Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Did I already listen to one Goldfrapp record on this list? Or was that on my own time? I look forward to more of this confusion as the daily album list goes on. Anyways, super pretty opening song. Mystical and peaceful guitar ballad. Turns out most of the record is like that! There’s a right amount of whimsy and vulnerability in here. “Eat Yourself” is probably my highlight, but if you need to skip to something more energetic then try “Caravan Girl.” Something so nice about this time/style of music - this, Florence + The Machine, Temper Trap, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc. - it was all very cathartic pop/alternative music.

Fun dreamy pop. A pleasant listen on a cold walk.

Nice dreamy synth pop album with near unintelligible lyrics. Listened to it again with the lyrics up and Clowns is about big ole fake titties?? That really adds some starrage for me, what a vibe. But seriously, A&E is incredibly beautiful, Caravan Girl is lovely too and the rest is a nice vibe.

Beautiful and ethereal but not all that exciting. No real standout songs anywhere on the album as they all pretty much just blend into one another and none of them really have any sort of climax.

Definitely a beautiful album from a talented artist with a beautiful voice. Very quiet and mellow music with a depth of emotion. I wish she would do more tempo changes as in Caravan Girl which reminds me of the best of Metric. 3.5 stars

Other reviewers summed this up perfectly- nice to listen to but samey and forgetful. Even so I didn't dislike it.

It's kinda airy fairy and doesn't really go anywhere, it's pretty much ambient to the point of nothingness, it's deffo not bad....but it's just a bit forgettable

This is pretty nice, I really like the lush production and atmosphere. There's a kind of familiarity to the style, although I think that's because I'm sure my mum used to play Goldfrapp in the car when I was little. It is kind of reminiscent of Cocteau Twins too My main issue is probably the pacing. The vibe stays pretty consistent throughout so it does sometimes feel like it's coasting a little bit, but I think the energy picking up a little bit towards the end and the runtime prevent that from being a dealbreaker. Alison Goldfrapp's airier vocals on tracks like Eat Yourself aren't my favourite either, although she does show quite a good, versatile range across the album so it doesn't bother me too much 3.5, pretty good Highlights: Happiness, Road to Somewhere

It was enjoyable to discover who Goldfrapp is through this project, and I found this and Felt Mountain to be solid listens. I still don’t understand how they have two albums on this list and a band like Weezer has zero, but I think it’s a result of British band bias.

Not in my edition of the book! 2008. 3 stars. Not her best work - see Black Cherry for that - but it's still fine. Gorgeous voice and atmospheric strings, but a lot of the songs do blend into each other. Bonus point for "A&E" which is the best overdose song ever.

I don’t know whether I hate this or absolutely love this record. I can’t deny how pleasant the music sounds to my ears though, very soothing

It's not rubbish but it never feels like it really gets going

Slow burn, I didn't like this initially and found it boring but was able to keep listening over. Stand out track Monster Love and Little Bird

The first track is fantastic and I enjoyed some others, but overall it wasn’t strong enough to bump up to 4 stars. I will say a lot of these songs sounded like they could have been on the Twilight soundtrack and I mean that in a good way.

Not bad.

There was probably more going on than I had the bandwidth to pick up yesterday. It was all pleasant. But it kind of felt like background music to me

First of all - there’s really no need for two Goldfrapp albums on this list. I’ll scream if there happens to be a third later on. Not as boring and generic as the other Goldfrapp on here. There is definitely a lot to enjoy here, but I really hate the static noise every time the vocals appear on the quieter songs. Is it an aesthetic choice? Is it a mistake? I sure hope it’s the latter. It’s a low three, but I feel like a two is too harsh.

Strangely enjoyable - even if it's a bit dreamily wispy-sounding. A bit repetitive, not a lot of variety in their soundscape. But not bad at all.

Man this one was slow and melancholy to me. Not bad, but not someone I would listen to on purpose.

It's not even Goldfrapps best album, How did it get on this list?

soothing and hypnotic. you could fall asleep to most of this album, but in a good way.

Light and airy. Not my thing but I kinda liked it.

As enjoyable as it is, "Seventh Tree" is like a dream: you listen to it, like it, and then forget about it. And even though the production is wonderful and the lyrics seem interesting, that's still not enough to make anyone interested. But the album isn't terrible, Alison Goldfrapp brings beautiful vocals to the table and the concept seems to bring something good, which makes the album worth listening to.

The dreamy of the dream-pop can verge on too dreamy for me, but they somehow ground it just enough to keep me listening. Things can get psychy and eerie out of nowhere, another nice touch. It helps to have an angelic voice keeping things engaging.

Let me get this right - the debut album, Felt Mountain contained Lovely Head and Humans. Black Cherry had Strict Machine and Black Cherry. Supernature had Number One and Ooh La La. But none of these albums were picked even though they were well acclaimed and danceable and groundbreaking at the time. Alison Goldfrapp certainly mustered a lot of traction. But for this project, they went with the fourth album, which is a little bit folky but otherwise blander than the previous albums. Apparently Alison was going for the pagan look and sound here. The cover reminded me of a 1970s film à la Barry Lyndon. Any of those other albums I think it would’ve been a straight 4. The fact that I have to listen to A&E on the morning that I have to call the paramedics out to my mother is maybe apposite but not fun. Happiness I guess is the antidote to that. A good song but not half as danceable as earlier Goldfrapp.

I listened to this and enjoyed it, but nothing really stuck with me (apart from the mesmerizing second song). I had a hard time grabbing onto the identity of this album, but I could chalk it up to my state of mind. I'd definitely give this another spin.

This fell a little flat for me, which I thought was unusual because this genre is right up my alley.

Bit of a mood album. Good to listen to on a Sunday morning or on a rainy day. Very chill and understated. Won't listen to it all the time but might revisit on the right day. Decent.

Very sweet, too sweet. Despite that, it wont really stick with you.

This is my 200th album. What a big milestone for me. The album itself was alright, not too bad. It reminded me of Coldplay's "Ghost Stories". Looks like I'll be getting more interesting albums from now on. 3 stars for "Seventh Tree".

Meh. I did not mind this but I won't come back to this.

Not bad

Happiness // Some People //

soft and wistful and not really drawing me in or pushing me away... happiness was fun

I really enjoyed listening to this album. The mellow vibe and the vocals were captivating.

Very moody and clean produced, beautiful singing … happiness is nice but most singles don’t stand out but I can def see a use and enjoyment out of album replay

Soft, easy songs to listen to. Not particularly memorable but I do want to listen to it again.

If st vincent played piano not guitar, it would sound like this

Very mellow

Perfectly pleasant Kate Bush/Beatles riffs. Nothing more substantial than that. I imagine driving around with this CD in my car in 2008 as background music. That kind of thing

Liked this alright. I expected more electronic and less folk, but I liked what I got. 3.25/5

Yh meh it’s all just a tad samey, the penultimate track was good tho

Songs like "A&E" and "Caravan Girl" have some character here, but it's not so much the rule as the exception.

Very nice, light and dreamy vocals

Yes, good.

It's fine. A nice gentle morning listen.

Its ok. I really like Happiness. Cute sound. Boring in some parts but nothing outright bad or offensive. Happiness has replay potential but I doubt I’ll ever peep this project again.

Pretty good

3.5… overall I enjoyed it. Really liked Little Bird.

General impression: quite nice Detailed review: This is a lovely little indie-pop record. Having never listened to Goldfrapp, but understanding in context that they’re more of a synth-pop band, I didn’t expect this to be so measured and sophisticated. I liked the quieter songs better, like “Eat Yourself.” Liked the poppier tracks less, like “Happiness.” I may return to this at some point, though admittedly I’m not in a rush to. It’s just kind of a nice, breezy thing. Deeper thoughts (context): I have none. Score: 3.2 Number of albums left to review: 959 Number of albums from the list I’d consider “must-listens”: 24 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 18 (including this one)

Lalala! Lala!

3☆/5 11.05.2024

Late Bush.

kinda boring when people tell you about their dream

Little bird is as if the Beatles recorded today. It’s fantastic

Promising ideas in places and a beautiful voice, but ultimately falls short and is boring as a result. Too bad.

Day295 - i read electonic and was ready to hate it but this is more folk and it’s pretty good

A nice dream pop album by Goldfrapp - it's one of those albums where I find the second half more engaging and overall better than the first half. It works quite well as an album though individually the songs aren't too memorable.

Its calming and relaxed. But these songs dont feel unique after listening to the whole album. Still a solid album. 3.0/5.0

Kinda sounds like diet Bjork with more synths. Not always my vibe, but there are a few quality songs here. Best song: Happiness

I enjoyed that way more than I expected. Very chill listen, pleasant throughout but no big standout tracks either

Ethereal sound. Pretty, but didn’t hook me.

Again a duo I never heard of.

Nice enough, got a bit samey but yeah good

Way better than their other album. Can't believe it's the same band

Neat stuff happening musically, don’t care as much for her vocals unfortunately

Happiness is a great track. The rest were decent but I think that’s three Goldfrapp albums we’ve had now and that’s probably enough.

Album 549 of 1001 Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree (2008) Rating : 2.75 / 5 Usually when I see an album described as "Electronica", I'm ready to swat it down as a waste of time. This one is Electronica/Pop and I do think it passes muster. The "pop" aspect peeks through and makes it an interesting album. Can't say it has anything that could come close to a hit but overall it is some nice dreamy, low key mood music. Something relaxing while you do your thing.

Intelligent pop. 'Clows' is naggngly an earwork and 'Happiness' more annoyingly catching. I'd put her in the same category as Christine and the Queens.

Not bad but not great. Forgettable

I wasn't concentrating on my first pass and it didnt grab my attention. A second go with headphones was much more profitable and revealed a floaty surface with a good number of layers with substance underneath. Lovely vocals, some good hooks and some nice orchestration and production. Nothing to blow the socks off but an interesting listen

Never heard of this band before. Very accessible with music with ethereal echoes of Kate Bush.

First time listening to Goldfrapp and I'm not sure what to think. My attention alternates between enjoying the prettiness of the songs and disinterest. I guess it's one of those artists where the songs are better experienced individually than as a collection. Good to know this exists out there in the world.

I had not heard of Goldfrapp before. I listened to this album a couple of times and then some of her other work at random. This album was good, but based on the sampling, I enjoyed some of her other stuff more. Still, there's clear talent here and I will be enjoying Goldfrapp in my music rotations in the future.

Nothing memorable, but an easy listen 3/5

Oh, man. I thought I was going to hate this after about ten measures of the first song. I thought I was going to be a Joni Mitchel type of album as soon as I heard her hit a high note. I was pleasantly surprised. The melodies were nice and catchy. It's a bit on the melancholy/downtempo side, so not something I'd likely listen to again, but will probably give some of their other music a listen.

Started poorly, but got a lot better. Ended up listening a couple times and enjoying it.

Not bad!

Kind of a sleepy album, yet A&E is an excellent song.

This is decent but I wouldn't go around listening on my own time.

This had some decent moments, especially near the end. Some junk too.

I enjoyed the drippy synth of the earlier records more. There were to many down tempo songs here for me.

pretty decent

all songs a good length. egg poachers. warmth and innocence—or maybe more like a memory of innocence—radiate from this album. maybe that’s just cause the lighting on the cover kind of reminds me of an cailín ciúin.

A string of albums that aren't altogether offensive but don't inspire a lot of reflection. Hopefully, this is the last one? At least for a while? Anyway, nothing against Goldfrapp. 'Felt Mountain' would be welcome in any 2000s canon as would 'Black Cherry,' honestly. "Strict Machine" is a song worthy of an A, as is "Ooh La La." I appreciate any artist who is serious about pastiche, even if that results in an uneven discography. On 'Seventh Tree,' we hear the duo in Goldfrapp take on indietronica with some folk music contours in the mix. The result is a perfectly delightful Sunday-picnic-core for people with those tiny little tattoos on their arms and hands. "Caravan Girl" in particular is a song that I'll certainly return to, particularly on warm summer afternoons. It is bouncy, lively, and upbeat without being craven or dumb, or (of course) over-saturated. B

Steady 3.

Honestly, I thought this album was okay, but I don't think it is nearly as good as their first album or even as good as their second album. I may like this more than their third, but I just still don't think a lot grabbed me from this album to give it more than a "good."

Kinda sounds like what hipster girls having afternoon tea would listen to back in the 90s. It's pretty, and it doesn't hurt to listen to, I'll give 3 stars

A fantastic vibe trip all the way through, and it sets the stage for a lot of singer-songwriter music of the later 2010s. This gets buried by a lot of other music from the time, but it's honestly very well made. The mix of more electronic instruments with Goldfrapps vocals creates an almost acoustic feel. Favorites are Little Bird, Road to Somewhere, and Eat Yourself

The arrangements here are very good. I’m not sure how this did in 2008, but I feel as though if this was released today it would be huge. Favorites were Little Bird, A&E, and Caravan Girl.

Pleasant background music.

If I had a nickel for every obscure British album with the word "seventh" in the name that I got in the past week, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Anyways, this one's alright. I don't love it or anything, but I would call it a good album. Alison Goldfrapp's vocals are a bit incomprehensible at times, but at least they sound nice. The instrumental sound is nice too. There's a pretty solid blend of electronic elements with the acoustic folk base. It works. The writing is respectable and good. I like the songs. None of them are particularly bad. They kind of blend together, but this isn't the worst instance of that happening especially because the songs themselves are good. I don't have a ton to say. This is a pretty good album. High 3/5.

A strange album for me, I remember it as chilled and relaxing but at the same time I really can't remember anything about it.

Nice. Really nice. Far too nice. Just an ikkle bikkle wookums of a album, isn't it? Yes it is, yesitis.

Yet another ex-1001 album!™ http://1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie.wikidot.com/album-artists-a-z-ex I quite enjoyed it, pleasant and dreamy, unfortunately quite forgettable. Well, except for Happiness, that got suck in my head for the rest of the day. ...and those gorgeous eyes!

This is very relaxing easy listening

Clowns Happiness A&E

A nice album. Nothing special but a good listen.

Not bad. Not exactly good, but not bad. The music is calm and relaxing with a dreamlike quality. Like most dreams it is forgotten as soon as it's over

This was a very nice album, dreamy and surreal. It reminded me a little of Lemon Jelly in places. Although it was enjoyable, it was also instantly forgettable.

Very heavy shades of the Beatles, with a touch of the Beach Boys and Pink Floyd, and a sprinkling of folk, pop, and psychedelia. It’s not bad, and another album that ended up being better than I thought it would be. Could grow on me further over time.

Good album, but her first one is much better.

A&E was a pretty big standout. The whole record is nice sounding and clearly heartfelt, but the lack of any bigness kinda holds it back. Liked it more than I thought, might revisit

decent 3/5

very bland but not bad at all

Didn't listen properly, was building a lookout tower. Inoffensive

Took a while to get going, but the back end is great. Favourite track: Eat Yourself.

Not really sure I needed this one before I die. Sure its fine, but hard to imagine this moved music in any significant direction. Not a big fan of Clowns out of the gate -- something about it just rubs me wrong. Little Bird is better. For what it is, this is a fairly calming record. Never really captured my attention in any significant way, but I didn't necessarily mind it being there. 3 / 5.

Couple of good songs, but I don't care for the breathy vocals. Low 3.

I enjoyed this one far more than I expected. Didn't really go anywhere but it was a pleasant summer album with some cool background sounds and solid production. High 3.

Лучшая песня - Some People.

Seventh Tree is the fourth studio album by Goldfrapp, originally released in 2008. I remember getting another Goldfrapp record earlier in this list, and I absolutely hated it. This one was better. I noticed a lot more folk influence, but still a fair dose of electronica as we have come to expect from Goldfrapp. This record certainly seems like a more mature output from the duo. There is a decent range in overall sound between the tracks, and they avoid trapping themselves in the electro-pop box. While I am not totally enamored with the singer's voice, it is not inoffensive. It is clear that this record would prove influential to future music scenes such as folktronica and dream pop.

okay listen. 1,001 must listen? the jury is still out on this 2008 entry by an artist that I've never heard of. 3/5

Definitely not essential listening, but pretty good

Another solid album by the british electronic duo. Prefer their debut more though. Love the soft, ethereal vocals

happiness eat yourself cologne cerrone houdini caravan girl

Some of Seventh Tree is really nice and memorable, and some of it isn't. The second half of the album is much better than the first and has quality in A&E and Caravan Girl in particular, so you end up feeling positive about it rather than so many records that meander off to weak finishes. She has a beautiful voice, the ethereal dreaminess isn't overdone like some other work of the genre, doesn't reach any excellent heights but I'm happy to give this a 3, it made me feel good.

This is decent, without anything that is particularly mindblowing. One of those albums that I'll be happy to listen to again, but really don't think it's something you need to listen to before you die (unlike the other Goldfrapp album we had, that I found much better). This is less psychedlic, and that takes something away from it, it doesn't have the same dreamy vibes as the other album did but it doesn't really replace it with much. There are a couple of songs towards the end with a bit more energy, but it's not mindblowing. Think it's a low 3.

mindblowing opener. the warm and lush guitar and strings with the slightly childish vocals really comes together and feels so ethereal despite the song being about fake tits; love it. to be honest, i did not expect much from this based on the album cover and the artist name. i thought this was going to be some pop or country music from the 2000s. definitely did not expect this direction at all. however, besides the first three track run, the rest seemed pretty underwhelming. theyre still ok, but i dont really find standing out a whole lot. because of that, i wouldnt find myself listening to most of these tracks again. 3 personal favs: clown, little bird

Liked the dancey stuff more but it was ok

Where did this come from? Never heard of the Frapp. I was entranced by this siren as she lulled me into musical hypnosis. Although a rather slow album it held my attention with full musical arrangements and soothing tone. A little bit of a Metric or Melodies Echochamber vibe. I liked it and will delve into more of their work...2.85.

Who the F is Goldfrapp? This seems like an artist that should have crossed my radar and should have more attention. Some creative melodic electronic music that reminds me of a few other artists I enjoy. I can't quite put my finger on it but overall it was a pretty good.. Another good recommendation by 1001 for something I've never heard of. Might check out more of them. Seems like something my wife and a few friends might enjoy. 2.76 stars

Favorite Track: Happiness

Not the worst thing I’ve heard. But unlikely to listen to again

An interest concept album about a tree and the start of Folktronica

after hearing their debut Felt Mountain, i didn’t think these guys were a very good band, this album is better than their debut in every aspect, a big improvement, it wasn’t an amazing album in my opinion but i enjoyed it a lot more than the debut.

Musically I was very impressed. Think it warrants another listen. Complete change to other music so far and lots to like.

Actually enjoyed some of these tracks.

Absolute pleasure listening to this. Chilled out melodic tunes that bathe you in a warmth all over. Loved it.

It's not bad, just boring. Next time I hear this album, I will think it is the first time I am hearing it again.

This was cute. Goldfrapp is always good. This runs a little pop for me. But it’s really nice, upbeat, not annoying.

Its fine, but at some points it meanders a bit. The best moments sound really nice tho.

A lovely record. Very sweet, good production and interesting songs. Would listen again

Agradable audición, pero no innova ni perdura.

"Clowns" is a great opener. I was initially turned off before even starting after the list gave me yet another 'electronic' group. So 'Clowns' is a great breath of fresh air.

Not the most exciting album to listen, but I really like the electro pop sound here

#211. The only thing I can think to say about this album is fine. It's fine. Not really much else there. Also, the cover looks like the cover to 'Mary Kate and Ashley Solve the Mystery of the Pirate Treasure' or something 3/5: fine

Saw yet another " English electronic music duo" and nearly barfed in my mouth. Pleasantly surprised though - enjoyed the listen. Nothing really stuck with me, but not upset to have spent the time on it.

I liked the nice trancey vibe, but most of it sounded a little too similar. Would've liked to hear that sound used a little more creatively

The singer had a good voice, overall not too exciting but I did enjoy “Happiness”

Good enough, but nothing to write home about.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Kinda blends together but quite a few standouts and some interesting ideas. Fav track: little bird.

This has a nice vibe and atmosphere

another vanilla ice cream indy album.

Cool et relax

OK but a bit wishy-washy for me

The overall vibe of the music I like. It is relaxing, and has a lot of electronic influences to it. I can't really say any of the individual songs are thst strong.

Listened to a fair amount of the album. I like it

Dream pop with a lovely voice. The music hits its stride in many ways, however it doesn’t always ride the wave for long, due to the constant state of change. I don’t have a problem with anything in particular I just don’t see myself adding this to the rotation. There is a presence of beauty and strong song composure, regardless.

Rich, atmospheric sound that's pleasing on the ears. Fave Songs: Little Bird, Road to Somewhere, A&E, Clowns, Some People, Monster Love

A proper chanteause! Kept me listening to hear the end before I got out of my car as it was pleasantly memorizing

A lot of these songs feel like they could have been recorded in the past couple of years.

The album art really threw me with this album. 😅 I was expecting more indie, less synth. It was a weird blend of genres. It was a nice listen, though, I didn’t love the production. The parts where the singing sounded the best, the synth drowned her out. I also didn’t love that you could hear the mouth noises and static from the vocal recording. I dug a bit deeper into this band because I was curious, and damn, Supernature is so good. They do electronic dance right. This was a bit more of a miss.

Relaxing, enjoyable album, but nothing special.

Pretty good actually. Gal’a got a decent voice and the electronica is tempered with enough pop hooks to make it listenable. I checked out a couple other albums - liked Silver Eyethe best.

I liked their first album Felt Mountain when it was the record of the day but this one just sounds pretty much the same, maybe a little more folksy. I did not like this one as much. Nothing against it really, its just nothing to write home about, its barely enough to write this review about.

Not my thing really. But I enjoyed the listening experience enough.

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Happiness (3) 2 - A&E (6) 3 - Road to Somewhere (4)

Nice enough background music, but didn't hold my attention

pretty basic at times but also pretty cool at times. very 3 star album

Fae music fav song happiness

I liked her voice, even though it did remind me occasionally of a lot of other singers (autotune perhaps?). The music varied from interesting to treacly. Something like "Caravan Girl" I could see other artists covering and it heralded as "groundbreaking" or somesuch. But ultimately there wasn't a standout. That breathy, bubbly singing is good for only so long. I need some primal screaming at some point and it just wasn't happening here. So I can see this as nice background music, but it just kinda washes over you and you forget what you're listening to, and that's not good. You want it to stand out a little, you know?

Great background music overall not bad

Back to the start after some poppier electronica suits Goldfrapp well

Not as good as the other Goldfrapp on the list, this was just ok (2.5/5)

Good old Goldfap, slow and sensual, borderline ASMR, it's gonna take you places you never knew existed...

Good sound. Starts out really solid then kinda declines. Enjoyable synth pop album

Better than I had expected and gave me an opportunity to address this weird dislike for Goldfrapp which must have been based largely on her positioning as an indie icon of sorts. Which wasn’t her call anyway. A good album with some really cool moments.

It's alright. Is it worthy of being on this list though?

Trancy electro folk

Chill album that doesn’t really go anywhere and that’s OK, if here is where you want to be.

Goldfrapp made some killer electropop bangers earlier in the decade. And by the time that sound started gaining mainstream attraction, she took this record in a much mellower direction based on folktronica. Ethereal and ambient with lush provocative melodies, ambiguous lyrics, and a confident yet melancholic voice. We've still got some upbeat bangers in here, most notably "Happiness", but the majority forms a cohesive collection of slow, thoughtful, emotional tracks. I do think there's a lot of missed potential here. "A&E" is a beautiful lead single, but still feels like it's missing something and leaves a bit to be desired. "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" is the strongest deep cut and shows what the other tracks could have been. They all have their quirks, and the only truly forgettable one is "Some People", but it could been much more. It is my type of music though, but I won't let my bias bump up the score.

Enjoyed revisiting this. Overall the album is poppier than I remember. There are some great tracks and her voice is extraordinary.

Oh, much less poppy than I thought it would be. Some lovely moments, and a couple tracks I really liked, but also long stretches where my attention drifted.

really good

At first listen, I thought it was fine, but I suspect this is more of a grower than a shower. Her voice makes the album feel cohesive. I’d like to listen again. 2.7

Pretty good. Not as electro as expected. Downtempo and chill. Dig it. 3.8

Goldfrapp is another one that I've never had any interest in. Slightly proved wrong I think. First track was amazing, really wish it was an entire album in that style. The rest of it was good but not great, nice background music but nothing really grabbing. 3.5*

stepped out of the disco disco phase and in to direct competition with zero 7 and morcheeba.

Gold- fap.

Best Song: Caravan Girl. I liked the buzzier, more electric feel here. Worst Song: Cologne Cerrone Houdini. Just sounds like some standard radio fare. Overall: It is evidently possible to be too wispy and ethereal. Some of this takes too much from the Bob Dylan school of articulation, but the good parts do have a nice flowing softness to them. Music that forcibly places itself in the background.

Blind album and artist. Don't really feel anything good or bad after listening but glad I tried it!

Pleasant.

Pleasantly surprising!

A dreamy, collection of songs, perfect for a chilled evening. Yet disappointment follows; the songs fail to explore interesting musical avenues that seem within reach. With a little more effort, this album could have moved from good to essential. In reality, it will be forgotten within a generation.

Took me by surprise seeing a second Goldfrapp album. Are they really on that level? It's equally inoffensive as the first. I'll keep this group in mind the next time I need some swanky dinner music. 🍷🍷🍷

Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would – definitely a tad too mellow for the runtime, but not to the point where I was bored or lost interest. When the drums do kick in, the LP nails a great blend of emotional electronica (especially for a musical project whose entire thesis was 'big tree dream'). Reminds me of a more electronic Tennis project, and that's a great thing in my book.

Not quite my music style

This was enjoyable.

Wistful and nice in places but doesn't do much for me.

SOOOOO MID: this whole album was just back to back meh songs. Only one track in the whole album got me somewhat interested but the rest was just so overrated. This is my second Goldfrapp album and although this is better, I'm not sure what audience she is drawing because I haven't heard anything changing up music. MID.

Background music for those who don't like background music, mainly because it can't possibly leave an impression on you. It's just there. And again, it's FINE. It just doesn't need to be singled out as one of 1,001 albums you need to hear. Bumping final score up a notch due to the fact that the chick on the album cover resembles a young, Foul Play era Goldie Hawn.

I dont hate it, but I dont love it either. I'm confused as to why this would be on a list of albums that everyone must hear before they die, though. 3/5

Loved Black Cherry when it came out, but haven't listened to them again much over the years. This one is okay but not one I'd probably return to.

Nice interesting album

Pleasant singing and warm, laid back music. Was expecting upbeat electro like Moloko, so received this more thoughtful and mature sound well.

Kinda folky, but really ephemeral, spacey, chill rock, hipster coffee shop chick music

It's fine. All fine. Had it on in the background and it was all very soothing and calming. But isn't this meant to be the greatest EVER? Some recency bias here I suspect.

Not my type

Ooh this is splitting me down the middle!! I have never listened to anything but the hits from Goldfrapp and I don't know what I think about listening to an album... It's very dreamy and chill sounding, the sounds are really delish including Alison's voice. I really love the song A&E and I loved listening to the rest of the album but apart from A&E none of the other new-listen tracks actually stood out to me at all in particular but as a whole they did and I listened twice. I like it when I can pick out some lyrics or sounds in particular which stood out to me though or if it tells some story so it was lacking in that department even after two listens.

I do like Goldfrapp but don't love. This was pretty good but it's not something I'd listen to often but when it's on the radio I'm quite happy

Enjoyable.

"Seventh Tree" by Goldfrapp is a departure from the electronic sound that defined their earlier work. Released in 2008, it's a more subdued and folk-oriented album that explores a softer, dreamier sonic landscape. Tracks like "A&E" and "Happiness" showcase Alison Goldfrapp's ethereal vocals and the album's more organic instrumentation. The production is lush and atmospheric, creating a tranquil listening experience. While "Seventh Tree" is a departure from their electronic roots, it can be seen as a step toward musical versatility. However, some fans of their earlier, more energetic work may find this album less engaging. It's a solid effort, but its departure from the familiar Goldfrapp sound may not resonate with all listeners, earning it a 3/5 rating.

This duo and their music are all new to me, and I think this is a really good album. These enjoyable and interesting tracks are very well-composed and performed superbly. The vocal work is outstanding, their sense of melody is strong, I love the harmonies, and I am impressed by the overall arrangement of each tune. Very, very skilled group here. Nice.

This was just okay

its alright i guess. not my type of thing but there were a few songs I enjoyed for sure. Little Bird is beautiful and the breakdown at the end is amazing. solid background noise album.

3.1 - "Alison, honey, please stand up straight. Take a deeeeep breath...that's it. Feel your diaphragm filling up with air. Now, please stand away from the microphone. Your lips should not be parked right up against that thing. OK, better! Now, let's hear you project out. A little louder! Louder! Oops, let's remember to enunciate our words, right! Lips, teeth, tip of the tongue? Try again. That's a girl!"

Makes for good background music, a bit samey right through.

B- Clowns 4 Little Bird 2 Happiness 4 Road to Somewhere 3 Eat Yourself 4 Some People 3 A&E 2 Cologne Cerrone Houdini 3 Caravan Girl 2 Monster Love 3 I had no idea who Goldfrapp was. I did not expect to like her. She was a sassy blonde woman in a pirate costume. But did she do it? Oh, she did it. Amen to the mf'er who picked this album. Hallelujah!

She’s so Lana/Fleetwood Mac Coded

Pleasant dream pop/folktronica. Favourites: Road to Somewhere, A&E, Caravan Girl

I was a little disappointed by this one. I already knew and liked “Happiness”, but that turned out to be it. It was still alright though. I wonder if Felt Mountain is on this list— maybe I’ll like that one more.

Don't think I've listened to this album before, and I can't help but be a little disappointed that it's not the ethereal trip-hoppiness of "Felt Mountain" or the electroclash of the two albums after that. I guess I should let artists evolve as they see fit. 😒 I'm sure I'd grow to like this more with repeated listens as her voice is still absolutely lovely. Fave track - "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" sounded the closest to my expectations of what Goldfrapp should sound like, so that one...

Nice album but nothing great, good for background chill time.

An absolute mood. Starts off really well, but trails off into a blurred nothingness. A sunny day, getting a bit too hot and sticky.

Goldfrapp seems to endlessly reinvent themselves. I listened to this album with interest since I didn't know it, but I have to say, it doesn't come close to the power of 2000's release of 'Felt Mountain' whose song "Horse Tears" has captivated me for the better part of a year (a discovery for me). If you were nonplussed by this album and are fairly new to this band, don't stop here, because there is a lot of variability between their albums. Seventh Tree lacks that kind of power and seems like an interim album until something more brilliant comes from their wellspring. Listenable, pleasant, but none of the earlier power.

Like a lot. Pastoral, downtempo. Hints of Vashti Bunyan and 70s folk. It washes over a bit but I like the ride.

First listen to this one. I thought I would hate it, but I didn't it. She has a really pretty voice that kinda drew me in.

Demasiado suave pero a re escuchar

First time hearing this one. I like the sound. Standouts: A&E, Happiness, Caravan Girl Singles: ----------------------------------------- "A&E" "Happiness" "Caravan Girl" "Clowns" 3/5

Enjoyable enough

Pleasant listen. Nothing really standout

Mellow, chill, but didn't really grab me. Not too many thoughts on this, to be honest.

The first song made me think I was in for 45 minutes of "girl who sounds like a wounded bird," but she pulled out of the nosedive. Some interesting stuff, but little I'm going to go back for later. Best track: Caravan Girl

Good but not great. There's decent songs here, but production is so overblown (mostly) that they struggle to be heard. Better than I expected from them at this late stage of their career, but a bit of an unnecessary inclusion on the list in my opinion

I like Goldfrapp and enjoyed the album, it was right for the day. Not my most favourite of their music. High 3*

Wasn't expecting to like this either but actually it was very pleasant.

It was a pleasant listen but wouldnt listen to it normally

3,5. Draumkennt popp. Þarf aðra yfirferð.

This album had so much potential, but ultimately did not live up to it. The first few songs were really engaging but then the album began to drag and the songs started to become indistinguishable from each other. The music and vocals were ethereal but just didn't pay off in a satisfying way.

Pretty good, prefer Felt Mountain

Ethereal and light. A sweet soundtrack to a breezy holiday. And of course the inimitable vocal flavour of Goldfrapp. Not as mind-blowing as Felt Mountain, but I’m sold.

Speciaal. Wat zweverig en downtempo.

day 7. A pleasant listen with a little darker/moodiness underneath, which leaves me feeling like there's more to chew on than what seems to be on the surface. Ex A - Happiness, super upbeat but gives serious culty vibes. At the same time, as soon as I finished listening I forgot what everything sounded like, and had to relisten to a few tracks to remember what my favorites were. I was not familiar with Goldfrapp before and now I kind of want to listen to more, but I don't know that I'll be running back to this album. 3/5 Faves: Little Bird, Happiness

Kinda pretty, mostly boring.

Dig this dreampop vibe, was a solid zone out album on plane ride watching the sunny clouds. Seems pretty layered and lush and decent hooks. Nothing that memorable though, but would revisit and rotate into some playlists.

Tämä levy sopi hyvin tähän päivään eli aurinkoiseen kevääseen. Vahvatunnelmainen läpeensä

Catchy melodies on this record and I liked it quite a bit.

Some very nice tracks, most just didn't grab me. Too tired to go any deeper Fav track: Some people

A pleasant listen - it did feel like it fizzled out a bit and never lived up to anything extraordinary, but still had a good time playing this in the car. Good vibes. Fave track - Happiness

3/10, 30%

Vuosikymmen käytetty siihen että soundi saadaan hieman syötävämmiksi pikkupennuille... Maitoako.. heh... vahva ruoka se kuuluisi meikälle.. Good enough that I considered giving it a 4, but ultimately there wasn't enough grabbing me here to give it that rating. My favourite song was Happiness.

It was good. I liked it. Especially little bird. 6.5/10

Missed this at the time but quite nice.

ett fint album, en stark trea!

Perfectly pleasant dream pop. That being said, Goldfrapp’s best work has a harder beat behind it.

Mellow folky stuff. Ok

Nicely textured, but uneven songwriting for me, likely a bit too ambient for my taste tbh. But the parts i liked, I liked a good deal.

okay album, some songs are nice. Can listen on streaming platforms but wouldn't buy a record.

I expected a great album cover with just crap music, but it was good at the end. Nothing remarkable, but far from annoying.

This is what happens when Magical Mystery Tour is your kid’s first Beatles album

All right! 3

Bra och behagligt.

Liked it but tapered off, kinda one note.

It pulled me in and lost me several times, but “Monster Love” won me over.

Indie, emotional. Simple but pleasant instrumentals. Her voice is raspy. 3.5

I appreciate the elegance of her voice and the soft nature of the entire album, there are truly some beautiful moments. It just feels like it drags on a bit and lacks some moments of dynamics to bring it up at points. Beautiful sound though.

Not bad

I like the vocal and instrumentation but the songs are not interesting.

The problem with doing these reviews in a stream of consciousness fashion while I listen to the records is that sometimes I end up writing a mini-novel, other times I got nothing. This record was fine, but I didn’t find it very inspiring.

Pitchfork kinda took a dump on this album. Apparently this is a folksier style for this artist, and they're usually known for clubbier pop (I've heard the name but couldn't really place it. I think maybe I recognize it from a FIFA soundtrack? If so, the clubby bit makes sense). Anyway, I didn't think it was all that bad. I ended up saving 4 songs which is more than I usually leave an album remembering. It was pretty pleasant but had a few songs that built really nicely. Standouts: Little Bird, Happiness, A&E, Caravan Girl

Really nice album, some good songs and altogether a pleasant listen. Not sure it should make any best ever lists but nice all the same.

This was an interesting album to get. I've never heard Goldfrapp before but have definitely seen the name and this album cover at record stores, so I wasn't sure what to expect at all. I liked this album, it has good vibes. I'm interested to hear some other albums by Goldfrapp considering the wiki says this was a big departure from their more electronic/dance albums. I would definitely listen to this one again. Not sure that it will go into my library but I wouldn't turn it off if it came on and could see myself Shazaming some of these standout tracks if I heard them in a movie or at a restaurant. All in all, good album. Standout Tracks: Clowns, Little Bird, Eat Yourself, Cologne Cerrone Houdini, Caravan Girl, Monster Love.

I like this type of music, very free sounding but didn't find any songs that grabbed me

The second encounter for me in this list with this interesting duo that I’d previously never heard of. I can’t recall if I had this issue with the previous one but this is marred by some very muddy recording/mixing on some tracks. I like this generally and Goldfrapp herself definitely ranks now for me as one of the significant singers of this era of pop music. I feel like my regard might increase if I spent more time with the lyrics which I wasn’t really getting on one go around.

Pretty

Dreamy and listening too it put me in a better mood than I was in. Maybe I need to listen to it some more but I fould Seventh Tree lacked the impact of Black Cherry

I loved Goldfrapp's first album; it was retro and modern in a way that hadn't really been done before. The follow-up went in a new electroclash direction that was just as good. Somehow, I never heard this, but it doesn't feel quite as adventurous as the first two albums. Instead, it plays it safe with Radio 2-friendly pop.

Surprisingly solid eh Nolan? Nolan: Yuh

Music for car adverts. Pure listening wall paper. Best Tracks: Clowns; Happiness; A&E

Pretty good. Pretty forgettable. Dreamy folk pop.

ok. Interesting

Fine without being anything spectacular

very Lana and Hatchie esque, amazing first song

Is Goldfrapp the Lenny Kravitz of the electropop? Many of their albums have the perfect sound and always contains a good share of strong songs but also sound a bit too much pastiche. A good example here is Cologne Cerrone Houdini: very obvious references to 70s euro disco (not only in the title but also the Amanda Lear way of singing etc). It is a 5-star song so great, but I am a little less keen on all those English folk references and usually go for a different Goldfrapp album. Overall score: 3.5.

I thought this was quite pleasant sounding upon the first listen, but in the second round it already started to feel a bit empty.

Clowns- don't like garbled vocals here, sounds like those what English sounds like to non-English speakers Little Bird- lyrics intentionally simplistic.l like production on this Happiness- like lyrics, production👍 Road to somewhere - definitely conjures up a particular vibe effectively👍 Eat yourself- weird unintelligible vocals Some people-completely unremarkable A+E - love concept of song, executed well. Also production at end👍 Colonge ceronne Houdini - another aimless journey song Caravan girl-- this is another perfectly fine but unremarkable song Monster love - interesting concept but doesn't click for me personally Middle of the road for me. Mostly pleasant but nothing stands out except A+E Worst: clowns 3/5
