Reviews (page 6 of 7)

I don't know that I would ever listen to this album again but it was neat to hear a 1960s take on blues.

Needle of Death was good

I liked the last few songs a lot but then it turns out the album had finished and I was listening to Waggoner’s lad from a different album.

Some of the guitar playing was really nice but the songs didn't really stick out to me

Good shit

I enjoyed the guitar in general and the instrumental tracks and a couple of the songs but less so.

If Bob Dylan could play guitar and sing like this, he might have never gone electric.

Kind of cute British Folk. I liked it more at the start but it became a little same-y by the end. Not bad though.

Listened to on 6/24/2022 3.5/5 Favorite song: Veronica The guitar playing in this album is so beautiful and continually impressed me - very easy to listen to in the background and enjoyable

Almost a 4.

Fav Song: Angie

Cool, mellow 60s folk

I like how this kicks off with Strolling Down the Highway, the whole album has quite a nice feel but didn't really grab me.

Some foundational folk stylings here. A really solid group of songs for the most part, with some real standouts. However, the whole thing is so homogenous that it gets a little tired by the end, even as the songs get better, and it just didn't suck me in like some others of the same vibe like Nick Drake.

It's a good record. Might have to give it another listen one day. 3.5/5

Alluring folk music that could have undoubtedly scratched a persistent itch in the time that it came out, mediating between short guitar noodling and thoughtful, lyrical performances. Favorites: Strolling Down the Highway, Needle of Death, Do You Hear Me Now, Running From Home, Courting Blues, Casbah, Angie.

Solid folk music.

A very simple formula for a pleasant listening experience.

Genre: Folk Baroque 3/5 I do admit, I've never heard of the guy, and that when I got this album in my queue, I giggled very hard. Bert Jansch, while certianly not the most unfortunate name around, is certianly giggle-worthy. Tangent aside, Bert Jansch seems to have been the dude who preceded the folk heavy-hitters. As soon as the album began, I heard George Harrison, Brian Wilson, Donovan, the good parts of Bob Dylan, and even some of what Taylor Swift has been up to over the past few years. This was a really cool listen from that viewpoint, that this is one of those albums that contemporary songwriters were clearly influenced by. Other than that, this is fairly bland folk-pop, which is not altogether my favorite type of listening experience. What he was saying was way prettier and way less cringy than Bob Dylan, and his guitar playing was sweet and fit the mood, but it certainly lacks energy. Influential to many, but a bit too stale for my tastes. I'm sure, though, this will please plenty of listeners looking for more quiet projects. Not bad.

Super guitar picking. I prefer the blues pieces to folk. Jansch's version of "Angie" has long been a favourite, so although the album really doesn't pull me in, I am inclined to give it another listen a medium mark for Angie and for the amazing guitar picking.

Ok folk album

Ok album. Some songs felt like quintessential folk songs from the 60s. The album was enjoyable however it felt like there’s been stronger albums of the same style. In 65 this may have been viewed better but to me it’s just ok. 5.7/10

That's some guitar twiddling.

A bit plucky and twangy for how I was feeling, but a pleasant interlude nonetheless

Good folk rock and great guitar playing - reminds me of a whole album of Beatles’ “Blackbird”

Liked Bert’s album… great guitar playing

Nothing wrong with it

Some real nice stuff here. I often like folk music, and I also happen to like fingerstyle guitar, so this album has some solid tracks on it because Bert Jansch can really play well. So expressive and flowing. This genre was massive in the 60s, so it's a little hard at times not to hear it as part of that large catalog produced in the 60s folk revival, and this album has a lot of elements common to that movement, but to my ear, he's good enough to stand out a bit from that crowded field.

Charming collection of folk songs, if a little repetitive in style.

Good singer, happy to know about him

Folking hell. Superb guitar playing singing classic folk songs. Distinctly British. Best Tracks: Needle of Death; Running From Home; Angie

Running from home, Dreams of love j'ai bien aimé

Prefs: Smokey River, Finches, Needle of Death, Do You Hear Me Now?, Casbah, Angie Moins pref: Oh How Your Love Is Strong

Great guitar player. In his field completely untouchable. The album was a bit one dimensional.. bit that ain’t Bert’s fault!

The guitar work on this album is pretty amazing. The singing/lyrics leaves much to be desired though. They sort of even each other out. This musical style isn't really my cup of tea but gotta give it up for that guitar playing. 3.5 stars

Guitar was really good. Preferred the instrumental tracks over the songs with his voice. Finches and Alice’s Wonderland were my favorite. 3.5/5

Some nice songs but a bit disconnected, confusing at times.

Eh, a couple of decent tracks. But overall, a bit slow for me.

I had never heard of Bert Jansch. He has a wonderful voice on this album. I liked how there were some instrumentals - when one loves playing guitar, I assume sometimes one just wants to play, and do their best to express something with the instrument. Glad to have been introduced to this artist.

Do You Hear Me Now.

Solid folk, it didn't make a huge impression beyond that.

This album didn't really do much for me. He has a nice voice, and the tone on the guitar was captured well, but I'm not really into this style of folk music 3/5

some of that was brilliant. some of it not so.

Folking hell. For folks sake. Un-folking-believable. Have you seen that video where Haaland balances three balls on each other and hits a target? Yeah, I've got nothing else to say.

Nice, calming little album

Boring for me

Cultura general

Good but not for me

nice songs accompanied by acoustic guitar, some songs in de middle are kinda of lacking in diversity and a different dynamic, angie is nice altough i wonder what kind of lyrics theme it would fit

I'd like to believe that the Coen Brother's "Inside Llewyn Davis" is based on this chap. This is literally just a dude and his acoustic guitar, but said dude can play! I hear a lot of The Beatles' "For You Blue" on the first song. I hope Bert at least had a cat hanging around the studio like Llewyn Davis would.

Folk. Un hombre y su guitarra. Ni fu ni fa.

solid folk rock.

Very unique and cool voice.

Acoustic voice and guitar folk. It's fairly well done with some amazing guitar playing. Sadly I just find his voice quite dull and there's nothing to really grab me.

i think the first song is fantastic but i quickly lost interest for the vast majority for the rest of the album. the songs were not bad but did not do enough to garner my full attention. the runtime is quite short though which makes it relatively acceptable. 2.5 to a 3/5

Pleasing- good Sunday afternoon listening

This definitely has a 60's folk vibe. It's mostly soft folk with a few instrumentals. It's great to just put on repeat and have as background music. My favorite song was Needle of Death.

Nice easy listen

Hard not to like. It was nice. None of the songs really stood out to me, but I enjoyed it. I don't know why this album made the list when there are hundreds just like it. I hope to listen again but not sure if I would seek it out to listen again.

Inoffensive background music

I can hear how this album influenced Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Led Zeppelin, etc. Great acoustic guitar playing, and great folk music.

Good album…nothing special in my opinion

Good music

Good old folk

I listened to the re-mastered version of this album. It is folk-y and old school guy. Acoustic guitar noodling. Single is called Angie, which is excellent. The rest of the album is good!

Was nice an folky but not a lot of lyrics. I really liked it when i was making dinner

This is a really robust and enjoyable folk record. I really love his guitar work. I can hear some John Fahey, but perhaps a little less intricate. Favourite song: Finches 3.5/5

Interesting. I wouldn't have listened to this otherwise. I wonder what the rest of folk music was like at the time? (1965) Not sure if how unique / different it would have been. Can see it / him as a big influence in modern guitarists.

Interesting. I never heard of this artist but can see why he was influential

5/10. Pleasant background music, but boring.

Alice´s Wonderland is nice!

I really enjoy this style of guitar playing. His influence is big, but from the perspective of 2021, the album is not bad nor great as no song stands out, other than the legendary Angie.

Nice album, good sound, obviously knows his way around the guitar. Glad I listened, reasonable background music, but otherwise there's nothing here to pull me in.

Good folky music. 3 stars.

Folksy, seems pretty socially justicy which i like but I still don't enjoy folk music

Wow. Amazing acoustic sound. Nick Drake's inspiration, for sure.

I had only heard "Angie" from this album before listening to the whole thing. Overall, album is OK. "Angie" is the best song on the whole thing.

I've never heard of Bert Jansch, but this was a pretty good folk album.

Listened to this multiple times while doing homework, I’m here for it.

Decent album, great length, nice listening, just a bit too monotonous

Pretty solid folk album. Nice atmosphere and I love that there are some purely instrumental tracks. His playing was as good as his writing.

This looks like it's gonna be folk music. Yep, acoustic but not country really... ok according to Wiki it's Scottish though (I was expecting American). Guitar work is really cool, but it's hard to judge otherwise - feels too old-timey. 3/5.

Jonninjoutava. 2/5

While it is not unlistenable, it is a super boring album that never really delivers any energy.

three listens, very chilled, very quiet. Coffee shop, busker-esque.

Bored to tears

Meh . Had high hopes but no

That sure is an English folk record that some of my favs liked when they were younger.

Pleasant but unmemorable folk

“If cherry trees bore fruit of gold; The birds would die, their wings would fold” SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH YOU STUPID FUCKING HIPPIE AND TAKE YOUR GODDAM ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND YOUR FUCKING BERET AND SHOVE THEM UP YOUR ASS AND GO GET A FUCKING JOB!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE SENT ALL THE HIPPIES TO VIETNAM ARMED ONLY WITH ACOUSTIC GUITARS AND LOVE BEADS AND THEN WE’D HAVE WON THAT WAR BECAUSE THE VIETNAMESE WOULD'VE ALL KILLED THEMSELVES! THERE ARE OTHER TYPES OF TREES FOR BIRDS TO EAT FRUIT FROM AND I ASSUME THEY COULD STILL BUILD THEIR NESTS IN CHERRY TREES EVEN IF THE TREES SPROUTED GOLD RATHER THAN CHERRIES! I DON’T REALLY KNOW HOW BIRDS WORK!!!!

Really nothing special. There are much better folk albums out there.

Didn’t really grab me. Not bad, just not that interesting. 2.5/5

Basically the same song recorded 15 times. Notable for being one of the first of its kind in terms of folky Americana. Not that listenable though

Sort or samey and what was there was cool...but I yearned for variations.

Boring

I really can’t think of what to say … I guess it was OK but sounded a bit dated.

This list is very UK centric. Sorry but boring…

I don't mind some sleepy folk music but this was a little too sleepy.

Great guitar picking music ok but feels dated. Lyrics don’t cut it. Would be better if only acoustic without sappy lyrics,

Keby to tu nebolo, vôbec by mi to nechýbalo.

Pretty boring. Idk what else to say.

Not in love with it

[yawn]

Clearly a very talented folk guitar player, I always wanted to check him out on the back of Johnny Marr saying he was a major influence, but for me this album lacks something, it sounds like a sort of pound shop Nick Drake, none of the songs really grab me and there are no memorable Melodies, it played, it didn’t grab me, it didn’t offend me and when it finished I had no inclination to listen to it again. 2.3

No thanks Bert

It was quite boring. Once he opened his mouth it got immediately worse.

Uninspiring

Boring folk.

Didn't make much impression on me, except the last song, Angie - which I then realized is a cover song. Oh well.

05/23 Meh

FAVO: Dreams of love, Angie

Quite cozy, but also a bit anonymous. There is nothing that really stands out here. Maybe it would've been different if I heard this first time on a rainy autumn day on my way to the cabin, not sure. Folk album in '65 feels like a saturated marked and hard to sell. Guess it must've been quite early with this sound, perhaps. Didn't really manage to break my concentration at all when working, just felt like background noise. It's lacking in the hooks department, and in the singing. Strong 2.

Long, too noisy, and not noisy enough.

Oh, now I see why I have never heard of this. I don’t like this kind of music much. (ntm.)

I only like the little instrument solos

I really don't enjoy this style of music or this style of singing, but there is some really good guitar work on this album

nothing special here. already forgot about this and moved on.

Nice if on mushrooms in a cabin somewhere, otherwise kinda dullish folk tunes.

Guitar playing is good. Just didn’t care for the songs - most of them anyway

Less good than Croce

This is fine, and the dude has a nice voice, but truth be told I liked the instrumentals the best.

Generic sad boy guitar

imagine a bloke.... with a *guitar*...... and get this, he *sings*........ Standouts: Finches • Needle of Death • Angie

I usually like the genre of guy finger picking and telling stories, but other than Needle of Death, which was stunning, I found very little of interest here.

I found this deeply boring, sorry, Bert!

This was pleasant. I could take it or leave it

Impressive guitar-play. But not exactly my jam. favourite: "Angie" 2,5

bon ok

Not really for me- kind of hokey rock. Bob Dylan adjacent. I could see this being an influential album for some musicians.

My mum likes this album, I'm sure. My dad has a beard because of this album, I'm sure.

Not really my thing

How many 60s singer songwriters are in this list…. I mean it’s ok…

not for me, all the songs kinda sound the same. felt like background sleepy music

Let me start off by saying this album is fine sonically. It sounds good and the singing is fine and theirs nothing egregious about it at all. However, this album is just not for me. I enjoyed the instrumentals, but his singing was a net negative for me and idk what it is about it. My favorite parts of this album were the instrumental songs.

Makes me respect Dylan more as this doesn’t sound that much different from early Bob but I don’t find it nearly as compelling. I checked to see if Bert went electric eventually…..he did not.

Downer. Best saved for a movie soundtrack

pffff! Dull.

Definitely not bad by any means, but just not very remarkable to me. Like listening to Simon and Garfunkel without all the interesting bits.

This is #day569 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's to the last-day-of-winter record. Some inoffensive mid-'60s folk with occasionally interesting guitar work. Let it be a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day570, aka the first day of spring, 2026.

Meh it's fine, Nick Drake came out less than 5 years later

You honestly could have played the same song 9 times and the album would have sounded more or less the same. You need more than a man and a guitar to make a good album.

It was ok

Folk singer not my bag

5/10 - a bit boring, harmless though

Feels like a worse Bob Dylan, and it's interesting cause he got screwed by a record company?

This guy is good Guitar player, but these songs are a bit boring. 4/10

Another not available “in my region”. So it’s either a great or crappy album.

British white guy playing the blues. He can pick a little bit, but other than that damn this one was boring. Wonder Bread and mayonnaise sandwich

Folky style with a bit or ragtime. Great folk guitar playing, songs are a mixed bunch, with most not holding my attention. A few standouts like Angie and Smokey river.

This one flew by thankfully, perfectly fine but kind of boring and not a lot of substance. The guitar work is mostly impressive, the instrumentals are the album highlight. However folk is kind of like the poetry of music, can be good but mostly uninteresting.

This lad can play guitar. Unfortunately, the songs and style weren’t really for me.

Boring

Boring

Boring. Nothing to cling onto here. Almost fell asleep.

Bit of a curio. Didn't take much from listening to it today but probably included more for the influence

A nice guitar jam session. Still a bit boring for me, though. Favorite Track: Not on the OG edition but Instrumental Medley 1964 was really nice

More dull than Peter Brady

This was kinda boring

I mean it's tolerable, but it's just not that great. I don't really know why it became so popular. I also knew almost nothing of this man and his work, even though I thought I was a doctor in Rock (and related) music.

Great album but not really my thing

The album sounds like the lack of production is a choice, but really just a marker of the time it was recorded. Intimate, simple, and unpolished which compliments the artist-and-their-guitar format well. But it also feels like going to a café to hear a local musician trying out their original songs for the first time. You can hear something good, but clearly needs more input from others. 2.5⭐️

Good album, just not really my kinda music.

It's not that interesting.

Some of the guitar was really pretty, but overall this was a very boring experience. I guess Scottish folk(?) just isn't my thing.

good, not mine

The guitars a good but the singing is tough to listen to.

There are other instruments besides acoustic guitar

I like some folk music but this one doesn't do anything for me.

This singer songwriter is good enough, but a lot of the songs lack variety. It's just Guitar and vocals. Makes me wonder, where the hell is Al Stewart on this list, how come he gets nothing and Metallica get four shit albums that all sound the same? Year of the cat, time passages or the outstanding past, present and future. One of those should be on the list.

To country for my liking

Boring. Dull and boring.

Nothing remarkable from my end.

For lovers of folk and acoustic guitar, Bert Jansch and this album is surely a good thing. But it is not something you have to listen to before you die. Never, ever. And there is no question about it. There are so many folk musicians out there doing the same thing as Mr. Jansch is doing here. His music is not bad and he is a skilled guitar player. But on this list ... ?? Well, maybe it was supposed to be a joke.

Not a bad album just kinda whatever

It was boring! Normally, I do not have a problem with albums where it is just a man and a guitar. His voice was a little too wobbly.

I am not a fan of folk music but this was a pleasant listen, even if somewhat dull. I think this would have benefited from having an actual band supporting the really excellent guitar playing. I am still glad I found this artist because I checked out their other stuff and really like the first song from the LA Turnaround album, FreshAs A Sweet Sunday Morning.

4 - BAD

Angie is a classic, but otherwise not my cup of tea

This was fine but I’m not really into a lot of folk

Smori me ovaj čovjek. Folk stvarno nije za mene.

Pleasant enough but probably will not revisit

Greit med alt som er gjort

This was damn fine music for sitting in a coffee shop in Ireland around 11am. Driving down the road it makes me sleepy. 2.5

Who? Confirmed, this is a British Top 1001, no one in the US has ever heard of the Bertster. Wow, started out wobbly. Britain's Bob Dylan? Unless we're talking about his amazing lyrics, which I didn't hear, I have no idea how this is groundbreaking, even for 1965. It's a folk singer and his acoustic guitar. No hits, nothing unique, no staying power, below average voice, unsure if he was an influence but I've never heard his name mentioned, and I've never heard a cover song... how important could this album or artist be outside of England? Guess you gotta be into folk music, and I'm clearly not. B for Boring. Every song sounded like the last. 2 stars period.

I stopped listening to Avenged Sevenfold for this? This Simon and Garfunkel meets Bob Dylan influence? Sheesh And when I make the comparison to Dylan, I mean only in the frolicking guitar sound. The lyrics are weak like Lou Reeds but it’s far less exciting as Lou’s. This is blah This is a head shaker This is going to my lawyer to see if I can sue for lost time from listening to this I even skipped to Angie thinking maybe, just maybe he wrote the Stones Angie and that was this guys claim to fame. I’d get that. Butttttt no. Not the same song though I will say I think it’s the best song on the album. So, there. Choice cut: Angie

Not enjoyable for me

I was down the Hyde Tavern last night and pretty sure this is a live recording of his spot there. He seemed to go down pretty well although everyone had had a few tbh.

Vocals killed it for me, not much there.

Well that is certainly an album to which I have now listened.

2/10 Nothing great

I really don't know enough about this type of music to really give it any substantive rating. That said, some of the tracks seemed perfect to play at place like Nowhere or out in a national park. I'm giving it two stars, only as a measure of my personal preference.

Boring

A pretty pleasant acoustic guitar time. Nothing that really grabbed me to make me want to listen to it again, but was totally fine when it was on

A little sleepy for me, dog.

Meh 2.5

The playing is objectively fantastic. I just kept drifting away from it in my head and can't really imagine going back to it.

Competent performance but a total snoozefest

Very good at strumming his guitar, but this wasn’t a particularly memorable album for me.

Absolute snooze fest of an album. I couldn't tell where one track started and one track ended because they all sound so similar. This is better suited in a children's nursery to lull them to sleep than on a list of albums that you need to hear before you die.

I can't tell you a single thing about this album aside from I found it very boring.

Not really my thing. 2/5

TIL that I think I'm over early 60s British folk. It's fine. Just incredibly dull.

Bert Jansch’s debut was pleasant to have on in the background, but it all blended together so much that nothing really stuck with me once it was over.

Male male.

Couple of nice songs but big highlight is Needle of Death. 2.5

Not a fan of most folk songs, but I'll admit to liking [Smokey River] and [Alice's Wonderland]. The rest bored me.

wasn't for me

as an album it kind of sucks. there is some amazing bits of guitar playing on it and some lovely singing. but the songs mostly don't feel like complete bits of work, merely scrapings of ideas and nice melody's. it isn't horrible and at times its quiet beautiful I just think it isnt a very good album

Made me want to end it all. I am sure it’s musically good for its genre but god it was dull

Nice. Hadn’t heard of or it before. Probably won’t return but glad for the education.

Yeah just ok at best, for me it's a poor mans Nick Drake on this album.

Had the lyrics been written by somebody with some more subtlety, and the songs been performed by someone who can sing, this might have been good.

The type of music you'd hear at an open mic night. You really wish they'd just play something you know, but they insist on playing original songs that they have written. I'd have to be in the right mood to listen to this album in full. I probably wouldn't turn it off if it was on, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it. It's all passable stuff. The chillest of vibes throughout this slightly bluesy folk album, but nothing excited me, there's nothing absolutely amazing here. It's a fairly enjoyable experience overall. There's some nice guitar work which definitely makes up for the not so strong vocals. That's all I have to say about this one really.

generic blues

01) Strolling Down the Highway - 6,0 02) Smokey River - 5,5 03) Oh How Your Love Is Strong - 5,5 04) I Have No Time - 5,0 05) Finches - 6,0 06) Veronica - 5,5 07) Needle of Death - 6,5 08) Do You Hear Me Now? - 6,0 09) Rambling's Gonna Be the Death of Me - 5,5 10) Alice's Wonderland - 5,0 11) Running From Home - 5,0 12) Courting Blues - 5,0 13) Casbah - 5,0 14) Dreams of Love - 5,5 15) Angie - 6,0 TOTAL: 5,83 (58/100)

Not horrible but in no rush to listen again.

This didn’t excite me.

this one was lost on me, failed to resonate - well someone thought it was an important album but I did not :)

Another obscure ‘60s musical soul who I’d like to like (“Angie” was pretty well-played), but who, in the end, seems like a middling guitar player with little singing acumen who would be more at home in a local coffeehouse (which I expect was his selling point in 1965) than in my ears in 2025.

Ei tää ny jotenki purassut 2/5

En ihan saanut kiinni tämän taiteellisesta arvosta. Ihan kelpo levy muttei liikauta.

Folk zegt wiki.

This was fine. Not something I would normally go for. The guitar playing was good but I feel like the songs never really went anywhere. His voice at times got on my nerves but other times were good. I think like the instrumentals all sounded solid and then it was like...okay now what. Liked Songs: "Strolling Down the Highway" , "Smokey River" , "Oh How Your Love Is Strong" , "Needle of Death" , "Running from Home"

I liked the minimalistic sound, but that is about it.

Ugh. No thanks. It was too low tone depressing for me to enjoy. I feel like there isn't even much to comment on because it was just lacking interesting aspects.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Boring acoustic folk garbage where every mumbly song sounds the same. Not aggressively terrible, but profoundly uninteresting.

Was hopeful when I heard this was a Scottish folk musician. Only occasionally could I hear his brogue! Disappointing. Especially because this album is so boring. 2/5

wie viel folk muss i no ertragen...

Nice easy listening. Just no humdingers or knee slappers. 2.5 goin down.

Lød godt men også lidt kedeligt. Fedt nok med de der instrumentale numre!

Some fine folk, but just very generic

a little too slow for my liking

Jert Bansch

The Good: You guessed it; an album named after the artist! The Bad: Nobody knows how to properly pronounce the name… The Ugly: Nobody cares… With all the lists that are floating around in the world, I still need to fully understand why this album needs listening to? It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. The style has been done by others, and much better. Chalk the experience up to one which, though definitely preferred over rap, can be skipped with ease… 2*

I think I listened to this once but forgot to rate it right away. When I listened to a bit of it, I didn't recognize it, so it went back on the list. Listened again yesterday, and at one point I was called away from my desk. I didn't note where I left off, and when I came back to it still playing, I went back to find where I left off and again, didn't recognize any of it. So I think this gets a rating of 1.5: the number of times I heard it without it making an impression on me.

comforting in a curious way

Nick Drake sans ‘tortured poet’-vibe.

Sorry, but I don't understand why this album is on this list. What did it bring to the world of music? Another album where some of its only claim to fame is that it was put on this list...

Perfectly fine piece of minimalist folk, but perplexing as to it's inclusion here.

Didn't WOW me

I think I might not be keen on folk music

Artiste inconnu. =>2/5

meh. 2.5 stars

Day415 - the only thing interesting about this is the story of led zeppelin ripping him off and not giving credit

5/10. I don't know, I just found this album somewhat dreary and boring. There are more enjoyable folk albums in the generator.

Greit med alt som e gjort

Unfortunately nothing special but not horrible

Nothing special here.

It was ok..

Generic Bob dylan

Boooooring.

This guy is a phenomenal guitar player. But I find his stuff to be a bit boring

It’s lovely in places and he’s technically brilliant. Not something I would listen to again but I can appreciate it for what it is.

Forgettable. Afterward I couldn’t tell you his name or a single song part.

Man and a guitar, simple folk music. While Bert is clearly good on the guitar, I do not enjoy his voice and the album is just not interesting or exciting. In fact it’s quite grating. I prefer the instrumentals.

whatever

Fine, but not particularly memorable.

Fancy fingerwork

I get that this was influential, it's just not for me.

Folksy vibe, meh, not bad but was not good either

Muss nicht wa Bissorl longweilig

Not for me

This album is all right. I'm generally not big on folk music, but it's fine for what it is. Can't say any of it will stick with me or I'd listen to it again, but I also didn't hate it. That said, I'm also not hearing anything essential here either.

Not bad, just doesn’t leave much of an impression. “On How Your Love is Strong” is the first song to get my ears to perk up, but most of these songs sound exactly like that. “Needle of Death” is another one. Decent stuff but most of these sound the same with different lyrics and few, if any, standout for me. Very Bob Dylan inspired it seems, which I can at least appreciate on some level.

Pretty cool sounding 60s acoustic folk. Gets a little boring after a bit since it's literally just one guy and a guitar for the whole album and he's not exactly a dynamic singer. He's a damn good guitar player though, some pretty impressive finger picking throughout the album. Overall not a very exciting album but not bad.

just bert i guess

First listen. It was ok.

i can see this being a huge treat for folk guitarists but i found it to be a big snooze

It's competent, but not very passionate or anything. C

I understand why it makes the list. Doesn't mean that I have to enjoy it.

Wasn't bad, just didn't grab me at all.

Just a guy and his guitar. Awesome playing but not my style. I'd like to give this three stars but I can't, although it is unquestionably better than most of the two star albums.

Let’s make Bob Dylan less interesting

Forgettable songs interspersed with quite good guitar instrumentals that could be the same one each time for all I know. It’s…fine.

Just some nice folk music. 2.5

Lovely music by a very talented guy, clearly. Compared to later artists like John Denver or Woody Guthrie, it feels kinda two dimensional. Although maybe it was more groundbreaking at the time.

Not a fan of the folk genre and Bert did not change my feelings. At least his voice isn't like that Dylan dude. I would have have found another musician, named Ernie. That would be awesome to see an album just titled Bert and Ernie and cover a bunch Sesame Street songs. Bring in Big Bird, The Count and Oscar to do some cameos. I think that would have been a pretty cool album. Anyway, this is none of that, so 2 it is..... 2

Consider me bored.
