Meh! He’s kinda annoying

Meh. Bob Dylan live sucks compared to his albums

She Belongs To Me – 2.5 Fourth Time Around – 3 Visions Of Joanna – 3 Its All Over Now, Baby Blue - 2 Desolation Row – 2 Just Like A Women – 3.5 Mr. Tambourine Man - 3 Couldn't be asked with the second half - 2 Average - 2.62 I like getting High and listening to Bob Dylan at a campfire or the lake. I can't see how anyone under 80 years old would go to see Bob Dylan Live let alone listen to the shitty live version after the fact and get ear raped by Harmonicacore.

What a coincidence this album showed up now. My friend was planning on coming to town next month and one of the few concerts during that time was Bob Dylan. I'm sure 1966 Dylan is no comparison for 2024 Dylan but at least it helped me definitely say that I'm not interested in seeing Bob live in present day. I've always known I didn't really care for his singing, but I thought maybe as a bucket list to see a legend it would be cool. I can't do it. I respect his writing and legacy, but the nasally, meandering vocals are like nails on a chalkboard for me. I took pride in being able to make it to the second 'Jingle Jangle' of tambourine man as that was the longest I lasted for a song before skipping up to that point. Somehow something changed in the album during "I don't believe you" that made the rest of the album tolerable. When the full band is in gear and it takes a more rock style the vocals also take it down a notch. It almost became enjoyable for the second half. Did my tolerance level up or did it really change? Who knows, but it's over now and that ma just be an unsolved mystery. Favorite track "I don't believe you" 2/5

I’m no Bob Dylan fan - and this album doesn’t help - over 1.5 hours of Dylan is not for the faint hearted. It’s not bad, don’t get me wrong but it’s essentially greatest hits album but recorded live and a live album that doesn’t really make you feel you’re part of the audience. It’s not particularly very good at either of the things it is. And if I’m going to dedicate 1.5 hours to a Dylan record - they could have been spent listening to his best ones, not this.

Bob im bored

Even less articulate than normal, Dylan is not for me.

The only good bits were the bits that he wasn’t singing

I can not be the only one who thinks he sounds like a pussy in this one The music is genius but I don’t get it, I hate to do this but I wanna give bob Dylan a bad score Second half is so much better than the first 2.9/5

I get why Dylan is considered a great songwriter. You can see it on this album from one of the most important phases of his career. Songs such as "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", "Just Like a Woman", and "Like a Rolling Stone" are classics of folk and folk-rock. They are intense, insightful, and beautiful all at once. What I don't get is why anyone wants to listen to Dylan sing these songs. On display here is his terrible vocal quality. He is offkey, nasal, monotone, and as grating as nails on a blackboard. Listening to Dylan, even at his height, is an exercise in self-loathing. Why would you torture yourself this way? He's just a terrible singer. Not "unique" or "special", just bad. You can talk about his depth, pathos, whatever but you can't deny he's a lousy singer. He takes a perfectly great song and makes it sound like cats fighting. I love Dylan's songs, but only when someone else sings them. This album showcases just how true that statement is.

I'm honestly a little confused about why Bob Dylan is so popular. He can't sing very well, he's a mumbly wierdo, his harmonica skills are middle tier. I guess he has interesting lyrics, but they're also just kind of stream of consciousness gibberish. I don't hate this album per se, but I'll never listen to it again by choice.

Just not really a fan of bob Dylan's voice

A majority enjoys lyrics the most. I am not part of that majority and that's why this becomes kinda repetetive for me. I also don't enjoy the harmonica that sounds like a child who just found one laying around and starting blowing. I like a bit of Bob Dylan, this was more than a bit.

I have my struggles with bob dylan yet. but lets see howthis album affects my opimion to him. Live Album are always a bit more harder to rate for me. Disc 1 Raiting 1/5 had almost nothing to offer to me and felt sometimes boring. Disc 2 Raiting 3/5 Finally more energy starting with "tell me, momma" and kept goin. Definetely the better side of the album. Had my attention back and got me likin few songs.

I can only take Dylan in small doses. Album was just too much.

As much as I admire Dylan, I'm not sure why this live record exists on this list. Notable in live performance for his compulsion to deviate drastically from studio arrangements, Dylan really lets loose with his own tunes here, dragging them out and around (especially on the electric side). It's long and sloppy and not so satisfying. Nevertheless, the only one that stirred me personally was this gentle rendition of 'Just Like A Woman'.

There is no doubt in my mind that he is a masterful song writer. I just hate his singing voice.

i get his contributions & if one listens closely so much poetry in his lyrics but it’s hard to listen closely

Music is great, voice is.. unique (sorry!!!!). Really good cozy background music

I just do not get it with Dylan at all

Few artist are able to pull off a change from acoustic to electric in the same show. Dylan can’t either. I understand why Dylan was a folk icon but I still have trouble with the over use of harmonica. He is a much better poet. 2 stars

3 nasal harmonica drones in and it's goodnight irene - just can't get past that voice and lack of beauty in what he puts out

No feeling

Too bob

It goes on forever.

Oh Bob. His lyrics are pretty comprehensibile on this record so I get to have the full Bob experience. I guess I can see how someone can get swept up in his lyrics, but his vocal delivery is just not my thing. Desolation Row being goddamn 11 minutes long is a workout. and a whole 95 minutes of uncut Bob is a lot to take. I don't like how his songs feel without dynamic structure. Everything feels so..... uniform? It feels like all his songs are the same chord loop, alternate A and B style lyrics, harmonica solo, repeat for however long it takes Bob to read you The Grapes Of Wrath, and then do it all over again. The second side has more promise with an actual band with him. Nah, its more of the same with a blues band. god im not going back to this one.

Well this made me like Bob Dylan less. His harmonica playing is very clunky and his vocal performances are rough, which certainly detracts from the undeniably brilliant lyrics. Even the more exciting second half had no real audible reaction from the crowd, which left it with traditional rock and roll. Finally, why is this the only bootleg in the book, when it's so far from the best? A poor choice and a poorer album.

Just not my jam

Unpopular opinion alert... I don't get the Bob Dylan praise. I mean I kind of appreciate the lyricism. But it must not be my jive. I know. I'm probably wrong. But I won't be revisiting Dylan anytime soon.

Not the biggest fan of bob dylan nor am i the biggest fan of recorded live music.

First off, the whole concept of releasing a bootleg live album with a really strange split of a half-length acoustic folk concert and a half-length rock concert seems extremely strange to say the least. I'm not a fan of live album under the best conditions. This album does not have the best conditions. Being a bootleg recording - production is simply not good, period. Unfortunately, the music is not really good either. I enjoy Bob Dylan as a songwriter, but not as a musician. There are a couple BD songs (some of them on this live album) that I thoroughly enjoy - but it's because they're very well-written and multiple studio takes, post-production and dense instrumentation make up for BD's shortcomings. In particular, that he is not a good singer. Here, production is raw, instrumentation is extremely sparse (especially on the first half) and it is painfully obvious, that Dylan just doesn't sing well. I cringed so hard during the rendition of Like A Rolling Stone - the studio version of which I truly love.

Never been a Dylan fan and I don't think I ever will be, he can't sing. 1 point added for the band in the 2nd half of the album

2/5. It's an alright live album but the studio versions sound better, especially the first half. There seems to be an annoyance doing his own songs, like he doesn't want to be singing them. The second half is good, with some chaotic playing from the backing band, and fun versions of the studio songs. Other than that, honestly not a great live album, feels pretty weak.

extremely tiresome. picked up halfway through with the addition of the full band but man 90 minutes of Bob Dylan is just not the vibe

Bofbofbof c’est pas mal long

Kinda boring and the fucking harmonica takes off a point

Why? This is a bootleg album.

This is one of the dumbest pieces of self-indulgent garbage I've ever heard. Stop playing the harmonica. There's really no need for this album on this list even if it wasn't terrible. Sad thing is, there were a lot of good songs on this album but this was an absolutely miserable experience. A couple of good efforts on the back half barely saved this from being one star.

11+ minutes of Desolation Row did it for me. Quite apt really ...

En näe mitään syytä miksi kuuntelisin uudelleen levyversioiden sijasta. Varsinkaan akustista puolta. Sähköisellä taitaa soittaa The Band. Viehättävää. Mutta vain viehättävää.

I mean it's a pretty okay Dylan bootleg. Only reason it's famous is for the Judas thing which is also cut out from the version I listened to. Honestly not that impressive. 2.5/5

annoying voice and harmonica

It's telling that the first playlist recommended under this album on Spotify is a playlist of covers of Dylan songs. He's a hell of a songwriter, but one and a half hours of Dylan is decidedly too much Dylan.

I can only handle Bob in small doses. That whiney voice just slowly grates me down. Sorry but Im gonna have to give it a twooooo.

I'll be honest - I didn't listen to the full album, only 6 tracks. Call me lame for doing that, but I could not stand listening to this album. The guy's voice is super nasally, he enunciates everything like he's just gotten off of a spinning teacup ride, and all he seems to know how to do is play 2 chords on the guitar. (There's also a lot of harmonica, but I just don't like the sound of that instrument. It's good though because usually it points to the end of the song so I don't have to listen to it anymore.) Not even the lyrics are interesting like the last album I listened to! I'm sure Bob Dylan has better stuff than this, a live album probably wouldn't be the best introduction to many artists. (If he sounds anything close to this on his studio albums I'm never listening to him again. Or any folk, for that matter.)

Not gonna listen to this.

This album is a stunning representation of one of the most controversial and pivotal moments in Dylan's career. Recorded on May 17, 1966, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, this album captures Dylan's electric performance, which sparked outrage among his fans, and marked a significant departure from his earlier acoustic folk sound. The album opens with "She Belongs to Me," showcasing Dylan's signature voice and poetic lyrics. The electric guitar and drums add a new dimension to the music, creating a raw and edgy sound that was unlike anything Dylan had done before. The album also includes other classic tracks like "Visions of Johanna," "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues," and "Ballad of a Thin Man," each one performed with intense energy and passion. The downside of the album being the overusage of harmonica combined with Dylan’s at times whiny vocals create quite an unpleasant listening experience throughout the first half of the album. The album definitely has its flaws. The sound quality is not always consistent, and some of the songs are marred by distortion and feedback, however it captures a crucial moment in Dylan's career, showcasing his transition from folk icon to rock superstar, and providing a window into the cultural and social changes taking place in the 1960s. Almost closer to a 1 than a 3 this one but the second half saves it from hitting the lowest score.

Dylan is painful to listen to. If ya wanna hear these, admittedly mostly good, songs look up some covers of 'em.

No. Trash.

This man still doesn’t know how to sing. It’s cool but I need something different from him idk what

Not his best

For some reason, the 2 Bob Dylan songs I like are at the very end of this album. Other than those 2, this was pretty boring and way too long.

Best: Just Like a Woman Worst: She Belongs to Me idk I don't really like the live stuff but well written

Okay, what about Bob Dylan's music made him famous? Everyone I've ever heard praise him agrees that it's his really good songwriting, and that his singing is actually pretty bad. I broadly agree with this sentiment. So why the hell do I need to hear a live concert recording of it? If the thing you want out of Dylan is sharp wit and you just kinda tolerate his voice, why is it essential to hear versions of these songs that are exactly the same except the audio is rougher and there's some crowd noise between numbers. I like Dylan's music. This is a slog.

Bob's singing at it's prototypical

Meh, slightly bland bob dylan outing. The live element doesn't add much for me

Znudziłem się po 3 piosenkach

I love Bob but he was fucking dreadful live

Man, fuck. I hate early Dylan’s voice so much it’s not even funny. On this album especially it truly feels like someone is impersonating him. I’m giving this a 2 because I think if someone else sang this stuff it would be good but I genuinely can’t get through this man’s voice. I Fucking hate it.

Too much harmonica in my opinion for the first half, but the second half really saved this album from being 1 star to me.

Not a Dylan fan at all.

I can do without this in my life. Too much Dylan, all at once. Too much of that voice, too much harmonica. I'm sure the songs are better than the singer. I'd prefer if he wrote songs and let others sing them.

I get why Bob Dylan is on this list, but a live bootleg didn't need to be on here, especially one with similar energy and feel to the studio counterparts. While it has a few good songs and I do like how the concert is split into an electric and acoustic halves, it as unessential as it can be.

I can see why this is a classic. Not for me.

I know Bob Dylan is an icon and a legend and he has a lovely voice, I'll give him that. But the monotone singing just doesn't do it for me. Incredibly influential, incredibly important, not my thing at all.

I've actually seen Dylan in concert and thoroughly enjoyed it, but this isn't doing it for me.

I used to hate Bob Dylan, but I like some of his work - not this, though. I can't stand the nasal-ly harmonica Dylan. It's insufferable.

Oh no Not the harmonica 2

that was too fucking long

Good songs and I get the counterculture appeal at the time but nobody needs an hour and a half if live Dylan in one sitting.

On album #141 and already at Dylan #3 ffs

I am.sorry for.Dylan lovers bit if you even make It's all ovet now baby blue sound like a bad impression of the original.it was already then time to.call it a day.

Hot take, I do not think Bob Dylan is amazing like everyone else does. Great storyteller, though.

For me, Bob Dylan is the ultimate "you had to be there" artist. My parents were Dylan's original target audience so I heard from them how important he is. This is also echoed by a lot of other Boomers, like Rolling Stone including 11 Dylan albums on the Top 500 Albums of All Time list. Younger listeners are constantly told that he's great by people who cared about that 60s folk scene and protest music from that era. That protest music doesn't resonate with me since I didn't have any sort of Vietnam equivalent and I'm not naive enough to think dudes strumming acoustic guitars with some oblique poetry is going to get the US out some foreign military adventure. I don't think any discussion about Dylan doesn't include being hectored by someone about his "importance". So it's been decreed that he is so. I like some Dylan songs, but I don't obsess over the lyrics as great poetry. I don't obsess over Ginsberg's word salad either (another you had to be there guy). Some songs like Desolation Row are interesting lyrically, but that's my other problem with Dylan. When he's playing with a full band, there's enough to get into musically so you aren't stuck with some basic strumming, aggressive and screechy harmonica, and that voice that is never described as good, but charitably as "distinctive" (if not worse). The folky part at the beginning is dull and highlights the least appealing parts of Bob Dylan. The second part is better and is the Dylan I can get behind more. "One Too Many Mornings" is a good example that shows how exciting Dylan can be when he gels with a good band. That said, it's still a mixed output from an artist that I will think is somewhat overrated because there's no way he will ever be as important to me as he is to the people who came before me.

Live. Buff. Pues bastante aburrido o tranquilo no sé cómo calificarlo.

An hour and a half of this? Never again. I have no love for Bob Dylan, he's talented, but I find him a bit insufferable. Guitar, whiney singing, then a harmonica solo... repeat ad nauseam. Thank the lord he's joined by a band in the back half of the album.

im goin to go deaf from this fuckign harminoca bob!

a weird amount of harmonica solos very bob Dylan, doesn't sound much different than his studio stuff 2.5

Bob Dylan style is unique, you love it or hate it, it seems to be that there's no middle point. In this album, the first half is so boring, the old Dylan singing with his guitar and the infinite armonica, however the second half have more energy but it doesn't make it less boring. For me Dylan is a great writer but a "bad" musician, but even that doesn't make the lyrics more clear it's just an enjoyable literature disaster.

he's overrated

The first track seemed like an experiment in making a harmonica make the most irritating possible noise. I just can't get into Dylan. Something about his weird intonation while singing makes me think he's just trolling. I think my problem is that I am unable to believe he's not making it sound weird on purpose and that just makes me constantly ask the question of, "WTF are you trying to accomplish by sounding like this?" Because it sounds terrible.

For the love of god Tambourine Man just play him his stupid song so he’ll shut up about it. Some of these songs would be quite good if they weren’t drowned in harmonica and if someone else sang them.

People paid, got on the subway, stood in line, and spent about 3 hours inside to listen to this? And then other people and some of the same ones paid to listen to a recording of it? And then these people and many more would spend decade blubbering about its importance? If this inspired you to write some "no frills folk music" in the year of our lord 2022, I need you to know that this does no mean you don't need to know a second strumming pattern. I beg of you to learn a second strumming pattern. In the second half, there is at least some dynamic musicianship (so I agree with his detractors at the time that it is extremely un-Dylan). This also forces Dylan to actually do something with his voice and the songs to be different from each other. Also, the singing is broken up by some guitar noodling, keyboard solos and Bobby D indiscriminately blowing random harmonica chords at will as opposed to the sound of the pipe I intermittently hear in my bathroom after 10 pm. Does that mean I tacitly agree with the official Dylan narrative about him knowing what would stand the test of time, in that I actually like the electric half? No. But is it at least damn interesting by virtue of being an important historic document? Also no.

I like Bob Dylan - well, the concept of Bob Dylan. His music has been deeply influential and profound, but you really have to a) be from that generation, or b) really enjoy this genre. I like this to a point, but what really sours me on this album is that it's live. I don't know what it is about live albums, but I have a strong aversion to anything live. On the whole, this one is a dud for me.

2nd Bob Dylan album I’ve gotten. I really want to like his music. He’s so legendary, but man his voice is just so rough. And man that harmonica was shrill to the ears. Points for the art/creativity to the lyrics, very story like.

A bit too slow, and not a huge fan of his voice

Hmmm, another Bob Dylan album. This one's a live one, so a bit of different take on things. But still, as with the previous 3 Bob Dylan albums suggested, I'm left feeling like I should have enjoyed them more. Not unpleasant but equally not much lasting interest.

I think I liked side 2 because of the implementation of electric guitar in these songs, otherwise I wasn't really thrilled with this album.

1. the harmonica just overpowered everything 2. literally missed the second one 3. third one is meh i lasted 3 and a half songs, i just can not take this style

Not super exciting.

I think part of my dislike is how it's recorded. Just didn't vibe with it fr

Listen, there’s already several studio Dylan albums on this list. This was put out in 1998, we couldn’t have picked another album from that year (Mezzanine from Massive Attack isn’t on this list, I though critics loved that one?) I know why this is on the list too. This would have got a high rating from one of the boomer writers they had on staff at Rolling Stone, then every main stream publication from Entertainment Weekly to People magazine would have followed suit and reviewed it the same.

5/26/2022 - ALBUM #119 Today's Album: "Live 1966: The Royal Albert Hall Concert" by Bob Dylan - I think I really just have to veto this one and choose to review the first disc of this album. The entire thing is an hour and a half long and as decent as Bob Dylan is, this recording is not produced or mixed well enough for me to sit through an incredibly grating harmonica and rather boring songwriting in my opinion for that long. I really respect Bob Dylan as an artist and I think a lot of this material is great, but it is just not something I can sit through. It might sound petty, but it seriously is just how this harmonica is mixed in the recording. It's so fucking loud and it's one of the worst instruments to have that happen with in my opinion. I know he is a great songwriter in terms of the story telling of his work, but he really just cannot sing and it's been a problem since I listened to the first album by him the generator gave to me. If I want some absolutely mindless bullshit to turn on on a road trip, I would throw his music on as decently enjoyable background noise, but being a live recording, having to hear the audience applause and the aforementioned harmonica just gets so so annoying and unbearable. Overall, I know Dylan writes some decent songs, but knowing that I can barely get through his studio records without falling asleep, his live album is obviously really not my thing. Give this a listen if you are a hardcore Dylan fan but otherwise leave it alone for sure. Highlights: N/A - VETO Score: ?/10 I just cannot do this one I am sorry

grr i know that bob dylan is VERY influential and for that i give kudos but man he is hard to listen to… it’s just the voice and the high pitched harmonica make me angry.

I don't understand how anyone can stand this dudes voice and singing style. It's excruciatingly difficult to listen to.

Fucking hell Bob, hurry it up will you?

Ballad of a Thin Man...

Honestly found it pretty boring. Really points out how many of his songs are the same pace, tone, and instruments. The Dylan sound was turned up to 11.

Not a great live album

Can't deny his influence, but I'm not a huge fan of his voice. It works in some of his biggest hits, for me, but listening to 90 minutes of this concert I got pretty tiredl

Too many Dylan albums on this list. Do we really need to listen to all the same songs again, but sung live. NO. I'm not a Dylan fan. I do like his songs but I get Dylan-burn out really quick. No interest in listening to this one again. If you are a fan, then this would be a great listen. 2/5.

Not sure if he intended to sing as a caricature of himself for the first half.

Not for me

it is what it is. nice enough but not by bag especially

eg nenni ekki að hlusta a live plötur no offense ætla að hlusta á chief keef í staðinn

Quäck. Fiep.

I only know Bob Dylan from the introduction sequence from Watchmen movie released in 2009. Said sequence was a succinct summary of the major events of the 1970s, with Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changin' playing in the background. It was the highlight of the movie, and sadly, the only time I will ever really care for the works of Bob Dylan. This live album was, to this writer, a chore. Listening to Bob Dylan wheeze his way through songs that are a mix of folksy country, blues and other old-world genres. I'm sure it appeals to some people, given Mr Dylan's regard in both the musical and literary world (he did win a Nobel Peace Prize in Literature after all), but this was just not my cup of tea.

Credit to Dylan for his live sound. However this album was terribly boring for me. The first half of acoustic songs all blend into one long drone of ole BD. The 2nd half is better, but could not rise me from my bored state

Usually not a fan of live albums unless it’s Audiotree. But I’m open minded.

Didn’t enjoy Dylan’s vocals on this album

January 15th 2022. First time listening to Bob Dylan. I know he's iconic but I just can't with his voice. I assume it's part of his charm, but I can't stand how it sounds. I don't like live albums either so this is just not for me. And with only his voice, a guitar and a harmonica for the first half of the album, it becomes more and more boring to listen to. At least the songs become more lively on the second half, and his voice fits the music better. The best of this album IMO: - Tell Me, Momma 2.4/5

Dylan's voice is atrocious. Lyrics and poetry are to be applauded, but acoustic side is a bit boring. Electric Hawks/The Band stuff is much more fun.

Live man

didn't even bother but we've had that much dylan and i've heard him mumbling through live renditions before so i can guess what its like.

Really not my thing

I'll stick to the studio versions. You could show up 45 minutes late to this show and not miss a damn thing. Highlight tracks: Disc 2: 2, 3

someday maybe I will appreciate the music of Bob Dylan, but not today.

I guess you need to like Bob Dylan…

A rare time I looked up the public reviews on this site, and I'm glad it seems a lot of people are whelmed as hell with this record. I like Bob Dylan, but aside from some energetic strumming, the first side is extremely, extremely, *extremely* long. The second disc has more of a pulse, but I feel like the damage has been done by that point. I'm somewhat amazed I made it through this entire thing. Favorite tracks: "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues", "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat"

2/5 not really :(

He’s a legend for good reason, but there’s only so much Bob you can take in one sitting… prefer Budokan

I get Dylan is/was a genius, that in his time he was some sort of a prophet, and he does have the occasional hit, but generally speaking: I find his music quite boring.

I can understand why people liked Bob Dylan, however it is not my jam at all, way too folksy and kind of a whiny voice overall - kind of difficult to listen to over 1.5 hours. Best: Mr. Tambourine Man Worst: Desolation Row

I was surprisingly disappointed. I thought me to like Bob Dylan, but somehow one song sounds like the other. Sadly a 2/5 for me... barely

I still don’t get it.

I've never been enamoured of Dylan's work, and usually prefer it performed as a cover by other artists. This was fun to listen to, though a little dull and unadventurous for a live album.

"Bringing It All Back Home" was a perfect way to introduce a person to Bob Dylan and why he's revered. This album, however, seemed more for the existing big fans. My spouse and I both made the observation that it sometimes sounded like someone making an over-the-top, mocking imitation of "Bob Dylan." Some of the songs really went on forever. Giving it a quick second listen, I know I might have liked it better with the proper setting and time to appreciate it. But I'm scoring it as music listened to while cooking dinner, and I just really couldn't take any more of his voice.

Well I'm starting to notice lyrics really don't matter that much to me. Music is more about rhythm and melody to me. Bob doesn't have that great a voice.

I like the "Lay Lady Lay", "Tangled Up In Blue", "Nettie Moore" Dylan. But when his singing style is like is on this album....it just doesn't do much for me beyond one or two songs.

a bit whiny

Not an album. Why would they put live recordings in the book. Especially when there already appears to be 97 Dylan albums in the book. I understand that it is a big moment in his career, but there are many things that had big moments in music that aren't albums and aren't in the book. Too many verses on desolation row, too much harmonica on this album, too much Dylan in this book. 2nd half is better than the first, less harmonica, his voice is less front and centre.

Couldn’t get through the first half. Second half is better, but still not for me.

He's lost me again. Pacing was off, lots of songs started sounding like the last

Fuck live albums. I don't know if his songs aged badly, but I just can't enjoy them.

Meh. I do not care for the way Bob Dylan sings. I am not sure the whole album was a available but that is ok.

this is alriht but not my favorite album.

Aburre hasta a las ovejas.

live album cringe

I feel like a cat in heat has been outside my window for the past hour or so

Never liked bob dylan…

2.5. I think Dylan could grown on me. Desolation row was good stuff but find his voice hard to listen to

I know it's classic Dylan but I'm just not a fan.

Terrible opening track. Band stuff got better

Not my kinda music. 2/5

Pretty great live/bootleg recording capturing Dylan's transition from acoustic to electric, but this recording removes the audience reaction. It really loses all of its tension. Definitely loses a lot of it's importance/relevance to this list without it. Fav Songs: Visions of Johanna and Like a Rolling Stone. Rating: 2.5/5

First half was a struggle, second half was more my kind of Dylan. Best track: Like a Rolling Stone

Not my cup of tea. Tried but couldn't get through it.

Don't care for this.

No es mi estilo

He's a good songwriter, don't love his voice...

He defined a generation... however, some of these songs are a tad too long for me.

I'm sorry. Bob might be great, and some of these songs classics, but his live recording really emphasize his end of phrase dylanesque up-talking. It's distracting. Nothing really amazing here.

live dylan is the worst dylan

I mean, it is Bob Dylan but there's a lot of Bob Dylan on this list.

If I had a physical copy of this, I would give disc 1 to Alex, and only keep disc 2. Miss me with Bob by himself with his guitar and harmonica, and give me his band please. That's not to say the first half doesn't have value, as Dylan is incredible at setting a mood, drawing emotion from his audience, and telling a story through a song. It's just too bad that I hate him as a vocalist, with the characteristic affectations and vocal swings absolutely driving me mad. By the time the band comes in though, either I was getting used to it, or his ability as a songwriter was coming through more clearly, as I was genuinely enjoying it. Either way, I don't think I'm gonna be a Bobbo fan anytime soon.

sorry but this was so fucking boring and that harmonica made me wanna scratch my eyes out. there was very few songs that I could actually listen to in completion. sorry

Not a Dylan fan

I know he's a legend, but never really been my thing. I'll give it a go. Not my cup of of tea.

@@. Just can't get into him.

Just not my cup of tea!

More Dylan. He plays the hits, it’s a live album. It’s not for me

I respect Bob, but I just can't get past the wobbling voice.

too slow and winey

Lyrical complexity did not compare to the fat harmonica jams.

Absolute rubbish. I suffered through this album and almost turned it off at one point through Tambourine Man. I managed to listen through to the end which is the only reason I've not given it a 1. But only just!

fine live album, don't think any versions stand out as 'must hear' live versions however very cool this recording exists in such good quality for superfans of Dylan

I'm not a fan of Bob Dylan or live albums. A live double album from Bob Dylan is almost torturous.

Not a fan of Bob Dylan, his voice just grates on my ears. Somehow his voice was even more annoying on this live album. Was really hard to make it through this one.

I usually roll my eyes about the whole nasally voice or the piercing harmonica playing. Check my other Dylan reviews. But this live recording, those two things put me off big time. I tried twice, thinking I was being too hard the first time. I actually ended up more annoyed. Controversial rating, here I come. 1/5

Can't believe that woman yelled 'jewish' at our mate Zimmerman. Before the Flood is the best Dylan live album, cheers. Are there no Cat Power albums on this list. That's fucked. One star review is for Dimery.

I just don’t get it. I like the harmonica parts, but that’s about it. I feel like there is really nothing of substance in this music, and I’d rather spend my time listening to anything else.

i dont like bob dylan

Sweet Christ. Bob Dylan. Again! I feel like I've listened to everything Dylan has ever done now. They can't ALL be essential, can they? I get that this is the show of the famous 'Judas' comment (sadly missing from the version I listened to) and I appreciate what that moment means in the history of popular music, but it's a moment to read about rather than listen to. This is not an essential album - it's a badly recorded live record. Yes, it captures a pivotal time in Dylan's evolution, and in the wider history of popular music, but it's just a crappy live record. I've had more fun at the dentist.

I truly don’t understand why Bob Dylan has the critical acclaim and fame he does. His voice is horrendous and the harmonica worked my nerves. This is one of the only albums I had to split across several pats of the day as opposed to just going through it in one full sweep. I hope this is the only Bob album on this list because I don’t think I can take anymore of this.

God this is so bad . His voice is awful, k whiny and he can barely hold a note, it’s painful. His guitar playing is basic and the harmonica use is OTT. Granted there are decent songs here but not with this interpretation for other artists. Side 2 is slightly better due to the intervention of the band but even they can’t save this. When I think of all the fabulous artists that don’t even have one album on this list… Baffling

Voice and harmonica was just annoying

No me gusta como canta

How to write a Bob Dylan song: 1): Write some genuinely good lyrics to ruin 2): Clip a clothespin over your nose to replicate his nasally weasel voice as you sing 3): Once you’ve run out of lyrics, practice eating out your wife on your harmonica for 45-90 seconds to conclude the song 4): Repeat for the first half of this album Can you believe that some in the audience heckled him for using a band in the second half of the concert?? His band actually knows how to play music and their presence redeems what little there is to redeem about this album

Por um segundo, o meu desejo foi dar zero :-( ) **************************************** // *********************************** It’s a bit hard for me to give Bob this “rating,” since it’s a classic and its value is priceless — no one disputes that. However, I must say a few things, because the experience of listening to this album was truly difficult and distressing: 1) A live album shouldn’t be on a list like this! It’s one thing to go to a live show to hear, see, and feel the experience, to get swept up in everything that’s happening there! Listening to a live album means dealing with, as was the case here, a ton of problems; 2) Since I was annoyed with my luck for having gotten this album, I did some research and learned that during the second set, Bob was booed and the show was anything but pleasant! Knowing that this album was released and that all of that is lost is bad faith; it’s a total rip-off. Therefore, my opinion that this album shouldn’t be on this list and that this experience was anything but pleasant is reinforced; 3) The recording is extremely long. Listening to Bob’s nasal voice for an hour and a half, plus the harmonica and whatever else, for an hour and a half ceases to be art and becomes torture. I could go on, but I think these reasons are enough to say, with complete certainty and in full possession of my mental faculties—“sorry, Bob, but I’d rather die than listen to this again” 1/5 (can you give a zero? For a second, I wanted to give it a zero :-( )

Objectively, I hate Bob Dylan. He's a great songwriter, but I hate his voice and his songs all have the same structure which make them boring to me. This recording isn't anything special to me, it sounds like he's on the studio recording a greatest hits compilation.

escuche 2 temas y me dormí.

Pretty much unlistenable.

LIterally could not listen to this hot steaming pile of garbage. I feel bad for the musicians that had to work with this grating voice.

Alternating between boring and grating. I’m sure the lyrics are good, but if I have to listen to him sing them, it’s not going to end well. 2/10 Marginal

I don't like live albums I don't like Bob Dylan I don't like this.

No me llegó su música! No es mi estilo

wow uh…. lots of harmonica and whiny vocals that i wasn’t expecting. by song 2 i just wanted the album to be over tbh did not enjoy musically

Luck of the draw. I've never been a fan of Bob Dylan, but that's not because I have some utter disdain for his music. I assume it's because I just haven't had enough exposure to it. His Nobel Prize for Literature is well deserved, One of my reasons for taking on the 1001 Albums was to get more exposure to classic albums I have yet to hear! And by luck of the draw, my first Dylan album was this live recording. Turns out this is not at all how I want to hear Bob Dylan. This is a horrible first impression for someone to have for him, for a few different reasons. For one, the singing. I don't know most of these songs, and I wouldn't even be able to gather the content of each song in this recording unless I was reading along with all the lyrics. Then there's the mixing. In the acoustic set, the harmonica will often drown out the guitar completely. During the electric set, there are multiple songs where Dylan's singing sounds very distant, and the whole recording seems to switch from the soundboard to the quality of an actual bootlegged tape. I didn't enjoy listening to this at all, I can't see myself ever going back to it. But for hardcore Dylan fans, if it's any consolation, I have the utmost respect for the guy. When asked about the infamous "Judas" incident (the only thing about this recording that I would've been interested in, if it wasn't cut out) he said "All those evil motherfuckers can rot in hell." Nice guy.

90 minutes of nasal vocals, boring, drawling songs and frequent bouts of eardrum-piercing harmonica? Seriously, fuck off. Petition to ban the instrument starts now.

Not going to listen to Dylan live I'm afraid. Really don't get him at all.

I don’t understand why people like Bob Dylan, it’s so boring. And annoying: 30 seconds into this album and I want to switch it off again immediately.

I really never could get in to Dylan. While I don't hate his music its something I would rather switch of if I have the option. I have tried different albums and songs throughout the years since so many love him and swear by his music. I haven't hear him life before today so I tried to have as an open mind as I can and listened through. Its not any better, in many aspects its worse. His mumbling made the few songs I kind of enjoy not enjoyable. A total miss for me.

fuck bob dylan and his fuckass harmonica

I am not listening to this.

DNF, Too much nasal singing and harmonica for my taste.

Have you ever noticed that ol' Bob is usually in photographs by himself? Here's the thing, he's got a MASSIVE head. I'm not even talking about how comically large it is on his thin frame but when you do see him in a picture with another person his watermelon is even more noticeably large when you see what a regular sized cranium is supposed to look like. Is he just pictured with people that possess pea heads at all times? Oh, clearly he is a talented songwriter (the media has told me so since before he became famous) and influential. His voice ruins any of the faux poetry he is caterwauling though whatever song he is playing. At least this live recording really puts his vocals in the forefront so you can really lean into his odd annunciations and that sweet sweet nasally voice. How many times is Robert Allen Zimmerman going to be on this list? However many times it is it's that many times too many for me.

I’m officially done with Bob Dylan. I’m not listening to this completely unnecessary hubris. It might be good but this project has exhausted me of him and I have no intention of finding out if it is. Everything about Bob is OVER-FUCKING-RATED. 0/5

It was hard to stay 1:30 hrs listening to this boring record. 1st part had no drums and I was literally suffering: Second part was little better, I would probably rate it 2/5.

I like Dylan but I can't abide his voice on here.

His voice is grating. The harmonica is grating. This album was grating.

Ok, I'm putting my foot down. I am not about to listen to a bunch of live recordings of Bob Dylan songs, of which, I guarantee you, are from albums already on this list. There's too many live albums on this generator and it's beginning to get to me. Stop it.

Good god I cannot stand his whiny nasally voice.

I don't think I'll ever be a Bob Dylan fan. The acoustic half of this is like nails on a chalkboard to me. Guitar is fine but very subtle in the mix compared to Bob's annoying voice and the ear-splitting harmonica. Can't do it. The electric stuff is saved a bit by the band being very good, but Bob's voice is only marginally better and that damn harmonica is still piercing. Still nothing I would ever choose to listen to.

- Another misogynist Zio domestic abuser. This list is basically a who’s who of who not to support. I’m starting to get embarrassed that people think I support Zios, pedos, and misogynists when they hear the music coming from my place. I feel dirty doing this challenge. - His guitar playing is pretty uninspired, and the acoustic portion with just him and his guitar isn’t super interesting - he could definitely use instrumentation support… and I’m not talking about the harmonica, which was a lot to take sitting at home - maybe at a show, which I know this is, but I’m not there. Well, I just listened to the second side, and the instrumentation doesn’t help much. - This guy thinks his storytelling is soooo interesting… quoting his lyrics sums it up “little boy lost, he takes himself so seeeeriouslyyyy”. Unfortunately, the music isn’t interesting enough to want to tune into the lyrics, so it ends up being a whole lot of nothing, especially with this crap recording quality where you can’t really distinguish what he’s saying. - Visions of Johanna and Desolation Row exemplify everything that I don’t like about a lot of his music… droning verses that go on forever with nothing interesting to hold on to. Not much in the way of melody, and his vocal affectations get as annoying as the harmonica because it’s the same thing over and over. Out-of-tune nasal, whiny talk singing over barely-there musical support. - Fourth Time Around was nice. I usually like Tambourine Man, but he ruined it on this almost 9-minute version with the worst singing I’ve heard from him in a while - he sounds totally wasted. Ditto on "Like a Rolling Stone” - so out of tune… he can’t hit the notes at the best of times, but absolutely not even close live. - Overall, this never-ending album felt so pretentious. The very mid clapping after the songs just made me feel like this was a bunch of boring people at a very anemic concert. The solo man, guitar, and harmonica-vibe (for the first half) feels like it should be at a campfire and like you had to be there. - The second half is more energetic, but I was still bored/annoyed because the songs did nothing for me and the recording was not clear enough. - It’s a no from me.

Might be a hot take, but I don't like his voice at all. Harmonica fire tho.

Live album.

In my opinion, Bob Dylan is overrated. Maybe his lyrics are great. If I want lyrics, I read real writers—not songwriters—or philosophers. I don't like his settings or his voice. 1/5

Bob Dylan is an artist best covered and not directly listened to, like how they have to look at the melted down core of the Chernobyl nuclear plant via a series of mirrors to prevent radiation exposure, except instead of radiation it's harmonicas.

Meh? Meh. Bob Dylan isn't really my jam, and Bob Dylan when the recording quality of the live show makes it difficult to make out anything in particular makes it a subpar listening experience. Sure, historically important and all, but as an album to be listened to, it was rough enough that I almost tapped out several times. Also the mixing on the harmonica was ear-piercingly shrill. Oof.

I tried to pick this one up, but i could not catch it and it landed on the floor. Sorry, not sorry.

I think I'm just not into Bob Dylan at all. The music itself is gratingly static, and folk is meant to be the realm of the storyteller but his lyricism is horribly basic. I deserve a medal for getting through 11.5 minutes of Desolation Row. The second half is a solid improvement, but if the second half is a 2/5 and the first is a 0/5, a 1 seems fair.

Really wanky and terrible to listen to. I'm part of the "Bob Dylan's inflection is really annoying to listen to" camp. The electric side is a touch better because Dylan's boring chord progression and harmonica melodies are not as central. But not by much.

Sorry gang but I am now officially a certified Bob Dylan non-enjoyer

I really couldn't enjoy the first CD, his vocal swooping and very droopy harmonica were too much for me. Several times I thought "wow this guy is doing too much for his bob dylan impression" then I remembered it was bob dylan. The second CD is fun though! His talky singing works for me when there's other instruments playing. But in both halves I can't enjoy the parts where his words get really slurred & unintelligible I suspect that the first Bob Dylan album I got from the list will be my least favorite (I already know I like Freewheelin' Bob Dylan pretty well)

This album is a real hat trick of things I hate in albums: Bob Dylan (perhaps the worst singer to be famous for singing), Live Album (terrible sound quality songs that are already in other albums), and a double LP (way too long, this does not need to be an hour and a half long). Astonishingly, this album is significantly worse than Dylan's 6(!) other albums on the list, and I really see no reason for it to be on this list at all. I honestly think this may be the worst album on the list, and I really, truly wish I could give it 0 stars.

Dreary and dull. Guy can write but let someone else sing.

And, not a fan

One of the most boring albums I have had the misfortune of listening to. There is no need for a song over 11 minutes. I don’t think I will ever understand the decision for a harmonica in EVERY. SINGLE. SONG! He sounds like a chain smoker with constipation.

I know he’s an icon, and I get that. But, no thanks

I thought Bob Dylan could not sound worse until I heard him sing for a live performance. Holy shit, few people sound worse singing live. I should not have to hear his mouth sounds right in my ear as he practically swallows the mic. An absolutely unbearable hour and a half.

Hard to imagine anything being worse than this fraud’s studio albums, but this tuneless caterwauling manages it.

can't stand bob dylan, sorry

No, no, no. There is absolutely no need for a live Bob Dylan album to be on this list. Not when there are already 6(!) other Bob Dylan albums on this list.

i've been good and listened to every album, but i draw the line here. i'mnot listening to a live unofficial bob dylan album. i refuse. instead i'm listening to by far the list's biggest snub, the infmaous by mobb deep. that gets a 5/5. drink away the pain is underrated.

Live albums only really work when you know the songs. I know three: desolation row (thanks mcr), mr tambourine man and like a rolling stone. I can't say I loved this. Bob Dylan is okay when recorded, but gosh lay off of the harmonica PLEASE! It's nice sometimes but not **that** much !!

What a boring drone of nonsensical word mumbled together to form something akin but not quite like music.

Oh my God, Bob Dylan? Immediate five stars!!!!! Let the Mavericks chase him!!!

Still despise his music

I get it, Bob Dylan is a legend. He's a legendary songwriter and absolutely deserves to be part of the discussion of music history. Now that that's out of the way I'm not sure how to respond to Live 1966. I'll break it into 2 parts because its essentially two sides from the the same live show. Starting with the opening acoustic folk half it has all of the signature Dylan that confuses and annoys me. His vocal style is so out of control at times to the point where it sounds like a cartoon character. The various parodies I've heard of his style don't do justice to just how unhinged it gets in reality at times. Some people love this aspect and for me its some fun and games for a few minutes and then just kinda somber and annoying. I recognize why Dylan had an impact, but I don't personally want to suffer through it. The back half features Dylan with electric guitar and backing tracks from The Hawks/The Band featuring a lot of organ/keyboard. I definitely enjoyed the electric half of the setlist more, though that is a low bar to clear. It's got the other side of Dylan's typical schtick with harmonica and rambling vocals. Again, fine in doses but nothing I need for any extended length. I'm well aware of Bob Dylan's live music career and the way this list is constructed I should have expected some live Dylan. I think it's a deserving entry for its/his place in music history and the impact the Bob Dylan going electric had even if it isn't my cup of tea. Glad to have some background on it but not something I need to hear again. 1.47 stars

Listening to this album has me thinking there is significant meaning behind every song and I really just don’t understand. I listened to this with Will on our road trip to Indiana and we both agreed when listening that we just don’t get it. I appreciate the harmonica and now I wanna learn to play.

I don't really think I can handle an hour and half of dissonant, seesawing vocals and tinny harmonica sounds

just terrible, bob dylan is a fraud

Could not make it through a single song

Paska.

How on earth is there such a difference between the first and the second album? I'm tired of it.

Given Dylan's other albums on the 1001 list, we didn't really need this Live album... sure, the contrast (an heckling) between side one and two is an interesting Wikipedia footnote, but not enough to spend 90 minutes on. One thing that I've learnt about myself during this 1001 albums journey... how much I dislike the harmonica!

Exceedingly boring. Nasally voice and very dull.

1 Not my thing

A sonoridade me machuca muito. 1/5

The 5th(!) Dylan record I had to endure. Whimsy-whiney americana bla. Can‘t stand it anymore. Especially as there are also a lot of Springsteen and Neil Young records in the mix..

Some good songs, some crap, all massacred.

Mediocre quality recording with squeaky harmonica, uninnovative guitar and nasally mumbled vocals making up some leftover Folk Rock sandwich gone bad.

His voice is SO ANNOYING

Nope. Dylan can’t sing. His vocal lilts and nasal twang are so off putting. Made it through a bit of the album and then promptly turned it off.

If fans are heckling you at a concert maybe that’s a clue that you shouldn’t release this as a live album. First half was genuinely a painful waste of time. Second half was a bit more tolerable but even the harmonica seems to screech for help

The first half with just him and the harmonica was brutal, then the band came in and I got excited, only to be let down again

leave that harmonic alone pls

super wack

Did not care for it.

I really don’t get how people like this guy

Not for me 👎

Fucking Dylan

NOT a Bob Dylan fan.

Yet another reason why I hate Bob Dylan. It was not helped by it being a double album. Do people actually listen to this for enjoyment or just to annoy their pets? The only saving grace was 'Like a Rolling Stone'. I always say an artist has one classic in them and that is his. But it's not enough to give this any more than a 1 star.

I’ve always hated Bob Dylan’s voice. No slight against him, purely personal.

Just 85 minutes of annoying noise. It seems his strange singing cadence is exaggerated in his live performances. The live recording of the full band is not very well recorded, so my best description of this entire album. is "85 minutes of unpleasant noises". Why Bob needs to be on this list 7 times, I'll never know. Seems the editors lacked imagination. I have to put something on the 1001 playlist. But I don't want to. Thinking "Leopard Skin Pill-Box Hat" just because it's hard to mess up a classic blues progression. It was the least offensive to my ears.

Not for me. 1/5

Not sure if it was the recording or the speakers I'm using but the harmonica on this hit painful levels for me. I guess the second half was better because less harmonica.

There are 7, yeah that's right fucking SEVEN, Bob Dylan albums on this list. To be blunt, there is exactly one reason that this album is on this list, and its because it shows the response to Bob going electric because he changes to electric halfway through this album and got booed. BUDDY I was booing Bob Dylan from song one of this album, you fuckers from '66 don't got nothing on me, I'd have been revolutionary in my hating on Bob Dylan. Anyway, Bob Dylan sucks, he sings like hes making fun of himself and his songs are boring, if I'm giving Tom Waits, a 30 times more interesting artist, a 1 or 2 then poor bobby over here will live in the lowest depths of onedom. Also electric bobs better then folk bob. Allegedly someone yells "Judas" at bob at some point right before "Like a Rolling Stone" on this album but I just don't hear it, maybe they cut it out of the copy I was listening to? The wikipedia page says that the crowd was hostile to him switching to electric but both halves the crowd sounds the same to me.

Ugg... thats two Bob Dylan albums in the same week. His voice grates on me. Listened to first disc, couldn't face the second one.

I can't handle live albums, sorry bob

This list has made me realize I really don't like Bob Dylan. He's just painful to listen to. The story behind this record, that is to say this concert, is interesting - but not really. Not enough to warrant me having to listen to it. Also, the album wasn't available on my streaming service, so I had to listen on YouTube, where all the banter and heckling between songs was apparently removed. If that's why this album is a must listen, then I am disappointed. Not in that I didn't hear it, but in why it's on this list. I think maybe I need to try listening to covers of Bob Dylan songs to maybe appreciate the songs more, because, damn, Bob Dylan is awful to listen to sing. When Jimmy Fallon does his Bob Dylan impression, it's no parody; it's a genuine and faithful imitation. Bob Dylan is a parody of himself. I'm going to skip any more Bob Dylan records on this list. Two strikes and you're out. I'm not coming back for a third.
