One of the greats

I don't need to listen to this album to know how fantastic it is as I've owned a copy since the 90s. But I'll take the excuse to listen to it anyway. 5 stars, 100%.

for the nostaglia

The best known songs are all worthy of 5 stars, and the weaker songs do not lower that rating much. For me I would rate it A- but still 5 stars.

Anger, vitriol All of us want to be loved. Damn you, Dave Coulier.

Burned this one out in college. Every song sticks. Great album

Probably the most fun I’ve had listening to a woman being pissed off.

This is how you make an album. Beginning to end. *chef’s kiss*

Cracking

This really is one of those albums that captures the vibe of 90s. The vocals, the lyrics, and the overall production all being exceptionally great. Alanis' voice took a little bit of time to warm up too but it really kept the experience interesting and captivating. So many hits on this along with some of the songs with less total listens being fire as well. Wonderful album, would listen again. Best - You Oughta Know, Hand In My Pocket, Right Through You, Forgiven, You Learn (MPF), Head over Feet, Mary Jane, and Not The Doctor Worse - No bad songs but Perfect and Wake Up are decent/ok 4.50-5.00/5

I actually revisited this a few years ago. It wasn't my thing when it came out while I was in middle school, but "Jagged Little Pill" has stood the test of time and was ready for me when I was. Banger after banger; a masterpiece really. Hard to believe how young Alanis was when she wrote this, and kudos to Glen Ballard for letting her do her thing and putting the exact right support in place.

What an album. Highly catchy, yet also with a good dash of Alanis' personality baked into the 13 tracks (14 including the hidden acapella track).

Of course that’s a 5. It was gonna be a 5 just because it had You Oughta Know and Ironic on it, but my goodness, some of those other tracks are fabulous; Forgiven and Perfect, in particular, are so fucking tuned into my sensibilities out of 90s rock, and there’s not a single bad track on here. Her vocals are off the charts for most of this album; just super strong control for someone constantly singing at such a high pitch, but when she goes deeper… man. Those moments are standout. The guitar riffs and the production on here is fucking crazy good; I don’t know if I’ve paid that much attention to the sound design on the bigger hits with headphones in before, but I clearly underestimated just how much work was poured into the instrumentals. Yes, it’s pretty clearly dated to 1995, especially with how much You Learn feels like it could’ve been the theme song to a 90s teen drama, but I kinda don’t care – this was just a spectacular listen for me, and I can’t believe I never listened to the whole thing until today. Fantastic stuff here, easy 5.

I rode my bike so fast

frustrated by your apathy

Raw, powerful stuff. How could Uncle Joey hurt Alanis like this?

Quintessential 90’s album. I gave it 5 stars isn’t that ironic don’t you think!

I've listened to this album many times (I owned it on CD when it came out in 1995) and almost every song is absolutely wonderful. Alanis and Glen did a great job with this album and it's still great. Five stars easily.

O MELHOR DE TODOS

It's Alanic Morissette. Enough said.

Banger after banger on this album. A Five for me. No notes.

I’ve got one hand in my pocket and other one is giving this album five stars. Preemptively calling Chris a knobhead for his inevitable comment about the lack of irony in Ironic. How original. Simpsons: Yes

Didn't expect to enjoy this, but it was awesome. All I knew about Alanis Morissette before was Ironic and the irritating lyrics (but an absolute tune). The whole album was decent though and really like her voice.

Didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did but Alanis nailed it with this album!

Knew pretty much every song already. Nice to not hear in a karaoke bar.

I got this album long after its release when I was in college and driving an old car with a CD player as its best option for playing music. This was ALWAYS in CD slot 1. I knew most of the singles already, but was drawn in even further by the raw, visceral lyricism from one Alanis Morissette. It sounds so poppy despite the anger displayed. Many listening to this album for the first time will probably write off Morissette as "bitchy" and her voice as "grating", but her performance just sells it even more for me with each consecutive listen. This album never loses momentum. I mean there are SIX singles scattered across and are paced nicely in my opinion. Starting with the strong, anthemic "All I Really Want", right into the raw & emotional "You Oughta Know" (Who is the ex-boyfriend? Is it Uncle Joey from Full House? We'll never know!). It isn't all cranked to the max at all times though, with some lighter jams such as "Hand in My Pocket", "You Learn", and my personal favorite, the silly and iconic "Ironic". I'm a male in my mid-20's, but something about strong female artists/vocalists from this era just draws me in. I guess it's no coincidence why I also listen to Garbage, No Doubt, The Breeders, and others. These female-led groups & solo artists tend to grab my attention more than others, and I'm always willing to listen. "Jagged Little Pill" is the cream of the crop in that regard. Easy 10/10 for me.

Off to a strong start, lovely voice. A chaotic album so far. Ought to Know is my favourite. Never mind, Right Through You is the best song I’ve heard. Great lyricism and the guitars oooooh my. God this is a great album. I love guitars going ham and along with a uke/simtar sounding instrument!!!! Every song just makes this album better and better. And I have heard of her before with Ironic, which is a certified banger. As previously mentioned, IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER. Close to a ten outta ten album. Favs: The final 3 songs; Ironic, Not a Doctor, and Wake Up. Least Fav got to sadly be All I Really Want. 9/10

When I saw this pop up I was like, "Oh yeah, Alanis, she's ok". But this album is just hit after hit after hit. Faves from these sessions: Not the Doctor

5 stars on a wave of nostalgia, for sure. This album was the soundtrack of my sixth form experience, for good or for ill. The singles were absolutely inescapable everywhere, and the whole album was constantly playing in the sixth form common room (and unlike My Bloody Valentine, Alanis' songs survive being played on shitty tinny travel speakers pretty well!). Despite being in a predominantly METAL phase, I think I caved in and bought a copy, too. It's a testament to her songwriting, I suppose, because normally I balk at getting anything force fed to me like that, but I did grow to have some affection for this album. (Though, if I were to revisit some Alanis these days, I'd probably opt for "Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie".) Fave tracks - "Hand In My Pocket" stood out on these play throughs. Any track on the album can beam me back to the 90s, though.

::drools:: '90s rocker girls all day every day! I knew about half these songs already but took a deeper listen to the lyrics, and some were new to me (I particularly liked "Not the Doctor"). Putting this one in the same category as the man-hating anti-patriarchy Liz Phair type stuff that I love.

Excellent. It's been a while!

The literal first lyric being "Do I stress you out?" is a mood. "You Oughta Know" is a song I didn't know I knew. So is "Head Over Feet." So is VERY MUCH "Ironic." "Hand in My Pocket" is a good making do song. First impression of "You Learn" is a little too repetitive. "Wake Up" has delicious flowy harmonies.

Starting with one I know and love.

If you are listening on Apple please turn off the Dolby atmos or it will sound like she’s yelling at you a cappella. Of course the big singles were very overplayed, but if you can get past that…Easy five star but at least two stars are Flea’s

I believe I listened to his album frequently when it came out. I only recognize the singles here though. It’s hard to listen to because she’s not singing; she’s venting. Sounds crazy & snotty. Album of its time. I miss the days. 💧

May 31, 2024 (later on) HL: "You Learn", "All I Really Want", "You Oughta Know", "Hand in My Pocket", "Ironic" It's been at least 100 albums since I've had one I've heard before. Is it bad that "You Oughta Know" has my favourite Flea bass, even among RHCP songs? Is it a perfect album? No, but also yes

loved it, her vocals and lyrics are so powerful and i love her attitude

I love this album. Great songs. It's a classic that's definitely worth keeping in your collection.

Fantastic. Brimming with the angst of someone who reached adulthood and realized that it is just as complicated, confusing, and unsatisfying as it feels when you’re a teenager. I love the way she does different variations of the same chorus like swapping out one line. She’s articulate, emotive, and that Smashing Pumpkins-esque guitar tone is killer!

Loved it when it came out and loved it now.

This is a modern classic.

This album is filled with staggeringly good lyrics. They’re so smart, and heartbreaking, and relatable, and honest, and thoughtful, and wise - I cannot even believe they were written by a 19-year-old. I'm a child of the 90s, so of course I've heard the big radio releases, but unlike Alanis I was nowhere near as mature or emotionally intelligent to really pick up on the words. It's simultaneously a VERY 90s time capsule album, and a timeless album. You know, it’s almost a shame that You Oughta Know is the song she’s most well known for. I remember the talk always being how she was like kind of a psycho ex-girlfriend. When I hear it now I just hear pain and catharsis and an attempt to come to grips with the most intense emotional pain of one’s life. Which is what every breakup feels like at 19! But then the rest of the songs on the album show the growth, and self awareness, and expectations for future relationships, the healing process that shows how she came out the other side of that pain. There’s an understanding that pain is a part of life and if you embrace it, and learn from it, that it can be positive. it’s almost like You Oughta Know is the first half of the movie and most people don’t know how the movie ends. There are a couple songs that I don't think are as strong as others. I'd probably give it 4.5 if I could. Normally, for a 5 star review, I can't pick out any weak songs, but the lyrics on this album, I think, are so overwhelmingly great that I can forgive a couple songs that I, personally, don't connect to.

I really liked this album back in the day but suspected it wasn't actually all that good. Revisiting it I have the same suspicion but I sure enjoyed singing along loud and mad. Regardless, belongs on this list.

1 of 1. Alanis Morissette gives her all the whole album. Not a single skip.

Isn’t it iconic

Great album. Really indicative of '90s pop rock

BANGERRRRRRRRRRRRRR

It rocks, nothing else to say.

Distilled 90s. Managed to be both hugely overplayed and good, and not get old. I think basically every single westerner of a certain age owns or owned a copy of this on CD. Managed to be both clever and dumb. And endearing. Chock full of singles. Big fan of Head Over Feet. Contains a song called Mary Jane which, in a break from tradition, isn't about marijuana.

An incredible, emotional, angst-filled, pop-rock album. I only knew Ironic going into this one, but was blown away by how much went into each song. Some of the mixing sounds dated but the production still holds up overall. Her voice sounds amazing and raw, and when she decides to layer it it sounds refreshing and awesome. My favorites were You Oughta Know, You Learn, and Ironic.

The vocals, the lyrics, the angst, the harmonica. Everything is here. Never realized how many of these songs I already knew and liked. Love it.

Очень нравится ее тембр, когда слушаешь по одной песне, вроде не бросается в глаза. А вот альбом - другое дело

Of course! I played this out back in the day

This album has so many iconic 90s songs on it that I was genuinely shocked I didn't recognize the artists name. Very 90s in sound in. Angry and spiteful, but also poppy and honest. Pretty cool to listen to the full album and swell in nostalgia, even though I had never even really "listened" to it.

This album has been and will always be incredible. It's so purely emotional that it will stand the test of time.

I know this album well. I will listen again soon but I don't really need to.

This album is awesome, full stop. In 57 minutes Alanis Morissette shows off pretty much a full range of what an alt rock album can be. It rocks hard at times, she can hang on a slower ballad, she's angsty, she's introspective, she pulls in things like harmonicas at times to keep it interesting, the list goes on. Sure, some of the songs have been a bit overplayed in the last 29 years (it came out a week after I was born), and some of it can sound a bit cheesy here and there as time has passed, but that's not really her fault. I was honestly surprised that I already recognized most of the songs on this album, even though I don't think I've listened to it in-full previously. Just a great album top-to-bottom. I had a real hard time picking a top song, there's about 6 options that would have been reasonable choices here. Here's to hoping there's no rain on my wedding day next month. Favorite song: Hand in My Pocket Other: All I Really Want, You Oughta Know, Perfect, Right Through You, Forgiven, You Learn, Head Over Feet, Mary Jane, Ironic, Not the Doctor, Wake Up 5/7/24

This feels like the favorite album of a girl you'd date the summer after high school. You were young, naive, and innocent. She pushed your boundaries, gave you new experiences, and showed you a part of life you never knew. It felt like she had everything figured out. Like nothing could get in her way or throw her off, but in reality she was just as young and naive as you were. You knew the relationship would never last, but that summer changed your life. You're now happily married with a loving wife and three kids. Your middle child is going off to college and life couldn't be better, but you keep catching yourself thinking back to that girl with the Jagged Little Pill CD and some of the best two months of your life.

Pretty fucking great. I hadn't heard any of these songs that weren't megahits. Now, I've got no idea how anyone sings like this, but holy hell these songs are money. 90s to a fault.

YoU kNoW, nOnE oF tHoSe AcTuAlLy FiT tHe DeFiNiTiOn Of IrOnY... I don't care! This album is the national anthem of the 90's and it's perfect!

we love feminine rage

En su tiempo no la soportaba. Pero ...

This album is a tremendous cultural juggernaut; it's hard to think of an album that epitomizes music in the mid-90's better than this one. It is a hugely successful professional rebrand for Alanis, first and foremost, and it's the rebirth of her as a much more consciously independent artist. I personally am not someone who would call themselves a fan, I often skip Ironic when it comes on the radio because it's been so overplayed in my life, but I have the utmost respect for everything she's done for women in music and for Canadian music. If I make a concerted effort to block out years and years of ingrained familiarity for this album and try to give it a fresh listen, I can confidently say that it does still come out as an impressive artistic offering. It holds up, and is aged well. The songwriting is excellent, the production is immaculate, the lyrical content is relatable and authentic. There's a realness here that is so accessible to listeners, which is obviously why it blew up when it was originally released. This is the sound of my burgeoning youth, it is an integral part of the soundtrack for growing up in southern Ontario in the 90's. It is angry and raw in a way that nobody expected, but it’s also soft and achingly vulnerable too. Alanis left no emotion unchecked and listeners were enthralled by her. It’s a staple of 90s post-grunge alt rock and it demands it’s rightfully earned 5 star review.

pure angsty 90s alanis. the whole album is full of bangers.

Rating: 9.5/10 Amazing album, Alanis Morissette has one of the most unique voices in all of music. She sings with so much passion, energy, and so beautifully and does so in a one-of-a-kind way. Her vocal inflections and technique separates her from other artists. The choruses on this album are phenomenal, incredibly catchy and interesting vocally. The lyrics are quite introspective and well-written as well. Instrumentally this album is great too, nothing too special but enough to support Morissette's fantastic voice. Favorite songs: pretty much all of them. Least favorite song: Mary Jane.

Great Album

This is the seminal 90s album. Strong grunge-influences, wrapped in a tight songwriting package, one of the best selling albums of all time, leading to a world tour with a strong support act: Radiohead, just before releasing OK Computer. It's all connected, man.

Veel dikke hits, af en toe wat minder. Als geheel echt goed.

This album is so 90s I love it

Bien weno tremendos banger q buenas ttas jaja mentira. 10/10

it's just dripping in 90's, isn't it? still slaps though

Great album. Even the overplayed singles are better in context. Not my favorite thing in the world but really good.

Fantastic album. One of the best of the 90s and one of the best ever by a female artist. Every song is great and most of them are iconic. So, so good.

Boring except for clocks

I love it!!

Before listening: There really is nothing I can say about this album that hasn't been said for the last thirty years. It's absolutely fucking brilliant, and it fit the post grunge, alternative style like a glove. I will add though, (and I am definitely guilty of this) that this album has probably become underrated because all the context of its release has been forgotten. Alanis was different, edgy, and she swore in a song. She was a rockstar, and without her, we wouldn't have a lot of the female rockstars that came afterwards. After listening: I said what I have to say.

Hard to disentangle nostalgia from my review of this album, but I had not listened to many of these songs and I LOVED them - Head Over Feet, Mary Jane? So good! How is this my first time hearing it?? Fantastic voice, emotional. What a great album.

Najbolje pjesme: 1. Ironic 2. You Oughta Know 3. Hand In My Pocket 4. Right Through You 5. Head Over Feet 6. Forgiven

Wow, what an album. It feels like the 90s have come back and slapped me in my face - in a good way. Probably the most 90s I can think of crammed into album. I have heard all of the hit songs on the album in isolation from each other ('Hand In My Pocket', 'You Oughta Know', 'Ironic', 'You Learn') but I never realized they were from the same artist, and certainly not from the same album. This is extremely impressive considering some of them are the biggest hits of the 90s. After finishing it yesterday I was impressed, but not much else. Since then I haven't been able to stop thinking of the album. The hit songs are just so good. Alanis' singing can get a bit screamy and fatiguing after a while ('Forgiven', for example), but she has such interesting and clever flow when she sings that just grabs your attention. Also the lyrics are quite frank and fits together in an unexpected way. This feels quite poppy for me, and it shouldn't really suit me that it well, but it just somehow. I never thought I would, but I can't think of any reason not to give this 5 stars. The hit songs are extremely catchy and it feels like I can listen to them over and over again. Then ones in between are not bad either, at least not bad enough to drag down the overall impression. Probably the biggest surprise on this list so far, I never thought it would turn out like this when I put it on. So much fun!

First song, this woman is deep, second song, that guy dodged a bullet. 3rd song, therapy might help. The video for One Hand in My Pocket was filmed in my neighborhood. Pissed at a guy, the Catholic church next song. You Learn, Head over Feet, the hits keep coming. I never gave this album a full listen, it's a classic.

She may not be the first 90's alt-rock female singer, and may not be the last. She may not be too consistent for the rest of her career, but Alanis was on point when she released this album. It is a jewel. Lyrics, music, harmonies, personnel... everything. A blueprint.

An excellent album and one of my favourites from the nineties. My mother loves this album and we regularly sing along so plenty of nostalgia there too. Her pop-rock melodies are perfectly balanced between both elements. Intrinsic, introspective songwriting is found on every track. Personal favourite: ‘Forgiven’. First track heard: ‘Ironic’. Second track heard: ‘Hand in My Pocket’.

One of my firsts. Love it.

Iconic

Alanis , always greate !

An absolute classic.

Still amazing. Still moving. What an impression!

Banger after banger after banger. Pretty much perfection.

I really enjoyed this album - now more than I probably did when it first came out. Maybe I have lived life a little more since then to relate to her lyrics and the angst in her voice. At times her voice seems screechy on the high notes, but it only adds to the anger/frustration/disillusionment in the lyrics. Loved everything about the songs.

„It's like rain on your wedding day“ ist die Zeile vom Welthit „Ironic“. Ich weiß aus eigener Erfahrung das muss nicht schlecht sein und so taucht man ein in einen der prägendsten Sounds der 90er. Tolle weitere Stücke „Your Oughta Know“, „Head Over Feet“ und nicht zuletzt „Hand in my pocket“. Gerade dieser Song überzeugt musikalisch und lyrisch. „ I've got one hand in my pocket And the other is giving the peace sign.“ zeigt die Zerrissenheit und Komplexität der Generation X - Tolles Album 😊

Amazing album. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

Love this album. I'd forgotten how good it was. She was great in concert, too - I saw her at the NEC the year this album came out.

Haven't listened to this album for decades. It still is as powerful now as it was then. Alanis was 20 when recording this and her writing prowess is amazing. The way she tells her stories, full of emotions and depth, is unique and captivating. "Hand in My Pocket" is still my favorite track.

Hard to decide whether this gets a 4 or 5. There are some certified bangers here, but there are a few slower songs that really drag when you listen to the entire album. Ultimately I think I'll round the 4.5 up to a 5 given how high the highs are here. Just an iconic 90's album, despite the shots at my beloved Uncle Joey.

Classic album. One of my favorites from the 90s

This one is everything. It hasn't lost a skoonch of charm since 1995. From the power anthems of You Oughta Know and Hand in My Pocket to the tender depth and pain of Perfect, this album is iconic.

Cet album m'a accompagnée toute mon adolescence.

I enjoyed every song.

Jagged Little Pill is a timeless masterpiece that showcases Morissette's ability to infuse raw emotion into every lyric and deliver powerful hooks and solidifies her status as a musical icon. Ballard's production elevates each track, creating a dynamic sonic landscape that perfectly complements Morissette's impassioned vocals. From the angst-filled anthem You Oughta Know to the introspective Hand in My Pocket, every song on the album resonates with authenticity and depth. The themes of love, angst, and self-discovery explored in the album remain relevant and relatable across generations. Morissette's knack for crafting killer choruses adds another layer of brilliance to the album's already stellar composition. Together, Morissette and Ballard have created a musical legacy that stands the test of time. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 9 STAND OUT TRACK - Mary Jane

Major. Massive. Consumed my life. Love

Love this album, the deeper cuts are so nice too. Love the goofy lyrics at times and Flea’s bass guitarings. Production sounds cool and very 90s but not mentally loud 5 just cos I listen to this on the reg Wine dine 69 me 🙏

cool vibes. interesting voice - kinda weird but fits the vibe really well tbh. cool beans. 4/5

YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU OUGHTA KNOWWW

Although I’m not the biggest fan Of personal bitterness albums As a whole I have come to realize That all musical art forms share the aches and pains of life in one form or another and this album has it in abundance and the more you listen the more you share her pain and angst and come to your Jesus moment that this is a f..ing Great album and give it an unequivocal 5

Yo, what a good fucking album. 5/5

Just a seminal 90s album, so many great hooks and soaring choruses! I still remember my 21 year old self buying this and playing the fuck out of it. Great thing is it still holds up!

There are a few albums I have in mind that completely encapsulate the zeitgeist of the 90s. This album by Alanis is one of those albums. Amongst other releases by Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Oasis, and No Doubt to name a few, this album earns a shining place in the collections of the greats from the decade. From the very first chord struck to the last call to "wake up," this release is a whirlwind of powerful alternative that gets you moving, gets your hands up and fingers pointing. It also ebbs and flows from biting and righteous anthemic declarations, "You Oughta Know" and "Right Through You" to more reflective tenderness, "Perfect" and "You Learn" and in a balanced way. It is clear that the narrative in the album is one of scorn and fire. But even within the righteous anger, there is room for one of my favorite love songs from the era "Head Over Feet." Also included in this album are the timeless "Hand in My Pocket" and "Ironic" which transport us all back to the time when these tracks were blasting in our walkmen or discmen. The album isn't a perfect one, some tracks are less memorable and it kind of tapers off after "Ironic" in my opinion. But that imperfection suits the album very well as a complete whole. As we all feel rather imperfect when finding ourselves after heartbreak and through the fractures of life. The influence and heartfelt inspiration that this album evokes is palpable and undeniable. It teaches us all to gather strength and call things out for what they are and to celebrate the good and seemingly mundane aspects of life with humor and grace. Really worth a listen to those who have never heard it and a great nostalgic re-listen to those who have.

One of my all-time favorites.

This is another decade maker. Its a beautiful collection of narrative, distinct and catchy vocals and the backing of a great sound core.

Creative and very listenable disco grooves with that beautiful 90s crunch. Iconic album name- all you have to do is say 'Jagged Little Pill' and everyone knows who you're talking about. People also know the lyrics. Taylor Hawkins on the drums just takes the record even higher. The way he winds up before they drop into the chorus works very well. Her first song made the playlist, but honestly any one of these songs could.

🎸👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Jagged Little Pill … stands as a timeless masterpiece of Jagged Little Pill stands as a timeless masterpiece of emotional honesty and vulnerability. Alanis Morissette’s fearless willingness to lay herself bare through music has created an album that continues to resonate with listeners, and inspiring countless individuals to embrace their own vulnerabilities and find strength in their authenticity.

Still as Great as it was all those years ago

Fantastic album! I was caught off guard with the first song but I loved the whole album!

Still relevant, still powerful. How many rockers have Broadway shows built around their music? (a few, but not many)

This is not the best album of the 90s, but it does encapsulate the sound of the 90s perhaps better than any other record.

Echt leuk Weirdly strijdvaardig pittig / punky

Love. Love. Love. Reconnecting with all the lyrics.

no notes. one of my most favorite albums of all time, and it was my first concert.

finally an album i already knew in its entirety!

Alanis is a goddess she cannot get anything less than 5 stars from me. Also I appreciated this album so much more after watching the documentary.

a rare one-album-wonder

Love it, classic!

So many classics in one hard hitting album. Thank you!

I really like this album. I remember when it came out: I liked it then too.

Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill My review of this album is going to be more personal rather than historical. This album came out during my Junior year of college (1995). You Oughta Know was everywhere and was only a precursor of what was going to come for Alanis and the Jagged Little Pill album. College is where my musical tastes began to really change. (1991-1996) In high school I mainly listened to what is now known as hair band. Now, there's nothing wrong with that and I still go back and listen to those artists, but something changed during those years. I moved from artists like Poison and Mötley Crüe to Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Grunge was beginning to be my genre of choice. I also listened to 90s country (product of the radio stations near my college) but there was something about this new music genre, it really spoke to me. I also began to flirt with artists like Tori Amos and other female artists. And Alanis merged those two interests with this album. Music is a time machine. Listening to a specific song can transport you back to that time in your life. It can make cry tears of sadness or tears of joy, depending on your journey around that song. Like I said before, you couldn't turn on MTV without seeing the You Oughta Know video and the speculation of who this song was written about still rages today, we're looking at you Uncle Joey! I was able to fulfill a dream come true somewhere between 98 & 01. At the time I worked for Best Buy and they were sponsoring a tour of Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette. I volunteered (along with my wife) to hand out flyers at the show for free tickets. It was so so so good! Anyway, all of that too say that this album is very special to me. I loved the anger and the unapologetic nature of this Canadian woman who really opened the door for future female artists like Fiona Apple, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and other artists. I think it's why I'm still drawn to strong women (in life and in music)! 5/5

It felt like popular music in the 90s was unique in that instead of ballads and bravado from inflated egos we got songs full of angst and despair. Jagged Little Pill reflects that perfectly. There are definitely some subtle grunge influences on this album reflected in slower downbeat verses and a louder more prominent chorus. With 5 hit singles (You oughta know, Hand in my Pocket, Head Over Feet, You Learn, Ironic) this album goes down as a crown jewel, winning album of the year, for an artist who embraced her strife and channeled it into something amazing, but could never get close to the same success for the rest of her career.

Some albums get a bit of a nostalgia vote. I genuinely loved this coming up on the generator. I still remember all the lyrics and was singing along like a maniac. And boy does her anger at crappy men resonate. Guys who are commenting on her looks before even mentioning the music 🖕🏻The ingrained misogyny is strong

Wow what an album. Great singing, instrumentation, full of passion. Lives up to its reputation.

Classic. Almost every song on this album was a hit. Great song writing and lyrics

Very good and easy to listen to

Alanis strong voice comes in different shapes and sizes whilst finding a way to blend into each and every track

Absolute classic. Banger after banger

Immediate 5 star. Love Alanis, her music and her lyrics. There's such a brilliant edginess to the music and lyrics. The songs exude intelligence and raw femininity. All I Really want - A classic - "And all I really want is some of style.." You Oughta Know - A classic song in my top ten - every word a masterpiece - "..and are you thinking of me when you fuck her" Perfect - A slow classic - "Be a good girl try a little harder' Hand in my pocket - Another classic - "I feel drunk but I'm sober..." Right through you - "You took a long hard look at my ass". So angry and edgy Forgiven - Delicate classic - 'You know how us Catholic girls can be" You learn - "Swallow it down (what a jagged little pill)" Head Over Feet - "Youve already won me over in spite of me" Mary Jane - "Well it's full speed baby in the wrong direction" Ironic - so many classics 'A no smoking sign on your cigarette break" Not the Doctor - "You're a very big boy now , I don't wanna be your mother's Wake up - "Theres no fundamental excuse for the granted I'm taken for" Absolutely a 5 star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The more I think about it the more I realize that this album is a banger. 5/5

I bought this at the time and played it to death. Nowadays it seems this is outdated and even ridiculed. I don't really know where she went but at the time she was powerful and scarey and magnetic. Brilliant lyrics with a powerful message. The music is raucous and jagged (I know) and Ought and Pocket are two of the best songs from the 90s. Brilliant album.

I kinda knew I'd like this, but daaaamn I really feel bad for 13-year-old me that didn't get this recommended on her Pandora stations. Like, she kinda needed this album. I would have had so many mix CDs with Alanis Morissette and Flyleaf side-by-side, ya know? 3 songs in, I knew I was probably going to give this 5 stars.

do I literally stress you out. this album is not perfect enough to me for this rating and yet

Me encantó

One of my favorites

It's a little shocking that I never owned this album. It was squarely in my wheelhouse as a teenage girl in the mid-90s. Maybe I never felt the need to own it because I heard it everywhere. Upon my first real listening of this album, a few decades removed from being a teenager, I am transported to the feelings of angst rooted in contradiction, and the euphoric relief that someone finally said all the things. My favorite line from a review of Jagged, the documentary based on Jagged Little Pill, is that Alanis wasn't just giving concerts — she was a herald, bringing the news about all the things women were not going to be quiet about anymore. This album feels more confessional than angry but I think that makes it even more compelling. Two of my favorite tracks are ones that weren't singles and are therefore new to me, Perfect and Right Through You, and I wonder if part of the reason these cut so deep is that I have gone from being a teenage girl to raising one. I think this album falls off a bit towards the end, but this album still deserves 5 stars for how influential it was. Alanis was a herald in more ways than one. The documentary Jagged makes note of the fact that there was basically a very small quota for the number of female artists getting airtime and they weren't allowed to play female artists back-to-back. Alanis helped open the doors for more female artists to break into the mainstream and my female-artist dominated playlists thank her for that.

I think the first time I heard her sing I thought “what the hell is this?” What is with this yodel-y, ANGRY chick? And then I loved it. It’s some of the bravest singing I had ever heard. And it came at a time that I NEEDED to see a pop star not being perfect, but instead being unabashedly herself. Yesterday I listened and then I almost listened again. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Excellent pop/rock album.

i really enjoyed this album throughout. would definitely listen again. this album barely scrapes a 5 in my opinion as i enjoyed it more than all other albums which i would rate as 4.

What a classic.

This is the first time I have listened to an Alanis album front to back and boy have I been missing out. The first song was a chaotic way to start a debut album, but it worked somehow. Her vocals are *chef’s kiss*. The album made me feel like I lived through the grunge of the 90’s (as not an infant). Will be listening to her discography now.

I didn't technically listen to this whole album today but I think I'm legally obligated to give it 5/5 stars. Alanis knocked it out of the park with this angsty debut and I will always love this album.

Superb

Huge fan

Hailing a taxi cab

Powerful musical story. I love the music and words. Great album

Este trabajo es una joya de los noventa. Hacia tiempo que no escuchaba el disco entero de un tirón y me ha gustado igual o más que cuando me lo compré allá por el año 1996. Este si se merece estar entre los discos más importantes del rock

Cooles Rock-Album

Monster Album. 96 Grammy for Album of the Year, Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all time, 33 MILLION copies sold. hard to find more conclusive indication of "Monster album" . As a Canadian lad who spent his 20's in the 90's, I was literally baptized in these waters. Every song on this album resonates with me, every song has a whole set of memories unique to THAT song. There is a connection to ALL the lyrics, to the sound of her voice, to the rhythm in the track list. I have spent 30+ years of my life spinning records, playing tens of thousands of songs and THIS album easily lands on my "if I only had ten albums on a dessert island". If you were close to 25 in 96, tell me I'm wrong...

Man I underestimated this album. All hitters, what a ride.

Amazing álbum

Absolutely iconic. The soundtrack of the 90s. Raw, emotional, and so honest, and it still hits even now.

Have always liked her voice. Never heard any other songs by her except the two on this album.

This is the sound of my youth. I have loved this album from the first time I heard it. Alanis really seemed to get me with her angst, even though some of the life experiences she sang about were foreign to me.

Jeremy: “YEU YEU YEU… oughta KNOOO”. Queen of the 90s. Easy 5 stars. Ana: Yeah it’s really good, I felt really still then really surprised. Her voice is awesome so good actually. Papa it’s about feelings! I feel it!

This album is honestly incredible. Confessional style, super relatable. It's no wonder it became a hit. Didn't start the style (after Liz Phair, Melissa Etheridge) but definitely perfected it. This is a style of songwriting at it's best and there are like 100 hits on this shit.

I forgot how great this album was! Every song is great!

Absolutely love this album, I played it to death when it came out.

- Was ein geiles Album! - Mein "Geheimtipp": "Right Through You" -> extremes Brett, erinnert sehr an einige Pearl Jam Tracks aus der Zeit. - Flashback gelungen!

- Stilistisch irgendwie Grunge, Pop-Rock, Alternative, Balladen aber nie out of place und immer einfallsreich. 4,75/5

Great album. The anger of the 90s lives in this album and has so many memorable songs.

A powerful Album, its still one of my favorit albums. You don't get bored listening to it.

Everyone “Oughta Know” about this album. I’m “Head Over Feet” feet over this album without the help of “Mary Jane”. It’s a little “Ironic” don’t ya think?

This is one of my top 50 records of all time. It starts so strong and never let's up on hits. Love the 90s feminist angst. Cheesy at points for sure, but sincere and fun. Also I think this every time: I can hear the influence on Evanescence in Forgiven. Is she perverted like me? Will she go down on you in a theater?

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, so there is no hesitation in my rating it 5 stars. The songwriting >>>>, the authentic quality of her voice >>>. Every song is great, but “Forgiven” gives me chills every time. Ugh, I love this album.

Hell yeah

no notes! best cassette I probably ever bought!

Love HER

Classic album. Alanis is THAT girl. 💁🏾‍♀️

oh fuck yeah so angsty and feminine and 90s, i love this shit “are you thinking of me when you fuck her” killed me

Iconic

Peak Toyota Corolla Music, and I'm finally saying that not as a diss. This is the masterwork that every other album in the genre aspires to be, and its quality will probably never be surpassed. The savior of CD-case browsers everywhere, as it bangs and you already know it's gonna be in there before you even open it.

Just a great album, not sure how the singles became the singles as I prefer a lot of the album tracks but even having it on in the background it keeps pulling you back in

This is an album I've been meaning to listen to for a long time. I'm so glad I did! Incredible impeccable alt rock. I love this genre and this is a top 5 album within it.

She's one of the best!

Hall of Fame

One of the greats. I liked every song but 1. Very playable enjoyable album. WOW

One of my favourite albums. Stephanie and I used to listen to it in the car in our early days. Alanis is up there with Björk, Kate Bush, Paula Cole, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell - artists in music. Never careless filler - always an impetus.

Bangers throughout she’s my queen 10/10 5/5

Preteen me was obsessed with this. One of those albums that's hard to judge objectively because of nostalgia, but still really enjoy listening to it.

Classic.

FUCKING FANTASTIC

A bit sappy, but a Blunt take on life

Whole album is excellent!

A tremendous album—at times angsty (“You Oughta Know”), wryly humorous (“Ironic”), and heartbreaking (“Mary Jane”). So many iconic tracks. A truly iconic albums of the nineties that really defines the sound of that era. It reminds me of a favorite album of mine from the 80s: Tracy Chapman’s debut album. This feels like the 90s equivalent, replacing the folky sensibilities for a post-grunge rock sound. It’s the gripping lyrics and unforgettable hooks. And though occasionally I can find Alanis Morissette’s vocals slightly grating, this is undeniably a stellar album.

Perfect.

This is one of my favorite albums. The music is my kind of 90's alt rock with sharp lyrics. Despite her voice not being able to hit all the right notes (All I Really Want), she still pushes herself, creating a very earnest and slightly unhinged recording that lends itself to the subject matter. But then on tracks like 'Mary Jane', her voice soars, proving her control over her artistic vision. Best Songs: Every Track, No Skips Listen Again: Already Owned

Absolute banger 🔥

Iconic album that lets you feel the emotions poured into it.

So good. Brought back memories and just generally slaps. There’s merit to whether some songs dip the quality but this is a classic!

nniiiin hyvä ja nii monta bängeriä en kykene!! täydellinen struttaus levy 🤌🏻🤌🏻 alaniksen ääni on myös vitun smash

Great album. No soft spots.

A classic. Feels like THE 90s grunge/alt album, it just has so much nostalgia. She has such a unique voice and style that cannot be replicated. Best songs are perfect, hand in my pocket, you oughta know (of course), and all I really want.

Love this even more all these years later

horrible

It's a classic. I loved it when it came out and still love it.

When I heard this was going to be turned into a musical I couldn't imagine. Now listening to this the whole way through, it's amazing they didn't sooner.

This is an incredibly perfect record. One of the all-time greatest ever recorded. Every song is a masterpiece.

WOW! 2 back to back 5 stars albums?? Can't say enough of this album. 1995 was an epic year. And of course I can't ever hear this without thinking of Amanda. Those were the golden years. So many memories come flooding back of those day when I hear this. Hard to believe it's already been 28yrs!!

The very best of the 90’s. The first album I ever stole from my older sister.

Classic. Never gets old.

Classic alternative rock album. I don't have much to say it is simply excellent. The lyrics are quite personal and raw in a way with beautiful vocals and instrumentation to compliment. In fact most of these songs were already on my playlist before even listening. The album is well known for a reason and I feel that audiences can greatly relate to the struggles Morissette discusses in her lyrics.

One of my favorite albums. No skips. Top tier debut album.

One of my all-time favorite albums.

Alanis is amazing, love this album.

WOW! Over 33 million copies worldwide? Flea and Dave Navarro in the album? Radiohead as opening act on the album tour? Take my 5 stars please!

A blast from the past

I love this album. You Oughta Know is an all time classic. But this album is loaded. With Hand in My Pocket, Ironic, and Head over Feet all personal favorites.

Love this ablum

Fucking wow!!! Absolute 10/10 from top to bottom. This is actually a masterpiece by Alanis Morissette. Zero filler. All killer.

An excellent album!

listened

Amazing album so many hit songs from this album

Ihan huippu levy! Monta kertaa kuunneltu ja Alanishan on muutenkin itselle idoli. Tähän levyyn on helppo vastaus

A little dated production wise but the songs hold up well. There are some mid-90s bangers with a little filler but not too much. TBF, almost all of these albums had some filler. I’ll go strong 4.5, but round up to 5 like in school.

THE BEST

Has only grown in strength, and like Exile in Guyville is now about the most consequential album of the 90s outside Nevermind. Also I only know my dad owning 3 albums since I was born. The Wall by Pink Floyd, Balance by Van Halen and this. Not sure what to make of that hahaha

Great album, no bad tracks and a few great ones

Sooo goood, took me back to highschool.

A masterpiece!

A ‘90s classic

Fine album

This album gets better and better every time I listen to it. I'm surprised that I appreciated the most not the song I already knew - and usually I do! Amazing vocals! Wow, good job Alanis!

Raw female experiences of Rage (You Oughta Know) Misery (Perfect) Confidence (hand in pocket) Frustration & independence (not a doctor) Optimism (you learn) Layered over grungy 90s vibes. Loved this.

One of my first albums I owned, at age 10. I listened to this album so much. I definitely did not understand the lyrics at the time, but I know all these tracks by heart. I appreciate it even more today.

This album opened my eyes to the talent of Alanis Morissette. I now what what the hype is all about. I was quite familiar 4 or so songs on the album. Her sound defined the 90’s, and inspired so many artists today. I learned of a few songs I’ll go back and listen to again. 5 out of 5, why not.

Classixxxx for the Cathys

Just a great album. Classic Alanis anger

Los años 90 solo pueden entenderse con pocos discos. Uno de ellos es este. Plagado de hits.

So many bangers. Raw 90's goodness

Great album

One of the most powerful albums to rock my generation. This album really has stood the test of time and sounds just as fresh and relevant as when it did when it debuted almost 30 years ago.

Still holds up all these years later.

Like fine wine or cheese this has aged very well! So fun to listen to again.

This is a near perfect album. I love how she makes a squeaky noise when she inhales and you can hear it throughout the album. She's Gasping.

Fucking fantastic

I was eager and highly anticipating this album and it lived up to my expectations. Alanis is probably my all time favorite female singer-songwriter. Her songs and music videos were a huge part of the culture when I was growing up so there is a huge sentimental value to her songs that I have. 5 huge hits on this album. Love it.

So many banger classics. The mix of rage and catchy pop rock is so good.

I’ve heard this album many times, and was more than happy to do so again

Man, I remember how this was written off by so many as just "angry woman" music (including, shamefully, 15 year old me) but as soon as you get past that and listen to it properly it's an all out stormer. You Oughta Know is one of the most perfectly arranged and produced bits of rage. It's got tunes, it's got something to say, it's got light and shade. Everything I want from a 5 star album.

En su tiempo no la soportaba. Pero ...

Slept on this one a s a tewnage boy. Had no interest in her message. What a Masterpiece. Bangers thruought. Great tunes with biting witty lyrics

Listened Before? Y "Do I stress you out? My sweater's on backward and inside out.. and you say "howwwwww aprroppriate"... Fucking Alanis, man. I wore this record out during the 90s and early 2000s. She was a crazy discovery for a guy who was into metal at the time. I used to love her second record more, but I think this one holds up better. Awesome stuff and a timely release for the "American Version" of a young bubblegum pop star from Canada. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Right Through You, All I Really Want

Classic!

Every song on this is great, I wished I heard this in high school.

Takes me back to high school. Though I didn't own it, definitely formative for me. Still holds up.

That's interesting

Perfect. Just the perfect distillation of adolescent angst and catchy pop tunes. The first album in two years of doing this that I listened to twice in a day, because I hadn't quite squeezed every last drop of joy from it. You know how us Catholic girls get.

Everyone and their dog knows Jagged Little Pill. This is a quintessential mid 90’s album filled with hits that dominated tv and radio for a time. Alanis has a force of personality that endeared her to a lot of people with her raw honesty, independent attitude, and voice that demands your attention.

favourites: head over feet; ironic; you oughta know

Cause I got one hand in my pocket, and the other one is typing "poggers". Fire album, we stan our queen Alanis

Not a bad song in sight

There are few better debut albums

Heard before

A perfect album.

With the exception of "All I Really Want," I've heard all of the singles off of this album countless times, but I've never gone through it from start to finish. For my money, this is one of the best albums of the nineties, and in an era full of incredible albums from female solo artists, that's really saying something. As many other reviewers have pointed out, the tone of the guitar parts and percussion on this album are really distinct to the nineties (the best example is on "You Oughtta Know," and the best way I can think to describe it is almost like a shimmering quality), but you could still pick out any part of these songs and easily identify them as Alanis Morissette songs, and I think that's part of what makes them so great. Alanis's vocals are fantastic on this album, and I love how her backing vocals wrap around the main vocals on tracks like "All I Really Want" and "You Learn." Even though every song on this album is great in its own way, from the feminine confidence of "Right Through You," to the soft power of "Mary Jane," the singles are the star of the show here. From the vividly shocking "You Oughtta Know" to the harmonica heavy "Head Over Feet," these songs are incredibly fun to sing along to, and they still haven't lost their power over 25 years later. I know "Ironic" has become kind of a punching bag over the last decade or so, but I'll be damned if there isn't something about that it still makes me feel a sense of shared anxiety with 'Mister-play-it-safe.' "Hand In My Pocket" might be my least favorite of the singles on this album, but I love that it elicits a mental image of Alanis hanging out in Haight Ashbury in the late sixties from me. My favorite track is "You Learn," and I could listen to that backing vocal of 'what a jagged little pill' every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. This is such a fantastic album, and I'm glad I got to start my week with it!

What an amazing album!

Hadn’t listened in full before really, but a classic.

Album of an era

One of the best albums ever produced

Grew up on this album. I know it intimately. Yes that song is about Dave Coulier. Yall can dock it a point all you want but its a 5 from yer boi.

the soundtrack of my junior high years even tho i didn't really understand anything about anything yet

Iconico, bello. Capolavoro.

What a smart, fun, sharp album. Alanis Morissette is so funny. I must have laughed out load a dozen times listening to this. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this so much. At first I thought I’d be annoyed by the affectations she puts on but after the first track I started to get it. She uses the weird intonations and exaggerated pronunciations to punctuate her jokes. It helps shift the tone of the songs and cue the listen to hear the irony and sarcasm in her lyrics. “You Oughta Know” is one of the great ‘fuck you’ songs. There are so many good one-liners in it and her delivery drips with anger and resentment. “Forgiven” is one of the best songs I’ve heard about religion. The chorus is great: “We all had our reasons to be there / We all had a thing or two to learn / We all needed something to cling to / So we did.” There’s definitely a layer of irony there but it’s also surprisingly empathetic. She’s resentful toward the church for saddling her with guilt but she forgives the church. Which is hilarious because forgiveness is also one of the main tenets of Catholicism. What a way to criticize an institution — throwing its own beliefs back in its face! “Ironic” is one of the few songs I don’t love here (the lyrics are a little silly) but man, what a hook! The power of that chorus is irresistible. I can’t believe she was 20 years old when she made this album. The depth of feeling and the complexity of what she’s saying on some of these songs is impressive for any songwriter and she was so young! Side note: Really bad album cover for such a great album.

This album is so incredible. It has some of the best 90s songs of all time on here with "You Oughta Know" "Hand in My Pocket" and "Ironic" but I didn't know it also had "All I Really Want", "You Learn" and "Head Over Feet". I'm really blown away by how many amazing tracks are on this album and I can't believe I forgot how jampacked it is. It's almost like an Alanis Morissette greatest hits record. After realizing this I had to go and update my own personal spreadsheet of top albums that I've been meticulously curating and culling for years (its a very exclusive club). I love the instrumentation from start to end. I love the raw lyrics, I love the emotive "idgaf" but she actually "g's a f" vocal performances with their biting sarcasm and constant playing with inflections that elevate the lyrics that much more. I love hearing this through my studio monitors- what a joy after hearing it only on car speakers / bad stereos for decades. There are so many elements that I'm hearing that I never get the pleasure to experience and hone in on. The bass in "You Oughta Know"... are you kidding me? It is crazy good (despite some moments where it is surprisingly pitchy, like the tremolo 16th notes in the choruses - specifically under the lyrics "mess you left when you went away"). It's so funky and somehow also so full of drive and power. I can't believe I haven't been hearing this element on all of those car rides where this song has been playing. There really isn't anyone who has this sound. It's been tried, I think, but I postulate that something about the sum of her makes it incredibly hard to replicate or even come close to. This is Gab's first CD she ever got. I can't imagine starting your personal music collection with this banger. It's so a 5/5 and I wouldn't be upset if this was on this list twice.

Brilliant album of nonstop awesomeness, until it stops; closing track is a bit average but the rest is excellent. That baseline on You Oughta Know is “chef’s kiss”

Amazing album.every song is great.I like her voice and the heavy instrumentals in the background. Her lyrics can be kind of stupid sometimes though.the song high five is pretty stupid overall but you oughta know is so good it doesn’t matter.

It's still a great rock/alternative album that evokes a moment in time in music. Plenty of songs, plenty of anger and passion. Definitely in the top 20% of albums I've listened to so far.

C'est vraiment un album de sa génération et j'ai tellement entendu cela joué quand j'étais jeune que je vois mal mettre autre chose qu'un 5. Très bon

What is an album!! There isn’t a bad song on there, no fillers, no half measures. Every single track is brilliant. It’s easy to see why it’s still very popular and even in 2023 sounds very modern. An album that will go down as an absolute classic And will continue to influence musicians for years to come

So many songs I've heard before just in pop culture, never knew where they came from. She was 21 when making this album?! dang! Very good overall

One of the greatest albums of all time

My middle school years. While Alanis was never my type of teenage angst, the album has cemented itself right where it belongs in the vast catalog of must-listen albums from the '90s.

Complicated, aggressive.

Once again, the sounds of my youth.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette. Now here's an album that's stood the test of time. Now, when I first heard this album, I was like, "Whoa, what is this? Is this a breakup album? Is this an empowerment album? Is this a therapy session on a disc?" But then I realized, it's all of the above, baby! From the moment "All I Really Want" starts, you know you're in for a wild ride. Alanis has got some serious feelings she wants to share, and she's not holding back. "You Oughta Know" is the ultimate breakup anthem, and let's just say, if I ever broke up with Alanis, I would be scared to listen to this song. Like, seriously scared. But it's not all anger and angst. "Hand in My Pocket" is a feel-good bop that makes me want to dance around in my underwear. But my favorite track on the album has got to be "Ironic", as yours should be too. It's a classic sing-along that reminds us that sometimes life just likes to mess with us. How's that for relatable? Overall, Jagged Little Pill is a great frickin' album. It's raw, it's honest, and it's catchy as hell. If you haven't listened to it in a while, do yourself a favor and give it another spin. And if you're going through a breakup, you oughta know: Alanis has got your back.

Dated, but like, in a good way.

I was 14 when this came out and I still remember every word. I am the perfect demographic for this album and it shows. Love love love.

She truly has an iconic voice that resonates throughout the album. Her emotions can be felt throughout the body and you jam along to You Oughta Know with the spite she has, even if you haven’t experienced something like that before. I also didn’t realize how many of her hits were on this album, great listen!

Still great. You oighta now, Ironic and Hand in my pocket, still top rock of the 90s.

Epic album. Amazing

This album just did too much to define a musical movement, a generation, to get anything less than a 5. My favorite has long been “Mary Jane,” with “Ironic” and “You Oughta Know” close behind. I loved revisiting this album and I played it loud in the car as nostalgia washed over me.

I was resistant to give this a 5 because I'm sort of embarrassed about how much I love this album. But Mike's right, it's iconic. It's a 5.

I think this is an absolute belter of an album. I love Alanis Morissette's voice. I think the lack of ironic things in the song Ironic have unfairly hampered Alanis' respect as an excellent artist.

I think this might be the most definitive album of the entire 1990s? It certainly evokes what the 90s *felt* like more than any other album, for me. If I had to knock it for something, it would be that a lot of the songs are a bit same-y. Similar tempos, rhythms, and musical compositions. But it's a winning formula and I never got sick of it. Probably closer to 4 than 5, but I've had some really dogshit albums for almost 2 weeks straight, so I'm high on this right now!
