Reviews (page 7 of 8)

I have admission to make. The song Faith is one of my guilty pleasures, i think it's simple and clever and it makes me smile. Then comes another global hit and another one, but also this growing sense of manufactured nonsense, like trying to be Prince but with no edge and no cool. After the songs I've had enough and the rest is the worst drivel I've clapped my ears on for ages. Stop it

Not a fan of George Michael. The title track was barely passable - Limp Bizkit's version was better, and that's not a particularly high quality song either. Couldn't stand I Want Your Sex. Too artsy fartsy. Not for me.

Disappointing. I love George Michael's voice and I knew and liked the title track. I found the rest of the album very 80s and unmemorable. Sorry, George.

Yeah, Ann loves eggs. Sometimes, she puts mayonnaise in her mouth, then she puts the egg in there - She calls it a "mayonegg!"

Faith is a great song, but a bit misleading in that this is the only song on the album that comes close to that level of pop perfection. Maybe my expectations were too high based on that song alone, but this album was a total slog after that song. It takes itself incredibly seriously, and the music feels heavy and joyless. Just not my thing.

Ugh such a disappointment. Faith is a great opener, and maybe the only good song on the album

2.5 - not an unpleasant listen by any means. The singles are still great, and overall he gives a much better vocal performance than I expected. But the bulk of the record just doesn’t really connect with me and sounds a little like a pale imitation of great Prince stuff of the era.

The more I hear about George Michael, the more I tend to admire him as a person. This record isn't my cup of tea though.

I was a little shocked at the weakness on the non hit tracks

it’s iconic but like…….. no

This is pure 80s music. If I grew up in the 80s I think I would love this album like no other. But as I don’t I can appreciate the sound but it just doesn’t hit the way I want it to.Definitely a fun and informative listen but prob wouldn’t come back to it.

Middle of the album just kinda blurs all together and I think they all sounded similar. Faith is a banger, and I really liked Kissing A Fool, but past that it was alright. Monkey was also weird AF. Forgot how non-subtle cocaine in the 80’s made a person

It's the polar opposite of what I like musically.. Though it's better than most of the pop albums on this list.

Racy pop tunes for broad appeal. A couple are kinda interesting. There are far worse records of this style out there.

A couple of classic pop songs and a lot of junk.

Wish we could give half stars. Prob a 2.5.

Faith is an immediate banger. Too bad it was the only good song on this album. I Want Your Sex song may be a top 10 worst songs of all time. Too long of a cheesy 80s album. Not for me. Lowest of 2s

Faith just brings me back to when Broccoli Rob stole the Nard Dogs signature song with Here Comes Treble, not to mention steals his nickname of Boner Champ. Either way Faith is a pretty solid song. Look at this guy with all of his sex. I understand why this is on here because George Michael is a pop icon, but damn this is shite. This is so lucky I’m in a good mood otherwise this is an easy 1 without Faith

Уф. Лучшая песня - One More Try.

Well-polished pop which sees Michael aiming for peak Prince and kind of succeeding. As a pop record, it has aged fairly well compared to some of its peers, thematically, though, it seems a bit old hat - I remember the furore calling a song "I Want Your Sex" caused back in the day, it all seems a bit silly now. Decent effort from a likeable artist with a great voice and more musical vision than he may often be given credit for, but not really my cup of tea to be honest this one.

Hat viele Hits, aber verliert mich vorallem in der zweiten Hälfte sehr.

Meh at the time, meh now.

I like the song “Faith” more right now than I ever have. What an infectious little song! I love the melody, the acoustic guitar-based arrangement, and Michael’s playful vocal. It really is a fantastic pop song, and for me, it kicks off the album perfectly… …but unfortunately, it immediately ventures into territory that is not my favorite. I can see why some might admire the lyrics and song structure of “Father Figure”, but those breathy, whispery, Prince-like vocals are always a big turnoff for me, and the 80’s adult contemporary sound is just too much. However, “I Want Your Sex” almost torpedoes the album completely for me. I understand that for many, this is fun, danceable, etc. For me, it is none of those things. It is cheesy and cringeworthy. And although “Father Figure” made me vaguely think of Prince, I found myself thinking “I Want Your Sex” was a complete ripoff. When I realized it was eight minutes long, it was simply too much for me. I think what a lot of people hear as infectious, I hear as annoying. It was very hard for me to sit through. “A Last Request” also veers a bit too much into that adult contemporary sound, and “Monkey”, though not on the same level as “I Want Your Sex”, is still synthpop that really grates on me. There were other songs and elements I appreciated; although I don’t love the keyboard sounds on “One More Try”, I think his voice sounds really great, and I like that instead of building into this huge, bombastic soundscape, he keeps the arrangement pretty sparse and allows his vocals to provide all the power it needs. “Look at Your Hands” and “Kissing a Fool” were also fine enough, but for me, nothing comes close to the title track. Obviously, I lean towards more organic sounds and styles, so there is a lot of bias for me there, but sonically, it’s the only song in the album that I would ever want to return to on a regular basis. 2/5

#789. Not great overall. 2/5: meh

Struggled to finish this one. Definitely not a fan. 2 cause I could finish it.

I don’t think George Michael takes enough heat for putting Limp Bizkit on the map

Fine I'll listen to it but I'm reading it now. 4/10

Not my type of music at all unfortunately. 3/10 Favourite track: N/A

I wanted to like Georgie. I love Faith, Father figure wasn’t bad, but it was all downhill from there. Just campy and 80s and so passe.

White mj

i'm so glad this stayed in the 80s. the back end was better but the first half was so cringe Would I listen again: no Deserves to be on this list: yes 3.2

80s pop was pretty bad

George Meh-chael. This wasn't what I wanted it to be. A lot of slow songs, not enough fun songs.

Can’t say I’m a big George Michael fan but Wham are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Particularly 12” remixes of their big hits. I also loved Careless Whisper for personal reasons. Today 10th November 2025 Last Christmas came onto the radio for the first time to my ears so that was a bit apt. None of that relates to this album but shows how I am struggling to come up with any positives. But George was a flawed character and talented musician who died tragically much too young. 2/5 10/11/25

The first two tracks were our favorite. The rest was muffled by someone else’s road rage.

I'm not a big George Michael fan, but there's no denying that Faith (the song) is an absolute classic. Sure, it's overplayed to bajaysus, but at its core, it's a fantastic song. Faith (the album), on the other hand is a bit meh. There's nothing particularly terrible, but nothing particularly memorable either. It's an easy listen, but after Faith, everything else is a bit bland.

Great Singing Voice, songs are freaky when you listen to them closely lol “You don’t need a bible just look in my eyes I want to touch you” I don’t think he didn’t have a song that didn’t say something about touching people lol

Today I was surprised to discover just how commercially successful this album was. In the decades since this was released, my estimation of him as a vocalist, songwriter and performer has increased significantly, but never enough to make me consider checking out his albums. This was a nice opportunity for that, but I didn’t find myself a convert. There are some good melodies, some catchy hooks, occasionally some decent gospel style chord changes, but not enough of any of these positives. The production often seems unfitting for the material, the track sequencing seems off and there’s far too many bland tunes. Apparently he looked at Prince and MJ and decided he deserved the success they were having and fair fucks to him for making it happen…I just can’t believe he managed it with this album.

I want your sex, hyfsat svängig Prince-pastiche. One more try, riktigt trist. Andra halvan av skivan betydligt svagare. George Michael har en rätt anonym röst. Det saknas tryck, vilket gospelkörerna oftast avhjälper. Texterna är rätt trista och fulla av klicheer

George Michael makes me angry because he is sooo talented but all of his music is… ……..

this just sounds like a shitty, white (derogatory) Michael Jackson cover album. It’s pissing me off that this is on the list

Nothing to get too exited or too annoyed about on this, but i was secretly kind of hoping that this would have been better pop record

First song gives good vibes and promises cool album. However, the album does not deliver on this promise at least to me.

Pop music is boring. Songs are predictable in structure, sounds like whatever else is the fad at that very moment, lyrics are lazy stories about wanting to fuck someone in thinly veiled metaphors. I knew three songs before listening to this album, since they were force fed to the late 80's MTV generation, which by coincidence is also why I stopped watching anything else but the specialized programming I was interested in (I find it incredible they lasted this far in time, but I digress). This seems fine tuned to young girls taste, in a kind of generic producer's business mindset way.

Faith and Father Figure are great opening pop songs. This is then followed by I Want Your Sex which is none minutes of squelchy silly nonsense that killed the albums strong start. And this is immediately followed by a dull ballad. At this point I was struggling to continue. Things picked up with the funky bass of Hard Day and Casio keyboard beats of Hand to Mouth but my attention trailed off a few tracks later around about when George was singing about a monkey of some sort.

Sorry George, I think you were probably a really nice dude but this is just not my vibe. The title track is good though.

Meh. it’s all about the hits

Not as good as I remember from my childhood, but the title track still fucks.

2.2 1x cant say i enjoyed it, but Faith has been heard so many times, some decent memories

A side is hilariously awful. So corny, so horny, so cringy. He starts off pleading for her body, then when that doesn't work says he'll be her father figure, then on the next track tells her he's not her father and she should have sex with him even if she doesn't want to. B side is surprisingly ok after hearing the first half. 2/10 but mostly because it made me laugh.

Day 50 Really like the first 2 songs which obviously get a lot of radio play but didn’t find anything else here I’d return to. 5/10 Highlights Faith Father Figure

I remember this album when it was first released, and I didn't really get the hype then, and I don't now. It's a typical pop album and while "I want your sex" is a good track, many of the other tracks just blend into one another.

I liked it until it was everything about sex

Faith is a good song, but the rest 👎

Best Track - "Faith"

I expected to dislike this more. There's not a ton of substance to this album but there are a couple tracks on this that are undeniably catchy. 80's Pop music may be by definition one of the genres I tend to like the least, and while I wouldn't say I clicked with this album, I don't know if it's fair to say I disliked it. So points for that!

I was expecting a much more corny 80s production on this one, but was surprised that wasn’t really the case and I actually enjoyed a few tracks. That said, it’s still not for me and I was honestly just wishing it would end for at least half the album.

Token slur here. Why *should* I like this?

I was horribly snobby at the time and though I was too good for this bland nonsense. I was right.

George Micheal did not die of aids, whoever said that was lying and most probably homophobic. It was an okay album, not my thing personally.

Faith is great, I Want Your Sex is fun, Father Figure can be cast into the sea, and the back half of the album is full of mushy ballads. 2.5

Was George Michael just junior varsity Prince, discuss

Not for me and I don't really see a place for it on this list

Faith was everything

If Michael Jackson and kungfu panda had a crossover.. the first few songs were so bad, but it got better. I liked kissing a fool.

The opening track is spacious and rocks along smartly. Much of the rest is a bit gloopy.

I can see the value in this album but I don't like it. Monkey is just plain bad. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5

“I want your sex” is what a middle schooler would do when tasked with writing a song about “Sex teehee 🤭” I’ll just listen to Duran Duran instead.

I like the song Faith, but the rest of the album Faith leaves me cold. I was glad when it ended.

Not for me...

Meh...

i swear i’m not a prude but i just can’t listen to this D1 freakery on a tuesday morning, there r some bangers on here but 7 mins of begging someone to bang u is just not my jam sorry mr. michael

Pros: -attempts to destigmatize sex and queer sexual orientations during a politically conservative era -talented vocals Cons: -multiple creepy and unsettling lyrics -ick production choices

Well, I listened it. You defs hear the cocaine. It's the most upbeat skeazing I've ever heard.

The opening double of "Faith" and "Father Figure" are really excellent. Sadly the rest of it is bland and cheesier than a Barry Manilow outfit.

Faith // 1.5/5

Never been a fan, still not. Not to say he's not talented I suppose, just not for me. The title track is the only passable one, the rest really wasn't up to much.

My inner pop personal leapt out when I put this on. I spent my teens steadfastly avoiding George Micheal, public toilets and also lorry drivers just for good measure. At the time he was a figure of hatred for me, encapsulating pompous 'me me me' pop. Im sure you are now thinking dear reader 'he hates it, get ready for a 1 star!' Well, yes and no, as i seem to have mellowed somewhat and now wear infra-red glasses, and i finally appreciated this for the masterpiece it actually is. It's well written and performed. I shall give it the highest i can score it in all good faith.

Hard giving the icon this low a score but he has so much better music this album just dragged on for me

I'm the wrong kind of gay for this, George Michael doesn't exactly have a lot for the sapphics. I'd probably be able to tag along for the ride, but the '80s are also one of my least favorite decades for mainstream pop music, and this is an album that features a lot of the production attributes that usually drive me away from this era. Everything has that sort of cheesy sheen that a lot of '80s pop music seems to. And the songs are kind of campy, but not in a way I really resonate with. The result is that these are catchy, well written songs, and George Michael is a strong presence, but I just don't really like much of what is here. The Title Track sort of grew on me, Hard Day is sorta funky, and I like Hand To Mouth. Although, I really don't see myself returning to any of the songs here. Although I would like to make a special mention of I Want Your Sex (Pts. 1 & 2), which I can't say I love, but it is genuinely fascinating. This is a 9 minute epic about, you guessed it: sex, which features a little break where we get lyrics like "sex is natural, sex is fun, sex is best when it's one on one" which sort of makes me feel like I'm in some bizarre sex education class in high school or something. I understand that this would have seemed a little more daring at the time, but now it is just sort of bizarre and quaint. It baffles me that this is a song on an album that sold 25 *Million* copies. Anyways, as much as I don't really like this album, I can't really feel any negativity towards it. It's just sort of having a good time, and who would I be to stop it. Plus, I'd like to give some bonus points to George Michael for making such an unrepentantly gay and horny album for the mainstream in 1987, I have nothing but respect, even if I can't entirely resonate here.

I guess the singles can be fun in a nostalgic way if you were around when it got released, but the other songs are a drag.

''Sex is natural, sex is good Not everybody does it But everybody should Sex is natural, sex is fun Sex is best when it's one-on-one One-on-one Hoo-ah (Sex) I'm not your father Hoo-ah (Sex) I'm not your brother Hoo-ah (Sex) talk to your sister Hoo-ah (Sex) I am a lover Hoo-ah (Sex) Woo-ooh, ah Hoo-ah (Sex) Hoo-ah (Sex) Ow! C-c-c-c-c-c-come on (Hoo-ah)'' Give me a fucking break.

There's nothing for me in here. No matter how good George Michael's singing is, I always fail to connect to this style of slow and intimate type of Pop music from the 80's. Giving it 2 stars because his voice is pleasent to listen to.

Sweaty, gay, and horny hits. First half is pretty good, second half is a bit too 80s ballads for me, they don’t hold up or maybe I don’t do enough cocaine.

Dadefür segi doch zwei Vater unser bim Mastrubiere.

Wasn't a huge fan. First three songs are great though

Expected to like this more than I did but it fell off after the first couple of songs

Faith is a great song— there’s some cool tracks throughout, smooth jazz and drum beats. The sex song is terrible though, and even though the lyrics say this isn’t going on, it seems like he’s singing c-c-c-c-cum

A 9 minute song about how George Michael wants my sex? Wow Georgie, if only I’d known sooner… I’m glad that he clarified that he wasn’t my brother or father too. Although that was a bit confusing considering that the previous song he promised to be my father figure. I mean what was going on in the 80s man? Whenever time travel is invented, the first thing I’m doing is going back and taking their synthesizers away. Just awful. He tried to be George Michael Jackson, but he could only achieve George Michael Bluth. The fact that this charted at all is bananas (How much can it cost?), much less that it was #1 for 12 weeks. Oh and I’m glad that he clarified in the final song that he did in fact want to have sex with me, I wasn’t sure. Faith is a banger though.

He's trying his hardest to be hot and sexy but all I can imagine is him going up to a random woman in the street, getting on his hands and knees begging to fuck.

What a creepy album

Mid 80's radio trash, thanks album generator

Faith good tune first heard out after lockdown.

Very cheezy

I am sorry George Michael, but you cannot have my sex.

I Want Your Sex is so stupid and kinda gross and 9 minutes long. Could be my first 1-star album but I don’t know… Faith is good.

George Michael was once a candidate to replace Freddie Mercury as Queen's lead singer. If you haven't heard his version of "Somebody to Love" at the Freddie tribute concert in 1992, go right now. It's phenomenal. This isn't. Faith is a catchy tune...and that's about it.

I never listened to the entire album back in the day. It has not really dated at all. I remember it was very edgy then, and now it just sounds like bad pop music. 2.5 stars

I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a George Michael solo album all the way through before, and what better place to start than his debut, Faith? There are moments I genuinely enjoyed—especially the opening two tracks. The title track "Faith" is undeniably brilliant, and "Father Figure" also stood out as a highlight. However, much of the album didn’t land for me. Songs like "Kissing a Fool" and "Look at Your Hands" felt like filler, and I couldn’t really connect with "I Want Your Sex" either—it just didn’t resonate. Overall, Faith strikes me as a very dated slice of ‘80s pop, heavy on the sex appeal but light on substance. It’s not something I’d revisit. Favourite song: “Faith,” with “Father Figure” as a close second. Least favourite: “I Want Your Sex (Pts 1 & 2)” didn’t do much for me, and “One More Try” felt quite dull. Album artwork: Very cool cover—simple but iconic.

Generally it was ok. Though I didn't like it that much. Maybe it's the type of music.

The production on this is so very 80’s in the not good way. Faith is a good song I just wish it was longer. Maybe I just don’t really care for George Michael.

He's pretty straight for a gay guy

It's okay. Not my style. Too old-timey. BUT Kissing a Fool is now one of my favorite. So thanks for that

Overall: 3/10 Faith is such an incredible song that I kind of got my hopes up. I forgot that this was a pop album from the 80s, which means they made one REALLY good song to sell some absolute pandering garbage. I liked a couple other songs but for the most part this is some sappy, oversexualized crap. Oh well, I guess I gotta have faith. Fav Song: Faith Least Fav Song: Father Figure

Mostly slow and boring. Some cool parts but mostly uninteresting

Not a fan. Did not expect this.

There are a couple of classic songs here but the majority of it is hopelessly dated. Not too bad overall though.

Good album not me thiugh

Maybe listing to this album at work in an office environment wasn't my best choice. I thought it was fine, but it's not anything I would come back to. "One More Try" was my favorite track.

For an album that apparently spawned so many incredibly successful singles, I was surprised at a) how few I'd heard before and b) how ordinary I found most of them (the title track is a notable exception on both counts). Despite the variety of styles it all sounds incredibly 80s production-wise, and that's a bit of a turnoff for me. I'm not sure there are too many great songs hiding between the synth pads and drum machines either; it definitely feels like George is the star here, rather than the music. 2.5

So 80s poppy

Very very funky

Not available on spotify. The title song is however 🤷🏻‍♀️

Meh. 80s pop

не смогла достушать... джордж майкл очевидно парень с приколом!!

🤷🏻‍♀️

Very 80s. I don't really know why he got so big tbh

Faith, Father Figure, and Look at your Hands are all good. The rest not my cup O tea.

I don't care about how horny you are, George Michael.

I don't really like this sound. Plus, the lyrics can be hilariously bad at times. "I Want Your Sex" sounds like a parody of an 80's sex jam. It's very 80's, and not in a way I like.

If I was rating George Michael as a human being, I'd rate this a 5/5. Unfortunately I'm only rating the music, which is okay pop hampered by some very dated, borderline creepy lyrics.

Type of airy 80s pop thats not for me

Didnt like it, but managed to listen to the whole thing

Pretty much exactly as expected. Maybe too much so.

Cheesy 80s pop. Not really feeling it.

Well that sure was some 80s pop. Luxuriously produced, quite polished, and incredibly syrupy. I wouldn’t call this terrible, I think it’s just not my taste at all. Best song: Faith

Okay. Preferred it to Prince in a lot of ways. Not an album I'll return to though.

See, I genuinely like George Michael as a singer, but one standout track aside, this sure is a collection of late 80s/early-90s synthpop/R&B/desperate attempts to be Michael Jackson that are mostly just... There. Point added for the title track still being a banger, then deducted for the number of times I thought "Wait, is this one still going?" (Sorry, George, but nobody needed 9 minutes and 18 seconds of Look How Heterosexual I Am)

Never been a fan of George, but I’m not too partisan about it, he’s just…there.

I mean, it's exactly what you'd expect from post-Wham!, bad-boy-image George Michael when he's trying to convince you he's still relevant - I prefer his later stuff, and even then it's not what I'd go out of my way to listen to. Faith is still kind of a banger, though.

A couple good songs but doesn’t have any oomph for me.

Just gross, but ⭐⭐because you can tell the producers and engineers worked really hard on it.

George Michael can sing, but the subtlety is not a strength of his. All these songs sound flat, like in an unfinished way, and another review mentioned that they've all been turned into club bangers. Which I'd agree with: just about any cover or remix is gonna have more verve than this. Compare to Prince, who took a different tack on sex as a subject matter, and had better musicality and more ideas, half a decade earlier. This is pointless until someone else comes along and spices it up.

Just another 80s pop album. Lyrics are unimaginative.

Boring

Some early promise quickly descended into mid-table mediocrity

Not the biggest George Michael fan. It was ok I suppose. 2/5

Faith is a good song, it all goes about rubbish after that.

ugh, i don't know. too much uhhs and ahhs and glamour in that one.

some interesting instruments I didn’t expect

Very 80s - but admittedly, a couple bangers (grading on a curve). The problem is, I just can't get past the cheesiness of it. It's 80s pop straight out of a lab, and that's just not for me.

Some truly great pop tunes from the 80s. As an album — a complete work of art — it’s only meh.

Breezy

Started so well

Ok, so George has never been my favourite and my review will reflect that I don’t get it? It’s just all a bit “meh”

I remember hearing Faith on the radio and how different it was compared to everything else. There were a couple other hits I didn't know were on this album. All the rest was filler. I wouldn't consider this an album album, especially one that must be heard in its entirety. So....

That wasn't as terrible as I was expecting, but I was expecting something horrendous tbf. Faith has been overdone so ignoring that. First half I didn't hate, I can see why he's popular with people with that particular taste in albums. By the latter half of the album I was lastine a minute or two then skipping. The actual music was boring tbh, beats were way too slow and soft. Nice voice, but not really my genre.

Meh. Fun pop but kinda mediocre in retrospect.

too safe, radio sterile

Sounded like sonic the hedgehog soundtrack

It has its moments, but mostly not my taste

I'm sorry this is just a bit too horny for me. And the songs don't need to be 5+ minutes long. Why is it that faith, the best song on the album, is fucking 3 minutes long when I want your sex is 9 minutes long!!!! Fav songs: - Faith - One more try

Title track is certainly well known, but I can't say it appeals, and nor does anything else here.

A bit... on the nose. In some places. It's a decent listen with a couple of well-known hits. Neither as amazing nor as trite as some opinions would suggest. Very mainstream, a little forgettable as an album, although some songs are undeniably fun. Hard Day is a bit dull. I agree with the reviewer on here who said that Michael Jackson did this kind of sexy/funky/R&B better. Percussion on Hand to Mouth is synthetics at its worst. The song is meh. Look at Your Hands: pretty cheesy music and forgettable songwriting. Decent R&B; a bit dated.

A lot of radio hits. Not my thing though.

Not really my thing, do like some of his other stuff

I was kinda on board with the first few songs, but it fell off pretty quickly.

Bro needs to get laid. Its ok. I think I’m supposed to like it more. I thought I’d like it more from the few songs I’ve heard before.

Começa jogando lá em cima o clima dos anos 80 com os hits, depois fica cansativo.

Ugh. Too bad this isn't Michael Cera's George Michael (Bluth, that is)... :) It's hard to not just pass by this album, having heard too many of the songs on the radio back in the day, but I guess even this album is worth listening to, and hearing songs that didn't make it on the radio. (I guess.) I hadn't realized until now that he actually wrote and produced nearly all of the album, nor that he actually *did* play multiple instruments on most of the songs (although his guitar "work" in the "Faith" video is supremely annoying, as he's not even trying to pretend that he's strumming anything like what the music is playing). That said, the music is so...blah...and was even then (to me), and some of the songs are just painful to listen to ("I want your sex" is a prime example, as it always seemed like he tried so hard to be manly in a very hetero way). But given its massive popularity, then and even now, that's a very minority opinion. I feel a little guilty giving this a 2-star rating, as it's not really fair to George Michael's legacy, but I really didn't enjoy listening to this album. And I really enjoyed reading somewhat recently that he and Andrew Ridgeley were avid Scrabble players, but it still doesn't make this album easier to listen to. Sorry, George Michael!

Just a breathy George Michael going on at length about how he wants to have sex with everyone

If you hear 'I want your sex' but you didnt want to listen to it, does that qualify as sexual assault?

Again, I'm not sexy enough for this.

If I was a teenage girl in the 80's I would have rated this higher, but I wasn't

80s chav sex music, but I’ll give it an extra point as Faith is a decent tune.

Very poppy but suppose that's the plan. Don't mind the occasional GM song but whole album is ott. Extra point for stoned ramming of snappy snaps.

Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 is definitely better than this. This was just so boring the whole time. I don’t like George Michael much but I don’t dislike him either. This album was very irritating though, and I kept pausing it to go listen to something else. Still, it’s not actively bad enough to be a 1 star album.

This man wants your sex. If you thought "I want your sex" was getting the point across, he is going to hit you part two and then for good measure, end the album with "A last request (I want your sex)." Sprinkle in "Father figure" and it gets really fucking weird.

One classic, one classic that I find questionable, and the rest just generic music for the era.

From Father Figure to Hard Day I fucking hated this album. The synths sound cheap like stock sounds off a Casio, and the lyrics are sexually aggressive and infantilize their subjects in a way that make George Michael come off as a pedo. The rest of the B side was much better, with Hand to Mouth in particular going pretty hard. There are some great bass tones here. It's unfortunate I had to slog through some miserable shit to get to it.

Thoughts before listening: I never thought I would listen to a George Michael album, but here we are. The title song is a great 80s hit and I remember liking it as a kid. I know this album has gotten more respect over the years than I remember at the time. In the late 80s/early 90s this was the pop music on MTV that soon became the antithesis of everything I became interested in as I entered my teenage years. In general I'm able to appreciate this type of pop music more as an adult than I would have back then, so perhaps I'll enjoy this. Review: "Faith" the song is still great. "Father Figure" has an incredible chorus, but the rest of the song falls victim to cheesy 80s ballad production. In general this reminds me as a lesser version of what artists like Michael Jackson and Prince were putting out in the 80s. There are some catchy songs here ("Hand to Mouth" and "Monkey" are my favorite deep cuts), but its just not for me. 2-stars.

i don’t know man

I don't like George Michael's music

I don’t this album is very good, but I enjoyed parts of it.

Not a big fan of the vocals, which is kind of a make or break thing for pop music (for me, at least). The ballads are all skips. The hits have been over played as hell for me as well. It's not the worst or anything, but I really don't think I'll ever want to listen to the whole thing again. Gonna call it an interesting artifact of 1987 and continue living my life lol. 2, mayyyyybe leaning 2.5.

I actually really thought I was going to love this album. George Michael songs you here are just such classics. Unfortunately this album fell into my pop album nightmares. The best song first and then just some honestly forgettable or slightly lyrically annoying songs. I enjoy this sort of music to an extent but these songs just dragged. Feels really harsh because there is no doubt he has created some of the best songs of this era/genre. But this album just was not it for me. A harsh 2/5. I couldn't even pick a 3rd Stand out song: Faith Look At Your Hands Quick side note hand to mouth sounded very very similar to The Offsprings "Come Out and Play". Obviously this came first I just could not get it out my head.

Well it’s a classic. Doesn’t mean it’s any good. 2 stars

Pretty dull for the most part.

Time and a place. Some bangers for sure. George Michael has a genuinely great voice. This style of music is just a bit too heavy 80s for me.

Just like the previous George Michael album on here, I just don't think I'm the target market for it.

This was okay. Nothing really stood out to me but the song I want your sex was super vulgar and off putting. may 2.5 stars. If I wanted to listen to 80's pop I'd just listen to the far superior Phil Collins.

oh no i dont like this i fucking hate the 80s. wtf was going in on the 80s ok so "kissing a fool" is pretty good

Gonna have faith this album is good.. it wasn’t

I feel like George Michael had sex with me on this record and then left in the morning before I woke up just to never contact me again. I Want Your Sex was a little much with the grunting and stuff. Honestly I did not like this album and it's not just because I'm not really into this genre. I feel like he's just trying to rip off Michael Jackson but make it more sexual? It was a pretty sleazy feeling record.

You can't have lived through the 1980s without hearing the title track "Faith" at least once. Apart from the title track, the rest of the album is nothing special as far as I'm concerned.

Other than Faith, which is a great tune, this is not something I'll come back to. I think it is very reflective of the music happening in that era, it's just not for me.

As far as 80's pop goes, this was better than some but still not my jam; I didn't like it but it could have been much worse. 2.5.

It was well made, but not the style that I would typically go back to.

Not a fan. The singles come off strong but the rest of the album really takes a dive.

Likte han bedre i Wham!

It’s ok. Faith is good, but the rest is take it or leave it

(min första text försvann, igen) Man vill ju inte vara homofob. Men detta är inte bra musik. 80-talet från sin sämsta sida. Syntar och saxofoner. Jag tycker inte ens faith är särskilt bra.

Faith is killer song. The rest isn't great

I’m just not a fan

man, i did not care for this album. it felt too harsh to give it one star but there's just not anything interesting going on here. faith is a solid single but it all falls apart after that. the lyric writing is so clouded by utter horniness that it manages to say nothing at all. all the music sounds the same, that late 80s/early 90s peppy but a bit sleazy pop sound, and I'm just not into it. favorites: faith

Not aged well at all

This album is very weird and creepy. I have no idea why Father Figure is so popular. Faith is boring and repetitive. The album has amazing production values, and honestly the music is pretty solid. But the lyrics and vocal accompaniment kills anything good here. Fav track: Hard Day

how can an album be so sexual and yet so boring

This one was so disappointing to me. I had high hopes from the first track. If he kept with the acoustic-funk type sound, I would've enjoyed this a lot more. But nope, he goes right into the 80s pop Walmart brand Michael Jackson shit.

Super generic 80s pop. Real honk shoo stuff going on here.

Today I realized…George Michael just isn’t for me. Faith is by far the standout track, but otherwise the songs just aren’t that great? Not a fan of the Synth-Gospel vibe he’s got going. His voice is amazing and gets some points, but otherwise it just doesn’t do it for me.

Despite the fact that I generally like that type of sound and era of music, I just could not get into this album. I think it’s Michael’s voice. The strings and background vocals detracted from my experience as well.

I'm sure this is for someone but that's not me. Everything feels designed to be on a radio and there's no feeling in it.

Faith is a solid jam but nothing else really did anything for me. Not a fan of this 80s sound.

Pretty boring but not the worst thing I’ve ever heard. I gave Bad by MJ a 3, so this has to be a 2

not my jam

George Michael whispering “sex is natural, sex is fun” over a bongo solo, is... not particularly sexy. 2/5

Hyväsydäminen mutta vähän mielikuvitukseton johdannainen.

not my kind of music ...

Nowhere near as good as Listen Without Prejudice. There are some strong tunes and it opens really strongly - once you get beyond the slightly odd church organ intro Faith really kicks arse. And there are some half decent other tunes as well - Hand to Mouth I enjoyed (and is an excellent title too). But. It just doesn't all hang together as well as it could do. There's a song on each side for the Wham! audience and that doesn't help - fluffy ballads for children. And he'd clearly been listening to 1999 when I Want Your Sex was being developed. To lots of people that might be a good thing, but I found the 1999 album utter shite. So, there's some OK stuff, some blandness and one bit of horseshit. 2.5, but the horse has shat itself too much for me so it's a 2.

Got bored real easy I mean I guess it's Pop. Is this before or after he was Outed not sure? It could have saticral undercurrents of societal oppression. Or could be a relief from him finally being free but i didnt pick up on this and thought it was a bit meh. Weird how throughout history society decided that sexuality is a moral and a political issue, where does that come from? Its a bit like having a go at someone for preferring cheese and onion to salt and vingear, its just a prefrence surely? Still hats of to George im sure he had something worth saying, not on this album though.

not my cup of tea

Really didn't know what to expect. Obviously I knew Faith which is great, and I do enjoy George Michael's voice other places as a guest vocalist. Overall this album was mixed for me. It was peak 80s, and not necessarily in the best way. I think it has aged a little rough. Some of the lyrics are actually interesting comments on society (Hand to Mouth), while some of just weird or overly sexually and seemingly trying to hard (I Want Your Sex), and some are somewhere in the middle (Monkey). Musically, it has a couple good songs, but other songs are kind of just there. 2/5 Favorite Songs: Faith, Kissing a Fool Least Favorites: I Want Your Sex, Monkey

Sleazy and uninspired lyrics over an OK accompaniment. Not shocking, just boring.

is this Christian pop? but about sex? I get tired of this sounds after a couple songs, it's kind of tinny and top heavy but I liked the slower/more vocal centric songs more

A bit corny and 80s as expected but the songwriting here is strong. I enjoyed it more than I expected.

There is an appropriately sexy time and place for listening to this album. Unfortunately, that time and place is not riding a city bus from downtown Seattle on the 4th of July. I wasn’t feelin’ it.

Not a classic

I can't believe I find myself analyzing this album so deeply. George Michael really tried to combine the sounds on big pop records of the time by Michael Jackson and Prince. It sounds cheap to my ears. There are monkey noises at the end of "Monkey." The songs themselves are fuckin weird. Is he singing about being naked with his dad?? Maybe I'm a prude -- OK, I am for sure -- but these songs give me the ick like a Tim & Eric sketch.

This is not really my style. Even “Faith” is worse than I remembered because of the bad mastering. It sounds like “Faith” is being played on a small speaker in another room.

this was pretty disappointing. there’s some good instrumentation but the lyrics are unbearably horny and it sounds generally pretty generic. i still have nostalgia for faith but that’s about it

Wham! better. I'll die on this hill. 🌟🌟

Do not like it that much and the type of the album it is in general, had some good songs but overall not my vibe.

i really like george michael, i think he is kind and sweet. deliberately championing goodness as a virtue should be a truism for normal people but its not faith is the only tune though

Faith is a killer song, but so many of the rest of these tracks just blend into one another

An absolute product of its time 😅 I find most of the instruments/effects a bit too zany to make the album a good listen. Gets a pass though because faith is a bop.

Cheesier than a Cheeseboard. A few decent songs but the it feels tacky now

AJ: Musically… 80’s pop madness. MORE 80’s pop madness. Ridiculous. Catchy af. Like herpes. This dude had to sing this crap his whole life!? Tour hotel room, sun’s coming up and no one’s slept yet….we can get down then. Other than that, keep guessing, Georgie. Yikes. Cat: I’m having fun. AJ: 🙄

Yhden biisin ihme.

Paikoin ihan toimivaa, mut nimikkobiisi Faithia lukuunottamatta ei taida tulla tarvetta enää kuunnella

Ugh. Faith is a fun song. But honestly this isn't my thing.

Faith lindo tema, pero medio pete El resto una poronga todos hablan de coger, tiene un tema de como 9 minutos que solo dice sex is good en loop Kissing a fool lindo temita me gustó

Better than I expected

Very samey

Actually expected more from this. Some good bops at the start, but by the end I felt like I was listening to a smooth FM channel at 2am and could have nodded off. Sidenote - it's remarkable that most of the British public couldn't tell George was gay based on the album cover alone. 2.5

I can't really believe Rolling Stone 500 greatest albums of all time 2020 it jumped to #151. Wtf is that?

Great voice but only really like 2 songs.

Oh gah. R&B is not my thing and this is SO SLEAZY, it practically oozes. I felt like I needed to take a brisk shower afterwards. I didn't like this when it came out and I still don't. I can understand why it's on the list, but it's not my thing.

Some good, some bad, no real standouts though Feel harsh giving a 2 but a 3 felt too generous

He’s got a voice for a pop ballad. Greatest hits probably would suffice with Georgey-Boy SoT Faith I want your sex (parts 1+2) Hand to Mouth 2/5

This album is kind of gross. The number of songs about sexual relationships that include references to patriarchal archetypes has really not aged well. It makes the attempt at social commentary towards the end of the album feel a little phoned in. At least the production is decent; lots of really great classic Roland patch sounds, and some super tight horns on the sex song that just completely does away with all lyrical nuance.

Interesting to learn that it's his first album and that he wrote so much of it. It's a bit too... forwards for me. The 80's be wildin' Worth another listen late night instead of 9 AM on a Tuesday. 2.5/5

Some generic 80s pop that's aged worse than a fruit fly. I mean... I don't hate it, but you wouldn't catch me listening to any George Michael in my spare time. Especially not the 9 minute long sex theme song.

A surprising start which was actually quite good. Then he went all whispery and it got boring.

"Faith" is a fantastic song, but the rest of the album didn't do much for me. "Father Figure" is a bit creepy, "I Want Your Sex" comes of like a bad Prince cover, but without any hint of innuendo or cleverness. "Hard Day" has a good instrumental with nice bass line, but I didn't think it was going to save the album. It rallied a bit in the second half however; "Look at Your Hands" is a good song, "Monkey" was a bit of fun, I guess, and "Kissing a Fool" was a nice bit of schmooze to round it off. Overall it's well produced and I see the appeal for some people, but the rest of the songs in between sound like something you'd hear in a dentist's waiting room.

Difficult one to pin down. The songs are a bit weird. A little disturbing at times. But George is a great singer and Kissing A Fool is one of my favourite songs. I’ve liked that one since 87… or whatever year it was that it was a single. Despite the collection of hits though, it is hard to like the collective. It’s kinda forgettable.

Some nice songs, some boring ones, overall just kinda "meh" on this one.

Ekkert spes.

Faith is great. Other than that, I keep thinking that the songs are a bit not great and a bit lazy. Then I keep catching myself grooving halfway through em. Goddamn 80s irresistibly

Some nicely crafted tunes

Faith is a great pop song, but I always found George Michael creepy. He's creepy when trying to cajole someone into having sex with him (I Want Your Sex) and obviously extra-creepy on Father Figure. Did he have to introduce fat-shaming of children into Look at Your Hands?

slow music

PREFS : Faith, I Want Your Sex (Parts 1 & 2), Look at Your Hands, MOINS PREF : Monkey

Without the sax, "Careless Whisper" boy is no different from other '80s pop-soul acts. Generic, pompous, and ironically not as sexy as they think it is.

Not my cup of tea

Honestly maybe not fully for me

It has some good tunes but apart from those few bangers its not that fantastic

not for me

2 Obv I’ve heard the song Faith before but I’m definitely more of a WHAM! guy. I know this album is beloved and I’d always meant to listen to it, so needless to say I was pretty excited to see it pop up today. Faith is still a great (if not a touch dated) song but it doesn’t seem indicative of the album as a whole. Fitting somewhere in between Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson, George Michael’s voice is just as immaculate here as in any WHAM! song I’ve heard. lyrically however it leaves a bit to be desired. Here we have another example of 80s/90s pop being all “ooga booga let’s fuck” with all the nuance and subtlety as a shotgun blast to the face. Musically it didn’t start picking up until One More Try. After that it was a lot less boring until the last bit, which just became kinda creepy. All in all not super impressed. I’d rather listen to Queen, MJ or WHAM! Favorites: Faith, One More Try, Hard Day

what an album opener! "faith" remains a classic, a huge hit, and its acclaim is well deserved today. if this album was full of "faith" on repeat, i wouldn't be upset and it would easily get a 5 rating. but this album contains more than just "faith," and it's disappointing and i'm disappointed it's disappointing. i listened to george michael's follow up album, "listen without prejudice, volume 1," before this album since it appeared for me first. i can't unknow what i already know and it's hard not to compare. that album has a lot of heart and strength. this album lacks the volume and emotion. after starting out so strong with "faith," there's only one other song that appealed to me. the rest wasn't noteworthy or thought provoking. i didn't even find the pop sound fun, like i do with wham!. very unfortunate.

I wanted to like this one more than I did. The song “Faith” is a great song and I’ve always loved the bass lines on it. I do enjoy George Michael’s vocals but I think the music behind it doesn’t always rise to the occasion. Not a fan of the production. Drums and horns can sound fake. Kissed a Fool is supposed to be jazzy but feels kind of like it’s sung over a generic backing rhythm a 90’s Casio. So much of it sounds too sterile to be sexy. I feel like the songwriting was not good enough throughout to make this a good album. I feel like there could have been a much better version of this album. Tough one to rate but I am gonna say 2.3

I thought this would put me in a gyrocopic sex mood but not really honestly a little underwhelming. Maybe it needs another listen but not up to the fuck snuff.

sings like he's having sex right there in the recording studio - it's a bit much

I was torn between giving this one 1 or 2 stars. It seems like a mix of the very worst of the backlogs of Michael Jackson and Elton John with a few snippets of half-assed jazz and funk thrown in. Definitely not the worst, but still very bad.

Really cheesy and not in a good way. I didn't dislike it, just not my thing.

This album reminded me of watching pop up video in the mornings before school, but it was my first time spending significant time listening to George Michael. I found some of the lyrics clever but most just had me rolling my eyes. Faith is probably the only song I would seek out to revisit, but of course being a 2002 graduate, I prefer the Limp Bizkit cover.

Not really my taste. The title track is catchy though.

some tracks are good for dancing, but overall not really my cup of tea

The point where George Michael's career turned. A poor man's Prince and in desperate need of an editor

Really don’t know how George michael got so popular. Poppy garbage.

16/08/2022 George Michael – Faith 2/5 A was quite excited to get something different after 3 60’s albums, and I never listened to George Michael albums before; but it has been kind of a disappointment. A pop album about sex and love (in that order), that is the summary. Nothing out of the ordinary, nothing special, one of those commercial pop albums that doesn’t transmit anything more than its surface, and there is nothing I have gained from listening to it. Maybe it’s not for me, maybe I have had enough with 80’s sounds; but I didn’t like it. Faith – 3.5/5 A good pop song, catchy and danceable, but nothing special in my opinion. Father Figure – 2/5 Listenable but felt a bit hollow for a ballad. I Want Your Sex (Pts. 1 & 2) – 0.5/5 Why doing a 3/4-minute normal pop song? Let’s instead do a 9-minute song that sounds the same all the time about sex, why not. One More Try – 3.5/5 One of the songs I actually like in the album. Transmit infinitely better that Father Figure and have a better vocal performance. A negative point is that it is kind of generic. Hard Day – 2.5/5 Good vibes, but again the same theme. Nothing remarkable. Hand to Mouth – 3.5/5 Again, not bad, and I think is my favourite in the album because its rhythm and its originality in its music. But it still sounds like generic 80’s commercial pop. Look at Your Hands – 1.5/5 Not as bad as the 9-minute song, but I don’t like George performance here. And again, my favourite word in this review, generic. Monkey – 1/5 I don’t understand how this could be a single. I can’t handle this song. Kissing a Fool – 2.5/5 Sounds good, but again, generic and kind of hollow for me. At least it has a very good vocal performance. A Last Request (I Want Your Sex) – 1/5 And the album couldn’t finish without repeating its message, SEX with capital letters. I think I have never listened to a hornier album.

Ikke min smak. Altfor kitch. Ingen låter som skilte seg ut.

Only knew Faith. The rest sounded like a mediocre 80s film soundtrack

I could never connect with this album and still can't. Nothing is *bad* at all...just the combination of GM's overly-breathy vocals (just *sing* already - what a great voice he had when belting it out but i feel like 75% of the time he adapts this annoyingly-faux-intimate affected voice) and it all sounding so very 80s just still makes it just sort of wash over me. It's fine - I'd even say well or superbly-crafted - I just have absolutely zero chills or connection to any of it at all. 5/10 2 stars.

I just thought i would find george michael more exciting. Its all a bit sparse. Not good sparse, dull sparse.

Aggressively '80s.

17th June 2022 Listened in the office on a very warm and sunny Friday with Joe. Met ebbs, Coopy and Jevans for the cricket. Faith is an absolute classic, the rest of it quite disposable but lacked the energy of the great opener. 2.5 if I could.

Highlights: Faith, I Want Your Sex. The rest feels like filler that hasn't aged terribly well.

I get why this album is included. It is great for its genere and time. It did not do much for me though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Can't say it blew me away

Faith and no more

80's pop. Can't fault the title track but again, light funk, blue eyed soul just doesn't hit the mark. The fact that some critics say this is one of the best albums of the 80's says volumes either about that decade or those critics. I can't decide which. Best Tracks: Faith; Father Figure; I Want Your Sex - Pt.s 1 & 2
