Reviews (page 4 of 13)
Always loved this album, has some great hits and feels like a great length. I've even listened to the deluxe album with all of the various performances before. Lean 70s 5/5
Awesome. Songs that were new to me, and plenty of familiar standards
Chill
Favorite Track: Up Around The Bend
This album includes hit after hit. A must have for any music collector. You can hear the versatility in the band from the energy driven Chuck Berry like tracks Travelin' Band and Ooby Dooby. R&B/Gospel worthy tracks such as Long As I Can See The Light and Who'll Stop The Rain. Blues is represented well with Before You Accuse Me. This doesn't even include the now renowned songs in Up Around The Bend, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, and Born On The Bayou.
A laundry list of all-time songs. Do not sleep on this one
John Fogerty is honestly one of my favorite songwriters
One of the best so far
Nearly perfect from start to finish. I don't think there's a song on here I dislike. Usually I trash records from the late 60s early 70s for sounding unoriginal and boring, but CCR is just not one of them. They found their shit and they rocked with it. Favorites were Lookin' Out My Back Door, Up Around The Bend, and I Heard it Through The Grapevine.
Many bands featured on this list can be described as “ahead of their time”. CCR is not one of those bands. They are very much of their time and even that is a stretch. It’s too bad that this album is fantastic. Ramble Tamble is an epic, their version of I Heard It Through The Grapevine features an expansive instrumental section that ebbs and flows, Long As I Can See The Light is an excellent outro. Everything works here.
Lookin' Out My Back Door fue otro sencillo lanzado. Una delicia boogie made in Fogerty. Cierra el lado A Run Through the Jungle, con obvias referencias a la guerra de Vietnam (también en su clásico Who'll Stop the Rain) La cara B abre con el sencillo Up Around the Bend, y sigue con My Baby Left Me, ambas marcas de la casa (rock-blues-sureño). Cierra, tras las citadas Who'll Stop the Rain y 11 minutos de I Heard It Through the Grapevine, con Long as I Can See the Light, más reposada pero muy intensa (saxo a cargo de John). Disco esencial, por el que no pasa el tiempo. Otras obras fundamentales de 1970: The Beatles- Let it be, Paul McCartney-McCartney, George Harrison- All Things Must Pass, John Lennon- John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, LED ZEPPELIN-III, THE KINKS- Lola versus Powerman and the moneygoround, VAN MORRISON - Moondance, THE STOOGES - Fun house, THE DOORS - Morrison hotel, NEIL YOUNG - After the gold rush, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND - Loaded, BADFINGER - No dice, GEORGE HARRISON - All things must pass, FLAMIN' GROOVIES - Flamingo, IKE & TINA TURNER - Come together, ERIC BURDON & WAR - The Black-Man's Burdon, MC5 - Back in the USA, DAVID BOWIE - The man who sold the world, WILLIE DIXON - I am the blues, FLYING BURRITO BROS - Burrito Deluxe, SANTANA- Abraxas, Miles Davis- Bitches brew, Simon and Grafunkel- Bridge over Troubled Water, SIXTO RODRIGUEZ- Cold fact, THE SOFT MACHINE -III, DEREK AND THE DOMINOS- Layla and other assorted love songs, JJ PERREY- Moog Indigo, Carpenters- Close to you, SPIRIT- Twelve dreams or Dr. Sardonicus, DEEP PRUPLE- In rock, THE WHO- Live at Leeds... y debuts de Black Sabbath (además de Paranoid),Elton John, Stephen Stills y Kraftwerk.
Love it
Very good album with some great songs
CCR is one of the very few bands I've loved and listened to my entire life and never felt burnt out on. Yeah it's kinda cheesy and overplayed but it's really good. They released a ton of killer material in only three years and it's staying power is incredible. Bands are still trying to sound like this.
Just awesome. Added to my Tidal Collections, so it must be good!
How many bangers do you need to have on an album before it becomes too much? Clearly Creedence didn’t het the quota memo, because Cosmo’s Factory is all banger. Fuck, this is good. I’ve said before in the R.E.M Document review, it’s one thing to make an album that’s great, it’s an entirely different thing to make an album that’s all good, all the way through, and I don’t think Creedence, with the one notable exception, ever made an album that wasn’t all good. And even Mardi Grad has Someday Never Comes, which I and ever other songwriter would kill to have written
nada como empezar un disco con un tema de 7minutos. todos hits.
los ultimos dos temas valen las 5 estrellas
Credence tapes
Just so much energy and charisma. I would have loved to go to a CCR concert. So many classics on this album: Ooby Dooby, Lookin’ Out My Backdoor, Up Around the Bend, Heard it Through the Grapevine (which I never realized was CCR). I loved the few times where they drastically change the tempo in the middle of a couple of songs.
Ya I was anticipating this was going to be a five just with how strong bayou country was but man did it still deliver. Excellent opening riff and just a great way to open an album. 4 singles that I had heard before nicely spaced throughout the album. I always shoutout lead guitars but I’ll swerve and give some love to the unsung heroes: the bass player. On freakin travelin band, I did have to look it up, but it was a quarter note=168 which is fuckin flyinggg. Talk about slappin da bass. Guy killed it. I also loved on the wiki article where the band describes their genre as “swamp rock” which is just a cool genre title that I had no idea existed but makes perfect sense for them. It’s interesting that in this time in rock so many people were doing the whole psychedelic thing but CCR is just like nah, and really tap in to those bluesy rock vibes circa Elvis, etc. I think My Baby Left Me is a cover of an Elvis song? Don’t quote me but pretty sure. Or maybe I’m just thinking of heartbreak hotel cuz it has similar cadences. This resets the bar as a good classic rock album as I’ve been lulled into a feeling of mediocrity with some of our most recent classic rock albums (like I think I would retroactively drop my rating for the police to a three). Give me more CCR. And yes, the harmonica still fucks.
Not much to say other than this album is fantastic. Only critique is that I don’t need an eleven minute cover of Heard it Through the Grape Vine, but it’s got a good groove so I’ll let it slide.
Fuck dude, this might be it. Starts out with a 7-minute jam to remind you of that CCR sound and then it's followed by hit after hit after hit. It feels like these guys were nailing out songs one day and then said "Hey, maybe we shouldn't make an album." There are so many iconic songs throughout this album. Most of theses songs were probably the background music for some of your favorite movie scenes. The peak of a band with a unique sound that should have been a one-hit wonder doing it again and again and again.
There are so many great songs on here that it is impossible for me not to give it 5 stars. I'm not even the biggest Credence fan, but damn...what an achievement of rock and roll songwriting and performance.
This brought back memories, most of them good ones. Used to listen to this when on a camping holiday in the Lake District, running around pretending we were in Vietnam. We used to take turns "taking point" from watching Tour of Duty and the like. It's a very good album and an easy five stars, even though it's technically not music I would typically enjoy.
Great high energy rock tunes. Singable lyrics with foot stomping rhythms. Distinctive John Fogerty vocals. This is a keeper.
Always good
Another album filled to the brim with hits. Albums like these are the reason I started with this. I knew CCR by name but never sat down to really listen to a full album, but I was blown away by the songwriting, the music and the craft at display. One I will go back to a lot for sure
CCR is a singles band. I have this one best of that my dad bought many years ago and the collection is marvellous. I will always listen to this one, for sentimental reasons alone. Yet if I have to name THE CCR album then it's this one. "Cosmo's Factory" has it all with all the styles the four members mastered over time. Here they really still feel like a band. The highlights are "Run through the jungle", "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" (the best version of that song if you ask me) and the grandiose ending "Long as I can See the Light".
I dig it. Jammy but grounded.
Classic album that might as well be a greatest hits album
I've been really enjoying the CCR albums on this list so far. Sure, they completely rip off Black blues and gospel, but they do it so well. They're one of the few bands in the genre that really seem to put their hearts and souls into it, and I love how they meld the blues and gospel with a bit of psychedelic jamming too. This album follows along the same trajectory as their earlier ones, but it's a bit more polished than Bayou Country. I'd have to listen to the album again to pick out the highlight tracks, but the whole thing flows really well and has a really fun energy to it from the first track through the last one. Their cover of Heard It Through the Grapevine is very vibey and never really gets old despite its lengthy jam session. It's a little hard not to laugh at Fogerty's ridiculous affected accent at times ("I hoid it through the grapevine" — what even is that, NYC bayou?), but that's the only negative I can find with this album. 5/5
CCR is my shit. Drown me in this sound, bury me with it. This album is the balls
Huge hits, extended jams, an 11 minute Grapevine...this album has it all. Expanding beyond swamp rock and rockabilly into soul, country, and rhythm and blues, it's honestly hard to fault.
Loved the album. Jams and covers actually made them come across as a more mature band. Great stuff!
Amazing how much music they managed to put in this album. Every single song on here is great and memorable, and somehow they managed to fit 2 of their longest songs with jams in there on it as well.
It's hard to find any fault with this album, it's iconic for a reason. Favorite track on this listen: "Who'll Stop the Rain."
What I have always found remarkable about this album is there are 6-7 songs on this album that were either "hits" or can be heard on the radio frequently today, yet 3 of the first 4 songs are a 7-minute psychedelic re-write of "Commotion," an old blues song and song that was a hit back in the 1950's. They didn't even bother to start the album off with the strongest songs. Great album. This is CCR's best album and the non-hits are very strong as well. Even the covers which tend to make me feel "meh" on other CCR albums are really strong here. I hope this isn't controversial, but this version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is very good.
It's funny I've been listening to CCR my whole life but I've never listened to this album as a concept. I think we had the Chronicle greatest hits cd in the minivan growing up so we'd just listen to that, but this album has so many of the all time classics they're kinda indistinguishable. Anyways, CCR rules.
Exactly for me. These are a fine fine selection of songs. Some are so simple yet tailored to absolute perfection and Fogerty’s delivery and very southern sound of the band make it so refreshing. Everything here works for me.
So many classics on one album. Loved the whole thing
9/10. Great vibes and some classics in the mix. I wouldn't say there is anything "wow!" about it, which is why I went with a 9, but enjoyed the entire thing. Typically take points off for covers, but they made 'Heard it Through the Grapevine' their own with the guitar solos.
Great to hear some rock classics again, along with some new songs that I enjoyed just as much
Loved it.
An all time great album. Six or seven singles everyone has heard, regardless if they're fans or not. CCR has a gritty, live sound that it enjoyable without being bad or annoying. I have been a Creedence fan since a teenager and will continue to be.
Fahhhh… Far out, man. Far fuckin’ out!!
What a great opener. At first I was not super into it, but then after the switch up I was hooked. Ok, so Ooby Dooby isn't a very good song, but it is short. But besides that this album is stacked with hits.
Classique. Tellement classique que cet album sonne comme un best of. Les tubes s'enchainent...et ne se ressemblent pas, ou parfois si. C'est toujours un plaisir d'écouter CCR !
Not much gets a 5 from me on here, but I enjoy me some CCR. I've got their greatest hits album, and listening to this felt like simply a subset of that. Good stuff. It's particularly impressive given how old this album is and how well it holds up. Also: love the album cover. What a bunch of dorks. 4.8
Although the band would acrimoniously later break up just two years after this record released — hilariously and unbelievably enough, with John Fogerty’s erstwhile bandmates later suing him for writing songs that sounded too much like CCR, the band he fronted and was primary songwriter for — this remains a classic document of a band at the top of their game. John’s vocal howl, a tight rhythm section, judicious cover choices, an unmistakably powerful guitar tone, and timeless songwriting is worth listening to over and over, and I surely have.
CCR in the middle of their white-hot four year run. Classic rock'n'roll paying undisguised homage to its blues and rockabilly roots. Lookin' Out My Back Door, Travelin' Band, Up Around The Bend, Run Through The Jungle, Who'll Stop The Rain are all great original tracks along with fantastic covers of Grapevine, My Baby Left Me and Before You Accuse Me.
perfect classic rock
Cosmo's Factory is the fifth studio album from Creedence Clearwater revival, and their most commercially successful. The album made international stars of the band, and includes tracks that show the range of influences that contributed to the band's success. CCR's music sounds of rockabilly, R&B, and Country, with a Southern, "swampy" under current, see "Born on the Bayou." This album captures the band's impressive range, with the rockabilly-like "Baby Left Me," the Bakersfield-country ballad "Looking out My Back Door," and the soulful cover of "Heard it Through the Grapevine." This is the band at the height of their recording career, and this album is filled with songs that show why this band was so very successful.
Another album, another handful of sleepers and surprises I was not aware of. This album has several staples of CCR’s playlist of hits, but the songs that stuck out to me were “Ramble Tamble” - I had no idea this song even existed, the gradual ramp up/ramp downs in tempo amplify this awesome blues jam. Then, “Oobe doobie” is a great tribute and nod to their American blues influences . “As long as I can see the light” is a great original blues tune that features John Fogerty on Sax (I had no idea the Sax was an instrument in his wheelhouse). And then the 11 minute “Heard it though the grapevine”. I guess like some others I am a little burnt out on the lyrics of this Motown classic, but the instrumentation on this long cut is amazing, particularly the high hat, cymbal crashes and tom rolls in the middle. Throw in a little cow bell and you have a jam.
I always forget just how many hit songs CCR had. And then this album pops up only to remind me more. A band who truly bucked the system at the time and found their own sound. Amazing the amount of good songs for such a short lived time together.
This album is STACKED. Credit to CCR for being one of those bands that truly developed and mastered their own unique sound, too. Simple five for me here
Very much enjoyed this. Fogerty‘s voice is next level and there are some absolute jams on this. Long as I can see the light is one of my all time faves.
Pretty much a greatest his album of originals and covers. Great album to pull heading into the weekend. 4.75/5
Five stars.
This massive attack of classic rock hits is still timeless. very few bands could hope to accomplish the number of hits that CCR churns out here. Heck, very few have. 5/5
What a breath of fresh air from the crap that has been on this list. This album sound is a group of people who are capable of playing instruments and singing in a way that is pleasant to listen to.
full of great blues/rock/country songs, John Fogerty has such a distinctive voice
Oh man, I guess if a singles band creates enough epochal singles they get to be an album band. Unbelievably good. Shame their live act and comradery didnt match the quality of the songs.
Soulful US country folk rock that just rolls along so well with great instrumentals and vocals that just fit the music so well. I can't really think of any criticisms.
Solid album. More uptempo than I was expecting - which is cracking. Who'll Stop The Rain is my favourite from the album. I think I undermarked the previous CCR album, which is slightly better than this.
Perfect classic album-every song!
Classic. 5
Wow. You'd think this was a "greatest hits album" and not an original release!
It starts a little slow, but it is a nearly perfect side two. This version of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” is a lasting masterpiece. Rounding up.
Stone Cold Classic! From originals to covers, it’s a 5.
This is the only Creedence album I've ever owned. Classic track after classic track. An easy 5 stars for me.
Um disco incrível com uma versão impecável de "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" além de outros clássicos como "Long as I can see the light".
Day159 - take out that goofy ooby dooby song and this is an album worthy of top 100 or better all time
Genauso muss sie sein, die perfekte Musik! Spitze!
Un clasicazo perfecto
Great band, great sound.
The Dude: Do you find them much, these, stolen cars? Younger Cop: Sometimes. Wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck though. Older Cop: Or the Creedence.
Peak CCR, so many hits off this album. Love it
CCR kunne sagtens være det band, der får 5/5 af mig hver gang de dukker op, så længe Mardi Gras ikke er med. John Fogerty er for vild. Simpelthen umuligt at give mindre end 5 til et album, der slutter på Long As I Can See the Light Lookin' Out My Back Door -> Run Through the Jungle -> Up Around the Bend back to back to back 🤌🤌🤌 Man skulle ikke tro, at et Marvin Gaye cover ville fungere, men det gør det
Peak CCR 5/5
Really excellent album, thoroughly enjoyable. I think this becomes an acquired taste with age because I was never into listening to them when I was younger.
There's a reason CCR is still known today, decades after their albums first were released, and there's a reason that they are on this list. Because they are fucking awesome. Don't @ me.
"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" might have just changed my life.
I’m a little biased when it comes to CCR because they’ve always been one of my all time favorite bands!! This album is an absolute Jam Session!!!
They mastered the swamp sound so well, I for one didn’t know it was a thing but when I first heard CCR as a kid I said to myself “sounds swampy”. It was quite a bit later that I discovered they were from Cali and kind of felt betrayed but I got over it because the songs are too good.
I don't think there's any question that Cosmo's Factory is the best CCR album. It's amazing what this band did in such a short amount of time. This was the third LP that CCR released in less than a year. And they're all phenomenal. But Cosmo's Factory has hit after hit after hit. Travelin' Band, Lookin' out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, Long as I Can See the Light, and their excellent cover of I Heard It Through the Grapevine are still staples of classic rock and oldies radio. This is an absolute rock gem.
Damn, as someone not actively listening to Creedence, I knew about 75% of the songs on this album and all of them were good... I do not love the sound, but the vocals and the songwriting, damn, it is good. Definitely impactful record.
Never heard the album before. So here was CCR's plan: Make an album of various forms of roots- and blues-rock Choose 4 great songs and do solid cover versions of them. Maybe one of them will become a famous version... Write 7 original songs. Release 6 of them as "Double-A-Sides". See them become incredibly successful. Don't worry about the album cover. It can be really stupid, and it won't matter. End up with a classic album. Why don't more bands take this approach?
I can't believe this came up considering I mentioned that I'm a CCR fan two reviews ago on here. I had a huge CCR phase in highschool, but I mostly listened to their hits. Hearing some deeper cuts on here gave me a greater appreciation of John Fogerty’s voice and some of the guitar tones they were playing with. The lyrics are simple, but effective and not a moment on here drags. Cosmos’s Factory was CCR at their strongest before their breakup 2 years later.
YEAHHHHH CCR
Great fucking album that shows why CCR is so well appreciated. Some slight dips in quality on this album, but it always has a banger the next track that picks everything back up.
Enjoyed this one and Fogerty has such a cool voice. Favorites were looking out my back door and long as I can see the light. I like the muddy, sludgey feel on grapevine I didn’t remember it having a long guitar solo jam.
So many legendary songs! Love the sloshy hi hats on long as I can see the light. Runnin thru the jungle came on as I was cruising through Times Square at night which was pretty vibey. I like the remake take of travelling band, super raw.
Really good. Especially for the garbage we have to listen to
4.5
😍🙌🏽
Sometimes I just really miss smoking weed.
Every song is a classic, what an album!
Simply fantastic
Every song a classic. Full soulful performances. Clear and clean sounds make it al memorable.
Thoughts before listening: I love CCR. Country influenced rock that came out long before alt-country was ever a thing. I feel like these guys are somewhat overlooked amongst 60s bands despite their massive and enduring hits. I don't know what all is on this album, but I'm sure I'll know most of the songs. Review: Yeah this is great. CCR just put out so many great songs that have stood the test of time, and many of them are on this album. This starts out with "Ramble Tamble", an all-time great deep cut, before htting you with "Travelin' Band", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Run Through the Jungle", "Up Around the Bend", "Who'll Stop the Rain", "I Heard it Through the Grapevine", and "Long as I Can See the Light" all of which are staples that I have listened to throughout my life thanks to classic rock radio. This is easily a 5-star album.
Great album and so many classic songs for a short lived band.
This is really brilliant, really amazing country/blues/rock mix. Unique vocals too.
Wow. Travelin’ Band Lookin’ Out My Back Door Up Around the Bend Who’ll Stop the Rain I Heard it Through the Grapevine I honestly did not know these were all from the same album. I’m obviously not a huge CCR fan. What an album! Blues, Rockabilly, and maybe some folk rock? Really good stuff. Easily a 5, no real doubt here.
CCR! Sound of the 70s! Top shelf 5/5
The rythm and the voices are great!
Great songs...music is very easy listening and has wonderful rhythm and blues!! Always a good choice... especially for karaoke!
Fantastic album. Great memories of this one back in the early 1970s
One of the all time great sitting on your porch, drinking beer albums. Which just happens to be my favorite thing to do.
Full of great songs, a little bit inconsistent
**Lyrics:** The lyrics of "Cosmo's Factory" reflect a blend of introspection, storytelling, and social commentary, characteristic of John Fogerty's songwriting prowess. Tracks like "Ramble Tamble" and "Run Through the Jungle" tackle themes of societal unrest and paranoia, drawing parallels to the tumultuous political climate of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Fogerty's evocative storytelling shines through in songs like "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and "Who'll Stop the Rain," which paint vivid imagery of everyday life and existential ponderings. However, some critics argue that the album's lyrical depth is overshadowed by its musical brilliance, with a few tracks leaning towards simplistic or repetitive themes. **Music:** Musically, "Cosmo's Factory" is a tour de force, showcasing CCR's proficiency in crafting infectious hooks, gritty guitar riffs, and irresistible rhythms. From the swampy blues-rock of "Run Through the Jungle" to the energetic boogie of "Travelin' Band," each track brims with raw energy and undeniable groove. The band's tight instrumentation, anchored by Fogerty's distinctive vocals and Doug Clifford's powerful drumming, creates a sonic landscape that is both timeless and immediately recognizable. Moreover, the album's diverse range of influences, including rockabilly, folk, and R&B, adds depth and richness to its sound, ensuring that each listen reveals new layers of musical nuance. **Production:** The production quality of "Cosmo's Factory" is exemplary, thanks in large part to John Fogerty's meticulous attention to detail. Recorded at the band's own Cosmo's Factory studio, the album benefits from a warm, organic sound that perfectly complements its rootsy aesthetic. Fogerty's innovative use of studio techniques, such as tape manipulation and multi-tracking, adds texture and depth to the music, elevating it beyond mere rock 'n' roll clichés. However, some critics argue that the album's production, while polished, lacks the experimental edge of contemporaneous works by artists like The Beatles or Pink Floyd, potentially limiting its artistic scope. **Themes:** Thematically, "Cosmo's Factory" explores a variety of topics, ranging from personal introspection to broader social commentary. Songs like "Long As I Can See the Light" and "Up Around the Bend" delve into themes of longing and redemption, offering poignant reflections on the human condition. Meanwhile, tracks like "Run Through the Jungle" and "Who'll Stop the Rain" grapple with the uncertainties of the Vietnam War era, serving as powerful reminders of the band's social conscience. Yet, amidst these weighty themes, the album also finds moments of joy and celebration, as evidenced by the infectious exuberance of tracks like "Travelin' Band" and "Lookin' Out My Back Door." **Influence:** The influence of "Cosmo's Factory" on subsequent generations of musicians cannot be overstated. Its seamless blend of rock, blues, and country paved the way for the rise of roots-oriented rock acts in the 1970s and beyond. Artists as diverse as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and The Black Keys have cited CCR as a primary influence on their own music, attesting to the album's enduring relevance and impact. Moreover, its timeless melodies and universal themes continue to resonate with listeners of all ages, ensuring its place in the pantheon of classic rock albums. **Pros:** 1. Infectious melodies and irresistible grooves 2. Meticulously crafted production and instrumentation 3. Thought-provoking lyrics with a blend of personal and social themes 4. Diverse range of musical influences, showcasing the band's versatility 5. Lasting influence on subsequent generations of musicians **Cons:** 1. Occasional lyrical simplicity or repetition 2. Lack of experimentalism compared to contemporaneous works 3. Some tracks may feel less memorable or impactful compared to others 4. Limited thematic exploration beyond personal introspection and social commentary 5. Relatively short runtime, leaving listeners craving for more **Conclusion:** In conclusion, "Cosmo's Factory" stands as a towering achievement in Creedence Clearwater Revival's illustrious career, showcasing the band at the height of their creative powers. With its infectious melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, and timeless appeal, the album continues to captivate audiences over five decades since its initial release. While not without its flaws, "Cosmo's Factory" remains a testament to the enduring legacy of one of rock 'n' roll's most iconic acts.
I like oldschool stuff
Banger after banger. Perfect for driving on a warm sunny day. After an Elvis album that was essentially a shitty covers album, hearing an actually interesting take on an existing song was refreshing. I understand why you'd prefer Marvin Gaye, but I love the jam on "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" here.
What kind of music do you like? THIS! Amazing! 5/5
ramble tamble alone makes this a five star
Creedence is interesting. They are southern rock (which I don't really care for) mixed with strong Mississippi blues. It works for them, and I get why they'd be a strong political voice of the time. Great stuff.
makes you want to drum to the beat on the headliner of your car
Great album.
BluesRock at its best
The very definition of a classic
Great album. So many classic hits, all sounded different but distinctly CCR
Maybe it’s because I’m now a dad but I’ve gained a much deeper appreciation of CCR. Part of it is as a kid, one of the first records I listened to over and over was Willie and the Poor Boys, which my sister and I were allowed to play on our Fisher Price record player. But this band smokes man! Literally probably? I don’t know, I’ve had a couple of beers.
For some reason, I didn’t want to give this a five. Maybe because CCR is played out and I knew all the big songs on here already? And because there were songs on here I wasn’t as familiar with and I thought therefore they must not be very good? Anyway. Dang. This is a five that caught me by surprise. The five star songs are five star songs. The others are also very good. The tones and the sound of this was fantastic and JF’s vocals are top notch.
Gotta Love CCR
I'm already a big CCR fan so this was candy. But what sticks out is how chock full of hits this one record was among their whole discography. So good! 5/5
This album is simply phenomenal. My personal favorite CCR album.
I was always familiar with CCR growing up, but had never listened to a full album of theirs before starting this project. This is the 2nd CCR album I have generated and both have been fantastic. CCR stock is quickly rising in my rotation.
Not a bad song on the album
I'm not sure CCR ever put out a bad album. They are just too good at playing those instruments. And John Fogerty has such a distinct voice; it's captivating. I'm not sure anyone ever matched CCR's style - that swampy bayou sound. It is on full display here, especially in their odes to prior versions of songs like Before You Accuse Me and I Heard it Through the Grapevine. Unlike prior CCR albums they decide to jam like on the former Marvin Gaye remake and Ramble Tamble. I can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. They showed even moreso they can play, but at times I just wanted them to move on. Still, there are so many massive hits here which is all these guys did, produce big catchy hits. Travelin Band (throwback rock and roll), Lookin Out My Back Door (rockabilly jangly greatness), Run Through the Jungle (grungy), Up Around the Bend (that opening riff! goosebumps), Who'll Stop the Rain and Long As I Can See the Light (both classic ballads). It's not quite perfect but it gets close and this is probably their finest work. Feels like time to give 'em a 5.
Herrlich, die Hippies...
Classic
I've always liked these guys. Very comfy-cosy sound.
LOVE CCR. This album has some of their best recordings. Always fun to listen to.
All the best from CCR
Yes all day
I'm looking out my back door and I say: Hell yeah.
Grapevine nets this a five. Hallelujah.
Still CCR managed to make every song good. I have no idea how.
It’s just a great album. Bangers and classic CCR.
Maybe it's merely familiarity that makes me love every song. But I love every song.
Didn't realize the number of huge hits on this album. Recorded surprisingly well for 1970.
This was fantastic! I've always liked songs I've heard from CCR, but never really listened to any of their albums. This was great all the way through. Definitely have to listen to this more. 5/5
WOW. this album is IT. ccr is at their finest here. cosmo's factory has ccr jumping from blues, to rockabilly, a spot of jazz, swamp rock, back to blues rock, and oh my gosh i'm obsessed. there was no song that was boring or out of place. this album was seamless. there were no low points. i had a great time listening to songs i hadn't heard in years, or cover songs, or even new songs. ccr's "i heard it through the grapevine" is now the definitive version to me (though marvin gaye's soulful rendition is still legendary). they added a great, fun jam session to a song that's already brilliant. the song became an 11 minute masterpiece!
As I began this album and hit the first couple of songs, I was questioning if I would like it quite as much as the other Creedence albums on this project (I didn't look ahead at this album's tracklist). By track 3, things picked up, and it was almost consistently a barrage of Creedence hit after Creedence hit. "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Run Through the Jungle", "Up Around the Bend", and "Who'll Stop the Rain" are ALL found on this album, among other hits. So not only was this album a great listen after all, it may very well have the largest concentration of CCR hits of any of the band's albums! CCR finds ways to dabble and explore new sounds on this album, but they do so all while staying true to their swamp rock roots that earned them their fame, and I certainly can appreciate that. Creedence Clearwater Revival is an American institution that stands as a very firm example of music that ran against the typical psychedelic and acid sounds of the 60s. And this album is probably their magnum opus in that movement. This is so close to a 5 at this point that splitting hairs wouldn't even matter. This is just a stellar album. What a way to go out with my last CCR album on this project!
Another classic I've known most of my life. Probably my favorite CCR album. Chock full of hits you'd have to be living under a rock not to recognize. Travelin' Band songs like Fogerty channeling Little Richard. Even the non-hits on this one will get you moving. Not a bad track on this one.
It's wild how many great albums Creedence put out in just 4 years
Fabulous
Great Album!!!
Best of the Southern rock genre
What a great album! John Fogerty's voice is the eighth wonder of the world.
An easy 5.
One of the best!!!
The cover of I Heard It Through the Grapevine deserves 5 stars on its own
fuckin awesome
What a high watermark for blues rock and southern rock. The style doesn't get much better than as CCR slung it on this album.
I mean. C'mon. 5/5
So many fantastic songs on this album. Can be listened to over and over and still be as enjoyable as the first time.
CCR don't miss. I've yet to hear a song of theirs I don't like. Listening to this just puts you in a good mood. Stand-out: Lookin' Out My Back Door
WHAT! This entire album is fire. Skills all over the place.
Winner Winner. What a great album. John Fogerty is a genius. The rock is swampy and awesome.
Perfect mix of chooglin’ and ramble tamblin’
Excellent.
The older that I get, the more convinced I become that CCR is the greatest rock 'n roll band of all time. This album plays like a greatest hits and never lets up. Fucking mint.
4.5 - Dad rock I can get behind! Honestly have always liked CCR but never listened to a whole album, but was surprised how much more it made me like them
Great
One of the best places to start just about anything.
This one brought some good memories.
CCR solid gold
Love to get an album where every song is great.
Yes please! Make me listen to more of this! What a band, and what a great album with so many familiar and wonderful songs. I liked it so much, I had to go through the other albums, and had myself a CCR day!
Favorites: Travelin Band, Lookin Out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, Who’ll Stop the Rain, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Long As I Can See the Light. Awesome!
Great, great later period CCR album. Ramble Tamble is the one surprisingly not on Chronicle; it feels like a greatest hit. Really, all CCR tunes do. "I heard it through the Grapevine is the definitive version for me, with Marvin's original a close second. A great 11 minute jam that feels tightly rehearsed. Seven of these tunes made the first greatest hits compilation!
This album is so good. First two songs are a bit weaker, but once "Travelin' Band" starts, this album hits and doesn't stop. The 11 minute "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" jam is absolutely amazing. Best of CCR, hands down. Also, I'll always have a soft spot for this record because "Lookin' Out My Back Door" was a song in a piano book my mom had, and I taught myself how to play by ear because I knew that song.
Banger
Jäklar vilket klassiskt album. Så mycket låtar man kan, från original eller covers. Hamnade direkt på Vinylskivor jag vill ha.
One of the greatest bands ever! Love the rasping, soulful sound of the vocals.
Great album! Lots of amazing songs and all are very enjoyable weather background music or jamming
A greatest hits album without actually is not a greatest hits album. CCR broke the mold and set themselves apart from both bands with this classic
Hall of Fame. Not quite a greatest hits but not far off.
Perfect and succinct boogie music.
Love some CCR
Lookin' Out My Backdoor is a masterpiece. There's just so few tracks on this album that aren't fantastic. Hard 4 to soft 5.
I think if you have to pick one album to give someone that encapsulates the Bayou Rock sound, it is this one. I was weirded out hearing "Ooby Dooby" and realizing that it seems like a chord change for chord change cover of Tutti Fruitti by Little Richard, and then further realizing that "My Baby Left Me" is a knockoff of the chords of Elvis Presley's "That's Alright". But who can see any film about Vietnam and not hear "Run Through the Jungle" in their heads? And who hasn't heard "Travelin Band", "Lookin' Out My Back Door", "Up Around the Bend", and "Who'll Stop the Rain"? I guess because I grew with John Fogerty's solo career in the 80s it just felt like CCR and John Fogerty had been around forever, so I was shocked that CCR spawned all of this amazing music in just 3 years. Mind blown.
Stunningly good lp! Knew going in this would be towards the top of my experience so far, added every tune except obviously Ooby dooby to our 1001 experience playlist
Great album. But play the whole album please!
This album absolutely kicks ass. I've only heard their big songs before, but there are some truly incredible tunes and jam tracks in here. This is the kind of music that makes me want to grab my guitar or drum set and jam out. Maybe we bring jam bands back???
This was wildly assigned to me the day after I saw a CCR tribute band. I think it helped the appreciation of the album having just seen a bunch of middle aged men try their best to impersonate something 50 years after it had been invented here (not the style of music, god no, just these specific songs).
back to front, this album is classic, classic, classic. not a bad track on this thing. great sound, great instrumentation, great songwriting/song choice, and sequencing. one of my favorite albums of all time!!!
lookin out my back door should be studied for it’s narcotic effect
With Cosmo's Factory, you feel the Bayou from the very first second. This album is full of hooks, harmonies, and personality. Yes, you could clean the track list and remove songs that sound alike, but the overall feeling is already there. If you were to embark on your CCR journey, I think this is a great point of start.
10/10
I thought I knew this band but this album completely blew me away.
I mean, what can be said... Song after song of just bluesy, swamp rock and roll. Southern, hints of country, toe-tapping goodness. Forgerty and the boys just knocked it out of the park. Opening with a 7 minute jam session, the groovy folk "Travelin Band", epic "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and so much more to love. American rock and roll at its finest!
Its CCR man.
A lovely classic rocker. Always have and always will love this record.
Love it!
This is good
Hit after hit. Great album!
Hell yeah gnarly blues rock. Just hits right.
OOBY DOOBY BABYYYYY
Mix of all sorts of genres with lots of very good covers in there.
There aren't many bands that had such a successful run over a two year period than Creedence Clearwater Revival, from 1969-1970. Starting with their second album, Bayou Country to Pendulum in late 1970, the band released 5 albums and several hit singles during this period. At least three of them are essential listens and Cosmo's Factory is probably the best of them. Six of the eleven tracks on Cosmo's were released as singles and though this wasn't a "greatest hits" record is sure seemed like it. The album is solid (with little or no filler), and the sound is diverse with many styles and genres. It highlighted the band's, most notably, John Fogerty, songwriting and musicianship. A classic record!
Just great.
Easily the best CCR album there is.
CCR helped popularize a genre called “swamp rock” which is a mix of rockabilly, blues, and soul. this album is chock full of classics, a solid album top to bottom. fun fact: the song “run through the jungle” is not about the vietnam war as many believe, but according to a 2016 interview with john fogerty (thank you wikipedia), it is about the proliferation of guns in america. proving once again that fogerty is a lefty from way back and a man ahead of his time. highlights: “travelin’ band”, “lookin’ out my back door”, “run through the jungle”, “who’ll stop the rain”.
Yeah, this album is a whole ass jam.
Great, great fucking album. One of the 70’s best.
It doesn't get better than CCR, period. All bangers.
Such an incredible album - I really enjoyed listening to this one! I had no idea they had so many hits that come from this single album. Another part of my music taste profile I thank my Dad for - I love CCR! This album feels like the soundtrack to my childhood - high sing-a-long value. Fogerty's voice is so good and the musicianship is fantastic - you could argue that I'm just being nostalgic, but I think the mix of swampy rock and blues is amazing! One small criticism is the drums are a little basic at times? Hard to choose only one fave track from this, but this CCR cover of I Heard it through the grapevine has been a longtime fave.
Peak Creedence Clearwater Revival, the absolute height of their collective powers. Simply put, it's one of the best albums ever commited to tape anywhere at any time. So good that most of it was released as double A side singles, imagine "Up Around The Bend" and "Run Through The Jungle" being paired together. Their definitive compilation album, "Chronicle" has SEVEN songs off this, 7 out of 20... Impossible to hate
Fantastic!!
Absolutely fantastic
Great stuff.
Even the songs that aren't one of their "big hits" are all exceptional. Great album.
Practically a "best of". Even the songs I have not heard previously are pretty damn good.
CCR is always a win. This album was a great rock sound.
A stunningly good album by Creedence Clearwater Revival, easily the band's most creative and vital work. Some of CCR's most famous songs appear here, as well as some stellar deep tracks. This is an era defining work that sounds as fresh as the day it was made. Earthy blues and country infused songs with a great relaxed energy and exceptional musicianship. Most of the songs are executed with brilliant economy, the majority clocking in well under 3 minutes. I don’t even mind the insane jamminess of the 11+ minute "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." Just about the most satisfying 42 minutes you can spend listening to music. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Who'll Stop the Rain, Ramble Tamble, Lookin' out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around the Bend, Travelin' Band, I Heard It Through the Grapevine,Long as I Can See the Light, My Baby Left Me, Before You Accuse Me, Ooby Dooby
Wow, what an album! If you are even a passing CCR fan, this one blows you away. Massive song after massive song after massive song. An absolute must-have album. Great fun to listen to, built the way albums used to be built - meant to put on side one, track one and just listen one after another.
Really special album. Fogerty's voice is obviously the most identifiable part of CCR, but man those basslines are always unbelievable. It's the tightness of the instrumentals that really give the southern feel to their music. Favorite track: Travelin' Band
Great band... I Love the rhythm, and so much instrumental and How I can feel the cohesive bond they have together... never would have known then as blues ! Wow, great sound - plus all the goodies :D
This one has more well-known hits: like Run Through The Jungle and Up Around The Bend. Good times all around!
It's a 5 for me
Crazy classics and a heavy blues album. This album came out in 1970, but feels like a throwback to 1950's Rhythm and Blues. Good tracks: Travelin Band, Up Around the Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, Heard it Through the Grapevine, Long as I Can See The Light
When over half the songs are released as singles you know it's going to be a good album. Love their sound
Massive collection of absolute bangers by one of the greats. Love this album, always going to be a 5
Loved this so much. Mainly only listened to ccr greatest hits or one cut at a time. This shows the importance of album production
Another good album from CCR. Lots of hits too.
Ccr
dope af
one of my all time favorites
I wasn't going to even bother listening to this old man music if it weren't for my buddies rating it... So here goes. I can almost hear and old moustached American man yell "creedance" from afar... this is Vietnam War era stuff, and time of America's potential awakening, well sort of. A certain mood of time times is here alright - fully plagiarised or hommage, you choose. they certainly distilled and repackaged what was on, and those a mainstreaming of the interesting music developments of the time - swamp, blues, with added swagger - I'm not gonna judge . its good ho'down stuff. and (John) Fogerty has a voice on him, evoking a real truckstop blues sound from behind the chicken wire at times. ... makes you want to hurl an empty bottle with joy, doesnt it? if I had big garden speakers facing some swamp, this would echo well off my everglades while I'm brunching and crunching down on some fried chicken. woop. I had a lot of fun listening to this. Anyone mind if I use the word "propulsive" again?
Those were the days - when you could release an album where 6 of the 11 tracks had already been issued as 3 double A/sided singles that all were Top-4 hits in the U.S. And all ball-tearers. No duds here. And the gall to do an 11-minute version of a Motown classic & totally nail it. They were at their peak. On the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, I heard for the first time their complete set, via some American radio station. They killed it. Faves? Maybe Run Through The Jungle? Maybe Long As I Can See The Light? Maybe Grapevine? A great record.
A classic and for me one of the best country rock records. Even the weaker tracks are still good.
I feel like the nine Brit pop albums before this might have artificially boosted the score, but I'm going with it.
COSMO'S FACTORY, LET'S GOOOO. 5/5 No question. So many bangers on this joint. Ramble Tamble is a progressive favorite of mine. Goated album. I own this cunt on vinyl.
Full of classics, this is American rock at its finest.
Full of classic Creedence songs
Shoot, most of the songs on the first greatest hits album are on this album. Really lovely
Lean, clean, and bluesy. Ramble Tamble is a fun kick-off to the album. Lookin' Out My Back Door, Run Through the Jungle, Up Around The Bend, Who'll Stop the Rain, and I Heard it Through the Grapevine are all songs that I grew up with and have known forever. It's also just a great bouquet of songs. When Google Play Music (rip) was still a thing, Who'll Stop the Rain was my all-time most played song. There's a reason that when we got one of the previous albums (MC5?) I said that I'd have preferred especially CCR. This album is great.
Love it Great start
The best album I've heard since Trout Mask Replica
stone cold classic
Absolutely wonderful classic rock- 5 out of 5
Rock. Blues
A cornerstone of southern rock. Just very catchy and Fogerty's voice fits perfectly.
From the very first notes of Ramble Tamble I was like “yes! Omg yesss!” Great first impression. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did, it’s not my usual style at all but this album was a banger.
This album was played off and on all through high school. Now listening to it 20 years later with an expanded taste for music, it still holds up. This is still one of my top albums of all time. The blues, jam band, creole flavors mix amazing. The songs paint wonderful pictures and invoke great emotions. But also, California Raisins song (some of yall may be to young to remember)
Favorite songs: Heard it Through the Grapevine; Up Around the Bend; Who'll Stop the Rain Some really great CCR tracks, defining them as a top notch rock band.
Amazing album, so many classics on it.
Best CCR IMO. Runnin through the jungle is classic
lot of fun tempo changes. song placement on the album is really satisfying, smooth ride. did old dude get dumped twice, or once so bad it needed two tracks? love the jam sesh at the end of Grapevine.
Great album
Goat material
This was a joy to listen to. I knew I would enjoy it as I've always loved CCR, but I didn't even look at the track list and didn't realize this record had like 6 songs on pretty much every single CCR Greatest Hit Compilation CD ever made. Great album from start to finish.
An insane number of bangers and bops. Nice mix of genres within rock music too.
Pretty much a flawless album from a all-time great rock band at their peak.
Great album. One that I own. Full of great songs, best of all is “Long As I Can See The Light”. IMO, the best CCR song. Soulful, driving, great organ solo. Great Sunday morning song.
I had never heard this album before but did know almost every song on it as a hit single which to me speaks volumes about just how good this album is.
Really good!
Solid listen the whole way through. First half has more standouts and grooves.
Never knew all of these amazing songs were on one album.
Ok
Wonderful
goated
Toujours sur la coche, c’est le premier album que j’avais écouté d’eux back in 2020, c’est un de mes band préféré depuis
Excellent album. Nice swampy-bluesy sound. I recognized many of the songs as radio hits, and the ones which were new to me were also fantastic.
Blues rock dominates a lot of classic rock but Creedence Clearwater Revival were one of the best to ever do it. These songs immediately leap out of the speakers with style and color and attitude and joy. It’s the sound of talented musicians loving what they’re doing. And wow John Fogerty is an awesome lead singer. He puts so much raw feeling into his singing. A lot of classic songs on this album. And the less famous album cuts rock just as hard and keep the energy going. Fantastic album. What a silly album cover for such a great album! 😂
This is my mom and brother's favorite CCR record (possibly mine too?). It's so good. CCR was really USA's band. There's definitely been other acts that have captured aspects of this country really well- like Bruce Springsteen singing about being a working everyday person, not having a lot of money, falling in love, racing cars... The Beach Boys singing about surfing and spending time on beaches, youth, and ogling girls... Nirvana singing about relationships, isolation, drugs. But to me, CCR is THAT sound that appears in my head when I think of this country. Many great tracks on this record that were staples in my youth: "Lookin' Out My Backdoor" "Run Through The Jungle" "Up Around The Bend" "Who'll Stop The Rain" "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" "Long As I Can See The Light" It's a 5/5 for me and one of my favorite records of all time. Probably between top 15 and top 20. They just did it right.
Ramble Tamble is solid opener. Has some prog rock elements mixed in. "Before you accuse" can only be described as a simple easy to play SRV song. I wouldnt be surprised if they were an inspiration to him. Travelin' Band is a classic. Has that Johnny B Good feel to it. Ooby Dooby makes you want to dance. Who'll stop the rain is a nice change of pace to the epic I heard it through the grapevine. This album is one of their best work.
absolutely unreal album, I continued listening to the artist after the album had finished
Worth it for the 11 minute Grapevine cover alone. Everything else great too. Enjoyable listen.
Locura-
Track 1 is a cool discovery, added it to my 1001 albums favorite trackcs playlist.
The definitive southern rock band.
Turns out I enjoy CCR.
Just another CCR album. Cool as fuck but tinny and grating sounding if you're not in the mood for it lol. Luckily I stopped it and listened to it later when I wanted to and had a great time
One of the classics. Can’t beat the lyrics and classic riffs this album has.
A right belter. Love it. Was a great mix of blues and country. Just when it felt a little too country for me, they swing it right back into classic blues. Beautiful stuff.
This vinyl is on my shelf. It’s a defining piece of work in this genre. It trucks along through. Always driving that rhythm
I could live in Stu Cook's basslines for the rest of my life and be the happiest man on earth. Just top notch instrumentals all around from CCR again. I cannot get enough of, well, most of the tracks on this album, but I Heard It Through the Grapevine is one of those 10 minute epics that do not feel like it at all, like Marquee Moon or Jesus of Suburbia
Somehow I’ve only known CCR singles. Glad to dive into an album. Fantastic all the way through!
- Would you slide your shorts down Mister Lebowski, please? - No, no man, she hit me right here. - I understand. Could you slide your shorts down please?
If you'd ask me to list my favourite albums, I don't think I'd ever think of Creedance. This album should be on there. It sounds like a "Greatest Hits" album but it is all packed into a single 42 minute album. If I'd list the hits I'd list nearly the entire track listing. It's a fun bluesy rock album. Personal favourites are "Up around The Bend", "Lookin' Out My Back Door" and "Who'll Stop The Rain". There are no real low points, no songs outstay their welcome and the rest is just hits on hits. 5 stars from me.
One of the greatest bands of all time in my opinion!! Every song is awesome. John Fogarty is a legend and I’m so glad he got all the rights to his music back. Listen again: definitely Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song: Run Through The Jungle “The song was rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty's favorite CCR song: "My all-time favorite Creedence tune was 'Run Through the Jungle'. It's like a little movie in itself with all the sound effects. It never changes key, but it holds your interest the whole time. It's like a musician's dream. It never changes key, yet you get the illusion it does."
So many hits and memories!
To knock out four 5-star albums in 18 months and end on this absolute banger is stuff of legend. Packed with hits, music to get fucked on moonshine to.
Surprised by how much I liked this album. So much that I listened to 2 more of their albums.
I've never seen such a stacked second half of an album. Classic!
Gave off really chill vibes. Listened to this album on the island of Kauai. July 21-30 2023 was best vacation ever.
really good ! i’m familiar with the artist and love it !
CCR is some of the best road trip music ever made. People might be surprised to realize that this isn't a greatest hits compilation. Just a stellar album from start to finish. I can't believe the three who aren't John Fogerty threw such fit about not being recognized for John's work. Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.
Great
I wasn’t expecting to give this a 5, but I forgot how rock solid this one one. With the exception of ‘Ooby Dooby’, none of the tracks don’t pull their weight, with songs like ‘Who’ll Stop the Rain’, ‘Lookin’ Out My Back Door’, and the 7-minute jam ‘Ramble Tamble’ (though most people would point to the other long song on this album, ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine’) being some of my favorites. CCR deserve a spot on the list, and, though I know they have two more albums to go, this is a great choice.
Hits after hits.
Rolling in classics. Always hits just right.
This was great, some really excellent songs. Would definitely listen again.
5/5. Just an awesome collection of iconic singles and jams that still sound fresh today. Not a bad song on here, great front to back. Fogerty’a voice is one for the ages and the band’s instrumentation meshes so well.
Enjoy the album every much
I really love CCR!
Sip a COSMO and enjoy the CLEAR WATER
