Reviews (page 7 of 7)

I liked it better than Felt Mountain, but I didn't like it. The first song is terrible. A couple okay ones in the middle, but I was glad when it was over.

Was ok heard better by them, little bit like background music no reason to be on this list!!

++: Little Bird, Monster Love +: Clowns, Eat Yourself, Some People, A&E +-: Happiness, Road to Somewhere, Cologne Cerrone Houdini, Caravan Girl 5,8/10

Музыка для транса (или трансов)

Sounds a bit like late 90s Tori Amos, but less interesting. Yawn.

There's nothing really wrong with that album but there's nothing really distinctive to it either. This kinda sound like any other folk pop album out there.

I listened to it yesterday. I don't remember anything. It wasn't bad, I think.

More like Goldcrap am I right?

Plätschert so dahin. **

A and E is like the only good song.

pleasant enough but got lost in the background could i write poetry to this? n

A few catchy”ish” tunes but I’d never listen to it again.

This is an album that you’d hear in a coffee shop providing soothing noise to make you enjoy your coffee before venturing into the world that is much the opposite of this album. It was pretty short, and I didn’t notice I went through it twice as most of the songs are similar. This wasn’t really anything spectacular or remarkable but it has its place. Also what’s with the pirate hat. Makes no sense with the music. 5.2/10

Pleasent enough but also pretty soporific.

Tut nicht weh, lässt sich gut anhören, hinterlässt aber auch keinen großen Eindruck.

Instrumentally it is very pretty. Vocally it's God awful. It was boring. I also think it's for people who have a lot bigger feelings than I do about lots of things. Celebration rock this ain't.

Snoozer

2008 alternative - quiet female voice, kind of tinkling little melodies.

Happiness Eat Yourself A & E

It’s hard for me to believe there are two albums by this artist on this list considering how the artists rate or one album.

Music for edgy emo-adjacent theater kids who smoke weed and use tumblr to pretend they are interesting to

Aluksi kuulosti kiinnostavalta, mutta pidemmän päälle kostautui aika tyhjänpäiväiseksi ja heikosti ikääntyneeksi. 2/5

aika geneeristä nollari-indietä. 2/5

This style was not for me but I’ve heard worse.

I liked the first track, after that it lost me. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, just kind of boring and same-y throughout. Fortunately it was rather short so it was too bad to listen through.

This album is really pretty and it has a lot of different textures, but ultimately it sounds like something hippie chicks listen to when they brush their armpit hair.

Cotton candy music - no substance just fluff

Very chill. Too chill. Sounded pretty, buy I want more than that.

Dreadfully boring almost the entire time. We’re getting RNG’d here but this is a lot of “why on earth would you pick this album from this artist” entries recently

I'm really starting to wonder if I'm just having a cranky week and being unfair to these albums lately. However: 1. I don't know why you would pick this album out of all of Goldfrapp's work 2. I don't know why you would pick Goldfrapp to represent airy pop singer-songwriter/electro-folk/whatever and 3. I don't know why you'd pick this to represent music in 2008. So I'm really not sure why it's here. And I didn't particularly enjoy listening to it.

Was not a fan of this At times it sounded like someone was singing but you reversed the audio

It's not bad, but it doesn't do anything that makes me want to keep listening. I wouldn't turn off any individual song, but I wouldn't want to listen to the whole thing again. I'm not sure why it's on this list.

Meh. Very chill. Nothing spectacular.

I thought this album was very pleasing to listen to. Good voice and a timelessness to the style of music. However, the songwriting was boring in spots and it didn't hold my attention throughout.

Just kinda forgettable.

The judgement of music is so subjective. I assume that any album on this list will have a slew of people who praise it's perfection. In the spirit of subjectivity, I am comfortable saying that this album is not bad. I don't think I'll ever come back, though.

Suave até fica sonolento.

Piepsie

Every track sounded similar, except for Caravan Girl, the only upbeat track on the entire album. Everything was very slow, melodic, airy, dreamy. Her voice is very good. Overall I found the entire album boring, there is nothing particularly groundbreaking and I found myself questioning why this was on the list.

A big departure from the glamourous Supernature and synth pop banger Black Cherry (both albums had hits, why aren't either of those on the list?!). I hear a bit of Dusty Springfield in "Clowns" and Katy Steele/Little Birdy throughout (specifically "Some People"). It just feels... beige. Beach House (self-titled, Devotion), Blonde Redhead (23), Au Revoir Simone (The Bird of Music), M83 (Before The Dawn Heals Us) and The Sleepy Jackson (Personality - One Was A Spider, One Was A Bird) released dreampop-esque albums in the same year or earlier and did it far better than Seventh Tree. Overall: 3/10

Meh. Dreamy listless and forgettable. 2/5

In another world I can appreciate this but I am not listening past the 2nd track. Wtf with this list. I'm fucking TRYING to get through this and it keeps putting shit like this on it. Fuck out of here that this is one of the 1,000 BEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS

I like Trip Hop. At its best, this album sounds like okay Trip Hop. But it’s mostly random synth tones and pleasant vocals with no real song structure. Very forgettable.

I enjoyed the instrumental song the most!

Take the vocals out and I’d like it more.

Ethereal. Makes me want to to dip deeper into her work.

I listened to this album about half an hour ago and I've already forgotten most, if not all of my opinions of it. It's inoffensive, but that's really all I can say about it. I guess this dreamy electronica is maybe a genre that needed representation on this list, otherwise I've got no clue why.

This one goes out to the gatekeepers in the back! Released at a time when rumors of the death of the album format was starting to circulate, I have no problem understanding why conservative rock critics at the time were mostly positive towards Seventh Tree. It sounds expensive, and is partly recorded in Abbey Road. The use of the Mellotron is very sgt. peppery, yet the modern touches of electronics sets it apart from the classics. Surely an appeal to older rock gatekeepers, eager to see albums as big cultural moments, and lacking the vision to see that music was flourishing in new forms. To me, this sounds okay, but I doubt I will remember any of the songs. 2.4

More boring 2000s music

Tired and grumpy but really annoyed me. Possibly unfair

Non-notable. Don't think it was mixed well either.

The list yields a discovery. Decent album and not what I was expecting from Goldfrapp, but honestly it’s there, I guess, like everything else they made that wasn’t Strict Machine. Pleasant enough, but this list isn’t 1001 albums you didn’t listen to from 2008.

This is an example of why you should judge an artist off an album and not a song. I was surprised to see an album on this list from 2008. Maybe that's not a shocking thing but considering the vast amount of music from even before the 90s that should or probably is on this list... I was pretty intrigued. The first song... I was immediately bored. "Another artist emulating Joni Mitchell" is what I thought. The as the album went on, it got more synthy. Not just another typical folk album . The vocals are well layered and haunting at most times. Very dreamlike. Very minimal instruments aside from synth and keys. But the vocals are what shine through. As this record went on, I kind of wanted it to be over already. Not a lot of diversity in the songs. It's very pretty. But it's very much of the same. I went from bored, to intrigued, to thinking "wow this is a lot better than I thought it was going to be", to "when will this end?" My first thoughts were to give this a low rating but I had to listen to it a bit more. It's definitely not bad but it's outside my interests. I most likely won't ever listen to this again.

Totally uninteresting. Didn’t care for this one at all. I liked the feel they were going for at the beginning, but that’s about it for the first few tracks. It picked itself up about half way through, but then fell back down for most of the remainder. Really came back strong on the second last track, but then the last one was still just kind of uninteresting. I had high hopes for this album but I don’t ever feel like revisiting it. 4/10. Would be a 3/10 if not for one song being significantly better than the rest. Top 3: 1. Caravan Girl 2. Eat Yourself 3. Some People

This was decent but not something I would listen to again.

Just average...mayhaps a bit too slow. 2/5

Eh, not quite my style.. too mellow

Too quiet. Too mellow. Forgot it was even on half way through. From a period where it seemed to be everyone’s agenda to try to make atmospheric, anthemic, seminal albums. Rubbish

Sounds like an album intensely insipired by “The Beach” soundtrack. Completely decent but I probably won’t ever return to this.

I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure this is Lana Del Ray if she sang an octave higher and did spins in a long skirt in a Midwest prairie.

A good listen, feel like I cheated having the lyrics on spotify open but I feel like there's not a lot of substance in these lyrics, but again a really pleasing listen

Many find it great, I find it boring and average

Just kinda there

Not for me.

I don’t feel like I have the right mental frame to understand why this album was included. Maybe I should go back over the lyrics with a finer tooth comb, but I won’t, because I didn’t like it

Ei lähtenyt liskodiscon jälkeisenä aamuna.

Some albums on this list I was surprised I missed. This one I would’ve been perfectly fine with missing

meh - not my cup of tea but some interesting changes, melodies and vocal textures.Like the quality of her voice …

This poor little songbird may be happy in her cage, but she isn't living up to her full potential. The entire album played through and started again without me ever realizing there had been separate and distinct tracks.

Wha- what is she saying? I mean, the vocals are unique and kind of nice, but I can't understand the lyrics at all. Ethereal, dreamy, nice, but that's about all there is to be said, unfortunately.

Dull, slow plodding vocals that go nowhere. Nothing more than background music

Good, just not for me. Too slow. 4.6/10

Just not that into it.

Very "meh". It's an electronic album with layers of symphony, but no track really stands out and everything blends into each other. Extremely forgetful and of its time. Shocked this is on the list, and I would argue it's not even the best Goldfrapp album.

Weird and gross

It's fine, instantly forgettable though and nothing to actually engage me; strong 2

It’s nice but it’s missing a little pinch. It’s boring and definitely forgettable on a track to track basis.

Gave it a listen and found it pretty similar to some tracks I've heard from Air. It's not my cup of tea but I was able to get through the album without much fuss. Nothing really caught me in terms of wanting to listen again. Overall average for me and I probably won't come back to it.

I didn't hate it

Hate that I can't understand what she's saying most of the time - why even bother writing lyrics? I almost stopped after the first four songs. better songs: Eat Yourself; Some People; Caravan Girl.

I much prefer the higher octane Goldfrapp of yore over this incarnation. P.S. I also very much fail to see in what way, exactly, is this album to die for. Of all the albums released in 2008, what’s so special about this one? Come on, lift your game

I never knew that Goldfrapp were reputable enough to be considered for one of the “albums you must hear before you die”, but here we are. To my knowledge, I’ve only ever heard Ooh La La before today, which is not on this album. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: A&E I remain confused at the inclusion of this album if a list of supposed essential albums. There was nothing interesting happening for the most part, with only occasional songs that were at least half decent. Even my favourite song from the album A&E isn’t really a song I’d bother going back to listen to again. On the whole, I don’t really see the point of this album. It’s not unlistenable, but I still can’t really think of a reason to listen to it by choice.

The dreamy and flowy melodies from Goldfrapp show off her range as a vocalist. That being said, the songs are largely a blur and none really stan d out from the rest in a notable way. All of the orchestration and production has resulted in a great product, but not one that should be considered essential.

Yet another one where I have no option but to chalk up to "it's here because it's English". Bland, inoffensive "dream pop" that went nowhere. Every song exactly the same. 10bpm. yawwwwwn. 2/5.

Another attempt to sing like a bird that ended up sounding like a kettle. Apart from the nice buildup in "Little Bird" and the folksy summer sound of "Clowns" (what the heck are those vocals though?), this album is a bunch of terribly sung folk tunes over forgettable electronica beats. So, yeah, the mentioned 2 tracks basically saved this from a 1 star rating.

they all kinda sound the same

Nice, but very much passed by me in the background.

Kinda slow and boring pop, interesting style though.

sounds legit but it's not really for me

I almost didn't continue to listen after the first song, but did. And it got better, but. It ended up being an easy, non-offisive album. But in the scope of the name of this project, I feel no different afterward and will not remember anything about this album.

I like some Goldfrapp, this was less dance pop. Just ok.

I had no real knowledge of Goldfrapp prior to listening and yet I expected to like this album a lot more than I did.

Could use more synth and less indie folk.

This one felt like listening to the same song for 40 minutes. Pleasant but exceedingly mediocre. 2/5

Not really my thing…not even sure what genre this qualifies as. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Most of the album was a bit too experimental for me. I enjoyed a couple songs though and it's not a straight up bad album.

I was really surprised that I didn't enjoy this album at all. Maybe I was just in the wrong mood for it that day? *shrug*

Very dreamy. Sounds just nice. But for the expectations of this list it's a "damning with faint praise" type of situation. This might grow on me with repeated listens, but at first it didn't really grab me. At its best, like during "AE," it sounds remarkably like a Joni Mitchell song.

It's like a pastiche of Serge Gainsbourg, soft prog and Fairport Convention and I'd rather listen to any of those. I like Goldfrapp generally, but this was ten goodish songs, none of which I especially fancy listening to again. It feels like the sort of CD that people own to show off their classy taste, which probably has a thin sheen of months old cocaine on the jewel case. Good hat on the front cover though.

This isn’t bad but not very memorable

Felt like this album was going to pull me in, but couldn't quite get there. Can't say I hated, but it had a few songs I enjoyed. Not sure I would listen again, but again, but wasn't unpleasant. Liked Little Bird and how it picked up in 2nd half of sond and Happiness. Had really high hopes for Eat yourself, thought it would different, but it wasn't... 2

2 When it first started I was worried I was in store for a tender acoustic album but it wasn’t that. Textured and layered electronic alternative was not what I expected. It had some cool moments and was kind of a vibe but nothing really blew me away Favorites: Happiness, Road to Somewhere, Cologne Cerrone Houdini,

Goldfrapp is another group I had not listened to before now. Apparently, Goldfrapp was a duo who performed, produced, and mixed this album with a slew of guest artists. While i appreciated some of the production value, this album did little else for me.

Not my jam, little ethereal, all the songs sounded similar to me

I didn't know Goldfrapp, she sings well but it's not the kind of music I like.

Zweverige pop, niks voor mij

Queste prime 2 canzoni conciliano il sonno. Tutte molto basiche, non pessimo, ma non più di 2.

did hee haw for me but was quite nice

Ok pop. Less random than the other on the list.

I didn’t know I knew one of the tracks (Eat Yourself). Very sleepy. “Cologne Cerrone Houdini” almost had me feeling something—but honestly Beck did it way better. “Twee,” according to Spotify. Sleepy twee?

Som bem feito, mas não é meu estilo

Different…. Enjoyed a few songs

Another entry in the series of "the people who made this list fell asleep at the wheel for the picks from this century." Of course, it's a decent project. And I've heard of Goldfrapp, only for their big hit single "Ooh La La," which is nowhere near this album. Instead, it's a more laidback album, akin to some of the more indie/alt stuff that we get on the list. I took a look and there's another Goldfrapp album on the list, and it's also NOT the one that contains their biggest hits. Who's making these decisions? I'm sorry this album had to catch a stray today but damn, it's just really puzzling picks. Favorite tracks: Little Bird, Road to Somewhere, Cologne Cerrone, Houdini. Album art: Portrait shot of the lead singer I think. Nothing special. 2.5/5

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Cologne Cerrone Houdini, Caravan Girl, Monster Love Cutting Edge: A&E Overall Notes: Was bored but then the last 4 songs kick in, my favorites of which are two of the least streamed tracks on the album. Target audience missed, one man's pleasant is another man's unremarkable.

Nowt spesh

It had a cool sound but nothing really stood out for me.

Not for me…sound very monotone her voice is low and blends to the music …not annoying to have in the background …but what’s the point

Pesimo

Inoffensive but why is this on this list?

once again another electronic music band that just seems too minimalist for me. I could barely get through the first track

Not sure which I liked less, the album or the cover.

i like the production on a lot of these tracks but i just didn't like any of the writing, so the lightness of it just felt kind of empty vs ethereal and not enough to hold up the falsetto singing, not in itself a bad thing but wore on me sonically and quickly. fave track cologne cerrone houdini, more of a trip hop vibe than the rest of the album update read the wiki and would not have guessed this was going for british pagan folk except for the cover art... if youre gonna go wyrd, go wyrd...

Horrible

could not listen to this for the life of me. gets on my nerves very fast somehow

This is my second Goldfrapp album and that is two too many.

Alison Goldfrapp has a lovely voice, but god this is boring

Absolute dirge. Boring, went nowhere, had no life about it. Genuinely unsure what it is about this album that meant it made this list.

Я відчула полегшення, коли він закінчився. Музика, можливо, і розслаблююча, проте дуже одноманітна і нудна. 1,5

Previously unknown. Too...ethereal for me.

Not a vibe

Album 136. Seventh Tree (https://open.spotify.com/album/4YGQn2C71NbOEgSQM9fxRt?si=gaVFpBtUQZq1L3uc-gVWLA) — Goldfrapp (2008) The most boring album ever created. Everything is boring: album cover, album name, music. Sorry not sorry, not my kind of music at all, waste of time. 1/5 No liked songs

Stylish without any hooks that would attach to me. Not even a feeling that I would like to listen to this album again.

Painfully uninteresting

There was some pretty stuff on this album. I tired of it quickly even though I had it on in the background.

1. clouunz - 1 2. bird - 1 3. happinezz - 1 4. road - 1.5 5. eat - 1.5 6. people - 1 7. a n e - 1 8. cologne - 1.5 9. girl - 0 10. monzter - 1

Definitely not for me. I just finished it and I already forgot every track.

Interesting

snaaark

She has a voice and vocal style that is, to me at least, intensely irritating. Couple that with the naive guitar playing, fake bird sounds and badly arranged 'strings' and this becomes a disaster. 1/5.

Very forgettable.

Bland, aural wallpaper. Electronic shoegaze with sub cocteau twins vocals.

I've been a Goldfrapp head since Strict Machine was on that commercial for Nip/Tuck. And by that I mean I liked that one song. That song slaps. This album doesn't. This album is a snooze. If Gen Z has heard of it, I'd say it's a progenitor of modern snoozecore, but I don't think they have, so it's probably just boring.

O this lady has a pretty voice. Good lord this is getting annoying. This album makes me want to go to sleep and not in a good way.

Dreamy Folktronica which was promising in the first 15 seconds then drifting off in the repetitve dullness of the rest oft the album.

Nothing especially interesting.

Maybe the most boring album yet. Nothing unique. No energy. Couldn’t understand the singer half the time. She sang like she didn’t really want to be on this album and I think I know why. Not good.

Whispering throughout

Was sure they had a hit with something quite rocky, so this was not what I expected. It's just standard, well nothingness really. Only worth a 1 from me.

Afgezet.

I don't know if the second half of any of these songs are good because I didn't make it through any of them. This sounds like music produced in the 60's/70's about what music would sound like in the future. Found it thoroughly unenjoyable.

Awful lol

There is no soul to this music. Very forgettable. Just play it in the background and never bring it up.

Just don't bother

Awful - I think there was one complete song and the rest felt like either fragments of songs or demos that weren’t fleshed out yet.

Y'all can fuck right off with this. No thanks.

Awful. Terrible. No good. Even the first song being about boobs couldn't salvage it.

if this list makes me listen to goldfrapp again I’m out

бахти тъпото. е да имаш крайни мнения. иначе не ми много хареса албумът

not fun

Of all the sleeping music I've heard, this album is at the bottom. I seriously do not understand or care for it.

Not her best work. And Goldfrapp sucks, so…

Was hoping for some electronic music instead i got some very middle of the road, little bit dull, background music.

It ain’t for me

Warbling by numbers.

Not my style

I am finding the further i get into this list (no. 805 for me) my tolerance for mediocrity has diminished significantly. read into that what you will about this album.

Why do all the female rock/ alternative singers in the 2000’s have no uniqueness. Boring.

Easing listening.

Nope. Irritating breathy synth depression music.

Definitivamente não precisava ouvir

Might be a good album/music for the right ears, mine are not those

slow folk. Can hardly understand the words. All whispery. 1

Recht weich gespült. Nicht so mein Ding.

I only needed :20 to know that this definitely aint it

Feels like something I would hear at a Renn Faire

i feel like there’s a lot of better electronic music that could have been included here, and i don’t even like electronic music that much.

Tråkig

Vaikea keksiä mitään sanottavaa. On helppoa kuulostaa kivalta.

I didn't /dislike/ this, but I found it to be overall rather uninteresting/uninspiring. Caravan Girl was by far and away the best track, and I was hopeful it signalled a turn for the better as the record concluded.... but alas it was the single bright spot.

should not be on this list

Super boring

While the songs are fine, this album really doesn’t rise to the level of “greatest” in any category

This was an effortful listen. I didn't particularly enjoy any of it - the vocals or the dreamy electronic music. "Caravan Girl" was better but the whole thing fell flat for me.

A bit too whimsical for me. Seemed like a slight drug induced trance throughout the album.
