Reviews (page 7 of 7)
I never liked Morrisey this doesn’t change my opinion.
Fuck off Morrissey, your music is boring and somehow still not the most offensive thing about you.
Love The Smiths hate Morrissey
Polished, mid-tempo arrangements built from tidy guitar riffs, discreet string swells, steady drumming, and Morrissey’s carefully enunciated, melodramatic vocals move this pop-rock album like pacing through a softly lit drawing room—earnest and self-aware, yet so painfully mellow and measured that the emotion never quite rises above polite restraint.
Was not expectating that at all whaaatttttt u fat pig
2/14 Bland, boring, forgettable. Shit album
can't get into his style at all
I surprisingly enjoyed Vauxhall and I despite my dislike of Morrissey's vocals, his personality and his politics. You are The Quarry is less charming and more overtly whinny and you can see the beginnings of shift rightwards. Did not enjoy.
Refuse to listen to this. Morrissey is the WORST. Happy to give it a 1 star though.
Nope, I am done with this guy... Somehow you made me hate a protest song. Sentiment I agree with but your lyrics are so grating. Then seriously....lesbians are created because their husbands aren't good to them...STFU. His music drips with self righteous pretentiousness but his lyrics are so pedestrian and the music is nothing amazing, just something you could find on any 80's album. Morrissey, I know big words too and I cannot help but observe that your habitual prioritization of your own perceived brilliance, combined with a resolute resistance to cognitive expansion, renders your music (and likely your personality) profoundly and exhaustingly objectionable.
Ej
i did not like this wtf morrissey
This one didn’t do it for me.
One Morrissey album too many. His political songs were awful and the others were just plain boring. I'm still glad this project has turned me onto some great music by him and The Smiths, but I'm good on Morrissey for a good long while now, thank you very much.
Pointless
I like the smiths and that has little to do with Morrissey. I certainly cannot stand him on his own. I got three songs in before I got sick of Morrissey whining. For the love of god shut the fuck up
It's like he stole some 16 year old girl's diary and copied it word for word. Personally, I feel is no art to Morrissey's music, he might as well be an accountant. You Know I Couldn't Last is probably the best of the album because while it is still sounds like he's singing about his shopping list (literal, factual) it at least sounds like something he's experienced (not the 16 year old who's diary he lifted, see above).
fuck me this was absolutely dreadful
Awful.
This isnt really for me. Too soft slow and whiny.
1/5. I do dislike it; however, this is the first time I have listened to this genre. His deep voice is wonderful it melts goes well with the melancholic and cold topics. This is not the type of music I would listen to listen more.
Fuck Morrissey, and fuck this list for putting him on here. One of the only artists I refuse to listen to since I find them so morally repugnant.
lol to this album. Terrible Starting with the America song, land of hamburgers or whatever. Honestly knew nothing about him before, but this was insufferable and pretentious as all hell. And the lyrics are just hilariously unsubtle. I was about three tracks in and couldn’t stand this man.
Insufferable musings of a pretentious, insecure man
The songs that sound like The Smiths are solid. Everything else is boring, much like this douche is in real life
I just dont like Morrissey. You hear it once, you've heard it all. Stop putting him on this list.
Meh
Not my thing.
viva: hated. (⌐■_■)
Gross
You Are the Quarry should be thrown in a quarry and buried. This album is Morrissey on a soap box about a bunch of typical subjects like politics, American greed, corporate BS, fame, religion, social acceptance, blah blah blah. I really was annoyed. It has minimal lyrical rhyme and just sounds like stage rants. This record is a complete flop. Even the back-up music was pretty lame. 0.93 stars you fat pig...take a hamburger and shove it.
Rubbish
blurgh. Rating this with 1 star is 1 star too many.
All the subtlety of a jackhammer
1, много ме издразни по някаква причина
What a bore.
Can't really find anything good to say about this one. At this point he's just obnoxious and self important and the songs all suck. At least the Smiths had some decent songs.
no
Refuse to give him any listens
And you are a quant but you don't hear me quomplaining
When I said the Smiths should get rid of Morrissey I didn’t mean he should make solo albums!!!! Lyricism of a 15 year old redditor
Fuck Morrissey
Hey Morris, here's one more thing for you to complain about...
Fuck Morrissey.
Still not a Morissey fan.
Boring and monotone.
Can't rate this low enough.
I was listening it and hating it, but it took a turn and then a song came on that I was finally enjoying. Turns out the album was over and it had started playing the smiths.
Ugh, Morrissey. Once upon a time I liked the Smiths, his lyrics seemed cool and edgy. Then I grew up. He's definitely someone who loved the smell of their own shit
What a pretentious piece of crap. He pissed me off just from the titles of the songs ... then it got even worse when I tried to listen.
Ffs, another one? I just can't stand his whining disguised as singing any longer. Seriously, every song is like a complaint letter.
Morrissey is an icon of British music, but where I’m from he’s a cult artist at best. I’m genuinely not sure what the British record-buying public heard in these mopey, hook-free self-flagellations to send four of them into the upper regions of the charts. He claims that the world is full of boring people only to make an album full of boring songs. Absolutely not my cup of tea.
Shocking, another Morrissey album I did not finish. I don’t get the love for this narcissistic dbag. He’s so goddamn boring to listen to.
good lord. im not rating these songs cause i cant bring myself to listen to most of these songs. its insane how no one has strangled morrissey to death yet. theres still time
Sorry I’m two weeks behind at this point and I am on record as a The Smiths Enjoyer but fuck this guy and this dumb album im out after the first two songs
If you can put aside your feelings about Morrissey as a person, I think this album can help you just hate him as a musician too. You couldn’t even parody this album because Morrissey is cartoonishly self loathing and whiney in a way that doesn’t feel humble, it just feels like the melodic pouting of a narcissist. It feels shockingly self-aware, but I can’t decide if he is or not. If he wasn’t already a rich, famous, middle-aged white man, I can’t imagine this album ever seeing the light of day. But alas, here it is ruining my otherwise nice Sunday. To adapt a phrase from my grandma (and Lucille Ball): “If that’s the kind of album you wanted, you sure got a good one.”
Shit
Hated it even more than other Morrissey stuff
I actually asked my friends if this was a parody album after listening to the first song, and they said "Nope, that's just Morrissey". I feel like that sums up my listening experience pretty well.
Even separating art and artist - they both suck.
Nah, pass. I've had enough Morrissey on this list thanks.
That sucked.
Kako je ovo loše. Htjela sam dati priliku, ali eto, ne ide. 1/5, 1/10
This is just a guy desperately trying to keep up with the new kids. That guy is also a giant dick. 2/10
YOU are the quarry, you piece of shit
Trash
Oh fuck off already
Ugh, Morrissey yet again. At least give me The Smiths! This was awful. Whiney. Indulgent. Slow. Boring. Also weirdly dated sounding. The vocals are dreadful and the music isn't even interesting. Yes, Morrissey. Tell us all about how miserable you are and how terrible the world is, all with your massive privilege. My heart bleeds for you, Morrissey. Life has been so unfair to you. /s What a wanker.
Pretentious and didactic. Just pure trash.
i missed the morrissey boat and i have a lot of trouble squaring his reputation (even though it's pretty bad in a lot of ways!) with how beloved his music is. this is mostly annoying, sometimes terrible, and dated throughout.
Fuck me, this is dire, how did he go from There Is a Light That Never Goes Out to 'lol Americans are fat'. First of the Gang to Die is decent but the rest is incredibly petty and unimaginative (and let's not forget that he's a far-right dickhead too)
Hate him and hated this
I couldn’t listen past the second bar of the first song but Christ how does this man have a career.
Whiny and stagey and on the nose.
Ugh I always thought Morrissey fans were dorks and now I know why.
It's weird going from Dante who I was complaining about having too much unnecessary (or accessible) symbolism to this guy who I'm not sure knows what subtlety is. Extremely pointed and direct lyrics that sound like reddit posts that somehow got put to music . I might've enjoyed some of the music and melodies if the lyrics and vocalist weren't so awful. Every other line was directly addressed to "you" lol.
Seems edgy just to be edgy. Lots of complaining cynical lyrics without much nuance. Really not a fan of this one. Musically it's ok and I can respect the artistic and comedic qualities of the overt lyrics and music, but together they just sound like an edgy, cringy teen. Immature.
Dude screw this guy. And all his county folk like him. Major “WELL, AT LEEEEEEEEEAST!!!!!!” vibes from this quack. I’m sure he’d like it if someone shoved a hamburger up his own. Every song but one was the same. Irish blood, English heart sounded like the rock band in wizard prom from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Would not listen again. ‘Merica. Hell yeah.
Pre-listening thoughts: GODDAMN IT 😭 oh brother look at this tracklist he is just WHINING Post/during listening thoughts: oh my god can he SHUT UPPPPP. Every single song he is whining about something or another whether it’s America or Brits or Jesus or just generally people in the world or lesbians (????) or his own personal life. FUCK YOU MORRISSEY👎👎👎👎👎👎 2/10 I have typed Morrissey in all caps from yelling at him so many times now my phone has started autocorrecting anything remotely close to MORRISSEY to his name in all caps. Need the world to know this. DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no no no no no Fav tracks: First of the Gang to Die Least fav tracks: I HATE YOU MORRISSEY
Would have been a better album as a set of instrumentals.
I've tried so hard to get into the Smiths...naturally Morrisery as well. I feel like I'd like playing some of these on my acoustic - they may jive with me more. Same with some iconic Smiths tracks. They just never really hit for me. I can't deny the songwriting and the following - it's pretty unmatched. But for now - solid 2. It's ok. I really do want to like 80's prog rock...but it just doesn't hit the way I want it to. I can confidently say I don't even know why people hate him so much - from a quick read he does seem like a selfish a-hole. So many reviews say how much they hate him, his head is so far up his ass, they can't wait for him to croak. Upon reading into it.....FUCK this guy. So that doesn't really help with the rating haha. You always try and separate the person from the art - but it's sometimes easier said than done. This isn't something i'd ever pursue buying a pressing of.
More forgettable pulp from a bigoted narcissist.
Eww
This project lulled me in to a false sense of security. It had been so long that I figured I was done with both The Smiths and Morrissey, but then BAM! Here we are. This was absolute trash which is not at all surprising.
No, your are. One star. Your want more? Childish, simplistic lyrics over music that is more suited to the end of a bad, b grade tv episode. Like knock off Kaiser Chiefs had a baby with a U2 cover band. "You know where you can shove your hamburger." WTF. If I paid money to see the Moz and he didn't show up, I would count myself lucky and question my life choices that brought me to that point in the first place. The world is full of crashing bores, indeed. I am not as opinionated as I once was, except for Morrissey. Fuck off. One star.
Sigh... Morrisey makes me sad. Only this time, I don't think it's intentional. Maybe it is... Despite the tough guy cover, it's mostly endless mope rock. Dull as dirt, repetitive, boring, sameness. You see what I did there. At least this is before Morrissey full on diva (altough to be fair he was always a bit of a diva), but it's still precious and self-absorbed. Oh, and the first song dishes on the U.S. which is one of his biggest markets. Not too smart if you want your old audience to still love you (though, to hear Morrissey tell it, no one loves him). I can only image this was a misguided effort to attract the burgeoning emo crowd of the early 2000s. As they say in baseball, swing and a miss.
The best I can say is that the music was so bland, I could focus entirely on the god awful lyrics.
Fuck Morrissey
First of the Gang to Die er en kæmpe banger dog.
Why are there so many brilliant lyrics unintelligibly sung, meanwhile this twat's diction is pure! He did write a song about the world being full of crashing bores. I think crashing is too high praise for this idiot. If I could give this shit its proper rating my average would tumble.
good singer but bloody depressing
very first song is shitting on America, what did he mean by this?
There's a track on You Are The Quarry called 'The World is Full of Crashing Bores'; irony is certainly not dead, therefore. This is really dull and, even when it's not, the lyrics are choc-full of empty platitudes from a prick pretending to care. I mean you can't listen to the first two tracks without laughing and cringing in equal measure. I don't hate it as much as Viva Hate or Your Arsenal, the last two we had from him, but I'm not sure that means it should avoid the same 1/5 score.
I will not listen to Morrissey.
garbage
Morrissey is the actual worst. Not gonna listen to this one. It’s hard to separate the art from the artist. Plus his voice is super annoying.
Google the word "pussy" and it will auto-play this album.
The answer to the question "what's worse than The Smiths?" Wish this guy would just shut the fuck up.
Not sure which is the bigger joke - the songs on this album or its inclusion on this list.
I think this is the album that makes me give up on this list This is truly horrible
It's impossible to evaluate a solo career without reference to their prior band, and when your prior band was the best of 80s your new stuff can only ever pale in comparison. Musically, this is boring adult indie contemporary, missing the jangle genius and thumping bass of the Smiths we're left with bloated orchestration and slow sub-Oasis strumming. So attention goes to the vocals (fine) and lyrics, which are a mix of self-pity (but without the heightened youthful witty melodrama that made this arch and fun I'm the 80s) and banal nationalism. One of the biggest loser trajectories in music history
could not sit through
This album was quite unenjoyable. Really didn't like anything about it, and it sounded like Morrissey was just trying to make me sad the whole time. I'll give it a swift pass next time it comes on.
Cringeworthy. Cannot take it seriously. Walmart Michael Buble. The lyrics of the songs were all spiteful/passive aggressive break up style songs. This guy probably gets broken up with a lot. The composition was all just soulless background music. To top it all off, his voice is annoying as well. 1 star.
Fuck you Morrissey. We've got Obama. If I was in Morrissey's gang, I would also want to be the first one to die. This album would be found on r/im14andthisisdeep.
Noper
papo reto? odeio o morrissey, tanto a pessoa quanto os trabalhos solo dele btw essa capa de álbum é uma das coisas mais ridículas que eu já vi e eu já vi muita coisa ridícula
Haven’t heard this yet but fuck Morrissey.
Fuck dis guy
I've just checked and there's four (yes FOUR) Morrissey solo albums on this list. I'm not entirely certain there's a justification for 3 The Smiths albums, but without Marr, Morrissey is just a droning arse.
Derivative, tone-deaf, generally ignorant, and despite that somehow impossibly pretentious at the same time. The political and social opinions on this album were bad at the time and Morrissey's opinions age worse than milk in the sun as it is. When he's not giving out political and social opinions that nobody asked for on this album, the rest is typical self-loathing and pessimistically looking down on others, somehow bookended by a sense of self-importance that Morrissey always conveys. The music around the lyrics is sometimes fine I guess. However, there's a bit more than "inspiration" in some of it and lifted melodies as well. I do not understand, for the life of me, why people build this guy up. He sucks and this album sucks.
FuUuUcKkK Morrissey
My first 1. Two songs I must highlight: First of the Gang to Die & Irish Blood, English Heart. I have listened 5 albums from him until I have listened this album. I can not choose which is worse...You are the quarry or Vauxhall and I. Strong competition.
Bleh
Holy... I thought I didn't like Morrissey before, but he just doubled down on every annoying aspect of his persona. It's like a parody of himself with absolutely no self-awareness. I just can't. I'm literally writing this review halfway through because I'm so annoyed.
🤢🤮
No I'm not
Things I hate about this album: - The album cover. Did they just give him random props? Why a tommy gun? - The first song, I was shocked reading along to the lyrics. Just a weird attempt at what was probably supposed to be an anti-Iraq war song. - Also it's kinda ironic Morrissey calling out the US not having a black president at the time, and now he's a total racist - All the song titles... peak of Morrissey's pretentiousness - Now that I remember the album title, I hate that too - If I stop listening to the lyrics, the actual music is fine, but nothing groundbreaking. ("I Like You" is decent) - That I'm only halfway through this album... It got a little better in the second half, but I did start paying less attention.
Meh
Morrissey at his worst.
I've tried. I've really tried. But this is shite. Whinging and pedestrian - I've already tied the bedsheets together and I'm just about to kick the stool away from under me.
Morrissey reads the Opinion section of the paper to music.
I was looking forward to today's album, hoping it would be a turnaround in my already annoying day. then I got this album. one thing I can say for sure: no one can claim the universe doesn't have a sense of humor. as for the album itself: I still am not fully convinced (or rather don't want to believe) it's not satire. it sounds as if someone wanted to create a Morrissey parody album and did an exceptional job at it. the "social commentary" is so obvious and cringe, and the music is derivative. this is an album equivalent of that one dude at a party that goes on a long-ass rant about politics acting like his unparalleled insights and superior intellect are a gift to the world but it's clear to everyone else that he has no idea what he's talking about. what a joke
Again, F this man.
Started off okay actually... Melodies are okay, but the lyrics are wierd... Don't know if I dislike Morrissey or U2 more... But they get the same grade 1/5
I love Morrissey and The Smiths. They were and remain staples of my adolescence. The music that connected me to my emo self before emo was the label. But, I do not like this album. Very few songs have the hook of his other work.
3.56 rym la cosa che rende tollerabile gli Smiths è Johnny Marr e so che non c'è in questo disco stai zitto diomadonna 1/5
I hated this and now I hate Morrissey. Regretting the college year+ I spent liking the smiths
I try to seperate the art from the artist, so I went into this one with an open mind But jesus christ it was bad The music itself wasnt too bad on some songs, so I did think of giving it another star just for that. But no, his whiny drivel was too much. The lyrics were so bad I can't look past it "Hey you big fat pig" on the opening track was enough to cement my hatred in this album. Cringiest lyrics ever. And you know he thought he was so clever and edgy writing that 1 ⭐️
I'm not a fan of musicals generally. This feels like a musical. I'm not a fan of this.
Você é tão pretencioso.
At last a "review" that's pretty easy to write. As Morrissey became increasingly obnoxious as a person, his music (or rather, the one *other composers* wrote for him) ironically became more and more pedestrian, devoid of any real risk as it pandered to old fans of the late eighties / early nineties "rock" idiom, who never managed to move on from that point. Here is the mind-boggling paradox: if at least the Moz had chosen to sing on truly abrasive "stuff" by 2004--in keeping with his grating persona--he would have succeeded in making a cohesive point to both his fans and detractors. Alas, the production in this record is desperately bland and safe, and so are most of the chords and harmonies found in it. At this point, it doesn't really matter what the lyrics are about. Here, you basically get the oh-so-precious, yet oh-so-cynical stance he's used since the Smiths era, with many hamfisted lines sung in an overkill mode to boot. In his first solo outputs, you at least had a few pleasant surprises. Nothing is either surprising or pleasant in this album. It's just an utter borefest of unprecedented proportions, both lyrically and musically. Good that we have the hilarious reviews about this "bad" album in this section, though--including some written by reviewers a tad bit more benevolent to this record than I am. I'd dare say there's more artistry, genuine *wit*, and imagination in a single one of those funny reviews than in all of the songs in *You Are The Quarry* combined. But who am I to say? After all, I'm not the "quarry" Stephen is looking after. Fortunately so, I might even venture to add... 1/5 for the purposes of this list of so-called "essential albums". 6/10 for more general purposes (5 for overall competency + 1 for the artistic flair--or lack thereof). Number of albums left to review: 191 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 350 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 203 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 257 (including this one)
Too much Morrissey what's going on. There has to be more out there than all of his albums, right?!
Some maybe good, some maybe bad. Not writing home about it. fav= first of the gang die
I can’t stand this man
Fuck Morrissey.
Cannot stand this whinging prick.
Fuck Morrissey
How is a 45 year old man not embarrassed about these “I’m 14 and this is deep” lyrics? Or the fact that they’re sung over the most generic music ever written. It’s an absolute joke that this clown is as popular and enduring as he has been.
While Morrissey is a complete lunatic and wildly unlikable, I do try to separate the art from the artist. However, the ‘art’ here is also boring, full of asinine and hypocritical political bollocks and just not very good.
Not really for me.
He looks a bit like Joaquin Phoenix in the cover art. Maybe there’ll be a film about him called Insufferable Twat
When your racist uncle finds voice notes
shit
Morrissey is the worst singer in human history. Fitting that I have to listen to this stupid piece of shit's album on the stupidest piece of shit streaming platform: YouTube Music
No thank you. The actions of the person have overshadowed the actions of the artist. Also, the music on this album is meh.
My mom always called him miserable Morrissey and it is clear why. Every song is just him hating. The first song is literally about how Americans are fat and hate anyone who is not a white man. Like wow so insightful!
Meh. Just not my cup of tea
This album has this weird paranormal psychological effect of entering one ear and leaving the other instantly. Would love to rate this better, but my psyche is not strong enough to focus on the song. I also realised halfway through that it was the frontman of The Smiths and it made me sad what he became. Would rate 2/5 I guess? But this dude is a pretty big fascist and I cant wait for the guillotine to be back in fashion.
Geen zin in nog een album van deze stem.
Would not load.
They had to put me on watch and take my shoelaces after listening to this album.
This is some psuedo-intellectual bullshit. Shut up already.
The music was incredibly boring, and his criticisms of everyone else show his lack of self awareness in full view. This was not an album worthy of this list. 1/5
Shite. Shite singer, shite songs, shite production, shite lyrics. The guy sings like he has been kicked in the plums, but I don't think we are that lucky. Would give it zero, or even less than that if I could. Absolutely pish. He can't sing, and is a Nazi, and isn't a good lyricist, and is a Nazi, and writes terrible music, and is a Nazi, and really puts the "pretentious" in "pretentious wanker", and also, and I can't stress this enough, is a Nazi. 0 🌟
Nooope.
This album sucks. How it charted anywhere near the list is confusing - Its just awful. 1/5
there is no one on earth I'm afraid of
I do not like Morrissey
im not listening to Morrissey lmao.
nope.
Separating the art from the artist is normally something I'm pretty good at, particularly with things like Harry Potter. But not with this album. When this scumbag brings his politics and his opinions into his music, it immediately makes it less enjoyable for me. And it's not even like the album is saved by having good music. On top of his self righteous, narcissistic, borderline bigoted lyrics, the actual music is very generic, so I can't even really enjoy the album on that level.
No thank you. Morrissey has tainted his music with a far right outlook.
Funnier than a Sandler comedy album
Ugh, what did I just listen to? Spotify summed it up better than I can - theatrical, crooning, romantic angst, social alienation, and cunning wit. There's a lot to unpack in this album, but I won't be go back for it. It's a British kind of weird.
Morrissey's singing voice makes me need to simultaneously vomit, and shit blood.
This "album" is full of crashing bores. The music and lyrics have aged badly. Save yourself the 48 minutes - skip it Overall: 1/10
This place is reeking with Morrissey. Sorry, I can’t stand him.
What a mopey sack. Get a life, Morrisons.
Steven Patrick “I know writers who use subtext and they’re all cowards” Morrissey continues to be one of the most boring dudes in English Music to me. If you don’t have anything interesting or even remotely subtle to say you’d better at least have a good voice or good music behind it.
I don't know.. initial impressions.. it's kinda like U2? I never listened to much Morrissey or the Smiths.. There are some interesting pieces and soundscapes of music, particularly the guitar, but they don't really linger on it.. also he sorta sucks politically now right? It's all kinda bland in 2023. Review of Review: People don't really like Morrissey.. Best Track: The First of The Gang To Die? idk.. all pretty forgettable..
Third Morrissey album in less than two weeks. Nobody should have to suffer this. Is he doing this? Are we all just getting Morrissey all the time?
Oh god, the poetry on here is abysmal
I was just in Geneva and verified that making us listen to this would be against the Geneva convention. The Smiths had worn out their welcome by the time of their third album on the 1001. Adding four Morrissey solo albums to the 1001 is cruel and unusual punishment.
I really tried. I did. With this album and others he's on that have shown up in this project, I tried. And I tried in my college years, too, in the late 80s when he was everywhere. Sorry, folks. I just don't like his music.
I'm sure I have commented on my opinion of politics and religion before, in that there are things they just do not go with. They include sport and music (unless its for comedic effect). Add to that the fact that music should be uplifting, and then the depressing content of his songs and you may understand why I found I could only get through half this album. Which is a real shame. Because the music it's self was more upbeat than the smiths (not hard I know). And damn the man can actually sing. I listen to a lot of stuff that many people would not even consider music, but I can find worth in it. I suppose it must take a lot of talent to take a reasonable tune played well, add in a very good voice (when it wants to be) put them together and produce something that I just can't bear to listen to. It's not rubbish but it's unlistenable. I can't give it less than 1 but I want to.
Too preachy. Also, not good.
Worst first lyric of an album ever All morrissey does is complain
This album sucked
The Germans seem to have a word for everything, so I wonder if they have a word for "someone you find so obnoxious that you're tempted to disagree with them even when they're saying something you completely agree with." If so, that's the word I'd use to describe Morrissey. He's kind of the worst.
Man this is a perfect album to show people if they ever ask why do people hate morrisey. This is some pretentious echo chamber bs poised as music. What a wanker. Only thing this has going for it is the upbeat instrumentals that are decent. 1.8/10
Fuck you, Morrissey. And the high horse you rode in on.
Same old Morrissey, dull and whinny. The Smiths were amazing, but now, he just sounds like the same thing over and over and over.
Fuck Morrissey
I really dont like You Are The Quarry
Ugh. Somebody get this guy some Zoloft or something… sad sack singer writing sad sack songs. And while I appreciate the spirit behind “America is Not the World” (a song sadly MORE relevant now than in 2004), it doesn’t mean I like listening to it. Pretentious and overwrought. Pass.
Very cheesy, not sure why this is on the list. Didn’t finish the album.
When an musician continues to make music that is generally irrelevant (or redundant), there are only 2 reasons -- they are a narcissist and desire to prove they are special, or they are a true artist and their very life demands they make music. Which is Morrissey? On this record, I choose the former. The last album that had any relevance for me was "Southpaw Grammar," but that was "the end of the family line."
Ooof. This almost seems like a satirical take on Morrissey. 8th graders might find this deep.
Some off the melodies are quite good but the lyrics and the singing just makes it sad music for sad people
First song was hilarious. Rest of the album sounded about the same, just with different lyrics for each song. Maybe shoulda paid more attention to the lyrics because they're clearly the focus of the music. Beyond the lyrics, there's not much here musically.
I like Morrissey but not this album.
