Good stuff

god damn this fucks so hard can’t believe this came out in 1994 nearly every song is such a banger, I can’t believe I like this so much but here I am - 10/10, at time a little repetitive but not too bad

Love wu-tang, listening to Method Man extends that, and generates a banging song radio afterwards too

Fuck yeah. Keep it moving, ya punk.

Method had all the best rhymes in the 90's - Fav Track: Bring the Pain - one of my top rap songs, PERIOD.

great beats and his flow is top notch he has a way better switch of tempo compared to N.W.A. from earlier this week Probably one of the only 5 star albums where I won't add a song from it, but I can respect that this is a bomb album

Wutang Clan aint nothing to fuck with

Top album

Meth was obviously going to be the first break out star from Wu-tang but In my opinion this LP was a bit if a let down in 94 and arguably the worst of the 5 initial solo Wu-tang LPS, but we are talking about some exceptional works from ODB, Raekwon, Ghostface and Gza. In saying that though I was rapping along with the majority and this LP has aged reasonably well. 👐 Suuuuuuu!

The best cast member from the Wire on the list. Love the dirty, ominous, gritty production style. It's pretty solid throughout, with a tonne of Wu Tang swagger.

Great album for a morning run, and probably an afternoon stroll too. Favourite track: Release Yo’ Delf

Très classique, mais bon, j’ai passé un bon moment !

M-E-T-H-O-D maaaaaaan I love these early Wu projects. Just rugged and raw. A little sloppy in places but that's part of the charm.

I just love this production, it's so lively yet so dark. This album is just another world in itself, where everything is slightly out of focus. As if you spun in a full 360 circle, but then didn't come quite rightside up again, hanging at a tilt. Lots of fresh ideas in the production and it all backs Method Man's delivery so well.

Much better than I expected.

Love method man and the wu-tang! Such a good classic rap album!

Love the atmosphere in this album.

My six second cross fade was putting in some major work on this one. The sampling is just 😗🤌

This is a fun album, definitely one to come back to. It's moody with enough energy to keep me swaying in my seat. fav song: bring the pain

wel nice, beetje saai op den duur 3.5

The UK is currently gripped by record breaking temperatures and the hazy city atmosphere paired with these gritty sparse Wu-Tang beats are placing me right in the middle an early 90s east coast heatwave. In this time and place, this album is perfect

Pretty neat

Classic NY hip hop. Darker sound than Tribe Called Quest and the flows are flowing for sure. Kinda blends together after a while but a good record.

I liked it. Enjoyable Listening.

I'm not sure what I was doing, but I was oblivious to a lot of east coast rap in the 90s. This is so good. Shame on me.

My favorite of the solo albums.

Better than I thought it would be. Favorite of anything from 90s hip hop that we’ve heard, by far.

Excellent

Even with the most conventional melodies (like the highlight 'Bring the Pain') there's still an unsettling edge to it. RZA's production plays a big part. As for the lyrics, this isn't gangsta rap, or social rap. It's not about much really, except how Meth is the king and your Mum wears no knickers. Which I'm fine with. Method Man is a driving force in the Wu-Tang and he can ably carry the raps alone, supported by RZA's beats. Both elements create the Wu's dark atmosphere; and Meth brings the charisma. I simply love it when, to quote the man himself, Method Man is on some shit.

I like the song "All I need" in the ablum its hardcore and sweet in a way. The whole ablum is hardcore I like it so far. I LIKE What the blood clot now thats raw I havent heard something so smooth in a while. Old rap is where it's at i love the rhymes. Sub crazy is dumb crazyyyy the lyrics are hard and tuff I wont lie this is growing on me. Method man is too tuff. Release Yo' Delf is way too tuff what the heck man I love the singing vocals the woman ate and the beat is turnt up I would def play this during the summer riding through the street blasting this is my typa song. I like "stimulation" to its raw and also love the vocals on that and by the way the samples on all these songs is raw I like the old tunes with the back in the day kinda rap big fan of that. "Mr. Sandman" sounds so like gangsta I don't know how to explain it but I just know this was the era for rap. Like this was the blueprint. The Ablum I added some to my playlist def glad I tuned in today.

I have had to change my opinions as this list goes on. I started with a "I don't like hip hop" stance, and now I think it's just that I don't like pop-hop or whatever you want to call it. Another album by a rapper that I've thoroughly enjoyed. Method Man is great in whatever he does. Acting? Great. Rapping? Great. Definitely the best individual member of Wu-Tang.

When to listen: walking down the streets of New York. I’m not a huge hip hop connoisseur but I love the sampling and energy of this album.

It's a classic. Can't give it a perfect score only because I find it a little bit lacking in comparison to other Wu Tang solo albums of the era, but it's a great album nontheless. 4/5

This sound is still iconic and this album rips. Can’t get to a 5 as some songs bleed into each other. Still, needs to be listened to loud and intentionally. Bring The Pain hits like no other song on this list so far. Fav tracks: Bring The Pain RYM: N Saved a song: Y

Obviously a very Wu tang style of album.

Saknar de riktigt starka hook:arna från Wu-Tang, men det här var riktigt najs!

Wu-Tang forever. It's a good one. I'm slowly learning that I like RZA's production and Method Man has a delivery that also rhymes for me. I gripe a lot about Dimery's several deep dives in The List into various permutations of BritPop. I'd sooner have the list without all the Albarn and Morrissey. On the other hand, if I could put my thumb on the scale in that way, it might be fair to lose the rap albums as well. I think that we'd all be poorer for it. There's not a lot to say. I'm not the wisest of hip hop writers, or even a veteran fan. I had to grow out of a closed, small-town mind before I could really enjoy a lot of these kinds of music (that extends to heavy music and a lot of jazz, as well). This is excellent, though. 4/5

This album is like a good meal: really filling and just satisfies a certain craving. I won’t say it’s life-changing for me, but that’s not always what I’m looking for from an album. Also, I appreciate all the members of Wu Tang’s commitment to chess. It reminds me I need to do my daily puzzle training.

Ok I got kinda bored at parts cus it got kinda samey, but when it hit it hit hard. Sub crazy went hard af and the I will survive parody/cover in Release Yo Delf was soooo funny.

Pretty good. Hype stuff. Release yo delf is a banga

Wish i had listened to Wu Tang clan before but this was a nice start, really enjoyed

exactly what i want from this project is to get to listen to very influential albums that i'd never gotten around to before and go 'ooooh this is where all of xyz comes from' & this was the purest form of that. and also just an enjoyable straight forward 90s east coast rap album

third hip hop album in a row! another from the east coast; the solo debut album of method man, a member of the wu-tang clan. the album has a really mysterious, sometimes spooky sound to it. like other music from the group, this album makes usage of big beats flipped with samples from vintage kung fu films. spooky is really the best way to describe this album, like seriously. wu-tang clan, you're in the city. this album? you're in, like... a swamp. and you think there's a ghost behind you. it's a niche, but it's got strong points.

No skips banger of a classic NY rap album

Old school tunes for chilling and can’t help that I do love it

Really quite enjoyed this and found it hard to believe it came out in 1994 because it feels so ahead of its time. My main criticism of the hip hop albums I've listened to on this list is that they go on too long, but this one was different. Solid 4 for me.

Post wu-tang method man 😮‍💨😮‍💨

"Like a fax machine, you get the message." Yup.

A lesser album compared to other Wu-Tang Clan stuff coming out at the time, but even still… a banger

Impressive use of sampling means this album is always interesting.

Glorious 90'er-rap in your face. Ikke neutral, da dette er et af de albums, der gjorde min barndom i en elendig, lille havneby lidt bedre.

Down my alley. 4 solide.

*83 Solid as

Kæmpe fan, men måske også lidt farvet af at være vokset op med det. Fristet til 5 stjerner men omvendt er både Liquid Swords og 36 Chambers måske en my mere helstøbte og banebrydende… svær…

Jesus Christ. This must be what it feels like to eat caviar. It’s a really good, the Ryan’s are really really good, and the energy is just so high. I feel like I was put off from a lot of material because if it’s low-fi, dirtily mixed sound. I couldn’t really hear the lyrics, and after a while, I feel like I got kind of grading on my ears. But somethings starting to change in my life, and I now understand Wu-Tang in a more loving way. Prim, clientele and Tico are my favorite, maybe even more than 36 Chambers. It feels good to be a fan of Wu-Tang highly recommend it. This is a high four, not a five because I do feel like the album got to be a little bit tiresome at some point, since all of the rhymes are about the same thing.

First time I listened but it was about what I expected. Awesome beats and Mtg has good flow. I just vibed to it and appreciated the 90s nostalgia and Kung fu movie samples throughout.

A solid album and performance from Meth given the circumstances around this album having to be re-recorded, but you can't help but wonder how much better the original could've been.

obviously i'm no big rap fan, however this album feels different. i love the instrumentalisation, the flow, even the raps are embedded beautifully

Pretty good! Rap isn't one of my main genres, but this had a good sound to it and I enjoyed listening.

This is exactly the vibe I needed for this Friday morning. Love this style of old school sampling/lo-fi beat production and Method Man's flow is top tier.

I enjoyed the hell out of this! I now see the thread of influence you can trace from Method Man straight through DOOM and to modern indie rappers like Roc Marciano and the Griselda guys. Really cool to hear that kind of dusty, busy, dirty, hazy boom bap all the way back in 94. This was good. Must-listen #304.

Wu-Tang has such a signular sound, and this is essentially a direct sequel to 36 chambers.

i love the layers of samples both in and from this album 3.75

I wish I had had the head for hip hop in the early 90s. I missed out on so much while I was out smashing pumpkins.

Major points scored for having an appropriate runtime and ditching the 90s penchant for silly skits. As for the music, the production is not very good, with Method Man's voice being almost completely buried at times - almost like he's recording his vocals from the next room through a cardboard wall. That said, the dark vibes and atmospheric music are really neat and give this album a unique sound. 3.5/5.0: Very Good

not sure how many people were clamoring for a method man solo album when ghost was right there but here we are anyway. it did give us meth vs chef which is a fantastic track. overall the album is enjoyable

geeat!

I listen to this while I was playing GTA San Andreas, so I'll be giving a high rate.

Big mid tempo chilling and thinking sort of album. Your not gonna get catchy hooks but you will hear fantastic beats and killer rhymes

Together or on their own, Wu Tang ain’t nothing to fuck with.

Perfect

The first solo from a Wu-Tang members. I am very close to absolutely loving it but there's a few too many songs I don't really connect to. So this will be a very high 4, the middle chunk of the album is fantastic. Unique production for hip hop, very dark. I don't know how RZA gets songs to sound that way

yo hiphop! wie halt Ichs mit dem wutangclan? c

Pretty good early 90's rap album. Method Man has always had a certain smoothness to his style of rapping and this album is a great example of that. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again

Yea I really like this album, 7.7/10

One of the better solo Wu albums

I enjoyed practically every track.

Love Method’s flow and RZA’s dark jazzy beats. That said there aren’t that many truly great tracks on this.

Is Tical that disease where you pull out all of your hair? Regardless, M-E-T-H-O-D Man brings Kung Fu soundbites, songs that take entirely too long to actually start and a skill with words that impresses and perplexes me in equal measure. Overall, worth a listen.

This album was smooth boom bap lyricism. I was familiar with Wu Tang but have never listened to any of their solo work. I should’ve listened to this way earlier. The beats have that classic 90s feel and Method Man’s rapping is so good. His flow and the internal rhyme schemes in his bars are crazy and in classic method man fashion, he can really craft some expert imagery of how he’ll torture you.

Pretty entertaining. I liked it.

Groovy

Good. Some tracks sound and feel the same but overall, nice. 4/5

Great beats for the most part

Banger

That flow so ‘credible! Idk what it is about Wu-Tang but holy shit Method Man just defines it.

This whole thing is so solid. No fat to trim. What a fantastic vibe.

Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Bring the Pain, What The Blood Clot IMO Method Man has the most distinctive voice of the Wu Tang Clan members. It makes him stand out, and makes him easily recognizable when he appears on albums or tracks as a guest. As far as hip-hop albums go, this isn't as good as 36 Chambers, but it's solid, respectable entry and shows that Method Man could break out and do his own thing, not strictly having to rely on Wu Tang Clan. The album features the same stripped down, minimalist approach to beats and rhythms that are featured in 36 Chambers, and it's personally a style I really enjoy It's not overdone; there's an ever-present focus on the lyrics, not on the music. The beats are just a way to tie the lyrics to a cadence. The blurb about the album mentions "I'll Be There For You / You're All I Need To Get By" being (one of) the singles that drove the commercial success of the album, but this track doesn't even appear on the album. It's on the deluxe album, but only as remixes? Which one (if any) is the original track? Why is a "driving" single not on the original album release? Scratch this: The original track is "All I Need". It's weird that they title it differently as "the single" version.

A perfectly fine album, but I'm going to lose my shit if Tical's on the list but Only Built for Cuban Linx... and Liquid Swords aren't I'll lose my shit. Hell, I'd put Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version above this too. Meth's great but best in small doses.

*Solid hip hop record with lots of Wu-Tang cameos

Maybe high 3s, but need to listen again with more attention to lyrics for definitive

I liked WTC back in the day but hadn't explored the solo albums much. I enjoyed this album, there was nothing that really blew my mind but it was solid throughout, no skippers here. No major standouts but Release Yo' Delf is a particular banger and All I Need was a surprise (I wasn't expecting a straight up love song!). Have saved a few tracks and will listen again for sure

After 36 Chambers was released, Meth was the Wu-Tang member w/ the most breakout potential, due in large part to the hit single from their debut. And yet, in the pantheon of solo Wu records, Tical isn't celebrated to the extent that Cuban Linx..., Liquid Swords, Ironman, Supreme Clientele, and Return to the 36 Chambers are. I'd like to think that's b/c Method Man was far stranger than anybody could've imagined, tho 'Method Man' isn't your everyday rap hit. The thirteen tracks that make up Tical are all beautifully odd in one way or another, w/ choruses and standalone lyrics that reclaim strangeness as hardness: 'Is it real, son, is it really real, son? / Let me know it's real, son, if it's really real'; 'The ism helps to stimulate my pugilism.'

I can’t remember if I’ve heard this album all the way through before, but if I did, it would’ve been back in the 90s. What I do remember are all the DJ mixtapes that featured these tracks, not to mention the countless samples that have been pulled from this album over the years. Ultimately, it’s a classic that has aged pretty good. What really stands out to me are the dark, murky beats and the smoky atmosphere running through the production, they give the whole record a moody vibe.

I had a great time listening through this album. I love how varied the songs are, and how Method Man does some quirky things with his voice at times to mix it up. Some great features on here as well, big thumbs up. Best Track: All I Need

I'd group Method Man's debut solo album with ODB's debut solo album. In fact, I'd say both emcees are quite alike and have the same challenge for me: How can two emcees whose style is incredible in small bursts handle a full-length solo album? And while I do think ODB's debut solo album excels in showcasing everything that made him so incredible, Method Man (and the RZA) also manage to mostly play to his strengths on this album as well. The whole thing is intoxicating, bassy, fat, submerged. I attribute that to the sparse beats and the really low-end-oriented mix of the songs here. It's an acquired taste, and it creates a pretty surreal atmosphere, especially when unorthodoxly paired with some of the more cuthroat moments here, like with 'Meth Vs. Chef'. But you'll also just get some incredible classic Wu-Tang songs here, some of the very best. Starting with the obvious banger 'Bring The Pain', which in all its boom bap '90s rapisms, still manages to sound relentlessly Wu-tang in its production and in Method Man's lyrical style. 'What The Blood Clot' sounds clearer than anything else here, for some reason, and 'Release Yo' Delf' was pretty forward-thinking for the Wu-Tang Clan in the mid-'90s in general, given the cleaner production. The absolute best song for me has always been 'Mr. Sandman's though - not only because I just can't get enough of RZA's disjointed rapping style from around this time, but the whole thing is just so hilariously over-the-top and again captures everything I love about this group. Clearly, a bit of RZA's Gravediggaz sounds slip into this one as well. And shoutout to Street Life, he's one of these mostly unknown Wu affiliates, but he absolutely kills his verse on this song. It might be hard to believe, but this really is one of my LEAST favorite Wu golden-age solo albums, yet it's still so great.

Taking a few days off from this for the holidays, but I've listened to this one so much that I don't really need a dedicated listen to chime in. One of my favorite Wu-Tang projects, thereby making it one of my favorite rap albums. I've never found Method Man's lyrics terribly deep, but I love his flow, and he's one of my favorite baritone rappers. RZA's production is typically perfect — everything that he touched from this era sounds of a piece but never gets boring. Probably not one of the masterpieces of the genre, but it's a classic and "Bring the Pain" is one of the coolest songs ever. If you're running into this for the first time, seek out the "Razor Sharp Mix" of "I'll Be There For You / You're All I Need to Get By," a remixed version of "All I Need" featuring Mary J Blige, released as a single in the wake of Tical.

enjoyed this more than i thought i would to be fair

I appreciate Wu-Tang as much, if not a bit more, than the next guy and maintain that as a hip-hop group their solo talent and production is pretty much unparalleled. And yet for as much as I enjoy Method Man and his solo cut from Enter the Wu-Tang , I have never listened to this album. After listening straight through on two separate occasions, I'm left feeling that this is among the second tier of their collective works. Solid, with some moments that shine, but far from the greatness that is Liquid Swords or Supreme Clientele. This album keeps with the unifying RZA production of Wu-Tang, albeit even more minimal and erring towards sloppy at times. While the beats are often effective, I think this is far from his best work. While I appreciate the juxtaposition of the bottomed out bass and high keys on Biscuits, the beat has an unfinished feel about it. Separately the Marvin Gaye sample on All I Need doesn't mix, standing a little too proud relative to the rest of an otherwise great song. Tical is a surprisingly minimal opener. This falsetto call and response bit cracks me up. I do appreciate that Biscuits continues his infatuation with sticking hangers up peoples asses. Bring the Pain jams pure and simple -- I've heard the "Is it really real son" line called out in other works. Meth vs. Chef is a fine face off between the two Wu members, and the only other posse cut, Mr. Sandman is a fine entry. This falls around a low 4 for me.

Yup. Straight off the 36 Chambers and staying methodical about it.

Classic Wu sound. Great production. Great Flow. Not sure why I don't listen to this as often as Liquid Swords or Ironman?

Even less than classic albums by members of the Wu Tang Clan are still generally pretty good albums.

Some classic hip hop .

I kind of liked it!

The beats are pretty nasty. Loved the grungey vibe.

Dark and melodic and pretty awesome.

The Method Man was the original name for Len Houmous’ answer to The Karma Sutra. He later changed the name to ‘Sex For Dummies’ by Len Houmous. It led to a whole range of ‘for Dummies’ books and the rest is history! 3.8 3/13 Bring The Pain

Really enjoyed this. Had a couple of these tracks on a mix tape, but had never heard the full album. Would happily add this to my collection if I came across it.

Even if it’s not my usual genre, I can tell this one’s good. Gritty, smoky, and full of that early Wu-Tang darkness. “Bring the Pain” stands out, and the minimalist “ding-ding-ding” production gives it that unmistakable 90s New York mood. Not exactly office-safe, but definitely a classic.

Usually Wu-Tang adjacent works for me and this was something I've not listened to before. It's very famialiar in sound, but less aggressive in feel. I really liked the groove inherent in the beats, while the verses are on occasion quite aggressive, the delivery for the most part is not. Will listen again!

#741. Good shit. 4/5: decent

Raw but polished, like a lot of Wu-Tang productions to be honest. This album is a classic for a reason and it still sounds great. It's not the best solo album from the Wu-Tang stable, that'd be Supreme Clientele, but it's still a very good record.

I got into this. Unique sound, from dark and somewhat ominous to the high voice that completely shifts the vibe. Its smart. Love it.

Old school rap

I liked this. I don't really have any insight other than there have been several hip hop albums from this era on this list. Wu Tang and Wu Tang adjacent stuff has been consistently good.

like, divertido, cool, me gusto All I need

whatever, I liked it!

I appreciate the style and aesthetic.

Impressive.

Stark fyra.

Discazo. Entre mis 5 discos favoritos. Muy copiado e imitado. No todo esto es cierto.

I don’t know shit about this genre or anything adjacent, really, but this is banging Solid 7.5/10 1/10/25

There's a fair argument that Method Man was the most talented out of Wu-Tang clan (although Raekwon might have something to say about it). In any case, this is a really good album.

Cooler Rap, etwas düster

Quite dark in tone, but always love Method and Wu-Tang in general. Not as good as Liquid Swords but few albums are.

Несподівано дуже сподобався. Початок не впечатлив, але під кінець альбом розкручується. Не подобається альбомний формат в хіп-хопі, але цей прям порадував

What's that shit that they be smoking? TICAL! This was supposed to be the big Wu Tang breakout star and he was really upstaged by Raekwon, Ghostface and The GZA! The hype around this was crazy and due to a flood and other cats dropping classics this one is a level below those ones. Still solid but seems to be missing something!

I like your methods, man

Hip hop, like it

There was a line that I really enjoyed but I have now forgotten it

This mostly passed me by in the 90s but it's really good. Method Man's voice has so much gravitas to it and the production feels like it's doing new and interesting things with hip hop.

Great beats and rhymes.

love the dark vibes

Do not fuck with Wu-Tang...

I got to see Method Man perform with the Wu-tang Clan. He definitely aged better than the rest of the group. I enjoy his very distinct voice and style that he brings to his raps.

Banger of an album. Had not listened to method man. This was an awesome introduction

8/10, 8/10 Jessie, 8/10 Abe

I really liked this. Great raps, and it has dark undertones while still maintaining a sense of lightness in the song compositions and lyrical delivery. At least that's what it sounds like to me. At any rate, I enjoyed the method.

An amazing example of the wutang style and it’s an absolute jam, a couple tracks try a palette im not the biggest fan of but still a great album

First time listening to anything Wu-Tang aside from 36 Chambers. This was fantastic.

A damn good 90s rap album, with a consistantly dark, downtrodden feeling through the whole thing. Made me appreciate method man on a new level. Best: Bring the Pain Worst: P.L.O Style

Best era of rap. Not much needed to say about how great this record is.

I'm honestly a little conflicted on this. I think it sounds a little too much like 36 chambers. On one hand, this is great, since I love that album. On the other hand, I wish he separated his sounded a little more from that project. Still a solid album overall.

Weird timing that I saw Wu-Tang live on Saturday night, then got this album on Monday. Still classic.

Ad una certa rappano su “I’ll survive” e ho volato alto

Enjoyed it. Prefer Wu Tang over the solo albums, but was a good listen from start to end. Standout songs: Bring the Pain What the blood clot Mr Sandman

This one grabbed from the outset, an unexpected snatch of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition played on an old modular synth followed by a sample from a king fu movie (which is pretty much de rigueur for anything related to the Wu Tang Clan). From this point on, the obvious samples are dialled down and the music is dark, downbeat and dangerous. The lyrics have a cheeky sense of humour though, with one typical dis being ‘Yo Momma don’t wear no drawers!’. I also enjoyed a lyrical riff on the song ‘I Will Survive’ and a surprisingly sweet and heartfelt love song called ‘All I Need’.

A solid hip hop album; the guy knows how to rap, the flow is great, the background music is dark and simple (no particular melodies you can sing along) but powerful and very efficient.

Dark, subdued boom-bap hip-hop following the Wu-Tang Clan era. Great flows, great beats, great writing. Thoroughly enjoyed this one and it’s pretty timeless.

I love Meth, but this has never been my favorite of his works.

It's too bad that Tical is a victim of circumstance. As has been said many times, Method Man was sort of the star who broke out after the release of Wu Tang classic 36 chambers, and this album was very hotly anticipated. Unfortunately, being the first Wu Tang solo album after 36 Chambers meant being very directly compared to it, and it would have been nearly impossible for Tical to meet this astronomical expectation. Additionally, the year after (1995) saw the release of Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx *and* Liquid Swords: By Wu Tang members O.D.B., Raekwon, and GZA respectively. Liquid Swords and Cuban Linx are often considered among the best rap albums of all time, and in comparison, Tical was a little raw, a little weird and a little rough around the edges. But it doesn't even get the underdog crowd, since O.D.B.'s "Return..." is *much* rawer, *much* weirder, and *much* rougher around the edges, making it the cult classic. This leaves Tical as a middle child: a really great album in a run of all-timers. That being said, this *is* a really great album. Tical achieves a very consistent tone: the beats, the lyrics and the delivery all serve the purpose of making a consistently eerie, gritty vibe that just permeates this album. And this is one of Tical's greatest strengths and weaknesses, the consistency of tone makes this a really absorbing, atmospheric listen, but it also makes some of these tracks run together a little, especially because a lot of the deep cuts here are a little light on hooks, which I don't really consider an intrinsically bad thing, and it does serve the album's overall tone, but it does mean I have a hard time keeping some of these songs straight in my mind. That being said, Method Man is a compelling character across this, and his lyrics show a level of craftsmanship and care that I would expect of Wu Tang at this time, and I do have some stand out songs. All I Need incorporates some romance into the album without sacrificing the tone. Meth Vs. Chef has some great dueling verses with the Raekwon feature. Release Yo' Delf features an I Will Survive interpolation that steadily grew on me, and I now think its an endearing, catchy, and unique addition here. Mr. Sandman is a classic Wu Tang posse cut. And while the Method Man remix at the end here is just a remix of the 36 Chambers song, it *is* still hard to complain about. Overall, even though this is one of the less interesting projects in the classic Wu Tang run, it is still a consistently great rap project that shows a lot of Method Man's character in a very atmospheric, tonally consistent context.

First solo album from the Wu, this goes so incredibly hard.

Classic…not as good as full Wu-Tang albums but still great.

Lots of 90s albums lately, huh? It’s getting a bit tiresome. This was good, though.

Enjoyed this because you can move to it and appreciate the lyrical content too.

That boom bap holds a place in my heart. Method isn't my favourite Wu Tang Rapper, it's often like he still has some food in his mouth. But looking at todays rap, it's not that bad.

Really cool album with interesting production

I am method man Taking into consideration all lives Rza production incredible, flow nasty, love song cool

Yeah this is an underrated gem. The Wu-Tang are my favorite rap group and I think 36 Chambers is my favorite rap album. Method Man's solo work is really great and the beats here are great. I love All I Need.

Good rap, but not the best Wu-Tang Clan solo album.

i'm admittedly not a huge hip-hop guy, but this feels like my zone. rad beats, vocal rhythm is really tight and in the pocket, not one of the 90's rap albums that filled itself out with a bunch of skits and annoying shit. didn't rock my world but i enjoyed it. beyond the technical aspects, i'm kind of lacking in info that helps me form a solid opinion but that's not the album's fault, just a gap in my cultural knowledge.

I've always envied the kind of guys who were able to really get into Wu Tang. I've tried. I've enjoyed it when I tried. They're great. There's so much there. But at some point I always move on to something else and nothing really sticks. Tical by Method Man was a fun listen. There were some really funny rhymes and lines that stuck out to me. All I need was the toughest love song I've ever heard. I tried to listen to it a second time to write this review but kept getting distracted. I'm glad to know this album exists. Will listen again.

my lil former pothead hip hop wife used to listen to this. she says gza pulled her onstage at a show once and she didn't know what to do. danced around a little. that she likes method man's voice. i do too. this one's new to me though. album art. double smoke blows. dark and druggy mood, got it. title track. off the bat, this is heavy, thick, coarse. wall of bass. i like it. and the real squeaky voice guy asking to pass it over here. good news: this album sounds like the art looks. meth vs. chef is fun. sub crazy mmph. bustin nuts in your wife lol. let me pull ya brain out ya ass with a hanger. ooh ooh do me next. is the "release yo delf" intro "i will survive" parody singing dumb? it seems dumb. settles in after that. pretty relentless. lol i like the skit/audio of all the bees and the guy screaming. i always liked the kung fu movie ones. how many chambers, fellas? i keep forgetting. plo style is no frills great. i get my thang. tribe called quest beat, but murky and menacing. mr. sandman is fuckin weird and better for it. that singing guy. also, “runnin through bitches like emmitt smith”. 1994. enjoyed the whole thing three times. maybe a little same-y throughout. kinda paints with one tone brush. if i saw it for the right price, i'd buy it.

Exceeded my expectation.

first listen fierce

Yes yes and a massive yes. God this sounded good. I never regret listening to anything Wu shaped

I think I've listened to Tical before, and it had the same effect each time, good, but nothing stood out, and I ended up forgetting just about every track by the time it was done. I'm going for 4 stars anyway, but only because I know I will listen to this again in the future.

I think this album tends to get overshadowed by some of the other albums from the first round of Wu-Tang solo releases. I don't like it as much as Only 4 Cuban Linx or Liquid Swords, but at the same time it's a hell of an album. RZA's unbelievable string of hits continues with this album, and Method Man always sounds great. The tragic thing is that some of the tracks for this album were lost in RZA's basement flood, but despite that, this album is still a stellar addition to the Wu-Tang pantheon 4/5

Solid hip hop album. Steady strong beat, great samples. Layered lyrics that deserve more than a single listen.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. The music itself creates an atmosphere that appeals to me. Stupid skits kept to a minimum and when used actually kind of fit. The mixing isn't great, with the vocals buried and at times hard to hear.

Tidy album

There is not much to say for me here. It's good. It's a Method Man solo album, one of his better works. The reviews are going to be all over the place because there are a lot of "it's classic hip hop, gotta give it a 5" people out there, but probably more "I can't understand the words, I don't like hip-hop, 1 or 2" people. That being said, this probably a mandatory listen for someone who wants to get into hip-hop at a deeper cultural level, not that is mandatory to enjoy it. 4/5

Release Yo' Delf is Chad. There's some men songs but most are really good.

Practically a Wu-Tang album & Wu-Tang is forever.

Old school hip-hop spit by one of the wordiest Wu Tang members? Yes, please.

classic wu tang clan.

There is a lot of Wu-Tang Clan albums on this list (or records by its members). And to be honest, this one had a really good atmosphere. Gritty, dark, perfect album for a rainy day. I like the beats, which seem to be similar to a simple rock/metal riffs. Pretty interesting style of rapping by Method Man, overall just pleasant album to listen to.

Bars for days. Your typical rough and tough straight Wu-Tang stuff. Unexpected bangers: PLO Style, What the Blood Clot, Mr. Sandman, Stimulation.

I liked it. I’m really going through the motions with these albums, but this one was good. Had never heard of him before. I’d like to return to it.

if I had to rank the original 9 members of Wu-Tang, I feel like Method Man would come in around the middle. I don't think he's quite as unique of a voice compared to other members of that group, but he consistently holds his own on 36 Chambers, and this debut solo album goes down pretty well, too. I think this could've done with a few more features to bring a bit more variety to things; the RZA's production is solid as ever but, coming off of an album as vibrant as the debut Wu-Tang record, you definitely miss hearing Method Man in a group dynamic. decent 7/10.

Really enjoyed this. More than I expected to!

I’m always down for this kind of thing. Nothing groundbreaking but an enjoyable listen.

wow, I don't think I've ever listened to this album all the way through. Just so many Wu albums I guess I missed the seminal debut. 🤷🏻

Top 90s wutang album. Good beats and rhythms.

Pretty good, gets a little bit more experimental in the second half. There aren't a lot of moments that I would deem a classic but it's mostly great thorough.

My kind of weirdo's boom bap hip-hop.

I can get behind this whole heartedly. It’s got a great flow, iconic features, beats are well integrated. Lyrics are what’d you expect from this era. No big hits, but I don’t mind. It’s fun throughout and I enjoyed it. I’d happily listen to any of these songs again. 4/5

Oh no, not another hour-long rap album! I thought, stupidly. This album hits hard, and for once I didn’t mind the length. Dirty beats, agressive rapping, all around à vert good album. But as a non-connaisseur of rap, it didn’t amaze me.

Bring the Pain and All I Need are great, and the rest is pretty solid

Alright, Wu-Tang solo album #3! It's time to talk about Method Man's debut album, Tical. This one's pretty good. I think Method Man has a great voice for rapping, and his flow is strong. RZA's production on the album is great as always. It feels a bit different in comparison to the production on something like Liquid Swords, but it's still great. The lyrics are also great. One interesting thing about this album is that appearances of other Wu-Tang members is minimal. Aside from Method Man and RZA, the only other members to appear here are Raekwon and Inspectah Deck with one verse each. I'm okay with that though. Sometimes you just have to let Method Man do his thing and see if it pays off. Fortunately, it paid off. Tical is a good album. I wouldn't say it's as good as Liquid Swords, but I'd say it's a bit better than Fishscale. Light 4/5. I've now given 5 4s in a row, but I'm okay with that. It means it's been a while since I got a bad album, and that's all I really want.

apparently only one of the tracks here was recorded by RZA before his studio flooded and destroyed dozens of tracks, so he had to remake a lot of these really quick and maybe you could explain why so many of the songs here sound... well, not wrong, but also not right. it's dark, it's gritty, it's boom bap that feels like the boom is in someone's dark, flooded basement and the bap is a chair slammed over your head. Method's flow and wordplay is always great, but i'd consider it to add a bit of a strange contrast to the sounds here -- a lot of the time, he brags, but he brags from what sounds like New York in Taxi Driver mixed with a depressing, spider-like dystopia. of course, on tracks like "Mr. Sandman" or "Bring the Pain", he knows exactly what he owns, and what it's worth in a world of horrors. most of the beats here creep me the fuck out, and it's odd to go from a fun battle rap beat like "Meth vs. Chef" to "Sub Crazy" with the weird dying tape voice playing over bitcrushed drums while Meth continues to do his thing. it's horrifying, demented; i love it to bits. this would be an awful record to smoke weed to. or a great one, if you like feeling as if the pizza man is going to stab you in the dick and laugh instead of give you your fucking pizza.

nice and listenable start to finish

Enjoyed this

I got more into this as I went on! Surprised me. Quite serious music it felt like. But it put a pep on my step

Method Man - Tical, 81/100. (Official Rating: 8.1/10) Posted on, “Album of the Year," "Rate Your Music" and “ MJ’s Album Reviews.” Official Ranking of the Year: Genre: East Coast Hip Hop, Hip Hop, Artist: Method Man Date: 11/19/24 “Method Man speaks out to me. Directs my attention to his diverse samples, ideas and experiences. It’s a great feeling to be in his shoes.”

Reading reviews of hip hop albums on this site is always hilarious. You have people typing up long dissertations, going into extreme detail about how influential or innovative an album is and how impressive the music is overall. Then you have users describing this music like a toddler would describe the taste of their least favorite vegetable. "It sounds yucky!" "I hate rap and asking me to stretch my musical imagination for less than an hour is a lot to ask, 1/5." Anyway, this album is great. It makes a great double feature with 36 Chambers but is good enough on it's own. Lyrics are mindful, revolutionary and comedic when they need to be. The production is both laid back and aggressive. If you are listening to this album and thinking "how did this make it on this list" I am begging you to grow up.

Like it a lot.

Simply just some badass rap from the Wu-Tang family. (also, this is the second solo album we've gotten from the group in the span of a week lol) Solid 4 Stars.

I’m at a very enjoyable 4.5 that I’ll once again drop back down to a 4. I dunno, even though I liked most of this, I just don’t think it quite gets up to a 5 for me. I can’t even really explain why; maybe a few beats fell flat, or sometimes the mixing felt off, but as a whole, I never quite found myself fully in the zone with this album like I have with other rap albums, and even other albums by Wu-Tang members. That’s not to say this is bad; when this album does enter a flow state, it’s a really good flow state, but it only lasts temporarily. There’s great bits of energy, wordplay, vocals and flow all over this album, & as an entire front to back album, it’s a relatively coherent project that breezes by. This didn’t feel like 43 minutes, in a very good way. Method Man’s pretty damn good at this, and the features throughout this album are super fun. I just don’t think that many tracks hit the plateau of “great” – I’m going by feel here, really. There’s definitely standouts, namely “Bring The Pain”, “All I Need”, “Release Yo’ Delf”, & “I Get My Thang In Action”. Those are my top 4 that I’d call “great”, but all 13 tracks here are pretty good. I guess it’s odd to say “it never stays great long enough to get up to a 5”, but I guess that’s where I’m at with it; just the intangibles that didn’t quite click with me the way they could have. It might be a mood thing, and this could probably easily bump itself up at a later point, but for now, I’m fine bumping it down to a 4. Still pretty recommended though; Wu-Tang Clan still ain’t nothin’ to fuck with.

The 37th chamber

Awesome flow, album feels a bit too long.

4 - I can’t ever fully enjoy this older sound because it often blends together with pretty rudimentary drum loops and fee samples. This one had a few that really stood out creatively especially in Release Yo’ Def

mjögmjöggott. 4,5.

Heard a lot of tracks from this album but never the whole thing end-to-end. Embarrassed that I've only discovered that I really like this album now in 2024. Creative beats, great flow, holds together throughout with few drops in quality.

wu tang member doing wu tang things. old school rap is great. 7.5/10

Looooove this album

Man I fuckin love rza

this was a big one for me back in the day and it really holds up !!

Amazing rap record! I always liked this one a lot. Everything related to Wu-Tang Clan deserves a listen if you like rap. This album is dark and very cool.

"The Buddha Monk on the hunt for machine gun funk" is one of many bars I've absolutely glommed from this album, so let me get raw with my southpaw style while puffing on a fat blunt from Cuba... One of the better Wu Tang solo albums, Method has that drawly flow thats just superb, literally sucking in all the air in the room as he does it. RZA production is sublime also, just a great album overall.

really solid album from method man. it started a little slow for me, but after the first 1/3 of the album, it really picked up for me. consistent through this release is strong rapping with great flow, really solid production, and a dark, almost low-key feel. it's not the most in your face bombastic album, but it still has energy, even though it feels more subdued than other rap albums of the time. i particularly enjoyed 'bring the pain' and 'method man (remix)'.

THIS IS WHY METHOD MAN SAYS TICALLLL ON ALL HIS SONGS OMG. Dude I just have a love for Wu-tang like no other. The samples and beats on this are nuts. Meth vs Chef is literally Spiderman vs Venom two of the greats just going head to head in a rap battle just having so much fun. Release Yo Delf Blue Rasberry singing on this is amazing as a backing track the beat. I always loved how much confidence that Method man rapped with and he just goes to town on this. Mr sandman sample sounding so evil and RZA being awesome but the second verse with Insectah Deck is Iconic and METH has a bar that goes "peace to the number 7 (G) everybody else get the 4-9-3-11" or as it is translated 4(D) 9(I) 3(C) 11(K) DICK WILD BAR truly artistry here even if some of the middle tracks pass me by. Wu-Tang forever

this was cool and chill and i loved the beats and would listen again.

I’m loving this. So much good stuff. Funny, romantic and badass at the same time. Really sweet, witty storytelling. Good beats, good flow. Feels like real music. 4/5

honestly really enjoyed this! didn’t fall into the traps of a lot of 90s rap and was enjoyable throughout. more chill overall

Bring the pain and sit a spell

"Tical" is the debut album by American rapper and Wu-Tang member Method Man. It was the first Wu-Tang solo album and was produced by Wu-Tang member RZA and noted for its dark, murky and rugged sound. The lyrical themes include cannabis smoking, project love and traditional hard core rap subjects. The album title is an acronym for taking into consideration all lives. The album did well commercially hitting #4 in the US. The title track "Tical" opens the album with karate chops and a TV karate- movie voice. It's got a chill groove and pretty much is about smoking pot. The first single "Bring the Pain" continues the chill groove. Method Man comes out hard and fast. A constant beat. He'll kick your ass! Blue Rasberry is featured as she sings to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" song melody in "Release Yo' Delf." This is overlayed with Method Man rapping to a Herb Alpert song melody. Method Man is strong and will survive in the industry. A whole group is involved in "Mr. Sandman." RZA, Carlton Fisk, Inspectah Deck, Street Life and Method Man strut their stuff while Blue Rasberry sings "Mr. Sandman" in the background. This album has an overall chill vibe similar to the hip hop of the time like Dre and Wu-Tang. There's clever rhymes and timely sampling. The lyrics are pretty standard hip hop: don't mess with him, he's a bad ass and will survive. Overall, one of the several strong solo albums from the Wu-Tang clan.

I really liked this album even though rap/hip hop is not a favorite genre of mine. Kept my head bobbing. Interesting lyrics. Unique sampling. Good all around!

The first thing that comes to mind with Tical is consistency. Start to finish its very good album. Nothing overly stand out, but Method man does have great flow. 7.9/10

Unique, skunk haze funky hip hop, gutsy beats with a perpetual forward motion, dissolves effortlessly into the background but lingers. Not assertive but persistent. Extremely satisfying, a brilliant album.

I dig Meth more than Denizens outside my school Album holds up well. The first solo album after Enter the 36 Chambers, Meth continues to shine as a charming rapper who tries to still be hardcore. RZA's grimy production helps make the Wu-Tang sound different than their peers. We used to use "Biscuits" to test out the bass of car stereos when I was a wayward son. Albums were harder to come by back in this era though. I definitely did not rock this in 1994. Took a few years to make its way to The Deer. Loads of memories associated with this album. Great debut.

Wu-Tang Clan is something you'd want to have a friend around, if you were thinking of fucking with. Halfway through I was going to go 3 stars and say "I like it but want more variety in 50 minutes". I didn't have it turned up loud enough.

Cool! Definitely wasn't expecting a Method Man album on here, but I'll take it. A lot of this has that signature Wu-Tang, dusty sampling type of sound, and it works well. Had not heard any of this before but I'll be walking away with a few songs and a bit more respect for Method Man. Great album! Favorite tracks: Tical, Biscuits, What the Blood Clot, PLO Style, Mr. Sandman. Album art: Couldn't tell what this was on my phone, but I see now it's half of Meth's face from the side, as he's maybe blowing some smoke? Upside down Wu-Tang logo, an old timey banner across the middle, and a much smaller pic of Meth's face in the bottom right. A bit of a mess to be honest, don't love this cover. 4/5

OK, ntot my thing but I can actually listen to it

Un excellent album d'un ex Wu-Tang. Ça sonne old school mais en même temps en avance sur son temps. Le style de beat et de production est vraiment bon et son style de rap s'accorde super bien avec. Définitivement à garder en rotation. 8.5/10

yes brother

This was pretty cool - I liked it more than I expected to. I’d never listened to anything by Wu-Tang or its individual artists before, and this made me excited to hear more. There’s a dark, gritty atmosphere that I find very appealing, and no skits is a plus. This isn’t the sort of album I’d consider to be in my wheelhouse, and I’m not that likely to come back to it, but if only for subverting my expectations, I think 3.5 ~ 4 is fair.

Just shy of a classic, but I have to love the fact that in a sea of bloated '90s rap albums, this came in at a tight 43 minutes.

The flow on this is engaging and steady. The beats are dark, murky, and gritty. I'm definitely a fan of this. I haven't ever really delved into Wu-Tang Clan or any of their members so this was my first experience with them. Probably most accurately a 3.5, but I think in this case it's more of a round up than round down situation.

Enjoyed this, and agree it’s better than Raekwon’s effort even if that seems to be more critically acclaimed. I just thought this had more going for it, better beats, samples, tunes etc. Prefer his voice too. Didnt get much ‘im a fucking hard case’ from this which I liked. Will be back

Probably the best of the Hip Hop / Gangsta Rap albums we've had. Considered lyrics, cool voice, interesting use of samples. And he was good in The Wire.

Raekwon then method man a few days apart! Much preferred this to raekwon, takes itself less seriously, less gangsta stuff, more fun. Cleaner beats. Method man has a great voice too. Highlights: Bring the pain What the blood clot Mr sandman Still not sure what Tical is though?? 4, will be back

Just a solid east coast hip hop album. Gritty and “greazy”.

Very solid 90s hiphop album. I never gave it too much attention, but still like it especially after a couple of listens.

Yes please, really like the low end on All I need and Stimulation.

Hell yeah! Wu Tang for the win!

Bumpin’

Never really listened to Wu-Tang but definitely check out more of their discography based off of this one. Solid album

Good album, the beats are awesome.

The more albums I hear that were produced by RZA, the more I appreciate his creative and haunting production style. Tical is definitely one of the best solo efforts from members of the Wu-Tang Clan. “Tical,” “What The Blood Clot,” and “I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By” are the best songs on a very strong album. Honestly was not expecting to be this impressed by Method Man’s debut solo effort, but his rhymes are great and the production puts it over the top.

Okey Fav songs: Biscuit All i need <)

Arguably I am culturally very remote from anything Rap, HipHop etc. So I cannot really judge the woth of this effort in its context. But from out of context, it flows nicely with me. I like the atmosphere, I like the rhythms, the production - and like the flow of the individual performances. I could not listen to this kind of music the whole time, but this one resonates with me, and from what I can make up off the lyrics by just listening, it is def. no brutish Gangsta stuff or such kind. It will not end up on any of my lists, but in the context of what has been presented here so far, it is def above average...

Mjög solid plata hjá MM. Set þessa á vinnuplötulista.

Fínasta rappplata. Góðir textar og ekkert rugl.

I love how nerdy the lyrics are! So rad to hear star trek references. The beats are soooo rad, they're low and meaty and very fun. It took me too long to get into wu-tang!

Wutangish production from the RZA still sounds good as hell. I must finally get around to giving their catalog its due listenting. Retro and fresh all at once. Pretty good rapping for my tastes and finds that balance of stupid and smart that makes for all the best rap albums. Example ignorant/clever lyrics: Alaikum as-salaam, drops bombs like Qur'an The ism helps to stimulate my pugilism I bust rhymes like jism Impregnate the rhythm with the wisdom

This feels like the quintessential gagster rap album. I still have to take a star off for misogyny, but this is as good as gangster rap gets.

I was today years old when I realized that Method Man has a lisp. Doesn’t matter one bit. This album is a banger even if I am WAAAAAAAY outside the target audience. It makes me think about why I’m outside the target audience and that’s not bad.

With its raw lyricism, impeccable production, and compelling themes, the album continues to resonate with listeners decades after its release, solidifying Method Man's legacy as one of hip-hop's greatest storytellers.

Solid first solo outing from wu tang. Bring the pain is an alltimer. tbh I like the mixing.

Finally! Something good! This is a really good album!

Grooved to this one, definitely talented. Ends as it starts to get “samey”

Kova meno... alkaa ymmärtää hip hop tärkeys tylsässä musiikki menossa.. Hip Hop kumpuaa aitoudesta..

Pretty solid, very fun rhythm tracks. Don't know if I'd listen to regularly, but definitely could put it on in the car. Top tracks: Being the Pain, All I Need, Release Yo' Delf

As a 54 year old white male, I can't help but feel like this was geared towards me, so it's no real surprise that I enjoyed it.

this fucks!!! the way method man raps is super interesting, and unique. my favorites are: Tical, Bring The Pain, All I Need

36 Chambers is one of my favorite albums of all time. I never heard anything off this album. I thought it was good, not great and wanted to like it more than I did. Granted, I wasn’t 100% focused on the lyrics when listening. Still love meths style. Notable tracks include bring the pain, release yo delf, meth vs. chef.

I was impressed. Some interesting songwriting combined with occasionally inspired music choices.

Really solid album, great beats, great flow, I like the darker edge to the production. Maybe a couple tracks that didn't hook me in as much, but I could see myself revisiting this one for sure.

The first Wu-Tang solo record I’ve listened to, this wasn’t surprising but it was fun

Method man is one of the most unique and all around talented entertainers. His first solo album and first off from the Wu showed that with RZA on production they can make great individual albums. This is an excellent rap album that shows lyrical creativity and depth, something method man always produces. This is an easy revisit. 7.9/10

Damn. Just... DAMN. Amazing stuff here, but we already knew that Wu-Tang ain't nothing to f**k with. Hearing the first solo album from a. member of the Wu-Tang Clan is pretty amazing. I picked up their first album used, but it is still a statement. So is Method Man's first solo album. I was dumbstruck hearing the Gloria Gaynor sample on "Release Yo Delf". It worked so damn well. "Method Man (remix)" is also very catchy. Method Man's flow is just amazing, and the other Wu-Tang Clan guesting was pretty smart. Top tracks: "Mr. Sandman," "Method Man," "Release Yo Delf"

Pretty classic east coast rap vibes. A slightly grungy rap feel. Solid if not spectacular

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought! My knowledge of '90s rap like Wu Tang is sorely lacking, so this was a fun surprise. Full of colourful lines like I BUST RHYMES LIKE JISM

Having seen Method Man live twice, this guy brings the most energy to any concert I've been to. It's been a while since I've listened to this album, and I forgot how good it was from start to finish. If I were to introduce someone to Method Man today, I'd play the Method Man & Redman collab album, The Blackout.

Wu-Tang is for the kids. Nothing is wasted here - no pointless skits just awesome production and awesome rhymes. Method on fire and RZA supplies everything you need production wise. Best Tracks: Bring The Pain; Meth Vs. Chef; Release Yo' Delf

Any Wu-Tang solo album that came out in between 36 Chambers and Wu Tang Forever is a certified banger. They were untouchable on that run.

He’s got the method, man.

Tical = Taking into consideration all lives. Son 1er album en dehors du Wu-Tang clan. Du bon thug lugubre. Très old school. Y'a des albums de 4 qui sont meilleurs, mais c'est un gros 4 pour le style de musique surtout.

Having not listened to too much Wu Tang, I was eager to dig into this album. Definitely didn't disappoint. Beats were on point and heavy. Flows were tight and lyrics were interesting. Would need to give this a few more listens to really digest but on first blush, I'd definitely give this another couple spins. Bring the Pain, What the Blood Clot, Release Yo' Delf, Mr. Sandman

3.9 one of my fave solo wu tang records fave songs: meth vs chef, bring the pain, tical, mr sandman

Really nice east coast hip-hop. Dark, heavy, great flow

These early Wu-Tang solo projects are so fire. You can really tell that the entire collective had a fire lit in them. I think this is still one of the best showcases of Method Man's skill. The beats by RZA are also fantastic. Super dark and cavernous. I love the drum sound in particular.

For some reason this one took me until the second listen to really enjoy it- honestly not my preferred style of 90s hip hop but it's hard to dislike a Wu Tang/Wu Tang adjacent album so. 4 stars!

Fun listen. Slowly getting exposed to some classic hip hop. Like the "spooky" vibe here

i love me some 90s hip hop

Enjoying this genre more than I thought I would, good variation between songs

Method Man's voice is sooo good. Was surprised to hear a love song on there in All I Need. Release Yo Delf and PLO Style were also great. Will definitely come back to this one

Method Man isn't my favorite Wu member, but his flow is always solid and accusatory. He's ok lyrically, but he really shines with his beats and accompaniments.

Not as good as some other wu tang related stuff, mostly because Method Man just isnt as good on the mic as a GZA or Ghostface Killah is. But its still a great 90s hiphop album!

Love that

I'm gonna rate this the same as I rated Liquid Swords and Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx. They're all great projects with their own strengths and weaknesses, and are all slightly weaker than 36 Chambers. This album felt darker than the other comparable solo records and cut out a lot of the filler present in both, but had muddier production for some tracks. I also think Method Man's vocal delivery might be my favorite out of Wu-Tang. 8/10

- Heard Wu-Tang albums before but not Method Man solo - Really good but not on the level of 36 Chambers - Aged very well compared to some of the other older hip-hop albums on the list - Fav songs: All I Need, Mr Sandman, Bring the Pain

Pretty good, even though not my usual cup of tea. And here I thought the Wu Tang Clan was some sort of traveling kung fu group.

I have been feeling the '90s hip hop, though I didn't finish this whole album

Pretty damn good! Haven't listened to much wu tang ever but the beats are instantly recognisable and make me want to dive much more into the back catalogue. I didn't get the chance to really dive into the lyrics but I will in time!
