wham bam just feels like misogyny. really dislike this genre of country / rock or whatever it is

Predictable and repetitive country nonsense. Going for the nursery rhyme approach of repeated lyrics and childish hooks, which is presumably why many of these songs became famous despite their dire simplicity.

I was offended by the suit even before pushing play... and then it got worse.

I wish that tiger would have ate him before he could release this album

The longest half hour

The epitome of classic American country music. Ear grating.

Yeah, nah. I'm sure there's good reason this is an important album.

Fuck Buck

No me gusta el county ni un poquito... Y este disco no fue la excepción.

No thank you, I’ll be on my way.

Similar to bluegrass, this kind of country music is a genre that avoids any progress or development.

If I ever needed a reminder of why I can’t stand country music, here’s the perfect example of everything I find annoying about it. Cheesy music, saccharine lyrics (I love my baby, I miss my baby, my baby has left me), sluggish tempos, sentimentality instead of poetry – or at least virtuosity.

Ja country vôbec nemusím. Ak by sa dalo dať 0, tak dám 0...

This is #day609 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… sometimes I've got the feeling this list is roughly a competition between country and post-punk. While the latter is one of my go-to genres, this particular album isn't the most tolerable kind of country under the sun. Tell me about honky tonk, Fender Telecasters, and all that... I'm indifferent. I guess I'm back to square one with these country records. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day610.

some of it was really awful- Streets of Laredo- the rest was crap

1. tiger - 0 2. trouble - 1 3. zad - 1 4. bam - 1 5. fall - 2 6. you - 1 7. roll - 1 8. band - 2 9. laredo - 1 10. crying - 1 11. prayer - 2 12. memphiz - 1 13. heart -1 14. naturally - 1

Listened while at home. Excruciatingly boring. Would rather be listening to literally anything else.

two 60's country records in a row should be ILLEGAL

You cannot look me in the eye and say this is music made by grown adults for grown adults.

I don't mind this style of music; beyond me what's supposedly of value in this particular album, though, beyond being fun enough the year it came out.

Buck Owens and his Buckaroos - I've Got a Tigeroo by the Tailaroo is a fine by ultimately pretty unremarkable countryroo music albumoroo. (I guess this pioneered some kind of country subgenre. Would never have guessed.)

Is this the worst album I’ve ever heard? Probably not but most of the songs I hate probably were influenced by this sound. Best track was the instrumental song which really illustrates how so much country is worse than the sum of its parts.

i thought it would be fun to honk and tonk but this is just irritating

I do not know "the Buck Owens story" (if any, lol) - I am coming at this "totally uninformed" ("blank slate baby, Descartes me as you will"). "Tiger by the Tail - clean mix, harmony singing, kewl. Is there a double entendre here? Second half lyrics say the tiger drags him into the light, rather than into the dark, meh. Musically, second half of song adds almost squit nothing to the first half - just a quick flourish at the very end. Is this album going to be indescribably tedious? (Spoiler alert: yes.) La la la. 'Memphis' is exciting (from a low base) for the appearance of the 5/6/7 boogie. Is it going anywhere? No, plse die now. Overall, the mix is clear (grats to engineers); nice slide guitar, tick. The lyrics and musical arrangements, however, are consumately shallow, repetitive, tedious, like a nightmare of endlessness. The drums are twee to a painful degree. May I give (cue French accent) zero points?? No, minimum one star. Okay, it's BAD, 1/10.

I recognize that this sound was super influential, and not just within country music, but classic country like this just isn't for me.

Entiendo por que esto en su día fue brutai, pero a día de hoy es demasiado difícil de escuchar

Bullshit

I couldn’t do it! I was half way through the second song but had to stop! This is everything I hate about this sort of music and I just couldn’t bare it.

Quand c'est non c'est non, la country ça ne veut pas...

НЕ НА КЪНТРИТО

sentimenteel amerikaans gezever

I think the record club is broken. The snow and cold must have done it in. All I've gotten in the past week is trash.

Oh dear, country!

"This influenced all country!" Well I don't enjoy country, so this guy is now an enemy.

Country, 35 eme album =>1/5

I’ll never like country

Yeah, no. It's just some country.

Wow. One thing I don’t like is country music and the next two things are steel guitar and a Les Paul guitar. This one has it all! Even listening to Memphis and Act Naturally was rough.

Not into country music, so this album is not for me at all

Im sure this was influential for country music but it didn't influence me to like county music. In fact I like modern country more than this

Country still sucks. Maybe you can't keep a woman because you treat them like shit.

Listens: 1 Standout Tracks: We're Gonna Let the Good Times Roll Man do I really dislike Country music. This was ultra twangy, tacky, stereotypical country music. And just as well, the sound on this album is described as hillbilly music. God. Shoot me in the head. Hard pass.

Not for me. 1/5

bad album

Didn't like it, not my cup of tea

This was the worst kind of country music, the twangy, woe-is-me, honky tonk.

Nooooooo!

Oh, dear. Now that's country. Well, at least it was with upbeat songs overall. The slower country has been difficult for me.

Gear: ZiiGaat x Hangout.Audio: Odyssey 2 Artwork: 😃😃😃 Production: 🎧🤔🤷 Music: 🤠🎤😂 Rating: 🐯(🐯)/5

If I can guess where the next chord is going, if I can imagine what the next melodic line is going to be before it has been sung or played, then I don't really want or need to listen, do I? Maybe it wasn't the case at the time, but to me now listening in 2025, this is formulaic, predictable and unexciting music.

Errr, no.

There are songs similar to this that I have nostalgia for because my grandfather had them on a jukebox when I was a kid, and they were silly... I have no such nostalgia for these songs, and so I find it hard to even tolerate them. Definitely not for me.

Generic country. Doesn't really do it for me. Not really sure why you need to hear this before you die. Apparently Buck Owens pioneered what is now known as the "Bakersfield sound"...well, thankfully KoRn's Jonathan Davis redefined the meaning of Bakersfield in popular music, because "I've Got A Tiger By the Tail" is essentially generic country for people who don't really want to tune into the music. I guess the guitar sounds okay, so its not a complete travesty. It's the very sound that made me loathe the Conway Twitty cutaways in Family Guy.

I get why it's important. Still don't loke it.

Woof. So misogynistic and twangy

So twangy and strange - not really my thing

Not for me.

I've Got a Tiger By the Tail

You're having a laugh, right? Buck off

Buck Owens: I've Got a Tiger By the Tail: I HATE COUNTRY. BORING!!!!! 1/10

I tried. It looked like an old timey country album, and of fucking course it was. The first two songs were tolerable, but that 3rd one really put me over the edge. Less Country & Western. More Heavy Metal. Please & Thank You.

Starts strong with the title song but quickly turns into mostly mopey sad country songs about feeling bad for yourself in kind of a simple and immature way.

Not to my taste-and it’s not nostalgic or fun, either. Hard no.

I don't hate country music. I hate this country music.

I could not listen to this album. I hit play and then I was like, nope, honky tonk is exactly the kind of country music I can’t stand.

1 star

Didn't listen all the way through - Honky Tonk aint my jam

This album was not for me man. I can see why some folks would like it but it is not my cup of tea personally. Overall, I didn’t enjoy listening to this album and I don’t see myself listening to it again in the future. No offense to anyone who likes this album, it was just not my vibe.

The best song is the sing they didn't even write, Memphis.....sums it up really

Houmous & Chutney performed a tribute to this album during their Caesars Palace Residency in Las Vegas in ‘81. Len used to perform it actually holding one of the tails of the tigers from Siegfried & Roy. Had to cancel the show. The tigers weren’t overly impressed and mauled Roy after one of the shows. Thinking back it was quite disrespectful towards the tigers. 0.6

Dislike country in any guise. If I were Skynet wouldn’t have bothered about John Connor, but instead sent a terminator back so stop the genesis of this genre.

Howdy partner. I unfortunately did not have a rootin’ tootin’ time listening to this record. It was a real patience tester for me. Buck Owens’ music is so saccharine that it makes Johnny Cash sound like a thug by comparison. Its open, tender heart is undermined by the repetitive subject matter of the songs - a girl is often leaving Buck!

I thought that I would have a small soft spot for country stuff but no no no. I almost quit listening this album because I was so bored and irritated.

I'd rather listen to no music at all. Plain country music is not something I enjoy hearing.

I did not have a good time listening to this. Really not my vibe at all.

wanhan ajan...

Dear god this is awful. I can't really get on with country music at the best of times and this is truly unbearable. I enjoy a few older country artists - Johnny Cash, the occasional Willie Nelson - but this is just so cheesy and twangy and I can't stand it. I don't get the appeal for this kind of music at all. The best thing about this album is that it's only 32 minutes long. 1/5

I dare say that country music is only for gringos, so…

It's official: This is now the worst album I've ever heard in my life. This sounds like a parody of Country Music. Almost as if a Frat Bro decided to make their own Country album, and fake a Southern Accent. Most tolerable track: "Maiden's Prayer".

Buck Angel makes better music than this guy

Nothing about this appealed to me. It’s beyond me how this artist and album could possibly make it onto this list. Not only was the music not my taste, but it was utterly generic. It sounded like the same thing everyone else was doing at the time.

The worst kind of country

Not for me

No thanks.

Buck Owens and The Buckaroos is the most wedgie-deserving bunch of nerd in the history of music. Each Buckaroo is getting a swirly.

that was the fastest i've ever stopped playback

Zero interest

Not my bag

euh... bestaan er mensen --buiten USA-- die country leuk vinden? ik ken er niet veel alleszins... niks tegen een occasioneel liedje op de radio, maar een hele plaat lang?? Ik pis liever op een electrische draad

Listened to one track and that was more than enough

God save us from anything resembling this in the future.

Wham bam, no thank you ma'am

More croony country adjacent "rock". Maybe it changed the game back in the day, don't know, don't care.

Quite a warm voice, but this was a slog. A 1 is harsh, but a 2 is too forgiving. Messy mixing, and bland arrangements. I read that the covers of many of the tracks are better than the originals. One would hope.

Every day we stray further from god

If I could give a minus I would. Managed about 20 seconds

Dreadful

Country

Cowboy emo 🤠 🖤

SKIP.

not my thing

Tumbleweeds, warm beer, Johnny Cash knock off.

Yee-haw!

This kind of music should have been left behind in the 60s

Oh lawd no. That voice was an immediate pass... What are we even doing with this one. Ugh

Maybe one good song, rest is just country waffle.

Lost me immediately

Country/Folk album that can run in the background. Especially when in a saloon etc. Not my cup of tea for listening by myself

didn't connect to this at all

Not for me 1/5

bro this is to white even for me

Simple plodding country .

Awful.

While I could see versions of these songs being ok I still don’t like it at all. Maybe in the context of a movie it could work. But nah, not for me.

The ‘best’ country album so far. Best meaning it didn’t make me want to cleave my ears off after 30 seconds. I actually got through two tracks of not horrible before I wanted to cleave my ears off.

I normally like this type of music but this album sucks

No. Just no. I hate it but maybe someone out there doesn’t.

I’m sorry, this sucks. I did enjoy the song wham bam though for its lyrics. I mildly dig the honky tonk parts of some of the tracks, but god damn that whiney country twang just pisses me off. 1.3

Boring

This sort of country needs to stay in the country...

It's country. Bakersfield country. It was great in the 60s. It should have stayed there. Sample fodder.

too old twangy country

fy fan vilket junk

You are kidding me this is in the most essential 1,001 albums to listen to before you die. When was this list created ffs?

Probably my least favourite style of music. Couldn't finish the first song.

Hated it!!!

Hell's teeth this is bad. I get it, there probably wasn't loads to enjoy in the Deep South in 1965, but then maybe you shouldn't have burned all those Beatles records? It's so one-paced, the lyrics are unbelievably vacuous, and the mix is all over the place, to the extent that I had to check the sound settings to make sure something hadn't gone wrong. Nope, that's just the way Buck likes it. It's short, which is to its credit, and every now and then you can hear something slightly more than the most basic blues guitar (there's a tiny hint of a good lick in Memphis, swamped out by the dreadful recording quality) but there's not a lot more to say for it. Speaking of The Beatles, as I wish we were, the original of Act Naturally is on here. It's so dreadful that for the first time in my life, I wished Ringo was singing.

Entirely too country for me. While I understand the influence Buck Owens had on the development of the quintessential country style, I really wish he hadn't.

Ya me sentía del KKK. Basura.

YEEEEEEEEHAWWWWWW!!!

Mites tuo biisinkirjoitus? Noh, ei sitä aina jaksa.

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

one star

i managed half of a verse of the opening track. fuck cuntry. however the youtubes did lead me to an oz band called Tiger by the Tail and they have a self titled album that is a pleasant discovery of some early 2000s wall of noise. .

It's honky tonk country

Zelfs voor een dag met een open mind, gaat dit te ver!

Jemig, wat een oubollig gebeuren. En dan ook nog eens country. Brrr.

Is this a joke? Shambles that this is on the list.

Bag o' shite

I remember this guy from Hee Haw from when I was a child. Had no idea he was considered to be such a country singer icon. I thought he was suppose to be a comedian. Anyway, this is the kind of country that drives me crazy. Too twangy, too corny, just not my type. The song Wham Bam made me laugh. Just because this dude in no way shape of from loos like a wham, bam thank you ma'am kinda person. Thought is was terrible. Won't re-listen. Will not go back and watch Hee Haw re-runs. 1

Nope. Nope. Hell no. No. Why does this exist? Why, even though it exists, is it on this list? It feels like a parody album but it's for real and that just makes the whole experience so sad. I got nothing here. This is terrible.

all that I do not like in music on a single disc.

Not a country fan at all. 1/5

2 min country ditties. Nope.

A new low. Take a deep breath 🧘

OMG Ivan je ocijenio album od danas već danas 😵‍💫 Da tolko mi je loš, mrzim country, mrzim rednecke miss me with that shit.

I can understand how some people enjoy this kind of stuff, but I am not some people.

Old country. Not my genre at all. Sorry.

Best Song: Streets of Ladere. If I close my eyes, I can imagine I am a child. It is a hot day in Florida, and we've just stepped inside the Country Bear Jamboree. Worst Song: Wham Bam. Jesus this is the corniest shit I've ever heard. Overall: Was not expecting an unironic use of the word "buckaroo".

Amused me for about 3 minutes then fucked me off.

“Owens' Bakersfield honky tonk sound at the height of its freight-train rumbling powers.” Nice jacket though.

Buck's face annoys me. 100% certain I could've died without listening to this one.

Wham bam, thank you man

Ooh. Bad.

not for me

Shite. Couldnt even listen to a full track

3/10 ludomatics

BOOOOOO
