I need to dive into this more - only time for one listen today but this was giving me major Sparks/ELO bonkers pop/proto new wave energy. Lots of variety and energy. My default for all ratings is a 3 and you can either earn or lose from there - this is earning one because it tickled my ears enough to make me want to come back and check it out some more.
What a fun album, it’s like Steely Dan and the Electric Mayhem doing a joint concert.
Perfectly weird and schizophrenic!
I really enjoy more thoughtful pop, which is I guess what this is. Theatrical pop? Some super catchy bits that cut themselves short, but that is probably on purpose. It's all well sung. Sounds like it would do well on Broadway today, there's even a little prog in there. The ballad-y stuff is less impactful, but overall it's good fun.
It is amazing this came out in 74. I didn’t know what to expect but I enjoyed this album.

These guys can't pick one idea for a song. Like, you'll get 30 seconds of one style, then they'll completely change for another 45 seconds.... Then change again..... It's jarring and annoying. What a delightfully funky time! It transported me back in time to a place of carefree glee. What a vibe!
I like on the nose, absurdist stuff, but this almost winds all the way back around to unpleasantly earnest. L
Not sure this is the album but 10cc is rather underrated these days. The two writing partnerships - Goldman and stewart and godley and crème are superb. This might have been better as a greatest hits or the album with I’m not in love. But this is a good album from an always interesting team.
Not a review. Definitely sounds early 70s and very English. Almost folk, with embellished as intelligent, psychedelic, or as humour? But perhaps too insular and rarified to translate beyond a very narrow group and time period. I think to understand it you need a deep appreciation for the Magic mother one where it really shouldn't be in the list except for academic interest or to tick a box on a MICRO GENRE. Merrigoround and a taste for Python, which makes very obscure white dude music. This goes onto a pile with about 20 albums on it already form this list: Albums - "other - only of passing interest" 20th century music, (including obscure micro genres no one will ever listen to again) ... This is really pushing the limits of pointlessness. I mean why is it on the list?
At the time this was released, 10cc were a singles band, as far as I was concerned. And a good one. Rubber Bullets was outstanding. And the opening track here, Wall Street Shuffle, was really the only track I was familiar with from this record. Then, in 1975, they cracked it big with the worldwide hit single, I’m Not In Love. It’s interesting that most of the band think that Sheet Music was “the band’s zenith”. Personally, I think their 1976 album, How Dare You! is far & away their best album. But Sheet Music is still a winner. As usual all four voices & the harmonies they create make for an enjoyable listen. And no other band sounds like them. It’s the two sets of very different songwriters combining to do something quite unique. And they don’t just take turns at providing a song, they engage within a song. As usual Godley & Creme are the pricipal songwriters, with 4 of the 10 tracks; Stewart & Gouldman provide 2; but then there are tracks from Creme/Gouldman, Creme/Stewart, Godley/Gouldman & Godley/Stewart. I’m pretty sure this cross-pollination among 4 very talented songwriters is what makes this album a good listen.
This album is why we needed punk. Overworked, clever clogs pop music. In a way this is worse than prog rock (hock spit) or Steely Dan (shudder), because we are expected to have fun and sing along. Which I absolutely cannot do. I find this almost offensive in its pretentious mediocrity. The jokes aren't funny. It's only redeeming feature is its brevity.

Gee I would love to give this inventive, creative, and influential record a 5. But holy fuck did that opening song fucking suck. Seriously I don't think I've had that visceral reaction to a song yet in this generator. Terrible. Everything else though is glorious, sounding both exactly like a 1974 record and also nothing like a 1974 record
Iv only ever heard dreadlock holiday by 10cc therefore I assumed they were a Reggie/ska band. Therefore this album was a pleasant surprise. Don’t get me wrong the albums all over the place with a million different ideas, but it’s worth a listen at least once so gets 3 stars from me.
i LOVED this album. i listened to it six consecutive times. starting off really strong with "the wall street shuffle" and ending almost as strong with "la effendi," i was captivated from start to finish. i also really enjoyed "clockwork creep," "baron samedi," and "hotel." the vibes were immaculate and every song pulled me in. all in all, this is definitely one ill come back to again and again.
Bit too broadway-esque for me. Not really my thing.

10cc's Sheet Music is very much a quirky album; I can't think of any better descriptor. I mean, when you have a tongue-in-cheek song like "The Worst Band In The World" or a song that begins with "hey toots" ("Silly Love") or pun-filled lyrics ("The Wall Street Shuffle") or a song that creates a dance named after a body part ("The Sacro-Iliac")--well, I rest my case. Unfortunately, the second half of the album fell off some. The songs were still quirky, but didn't pack the same punch as the first side. Regardless, 10cc made an album that is just silly and enjoyable.
Well this is an odd album. I had not heard much 10cc before, let alone an entire 10cc album. What I had heard before did not prepare me for this; I had no idea they were so zany! They know how to bring out all the weirdest aspects of the 70s. Truly, it's like a clash of some of the most notorious acts of the decade, cranked up. Overall, I found this to be fun, light listening. But when considering the album as a whole, they had a LOT of different ideas going on here; I don't want to say the album lacks cohesion, but...I'm not sure how else to describe it. Some of the ideas work here and some of them don't.
this 2 stars means it was by no means bad and definitely not the worst thing I have ever listened to but also highly likely I won't revisit except for a few singles... I did appreciate the range as they really are all over the place but for me this was also what I didn't like about the album as it feels so unorganized
Too much going on in every song. Some had good parts but then they threw in 12 other songs/genres and made them boring songs that kept going. Some songs seemed to be directly pulled from Paul McCartney riffs (1985, Long and winding road) Sometimes the Grateful Dead reared its ugly head into these songs too. Maybe this album was interesting in its time, but exhausting to listen to today

I’m not overly familiar with 10cc, but I enjoy the radio hits. This album leans into the Queen-inspired show tunes vibe. Unfortunately, they weren’t as successful. It takes a lot of cajones to write and release a song called “The Worst Band In The World” on an album like this. Not my cup of tea, but may be enjoyed by others. High 2

I can’t tell if this is satire or genuine. They run through so many different genres it feel like they have absolutely no sense of identity . Like I def recognized the band, beach boys, Beatles, among others idk but it was fun
I saw this and thought, "10cc?! What, an album full of "I'm not in love"?" Turns out this is much more eclectic than I expected. Some upbeat head-bobbers, a couple quirky numbers, and Queen/McCartney/ELO vibes in a few places. It sounds like they were trying new things and having fun, and I appreciate that. 4.0

Why is this record here? It’s not that great, in fact I did not like it at all.
Bluesy pop-rock written by absolute dorks. You're never super sure what you're going to get on the next track, and the whole album suffers from this "what's next" feeling. You can tell all the musicians are fantastic, both writing and performing, but it just doesn't gel here. I do get some vibes of what would become Queen later. Favorite tracks: "The Wall Street Shuffle", "Silly Love"

Worst band in the world seems harsh, but it's not great
I had been excited to hear this as there was a 10cc album in my home as a kid that had some memorable songs on it. This album was not the same. This one held my interest about as much as a tsp of ejaculate, which for me, is not much.
A somewhat inconsistent album, that had some fun songs, but also had some cringey songs that sounded like they were straight out of a musical.

Listening to I’m Not In Love as I write this, and I’m really impressed by how well it’s able to keep up it’s momentum executing a pretty niche idea over the course of a 6 minute run time. I think it’s helped by a very strong melody, and a commitment to relative simplicity. Take one idea and execute it well with a strong musical foundation. It’s the basis for a lot of good music. It is not the approach 10cc use throughout Sheet Music, which is a shame. I think a lot of this is quite good, but could definitely have benefitted from an editing process. It’s trying for Maximalism, while their best song works because of it’s simplicity. I’m sure someone who’s more into maximalism, and maybe more into Roxy Music, would find a lot to appreciate in this. But sadly, I am not that person
I remember these guys from the 70s. They were too sweet and pop for my taste back then, and this album sure didn't do anything to change my mind to the contrary. Meh.

Classic rock? A very unique sounding album though. I don’t know how to explain it, but almost sounds like the soundtrack to a musical with the singing style and bits of comedy thrown in. I feel like I need to listen to it again.

My only knowledge of 10cc is from the guardians of the galaxy soundtrack so my expectations were pretty ambivalent to low which turned out in the albums favor. It started out pretty lame but gradually got more interesting as it went along even if it was only in brief moments and not any single song was a banger from start to finish. Baron samedi cane the closest though.
Well, whaddaya know…album number 730. Those of you with PhD’s in Mathematics are probably recognizing the significance of that number, but for the sake of clarity, it means that, as of today, I have been doing this challenge for exactly two years. …and before the Gregorian Calendar buffs get all “uh…ackshually” on me: Yes, I realize it’s a leap year. I don’t care. Today is the day I celebrate and how do I celebrate? Just like I did last year…with a little roast of the users of this site. So in that spirit, here’s a spicy little text-based meme I cooked up in honor of the occasion: Day in the life of an average 1001 albums generator user: “I’m going to to do the 1001 albums challenge to broaden my musical taste” [gets recommended any album that doesn’t comport with mainstream sensibilities] “No, not like that.” Now, as for this-a-here record by 10cc: While that meme is more than fitting, I’d also like to share this endorsement of this utterly strange and wonderful rock record: IT’S NOT SHEETY AT ALL. In fact, it’s pretty great.

I wish more albums were as conceptual as this. Worst Band in the World is hilarious in its self awareness, especially him breaking down the fourth wall at the end talking from the piece of plastic with a little hole in the middle, asking/begging to be faded out. Great record.
*Sheet Music* should please the weirdo living rent-free in my head, always in the lookout for off-kilter sounds and loony songs and artsy shenanigans (or even *mock*-artsy stuff of the same ilk). Does it, though? All the songs are interesting in their own right, like an amped-up version of Steely Dan's mix of unexpected modulations, sophisticated arrangements and tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. With a lot of hairpin curves when it comes to the use of instrumentation, and a bit of Paul McCartney, Sparks, Queen, post-*Pet Sounds*-Beach Boys and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band thrown in. The thing is, as a collection of songs, *Sheet Music* fails to leave a somewhat cohesive impression as a full-blown artistic statement. It's not because you run all over the place and refuse to use by-the-book standards that you have to indulge in a fully automatic-mode way to create an LP worth of its salt *as a whole*. Of course, I get that 10cc consciously used a let's-throw-everything-at-the-wall approach and then thought later about how to make what sticks the landing stand out. But what you get from *Sheet Music* is that *almost nothing* stuck. As conceptually wild and unhinged and goofy as all the other artists I've mentioned up there can be, their best work had enough highlights on a purely pop compositional level to make their projects shine as a whole. But this is not the case with this 10cc album, lining up different song sections as if the vocal lines and chord sequences used in them didn't really matter. What I can salvage from this record are the cuts "Wall Street Shuffle", the delirious and 100% meta "The Worst Band In The World" (of 'workinonit' fame, thanks to J Dilla's sampled use of that vocal snippet), and that extraordinary, hectic art-pop composition about the fear of flying, "Clockwork Creep". Plus the tropicalia parody that "Hotel" is if I'm in an ironic mood. But everything else blurs into the same indistinct wishy-washy pointless self-indulgence, with many harmonic and rythmical twists and turns that soon manage to cancel each other. I'm still glad this app made me discover those songs, loony to a fault, and this very interesting album, whose contents are miles aways from the band's most famous hit, i.e. dreamy and synth-heavy ballad "I'm Not In Love" (which I love, personally, even if the album it's from is underwhelming as well). But to me 10cc is not a *stellar* album band. It's just an interesting curio from times long gone by now. 2/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums. 7/5 for more general purposes. Number of albums left to review: 139 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 369 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 218 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 278 (including this one) PS: Spotify's algorithm made me discover Brian Protheroe's *Pinball* right after *Sheet Music* was over. It's also pretty goofy, off-kilter seventies music, yet it's also much more focused and inspired as a whole. Exactly the sort of qualities that are lacking in that 10cc album. When an algorithm does better than human beings to suggest music of a certain genre (or even music actually going *beyond* the concept of genres itself), I think we can all start to worry a little, right?

Poppy and yet still creative and unabashedly weird. I love how eclectic and catchy it is. It's almost prog pop at some points. Killer!
This band feels somewhere between Queen and Sparks, with some Cheap Trick and ELO mixed in. I think the Queen comparison is the most apt, they're obviously technically proficient and can write songs, but they dick around too much and it comes across as annoying. If I had this on a bad day I could see myself giving this two stars, but right now there's too much quality to ignore and I did enjoy most of the album.

There's some truly awful stuff on this album and I couldn't make it through a complete song. I also really regret having Googled what 10cc means. Giving this a 2/5 is pretty darn generous.
They’re all self-aware jesters doing their best to make us giggle and I really appreciate that. Finally something from the 70’s that stands out a bit! Still not some generational record, but at least this had lots of character. Almost a 4 star from me
Ambitious but mid
Not as good as their subsequent album "The Original Soundtrack", but still a classic. Revolutionary at the time, but beginning to sound a bit dated now. Contains their hit "The Wall Street Shuffle".
This is a pretty solid 3. Inventive and interesting and progressive without feeling derivative of other stuff that does those things.

This album did not move the needle for me. It sounded like culturally appropriated music for a band that was constantly on vacation and wanted to let world know about where they had been. Lyrically and musically nothing seemed dynamic or awe inspiring. It was just there.
Fun album. One of the records that inherited from my papa but never took the time to properly appreciate until now.

The only time I've listened to this band previously is the song "I'm Not In Love" from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. It's a great song, but it's not on this album. Hearing "The Worst Band in the World" for the first time is super weird for my brain since it was heavily sampled and reshuffled by J Dilla for his song "Workinonit". This is a solid 70s pop rock album, nothing else to say.

Ze doen gemiddeld 5 genres per nummer en niet alles slaagt. Integendeel, meer slaagt niet dan wel. Maar ik vind het wel echt fucking hilarisch. Als je 5 minuten hebt, luister dan even naar Hotel. Wat de FUCK is dit??? Er zitten opera elementen in, er zitten reggea elementen in, er zit pop in, er zit rock in. Ik geloof meteen dat de makers ontzettend veel plezier hebben gehad aan dit album, het is een soort idiote all you can eat geworden. Meteen ook een issue; all you can eat is toch vaak alles een beetje meh, en dat is hier ook het geval. Nergens springt er iets echt uit, het klopt allemaal niet helemaal. Maar het is wel een hilarisch album. Ik ben echt aan het twijfelen hier, het is gewoon niet heel goed, maar het is wel echt vermakelijk. Ik kies hier uiteindelijk voor een lekkere 3 sterren. I'm not a fan of the casual racism. But I do like weird. And this is certainly that. I don't know. Did it move any boundaries? Am I likely to ever listen to it again? I'm confuzzled. I'm not sure how to feel about this album.
Was looking forward to hearing this album because I was obsessed with “I’m not in Love” and “The things we do for love” when I was in high school. What a disappointment.
Totally unexpected, considering I always thought 10cc was just one-hit wonders with that soft rock hit. Also surprised; I liked it.

Much better than I expected definitely will listen again. Starts out a bit of a mess and gets better as it moves along. Reminded me of Fiery Furnaces in its scattered yet rich approach and tapping of genre.

As a fan of Tenacious D and Weird Al, I like a good comedy rock album, and kinda disappointed I hadn't heard about these guys. Several clever songs that had me smiling while giving this a listen. I'm not sure how well they will hold up to a repeat listen once I know the punchlines of the songs and the novelty of finding this unexpectedly is gone. - There are some creative moments on here, particularly some quirky guitar slides and some bizarre lyrics. But this all honestly sounds like the discount version of a half-dozen more cohesive bands, such as the Beatles, Rush, etc. - I enjoyed the goofiness of "Hotel" but it does not gel with the rest of the album. Also really liked the opening moments of "Clockwork Creep," but my interest does not hold up for the whole track.

Glad I listened to this. Really only knew them from the Lock Stock soundtrack (Dreadlock Holiday). They play around with genre through a slightly bent 60's neo psych lens. Some clever/humorous lyrics. Band of goofballs. Stands as a worthwhile listen but probably just select tracks make a regular rotation from this one.

Soooo... _not_ the album with "I'm Not In Love" on it? Is this another Dimery L? This was a fun listen! Way proggier pop rock than I was expecting - like a mashup of Queen and Sparks. I guess "I'm Not In Love" is pretty experimental when you get down to it, so I should have been expecting the unexpected... Fave track - "Clockwork Creep", I think, but it seems likely different tracks will stand out on repeat listens!

Funny, catchy, outright bizarre sometimes. But that's what makes it fun. I feel like some of the tracks were too out there for me to really get into, but I see and appreciate the creativity and originality put into every track. A very enjoyable listen. Don't think I've ever heard "10cc"? 'I'm Not In Love' however goes straight into my playlist of These Songs. This album? It's somehow music as spectacle. Why I don't like Queen. A series of amusement park rides. That really aren't all good.

This is the band's fantastic 1974 follow up to the previous year's debut which had introduced the nation to the talented combination of Eric Stewart, Lol Creme, Graham Gouldman and Kevin Godley. Each member could write, sing and play and were responsible for witty lyrics and a varied range of musical styles. The album kicks off with the hard rocking single, 'The Wall Street Shuffle', swiftly followed by 'The worst band in the world'. The excellent 'Clockwork Creep', which is sung from the point of view of a timebomb on a plane, epitomises the inventiveness of the band's songwriting. (The song's refrain would later be recycled as the intro to band classic, 'I'm Mandy, Fly me'.) though my favourite track has to be 'Silly love'. The album closes with 'O Effendi', the lyrics of which are, shall we say, of their time! The went on to even better things, particularly the following year's 'The Original Soundtrack' and my personal favourite, 'How dare you!' from 1976, the final album for the band's original line-up. Nevertheless, 'Sheet music' is a really great album.

Thoughts before listening: I've heard of 10cc but I know nothing about them. I feel like they maybe had a couple hits in the 70s but were never huge stars. Maybe more of a critic favorite type of band than one that was selling out arenas. Review: Well this is definitely eclectic. I am getting a bit of a Steely Dan vibe with their melodic, poppy take on rock music with irreverent lyrics and varying styles mixed in throughout. "Clockwork Creep" namechecks Chattanooga in the lyrics so thats an immediate add to the playlist. I also like "The Wall Street Shuffle" and "Silly Love". Overall this is a fun listen that I can tell was likely a favorite of many 80s era indie and college rock bands, especially someone like Ween who was doing their own ironic takes on different styles not typical of a rock band. 3-stars cause while there are good songs its a little inconsistent.
10cc’s Sheet Music feels like a huge joke.The theme of the album is funniness, and just random vibes. I liked it at first on the first song, The Wall Street Shuffle, and on Silly Love, because these two actually had some cohesion. I had previously heard of the artist but knew none of their material. This album is a but silly, and I don't really mean that in a good way. I am ok with a silly song or two to cleanse the palate in a particularly heavy album, but this really isn't that. The whole album is like that, and I found it to get old after a few songs. Was ready for it to be over by the halfway point.
Starts off well, but got bored pretty quickly. Enjoyed spotting the J Dilla samples in Worst Band In The World.

On the fence about this zany rocker
This got boring quick. I was overwhelmed by the general lack of any sort of hook, just noises, some of them pleasant, but nothing catchy. It felt a bit progressive in parts, then more poppy by the end. Nothing special and I can't see any reason for this to be on the list. Two stars for a drab experience.

It should've been The Original Soundtrack, if only for I'm Not In Love. Regardless, Sheet Music is still a great display of 10cc's innovative songwriting. It's as if they listened to a lot of Beach Boys and decided to do more of that but really experiment with it. 10cc is still very clearly a pop band making pop music, but their construction of pop music involves doing a lot of things that other pop rock bands wouldn't do. It results in an infinitely more interesting record, one which I enjoyed thoroughly. Is it a bit campy at times? Sure, but it keeps the ball rolling so well that it never bothers me at all.

There’s a kid I know from school that thinks he’s the funniest person in the world and does standup comedy. The thing is, he’s painfully unfunny and the “jokes” in his routine just kind of boil down to talking in weird goofy voices. I feel like this is the demographic that this album is tailor-made for. Sorry for being a hater, but this album pissed me off so much that now random kids from my past are catching strays. See what putting bad albums on here does, list maker? First song was cringe AF. i knew i was fucked from there on out…. Each song sounded like some guy having a manic episode and singing what was going on his head. I hated it dude. I hated it.

Wow. There are so many reasons why I should have thought this was too smooth, too proggy, and should have disliked this album, but I didn’t. The songs are super clever and play with their own structure. The lyrics are actually funny, which bands can often hit the mark on. Overall, a really fun album.

A great pop rock record that definitely knows how to parody some of the trends of the time but also be a surprisingly very fun and at times even a bit relaxing listen. From the straight rockers like The Worst Band in the World and Silly Love to the more pop-centric and quirky tracks like Clockwork Creep and The Sacro-Ilaic, there's a bit of variety here without feeling out of place.
I have never heard this album but I had two of their albums, The Original Soundtrack & How Dare You which I always enjoyed. This album is for sure a 10cc album (all the 10cc sounds) but can’t say I liked it on par with the other two albums I’m more familiar with.

This very much sounds like a band that doesn't take themselves seriously. They're just having fun and doing what they want, throwing music styles at the wall and seeing what sticks. As a listener, the fun is infectious. The songs are just fine, nothing special, but the playfulness of this record seeps through the speakers and you have to give 10cc props for that. Not what I expected from the guys who I only know for the song I'm Not in Love. Standouts are The Wall Street Shuffle and Oh Effendi.

The album is continuously full of surprises, but loses cohesion and direction as a result. Discovering J. Dilla's Workinonit sample was a great surprise, and "The Worst Band in the World" is probably the highlight record off the album in being exciting. Latter half of the album loses some steam.
A wild sound for 1974! I would've guessed closer to the 90s. Honestly this was fresh to listen to.

Ya ever hear an album and it has like every idea all going on at once and it never quite coalesces? That is precisely what’s going on her in spades. It’s progressive rock that’s progressing too fast. From one place to another with not even time to smell the roses.

Ok, so not what I was expecting from my experience with 10cc. I love a bunch of their songs, but this was a while different vibe. The early tracks were cool and kept me interested, but it faded out early and just fizzled. As an album this is a fail for me.
It’s wacky but I’ve listened to it a few times and really enjoyed parts of it. Nice to have something completely different but they could also write a good hook to be fair.
I was not aware of 10cc before this, and I was really surprised by that. What a wonderful record. Love it.

This was kind of fun in a bit of a ridiculous way. The first song is a fairly detailed look into life on Wall Street, and the second song is about how they're the worst band in the world but still sell a ton of records. The whole album is just a bit kitschy, but I can get on board in a somewhat ironic way. It falls off a bit after the beginning for me, but there's a few decent songs buried in here. There's not much on this that's going to have much staying power for me, but they're definitely a bit more outside-the-box than some of the other '70s rock, so credit for taking some chances on this. I actually weirdly like this. It’s all over the place, and some strange songwriting, but every song on this was an enjoyable listen. A 4 star rating in my rating system is for albums I enjoyed and would come back to again, and this certainly fits that criteria.

Back in the days of Winamp and local MP3 files, 10CC was the first artist that would play on my playlist every time I opened it. I had 6 or 7 of their hits in my collection and grew quite attached to them over the years. Unfortunately, none of those songs I loved appeared on Sheet Music, which I thought was weak and largely lacklustre.
It’s alright. Wall Street shuffle is the only song I would say is worth listening to. Lots of ideas but not very refined.

Oooh - I love “I’m Not In Love” and “The Things We Do For Love”. Give me some great easy 70s tunes. To my surprise this was nothing like the only two songs I knew from 10cc. This was wild, progressive, funny dealing with some offbeat and unexpected topics like Wall Street and pelvic joints. I really loved it!

J Dilla jumpscare on the 2nd track, always fun to hear the original from a sample you've heard a million times. As a whole though it's actually a really fun listen, great balance of catchy pop/rock songs with some slightly more experimental stuff. Sticks around for a cool 40 minutes and is done.

Did not have high expectations for this album considering all of the mid-tier 60/70/80s music that I have experienced so far in this list. What started as a pleasant surprise lead to me discovering what seems to be a hidden gem. Baron Samedi and Oh Effendi aren't just fun song titles to say, but sound like they should be classics you hear on throwback radio daily. Wish every album on the list was this surprisingly satifsying. 4/5 or 86/100

What a great band 10cc are! This is a marvellous album, with the first two and the last couple of songs in particular highlights. It sags slightly in the middle, and for me, they're a band who will almost (I'm Not In Love excepted) engender respect and admiration rather than love. There's a tiny bit of emotional heft missing from their songs that stops this technically excellent band getting into the five star realm.
Nothing expected from this one but, i don't know how, but 10 things simultaneously somehow works, either this is a luck or maybe these things come to mind on LSD, acid or something(i don't know). Favourite song(s): "The Wall Street Shuffle", "The Worst Band in the World", "Hotel", "Clockwork Creep" laughed at this one. Side One 5/5. Side Two 3/5. Overall i wanted to give this 5/5, but side one was much better than side two. At the end i'm gonna give this project solid 4+/5.

This was an interesting album. I see why it isn’t super popular, but they were kinda ahead of their time.
it is an album: this just felt really average. From an album from the mid 70s it was nothing that stood out that much. Feel I have listened to many better productions and could find many more which wouldn't be included here. A couple of good tracks but the rest was literally drivel.
The Wall Street Shuffle- Ok, on the whole I liked this I guess 👍 The Worst Band In The World- They said it, not me! Hotel- Me when I’m being abducted by aliens and then I have to perform a Beach Boys tribute act so they don’t kill me Old Wild Men- I like the instrumental, the vocals are a bit TOO earnest Clockwork Creep- this must be what adhd feels like 👍 Silly Love- just embrace that maximalism 👍 I have to applaud the audacity, but still, maybe take a couple things out next time 2/5
The closest thing I've heard to this might be Of Montreal, or early Queen, or... I don't know, maybe some other 2000s indie pop kinda stuff, maybe a little Steely Dan? It's an interesting one for sure, particularly for when it came out, so I think it deserves the 4. I'll probably be coming back to this soon.

Interesting album! Never heard before, but I was hooked with the first song. I really liked their funky and a bit odd melodies. The song was also interesting, reminding me in some ways about Supertramp. I think the album held up all the way through, and they managed to distinguish themselves enough from other rock to hold their own! The only lame thing was their juvenile band name, which gets old instantly.
The opening "The Wall Street Shuffle" had a great opening riff and generally a cool song so I had high expectations going it to the rest. The rest of the album failed to deliver though. The songs are all over the place with a mix of progressive rock and soft rock, not a great fan of either genre though I dabble here and there. Wasn't too impressed.

December 24th, 2023 HL: “The Worst Band in the World”, “Hotel”, “Wall Street Shuffle”, “Clockwork Creep” Musically, it’s a smorgasbord of forward-thinking bops. Lyrically it contains some stuff that could just as easily be left behind in 1974.

I was not prepared for this. I knew virtually zero about 10cc beyond their yacht rock hits. Whoah. This is like Nilsson and Donald Fagen dropped acid and decided to write a prog-leaning, occasionally Caribbean flavored Broadway show, then grabbed a big bag of weed, hired Sparks as their backing band and hit the studio. Super weird, yet oddly compelling!

honestly, nuts to the haters. this album was great. it was wild and wacky and all over the place, but in a fun, tongue-in-cheek way. the biggest knock against it was the unnecessary sprinkling of racism across a few of the tracks. hotel, baron samedi, and maybe oh effendi all felt a bit unsettling to listen to in those sections, like hearing an uncle you always thought was kinda cool spout some nonsense at a family reunion. the use of AAVE (or i guess whatever the British equivalent is) just looks bad, especially 50 years later. otherwise, the songs were fun and interesting. some felt like 70s classics, others could've been written in 2009. hotel sounds like a flight of the concords or vampire weekend song. clockwork creep is like freddie mercury singing in a musical showstopper. old wild men seems to be poking fun at bands like led zeppelin, which I'm always here for. in summary, this is like steely dan + queen + meatloaf + talking heads + elvis costello + novelty records from the 50s + L + ratio + first single failed to chart. this feels like a band that john flansburgh of they might be giants would love. also their band name is bad. favorites: basically everything. old wild men and baron samedi are probably my least favorites of the bunch

Is it possible for a band to have too many ideas? 10cc is an undeniably talented band but this album can feel a little exhausting. The songs are mostly Beatlesesque pop, frequently dipping into Queen-level theatricality. It’s smart stuff but maybe too clever for its own good? I respect that they take a lot of risks but most of it didn’t work for me.
Really full sound right from the start. Wasn't expecting that at all. This album flew by, I don't even know what I was doing. I enjoyed it throughout and the humor was a nice facet of the sound, even though I think comedy intermixed with music is often kind of touchy and definitely tends to be tied to a period of time which can hurt the experience when listening years later. It also tends to kill replay value for me. With that being said, I liked this. 3/5.
