Just fine

Boring as fuck

This is #day126 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... the only Traffic I knew before listening to this album was track #3 on Tiesto's trance masterpiece, Just Be. Today's Traffic was rather OK, but this is where it ends for me. It's Beatles-esque, '60s folk rock that I'm not going to revisit soon if ever. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day127.

Some of these are just not worth listening to

Really beatlesque. Not bad

boring but not terrible

Too long and boring.

There are too many bland 60s rock albums on this list!

This sounds like a mash-up of every late-60s / early-70s band I have heard. A bit psychadelic, a bit pop, a bit prog rock. It just washed over me without leaving much impression. Most notable thing to me was that for a very American-sounding band, they are actually from Birmingham, UK.

Nobody likes traffic brooo

I just couldn't get into this. Feelin' Alright is good, but nothing else was memorable. Such a pity as the individuals should have been able to make something worthwhile, but maybe they were too young when they were Traffic

The off-key singing and meandering 60's exploration of self and drugs and society was boring and tiring, and I was glad when I finally reached the end. I expected to like it more, but with only one song (Feelin' Alright?) that had any punch to it, I don't see myself returning to this album.

Not bad, but also, not good. Dad rock for Elder Baby Boomers. It sounds like it was made in 1968 for all the centrist college students in frats who needed to act like hippies but didn’t want to stop being douchebags who used the aesthetic in order to convince the “free spirited” bohemian girls to come back to their dorm with them. It’s all over the place, and absolutely none of it stuck with me, but it was never so bad that I cared enough to change the dial. Traffic’s Traffic is almost proto-yacht rock — pristine and satanized psych-rock for preppy assholes who think cleanliness is next to godliness. Maybe that’s why it’s noteworthy? Otherwise, I see no justification for praising Traffic’s Traffic, and it certainly doesn’t make me excited to know they have another album on this list.

cars are nice but traffic is annoying

music for boomers who think they hate boomer music but are actually listening to boomer music

There are so many random 60's and 70's UK rock albums on this list, do we really need to listen to all of them? Wouldn't it be nicer if we got more variety of genres and a greater number o more recent releases? Instead we are recommended all of these cookie-cutter bluesy and/or folky psych rock records.

It's been many a long day since I heard, or heard of, anything by Traffic! It's very much of it's time & I'm afraid even such great musicians as Jim Capaldi & Steve Winwood don't stop it dating badly.

Pretty standard hippy rock to me. Not a bad thing but not great either. Like a softer Deep Purple. A bit more folky 5.6/10

has not impacted anything about my day

Was okay.

Traffic is one of those famous bands that I'd never heard. Now I know why, they are insipid. The best song on the album is Feeling Alright and its best feature is the Joe Cocker cover. Normally that isn't a criticism as Joe's covers are legendary. But in this case his version is many orders of magnitude better than the original. Were they smoking too much weed? This album has the oomph of a fly crawling across the desk on a stinking hot day....pass.

Sorry Mr. Winwood, sorry other Traffic members, but I was bored. Maybe some other time this would hit right, but today wasn't that time. I do like Feelin' Alright, but it will never fail to make me think of Friskies cat food. One of their commercials used a version of that song, and, only God knows why, but it's deeply ingrained in my childhood memories, like core memory shit. I hear that song and I immediately want to go find a cat to cuddle.

Kind of boring. Pretty generic. Some cool southern rock sounding guitar solos... Nothing really punches out at me and gives a wow factor. Mediocre at best.

Just fine with it, feels like I have heard it before. Will I listen to again: 1%

ayeee what is this

I was hoping to like this. I generally enjoy Traffic, and I know this album is highly regarded. But it's a little too rambling and unfocused for my tastes. I do like their original version of Feelin' Alright, but otherwise, this feels pretty inessential.

It's alright. Traffic's later albums, in my opinion, are much better.

probably would be a 1 if not for the harpsichord

Another day, another album that does not tingle anything in my body.

Okaish Folk Rock would Not relisten.

Regular album, some highlights but only a few.

Bem fácil de escutar e mais ainda de se esquecer.

Quite dull Dad rock, which even as a quite dull Dad was quite boring.

girl whatever

Totally and utterly meh.

It's so aggressively okay it's kinda boring.

60’s Dad rock is not my thing. 2/5

Not very good, imho

Eh, not for me.

My first two albums this week totally sucked, and this album is fine but boring, which by comparison makes it a GD masterpiece

Pretty boring folksy rock, with the occasional half-decent hendrixy vibe.

how many 60s albums that sound the same can you fit on to one list

La primera canción es muy buena, el resto muy fome.

There's nothing here that would make me want to listen to this again. There are a few moments but it's very forgettable overall.

dont like it really 2/5

This is a very OK album. Though a bit long given the lack of really cracking tunes. 'Medicated Goo' is pretty great. Seems less than essential, a very also-ran album given the competition at the time, and it's not particularly original either. It sounds great and Steve's voice is amazing as ever. Um. Yeah. Better stuff was yet to come from Steve Winwood.

Solid album… Didn’t think anything was over the top right although it to be fair, was kind of distracted by what I was doing while I was on.

Overall this is a good album but not one that I would listen to regularly. There a good mix of blues, folk and jazz influence on here. I prefer the tracks sung by Winwood over those sung by Mason.

I had no idea they did Feelin' Alright? originally. That being said, Joe Cocker is way better.

Overall pretty forgettable. Some interesting rock grooves with organ.

Remarkably good for a band I've literally never heard of before. What, me heap kindness on early country?

If boomer rock made a generic pysch rock album this would be it. Just as bland and inoffensive as it gets. 4/10.

It certainly is music!

Snore. Idk I’m bored by many many of these albums… it’s been a while since I’ve heard something cool. I hope the next one is a 5 and not something boring or something I already know about…

I'm just not a fan of this country-rock stuff, so it's hard to be objective. To me it just sounds like every other American jam band of the period. Yawn.

Hit & miss

Thought it was fine, not much else. Not sure it should be on the list.

Well, you have to get a dud every once in a while. I’ve never heard of Traffic before. I’ve definitely been in traffic before, but I’ve never listened to it. I got slightly disheartened when I saw this was yet another 60’s folk and psychedelic rock album. I just get so drained from these sometimes. And they take up so much of the list, so I get serious 60’s fatigue. This does little to aid that fatigue. Just another very simple and rather boring album that keeps me less than interested. There are some mildly interesting highlights on here, but it’s only short moments where I see potential peeking through. I like the usage of the flute on some songs, but the flute always sounds good with this kind of music. Jethro Tull proved that. I can also hear some of the blues influences that Led Zeppelin may have taken for their first two albums, but the influence is very minor. To me, some of these songs just sound like far less engaging Hendrix jams. Except Jimi released 3 albums before this that are way better. Electric Ladyland came out in the same month, so this is about as close to irrelevant in the psych rock space as you could get for the time. This does nothing to differentiate itself from every album that sounds the same. You would be best to avoid this. Rating: 4/10

This is absolutely a psychedelic rock album released in 1968, England. It's not bad or anything, but remember the term "landfill indie"? Well, this is landfill psych. This list made me realize that the most over-saturated genre in musical history is psychedelic rock and it's not even close. Like a strong 2/5 or a weak 3/5, depends how I'm feeling tomorrow.

Not a terrible standard pop 60's album, but goes on about 20 minutes too long and nothing really stood out to me. That said, Medicated Goo is very strong. Sounds like it's from a different album.

This has nothing on low spark or barley corn those are 4 and 3 star albums respectively. I feel like traffic are the rare case when the parts are greater than the whole. These songs are just o k only one release stands out... it's not the single

Probably incredibly forward thinking at the time and I like the idea but entirely forgettable for me.

This is the second Traffic record I've received, and that is two too many. There is nothing vital or essential about this at all. Some very inconsequential music.

Not my favourite

Good to have on I background but not something I would ever listen to willingly

There was one song that I recognized. The rest was just kind of there. It wasn't bad but wasn't good. I will round down.

Starts off with some decent guitar, forgets the instrument exists for about half the album, then picks back up with some notable licks. Feeling ho-hum on this one, maybe it’s my tastes/inclinations but most of the rock from this era feels homogeneous so anything that doesn’t punch above the noise is quickly forgotten

Meh. Not impressed. Blends in with a lot of other early psych rock. Not a pain to listen to, but I didn’t need to hear it. Also Joe Cocker’s version of Feelin Alright is better.

This is exactly the problem I have with late 60's early 70's music. This is the kind of music that makes me understand why when punk broke it was a revelation. This was the hardest for me to get through. So boring.

просто норм, если честно

Пожив в Европе, для меня это теперь очень плотно ассоциируется с наркотой

я ожидал полное говно, оказалось пободрее, но к концовке подзаебался

Late 60s rock/folk. Not bad, but kind of bland.

Boomer rock, couldn't be bothered to listen to all of it on YouTube

Traffic is a band that doesn't need to be on the list more than once. Sure they made some moves in the 60's and 70's, but nothing that felt particularly notable. If we're to compare them to their Blind Faith counterpart, Cream's music is far better. Also this is such an odd collection of songs. It gets occasionally jazzy at times and feels like a melting pot of ideas: haphazardly throwing in whatever influences the band scrounges up for the sake of making something more interesting. This doesn't always work.

Muutama hyvä biisi ja loput täyteskeidaa.

Hilpeetä, ei kovin jääny muuta mieleen

not for me

2.4 meh

Honestly I cant truly remember how I feel about this even though it was just yesterday… I think it was just happening while I was doing other things. I’m not mad about it or anything but just not interested.

Traffic seems a greatest-hits-only band. I'll say it: for the *most part* they as a group were not good songwriters. There's a sound there, and I'll claim mostly or even solely due to Steve Winwood, but most of these songs are either poorly or oddly constructed; not enough catchy riffs or hooks. Notable exception being the single "Feelin Alright" which honestly Joe Cocker's version is better. "No Time to Live" is more of the overall sound I was hoping for, and has some nice parts but is a decent microcosm of the band overall. Nothing here is bad, just not grabbing me in any way. More of a late-60s sound that is fine in the background but for active listening doesn't go anywhere. Would much rather hear the 12 minute "High Spark of Lowheeled Boys" any day. 4/10 2 stars

Boring boomer rock

I have listened to Traffic but not really anything from this album. Steve Winwood is a force! However, not loving everything on this album. First standout for me was "Don't Be Sad". I really like the organ in "Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring". "Feelin' Alright" is a great song, I cant believe I have not heard it before (at least not intentionally). The following song sounds like a radio ad from the 70s, fidelity and quality is a lot lower-piano was nice in it I guess but it is a definite skip. I also didnt really love 40,000 headmen but I did like the following track Cryin To Be Heard, which sounds more like a tight jam session (which I really liked with organ and sax and some great drum performances). Medicated Goo is a jam too. I feel that the highlights on this are great but doesnt do the band enough justice. Lots of skips on this one though - I prefer some of the other Traffic albums. Maybe this was more historically significant and the history impacted the overall appreciation of the album.

Second Traffic album in this list. I'd argue neither are vital.

du vieux rock, boute psy, gospel at one point ? rien de fou 5/10

boomer

Just not my jam

Starts off very promising, but quickly gets boring. The longer more psychedelic efforts are just rubbish. Some good bluesy rock though

this is maybe THE genre / style of music which i just cannot care about no matter how "good" it is. i just have no interest for it.

So boring

High quality recording. Epitome of boomer rock.

Average at best but what the hell's going on with 'vagabond virgin'???

I go down to the seafront in Weston-super-Mare sometimes and there's a pub garden with a microphone and amplifier set up the. Usually there's some guy playing covers to a backing track. Occasionally they're quite good, but more often than not there is someone playing dodgy covers, not up to the original and nothing to sing along to in the first place. There is usually a cluster of pensioners nearby who clearly just want to eat their basket of chips undisturbed by seagulls or guitarists, but are having a good moan about both. I bet Ken Bruce loves Traffic.

Turns out that even the middle of the road has a middle, this is it. 2.5

sorry, hate this white blues/fake soul tedium. could be any generic old dude wedding band. Joe Cocker sings it better. would rather listen to LA Traffic

"And the biggest 'yikes' of the year award goes to..." *drumroll* "Traffic, with Vagabond Virgin!!! Thank you for entering the competition, Traffic, you were almost good until the pedophilia."

There's only so mamyof these 70's bands I can listen to. Nicely crafted, I hear Bowie,The Doors, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, Creedance Clearwater Revival and so many other 70's influences in this. Not sure who influenced who, but it's all in here.

Another hippie crap

Decidedly average 60's/70's rock with a fucking organ in it. Sheesh.

Goed aan te horen, maar ook weinig spektakel!

Terrible? No. But boring. As in "white-men-playing-The-Blues(tm)-boring". 2/5

Aika perus landeproge 2/5

Alkoi ihan kivasti, mutta pidemmän päälle valui aika unholaan.

Underwhelming

Märkte att jag inte betygsatt denna och kom inte ihåg om jag lyssnat. Efter att ha hört en andra gång vet jag varför minnet svek..

Decent.

Again, we've had lots of albums like this in the 500 odd so far, and this doesn't really stand out. It's late 60s rock with a bit of blues influence thrown in, and a hint of psychedelia in places. Not an unpleasant listen, but not much to write home about, though I did enjoy Cryin' To Be Heard more than the rest. 2/5.

Eh was ok but not my taste.

Not bad, just didn't really feel this one. Has that 1960's sound of fuzzy mastering that is annoying to me.

A group of highly skilled musicians, but I'm not all that into their stuff.

Meh rock and roll to me. Nothing super interesting here.

pre-prog in its boring indulgence

A rather peculiar choice for an album to include here. That aside, this one did not age well.

Some gypsies’ blood flowing through her feet.

Nothing really stuck with me. It feels a bit like that bit in Spinal Tap where it shows their 60s careers? Like a mixture of rawk and fiddle di Dee whimsy. But less entertaining.

It was a fairly forgettable album to me.

A bunch of English dudes that make a Southern Rock album. It's fine, just seems unauthentic/contrived.

There were a few funky tracks that I enjoyed: "Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring," "Feelin' Alright?", and "Means to an End." Other than that, meh. Call it 2.5

Really not my thing.

Listened Before? N It's an okay album. More British 60's rock. Shrug. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Feelin' Alright

White British boomers.... Again. I am so sick of the 60's.

Folk 60s Rock. Not really doing much for me. A few names started with this group, but wasn't really grabbed by anything.

Some more good ol 60s rock. It's nice, I like it. Probably wouldn't revisit this album. Very 60s iconic rock. What fun times those must have been. I wonder if any of this stuff is ever played on the radio. Never heard this band before.

1968 again. Oh Christ it's more of the same garbage as always. How is this one period so overrepresented, yet has the least variety of any time period in the list? Every album is the same. This bored the fuck out of me, as expected. 2/5.

Made me want to go run around in traffic. Joe Cocker sort of took anything good here and made it his own, didn't he? Props to the late great Joe Cocker. A much better singer - and drunk - than Steve Winwood ever was.

Kind of a silly album

Like itching your anal warts until they bleed.

I know Steve Winwood is a bloody musical genius, but this sounds so dated and bland.

Stuck in traffic for 57 minutes and 27 seconds with music that traffics in bluesy British folk lightly tinged with psychedelia and jazz. Stuff this friendly makes me want to nope out faster than any noise monstrosity. I guess the sweetness and light is a little too sweet — like some kind of medicated goo. It's not for me, but maybe it's for you.

You could listen to this - OR listen to the Fairport Convention who did a way better version of all this.

Traffic, yes, I'm familiar with them, but mostly with their later albums and through Steve Winwood. This '1968 album Traffic' was completely unknown to me, and I must say, I haven't missed anything. I find the album uninspired and disjointed. It's as if the musicians were playing past each other; I can't put it any other way. I didn't like any of the songs. It's an album I'll quickly forget, and I see no reason why I should ever listen to it again.

refuses to die

I was enjoying this at least musically until we got to ‘Vagabond Virgin’ - what the fuck was that? My god.

This really was incredibly boring, and a perfect example of bands trying on the popular sounds of the time hoping to be relevant. First off: there's clearly two guys writing two different kinds of songs, and they really don't mesh very well. Second: the songs aren't very original, interesting, or vital. Third: the mixing is awful, it's like their sound guys just discovered how stereo works and are fucking around with what they can do. The back-and-forth panning on "Pearly Queen" is so annoying, I almost didn't want to finish the record. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the br*tish are over-represented on this list and most of it falls into this bucket of "try-hard, wanky group of scrawny white dudes trying to be the next Beatles by ripping off of whatever is happening in America." Another album I didn't need to hear before I die.

That guys hair is crazy

not my style this sucks

Too sixtie sond for me

2/10 - another generic 60s/70s album which has somehow made the list

It wasn't really suitable for me.

Lowkey plodding.

If this were really traffic, it would be the kind at 5:00 in the afternoon, when all you want to do is get home, but cars are backed up on the freeway, and everyone's angry, and someone keeps honking their horn, and it's too hot, and you're hungry, and there's nothing good on the radio, and a mosquito is buzzing around in your car, and you're almost out of gas, but you also have gas yourself...in other words, Traffic sucks.

Rating: 0.1 I need Traffic to play in traffic.

Never loved Traffic. These guys were huge in Canada but by the time I heard this record in full the mid-70s, the ship had sailed. Psychedelic folk rock was an anachronism. Feelin Alright was already on an oldies station. The band was so popular in Canada I actually thought Jim Capaldi was Canadian. Steve Winwood was not the new wave Steve at this point but it wasn’t the vocals that are the problem on this Traffic’s second LP. It’s just that it’s remarkably uninteresting both lyrically and musically. See Vagabond Virgin. Medicated Goo and all the other so called songs on the record. I will say that in order to end up with this pile of crap a massive amount of drugs had to have been consumed. No one gets laid. Seriously, this was a difficult listen. My dog enjoyed the record though. Licked his nuts for 57 minutes. He is old and slightly deaf. My take: This record was included in the list to show that when enough people do drugs they will create a work so intensely boring and unpleasant that some people will think it’s genius. … and in all likelihood vote Republican.

This is blandest distillation of late 60’s psych pop (low emphasis on the psych) imaginable. When I listen to this, I feel like I don’t know exactly who this is, but I know exactly when it was recorded. Any artistic endeavor that is more closely tied to the years it came from than the creators involved is pretty unremarkable. I read a bit about them and discovered Steve Winwood is the front man which makes a lot of sense. His work in the 80s sounds more like the 80s than a vision of an artist. I doubt I would ever listen to this again. I would rather listen to the better acts that they were copying.

Some nice guitar solos. Blues/rock, laid back groovy bops. ended up just sampling the second half, medicated goo is one of the better ones but overall eh.

An album that sounds great but isnt very enjoyable. The instruments really pop - I love the thumping of the drums, and the addition of organ, harmonica, horns, and especially flute really gives this a lot of life. But the songwriting is full of moments where the pace of the song changes suddenly, which can be jarring. And then a harmonica or organ will be thrown in, but not in a way that really matches the rhythm. It reminds me a jazz album a bit. "Feelin' Alright?" avoids this and is the most immediately enjoyable song. Then again, it also sounds like a generic 60's rock song, so I guess you have to pick your poison there. The worst thing about this is the lyrics, they feel like they were written because they had to be and are full of forced rhymes and psychedelic rock cliches. Key examples are the goofy opener and the sun/fun rhyme on "Pearly Queen."

Sucks.

Bad and boring

I love a good classic rock album, but this one would not make my Top 100 in this genre.

generic and uninspired. it was a tough listen.

this was not my vibe today. to be fair i split the listening into 3 sessions, so it wasn't one playthru... i guess that kinda shows how uninterested i was. Notes: i am bored i want it to be over is this beatles? i guess this could be my mood, on another day 1 (my first low rating!). :)

The definition of 'meh'

Late sixties was dreary

Das nervt sogar einen steinalten Boomer wie mich. Ab in die Versenkung.

I'd never heard this record. My wife said she recognized one track. I thought this was rather forgettable boomer trash.

Medicated goo slaps. 1 star otherwise

60’s

All the worst instincts of 60s rock captured in one album. Tedious 1.5*

Honestly, music wasn't too bad but that song written about the 13 year old really fucked it all up, instant 1/5 and should not have even been considered for this list - didn't finish after that one

A notably long album for the time. And you feel it. SHEESH. Boring and then when it's not boring, like Vagabond Virgin... yeeeewwwww

This fucking sucks!

Disliked.

The Band but totally forgettable?

Picture that shrugging emoticon. That.

Die Gruppe löste sich nach diesem erst zweiten Album auf, was nach dem Hören verständlich wird. Mir gefällt das Debütalbum sehr gut, vielversprechende Ansätze, die sich mit diesem Album leider nicht mehr erfüllten.

I don’t like Traffic

It sounded like a Hendrix jam on one or two of those tracks, but it wasn’t Crosstown Traffic. It was only Traffic. Too bad.

Sorry, Traffic. There's a reason I've probably never heard of you.

Boring

Pub band

I love lately sixties music but this is dull and at times embarrassing. It really bugs me that these selctions come from the fucking BBC history of rock or some bullshit like that. Anyway, any of the below (not on this list) from roughly the same period are far superior or just a damn sight more interesting from the UK underground. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Caravan (both self titled), East of Eden (Mercator Projected).

Looking back I never really enjoyed confontration and always tried to avoid it. But ive always had this little voice in my head which is intransigent and demands that truth be told, unfortunatly it is a small voice.

Not my cup of tea.
