alta mierda
Björk onnistuu luomaan tekotaiteesta oman taiteenlajinsa: mitä kiemuraisempi biisi, sitä syvällisemmältä vaikuttaa kiemuroiden alle piiloutuva substanssi. Tämä ratkaisu ei puhuttele minua lainkaan esteettisellä, älyllisellä saati musiikillisella tasolla. Ei nappaa - päinvastoin. Mutta älä anna sen häiritä omaa kietoutumistasi.
It's a bit much. On her older albums the wailing voice was kind of a novelty and something that she used carefully. This album features heavy use of that voice and it gets old pretty quickly. It's fun if there is a touch sprinkled here and there but overuse is tiresome. The cover photo is pretty cool though.

Same as Bowie. Probably extra harsh, but it’s a chore to listen to.
Definitely not a Björk fan, and scared of what two of her albums in less than a week will do to my Spotify Wrapped. I can appreciate the vocal skill and talent that Björk has and in the background vocalists, but that’s really about it. Somewhat intriguing to listen to, but I don’t need to listen to it again. Kinda want to give this a two to keep Nick Cave as my least liked artist, but I can’t make myself do it.

Im sorry but I will never understand the hype around her. No amount of listening will get me to like her, and both her voice and style are something I will never get behind. This was painful and I hate her voice Im so sorry. If I never had to listen to her again I would be happy.
I've always thought Björk was overrated. I don't think this album changes my mind. Lots of wailing and vocalizing. Even when there are lyrics, there is lots of wailing and vocalizing.
In general I'm good with Bjork...this album doesn't do it for me though. Too out there. 1/5

I find this music quite annoying. It's more talking and changing the tone of the voice instead of singing. And then it's very cacophonous as well (in a bad way), but I probably just don't get it...
There was maybe one or two listenable songs on this record. While yes, it is cool to do a vocal only album, this absolutely does not work. It is obnoxious to get through from beginning to end.

If you had asked me before I started this project what I thought of Bjork I probably would have said "I don't really listen to her, but I'm sure her music is fine." This is my third Bjork album on this list, and it had sharpened my hatred into a heightened sense, like how blind people often report having enhanced hearing or smell. However, my heightened sense of hate just makes my tolerance for Bjork's music non-existent. Short review: I got about 7 minutes i to this and fucked right out of there. Nope.
I wish I could give this a 0. Ancestors is a war crime.

I’ve had a couple Bjork albums in the past and was neutral or ambivalent about them. But this one was a struggle for me to get through, and I only made it about halfway before I had to switch to something else to save my patience. I finished it later in the day, by the skin of my teeth. I really don’t like music where it’s mostly just singing and very little instrument sound. At times, there was no background music at all. It was like nails on a chalkboard for me.
I wonder if it is art or something for the trashcan. I tried realy hard, but after the second title, my headaches got too strong to continue listening. sorry.

It’s won’t let me do less than 1 star. Bonkers album, not in a good way either. Ancestors on this album is the single worst thing ever documented by a human. It’s a panic attack in audio form. Fair play to Biork though, what a way to make a living!

Never got the whole Björk thing, so let’s see how we go. First couple of tracks are her (I assume) classic weird vocal stuff. Track 3 has a bit of a beat and sounds like a trance version of The Frog Chorus. Decent. Who Is It is also quite good - it’s the first track that resembles an actual song anyway. When her tunes have a beat and a modicum of structure, they aren’t bad and are interesting in a beard-scratchy way. But so many of her tracks sound like Kate Bush warbling over a shit Massive Attack B-side. I just don’t get it, but I respect it. I like weird shite, but her shite is just too weird. Her level of popularity seems completely out of whack with the mad music she makes. You do you babes, doesn't mean I have to like it. Highlights: Where is the line, Who is it, Triumph of the heart (Those highlights read like a night of overdoing bad chisel)
Say what you want… Experimental…Original…Ambitious…Imaginative…Creative… It may be all of that, but not in a good way. To me me it’s just plain weird and horrible. Not enjoyable at all.

I couldn’t really stand this tbh. Had a hard time listening to really any of it. I understand why it’s cool, and why music nerds would like it, but it just wasn’t enjoyable for me. Which is the most important thing when it comes to music I enjoy.

I don't know why I had never heard of or been warned about Bjork until I started this record club, but this is the second album they've sent by her. They say she's got a following in Europe. Good. My buddy Robert recalled a review he read a while ago, "Bjork is who you can picture naked and alone in the woods, singing to the trees." "Bjork sounds like a disenchanted emo witch, lamenting the world through music that appeals to others that also feel disenfranchised from the world."

This starts with some weird breathing noises on the first track and doesn't get any better from there on. Her voice is so grating, especially on the tracks where it's mostly vocals. By the end, I wanted to bash my head against a brick wall as I thought I might get more enjoyment than listening to Björk. But in all seriousness, I think someone should check on Björk because she definitely isn't ok.

Bad album. I'm not sure if I'm a Bjork fan generally, but this album is firmly bad in my opinion. It's weird guttural a cappella singing that I find irritating. I'm not sure I get the critical acclaim here (though I'm not surprised with the pretension from critics or groupthink around this being a really brave, interesting, and/or groundbreaking album). To each their own. Maybe I'm too middlebrow to understand. *

Bjork is incredibly unique. There are some songs I've really enjoyed in the past, but overall has never been my style. This album doesnt represent what I like about Bjork and I didnt recognize any songs. Her voice is also unique which is really cool, but it can go from buttery magic in one track to nails on a chalkboard on the next track. Hope to hear more Bjork down the line but I disliked this album specifically.

This is probably too experimental for my mood. It's a bit jarring but there's some good songs on this album. The creativity is off the charts with the approach of each song. Enjoyability is more variable.
The concept of jurassic park has scientists, geniuses in their respective fields, create something in defiance of nature. A huge feat and worthy of praise. Bjork has always seemed an artist's artist. Genius in her field, worthy of praise. As a normal Joe though I am left wondering the JP quote "did you ever think you should" make this album. A-capella as a choice is impressive but felt like it died years ago for a reason.

Not quite sure if the presence of a drum machine caused the seizure towards the end of the album. I do appreciate the risks taken by Björk, but it didn't work out this time.
Just recently had a bjork album and it wasn’t that bad. Now my second one and I can wonder is what kind of hallucinogenic trip she went on to make this chanting noise of an album. This was pretty terrible to listen to. No thanks 1.6/10
I never thought that a cappella-based trip-hop could be so irritating. I guess it deserves praise for the production and its apparent influence, but I won't pretend that her voice doesn't grind my ears.

No se cómo un álbum tan pretensioso puede ser tan malo sin darse cuenta. Parece algo que una niña de 14 años haría la primera vez que descubrió FL Studio. La única que se podría llegar a salvar sería Triumph of a Heart, pero haber pasado por todo lo demás para saberlo fue una tortura. Este es el segundo álbum de Bjork que escucho y parece que va de mal en peor.

Bjork heeft mij behalve in de krankzinnig depressieve film Dancer in the Dark nooit weten te boeien. Er zijn wat techno/dance tracks waarin haar stem geweldig is, maar dit album is bijna onluisterbaar voor mij.
I am determined to make it through this album. But I am 6 tracks in and it is not easy. Closest I've come to turning an album off so far Update: I've made it. My God that was painful. Favorite track: Desired Constellation
Too avant-garde for my tastes
What a truly awful album for me. Some songs could have been ok but she puts weird sounds over them. Harmonies were obnoxious lyrics were... odd... i finally got to a semi decent track only to find my spotify went to a similar artist after the Album was done. I am now upset because I'll never get that 45 minutes and 45 seconds back.

Ugh. Bjork. I cannot fathom what the draw here is. There's no structure to any of these songs. They're just weird for the sake of being weird. And her warbling baby-talk voice is literally maddening. Hate it so much. In fact, I hated everything about this experience. Everything. Zero stars isn't an option, so one will have to do.
The best songs are the ones in Icelandic, because then you don't have to be burdened by understanding what she's saying (I kinda want to look up the lyrics to Desired Constellation, but I'm too young to have a stroke). Then again, they're also usually the ones where she decides to howl or something. I tried. Best track: Vakuro
