Reviews (page 2 of 7)

I loved 🥰 this whole album ! I was intrigued by FKA twigs esp her skillet but was too scared to 🎧 but she's a vibe ! ITS A VIBE ALL THE TIME- Chrisean Rock 🪨

First listened on 11th February 2023. Favourite songs are Video Girl and Two Weeks.

How did I miss this the first time? The obvious reference point here is Portishead - twigs has the purest vocal tone since Beth Gibbons. But where Gibbons has always seemed asexual on some level, twigs is unabashed - "When I trust you, we can do it with the lights on" is equal parts come-on, defensive posture, and mission statement. She wields the production equally deftly, choosing to conceal and reveal strategically (erotics again). And although reviewers have pointed out the genderfluidity, for my money the real binary being crossed is dominant/submissive - although how submissive can you really be if you're telling your partner exactly what you want them to do to you? I don't know yet but I'm about to listen again to try and figure it out.

Beautiful voice, love the minimalistic style. Probably my favourite album of hers

she is such an out of this world genius

Another new to me album and artist. Coincidentally she also released an album today. I wonder what the odds are of that happening. Not really my style of music but it's enjoyable if you take some time to listen.

Love to see artists pushing the bounds of pop.

This is a very interesting album from a production standpoint. To me, FKA Twigs is similar to Bjork in sound and approach. It's not something I will put in my rotation but it is good!

Strange electronic zen tracks and an artsified contemporary R&B style, pretty soothing and entrancing to listen Overall a fresh experience and every track is cool

This was so incredibly good. I had never heard of FKA twigs before today, and I loved this so much I ended up listening to it all the way through 3 times. Every track sounded distinct from the others but with a unifying groove or sound that made them seems like parts of a cohesive whole. The music was really cool and interesting sounding and I loved her voice and the instrumentation and the harmonies and the beats, and really just everything. I became an instant and huge fan today. Five stars.

Beautiful Trax. Had never heard of twigs, this was a good find.

Gorgeous production, silky smooth vocals. Idk why I’d never listened to this before.

ummm she is forever the moment. i used to listen to this album all the time. it's why i'm such a freak now probably

Impeccably produced. I don't think there's a single flaw in any sound. Astonishing. These songs are odd and futuristic yet still catchy and enthralling

Vibey, sexy, and weird (complimentary). I love her strangeness.

Had genuinely forgotten how stacked with great songs this album is. Whilst I maybe think Magdalene is the better record, this is such a strong debut that really sounded so ahead of the curve at the time.

Blew me away, great music, two weeks, pendulum and kicks all stand outs but whole album is amazing

Yesss! Great album!

Wow 11 years. Definitely for headphones or good speakers cos of all the great we details she packs into the production. I agree with the reviewer saying Magdalene is a better album but this is still great. Also surprised at its low score. Too pop for the 'real music' brigade, a little too off kilter for the pop kids? They're all missing out regardless.

If you do a Punnett Square for pop stars and the variables are "horny/not horny" and "fucks/doesn't fuck", FKA twigs is undeniably in the "horny/fucks" square.

If you zoom out too far, the description of this album gets a little funny: an incredibly talented pop music video dancer channels Kate Bush at her breathiest, Dev Hynes at his most sophisticated, and Sade at her horniest to create a fusion of indie, R&B, and electronic music that just may have set the template for a lot of popular music today. But that weirdly feels like I'm over and underselling it at the same time. First, the underselling: twigs is a pretty great songwriter, something that doesn't get acknowledged very often. The album expands upon the pleasures of the first EP into jams about wanting to steal someone's man ("Two Weeks"), making out ("Hours"), and masturbation ("Kicks"), while ruminating on being the object of that same desire ("Video Girl", "Pendulum"). The production remains in line with mid-10s trends while still sounding like almost nothing else of the time: the post-James Blake bass of "Two Weeks", the upright bass of "Lights On", the drums that feel like they're referencing Björk and trap music on "Numbers". I will admit at the end here I'm a bit biased: LP1 was my #1 album of 2014 then and I don't think there's any other album on this list that matches up with my personal rankings from any given time. But to this day, this album remains a hallmark of the possibilities of what post-genre pop artists can do, no matter what tradition you may perceive they're tied to most.

I thought this was fantastic and I had never heard it.

Always a good day to listen to LP1.

Really nice 1001 discovery - I've heard of FKA twigs but never listened before now. It's like Prince, Bjork, and trip hop all mixed together. Looking forward to listening to more of her stuff.

I love how everything comes together in these songs, the production is really amazing and her singing is phenomenal.

Cool picture! Rap? Oh wait a minute! I know this artist. I'm so glad to see something like this on this list. 5 stars hands down. The bass in the second track is deep! Oh I had it on my Jubilee eq setting. Still a cool track! the album has kind of a Bjork feel to it. Not the vocals obv cause bjorks voice is unique af, but the electronic part of it.

I'm a relative newcomer to FKA twigs and I'm completely captivated. The music is so innovative, taking some of the most exciting elements of alternative electronic music and layering beautiful vocals, sometimes hauntingly so, over the top. It's an enrapturing experience and she's only gone from strength to strength since this first album. To anyone who doesn't get this - you're probably behind the times

by the time the second song came on I already knew this album was a 5

A swirling, inspirational anthem of liberation and ode to self-actualization. FKA Twigs' stunning debut is dripping with intention and aesthetic. She executes life in a way of which most artists could only dream. One of the most formative albums of my young adulthood.

This was a fun one. Kinda mesmerizing in a way. I felt like I entered a portal into her world. The entire album was very fluid, but each track was very distinct in its own way.

What an original album from the 2010s. Not particularly surprising that it wasn’t more popular, as a consequence of its highly experimental nature, yet it fully deserved to be. Rather relaxing to listen to on replays. 10/10

Well, that was bloody excellent. Still sounds fresh even though it's now 10 years old. There's some cool threads of trip hop here and there, all wrapped up in luxurious electronic threads. Very cool.

Such an underrated art-pop album. I feel like FKA Twigs has been flying under the radar for a while, so it is great to see this album on this list.

fuck man

When FKA twigs hit the charts in 2014 with her trip-hop inspired, electronic R&B, she became a phenomenon with capital F. 10 years later, and everything still holds up extremely well. Includes my second favorite song titled 'Two Weeks'.

Pop has a tendency to age rather quickly. It's a genre closely tied with the present fashion. LP1 is now 10 years old (a lifetime in pop years) and it still holds up brilliantly. The production is stellar, FKA Twigs' vocals are hauntingly beautiful - but the most impressive thing is that if this was released tomorrow, it would still feel new and fresh.

I truly believe that the apex of modern-day alternative rnb comes in the form of FKA Twigs' music. While she would go on to polish and round out her sound on future records, especially on her impeccable 2019 release 'MAGDALENE', this "rudimentary" release in her discography remains a stunning demonstration of pop, electronic, and rnb fusions 'till this day. With hints of some of The Weeknd's 'Trilogy' EPs and a mildly unsettling, yet ultimately troubled-romantic aesthetic not unlike some of Portishead's works, twigs manages to curate this hauntingly gorgeous piece that's parts experimental, yet undoubtedly still mass-appealing. You'll get stuttering electronic instrumentation and drums, gentle and breathy vocals, falsetto harmonies, ear-candy melodies, and intimate writing here - characteristics that may seem oversaturated now but this album proves that Twigs was (way) ahead of the curve when it came to refining some of these sounds. I'd say this record is best absorbed as a whole, with 40 minutes of consistently lulling music, but individual tracks like 'Two Weeks', 'Video Girl', and the closer 'Kicks' stand their ground as defiant ballad-bops within the genre. Honestly revisiting this thing, I forgot just how great of a debut album it is. I'd also argue that this record is one of the most influential in the genre - there really was no one doing it quite like FKA twigs nearing the mid-2010s. Also, this album cover rules.

If this is a 5 Magdeline is a 6

"LP1" by FKA twigs is a seminal work that marked a significant point in contemporary music upon its release in 2014. This debut studio album by the British singer-songwriter and producer, Tahliah Debrett Barnett, known professionally as FKA twigs, merges ethereal soundscapes with raw emotional expression. The album's unique blend of avant-garde production, intricate lyricism, and thematic depth showcases twigs' multifaceted talent and cements her position as a transformative figure in modern music. ### Lyrics The lyrical content of "LP1" is a vivid exploration of vulnerability, sensuality, and introspection. FKA twigs employs a poetic approach, often intertwining themes of love, desire, and pain. The lyrics are marked by their abstract yet deeply personal nature, allowing listeners to engage with the music on an emotional and intellectual level. In "Two Weeks," she sings, "I can fuck you better than her," a bold declaration of confidence intertwined with sensual vulnerability. This line, like many others on the album, balances between raw honesty and a poetic delivery that leaves a lasting impression. The song "Pendulum" encapsulates feelings of longing and instability, with lines like, "So lonely trying to be yours, when you're looking for so much more." Here, twigs addresses the complexities of relationships, highlighting her ability to convey profound emotions through minimalistic yet impactful lyrics. ### Music Musically, "LP1" is an eclectic mix of genres, blending elements of R&B, electronic, pop, and trip-hop. The production is characterized by its experimental approach, utilizing unconventional sounds and structures to create a soundscape that is both immersive and challenging. The album opens with "Preface," which sets the tone with its haunting vocal samples and sparse instrumentation. This track, along with others like "Lights On" and "Video Girl," showcases twigs' ability to create an atmospheric experience that draws the listener into her world. The use of space and silence is a notable feature throughout the album. In "Closer," for example, the minimalistic production allows twigs' ethereal vocals to take center stage, creating a sense of intimacy and immediacy. The beats are often syncopated and layered, providing a complex rhythmic foundation that enhances the overall texture of the music. ### Production The production on "LP1" is nothing short of groundbreaking. Produced by a team including Arca, Emile Haynie, Dev Hynes, Paul Epworth, and Clams Casino, the album's sound is meticulously crafted. The production techniques employed are innovative, with a heavy reliance on digital manipulation and unconventional recording methods. One of the standout tracks in terms of production is "Hours," where twigs' voice is layered and processed to create a multi-dimensional effect. The song "Numbers" features glitchy beats and distorted vocals, exemplifying the album's experimental nature. Each track is meticulously constructed, with attention to detail evident in the way sounds are layered and juxtaposed. ### Themes "LP1" delves into themes of identity, intimacy, and emotional complexity. Throughout the album, FKA twigs explores the interplay between vulnerability and strength, often reflecting on personal experiences and emotions. The recurring themes of love and desire are examined from various angles, presenting a nuanced perspective on relationships. The theme of self-discovery is prominent in songs like "Pendulum" and "Give Up," where twigs grapples with her sense of self in the context of love and longing. The album also touches on themes of empowerment and autonomy, particularly in tracks like "Two Weeks," where she asserts her confidence and control. ### Influence "LP1" has had a profound impact on contemporary music, influencing a wide range of artists across genres. The album's innovative production and genre-blending approach have inspired musicians to push the boundaries of conventional music-making. Artists such as Solange, Kelela, and Björk have acknowledged the influence of FKA twigs' work on their own music. The album's success also paved the way for greater acceptance of experimental and avant-garde music in the mainstream. "LP1" challenged listeners and critics alike to reconsider the boundaries of pop and R&B, contributing to a broader appreciation for innovative and unconventional sounds. ### Pros and Cons #### Pros: 1. **Innovative Production**: The production on "LP1" is pioneering, blending electronic and acoustic elements in a way that sounds fresh and forward-thinking. 2. **Emotional Depth**: FKA twigs' lyrics are deeply personal and poetic, providing a rich emotional landscape for listeners to explore. 3. **Vocal Performance**: Her vocal delivery is unique and versatile, ranging from delicate whispers to powerful crescendos, adding to the album's dynamic range. 4. **Thematic Cohesion**: The album maintains a cohesive narrative, exploring themes of love, identity, and empowerment with depth and nuance. 5. **Cultural Impact**: "LP1" has had a significant influence on contemporary music, inspiring artists and expanding the boundaries of genre. #### Cons: 1. **Accessibility**: The experimental nature of the album might be challenging for some listeners who prefer more conventional music structures. 2. **Pacing**: Some tracks can feel slower and less engaging, potentially affecting the overall flow of the album. 3. **Abstract Lyrics**: The abstract and poetic nature of the lyrics might be difficult for some listeners to connect with on a personal level. 4. **Production Overload**: In some instances, the dense production can overshadow the vocals, making it hard to focus on the lyrical content. ### Conclusion "LP1" by FKA twigs is a landmark album that combines innovative production, intricate lyricism, and profound thematic exploration. Its impact on contemporary music is undeniable, influencing a range of artists and pushing the boundaries of genre and production techniques. While its experimental nature may not appeal to all listeners, those who engage with the album will find a deeply rewarding and immersive experience. "LP1" stands as a testament to FKA twigs' artistic vision and her ability to transform personal vulnerability into a universal and transformative work of art.

This is a way easier listen than it has any right to be. It's really good. It's got a really good vibe and flow. I'd never heard anything by this artist before, so it was all new to me. Lights On was the first track that stuck out to me. Really good. It's the same standard the entire way through. But more than anything, it's a really really easy listen

Wow this album is really my style.. I have never listened to FKA Twigs before but I had no idea she made such good music! I can see why this album is on the list it sounds so fresh for something released in 2014.

This was unexpectedly good.

I've been a huge fan of Twigs for some years now, and her art never gets old. LP1 is a strong output that should not be underestimated. I've always preferred MAGDALENE (2019), but LP1 (2014) is pretty impressive as well.

fada sinestésica!!! essas fãs racistas do Robert Pattinson têm que tomar tudo no cu!

Maravilhoso!! Ótimo. Delicioso de ouvir... Gorgeous.

FINALMENTE uma artista solo feminina. E a FKA ainda. Que produção, o álbum passou voando.

Not great

I can feel magic in this album

I don't like using word 'beautiful' in recs because what does it even mean? But I don't know how else describe this album, every single song was simply beautiful and I loved it from first to last second.

Twigs' vulnerability is transcendent. I first heard Two Weeks listing to a mix, and stopped what I was doing to listen to the full album. There's a paradoxical intimacy to the lyrics and delivery that, even though it was released as an album, it makes me feel like I've stumbled on someone's private diary, and I shouldn't be listening to this because I'm crossing someone's boundaries. Incredible work.

Maybe a 4.5, I dunno, but the way experimental early 10s dance music is fused into pop forms is so mesmerising. On this relisten, the interpolation of Air Supply's "I'm all out of love" as it drops into Two Weeks is a levitational moment.

Slaps.

Rating: 10/10

Not exactly a perfect 5, but closer to a 5 than a 4

I don't get a lot of the criticism of this album in the top reviews. Yes lots of artists sound like this now... but they didn't when it was released! Also, it sounds great on proper speakers. It is also a remarkably sexy album and I have had a lot of sex with this as the background music, so that does endear it to me somewhat!

AMAZING

Amazing! I really enjoyed the instrumentals and the vocals on this one.

oh fuck. artistry on the next fucking level. generational. fav songs: lights on, two weeks, hours, video girl, number, kicks.

never heard of this before but instant 5 for me. i'm not sure what this is but i love it!!

I loved this so much. Wow, why did I miss this when it came out. It’s so unique. I’ve never really heard anything like it. I remember hearing FKA twigs’s second EP, maybe? This is a whole world unto its own. Oozing creativity. I was just waiting to find out what she was going to do next. I loved the choral influences. I’m sad that I never heard this when it came out, but in hindsight maybe I just wasn’t ready. 5/5, blew my mind

Avant-pop, a new genre that I now need to delve into. FKA Twigs provided a refreshing take on pop, using all sounds imaginable with an amazing voice to carry you through her soundscapes. Big fan now, I'm excited to continue following her.

Certified bedroom banger

What a gorgeous album. I’ve never given twigs much of a chance (outside of Cellophane, which may just be the best break up song of all time) but I will definitely be checking out more of her music after this.

I love this, really in the Björk and SOPHIE School of production, which is definitely one of my favorite approaches to music.

The production alone seems deserving of a 5. She has an absolute amazing display of vocals. There is literally something about every song I find enjoyable. This is another album that caught me off guard. Definitely 5! 1. Lights On 2. Preface 3. Video Girl 4. Numbers 5. Give Up

This is very cool. Really enjoyed Two Weeks, Numbers, and Kicks. But so many great moments overall.

(a) I can't stop looking at the cover. Her hair, her eyes, her lips, her teeth. The shine and color on her face. Beautiful but disquieting. (it's not a bruise, is it?) The hyper-real/non-reality of it. This image took up a lot of my brain space today. (b) I am completely unfamiliar with FKA twigs, a fact that earns the album extra points after what feels like several repeated artists over the past few weeks (a lot of white dudes I already know and some I've heard enough from already). (c) Like many others, this faded into the background a bit in the kitchen during dinner prep and was much, much, much, much, much more compelling and interesting with headphones and more focus. I'm intrigued and want more.

mon petit rayon de lune

Slow dreaming trap with slick vocals make this an easy listen to get your groove on.

This is such a beautiful album. Saw Twigs play twice and astounded and moved both times. Standout tracks: Lights On Two Weeks Hours Give Up Tbh I could just write the full track listing here.

Never heard of this artist before, but this is the kinda music I'm really digging these days. Good vibes and great beats. Definitely will be checking out more from her.

Really enjoyed this, I think I’ll return to it

I think everyone ragging on this doesn’t remember how pedestrian and soulless mainstream pop was in this era and how this felt like a total breath of fresh air. Well, this and all the others in the down tempo, post-Lorde oeuvre. Second half of this is better than the first half tho.

Like Kate Bush met Aphex Twin.

Far more vibrant and compelling than her peers

I listened to this on a plane at night and I felt like I was on a spaceship - v cool

On first listen I was leaning towards a three, but Kicks had that special something that made me want to go through again. On second listen more of the tracks stood out to me, with Lights On, Two Weeks, Video Girl, Numbers, Give Up and Kicks all being favorites. A pretty solid release from FKA Twigs (though I prefer Eusexua). 3.8/5 -> 4/5

Great "mood" music mixed with some bangers. Feels like a mix of Sade and Prince.

Traveling - will get back to this one. Temporary rating of 4 based on hearing it before

7,5/10 Highlights Two Weeks

I remember really enjoying this album when it came out but haven’t listened to it in a while. I’m looking forward to revisiting it but it'll be hard to give it an accurate rating because it's already so familiar and tricky to listen to with 'new' ears (I had a similar problem with Muse's Black Holes and Revelations when it came up for me earlier in the challenge). ETA post listen: It's the kind of album you have to be in a certain mood for but I did really sink into it yesterday and appreciate the chance to rediscover an old favourite.

I remember this being critically lauded when it came out, at the time I listened but didn’t really “get it” After listening again, it is a very stark production style that I believe was very influential on pop music, and the vocal is so pretty. I think if I’m on the right mood to chill out I’d come back here again

A beautiful record that just gently floats over you as you listen.

Imprescindible. Excelente

Maybe it was the I listened to this running on maybe 4 hours of sleep total over the last 36 hours, while on a train in Portugal, but I thought it was nice.

Overraskede positivt. Meget melodisk, eksperimenterende elektronisk.

Sexy alien ketamine vibe

Actually love FKA twigs This album sounded really lovely. Nothing I wouldn’t expect from her though, not quite the best/better than Eusexea but still great.

74/100. Intimacy can become overwhelming when we realize that being truly seen by another person also means risking the loss of the version of ourselves we carefully keep intact. This album captures pretty much everything that makes FKA twigs such a fascinating artist. The production is experimental, filled with bright synths, plucky textures, fragmented rhythms, and strange atmospheric details that constantly pull the music into a psychedelic haze. The sound design feels futuristic and intimate at the same time, creating an atmosphere that is both beautiful and unsettling. The songs explore intimacy, control, vulnerability, and emotional dependency in a way that feels personal without ever becoming overly direct. Twigs’ vocals float through the music almost like another instrument, blending into the hazy and dreamlike atmosphere.

Super cool sounding and some incredible songs. I really love her voice too

There was some real yearning going on on this album. Like 80s/90s level yearning with hyperpop & almost synthwave sounding melodies. It oddly works. My thing with Twigs is that it feels like she gotta get her weird aesthetic out of the way before she blesses us with chords. I don't hate it but sometimes it feels like sonic edging lol Highlights: Hours, Pendulum

Sure, twigs has gone on to make better albums in Magdelene and Eusexua, but really, complaining about LP1 in comparison to those two is like complaining that your filet mignon doesn’t also come with caviar.

people when they get a britpop album that was stale the day it came out: 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 people when they get anything remotely novel: 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Whispy ethereal

Futuristic pop--ahead of its time

Very sexy

I thought this was outstanding! I liked the first half more of the album more than the second half but overall a haunting voice with great beats and mature subjects. Very cool stuff!

Preface — interesting vibe to start off the album with Lights On — i like this one :3 Two Weeks — this was p good Hours — QUOTE THIS WITH ANKYYYYY!!! Pendulum — It’s p alright (not super my vibe unforch) Video Girl — mmmmm i like it more than pendulum Numbers — Fun sound! Closer — This one’s also good Give Up — one of the higher ones >:3 Kicks —

This was interesting. It reminded me a bit of Susanna and the Magical Orchestra, but it's not like anything else I've heard on here. It gets an extra star to compensate for the sexism that's got to be a factor in so many people giving it a 1.

She’s awesome. Love this album. I can’t think about her name too much but I respect it

more like FKA bad cuz its now known as good... 4 stars

pretty sick. the interplay between lovely spacey vocals and wacky spacey synths brings out a very cool sound. i think it just about has the stamina to fill out an album, although maybe it starts to drag a bit by the end. favorite song is Two Weeks or Video Girl. soft 4

Rating: 8/10 An album I love, fka twigs showed in her early EP's and debut album LP1 how she's one of the most unique and interesting in the world of modern art pop. It's still hard to find anything like it and its hypnotic sounds. There are some songs that are better than others, like Lights On, Pendulum, Video Girl, Kicks, and the incredible Two Weeks which could still be to this day her best song, but it's still all around great from start to finish.

This was a good album. Nice juxtaposition with churches

This is ... not what I expected even if I expected... anything remotely like ... expected (?) This IS exquisite It is like hard lounge with an edge of techno but her voice is kind of jazzy or sometimes hip-hop but the music is ... I did not look up what the genre is? Her own? Kind of experimental but already approved? Who is this person and what does she dare do? This is a treasure because it said Fuck you to pop culture and mainstream demands. This is not ... something I can explain. It must be listened to. If you don't find joy in it... sure? I guess? But if you do, you really will!

Just lovely. The prelude is gorgeous and then it continues to electronic wonder. 4/5

Strong debut album by one of the greatest pop artists of our time. Has some amazing highlights, but isn't consistent enough to be truly considered great in my opinion. 7/10

Really interesting. Some great beats that feel like a real mix of classic house and something much more futuristic. Vocals kind of passed me by first time as maybe a bit wishy washy but second time I found some really beautiful tender performances. Maybe a little bit Thom Yorkeish? I think having harmony lines so high in the mix is a part of it.

Great production. Almost more a soundscape than an album. Wikipedia says it's about sex and intimacy. I hear a lot of vulnerability, too. Looking forward to some re-listens to see how it grows on me.

The moment the song "Give Up" came on, my headphones gave up.

Somehow I completely missed this album when it came out, which is a shame because it’s really good. 𝘓𝘗𝟣 feels sleek, intimate, and slightly otherworldly, with production that constantly shifts in unexpected ways without ever losing focus. FKA twigs brings a lot of personality to every track, and the whole thing has a confident, distinct atmosphere that makes it stand out. A great record that definitely deserved my attention sooner.

This is a really interesting album. I know them by the name but I have never listened to anything they've done. This is really wonderfully experimental and well written by 2014 standards. They've got a whole 5 years before 100 Gecs perfected music on 1000 Gecs, and I'm only half joking with that. I think a lot of the experimental electronic/pop music from this era was great and trailblazing and revolutionary but once Gecs and Hyperpop tore through the scene stuff like this just feels safe by comparison. Absolutely no fault to FKA Twigs for that, just a casualty of time. This album is phenomenal but the rating is affected by what's come after it. I am disappointed as usual by the reviews on this album here on the site. This is absolutely an album you need to hear before you die. I tire of the dudes on here that truly embody the "all good music magically stopped in the 90s" vibe (unless the band is one that pulls direct sound from the 60s). Culture evolves, Music evolves. Get over yourself and listen to music made by a woman with a laptop. You're not cool because you refuse to listen to anything that isn't guitar driven. Make Money Machine the new national anthem.

Another headphone album, all about the intricate details and rich sound.

I liked this for the same reasons I liked early Grimes music. It’s different and a little ethereal.

Different. Great voice and beats....soulful too.

I really enjoyed this and I wasn't expecting to. Would be a great summer night record.

It’s electronic and has many layers. It’s definitely a nice experimental album. The vocal are pretty nice. The album itself is unique and ethereal. Favorite song: Lights on

Very r and b. I like this, but it feels like it was designed to have sex to. Maybe that's the whole genre though

Heel rustgevend

No sabía q habían cosas tan modernas acá

Really enjoyed this one!

I gave this a real earnest listen. Some cool dub beats and that song from Mr. Robot. I think Give Up was my fav track

Glitchier songs were nice, more normal songs were normal

Completely new to me, I was so uninformed that I thought FKA Twigs was an American hip hop artist. In fact she is a British electronic artist. And a very talented one. This is not really my thing, but I enjoyed it and it sounds like nothing I've heard before. Maybe a bit of Petra Haden with electronic beats and R&B influences. Interesting record, glad I heard it before I died

Quite an enjoyable listen from an artist I’ve never come across before. Can’t help but feel it’s very similar to Björk’s later work but that’s okay. Laid back for an evening chill. 4

Certainly one to revisit but impressed with what I heard

nice weird mood

Good album. I enjoyed it

cool very experimental in a way that i cannot compreend. futuristic heavenly vocals

This was interesting, and it was the perfect soundtrack for a tram ride and walk through Melbourne on a gloomy rainy day.

404/1089 - Glitchy and minimalistic. Sorta like James Blake and Bjork combined. I liked some of the songs that were less "modern pop" sounding, if that makes sense. The one's with low rhythmic syncopation and melodic variance weren't really my jam.

Like a Bjork album, but with more pop sensibilities. 4.5 bumped down to 4.

this was a very cool, unique album. chill, electronic, emotional. nice instrumentals and vocals. hope there's more music like this on the list! favorites: preface, lights on, two weeks, pendulum, video girl, give up

Ethereal and light. A refreshing album!

Really pleased to see this on the list, a modern album that dared to do something completely new and she has continued to do so in her later work

Not what I expected but in a good way! I enjoyed a lot very iniviative.

Went into this one pretty blind, only knowing FKA twigs by name only. The music itself was quite a surprise to listen to. Sounding almost like a precursor of Hyperpop-styled maximalist production while acting as a futuristic sounding R&B record. It's certainly a unique sound that fitted into the albums on this list that people rate under 3 stars that tend to be the more interesting or deviate too much for non music nerds to enjoy. Not to exclude the records rated lower because they are actually bad or unenjoyable to listen to, and at 120 records in (121 including LP1), I could only say 5 of those albums are trash. Enough about my personal rambling. I did really enjoy the production and the bass (most of the time), there's definitely some songs I didn't click with. Which I mean, I'm not a colored woman from the UK, I'm a white dude from America so my thoughts aren't important. Didn't really like Hours, Video Girl, or Give Up. I liked Pendulum, Two Weeks, and Numbers. My ears aren't best at hearing words in songs which really kicks in for a record like this, so I can't really gauge lyric quality or really any words that she sings (think of it how you would hear Bjork). I'll always respect a person doing pop music that tries to throw a wrench into the genre and do anything that deviates from the norm, which FKA twigs does with flying colors. Very much fits that mid 2010s production movement towards doing a lot of things in post production to make things close and distant with a careful approach to loudness. Is it more interesting than the songwriting? Sometimes. They blend well for a record like this.

Very creative album. I appreciate her artistry.

Weird and cool, enjoyed a lot but probably won’t go back to it that often

yet another debut album this time. a really sensual and erotic r&b pop album that sounds like it was made a century later. with mesmerizing vocal effects, processed samples and really unconventional beats... to make a long review short, this is a pop album from another planet. you might like this album if you're into the kind of music grimes makes.

Unmoored and meandering in the most mesmerizing way. All song structure and rhythm adrift and bereft of power producer pop hooks. It's more a bedroom studio vibe. Really nice, so captivating. Ok, enough of me fawning.

Music wise, this was a little weird and out there, but interesting. Beautiful singing voice.

I love the trip-hop of the '90s. The only problem is that so little of it was really good. The genre produced both Portishead and Massive Attack, both of which should be in every music fan's collection, but not much more. The real lasting legacy of the genre is not the excellent music it left behind but the impact it had on the music that followed. Shoegaze is another genre with a similar legacy. It has its fans, but apart from Loveless and Heaven or Las Vegas, very little of it is essential listening for all music fans. More than any artist I've heard, FKA twigs blends these two very British genres. LP1 is trip-hop shoegaze, and I am so here for it. I had heard very little of her music before yesterday, but I had always found her intriguing. Now that I've spent some time with LP1, I am excited to explore the rest of her catalog. This music is creative, sexy, and just flat-out beautiful, with that rainy-day vibe that the Brits do so well. In fact, atmosphere and texture are so important to this album that I count myself lucky that my first listen was on an hour-long, drizzly drive through the country to visit a friend. It was absolutely perfect for that context. The production is nicely layered and creative. Even though it's not truly groundbreaking, there are enough unexpected turns that it held my interest and never felt like it dragged on. Likewise, FKA twigs's singing is delicate but not fragile. She reminds me of Elizabeth Fraser in that regard, though twigs is easier to understand with proper EQ. What I heard of the lyrics was solid and fitting for the record's sound, though nothing stood out as particularly memorable. I'll be happy to update my view if repeated listens provide any stand-outs. This record didn't exactly move me, as it didn't challenge me or give me much to think about, but it was gorgeous and so uniquely textured that I plan to come back to it. Four stars.

Nice avant pop album. Not as obnoxious with its heavy singing elements as I would normally find this style of music.

I listened to a bit of FKA Twigs a few years ago and didn't really bother to listen again. I was probably a bit unfair as this was pretty good.

FAVO: Lights on, Hours, Video Girl, Kicks

One of my mid 2010 favorites. She's so freakin cool.

Cool sounds. cool bass track 1. VIbey, v cool sounds. chilll.

Her name suggests this might be hiphop à la Little Sims, but that's absolutely not what you get when you press play (it took me a while to remember that). This record marries classic R&B sexiness with the ethereal weirdness of your favorite Icelandic pop star; it’s no wonder this made a splash when it came out. I hear influences from Sade, Erykah Badu, Janet Jackson, Enya, Bjork, and Imogen Heap all rolled up in a well-produced package that doesn't feel forced. To have a debut album that feels this fresh and fully formed is quite an accomplishment. I remember the first time I heard “Two Weeks” and feeling like I could live in that groove for hours (maybe even two whole weeks). I still feel it every time, but it never feels quite like it did the first time. That song instantly transports me to the dance floors of my early twenties - which were very much in my rearview by 2014 - it's a song that simultaneously feels like the night (and myself, by extension) would live forever, but also makes me keenly aware that it won't and I should savor it as long as possible. It's the feeling of being present in a moment and a future memory at the same time. The follow-up album, 2019's MAGDALENE, feels more intimate and not quite as expansive as LP1. It's a lovely record, but in a different way. CAPRISONGS, feels further diluted and the interludes don't do the album any favors (remember trying to listen to hiphop albums in the 90s?). EUSEXUA is a wonderful return to form, I'm just not sure which version of the album is canon at this point? Anyways, I totally understand this not being for everyone, but there’s certainly artistic merit and plenty to explore here. Only saying "it's shite." with your one star review says more about you than it does whatever record you're reviewing. Do better.

Tolle Stimme, interessante Musik. Atmosphärisch, fesselnd. 4/5

I’ve never been very interested in Twigs. I liked a couple of her songs and nothing more. I’m pleasantly surprised by this album, especially by its amazing production

sexy space r&b to get damp and sweaty to you. yummy. vocals that float. genitals that tremble. fkaaaaaaa is doing it.

I'm so old. I am aware of FKA twigs but I would have guessed grime if pushed on what genre she was so this was a very pleasant surprise. A real ecletic mix of sounds with a strong pop edge and some groovy beats and a nice 40 min length.

Forgot how much I listened to this when I came out I knew every song on this re listen ! Still holds up I like it !

Really like the sound she goes for in this one. Not what I'd typically listen to but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought this album had great vocals and beats. Not 100% for me but it got me interested in FKA twigs other albums

Since people doing this list tend to skew towards closed-minded boomers, i'm not surprised this album has a below average rating. I would guess that the newer the album, the lower people rate it. FKA Twigs is someone i've just heard about in the news and think "no idea who this is" and move on. As a boomer myself, (albeit open-minded one), it's difficult to hear new artists that are coming out in droves, especially when the first time you hear about them is celebrity gossip trash news. And once again, this lists love for Mercury Prize nominees, but not the winner. I will say that I was not expecting this album to be this kind of dream pop or glitch pop. I like the song Closer, which almost like a dream version of a choral hymn, which is great. I really like this album as it's close enough to the EDM style, psychedelic genre that just allows you to flow with the music. A concert/club environment would be really cool. I've been a long enjoyer of the original trap music (not what it's become now) and glitch hop as well as EDM and GOA trance and this fits perfectly with what I currently enjoy listening to. It's not without flaws though. I think she stays in the same falsetto vocal range a bit too much and i'd like to see a bit more variation. It's a lot of airy, high vocals. Great album though and the rating definitely suffers from primacy bias.

I listened to this back when it was new, but didn't spend much time with it. I *did* spend a good amount of time w/ the EPs that preceded this though. Listening to this with fresh ears, I really liked what I heard. This is my kind of avant-pop. Nothing quite reaches "Water Me" level, but it's still really good and good throughout. 4/5

I liked it but Amy didn't. I bet it's good on headphones

Unfortunately for FKA Twigs I always get her confused with Grimes and I resent her for shagging that billionaire nazi guy. Anyway, this was great, will definitely listen to this again, thank you FKA Twigs, and sorry for the mix-up

The new generation’s Bjork. Down tempo electronic meets trip-hop meets pop. Good vocals, lots of texture. Fun through headphones.

I can’t say I really enjoyed this album, but overall it’s pretty decent for experimental R&B, avant-pop, and art pop. It’s a very minimal record by nature, and it really takes advantage of negative space in the production. The silence and subtlety between arrangements become part of the atmosphere. If you’re into the more experimental side of someone like Björk, then this will probably be right up your alley.

I'm fairly new to her, first hearing her mixtape Caprisongs in 2022, which I thought was decent but her album this year EUSEXUA is brilliant! So this is my first time looking backwards and it's a positive one. You can hear the path from this to her current release but there's already so much to enjoy here, Falling somewhere between pop, R&B and electronica, it's dark (she's been through a lot!), ethereal and consistently engaging. It's exactly what I want from 'pop' music.

alternative beats to make out to

--Preface...oh, we gettin' weird --Lights On...the production is lush. a lot of interesting things happening --Two Weeks...the great production continues but this track kind of wanders aimlessly --Hours...definitely an album for headphones (compliment) --Pendulum...it's minimalist but expansive at the same time. not sure I can truly appreciate this without multiple listens --Video Girl...keeps the vibes going --Numbers...this feels both accessible and challenging. I love that --Closer...I don't know if I would even call these "songs". Soundscapes? Sound collages? But I'm enjoying it --Give Up...I can't say that I love this album, but it has its claws dug into me. like a David Lynch movie --Kicks...damn, this was fun. I will come back

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Very immersive music

Fuksivuoden muisteloita. Hyvä edustaja 2010-luvun kiinnostavammalle poppikselle. 4/5

Kind of a chill record

Beyond anything, I was struck by how FKA twigs presents as such a personal and immediate presence. The sounds on the record feel as sensually human as her voice, and the songs pulse and vibrate in a profoundly distinctive way, like it's all flowing from her. Beautiful.

I dig FKA twigs

This album is in the golden age of whispery pop songs over pounding electronic beats. FKA twigs is doing it magically here. It's an elegant space age arrangement of songs. Her voicework is layer upon layer of harmonies. It's soft and sweet in juxtaposition with the bass heavy beats. And when she transitions to her full voice, it feels like an incredible release from the built up tension.

I have obviously heard of this artist. Not quite sure if I have listened to their stuff. Interested to check out. Not quite what I was expecting. Very interesting. Throw out the aesthetics, a little Bjork-like. Pretty good music. Album pretty sick.

Surprisingly quite good

FKA twigs is weird. Music itself wasn't great but at least it was interesting and unlike anything else we've had on the list so far, so that made it a relatively fun listen

lovely sounding

The tension between the very shy person who feels that they absolutely must perform is always interesting

Cool album! Very unique sounds and beats. The lyrics didn't do anything for me, but everything else made up for it. I'm leaning towards a 8/10. I can listen to this again.

Kinda odd seeing an album pop up that you've listened to back in college. This album is still great a decade later and really sets the tone for pop/RB that's come out since then.

Underwater ASMR + singing ghost + middle schooler that was always laying down a beat in the back of class with a ruler and a mechanical pencil

I’ve tried to listen to this album in the past and the whispery baby voice just did not do it for me, but I have been torn to shit by the gworlies for it time and time again. Let me lock in now, about 2-3 years post my last listen, and report back… Ok, I’m back. I think listening to it in this context actually makes it soar. I did a lot of headphone listens in the past and this round I did an atmospheric room listen. Way different. I also loved Eusexia (bc I’m normie scum) and that also gave FKA a running start this listen around.

Hey, this is pretty good! Y’all were right all those years ago.

Voorlopig 3.5/5.

Lots on here triggered by this. Seems to me after a second listen a pretty compelling slice of 2010s pop. Hyperdub, PC music, lots of other influences but its a pretty singular vision. The space in this album is immense.

Sensuous vocals that create a soundscape of an entirely different world

First time listener to any of this artist's material - very impressed with the content and vocals. I'll now dip into the rest of FKA's material. Hint of Tori Amos in there too.

this album has a song about price tag by jessie j and we really need to LET THAT SOAK IN

it's great album, i really loved it!

A pleasant surprise (I had never heard of this artist before). This is a lovely record. My only gripe is that the album never shifts gears at all.

I liked it a lot. What a voice and music from this artist. Songs are great and the lyrics tie all in together. Nice to listen to and historic soul music in the modern landscape.

Cool artsy stuff. Low 4/5

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. It's like the music playing in that trendy store in the mall ... mixed with some Taylor Swift vibes

Definitely a grower I think. Liked it though.

An intuitive mix of Robyn (if she ventured farther a field), Kate Bush (with better pop sensibilities) and Bjork (an obvious immediate reference but more listenable/enjoyable/approachable than anything she's done in 25 yrs).

I had to relisten this album, and also, had to forget the already written reviews on this album, to form an unbiased opinion, so I waited a few weeks for this relisten. Is it accessible, no, but it's surely interesting. I like the diversity of sounds, beats and electronics and the ethereal sensuality of her voice. In particular I liked "Two weeks" which does reminds me in a distance of later Kate Bush's works and the song "Closer" which almost sounds like a pop song. But then again, the more obscure and darker songs like "numbers" are just as interesting as the spacious, moody songs like "Kicks" or "lights On". It truly foreshadowed her talents as later being displayed by her albums "MAGDALENE" and her latest album "EUSEXUA". 4/5

It's been a minute, but I remember really enjoying this album. Production throughout is top notch -- the backing instrumentals tap into an pop-experimental electronica with support from some greats of that space (Arca, Sampha). Her voice is unique -- whispery at times and piercing at others -- and she uses it to great effect throughout with layering and various modifications. Absolutely love the production on Lights On. Sparse to begin opening into a lumbering jazz bassline with electronic bits and bobs reminiscent of James Black (circa The Colour in Anything) -- ah its Arca on the boards, makes sense. Two Weeks is simply beautiful. Love the space created in the instrumentation and how her voice pierces. Numbers is another favorite of mine on here. Kicks is a solid closer.

Interesting!

I only knew a couple singles from this, which I've always really liked. But this is a great, weird album.

Nota: 3.9

sexy music love

Very interesting I gotta say, quite liked the chill weird vibes

I used to listen to a lot of glitch music around the early 2000s. Artists like Prefuse 73 and Oval felt excitingly different but destined for relative obscurity except for a brief period of Bjork's music. Hearing a genuinely new kind of music, it really felt like a shame to have it lost to music history. Fortunately, it found a nature match as a bizarre and challenging kind of R&B. The collaboration was desperately needed. Artists like Arca make some interesting music but really, how much can you listen to? And R&B also needed some major innovation to stay fresh. The combination of the two works perfectly for an unusual yet sensual new kind of music. FKA twigs is a clear champion of this suggested, having quickly risen to fame and a Mercury Prize nomination for her debut. The cover art prepares you for something equally human and post-human, like the music itself. It's definitely challenging and may take some time and the right frame of mind to appreciate. But you can't accuse her of making boring music.

Aight.

Oh shit this is awesome

Liked it

Nice stuff

A pretty good album, I liked Two Weeks, Hours, Video Girl and Closer the most.

An interesting listen. Twigs has her own style and she makes listeners think and feel stuff. I can't even say for sure that I enjoyed this album, but I think I did. It felt like it was over to soon - and that's more than I can say for a lot of other albums.

Interesting production ideas and techniques on this album. But I feel it didn't give me as much emotion as it did for some listeners. Let's see what surprises the other 1000 albums have to offer me.

Bare boomers giving this album hate because it doesn't have a guitar on it, but it's a modern classic, and incredibly influential.

I don't like pop, but I loved this pop. I can get behind any artist who is not afraid to try something new, especially when it comes together like this. Beautiful and interesting music.

I’ve tried in the past to get into FKA twigs, but she never clicked. So going into the album, I was a bit worried if I could finish it. That said, listening to the full album is a more enjoyable experience than just hearing a single on its own. I came away liking this more than I expected, even though I doubt I’ll seek out more of her on my own volition. 3.5 / 5

6/16/25. Became a fan of FKA's later work so it was cool to revisit this one. Love that she pursues a unique sound in an ever-so-crowded pop space and tries to do her own thing. Songs are engaging and fun to listen to.

4.5 even? What a change of mind!

Atomspheric and better in headphones but a great sign of things to come.

Quite ethereal, airy, works fantastically as a whole, while on the other hand no singular tracks jumped at me and stuck in my memory after a couple of listens.

Definitely enjoyed this way more than anticipated. Has an overall mood that caught me on the right day.

Pretty cool and chill

Reminiscent of Bjork

Really, really, really enjoyed this much more than I thought I might. It's super visceral but also melodic, you can absolutely get the sense of what she's saying and the diction is really clear. The instrumentation is good, without being mind-blowing, but I think overall this is one of the better rap albums from the last 15 years.

Interesting album

Thoroughly enjoyed this collection of glitchy, sensual tunes. Adding this one to my master playlist. Standout tracks: Pendulum, Kicks

Great debut - amazing voice and crisp production.

I can't say I loved it, but as it played in the background I found myself responding to it with small smiles.

This is some serious doin’ it music.

Great debut by an artist who is still getting better currently. This one takes more from the Alternative R&B wave of the early-10's than the rest of her output, but does it in a uniquely captivating way. I am mixed on Arca generally, but here the production is subtle enough while remaining interesting. (side note: I love all the "old man yells at cloud" reviews for this.) Key tracks: Two Weeks Hours Video Girl Closer

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Artwork: 😬🔴🟦 Production: 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🎛️🎤🌟🔥💔🦎 Rating: 🦋🦋🦋🦋(🦋)/5

Frontrunner plade! Den er pissegod!

A damn good album I wouldn’t have listened to otherwise. Ethereal and haunting and weird and sexy.

Dreamy. Sensual. Intoxicating. These are the adjectives that rose to the top as I listened a second time through. Wasn't sure how I felt after the first listen, but it had a way of wrapping me up and entangling me up once I gave into it.

I can understand why people didn’t enjoy this one but it really felt experimental and new. It pops with solid headphones

There's something so erotic and sensual about Twigs. For all the contemporary artists that try so hard to capture an erotic chemistry on a recording, she does it so effortlessly. On top of that you have some unique songwriting and she executes well while covering fresh ground. I'm into it.

This is an incredibly sensual album. But where people would normally use that description for artists like Sade, this is a darker, experimental, and almost industrial variant with ditto lyrics instead of soft jazz. This music sounds incredibly elaborate and yet sensitive. This album was a huge surprise, especially the first three songs, which stuck with me after just a few listens. This is the only reason it doesn't receive a full five stars. The album feels a bit front-heavy and loses some momentum towards the end.

Good good

loved the bleep bloops on it

I thought this was pretty ambitious and experimental sonically. Thought about a 3 but I tend to reserve that Rating for albums I am indifferent about, which this definately wasn't. So, 2 or 4..given this had me checking out her later (superior imho) albums it has to be the latter. Also, I am no identity-politiker but after a ridiculous Run of 10+ albums by I think exclusively white rockers, this was a refreshing change...

i don't think i've ever met anyone who expressed their sexual and emotional needs through harrowing dubstep sound palettes before, but it's not like i'm gonna complain. there are worse ways to do it -- power electronics, Steven Segal patois, no third example -- and as much as i like R'n'B, i think this barely counts as something connected to that genre. FKA twigs has much more in common with Björk in their contortion of dance music and unconventional electronic sounds to work for them as pop rather than making a pop song into something you can dance to. i feel like her fursona would be a pillbug, something shiny on the outside but spindly and organic on the inside.

I wasn’t expecting much from this. I’ve known the name but not the music. I assumed it was random modern popular-ish music. It was. But somehow I found myself enjoying this despite myself. The sound had a lot more variation in it thank think this type of music usually does.

This is the only album of hers that I haven't listened to before and I find I need to listen to an album of hers several times to fully appreciate what she's doing. Still, a good sound and lots of good moments.

I felt like I was on a spiritual journey... to somewhere. It was nice place to visit, hope to go back soon

it has a lot of playful production that sometimes evokes homogenic era bjork paired with very intimate and sexual themes done in a way that feels like a very emotional and ethereal experience

Loved the sound design a looooot! First half really had me going. Second half I got tuckered out ooh so eepy sleepy, but probably skill issue. Will love to come back to it yay. strong 7?

I really hated math as a teenager. I remember thinking I was a person who could never be good at it cause my brain didn't work that way. I would do as little as possible in those classes just so I wouldn't have to think about it. In high school I would often sleep through my math class and do nothing if not absolutely needed. I have long hair and have always had long hair so it was easy for me to hide my earbuds listening to music. This was an album I constantly listened to at that time. Everytime I listened this I thought it was an album from the future made for future people. I thought 'wouldn't it be cool to be living in the future?' I had this exact thought process multiple times in that class until one day I realized my present is the future someone else envisioned. Someone in the 90s thought it'd be awesome to be a teen in the 2010s, and I thought it'd be cool to be a teen in the 2030s. I was so excited to be an adult in the 2020s.

8/10 FKA Twigs establishes modern Pop and R&B on LP1 in ways we’re hearing more and more of even after a decade. Even though I prefer her work after this point, I still deeply respect LP1 as a sort of foundation for innovative and avant-garde Pop music in the internet age. Not only is she a great Pop and R&B songwriter, making these some very memorable songs by themselves, she fuses them with Deconstructed Club, IDM, Glitch, and Dupstep in an extremely fluid and organic way. There’s nothing that feels synthetic about Twigs’ music despite it so obviously being so futuristic. It’s super organic, and precisely crafted, of course with help from some of the best producers in the game right now (Arca, Sampha, Clams Casino and many more). Her voice is insanely hypnotic, I think that’s just an objective factor to everything she’s done but you can’t help but fall for these very psychedelic and ethereal vocal deliveries. An incredible start and she only gets better from here, I already know Eusexua will continue to deliver. Thank you women (+Robert Pattinson)!

Didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. Sonically the album is incredibly appealing.

R&B has never been my forte, but i guess this is more like artsy pop music, and it slaps.

My college radio station used to play Two Weeks all the time, which is how I first heard of FKA Twigs. I really like that song as well as Video Girl and Give Up, which might be my favorite of them. Overall I think this is a beautiful record, even if I'm not often in the mood for it. The songs make me think of wandering in a desert until you're seeing mirages and questioning the reality of your entire life. The last time I hear this, I didn't know Arca, Devonté Hynes, or Sampha by name, but now I do. It was cool listening for their work this time around.

Two Weeks is an all time top song for me. Love this album but Magdalene is probably my 5 start twigs album. Still on listing to this full album which I haven’t in a while it’s close to getting 5 stars and reminding me how exquisite FKA twigs. Pendulum and Video Girl are also amazing.

disorienting, in a good way - wobbly synths, vocals in different registers, minimalist arrangements with fast-shifting, interesting components

Probably my favourite album on here so far (although it is early days). Some interesting sound design, lyricism, FKA's singing is great to listen to, good variety across the album, and good vibes all round. Couple highlights, but there was stuff to enjoy on most tracks: - Pendulum's chugging flow and melodic sounds, with jazzy harmonies kept me captivated - Kicks' melodic build up to an eerie breakdown

Nice background music

Cool sound but not my vibe

That was an ecstasy-fuelled drug trip and you cannot tell me different. That said, I loved the high soprano, I loved the hard romance, I loved the mood. Do I remember much of it? No but I’ve got echoes of the emotions, just like some quality E.

One of those albums that takes several listens to fully appreciate. A vulnerable exploration of sexual power dynamics and insecurity.

Huge fan of early FKA Twigs stuff and whilst Magdalene is my absolute favourite and one of my favourite albums of all time, this is still incredible. Explosive creativity. Interesting.

Great stuff. I don't often listen to FKA twigs but when I do I love her. Feels really fresh and she's trying new stuff and what not. Some of it reminds me of early Grimes.

i liked magdalene, but tbh wasn't too crazy about it and haven't returned to it since I first listened to it year ago. I hope I like this album more because I lowkey wanna like her music, eusexua looking to be a good ass album based on those new singles she's been dropping. acra was heavily involved with this albums production ooohh. green flag im interested this is got that early 2010s electropop stank to it sometimes. definitely enjoyed it more than Magdalene

3.8 - I actually thought I was going to hate this, but it was kinda portishead vibe. Surprised me

I respect this album, but I'm not really that into it. I don't think I'm going to hugely want to return to even the tracks I think are great. Fave Tracks: Lights On, Two Weeks, Numbers 3.7/5

I actually own this on Vinyl, great album by an extremely creative artist. I haven’t revisited this one in a while so it has some nostalgic value to it now which was unexpected.

10 years late to the party but I thought this was pretty class. A few songs blended into 1 which knocked a point off, but 80% of this was really really good. Reminded me of a poppier version of Purity Ring at times, strangely even Julia Holter at other times. Will definitely be back, already had it on a few times. 4.5

First listen. Ok.

This was interesting, exciting, something original that I hadn't heard before. Can't wait to give it another listen

I’m rating it high but kinda smashing in the comments. It’s a cool vibe, but I’m definitely not going to listen to it on my own. It’s interesting and a little experimental but not for me.

How do you quantify the ethereal and unexpected sound of FKA Twigs? This is the kind of album that purposefully subverts genre expectations. To call it experimental would betray it's listenability and beauty but to call it anything else would undersell it's playfulness. Twigs' vocal stylings on this album are less impressive than her next album MAGDALENE but it still manages to be a spirited album with a lot to love. This is nothing short of genius to me and I can't get enough of this style of music.

very weird but i liked it

Wow, has it been 10 years already? A killer full-length debut from a unique talent. Not as good as the second, but still just a great album to put on late at night. Ethereal and beautiful and out of this world with super chill beats.

Very good. Had seen her in a movie but had never given her music a listen.

Definitely unique.

first listen very interesting and not super cohesive

Definitely wrote this album off when I first heard it in my pretentious radio station days. It's a lot more interesting to listen to now. I thought of the weird electronic effects infused with the R&B aesthetics were there for the sake of being weird but they actually really elevate the songwriting. Pendulum is such a beautiful track with great panning effects giving the song a very titular feel, Lights on as well is very intimate. Two Weeks is a very obvious stand out single. Video Girl has amazing voice modulation. Numbers has a gut wrenching chorus lyrically. Closer almost feels like a church hymn from the future in terms of tone but has a beautiful love theme. There are just so many cool blends of choral tone manipulation, trap influenced R&B beats, eerie yet beautiful synth choices all over this thing.

Beautiful music that is NSFW

This is probably the best time for me to have gotten this album, because I've been listening to a ton of this psychedelic soul/alternative R&B. Frank Ocean, Miguel, Sza, etc, and this album fits in with that headspace. It's dreamy, it's poppy, it's ethereal. It's creative and unique, and it manages to be excellent background music while also being complex and poignant enough that one could sit in a dark room, close their eyes, and just concentrate on the music. 4 stars.

First time listening to this album really enjoyed it, reminded me a bit of a more modern portishead/massive attack, with the chilled out heavy base, added to my frequent rotation.

I like this album. I'm surprised it's over ten years old. Feels younger.

Very interesting sound.

Smooth, sexy and sad all at once. Pretty good!

Epitome of modern electronic production

Lights On // Two Weeks // Video Girl // Closer // Kicks // 3.5/5

Interesting album, overall I liked it

I enjoyed this quite a bit. Was better with headphones, some parts made my ears feel all weird which was cool. 4/5

The second half of the album is very good. I knew this had a lot of praise ad at 3 songs in I wondered why. But then by the next song everything started to come together. The strange sonic landscapes better matched the the songs and I became interested.
