Ahhh now
This is one of those albums, man. If every song was as good as the two singles off of it, it would be incredible. But it tends to dip down into generic territory a bunch and its given itself lots of room for generic songs. Overlong and underdone.
Pneumatic 1990s soul with a couple of decent tracks and a whole mess of filler. I can't even tell you if TLC are good singers are not, so freighted in studio flummery are their vocals. Things that did stand out - the rather steamy 'Let's Do It Again' and the searing yacht rock lead guitar in 'Red Light Special'. 'Waterfalls' is a genuinely lovely track, but it's not enough to elevate this album as a whole.
Guys, this is terrible. I'm only giving it one star because of the phone sex on the toilet gag on song number 12. The rest is just horny waterfalls.
Standouts: Creep, Diggin' on You, Waterfalls, Red Light Special, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Switch 3.5

I mean it's not that bad: waterfalls always bangs whenever it's played but other than that it was just bleh. Couldn't see myself listening to the album again and I don't think many people would. The epitome of saved by one song.
It's not the worst-sounding album on this list by miles. There have been enough completely unlistenable punk, reggae and rap albums vying for that position. But really, that's the only positive thing I have to say about it. This album is the epitome of why I'm not interested in radio-pop. There's nothing that is in any way interesting about this. The few times I paid any attention to the lyrics they sounded completely vapid.
They really hit the perfect balance of crazy sexy and cool on this one! I remember the singles off of this record and I feel like that's enough TLC for me!

Geinige relaxte wijvenmuziek uit de jaren negentig. Toen nauwelijks op gelet, maar best leuk om een keertje te draaien. Ik besef dat ik dit nu hetzelfde aantal sterren geef als de Chemische Broeders, maar dan hadden die maar wat minder in herhaling moeten vallen.
De dames lijken te denken een erg sexy product neer te zetten, terwijl 'sexy' wel mijn laatste associatie is... De opzet is aardig / toegankelijk. Eén van de luistergenoten zal het vast omschrijven als 'weinig attentiewaarde'. Het was me op de radio nooit opgevallen. Maar wat is dit raar afgemixt. De zang en rap is heel erg naar achter gedrukt en is wat vervormd cq. klinkt wat creepy. Is dit om te verstoppen dat ze wat betreft zang en rap eigenlijk een matige kwaliteit bieden?
Het beatje klinkt wel ok, al doet het me denken aan de mindere periode van Michael Jackson, met in the closet enzo. Ik heb verder eigenlijk bijzonder weinig met dit soort hiphop en soul van een meidengroepje. De rap is bijzonder matig en de zang is ook van het niveau likmevestje. Het was een van de best verkopende acts in die tijd, maar dat waren de Spice Girls ook. Er staan een paar aardige nummers op, maar als geheel is er echt geen doorkomen aan, halverwege afgezet, na Waterfalls. Verschrikkelijk.

Oh well... I'm not gonna deny it, I was about to dismiss this album as something that probably aged horribly before listening to it. But it turns out some aspects of said album are considerably fresher than what I had envisioned at first. What I liked the most is how the production and instrumentation on this thing were subtle and understated enough to elicit genuine interest from folks that are not necessarily part of TLC's target demographic. I thought the production values would have all the self-aggrandizing elements of 90s r'n'b that could have turned such pre-neosoul endeavors into a cheesefest from our current vantage point. Turns out the album didn't have those flaws at all. Actually, *CrazySexyCool* is prophetic in the way it mixed pure hip-hop elements into its mix (I wasn't bothered by the many interludes, for instance). If only its second side had been as effective as the first, it would clearly be an LP that would need to be included in a list of "essential" albums. Unfortunately, if you take the list of highlights from this thing, they're all crammed in its first part: "Creep", "Kick Your Game", "Diggin' On You", "Red Light Special"... And of course, there's smooth and catchy "Waterfalls". I like the tune well enough, even if there's something a bit odd in its chorus : the first lines soar like not many other r'n'b hits, but I think its conclusion is a little abrupt and even falls flat on its face. It's how the melody ends, for one thing. But it's also because that "moving too fast" line doesn't rhyme with anything else before, which is quite bizarre in my book. Do people notice these things? I do. And it's relatively grating to my ears. Maybe I'm splitting hair here--"Waterfalls" still deserves to be remembered--but I'm bringing this out because this particular flaw, suggesting last minute-changes, or "writing-in-comitees" shenanigans, is found in quite a few other tunes from the LP--ones less catchy that "Waterfalls" to boot. Other vocal lines *do* end up clumsily in *CrazySexyCool*. And lyrically, the mindset of an "emancipated" girl is explored well enough, but it's sometimes conveyed through obvious clichés and tired turns of phrases: "Let's make love all night, *yaddi yadda*". You probably know the drill by now. Not that there couldn't have been ways to explore those topics in a straightforward manner that could still be interesting on a lyrical viewpoint. Contrary to other reviewers in here, I have absolutely zero complaints about the topics addressed in the songs. Women expressing their lustful desires should not elicit any more eyebrow raising movements than if men express such topics, period. Funny how tons of albums where the latter case happens rarely trigger any negative mention from reviewers (here and elsewhere), and then when women do it, it becomes a problem. And kudos to that one reviewer saying he has a problem with TLC's lyrics, but that it's the same for men tackling those sex topics. At least that person has a cohesive take about the whole issue. But... yeah, well, all of this is interesting to an extent, but as I said before, I think the second part of the LP is pretty lackluster anyway, first in terms of catchiness, and also in its production values--clearly less stellar than on the first side. "Switch" is pretty good, even if it won't keep me up at night. But closer "Sumthing Wicked This Way Comes", with its fake alt-rock guitar riffs, is awkward as f*ck--and no amount of Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced" apparent samples on top of it will make me change my mind about how clumsy the whole thing sounds--nor would an early featuring of a very young Andre 3000 (of Outkast fame) as endearing as that detail is. As for the rest of the second side's tracks (a bland sugary ballad here, a dancefloor cut going through the motions there), it's not even worth discussing about. And yes, that probably includes the Prince-penned "If I Was A Girlfriend". It's an extraordinary song for sure, but here it's turned into a pretty unimaginative cover version that adds absolutely nothing to the original. Plus, TLC's trio have wonderful vocal skills, that goes without saying (you're not in that type of band through mere luck), yet even such skills can't make you forget a vocal performance by "The Artist/Love Symbol a.k.aThe Minneapolis Purple Diminutive Genius". And what a performance. By all means, listen to the original version if you haven't already. So yeah, CrazySexyCool is a mixed bag overall. I have some sympathy for part of what it does, but it probably won't be in my own list of keepers. Unless, miraculously, I find some use for it at the very last minute... 3/5 for the purposes of this list of "essential" albums, translating to a 8/10 grade for more general purposes (5+3). Just a solid, fun album front to back. Pulls a few insane guests (Andre 3000? Busta?). The TLC story is extremely sad, but the music is so fantastic. Favorite tracks: "Waterfalls", "Switch", "Diggin' On You"
Heavy, heavy innuendo, but the melodies were nice. Instrumentals were softer than I expected, which is a nice twist.

"CrazySexyCool" is the second album by American girl band TLC. TLC is Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. A decent description of the music is hip hop beats, funk, deep grooves, propulsion rhythms and smooth production. The lyrics are cited as coming-of-age with themes of sexuality, romance and youthful optimism. There were personal issues during the recording with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' struggles with alcoholism and her relationship with football player Andre Rison. Multiple producers were used in the album including Sean "Puffy" Combs. The album was widely acclaimed, hit #3 on the US charts and has sold over 15 million copies. A hip hop beat and siren-sounding synth open "Intro-lude." A Tribe Call Quest's Phife rapping with TLC whispering. The first single "Creep" has a synth melody and is smooth R&B. A hip hop beat with some scratching. Nice multiple vocals. About infidelity. The last single "Diggin' on You" is a pop ballad. It's slower with a guitar, synth and drum machine. String sounds. "Red Light Special" continues the R&B ballad vibe. Some more strings. This reminds me of more of a 80's R&B song. Steamy lust..yeah! A drum beat, a wah -wah guitar and horns build the slow groove in their great "Waterfalls." It's funky with great vocal harmonies and choruses. Definitely, one of the best songs of the 90's. It's written about the illegal drug trade, promiscuity and HIV/Aids. The last song "Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes" is a very good deep cut. Outkast's Andre 3000 starts rapping and he's coming for TLC. TLC answers with their confusion of love and how it's supposed to work. Groovy with the guitar. Great, soulful harmonization from everybody. Each of the four singles are bona-fined pop hits and great songs. They're sultry and sexy with great catchy choruses. The overall album is solid with high-end production. If you're looking to go back to the 90's for some good sounding R&B/pop, this would be it.

I did not hate it as much as I thought I would, at least the mixing felt pretty good. Most of it is just background noise, but some of the songs I did actually enjoy. I'm feeling sexy tonight.

I veered between hating this and almost liking a few songs, especially the last one. I just didn't like this stuff when I was at high school and it's hard to detach. But these obviously very talented ladies were a product of their time and social milieu. They made some good music. And said Sexy a lot.

This is probably the most 3 album i've heard yet on here. I love a nice 90s hip-hop/rnb beat, and there's some great ones on here especially near the start, but there's a lot that aged like milk. The interludes too are so unnecessary and i'll never understand why 90s albums were full of them. The lyrics are pretty straightforward, not really anything too deep, but the choruses and fun and they have great voices. Might come back to a couple songs off here but that's it really. Don't regret hearing it.
Captures the mid-90s r&b/hip hop infused style so well, probably the outstanding album of the genre in the decade. TLC were engaging, likeable, fun, talented and the producers were well chosen, creating memorable tracks consistently, avoiding the trap similar albums fall into, with dragging album cuts padding out an album. Summery vibe, upbeat, just an enjoyable album. RIP Left Eye.
Man, they were really proud of this album title. It was alright, but not much interested me here besides Waterfalls.

Good and Groovy and "Waterfalls" is an all time classic.
It's a smooth and almost elegant album, but drags on a bit after the hot start in the first half. TLC is more than just Waterfalls though, which is my real takeaway from this. Good work, but I won't be itching to come back to it anytime soon.
This started off so strong and lost me the second half, was feeling a 4 but it fell off.

I'm a big TLC fan, but I'm much more familiar with their album Fanmail. The album cover is awesome though, definitely a top one I've seen from the Jenny.
Highlights: "Kick Your Game," "Waterfalls," "Red Light Special," "Take Our Time" You just cannot talk about the teeny bopper superstars of the next ten years without this album. The direct influence on Britney Spears especially is undeniable. What's funny is the changes from late 80s pop are so subtle; there are relics of electropop lying around for sure, like the comical vocaloid portamento on "Diggin on You". Maybe their cover of Prince is telling. Maybe it's the envelope funk timbres and heavy tempos that gave it a fresh feel, or the heavy use of jazzy sampling that wouldn't feel out of place in ATCQ. That said, not even close to a masterpiece album. You can tell production was chaotic, and the strong sense of style doesn't prevent songs from dithering in cheap sleaze. Very uneven, but definitely a turning point for pop music.

I was really hoping this album would be a good one that I hadn't listened to before. This is hot trash surrounded by two absolute slappers. This group had so much good style and talent, how did the b sides suck so badly?

Pretty apt title tbh, sums the whole thing up very well. It's aggressively horny but in a way that doesn't come across as too leery. Interludes and length are a classic problems of albums of this era and style, and definitely impact my enjoyment. But otherwise its a great listen. As the name says, certainly sexy and cool. It's not 100% my thing but it's certainly one of the best R&B albums I've heard, and Waterfalls is a chill classic. Favourite: Waterfalls
totally not something I would ever have listened to at the time but give it 30 years and this is a pretty fun album for me.
Man do I hate this slimy R&B music, that this sold 14 million albums makes me wonder if whole humanity was abducted by music-hating aliens implanting "I Love TLS" cells in people's brains. 1 star is more than enough I think.

You can forgive me for forgetting how massively popular this record was in 1994: I was a 13 and obsessed with the alt-rock and grunge of the day. The teenage girls in my suburban New Jersey town? They loved this record. It was huge, but it wasn’t for me. Still isn’t, but this was kind of a nice nostalgic listen, I guess.

I understand all this has meant for pop music. I appreciate the influence this has had on the later up and coming music diva's, from Christina Aguilera to Ariane Grande. I understand we have a young Andre 3000 and Busta Rhymes on here. I understand how people have good feelings about this from their youth. I appreciate that people like nodding their heads on these easy going flowing beats. I get that people got laid on this with the sexy and smooth R&B. But for me, this is absolutely nothing. I disliked it when it first came out, and I dislike it even more now. Background dribble.
Has its moments, and production is a great timestamp, but the length is also an awful timestamp. Why tf did all these albums where so long?
It is wild that in the years since a bunch of TLCs music has become a comedy punch line. I’m thinking of Michael Keatons character in The Other Guys, Bill Murray singing to Drew Barrymore during the SNL 25th anniversary show. I don’t think any of it was malicious, just part of the legacy. I haven’t heard Waterfalls in a long time and I think it’s one of the top songs of the 90s. I might even rank it #2 after Smells Like Teen Spirit. This album is so incredibly horny as well hahahah

As someone who quite likes No Scrubs and Waterfalls I thought I’d always have time for a bit of TLC, but it turns out I don’t have this much time. Only small doses of sexy 90s R&B for me please, or I get booooorrrreeeed.
While I really enjoyed the two big hits on this album, I couldn't fully engage with the rest of the songs on here. I think that kind of music is just not for me. I think it was decent overall, but I'll stick to TLC's hits.
The singles are good, "Waterfalls" has wonderful production, but the album cuts I think are going to take me longer to crack into. Not my favorite album in this style, but it's all pretty good. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could.
This is not a music style I care for and I was too young to be the audience for it when it came out, so I have no nostalgia attached to it. They do the genre well, but it's just not for me
They are an iconic female R&B group and as far as the genre goes this is a very good album. That said, I was pretty bored of a lot of the same sound by the end. Still a good listen and Waterfalls is great.
They do their genre so well. Basically an all female version of Boyz II Men. I could have done without some of the voice interludes that I didn’t think added anything, but it’s smooth, rhythmic, and lyrical.

Effortlessly cool in a way that almost makes me mad. These girls are the best. Minus one star for the toilet flushing sound which is so gross. Glad I didn't have this on headphones.
Well constructed R&B songs with some indisputable bangers. I would say this music was constructed to be the background tunes for many a saucy night, but includes some deeper consciousness tracks to explore culture. Overall fun music, and well processed and mastered tracks. The rating simply reflects my perception of this genre. Not something i seek to play regularly.

This sucks... waterfalls isn't even that good
I didn't dislike this as much as I had suspected I would, but it did wear on me over the course of the album. It was a bit too horny for me. My favourite song was Diggin' On You.
Often emulated but never matched. Not usually on my playlist but I had fun revisiting this album.
The intro is sick. Followed by a real disappointment. But aside from "Creep", the album is pretty decent, I vibed to it.

This record has a LOT of cool cameos, and it definitely was produced well - it sounds pretty amazing. But this was definitely not my kind of music - I didn't really like music like this in the 90s and I feel the same about it now. My wife tells me I can't understand this because I was never a teenage girl 😬
Probably a big r&b album in its day, but not my kinda music. I do like the bass and percussion in these songs.
As a whole this is not for me but it’s really well executed and there was some excellent rapping on this. The Andre appearance and Waterfalls gets it to a light 4.
Was half expecting something like the black Spice Girls here. But to be honest there’s more to this record than meets the eye. Some interesting production, catchy choruses and biting humour make this a really fun listen. There’s no denying this record has dated a lot, but there’s a lot of merit in these songs. “Waterfalls” is the obvious classic, but “Kick Your Game” was another standout for me. Colour me surprised, this album was good.

Grooves for days. A hell of a lot of fun. Crazysexycool is more than a title, it’s an ideal state of being, and a unifying concept for the record. Most songs hit the mark in peeling back the layers of crazysexycoolism. Some of the lyrics leave something to be desired, and some of the songs don’t feel as essential as others. But this is a landmark album for hip-hop and R&B, and it still holds up.

Waterfalls is a monumental song. Not everything on the album can reach that peak, but the album is solid overall and as good as 90s new jack swing/R&B got. Extra points for the exceptional Prince cover.

This album was a fun change of pace and I had never heard the whole thing before today. It was a nice fusion of hip-hop and R&B, and "case of the Fake People" confirms my suspicion that it influenced Drake, one of the most important artists of the 2010s. The hits (Creep and Waterfalls) are really great, but there is filler (like the Busta Rhymes interlude) that I would have cut. I was thrilled by the surprise Andre 3000 feature on the last track. Hopefully some Outkast is on this list.

I could make an argument for Waterfalls to be on the top 1001 songs to listen to list, but this album isn’t good. I tried to give them some credit for time period. Like maybe they inspired Destiny’s Child and TLC is now somehow responsible for Beyoncé - but I think that’s a real stretch. My favorite tracks (outside of Waterfalls) were the ones that Busta and Andre were on.

Great R&B album, with a bit of hip hop, from the early 90s, contains a number of proper hit songs (Creep, Waterfall) but the rest of the material is very strong too. Clearly stands out from all the other R&B albums from that time.

I’m supposed to say that this album is Crazy, Sexy, and Cool right? That’s the low hanging fruit review to give. Waterfalls is an undeniable pop cultural phenomenon that I will always remember from my 90s youth. I’m not much of a fan otherwise though. Talented women, love their style, but I’m not interested in a full album. Respect for the great hits on here though.
Thought this would just be early '90s silliness but the vibe is very chill and cool, indeed. The "Girlfriend" Prince cover is a winner and "Waterfalls" barely cracks the top 5 on this record. Has held up well, for the most part, though a few jokes try to hard and don't land, for which an R&B record nearly three decades old can be forgiven.
4/5. Honestly not a bad song on here but some okay songs that could be removed for a nice tight album.
Best Song: Waterfalls. I fucking love this song. The hooks, the lyrics, that chorus. I legitimately think this is a perfect song. Worst Song: Case of the Fake People. This kind of diatribe against "fake people" feels really dated now. Overall: Some brilliant tracks on here, but the album is weighed down by the unnecessary and too-frequent interludes. Either expand them into full songs or leave them out, in my opinion.

Cool, funky and a great Listen.
A great time. Loved the sounds, lyrics were only ok but the singing was fantastic. Just the right length for this type of album and perfectly sequenced. Only other issue was most of the interludes were unnecessary, but it wasn't really a major issue. A great record
Man, horny 90s R&B is gotta be one of the worst genres, so in comparison, this is... better? Still not very good... Some of this album sounds good but then I actually listen to the lyrics and I start wondering how anyone can take this seriously, or at the very least not get uncomfortable, but most of the time the songs boil down to the same thing, slow beat, and lyrics about fucking at night. Nothing much else to see here. I've also now had to listen to two different versions of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" because of this website now, and that song wasn't really worth more than the one try, didn't really need a lesser cover. Can't decide between 1 and 2 star, but gonna lean towards 2 star for the sake of not seeming overly hateful.

This was a brilliant album in terms of consistency, but it was a little bit long for me, probably because I'm not super into this genre and have some difficulty connecting with it. Despite this, I did add multiple songs from this onto my playlist so I must be starting to get it :)
CrazySexyCool is a decent album, though 9am on a working weekday probably isn't the intended listening hour :D I remember bits of it from the 90s and it's really good in places, but quite once-paced and I'm fairly sure every album that has ever added skits and interludes could bin them all off and nobody would notice.
Sounds like a 2000s girl band with some edge, which isn't bad for a record from 1994. Chasing Waterfalls is the song that everyone will know, but the album as a whole has a fair bit more edge to it. Flits between R&B and hip hop, does both of them pretty well. 3/5, annoying amount of interludes that never really hit.
I remember this album well from when I was a teenager because my sister played it on repeat. Waterfalls was a jam back then, it was on every radio station constantly. This album is super thirsty in that the dominant topic of conversation is sex. The music is a good blend of R&B, pop, and 90's hip hop. I really like the harmonies that the three women can achieve. I found that the first half of this album was better than the second half. Favourite songs: Waterfalls, Red Light Special (great guitar solo in this porno groove sounding song), Switch, Diggin' On You, Kick Your Game, Creep Least favourite songs: Let's Do It Again, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Take Our Time, and all the Interludes throughout (Intro-lude, CrazySexyCool - Interlude, Intermission-lude, Sexy - Interlude, and Can I Get A Witness - Interlude). These frequent interludes throughout the album remind me of Lauryn Hill's album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and like that album, I find they distract from the overall flow of the record. 3/5
Waterfalls is a cool song with an attempt at generating imagery and carrying some kind of a positive message, although the images are sad and tragic. Much of the rest of this album borders on softcore porn. I’m not a fan of male singers explicitly getting into sex act descriptions, even when it’s someone as talented as Prince, and I’m just as put off by women doing it. When it’s done with humor and fun I can laugh along, but what TLC do sounds more like they hope people will listen to this music while going at it. It’s just too on the nose for me.
Favorite song: Waterfalls Feeling crazy, sexy, and cool. Not really my style of music. I still like the cover of Waterfalls by Death Cab for Cutie more.
Far more successful as an accomplished aeshetic than as a collection of outstanding songs. One outstanding song is better than none though. Plus a Prince cover. Plus Andre 3000.

Hilariously dated and way too long. Perhaps you can find some redeeming qualities in som well-produced beats, and 'Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes' was enjoyable, but it's just not enough for me. And can we just agree to drop it with pointless interludes? Thanks.
I was honestly surprised at how good the first half is. The interludes didn’t bother me, the productions and beats are killer and there’s a fair amount of bangers. Then the second half kicks in and I slowly lose interest. I don’t particularly care for their vocals when they rap and the songwriting is simply more boring. Just as I was about to almost defend the inclusion of interludes, “Sexy-Interlude” kicks in. Oh how I love me some potty humor; just what I needed.. Fuck you whoever thought of this. The last interlude is likewise about 2 minutes too long. Luckily André 3000 swoops in and saves the day on the awesome last song - this offers just enough redemption, along with the first class production on this whole thing, to deserve a 3.

I got the greatest compliment in 1994 while standing in line waiting to get in to a downtown bar in Lincoln, Nebraska. An attractive black woman looked at me with elevator eyes and said, "Damn, look at that ass. I bet you could fry an egg on that ass." I don't even know what that means. I never really thought I had much of an ass. But I love eggs, especially fried ones. I should have tried picking up that sassy woman. I bet she would have rocked my world, and you're goddamn right we would have fried eggs in the morning. Such was the mood in 1994. We were all as horny as this album. Hell, maybe this album is the reason we were all horny (it was literally playing everywhere, the thing is loaded with bangers, including a horny cover of a horny Prince song). Maybe I thought that fried egg loving black girl was out of my league. Maybe I was taking TLC's advice: I didn't go chasing waterfalls; I stuck with the easy putts. I remember taking a woman named Kimber to see The Specialist starring Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone. We went and had wild sex on her kitchen floor afterwards while "Digging on You" played on her stereo. I never saw her again. But "Digging on You" will always be our song.
I expected a rap/hip-hop album, but was pleasantly surprised. The songs mostly are R&B and genereally flow nicely in the background. Waterfalls is the obvisous standout. There is some rapping, but it's not as annoying as on many other albums. 3/5
I would have a hard time sticking with an album that was 56 minutes of hip-hop. Ditto an album that was 56 minutes of R&B. The variety is what makes this album special. Mixing in the hip-hop makes the R&B better and the R&B makes the hip-hop better. Other variety factors that keep it interesting and exciting are having a male and female rappers in the same song and having duets on the R&B segments. There are some traditional full on soul girl group songs such as Diggin' On You and Take our Time where they show how well they sing and harmonize. Also, society's declining ability to censor allows for much more provocative lyrics (eg Red Light Special) than those sung by the more famous soul girl groups from preceding decades. Finally, Waterfall is an excellent song. (RIP Left Eye)
While I was never a big fan of "R&B", I think that this trio, pumping out their hits in the genre's golden era is about as good as it gets. The three vocalists keep it fresh, as do the few dozen backup vocalists, plus the guitar and bass players who give it a Sly Stone/Isley Brothers vibe - without samples. My co-judge says it's catchy. I'm disappointed "No Scrubs" isn't on it but I'll listen to that one next!
I sometimes wonder what the authors of 1,001 were thinking with certain albums and this is one of them. Waterfalls is the big hit that everyone talks about but I found it to be your typical pop R&B song that did nothing for me... and then it got worse.
I knew I would enjoy this one! We own the CD from back in the day. Great album from top to bottom. I think my least favorite song was the biggest hit off the album, Waterfalls. But even my least favorite is a good song. Cover of Prince's, if I was your girlfriend, was bonus. Crazysexycool is the perfect name, for a great album. Have listened many times and will listen again. 4 out of 5
2 Ofc I knew of No Scrubs thanks to Weezer but the rest of this album didn’t really do it for me. It was pretty cool 90s hip hop for a while but I found myself getting very bored near the end. 4 This one surprised me. Don't get me wrong, No Scrubs and Waterfalls are bangers, but I never thought a 90s pop girl group album would be amongst my favorites so far... yet here we are. Just about every song on this album is a banger. Admittedly, it did start losing me a bit after Waterfalls, but it pulled me back in with Switch, and then finally with an absolute killer finale in Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes. While I don't think this could ever crack the status of being a "top album" for me, I would listen again in a heartbeat. I was familiar with TLC. Overall it was good and a lot of the songs were recognizable. The most surprising song was the cover of Prince's "If I was Your Girlfriend." I didn't know that they covered that song, it is a good cover. Not sure why they needed to keep saying the name of the album in multiple songs. The album was just under an hour and it felt a little long.
T-Boz, Left Eye and Chili demonstrate why they’re arguably the greatest girl group of the 90s. Covering subjects from unapologetic sexuality to bewilderment at the quickly-changing world of the new decade, it’s erotic, funny and brash all at once.

Surprised at how nostalgic this made me feel. This has a generally uplifting vibe that I really miss in more modern pop music. The beat production and sampling technology had reached a place where the hop influence could be incorporated into the songs very fluidly. I think it holds up really well. The Prince cover was a nice touch and the Andre 3000 appearance at the end made me turn my head to check and see if Spotify hadn't gone on shuffle.

I forgot I was listening to this while I was listening to this. I had a split second thought like "Damn, kinda quiet here. I should put some music on." and then I remembered this was playing. Not a fan at all. A chore to get through. "Waterfalls" was supposed to be the big hit but I didn't even register when the song started or ended.
In my opinion, there aren't many R&B/Hip-hop albums with unskippable tracks. This is certainly one of those unicorns. A must for any collection.

Damn I loved this album when it came out. It's hard to explain to someone today just how cool TLC was and what kind of place they occupied in pop culture. For representation's sake, this is my 145th album and only the SECOND all-female group beside the Go-Gos.

Surprisingly good. I was too young to appreciate this when it came out.
4.1 - I was expecting a bubblegum teeny record but I couldn't have been more wrong. This is full-on grownfolks music, i.e. people be fucking to this. I like the big hits, "Creep" and "Waterfalls" - terrific production on both songs. "Red Light Special", maybe my favorite track on the album, is sexy AF, especially with the bridge that leads to a guitar solo. I even like their cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend", though not as much as Prince's original. And as far as skits go, "Sexy-Interlude" is actually pretty hilarious.
A classic from high school, but the single subject matter (relationships / love / sex) gets old half way through.

It’s weird that the song everyone knows from this album (“Waterfalls”) knows a little antithetical to the album. The album itself felt more hip-hop than R&B. I have to wonder what would have happened if they had continued. Anyway, most of the songs were pretty good, even the interludes were enjoyable (probably because they were music and not skits). I would have liked to have known the guest vocals, that made it more hip-hop to me, having Busta Rhymes and whoever else there. Overall there were one or two songs I might say meh to, but a strong outing.
Wow, this was a bit of a letdown. I was expecting more. It sounds dated and like typical 90's R&B cheese (where they took all the 80's synth and fake instruments and tried to make it sound cooler). These ladies were definitely better than cheese but this album is average at best.

Sexy vibe, smooth and slick production. This was a really talented group of performers and this album was fire in ’94. Even I owned a copy, and I was never really into this kind of music. The hip hop underpinnings of these songs that made them sound so cool and fresh at the time make them sound somewhat dated now. The best songs ultimately are the ones that go more for straight R&B. The subject matter sometimes tends to be oversexed, which gets tiring. A little goes a long way with that sort of thing. As for the interludes, there are too many of them and they add nothing to the album. Rounded up to a 3 because when they’re good, TLC hits it out of the park. But there are more than a few skippable tracks. Fave Songs: Creep, Diggin' On You, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Waterfalls, Kick Your Game

Iconic album cover. I've definitely never listened all the way through but I like the TLC I've heard. Happy to give it a listen. It's a bit one dimensional in that it's definitely all about the singing. The backing tracks are just that, just the vaguest support to the vocals; indeed I occasionally wished the producer put the backing even further back. That said, the songs are smoooth, gorgeous, and drip with sexy confidence garnished with a cheeky wink. The interludes are a bit jarring and break up the flow; sexy-interlude in particular completely breaks the mood. That's probably the point, otherwise the album would be one big blur with a few standout moments. Actually, thinking about it more, that would be better. Overall the album gets into its zone and stays there. A good groove, enjoyable listen. 3 stars as is, 4 without the interludes. Waterfalls is, of course, a standout tune.

Creep, Red Light Special and Waterfalls are enjoyable. The other tracks lean way too heavily into the crazysexycool motif as if it is enough to make it great. It is pretty disposable, though Switch and Sumthin' Wicked pull the album out of it's nosedive towards the end.
