but some songs are so boring and I’m not a big fan of her vocals. They’re way too breathy and sound so uninteresting.

Didn't really vibe with this one. I don't think the echo effect adds that much to the mix.

Ok album, but far from LDR best? Why is it in 1001 greatest albums?

At least we’ll always have “Born To Die”.

Would have been a very middle of the road album if it were released in the 70s. I'm not sure what sets Lana Del Rey apart from every other pop singer pining for the good ole days. I like how weirdly screechy the "DownAtTheMenInMusicBusinessConference" line is though.

LDR has a lovely voice, but the music just bums me out.

It was ok.

Not for me

I now understand Lana’s appeal and know that it’s not for me. Best song was “For Free”.

If I was a 14 y/o girl and wanted to kill myself this would be awesome

i don’t like llama del ray

Oh good, more whispery waifish white woman, exactly what we needed more of. She's clearly got an idea of what she wants to do, and how to hit it, but it does absolutely nothing for me. Not something I would ever choose to listen to on my own, and now I have I don't want to again.

This was all very breathy and boring.

This was a very forgettable album. Very "meh" and left little impression on me other than wondering what other more interesting album might have been left off to make room for this one.

She's got a good voice, but I feel like a lot of her music blends together. It's very morose and wispy, and the songs don't really stand out from one another. I did like the guitar in Yosemite, and I like the vocals in small amounts, but overall it gets a bit boring

I was so excited to get my first album from the 2020's, but then it was just boring. I really like some of Lana's big hits but this album didn't have any song that really captured me. I think it was too vocal-focused and just not as pretty as some of her other albums.

Average. Like a chill Florence & The Machine

Highlight: Let Me Love You Like A Woman In a nutshell: dreamy Americana. I'm more familiar with Born To Die, which is more dream pop/trip hop Lana. She maintains the dreamy disillusioned lyrics, but when Lana sings she sounds a bit more like Taylor Swift than herself (specifically on White Dress, Dark But Just A Game and the title track). That sing-whisper instead of the throaty and sultry serenade. The world building game is still strong though. This isn't the best representation of Lana. I recommend listening to Born to Die first then Norman Fucking Rockwell! Overall: 4/10

Chemtrails Over the Country Club feels more like a delicate sigh than a full statement. The mood is dreamy and hushed throughout, with Lana leaning heavily into her ethereal Americana aesthetic—but the songs mostly blur together in a mist of whispered vocals, gauzy piano, and barely-there melodies. There are glimmers of beauty in tracks like White Dress and Tulsa Jesus Freak, but too often the album drifts without really landing anywhere. It’s not that it’s poorly made—if anything, it’s too carefully crafted, to the point of being emotionally distant. The lack of variation in tone or tempo makes it feel like one long, melancholy lullaby, and the poetic imagery sometimes crosses the line into self-parody. There’s atmosphere in abundance, but not much else to hold on to.

Influenced who? Her manager? Her mother? For crying out loud, the album has barely even reached pre-school age yet, let alone talking about it influencing anyone of note.

breathy thin voice, especially in upper register; harmony is mostly octave unison, and there isn't a lot of movement on her melodies; quiet contemplative brooding music

A bit too chill and boring for my tastes but it was relaxing at least. There wasn't a whole lot of variety between tracks either.

Boring and all sounded the same.

Sruprisingly not that bad, just not very memorable. I guess the songwriting is the key here and the texts are quite good.

A pleasant surprise. I only knew one pop track (Summertime sadness) by Lana Del Rey, and here comes this slow, melancholic alternative pop album with hints of Lorde or even Agnès Obel, and it’s actually going down pretty well, … but now I want to return to something more energetic.

boring

It certainly has the popularity, the number of listens is large, especially for the title track. But I don't get how this is a must-listen album, was bored to death 3 songs in. If you enjoy this vibe, try Sarah McLachlan's "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy", there's more of a payoff.

Fav tracks: Chemtrails Over the Country Club Dark But Just A Game White Dress _____ never heard this fully so this is nice to do. White Dress: she squeak. good start i like it. Chemtrails Over The Country Club: love. Tulsa Jesus Freak: the production is a choice. idk how i feel. Let Me Love You Like A Woman: i like this but wtf does it sound like? another lana song but idk what... Wild at Heart: Eh its okay. Dark But Just A Game: love thiis. every part of it reminds me of something else though. but it's cool i like it. Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost: god the chorus lyrics are straight out of tumblr. Yosemite: someone you loved lewis capaldi + Breaking Up Slowly: don't mind this it's okay. Dance Till We Die: meh. For Free: mmmmeeehhh.

I realise that monotone sad girl crooning is Lana’s thing but a whole album of it is just bland

Competently made, but generic, clean and bland. Struggled to get through the entire album. Boring.

I don't think I've listened to this one before, but have no strong feelings about LDR either way. I'm surprised this one was included over NFR though - maybe a bit of recency bias at work here? There are some good songs on here particularly around the middle of the album. But I find the vocals just ok for the most part and the lyrics don't really interest me. Some some of the songs sound quite similar as well, but maybe it's one I'd get into more over time.

A singer I didn't know. I tried to listen to the whole album but I found her voice annoying after a while. Too whiny and sluggish songs. Poor album.

Good singer, unique voice. Some good songs.

The entire album is just a light airy voice slowly singing over a soft beat. Hard to even tell where one song ends and another song begins. Pretty much the definition of background music. Dark But Just A Game has a nice part in the middle, as does Dance Till We Die. Best song: Dance Till We Die

Not sure this album deserves to be on the list, especially as it was released a couple of years ago. The album is somewhat monotonous, all of the songs sound similar since they hardly feature any melodies, chord progressions or rhythm. The whole album feels like the same simple ballad. The vocals themselves also aren't that impressive to me, since they are heavily produced and feature several effects. Having said this, the album is not terrible, some songs are fun to listen to and feature more music than the others.

Yeah, I like Taylor and Billie and Olivia and them just fine, but I don’t like the high pitched breathy thing… and that’s all Lana does. Also, way too soon to be on this list. Come back when you’re older, sweetie.

I always think I like Lana's songs when they first come on, but infallibly feel irritated by the breathiness by the end of the track. She's a good songwriter but I don't enjoy the general vibe.

Tedium

If clinical depression was an album, then this is it. Why is this woman always moping about? I was surprised that 1 - she made this list, and 2 - that it was this album. I don't like Lana but even I've heard of NFR and Born To Die. I'd never heard of this one Unfortunately Lana is not for me, unless she stops mumbling and perks up a bit. This was so boring and monotonous. I only enjoyed 1 song, and 'enjoyed' is pushing it She should write songs about her life in the swamp, married to the alligator man. At least then it would be more interesting than whatever this was 2 ⭐️

Did not capture my attention. Pleasant, but dull and drony. I'm not a fan of the "very quiet lady" genre of music.

Nice voice, but not a fan of whimpering.

I feel like I should like Lana Del Rey more than I do. Just a bit dull really

This was extremely boring. Is this music for people who think saying damn is extremely daring? Is this why Gen Z is the least interesting generation?

meh, not really my thing, kinda boring

I just don't understand Lana. I tried it twice but it's so... sterile? boring?

Bland & a bit meh

Sadly, not for me. I think the pieces of a good album are here, but my god it’s tedious. In isolation, perhaps, I would like the odd Lana Del Rey song. But a full album is a slog.

A bit of a snooze fest, innit? Now, I love a good pop album but this just ain’t it.

Did not enjoy it at all!

On first listen, BORING. Will give it another pass.

There is obviously a large contingent of the population that enjoys Lana Del Rey. I can't see how this can be in anyone's regular rotation unless they were constantly living in a sea of disappointment and pain. This would only be useful music if I was in a depressive state and wanted to force myself to stay there. Having no expectations going in, I just wasn't impressed. Her voice seems average and she doesn't really have to stretch it since the pace and range of the music is so minimalist. She just puts off an air of indifference and boredom, making it seem as if she really doesn't want to be singing. I was hoping I would hear at least one upbeat song at some point but its just track after track of dejection and melancholia. The album is tiring to listen to and has nearly shut the door on me ever listening to her voluntarily again.

This is an alright background listen, but very depressing as your main listen. The album was decent, nothing too exciting, Lana was overall clearly very upset when writing this, and it's a bit meh.

67% Best: Dark But Just A Game; Breaking Up Slowly Must-Hear? Nah. Boring af. Some solid ideas, though

bit slow. not for me.

Ouch, I love Born to Die and this isn't even like half as good as that. If that's on here, expect a 5, but for now Lana has to take a rough rating.

Way too laid back for my taste. Did not listen to it all.

It's hard to get excited by this. It's not bad, it's artful but so damn boring

Sounds flat

Chemtrails over the County Club is alright but dear god woman, mix it up. There's only so much dreamy mumbling over the same slow melody that I can take before I need something else, it's like being a vegetarian ffs. Her voice is lovely but boring very quickly, it's music very much not for me but it's just fine as an objective exercise, slap bang 2 or 3.

Meh. Boring. And I don't like her voice. At least there's musicality in it, though.

man, fuck lana oh wait, she has alligator guy to do that now

Only ballads at the country club. Meh. Fun decidedly lacking. Album cover very much misleading.

Lana Del Rey makes boring ass DEPRESSING music.

If you are going to listen to a Lana album, listen to Born to Die and Ultraviolence. I've always found her later albums dull and lacking edge and this is a prime example.

that was so boring omg

Im very sad and tired after that. Why is that a great album? Nice voice though.

Really not very interesting I’m afraid All very breathless and warbling. Just not my cup of tea and I’m pretty convinced this belongs nowhere near this list. I didn’t actively hate it, so a 2, but only just.

Didn't love this one

Songwriting good, music variety poor. Too one paced for my personal taste.

Give it another listen in the future. It might just need to marinate.

Pimppiin puhaltelua lähes koko levyn läpi. Kuuntelihan tuota, mut ei toista kertaa, kiitos

this one is for the ladies. omg when the piano chords.. holyyyyyyyyy ja kun väärennös produktio rumpu teke bum.. bumtsika bum..... kiitos lanaaaaaa omg kitos.. saved my life... pelastit henkeni laanaa...... et ehkä koskaan lue tätä, jos et koskaan näe ei haittaa, varmaan kukaan ei lue tätä koskaan varmaan... mutta lana haluan yhden asian sanoa sulle: pystyn yhtymään tän musiikin kanssa niin hyvin omg... yhtäkkiä alkoi värisemääm hartiat, avanto kutsuuu huohhoijjakkaa... im dark maga rn... albumi parantuu loppua kohden. ensimmäinen puolisko sietämätöntä kidutusta. yosemite

Is Not All Who Wander are Lost ironic? I continue to think Lana is just alright. The songs I like I really like. The others I find really boring. dance till we die and let me love you good.

Not my favorite from LDR but still a decent album. Fav Track: Dark But Just A Game

Another album I've heard before! It's kinda dull, even for Lana Del Rey, who rarely ventures beyond her comfort zone. She does give a halfhearted effort a couple of times, but it doesn't go anywhere. And that's ignoring the general annoying rich girl vibes that permeate her music. I don't hat it, but I'm not far away.

Dullllll

This would work better as spoken word poetry. The lyrics are shoehorned into song structures that don't quite fit. It passed me by over a couple of hot mugs of tea. Nothing more, nothing less.

Her voice is pleasant enough. But every song just sounds the same. 2/5

Very one note, one trick. I was never hugely fond of that particular trick anyway, but I feel like I could maybe have given Born To Die a positive score, but not this. Got dull real fast and stayed there.

Y'know, I don't believe this album should be here. And it's actually not because of what I think about its musical content—I'll get there in a moment—but more its recency. Which, yes, I know, I'm not the first one to bring it up in the reviews on this website. I'm sure one of the top five rated reviews brings it up, or more; I don't feel like checking right now. Regardless, I stand pretty firm in my idea that albums under five years old should be disqualified from lists like this. Simply put, we've had no chance to see if they stand the test of time. Like, in thirty years, we could be looking back on this album as a complete wreck, if we even remember it at all. Of course, all the same, we could be praising it as the modern SGT. PEPPER'S or PET SOUNDS, but, goodness, give it a chance to stew for a second first. This album was only six months old when it got added to the book—in human terms, it probably couldn't even crawl yet. And as I write this, it's currently three-and-a-half years old—still probably shaking on its legs a little. Now, here's the thing: I'd maybe be willing to forgive all of that. I don't normally like talking about what should or shouldn't be in this book, 'cuz more often than not it's irrelevant to my reviews. I'm not here to talk about something's inclusion; I'm here to talk about the music. So, if you catch me bringing it up... Woof. Yeah, I'm sorry to the people in my group who were excited to hear this album; this thing's boring as shit. Like, I always had this assumption in mind that I wouldn't like Lana Del Ray, and finally actually hearing her for myself, yeah, I was right. I mean, maybe her other albums are better, but as an introduction, I don't think the randomizer could've picked a worse one. It sounds like so many other random pop songs I've stumbled across, with its cooing, baby vocals that I don't think she can really pull off, and all these atmospheric "vibes" instrumentals that nearly put me to sleep. And after, like, the first two tracks they all sounded the same to me. I only remember "White Dress" 'cuz of this bad vocal inflection she does, and because she tries to fit way too many words into one of the lines, and the title track... Well, I'm already forgetting it as I write this, so... Like, she really wants to call this shit "wild at heart?" This is as wild as room temperature milk. And it's not like I dislike modern music, either. That's an assumption I feel like I'd have, but there's a fair number of new albums, of new material, that aren't even five years old that I can safely say I love. Coheed And Cambria's VAXIS II, BABYMETAL's THE OTHER ONE, Gorillaz' CRACKER ISLAND... Hell, The Weeknd's DAWN FM, to bring up an artist who's popular in the mainstream. It's just that this sound is **extremely** not for me. People who're into this artsier sort of stuff... Sure. All this "art deco chamber pop nostalgia vibes" stuff. And I'm not even against vibes, but... Blurgh. I wanna give this thing a 2 just because I feel like a 1's too harsh. Like, that's the rating I reserve for shit like Kid Rock, or for convicted child rapists who make boring rhumba music for cruise line ads. Hell, I probably shouldn't have even given Limp Bizkit or MAXINQUAYE a 1. Like, this album's worst crime, speaking about its music, is that it bores me pretty badly. I'm sure if I knew more about Lana Del Ray's politics I could see how it influences my view of her art and **maybe** justify lowering the score, but honestly, I'd rather not. Like, honestly, the worst thing I can say about it is just what I started this review with: I don't think this album should be here. And as much as I'd like to say it's more for reasons of recency than for subjective reasons of "quality"—being 100, there's a good chance it's not.

💖 wild at heart 🗣️ 4️⃣

i like the last song

She has some decent songs. Not on this album though.

She's really talented and this is kinda nice background music - but it's pretty boring and minimalist - not a ton going on. Weyes Blood is great though.

So incredibly boring. If you aren't paying attention, it sounds like one long song until you hit dance til we die. Overproduced, whispery mumbles.

Maybe a 2.5. None of the songs are as interesting or magnetic as earlier projects from Lana.

Questionable to include this but hey there's

Idk. I like some LDR songs but this album highlights everything I don't like about her music

Lana Del Ray has a stunning voice and air to her performance but I'm not sure if this is the one I'd pick out of all albums to be on a list of 1,001. There's some interesting instrumental moments but this feels like an album for people who are already fans.

It's alright, not really my style. First song was good Will I listen to again: 1%

Not it.

Didn't hate it, kind of moody and croony and backgroundy. Cheryl Crow sleepwalking...

1/11, 9%

Another knew the name but none of the music…and not even 1/3 through the first song & I wish that were still true. I would think I would’ve liked this but…a bit too ethereal for my tastes.

It was okay wouldn't listen again

This kind of music really isn't my vibe. It's really indicative of what I don't like about late-2010s-20s music. It's far from the worst thing I've heard on this list, but also not sure it needs to be on here. "Wild At Heart" and "Dark But Just A Game" were somewhat enjoyable, but overall this is not for me.

Not my thing.

Fannst þetta hugljúft fyrstu tvö lögin. Síðan leiddist mér. Síðan var ég orðinn leiður á þessu. Síðan var ég nálægt að slökkva. 11 muldrandi lög eru of mikið í einni atrennu.
