Reviews (page 7 of 7)

- There are some creative moments on here, particularly some quirky guitar slides and some bizarre lyrics. But this all honestly sounds like the discount version of a half-dozen more cohesive bands, such as the Beatles, Rush, etc. - I enjoyed the goofiness of "Hotel" but it does not gel with the rest of the album. Also really liked the opening moments of "Clockwork Creep," but my interest does not hold up for the whole track.

Interesante

Stupid. Songs sound like if Paul McCartney wrote the music for Spinal Tap, or a bad Queen knockoff. Waste of time.

Fun fact about 10cc's name – it represents a volume of semen slightly above the average amount ejaculated, thus emphasising potency or prowess. This album is similarly quirky. Undecided.

Maso. Temas medio en joda.

10cc’s Sheet Music feels like a huge joke. The theme of the album is funniness, and just random vibes. I liked it at first on the first song, The Wall Street Shuffle, and on Silly Love, because these two actually had some cohesion. On everything else though, It just didn’t sound intentional or noteworthy. All in all, Sheet Music is a bad album. Best Song: The Wall Street Shuffle Worst Song: The Sacro Illiac

I had previously heard of the artist but knew none of their material. This album is a but silly, and I don't really mean that in a good way. I am ok with a silly song or two to cleanse the palate in a particularly heavy album, but this really isn't that. The whole album is like that, and I found it to get old after a few songs. Was ready for it to be over by the halfway point.

Starts off well, but got bored pretty quickly. Enjoyed spotting the J Dilla samples in Worst Band In The World.

This got boring quick. I was overwhelmed by the general lack of any sort of hook, just noises, some of them pleasant, but nothing catchy. It felt a bit progressive in parts, then more poppy by the end. Nothing special and I can't see any reason for this to be on the list. Two stars for a drab experience.

Too convoluted, not funny enough.

Mediocre at best, made me feel like listening to a musical

Such a strange album. Sounds like a Avant Garde Queen. 2/5

I have no idea what this was (it's all over the place) and I don't want to hear it again.

The songs felt all over the place, couldn't get into it.

Funny but not “good”

Some interesting sounds but probably won't be revisiting.

I did not enjoy this but I couldn't stop listening. It was manic and weird and unpredictable.

Best song: Hotel Vibes: corny, experimental, lyrically stuffed pop Themes: anti-greed, topical, hollywood, satirical

THE WORST BAND IN THE WORLD IS SAMPLED IN A JDILLA SONG OHHHHH

Not my cup of tea

Had never heard of this band. Some interesting stuff on this one. Overall not a must listen though.

Ya ever hear an album and it has like every idea all going on at once and it never quite coalesces? That is precisely what’s going on her in spades. It’s progressive rock that’s progressing too fast. From one place to another with not even time to smell the roses.

Ok, so not what I was expecting from my experience with 10cc. I love a bunch of their songs, but this was a while different vibe. The early tracks were cool and kept me interested, but it faded out early and just fizzled. As an album this is a fail for me.

Pleasant 2/5

i mean, it's not terrible, i guess

Back in the days of Winamp and local MP3 files, 10CC was the first artist that would play on my playlist every time I opened it. I had 6 or 7 of their hits in my collection and grew quite attached to them over the years. Unfortunately, none of those songs I loved appeared on Sheet Music, which I thought was weak and largely lacklustre.

It was dull and repetitive.

A few interesting bits, but mostly just kinda dumb.

Had high expectations but didn't really spark any joy

Songs were OK

"mom, can we have queen?" Mom: "we have queen at home" Queen at home

This album is ridiculous, a bit all over the place. I honestly just kind of wished I was listening to Wings.

To many colours

"The Wall Street Shuffle" was okay and there were a few moments in songs throughout the album that I thought were not bad but overall, this was not my thing. I didn't outright hate it so I gave it 2/5 but I likely won't go back.

A little to art rock for me. Very pretentious as well. Didn't connect to me on any level. Which is a shame as I like "I'm not in love" and "Dreadlock Holiday". Feels like the UK steely Dan. F.Song : The Wall Street Shuffle

The Wall Street Shuffle- Ok, on the whole I liked this I guess 👍 The Worst Band In The World- They said it, not me! Hotel- Me when I’m being abducted by aliens and then I have to perform a Beach Boys tribute act so they don’t kill me Old Wild Men- I like the instrumental, the vocals are a bit TOO earnest Clockwork Creep- this must be what adhd feels like 👍 Silly Love- just embrace that maximalism 👍 I have to applaud the audacity, but still, maybe take a couple things out next time 2/5

The opening "The Wall Street Shuffle" had a great opening riff and generally a cool song so I had high expectations going it to the rest. The rest of the album failed to deliver though. The songs are all over the place with a mix of progressive rock and soft rock, not a great fan of either genre though I dabble here and there. Wasn't too impressed.

Sounds like a blend of 70s soft-rock and progrock; neither are styles I enjoy.

Has that 70s feel but just never did much for me.

Not sure why this is on the list.

Kinda tame but props to them for making every song sound different and not just blend in together.

The start of every song is good, but then...

Yet another "British bias" album. This had practically no success outside of England and does not belong on this list. 10cc had some good songs, but the "hits" (only in England) on this album are nothing special.

Almost felt like a parody rock album/ many comedic or self representory lines. Not bad in the background but lyrics felt weird to listen to properly. 2.3/5.

I know some other 10cc songs, but none of these. They really didn't hook me in though.

Is it possible for a band to have too many ideas? 10cc is an undeniably talented band but this album can feel a little exhausting. The songs are mostly Beatlesesque pop, frequently dipping into Queen-level theatricality. It’s smart stuff but maybe too clever for its own good? I respect that they take a lot of risks but most of it didn’t work for me.

Interesting and quirky... maybe even a bit silly.

I got really tired of the rock opera/musical theater sound. Didn't finish with two songs left.

inconsistent but I enjoyed some of this

Eka biisi oli ihan hauska ja sitten lähti taso laskuun.

Cool album, but no songs really stick out to me as spectacular

Boring

Very interesting album. It's just that it's all over the place in terms of sound, never really finding it's groove.

I really didn’t like it. It was like a mash up of all these different classic rock bands. Like a restaurant with too many items on the menu and meals made up of foods that don’t go together. I know the band is full of music legends, but it was just so off. I liked some parts of some songs and really hated many parts of all the songs. Definitely the worst album to date.

I'm all in when these folks go all bubble gum pop or love songs. This is just too all over the place. We get it, you're weird. But you're not Steely Dan.

God I’ve had enough of this 70s/80s also-ran, extremely mid Brit rock off this list

Not sure about this one.

Liked Hollywood song

really fucking corny at the start, but less so as the album progresses. INSANE instrumentals. fav songs: somewhere in hollywood, baron samedi, the sacro-lliac, oh effendi.

This is pretty bad The only thing it has going for it is that it isn’t painful and is mildly camp

Not a vibe to me

Art rock somewhat in the style of Queen. One listenable track: Baron Samedi.

Couple of songs I enjoyed, but not sure I will ever go back to them.

Some catchy tunes within a lot of meandering tracks. These guys would focus and have some good songs later, but this was meh.

It would be a sensical, boring world wherein self-conscious quirk differed in effect only as far as subjectivity goes. There's real difference in 10cc's winking. Sheet Music touches a lot of bases, the first one quickly, but the diamond is too polished to stray from tradition. No pleasant uncanniness, so the variations just grate.

I really didn’t enjoy this. Felt like a beach boys rip off most of the way through.

Sometimes I like weird and offbase. This was not one of those times. This album felt like "department of random" with multiple different styles in each song, with no cohesive anything anywhere in sight. Without anyone driving the bus, it meanders in the most disjointed away. Trying a second listen did nothing to change my point of view and I found it mildly tortuous and pointless. As art, it is just not doing it for me, it doesn't feel exploratory or inventive, instead, it feels like a mistake. 2/5

Didn't really do it for me. Hard to follow the vocal themes and is a bit zany and inconsistent. I don't believe I disliked it as much as it didn't settle as an important experience for me.

What did I just listen to? I can appreciate the creative process, but I can’t say it’s enjoyable.

weird. Not bad, just weird.

This stuff has not aged that well. 10cc are the very definition of a greatest hits band giving you all the stuff you need, so on this album it is The Wall Street Shuffle. Otherwise it's pastiche pop. Immaculately done but absolutely of its time.

Meh 4/10

Never got them. They are overly theatrical and almost too clever for the medium. They hit so many moods almost like a Queen album. Inventive but smug and irritating.

I struggled being able to take the music seriously throughout this album. Overall I just wasn’t a fan. I love silly music and parody, weird Al is one of my favorite artists. But this was just too much cheese for me to enjoy.

It's like a mix of ELO, Ram Jam & a better version of Status Quo but with ridiculous lyrics! Musically I think they are great but their ironic, wacky lyrics are a bit lost on me. They use a bit of sarcastic/ironic racism to describe real past events in a couple of songs 'Hotel' from this album and 'Dreadlock Holiday' from another. Songs that I'm more familiar with like 'The Things We Do For Love', 'I'm Not In Love' and 'Good Morning Judge' are like a different group from this album.

I really don't think I like this.

Never heard of 10cc. They didn't seem to take themselves, or this album too serious, so I won't either. Next.

I'm not in love is an amazing song. It's not on this album.

I've always kinda hated 10cc, and this is a good example of why. Weak tunes that have lots of different (but pointless) sections, crappy schoolboy "funny" lyrics delivered as if they were written by Noel Coward or something, all with jokey, vaguely-racist overtones. They are the anti-ELO; trying so hard to be clever and virtuosic but ending up cheesy, awkward and boring as shit. As if Noel Edmonds and Dave Lee Travis formed a band. Pretty fucking irritating, saved from a 1* due to their Strawberry Studios legacy. I fear this list will have more albums from these losers

I was very excited at first because the first track is soo good. The Wall Street Shuffle has a fantastic guitar riff (and what a tone!), cool and timeless lyrics as well as great melodies with interesting instrumentals. However, the rest of the album is a huge disappointment. It seems like they threw at this all of their ideas hoping something will stick. And maybe it would if they followed through on some of those. But no, if anything interesting appears on this album it is immediately followed by some other - most often silly - idea. Luckily it doesn't drag too long as it's only 37 minutes and in the end there are some better tracks but the middle part of it is at times unlistenable, with special regards to the Worst Band in the World. Few highlights of the album except for the first track: Hotel, Baron Samedi. Overall its been a big disappointment.

Might be worth another listen, offensiveless stuff

Hyvä mutta mieleenjäämätön, laadukkaita biisejjj!!

Weird art rock for the soft rock generation

Well, it was enjoyable and kinda fun, but I think I will completely forget about this album forever in a few hours

There were some fun songs here and there but also some very questionable ones

nahhhhhh

Just boring

'Worst Band In The World' is fun but not much else here is. I should like this album because I'm a Steely Dan fan and it's playing in vaguely the same field. However, it just doesn't do it for me.

Meh, bit to all over the place for me

Sheet was wack

a couple of okay tracks but i don't dig this kind of quirky prog

The best moment on the album for me was when I heard "Worst Band in the World" for the first time. I immediately recognized it as the core of J. Dilla's classic "Workinonit" track from Donuts. I love that Dilla record, 10cc's album I like a lot less so.

Not great. 2/5

I'll add a star for being eclectic and unique, but it's not good. Every song sounds like a different genre, which is a little jarring. The only other songs by 10cc that I'm familiar with are "I'm Not In Love" and "Dreadlock Holiday". I like both of those, and neither is on this album so I was pretty disappointed. Album cover is pretty cool though.

Yea ok

I didn't like it.

Tää löytyy perintö LP:nä hyllystä mutta aika maltilliselle soitolle on jäänyt. Joskus oon avausraidan soittanut tiskijukkahommissa mut eipä tää nyt muuten oikein iske. 2/5

Alku toimii, mutta meni vähän liian hassutteluksi lopulta. Oisin ehkä halunnut tykätä enemmän.

Avausraita on jees, muuten aika kädenlämpöistä settiä. 2/5.

Weird album. Lots of different sounds. Glad it led a great J Dilla sample but otherwise to out there for me.

Weird. It sounds good, and maybe I'd want to listen to individual songs on occasion, but I can't really imagine wanting to come back to this album. A bit too "all over the place".

You know in Jeff Goldblums' The Fly, the problem all started with the unexpected organism sharing the teleportation pod with Jeff. I feel that happened here. The may have been some good ideas in the Queen, Bowie, Randy Newman, Weezer vibe in here... but somehow a Frank Zappa stowed away in the teleportation pod on the way to the studio. What we have is a bizarre novelty-sounding rock-ish record. It's weird, but there's nothing more than a few bars here or lyrics there that are very interesting. Happy to not listen to this again.

Weird mid 70's art pop. There seem to be about a million ideas here for songs and they all seem to be crammed into one song after the other. It's a bit of a mess. Melodies trapped under pretentiousness. Best Tracks: The Wall Street Shuffle; The Worst Band in the World; Silly Love

That was really weird. It felt like a sugared up kid distracted by a hundred different things. Every time you think you have a handle on whatever direction it’s taking, it goes somewhere more annoying. Then it just… stops.

gostei

Had this on tape as a kid from my dad's collection. Weird and seems deliberately jokey and quirky - some interesting tracks in there but feels a bit tiresome generally

Wall Street Shuffle was tof om weer eens te horen, gelukkig was dat ook gelijk het eerste nummer, want de rest was om snel te vergeten.

Beetje saai allemaal!

Ik vond die eigenlijk best wel vervelend.

Dit deed me denken aan Queen/Freddy Mercury. Iets tussen vrolijk en vervelend.

This one was a real slog to get through. They may not really be 'The Worst Band In The World' but they are damn far from being among the best. This album just really seems like mass-produced rock, made to fit for easy-listening radio or as representative but not too distracting background music for sappy movies. They get some creativity points for Clockwork Creep, but there too the execution is lackluster and bland. Glad to have this over with.

Help! Identity crisis! This album has ZERO focus. What is this band? Wall Street was decent and Worst Band started strong then began to sound like M&M rapping. Moving forward, they launch into Bohemian Rhapsody-ish singing. Maybe throw in some show tunes, cobbled with some state-of-the-art 1974 digital instrumentation and Steely Dan and, how 'bout some Santana and Queen? Oh! and then top it off with some Flight of the Concords and Jimmy Buffet for good measure. It's a mess and difficult to make sense of. Some of it is good, but the arrangements are high on coke and PCP. It's erratic and all too disjointed. F this!

So many artists on the 1001 that lack a cohesive identity. Does 10cc know who they are or what their style is? I don’t after one listen. “The Worst Band in the World” was annoying, “Hotel” was weird, and “Clockwork Creep” was, well not creepy, just crappy. “Silly Love” featured a metal riff behind silly singing of the word silly, then becomes a totally different song before veering back to the metal riff. More weirdness ensued for the rest of the album. They were contemporaries of Pink Floyd and Queen, and occasionally sound like either of them, occasionally hints of the Beatles, sometimes blues-rock... it's just too all over the place. And too many moments where the sound or arrangement made me laugh out loud with a wtf. I prefer artists who have more of a definable/recognizable style. They avoid the single-star review and get bumped up slightly by being an unnecessary British band on the list without having a singer with an annoying post-punk/new wave/Britpop grating British singing affectation.

The lead single "The Worst Band in the World" failed to chart. Are they they worst band in the world? Not by a long shot based on other albums included in the 1001 albums list. But just because they aren't the worst band in the world, does that make them worthy of inclusion on this list? Absolutely not.

The album started out fine with The Wall Street Shuffle. Then it fell off the cliff with the aptly named The Worst Band in the World. And it didn’t fully recover. Succinctly, this album is weird. But that’s not the whole story. There are quite a few bits and pieces that are good. But it’s always wrapped in weirdness.

Sounds like a potential influence for Of Montreal.

Sounding dated, a little whimsical in parts, but clearly talented composers, however darting about a little too much stylistically for my ear

Well, I love Dreadlock Holiday & I'm not in Love (who doesn't) - but know nothing else. And to be honest I expected more. Feels very bland musically & lyrically. 1001 Greatest Albums? Really? How?

McCartney-esque catchy art-pop; some of the songs ahead of their time, some are swing-and-miss. Talented musicians throwing things at the wall to see what sticks. Favorite Track: Oh Effendi Relisten: No

Sheet Music, it's not you, it's me. I can't deal with your frantic zaniness. I don't hate you, but I can't say I enjoyed my time with you either. You are extremely not my thing, and that's okay. It's great even.

not bad but eh

Novelty music

the version i listened to must have been remastered, it was excellent sound quality and mixing. shame the music was shite. i have no understanding how something that sounds like this could come from stockport.

There were a few amusing moments, but I wasn't really into it.

I didn't find anything about this original or particularly interesting.

I’m not usually one to complain about creativity and variety on an album, but in this case, they sound like a different band every song. It gets to the point where it sounds spoofy and contrived; like a cover band that plays everything from Metallica to Bob Marley to Frank Sinatra.

artık güzel bi albüm gelebilir mi

Catchy dad rock strikes again

No. I did not like that. Occassionally I thought 'oh this bits okay' and it just wasn't again.

I didn't get it. Not quite "The worst band in the world", but certainly not for me. A miss.

Not my vibe tbh. Gotta be in the right mood for it.

It was okay. I was not a fan of the album composition.

It Was ok

Stockport's finest! A weird almost spoof like album. Brings to mind Spinal Tap. I imagine it's was seen as experimental at the time but now it just sounds daft.

A fairly forgettable 70s rock album

some inoffensive 70s pop rock. some annoying 70s art pop. overall, i disliked it.

Aika mitäänsanomatonta taustamusiikkia, mutta ei kyllä toisaalta häirinnytkään.

Disappointing and dated

Fine, not really my bag

Creative and a little bit out there. Not really to my taste.

Not my bag, baby. But it's fine

“Deriving their name from the metric total of semen ejaculated by the average male...” Lol. I’m glad I listened to this album if for no other reason than to learn that, but most of these songs sound like the tracks you skip on later Queen records. “Somewhere in Hollywood” was the standout for me. “Her beauty looks out like a trailer. Norman Mailer waits to nail her.” Out of Kanye’s mouth that would have been hot fire.

Not great.

nice listen

Weird.

Tylsähköä, geneeristä papparockia pienillä proge-elementeillä. Ei herättänyt suuria tunteita suuntaan tai toiseen. Tai ehkä lopulta äärimmäinen mitäänsanomattomuus kallistaa mielipiteen negatiiviseksi.

Not by bag

I only know these guys from Dreadlock Holiday, another British band that loves ska/reggae, on the Snatch Soundtrack. The Wall Street Shuffle isn't doing it for me...another band that hates capitalism. The laser sounds are a great addition. And they hate Americans too, this is tremendous. They're like terrible prog rock Harry Nilsson. Add prog rock to the "I know this is going to suck just by the genre" list. Baron Samedi is like a Santana cover. There's a Mothers of Invention vibe to this album...and the comparison is not flattering to 10cc. I'd rather listen to Dreadlock Holiday on repeat for eternity than this album.

I sometimes find ELO a bit annoying. They are nowhere near as annoying as this

Genuinely awful

The guy who thinks he is really clever but is really just a douche asshole, but in album form.

Disliked, bands like this were the reason for Punk Rock

Based on their American hits I was ready for a half hour of melodic soft rock. Instead I get the musical equivalent of Monty Python. I really don’t enjoy Monty Python. Very disappointing!

Honestly this was trash. There were moments of potential, but nothing ever came. I can almost always find something good in an album and give it at least 2 stars, but I could not.

Tämä oli kyllä ihan kamalaa. Tuli mieleen joku musikaalilevy, tai biisit joita vois olla jossain putouksen sketsissä. Pitäisikö sanoa että "tekotaiteellista paskaa".

wow. How is this is a must listen to LP?

There’s a reason why I only know one song from these guys.

Another case where I wonder, what qualifies an album to make the cut for this list???

Didn't like this one but. They seemed to be trying too hard to be clever.

I've been procrastinating listening to this for two weeks now having read a brief description. One of those lost in experimentation type albums. Listening confirms my hesitation. They slightly oversell themselves as "The Worst Band in the World," but they aren't completely wrong. On the flipside, listening to this I couldn't help but think that some rap producer should buy this album and could mine it for samples, because there are so many weird and varied things going on here that you could find some great stuff. It's almost as if they set out to make each song as a bunch of random sounds and ideas. Some of them are downright annoying like Clockwork Creep. 1/5 based on my irritability after hearing this full album.

Did not like it at all

There’s nothing particularly witty or redeeming here for me. Sheet Music is certainly experimental, but not in a way I found enjoyable. The band famously declared they weren’t the worst band in the world. Listening to this, I genuinely struggled to think of many contenders who might challenge them for that title. I appreciate that the album leans heavily into eccentricity, satire and studio trickery, but too often it feels chaotic rather than clever. What might have been sharp and subversive instead comes across as grating and self-indulgent. Favourite tracks: I genuinely couldn’t pick one, nothing stood out in a positive way. Least favourite tracks:“Old Wild Men,” with its “Baa Baa Black Sheep” motif, was particularly irritating, and when it rolled into “Clockwork Creep” things only got worse. By that point, I had completely checked out. I don’t think I could have disliked this album more. Album artwork: Ironically, the best thing about the record. The cover is striking and memorable — far more enjoyable than the music inside.

Funky ! Unfortunately not my style tbh. Really unique !! Fav song is ‘Clockwork Creep’.

I mean…I dunno. It’s too much. I can’t imagine seeing them live

What a load of shit

I thought I was going to enjoy this 10cc outing, as I do like their early stuff, but it was disappointing….

I can’t get along with this. They just seem so self-satisfied with their own ‘cleverness’.

Absolute crap. Terrible lyrics mixed with overproduced stupid noises. This album is worse than the lowest rated albums on this list, and to be honest deserves the bottom spot.

How is that pronounced?

I thought 10cc would be hit-or-miss (since I came in knowing only "Im Not In Love" and "Deadbeat Holiday") but this was no-hit-all-miss. Anoyingly so.

Interesting. I've not heard these songs by 10cc before.

Funny, I remember Wall Street Shuffle as a nothing song, didn't know it was 10cc, didn't notice them again until I'm Not in Love, which I always took as tongue in cheek. So I didn't know they were essentially a novelty act, is this really a whole album of pretty bland satrical songs? This is the first album I've given up on after 4 songs.

Shocked to see such a mediocre 70's UK pop band on the list, and not surprisingly it lived up to it's mediocrity. Would love to know what they were really thinking when they made this.

The worst band in the world

feb 19th im bored and annoyed to death

Starting to wonder if the provincial quality of a lot of these picks is also just having really shitty taste and/or the 70s were really fucking into theatre music. I like a few 10cc songs. Everyone does. The one here that Dilla pulled apart and turned into magic. The magical one on a different record. But this is mostly just awful. Worst band in the world even.

self indulgent dross

No. Never again.

Obnoxious, album was barely hovering around 2-stars until “The Sacro-Iliac” sealed its fate

why on earth is this album on here? 10cc in the 70s maybe (I'm not in love..whisper whisper big boys don't cry) but this is from 2007 and not very enjoyable at all. someone enlighten me if I'm missing sthg?

When judged purely on a production level - 10cc is an all timer. If you don't know read how Not in Love was created. Scrambles the mind. And here - they are having a great time in the studio. Impressive for the era. It's just so damn goofy. Maybe I'm just no fun. Me no get...

I kept waiting for this be a joke. Like Spinal Tap or even Weird Al. But no, it was just absolutely terrible glam-prog.

10cc is responsible for some fantastic singles like "Rubber Bullets" and "I'm Not In Love"; when they dial back on the wackiness they can crank out some fairly terrific tracks. Unfortunately on *Sheet Music* they show no such restaint, instead stuffing the prog-flavored pop rock numbers on this record with gimmicks, constantly interrupting the flow of the songs with ridiculous digressions and goofball arrangements.

1. ztreet - 0 2. band - 0 3. hotel - 0 4. Men -1 5. Creep -0 6. Silly -0 7. Hollywood - 0 8. Baron - 0 9. Lilac - 0 10. Oh - 1

I listened to this after listening to in a silent way and it was a jarring difference. Not a fan.

So bad it made me wanna https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypMnBuvP5kA Which, incidentally, was a much better song than anything they're offering on this album.

A hot mess. Something I prefer to watch. Not listen to.

Я прочитал ревью на rym о том, что 10сс - это кринж, потому что они выебываются тем, что "познали" поп, и как это просто, но по итогу на альбоме нет ни одной хорошей, смешной песни. И я с этим полностью согласен. Лучшая песня - The Worst Band In The World.

This sounds like if Steely Dan tried to make a rock opera. So, I hate it.

Wow... This is bad. It's the prog-pop no one EVER asked for. I feel like someone really should have told this band they sucked before they got this far. This sounds like it's being performed at a high school talent show... and they lose to the popular senior doing topical stand-up.

Not for me. 1/5

83/1001 10cc - Sheet Music Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ This is in contention for the worst album I've heard on this list so far. They're trying to make some points on bankers, the music industry and tourism/capitalism, but do it in such a way that it detracts from any sort of impact whatsoever. It's cheesy as fuck and in the worst possible way. Hotel really has a whiff of racism to it. There are moments that are clearly inspired by multiple bands preceeding them and it's just pastiche. In short, the band think they're far funnier than they actually are and every part of my being is dying from cringing so fucking much.

No private session used for Spotify. Know the band for at least one song, never listened to an album. Disjoint, erratic and sometimes annoying. It's like it's trying to symphonic but misses the mark.

I didn’t love this album . It just wasn’t my style but I did appreciate the tempo and lyrics

I didn't care for this at all. 2/10

Whimsical, bit pointless, studio album using as many as effect as possible tempo changes key changes but all for the sake of it lacks purpose and direction. Forget it.

My god, this is irritating.

First couple songs were good along with one at the end but I really don't think this album stands out at all. Very repetitive.

Every song sounded like it was going to be good and then someone would do something stupid about a minute in and made me hate it.

I dont have patience for this self indulgent horseshit

@boopidoo said it best. This album is absolute shite! Track 2 should have been the name of the album to get the message across.

This is not a review, this is a prayer Heavenly music gods - please bring me a new album that is less shit than this one. The bar is low, I beseech thee. Forgive me for not understanding why your prophet Dimery makes us walk in the desert of crap, infantile and useless music. Help me to be serene and at peace when I'd rather tear my fucking ears off Amen.

lol wtf

1+ Stars (3/15)

I listened to this in the car on a work trip and I think it's the first album that made me want to buy the book just to find out WTF this guy was thinking when he decided people need to listen to this album before they die. It is preposterous. I laughed out loud several times. It sounded like an album written by a conference room full of people in suits who were trying to write something to be marketed as a disco-oriented Broadway play about yacht rock with hopes that ELO would do the soundtrack. Several songs reminded me of the Fred Armisen and Kristen Wiig characters on Weekend Update who make up songs as they are singing them. I need to get on Genius.com and re-read the lyrics to this album because so many of the songs were utterly ludicrous. My first instinct was two stars just because I didn't think it deserved the worst possible score simply because I was entertained by how bad it was, but shouldn't that basically be a textbook one-star? (P.S. - one of the members of this band was literally named Lol. I bet the suits in the conference room patted themselves on the back really hard for that one.)

You what, sorry didn't quite catch the album title?.? Shit music, yes I agree old boy.

The origin of the band name is about a billion times better than the music said band made. It’s obvious that these guys were never told “no, that idea doesn’t work” at any point in their lives.

Awful. Felt like I was in a terrible musical.

The worst record so far.

This is the longest 37 minute album in history

Holy crap this album is hot ass, I can't believe they heard this after making it and thought "yea this is good let's release it". 0/5 but I can't rate lower than 1 unfortunately.

That's gonna be a no for me dog. Only because I'm committed to this little project did I get all the way through this one. I can grant that the recording sounds good, and there is some decent musicality in here. Now, pair that with songwriting that makes me want to punch out my eardrums and musical style that is equivalent to fingernails on the chalkboard to my aural palette, and this one can go back to the never space that it has existed for previous 47 years of my life. I cringe to think that the algorithm will think that the track I add to my playlist is an indication of "I want more" of this garbage.

Some doodling additional sounds can’t make this insipid record interesting

Kind of a cross between Steely Dan and Frank Zappa, but only the annoying parts.

There's a fine line between whimsical and goofy and they fell off it within 2 minutes. Extremely annoying.

reactivated your account, penis :3

I've heard of 10cc before, but I don't think I've ever heard any of their music before. I have no idea what to expect from this album, but here's hoping that I'll enjoy it! Well, that was certainly a bizarre experience, and not in a good way. After listening to this, I can't believe that the top review for this album isn't "more like shit music." This album sounded like it wanted to be competent power pop, but each song was a strange potpourri of influences and sounds. "The Wall Street Shuffle" starts off with bluesy guitar riffs, before switching gears to 10cc's stab at what sounds like baroque pop for the chorus. Choices were certainly made on this album. The songs that had a consistent sound were bland or just unpleasant to listen to. I didn't find anything particularly musically competent on this album; this was a mess from start to finish. I definitely wouldn't come back to this album, and I'm glad I'm finished with it.

Maybe not the worst band in the world, but definitely not good.

Corny AF

Didn’t get it. Liked the first song but thought the rest was pretty rubbish,

👎🏻

annoyingly in love with its own brilliance

The Wall Street Shuffle

Self indulgent silly crap. Frenetic music made for the enjoyment of 10CC, but not the listener. I suffered through this and I am a lesser person because of it. Another “1” to go into the “will never listen again” category. How did this ever even get produced??

Not for me. Rather clowny music in my ears.

Just pop songs, that’s all. No idea how it gets labelled ‘influential’ or ‘must hear’. I could quite happily have not heard this album before I die.

Shiit Music

Far too clever for its own liking.

Very English, Very 1974 - Prog Pop. Very bitty. Very pleased with itself. Clever-clever.

Honestly so horrible and not funny at all

i think these guys should have written a musical or something it feels like that’s what they really wanted to do here. some of the melodies are kinda fun but they are just patently silly overall. THESE ARE NOT SERIOUS PEOPLE. they sound like if the who and the beach boys had a really annoying and mid baby. also whoa that song hotel is pretty racist!

Another subpar British band. Some of it's kinda fun, but none of it is a must listen.

Not a review. Definitely sounds early 70s and very English. Almost folk, with embellished as intelligent, psychedelic, or as humour? But perhaps too insular and rarified to translate beyond a very narrow group and time period. I think to understand it you need a deep appreciation for the Magic mother one where it really shouldn't be in the list except for academic interest or to tick a box on a MICRO GENRE. Merrigoround and a taste for Python, which makes very obscure white dude music. This goes onto a pile with about 20 albums on it already form this list: Albums - "other - only of passing interest" 20th century music, (including obscure micro genres no one will ever listen to again) ... This is really pushing the limits of pointlessness. I mean why is it on the list?

Not feeling it now, maybe some other time

Too much going on in every song. Some had good parts but then they threw in 12 other songs/genres and made them boring songs that kept going. Some songs seemed to be directly pulled from Paul McCartney riffs (1985, Long and winding road) Sometimes the Grateful Dead reared its ugly head into these songs too. Maybe this album was interesting in its time, but exhausting to listen to today

This was pretty goofy

Why is this record here? It’s not that great, in fact I did not like it at all.

Jeg var faktisk ret optimistisk til at starte med - Wall Street Shuffle var ret god og jeg lærte, at J Dilla samplede Worst Band in the World - men FUCK hvor bliver det irriterende i længden!! Get out of my face 10cc!! stor 1'er

Meget eksperimenterende.. Lige præcis den her type musik er virkelig ikke mig..

Garbage

First song was cringe AF. i knew i was fucked from there on out…. Each song sounded like some guy having a manic episode and singing what was going on his head. I hated it dude. I hated it.

I like their AM gold songs… who knew they could also sound so terrible

this album is all over the place and the dudes singing are too smily genuinely awful

Not for me 1/5

Some of these songs sound like they’re a joke band, and some sound like they want to be taken seriously.

When studio musicians get ‘above their raisin’! How did they last as long as they did?

I did not like this album. Some of the instrumentals were cool but entirely ruined by the vocals/lyrics

Sorry not for me, I know a few people who adore 10cc but that's sub par middle of the road AOR to my ears.

Awful. Why is this on the list??

I don’t know what this work of art wants from me.

This is the wish/temu version of queen

Sounds like a high school bad where all the dude in the band are having a blast, but no one else is. Rough.

I listened to this this yesterday morning and I literally can't remember what it sounded like. It can't be good if it had that little impact.

Boring british music

The “Wall Street shuffle” is a not so subtle indictment of Wall Street style capitalism. Next up is "The Worst Band in the World" which takes a bit of a poke at the music industry. Entirely sure about what the song “Hotel” is about. It sounds like they don’t like Americans and Americans’ tendency to buy the better things. They even want the Yankees to go home. All to a calypso influence “Old Wild Men is a melancholy, mellow ode to men, who apparently reached the end of their lives and, having seen better days are waiting to die. "Clockwork Creep" is frenetic and nonsensical. I have no idea what it’s about. “Silly Love” is a pretty rockin’ tune. And I guess it’s 10 cc attempt at doing a love song. If there was one good word to describe it would be silly... "Somewhere in Hollywood" predates Eagles’ "King of Hollywood" by 5 years while covering the same topic. "Baron Samedi" starts out as an uptempo since but then changes time signature about one minute in and then picks back up a minute later. Back and forth throughout. It’s just an odd song. It might be about a superhero. Or, I might be about a vampire. It’s a head scratcher. "The Sacro-Iliac" pitches a new dance for those who don’t want to. Not surprised that it never caught on. The album closes on a high note “Oh Effendi” as we move to the Middle East and oil based capitalism. 10cc was always very experimental. And making music for art sake is all well and fine but making records is usually a decision to make money as far as the music industry goes. I have no idea how this album ever got made. I can’t imagine a record executive thinking that this was ever going to produce even a single hit

Not that interesting

Borderline unlistenable.

I'd definitely heard of them and heard some of their songs on the radio, but even after listening to this album, they just don't do much for me.

Meandering pap and prattle. I didn't need to listen to this when there's so much better out there that didn't make this list.

Shit music.

Oh my! Definitely from of an era of inappropriate and racial lyrics. Sheet Music???? Should have been titled shite music!! I have no idea what genre these guys actually fall into, as its a mis mash of bits of folk and Country blended into something of a popish type melody. I don't rate 10cc or this album, I can only think of one hit song 10cc ever churned out, I'm not in love, or some crap like that, but it was long and boring.

Not for me

Not the worst album we've had, but in the bottom 50.

Just felt really lightweight and nothing really stood out Expected more

absolutely not

I like 10cc but this album didn’t find its lane for me

Prog-light and very definitely of its time. I never understood the fascination people had with 10cc.

Unbelievable crap

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope on a rope. Starts at nope and circles all the way back to nope. Not Leslie Knope but actual nope. Nope.

It’s an absolute mess! A stamping-together of numerous 70s trends, the resultant album just confuses and irritates. Is it mild glam pop? A Bonzo Dog Doo-Dahesque stab at absurdist comedy? A smooth country-infused rocker? An experimental proggy casting where the songs are suites with multiple movements? Parody? Self-parody? It’s all these things at different points. But does it work? God, no. Over the course of these reviews, I have realised that a sense of humour can elevate an album, but the most painful of spectacles is comedy that doesn’t work. This album continually tries to joke around, presumably claiming inspiration from the Beatles’ kookier stuff, but itself inspires only an embarrassed downward glance from the listener. Also, and it must be said, it’s overtly racist at points. As for the music, very occasionally you hear a snippet of a slightly interesting idea, but nothing is sustained, and all they do is swerve wildly to a completely unconnected style ten seconds later, leaving nothing for the listener to chew upon. This isn’t eclecticism, it’s senselessness. I was prepared to give this 2 stars, but a relisten proved this to be far more annoying and unpleasant than I was crediting it. Beforehand, I wasn’t ill-disposed to 10cc. Their singles were quite fun, and although I’m not persuaded that I’m Not In Love is a masterpiece, I understand why some people adore it. But this record demonstrates that, unless later albums actually show coherence, they only have worth as a singles band (which is not a bad thing to be). Also, there’s a typo on the cover: instead of Sheet Music, it should say Shit Music.

wank. just wank.

Corny. Couldn’t get into it.

Pff, dat was vervelend. Vooral dat nummer met die vogelgeluidjes deed me de das om. Om dan toch maar even in de onderbroekenlol van 10CC te blijven: zaaddodende muziek

Coming right after Cohen was always going to be a challenge but this one doesn't really land for me.

This is just straight up bad. Don't even know what genre of music this is. 2/10.

Not my bag. Creative, yes, but in the same way that some art can be creative yet not entertaining. Too much of a prog rock vibe for me.

Glam Prog? No thanks.

Naff 70s boring rock

This band sounds lost. Inconsistent sounds make it feel like the album is all over the place which in some ways is represented in their humorous lyrics over very serious sounds at times but also very light sounds at times. Could be talented, but they haven’t put it altogether in a way that shows confidence.

There's nothing wrong with this other than it sounds quite of its time. I just can't believe that this can be considered amongst the best albums ever.

A bit of a nothing album for me, expected a bit more.

It got a bit annoying
