hmmm ja sicher guet aber hüt scho klassisch de vibe verfehlt & ich chönt der nöd mal gnau säge was hüt min vibe gsi isch, aber de isch's irgendwie nöd gsi has scho paar mal versuecht mich mit de fka twigs ahzfründe, hed bis jetzt noni klappt – wer weiss, vilicht eines tages also wenn ich sie wär würd ich das album umbenenne uf LP3sternli

Yeh, nice, probably won't put it on again. Her 2nd one was a banger.

Interesting but not my thing

preface- 5 or 6. promising lights on- 5 two weeks- 5 hours- 5 pendulum- 5 video girl- 5 numbers- 5 closer- 5 give up- 5 kicks- 5 nothing lived up to the intro lol

Never heard of her. The wife knew she had dated the vampire. This was interesting, though. She had some cool going on. If I had more time I’d listen again with a little more vested interest.

I didn't really get it at first, but by Closer I understood. It's still not my exact style of music, a little too electronic for me. However, it's beautifully composed and I see why people really enjoy FKA twigs. I think it ended up right down the middle for me by the end.

It was weird and out there but overall I’m a fan

Interesting, stylish but a bit boring

It’s ok

When I did my research a bit before listening and reading some of the reviews I had a feeling that I would prolly like this a bit more than most people on here. It's a decent shall we say "glitch pop" album, but that leads us to the inherent problem with this whole book/website. I agree with people on here asking not why it's on here, but not because it's bad but because is so middling. There are plenty, I'm sure, better examples of this kind of music. Hell the Björk albums that were done by Matmos are on here and way better. Speaking of Matmos why are they not on here? Do we need 9 David Bowie albums? Did a better glitch electro pop album lose a spot for one of those multiple Bowie albums or all the Beatles? Not the best representation of what I'm calling "Glitch Pop" or even glitchy electronic music in general but not worthy of a single or double star.

Listened to her other newer projects, I can see where she works to improve upon the sound demonstrated here. There's a bunch of people not willing to give this a real listen, I don't really know what the point of using this site would be if that was the case. 7/10

Recent album from an artist I have heard of. I enjoyed Two Weeks. The rest was ok. Low 3.

I really enjoyed this album.

There’s a great voice in there somewhere it’s just ruined by bad production

Not bad, I would say it’s more ambient, chill music for the ears. It’s definitely got a r&b sound. The vocals, I find are very melodic and more upfront; where the beats are more of a complement to the vocals.

Weird but not in a bad way. I liked the vocals. I dunno what to rate this one lol I guess a 3 works

I wasn’t sure what to expect from FKA twigs, but it sure wasn’t this. I found it reminiscent of two of my favorites: Björk and Portishead. The sounds are hypnotically dynamic, but I started feeling bogged down by them about halfway through the album, almost like I was physically being pounded into the ground. The angelic tone of her vocals floored me. Some of the songwriting was well done and I mostly enjoyed the lyrical themes. I’m glad I listened to it, but I don’t think I would re-listen. It’s quite draining.

I think I like it? The mix sounds like a small performance in a big room. It's a sound Billie Eilish would find success with a few years later. It's also stirring a LOT of ingredients into the pot, like techno and trip hop, while letting them settle into a complex yet mellow stew. It's the musical version of a fusion slow cooker. It's never going to wow me, but it works. As a debut, it's good (even if it loses steam at times), and it makes me want more from her, even if I don't love this. I've got this feeling a few times from new artists, and I'm hoping she's more a Harry Styles than Halsey.

It was ok

ive heard good things about this. Didnt hate it but im not a massive fan

A good album but this is also one I kind of forgot about after putting it on. Nothing bad to say about it though and some of it sounded really good. Just not really for me. High 3.

This was considered very cool when we were at Vassar, but in reality it's kind of boring. She kind of fades into the background here although maybe that'a the point?

Got a lot better when I put headphones on, but the songwriting feels quite weak. As an amateur (sometimes paid for) musician myself I can sympathise.

Interesting soundscapes and good production. Unfortunately on first listen the songs didn't quite hold up. Quite possibly would change in time, but to be honest I dont think it'll get a second listen. 5/10

It’s distinctive, but feels more like a flash in the pan than something that will endure

It’s fine

Great production but lame songwriting

Struggled with this album to be honest. Although I did like some of the unusual drumming patterns and arrangements - I just felt it was too jarring.

me ha gustado el album en general, las canciones experimentales son todo un viaje de sonidos aqui. me gusta mucho la voz de FKA twigs y sus videoclips suelen ser muy chulos tambien. Canciones favs: two weeks, give up

Nice, vibey pop here. Would be great soundtrack sounds. The songs all had a continuous thread and one tended to bleed into the other for me. I enjoyed “lights on” the most.

esto es como algo completamente nuevo para mí, me llamo bastante la atención, me gustó básicamente

No quite what I was expecting, but didn’t mind it. Simpsons: No

What a weird one, I can see why people might like it and I think it's good but I also don't care for it in the slightest. Good for you twigs for making this but it's for someone else.

Not my cup of tea

First listen of FKA Twigs, and not what I expected. Feels more influenced by ambient and even trip hop than 2010s pop, and more like genuine experimentation than studio overproduction. Liked it, but relatively forgettable too. 3.5 ⭐

i like her poppy, dancy tracks much better but this album isn’t too much of that

"Video Girl" je faking hud. Pa vsaj še en komad ti je bil ful všeč, prot začetku albuma nekje (mogoč "Lights On" ali "Two Weeks" - po ponovnem poslušanju: oba sta huda). Mal sm se mogla navadit višine glasu. Nekak ta višina ni v mojem usual repertoarjem. Ženska je na tej točki svojga lajfa rabla ful boljše partnerje kot jih je očitno dobivala. "Give Up" tud kul. "Kicks" se ne morm čist odločit. Ful menja the moods. Ta mirni mi neki ne potegnejo, ta živahni pa ful. Ugh, razn zj je en del k ga pa sovražim čist, a evo, se je že nenadoma sprelevil v faking hud komad spet. Wtf. Morm revisitat. (Po ponovnem poslušanju: ne, isti kurac. Deli komada so mi ful všeč, deli me pa prou aktivno odbijajo.) Ok, nism si mislila, da mi bo tolk komadov na albumu všeč. Do zdaj sm samo enkrat slučajno vidla en video FKA twigs in moj edini spomin na to je, da je fakin weird video. To je ženska, k se ne boji bit ona.

Never really listened to a full album of FKA twigs. It was fine, not my favorite.

Some really pretty stuff on here. The reviews are overly harsh. Would listen again

Very different from your typical r and b album. I liked it but didn’t love it

There were a number of things to like in this album from the production to the voice. Overall though it just never got me in a groove like most trip hop. Low end 3 on this one.

This album took a while to get into. At first I thought it was just really weird for the sake of being weird. But 3 or 4 songs in I started to get the groove. I think it was Pendulum that was my favorite song with the best electronic backing sounds. Definitely not the type of music I seek out at all but it was a cool listen. This is a higher 3

This is certainly interesting a few songs in. I don't know if I actually like it, but the production definitely seems top notch. Respect for it sounding very different from anything I think I've ever heard. This is a confused 3.

It wasn’t memorable

I find her voice hypnotizing. Had not heard this album, only a couple songs like cellophane, which I love, but never took time to check out the rest.

Not bad. Rachel filled me in on her tragic relationship history.

I can’t say I really enjoyed this album, but overall it’s pretty decent for experimental R&B, avant-pop, and art pop. It’s a very minimal record by nature, and it really takes advantage of negative space in the production. The silence and subtlety between arrangements become part of the atmosphere. If you’re into the more experimental side of someone like Björk, then this will probably be right up your alley.

Nice for some atmosphere.

good, not for me

This was a strange one to review. It definetly isn't my style of music and I was disappointed with the lack of substance in the lyrics. For it to be on this list i'd expect well crafted and meaningful concepts for songs but this wasn't that. However, I did enjoy zoning out and just letting the album play, ahe has a nice voice and the beats were decent

The only thing I liked about this was her voice. But then again, I didn't really get it, so I don't think I'm qualified to say whether or not it was good or bad. 3

Enjoyable

Random thoughts: * I've listened to FKA Twigs several times now based on critics recommendations. It's still not clicking for me. * It really isn't fun music. It has kind of a sad and ephemeral sound which doesn't particularly make for upbeat listening. * Lights On is a good song and was kind of sleek and sexy. * I respect this music but I think it is just not for me.

I have never really been a pop guy, but this isn't bad. It doesn't really do much for me, but I wouldn't describe it as bad. It is a little repetitive and the songs all kind of sound the same, but it isn't that bad. High 3.

I can admire something for the skill and creativity and also not particularly like it.

Kinda enchanting.

Mixed experience. A few songs are innovative and cool to listen to, but it does get a bit boring and some of the song annoy. 2.7 stars

stand by two weeks being one of the best singles of the 2010s, but after not hearing this for a few years I was SLEEPY

I am aware of FKA twigs, but I have never listened to FKA twigs. This was not bad, but it also didn't stand out to me. I wish she would drop the falsetto and belt it out a little.

And we’re back. In the back of a car, retox’d, going to McD’s out by the marina; in bed until 11am gingerly warming up to face the first vape of the day; absolutely hating the way the grubbiness of the tube clings, invades. (Airplanes do something similar; as above, so below.) We are in the 2010s and everything is either on Brainfeeder or inspired by artists that are. LP1 is the latter; although twigs has managed to do something many of predecessors couldn’t and written some actual pop songs. Odd sort of tone paintings that move in often unpredictable, mercurial sorts of ways, but still. I didn’t listen to LP1 at the time, but that doesn’t stop this feeling like a sort of nostalgia ouija board. “Two Weeks” and its iconic chorus convenes a séance of once-familiar phantoms: the Lapalux of “Without You”, the SBTRKT of “Wildfires”, the Disclosure of “Latch” etc. There’s stuff here I overlooked at the time – “Pendulum” works itself into the sort of agonising crescendo that would have totally pulverised me in my early-20s; “Video Girl” slaps – but I can’t shake the feeling there’s something weirdly, maybe uncannily, dated about much of this record. It’s just so 2014. And in so far as I was too, that suddenly feels like a long time ago. Time to put the ouija board away, at least for now.

👼🏻🤖👾 now playing cyberpunk radio. She was a fairy✨. This shit sucks megacockalis. Music to tweak to. I mean it's alright.

Cool, but it didnt amaze me

Nice album of ambient/trip hop with big Portishead influence although seems to lack the emotional depth of Beth Gibbons.

Truly the dawn of a new era in pop. I think for years now, FKA twigs has been pretty damn cutting edge when it comes to spacey pop music. She's got a baroque, chamber pop edge for sure. I guess you could pretty much call it art pop. But, it's really good art pop! All of these beats are spacey and otherworldly, FKA twigs has a certain delayed timing in her vocal lines that makes her style of pop pretty unique imo. It's almost a genre in it's own- exclusive to her, even still. Preface hauntingly leads us in, twigs is very siren like and it gives us a fitting introduction to what to expect honestly. 'Preface' IS HEAVY and FREAKY in the best way. Probably my favorite on the album funnily enough. 'Lights On' is a strong highlight, even if the instrumental is a little too inconsistent pacing wise for my liking. Two Weeks is more consistent overall, and the production is super weighty yet again. 'Hours' is another hot and heavy track with strange production. That's the FKA twigs brand tho. She shows her vocal chops quite a bit on the rest of the album, while 'Numbers' is quite Bjorkish in nature. I'm a bit indifferent to the remanding tracks but they are fine twigs tracks. Her bag is for sure intimate, delicate, passionate pop music that moves at a totally different pace. Seriously otherworldly vocals, I wish she took it further in the last half of the album because the first half is incredibly strong.

meh... this artist has been compared to Tricky and Massive Attack... and i like those acts quite a bit... for me, she sounds a bit like Portishead too... but... unlike those aforementioned acts, this album is minus SONGS... are there some cool SOUNDS? yes... is it cool on headphones? yes... but would you put those phones on again and again? not me... when an album gets five stars from me, there is no doubt... i FEEL it... this is a talented singer... making some cool sounds... for that i give it three stars... and i'm being generous...

Pretty good vibe, nice background music. FKA twigs is always awesome but not someone I would come back to a lot.

I respect her musical vision and she's really great at singing but surprisingly this sad toned pop album was alright for me

Definitely one of the better recent R&B (electronic R&B? alt R&B) albums I've heard.

This was pretty good

interesting to listen to, enjoyed more than i thought i would

Not for me.

Just a little something off.

Liam Payne also has an album called LP1, so RIP. She dated Robert Pattinson so I knew she was a little weird. I like the vibe but her music is oddly sexual? Some good songs.

73% Best: Pendulum; Video Girl Must-Hear? No

First of all: the songs are actually pretty good, you could take them and easily set them in a traditional arrangement. They'd definitely work as R&B. But style and genre govern the songs to be taken apart and drenched into massive production aesthetics. So, sometimes it feels like ripped apart and too much of it. And yes, there are a lot of contemporaries, most worse than FKA twigs. I personally enjoy this one as an artistic statement more than a piece of cohesive music. But it's definitely not as bad as so many of the one and two stars on the list...

I love how experimental she is. I wish I could enjoy listening to her music more than I do. This is undeniably a good album, but I also undeniably could not pick any of the songs apart from each other. Her vocals are not quite there for me. The production is great, the lyrics are pretty good, and the writing is solid. People rave about her, but I just can’t figure out why. 3/5

It's not for me

Apparently there were 10 separate songs on this, but in the end it all just sounded like one long stream of avant-pop. I guess this serves the right mood at the right time, and it wasn’t bad to listen to per se. I’m just not really sure what else I can say since I don’t remember a thing about it.

I don’t have a lot to say about this one. Had this on and kinda forgot about it until it was about over. Fairly obvious what the rating is when that happens

Enjoyed Two Weeks, but didn’t connect with much else. Appreciate the creativity and her involvement in composition and production. Good, not great. 2.75/5

Flume could've made this a little more extra. I like the experimental sounds, don't really like the lyrics. She has a good voice and the instrumentals are also pretty I just found it a little boring still. I think Eusexua is much better. Liked that one way more.

Favorite Track: Two Weeks

I listened to it quite a few times!

My girl Twigs. A preface to her phemonenal Magdelane and often overshadowed, but so full of life and experimental sound.

It's compelling when FKA twigs decides to sing, her choice to hide it behind a wispy facade is... something? Just let it rip. I can see why people might dig this and then eventually move on.

Sometimes very nice. Sometimes very boring. I guess it all balances out.

Si ascolta, ma non mi rimane molto...

Erg interessant/coole muziekvideos. Niet heeeeell zeker wat ik er van vond tho

Not sure why I thought this would be straightforward pop, but it was not. I did like what it *was* quite a bit. 3.5

I remember really liking at this at the time, I still like a couple of tracks a lot.

Not a fan, too uniform, didn't like her voice but I did like the electronic effects

First listen

Meh techno nonsense

***An ok album

A mulher canta bem.

Enjoyable, but not something I’d ever reach for. Liked some of this when it first came out.

I was trapped again in a very old relationship. Again I was with a friend and she kept calling until I came home. She displayed instant violence and hostility. Both physical and verbal. I wanted to see the kids. They were still young. Sometimes in their rooms, sometimes in stra ge places around the house. One side was a construction site the other an ocean with the military operation happening. They were storming some beach anyway. Back in the house I was looking for both the kids and her boyfriend. Why was he not there anymore and where were the kids? Something about me was written on the wall but I couldn't read anything but the number 25th. I was not wanted there but was expected to be there.

Who? Haunting Electronic Avant-Pop - think of a more spacey version of Björk. I didn't think I would like the album, but, although I wouldn't buy it, it's not bad.

Didn’t I do it for you 🥺. 3.5

Enjoyed. Liked.

Not my favorite FKA Twigs album, but I'm glad she's on the list because she's a talented artist doing creative things. In hindsight this album feels a bit like she's still working her sound out.

Decent (different) pop

It's alright.

A high 3

I took a 5 star nap for most of the album.

3.5 I really liked twigs' album from earlier this year, but I had never heard anything else from her. This was good! She's definitely improved since though

Durchschnittsalte Trance- und Space Sounds. Kein Stück sticht überdurchschnittlich heraus.

I listened to this and I am not really sure what it is and I think I mostly hated it but I didn't skip through it and I think I might listen to it again.

Probably 3.5 stars, but a solid album.

it was cool, enjoyed it and would add some songs to my playlist

Very unique and very good. Not my favorite style, but very listenable.

Don't care for the opening two tracks. Two Weeks is a brilliant track - probably heard it in a movie/tv show/advertisement - but it's very, very solid. Doesn't redeem the remainder of the album though.

This is not for me, but I can’t pretend that it is just haphazardly slapped together like some other reviews here suggest. It is clearly for a different type of listener than me - but I can say the same about plenty of stuff that I listen to and other audiences. Will not listen again, but obviously intentional and guided by a vision. Sort of like art in a museum that might not fit my tastes.

Art pop. It's like an avant garde fashion show for your ears - interesting for a minute or two, and completely impractical for every day wear.

Some good songs, some of filler.

Decent enough, though slightly too experimental for our taste.

Idk why so many people on here hate on this. It’s not her best album, but it’s still good

3 stars

Zwevende zuurstokmuziek met beatjes en engelengezang en wat expliciet taalgebruik hier en daar. Het is weer eens wat anders, maar echt warm worden we er niet van. Het klinkt eerder alsof het in een koelcel is opgenomen.

Creative but not my music

Weird but decent. A bit Bjork-y and Portishead-y

Some good sounds and a good voice. No standouts and this one didn’t grab me. A 3.5 but probably the 3 side.

Some really good stuff in here, but not sure there's a full album's worth.

Solid album gives me alot of nostalgia some boring bits for me.tho

Couple of good songs but a bit boring

Right on the edge.

Thoughts before listening: I remember when this was making all of the best albums of the year lists (11 years ago now!!!). I believe this is some experimental, avant garde pop music. Probably won't be my favorite thing ever, but maybe I'll enjoy it. Review: Yeah this is minimalist blips and bloops that come together as pop/R&B. "Two Weeks" is a banger and the rest of the album is fine. Not something I'm ever going to gravitate toward, but I'm glad to hear it. 3-stars

It would be such an epic troll if after 38 minutes of glitchy beats and whispery vocals, the beat finally dropped and we ended on some warpping dubstep or thumping drum and bass. But no, it never really drops or kicks in or goes anywhere. Pleasant enough on the journey though I guess.

I really enjoyed the debut album from the xx when it came out in 2011. This album is a spiritual successor and the influence is undeniable. Two weeks was a standout song

Curious mix, would like to revisit to explore further, had good promise on early listen…

Slow tempo, Experimental pop/r&b with glitchy, layered electronic beats and a whispy vocal falsetto ruminating about sex and love (or lack thereof) and stuff. It’s got a hushed, somewhat muted sound - it’s really not in your face and benefits from an attentive listen. There’s plenty of cool stuff in here, some of it can blend together but I also found the back half to be stronger. Lots of moments I enjoy, but not a ton that are highly memorable.

i can see why this album was/is highly acclaimed, but it really wasn't for me. it's not really in a style of pop music that i particularly enjoy. i found it kind of dull and nothing really gripped me here. although i can see that it is of high quality, unfortunately, i didn't feel like it did much for me. sorry!

Cool. Probably too cool for me

Not great, not bad, it just is.

Feels like I’m walking into an art gallery and I’m not really sure what I’m looking at. I go to art galleries all of the time.

Pleasent enough. Other similar artists that do it better

música mais pop, mais lenta com uma batida mais pesada e bom vocal feminino; não sei se é a estética do álbum ou as músicas no geral, mas lembra Plastic Beach do Gorillaz (na verdade lembra a estética do Humanz do Gorillaz)

This was a good listen. Sort of an electronic R&B

Abstract pop with mercurial production and vocals. The drum programming was my favorite part. Hard for me to grab onto and had me wishing that 'Magdalene' was on this list instead.

This is an interesting album. I think I like the lyrics, but I need to focus on listening to them next time. Not my cup of tea really, but it is intriguing

The singing is too single-note and it feels repetitive, nevertheless it builds an otherworldly atmosphere and works well as background music for work. 3.2

i think its quite good, but i also dont like it as much as i thought i would. like it seems kind off my vibe??? but not really. fuck you

Enigma-tic.

three twigs don't make a nest

would be 5/5 as the soundtrack to metroid prime

not really for me, but there are interesting things going on. video girl was good. very spooky.

Liked this one! I was familiar with a few of the songs before, but hadn’t heard the album in full. It’s a nice atmosphere, and her vocals are beautiful, but most of the songs were a little underdeveloped for me and not all super memorable. Still, makes sense that this was a big deal 10 years ago, can see it really influencing the alt r&b genre. From what I know, she developed her songwriting a lot more on her next album Magdalena. Overall enjoyable and could see coming back to it. Could see bumping up to a 4 with repeat listens

Ambient music, a little too sparse for me, but I wouldn't call it boring.

This is of a genre I usually enjoy, but there isn't enough variety here. It felt like one 40-minute song. I listened to this twice, and I think the issue has less to do with the musical arrangements and more with her voice. Ethereal falsetto is nice in small doses - just not for an entire album. The electronic mix was decent, though. I was reminded of The Range at times; so, I'll give it a 3 for evoking some of that energy.

Solid, as good as Magdelena

3 y ayudándole

3.4 1x reminds me of modern bjork but not as good

Lots of cool shit. Also a lot of space.

Avant-pop. Bien, sin más. De hecho, gracias a ella he conocido a Kwamie Liv, que me gusta mucho más.

The sound is minimal but still feels busy. Straight up laptop Fruity Loops. The vocals are emotional, but the music doesn’t always match that energy. Some of it clicks, some doesn’t.

My first impression was a feeling of being impressed by the production quality. However by the end I felt like the songwriting was not very memorable or dynamic. But it was certainly at least pleasant throughout, so I guess it’s closer to 3 than 2 for me

The music itself was decent, the vocals were very hit or miss but at least it was unique in a good way.

fine but not for me

This is an interesting album - didn't know it at all, not sure that I like it enough to go back to, but was a good listen. Reviews on the site suggest that the followup, Magdalene, is better than this, so will be giving that a try. I'd like an album that has this kind of ethereal, floaty music in places alongside something with a bit more oomph - it almost gets there on Two Weeks, but needs a bit more energy elsewhere to really grab me. Definitely gets a 3, but definitely no more.

This was a very interesting album. LP1 is a brazen debut that exudes confidence and talent. Although it’s not thematically groundbreaking, it conveys a clear atmospheric vision that brilliantly moves from unsettling disquiet to sexual desire. FKA infuses evocative electronica with R&B vocals. It’s sets a mood and stays coherently there. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to LP1 but I find hard to place its worth in music history yet or more precisely I found myself wondering if the editor has rushed when including it among the best albums in history. It’s good and intriguing, but how does it rank among the greatest albums of all time? Tough question. This release still feels tentative to me, exploratory for good and perhaps not so good. As promising as it is, also feels like a first chapter into a journey that requires polishing and, for us, perspective. Despite that reservation, I’m certainly looking forward to listening to the rest of FKA twigs’ output. For the time being, I’d give LP1 a 7/10.

Decent background music for a action movie sex scene.

smooth high-pitched vocals over more energetic electronic background music. Not bad but nothing spectacular for me.

It’s fine.

I'm not sure who this is, but the first song sounds like something you might hear on a Bjork album, so I'll give it a go. This sounds pretty good. Not really something I would normally sit around listening to, but I couldn't see vibing this on a night drive through the city. I dig the music, for sure, so high marks on the production. I'm not sure how involved Twigs is in that process, but this is groovy. The vocals aren't super powerful, but it fits the vibe. I'll go 3 on this.

I went on a huge journey of feelings with this album. The first track, I'm just trying to suss out the lay of the land. What is this? Kind of weird. Pretty abstract. Second song, Lights On, I'm still trying to work out what I'm dealing with. Kind of sounding more r&b? The lyrics are talking about doing it with the lights on, so okay...it's like some kind of artsy slow jam? But it was the third track that brought the epiphany. I've heard this song before, but where? Oh, yes! That Burberry perfume commercial starring Adam Driver swimming with a horse. Who the hell could ever forget that!? I focus on the lyrics, which are both poetically hazy and straightforward in their mix of sex and drug imagery as she tries to convince someone to dump their girl and get with her instead. The next song, Hours, continues in this vein, with stripped down beats providing the backing for more sexual imagery. But like, a very specific type of sexual imagery. A drug-fueled sex fog to numb out in for "hours." It was at this point that I started to feel like I was in some kind of a horror movie, the part where you look around and notice a sinister element to everything surrounding you. The album continued with this theme for its entirety. I said before that I don't watch horror films. I don't need to seek out such material: my own anxiety and vivid imagination do a fine enough job for me. So I was getting a lot of imagery from this album and the imagery was mostly unsettling: a girl who passes out at a party then wakes up with a strange man on top of her, but she can't see his face in the black light. A porcelain doll that comes to life in the night. A drugged up succubus. A dissociating party girl. But also an angelic choir boy. There was extensive use of falsetto. The vocals were fragile, breathy, airy, like a chirping songbird or a trilling piccolo. Every yelp, moan, coo, and sigh in my ear painted a picture of feminine vulnerability and intimacy. It was sexy baby-voice layered over foreboding horror music. It was exploring the line between female vocalizations of pleasure and distress. For all its eerieness, it was produced well and was as intriguing as it was off-putting. It was distinctive and made me feel some type of way, after having heard several other albums here where I didn't have much to say about them, so I can appreciate the artistry in that. Having said all of that, I'm not sure what to rate this album. Probably a three or four on the basis of it being so different to other stuff I've heard and seeming to have a clear artistic vision. I'm actually curious if her later work is similar to this or if she branches out thematically and vocally.

Favorite Track: Pendulum

Lover her. Very atmospheric. Twigs debut. Lovely soundscape to relax to. Most songs great vibes but not massively memorable.

Some of it was a lot, but I respect what she’s trying to do here.

5/10 Too weird for me. Doesnt sound right for some reason but the lyrics are meaningful Favourite Song=Kicks Least Favourite Song=Video Girl

it would've been a 4 or 5 if it wasn't just about sex

I quite like two weeks which I already was familiar with. This album doesn't spark alot of joy for me, but it's interesting enough. Is it a 3 or a 4?

Interesting concept, I feel like she really captures a certain feeling. I didn't love the full sound, but some songs stood out. I would say a 4 for what she achieves but based on my personal enjoyment it's more of a 3/3.5

really interesting song production on these. I think the emotions on the entire album gets a little ambiguous to me at times, but I really like the overall style. Could definitely see myself revisiting this one!

I think this works and I liked it okay, but didn’t rate her lyrics. I’d like it as background music. Rating: 3

Pretty cool but not something I would ever really listen to again. DKA Twigs starts to sound repetitive after like three songs.

a little to much of the same sounds for me

Not my scene.

You can really hear how it influenced later 2010's and 2020's pop. Very interesting blend of electronica and alt pop. Does really fall off in the second half though. Doesn't really do enough to keep interest for me.

Delightfully weird! Singer has a pleasant voice. Not sure I would seek this out

I do enjoy experimental pop but this one didn’t do much for me. It sounds similar to a lot of good alternative pop of the past 5 years so credit to it for coming out before it. It still was engaging tho Rating: 3.2

This wasn't great, but I can see why some people may like it.

I enjoy the experimental nature and genre bending that Twigs brings to the table, but the rasp-singing can get grating after a while. I prefer her work in smaller doses, individual songs tend to blend together in a way that lessens their impact. Listened to: on a bus to Montreal. Favorite tracks: Video Girl, Kicks

Frequently Kinda Awesome: twigs's production twirls, even when songs don't fully bloom.

I didn’t like this as much as I was hoping I would. It was interesting to listen to and I appreciate the unique fusion of genres, but it didn’t really captivate me.

Not bad

The softest, most sensual sides of several genres converge for a sweet sweet album that is so unfortunately marred by a ridiculous tonal or production idea on nearly every song, sometimes enough to tear you out of the experience (wtf even happened on "Kicks"?)

I suppose I am ok with the idea of this album without quite being able to surrender to its rather ambivalent charm.

magdalene is better. LP1 is good, but yet forgettable art pop without distinct artistic voice (mostly reminds of grimes)

This was a pleasantly surprising electronic pop album. I felt it was a blend of bjork and chvrches. The production on this was really good. The use of the electronic sounds mixed well her the falsetto style of singing. Not sure how much I’d revisit it but this was good and enjoyable for the album of the day. 6.6/10

This is not starting off well. I'm beginning to think that either the critics who chose these albums were trying to show how cool and smart they are or I have bad taste. If this album was less interested in sounding weird and being "genre-bending" there's some parts I like. Her voice is lovely. It's getting better. She's like an R&B Annie Lennox with Kanye producing. Two Weeks is good, maybe I was rushing to judgment after one song and after being exposed to some truly terrible albums in this project. Her singing is amazing but the music is distracting sometimes. The songs almost barely hang together at some points. As soon as I think I'm starting to get it, the next song just feels off. Video Girl is sexy as hell though. Every song has something to like, but almost none of them are good through their whole length. I guess I like this. If I listen to it again, I feel like I might not. This is a confusing album.

It's Ok, but there was nothing memorable - for me.

It sounds kind of like music I've possibly heard in a mall in LA. But now at least I know who sings "Two Weeks" and have been educated. Not as bad as I expected, and I liked a few of the songs - "Numbers" and "Closer" with it's churchy hymn style. Not something I would listen to normally, but I didn't hate the experience.

I can see why some might like listening to this...but it's just not for me.

These are the albums that should be on the list, fresh and unique. I enjoyed a few songs but each one got to a point where it’s like it dropped the ball at some moment. Hard to describe but I’d wait for some crescendo or beat and it either didn’t come or it twisted into something else.

No way! Love FKA Twigs, this isn't her best album (that title ABSOLUTELY goes to Magdalene), but it's a great introduction to her catalog. I always thought "Water Me" was on here, but that was an EP before this. The big one I return to is "Two Weeks," but some other great songs on here too. This gets a strong 3.5 stars from me, with the acknowledgement that my version of this list almost definitely replaces this album with Magdalene. Favorite tracks: Two Weeks, Pendulum, Lights On, Give Up. Album art: Love it, very bold and striking. Excellent colors, extremely surreal image. To this day, I'm not sure if it's a picture or CGI of her fact, but I also don't want to know. I like being freaked out. 4/5

Lotta people I know are into this kind of thing. I have nothing bad to say about it, but it doesn't Speak to me at all. I prefer a more *staccato* layered soundscape.

great voice, interesting ideas, i’d probably listen again, wasn’t too bad

Baby portishead.

I get it, but it could've done with a decent beat.

Not bad at all. I had expected something much more esoteric. At some points the music reminded me of Protishead. However, the sound is a bit too ethereal for me. Interesting, but I don't have an urgent desire to listen to it again. 3/5

New to me. An interesting sound, will listen to more…

Certainly a specific vibe. Maybe being over 40 makes me not so into it. I could see if this came out in my 20s I would have known every song.

Pretty good. Very creative modern kinda trippy sad British pop. Songs all a bit samey, but good

Oho, Flow-festarin alkuillassa leijailevia säveliä, jotka ottavat kappaleiden muodon - ja koukkujen! Two Weeks herättää kunnioitusta.

Better than I thought it'd be

A disconcerting, unsettling, unnerving cross between Portishead and Bjork…but it’s RnB. Drug addled and stoned, heavy and dank…icy cold. Disturbing cover image….can’t work out if I hate this or love it. Probably deserves higher than I’m giving it today, but some of the production choices really annoy me (as in the bleeps and bloops are often overdone). ‘Numbers’ and ‘Give Up’ are the two standout tracks on here for me, because the balance between experimentation and the actual songs/music is at the right level. ‘Closer’ with its annoying chipmunk vocals run through a vocoder, or some sort of filter, (or whatever the fuck) is the low point. It’s that kind of album.

That was interesting and not bad. I'm not going to delete it right away and it will probably end up in the permanent collection

I remember this album coming out and all the buzz that was around it. I enjoyed this but was hoping for a bit more. It's a little less upbeat than I was expecting. Oh well. Decent listen.

Some pretty interesting effects, pretty impressive for a first album. Would be good with earbuds. Bjork, St. Vincent, FK twigs all have a thread running through them. There really wasn't a memorable tune.

Never listened to this before but had been meaning to. Kind of what I expected, decent album but not really my thing. Fav tracks: Two Weeks, Kicks, Lights On

Weird, and I feel like there’s better executions of the same ideas (see Blood Orange)

I remeber when this album was on everyone's lists for AOTY. Back then I just didn't get it. Upon relistening 10 years later I kinda get it now. Some beautiful vocals that are honestly underutilized and a largely cohesive album, just not one that hits for me.

It had a few good moments that I appreciated, but it is not something that I would seek out listening to again; not that it was unpleasant. I honestly don't know what genre of music this is.

Can't work out if this is genius or whether it falls into the same category that Alt J/the XX etc did - 2010s breathy alternative pop that sounds immensely deep but after 10 listens you realise it's actually quite shallow. Ill have this on rotation to check but it could go either way - I'll start off by going down the middle. This could very easily be a 2 or a 4 by next week.

Vet ikke om det er rart eller bra

Interesting 3/5

Generally a good album. Not my usual style of music but I mostly enjoyed it. The lyrics were good. My favorite song was Video Girl. It’s probably nothing I’ll come back to, but I can appreciate it

One of the few new albums on this list that I listened to it twice. At my first listen I had some things to do and I listened to it in the background. Since I didn't remember anything I listened to it once again. It's not a bad thing that I didn't remember it - it didn't distract me and it wasn't annoying either. In fact at my second listen I thought it's quite an intereseting avantgarde/pop/electro album. The production is really good. I don't think I loved it enough for a 4 but it's close to it; overall it was a good surprise.

Strange and extravagant. Went to the grimes school of music. Sometimes gets a bit lost in the crazy atmosphere of the album. I’m glad she’s since done more pop-focused projects, she’s got the chops for it! I think she deserves more mainstream recognition for the space she’s carved out for herself in contemporary music.

Generally pretty okay, with nice production but not super unique melodies. One song I think was called ‘Two Weeks’ I remember from an annoying ad, though, so there’s that.

This is a serious album and it shows a high degree of intelligence. There are real highs here and there is real innovation here. I don't love it, but I am impressed by it. The biggest challenge it doesn't overcome for me personally is that it's a female vocalist with R&B vibes. That formula has never been winning for me personally and has never had a home in my ears. Besides that, this one is very interesting, and worthy of praise.

Very much reminds me of Björk. Not necessarily the music, but rather the feeling, the avant-garde-ness. It’s thought provoking through its musical paradigm change. It’s also odd enough that I’m not so sure I enjoyed the music as I appreciated the feeling of listening to it if that makes sense.

Honestly, I love the name of the album and the artist more than the music. Not that it's difficult to listen to. It's rather pleasant, but there's not a lot to hang my hat on here. It's ethereal. I've used that word a lot.

Lush electronic soundscape. I am intrigued by the layered music and cool beats. Her waify voice goes well with the music, but because there really aren't any catchy melodies or driving music, its a bit hard to "get into it"... it seems more atmospheric and kind of a background music vibe. Worth listening to.

All sounded pretty generic

This was initially exciting, but ultimately it was 10 indistinguishable tracks

2.6 As a fan of electronic music, I appreciated some of the elements involved. Granular synths, glitchy off beat drums caught my ears for sure. Did not love the vocals on this album again. Just felt flat for the most part. 2.6 may even be a little generous but I did like the track ‘Two Weeks’ produced by the legend Clams Casino. Will probably never listen to the album again, but that’s alright I guess.

This album was pretty mid. I enjoyed listening to it, but it didn't do anything special. I was waiting for a song to bring the album home but it never came. Gave a nice lofi/R&B vibe to read to, but nothing much more than that. Favorite track was Give Up. Did not add to my Spotify library.

A couple of tracks in this was heading to ones ville but Two Weeks is a very good song, probably the second best song with the same title. And there was enough about the rest to ultimately drag it to a 3

Best Song: Kicks. This really felt like the culmination of all the best parts of the album: the strongest vocal performance and the most ambitious production. Worst Song: Closer. The only song on which I found the production annoying. Kind of sounded like Baby Yoshi was jumping on the track. Overall: Excellent production, and I thought the vocals were mostly interesting but I did start to fatigue on that how much of the vocals sat in that upper register.

this one is not for me, I absolutely prefer Magdalene, her album after this one, but here the experiments are not resonating with me. I want more songs, in a way that is kinda close to songwriting, that's why I think Lights On is a perfect song here, it experiments with sound over an expansive and great production while also giving you wonderful verses and a great hook

Not bad but not really my thing

Atmospheric, ethereal and all around pretty interesting listen. 3.5 stars

I think I gave this more of a cursory listen than it deserves but Two Weeks took me straight back to driving around in the Ashcroft truck with Triple J blaring. Ultimately a bit too atmospheric for me but definitely in the same universe as Alt J etc from that time.

Decent for background music.

Pretty ethereal and spare. 3 stars.

Good dance album, and I think I'd used a song on my workout playlist before.

Interesting but too one-noteish for me

This album is… interesting. I love how Twigs’ voice compliments the sparse instrumentals very well. This album just flows with a combination of the two, and the result is very intriguing. Certain songs on the album kind of overstimulate me, like “Numbers”, but the album as a cohesive whole is very minimalist. I appreciate the songwriting, too. I really like a lot of the layered electronic elements from this album, but a lot of the songs almost sound the same (if you take key and BPM factors into consideration). Overall, it’s a decent album. Would I listen to it again? Probably not. 3.5/5 Fav: “Video Girl”, “Give Up” Least Fav: “Numbers”

I wanted to like this more...

Meh. A little bit of a trippy sound, decent vocals. Not sure everything has to be high-pitched or like she's inhaling though. Got a little monotonous. I guess I didn't dislike it. More background music.

Interesting but nothing grabbed me tbh. I just plodded through my listen (2.5/5)

Only listened once. Sounds quite beautiful but in a soundscape avant garde sort of way, hard to get in to but even though it's not feels more like jazz.

Highly produced, very good sound quality, but it kinda felt like I was just on xanax the whole time

Intro and the first song on this album sounded very promising, I was actually visualising myself liking r'n'b for the first time, but well, it all turn to same old story after that. I do think that LP1 is a pretty original album, with unique style that I haven't heard before, but that didn't mean I would like to hear it at all. It was just a bit too much for my liking, music stuck on a loop, with vocalist that has constipation problems, or at least has an issue with use of words. I'll give it a 3, but only because I like those first two songs.

Interesting.

Started listening on my phone only, big mistake as couldn't hear the lush fuller bass sounds. This is a good album I think, but not really "my sort of thing". Interesting

Totally new to this artist; really enjoyed and was intrigued by the first couple of tracks and I do think it’s a decent album overall. The effect was lessened by the lack of variety in pace/delivery from track to track however, so what I thought at the start could have been close to a 9/10 ended up more like a 6.

Avant-pop. Bien, sin más. De hecho, gracias a ella he conocido a Kwamie Liv, que me gusta mucho más.

Nice kinda ethereal melancholy

Another discovery.

A bit strange but kinda vibey

Very similar vibes to Bjork but without the accent. The melodies have a strange ambience to them but are done in a way I enjoy. I can’t say exactly why I like this album as much as I do. But I do. Didn’t like it as much the second time I listened to it. 6/10

OK, but not my style.

A unique style of electro-pop, but it’s a difficult album to return to. Again, though, a very interesting style with no negative moments present

I remember when I first heard of FKA twigs being completely blown away by the tracks "Water Me" and "Two Weeks". I was going through a big exploration of new music at the time, after going through a period of a few years where I was only listening to stuff I already knew. The rest of this album never clicked as much with me, but it wasn't really like anything I had heard before at the time. Listening to it again now, I can hear clear influences on some acts that came later, so I would consider her a bit of a trailblazer in that regard. However, it's not an album I'd re-listen to often. I find the breathy vocals and repetitive lyrics a bit stale after a while. Musically though, it is very interesting throughout.

Production is fire, vocals are wild, songwriting is just kind of ok - she has better projects imo

Nice enough wintry R&B

This was an interesting and surprising pop album from an artist I did not know until this project. Overall, there were some tracks that stood out to me but more than half of them I did not enjoy. Quite unique pop music! Favorite Song(s): "Preface", "Lights On", "Two Weeks", "Closer"

I was delighted by Preface, just beautiful. Lights On also impressed. Then the album hits a plateau. It is pretty but doesn't feel like it goes anywhere. I don't know where I wanted it to do, but somewhere. Kicks seemed to be about to shrug off the restraint of the rest of the album and break loose at the end, but then didn't. In the end I mostly enjoyed LP1 but can't say I *needed* to hear it.

Love FKAs voice, love the production but the songs are missing something. It all sounds amazing but it’s all forgettable. Would defiantly search out more of her work.

Some good ones, I liked Two Weeks. Overall more performance art than music.

Really love the production - very forward thinking for its time, and the percussion especially is crisp af. Her voice is totally beautiful and impressive. That said, the overall vibe is pretty melancholy, and I didn't really hear anything that reached the heights of Two Weeks.

Different for sure.

At the beginning of 2014, Tahlia Barnett was 25 years old and only had two EPs to her name. She had already been named as an artist to watch, the future of music, the "Sound of 2014" by the BBC, Spotify and Billboard. Then, her first album "LP1" came along on 26th August. FKA Twigs had already arrived, but now she was glowing. "LP1" is an otherworldly, ethereal blend of trip-hop, R&B and pop-ballads, fizzing with a factory of electronic production. "Preface" sets up a convincing stall for the record's sound: delicate yet harsh, ornate yet blunt, centred around Twigs' layered vocals with glitchy synths and electronic experimentation. The central hook running through it: "I love another, and thus I hate myself", immediately wraps itself around the record's conceit: giving devotion, seeking intimacy, all while wrestling with insecurity and self-loathing. The first half hones in on intimacy and sexuality: "Lights On" is almost unbearably sensual, and "Two Weeks", the lead single, is as anthemic as things get, with its brooding refrain of "higher than a motherfucker, dreaming of you as my lover". Later, things become much more muted: "Video Girl" deals with Barnett's paranoia and insecurity over being forever recognised as a backing dancer in other videos (Jessie J, Kylie, Ed Sheeran) rather than the main event. And the hymnal "Closer" is possibly the most insular track, with the prettiest melody in the whole set. Throughout the whole album, Barnett's vocals - elastic, breathy, full of yearning and tenderness - are sublime. Meanwhile, everything around them is constantly shifting, changing, warping. Pitch shifted backing vocals, trap-influenced percussion driving forward, sub-bass blaring out, shrieking alarms. Take the ambient-leaning backing in "Hours", a skeletal beat dropping in and out with every couple of lines. Or "Numbers", where off-key synth-bells chime somewhere underneath the vocals, rippling waves of synth wash up in the spaces and a drum'n'bass style rhythm cuts in and out. When the chorus joins, Twigs stutters the vocal line, and the hyperventilating backing vocals sweep in, it's arresting. On first listen, my main issue with LP1 was that it seemed to be all style with little substance. Intricate as it sounds, and as incredible as Barnett's vocals are, the songs lurking beneath all the bells and whistles are fairly one-note and repetitive. I still feel this to an extent, and could have done with more variety in the moods and arrangements, but I'm also starting to appreciate that's not the point: there's a reason these songs aren't presented as ballads on acoustic guitar or piano. The electronics are a vital component of the overall sound, and the sonic space the record carves out for itself has endured into offshoots of avant-pop, trap and hyper-pop. I need to spend a lot more time with it before placing it any higher in my listings, but I do have a lot of admiration for this record and am intrigued to see where FKA Twigs goes next.

3.4/5 Honestly impressed this albumw as as good as it is. Don't typically like this style of uh trip hop? Not really sure what genre it would fit under but its a good listen. I couldn't listen to it every day and theres a handful of the songs that were just meh. But overall, I'm glad I came across this, i never would have.

This is just odd energy. Sometimes I like the weird stuff but this one is just too weird.

An interesting album. Kind of an heiress to the music of Prince?

Want to like this more than I do.

A unique sound but I definitely enjoyed it.

Nice but not really my thing

This makes me feel out of touch, but not in a way that makes me mad. Layered synths very nice to the touch, good sparse vocals, introspective themes: these are footholds that make sense to me, and they’re all well executed, and it’s nobody’s fault but my own that I’m 15-20 years too old.

Interesting, but so elliptical I feel like I need more time to digest it.

Weird and creative with some truly lovely moments. Would have liked to see some variety in Twigs' vocal, because it really wears thin after a while. On the whole, I'm surprised how unfocused this seems. Like it's really interesting, but it mostly ended up going nowhere. Fave Songs: Closer, Preface, Pendulum, Numbers, Give Up

Album won me over on the end. It was a hard start, but once you settle into the mood it's enjoyable. It stands on it's own and won't make it onto many playlists with multiple artists, but if you're in the mode for haunting, moody, music to focus with, this is the one.

3/5 liked it but not enough

Sounds mysterious and surreal. Reminds me of triphop, dubstep and Bjork. Not my taste, but I can understand why people like it. It's unique enough to be on the list. Favorite song: closer.

I feel maybe I'm too old to get it but I mostly liked it

6.5 Are these lo fi beats? Is this what I missed? Anyway, twigs sounds like she's edging for half the album. A very horny album. Albums designed especially for horny teens is nothing new, but this iteration is definitely different. Beats, but not really danceable. Filtered synth soundscapes, beeps and bloops, stops and starts. Interesting stuff. Experimental even. Feels gently futuristic. Probably a lot of sex with drugs involved have occurred to this album. Would not be surprised if this was the construction of a savvy producer, rather than the vision of twigs herself. But I haven't looked into it

Well I feel old, I thought FKA twigs was still 'new', not 10 years old! Recognise one year which I never knew was called Two Weeks. I guess this is artpop or avante garde? She clearly has a good voice, under the high pitched breathiness, but the lack of melody is not for me.

I found this record quite fascinating. I think this FKA twigs person is a very interesting artist and actually quite a good singer, although I'm not sure she really showed that off on this recording. I found the lyrics to be a bit... disturbing? unsettling? Ditto for the overall aesthetic. It seems very druggy and also very sexual. Also overall the music was too avant garde for me to really enjoy it, though I 100% see why people do.

interesting and different, ultimately not a great listen though, sneaks a 3 as it's different.

Okay. A little too much high soprano.
