Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Hooked from the first tune. I’m surprised I’ve never heard of this artist. Sufjan meets Enya meets Pink Floyd, hints of The Beach Boys and the Beatles, with a little bit of indie edge sprinkled in. Pleasing reverby vocals, synths from every era, cool key changes.

Nicht schlecht, aber irgendwie langweilig.

The album sounds good, but doesn't offer anything to write home about in the songwrighting department, making this a nicely quiet, but unremarkable listen. Still 3/5

Nice sound. Good music to work to for sure.

3 I really liked the sound of a lot of songs on this album, but I also don't feel like they imparted much of a lasting impression on me. It almost felt like an ambient album, but a good ambient album at that... like a lot of these songs would go hard if used effectively in a movie or show. The songs that utilized strings (like Cologne Cerrone Houdini) were definitely the standouts for me over the more electronic ones. Very much feels like a situational listen. Favorite songs: Little Bird, Cologne Cerrone Houdini, Caravan Girl

I liked this, but every song started to sound the same after awhile. The only real standout track for me was “Happiness.” I was optimistic about this album at first, but every song felt like it hit the same mood, so I doubt I would listen again. Also not a fan of her breathy singing.

Dream pop. Ni fu ni fa.

Fairly generic - A&E is easily the best song on the album

I relistened and on the second go I actually found it was nice having it on in the background while doing stuff.

takes a few more listens to get into it, its alright but still not standing out that much. has a bit of an artsy vibe to it

The music is chilled out but but still moves and compliments her angelic voice

Dream pop. Ni fu ni fa.

Happiness

I love Goldfrapp. 3.3⭐

sounded nice but listened in the background

Började tråkigt, men blev bättre. Gillar stegringen i energi genom albumet.

Likte denne. Men ikkje heilt oppe i fire stjerner.

Heilt ok

This album was folky, ambient, and dreamy, but not so much so that I was bored or lulled into sleep. Elements of indie-pop and electronica keep it from being too lo-fi and ultimately help to break up most of the monotony that can come with albums of this type. Based on what I already know about Goldfrapp, I like how they were able to blend some of their typical, more dance-oriented elecrontic style with this more ambient genre. Ultimately, I think they did a great job doing it. I don't usually review the album art unless something specifically catches me. Well, let me just say that before hearing this album, based on the album art, I thought I was going to be in for some weird swashbuckling, sea-chanty indie music. I was thankfully wrong about that. Road to Somewhere, A&E, and Cologne Cerrone Houdini were all standout tracks for me!

A mixture of songs I find just okay, and, as the album goes on, songs that I actively dislike. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and call it a 3.

Definitely liked her earlier stuff more, this just feels a bit less interesting.

I have enjoyed the other Goldfrapp projects that the Album Generator has given me. Not this one as much. It's got the chill vibes and pleasant sounds I enjoyed in the past but unfortunately tips into boring pretty early on. Personally I would not have included this album on this list. Nice hat, though.

This is the fourth album from the English electronic duo Goldfrapp. It marks a departure from their previous albums' electronic dance sound to something more ambient and folky - affectionally named Folktronica. This change led to mostly positive reviews by critics and fans. The music is brave, beautiful, and a nice change of pace. Although it is slower than the usual electronica, so it's best played during "chill-out" periods. I liked the sound of this album, but it's so slow and subtle that it melts into the background unless you're focused on it.

A little too soft and diffused for my tastes.

I do like it, but it's all a bit samey.

Moderne singer/songwriter, looove, roligt, solid vokal

Buen álbum

A post-Lilith fairy? Whimsical and deserving a more careful listen.

she had a very beautiful voice but it got a little boring and this style of music isn’t for me because it’s super mellow, but it was pretty.

It's interesting to get repeat artists on here, but experience something completely different between albums. The first goldfrapp album I got was very instrumental, and went into some interesting places. This album seems to be a bit more generic, lady singing over some electronic music. It was ok, very average. They should have kept doing the more creative work like the previous album.

white girl pop folk

I couldn't understand a fucking thing said inthe opening track. Had to use the lyrics on spotify. After that one though it's like the rest kicked in for me. I thought it was okay, it was kicking folk/lounge/bedroom rock vibes. And I didn't mind, but I think I have other music I prefer to it.

Classic

This was a good indie/relax music

got better as it went on i guess. sounds very 2008. i wonder if there's another goldfrapp album on this list or maybe i'll have to try out another by them bc this doesnt seem like their best work.

I like Goldfrapp - but I think they’ve done better

Pretty calming stuff. Words are a little unclear at some parts. The end of Little Bird is really good. I like caravan.

Mellow, pleasant. A lot less electronic-heavy than the last album I got ("Felt Mountain"), though the influences are still there. A little sleepy, though I personally enjoyed the album's ending. Favorite tracks: "Caravan Girl", "Monster Love"

Was not expecting Goldfrapp to be on this list! Never listened to this album before and in a wild turn of events, it was very calming. I thought she had more upbeat things but this felt like a relaxing album. Reminded me of someone just meandering around a field of flowers not knowing where they are going next.

Doesn't offend and like some of the lo fi videos. Ultimately it fades into the background. For me it is not a classic to return to. The playlist continued into Supernature which I enjoyed more. Cover art: 2/5

Definitely a headphones album. I think I expected something higher energy. It's nice though.

Didn't think I'd be into it as much as I was.

Me gustan: Happiness, Road to somewhere, A&E, Cologne Cerrone Houdini y Caravan Girl.

A good album to chill and relax, a little repetitive but it's ok. I am going to listen this album again, but in a rainy day with a couple of coffee

It was okay. I liked the vibe.

never heard it in full, good mellow record

First song is a bit of Carly Simon-esque, and doesn't really set a good tone for this album. I like to vibe and tone. And even though she tries to look like Napoleon on the cover, she manages to carry this album. Definitely a repeat listen.

Guess I'm not really a fan of this kind of music. This was ok but basically a worse Cocteau Twins or maybe Portishead. Don't think I'd ever choose this over one of them.

Surprenant, jaime le vibe. 3.5

Dreamy whispering, not their best, borderline Muzak

Really liked this. Great voice and enjoyed the slightly slow ambient pace.

The so-far Goldfrapp albums are distinct, but about as nice. This one is a stylistic departure from the dance-oriented sound I prefer, but maintains strong - especially vocal - elements. Seventh Tree sounds like a cul-de-sac record, an entry in a genre which could have grown but faded away. There are brighter examples of that light, some of which I discovered through the list. But this duo's sound will always find its way home.

Sweet album. My first from the artist and I would say I'd like to give some of their other albums a listen. Gentle and strong sounds here. 3.5/5

Pretty nice atmospheric jams. The whole album blends together into an easily digestible but also easily forgettable package.

Gentle and soothing

It’s ok but this genre isn’t my favorite. The Melodie’s were ok but not that great. I also felt the lyrics were difficult to follow. I’m bout sue what this album was on the list, sadly.

"Everything goes around, bringing us back again;" sings Alison Goldfrapp, with appropriate naivety for such a bland closing lyric- "here is where we start and where we end." It figures: on their fourth album, the duo step back towards their downtempo roots of lush electronica, moving away from striking nu-glam and sitting contentedly mid-stream. "Seventh Tree" is a strange inclusion on this list: perhaps it was added to an early edition just after release (when Goldfrapp had reputations as critics' darlings) and swiftly replaced by greater works as the editions rolled on. Regardless, this is a solid album that satisfies without stretching. Its tone is pastoral, optimistic, nostalgic. "Clowns" opens with washes of reverb and acoustic guitar arpeggios, a distant whispered vocal recalling Cocteau Twins and some gentle strings to carry us through the last minute. Atmospherically, it's a perfect fit, sitting alongside other album tracks like "Some People" and "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" as Goldfrapp at their mystifying, seductive peak. What caught me off-guard was the album's more upbeat side. "Caravan Girl" and "Happiness" are straight up bangers with clear choruses, prominent percussion and driving rhythms, while "A&E" is very strong single material. There's a good range to "Seventh Tree" which keeps it fresh, although if we're being honest, none of it really has the feeling of innovation or excitement. Often, the music's strength is let down a bit by generic lyrics- even titles like "Road to Somewhere" and "Monster Love" feel lacking, vague and uninspired. Most of it comes off as just "nice" by the end, which I'd still take over "dull". There are certainly some gems in here and I'm glad I got to hear it.

Decent background music. Not much to distinguish the individual songs here, but it was an easy enough listen.

Did not like this album and artist. Only give it two stars - would not listen again!

07/05 Meh. Nothing stood out

Tää oli vähän liian tasapaksua tavaraa. Ei jäänyt mitään mieleen.

Sounds like Taylor Swift. Also, boring.

Ehh, it was ok. Ethereal Folk Music. 2.5⭐️ rounding down because I don’t need to hear from these guys again.

It's okay. Nothing really grabbed me. Found it a little boring.

Nice sounding with some pleasant tones, but overall forgettable. All the songs kinda started to wash together. Not really something I’d like to return to

Superr sweet music and voice but not for me . I love the song happiness

Not for me

Yawn. A band with not much to express worth listening to.

Some nice production and she has a good voice, but underneath it feels fairly style over substance - with fairly one-dimensional songwriting and quite derivative changes.

A pleasant enough place to pass through even if you’re checking your watch after 20 minutes but there’s no reason to come back

Another mid album that makes you wonder why is it on the list at all

First impression: Instrumentals? Vocals? Great. Lyrics? Questionable, so far. This kind of feels like it should have been two different albums. I really liked some songs, hated others. I’m conflicted. Fav song: Little Bird, Cologne Cerrone Houdini

Ethereal electronic drippy folk with the ever-horrid "breathless whisper" singing style. This album was so sleepy that it about put me to sleep driving down the highway. There's just nothing here to latch onto. There was one mildly interesting song ('A&E'), but most of the rest were either bad or extremely boring. I'm mildly judging someone if they listen to music like this earnestly. 2/5

Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree *Seventh Tree* is certainly a pretty-sounding record with its gentle synthesizer chords and leads, but Alison Goldfrapp's vocal melodies aren't particularly memorable and often get lost among the wash of keyboards. The arrangement on the track "Happiness" does manage to clear a path for her voice and elevates the song above the softer and less-focused tracks on this album.

I didn’t hate it but I definitely didn’t like it. It was a bit too soft for me and the music/lyrics didn’t pull me in enough to enjoy the softer tones.

That was not exciting.

Correcto

Not a fan. 2 stars

Nope. Don’t get it.

idk what to call this genre. its some sort of ambient electronic? i do like it. the vocals are kind of hard to parse but the progressions are really pretty. did they sample bird sounds on the first track? loving these synths but i cant help but wish there were no vocals tbh. i would prefer it as an instrumental. track 3 vocals are ok i guess, kinda lenka-esque. analog synths i love you forever!!!! oh the vocals are bringing me out of it again. man its genuinely rough because i KNOW its just a stylistic choice, and if it was any other timbre this album would be one of my favourites. unfortunately i think this is the uk's fault somehow. i become more ok with the vocals when there are drums present. i guess its just that i feel the vocals lag behind the rest of the instruments, but when theres a stronger rhythm track i dont mind it really feeling that one sentiment of "a good thing will make you happy a bad thing will make you annoyed but a thing that is 70% good will haunt you for the rest of your life" highlights: a & e

Pleasant. Way too pleasant. Maybe if it was 4.00 am and I was coming down in the nineties it would be nice. But I’m through about half and need to turn it off and switch to something that will shock my ears back to life.

This one does not feel lazy. It feels deliberate. Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory make the songs airy, soft-edged, and intimate, but there is still structure underneath the haze. The mood is sensual in a less obvious way than their clubbier records. It is not trying to dominate the room. It is trying to reshape the light in it.

Pretty whimsical. Not exactly my vibe but not terrible, but also not great. Extremely forgettable the instant you finish listening

Two Goldfrapp albums and neither of them have Lovely Head on. Didn't hate it but I won't play it again on purpose.

Eh. Inoffensive but ultimately not memorable

i thought the album cover had something 70’s and beautiful about it but the songs were just…… a lot of nothing

I loved Felt Mountain but this one didn't grab me as much

The voice is good, a little boring after a while. Most stuff fades into the background. Very forgettable.

I thought that I would jive with this way more than I ended up doing. It was just okay, at best Best Song: A&E Rating: 4.5/10 Stars: 2

Dream indie pop slop that is boring me out of my mind every time it pops up on the list, and there is a lot of albums like this on the fucking list.

I thought I was gonna hate this after a few minutes but I actually just ended up disliking it

This wasn't what I expected, at all. After track one I wrote down "Clowns is a pretty song: the floating melody and light haunting vocals combine into a sweet but pretty insubstantial track" but in my head this album was going to be more upbeat and dancey than that, so I settled down for that to kick in. I don't know why I had completely miscategorised Goldfrapp in my brain, but it was ALL sort of pretty but also sort of samey and sort of nothingy. It passed by pleasantly enough, but without leaving much impression on me at all. I knew and didn't dislike Happiness. Caravan Girl was at least a bit more up tempo for a tiny bit of variety. My self-imposed rule of 'just being a bit dull can't get you a 1" means this is getting: 2/5

little boring actually

I really don’t see how, in 2008, this was anything but a middle of the road album.

Decent, artsy, folky sounding. meh.

The Wiki says the band was praised for abandoning the "dance atmosphere" of their previous albums. Well, I wish they hadn't! This and the other vibey Goldfrapp album I got bored me to tears and I'm annoyed two such same-y albums are on this list.

2.8 tal vez volviendolo a escuchar suba, o baje

Look, some of it's OK background noice, but allI can really say about this one is that when I went to check the lyrics for one song on Genius it just said "[Non-lyrical chorus.]" This is just some lady making sounds.

I still don't get it. Their 2000 debut was forgettable and so is this.

I wish this was a different, better Goldfrapp album

Favorite Track: Little Bird

The white-girliest music I've heard in a long time omg

A bit disappointed by this album. I expected more experimentation and folk elements blended with the pop-electronica sound after the first track, but the album moves past that entirely to mellow pop. Could have been better but felt derivative by the end

Decent album but not really for me tbh. Bit too quiet and dull not a lot to it

5/10, the first song was great, the rest, meh

Meh at best

Somewhere betwee 2 and 3. Cool moments, faded pretty hard. Interested to learn more about Goldfrapp and whatever world this is.

Hard to get through - snoozy

Didn't do much for me.

I was listening to Goldfrapp a few weeks ago, but am not sure I’ve ever listened to this album. If I have it didn't leave an impression on me as I can’t remember it. I was a big fan of their earlier albums though so happy to give this one a spin. I now know why I can’t remember it. I probably have listened to this before, but it had the same impact on me. Sadly quite forgettable and not as good as earlier albums. Saddens me to give this such a low rating.

The turn my mood went from "oh a Goldfrapp album that isn't Black Cherry or Supernature" to "oh god no they made a folk album???". This one was a struggle, why would they do this? Really not to my taste but some of the songs were fine I guess.

Glad that's over. Very boring

Proof that just because you are a good singer, doesn't mean you are good as songwriting/composition. I can tell this was mid-2000's because you hear some elements of pop music of the late-2000's here. But like most early adopters, unfortunately falls flat.

Another one I just don’t get why it’s on this list or any list.

Seventh Tree definitely has its own sound. Not everyone can achieve that. It doesn’t quite reach across and pull me in, but it’s pleasant enough from afar. If someone was playing this in their car as they drove past I’d be momentarily curious, but not enough to wonder who the artist is.

I remember the faff and flutter around this artist. Feels like modern take on Beatles, not so much braking new ground, but emulating them in the new millenia. I find the whole record a bit lacking, it's whispering to me with promises, but then never delivers. And after playing it I've left with no recollection what I've just listened to.

This is not my kind of electronic. I like mine with a bit of bite and darkness. This is too sunny. This is not for me.

The album cover really baited me and set my expectations too high. I was expecting some pirate shit. What I got wasn't bad, but in the shadow of my expectations, it was nothing but disappointment.

Not something I'd ever be able to get into.

Background noise at best. Seriously unremarkable music. No great songs, no great vocals. Probably closer to 2 1/2, but I'm marking it down because some ass thought I had to hear this before I died. And they were wrong.

Boringly pleasant raspy whisper album that sounds like one long song that is boring.

Not bad but just not for me

I forgot there was music playing.

Sounds fine but it’s not memorable

Some interesting moments and an overall nice easy listen, but rather forgettable sadly

*2008. English electronic music duo. *Ethereal, pretty sound with kinda high pitched but soft female vocals. *It's giving crystals and tarot cards. *It's fine, but not my jam. RATING - 5.5/10

Helt ok

Not a fan!

This was boring. Her voice was fine, but boring. I don’t understand why it’s on this list. It’s nothing remarkable.

Really quiet and soft. Kind of bland. Can't imagine listening to it again. 2/5

Dreamy music. Not my thing

00’s Indie ⭐️Little Bird

Was not excited about this but I enjoyed it more than I thought. She's got an interesting voice and it's well produced. Don't know that I'd go back for more though.

Pretty, melodic and a bit dull. Doesn’t really go anywhere. I liked Caravan Girl, but otherwise it’s just a bit too mellow and bland to be engaging.

this definitely wasn't what i was expecting from the album given its description. i found this album very ethereal and magical and particularly liked the songs "eat yourself", "a&e" and "monster love", however i will have to revisit them and look at the lyrics which are crucial to me liking the songs in the end. for now i can say that "eat yourself" had beautiful, beautiful lyricism which was certainly "hidden" as the words sung by Alison were difficult to catch at a first listen. overall, a quite interesting body of work which didn't necessarily draw my attention to the fullest however was a nice addition as i was studying!

Not the party record i wanted it to be

Not my thing. A bit overproduced to my taste.

It sounds like they realized they couldn’t compete with the black keys and muse and decided to try to hang with the Indy Canadian bands and realized they couldn’t do that either. So they said ok let’s make a song for a melancholy spring morning and slightly alter it for a whole album. While it’s fine in the background it in no way deserves any attention.

ok but prefer other album

This one was a bit of a snooze for me and I find Goldfrapp hard to tell apart from some of the more modern breathy female singers. It’s not bad but not really interesting to me either.

This did absolutely nothing for me. It passed through me and left no impact whatsoever and I have no idea why. I normally enjoy this style of scenic, gentle folk pop but something just didn’t click with me here. None of the tracks or the album for that matter had an impact. I may completely missing the picture but sadly this just wasn’t for me. RELISTEN: Revisiting this and I liked it a little more than I did before, but I still wouldn’t say I fully enjoyed it. The atmosphere is definitely the strongest part it feels like walking through fog, but that same dreaminess borders on being a bit too sleepy at times. “Happiness” is the clear standout for me. It’s cohesive in sound, but not in a way that builds toward a strong emotional conclusion. Can absolutely imagine it being a great album to fall asleep to though.

Not completely boring but definitely not exciting either.

meh...

really middling retro pastiche that doesn't really go anywhere. has the veneer of a soundtrack for an early 2000s disney channel original movie. if you took the creativity from the great 1960s pop rock artists (beatles, beach boys, etc.) and distilled it to just its sound, and applied that to the most middle of the road music ever made, you'd get this. and yet somehow, it even feels less than the sum of its parts. not unlistenable, but not great.

Very well produced coma inducing fluff.

I've never listened to this album (63). Great voice but a bit boring.

Dreamy?.. Oh, you mean sleepy. Yeah, yeah, I agree

Started off okay, but lost interest as it went on. Gave me Kylie Minogue vibes, wasn't really feeling it.

I've wanted to check this band out for a while now, but this kinda feels like a bad introduction. Or maybe this is just how they sound like. I don't know. Either way, this didn't do much for me. Hard to explain why too. The sounds are quite nice, but the songs just feel weirdly hollow. They're pretty uneventful, don't really come together into anything too memorable. I liked the 2nd half of Little Bird but getting to it was kinda tedious. Happiness has some good textures too, and Caravan Girl had a solid melody. But most of this is on a consistently average level. Not exactly impressive. Better luck next time?

Not cottagecore, but extremely urban actually. And a bit boring.

I can see why this album was added onto the list, I can see why people like this album. However, this album is so not for me. This dreamy feel with the soft vocals while pleasant on the ears, feels plain boring.

This album seems...fine? Like the music is alright, but nothing to write home about. Sort of catchy but also feels pretty forgettable.

Another snoozer

Not my cup of tea!

nich mein geschmack

Vocals were great. The music hovers between ethereal and sleep-inducing in most parts. It had a very "adult contemporary" sounding on that's not really my thing. Overall it was very forgettable.

Not for me, this one

I want a list made by an American

Was listening the whole time looking like 😐

It was okay. Kind of dream/techno pop. Started to lose interest near the end. 2.5/5 Probably won't listen again

Sounded like I was listening to the soundtrack from Coraline.

I think I want to like this. Female artist, check. Singer songwriter style, check. English, check. Clean and pleasant, check. So why is this so numbingly boring and meh? Is it me? Do I need more coffee? No, this just lacks interest. And separately, what's with the pirate outfit? There wasn't one "Argh" nor any sea chanties to be found. False advertising!

Meeeeeeh. I didn't particularly like this. Too slow

Was nice enough for a listen, not exactly my go to's Will I listen to again: 5%

Mostly faded into the background for me, but there were definitely a few moments of beautiful serene dream pop that made me take notice. Favorite track: Little Bird

Completely unremarkable

This is #day417 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I don't get why this Goldfrapp album made the cut when their debut is already on the list. Seventh Tree feels forgettable and utterly inessential. I'm landing on a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day418.

OK. 2/5

I forgot what they were singing about.

The music was really pretty but SO BLAND. I feel like if i was the kind of person who liked music as background noise or fell asleep to white noise,i would like it.

I can't understand anything she is saying in the first song. The first song just made me angry in general. The album cover looks like she took some drugs and now she thinks her friend is chasing her when really they're just making sure she doesn't run into traffic. This is a solid 'eh' to me.

I remember when the first Goldfrapp album came out. Some of my co-workers at the record store loved it, so I heard it a few times. Didn't think that much of it myself. Going in to this one I was hoping their later stuff would be better. Starting in to the opening track, I thought maybe it was. A couple more songs in and, nope. Still not my thing.

Eh ... definitely one of my didn't love it didn't hate it kind of albums ... but I am sure in a month and 30 albums down the road, I won't even recall who this was or what it sounded like.

★★½

This time period of indie rock is very much in my wheelhouse. And I probably should like Goldfrapp, but I've given them a try multiple times in the past and it just hasn't happened for me. This was probably the last nail in the coffin.

I can see how someone would say this is good but I wouldn’t be honest if I said I enjoyed it. Honestly, I just kind of forgot it was on.

A pleasant nothing album. There's a place in the world for this, but it's not the lofty heights. Almost forgot I listened to this as I was listening to it. 2 is harsh since it's not bad but I think I'm mad it's on the list.

Yeah, I don't really think this lives here. It's one of those albums that seemed like it might be a classic at the time, but didn't last.

Not what I was expecting at all. The only song of theirs I knew previously was Ooh La La - so this was the polar opposite of what I was expecting Not my cup of tea, was pretty boring and bland sadly 2 ⭐️

Legalzinho. No máximo 2,5.

Soft, dull, boring, forgetable. 2 stars

Another one I’m unsure should be on 1001 albums to listen to before dying. It was fine. Vocals were good and composition of the music was good. I wouldn’t go out the way to listen again. No song really left a mark on me either

This isn't bad, but I'm not really seeing why this warrants a place on the list. It's pretty, but most songs a kind of boring. Kind of wannabe Kate Bush but without the substance. After a while, it just felt like a series of downtempo lullabies. Most songs seem to follow the structure of slow, soft opening to crescendo of drums or strings by the end. I don't think I connected with it in the same way others might. Most songs kind of blended together. I thought "A&E" stood out as something that could top adult contemporary radio-- not my style but at least it broke the mold of the rest of the songs. I thought "Caravan Girl" was the most fleshed out song, and I'm surprised it wasn't put closer to the top of the album to break out of the downtempo lull (or, it could have even been extended as the album's closing song to end with a bang, mirroring how every individual song seems to crescendo). A lot of good small ideas throughout but it didn't come together well.

Starts off alright and becomes boring after a few songs.

2.4 2x

Dreamy, ethereal but pretty much instantly forgettable. Fine for what it is but won’t be making its way into regular rotation for me.

nah 2 star

road to somewhere was lovely, but by the time I got to Cologne Cerrone Houdini, I was kinda just ready for the album to be over. its some beautiful music, don't get me wrong... but I'm not super big into the 'Enya'-style floaty songs.

Harmless but bland

I really don't think Goldfrapp are a 'two albums on the generator' kinda group - I find their music is usually good but rarely great. And so it is here. Clowns was a very promising opener but after that it drifts a bit - some nice airy textures, but quite lightweight. 2.5

Syns det var litt kjedelig. Minner litt om Lorde sitt forrige album i sounden.

There are 9 million Goldenfrapp i den første sangen.

This album is super mediocre. Not terrible, I didn't turn the volume down or anything like that. It's just that nothing stood out, nothing was memorable about this album. It had no effect on me whatsoever, I don't care if I ever hear it again.

It's not as good as their other albums, but still enjoyable Happiness is a very good song. High 2s

Bin unschlüssig öb Ichs toll gfunde han wills mal wider chli was moderners gsi isch oder öbs mer doch wider zu niedlich gsi isch. 2, 3 Lieder hani sehr schön gfunde, andere 2, 3 doch fast scho nervig.

Naja, hed mi nöd abgholt und boring Two tree by goldfrapp

Decidedly not for me, but it’s probably for somebody!

inoffensive, fine. but not interesting to me

A whole alb of meh … with a side of no thanks

Sounds like something I would like but I don’t. Kind of boring I guess.

Synth and drum machine based dreamy whimsical psychedelia with acoustic guitars, cellos, flutes and other organic instruments added to the mix to bring a natural sound for the nature theme. The main musical aspiration is creating ambience and modulating mood, layering shifting textures harmonies and effects to maintain a pleasant woozy vibe to float around on melodically. Extremely coffee shop coded electrofolk, this is from just before the Spotify driven rise of ambient playlist indie neo-muzak, but really anticipates the core of that style: breathy vocals, washed out synths, gentle acoustics, sleepy tempos, mellow unobtrusive calming vibes.

This one didn't do much for me. Lots of soft vocals and mellow moods, but I never felt hooked. I liked some of what happened musically on "Little Bird" and"Monster Love ."

I'm sure this album means something to someone. Not me

Clowns 2.4 Little Bird 2.8 Happiness 2.7 Road to Somewhere 2.3 Eat Yourself 2.3 Some People 2.4 A&E 2.2 Cologne Cerrone Houdini 2.4 Caravan Girl 2.3 Monster Love 2.3 Score: 2.41

Sounds like a lullabye version of Kate Bush in the 1980s. Hard to believe this was made in the 21st century and for some reason determined to be noteworthy. Would be a sweet little album to fall asleep to.

Again, never heard of this artist. It was a weird adult pop / easy listening vibe that didn’t appeal to me at all.

not bad. admittedly i was distracted/working but its listenable without being very standout/memorable

Meh. Not offensively bad but not very enjoyable imo

I really like Felt Mountain, but this one not so much. Favourite track: Cologne Cerrone Houndini.

Ok. Samey.

I got this album and was like "yeah! Goldfrapp rules!" though I haven't listened to them in close to 20 years and had never heard this album. Turns out they had really lost their punch by they time they got to this one. Had to go back and listen to some of their hits from previous albums and they were damn good then. This album was just kinda slow and boring.

Mostly pleasant but unremarkable.

It was ok

Not the worst but did not tickle my ear bones much

I like the genre in which Goldfrapp play. That's why I was familiar with the band's name. However, I also remember finding the music rather boring and uninteresting. So now an album by the band that has been ennobled by its position on the list. I don't realise why. I listened to the cloying and extremely boring crap for quite a while and ultimately didn't get through the whole album. The music was always on the verge of getting on my nerves. 2/5

T vibes von dem Albom send eigentlech go guet, each fends eifach chli sehr Monoton.

So far this is my least favorite album of Goldfrapp. I am not digging the folk influence. Feels too incomplete to me. Like unfinished demos. I prefer when they put the polish and sheen on. This is one of their most boring releases. Music for coma patients. The only bearable songs are "A&E" and "Caravan Girl". Their best albums are SUPERNATURE and HEAD FIRST, neither of which are on this list, and not this one or FELT MOUNTAIN.

Look- it's fine. But it's 100% one of the British bias albums on this list. I could see this album being played during an infomercial or at a mall department store makeup section. 4.25/10 (2.125/5)

Ok. Pretty samey and forgettable.

zzzzzzz.

Boring.

Is this dream pop? I got bored.

I generally like atmospheric music, but this just annoyed the shit out of me. I'd much rather listen to Black Box Recorder.

Somewhat interesting as background music while working, but that’s not much of a recommendation. I’m feeling generous, 1.5 rounded up to 2… I wouldn’t be mad if someone wanted to hear this, but doubtful I’ll revisit it on my own. I will say after reading about the artist I’m almost intrigued enough to look into some other albums, sounds like they have changed styles a few fines.

Middling mid-aughts Euro-relaxing pop.

A little folksier than their very first album which I prefer quite a bit. Nothing beats the sensuality of Ooh La La or the beat of Ride a White Horse.

Just not into this kind of stuff.

This sounds nothing like the Goldfrapp record my ma used to have in the car in her faltering middle-age. That double-pedalling is unexpected! I accidentally listened to The Seventh Tree by From Crisis to Collapse. But this Goldfrapp album doesn't sound like the Goldfrapp record my ma used to have in the car in her faltering middle-age either. That one had stomping glam beats. This doesn't really have anything like that: meandering dreampop with the odd flourish. I like Alison Goldfrapp's voice less on these ballads than on the earlier bangers, but neither is interesting or necessary. 2 There is very little worth saying about this album. In its gush of mellotron, backwards guitar, McCartneyish basslines, plonky Penny Lane piano, and dramatic strings it recalls 66-67 Beatles less than early noughties Oasis. Who else would combine all those elements with melodies as lumbering as Free Bird, Happiness or Some People? To be fair to Goldfrapp they do a much slicker line in turd-polishing than Oasis and they have that breathy ASMR vocal going for them. 1.5/5

point9.

2- Stars (4/15)

Boring and pretty, like me!

i was inexcusably bored

Good musicians not my style

sounds like something you hear in a gap store, speaking of which are those things even around? fuck im old.

The best songs are not ballads, but the album is mostly ballads.

2 sterne

Just not in the mood

Enjoyable. Atmospheric in the sense that it sounds great while you're doing stuff. I'll listen again.

The ‘wrong’ Goldfrapp album…

Not offensive. Just not memorable either.

I don’t know, an ethereal Sheryl Crow? Not digging the music enough to pay attention to the lyrics.

Of course the completely unknown 3rd album from Goldfrapp is on the list. I fully believe that Dimery hadn’t even heard 1001 albums when he made this list. Jesus Christ

Annoying as fuck

I wasnt familiar with Goldfrapp going in to this album. It has some interesting moments combining folksy vibes with electronic pop, but ultimately it didnt capture my attention. Overall- probably 2.5/5, definitely not a 3

Not for me

Ugh. Take all the things that make Port his head awesome and take them away and then you would have this album. I can't give it just one star because it was calm enough and chill enough that it was tolerable.

Pleasant enough of a listen albeit a bit too ethereal for me. But I couldn't really tell the tracks apart and they were forgotten as soon as they were finished.

I almost wish this had been worse because it's less offensive to me that an album try something out there and miss than it is to be technically sound but dead boring, like this.

Not awful but I don't know why this is mandatory listening. It sounds nice to listen to but the second it's done I couldn't tell you anything about it. If you told me this was built by a robot and looped forever I'd believe it.

Nothing stuck with me. The melodies are well constructed, but forgettable. The vocals feel repetitive quickly.

O.K. but over all a bit too lame for my taste and often I find her high voice hard to stand. favourite: "Caravan Girl" 2,5

forgettamusic whenever a line repeats i want to shout at the song "YOU DIDN'T EARN THIS!!"

It’s not terrible, just a bit meh.

I liked about half of these songs, and didn’t for the others, preferring the less electronic selections. I won’t be listening to it again.

Dreamy and quite atmospheric, but most of the time the songs fade into the background. Best song: Happiness Worst song: Clowns

Not terrible, for a minute I thought it was gonna be a Cocteau Twins clone. Ultimately fairly forgettable though.

Meh, no feelings there

Clowns is very dull!! and on reflection I found the album to be very dull. I am not a fan of her voice at all. Favourite song: Little bird is a lovely song. Least favourite: The rest of the album. Album artwork: Cool cover

Was folkier than I expected. Not enough bangers for me, compared to some of her other albums.

ist mir zu "sirenenhaft"

A little too wispy for me. Like Florence and the Machine without the backbone

Meh. Sleepy.

I found it boring. I don't even remember listening to any of the songs.

Had never heard of them. A bit too sweet and syrupy for my taste.

Very boring.

This is one of the albums I don’t see any point to it being on the list. I mean it isn’t terrible in anyway but just by hearing one song on the album you’ve basically have got the experience of the whole album. It’s all the same.

Not my type of music.

I really liked the lead single, but none of the other tracks really grabbed me.

As background music it works, listen to this entire never once getting the urge to skip a song but also never getting the urge to remember it.
