Good album. Really chill vibes, I'd buy this on vinyl to play in the background. 3/5.

Enjoyment: 7 Replayability: 6 Cohesion: 4 Flow/Pacing: 5 Artistic Merit: 8 Weighted Average: 6.25 Summary: Late-60s bops mixed with moving soul classics Favorite Song: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman Least Favorite Song: People Get Ready Recommend? Yes

Pleasant, amazing voice, but doesn’t have Respect or Say A Little Prayer so obviously needs to be a 3

Very beautiful, maybe a little dated sounding but still quite nice 3.5

Chain of Fools is the stand out track here, but there were some others I really liked too such as Groovin' and (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone.

There's no doubt about the qualities here, but I'm just not a fan. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ❌️ ★★★☆☆(5/10) Total reviewed : 356 Already owned : 79 Purchased : 16 To buy : 4 Nope : 257

Ouais bon why not

I mean, it’s good. It’s not my cup of tea. It’s not a stand out album It’s not pure banger after banger, in whatever genre she belongs in. Choice cut: since you’ve been gone

Good, and obviously one of the best singers of all time. But not something I would choose to listen to on any frequent basis.

Personally, this one just didn't stick out, it had a few good songs here in their. I listen to lots of soul too, I just didn't enjoy this one as much, most of the songs just felt hollow. Overall, a 5/10 album, I did really enjoy Since You've Been Gone, but I did only like half of the album, the other half just lacked emotion in my opinion.

Very solid effort from Aretha here, and I adore her version of You Make Me Feel. I just wish there was a little more variety.

Chain of Fools - Very nice syncopation - the main vocul, the chorus, the bass, the guitar and the drums all havetheir own rhythm that meshes nicely together. Isn't the "Chain-chain-chain" but in this reminiscent of A Change Would Do You Good? Money Won't Change You - Not much to say here; I like the thumping bass and horns, but the rest doesn't do much for me - I'd kind of like to see what Fatboy Slim would do with the the horn part. People Get Ready - A bit dreamlike. Niki Hoeky - I was familar with the Bobby Gentry version (my parents listened to a lot of country music when I was growing up) - i think I prefer this version, mainly because the intro to the Bobby Gentry version always tricked me into thinking I was listening to Ode to Billie Joe (an absolute classic song) (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman - everything about this is just perfect, you can pick out any element of the arrangement and listen to it and it's just great (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone - Another middling song saved by bass and horns. Good to Me as I am to You - There are plenty love songs, this is a hate song. Just leave him, you can find someone better. Come Back Baby - Look, I've told you, you're better off without him, enjoy your freedom, don't beg him to come back, I beg you. Groovin' - nice and laidback. Ain't No Way - I like this, it kind of reminds me of Paul Williams stuff (there's a very specific F9>Fm7 chord change he uses it a lot, which is present here).

This was good.

Gooood

All in all a good album, just not really my taste in genre.

Lady Soul is decent, but I've never been super into Aretha's music at all. I didn't hate this record, but it also wasn't a super fun entry for me. 6/10

Fun stuff

sehr angenehme hintergrundmusik

Very soulful, easy/fun to listen to

Aretha Franklin's voice is fantastic and the songs are catchy, I see why she has the rep she does. That said I wasn't in particularly blown away by this album? A fun listen but no wow factor here.

that was nice, she has a great voice and the instrumentals I kinda like.

bad bitch, queen shit, icon

I've already reviewed I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You and this record is so much like that one to also be entirely competent, but makes me feel like I'm missing something because I wouldn't put that or this as a top album OAT. I'll admit Franklin's music does kind of lack some of the aspects I typically like such as experimentation, atmosphere, story, and failing all else, plain weirdness or some other DIY, underground or alternative energy, so my ears are definitely not ones to appreciate this. The instrumentation and Franklin's vocals are fine, but they are demystified for me considering I spend time around some very talented singers - the control and range Franklin has are not greatest of all time to me if you're just singing forte or fortissimo the whole time. Overall the package isn't interesting enough on it's own or in the genre; it prioritizes immediacy and universality which isn't all that appealing in a world where music is so easy to find and explore.

Some of the most enjoyable of white noise.

I enjoyed this one more than expected.

The biggest reason to listen to 𝘓𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘭 is Aretha Franklin herself. Her voice is so effortlessly powerful and expressive that it’s easy to understand why many people consider her the greatest soul singer of all time. Even the weaker moments are elevated simply because she’s singing them. That said, I’m not sure the album itself is quite as remarkable as its reputation. The songs are good, but a lot of them pass by without leaving a lasting impression on me. I never lose interest, but I rarely feel completely drawn in either. In the end, I come away more impressed by Aretha Franklin than by 𝘓𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘭 as an album.

I didn’t hate it like I thought I might. Some songs I actually knew as well. Queen of Detroit

Good clean smooth fun.

Highlights: Chain of Fools, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Women. 3.8

Mucha alma,voz de otro mundo

Damn she can wail. Lovely album with so much passion. Her voice has so much power, feeling and passion. Cannot be described, you must hear it!

i dont think im into like these type of oldies.

Frankly, I can tell it's good, I just don't really get into it.

Great voice

I listened. She was very talented. Especially like Chain of Fools.

Not her best album and there are better versions of the covers she does but it's the first lady of soul.

Wow! What an INCREDIBLE voice! I've heard her name a million times but never listened to her music. I liked the energy, I liked the style, I liked her voice. It did start to get a little repetitive after a while, and a lack of guitars started to wear on me.

3/5 Would listen to as background music, maybe on a different day I would dig the songs more. Favorite Song: Chain of Fools

Id give it a 3.5 bc it was good music but not really my cup of tea

2 Aretha's in 4 days. It's pretty similar isn't it?

It was a decent album I probably wouldn’t listen again but that’s just because it’s not really my style of music I liked natural woman though

Está bien

Sigh. Sure. Fine. Whatever.

Good listen

Like the other Aretha album I heard on the list so far, she radiates a powerful, soulful voice that carries throughout the record. It’s a joy to listen to her sing, even if this music isn’t typically a go to for me.

This was pleasant. I knew Chain of Fools and (You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman. I also knew the songs People Get Ready and Groovin’, but I didn’t know her versions of them.

I think I’m just not the right person to properly be able to appreciate this album because I agree her voice sounds good but I don’t find anything particularly compelling in this music. It’s pleasant enough to listen to but I don’t think I’d ever feel like this is the music I would choose to listen to. I’m sure you will all have lots of nice things to say about why you liked it

Review - not so good as the earlier Aretha Franklin album I got on this list previously. The backing band is a little rockier which in my opinion doesn't work so well. There are still a lot of classics in the tracklist but her voice can be a bit different from song to song. Still not bad Rating - 6.5/10 Need to hear? YES

6,5/10 Highlights: Chain of Fools (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

A fine album, but it did not really stick with me.

Some classics and what a voice.

The album is strong overall, not every moment feels equally memorable, and at times it blends together more than it stands out. Still, there are highlights that bring energy and personality. Chain of Fools and Money Won’t Change You stand out as the most fun tracks, with a bluesy groove that feels lively and engaging. Those moments give the album a spark that makes it worth coming back to. Overall, a solid and enjoyable record, even if it doesn’t fully connect all the way through.

Clásico

It's a solid album from a great soul singer. I feel like it's a bit of a worn road for me. Aside from that it's a-ok.

A very brief record filled with old school bass lines, rhythm guitar, and horn arrangements. Franklin’s voice, I guess, is a matter of taste, and there were many times when it was just too much.

I didn’t totally mesh with this album, but it’s definitely good. Her voice is crazy impressive.

She has a wonderful voice but it’s not a genre I really get into. Also a shame there’s not much here that she wrote herself. The best song is one I’ve already had on the challenge on a Carole King album. Aretha does it beautifully, mind you.

not for me. beautiful voice

Yea its pretty good I like it. Dont really have much to say abt it apart from that. 6.6/10

This one was great - favorite was chain of fools. I did feel like a lot of it sounded the same

Aretha is right up in the top tier, so it's hard to be overly critical, but the album didn't fully connect woth me despite some individually excellent tracks

Enjoy this type of music for sure. Didn't jam out to it as hard as I thought I would've, but enjoyed having it on for sure. Overall good and was fun.

maybe I wasn't really in the mood for some urethra franklin but I didn't really enjoy this as much as I thought I would

Hallelujah

A Natural Woman // Ain’t No Way // 3.5/5

A stone cold classic with great soul bangers that if you haven't heard you just haven't been around long enough. I was happy to listen to it, and enjoyed the tracks that I hadn't heard before.

Kova mimmi laulamaan!

Soulful and beautiful. Love her, not my usual jam but enjoyable

Chain of fools is pretty timeless I think, for me carries the rest as this genre just isn’t for me, but what a tune. Lyrically and musically great.

Yup that's Aretha Franklin!

The Aretha Franklin with some well-known songs such as A Natural Woman and lesser known songs. Overall really solid.

Thought I might like this more than I did, the recording sounds live almost but suffers in quality a bit for it. Aretha has a good voice but don't think it was shown off on this. Enjoyed it enough but was a shade worse than the other Aretha album.

Really charming. Chain of Fools, and You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman are, of course, the standouts, and the rest of the album was nicely chilled. Doesn't go far enough into a 4 for me, but a very pleasant 3.

Absolutely not my thing, but absolutely very good! When I think of Aretha Franklin, I think of that scene she did in blues brothers, which incidentally is a great film. I appreciate she's great, but it's unlikely I'm ever choosing to listen to her, just not for me, but that's ok. 3.5, mostly because it's great but not my thing

This is a good album. The vocals are great throughout, and there isn't a bad song on the album. I do think the lyrics leave something to be desired at times, they're very generic. And while I don't see myself returning to this album that often in the future, it was a very enjoyable listen. Three stars. (Favorite track: (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.)

Very appealing and excellently sung. However, the production sounds somewhat dated today, and the content of the songs is not only very monothematic and not something I can identify with, but also rather awkward from a modern emancipatory point of view. The title Lady Soul is fitting. 3.5/5

Está bien 3.8

Need to listen again, pretty good

I vibe, but still not my usual favorite type of music.

love the name of the album, it matches the music well :) very soulful

Beautiful energic voice, complemeneted by backing vocals and superb brass ensemble. I liked a lot of songs in this album, especially "Come back baby" and "Since you...". 3.75/5

This was a very good album lots of songs that were pretty big hits!

Aretha is obviously a total powerhouse. My issue is that because her voice is set to "blast" about 90% of the time, I find it fatiguing. I could listen to any one of these songs and say, hey, that's a good/great song, but it's hard for me to tolerate in an album-length format. Too much of a good thing, unfortunately.

listened to some. liked what i heard

Listens: 1 Standout Tracks: N/A I barely got in a full listen, unfortunately. There's nothing wrong with this music. Very pleasant. Great voice. Great backing instrumentation. No complaints

not my typa msuci im not this old but she was a good singer aint no way my fav song

Chain of Fools Money Won't Change You Niki Hoeky (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman Ain't No Way

Decent 3,5

Love the voice and energy. Love some of the songs but not all. Great music to put on when you’re doing a task that involves physical energy

Very very nice songs, better than most things here. Aretha has a beautiful voice, she truly is Lady Soul

3/5 not a bad listen but not for me. nothing memorable. best: -

So smooth

Nicht mein Genre, aber krasse Banger

Her voice here sounds so fresh and youthful, I grew up only knowing her as an old lady and this helped me see her as she was

Hey Nineteen, that’s Retha Franklin. Oh, she knows already. She remembers the Queen of Soul because it was only 10 days ago we had I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You. It’s soul. She sings soul. Album is called Lady Soul. S’all very good soul but not much to write home about. You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman) the main standout. Gimme another Doors album please.

Incredible vocals such a powerful voice not the type of thing I listen to often but I enjoyed it

Nothing wrong with this, but nothing truly exciting either. You Make Me Feel is a classic for good reason, I'd say this is closer to 4 but didn't quite make it

It's fine. I'm not a big fan but this album has some classics and she's the queen of soul!

Same thing as usual, cover songs do not rank as highly in my books. However as usual Aretha’s voice is great

Love me some Aretha, but this one did not shine like the other one.

I enjoyed, and there are some all-time greats here; somehow this one didn’t wow me quite as much as the first Aretha album we listened to.

Regular jazz. 3/5

so good wouldnt choose to listen to it. could put me so sleep

beautiful listen songs like (sweet sweet baby) since you’ve been gone, and chains of fools are my favorites

Some good tunes but thought they became slightly similar sounding

Not my style! But definitely a very well-made album; Aretha's vocals are stunning. Will revisit.

I found "Lady Soul" to be a somewhat inconsistent experience. While the album contains some exceptional 60s R&B, I found myself far more drawn to the grit of the R&B tracks than the more grandiose, soulful arrangements like 'People Get Ready' and '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman'. My main reservation lies with the vocal delivery. It may be considered musical sacrilege, but I often find that even the greatest singers fall into the trap of 'over-singing', showcasing vocal power simply because they can. In the cover of 'People Get Ready' (a great song), the slowed tempo and overwrought gospel gymnastics feel forced and performative, which personally takes me out of the music. This occurs again on 'Good to Me As I Am To You'; despite the brilliant instrumentation, the vocals are belted at a constant high volume that feels exhausting rather than evocative. 'Come Back Baby' narrowly escapes the same fate. I much prefer the restraint shown on 'Groovin’', 'Ain’t No Way', or the standout 'Chain of Fools', where a more subtle delivery allows the song to breathe. For me it's a decent album but not one I will be revisiting. Three stars. A Side 1 "Chain of Fools" (5/5) 2 "Money Won't Change You" (4/5) 3 "People Get Ready" (2/5) 4 "Niki Hoeky" (3/5) 5 "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" (3/5) B Side 1 "(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone" (3/5) 2 "Good to Me As I Am To You" (2/5) 3 "Come Back Baby" (3/5) 4 "Groovin'" (4/5) 5 "Ain't No Way" (4/5) Total - 33 Average - 3.3 206/1001 116/206 albums reviewed were new to me.

Nothing to dislike her but apart from Aint No Way nothing really moved me.

She's brilliant

I heard a couple of songs, yet to hear the entire album. Definitely a vocal powerhouse. But idk . I don't see myself listening to this music on loop

Love listening to Aretha sing. Good album.

great soul album

It was ok but not completely my vibe

Ok overall. Some tracks got a little odd on vocals. Chill and dramatic feeling vibes.

An iconic voice, best shown in the slower songs on this album.

Chill gospel, soul album Best song 1. Listen: ain’t no way

Sweeping vocals, punchy and fun. They don't make them like this anymore

Aretha’s voice is top notch - my favorite arrangements were with an interactive backing band and background singers. Best songs were the ones I knew, could have gone for less understated production. Personal taste.

This is the first album I've listened to through this. I think what I'm going to do is write my favorite quote from each album and rate it on a scale of 1-10. My favorite quote from this album was in the song "Good to Me as I Am to You", "If there's water in the pitcher, and we both need a drink/ To stay alive, my darlin', I'd need less water than you think" I don't really have much to compare this to yet but it was a pretty good album although I wouldn't classify it as life changing, so I think I'll give it a 7/10.

It was really nice to listen to, and she has an insane voice - it's just not really my genre of choice, and I don't see myself coming back to it very often. I wish i could do half stars becuase it's beautiful and deserves more then 3 stars but i just don't see myself coming back to it and nothing really stuck with me.

Favourite track: (You make me feel like) A Natural Woman

She beltin'

Nice backdrop for IT work.

Lady Soul - Aretha Franklin 3/5 - An album with very powerful Vocals but lacking lyrics and instrumentals. Chain of Fool 4/5 - Classic soul with powerful vocals. Money Won't Change You 3/5 - No Comments. People Get Ready 3/5 - Very strong vocals but don't care for the lyrics at all. Niki Hoeky 3/5 - Like it but not sure what she was talking about. Natural Woman 4/5 - Don't know what a natural woman is but I'm happy for her. Since You've Been Gone 3/5 - Another powerful love song. Good to Me as I Am to You 3/5 - No comment. Come Back Baby 3/5 - No Comment. Groovin' 3/5 - Funky.

You make me feel, you make me feeeell! Aretha Franklin's unmistakable voice over some jazzy instrumental will always feel timeless.

Even if it's mostly background music sounding to me, a good recording/performance

I have to give it up to Aretha of course, insane vocalist. This music just doesn’t quite speak to me. I really wish that it did. It’s enjoyable to listen to, but nothing really grabs me. I think I’ve always had a bit of trouble with soul music in general, particularly the vocal styles that are more acrobatic (Aretha is very tasteful mind you) just don’t hit me the way I think they’re supposed to. I would put it on for a certain vibe though.

3/5 . Songs have good energy.

Pretty but not for me, although the hits iconic

Soul was never my cup of tea.

great voice good album

A nice soulful album from the queen of soul.

Pretty good pop-soul music. Good listen!

It's good undeniably i just dont gaf much it's very nice though

Way too short!

Not my think but got to give it to that woman, she is the life and soul of a party

1. That's some jazz like music, not very fond of these kinds of songs. Strong vocal here, can feel how talented the singer is. Chain Chain Chain Chain. 6/10 2. Continues the energy of the previous song, gives the same vibe, less intense though. Can easily see this as radio hit of 70s or 80s. 5/10 3. Wow, pacing here is much slower, I like that. It's like I am alone face to face with vocals, slower and quieter instruments really complements here. 6/10 4. Mysterious vibe, like it's opening for some detective story or something. Interesting. 5/10 5. Slow pacing as a third song and even better balance here. You make me feel like natural woman 7/10 6. Quick pace change, I like bass and drums here, works really well. 6/10 7. So calm. Like this song makes you relax a bit after all. 6/10 8. A fun mood here, like dancing mood. Somewhat reminds me of old dancing club vibe. 7/10 9. It's like time to have a break after dancing for previous song, like pary ended, let's have a talk with friends. 6/10 10. A good ending song here, feels like end of the journey and some goodbye song. No, not goodbye, but see you again song. 6/10 It was kinda a mistake to say jazz here, it's not at all. Still kinda biased against these kind of songs. Overall, album remains good through beginning till end. 6/10

Not my genre. Hell of a voice though.

Enjoyable

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1001 ALBUMS- # 96 The QUEEN of SOUL 👸 🎤💃 Lady of Soul may have captured Franklin at the height of her vocal powers, being a masterclass in passion, control, and emotional truth — the sound of gospel meeting grit, funk meeting fire, and heartbreak meeting empowerment. Having said that, like many performing divas, she may have owned the microphone in front of these great songs, but the writing credits belong to others. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section and The Sweet Inspirations back Aretha with tight, soulful precision. Jerry Wexler’s production keeps everything grounded in groove and gospel fire. Aretha herself plays piano on several tracks, giving the songs their pulsing, church-rooted rhythm. 🎧 (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 🎧 Deep Cut Gem: Good to Me As I Am to You 🎧 Memorable Standout: Chain of Fools The album arrived during a period of intense social and political change in America — the Civil Rights Movement, the rise of Black Power, and the growing feminist consciousness. Aretha Franklin stood at the crossroads of all these movements. Her voice wasn’t only about love and heartbreak; it became a symbol of self-respect, racial pride, and feminine power. The album’s title — Lady Soul — positioned her as both a dignified woman and a spiritual force. This album solidified her transition from a gospel-trained singer to a mainstream cultural icon who spoke directly to the spirit of her time. 🖼️ Album Artwork: Diva Pose Franklin’s vocal control destabilizes gender norms in music. Where male soul singers often equated power with dominance, Aretha’s power lies in emotional command — the ability to shape meaning through tone, phrasing, and silence. She does play piano on several tracks, grounding the rhythm and asserting musical authority. Her arrangements often direct the flow of emotion — she leads the band rather than following it. From a critical standpoint, Lady Soul is an early example of a Black woman exerting control within an industry structured to limit it. It’s a subtle but significant act of artistic resistance. As legendary this album may be along with the unmistakable vocals, I just can’t let it slide that Aretha herself only has two songwriting credits within these outstanding tracks.

What an amazing performer! Lots of great songwriting, great melodies, lots of classics. I wouldn't usually put a record like this on, but no denying she's incredible

Chain chain chaaaaiin

Amazing voice. The vocal runs induce goosebumps. Decent album, some amazing songs, a few good ones and some fillers. Definetly earned its place on the list.

Joyful.

Several lovely songs from an icon!

Enjoyed this.

Definitely better than her other album, but it’s still just alright

she is lady soul

A Natural Women - released 1968

i appreciate aretha franklin

Nicht meine Musik aber extrem entspannt

Classics

surprisingly upbeat

I mean, it's Aretha Franklin. You can't go wrong.

She’s undeniably emotional; just not emotive for me.

I struggle sometimes with this era of soul. Some of it I love, and usually can always appreciate, but the over use of it in movies and other forms of media throughout the years has forever tainted it for me. Goes without saying, but she sounds incredible.

I love the sound of the music on here, but I was never a big fan of Aretha's singing voice. Too high-frequency for my ears. Almost like an alarm or siren (not the one in greek myth, but the one on a police car or ambulance)

(3) v powerful vocals

Great vocals, not my cup of tea but certainly nothing to hate on here

Groovy

Good stuff

No doubt she can sing and own a song! Opening with classic "Chain Of Fools" and including "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" and great glue tracks like her versions of "People Get Ready" & "Groovin", "Money Won't Change You", and "Come Back Baby". I also enjoyed "Niki Hoeky", the least listened to track on the album. I did feel a few were high pitched and maybe over-sung. 3 stars, for longevity, hits, timeless sound and star power.

What a fabulous album.

Hey sister, soul sister.

She's one of the greatest of all time for a reason. Great Motown Album. Full of hits.

3 - fun and soulful

There needs to be a rating option for, like, “I understand this album is brilliant but it’s just not for me” because it feels wrong to give this album 3 stars when I can hear the immense skill and talent and just obvious EXCELLENCE of it but the way it’s mostly whooshing over my head like so many other 3 star albums makes me need to give it 3 stars. It’s not you Aretha it’s me, honestly.

It's soul, it's okay, not my thing

top 3: - chain of fools - people get ready - (you make me feel like) a natural woman

lekkere soul. Zal ik nog wel een keer opzetten

Not my cup of tea. I love 80s music but this was a little too ballads-y for me.

There were some good parts.

Pretty good

⭐️Chain of Fools

There's certainly nothing to object to in this. Good music, well performed. It's not really my style, but I did enjoy it.

I've listened to this album so many times, trying to enjoy it or understand what I could be missing, but it never manages to do anything for me, and I'm not proud at all of saying it. Aretha Franklin is such a spectacular singer with a powerful and very emotional voice. The band does also a great job accompanying the vocals. And yet, I fail to resonate with anything from this record. This album isn't bad by any means. Is just that I'm not really feeling any strong emotion. At least I can appreciate her talent and the performances Wish I did liked it more...

Lovely Album, Chain Chain chain!

Good soul album - obviously great voice, pretty good songs. I get why this is on the list, but I just never really connected with Aretha.

I need some more "Respect" in my life, but this album was fine.

That's a nice voice.

Behageligt album.

Gode sange men også kedelige sange

3 out of 5. She has a great voice and knows how to use it.

Good listen

Classic, but nothing I’d listen to on a regular basis.

What a voice. I knew the hits from AM Radio back in the day, so was keen to listen to the whole album. It is a bit same-y but Natural Woman just stands out as a vocal driven offering amongst the rest, that was my Gem too.

Great voice, solid songs. Nothing too innovative.

A consistent vibe

Some classic stuff. I can take or leave soul music but she is good. Rating: 3

Classic stuff with crazy voice.

Great groovy record for a Friday afternoon. I know this isn’t anything that hasn’t been said before but even outside of the power of her voice, the smoothness of it is incredible

It’s classic Aretha. ‘Nuff said.

Influential and outstanding. Hard to beat her singing even now, but she has the same problem as Sinatra where her compilation albums are going to be infinitely better than any of her normal albums just due to the amount of tracks she has.

I have disliked the sounds of soul my whole life - I can take a song or two, but as a gente, no thank you.

Soul, 1968 -> 3

Pretty nice to listen to.

Great voice, legend of music, but not my style of music.

a 3.5 if i could, didn't amazing love it enough for a 4 but was better than just casual background music. such an amazing voice, hoping there's some music from her in here. added Chain of Fools to liked!

Great vocals Nice soul production

Was good, but nothing was especially notable to my 21st century ears.

Very very nice. ain't no way ahh album

Decent, but more mentions of god than I'd like.

Was it just me or was the mix off on a lot of these songs? Felt like I was listening to a band spread out all across a giant stage, everyone standing like 50 feet away from each other. The bass was all in my left ear and the drums all in the right. Obviously, aretha has generational pipes

This is okay. I should care more for her, but I don't.

The title says it. Great Voice, lyrics cheesy at times. The songs are so short, it feels like a snippet tape, sometimes. Fav: (You make me feel like) A natural woman

Chain of fools, bon ver d’oreille!

Chain of Fools: Fun kinda catchy, relistenable Money won't change you: Good upbeat People Get Ready: chill listen nice guitar part Niki Hoeky: Catchy good background listen A Natural Woman: Slow and Chill Since you've been gone: catchy and fun sounding guitar Good to me as I am to you: amazing vocals slow, chill Come back baby: kinda boring Groovin: kinda boring but jazzy Ain't no way: slow and chill

it was ok

Lowkey zoned out listening to this and dont rmb much but it was cool and i liked it

fínasti stórsöngur, 3,5.

Pretty good, of course her voice is amazing. Not my go to type of music and I'll probably never listen again but still enjoyed it

Good stuff

prettttttttty gooooooood

Honestly I was expecting something a little more upbeat but this was more mellow and smooth, so not really up my alley. Nothing offensive though at least.

3.2 Starts off strong, first few (God one aside) are bangers, but then tails off. I think I can't do too much of these in a row tbh. But appreciate it's importance.

***a good album

name seitmer was gloset hanis no nie isch spassig gsi chan nüm meh schribe scusa scusa scusa

Some familiar songs in there

It's good, but not my type of music

This was enjoyable.

Surprised about how much i enjoyed the album. I don't usually listen to old soul music but i really enjoyed the angelic vocals and calm but grand sounding horn instruments and piano in the background. The backing vocals where also great and added some much needed depth into the sound. Some songs did sound a little bland still and like they didn't bring much new to the table. The themes of love and femineity where pulled of ok but i enjoyed hearing it regardless. Her voice was just wow and it one of the best soul albums. noteworthy tracks: A natural women Groovin' aint no way

Can see why this is a classic, she has an incredible voice

This was great - what an amazing voice!

It was ok

Chain chain chain the songs together! Iconic in it's genre, but little bit dated for my taste.

Aretha may be one of the most influential vocalists of all time. She was the one who brought big gospel stylings into pop and became an early gold standard of powerhouse vocals. This is a good album, but it is the vocals, not particularly the songs, that are the star. Not to say there aren't any classics, like the Carole King one. Other than that, it's not too dissimilar from Aretha's other albums of the era. Key tracks: Chain of Fools (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

Soul is not my thing, but I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would.

Good singing where the band has as much as fun as the singer. I wonder if her music changed much in the later decades.

A cornerstone of soul music.

First listen

Nowhere near the quality of the other Aretha album I've had on the Project. Still sensational, from a vocal perspective, but it feels a little bit lazy and phoned in at times. You Make Me Feel is the exception, such power and emotion.

Goatrethra Franklin

Aretha Franklin is one of the great vocalists of the 20th century and she showcases that talent well in Lady Soul. I'm pretty new to listening to soul music outside of a few ubiquitous classics, so it may just be a feature of the genre, but a lot of the time, her vocals seemed more focused on showcasing her virtuosity, with quick runs up and down her range, rather than creating a cohesive whole with the instruments. Favorite song: Groovin'

Aretha's voice is undeniably spectacular on Lady Soul. It's no wonder Natural Woman is one of her biggest hits. I hadn't heard many of the other songs on this album, and I'm glad I finally gave it all a listen. I never really go out of my way to listen to soul, and I don't think I will after listening to this album, but I did enjoy listening to Aretha's full vocal spectrum put on display. Her power and her emotional range are evident throughout. Ain't No Way proved to be the perfect ending for an album, featuring a softer vocal expression and arrangement that makes the listener really feel like things have finished. Credit where credit is due, Aretha Franklin is an amazing talent, and the album is a fine example of soul at its commercial peak. I wish there were more than 5 ratings, because it feels wrong giving Lady Soul only a 3, but I'm really just not a fan of the genre. It's also music produced for a huge label (Atlantic), and the commercialized feel comes through on this album.

Chain chain chain …. Ain’t no way , a natural woman some great songs in here . Solid 4

Unfortunately in one ear out the other

not my taste but good!

Listened through, good album, wouldn't listen through again, the hits are hits for a reason. Best songs: Natural woman Chain of fools

Chain of Fools 3.8 Money Won't Change You 3.6 People Get Ready 3.3 Niki Hoeky 3.4 (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman 3.4 (Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone 3.3 Good to Me As I Am To You 3.3 Come Back Baby 3.4 Groovin' 3.4 Ain't No Way 3.5 Score: 3.44

Uh, really does nothing for me. Can't deny that there's passion in her voice, though. ⭐⭐⭐

It's pretty nice for ancient music

It's old. It's soul. I don't get the hype. I feel like a broken record, but: it's good, but not for me.

It was alright and she’s a great singer but still left me a bit disappointed. 3 stars

Nice upbeat album thx :)

it has words! i thought this album was very catchy, a little more upbeat than what i am used to. i knew you make me feel like a natural woman already. i listened twice to the album!

classic

Aretha is always great but I’m not feeling it so much with this album compared the the previous one in the project… a 3.5 but rounding down today.

One of the greatest female Vocalist. She is truly a genius and talented and breathtaking. Great Album but next to the hits where not much that kept me on the same high. Still an all time great with all due respect. Maybe I was expecting too much because of her name and status. (3.5/5.0)

Enjoyable but not particularly memorable

Je passe. If i had to listen to soul music today, it would be something like Tower of Power with Rocco Prestia

yeah i mean she's an excellent singer but it kinda didn't age well

Soulful women that deserves the respect she demands, but this cracker wasn’t really picking up what she was putting down, yah dig?

Not really my thing

I listen to this album but wasn't focus on it so kinda complicated to judge and I didn't have the time to listen to it again but actually as I listened to it without being annoyed or anything like that I guess it was enjoyable and Aretha had a really nice voice anyways so that's clearly not bad and I recognize some bangers so it's a good one.
