Reviews (page 6 of 8)
Loved this (ha) as a teenager when I discovered it by chance rather than recommendation. However, it's quite flaky in places now I'm 40 years older
The first song on this album had me stoked. The intro acoustic guitar was soooo lovely. But the rest of the album kind of fell flat. It didn’t leave a very big impression on me — it kinda sounded like generic 60s pop. I got some hints of The Monkees, but… not as good.
Folky hippy summer of love vibes
very 60’s sounding. Liked it.
Nothing on this album felt overly radio friendly, none of the songs felt like filler either. Not bad.
Decent feel
# 177 : Fingers crossed, please give me something good. Alas a 3 star mediocre record… Still not too bad. It made 280 on "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums" list, but for me it was average. Best Track : Live And Let Live
enjoyed this!
OK.
Perfectly serviceable 60s rock. If I still liked this genre, I think I would have really enjoyed this. Light and airy, but also strong and consistent. More of a 3.5
I did listen but honestly I can’t recall much of it so it can’t be that memorable, for better or worse
Had never heard this of album or group. Definitely has a 60’s vibe to it. Like the horns, some of the orchestrations and guitar. Overall not too bad.
favourite song: the red telephone not completely won over by this album. definitely had its moments tho
Not bad not too good.. worth listening, a bit plain, lyrics mmm
Music stuck in that era. Lyrics a little cheesy. Like the guitar and vocals Almost like a parody band of the 60s
I have not heard of this album before or the band. It wasn’t bad but none of the songs seemed to resonate with me in any way. I’d listen again because I don’t mind that sound of rock.
Mixed bag but the highs are pretty high. Track 2 sounds like emotional haircut toward the end
I'll admit, when I saw the "psychedelic" genre and didn't recognize the band name, I had pretty low expectations. But in actuality, Love's "Forever Changes" was a pretty nice surprise! As far as the psychedelic genre goes, it sounded mature and well done, and it wasn't just a rehash of other psychedelic groups. This album also throws a bit of a curve ball with the addition of some orchestra pop sounds. Really, the orchestral arrangements here are one of the standout points of this album. I can understand this album not being for everyone, but for those who enjoy psychedelic music, this is definitely a lesser-known gem! I'd put this higher than a 3, but I don't think it hits 4 territory for me.
It has some catchy sounds, and it’s definitely emblematic of the late 60s psychedelic genre. Nothing really hit me that hard though, so its one of the many “nice to have listened to, not not returning” albums on this list.
This is the most 3 album i’ve ever listened to. No songs were amazing. No songs were horrible. it’s just a standard 3. (2.5 but yeah)
Repetitive but some great tracks
A nice little album, but for me at least rather forgettable.
Interesting, and I enjoyed listening to it, but nothing really stood out to me. It just sounded very 60s.
again not a huge 60s lover but this gets a 3 for the opening tracj
meh - too slow for me, but i respect
Album was ok, nothing really stood out.
Eh it was ok overall.
3.5
I really wanted to love this but ultimately it only comes in at a 3. There was some cool stuff on here for sure and I caught myself bobbing my head and really enjoying a few moments, but I think it definitely didn't live up to the description in the book blurb. Faves: A House Is Not A Motel Maybe The People...
Pretty decent.
Great start then tapers off
This is a really great psychedelic rock album. Music was driven and had some great bass lines and added flair with the trumpets and such. I quite enjoyed this. Fav tracks: A House Is Not a Motel, Bummer in the Summer, Live and Let Live
Nice, cheesey and dated but nice
3.7/5
59/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Very strong 3. Some really nice guitar parts and cool string arrangements, but none of the songs moved me enough to warrant giving it a higher score.
#75. I don't hate it. It's good enough overall, but also I'm not suprised it faded away into history and I'd never heard of it before. 3/5
3.0 stars Favourite songs: - A House Is Not A Motel
man i have listened to this album probably half a dozen times over the years and i truly do not understand why people adore this album so much. i keep coming back because i clearly have to be missing something. this album just does nothing for me. it's even more mindboggling for me because i love so much adjacent music to this. i find myself wondering if i am listening to the same album as everyone else, the way people talk about it. i don't find the songwriting particularly compelling, i don't find the arrangements mind blowing, the vocals and harmonies are subpar to me. just a really middle of the road soft-psych record, that quite honestly, is a bit boring. i really have tried to give this album a shot, i just truly do not get why it is so acclaimed. i hate to use the word but... overrated.
Had expected not to like it, but it was rather enjoyable for psychedelic (not my favourite genre).
Pop Rock/Psych Rock - 1960s First song is dope Worth a revisit
Me gustó la sicodelia de este disco
This isn't just another flower-power relic, it’s a deceptively smooth blend of acoustic folk and baroque pop that masks a profound sense of disillusionment.
Best Song: Alone Again Or. A nice snappy, melodious start to the album. Worst Song: The Red Telephone. Here's where that wonky 60s experimentation rears its ugly head. Overall: I'm often annoyed by these 60 rock albums because they're typically filled with this kind of directionless experimentation, without any real sense of purpose or cohesion. Here at least the tracks seemed thoughtfully written. More entertaining than I expected.
There's no doubt which decade this is from.
The folk side of trippy rock from the 60s is pretty easy listening. Nothing outstanding but it was alright.
This is a strange album. Lots of genres kind of thrown together mid-song.
This album can be described as an old English rock or psychedelic rock mixed with strong Latin themes. While I haven't really heard anything like this album, it reminds me of some Hendrix licks with Beatles vocals and mariachi backing. This is a pretty unique album with some incredible sounds and very high praise. Whether this album can still be considered the best album can be disputed.
Was ok, probably 3/5
Kinda cool. Hippy music.
Pretty middling on the whole. Has some pretty good standout songs with great composition, but lots of pretty basic stuff as well
Weinig opvallende muziek.
On the folkier pastoral end of the 60s psych spectrum - acoustic guitar songs with strings, horns, harpsichord, etc embellishment. Lots of Major 7 chords and not much a pop sensibility in terms of catchy hooks gives it a floating unresolved kind of listless quality. Some songs have fairly complex compositions with intricate, verging into prog, elements. The few guitar solos are interesting takes on the genre - classic psych fuzz tone, but they never really take off - sticking to kind of stochastic blasts in a pentatonic box, adding rhythm and texture rather than a climax. Overall it has a relaxed cabin in the woods kind of a feel that's undercut by tension/anxiety from the strings - making it an ominous vaguely dystopian album. The main vocal sounds a bit falsetto and artificial - not sure why so many of these late 60s psych/folk bands went for that la la la kids song type singing, it sucks.
Pleasant, but uninspired album. 2.5/5
liked this more than I expected. Sounds like a number of 60's groups combined.
Psychedelic. Nice album.
I keep wanting this to be The Doors or The Moody Blues but it stays directly in the sucky middle of the two.
Quite mature but not brave enough for me
It’s alright.can barely remember it.Just boring 60s rock really.
It was ok. I accidentally listened to it 3 times because Spotify was on repeat. But I didn't turn it off so there's that
pretty ok
Enjoyed my two listens. 60’s psychedelic rock that was ok.
Fairly ephemeral 60s pop. Added a song to the liked playlist though.
Such a hopeful album. Full of love and promise. Got to play when I'm feeling happy.
kinda nice, didnt really have a stand out song
Pretty mediocre 60s music
Better than expected.
I’m not sure if I’ve come across this band before. I love the album artwork and it does have me intrigued. It being 60’s rock does bode fairly well based on past experience, so let’s give it a listen and find out! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Andmoreagain, Old Man This was the type of album that I enjoyed but can’t see myself listening again. It was fun and catchy at times, but there aren’t really any parts that have stayed with me after listening. The softer songs sounded nicer to me than the others. There were some nicer harmonies throughout and overall did have a pleasant sound - it just wasn’t enough to make me seek out more.
very 60's hippie music
The first couple of tunes actually sounded quite modern and I thought I might enjoy this. Then it all got very 60s - and not in a great way. The dubious use of steroids at the end was a particular issue. Overall this is OK. It's not worth a 2, but I'll never listen to it again.
Eh. It was OK.
This is a decent album. It has tinges of '70s rock music despite having been made during the peak of '60s folk and psychedelic phase, which already elevates it versus its contemporaries. Is it a fantastic album, though? Apart from a few tracks like A House is Not a Motel and Andmoreagain, it's still not amazing.
Another 60s hippie folk rock. Love Again is pretty cool
yay for excellent, light guitar work. classic rock that doesnt rock too hard. it almost is folksy. like that some latin rhythms pop up on a track. i enjoy this.
Before today, I'd never heard of Love. They are a psychadelic folk rock band from the 60's. They sound similar to Sgt. Pepper era Beatles or the Doors. I must admit that at the first of my listening session today I didn't really get what I was listening to. By the fourth song, however, I was starting to warm up to the sound. Apparently this album was made at the first of the bands experimentation with heroin and LSD. Sometimes when an artist is too strung out, I find the musical direction difficult to follow. The album art is really cool and trippy. Overall, a fairly good record. Nothing really jumped out at me, and I don't feel compelled to relisten any time soon. I wouldn't be opposed to listening again however. Perfectly average. Favourite songs: Live and Let Live, Alone Again Or, A House is Not a Motel, Bummer in the Summer, The Daily Planet, Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale Least favourite songs: The Red Telephone, Old Man 3/5
Perhaps I'm missing a lot of nuance here, but this sounds a lot like the Moody Blues to me. I don't think it's bad at all, but it doesn't sound unique to my ear. This could be because folk isn't really my genre and I have the ears of a cretin. Or it could be because a lot of late 60s folks sounds the same because they were all zonked out of their minds on amazing acid, bad pot, and dirty speed. Perhaps we'll never know 3/5
First 100 albums taught me to not expect much from albums with jojo torture dance type covers but this was not bad at all. Not very good either, and I would guess the lyrics are cringe, but I enjoyed it. It's chill
pretty comfy ngl 3.5/5
same review as the last Love album? I liked it I guess?
Favorite songs: “Alone Again Or”, “The Red Telephone”
Another one where I don't understand what I'm missing.
Pretty good but heard better albums on this list from the same genre
Pretty good for a band I never really heard of.
Decent, felt like American Beatles in terms of tone, very light sound
Instruments were great in this - lyrically, I questioned what I was listening to multiple times. 3/5
Basic. Sadly, very basic
Interesting branch on the whole 60s counterculture scene I hadn't encountered before. My appetite for the kind of musical theater/rock-operatic slant is fairly limited though.
I always like putting an artist/album/title to songs that you know for some reason like with Alone Again Or. Apart from that, this wasn't really anything to write home about for me. Can't imagine revisiting it, but it was fine.
Nice, not mind blowing, but nice. Will visit again.
This isn't bad at all but nothing really jumped out at me or grabbed my attention. 5/10
3.75
Folk rock sesentero. Ni fu ni fa.
Relaxing and a bit weird, in a good way.
i am whelmed
I've listen this album multiple times over the years to really understand it's appeal. Sure opening track is great, first few songs I really like the arrangements and vocals but somewhere in the middle it starts to drag and become tedious. It always seems like a longer album that it really is. It's good but not great.
Never heard this record before, but liked it. Enjoyed the acoustic guitar, string arrangements, and other instrumentation while still being a 60’s rock record.
Fine. Sounds of the time.
Started off strong but sort of trailed towards the end. It's fine. Not sure what I was supposed to get out of this that wasn't done by a lot of other albums on the list.
Nice, although not memorable.
This feels really close to being something I would quite enjoy, but something is missing for me. Just wasn't able to fully grab my attention. Still, not bad. It was a pleasant enough listen. My favourite song was Alone Again Or, I guess, but nothing really stood out to me.
An anthropological study of hippies.
Some really strong songs in first half but tails off hugely
I love the Spanish horns!!!
Alone again tonight or is nice
Love is one of those bands your favourite - or your parents' favourite - bands are always talking about in terms of influence (e.g. "The Red Telephone" is reminding me at times of 60s-era Who), but I definitely never heard them growing up, or thought I didn't ("Alone Again Or" and "Andmoreagain" are definitely familiar and nice songs). It's obviously an old album and sounds it. I can buy that this was a "you had to be there" album in terms of it being different/revolutionary, but today if you're listening to it for the first time...? Not sure - I probably heard it for the first time ~20 years ago and was "meh" about it then and put it aside, which wasn't fair at all. It's definitely better than that and even if it sounds a little "samey" as you get near the end I rather enjoy it now for what it is, rather than trying to put history on it, if that makes any sense. 6/10 3 stars.
3.5 There were some really good tracks!
Episode 6: Scott is deported from Belize and goes to New Jersey to attend a funeral of the grandmother of a girl he's coaxed into sleeping with him.
Didn't listen to this band before. It was ok. Not outstanding.
Decent psychedelic folk. I like the mariachi influences.
Nice album but after a while starts feeling like a stereotype 60s album that doesn't really standout next to other albums from the same period
Had heard the opener a few times before which is also the highlight. The rest is okay but does not stand out.
This is incredible. I take it back 3
kinda weird but overall good! there were a couple songs where i liked parts but didn’t like the whole thing. some really cool horn parts
A decent album in which one song stands way above the rest,
I've listened to this album a lot, but it's never really blown me away.
Felt kind of forgettable.
favorite tracks - a house is not a motel, maybe the people would be the times, live and let live, you set the scene least favorite tracks - the red telephone
Not really sure what would distinguish this from all the other 60s Psych that sounds exactly like this, but this type of music is fine.
Pretty good
It was interesting, a good example of late 60s psychedelic music. Horns and strings were interesting. Nothing really stood out to me. Maybe it was influential to later artists work, so it sounds similar to many things that came after it.
eh
The rest of the album couldn't quite match up to the awesome opening track, but pleasant enough nonetheless
I liked this album better than the last Love one we had (Da Capo). Artwork is pretty cool.
Enjoyed. Kinda like the Beatles.
Fine, but nothing really stood out.
This album begins with an absolutely beautiful tune. Even if you did not know who this song was by, it will have infiltrated your subconscious over the years somehow and will resonate with everyone at some point. My initial reaction was that the rest of the album could not live up to this standard. What it became was a hazy, psychedelic trip through melancholia. It was poignant, morbid, miserable poetry set to music. An early Smiths if you like. It also struck me that they sounded incredibly English. I was surprised that they were an American band because it sounded like a depressed, self-deprecating version of the Summer of Love. This is not a criticism. I’m English - I live in the grey shadows of sorrow and like my music peppered with pain. I wish I could give this a 3.5 but I’m far too mournful :)
I was all over the place listening to this album. I'd be impressed by the ambition in the songwriting, amused by the quaintness of it all, moved by the sincerity of the vocalists, embarrassed by ideas that didn't quite work, and bemused by how helplessly mired in 1967 this album is — all within the span of a song. This is music begging to be made into a mocumentary. I didn't exactly like it, but I appreciated it for all the reasons I've mentioned. It's a 3 star... I haven't discovered a new band I'm going to dig deeper into, but this is like a time capsule preserving something I knew existed but never really spent time exploring.
I can dig it.
Instrumentals are awesome during the peaks of the album. Vocals are nothing to write home about. I wish the middle of the album was as interesting as the beginning and end. Favorite track: You Set the Scene
Ok
Something about their thing just bothers me, I feel them trying to be clever and I get annoyed and it takes me out of the music. Interesting hearing "Live and Let Live" after getting used to Ty Segall's version. It's a pretty faithful cover as it turns out. I can even hear how Ty may have been influenced by the guitar playing, the style is very similar.
Nice folk-psych. Def get the appeal of this band but it’s overall not the most interesting listen for me, although there are definitely some interesting instrumental parts that are pretty ahead of their time.
Not the worst album in this compilation. I didn’t have Love really on my list of the must-listened-to of the sixties. But I have an idea how and why they made it to the 1001s. Nice to say hello again.
Nice but relatively generic. 3.5 stars
Thought it was a solid album. I particularly enjoyed Live and Let Live and You Set the Scene. The instrumentals are what shine in this album
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: I really did, it has a lot going for it and manages to capture so many different sounds in a simple form, definitely an artist and a record I will be coming back too Favourite song: Track 3 - Andmoreagain
10th October 2022 Listened in the day while working from home. Chilled evening watching house of the dragon. An interesting blend of folk and bluesy pop funk. Very original sound, quite unique.
3/11, 27%
Decent - first few songs were great (poppy with flamenco vibe) but too bogged down by hippy flower power stuff in the middle
6,6 Bit boring at times Very nice instrumentals
Starts out so strong with the opening track. Then falls back into the ubiquity of 70's sounding guitar-driven "rock" music – especially the vocal tone.
Enjoyable but a bit of a snooze fest. The first track starts off hopeful but doesn't keep my attention. Live And Let Live is interesting, You Set The Scene is also ok.
60s psychedelia I wasn't previously too familiar with, though I like the genre in general. I gave this three listens and it didn't massively take a hold on me. No stand out tracks, really. Fave track - "Bummer in the Summer", maybe, or "You Set the Scene"... The fact those are the last two tracks makes me think I zoned out for most of the middle part of the album...
A ratos instrumental. Divertido de escuchar
Love the style
Fun 60s rock album
Pretty chill album, but I wouldn't revisit it anytime soon.
interesting guitar play and some fun combinations with classical arrangements. some of it reminds of something the violent femmes might be based on tbh
I did not like this
Forever bangers
I had heard this album once before, a while back. A few of the tracks remind me a bit of the Moody Blues' album "Days of Future Past", but not in a good way. I guess being born in 70, the whole psychedelic movement kinda passed me by. I like Cream a lot, but songs. like "SWLABR" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" kinda make me pause because the lyrics are WAY too out there. Some of these are the same way, like "The Red Telephone." What was THAT all about? Sometimes lyrics are supposed to paint a picture, Jon Anderson does that a lot with Yes lyrics, but it's still ABOUT something. A lot of these songs feel too silly. The first track "Alone Again Or" has been covered by a lot of acts, and I had first heard the Damned's recording of it. The track stand out as being the best piece over the other songs on the album. The rest is very middling fare for me. One song does not make the entire album, in fact it's rather frustrating because you wish the rest of the album could be this good. Blue Oyster Cult's album Agents of Fortune is like that for me, too. The rest of the album does not do a lot for me, and then "Don't Fear The Reaper" comes on and you think "why can't the rest of the album be as good as this song?" So it's not that the album itself is BAD, it's just that the first song is really good, and the rest is just... fair. And that really is frustrating and drives the score down for me. So just listen to the first song, and move on from there.
Pretty standard 60s psych-rock sound. A couple of times the vocals didn't quite hit right. Mostly faded into the background but nice enough!
Easy to listen to but not overly exciting.
Bit more Psychedelic than some of the other generic 60s stuff. Nice.
so pretty, the guitar SLAPS & i love how original the lyrics are 😍
3.4 - “alone again” and “Bummer in the Summer” were the highlights for me.
I need more drugs for this one.
Love is not a British band, but this album was far more popular across the pond than it was in the states, so it still fits into the 1001’s bias towards Brit rock. I’m not sure why it was better-received in the UK, but I can tell you why it wasn’t a hit here. Because it’s ok, but it’s not great. And because band leader Arthur Lee refused to tour to support it. Lee’s story and career is very interesting though. There’s also a reference to Love being overshadowed stateside by label mates the Doors. Well yeah, because they’re not as good as the Doors. And you’re not going to change that dynamic through band in-fighting and not touring. According to Wikipedia, “the album saw the group embrace a subtler folk-oriented sound and orchestration.” On some songs that’s evident, but there’s also some harder psychedelic rock and even a Latin-influenced track. It’s not bad in total, but it’s certainly not the Doors.
You could sense the foreboding in the music as the sixties dream starts to dissolve and a darkness sets in- the idealists start to get real. There are some decent moments but not an album which stood out in any particular way.
Cute! Beatles-adjacent, folk-tinged and a little psychedelic. Maybe not a big fave of mine now, but probably would have been in 1967
I enjoyed this one. A fun blend of folk and psychedelia.
it's a great sounding album...and easy to listen to but sort of not quite in my re-visit range.
Will the real Love please stand up? This could not be more different than Da Capo, which is worthwhile in very different ways. This sounds like – and the chart history would seem to confirm – like a failed experiment, a band searching for an identity. The horns, strings and other flourishes provide several affecting (though perhaps excessively Donovan-esque) moments. Personally, I like the softer playing, but one never feels maximum impact. That Arthur Lee got a second life is satisfying (he deserved more recognition), but it’s possible this the recovery of Love’s reputation is a case of protesting too much against the initial obscurity. 3.5
Quite good for background
You could listen to this without knowing and say “aha 1967”.
Not bad
Another 60s album that’s sounds like all the others! I didn’t know one of my favorite Mariachi El Bronx songs is a cover (of the opening track). Nothing to hate here, but nothing that makes me understand why this album rather than PLENTY of other acts putting out interesting music. (This is basically the 60s version of the Ash album earlier… why?)
Glad I read the wiki as I never really understood this album name before. To be honest, I quite liked it. Didn't really lean too heavy in the psych and stayed on the right side of folksy for my tastes. I only really knew the first track before because I was in a band where our singer wrote a song that totally ripped off the chorus.
Better than the other one on this list!! Cover art 3/5
Pleasant enough.
At times its one of the most iconic sounds of its era. at others its diabolical poetry
Never heard of them before. Enjoyed it
I’d describe it as an interesting folk album with a rich sound. It was good and I’d say more like 3.75 out of 5.
Pièce préférée: Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale
aight
HIPPIES!!! It was kinda alright as an end of week wind down, not gonna be getting payed again although didn't hate it
Liked some of not, not all of it.
I respect it but not my type
Nem cheguei no final
The album has a wonderful baroque folk vibe, augmented with some beautiful strings and guitar work. I complained about Love's attempt at this style in my review of Da Capo, but they do it so much better on Forever Changes. They've lost a lot of that scattershot sound and come across as much more musically sophisticated and focused on this album. The album starts off strong with the gorgeous "Alone Again Or," but drags a bit in the second half and then wanders a little stylistically at the very end. They could have dropped a couple of songs and had a much better album. Fave Songs: Alone Again Or, A House is Not a Motel, The Red Telephone, Andmoreagain
Boring
bara mellow
Weird hippy shit
3.5 for sure.
Past the 1st song mediocre
3/5 meh?
Bom.
The cheesiest variety of ‘60s music, but I can’t say I don’t see the appeal. Nice horn parts. 6/10
6/10. Bummer in the Summer? I 'ardly know 'er! But yeah, this album started off with a couple of pretty good songs, and then it started to get monotonous. Last song also good though.
Sounded fine. Definitely wouldn’t complain if it was on but wouldn’t seek it out to listen to. 6/10
Good melodies. Shoddy songwriting.
Alone Again Or is a classic tune, the rest of the album is just ok
Interesting but not bad
Simple but chill
Always thought these guys were underrated. Opening track is a banger
Oh yeah, this album is nice and chill. I'm diggin this shit. Randy said this is one of this band's worse albums, so I definitely need to remember to check out more of their stuff, because I liked this album but didn't love it (haha get it cause the band name?).
3.5/5
3.5/5 stars Really lush arrangements and evocative of a specific time in history, but I found myself tuning out at times.
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Alone Again Or, A House Is Not A Motel, Andmoreagain, Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale, The Good Humor Man He Sees Everything Like This, You Set the Scene Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Decent psych rock that gets orchestral with its dread. Doin' a lil too much with the song titles but hey it's the 60s there are worse sins.
This was a perfectly fine psychedelic album. Each song tended to blend together, but it had a nice sound that wasn't too abstract but was still mellow and retained its identity as psychedelic
Boring
Me gustó.
This was an enjoyable listen and I recognized several songs as covered by others
Just couldn’t get into this. Which is odd because I recognise it’s good. Just not for me I guess.
Nice chill classic rock. Vibes of Zombies and Jefferson Airplane with a cleaner sound. Not totally struck by it after several listens, though.
Quite pleasant, reminds me of the Moody Blues. Very 'of its time' and that was over 50 years ago. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but in this case, it shows its age.
Didn't love or hate it. Liked it just fine. I do feel that if I listened more I would really get into it though. Feels like there is much missed on first listening.
Aahhh
OK, seemed a bit dated to me
Good album. Few songs really missed for me still quite enjoyable
If I wanted to be Gene Shalit, I'd tell you that I liked it, but didn't Love it. You don't exactly have to do any research to know that this album came from the Vietnam era—just listen to the lyrics or look at the cover—but I was hoping for something a little spicier out of my late 60s psychedelia. The album's perspective is probably the most interesting thing about it: weary of war and of hippies, it paints a refreshingly grounded (if a little morbid) picture, but while there's some primo usage of horns and strings throughout, it feels like it's missing a "Tomorrow Never Knows" standout where they dive headlong into the sound and see where it takes them. It felt like the Red Telephone was supposed to mark a turning point for the album, but the back half didn't fully deliver on that despite being superior to the preceding tracks. Still, even if I was left a little wanting, I enjoyed it more than most other records I've given this score, and hell, I might revisit this down the road because it feels like one that might grow on me. Key Tracks: The Red Telephone, Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale, You Set the Scene
Not bad I reckon
Musically it was decent. Lyrics strange at times.
Remastered version us so fucking big
This is one of those situations where I thought, 'oh hey cool I've never listened to these guys before, bring it on baby boys.' But as it turned out I strongly recognised many of the tracks and it got me smacking my lips and tapping my club foot. Just not my particular variety of sherry if we're all honest with each other.
Thought this might be a bit of sub-Beatles 60s dreck, but it turned out to have a voice all of its own. Who knew that other bands existed in them 60s?? I enjoyed it, so much so that I had to listen to it twice to be sure I had enjoyed it. There’s plenty of unexpected twists and turns. The one that sticks out is the semi-monastic chanting towards the end of The Red Telephone. Adventurous and surprising, and well worth its place.
There were a few songs I didn't mind, but not enough to add to my library. I actually like this genre of music, but again, I didn't find any songs that I loved. It was an enjoyable album. However, I don't ever see myself going out of my way to listening to this album again.
New band for me.
Classic
Dont hate it dont love it.
A very light 3. A couple of stand out tracks, the album opener was especially nice
This was pretty good. I like this era of music a lot but some of it wasn't as good as the opener.
This album was okay. I enjoyed parts of it, but it felt pretty bland after a while.
Weird but interesting. Like Fairport with a bit of Jethro Tull mixed in.
Very 1967.
ok for 1st listen
Very familiar with Alone Again Or, and always liked it. Was hoping "Always See Your Face" would be on this album. Pleasantly consistent, but I doubt I'll have an interest in listening to the entire album again. It's fine.
I enjoyed
Only the concert album was available on iTunes. Didn’t quite finish .
Groovy. I like the drums.
Definitely what hippies listened to, pretty chill 6/10
It's just one of those 60's albums, y'know? Sometimes you find something, sometimes you don't. As for ratings go, I like the voice of the singer as well as the instrumentation, even if I don't find it fancy. Maybe I would like a different project by Love more. Highlights: 1, 3, 6, and 9.
60s psych pop. Ok I guess
Not bad.
The first song is a favorite covered by the Damned. Really great song. First time hearing the whole album.
This was the first album where I didn't know anything about the band, or any of the tracks on the album. Through either the music or the lyrics it was quickly apparent that this album was from the late 60s or early 70s. As I listened to the first track, the lead singer reminded me of the lead singer from the Moody Blues. The horns on some of the tracks reminded me of early Chicago. There were tracks that I liked ("Alone Again Or", "The Daily Planet"). There were tracks that I didn't like so much ("Andmoreagain", "The Red Telephone"), and overall the album gets a 3. As if the album was making sure that I had a full experience, it finishes with "You Set the Scene", which is full of lyrics that had me asking '¿what?', and I don't understand. For example: "There's a private in my boat and he wears Pins instead of medals on his coat There's a chicken in my nest and she won't Lay until I've given her my best" ¿Do I want to know? At first glance, the rest of the lyrics weren't clearing anything up for me either.
Decent enough sandwich. Bright start and end but a little stodgy in the middle.

achei bom de ouvir
Enjoyed this more than the other Love album this week. Some really cool tracks
Pretty bland, but it's okay. Inoffensive.
Mellow, man
Mostly easy to listen to.
Forrest Gump
Didn't stand out.
Classic 60's acid casualty psych-folk. BT: Alone Again Or, A House is not a Motel, The Red Telephone
Me as hypothetical record label executive "The name is great. The kids are into peace and love right now. Love sells. But I don't hear a single." Unique instrumentation with some gypsy guitar and classical strings. Battle horns. Interesting chord changes. I get why it's acclaimed. But where are the hooks, man? B-
Is “Love” the most bold/hubris ridden band name? Naming your band after the biggest emotion, the one everyone sings about? I’d only heard, “Alone Again” and always liked it, but was pleasantly surprised by this album. This is like a combo of The Association and Herb Alpert or Burt Bacharach and Canned Heat, hippie pop gold. There are some pretty great/interesting things happening instrumentally, even some experimental moments (did I hear a like DJ scratch at the end of “good humor man?”). My critique is that I’m not a huge fan of the vocals, sort of underwhelming—which could be a stylistic choice—and the lyrics were at times bad. Ultimately, a pretty cool album. Solid B.
Love has always popped up on my Spotify playlists as a bit of a one hit wonder, so this is probably my first go at listening to a full album. It's alright, some great moments, some forgettable parts. Not something I'd actively seek out, but probably wouldn't hit "next" when it pops up.
This is some nice 60s psych pop, definitely going to be coming back to this one. I love how warm and rich the production is, the orchestration is nice.
Lieblingsnummer hier: Bummer In the Summer. Insgesamt: 2,8.

Rock suave, algo psicodélico
loved the start of this album, interest tapered near the end. Sounds like a lot of psych rock, but enjoyable! I'm curious if my lack of interest near the end is due to the fact that this style was so influential and I have been exposed to many imitations and tropes that reduce the value of the original in my brain? interesting range of styles and instrumentation found within, and cool to see an interracial band find success in the 60's in the genre.
Good sounds not than much special
Sort of folky psychedelic rock from the late 60s. It's one of those albums that I'm sure some people point to as "that was when music peaked" but it's just not my style at all.
It was good! Had a synthy vibe that predated its time for sure. Also, anytime a rock band uses brass, I'm a fan. Probably wont repeat listen though
Pretty darn good.
I wasnt into this at the start but the album really built for me. I liked Live and Let Live and Bummer in the Summer
Dreamscape 60's, a mostly light-hearted trip rock experience. Overall a great listen, but sometimes just feels like it's missing something I can't put my finger on. A lot of 60's music I feel is on this list, I'd say this ranks among others of the decades, somewhere in the middle of the pack. True feeling: 3.3/5
A couple great songs.
very 60's...not bad
Really enjoyed this. Will endeavour to listen to it again. Couple of songs I wasn't madly keen on red telephone for one.
Definitely of its time. Not really my taste, but I enjoyed all the positive vibes and grooves.
Meist meh…manchmal ganz reizvoll. Schlechte drei.
2.9
A lot of plaudits for the album but it sounds like a lot of things from that time. Maybe I didn't listen closely enough to appreciate but it was a bit forgettable for me.
Pretty good, hippy dippy stuff. Will listen with headphones for the psychedelic experience
Okay. Not very exciting classic rock.
Meget hippie agtigr album.
Interesting musical arrangements, great sweeping orchestral melodies, the lyrics and vocal stylings are a little too disjointed and distracting
lite intetsägande. drar inte åt något håll.
alone again or omiljenaaa
Very cool incorporation of electric guitar leads into largely acoustic rhythm guitars Blend of folk balladry and psych rock Nice, concise songwriting Warm but clear 60s production Last two songs are the best on the album
Surprisingly better than what I was expecting
Thought 3 songs were really good but
Solid and enjoyed the drumming on this project
Cool folksy classic rock
If this is your thing, I'm sure it's great. Most of the music blends together for me and was only vaguely interesting. I liked some moments here and there but for the most part I was bored by this record. I don't see myself revisiting. I could just be fatigued by this style of rock, but I am not sure when I would find myself enjoying it.
Favorite song: Alone Again Or
The compositional pieces and additional instrumentation elevate the music beyond what a lot of other albums were doing at the time. Unfortunately the tracks themselves just aren't super interesting so it was very middling.
fav songs: old man psychedelic, lushy, melancholic 40/100
meh
I expected 60's pop, but it was a little funkier/ dirtier than the name had me believe. I won't listen to this again.
