Reviews (page 5 of 8)
It was a great debut album but some songs lulled me to sleep which I wasn’t expecting.
Enjoyed the hits. Tragic life ending too soon. Needed some faith.
Hat ein paar Knaller, der Rest ist eher langweilig.
A very well produced album containing several hits. If you like pop music it’s one for you, I found it listenable but not something I’d make specific time for.
It barely made my okay ranking. I like the two hits, but other than that it just didn’t do much for me.
Faith and father figure are pretty classic tracks. The rest is kinda mid.
I'm really not George Michael's biggest fan. Not his biggest hater either, just whatever
the wrong side of Eighties
this site keeps giving me bullshit. GIMME A BANGER ALREADY i feel dumb asl, this was the guy in wham! how did not realize that fucking boring
Really liked some songs, didn’t enjoy others but can respect his voice greatly
Just not my jam
Gotta respect George Michael.
So, where do you go after the RocknRoll of Faith, seductive pop of Father Figure, disco funk of I Want Your Sex and blues of One More Try? Well, it looks like mediocrity! The opening 4 tracks are really good, if you pop off for a quick loo break during I Want Your Sex part 2, but there isn't too much that stands out beyond that. Releasing Monkey and Kissing a Fool scraped the barrel that was the George Michael cash cow at the time and the rest of the songs are just filler. A middling 3 stars because of the opening songs.
3.5
I like George Michael from what I have heard and I enjoyed the album but it isn't completely my jam. A nice change though.
Always been impressed with George Michael’s talent since learning he produced his own music.
Faith is such an incredible banger that I really had high hopes for this album, but it kind of runs out of steam.
What a horny, horny man.
Better than I expected. This album had a ton of great songs. Hand to mouth was a surprising listen
Det definitiva uppbrottet från Whams oskuldsfulla pojkbandspop. Mestadels bra låtar och stabilt utfört. Titelspåret är en odödlig klassiker. One more try är en snygg soulballad.
Starts off with a couple of bangers, then has a series of pretty good songs, and then ends with a couple of extremely generic tunes. 3.5/5
First two tracks are fire but idk if I’ve ever heard a cornier song than “I Want Your Sex”
This album make me wanna fuck
It has been 5̶ 0 days since my last George Michael album... well, who am I to complain, I'm having a nice enough time. This album isn't exactly my thing/I don't feel all that likely to revisit it at least in full (the title track I'd certainly come back to) but I respect it and found it fun at least the once through.
Mixed bag for me. Faith is a brilliant pop song, always liked that one. Father Figure is also good, if not a bit creepy, but then it ranges from boring to insufferable for a while. I Want Your Sex is a brutal listen. But just as I was ready to dish out a 2, it picked up again. I really enjoyed Hand To Mouth, Look at your Hands, and Monkey. Kind of a whiplash album, fine overall.
pretty good though selfishly i wish he had gone harder with the religious stuff Fav song: Father Figure probably
Sexy sexy George Michael Some religious undertones A lot of sex Many children have been conceived to this album George kind of trying to sound like Michael Jackson sometimes
Just typical pop of its time, no emotions.
I did dose off a bit, but the album is very fun and a little spicy!!
White boy r&b. Still fun. The title track is so much better than I remember it. Stripped down and perfectly simple. The title track to KISS’s 1998 dogshit single disc LP “Psycho Circus” on the other hand, is actually worse than I remember it being. Why does it exist if not to be used by the CIA as a torture device. Do yourself a favor and listen to “Faith” instead. You’ll have a much better time.
I feel like if you remove the track Faith from this album it's unbelievably forgettable.
Faith alone keeps this below 3, but there's not much to push it past 3.
I get the (sex) appeal. Nice songwriting coupled with a smooth voice, but I am not convinced of anything more.
While I enjoy Careless Whisper and Faith as a stand alone, these album song titles make me uneasy as hell. Like, why is there two (2!) parts to 'I Want Your Sex'? Now without looking at the titles and the lyrics (a common thing I do), the music is very fun and funky. It's just that George Michael...I'm sorry but the lyrics are just...who are you trying to go at here?
Classic album. Almost every song is good.
A reasonably enjoyable listen, but nothing overwhelmingly exciting.
Not too bad actually. The singles are iconic too.
He has a very different taste in music than I have. It's not really bad. I just don't like it. Favorite song: monkey
Some good, some boring. The hits are the highlight but the album falls off as it goes on. 5/10 (2.5/5)
A nine minute sex song is ridiculous. I’ve never lasted that long in bed, ever. There’s some really funky stuff on here, hard day was sweet. Kissing a fool is the best song by far. But honestly, I wish he used more of his vocal prowess. There was a lot to be desired on here
Not my style, but it was better as a whole than I expected.
you have to respect gay sex music
some good tracks on this, enjoyed it
Never been a huge George Michael fan but I did enjoy this album more than I thought it would. one question: did "I Want Your Sex" *need* to be nine and half minutes long?
Title song is super strong, but nothing else connects quite like that. I did notice the lyrics of "Hand to Mouth" as pretty good too, but as someone who is not interested in sex with George Michael, I am not the intended audience here.
11/09/2025 I feel like I expected more from this album.
No private session used for Spotify. Lot of heavy rotation MTV songs on this album, but it's cheesy fun, file it under guilty pleasures. Very synth heavy even on the drums, which is an 80's thing, but not my thing.
Faith is a classic but every song seems repetitive. It’s pop music, of course, so that can be expected.
Ok not bad or good
Orange Mocha Frappuccinos!
My metal heart wants to shit on this so bad but there are some bangers in here. The bass is killer.
Pop greatness. It seems oxymoronic, and it probably is music's great paradoxes. Critics praised this album on its release, but it seemed more like an apology because they thought George Michael was no better than Wham. He's slightly better, but that doesn't make this album great. it's just greater than anyone thought it would be.
Not bad, the single are the best though, album tracks a little weak
Ihan hyviä kasarisoundeja mut ei ihan lähde. 3/5

First listen, that was okay.
Shocking number of memories jogged by this album. First up: the numerous videos I've watched of Megan Thee Stallion dancing in slo-mo to "Father Figure" Second: I used to work at a small company where the CEO would invite all of us to holiday parties and also his birthday parties at his large house (weird in retrospect) and at least once or twice he hired this cover band to play. I can't remember how much of these events are merged together, but 1) he said he wanted them to do "I Want Your Sex" and I wound up relaying this to the band who 2) eventually got us a noise complaint and then 3) when I took a photo of the CEO and the band with said noise complaint and texted it out to whoever wanted it, the guitarist told me if I wanted to I could text him at that number "about whatever". He had played with Warrant and I was 22. So that was weird. Anyway. Really front-loaded album if you ask me. 2.5
Альбом как-то не услышался, споткнулся на третей, кажется вещи, где постоянно повторяется секс секс секс.
Lewd with a lot of edgy religious references. ‘I Want Your Sex’ is pretty dumb. There’s the title track, and then there are some other decent tracks towards the end. He’s a surprisingly talented musician.
Better than I expected it to be.
I love the 80s but I’m not the biggest fan of George Michael. I was going to give it a 2 but Father Figure and Kissing a Fool brought it up to a 3 for me. Otherwise it’s just a lot of cheesy 80s music with really cringey lyrics.
not bad
Love this album as a child, listening to it older doesn't resonate the same way
He's naughty!
Meh
I like the title track quite a bit. The rest didn't stand out to me as much
Its a good album
1st half is solid, 2nd half kinda faded into the background for me. Fairly fun overall.
I respect the voice and production
Decent album. A little weird, but maybe it's just the overt horniness. I had heard Faith and Father Figure before, but everything else was new to me. I liked Kissing a Fool the most, George Michael does have a very good voice. I think it's just the style of the music that I'm kinda just neutral on. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. I would rather hear his voice singing a different style of music, like if he had been born in a different era, he would have done Sinatra-style songs well. Solid 3.
# 528 : Faith "Faith" is a well-crafted album that earned its place as the Grammy Album of the Year in 1989 and is ranked 151 on Rolling Stones list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The front half is especially strong, packed with memorable songwriting and timeless tracks that still hold up today. My personal favorite is the title track Faith—catchy, confident, and iconic. The latter half doesn’t quite maintain the same momentum, feeling a bit uneven in comparison. Still, it’s a solid listen overall and a testament to George Michael’s artistry and versatility. Worth listening to: Faith Listened: 21/07/2025
This album's a real heavyweight. A bit pop for my taste but it's sure famous.
I get why this is included in the list. There's several tracks here that were monster hits, and yeah they're catchy. It's just not one that's really to my taste.
This will be my second, and naturally last George Michael album to review. I gave three stars to Listen Without Prejudice, but I know a few more songs on this album, and as an eighties fan, I'm expecting to enjoy Faith more than its follow-up effort. I know the first three songs on this album, and all three of them are great, but the rest of this album will be new to me. Here's hoping that I've been missing out on some great tunes on the rest of this album! Despite my relatively high hopes, Faith was only slightly better than Listen Without Prejudice. I still love the first three songs on this album quite a bit, but after that, I felt like this album was just a generic pop/R&B album, albeit with a great vocalist. George Michael was a great pop musician and pop culture icon, but I felt like this album lost a lot of momentum early on, and failed to gain it back. Despite my feelings about the album as a whole, it does have a few excellent songs. The album's title track is excellent as a lead-off song. The organ intro is fantastic, and the bass playing and multitrack vocals are outstanding. Everything about this song is incredibly fun, and it's an outstanding pop song. "Father Figure" is fantastic too. Yes, the lyrics feel a bit dirty, but it has an atmosphere that I absolutely love. Everything echoes in a way that makes it feel like this song was recorded in an empty church, which works so thematically as a second track after "Faith." The bass and vocals are once again fantastic, but I love when the piano kicks in. "Father Figure" builds and gets better as it goes along, like the musical version of edging. The horns should be cheesy, but to me, I think they sounded great. "I Want Your Sex" is where Faith starts to dip a little, but only because this song overstays its welcome a bit. I love the sex positive message, the backing vocals, and the percussion, but this song doesn't bring enough to the table to justify going on for nine minutes. It's still a good song, but it doesn't compete with the two songs before it. "One More Try" had some excellent vocals and organ playing, but other than that, it didn't garner much interest from me. The best song after the first three tracks was "Hand To Mouth. The keyboard and bass playing were excellent, and I loved the mood of the intro. Lyrically, "Hand To Mouth" was excellent, and I loved its critique of the crumbling of American standards of living. Even though this album had some high points, it falls pretty middle of the road for me. I think George Michael is an excellent vocalist and fantastic pop musician, but I'd rather stick to the hits when it comes to his catalog.
Fun album. Half really hit. Other half, not so much.
Obviously not my cup of tea but I do have respect for this album and its maker. Michael wrote all the music, plays a load of instruments en of course sings. He wasn't just a pretty boy, he was a genuine and talented artist and multi-talent. The success of this album is incredible. Six hitsingles out of nine songs. I had never heard the album but of course I had heard almost all the songs plenty of times. Hey, this is the time I grew up, minor gymnasium years. At the time I hated it, I a a lot more nuanced now. The two songs that stand out for me are 'One more try' and 'Kissing a fool' - both of them are characterised by Michael's singing, where in a lot of the other tracks he sometimes appears to rather whisper that sing. 'Kissing a fool' is a weird song on this album - it is a truly acoustic song where all other tracks are defined, and a bit destroyed, by very synthetic eighties-sounds. Not my favourite album of course, but no punishment to listen to.
Grew up on this album but it’s a bit funny to hear the lyrics now. All this singing about girls and knowing my man is just collecting a paycheck. First 3 songs are best: “faith”, “father figure” and “I want your sex”
J'ai aimé Monkey et Kissing a Fool Sinon c'est un peu le Michael Jackson des pauvres.
2.5
1/2
Father Figure is making a nice comeback right now on TikTok. A really strong album. Good hits! 7.9/10
i like the second one
Decent mix of styles here on Georges solo debut album, certainly trying to get rid of his "teenybopper" status by going way more overtly sexual. I think those more sexual / freaky songs are the best ones here with the more plain ballad types not really being to interesting. Father Figure is a real standout for me along with the title track of course. The direction George takes with this album can been seen as a blueprint of sorts for other "teenyboppers"/ Boy band members looking to go solo and appearing more mature. I'd say Timberlake certainly took cues from what George was doing on this.
it was ok. it was like budget Michael Jackson. the gospel influences weren’t hitting for me cuz I’d rather just listen to a gospel album. Feels of it’s time. which is cool in like a historical way. But I hate 80s production sm.
Inleder med starka poplåtar. I want your sex hade kunnat vara en Prince-låt. Andra halvan av skivan betydligt svagare. George Michael har en rätt anonym röst. Det saknas tryck som kommer fram främst när körer får utrymme.
Props to Michael for his pop songwriting ability but not my jam. Catchy hooks and understandably a big mainstream success, but I won't go out of my way to listen to it.
80s isn't really my thing, but this record and artist is a bit of an exception. Something about the synths on this one paired with George's voice works for me. This transports me back to my childhood and hearing these tracks in some of my favorite movies. "Faith" is still one of my favorite pop songs of all time. Really fun record. Happy Pride Month!
The title track is great, the other hits are great as well, though following Faith with Father Figure is just terrible sequencing, that’s a track 3 or 4 song. Overall, the whole was less than the sum, but when it worked it really worked for me. 3 stars but really a hair’s breadth from 4
This has got a couple great songs on it. Faith. Father Figure. The rest is pretty good, but not my jam and very 80s.
I love George Michael as a person, and some of his songs. This album? Um. Not so much.
Great campy fun, doesn't draw me back to listen on the regular though.
Decent 80s music but man does that dude need to get laid
Sexy! The singles are amazing. And as always, what a voice!
Niet helemaal mijn jammm
Pretty decent, reminds me of Michael Jackson or Prince. Most songs feel very similar and lacking of meaning besides sex. Faith was great and so was father figure
Fritidsklubb på Sørumsand og ikke minst 80-tallsfest på Fjellfoten! En soleklar treer
I liked the first couple a decent bit. I thought it was enjoyable overall but just not really my thing. Still need to go through Wham's stuff as well Rating: 3.3
Michael Jackson esq. Cheesy at times (I want your Sex). But not bad.
3.6 good effort for debit album
I liked a lot of it :) but it's very inconsistent
• 3/5 • impressive solo breakout album shifting from teen pop to more of a blue eyed soul sound • outside of Faith and maybe Father Figure, I don’t think it’s aged especially well • synths on some of the songs make the production sound tinny
Couple good songs, but a lot of it is just cliche 80s pop
for some reason spotify decided to have shuffle on for this album and i didn’t realize it until the last song. but the fact that i didn’t notice means that it probably doesn’t matter that much so im not gonna relisten. it’s a solid pop album but nothing incredibly special. and it’s a little on the long side which locks us into a pretty solid high 3
getting this when its still IDAHOBIT in the west coast (although its already 5/18 in asia, where i live) is the weirdest thing that could ever happen.
Great voice. Some songs are bangers, and overall, the album is listenable. Just ok, though.
George Michael successfully stepping out as a solo artist. If you have to listen to something from the 80's I guess this would be somewhere in the top half of the list. It was OK.
something I probably won't listen to again, vocals are good, some great pop tracks and some that didn't grab me
I thought the production was good, and I liked the title track. Aside from that, not much really got me. I wasn’t a huge fan of the songs themselves though I feel like for a lot of them, if I give them a listen a couple more times, I could really grow to like them. Otherwise, this album on first listen was just okay for me.
Kinda cheesy and very sex obsessed, but still had some catchy songs
Every 80s trope you could imagine is featured in this album. But, hell, it’s tough to say it isn’t fun.
One has to wonder how an album like this would play today. Michael’s allusions to fathers, teachers, and preachers as stand ins for sexual partners are clearly intentional, which makes the whole affair a bit ‘iffy’. The production has held up nicely, and there’s clearly a bit of fun to be had here and there; however, the whole thing starts to get a bit weary by the time Michael’s simulated sex sounds arrive in the overlong I Want Your Sex. Michael clearly did a good job here at relating his own personal coming of age struggles with sexuality and God, and for his effectiveness in an often shallow genre I give Faith a soft 3 ✨
1st half: banger city. 2nd half doesn't live up to it.
Enjoyed the slower tracks much more than the high tempo ones with piercing vocals and synths. George has a smooth voice that fits more naturally in the lower register. Found the production a bit samey but solid for the era. Listened to: walking the high line. Favorite tracks: Faith, One More Try
I enjoyed this listen! The album started off strong with ‘Faith’ and ‘Father Figure’ but then fell off a little for me until the last couple of songs. Overall, I thought this was a solid album and I would recommend it to others!
so the lyrics to the tiktok song are not "I will be your bottom feeder" as it turns out
Vibes, but lyrics kinda strange at some places😂
Gibt Besseres aber Georgi schon toll 🫶🏼
not as gay as i hoped itd be but gay enough for me to enjoy 🙂↕️
Very 80s production. Some cool tunes here, but a bit tired of the title track these days, as played it in a covers band for years. Favourite tracks: Father Figure, One More Try, Hand to Mouth.
6/10
Pretty good, good 80s bangers
some good tracks for sure but overall a bit mich maybe
This is not really my thing. I love some 80s music, but the pop soul 80s is not really my thing. To me this sounded ok but I think Michael Jackson did it better. A decent listen and "Faith" is a really groovy track. The rest is just a bit to meandering and it doesn't really grab me. Not sure what it is, this style just doesn't make my head bop.
🎧Totally 80s. Favorite track: Faith
It’s good, of it’s time a bit but still solid and there’s no denying he’s a great singer.
I knew George Michael thanks to that incredibly boring song called Careless Whisper, which is present in every playlist of bad-fuck songs out there and tik-tok videos with someone doing a car drift in high speed. I was expecting some romantic and cheesy ballads in advance. Right away, I was surprised by a great song that gives the album its title, "Faith". But the rest is exactly what I expected. His voice is cool and striking, and it fits this type of music. The album loses a lot of points due to lack of creativity. Most of the songs make me believe that I've already heard them in the voices of other artists from the same era. Anyway, I think 3 stars is a fair rating.
Ganz chillig. 3.5
80’s classic
always fun. i had forgotten how many hits were on this.
Not my favorite but it's alright
George has incredible pure vocals which are present but, his final form isn’t demonstrated in this album. 6/10, good album not his best work.
Varied but at times very 80's. A number of strong tracks elevates it to a 3
1. "Faith" 3,7 2. "Father Figure" 3,1 3. "I Want Your Sex" (Parts 1 & 2) 3,1 4. "One More Try" 2 5. "Hard Day" 2,9 6. "Hand to Mouth" 2,5 7. "Look at Your Hands" 2,6 8. "Monkey" 2,7 9. "Kissing a Fool" 1,4 10. "Hard Day" (Shep Pettibone remix) 1,2 Average 2,52
Great voice. Love Father Figure.
3.25 Enjoyable pop music
This is so 80s but not quite in a cool, Michael Jackson way. The first couple of songs are quite good but "I Want Your Sex" is very cringy for lack of a better word and, honestly, seems like a song that an awkward pre-teen would make to be funny. Michael Jackson's "I Want to Rock with You" says basically the same thing in a much more mature (and better) way and is all around a better song/groove, as well. Some of the other songs have a decent grooves. It's not the worst album in this list but it's also not the best.
This is a great album — sounds better in headphones than i imagined it would. Good studio artistry happening here. Not really my style of music — over-earnest, overproduced, too poppy. It’s a 3.
The title track was good, but nothing else comes close to being as good or as memorable
Faith is a good tune. The rest of the album is fine, not really my thing.
Starts at the top of the mountain but it drops off and all the way into the sea after father figure.
guess you could say I had faith in this album
I love this one. You got to have faith. Favorite tracks: Love's in Need of Love Today Faith
I thought I looked this album more than 3 stars but a proper listen to it was sadly a bit disappointing
Was fine. First track mostly.
I can appreciate why this is interesting but not my thing
Decent 80s pop record
I'm old enough to remember how this album dominated the airways back in the mid-80s, so I can't say it doesn't belong on this list. The production is pretty solid but I don't think he's doing anything here that Prince wasn't doing better.
this was decent but nothing super amazing, very poppy and fun.
There must have been so many people out there trying to be George Michael
The production was really good, but it was not really my thing. Prince did it much better and this is a little too close to the 90s pop for my taste
good
Oof. A couple of highlights, a couple of tracks that were just plain uncomfortable to listen to, and the rest of it just seemed to highlight how huge an ego George had at the time. I know it's highly regarded, so I tried to like it, but... I'm too conflicted.
I didn’t much like this when it came out. Some of the songs have improved with age or nostalgia, but not others. In particular the song where he says ‘sex’ a lot while someone in background appears to fake-vomit…
This man has a good singing voice but the lyrics are mostly sleazy and the sound peak 80's bubblegum pop. Both of those two latter things don't do it for me.
Ok cheesy pop album, better than expected. Bass went crazy in some tracks. 2.5 rounded up
As much as I don’t want to admit it, I actually enjoyed this album. That doesn’t mean I loved it, but I appreciated it for what it is. It’s definitely a product of its time, but I can see why it had so much hype back in the ’80s. The music was clearly forward-thinking for its era. I don’t think I’ll be rushing back to it anytime soon, but I wouldn’t completely take it off the table either.
This very much reminded me of prince/michael jackson and i am a fan kissing the fool is very cool for being so jazzy
Some crackers, some dirge. The sex song is the highlight
3.5
Вроде легенда, вроде интересные песни есть (faith, hand to mouth, I want your sex), но мне чет не зашло.
My expectation from this albums ever since I saw the cover was basically George moving away from the Wham sound into something more sultry and serious (a more serious Careless Whisperer if you will). Instead it's more like a continuation of Wham's sound but from the R&B side of things rather than the dance pop they helped popularize. It's kinda jarring to expect something darker and sexier and getting hit with the same kinda bright, bubbly energy George had in the Wham era but now he talks about wanting sex and all those sorts of things. It might sound like an awkward record (and it can be, Monkey is not a good song really and I Want Your Sex can be hit or miss depending on your mood) but instead it manages to be a fun time if I'm frank, it's the kind of 80s pop that is so big that it simply wraps around to be enjoyable and I can't help but just be mostly all in for the ride. Especially from the three track run of Hard Day, Hand to Mouth and Look at Your Hands where I feel like the idea of this album really comes together, pop like his old stuff but looking forward to new sounds. I'm kinda glad my boyfriend has it on record because I'd gladly play it again
Some iconic songs, the rest are dreck.
Great voice, but didn’t click with me beyond being a pleasant listen.
George Michael paints himself as a distinct persona but several of the tracks don’t contribute to the overall experience as much as the best ones do
George Michael gets a whiff of his armpits... and they STINK Jk, this album was fine.
Favorite Track: Faith
That guitar on Faith is surprisingly country. Gets a little same-y, but hits are hits
Sex is best when it’s one on one
This album sent me on a rollercoaster. First off I’ve always enjoyed the song “Faith”, however the rest of the record is not like this at all. This song is almost a bonus before the real record begins First few tracks “Father Figure” & “I Want Your Sex parts 1 and 2” have a strong Prince vibe. This wasn’t really agreeing with me and this record seemed like a poor man’s Prince and Michael Jackson “One More Try” was a better ballad and showcased George Michael’s great vocals. When he is not doing 80’s pop funk he sounds a lot better. Nothing great but listenable “Hand to Mouth” was another track I tolerated but I was still feeling a light 3 to a 2.5 on this album so far Then Once we get to the track “Look at Your Hands” I believe this song along saved this record for me with its upbeat sound and funky rock rhythm (not the same as the previous tracks) The track “Monkey” just sounds exactly like that hit song that goes “Relax don’t do it” , it’s another miss but not as bad as the previous misses “Kissing a Fool” is another track where Michael’s vocals gets to shine and is the kinda music that suites him way more than then straight pop Even the last track “A Last Request” which is part of the “I want your sex” trilogy but here is more mellow and closes the album nice . This album has my conflicted ,cause on one end I hate the dated sound of some of songs and it’s white Boy Prince and Michael Jackson feel. There where points where it seemed His whisper voice and sensual sound was molesting my ears. Then there were other moments that seemed genius and great instrumentation. This album seems like it thinks it’s smarter than it is but through all its Pretentiousness there is actually something here 3.5/5 I think with future listens this album may go up too a 4 or maybe I’ll drop it Though I can’t deny I was tapping my foot and getting into it at some points.
All quality songs, better than his Wham! days.
Meh. He was a fantastic vocalist. Just don't really care for the music.
What a talent. Great album.
Why are all the songs 5 minutes
Liked it more than the album with freedom on it
Would have been a four if this had Careless Whisper on it
Enjoyable example of the 80s but like the Janet album and Hair Metal, it's not timeless. I don't find myself seeking out this outside of a novelty. But if you are looking on throwing on some 80s music it's a great album.
Hard to take this seriously but it's probably well written music .. right? I just find it funny And OTT and camp. All good qualities! It's not my thing though and I won't listen again. But a good lafffff
Hmmm, well Faith is an absolute banger, love that song. But the rest was all a bit boring for me, can't say I massively enjoyed it but there were good bits.
Mostly sensual feeling pop, with some more uptempo dancey songs
The front half of this one is great. I remember when the single for Faith was released and it was a massive hit. You can hear the strong Prince influence on the front half, which is probably why I like it. Then, the back half hits. Seems like they lost steam and ideas. Also, essentially 14 minutes of this thing is devoted to "I Want Your Sex." Catchy tune, but c'mon. 3⭐️
I"ve heard the album before. Chock full of hits, this is a pretty good pop record with nice production throughout. Definitely an album of the 80s, and one of the definitive albums of the 80s. The title song still sounds good, although it really sounds like Footloose by the way of Freddy Mercury. But all-in-all this album doesn't really age that well and leans more toward cringe. Which is unfortunate, because there are signs that Michael can really belt out some vocals. But the songwriting just doesn't hold up. Why can't you set your monkey free?
Solid pop album.
I acknowledge his talents but his music was never my thing. Despite the “greatness” of this album I didn’t thing much of this music at the time and I do find it has aged particularly well. Meh.
3.5
даже на лучших и тех, на кого возлагались надежды, увлекают только знакомые песни (одна). возможно слишком синтезаторные восьмидесятые чтобы полноценно воспринимать, надеюсь встретить будущие альбомы тоже)
Why is he sniffing his armpit on the cover though? Anyway. Some pop all time bangers up front, after which I got progressively more bored.
A really strange album. On one hand, all the biggest songs are so corny and artificial that I barely got through listening to them. But some the B side has some actually excellent songs that are interesting and not just hammed-up over-the-top relationship songs. Definitely some hidden gems, if you can stomach the very plastic "hits". Top tracks: Hard Day, Hand to Mouth, Kissing a Fool
A handful of jams with some that perhaps haven't aged great. Definitely will be listening to it again at some point though. 6/10
Despite my fellow Projecteer championing this as a 5.0 album, this was about as MOR of a three star album as you can get. It's all a bit seedy in parts as well, which is a bit off putting. Still, my namesake sings good.
Great pop album. Just seemed a little long for me
His outing was a shock for his female friends. He is part of the 80-s and 90-s pop History.
A very 80s sounding album, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as long it it is creative. I'd argue that a lot of the songs are interesting and aren't just your typical 80s synth fest. There are some funky moments, and even swing elements? It isn't a bad album, and the eponymous track Faith is a hit. Father Figure was probably the second best sounding song. However, I wasn't a fan of some of the middle of the album. It got a bit boring.
Best Song: Faith. Apart from the entirely unnecessary church organ intro just a catchy as hell song with an infectious rhythm. Worst Song: I Want Your Sex. It turns out that repeating the words "sex" and "sexy" does not a sexy song make. Who could have guessed. Overall: Like a lot of pop albums from this era, this one feels annoyingly prone to alternating between goofy pop and saccharine, cheese-ball ballads. I don't get it. Why were they always afraid to have unabashed fun? Or at least segregate the different styles to their own albums to prevent the tonal whiplash you get listening to the album straight through.
Good
Surprised that I enjoyed this as much as I did - excellent singing and great production for the timeframe. A strong 3 for me...
Starts off impossibly strong, but weak second half
Boring a bit
Well I'd write your heart a letter But I think you know me better If I keep on asking baby maybe I'll get what I'm asking for Why can't you do it? Why can't you set your monkey free? I think this album cover looks like he's sniffing his own armpit. Decent album though. 3/5
"Look at my butt. It's a perfect circle. Scientists use my butt to calibrate their instruments!"
The straightest album ever
Faith is a classic song There’s a sprinkling of decent pop tunes across the rest of the album, along with some frankly forgettable ones But what a set of pipes George had
Good
Very iconic if you were around in the 80s, he’s got talent, but the album is meh
I liked this more than I thought I would
I didn't expect to not like this as much as since George Michael is usually loaded with bangers but man. This was a tad disappointing the production is outdated and at times quite corny. The entire album is corny as a matter of fact but I'm gonna give it a slight pass solely based on the vocals and George's aura. Best - Father Figure and One More Try Worst - I Want Your Sex Pts 1, 2 and 3 and Faith 2.75/5
First listen Saved 5/10 Top track: Faith
- ok, so come on, why? Not my thing, crazy polished production .... 2.5 because I'm not into it but I guess a 3 because of the craft ....? -
Just a fun 80's pop album.
Faith and Father Figure are both huge and an incredible way to kick off the album, but it’s a bit middling as it progresses. There is some really bad production in places, most notably on Hard Day, and I Want Your Sex is just very cringe, not at all sexy, and far too long at 9 egregious minutes. It gets better towards the end though, with the very silly but very fun Monkey and then the genuinely beautiful Kissing a Fool. Overall a very mixed bag, and not as impactful as Listen Without Prejudice, but still with some mega highlights
A bit same-same after a few tracks. But I’ll have faith stuck in my head for a good week. thanks.
His hits were good. The others were ok.
Ja klassiker.
Another okay album by George Michael. Don’t really vibe with it. I Want Your Sex part one brings down part two, which is better. Don’t really care for the Garage Band kind of sounds used throughout the album. His singing isn’t as good as in Listen Without Prejudice, but the songs are a bit better. Standouts: One More Try, Kissing a Fool, A Last Request (I Want Your Sex).
Wow, I didn't realize how many well-known songs came from this album.
Some fun tracks on here, including some that I like a bit more than I did when this first came out. I'm less keen on the ballads, on the whole. Also, is he sniffing his oxter on the album cover?
Typisches George Michael Album mit den Klassikern „Faith“, „Father Figure“ & „I want your Sex“. Insgesamt ist mir das Album zu stark R&B gefärbt und irgendwie assoziiert mich die Lead Stimme an den ewigen Weihnachts-Repeater. Ganz gut gefällt die Ballade „One More Try“. andere Titel sind einfach schwach als wären sie mit der C64 Drum-Mashine gemacht (z.B. „Hand To Mouth“ oder „Monkey“).

Starts off with three back to back great and varied songs. Then the rest is fine. Those three songs do a lot of the heavy lifting though.
A NOTE ON “FAITH”’S ASPIRATIONS TO BE “BLACK POP”: If you think George Michael was too white to write and record a song like “Faith”, just wait until you hear Louis Theroux’s attempt to cover it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LhvHJD6ZOsg Fresh out the Wham!-mer in ‘87, George Michael took the leap and flexed his solo artist muscles with “Faith”. Plenty of people sat up and took notice (including my mother, who was obsessed with the man for many years) while plenty others continued to dismiss him as trivial, meaningless pop. But thirty-seven years on, there’s no denying that “Faith” cemented Michael’s artistry, integrity and especially libido as powerful forces in pop. The opening salvo of the record shimmers and sweats with confidence and excitement. The title track belongs on a list of iconic singles which began as a daft, throwaway exercise before the producers insisted it be fleshed out into a hit: it still works. “Father Figure” is more measured and introspective, but the wailing chorus (mixing holy and sexual imagery) is where the Prince comparisons start to lock themselves in. And then, I’d never realised what an absolute jam “I Want Your Sex” is: the first part is groovy enough on its own, but then the second part takes it to another level. Rollicking horns, gnarly funk guitar, softer vocal passages… it’s a real “switching into technicolor” moment, an inspired segue and the highlight of “Faith”. Throughout the rest of the record, there are some spotty moments which don’t quite land for me: it feels like Michael could have committed more to being wild and unburdened, covering as much ground as he could as a solo artist. Instead, “Hard Day” feels like an empty demo track and “Hand to Mouth” offers some toothless social commentary. Neither of them quite take off, staying safely in the lane of adult contemporary. And while Michael’s soaring vocal really elevates “One More Try”, at heart it's still a fairly bare-bones soul/gospel track. We pick up at the end, though, as “Look At Your Hands” and “Monkey” bring us back in the room with some much-needed energy (the former like a Rolling Stones “Some Girls” track, the latter hard-edged funk which became “Faith”’s fourth hit. “Kissing A Fool” is a refreshingly surprising note to end on: a swing into smooth, soulful jazz with honeyed vocals to close. Altogether, for me it’s not quite great but it is perfectly good. If my mum comes asking, tell her I gave it five stars.
There are some real classic hits on here - but it’s front loaded, and I get a little bored towards the end of the album
Some of these are pretty good but most are just not my style.
1988 - Philadelphia, PA - Listening to this in my Aunt's living room
3+ Stars (9/15)
It's not really my thing, but I can appreciate it well enough. The content and lyrics are pretty weird, and it does sound quite 80's, but he's got a great voice and it's produced and put together well enough. I like 'Kissing a Fool' the most as it was nice and chilled.
It's good. I've heard a lot of it before, but was cool to hear all the songs. But not something I am dying to listen to on repeat.
Meh
In the last years of his life George Michael had become a bit of a punchline - being found passed-out in his car several times, crashing into a Snappy Snaps etc ... and then after his death stories started ro come out showing how he may have been one of the few truly good people in the music industry. I had never paid any attention really to his music, it wasn't my bag, but finding out what a kind, generous and humble man he actually was made me sad I never knew this when he was alive. The album is very mid, however, and there's a lot of filler.
Quality but not my thing.
First two tracks are undeniably catchy. I had to dig a bit to remember why I know Father Figure so well; it's on the excellent soundtrack for Atomic Blonde.
This was catchy! I realized that I knew more than a couple of songs from this album purely from exposure to pop culture.
Not bad, George. Favourite track: Kissing a Fool.
Flamboyant. Faith is solid. Super sexual. Doesn’t deserve to be on this list.
My exposure to pop in the late 80’s was limited to MTV, And George Michael (and this album) was certainly a fixture there. But familiarity does not equal fandom. My impression at the time was that he was following in the Madonna mode, pushing the envelope on overt sexuality, being “edgy”. But not straying from a very safe musical style / production. Very polished, but probably spent more time on the videos than the music. So, on to the listen: this is certainly well put together, very hook-y, well produced and performed. I can understand why it was popular. That said, it’s not really my “thing”, late 80’s pop. I don’t own (nor want) anything from this album. In 1987, I was listening to Roseanne Cash, The Desert Rose Band, Linda Ronstadt/Dolly Parton / Emmylou Harris’s Trio, Nanci Griffith, Kathy Mattea, New Grass Revival, Dwight Yoakam. Pop simply wasn’t holding my attention at the time. Not exclusively. I was also listening to REM, The dB’s, Def Leppard. A little Bon Jovi, Bruce Hornsby. Point is, my interests were elsewhere. I certainly heard this (George Michael) music…. It just didn’t appeal to me. It’s still a 3/5 for me. Well done, effective at what it is.
6.5/10 despite being a UK born citizen, i know nothing about england's music scene outside the super mainstream stuff. so george michael was a new name to me. turns out he was the lead singer of WHAM! and was also the biggest UK popstar during the 80s. but ngl, im kinda struggling to believe if that's even true the first half of this album suffers in being in this pop r&b limbo, where everything sounds hollow and almost soulless. the opening track faith has over 300 million streams on spotify and my main question is why? this song feels so boring and weak, the instrumental could've used a lot more. im not asking for grandiose types of production but the guitar just by itself is very lacklustre - could've used some help. this problem carries on for the next two tracks; father figure had me feeling like i was being edged in the worst way possible. the hook was really catchy and i though michael would build off on top of that but apparently not. i want your sex is probably my most hated song on here. i do not think this track needed two parts whatsoever, the point was already made very clear after the second chorus. after that it was just massively overstaying its welcome. these three tracks also suffer from some questionable lyricism. it goes from average pop lyrics that will get you by to classic 80s misogyny which yeah ok it's a product of its time but it's still weird. after that snoozefest however, i do think the album grows in quality. hard day was a decent enough song, it was definitely more attention grabbing with the electronic groove elements scattered here and there. hand to mouth was a fantastically written song, the introspective lyrics were so refreshing to see after a leg of mundane-ity on the previous songs. the same lyrical quality is kept up on look at your hands and monkey. both of the tracks also hold my fave production pieces. it was very upbeat and lively, something i was craving since the opening track. kissing a fool was a typical pop ballad, but i have no complaints really. and tbh i dont even want to acknowledge the closing track, i didn't need a part three thank you very much. i think this album is very much a mixed bag with some nice lyrics and fun sounds and then the most sleep inducing tracks known to humankind. i don't really see myself revisiting most songs which honestly is fine by me!
There is no subtly on this album, you know what he is singing about along with some bopping melodies. Really loved dancing around to music my sister and fam introduced me to long ago.
Questo album gronda anni Ottanta da tutti i pori.
Woooo boy… George was all in his feelings for this album. I understand why it was a hit even if I felt like done if the tracks were too long.
I have faith, sometimes
Very 80s. Not bad but not my taste. Stand-out: Faith
Oof. This is peak 80s and not in a good way.
I never liked Wham!, and I never really listened to George Michael's solo work, other than the inescapable singles. On playing this album, I found it an excellently produced record - very slick soul-influenced pop music, but it really failed to grab my attention. I couldn't really see why it makes it into this list of albums that must be heard. So I get that it was popular and why it was popular, but it left me a bit disinterested.
Great debut from George, not his strongest record but still a killer entrance into his solo career
Never noticed the symbols at the bottom before. The cross, a bass clef, British Pounds, star of David, and a heart with an arrow through it. I guess these are the things George has faith in? I ended up listening to this on headphones and it sounded great. Somehow avoided the horrible production style of the 80s. Was seriously impressed to learn George produced this himself. Super talented musician. The title track gives The Cure's "Close To You" a serious run for the money in the Best Bo Diddley Beat of the 80s category. He's a great singer but most of the rest of the songs are not very interesting to me. Some make me cringe a little. I picked up my Mom in my car with this playing and I felt compelled to turn down "I Want Your Sex." In all fairness, there is a jazz ballad at the end that floored me.
the music shines, crackles, pops and Michael's voice is fab if only if only if only the lyrics were stronger. A George Michael / Robyn collab would've been amazing. And is Robyn on this list? WTF?
For some reason, I get the feeling that I don’t believe him when listening. He’s a good singer and there are good beats, but emotion is lacking for most of these tracks. There exceptions, “One More Try”, for example feels like it has true passion to it and “Kissing A Fool” is a lovely slower song. For the most part, though, I doubt I’ll find myself to listening to most of this again. 3/5
Better than I had remember it to be. Was never a fan of GM or wham but there are tracks on here that still sound quite fresh today
I always thought this album was alright. Not a favorite but definitely notable and worthy of being in this list.
I can respect that this is a good album. It's catchy and well-produced. But it is not really my cup of tea. Some songs, namely I Want Your Sex, are a little too over the top for me. I don't see coming back to this one.
Incredibly polished sound, a handful of great singles and, in retrospect, insightful into his personal life. Songs like ‘Hand to Mouth’ also hint at a recognition of the inequalities experienced at the end of the ‘greed is good’ decade. Stands up well and resonates today 35 years on.
Nice 80s pop with some variety throughout. Faith is a banger but overall the genre is not my favorite. But I appreciate it. Very strong 3 but not quite a 4.
Faith alone ensures that this will never be less than 3 stars. Jackson and Prince most likely did music better. Morrissey most likely did gay better. But there's still Faith.
For a record from a massive pop artist at the time, the album is remarkably stripped down and simple. Each song is really only a few tracks put together, which shows you that it doesn't take a billion dollars and all the musicians money can buy to make a great record.
I can’t listen to George without thinking about that sketch in Dead Ringers or Star Stories or whatever it was without remembering that scene where Boy George goes up to George Michael and says, “I put it to you, George Michael that you are a gay” and George is all like “nuh uh, no way, I like girls and everything”. And then my mind wanders to the sketch from the same show about Catherine Zeta Jones and when she met Mick Hucknal who is portrayed as this scary goblin like creature, “I’m Mick Huckkkk-naaaaal”
My first thought was, “Cool. I’ve never listened to a whole George Michael album.” My second thought was, “I know most of these songs.” So I guess a good exercise in understanding that certain pop idols are famous for a reason. Still, though many of these songs were nostalgic and enjoyable for me, I don’t think that George Michael is necessarily somebody that I’m going out of my way to listen to. I think I might equate him to Harry Styles as a contemporary analog. Musically competent, important for pop cultural reasons, but not necessarily somebody that I am looking to have more of in my canon.
This feels very horny. The backing tracks is very 90s, I feel like I'm in an aquarium. The backing track for "hard day" feels like a SNES video game and I am vibing. The mix of sex lyrics and nostalgia music is making me slightly uncomfortable. The lyrics for "I want your sex" are hilarious, I feel like I'm having a fever dream what is happening. The Micheal Jackson style "Ow!" is really something. I can't tell if I love or hate this. "Sex is natural, sex is good, not everybody does it, but everybody should". Like go off king. Definitely made me smile so that's a plus. His voice is impressive, but I don't love the boyish Micheal Jackson tone he sinks into sometimes. The lyrics are often the worst part, but there is a weird campy charm to them. I've learned he is gay which is iconic I fear. Top songs: Faith I want your sex (Ironically?? Unsure) Hard day Kissing a fool
George Michael has a powerful voice that can definitely carry a song. And the production was good even if that distinct 80s sound makes it feel a bit dated. But it was a little too horny for my Christian sensibilities. 3 Fav Songs: Faith Father Figure Hard Day
Decent, pretty typical 80s pop songs but pretty sexual. Didn’t really hold my attention too well, right down the middle 3/5
💖 father figure 🗣️ 6️⃣
ágæt lög inn á milli. nokkuð óvænt. 3,5
I want your sex is very cringe. If not by it i would give it a 4
Clean 80s pop production to let George Michael’s soulful voice soar. But second half seems to drag for me Highlights are Faith and One More Try
La canción del single, bien. El resto del disco, intranscendente.
First time listening to these songs as an album. Smooth transitions 7/10
Holy shit. How did this album get created? Did George Michael really have THAT much game? I can't tell if this album is bold, arrogant or the confessions of a sexual predator. Really not sure, but damn. He made an 9 MINUTE SONG ABOUT SEX. 9 MINUTES!?!?! PART 1 & 2??!? Admittedly, George Michael has not been in my repertoire of music. But damn, I gotta respect a 9 minute boner ballad. Also, lets not ignore 'Faith', which yes, overtly sexual, but still really really good. That song is fantastic. It's fun, its creative, its vibey. It riffs that old Bo Didley tune. Just great. But then its followed up with 'Father Figure'?!? WTF is this song? I don't wanna yuck on someones yum, but personally I don't don't want daddy role play as the second song on a sex album. Wow. Did not need that one. However, as soon as you stop feeling weird about Father Figure, ol George drops a 9 minute sex song. How many people on earth have boned through the entire duration of this song? Foreplay to completion with George in the bedroom. What a guy. This song is a gift. After sex, George has to let us know that he's deep, mysterious and actually a bonafide sad boy. So as soon as he's done boning our brains out, he cranks out 'One More Try'. Which is a ballad for the saddest boy ever, but he really wants us to know he's more than just a simple fuck boy. 🥹 However, as to be expected. He bones, lamments, smokes a cigarette and then spends the next 45 minutes playing absolute garbage. Meaningless, pointless, music. How can such a passionate lover be so empty??? The next 5 songs are skippable and forgettable. Did you even spend the night with George Michael? I can't decide if this record is a masterpiece or a complete dumpster fire. I can say that this would fit perfectly as the background music for the Snake Hole Lounge in Parks and Rec.
First handful of songs are the popular ones for good reason. Too many love songs on the "B" side of the album. I don't understand why this would be on there.
While "Faith" is widely regarded as one of George Michael's best singles, the rest of this album is fairly unbeknown. This album oozes swagger and sexuality.
I am a little disappointed with the album. Faith is a great song, but everything else just feels like a low tier Prince song. Nothing bad, but I expected more.
An uneven album. Faith, Father Figure and Hard Days are all great but Monkey and I Want Your Sex (part 2) really drag things down. I did love how playful Michael is throughout but I don't think I'll listen to anything but the first two tracks again.
ООооо, жорж майкл корж вернулся! Я готов слушать jazz for your soul. Хм. Отрастил голову, голос стал более "лёгким" и сладким, хотя, казалось, куда. Но раньше был мощнее. Но в целом мне норм, мне нравится. Хоть и саксофон сочный потерялся где-то по дороге. Три звезды
Great solo album after Wham. "Faith" is a classic song, that continues to be played. The rest is definitely 80s pop music. But an excellent example of the time.
I forgot how nice Kissing A Fool is. I'm not a fan of the lyrics of Father Figure and I Want Your Sex. Especially the latter could have been more subtle. But other than that they don't sound bad at all. Good vocal dynamics to fit the songs. I especially like the airy vocals. Some songs are kinda silly sounding.
I've heard of this musician before, and I have heard parts of some songs from this album, but I never knew the two were associated—I say this only to illustrate that I came into this with zero expectations. Now that the stage is set, I can say that this starts as a pretty good pop album and kind of transforms to become also decent modern-jazzish album. What struck me in the first, poppy-half was how incredibly well produced it is. Everything is crisp and clear, there's no stage noise or ambient hiss in “sight,” and the instruments, vocals, and synth all pair together in perfect balance. The mix is tight, with an almost mechanical precision, but not inhuman—just superbly done! I know many people might call this over-produced, but I think there can be a fine line between the two sides, and I think for this type of album it works really well in complimenting the artists without trying to cover flaws or lack of skill or anything. This quality, tied with the frequent “signing into the bottom of a steel drum” reverb added to the vocals made me think immediately of some Michael Jackson albums. I wonder if there are some common technicians between the two... The jazzy second half is just as fine, and a little more akin to my tastes than the first. This would be a 4 or 5 on the mastering alone, but combined with the music I think it's a high three—its just not the type of thing I would put on frequently to enjoy, despite its quality. The track 'Hard Day' is freaking incredible! That bass bit is... Oooo, yeah. 'A Last Request...' is also a nice piece, reiterating selections of 'I Want Your Sex' that I do like musically, unlike that other 9min piece I spent just waiting for it to end. Insert desired innuendo here.
I get it why this album was Album of the Year, it sounded so good for 80s, don't give me wrong, it sounded so easy to listen, but i wouldn't give this album 5/5, i'm just gonna give it 3/5, somewhere in the middle. Whole album was one good experience, where guy really want to have sex with me.
So the first two songs are really good, obviously. and then there’s 1 other song i really like, but the rest was just meh for me ngl, but my scoring system has been kinda all over the place, i’ll say this has two iconic songs and then some other boring things but maybe innovative for the time… so let’s go with a 3.
Another album that I had low expectations but found myself really enjoying. I forgot how good a song 'Faith' is, and the album keeps going from there. Lots of songs I recognized from the radio at the time this came out. I'm not rushing out to buy this, but I wouldn't complain if someone put it on.
I liked this more than I thought I would
I'd give this album a 3.5 if I could. While it does sound a bit dated by today's standard, "Faith" and "I Want Your Sex" are fantastic songs.
This one exceeded my expectations. The other George Michael album on this list (Freedom) sucked and Wham! sure did suck but this had a couple decent songs. I'd give it a 2.5 but it gets a 3 for being better than expected
At its best, this album reflects Prince, which I’m not complaining about. At its worst, songs drag on just a bit too long, like I Want Your Sex. Yeah, it’s a two parter, but the last half of the track just meanders on without much consideration or direction. Michael’s lyrics even get about as blunt as they can with “have sex with me.” But I did like this more than the previous Michael record, which would come out a few years after this.
Faith shows Michael's willingness to evolve past his Wham! days and explore more sophisticated terrain in a solo debut rife with hits for both the streets and the sheets.
Faith the track is a 4, but it’s only a few minutes of nearly an hour. I had never listened to the rest so I had high hopes but I wasn’t as impressed.
1. faith - 1.5 2. father figure - 1 3. i uuant your zez - 0 4. one more try - 1.5 5. hard day - 0 6. hand to mouth - 1 7. look at your handz - 0 8. monkey - 0 9. kizzing a fool - 1.5 10. a lazt requezt - 1
I want sex - The musical
Was looking forward to this album based on what I know about George Michael. The first few songs rip as expected, but man this album gets down in the dumps. The crazy song about how good and natural sex is, just reminds me of some foreign creepy guy trying to convince me to have sex with him because "animals do it". Anyway, I can forgive weirdo tracks like that on a good album, sometimes they even enhance my enjoyment, but it just gets bland after a little while. Fine album.
Pretty cool guy. First half of album is nice to dance to. Thanks George! 3.8
Faith is brilliant as a single, but I preferred Listen Without Prejudice v1 when we had it a while ago, think that did his voice more justice and was a more refined than this 80s-heavy sound. A proper legend though.
This is quite full on... astonishing that he didn't have to come out until ten years after this was released really. His voice is incredible, the songs are a bit too 80s in style for me really, but the voice makes it more than tolerable. Faith is pretty much the perfect 80s pop song, but everything else on the album drags a bit (Faith is the only track under 3 and half minutes, and most of them are pushing 5). Father Figure is the only one that really justifies being a bit longer. Hope we get some of his later stuff, think that's a bit less kitsch than this. 3/5.
Musically is what I like about it, and the guy sure can sing. But some of the themes and lyrical directions were a bit cringe for me. Still, one of the great pop icons and for sure an album I would never put on if it wasn’t for this project! 7 out of 10
It's a real downhill after the title track. Fine voice, daddy fixation, sort of bland arrangements. Was hoping to enjoy this more than I did.
"Faith" is so good. I love the country western guitar solo, and the church organ intro. The instrumentation throughout has lovely little mixes of other genres, like synthetic tom drums but then it'll hit you with a lively bass line. My biggest gripe is when George Michael strains the hell out of his voice. It borders on unlistenable for me when he has these moments and I always found it to be totally unnecessary for his sound. The chorus of "I Want Your Sex" is great, it's his soft voice and it has so many good characteristics that make it nice to listen to. But then the verses are this Michael Jackson-esque scrunching of his voice and it really hurts the song. I will say that I like "Part 2" of this song a lot more. The mix is way better with the more live instrumentation. "Kissing A Fool" is fantastic. Sounds oddly Christmas-y to me though? Not sure if that was the intention, but this might get added to my ever stretching Christmas playlist. Solid album. I'm probably rating it a little low with a 3 because I think it can easily be a 4.
Honestly outside of Faith it’s nothing special. Kind of generic and I’m not a huge fan of George Michael vocals. Also sexy baby
lækre produktioner men for lang, for samey, for horny
Fine funky album by GM. I like how he allows the tracks to become longer to express his music
80’s synth pop. Not for me. Top song: “Faith” Rating: 5/10
Aivan todella viihdyttävää ja kasaria. Miksi George haistaa kainaloaan kannessa? Ei jätä muita kysymyksiä, koska on suoraviivainen niin sanomaltaan kuin tyyliltään. Voisi kyllä lopussa revitellä enemmän.
Solid pop. Very well crafted bearing some 80s-isms.
