Reviews (page 3 of 7)

FLA twigs is making some of the best RnB to come out in recent years and this debut landed with a bang with all the promise that she had shown with her earlier EPs. Not something I go to often but great to revisit after a while.

I think the artistry is there- deserving of a 4 star, but alas it doesn’t completely resonate with me.

I listened to this a bit when it came out. My youngest daughter really liked this. So much so that she named her cats Twigs. I do find it very creative and different. Not really my thing but I can appreciate it.

Very unique sound. High swooping tones, but not a lot of variety amongst the songs. I enjoyed it!

No. 222/1001 Preface 3/5 Lights On 4/5 Two Weeks 5/5 Hours 3/5 Pendulum 4/5 Video Girl 4/5 Numbers 4/5 Closer 4/5 Give Up 4/5 Kicks 4/5 Average: 3,9 Lush, cinematic pop-extravaganza. What a great surprise this album was.

Nice production value from an interesting artist.

Woooaaaahhh! The depth of the production on this album is insane. I listened a few times through and picked up new little things every time. twigs has a beautiful and haunting voice that suits the music well. A few moments sound dated but it closes really strong. I am looking for her future projects to be a little more focused and less repetitive but I’m so glad I was forced to sit and listen to this because I would have bounced off quickly if left to my own devices.

You know, I don't want to downplay the work of FKA twigs on her debut album. However, if I had to explain how I feel about LP1, I think my best way to do it is by comparing her to another artist. I know, that's probably not the best way to go about doing things, but I'm not really comparing her to another artist. I'm comparing how I feel about her to how I feel about another artist. The way LP1 makes me feel is similar to how I feel about a Bjork album. Not a specific one, just Bjork albums in general. Is this the kind of thing I'd listen to on my own time? No. It's not my daily music. However, I hear a lot of talent on this album and highly respect it. This is pretty good. The production is immaculate. It's very well put together. The pacing is also nice. I like the connected themes throughout the album. It makes LP1 a concept album of sorts in regards to its provocative theme. The singing is nice, the instrumental sounds are pleasant to listen to, and the album doesn't go on for too long. It feels distinctly modern without a lot of the problems that make people dislike "modern pop music." Overall, this is a pretty good album, even if I probably won't go back to it much. Low 4/5.

I don’t mind this album but I don’t know why it’s on the list

Such a beautiful voice! Album cover not so beautiful.

It is easy to forget, seeing how ubiquitous the sound is now, the hype and the buzz the girl formerly known as Twigs generated in the early 2010s with her transition from dance to electronic music. Her twisted, formless songs, aided by productions from Arca, Clams Casino, Blood Orange, et al., filled the then-present void of unconventional female pop singers breaking the mold and recontextualzing it in their own image. Ten years on, whether it was bested or not, LP1 remains the best start point of Twigs' discography. Favorites: Lights On, Two Weeks, Hours, Video Girl, Numbers, Kicks.

I’ve never listened to FKA twigs and I’m sad that it took me a decade from this album release to hear it! And that Spotify has never recommended it based on being similar to music I already listen to. She’s heading into the rotation!

Really happy this is on here though I don’t like it quite as much as the follow up, Magdalene.

Really like the use of stereo sound in Pendulum. This is good music to vibe to.

Ligts on on upea kohottava biisi - tulee keikkafiilikset!

An odd album. Soft pop with ethereal sounds and choir-like vocals. I liked it.

Well this was one from out of nowhere. I had only known the name FKA Twigs from an unsubstantiated map on Facebook showing best-selling artists from each UK county, and not having a clue who Miss Twigs was despite her being the representative of the county I reside in. The album is husky, sultry and sexually charged, a bit of M.I.A., a bit of Lourde but with quite a bit of FKA Twigs. Good stuff!

This album surprised me, I didnt expect that sounds

I'd say it's fine. The production is certainly the highlight and sounds really fantastic listening with quality earphones. I think what the album lacks is any sort of cohesive songwriting (a lot of repetition, probably to leave room for the production to shine) and really just weak hooks (the songs just ain't that catchy). 7/10

This was a nice counterpart to the Destiny's Child album I had yesterday. Doing similar things in mixing pop with a UK hip-hop edge, but it's also darker and more experimental.

Dig it, very good.

3.5 stars. More of an avant-garde electronica take on R&B which makes it an interesting listen. Lyrical themes centered on intimacy. Standout is the catchy "Two Weeks".

21st century albums have a great reputation on this list, especially from the 2010s.

"LP1" is the debut album by English singer-songwriter FKA Twigs. Avant-garde pop, alternative R&B and electronic. All of those work. There were a lot producers used including Arca, Emile Haynie, Sampras, Devonte Hayes, Clams Casino, Cy An, Paul Epworth and FKA Twigs herself. The lyrics deal with sex, sexual relations and intimacy. The album had wide-spread critical acclaim and was nominated for 2014 Mercury Prize. Commercially, it hit #16 in the UK and #30 in the US. "Preface" opens the album with an echoing voice. There's an electronic drumbeat and various synth noises. This music is very robotic and futuristic sounding. The first single "Two Weeks" was produced by FKA Twigs and Emile Haynes. There's chanting and a stark electronic background. FKA is singing delicately and the vocals are layered. The synth melody and vocals build. Very mysterious sounding. She's moving away from a sexless relationship. The second single "Pendulum" continues the layered vocals. Knocking echoing percussion and synth keys. Emoitional and melancholy vocals as she is lonely trying to be a girlfriend. The third and final single "Video Girl" slows things down. There's an interesting electronic beat. FKA is trying to separate herself from the girl in the video (FKA Twigs was actually in a number of music videos). My favorite single might be "Give Up." There's the echoing synths and electronic drums but the melody is just great and the song builds. She's not going to let her lover give up on her. The music on this album is spacey, stark, druggy and futuristic. The songs use synths, an electronic drumbeat and FKA Twigs' vocals. I have to admit; the first time though this music sounded like something you'd hear in a very trending louge or restaurant. Upon repeated albums, the songs became hypnotic and I started noticing all the details and really appreciated the production and instrumentation. This is an easy album to listen to and worth the effort. I find her next full-length album, "Magdalene" even better.

Surprise album for me ! I didn't know anything about this group. Most of songs are interesting and fascinating, Added to my Lounge folder To re-listening again 4/5

I liked this! Pretty different than anything I've heard before.

I actually liked it a surprising amount. I thought it was going to be rap, but it ended up being quite nice.

The same people who hate the harsh, processed synth sound would've loved it if it were done by some underground new wave band no one's heard of.

hard to get into but so so so good once you do.

A 2010s album that didn’t immediately get removed from the list! Likely because FKA Twig’s debut is fresh and genre-bending. It’s described as avant pop, alternative R&B, and electronic, but it also gives off lots of trip-hop vibes. I enjoyed “LP1” more and more as it progressed, and then went back for several more listens over the next week. A much buzzed about artist that lives up to the hype, glad to have been finally pushed to check her work out. A very strong ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, and a few more listens might even push it into ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ territory.

Great find, reminds me a little of the song Roads on Portishead's Dummy. A modernized 90s trip hop vibe, I dig it.

Kende haar niet maar dit album bevalt mij wel.

Immaculate vibes. Didn't feel like any of the melodies transcended, but good listen all the same.

First time I’ve even heard of this artist. Interesting listen.

A fine art pop release that is a tad glitchy for my ears.

great artist, good album 3.7

First listen Saved 6/10: Lights On Hours Pendulum Video Girl Numbers Kicks

I like it, would I reach for it though? I will ponder that further.

I’ve listened to - and very much enjoyed - her album “Magdalene,” but I hadn’t heard this one before. While still very good, it seemed a little more meandering than Magdalene, and I didn’t enjoy it quite as much. Ethereal and haunting, if a little lacking in substance.

Very good

forwarding thinking bed room pop with synthetic glitches, chords, and artificial sound that makes for a soundscape of computer-y love songs that have a very real lyricism that contrasts the sound.

Very ambitious young woman with loads of talent. Hope she has staying power—she seems to have a lot of support. I’m too far past my ability to keep up with the dizzying array of niche artists that populate the music scene now, but I liked her stamina and grit. Glad I listened—I wish her success in her career and personal relationships.

It's a good album, but outside of the 4-5 standout tracks every song sounds the same.

Such an interesting artist! I'm glad this project introduced me to her work. Beautiful, unusual, and creative songs on this album. Superb performances, too. Love it. Will need to find more of her music.

My expectations for this were very tempered, honestly because though I've heard of FKA twigs, I had no idea what their music sanded like. But I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this quite a bit from the get go. Once I got a sense of pretty quickly on the first track, I just sat back and enjoyed it. Obviously a talented artist. Not really for me by any means but this was great.

Surprisingly good!

The layers and depth of sound is enthralling. This is music that could drag you down in a good way. Not really my thing, but I can appreciate the attention to detail that went into the creation. Amazing artist.

Favorites were "Lights On" and "Kicks"

Really cool, inventive and weird pop record. I think she topped it with Magdalena though!

Futuristic neo-soul, something to listen to while you watch the city lights through the rain on the window of your sleeping pod.

I liked this. Took 2-3 tracks to find my ear and then as it ended I just played it again. 4

Really enjoying the production on this album. Her voice is perfect for the weird beats, clicks and sounds that create an unsettling beautiful atmosphere.

Dicht, fett, pop Schlafzimmerproduktionmodern

Creative combinations of styles. Really enjoyable

Very good

FKA twigs fan boy here: this album is a sign of things to come. Not a breakthrough album by any stretch, but a seed sewn that will later yield exotic fruit. If you liked this a little, dig far deeper. There is treasure in them there hills!

Beautiful. Gorgeous. Almost perfect.

Siisti album

Quelle musique étonnante et difficilement définissable. Entre trip hop, electro, rnb. Une voix qui susurre sur des orchestrations electro très riches. Assez emballant. "Lights On", "Two Weeks", "Video Girl", "Give up", j'y reviendrais de bon coeur et je vais sans doute me pencher sur le reste de sa discographie.

Beautiful. I can see this being a 5 star album for me in a year.

kinda cool album, i liked her voice, couldn't understand the lyrics though.

Banger. Melange rb, triphop, electro 8.5/10

Very different than anything else i listen to, but also refreshing and cool.

Really unique. Trippy bass-y music with soft female vocals 4

Good album, favourite tracks, Two Weeks and Pendulum

Så bra

That’s baby making music

I could see this being notable in 2014, although I don’t remember noting it.

This must be what it's like to take ecstasy on prom night.

New to me.

Scarily brilliant. Nearly 10 years old and still sounds like it's from the future

Very much enjoyed this at the time. Lovely to hear it again. A great album blending multiple genres and taking influence from Beyonce to Kate Bush to Bjork to Aphex Twin. 4/5

I like this a lot. It’s just something about the surreal beats and her unnatural sounding voice that has me really immersed.

I really enjoyed this! Never heard of it/them before.

It’s an albums’s album - not much standout songs per se, at least off the cuff - but they are majestically parts of a larger whole. Sparse but surgically precise production - and constantly to the point.

This is the first time I've ever actually listened to the whole album all the way through. I like it, just not in the quantity presented in a full album. Raw, powerfully sexual, quite overwhelming. Good stuff, just too much to handle.

Wow, very cool album!

Definitely too out there for my usual tastes but this album grew on me throughout its runtime. 7/10

I like out-there ethereal pop music, so this is basically straight up my alley. I probably would've stuck Purity Ring - Shrines in here instead, but this is still solid. Needs more listens.

I was aware of this when it came out but missed diving deep. Glad I did now.

Avant-pop, alternative R&B, electronic. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

Decent 7/10

Godt og veldig blandet, men dette kan jeg generelt digge!

My first listen was as background music and my second listen was with headphones. There was a major difference. The avant garde stylings with quality production have a lot of nuances that are best enjoyed with headphones. The sounds bounce from side to side and change depths frequently. This was quite enjoyable. The percussion is simple but quite good for no reason other than how far it is off the beaten track. Her voice eventually starts to drive me nuts which gave me pause but I stuck with the 4.

It’s interesting to compare this to Lorde, since they are both young, independent artists known for their “unconventional” sound. While Lorde’s singing style reflects what I would call a pop-radio style, FKA Twigs, as one of the critics said, is trying to “take a sledgehammer” to the modern R&B sound, and apparently this debut LP was more accessible than her first singles. I like the atmospheric/industrial/avant-garde textures, often free of a conventional beat, that she sings over top of. I especially like the choral bits, but there weren’t enough of them. I can hear a bit of a Kate Bush influence.

4-5 range. The R&B percussion, dark synth elements, and lofty airy vocals are a hell of a combo. Will be revisiting.

This is a vibe. This is what music is supposed to sound like in our flying cars or on the holodeck.

canzoni abbastanza simili ma molto originali

Mjög falleg tónlist, fallegur flutningur, góð plata.

Love it!

Cinematic, a little bit otherworldly - exactly my jam. Fave track - "Two Weeks" - a great tune, with a great video to boot!

I liked it. Funky and a little upbeat.

Pretty impressive debut album. Sort of Portishead meets Kate Bush meets Enya. Very interesting. 4 stars.

FKA twigs is nicely fractal. I heard bits and pieces of LP1 first, but never the whole project. MAGDALENE was great listening a couple years ago. Her debut sounds unfinished-in-a-good-way in a way that MAGDALENE does not. It seems pretty easy to gauge one's taste for the sound: Just listen to any track. But the collection of songs doesn't feel redundant against a single or other album.

ну нормик, только занудненькоо крутая обложка

First time listening to her music and I can say it’s great. A fan going forward. Nice mix of electronica and trip-pop in this debut album.

very good

Great album that I didn't "get" initially when it came out. It's calm but confronting.

Avant-pop, alternative R&B, electronic. Me ha gustado. Un 4.

Slaps, it doesn't feel like an album that is enhanced much by listening as an album but it's good

liked this a lot. shades of bjork - quite ethereal - but with an electro punch. 'Closer' and 'Two Weeks' my standout tracks.

Really enjoyed this, reminded me a lot of Bjork

I was thinking she reminded me of Grimes and who is the next artist that plays after the album finishes, GRIMES!

Two weeks is a jam. Breathy and weird and vibe-y. Sort of pleasantly fades into the background

HL: Hours, Two Weeks, Give Up The simplicity & sincerity of Twig’s voice are much appreciated amidst the sea of synths. How does it come across as both minimal and borderline overwhelming. Sure have it both ways August 18, 2022 (late nite)

Experimental, druggy and deeply sexy. FKA Twigs is one of the most interesting artists around right now. I’d categorize her music very loosely as R&B but the cool thing about her is how little she seems to think about genre. She’s draws equal influence from avant-grade electronic music as she does more conventional “bedroom music.” And her voice is stunning! She can go so high and tap into this big sense of drama. I love it. (She’s got some awesome music videos too.) Highlights: “Two Weeks,” “Video Girl,” “Numbers”

There are flashes of brilliance on display here, but the adjective that most sums this album up is "overproduced." She's got a great voice, as is clearly going for an ethereal, trip-hoppy sound, and sometimes it works. "Two Weeks" is sultry fire, and "Video Girl" grabbed and maintained my attention; they were definitely my favorite songs on the album. "Lights On," "Hours," "Pendulum," and "Give Up" all have their moments, but there were times (especially during "Pendulum") when I wished she and her producers would just get out of their own way and let it rip. This is a debut album, so I'm hoping that she's since learned to ditch some of the gimmicky aspects of it and trust her voice to carry more of the weight. Giving this three and a half stars for what's here, and another half star for the undeniable potential.

FKA twigs sounds like Portishead & Bjork had a baby. I dig her weirdo vocals.

Interesting soundscaping on track one. Love the metallic soundsm

This album is crazy awesome. Its near indescribable. Parts bjork, parks beyonce. She uses her voice in crazy ways that while layering is nothing new, are done so fresh and uniquely here. My fiance has shown me a lot of FKA and so I have started following her but yet to catch up on her disco. I recognized more than a few of the tracks on this while listening. Part of what makes this album so good is that it feels like an album though each track is a very unique and stand-alone vibe also. I really loved the production on Numbers

Production pop ultra léchée et riche qui sort du lot. Une 2e écoute s'impose.

Weeeeiirrrd. Okay so a sort of tight vocal electronic sound. This is like Ellie Goulding but wayyy more art. The electronics are way more angular, grooves more alien. The vocal textures are at times so lush but always so crystal. This was really great music to read the new chainsaw man to.

При том, что жанр абсолютно не мой, звучит очень классно. Даже ооооочень отдаленно напомнило голос Кейт Буш, хотя это и было в последней композиции.

I enjoyed this. It had some cool ethereal sounds that were fun to listen to, though the lyrics were a little repetitive.

Outra opção de tripo hop que inclui hit “sexy”.

Precisely constructed songs of joy and ice.

LP1 is very soulful and hymn like in quality, yet has a sensuality that draws you in. FKA Twigs' futuristic take on R&B, melds into electronica quite nicely, and is uniquely it's own thing. Best: Two Weeks Worst: Numbers 3.5 Stars (so very close to 4 stars)

some really good moments! I’ll give it another listen soon

Brilliant minimalist electronica, great voice, absorbing, an absolute mood that I am here for.

Ethereal and atmospheric. I enjoyed this album but it is not something I would choose to listen to. Having said that, I’m glad I gave it a listen and hope to return to it as there were a lot of elements that I really liked

Pretty interesting. It made me think I need better headphones. I really enjoyed a few of the songs. There was a lot that was too abstract for me.

If constipation makes your day feel offbeat, try listening to this record. The groove will make you sway and loosen that poo right up. Before you know it you'll have an empty bowel and full bowl of glorious, Instagramable poo. Poo.

I like this stuff, I think it's interesting. Doesn't feel masterful yet, I think her best work it yet to come.

It's hot, but not as good as I was expecting, and I listened to it in a bath so pretty optimal conditions...

One of the things I find commonly about most of the more recent albums on this list is that they are often here more because they were/are popular than because they are meaningful artistic expressions. Not so with this album. FKA twigs feels like she's really using the technological capabilities of the moment to produce a truly innovative album. Beautiful and haunting, sexy, deliberate, deep. This album has so much going for it, and I think that it will stand the test of time 4/5

sick album, loved the vibes

I can enjoy FKA twigs one song at a time, but an album full becomes too much.

This was a bit of a breath of fresh air after the weeks of 60s, 70s and 80s music, and I really enjoyed it. She's got a really unique style that's complimented by the background ambience and beats very well. Glad to have gotten this and need to check out some of her recent work Saved: Two Weeks, Pendulum

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Lights On, Two Weeks, Numbers, Give Up, Kicks Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Music for hot girls with bangs, septum piercings, and a bunch of small tattoos on their arms. Might need to look into liking this music more myself so we have more things to talk about lolz. Never wanted to skip a single song, she uses audio panning and, well, sound to create such an engrossing musical landscape. Wish I liked it more than I already did. 4.

I love this album so much, what a debut

I was excited to see some modern day music. It was a good album and definitely something I would listen to again. I also liked music that Spotify played after this. I could do Aerosha to it.

she is immaculate angel sent from heaven above

Great R&B! Never heard of her until today but I added some songs to my playlist

Really cool and interesting songs. Some bjork feels. And some catchy jams thrown in.

I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised with this album.

Quite nice synth driven pop. Will have to give it a few more listens!

Avant garde style stuff always seems to be tougher for me to connect with. I find pieces and sections that I like quite a bit and then there's this whole other song that's running parallel to that that pushes me away. At best I can put my head down and vibe with the beat and at worst it strikes me as performatively edgy. Some songs I would come back to to get familiar with but more as a way to expand my tastes and not as something I'm itching to hear.

Uhh, yeah, Y’know.

FKA twigs always felt like an artist I *should* love but didn't. Then she dropped CAPRISONGS, and I was obsessed. I don't know if I've revisited LP1 since that moment, and I certainly liked it more today than I did before, but it still didn't connect. There's something just a touch warmer about CAPRISONGS and EUSEXA that really opens her style up.

I prefer her next album, which has more standout moments. Good nighttime vibes music though, enjoyed it

not for me...

Neat experimentation, just kinda washed over me tho.

i like this

Interesting assortment of sounds, but not really my cup of tea.

I appreciate this more than I actually like it; I felt the same way about Eusexua which came out last year. It’s interesting but I find it a bit too icy and clinical to truly enjoy it but she has my respect as an artist.

Kind of an interesting album. I liked the production and her voice. But I don't really care for the complete package. Didn't hate it though.

Interesting album. I thought it was okay.

It was interesting, but not quite my thing

Magdalene would be better

Not terrible, and I understand the appeal, just not quite for me for the same reasons that Bjork isn’t quite my style.

I could see how this album could be hit or miss. Alternative and modern. It sounds like 2015 to me. I emjoyed some of the tracks on here, and I slowly got more sucked in the more I listened. I really liked 2 Weeks. I would honestly compare this to the Bjork album I listened to earlier, but 2015 version. 3 stars feels right.

I used to like this album when it came out but now it just sounds pretty boring.

Was a bit too repetitive but a decent album

The artist has a great voice, and the beats melded well with it. It was nothing mind blowing in my book, but it was a pleasant listen.

Interesting.

this is fine. i really liked eusexua though

This was a spicy pop record

muy buena producción, sadly no es my jam, igual le doy 2.5 que subo a 3 porque si siento que es un disco cool

As much as I enjoyed the production, I felt that it overpowered the song writing a lot

Honestly I understand the hate. This is weird and abrasive and somewhat unconventional. This isn't what the average listener wants when looking for something new. But I kinda liked it. I'll even recommend it to the right ears.

I get why people like this. Just wasn't for me

Interessant maar niet mijn smaak.

I really liked this album, and given the title and album cover I was not expecting to. Hip hop inspired (beats feel like 2010s Tyler the creator to me) electro pop? Again, that sounds bad but she found the right mix of catchy pop melody with unexpected twists/keys to keep you guessing. Lyrics were sparse and not easy to understand, but I felt like she effectively communicated the emotion without having to know the lyrics. 3.4

This rocked as FKA Twigs often does. Not sure I’m as in love with it as that one from 2019 that I was obsessed with when it came out, but there were some serious hits. 3.5

The album is fine, but there are better examples of the genre, both prior and post.

No. 201 I have heard of her but this is first time hearing her music. It’s a different sound. It’s nice but not sure I’d listen to it again

"Surreal" might be the perfect word to describe this. I generally like that kind of thing, but I don't know, a lot of this comes across as dissonant and discordant in a way that doesn't appeal to me. I think some of the atmospheres that are cultivated here are pretty interesting but besides that, I can't get into this more.

Interesting album. Might grow on me over time. She has a good voice, music is not quite my thing.

really nice

I quite liked the ethereal voice which is as much an instrument as anything else even if the lyrics are not usually intelligible. The random sound generator is turned up perhaps a bit too much so after the whole album I'd had enough of the intrusions. The most popular track on Spotify is rated explicit but I would need a translator to know the words.

ikke lige for mig

Cool vibes I like it

Dreamy and fun

I've heard a couple of these songs before, wasn't a huge fan but as a whole I think I liked this one alright. Her upper range is nuts, just not my specific jam. Favorite track: Numbers

okay i was nottt expecting this

Light & dreamy

5 - interesting listen. Kinda groovy, some jangly songs and a couple good ones.

Twigs has such a unique electronic, R&B sound to her music. Her first LP is full of gorgeous vocals laid over funky techno sounds. I would have to be in a certain mood to listen to it regularly, but it was a fun little experimental album.

Good but not really my thing.

This is fine I guess. Made me wish I was listening to Tove Lo.

i don't really know a lot about fka twigs. but what i hear from this i like, but it feels underdeveloped at times- i'm sure that her later output improves on this more. but this has a nice sound to it

I like this album and think a lot of the songs are great but there is something that is still embryonic on this one to me and I'm not sure if it's because I read that one of the main collaborators on this album is one of the main collaborators on Eminem's Recovery. Confirmation bias ? No, because I think this album is quite good but doesn't quite hit the heights she will reach on the next one.

Unfortunately I don't seem to be the type of gay person that enjoys her music. That being said I know that she is talented, so I can't give this anything less than a 3 Fuck Shia LaBeouf

beep boop music

I thought I was going to love this but it kind of left me a little cold to be honest. I didn't dislike it it by any means, but I found it a little samey. A low three; I'd rather listen to this than the Grateful Dead any day.

Not bad But, Not Good Enough. 3/5

This might benefit from a few repeat listens but given the backlog of what I have going in the project right now...I actually really like a lot of FKA twigs, but just don't think this album hits nearly the heights of some later albums like Magdelene. I do like her vocal sensibilities and the production here is cool in parts, but some of it just doesn't quite land.

Not what I expected but I enjoyed it. I found it to be good focus music while I was getting stuff done around the house. 3.5/5

Super dreamy and fun. I never knew, but now I know!

This had some nice moments. I'm not familiar enough with this style of music to know what makes it good, and it is all kind of samey to me. Might grow with multiple listens.

Not for me sorry fka twigs :/

I can appreciate a lot of elements here, mainly the production. It has a great sound, with each piece of instrumentation feeling painstakingly selected with great success. To be honest, though, that's where my praise mostly ends. If I want contemporary electronic music with more compelling musicianship and lyricism, I’m listening to Charli XCX instead.

265/1001 FKA Twigs - LP1 Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❓ There's a certain coldness that I get from the album and struggled to engage with the album unfortunately. I will say the production and arrangements are great. Definitely one that's not for me.

Entertaining, though not something I'd revisit.

Beter dan verwacht maar zou niet opnieuw luisteren

I think this needs repeat listens and was surprised that under influences for Twigs, Prince is not listed anywhere. Might be a 3.5 for me, but dropping for now as it's a bit too sparse for my usual taste.

This def went harder in 2014 before the world bit her vibe? Overall a little mellow for me, would’ve liked more big dynamic crazy songs

This isn't terrible by any means. It's not great either, and the vocals remind me a bit too much of Kate Bush – I'm not a fan. But it sort of grew on me a bit and it certainly doesn't deserve the hammering it gets on here. I mean, I'd rather listen to this than another Green Day album. Or similar.

Album released in 2010s. check Female artist. check Non white artist. check British. check One star reviews from people who are big mad that it's not just 1001 albums of their favorite genre. check Now that that's done, this falls outside the realm of what I typically listen to and I can't say that I overly enjoyed it, but this is a solid debut album from an artist who is definitely bucking pop conventions for the mid 2010s.

3 stars I tried to give this a listen when it was new and never made it through all the way. It’s easy for it to just kind of blend into the background. I’m curious how many people who go crazy for trip hop shat on this album. For me this is much more listenable. I probably wouldn’t have listened to this if not for this project and I’ll probably listen to more of her stuff. So this is an example of it working. But my world wasn’t blown away or anything.

some good beats, interesting lo-fi. reminds me of andy stott. ultimately not my thing, but not a bad listen at all.

It was actually pretty cool. I can't say that I loved it, but it was a cool soundscape and a modern sound that I enjoyed. I wasn't blown away by any means but it was an ok listen.

Cool and interesting album Standout songs: Two Weeks Video Girl

Ethereal af

Avant Garde album. Pretty ahead of it's time though honestly. Like a 50/50 mix of Sophie and Grimes Give Up is great

Not really my thing, but the sound design was beautiful.

surprisingly good album. nice sound and a good groove throughout

Ugh I think is one that I want to like more than I do. I appreciate how it’s put together and how unique the sound is but in terms of just general enjoyment it hits middle of the road for me.

it's a pretty great album. it's not gonna make you interested in glitch pop if you're not into it. i find this worth it for "kicks" alone. a great album-ender

Cooler in theory than the actual listen. There's maybe some innovation here, but folks have done art R n B better, and her voice is paper thin, in this presentation. Weird low/high bars stated and implied in the one thats like "when I trust you we can do it with the lights on"

Whilst not a bad album, the tracks do get kind of messy at times and my focus just glitches out.

nice and easy, but i dont like it btw lol

It was something special upon release, but now is pretty standard.

Preface almost put me off but "Lights On" (my favourite) kept me going. It is an intriguing album, not something I would normally play and probably wouldn't play it again but who knows.

I am disappointed that our forest album by a woman in nearly two months of listening to the list is such a male gaze choice. Who wrote this book?!

Not bad for background music

That one was strange

Better than Coldplay

Avant-pop, alternative R&B, electronic.

Estamos en el siglo XXI y la grabación y producción es impecable, lástima que falten buenas melodías. Entre el sonido y los videos FKA resultan estimulantes pero no soportan una escucha seguida.

I only knew one song from this album previously but enjoyed the whole thing!

I liked this more than I thought I would. 2.8.

I’m not mad at this album, it’s the definition of a vibe. I wouldn’t have been caught dead listening to something like this in high school, but now I unapologetically embrace all music that strikes a chord. I dig her airy, whispery voice over the dreamy, ambient RnB music. It’s sort of like HoB era Weeknd, except dreamier. It can be too moody and some songs can get redundant.

ahhhh..... sta reci... gotivila sam je pre pa me smorila, ima harizmu gomeks kese

Background music. Nothing to much write home or here about. Nothing that stuck as a reason to listen to again

It's a nice production with cool sounds, but it sounds to me like a Flume album without the oomph.

Pretty generic and forgettable but not too bad.

She seems to be doing interesting things but I just don’t really vibe with this kind of ethereal falsetto singing style.

Jeg har liksom ikke helt klart å komme meg inn i moderne RNB. Fine vokalmelodier, men syns ikke minimalismen funker helt for meg.

I loved the music - it seemed really textured. I didn't care so much for the vocals unfortunately. I can remember having these opinions when the album was released.

- this going to sound harsh but I do think this record is not as ground-breaking as some of the writers want it to be. It is a bit repetitive and I'm kinda over the breathy vocalizations after a while .... There is some art though, so I'm gonna round up and look for some of the later work.

I enjoy FKA Twigs a lot over around 4 minutes. I struggle a lot over 40 minutes.

White girl music that sounds a little same, but I did not think it was that bad

Pas si mal !

Nothing here that you can really listen to more than once, but also not extraordinary enough to pass as a total work of art, although you can tell that the album is really trying to earn credentials like "innovative" or "experimental". More of a miss than a hit, but I prefer boring hipster bullshit to boring mainstream bullshit. Bonus points for working well as a palate cleanser in this 1001 course menu.

Different from what I would normally listen to but see the appeal.

++: Preface, Pendulum, Numbers +: Lights On, Two Weeks, Hours, Video Girl, Kicks +-: Closer, Give Up 7,0/10

Not for me, but not a bad album.

I’m sure it’s good bit just not really my thing

Need to listen to note fka twigs

6.5/10

Good electronic album

LP1 is a twist on the Björkian template (if that should even exist as a phrase), but given the run of albums from our Icelandic queen on this list, I feel like I've heard a lot of this before and that very little new ground was broken. That said, I think this kind of musical expression nearly always benefits from a new interpretation and a production update. I appreciate the infusion of a more R&B-by-way-of-Britain vibe, and I understand how that little dose of popular-music clarity goes a long way in this iteration on the template. The stretch from Lights On through Video Girl is the album's high point, and after that the rest of the record neither collapses nor asserts itself. My final critical take on LP1 is that more than other albums it's either an empty vessel for the listener to pour their taste into or a blank mirror to have it reflected back. It rewards prior affection and reinforces prior indifference or dislike in equal measure. Unfortunately for FKA Twigs, this is not selection criteria when I think of the best music.

Finally a woman! After listening to 15 dudes. Interesting electronic experience

Interesting production . Reminds me a little of Holly Herndon. Don’t think I could listen to it a lot but definitely trying to do something different

This record definitely feels like one of those "scare the hoes" records. I enjoyed how weird the instrumentals were, and how dream-like the vocals accompanied them. Favourite Track(s): Pendulum, Lights On, Two Weeks Least Favourite Track(s): Preface

It's nice to get something from the 2010s decade, and nice to get an unknown (to me) and largely interesting artist and album too. I'll admit that she would have gotten a 4- or 5-star rating from me if the whole album was as strong as it started; well, kind of started--for some reason the YouTube Music playlist combined "Preface" and "Video girl" into a single song and video. Her music and vocals are distinctive and an interesting blend of genres (kind of reminded me of Tricky's "Maxinquaye", but for the 21st century), but it seems like she really shines with the videos to her singles. "Video girl" is by far the most riveting, and disturbing, with an unsettling storyline of her as a ghost visiting a death row convict as he's getting a lethal injection, but the videos for "Two weeks" and "Pendulum" are also impressive productions with strong performance art aspects. It makes me wish she'd been able to make videos for every track (a la The The's "Infected"), although I'm not sure that the lyrics to any of the songs would quite live up to the visuals. An interesting album in some ways, but I must admit that I'm unlikely to revisit it.

interesting but I don't think I'll listen again.

At its best it reminded of the haunting detachment of London Grammar. There is certainly some similarity with Björk too, with its sparse beats and choral sounds. And as for her potty-mouth, she can really give it some: "My thighs are apart for when you're ready to breath in". Is there anything as sexy as spreading 'em and saying "get a whiff of that!"? Overall a difficult one to rate. I didn't find much of it melodically interesting, in fact little better than modern mass-produced rnb and pop. Lyrically it's vapid. And yet the construction of the whole record and the fearless approach for a debut is admirable. And it has some real flashes of brilliance. This album is anything but average, and yet I find myself at a 3.

I was struck by how much hate this album copped. I decided to give it a go regardless and sat through it. It was ok, it felt like coffee lounge music. I didn't hate it, but i didn't exactly love it either.

p940. 2014. 3 stars. Goldfrapp clone that takes the cousins on at their own game and wins. Points deducted for being difficult to find, and for lacking standout tunes. General rule which still holds true: if people aren't talking it about an album 5+ years after its release, it isn't essential listening.

Fun, but not quite for me

This album kept making me think it was going to get Moloko/Roisin Murphy weird, but it just never went that far. It was ok, but not something I'm going to rush to listen to again. 2.8

Enjoyable

Decent

Bjork cosplay is still kind of decent to listen to?

R&b hip hop

Experimental rap

This started really strong. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard this album before, and I thought I’d found a new forever album. The first few tracks were definitely worth saving to the playlist. As it went on though, I got tired of it. Actually, annoyed might be the word. I’ll give it another chance for sure, but I’m sad it didn’t keep up the strength of the beginning.

Spacey floaty analgesic sleepy vibes.

Interesting modern pop/r&b experimentalish. 3/5

Very cool album, not my usual listening style, but very enjoyable. Instrumentals are very unique.

This was quite cool, nothing astonishingly unique, but I did enjoy it. I might check out the rest of her stuff. I quite liked Lights On. 3/5 stars.

Certainly, a cool album with a neat vibe. Could I listen to this multiple times? Possibly? Possibly not? I didn't see much value in this for a relisten, but I wasn't upset at the first run through. Not super groundbreaking in any regards, but still a neat album that feels pretty experimental.

Not really my bag but easy enough listen and kept me interested

Pretty interesting, and one I might return to. It’s something like a 3.5 for me at this point but I can maybe see it change in the future.

I was only previously aware of Two Weeks from radio play about 10 years ago and it's still dirty in a good way. But it is pretty much the highlight from an otherwise unremarkable album. The vocal style is too similar from song to song. This should be a 2, but I am rating a 3 to encourage a revisit at a future date. 3/5

very twigs y!

Decent sounding album. Pretty unique R&B pop sounds.

eerie, electric, unique. I like modern music that takes advantage of modern production tools. this just wasn't my vibe though.

She’s undeniably talented, and she’s undeniably her own creative force. Which makes it hard to push this way down the rankings despite my personal indifference to it. It’s definitely not my music, but it’s also so incredibly similar track to track that if it’s not your thing it gets old quick. And her register never really changes, meaning that fatigue sets in. I’ll give it a middle grade because at the end of the day I can’t deny it’s well crafted but I don’t know that it’s a must listen.

Pretty cool pop music! Definitely more interesting than a lot of contemporary pop.

thought I’d like it more :/ but respect

Inoffensive

Fun. Pop/electronic. 6/10

Not really my thing, but I appreciate that's out there! Great production and voice, not something I'd seek out. 2.5 if it was possible. Round up because I'm not a racist like Gregg.

Ei ehkä aivan mua varten, mutta mitä enemmän tätä kuuntelee niin sitä enemmän tää tavallaan kiinnostaa. Tämmöstä indiepoppista mutta ihan hyvällä maulla. Flow-festivaalin kiistatonta osastoa. 3/5

Pretty good but not the sort of album I would usually reach for

Some FKA Twigs classics on here. Reminds me of early high school. Some really interesting stuff but think it can blend into itself a bit. 3.6

Įdomu, balsas labai gražus, keisti tekstai.

Omg it’s FKA twigs from mention in the Laura Dern song at the 2020 indie spirit awards fame!!!

Unsure how to rate this. It's often haunting and ethereal. It's certainly well-produced and atmospheric. But I'm not sure how much I loved the compositions. They had some interesting ideas, but they seemed to evaporate the moment the song was done. I also didn't love her singing. Don't get me wrong, she's a good singer with quite a range, and her harmonies were often striking, but she didn't seem to have enough of a unique personality. I was too often reminded of Beth Gibbons, Kate Bush, and Bjork, and not once did I feel like I was hearing someone unique, even though her soundscapes certainly were. I guess I'll go down the middle. I'm glad I heard it, though I wonder if her later albums aren't more developed.

Meh 2.5/5

Трудно судить, не въехал почти. Авант-поп, трип-хоп и прочее прочее.
