I mean, it’s pretty cool. That’s last song works and theirs some stuff in between that’s really great- but for this to be a 5er, some fats gotta get trimmed. I’ll def listen to it again tho
Background music. I got distracted.
Can't Wait no me ha gustado nada. Y Highlands tampoco.
Gritty and funky, sad and even silly at time – a true career renaissance after 29 records and a stage setter for the sprawling and even weirder work to come in the decades that followed. There's a direct link from this record to Rough and Rowdy Ways! I'm a Lanois fan and love the atmospherics, but get the criticism of some of the production choices. Several of these songs that I turn to time and again, but a few mehs make me round down to 4 from 4.5. Maybe a slightly shorter record would have been better.
Not Dark Yet is an all time classic, rest is good but the blues/roots stuff gets weary
It’s a genuine thrill to hear comeback Dylan sounding as poetic as ever with a fine backing band and some tracks (Not Dark Yet) as good as anything he’s ever written. But the production is lousy, losing the vocals in too much echo, rendering Dylan’s voice as just one more instrument in the mix, depriving us of the subtleties, emotions and imperfections in his voice. Still, not enough to spoil a fine album, and interesting to hear a mellower, maturer Dylan.
Brilliant apart from the last song which goes on forever.
Who knew, later Bob Dylan's voice is less irrtating than early Bob Dylan
75 albums in and this is the first Dylan I've been given. Interesting that it is relatively recent. I saw Dylan in concert in the late 80's, one of my favorite (at the time) bands was opening for him at the concert venue where I worked for a summer. I actually took the night off so I could just watch. I also remember Rod Stewart, though I only heard that one since I was working. Which I mention only because I was just served Every Picture Tells a Story. Anyway, let's check out 90's Bob. First impression: sounds like Bob Dylan but better. Obviously he's always been a consummate songwriter but his voice cut a little too sharp. Not on this album. That edge has been blunted by, one would presume, pain and years and love gone wrong. I don't think I've heard any of these songs before. But they all speak to me. Especially Standing in the Doorway. It's not dark yet, but it's getting there.
I know Bob Dylan isn't for everyone but I'm a huge fan and his lyricism is undeniable. His songs never fail to make me feel. He is an American folk icon for a reason and this wasn't even my favorite of his albums. Outstanding songwriting and moving music
I enjoyed the album. It was a bit long for my taste, but I liked this better than some of the popular Bob Dylan songs out there. Very chill.
never really got the Dylan hype, but this was great!
Morat ću opet poslušat da obratim više pažnje na stihove, ovo šta sam čula je stvarno za poistovjetit se u danima kad se ne osjećaš baš najbolje, izgleda da smo svi slični, čak slični i Bobu Dylanu!!
I am NOT a Boy Dylan fan but this is a great album!
A really good late period album from Bob Dylan that showcases fantastic songwriting throughout. Folk music can be hit or miss for me, but this is one of the better ones. Favorites: "Standing in the Doorway", "Trying to Get to Heaven", "Make You Feel My Love"

7/10
Nice. Dylan is an enigma to me. But, I really enjoyed this album.
Great Dylan showing us he transcends his 60s era and can still create hits. True renaissance man. Fun to see the Adele song was actually a cover.
3.5
Really like his raspy voice and song writing. It is quite a dark album but a very enjoyable listen. "Make You Feel My Love" is a beautiful song.
Liked Cold Irons Bound the most
One of the wildest things about this album is it’s only from 1997 and since then “Make You Feel My Love” has been a charted hit for Garth Brooks, Billy Joel and Adele! Fave tracks : “Love Sick” “Trying to get to heaven” “Make You Feel My Love”
I never really dug deep into Dylan's catalog. My default impression of his music has always been the incoherent, beatnick/hippie, campfire folk vibe. I liked some of his songs, but wouldn't have considered myself a "fan" of his. This album may have changed that. It's actually a really solid dirty blues/folk album and - while he still sounds like he has gauze in his mouth all the time - his vocals are well suited to the genre. He mentions in "Highlands" that he listens to Neil Young - I'd say that influence is evident here, but still 100% Bob Dylan. Standing in the Doorway, Not Dark Yet, Cold Irons Bound, and Can't Wait were standouts for me.
Ok, I've already listened to many songs from Dylan and I always liked them. Using this list, I noted how much he is important for the music industry and for the music evolution in the last decades, even don't find anything perfect for me from his discography yet. This album is by far the best one until now. A little bit long for my taste, but a great piece of songwriting with great music.
The year this album came out, I went on a long road trip around the Southwest of the USA. Wish I'd known about it then. Not that it would have made much difference, since the rental didn't have a CD player.
I was pleasantly surprised. Big fan of Dylan's earlier stuff, I didn't have very high expectations, but actually, this is a really solid album. I'm now a big fan of his more recent stuff too.
Era este: me gusta aunque no lo entienda como irle a las chivas
Lækkert blues rock. Slidt stemme som lyder som Tom Waits
Not a huge Dylan fan, but I really enjoyed this.
Yeah, like this - sounds a bit more noir, a bit more cinematic than your usual Dylan. Even a bit Tom Waits in places! Fave track - "Not Dark Yet" was good - think I need to go with "Love Sick" overall though, that's a great album opener...
Delicious. Who has pieces like Not Dark Yet or Make You Feel My Love that far in their careers? Dylan, that’s who.
Classic Dylan. I had never listened to this before or was aware of many of the songs, maybe this is because they are ones that don't get dragged out into the hit parade. I had no idea it was from the mid-90s as some of the songs are comparable to his best. One to listen to again in a mellow moment
Excellent thru and thru!
4.5 The thing is - traditionally, you’re supposed to listen to Bob for the words. I find myself lost in the band despite the fact that the songs are mostly mid-tempo and fairly similar in overall feel. (Which makes "To Make You Feel My Love" kinda stand out...) I like Bob Dylan, but I’m not what most would say is a fan - but I really dig this album overall. It’s another first listen for me.
this isn't a bad album, but i was a bit disappointed given what i've come to expect from Bob Dylan. the most glaring issue is how rough his voice was by 1997 lmao, but additionally i felt that the songwriting was a lot more generic. the lyrics weren't bad by any means, but i wanted more of that classic Dylan wittiness, without which the protracted pieces feel particularly prolonged. 7/10
8/10. Good overall, really long, and started out a bit weak in my opinion. I am not sure how his production quality is still so low in the 90's, but I guess he found his style and he's sticking to it.
Last song was unnecessarily long and I didn’t enjoy the Tom Waits growl that Dylan used in some songs, but it was decent. 8/10
Solid album by Bobby D
Wow - really good album, in fact the first Bob Dylan album where the majority of tracks havn't given me a migraine. Lovely bluesy tunes. Would recommend
Ik dacht dat zijn nieuwe werk niet zo boeiend zou zijn, maar blij verrast met dit plaatje.
Pretty good. Need at least one more listen.
eegraet
cool relax
Typical Dylan, good album. MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE originates here!
Found a few classics on here — a good intro to Dylan
Dylan becomes the grizzled old blues singer he always wanted to be. This has the themes of the Leonard Cohen album from earlier, but whereas Cohen made that album then died, Dylan made this in 97 and is still alive. I like it, I love Dylan, but I think I’d rather be listening to the blues that inspired it. Favourite track: “Not Dark Yet”
There are some really nice tracks here, and I especially liked "Standing in the Doorway", but overall it's not my favorite work from Dylan.
Bob is the man
It's Not Dark Yet is an absolutely beautiful song. Dylan is someone I have appreciated without going to the well, so was glad to hear an album of his I'd never heard. I also enjoyed Love Sick, Standing in the Doorway, Can't Wait and Cold Irons Bound. 4
The 5th time Dylan was able to make a come back album and have it rock the music world, especially with it's mortality based lyrics.
Vinha para este álbum com preconceito e receio, porque ouvi o Bringing It All Back Home e achei um álbum irritante e fraco. Destaco o Love Sick. Nota: 7/10 04/06/2024
Enjoyed listening to the album, with some classic songs in there, and would listen again.
I've never listened to any Bob Dylan outside of the 60s and 70s. I really liked this. Looks like the 80s aren't worth my time, but need to check out more of his later work.
Very good
I can see why Dylan wasn't happy with the production but good god this man can do blues and make country actually palatable, dark and brooding. Still feels like he inspired and influenced in a huge way, reminds me of Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Mountain Goats and more. Make You Feel My Love is stunning
Like it. A bit indulgent with song lengths though!
Un classic!
Lejos de sus obras maestras pero el mejor los posteriores. Un Dylan más envejecido y con una voz más ronca, pero con un sonidocavernoso y buenas canciones.
Un bon album comme tout ceux ou presque de Dylan 4.25*
goes on abit, but still knows how to write a tune. the last song is pretty funny very dark melancholic themes throughout
I'm listening to Time out of Mind by Bob Dylan. It's difficult to really 'rate' an album such as this. A towering figure in music for so many years, it's hard to find a place to begin. Maybe I can start in the most superficial way possible. The songs are pleasing and I really enjoyed the first track. I recall this album coming out and listening to it at the time. I revisit Dylan fairly often and I have not returned to this one as of yet. It's pretty universally well reviewed. People talk about his voice and he is sometimes dismissed off-hand because of how he sounds. This happens to Neil Young as well. I love both artists and enjoy taking them exactly how they are with their distinct voices. I'm enjoying this very much. I'm not worrying too much about the entirety of Dylan's career when thinking about this current album. The general idea is that it's a return to form, or one of the better later period Dylan albums to come along. 'Trying to get to heaven' is a mid album highlight, and a nice accompaniment to another cube farm pandemic Monday. As the album finishes up, I'm saying I very much enjoyed it - though when jumping back into Dylan the next time, it probably wont be this.
better than i expected, really relax but it was good
Great stuff
I enjoyed the album, I have listened to ~Dylan before and considered him a bit of a drone, but this was better than me.
How can you deny Bob Dylan!
I appreciate the lack of harmonica but it's just a bit whatever
bob titty is still not my thing

felt incredibly bored. made me doubt whether i actually liked listening to bob dylan or not. not a bad album necessarily but i definitely like his older stuff better.
I hadn't heard much about Dylan's later career, but this was really decent.
6/10 Bueno, ninguna locura. Se hizo medio largo y repetitivo pero no es malo
better than the last one but every song was just so long, and I never want to listen to this ever again. ever. I wish I wasn't a bob dylan hater but his voice makes me angry and I don't think it will grow on me. appreciated the lack of harmonica. the only reason I knew this album was over was when a new song began with that cursed instrument
I have trouble believing this is Bob Dylan. It doesn't sound like him much at all. I guess age has fixed his annoying vocals and turned him from a whiney folk baby into a gravely blues singer. I almost wanna give this a 4, but I've been burned by Bob way too much. And once again. We did NOT need the 7-9 different Dylan albums on this list. Branch out more. get creative, there's more out there than just Dylan and Bowie.
Not my favorite Dylan; a little harsh and a little long. Wasn’t the best but is still pretty good. Also not many standouts.
“Time Out Of Mind” is easily the best Bob Dylan album on this list so far (this is his fourth for me). Some of his 60s work sounds so dated now, but this has a slightly more modern feel. The vocals are much better than the older stuff too. It’s not all good though. Most of the songs are far too long, unnecessarily so. The album could easily be 20 minutes shorter and not lose any value. I think a lot of people think they have to like Bob Dylan’s music because it’s the hipster way and therefore I normally approach with a lot of cynicism, but I’ll try anything once and this was a pleasant surprise.
A little lounge singer-y, a little classic Dylan, a little Wilbury Dylan. Not bad for a late era album.
Dylan singing the blues in a surprisingly good late career piece.
A: Började bra, sådä vardagsrumssöndagmorgonkaffekoppihandengulagardinerosolenskiner type vibe. Blev dock sämre hela tiden men gillade jättemycke början av albumet, sådär Leonard Cohen o Bruce Springsteen lunga låtar mash up. Visste int att Let you feel my love var hans. Intressant.
Eh, could be good to listen to with my dad
Bob Dylan in 1997 sounds older than most albums from the 1930s. That's the point. Time Out of Mind is a record about being worn out, and Lanois produced it to match — dusty, slow, like something dug up rather than recorded. It works as a room. Put it on, let it sit. Nothing demands your attention and nothing outstays its welcome. 3/5 — good background, better than expected.
If you don't pay attention to the lyrics (which I don't), then most of this album is quite repetitive. That can be a good thing because some tracks have a really good feel to them, like "Love Sick", "Million Miles", and especially the cool "Cold Irons Bound". On the other hand, it sometimes gets boring (my oh my, 16-minute closer "Highlands"). All in all, I enjoyed this much more than 1960s only-voice-and-guitar Dylan. 3/5 - good
easy listen, not my fav bob tho.
If Blonde on Blonde is considered Bob Dylan's most important album, then this is his most significant comeback album. In the '80s, the artist vacillated between genres, and from the early '90s onward, he didn't record a single original song, contenting himself with covers. And the album is actually quite good, if you enjoy classic American blues. The genre's familiar melancholic lyrics about fate and women are spot on, along with the overall foggy, overcast atmosphere. Dylan's aged voice, surprisingly, isn't all that bad, and its raspy sound is even suitable for the genre. The album also features the artist's traditional ending: sixteen minutes of the lyricist trying to fend off the advances of a waitress who asks him to draw her portrait. There was probably more to the lyrics, but I didn't remember it because the song quickly faded into background music. Just like the entire record, by the way.
Careful blues.
Dylan's swan song?? I've never listened to this, but i'm happy I got to. The juxtaposition to his work earlier on is stark, very much so "I've seen some shit and here is what you should know", album. 3.5
This one is good, but not quite to the level of Dylan's best work. The songs are all lyrically strong, but few compositions quite reach the heights of Bob Dylan's older work. I think his voice does serve these darker songs well, though. This is still very good music, but unfortunately it is impossible to listen to without comparing it to very great music. Favorite track: "Not Dark Yet"
Interesting album, enjoyed listening too, but not my favorite. Three stars.
Dylan still seduces on this album, 35 years into his career, a man now in late middle age. His voice is worse for wear but his songwriting and playing are still wonderful. The songs find him more romantic, more yearning and vulnerable than as a youth. In general, it was nice for a Sunday afternoon, with a couple tunes grabbing more attention than others. Still, it’s high 3 for me, given that I don’t think I’d really spin it that much.
Definitely not Dylan's greatest.
Another Bob Dylan album. 2.5.
Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5
A rebirth for Dylan but a far from perfect one, with a little too much rambling (the he-said, she-said of Highlands, come on) and a muddy sound. That said, there’s more than a handful of songs worthy of giving his career a second wind.
This was a bit darker than usual and I liked it better than most I have heard from Dylan.
Meh I don’t get bob dylan. Songwriting is good and didn’t know Make you Feel my Love was a remake.
I like this album, but it is far from the best thing Dylan put out. The big standout is Not Dark Yet, which I’ve always found to be a beautiful song. There are some other decent tracks, but none of it really holds up to his older work.
I got very into Dylan when I was 14/15 years old. I had at least 10 of his albums on CD, but I never got around to this one. I was familiar with, and really enjoyed, Not Dark Yet and of course I knew Make You Feel My Love, so I was excited to finally listen to this whole record. I absolutely love the beautiful ballads on here but some of the more basic bluesy tracks get repetitive quickly. Right now this is a 3/3.5 and not one of my favorite Dylan records, but it may grow in my estimation over time.
Bob Dylan innit. Not one I know but older, raspy, bluesy Dylan is not bad at all.
Not Dark Yet and Make You Feel My Love are the standouts here. The majority of this album is Dylan in Frogman Mode, though, which I'm not a huge fan of.
Not my introduction to Bob, but definitely the first contemporary release I was aware/a part of. It’s wild how at the time this was his old man on death’s door album and now nearly 30 years later it’s just a middle-aged comeback! It’s pretty good but also feels a bit corny. The arrangements and instrumentation Lanois and co contribute really stand out and Bob is...not entirely believable to me.
Surprisingly good for "past his prime" Dylan. Songs and lyrics aren't anything ground breaking and border generic but I really like the gravel that took over his voice instead of being all nasal. Make thisba little shorter in run time and its pretty solid.
Bob Dylan being himself. Dunno
I was worried when I got a Dylan album from well past his prime. I thought his voice would be the unintelligible grumbling it is now, but it’s in nice shape here. I’ve always defended young Bob’s voice, and I really like the grit and texture that his age gave him here. I love the dark, stripped back instrumentation. This album has some absolutely great songs on here, but there are others that could be trimmed or cut, and I think that the album could have been better for it. One song that surprised me was Make You Feel My Love, it has an 80’s ballad quality that I liked quite a bit. On the opposite end, Highlands has no business being both 16 minutes long and the closer. 3/5
pushing it a little bit with the lengths of a lot of the songs, but makes up for it by being overall comprised of good listens. 6/10 FAVOURITE SONGS: LOVE SICK, TRYIN' TO GET TO HEAVEN, NOT DARK YET, COLD IRONS BOUND
just bob dylan isnt it like how many of his albums are even in here
Well, not too bad. I listened to the whole thing without cringing. Should I boost the score? Sure, why not. 3 stars. Congratulations to internationally recognized musician Bob Dylan.
I thought I was over Bob Dylan, but this caught my attention. It's not love at first listen, but I do hope to revisit this album.
Every track starts off interesting and then severely outstayed its welcome so I don't really know what I think. Could have been a 2 on another day.
I'm still getting into Dylan, and don't feel I'm ready to jump into his 90s work 'cause I don't have enough understanding to be able to appreciate it. I haven't even done Blood On The Tracks yet. I'll be back if/when I get the formative stuff done first.
Fav song: Make You Feel My Love
Ni tan mal
I don’t really vibe with bob, but songwriting is obviously good 6/10
Overall: 6/10 This isn't an incredible showcase of Bob Dylan's songwriting, but it has enough going on to keep your attention. It's better than a lot of the late stage Dylan albums (this is almost 30 years old, that's nuts!). I really don't like how his voice has sounded since the 80s. Fav Song: Cold Irons Bound
For me the voice is too gimmicky over several songs and some are good, but casual background songs. Also thought that some would be better as a cover (Adele then proved it).
When music critics review a new Bob Dylan album they often describe it as “his best work since Time Out of Mind” distinguishing 1997 LP as his late, last fit of genius. I think describing it as “one of his great works” might be taking things a bit far, but it’s true that it’s a very beautiful record and a proud accomplishment for any artist over 30 years into their career. The songs here are very chilled out, very touching, very soulful. Being familiar with his records from the last 15 years has inoculated me from any craggliness in his voice, it all sounds very natural to me. He sounds like an old master.
Bob gets a solid 3 for me on this one. I love the Lanois production (i always do) but i’m not sure meandering suits Bob that well. There are some moments of mid-tempo, mid-life magic but a few too many moments of staleness, the last track is most guilty of this at a bloated plodding 15 mins.
I've never fully understood the appeal of Dylan. That being said I liked this more than I thought I would.
He’s solid in this album but he doesn’t have the best of vioces
Not sure older dylan is for me
Сара 3,5 Марко 3,5
Not huge on the new stuff
Like it 3/5
So Dylan had this in his till tool kit the whole time? Lyrically solid, and such far more interesting music than his usual.
Meh.
This website is trying to make me a Bob Dylan fan
why does the original "make you feel my love" sound so mocking
Dylan really is one of the greatest songwriters, just not the best singers. Some amazing stuff here and some not so good. A fairly background album, but enjoyable.
As always a whole album of Bob Dylan (especially with 70 minutes running-time) is slightly too much for me. Mainly because of "Make You Feel My Love" I give it the three stars. 2,5
Bob, please don’t put a 16 min song at the end of the album. Cheers! I’m know he’s made worse records… I’m know he’s made better ones too.
Rambling lyrically. Not Bluesy enough while lacking the signature Dylan sound. 2.8/5
This is my 5th Bob Dylan album and I am 383 albums in. Dylan is really hard for me to rate. I know that he is super important in music history and that he ushered in a new era when he became a rock n roll act and was no longer just a folk singer. Sadly I do not appreciate his poetry or his singing. I love his songs when sung by other people. This album was much better to me than 3 of the other 4 that I have listened to on this challenge. I like Live at Albert Hall more than this one because of the backing band (The Band). This album is better to me than Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks and Highway 61 revisited because his voice is older and less grating to my ears.
Mojo, Uncut etc went mad for this at the time. I guess there hadn’t been new Dylan for awhile. It’s a solid despatch from Planet Bob.
Pretty mid Bob
Passable from Bob
Excruciantemente longo, eternamente longo, longo demais. Outro disco do Bob Dylan, e ainda estou esperando o momento mágico que tudo vai clicar. Ainda não clicou, mas deu uma melhorada, não sinto a total repulsa com este álbum como senti com alguns outros. A voz dele é difícil. 3/5
Bob Dylan is as Bob Dylan does
Robbie Zimmerman’s mellow Soul blues. In the first half I felt it didn’t add much of note to Dylan’s catalogue, with mostly basic blues tracks. But later part of the album offers some contrasts with tracks such as cold irons bound, featuring a reverbed pedal steel guitar and a distorted swampy sounding Hammond organ over a rockabilly beat, and make you feel love with BD playing an intimate piano backed by an upright bass and organ. The latter could have been mistaken for one of Elton’s ballads except for Dylan’s rasp of a voice. So it’s a fair effort for a man who’s already 30years into his career by then and not much left to reinvent. Three stars
I haven’t listened to much of Bob Dylan, so that might explain my surprise putting this on and hearing a straight up blues record. He’s obviously older than how he sounds in earlier works, but his whole approach here sounds like a totally different artist to me. In a good way. 3.6/5.0
Ez nem tetszett annyira
Interesting comparison to Blonde on Blonde (which popped up here for me 2 days ago), Bob older, wearier and wiser. Daniel Lanois is the real key to the magic on this I reckon - the atmosphere is amazing, each instrument has a perfect place in the mix, with Bob's lyrics still given heaps of room to cut through. Some of the songs are still great, definitely miles ahead of any of his releases in the 80s or 90s, I remember being surprised he still had it in him, but I guess like Johnny Cash and others, the 90s was the time for those sort of revivals. It does drag though - 70+ minutes of slowly wheeled out late period Bob is too much for me by the end.
Found it a pretty nice listen surprisingly. Some of the bluesy songs weren't as interesting for me.
not my fav dylan
It's Dylan, but at a much slower pace than usual and completely mellowed out.
I’m a Dylan hater (or just find his music does nothing for me). Entirely forgettable apart from learning that one of Adele’s song is a cover of a late track on here. Made more tolerable by imagining Slinky Dog from Toy Story was singing this album to me instead of Dylan.
This is the modern (a.k.a 30 years ago) Dylan album I am least familiar with. Went well on a Sunday afternoon while scrubbing dishes. May come back to it, may not. Life is relentless.
Not sure about this one, can't make up my mind
good songs but honestly voice bugged me at some bits, something to revisit but not often
I started listening this album while I was busy running errands in town and listened to the second half at home. Well it is not the kind of music to listen to in the town on noisy buses. It's soothing and calm, the songwriting is good and his voice got better with his age. It's not an album I will regularly revisit but was a pleasant enough listen.
I liked the first half of this album more than I thought I would. The bluesy stuff was great. It's shame, but 'Highlands' killed it for me. Who wants to listen to Bob Dylan singing for 16.5 minutes about nothing? Nobody. When I got to minute 10, the words of my 16 year old daughter came to mind: 'Bro - this is low-key pissing me off'.
Time Out Of Mind is easily the best Bob Dylan album i have heard so far. It just really went to show that Dylan kept refining his craft over his career. I thought that this album was really well produced and it's a shame that Bob Dylan didn't like the sound of this album because i think it sounds far nicer and clearer than anything he has done in the past (at least, the albums i heard released prior to this). The songs here were also really nice and generally very relaxing to hear, especially Make You Feel My Love which in a lot of ways, makes me think of John Grant's Silver Platter Club (I love that song so i definitely like this one too). Granted this album is a long one but it is still solid. Best Song: Make You Feel My Love Worst Song: Highlands
Not heard this one before. Interesting but not captivating.
It feels like Bob is resting on his laurels a bit here. The songs are good, don't get me wrong, but they aren't as iconic or interesting always as songs from his classic era. That being said, still worth a listen even if your not a Dylan completions.
I didn't know that this is where Make You Feel My Love comes from. I like Adele's version more, of course. I liked this album. I'm probably not going to re-listen, but I understand why it's included on this list
I like Bob Dylan
Plodding.
Bien, pero el Dylan no es muy de mi agrado, nada personal.
Didn’t listen super carefully but this is just okay as far as Dylan goes. Good vibe though.
How nice of him to try and cover Adele.
I liked this album a lot more than I was expected. I like his gravelly, older voice. And the original of Make You Feel My Love was fantastic! I’m ashamed to say I didn’t realised that was a Dylan song.
Please stop making me listen to Bob Dylan. Is good stuff is great but else is a big bowl of ok
I'm pretty surprised at how much I actually liked this album. The song style and the overall sound really worked for me. I find it funny that Dylan actually didn't like the sound of the album after it was released; not surprised. 3/5
Didn’t think I’d like this but I did
Bit of a back and forth album. Some songs are engaging and some are meandering. I liked this, but it could have been better. 3.5/5 Might listen again
Sir, a second Dylan impression has hit the album challenge.
Alright, Bob, you like the blues, don't ya? Of all the great songs Bob Dylan has ever written, only one or two of these sound like the real deal rather than some ideas he wanted to play around with. And the performances of those one or two feel a bit like he'd rather be playing the other ideas.
Interesting bag. I'll listen again.
It's a different feel for a Dylan album, I enjoyed it but I felt it dragged in the end. It's not for me, but I understand the appeal, the new more pop sounds feel good, but I can't with his vocals.
Classic Bob
Didn’t mind this. Echoes of Leonard Cohen surprisingly in the first song
I appreciate that as a Bob Dylan album, this is kind of interesting. It's a return to form after a long slump. The recording is clean with an open atmosphere. Dylan, turn to form, has poetic lyrics. But, being honest here, how much would we care about this album if it was recorded by someone else? It's good, sure, and the fans will undoubtedly love it, but I don't know that there's much that's particularly memorable or exciting to the casual Bob Dylan fan (let alone the critics). It's hardly at the level of his earlier work. But sure, it's a decent one. I could have done without the 16 minute stream of consciousness jam session at the end though.
Didn't get to fully listen to it, but I like it.
I mean, it's a good album. But as I've said, Bob Dylan is not my favorite.
Not as punchie or iconic as 60s Dylan, but still has its strengths
First Bob Dylan album I was hoping for an older album of his as they might be a better introduction but oh well. I can definitely respect the long career in music that’s very impressive. It was a pretty decent listen some quality instrumentals and a good vibe from the songs. This album coming towards the later years of Dylans career I felt like the vocals just didn’t hold the same as earlier stuff, I found it quite nasally sounding which I didn’t overly enjoy unfortunately. Some standout songs for me were ‘Dirt Road blues’ and ‘Cold irons bound’, I felt like the vocals matched the vibe of these songs best. I look forward to hearing his earlier work, but this album just felt good but not great, I also feel like a 16-minute song is just unnecessary.
Some decent songs but I think I prefer older Dylan.

There's nothing approaching the greatness of some of his best work from the '60s and '70s, but it's still worth a listen. But let's be honest, Dylan sounds like a tired, haggard, old man here, and that affected my enjoyment of it. I'm sure all the 1 ratings I have yet to look at will agree.
Buen disco.
Dylan is best when he's just creepy talking. Favorite track: Love Sick
3.5 rounded down, didn’t appreciate the 15 min song at the end
3/5
Still annoying, still respectable
Ok Dylan. Raspy and rusty
Aus album, aga mitte midagi erilist. Kuulaks pikalt, aga miskit ei jää kõrvu. 3.3/5
ok background music
Buen disco.
Grammy Award winning blues and rockabilly album, last one produced by Canadian Daniel Lanois.
A good middle Dylan album that more or less defined his sound for the rest of time. At least you can still half understand him on this album. Pretty good although he never does reach those high highs of his early career. ¨Not Dark Yet¨ is amazing.
Sounds a bit run down and dull, not awful, but nothing special. I don't think I would ever want to hear any material from this album again. Three stars.
Good lyricism, I just wish it didn't sound like that.
Better than blonde on blonde
ehhhhh
A nice album, that's all. I don't personally like this genre, too slow, but this is a nice album
Nn ho ascoltato tutto...
More electric Dylan. It was fine but other albums stood out more on this list.
Very Bob Dylan-y, but none of the classics
Not sure how quick I will be to listen to this again, not that it’s boring I’m just not sure I get Bob Dylan. Didn’t realise “Make you feel my love” was originally a Dylan song and I did enjoy that, and “Standing in the doorway”. 3
Slow rock, and I did kinda enjoy the album.
Decent listen.
Bob Dylan's "Time Out Of Mind" is an album I approached with mixed expectations. I generally don't enjoy Dylan's music- his voice in particular has never worked for me- despite fully acknowledging his status as a great songwriter. In fact, I often enjoy hearing his songs performed by other artists, as evidenced by the many great covers of his work. The album itself is very slow throughout, and while some tracks almost drift by, a few moments did manage to pull me in, especially "Standing In The Doorway". Would I listen to it again? Maybe, possibly, probably... but yet unlikely. I frankly don't know.
The late period come back album is staggering. 60 something artists never kick ass like this. And the path through his 90's albums to get here is fascinating. But it's too long of a listen for me. All the respect to Bob. We aren't worthy, but I don't see myself listening top to bottom again. Maybe when I'm in my 60's? Later this year. Fuck me.
-i had kind of written off Bob Dylan and accepted that his music would never be for me. still not his biggest fan but this album may have changed things… definitely my favorite i’ve heard from him so far. very haunting and beautiful -it did feel very very long. perhaps too long. but even then i think it kinda worked. solid 3.5 -Favorites: Love Sick, Not Dark Yet, Highlands
Listens: 2.5 Standout Tracks: Dirt Road Blues, Make You Feel My Love Wow. Over a quarter of the way through the List and I am only now just hearing my first Bob Dylan album. I think he has something like 9 albums on the List (along with the Beatles and Bowie)? And similarly to David Bowie, where I heard his last studio album he produced before dying, I am hearing an album produced by Dylan in 1997 for my first official experience. It was fine. He sounds like Tom Waits, or maybe Tom Waits sounds like old Bob Dylan. Either way, dig the vocals, dig the music and dig the genre. Unsurprisingly not his best work though.
Just sounds like an old guy doing his thing. It is better on headphones
Not his best, I do love not dark yet though
Standard Dylan
This was a little downbeat for me. Still a great lyricist but it was quite long and I felt like I got the point after 40 minutes. Probably need to spend more time with it. High 3.
OK, so a bluesier Dylan album. I can definitely see where people get the "Bob Dylan sucks at singing" from with this album, but again, he's always sounded like an 80 year old singing, only this time he was older when this album was made (55ish), so it still makes sense. But yeah, bluesier stuff I'm burnt out on unless it's more alternative (See: The White Stripes). So I'm not super enamored with this one. But it's still solid.
What could you possibly be singing about for 16 minutes
I sure do like the idea of Bob Dylan.
Listening to this era of Dylan back-to-back with Highway 61 Revisited really demonstrates his change in style, emotion, and (particularly) vocal quality. Seriously – that's a reedy gravelly husk if I've ever heard one. Not that it's a bad thing. Dylan sounds pretty nifty here. I would almost wager his voice sounds better than on his older albums, but a lot of that is because he's less front-and-centre here. Ample time is given for instruments to shine, and Dylan's voice acts as its own instrument more than the youthful gruffness that distracts from the instrumentation on other albums. Not Dark Yet is a great example of this. Standing in the Doorway is a mildly worse What A Wonderful World (Armstrong, 1967), but the latter is such a fantastic song that the former still gets a cheery thumbs up. I loved Cold Irons Bound, despite expecting its 7-minute runtime to cause it to drag. Plus, it's mostly one chord, with a couple of extras thrown in for a sick bluesy cadence. But it's groovy as heck. Dirt Road Blues is also highlight, not only because it absolutely nails the genre it's trying to portray, but also because it's one of two tracks that's under 5 minutes. The other sub-5-er is Make You Feel My Love, which is a fantastic little ballad that features piano (a rare feat for Bob). And the elephant in the room, the 16-minute Highlands, is passable but also horrific for relistening, considering it's the same sluggish 12-bar blues repeated the entire time. 'Til I Fell in Love with You is also too repetitive to put anywhere other than the "naughty" list. 3/5 Key tracks: Dirt Road Blues, Cold Irons Bound, Make You Feel My Love
a classic and a must hear, even if Bob isn't your fav.
Favorite Songs: Not Dark Yet, Love Sick Least Favorite Song: Dirt Road Blues Hey Timothee Chalamet, why is the average track length over 6 minutes?
Yeh
made me wanna tap my foot and snap my finger 🥇make you feel my love 🥈till i fell in love withyou 🥉cant wait
I love Bob Dylan. Admittedly, I haven’t listened to much of his stuff—just Highway 61 Revisited and The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan—but those two albums were fantastic and I go back to listen to them fairly regularly. This one immediately felt entirely different from those two. It sounded like Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker—the vocals are raspier and more mature—it was produced to sound less like a guy with a harmonica and guitar and more like something ambient you can lose yourself in. The lyricism is the only thing that really stays the same. The storytelling and descriptions of daily interactions are still there—and some clever lines, too, such as using “lovesick” to mean “sick of being in love.” The changes weren’t bad at first. The opening seconds of Love Sick made me think this would be one of the best albums I’d ever heard. But then it just…didn’t live up to expectations. It’s thoroughly heartbroken and regretful. It sounds like a goodbye. And the first few songs are excellent. They do dip in quality at times, but they remain emotional. The highs of this album are certainly quite high, and much of it felt like something that could just absorb me. The vocals are swamped with anger and sadness. But, gradually, they just start to drown in production. It becomes repetitive towards the latter half of the album. Listen, I’m a huge fan of long songs. I love experimental, no-wave, prog, jazz, ballads in general—everything from Green Day’s Jesus of Suburbia to Rush to Sonic Youth to Coltrane. But god, Highlands was too long. It was reaching for the heights of Desolation Row and fell incredibly short. The lyrics, once more, were excellent, but the instrumentals became repetitive. I was just waiting for it to end. Overall, the album was quite good, but it wasn’t impressive, and some of it was actively unpleasant. Recap: Favorite songs: Love Sick, Not Dark Yet Least favorite song: Highlands Comparisons: You Want it Darker Rating: 3/5
Good blues rock just not what I go to Bob Dylan for
It was fine, no takeaways but didn't dislike it
Folk music GOAT. Sound of the 60’s and 70’s.
You hit play and think, man, Uncle Bobby’s about done here. After 431* albums, 17,665* songs and 31 million* cough drops, what more can he do? Then you hit a song like “Make You Feel My Love” and realize: goddamn, Uncle Bobby’s gonna outlast us all. And that was 28 YEARS AGO. *numbers are estimates
I can see how people would have been excited at this reemergence of Bob Dylan and praised this in the hopes that it was a harbinger of truly good Dylan yet to come. But it didn't come. This is just okay and way over-appreciated.
Dylan's version of paint-by-numbers. Perfectly okay, but a far cry from his classic material.
Bob Dylan is undoubtedly one of the greatest songwriters of all time. However, at the risk of repeating a sentiment all too common, I just wish someone else was singing his songs.
Dylan does Leonard Cohen, he's just ok at it
Bob from 1997 - this is an interesting change from the usual Highway 61 Revisited era I'm going to be listening to this one again - not something I have often in this 1001 Album challange :-) But Bob, that last rack is wayyy to long!
Good but not my vibe I think, would listen again tho x
i can only imagine how exciting it would have been to be a huge Bob Dylan fan and be suddenly treated to a good album in 1997, but as a casual Dylan fan who was 3 years old when it came out, it's just fine
low 3 I've noticed 1997 as one of the best years for music. Not sure how this managed to win 3 grammys in the year OK computer, Homogenic and Either / Or and many others were released. I suppose we've all got a soft spot for bob.
alright, give that man a strepsil
5/10 A sleepy man from a sleepy time "singing" 12-02-2025
It was okay.
really calm old man vibes. love it
A lot of Bob Dylan. Last track is 15 mins long!
Bob really has to include at least one cheesy folk-blues song 😭. This to me is very much a sunrise/sundown record. The last track reminds me of Desolation Row based on its length (2.5-3)
For a while there I thought someone had finally confiscated his f****** harmonica.
Pretty good - just kind of sunk into the background for me.
Something about the vibe of this one appealed to me. The sound style and bluesy folk feel gave it an intriguing comfort quality that I enjoyed. I think it distracted from it being Bob Dylan, which was good for me since I don't normally love his performance. In fact, I usually dislike his songs unless someone else is singing them. I didn't really feel that way here, but instead liked the character he brought to the tracks. That said, I wasn't particularly impressed with the album. It was somewhat bland and dragged on, causing me to lose interest a number of times as it went. The last track ran over 16 minutes, taking the album itself to 72+ minutes. I actually liked that last song, so I don't think that one alone was the problem. I guess this is an example of something I like sonically, but don't love the substance of. Kind of like Springsteen's Nebraska (though I think I liked this one better). I'm not sure I'll listen to it again even though I found it mostly fine. Overall: 2.8/5
I didn't dislike this as much as the terrible live recording, but I didn't like a ton about this one, either. Older Dylan is better.
I know that Dylan is worshipped by millions - millions of strange little cave dwellers - but for a dude who was big in the 60s, do we really need yet another album by him from 30 years later? We should have another Alice Cooper album - vastly more influential, better singer, better songwriter, better lyricist. Haven't said that, maybe this is good. Maybe this doesn't sound like the dying mewls of a cow with a spud trapped in its nose. Here he sounds more like Macy Gray. That's not a complement. That's like saying 'you look like Hitler', or 'You smell like Macy Gray '. And yet, it isn't terrible. As silly as the vocals are, once you get a taste for them and can look beyond that distraction, the songs aren't bad. Not great either and they mostly fall into the usual folk blues shtick, but there's some good stuff here. The problem with the food stuff is that, there's no progress, no pay off. Every song just sits and stagnates. On the plus side, that means the chill vibe of the album isn't broken. Down side? It feels aimless, meandering, void. It's like the worst techno music you can think of - have a single good piece, copy and paste until the end of the song. That final sixteen minutes track? Skip and pause at any moment of the song and it's the same as any other. So no, it's not terrible. I don't even mind his vocals here as much, now that he's shouting less. Lyrics good, band good. Just a bunch of songs that do little for me.

Of all the Bob Dylan I've been forced to listed to through this project, this is the least bad.
He is an icon, zero idea why but here is is.
Late 90s Dylan is interesting. Certainly has a much more polished and refined sound from an engineering perspective. This one is very bluesy, and the songwriting is decent, but not quite the revolutionary sound that Dylan embodied at his start. Not sure I’d revisit this one, but it was an interesting experience nonetheless.
That version of make you feel my love is genuinely terrible. Rest is cool. Grammy still feels more like a lifetime achievement award.
2.5
Cool Record.
This is ok, mostly cool and better than I expected. The stripped down sound from his band is cool and his vocals work. The lyrics and atmosphere are genuine, very visual. Lots of good stuff but the closing track is about 10 minutes too long.
There wasn’t really a time when I wasn’t enjoying this album. I really like Dylan’s more aged voice and prefer it to his younger voice. An enjoyable listen. Was tempted to give four stars, but knocking down to three because it sounds the same the whole way through.
Meh
A Dylan album I’m not familiar with at all. Not sure why it’s on the list because his more famous albums are on the list which in my view are much superior to this one. It’s all standard Dylan fayre throughout but none of these songs get the pulse racing and the album is without a great memorable classic Dylan is famous for. That said it is Dylan and anything by him must be taken note of. 3/5 3/11/25
THIRTIETH??? studio album?!??? I honestly think nobody should be allowed to make thirty studio albums. They ought to cut you off and take away the microphones after number twenty-five or so. THIRTY studio albums. Insanity. What can you possibly have left in you by that point in time? Well Bob Dylan had To Make You Feel My Love left in him I guess so maybe I ought to be eating my words here. But then the other problem with all thirty plus Bob Dylan albums is that they have Bob Dylan’s vocals on them. Though we’ll always have the Adele cover version etc. etc.
Another album I enjoyed more than I expected to! Ironic, because from what I read, it sounded like Dylan did not like it very much himself! I have a lot of respect for Daniel Lanois work and wonder if it was his magic touch that got this one over the line for me :-)
Good one
Some good stuff on here at times, but like a lot of Dylan records, it's just too long.
Ele é um gênio com as letras das músicas mas achei tudo muito parecido. Fora que as músicas ficam cansativas dps de um tempo
3.5
I enjoyed it, but I don't think it really clicked with me.
This was just okay for me. I much prefer his older material. I actually kind of zoned out while listening to it so maybe I didn't really give it a fair shake. It became kind of monotonous after a while, though. I did enjoy "Make You Feel My Love" and "Not Dark Yet."
This whole thing sounds like it belongs in the credits of a Coen Brothers movie. The pace is glacial; you can feel the minutes ticking by while it plays. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions Love Sick Not Dark Yet Make You Feel My Love
Actually, I don't like Bob Dylan. I've explicitly blocked him on my streaming service. I don't like his voice. I can't really get into his music, and all the hype surrounding him gets on my nerves. But this album wasn't so bad. Maybe I'll even give it another listen. 3/5
Quite liked this, nice and bluesy, but Make You Feel My Love doesn't fit AT ALL with the rest of the album.
Some good songs but the rambling 12 minute blues at the end capped it at 3
C’est pas le mieux J’ai eu sa tête de blasée digne du clip de we are the world tout le long, ca m’a fait rire
I’ve heard a lot of Bob Dylan tunes but all these songs are new to me. His lyrics are occasionally funny. The music is fine.
Do geese see god? Bob Dylan's 30th album is kinda like... jazz with vocals. It's okay. No hooks on a first listen. It's weird that 'Make You Feel My Love' was written by Dylan but Billy Joel's version came out 1 month before this one. I guess that's just the wacky kinda stuff you expect from Bob!
There is something comforting about this album. The instruments all play their part very well, usually taking a backseat to Bob Dylan's vocals. Too bad the vocals are mostly bad. Make You Feel My Love is really good and I think it works with his vocals unlike a lot of other songs in this album. I get the importance of it though. He's still making great music a few decades into the business. This is the first of his album's I've heard, so I'm not a big fan, so I can't appreciate this album for that yet. I would like to revisit this album after hearing his other stuff, but for now, this is where I'm at.
At first I didnt know what to think, but by the end I was sad it was over. This was pretty good and I know i would like it more with additional relistens.
This was another good bob album! This was him a little bit older, but still pretty good!
Dylan gnäller vidare, men gör det helt okej. Inget mästerverk men går att lyssna på. I längsta laget dock. Rekommenderar Tom Jones version av It’s not dark yet från 2021.
Som album gillar jag detta bättre än Blood On The Tracks. Kankse mest för att Dylans nyttjande av munspel är begränsat. Men 11 låtar på 72 minuter blir för mycket Dylan. även om här finns flera starka låtar, Not dark Yet, Standing in the doorway, Trying to get to heaven och Make you fell my love. Någon av blues- och rockabilly-låtarna hade med fördel kunnat ha strukits.
Twangy, in a good way. I've had a hard time liking Dylan, but this might be the album of his that I like!
Cook album to drive around Reno Mevada at night after loosing money at the casino. Has a Sopranos kind of vibe. I’m not very familiar with his music but will enjoy it as I listen to more of him for this project.
Great sounds. Ok songs.
Pretty even ateven kinda album, just rolls along with no no ups or downs. If you like it Dylan, great, if not it’s not going to change your mind.
This is the best Dylan I have ever heard + no fucking harmonica destroying my will to live
Not the best Bob Dylan album, and I’m Dylan fan. Very long, but it doesn’t necessarily feel like an album that drags.
73% Best: Million Miles; 'Til I Fell in Love with You; Cold Irons Bound; Can't Wait Must-Hear? Nah. Despite my feelings about Dylan, this was better than I expected.
Bob Dylan is a really boring blues singer
When you're so desperate for a good album that it becomes one (even if it's really not that good).
General thoughts: This is not the Bob Dylan I'm used to, I'm used to 60-70s Dylan, so I was a little bit anxious before starting. Lengthy as usual, but slower than usual... I like the studio sound it produced though, its polished. A piano song was a first for me lol (Make You Feel My Love). Later I noticed why it sounded so familiar (Adele's cover). In general, the album it's failing melodically for me, also its filled with too many songs using typical blues progressions. As for lyrics, some are gold some are very relaxed and don’t aim higher, which I don’t condemn. I especially liked the lyrics for 'Not dark yet', very sinister, it’s like I'm either depressed or in my deathbed lol. I like Dylan's rawness, and this feels like minimal instead. Wouldn't define it as a "Comeback" as the summary says. Outstanding song(s): Not dark yet. Love sick. Weakest song(s): Highlands. (Why is this 16m long?!) Cover: Decent. The studio photo aligns with the sound of this album. Real rating: 2.63
Decent mellow Dylan.
I never really listened to Bob Dylan but I had a fine time listening to this album. The only complaint I had was it felt repetitive and I got bored at listening to the 16 minute song. There was like 2 tracks that I did enjoy so I raised my rating on that. Bob Dylan is considered to be one of the greatest songwriters in the American music scene but I never really was into his music. Maybe if I experiment with his other albums, I could start to appreciate his music more.
No where near his best, but still solid.
A few good ones...What's up with Highlands? Sounds like a drunk campfire singalong.
Somehow it makes sense that there could somehow be a Bob Dylan album that is tolerable on this journey! I mean, his voice was still nasally, which is how I knew Dylan wasn't abducted by aliens, but the blues aspect of Time Out of Mind makes for a smooth listen. Turns out I really just don't like Dylan and folk music. With this album, I was able to focus on the lyrics, which is of course what Dylan is actually known for.
With all of these Bob Dylan albums I've had on this project, the last thing I wanted was ANOTHER Bob Dylan album. That said, this may have been his most tolerable album for me yet. And to think, all it took was him leaving behind his nasaly voice and harmonica and trading those out for a Tom Waits gravely voice and strong guitar. Also, I had never heard Dylan's original version of "Make You Feel My Love", and YIKES. Adele's cover has spoiled me to the point where this is almost unlistenable. Anyway, this is a very low 3, which for me and Bob Dylan, is about as good as it gets.
Not a big fan of Dylan. This album is a little bland. There's a few good songs. I've always liked "Make You Feel My Love" and "Not Dark Yet" is pretty good. Otherwise, it's listenable but nothing amazing for such a prominent figure in Rock and folk.
i dunno. i can’t get into dylan’s voice. instrumentation is beautiful and i can certainly appreciate the album
Meh. Not his best, although good lyrics.
First Bob Dylan album and I enjoyed it. Not a huge fan but there’s a couple songs I enjoyed. Would be a good Sunday album. Will listen again but probably wouldn’t recommend
I had the unfair bias of having to listen to this album immediately after Blood on the Tracks. Dylan’s best albums are so great that unfortunately his other really solid albums pale in comparison.
Bob Dylan should not be allowed to perform his own songs. He's a great songwriter, but such a horrible singer that it practically nullifies it. This album is mostly songs that aren't particularly special. Just sort of meh. The only exception is "Make You Feel My Love." That one's a real star.
If this is a "return to form" I'd almost like to hear the bad stuff. It's all the same Mid Dylan to me.
kinda putting the bob dylan albums close together… im on to you album generator 🤨 im trying to like it but idk??? i dont know where i am at with this
My relationship with Bob Dylan has been a bit of a journey. I was not much of a fan in my early days, of really listening to music. I just didn't get Bob as a young teen. He did though wear on me well and as I aged, my appreciation of Dylan's "style", developed. I like this album, not a favorite, but still solid.
Cool, very bluesy Dylan album. Enjoyed a lot of it, Cold Irons Bound was solid.
Not that it's too bad, but it's one 72-minute-long song
