Reviews (page 6 of 7)

I do like 10cc, but not this particular album - nothing of any worth here

Creo no haber entendido estar escuchando un mismo disco. Rarísima mi experiencia. Pero no es algo loco. Por eso digo, rarísima mi xp.

Not bad, not the best. 2 stars

It was ok. All over the place. Standout songs: Silly Love Baron Samedi

Okej, förstår varför jag inte behöll vinylen, men ok ändå, vad ska man ens kalla detta.

Great to hear the source of the iconic Dilla Donuts Sample, but… Dis shi was ahyusss

prior to this, the only song of theirs i'd heard was i'm not in love. was very surprised to hear a less interesting version of sparks when i put this on. i unfortunately don't like sparks and the wall street shuffle was the only song on here i would probably consider listening to again. i absolutely get the appeal here, just isn't for me

First song was good, it's about a 2.8

4 - BAD

Bit weird

They were doing too much

um...I am not sure. Loopy.

A whole lot of influences, and a whole lot of ideas, many of them bad or cheesy.

knew that second track from the j dilla album, but otherwise…

Very strange album, maybe hasn't stood the test of time because it's so all over the place. 2*

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: None I did not care for this. It felt like off-brand Queen. Very weird and not very entertaining. I've had a cold the past few days, perhaps this is influencing my opinion, but this just wasn't good.

The Worst Band In The World. Baron Samedi, no, me desagrada incluso.

I am not sure what happened here but it wasnt the music that made me understand why it was on this list. I can understand choices I don't like but I know how they changed music, but what is this?

Not overly impressed. I was expecting more than this. I grew up listening to music when this was released. Even with that said, I wouldn’t even enjoy this back then!

All just a bit too wacky and quirky for me to appreciate much. Can't settle on anything for more than a passing moment, and isn't the better for it...

ADHD - the album.

Started off ok then some of the songs got weird

I don't get it

The first song had this really raw guitar sound that I adored, unfortunately they then forgot how to achieve that sound and the rest of the album was super disappointing Unsatisfied 2

j dilla did it better

2 for production. Not for me otherwise.

Es un experimento

This is album that I would think sound wise be right in my wheelhouse, but it didn’t catch me the way I thought. The Wall Street Shuffle begs to be used in a movie or some sort of financial media campaign. The rest has bits and pieces I like but nothing really I feel like getting into right now .

We get it man, you're kooky

I mostly didnt enjoy this

They're not the worst band in the world, but at least they're self aware enough that they are not very good.

- Very strange songs on here, more like a weird musical than an album

It was ok, but I won't be listening to it again.

I did not like this. It sounded like a cocktail where the ingredients were ADHD, 70's racism, every genre they'd ever heard, Tiswas and some obvious talent. I rolled my eyes so hard the national grid hooked me up to the power supply and i powered a small town for the interminable hour i listened to this.

This is kinda like Steely Dan if Becker and Fagen were more interested in seeming clever than writing good songs.

Not sure what to make of this but at least they produced 10cc's worth of mammal sauce doing it. Apart from that nothing really to write home about though.

Ganska blekt. En tvåa

Very inventive. Too inventive? I think so. The good bits reminded me of XTC. 2 stars. Fave track - old wild men

Didn't like that much

There’s a bunch of ideas here, and none of them hit well. This is a full album of Paul McCartney joke songs and the Wiki says they were inspired by his drum set… so that checks out.

Was not feeling this one. It had some interesting moments, but there weren't any full songs I can really say I liked. Disappointing miss for me.

Corny as hell but a few bright spots.

Hmm. I'd assumed 10cc were a classic rock band, but this was a lot weirder than I expected. I really liked The Wall Street Shuffle but the rest of the album didn't do much for me.

I only knew them for "Deadlock holiday" and never really liked that. This is completely different and more like a Dad joke rock musical. Too many interesting ideas crammed into the songs for any of them to catch me. I felt like on a roller-coaster, and not in a good way. I love good prog rock and also Queen and the Sparks, so I don't mind funny lyrics, a certain pomp or complex song structures. This just seems to want too much and in the end achieve hardly anything.

Etwas verstaubt aber harmlos

Not bad best part was the fez got recommended after I finished the album.

So many half-decent ideas wrought by over-production and bad decision-making.

Boy, this didn't age well. Not sure why this is a "must listen to" album. No thank you. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: n/a Best Songs Hotel

The Worst Band In The World

Well, I can't get beyond boring. Not sure why, but there it is. Except I like the last minute of Silly Love.

I’ve never really got on with 10cc. I think they’re trying to be humorous, but I don’t quite get it. I like the Wall Street shuffle. But the rest went by in a blur of amorphous Blancmange

I had a puzzled expression on my face while listening to this album. It’s not bad exactly, I just don’t really know what it is.

I don't know what I expected, but I certainly didn't expect this. And boy did I dislike it. It's possible I just wanted in the mood.

It’s like Temu Queen. It’s just too campy for my liking.

girl what was that

That sure was something, I'm not sure what it was and I don't think they knew what they wanted it to be either

10cc Really great 70’s production. I really like that harmonized guitar sound. The best of it reminds me of Wings or Harry Nilsson and I love those records but this didn’t really do anything for me. I didn’t like the humor- Felt problematic and/or annoying. 2.5 Favorites: old wild men, silly love, sacro-lilac

Not a bad album i just found it kind of annoying. Clockwork creep was obnoxious

Clearly the work of a group just finding the sound that will take them to the top of the charts within a few years of this album's release. But largely forgettable on its own merits. I suppose that a case could be made for including this while leaving off EVERY single album by Warren Zevon. But I'm pretty sure it would be a losing case if it ever actually went to trial.

This is the corniest shit I've ever listened to.

I remember 10cc as being OK back in the day, but probably more based on chart singles rather than on their albums. This album is a mixed bunch of tracks. Wall Street Shuffle (single) is great. Hotel and The Sacro-iliac are just plain weird. I'm not sure if they thought they were good tracks or just didn't have enough material to fill the album. Ignoring the weird tracks leaves a just about OK album but not one I'd go back to unlike some of their later albums which I have listened to multiple times in the past.

I know it's supposed to be funny - just not sure it actually is? I might hate this but hey at least you gotta give the musicianship is tight.

Middddd! Wayyy too much going on and nothing really stood out to me.

Cheesy soft rock 101

show tunes ass rock knockoff Beatles

2/5 Há algumas músicas interessantes (Wall Street Shuffle, Baron Samedi), mas, no geral, as melodias são genéricas e o álbum como um todo, sobretudo a gravação que beira o amadorismo, não impressiona.

Mmm you have to be a real fan to like this

First two tracks were nice… could have done without rest of the album Is this really deserving to be on this list? Sounds kinda basic in my opinion

Boring and basic. It's not bad, but it took me multiple tries to get through because I was so bored.

Silly and quirky.

this was weird in a way that i appreciated but did not enjoy. happy to have it on the list.

I found a lot of the song changes jarring since they seemed to be hopping around in genre/style and then I immediately forgot basically all other impressions I had about any of it.

really nothingburger rock which ironically tries to do a lot but doesn't??? i didn't see the appeal of the band either

The biggest problem with this album is that it isn't their best stuff. The album itself has great ideas, but it doesn't feel as refined as the other material I have listened to from them. The book mentions that this is a "big step" towards their sound, but why does that give any reason to add this album to the list? One day in the future, I'll listen to their next album, "The Original Soundtrack", and I bet that it will be a lot more refined than this.

I’m sorry, I don’t get why this is on this list. The Wall Street Shuffle lowkey a banger tho

Ehh there was one song I liked

Dated ok rock that sounds like show tunes by a band I never heard of because, it ain't that good.

Not sure what to make of this, they're great pop songwriters but the whole record feels like it's buried underneath a layer of irony, something which I'm not a huge fan of really. As soon as they latch on to a good idea they turn to a bad one. A lot of songs also just aren't that compelling.

I can remember 10cc as a singles band back in the early 70s from radio play (before I had an interest in music), many of their singles were pretty strong. I've not often played their albums, but sometimes they come across as a bit 'clever-dicky'. This is quite a likeable album in an early-70s pop-rock style.

felt like i was listening to a west end soundtrack

🥇hotel 🥈oh effendi 🥉the sacro-iliac HM: the wolf street shuffle, silly love

Best Song: Hotel Is this bad? No, not really. It this good? No, not really. It has no place in the 1001 albums list and I will never listen to it again. 2/5.

15 albums to go. Please be good ones. …this was not enjoyable

This shit was all over the place

Meh, sounds like standard 70's fare.

This was a real mixed bag. Very experimental and it was either to its detriment or it was good. Very hit and miss I guess

Stream of consciousness rock. Eclectic and unfocused. So all-over-the-place that it feels silly. Every once in a while, something would catch my ear, but then it’d be gone, which I found to be more frustrating than intriguing.

The mix of humorous songs with more serious songs/topics was a whiplash. Also the comedy wasn't funny enough.

I don't understand this. Is it novelty music? It doesn't seem to be serious but I don't get what the bit is.

Really eclectic hodge hodge of styles and songs, mostly not great.

Like a dorkier version of Yes (if that's possible) and a way less interesting version of Sparks.

This was a very bland 70’s rock album for me. Little to nothing interesting in each song.

this is Bar Music. not a terrible bar, it's not side glances and brawling and big bald boys showing off their pick-tat suspicious skull inks - but it's Bar Music for sports people; not my people. has an ENORMOUSLY good sample usage on J Dilla's 'Donuts' my full review for Sheet Music via 10cc: you guys gotta listen to Donuts from J Dilla, that is a fucking amazing album. i hope to god that album shows up later in the 1001 albums list, it has such an eclectic and delightful strangeness; just inventive, creative, strange and lovely. Sheet Music = ok

Other than the song "The Worst Band in the World" which has been immortalized via sample by J Dilla through "Workinonit", i found the rest of this album to be messy, sophmoric and uninteresting. 2/5

A little all over the place stylistically. Not terrible, but I don't really see myself revisiting this one

Best Song: The Wall Street Shuffle. A generic rock track, that is still somehow the best in an otherwise dull album. Worst Song: Hotel. Jeez, I hated all that whistling and gobbling in the background. Once the song turned around at 1:30 it was actually kinda fun, but that intro was rough. Overall: Lots of corny theatrical music here. It isn't the worst, but it certainly felt like the artists would rather be performing a play than a strictly musical album.

Helt ok, tror ikke jeg setter det på igjen

This sounds NOTHING like the band who made Cry or I’m Not In Love. In fact, this album is awful.

Fun fact - I used to have a job typestting and proof reading sheet music. That's not really much of a fun fact, and this isn't much of an album. Cheesey and at least adventourous, but no idea why this is on the list. They do have some memorable songs - "I'm Not In Love", "Dreadlock Holiday" - but this album lacks a killer track.

I remembered the name 10cc from my youth. Without knowing exactly why, I associated positive memories with it. This album shows me that I probably didn't hear much from the band. Otherwise, the memories wouldn't have been so positive. Except for the first track, the music on this album got on my nerves. I don't even need to listen to it again. 2/5

How many stars do I have to give to make this go away? Is two enough?

it's certainly unique, even within the confines of popular music in the 70's

Never heard of this group before. Not something I needed to hear.

This felt like something close to being a real designer bag, but you bought it for $5 from a street vendor on the corner of 8th and Broadway, so as much as you want it to be good, it never quite will be.

It was okay, nothing really grabbed me.

Not “The Worst Band in the World” but not sure how it makes the list.

Overall, this album was pretty meh, nothing too great about it, but it was alright for background music.

O disco apresenta alguns momentos interessantes em termos de melodias e arranjos, mas o que desagrada é que boa parte dos temas soa satírico.

A weird mix of prog / pop / hard rock

Wall Street Shuffle är bra men resten var riktigt tröttsamt

2.5 stars

Bicykle trykket ud i album længde.

De er ikke verdens dårligste band. Men de prøver da virkelig hårdt på at være det.

not really my taste

Very alright. Soft groovy rock at times and also a slurried mess of progressive and theatrical rock elements. Almost like Queen with poor song structure. I can get down with it though. I'm not sure where these guys fit in the anthology of rock music. But, it wasn't all bad. Just not as good as it could be.

I think this album is weird. And I don’t mean like fun weird or catchy weird or interesting weird. I mean annoying weird; stupid weird. It’s like the bastard child of ELO and The Beach Boys and I can’t tell if the album is meant to be satire or not. It feels like it’s trying to sound like so many things, but pulling none of them off. It just kind of sounds childish. Hotel especially sounds wrong. Jesus that song made me uncomfortable. I don’t mind strange albums from bands I never heard about, because sometimes it can be a pleasant surprise. But not this one. This one felt like a mess. Favorite track: Somewhere in Hollywood Other hits: The Wall Street Shuffle, Clockwork Creep, Old Wild Man

There was one small hit, but otherwise the album did have an interesting novel sound. I just didn't think it was all that good.

Rather boring

I dunno. The voice and all that, but this is middling stuff, I give it 2cc’s

Maybe today is one of those days where I wasn't ready for something so whimsical, but I really struggled to get through this.

Never heard of them before. Musically varied and interesting, although that's not to say good.

Diet Queen

mostly bad music made by talented people. highlight: oh effendi

Not for me. Sounds like Monty python

I appreciate the production, found the songs cheesy. Not an album I would listen to again

If you like hokey stuff, you might enjoy this. Musically, I thought there was some interesting stuff going on; vocally, I could have done with less than half of what we got. I really dug "Hotel" and there were definitely some tracks I thought were pretty darn good even with all the cheesiness (like "Somewhere in Hollywood") BUT I cannot look past the fact that this album has absolutely no reason to be on this list. I didn't hate it but I was ready for it to end and have no plans to relisten. 2.5

I can remember three 10cc songs, none are on this album. I'm not in love. A slightly crappy, but good at the time, end track for the school and youth club discos I used to go to. 14 years of tory rule destroyed them and everything else, fuck the tories. And I'm Mandy fly me, a cheesy tale of a dream. Pick your own number 3. Plenty more cheesy tracks to choose from. 2 stars because at the time I noticed them, slightly better than some, and for the nostalgia of the school/youth disco.

This album sounds like 1000 musical ideas were thrown at a wall Jackson Pollok-style. And the random collection of what stuck was just divided up into songs with a handful of the random ideas in each one. Sometimes it works. Often it doesn't. There is a humor underlying most of it which actually comes across as grating. "Hey, we're quirky and silly but we can really sing and play our instruments so it's cool, yeah?" It's like an Abbey Road Medley of Abbey Road Medleys. And that is not a good thing. "Hotel" and "Baron Samedi" have a sort of "Is this song racist?" ick factor, with their broken-english lyrics and use of odd Mexican(?)/vaguely-Jamaican/Caribbean accents. 2 stars

steely dan gjorde det bättre och roligare

Hasn't aged particularly well

Really wanted to like this they had some really interesting Concepts but it was cheesy as hell

didn't really enjoy. Although, as a Dilla - Donuts stan it was very weird hearing The Worst Band In the World for the first time. Gains a star for that alone

It wasn't bad by any means but it didn't really do anything for me.

The same cringe as easy Beach Boys without any of the enjoyment.

Boring and pretentious. It doesn’t deserve any more of my time, so this review is short.

I feel like I now know what you would get if you crossed Steely Dan and Queen, and it’s not pretty.

Surprised that I found some interesting experimental music here. A bit silly, or tongue in cheek, or odd for odd's sake. Not enough to recommend, but enough to make think "That's interesting."

Just not very good. Weird enough, but I like Godley and Creme better

I should like these guys. I bought several of their albums: this one and the Original Soundtrack back in the day. They are clearly talented, but strangely off-putting. It's clear they WANT to be this way, it's not a bad producer, or bad luck. A couple of good songs, but largely forgettable. 2 stars.

point0.

parts were stupid. parts were ok. most was forgettable

A bit theatrical. Enjoyed the guitar work, some songs were catchy. Vocals were ok. Definitely feels "of its time". Wall Street Shuffle is the standout. Found it a bit boring. 2.5 stars.

Turns out XTC had a very clear antecedent. I had no idea. All a bit clever clever for me while also having some of the dumbest lyrics imaginable. All a bit arch and postmodern for me.

This is one of the weirdest things I think I have ever listened to in my life. Also, for an English rock band, they're oddly obsessed with the US. I feel like all of these songs are about the United States. Because of how odd it is, there's a lot of moments that are a miss. There are some good listening moments, but that's not what catches your attention on a listen through. This would not make my own personal list of 1,001 albums to listen to before dying. I think it's funny and interesting. But I wouldn't say that it's good, or even particularly unique or special. Favorite Song(s): The Wall Street Shuffle

• 2/5 • Art rock maybe? If so, it’s dogs-playing-poker art • Weird Al meets Yes vibe.

inconsistent

Absolute drivel from "The Worst Band In The World"

I’ve had more fun breaking a rib than listening to this.

Un peu comme Queen, mais en nul.

Kind of bland. Nothing too interesting a bad album, just not very interesting either. 2/5 Won’t listen again

Some pretty interesting stuff here. Can see how it might have been groundbreaking at the time. But some of it is just so so cheesy. Overall don’t think I could sit through the whole thing again

I was pumped from the first few seconds of the first track. Enjoyed that one, but then it just kinda flattened out for me.

eh. Some of the music was pretty good, but the vocals and lyrics were not my thing. At all. Just kinda silly.

Maybe trying too hard to be clever? Overproduced? Not my style of humour or sound.

The first half was surprisingly amusing, which made the fall off in the second half was disappointing.

A far off cry from their biggest hit and you can understand the one hit wonder...

This album is supposed to be “fun” rather than just pure irritating, and it’s meant to be meta, which is why every song is in the style of either Queen or Sparks, Buggles and at some points the Beach Boys. 10cc obviously wanted to show off how terribly talented and clever they are, which is never a good idea. If an album can be smug, then this is it. At one point these oddball, pop rascals sing “don’t want to annoy you…” Sorry, lads, you have very much annoyed me!

Like Queen but without any of the hits

Pretty goofy stuff.

Found this pretty average. Think this type of music has been done way better by a lot of artists before (and after) 10cc

One good song and a whole lot of pretentious, overwrought, over-produced and self-important songs that offer little in the way of tunefulness to sink my teeth into. The arrangements are often complex, sometimes interesting but in the end, they don't invite me in ...just push me away. I guess they're trying to do their modern version of Pet Sounds or Rubber Soul, but in my opinion they fall well short and ultimately just leave me asking why they can't just offer up a tuneful pop song like The Wall Street Shuffle a little more often. 2.5 stars

Doo-doo music. Not extremely bad, but quite annoying

Quite a witty album, but a bit too silly for me and so annoying somewhat 😂.

Not my cup of tea. 2/5.

++: Hotel, Silly Love, Somewhere in Hollywood, The Sacro-Iliac +: The Wall Street Shuffle, Clockwork Creep, Baron Samedi, Oh Effendi +-: The Worst Band in the World -: Old Wild Men 5,4/10

Ugly cover. 1. Reminds me of Foreigner but not as good. Like the guitars in the chorus but not the chorus The break is also meh. 2. So they mimic/ mock popular music of the time. The musicianship is good. This song is either too weird or not weird enough. It's kinda ok. It's interesting in some spots. I just don't care. 3. After the stupid intro it's actually good. Fun but still... There's so much better music. 4. Not bad. 5. Not bad. I mean not horrible. Can be fun if in the mood for this shit. I'm not atm. 6. Same. 7. Like the opening. That's it. Stupid lyrics. 8. Whatever. Dumb. 9. Whatever. 10. Funky head bop. Stupid shit also. OVERALL: Not interested. There's good musicianship but they're too concerned with making fun of music than making good music.

Meh. Totally forgettable.

Surely this isn't their finest work.

This sounds like Queen if every member had ADHD and none of them were particularly good songwriters. There’s ambition, but ambition doesn’t excuse being annoying. The lyrics feel like they’re trying to be cheeky but land somewhere between smug and cringe. The guitar tones sound like they were pulled out of a cereal box. It’s got overcooked experimentation, but none of the spark. Not unlistenable, just not great. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions: - Silly Love

Sounded like a bad version of I am the egg man by the Beatles lol

Fav: Wall Street Shuffle

Honestly a hard listen. I’d rather listen to Sparks or Todd Rundgren

I wanted to skip the first song, then they told me they were the worst band in the world. The third track started like a bad trip. Didn’t like the way the sound made me feel, so I turned it off.

It's very quirky and at times the beats can be quite catchy, but it didn't feel like anybody was taking it seriously and so I struggled to find the point to it all.

Whimsical 80’s sound, but too chaotic for me. Loved the opening song. The second song is bad. Do not make a bad song about being a bad band. By song 3 this felt more like a compilation than it did an album.

The only 10cc song I knew previously was I’m Not In Love, which I’ve always disliked. Impressively, they managed to completely dispel the notion that they were a ‘gloomy synth ballad band’ within the first 2 tracks - turns out these guys are fun, and weird, and they rock (a bit)! Alas, from that point on they took it too far, and some of the styles and quirks they explored in the rest of the album irritated me more than they charmed me. Even a song about my favourite Goldeneye 007 character couldn’t redeem it. I’ll give this 2.5 stars, though perversely I have actually gained a new respect for Stockport’s finest and their modus operandi.

Not memorable for me. OK, not bad.

I don't know if the stereotypical theatre kid existed in the 70s, but if they did, this was probably their bible. Sounds like a bunch of theatre kids making music for other theatre kids.

More brit pop.... So this isn't good to me. I think they were going for funny or clever at the very least. Yet at best I raised and eyebrow and went, why is this on the list? I've now listened to it twice and I still question it. Is there some band that attributes 10cc as why they became a band? I'm just not hearing it.

I was excepting and hoping for some deep cut Yacht Rock a la "I'm Not in Love." What I got seems to be the original cast soundtrack of an off-broadway show that opened and closed on the same night in 1974. Things have changed for me and 10cc.

Nope, didn’t really like this. There was so much going on but it all felt very incoherent. They try too much to really succeed in anything. Some songs were just outright annoying, like Hotel and Clockwork Creep.

Stupid.

Boring. Unremarkable. 2

Some songs were Zappa-esque but otherwise nothing too special. Wonder what album was booted from the list to make space for this one

Legitimately offended by this Best Song: N/A Rating: 2/10 (Horrible) Stars: 1/5

not my favorite honestly. it’s fine tho!

Soft rock with progressive touch. Sounds bit like Paul McCartney and Wings and very much a product of it's time. The very dry 70's soundscape and the mix is technically really enjoyable. On the other hand the songs on the album are quite mediocre nonsense pop with a slight progressive twist. Maybe the album is worth 2,5 stars, but more leaning towards 2 than 3.

It was an album! 4/10

Here we have Steely Dan’s less serious cousin, Irony Dan.

Moderately painful…weird proggy operatic stuff from a two-hit wonder band from the 70s. Probably should be a 1, but it’s kind of interesting so glad that I gave it a listen but once is enough, so this gets a very charitable 2.

Like Queen without Mercury's range or pathos, but instead replaced by a self-congratulatory sense of humor. A bit of a shame since some of the musicianship undergirding all the "cleverness" isn't bad.

I don't need music to be reverential, & think silliness and irreverence can very much have a place in all genres. But the silliness here was just annoying, like a comic who's trying too hard & then gets made when you don't laugh.

This is the same band that did "The Things We Do For Love" late 70's pop hit... this earlier album is far different. It was fine with a blend of Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel like jams. Hotel is actually really fun. I have to take it down a star because their bio's first line explains what the band name means. Gross.

Nerd rock. Didn't enjoy it especially

Definitely a funky album. Not sure if I can get down with it

Was the project to write an album where every song is a new genre? Strange listen. I don't think this is good but it isn't done poorly. I don't want to relisten.

Conspiracy theory: There is a rich family that owns a lot of coconuts paying to have songs made about coconuts constantly. There are Queen comparisons, but the vocals just aren't as strong and the transitions feel jarring at times. I might try and dig deeper someday just for insanity reasons.

Sounds a lot like a lot of other bands but I just didnt like this fusion. Glam-prog sounds like my nightmare too

This is the type of album where you say" I do not get it" and a fan of the band would than say you are too dumb to get it. Well ..... I am too dumb.

⭐⭐ Not for me

Completely disjointed Avant Pop.not totally awful but couldn't get into it with the different things tried on the album.

I had a hard time getting into this one. It just felt too goofy to be taken seriously, but too serious to be funny. Left it for a day and when I came back it sounded even worse.

Not much to say here other that it just doesn’t really do it for me. Chuckin it in a box that says “adequate classic rock”

Какая-то хренатень

Hokey as shit.

First song is a banger but the rest of the album was not so good..

I loved the first track but it didn’t keep my attention throughout

Probably more fun than I thought Musically entertaining yet overwrought

Not my favorite kind of noodling. I won’t be returning to this.

Chyba sluchalem, ale nie pamietam. Lekkie, wesołe rytmy, słabo zapada w pamięć i brak chęci powtórek.

I had no idea who these guys were until I listened to their top tracks. Obviously familiar with I'm Not in Love. I really want to like them. They're weird and silly and clearly having a good time. I did enjoy some of the tracks but it wasn't enough for me.

Didnt really catch my attention- just seemed like generic 70s rock

Kinda forgetable, only 2 stars was because i had heard wall street shuffle

Didn't really care for it. I was a little surprised, was expecting standard 70's rock.

Had a good time!

I listened to it once and have absolutely nothing to say. I don't really want to listen to it again, but as a compromise I will, but on 2x speed Nah, still nothing. There's another way. I will slow it down instead. 0.1x speed Wow, you should hear the 0:48 part, the vocals potential is fully realised there I'm retarded and now my head hurts

Bit dull

Having a track called "The Worst Band in the World" on this garbaggio album is ragebait in the extreme.

Odd. Found some of the weird sounds in this quite interesting but the songs & 70s production didn’t really sell this to me as an album. Too many styles thrown together here for me to keep track. A mixed bag.

Bummer that this doesn’t have their hits. But it was nice of them to warn us in the title. It is indeed sheeeeeet music. This feels very much like a parody record. Like, they were just trying to make each other laugh by making the weirdest, cheesiest pop album. It’s Zappa, but with less disdain for the audience. These are well-trained musicians, making intentionally asinine prog pop, with perfect production standards. This would be brilliant, if it wasn’t so bad.

Gear: Focal Clear (ZMFed) Artwork: 🟨🚉🎨 Production: 😐🙂👌 Music: 🎹🎸🎤🧪🤯😵‍💫 Rating: 🟨🟨/5

Tried to like this one, but it just didn't go far enough for me. The vocals are generally off-putting and the overall direction is a bit too abstract for my liking. I enjoyed some of the lyrics, but wasn't invested in listening too closely

From the moment they implied a swear word they are too chicken to use, I knew this would be a wishy-washy disappointment of an album. Well sung, decent musicianship, but boring and heartless.

If I was making music in the mid-seventies, I’m sure it would sound like this. That said, I hate it.

Didn't feel that this was actually that strong

I like 10CC but found this boring and un-inspiring. Trivia note: I understand the 10CC represents the average amount of male ejaculation at climax.

Beatlesque, and I wish there was a bit more variety per song

Had quite low expectations given the title name, but not too bad after all PS it got bad PPS and then better PPPS what a roller-coaster

Really didn't know what to expect from this and did not enjoy it at all really..... I know dreadlock holiday, which is good, but not on here unfortunately. Not really sure who this is for, but it ain't me!

I had my headphones at max volume previously for a Zoom meeting and accidentally blew my eardrums out with mid-tier yacht rock. I can't think of a worse way to go deaf.

I wanted to like this but it's a bit of a shambles really. I like 10cc, they are clearly having fun but this is very etherial. Maybe I need another listen or two.

I love a lot of 10cc music, but this is not my album.

This album was mid, idk if they just release playful songs and accidentally release a banger once in a while. 2.5

Another band I know exists and that's about it. According to my Last.fm stats, I listened to one of their song, three times. Well that was a handful. It seems the band had no direction whatsoever, they just made music in what ever style and direction they please. I think the first track had a guitar tone I really liked, aggressive low grumble, but it never came up again. The whole album is all over the place, I mean with better guitar sound and fuller production, the song "Baron Samedi" could be a Santana track. There are few great songs on this, but for the most part I find it too scattered. It's like listening to a mixtape, but all tracks are played by the same band. It's kind of unsettling. I just realized this is the band with that hit song "I don't like reggae, I love it" a.k.a. "Dreadlock Holiday". Holy shit.

CHYANGE YORE MINDDDDD

One good single ("The Wall Street Shuffle") isn't enough to rescue this mix of pretentious waffle and "show tunes".

just ok.

I didn't dislike it but wondered why it is here.

If you put it on wouldn’t hate it but I don’t see myself going out of my way to listen to it

Had never heard of them. Not a fan. Sounded like the soundtrack from an off Broadway musical.

This was pretty awful - not sure what it is doing here

Almost sounded like a parody

Honestly I found it a bit irritating to listen to. It's trying to do way too much. 2.0 stars

If you came looking for songs like I’m not in love you’ll be disappointed much like I was

Everything needs to be viewed in context, and in 1974 some amazing bands were releasing amazing music - and then there is this festering turd that creates the new genre of annoyance pop. Sadly it’s much better than most music today but in 74 not so much.

??? wasn’t particularly offended by this but pretty random and i don’t know why it’s included in this - even 10cc themselves have better albums LOL no standouts tbh, every song felt like 67 ideas all thrown into one

Like a more pretentious less talented Queen of the same era

Just can’t get into it

This was just weird and not in a cool way.

Worst Band in the World is a good song. Started off really fun but just got worse. Biddly music

I remember getting this album back in the day because I thought I liked 10cc, I checked it out of the library and returned it the next day.

Well that's answered the question that no one was asking: "what if we took the bad parts of the White Album and wrote an album along those lines". Poor man. Very very poor.

This band sucks

dont love it as much as their 70s albums

Solve for c: (Queen+ELO)² - (Freddy Mercury+Jeff Lynne)² + (0.9 x Santana) 10cc = __________________________________________________________________ Musical Theater + "Art" + Prog Rock Show your work.

Got though half of this album before giving up. Unlike the timeless albums from the 70s by bands like Led Zep and Pink Floyd this sounds very dated. It's no bad per se, but I really couldn't get into it 2/5

An album if Queen/Sparks rejected b-sides.

I really wanted to like this album, because the group showed a lot of promise throughout the record. Unfortunately it feels like when they were asked what direction they wanted to take the album, they just said “YES”. The sound is all over the place, and not just track to track, which wouldn’t have been as big of an issue. The problem is that many of the songs are jumping around in style and with no flow to it, just jarring transitions. This just feels like wasted potential, and sadly not an album you must hear before you die.

These guys can't pick one idea for a song. Like, you'll get 30 seconds of one style, then they'll completely change for another 45 seconds.... Then change again..... It's jarring and annoying. Why is this album on this list? Utter garbage. Favourite songs: The Wall Street Shuffle, Oh Effendi Least favourite songs: Clockwork Creep, Somewhere in Hollywood, Baron Samedi 2/5

Jumbled style. Have to wonder whether this was their best album. Knowing this list, I have a suspicion it was not

Bit too broadway-esque for me. Not really my thing.

A little goofy. Maybe just not in the mood for this today

this 2 stars means it was by no means bad and definitely not the worst thing I have ever listened to but also highly likely I won't revisit except for a few singles... I did appreciate the range as they really are all over the place but for me this was also what I didn't like about the album as it feels so unorganized

I’m not overly familiar with 10cc, but I enjoy the radio hits. This album leans into the Queen-inspired show tunes vibe. Unfortunately, they weren’t as successful. It takes a lot of cajones to write and release a song called “The Worst Band In The World” on an album like this. Not my cup of tea, but may be enjoyed by others. High 2

Not a bad pop hit band from the 70’s. Some good hits.

som legal. Uma mistura de som dos anos 70 tipo beatles, rolling stones com música da broadway. Musicalmente agradável. Porém, não ouviria de novo. Cansa e não é o que eu gosto apesar de ter algumas guitarras interessantes.

Alkaa parilla kovalla stygellä, sitten laimenee huomattavasti.

Worst band in the world seems harsh, but it's not great

I had been excited to hear this as there was a 10cc album in my home as a kid that had some memorable songs on it. This album was not the same. This one held my interest about as much as a tsp of ejaculate, which for me, is not much.

Good music, good message, awesome cover art but for some reason I cannot stand the vocalist, very agitating after a full listen

Listening to I’m Not In Love as I write this, and I’m really impressed by how well it’s able to keep up it’s momentum executing a pretty niche idea over the course of a 6 minute run time. I think it’s helped by a very strong melody, and a commitment to relative simplicity. Take one idea and execute it well with a strong musical foundation. It’s the basis for a lot of good music. It is not the approach 10cc use throughout Sheet Music, which is a shame. I think a lot of this is quite good, but could definitely have benefitted from an editing process. It’s trying for Maximalism, while their best song works because of it’s simplicity. I’m sure someone who’s more into maximalism, and maybe more into Roxy Music, would find a lot to appreciate in this. But sadly, I am not that person

I remember these guys from the 70s. They were too sweet and pop for my taste back then, and this album sure didn't do anything to change my mind to the contrary. Meh.

2.3/5 listened 1x.

*Sheet Music* should please the weirdo living rent-free in my head, always in the lookout for off-kilter sounds and loony songs and artsy shenanigans (or even *mock*-artsy stuff of the same ilk). Does it, though? All the songs are interesting in their own right, like an amped-up version of Steely Dan's mix of unexpected modulations, sophisticated arrangements and tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. With a lot of hairpin curves when it comes to the use of instrumentation, and a bit of Paul McCartney, Sparks, Queen, post-*Pet Sounds*-Beach Boys and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band thrown in. The thing is, as a collection of songs, *Sheet Music* fails to leave a somewhat cohesive impression as a full-blown artistic statement. It's not because you run all over the place and refuse to use by-the-book standards that you have to indulge in a fully automatic-mode way to create an LP worth of its salt *as a whole*. Of course, I get that 10cc consciously used a let's-throw-everything-at-the-wall approach and then thought later about how to make what sticks the landing stand out. But what you get from *Sheet Music* is that *almost nothing* stuck. As conceptually wild and unhinged and goofy as all the other artists I've mentioned up there can be, their best work had enough highlights on a purely pop compositional level to make their projects shine as a whole. But this is not the case with this 10cc album, lining up different song sections as if the vocal lines and chord sequences used in them didn't really matter. What I can salvage from this record are the cuts "Wall Street Shuffle", the delirious and 100% meta "The Worst Band In The World" (of 'workinonit' fame, thanks to J Dilla's sampled use of that vocal snippet), and that extraordinary, hectic art-pop composition about the fear of flying, "Clockwork Creep". Plus the tropicalia parody that "Hotel" is if I'm in an ironic mood. But everything else blurs into the same indistinct wishy-washy pointless self-indulgence, with many harmonic and rythmical twists and turns that soon manage to cancel each other. I'm still glad this app made me discover those songs, loony to a fault, and this very interesting album, whose contents are miles aways from the band's most famous hit, i.e. dreamy and synth-heavy ballad "I'm Not In Love" (which I love, personally, even if the album it's from is underwhelming as well). But to me 10cc is not a *stellar* album band. It's just an interesting curio from times long gone by now. 2/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums. 7/5 for more general purposes. Number of albums left to review: 139 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 369 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 218 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 278 (including this one) PS: Spotify's algorithm made me discover Brian Protheroe's *Pinball* right after *Sheet Music* was over. It's also pretty goofy, off-kilter seventies music, yet it's also much more focused and inspired as a whole. Exactly the sort of qualities that are lacking in that 10cc album. When an algorithm does better than human beings to suggest music of a certain genre (or even music actually going *beyond* the concept of genres itself), I think we can all start to worry a little, right?

There's some truly awful stuff on this album and I couldn't make it through a complete song. I also really regret having Googled what 10cc means. Giving this a 2/5 is pretty darn generous.

Ambitious but mid

Very strange. Didn't hate it...

10CC has a lot of good songs out from the 70s, but none of them were on this album. I could barely listen to this.

6/9/24 heard “worst band in the world” and was like damn where have i heard this song. plays in the beginning one of dave chappelles standup. i liked most of it, not bad. 5/10

This album did not move the needle for me. It sounded like culturally appropriated music for a band that was constantly on vacation and wanted to let world know about where they had been. Lyrically and musically nothing seemed dynamic or awe inspiring. It was just there.

Respect, I guess. They’re studio lords. Funny songs. Maybe a bit too meta for me.

Was looking forward to hearing this album because I was obsessed with “I’m not in Love” and “The things we do for love” when I was in high school. What a disappointment.

Seemed a bit all over the place

The musical equivalent of that kid who goes a little too hard in every class, especially dodgeball, and really just needs to tone it down a little. 2 donuts out of 5 🍩🍩

I thought I would like it but I did not. Not at
