My sweet lord What is life Out of the blue
It's fine. Too long, too meandering, extremely listenable and beautiful. Listen, I love the Beatles and much of their solo or later works. But I think they all really need to come into a studio with a bunch of songs and then whittle them down to a sub-hour length with the best songs, rather than dragging it out. Every song is good, yeah, but the good songs weigh the album down so that you don't even notice the great ones.
A pretty self indulgent album. Lotsa peaks and valleys. There's a lot here I love, and even more I feel ambivalent about.
Some good songs but I wouldn’t listen to the whole album.
3/5 - the 70’s whine folk rock never did it for me.
Some really nice stuff on here, but does not need to be two hours long!
This has always been a weird album. A strong disc one, a not so strong disc 2, and then the weird 3rd disc of jam sessions that are actually kinda ok, and I dislike Eric Clapton The guy shows promise, though.
Took me 7.75 actual hours to make it through, but I did it. Meh.
2 hours is just too long
This was a LONG listen! I enjoyed quite a bit of it but found some of the songs needlessly long and a bit too George Harrison. He is an awesome talent, and his songs are ones that I love. I REALLY LOVE! Double albums are a bit much sometimes.
I quite enjoyed the first side, enjoyed it more than the Beatles albums we’ve heard so far, and definitely more than the other solo post-Beatles albums! It was just too long. I think I would have rated this higher if it was less self indulgent
This album was purely ok. Few songs stood out and many were far too preachy, but not bad. 3/5.
My sweet lord What is life Out of the blue
There are very good songs on 'All Things Must Pass', like the title track and of course the absolute classic My Sweet Lord. But it is simply too long to be a 4 or 5 star album, towards the second disc/half, it all felt like too much. 28 songs is really too much.
For the most part, the album didn't keep me engaged. I'm happy I waited until the end with all the great jam sessions during the last five songs. That was fun and a great way to spend the deep cleaning I was doing!
Good and fun
I liked some of the tracks just fine, but the main issue is that the album is far too long – some editing would've made the songs bleed together less.
A lot of good moments, and nothing that I really didn't like, but 2 hours is unforgivably long. Definitely a more mature sound than most of what the Beatles produced, but lacks a bit of the oomph and certainly the catchiness. I think that first side of the first album is top drawer, but it fades after that. A better score than I thought this would get when I saw it was 2 hours long, but it's only a 3.
some cute corny throwbacks in here
The songs that are good are good but my sweet lord is this too long
I struggled to like this more than I thought I would the highlights (what is life, if not for you, all things must pass) are pretty high, the mehs (1/3 of it .. just jams, I dig love) are pretty meh. Overall, it felt more like a compilation than an album.
I always expect to like his solo stuff more than I actually do. There are great songs on here, but all in all it doesn't feel like an album but a bunch of tracks, further evidenced by multiple versions of the same song, and the track list changing with each reissue.
Excepting the couple of hits, this is fairly mediocre. Relies a little too much on a laid-back acoustic folky sound, and George doesn't need the likes of Bob Dylan or Eric Clapton to help him. Not for me to decide, but in my revisionist history George does the following: 1. Instead of Phil Spector, literally anyone else. George's tunes just don't fit and there's no ironic contrast. Just reverb and it brings the wwhole thing to a place it doesn't belong. There's a fine line between clever and stupid. 2. Just get a band, abandon the all-star guest appearance party. 3. Pick the 8 - 10 best songs. OR 4. Finish a thought. A lot of the stuff on this album seems like demos without structure. Take all the ideas, put some together, take some apart, move some around. 5. Sing from your soul, not someone else's. George Harrison seems to get caught in that thing that so many British rockers did around this time and thought they were George Jones or something? Country rock is not all that awesome even when it's done well. 6. Of course, just one album man. Just one. The Beatles were so popular they got to that point where NO ONE gave them any feedback. This album is too long. Maybe flesh out the weaker songs and put them on a later album? The good stuff is really good though. I just wish he pruned out the Americana sounding stuff. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Great guitar, double album is a little much for me though. I enjoy a lot of the songs but could've been trimmed down as an album
Bastante rollo. Ni fu ni fa.
Following up on my /Band On The Run -- Paul McCartney and Wings/ review, I can also conclude through process of elimination that George Harrison was not the reason why The Beatles sucked so much. Let It Down was a 5, replayed that song many many times. Was toeing between a 4 or a 3 for this album but the 2nd half of the double album let me down
Listened to all 2 hours. Forgot all of it except my sweet Lord. B teir.
some real sweet love songs on there ngl but also i was good after a while, this didn't need to be 2h long 🫡
It's a decent album. Some good songs, some I don't really care for much.
Better than most of the solo Beatles project. Still not as good as the sum total. Growing up, he was my least favorite of the four lads, and I wasn’t a fan of his solo work early on. But I’ve warmed some, and besides the obvious monster hit, this album as a whole is pretty good.
First time to completely listen to the whole album. Lots of jam music.
There are some solid songs here - as in, some quality melodies and interesting harmonic touches. Generally, it's well written, well crafted rock music with prominent pop flavours. However... I'm not a huge fan of Harrison's rather weak, lugubrious voice. His slide guitar style isn't quite to my tastes. Phil Spector's soupy, gloopy production is something I don't think I'll ever buy. Personal proclivities aside, what an absolute spoofer Spector was. Nonetheless, this was a low four star or high three star effort - until I got to the Apple Jam section. And suddenly, everything that was wrong headed, misguided, self-satisfied and self-important about this era of album rock comes into focus. Who thought that this was a good idea? I can think of another fruit flavoured jam - Grape Jam, by Moby Grape, that was an utter disaster, a mess from start to finish, and this isn't miles off being that bad either. On the basis that it exists and is part of the album, the final third almost drags this into one star territory. Almost. I'm feeling generous.
Fint men tråkigt, alla låtar var ganska lika. My Sweet lord var bästa låten!!
Väldigt bra album, men jag trodde det skulle vara bättre. Lite för långt med lite för många fillers. Bästa låt: My sweet lord
6/10 Too long. Waaaayyy toooo looonng. Just finished and I can already barely remembered when I started listening. Highlight: Art of Dying
Definitely hits some jam band elements
A good album, I liked My Sweet Lord, Let It Down and Run of the Mill.
Some great gems here but runs a bit long. Seems like he anticipated dying young or just wanted to demonstrate his deeply philosophical side.
This is some of the best work among "Solo efforts" I've heard to date. I still ding it a star for being too long and too much fluff, much like a hip hop album. But there's a solid Beatles record buried in here
Bastante rollo. Ni fu ni fa.
Some of the better instrumental stuff from George
Lovely but simply TOO LONG
Took one listen and I couldn't enjoy this album. Harrison's guitar playing is great, but I just couldn't connect with it. 3/5 because he's a quarter of the Beatles.
Hyvää kevyttä rockia. Paljon parempaa kuin Beatless. Parhaat: What Is Life, Beware Of Darkness, Art Of Dying, Plug Me In.
krishna krishna krishna
After 30 minutes I thought this is good, I’ll give it a high rating, after 2 hrs of the same thing I decided to lower that a point. It was a good album that was waaaaaaaaaaay to long.
It starts off with some good tracks, but it is just so long. And it starts to become much more jam bandy later in the album which is just not my taste. No bad music here, but nothing to bring me back either.
Starts off strong with "My Sweet Lord" and "Wah Wah" inside the first few tracks but then it just gets drawn out, like does track 4's "Isn't It A Pity" need to be 7 minutes long with an album ending-style coda? And then the actual album ends on a series of instrumentals that play like 12 bar blues... It could have been 5 stars, but it just keeps dragging itself down
This album is pretty good, but dang was it long! Has some Harrison songs I know, lots I don't. I'm a sucker for lap steel, so happy to see that used in places, and overall I liked most of the songs on here. I would listen to sections or single songs from this again, but maybe not the whole thing. Still, solid album overall.
Lots of good singles here, but brought down by it's runtime. Especially the instrumental last few songs were unnecessary. 2.5/5
this was fine.
Good
All Things Must Pass is a monumental triple album that showcases his musical evolution beyond The Beatles. Influenced by collaborators like Bob Dylan, The Band, Delaney & Bonnie, and Billy Preston, Harrison effortlessly blends folk, rock, and soul into a cohesive masterpiece. Phil Spector's Wall of Sound production technique enriches every track, creating a lush sonic landscape. The album features overlooked Beatles tracks alongside Harrison's new and brilliant compositions, displaying his songwriting prowess. While its extensive length may be daunting and after a while, a little tiring, All Things Must Pass stands as a testament to Harrison's enduring legacy and his significant contributions to music. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 11 STAND OUT TRACK - What is Life
Much as I like George a lot, 2 hours was a big ask. Especially when a lot of it was just guff. Some really lovely songs, a lot of filler and way too long.
There is a 5-star album on here, but boy oh boy is there too much music. Two albums too much. I've never finished this album. Ever. I've owned it for thirty years. So I'm not sure how to rate this. Three stars seems harsh—again, there's a 5-star album on here—but at the same time, I have to rate this as a whole and boy that last disc is a bore.
Bro put all his rejected Beatles ideas into one mega-album. Tbf it has some nice treats.
This is pretty good but lots of 3s and a few 4s. 3.22
I was so excited to get a vinyl reissue as a birthday gift a few years ago. What wasn't there to be excited about? Well, once I unwrapped it and queued it up and started admiring the box and booklet, I realized that George's Eastern philosophy missed on this one. So much excess, so much ego, so much...everything. Pare this back to 60 minutes or less and it might have been a clear message of the monastic Beatle's real and individual voice. Instead, it's just "all too much."
I have heard the album before on a different occasion — rating a George Harrison album w/o actually listening to it is an insane thing to do. However, I had neither the time nor energy to sit through two full hours today. Therefore, I will be doing a short review on "Cloud Nine" — George Harrison's superior album — instead :] Shoutout to Badfinger, my favourite guest band though! When I eventually finish my project, I will be sure to add "Straight Up" to 1001AlbumsGenerator. ── ࣪˖ ࣪ ⊹ ࣪ ˖ ── To begin, "Cloud Nine" is the eleventh studio album by George Harrison, and undoubtably one of his best. Although most people remember it only for "Got My Mind Set On You", it has a wonderful assortment of tracks. "Just For Today" is melancholy and heartfelt, both "This Is Love" and "Someplace Else" are irresistibly charming and beautiful ("I need you now to be beside me while all my world is so untidy!"), while "When We Were Fab" offers an immersive dive into George Harrison's salad days with The Beatles. The whole album ties together neatly and has a familiar Beatles-esque sound, though there is less energy and more lush sophistication.
molto bello ma fin troppo lungo, ci si perde
George sei il mio Beatle preferito, ma anche meno :(
Oddly charming. Honestly, the B-sides put me over the top into 3-star territory. Nice work, George!
First listen for this album. Was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
Oh George, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Somehow, him looking disheveled in giant rain boots and a brimmed hat, as if he is some sort of mountain man (you see the trees in the back right?), is the exact look I always pictured of him alone. Just sad that he could never come close to his brothers. Ringo too in some ways, but dude was named Ringo Star, he's going to be fine. Ol George wasn't too bad on this album (I actually enjoyed it), and I've even heard that first song before. I'm sorry you weren't as famous as the rest, George, but as you've titled, All Things Must Pass.
It’s certainly a long and beautiful album that’s unfortunately not for me.
Lots of famous folks on this 'Layla' era album. Fun and open music, with interesting themes that others have built on since. Definitely seminal for modern rock music, this album is lazy summer afternoon tunes. Just pack plenty of beer—the music gets more and more self-indulgent as the needle creeps towards the centre. Good job I like self-indulgent blues guitar solos. Pretty good overall.
Very relaxing and soothing. Decent album
It’s too long, but there are some great songs in here.
When I heard the first track, I thought this could be a winner; subtle thumping chords, tasteful Harrison licks over the top, and some lush production from the (now-murderous) Mr Spector... but as the album continued it became staler and staler. There was by no means anything *wrong* with any of the songs on it, but a lot of 'much the same' and no real standouts. I can't think of any songs on here I'd rush to come back to, and so ultimately felt like Beatles-esque background music for me.
Feels like if the Beatles weren't as good, and way too long
The most beloved Beatles solo album, I've been meaning to sit down with this one so I'm glad I got forced to. It's very long, even longer than White, and it lacks the variety of that album. I very much doubt I'd come back to it, but I'm glad I listened, as there were several songs I enjoyed.
Some nice tunes.
George Harrison is a prolific songwriter and this triple album is the proof. As his break-free first solo album following the dissolution of the Beatles, Harrison fully utilizes his platform to show himself as a competitive musician. However, while the ideas are flowing, not every song needs to be recorded and included on an album.
Lots of great relaxing rock, though he has a very stagnant style imo that doesn’t deviate too much from song to song (if you like one song you’ll like em all) 3.0
I was expecting to like this a lot more
Enjoyable background music, but doesn’t really catch you for the most part. You can tell it wasn’t a cohesive work, but just kind of everything he was working on
My kind of easy listening album, but why did this need to be 2 hours long? It also does matter that these songs were essentially not deemed good enough to be played by the Beatles. I liked the upbeat songs - it's Johnny's Birthday was a fun surprise!
Sorry george, ik vind het wel soort van mooi ofzo, maar ook saai
This feels like a collection of songs that weren't good enough to make it on another album. It's just far too long and only a few of the songs are strong enough to be remembered. I like the Beatles and George Harrison but find it absurd how every single mediocre b-side ever written by these people is treated with universal acclaim
5/10
Classic but wears out its welcome. Would prefer 3,5 stars but 4 is not possible and it's closer to a three
Some of these songs don't know when to be over, and I could do without the God/Jesus content. But I like the general sound -- definitely shades of the Beatles in there combined with his own cool 1970s thing.
Feels like I’ve heard these songs a lot, must be through the company I keep that they come on often
Some really strong singles and then some twangy filler.
No single Beatle is better than all the Beatles, and that includes George. Some of my favorite Beatles songs are written by Harrison, but his solo work on this album is pretty generic late 60’s jam psychedelic. There is some awesome guitar work on this record, and some really great country-inspired slide work, but other songs are pretty basic blues progressions that lack the musicality of previous Harrison melodies. Also, two hours is way too long; there’s a solid album in here somewhere that could’ve benefited from some discerning curation.
Sone much songs and guitar playing. whole album too long
Easy listening, My Sweet Lord was my favorite song.
George is great, but this was a good not great album
Also ich han nöd ziit gha zums durelose wel isch chli lang. Finds mega schwierig. Het scho gueti songs debii aber es packt mi eifach nöd. Klar isch denebed gsi vom paul und em yon lenon dases so wenig lieder vom jor harison uf d beatles albe loh hend aber uf dem album hets echli z viel songs vo ihm.
Hallelujah! Hare Krishna!
Great solo album.
I really liked the album but deep down I just wish it was a little shorter and more refined .
A bit long
Poppig, ohne große Ecken und Kanten.
There are lot of incredible things about this album. Some of the songs are truly truly great - My Sweet Lord being the obvious choice but also I’d Have You Any Time, Awaiting On You All, Art of Dying. There are also a lot of songs that are just… fine. And if there were just one or two it would be easier to overlook, but there are a LOT of songs on this thing. Apple Jam, the third LP that’s basically just blues instrumentals, goes pretty hard but does it need to go on for 30 minutes? This is always heralded as a triple album but it’s really a solid-if-a-little-inconsistent double album with some needless vamping slapped on at the end. The very last track doesn’t even sound like it’s been mixed! Isn’t It a Pity is a beautiful song and a highlight of the album… but do we need it in full twice? Do we need a single second of the song Apple Scruffs? It really is a pity because if this was more reined in and only focused on the highlights it would be on par with the best Beatles records but, as it is, it’s a fucking chore
Muutama leiskautus ja muuten kovin tasapaksua, mutta jokseenkin viihdyttävää menoa. Niukasti kolmonen.
I didn't know what to expect, but this was a pleasant album to listen to. Very relaxed. I'm not sure if it's something I'd intentionally seek out, but I would have no problem listening to it again.
Decent album but very long
Pretty good, very Beatles-esque, tad too long though.
Not bad at all. 3.5 stars.
A big range of songs. Some well known like "My Sweet Lord", some average ones and some great instrumental pieces at the end of the second cd (I listened to the 2014 Remaster version.
Too long without enough variation. I would've enjoyed a better curated experience.
Many overly long songs on this album.
With a couple notable exceptions, snooze.
Had like one banger. Generally too slow for my liking
Amazing songs from time to time. There's a lot of bloat on the album, makes it tough as a single listen
I Found sound not very clean. At moments even it slightly irritating
I like some of the songs, but most are forgettable.
fun albummmmmmmmm 7/10
Makes for nice background music. My Sweet Lord is obviously a stand out track and some great instrumental throughout the album but 2 hours is a long stretch of time to listen to an entire album front to back...
I was pleasantly surprised. Sometimes people with something to prove do manage to prove it. That said, it wasn't all gold and could have used a hard edit, so minus a star for bloat.
I was always curious about this album. The hit My Sweet Lord is memorable. The rest is a solid album. But, not the Beatles. I would not buy this on vinyl
I really enjoyed what would have been the first disc of this album. But the long bluesy jams from "Out of the Blue" to the end of the second disc are all samey. Decent, but samey and not overly interesting. Unexpected banger: Let It Down.
I enjoyed the instrumental pieces more than the lyrical ones. Very bluesy!
Lots of great ideas but they are mostly too long, too unfocused, and marred by gross production to really shine. There is also an excessive amount of filler even if you ignore the disc of bonus jams. With some tight editing and better production it could have been a masterpiece.
None
Don’t love the remastered versions. They felt to homogenous. His voice is more interesting and satisfying in the originals.
Classic 70s. Really long album. the songs all sounded really similar. Not offended.
had this playing at work and didnt realize the album ended. i think there are some good songs i think. so sorry george harrison i think youre a good musician.
Long, but pleasurable. It's great background rock.
Although I listened to the album at work in the background, and didn’t get the chance to dig deep into the songs, or which are which, I definitely vibed with the album and will listen again! Listen again: yes Purchase for my collection: maybe Favourite Song:
Only 2 good songs
I liked the songs and vibe but not much stood out apart from My Sweet Lord
Overlong and overrated, but still a must for any decent record collection.
Seems I should have liked this album, but I did not. Feels off, can't explain why
I went into All Things Must Pass anticipating a 4 or perhaps even the coveted 5 star rating, but I was disappointed it didn’t give me those kind of feels. It’s more a reluctant 3 in my opinion. The singles are phenomenal but the remaining tracks, most of which I was unfamiliar with, didn’t have the same pulling power.
I have a deep and abiding love for George Harrison, the man, and the artist. His years of being the money behind Monty Python has given us important and enduring art. His work with the Beatles was foundational within modern musical culture. His work as a public human being and humanitarian set the mold for many many musicians with a cause to come after. I would have liked to meet the man and simply tell him thank you for all that he has done. All that said, as a musician, he's a better ensemble man than lead. It's a crying shame he got sued over My Sweet Lord. What is Life is as good as any song as he's written. The wall of sound approach on Let It Down is delightfully impressive. Apple Scruffs is charming. (I think it's about a dog, perhaps?) He's one of the best guitarists of his generation, and one of the best of all time. So much of this album is merely okay, and that's unfortunate. Listening to track after track of indulgent b-side material, I get that he wanted to express himself as a serious musician post-Beatles, and I admire that. This is one of those examples of recording work that could have used some editorial input. You take the best tracks on this double album, and you have a solid 4. His need to write all the things and record them after being held back by the Beatles' working relationship is absolutely understandable. The 11-minute instrumental Out of the Blue is a great example of what I'm talking about. I'm not remotely opposed to instrumentals, but this track is a meandering, untethered jam session. It's not a composition that says much of anything about Harrison's artistic viewpoint. As a cohesive artistic expression, these extras and curiosities bring this album down. His best post-Beatles work was to come with the Traveling Wilburys. At least, that's my favorite. (Can be argued to be better than his Beatles work with one or two exceptions.)
I expected more from a Beatle.
It’s a testament to how good some of the songs are that I’m giving this a 3, because on the whole this album is TOO F***ING LONG
3.5 it grew on me as the day went on. I'm sure at the time it was made it was revolutionary but it just didn't really hit hard for me.
I already knew a lot of songs off this album but have never listened to it all the way through! Really great, especially the remastered versions.
okay laganica
This album is way too long. Folk tinged rock. A few good songs but I got bored by the style before th album was half done.
Decent solo offering from George. This is Life is great
There's some good stuff here, but it's lost in a sprawling sea. I don't hear this as an "album", it just goes on and on.
It's a little soft for me, fun to hear his 'voice' and extrapolate what he brought to the beatles
Rock. Folk
Ok
1970s Rock again, am familiar with the artist name but never listened. Nice sound right away. Nice vibe but nothing special so far - 3/5.
whoa 2hrs! okay...Oh shit My Sweet Lord I know this one. Didn't know it was him. I've heard What Is Life. I always thought it was the Beatles. It was good, a little long and all too similar. Got halfway through the second disc. 3 stars.
Listened to the first two albums, felt like it was acceptable to skip the 'jam' album. George can feel hard done by that he wasn't allowed to include any of this in the Beatles as it was significantly better than most the album tracks, without having anything that matched the big singles. Generally more interesting and cool than the average Beatles song. Therer was an annoying number of reprises for an album this long, clearly wasn't interested in trimming it down. I enjoyed it more than the average Beatles album but I don't really like the average Beatles album, it was okay.
J'avais de grandes attentes et j'ai été un peu déçue. Plusieurs belles chansons, mais j'ai l'impression que c'est l'œuvre d'un artiste qui a voulu être fidèle à lui-même et qui demande d'être apprivoisée
Repetitively George Harrison sounding. But good
- entspannt, sehr gut im Hintergrund zum Coden - "My Sweet Lord" kannte ich bereits (aus Guardians of the Galaxy meine ich), der Rest ist komplett neu - meist unaufregend, wenig überraschend, aber trotzdem gut - Bonuspunkt für das Cover - 3,5/5
Some songs on here are definitely a 4 or a 5 but analysing the album as a whole it's around a 3.5.
Enjoyed George Harrisons solo style from the Beatles but not as much as Paul
I haven't listened to any of Harrison's solo stuff, but I imagine it's not going to be too far off from the normal Beatles sound. I imagine a bit slower and more melancholy. It's what I expected but I am liking it more than I thought I would, very easy calm listening. Putting me in a relaxed mood. Reminds me a bit of Young of course. Oh wow, 'Run of the Mill' is a Harrison original..... surprising I've never heard this before. The band Deer Tick covers it and I thought it was one they wrote. Great song. This album was crazy long, had a hard time focusing near the end. overall decent.
A bit lengthy and that really hurts it. This could have been an absolutely cracking 40 minute album.
very mac demarco core "if not for you" sounds like im a believer from the shrek soundtrack did not finish :(
Goeie nummers! Niet helemaal mijn ding, maar bijv. My Sweet Lord staat op dit album.
Fun fact - the newest Beatle’s track is released today. I like a bit of George Harrison once I’m listening to it, but never relish the thought. Soz George.
I enjoyed this despite not being a Beatles super fan. There were some really good melodies and the song that stuck out to me was I Dig Love, which was fun. Overall a mellow album for a quiet day.
Weirdly long album, lots of krishna
I liked the first half, wasn’t a fan of the instrumentals
What can I say about this seminal album except that it really needed a better editor? Always a fan of George Harrison and discovered this epic album early in my musical journey, so it holds a lot of meaning for me, but upon listening again after a long stretch, I now realize I mostly love the first half or so. Lots of beautiful, heartfelt, stunning tracks, but lots of filler tracks that I find myself wanting to skip. This album is not, as Sum 41 put it, all killer, no filler. Favorite track: I Live For You Least favorite track: Out of the Blue
I'd Have You Anytime - 8/10 My Sweet Lord - 10/10 Wah-Wah - 8/10 Isn't It a Pity - 7/10 What Is Life - 10/10 If Not for You - 7/10 Behind That Locked Door - 7/10 Let It Down - 7/10 Run of the Mill - 7/10 I Live for You - 7/10 Beware Of Darkness - 7/10 Let It Down - 7/10 What Is Life - 7/10 My Sweet Lord - 10/10 Beware of Darkness - 7/10 Apple Scruffs - 7/10 Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll) - 7/10 Awaiting on You All - 7/10 All Things Must Pass - 10/10 I Dig Love - 7/10 Art of Dying - 7/10 Isn't It a Pity (version two) - 7/10 Hear Me Lord - 7/10 It's Johnny's Birthday - 7/10 Plug Me In - 7/10 I Remember Jeep - 7/10 Thanks for the Pepperoni - 7/10 Out of the Blue - 7/10 TOTAL - 210/280
All Things Must Pass, some take longer to do so than others.
Easy to listen to, some good songs, a bit calm for my tastes.
Instrumentals are nice but can’t hack most of the vocal tunes
This man had to record 2 hour long country/psycho/ballad rock album just to show to the people that he is as talented as his 3 colleagues. I respect it. 3.5/5.
Fun time hanging out with the hippies. He got a bad deal on the My Sweet Lord case.
Best Beatle
Ok hippy music
Some old classics
vieeel zu lang und paar nervige lieder dabei
Just solid music. Lacks the spirit of the beatles but the musical talent is shown through out. Could listen whenever but I wouldnt put it on myself
I don't know what it was with me but I just couldn't focus on it all too well. Some songs are bangers while others were just too long and just seemed filler. My Sweet Lord is the only song I already knew and its pretty good but besides that idk. I did like the overall vibes but *it's just too long*
This was my first time listening to this album in full and it definitely meanders a lot, especially with some instrumental breaks that feel a little too long for my tastes. It all ends up dispersing the impact of the album somewhat. There are some very high highs in here, however, and lots of great soundscapes. I prefer the heavier tracks overall; that distortion is so crunchy and satisfying. Favourite track: Art of Dying
Have listened before.. great album, but a bit too long. Like I know you had all these songs piling up, George, but still you could have saved some for later albums. Anyway probably the third or fourth best solo Beatle album, but I'll revisit that once I'm done listening.
sounds like beatles + dylan. some actually good songs, but not my speed. slide guitar hit tho
Quite sweet
It is a lovely album, in it's single disc form, or a bloated excess featuring racist child murderer Eric Clapton in it's three disc form. Choose the former for two of the best singles ever on a lovely, cosy album.
Wah -Wah. Legit.
3.5 Wonderful melodic tunes. The pent up creativity can be felt. Unleashed in a colorful, tuneful slide guitar lines and well-micced acoustics. Still, most songs hew pretty closely to pop structures and I would have liked to hear more experimentation, although the three disc album does get there at times, notably with Out of the Blue. But yeah, overall a great album. However whe you put two versions of the same song on an album… well, come on now. Love the descending chord moves that the Beatles loved so dearly in their later years ala While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and they are all over this one. Close to a four, but I don’t know if I’ll be adding it to my library
I am not a Beatles fan, or a Harrison fan. I love my sweet lord, but nothing else connected with me. I'm giving this a 3 because I recognize that the greater world loves the Beatles.
The album sounds like my perception of George Harrison. Musically very solid, but no unique selling point. Back and forth between "Does not bother me" an "Seems to be close to greatness, but that certain something is missing". Admittedly, rather the former than the latter.
Mot quite my tempo
Too long and haven't listened to all of it yet. Many good songs, just split it into two separate albums. Not for you cover was nice
Has "My Sweet Lord" so that's automatically a 3 at least but having seen some of the other reviews, it's hard not to agree and conclude that this is a loooooooooooooooooooong album. Probably unnecessarily so.
Great for late night blog writing! Good, upbeat but chilled vibes
Meh. Not for me.
2.5/5
Some important and lovely songs, but (especially considering I was presented with an extended edition) mostly not all that.
Decent album with a few good songs
Really good songs on this album, just too lengthy
6/10 Top 3: My sweet lord What is life Let it down
easy listening. pretty long album. i like the sound of the album.
Best Song: My Sweet Lord. The catchiest, most clear and resonant chorus. Glad the best song was the second track in a 2 hour long album. Worst Song: Behind That Locked Door. Just not interested in this plodding honkytonk. Overall: Albums this long annoy me. Were all of these songs good enough to make it onto the album? This listener says "No". Sure there are a few decent tracks littered throughout, but it mostly just sounds the same as one continuous note, and it betrays a disdain for editing that I don't like. If you're going to put out a project this large, make it cohesive and grandiose. Try to do something really difficult with it. Don't just bulk upload to increase quantity.
It was nice, easy listening. It wasn’t something that I would choose to listen to, but it was okay.
Yeah, it's okay
3/5. Bigger doesn’t mean better. This 2 hour anthology has a few good tracks especially towards the end. My favorite was Behind that Locked Door
очень длинно, очень фолк и неплохо спится!
A couple good songs.
Some good songs but the album could have been cut in half
Some great songs and some okay songs.
Fine but, for me it’s no the classic others seem to claim
a long boy! first track is good but feels like its missing Something my sweet lord is cool i like the hindu switch up songs are fun but feel way too jammy like write the song and have it have a structure i wish these songs didn’t try to be so long i can tell this is good music. i just dislike things being long and jammy i will have to listen to this again when i am more on the mood for long and jammy music
Caught me at the perfect time, I’ve been on a big Beatles kick after finally finishing the Get Back Series. I had realized I’m largely unfamiliar with the solo outings of each member. This album is really good and allows George to shine in his own light. Only complaint is the versions on Spotify have tons of bonus songs and I’m unsure where the actual album ends
George, what’s higher? The number of songs or the number of people to get thru the album. I get it, but release it as 4 albums for and easy 4 top selling albums.
Saw a review that I think nailed it: there is probably a 5 star album in here but it is just buried within the 2 hour length.
boring
This is about what I expected from a Beatles member solo project. Some nice, catchy tunes with variety, but wow this definitely did not need to be two discs. Just having all the good tracks on one disc would've been excellent, and honestly the entire second disc felt pretty unnecessary. Otherwise it felt like Beatles but also a little closer to American classic rock.
Way too long, but a few good songs
Triple album alert! Goes on way too long. Would have made a much tighter double. (Especuslly when tracks are repeated) There some good tracks but there are fillers too. Muddy production too.
A top four Beatle
ok. some nice tunes
Solid
Came in expecting to give this album 5 stars. It is good but it is just so long that it was kind of challenging to get entirely through.
Nice album and not without its highlights. I kept hoping I'd uncover some Harrison tune that I'd never heard that I would absolutely fall in love with, but that wasn't meant to be. Lots of solid little rock tracks in there. I thought Johnny's Birthday or whatever was the low point and I didn't finish that track. Kind of a no for me. Songs like Out of the Blue, My Sweet Lord are already old favorites.
What is Life is sooo good. Never knew that was a GH song. Wah Wah, also good but maybe a little too long...? Lotsa slide guitar and slow songs on this. All in all, GH may remain my fave Beetle, but after listening to this I can't exactly remember why. Process of elimination I suppose.
"All Things Must Pass." Some of them just take a long time to pass. Like gallstones. Or kids who skip class. Or this 23-track album. George Harrison might be a legend, but it's pretty rare in my experience that a double- or triple-album really needs to be that long. Inevitably there are plenty of filler songs that would have been better off cut. "My Sweet Lord" and "What is Life" are classics on par with Harrison's best Beatles' tunes, but there is not much else here that captures the magic.
I listened to this album twice today. The first time it was on in the background as I did stuff around the house. None of it really registered or caught my ear. The second time I listened closely. I had only heard “My Sweet Lord” and “All Things Must Pass” before. There’s a lot of great stuff on the album, and also things I think could be great. I realized I just don’t like Phil Spector producing the Beatles. The bombast and cacophony of his wall of sound that works so well in most cases, here obscures a lot of Harrison’s creativity. The same thing is what prevents me from really loving Let It Be. The Beatles (and here, Harrison) have always been so unique, but when Spector produces them it sounds like they’re singing on a Phil Spector song, as opposed to Spector maximizing the genius of their own points of view. I’d give this a 3.5, but since half-stars arent allowed i have to round down instead of up for some of the excess and my own dislike of the Harrison/Phil Spector combination.
Very good. 3.5/5 My Sweet Lord / Isn't It a Pity What Is Life Standouts: My Sweet Lord, Isn't it a Pity, What is Life, If Not For You, Others: I'd Have You Anytime, Behind That Locked Door, All Things Must Pass, I Dig Love, It's Johnny's Birthday. It is just a bit too long.
prima
This is so long that you kind of get lost in it and nothing really stands out. Guitar is good though.
It was alright. Too long in my opinion.
couple really good songs on here. Isn’t it a pity cover by galaxie 509 is the true meta
Waaaaay too long but what a cool recording legend. And a lot of the tunes were very good. They just needed a trim.
Too long
Good stuff probably needs a second listen
Greit nok, litt for langt
For some reason, I've never allowed myself to explore the solo catalogs of the Beatles. I'm glad that this has prompted me to break from that pointless self-imposed rule.
Long but excellent. Standouts: Isn't it a Pity (Both versions), What is Love, My Sweet Lord, If Not For You, Others: I'd Have You Anytime, Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), All Things Must Pass, Rating: 3.5
I recognized the cover of All Things Must Pass, but I was only familiar with a couple of the tracks on this album. I liked the album for the most part. I really like a lot of what George did with the Beatles, but there is music from his solo career that does not resonate with me. There are tracks that I would come back to ("Awaiting on You All", "All Things Must Pass", "What Is Life", "If Not for You", "Behind That Locked Door", "Out of the Blue"), but there were tracks on the album that I'd be tempted to skip on a re-listen. Some of the country-tinged songs and the instrumental held more of my attention. I could hear a connection between this album and Harrion's recordings with the Traveling Wilburys. It was also fun to hear Harrion linking his music back to the 50s sound of Rock and Roll (Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard) in "Thanks for the Pepperoni". The album is long and I'm not rounding up to 4 stars. If I cut out a few of the tracks I didn't enjoy, there would still be a full album's worth of music that I could give 4 stars to.
Bit long...
As obliged, I bought and smoked a whole packet of cigs while listening to this album. Actually, if anything, I think this album may be a little underrated because it's not a Beatles album. Despite that, I think that this actually has a lot of very cool harmonies/chord progressions as well as great guitar work. Sadly I feel like the production leaves a little to be desired, especially after the most recent Beatles remaster on Revolver, but oh well, it's still listenable and pretty good for being the worst(?) part of the experience - maybe this goes to the runtime... Especially with the track Let it Down, I feel like the production is so messy it takes away quite a lot from the track - why is the hi-hat so loud? Why can I bearly hear the orchestra at the start? What's with the organ being kinda muddy? I will give credit that the bass guitar sounds decent. I can't believe the absolute BOP of My Sweet Lord has to end on a fade out and a croud cheering :( I was so enjoying it too The StarWars noises on I remember jeep are a bit of a strange direction but I can forgive it I suppose I wish again I could do decimals because this is a perfect 3.5 to me... I may have to round down sorry Mr. H.
It's the kind of music you find playing over a highlights reel of Scott Kelly's Noncing World Cup 2023.
Niet zo heel speciaal
Post Beatles work from Harrison. It's worth a listen.
Not bad, not great. Didn't realize it but I knew two songs coming into it... Those ended up being my least favorite, lol. The rest was decent, but nothing I'd go out of my way to listen to. Pretty generic classic rock one might hear on any classic rock station. Nothing added. 5.5/10
It's very easy to see how this album had a huge influence on music in the future, this music very much sounds like what would eventually become music by bands like Pink Floyd.
2 hours and 5 minutes? Who does this guy think he is? I did not listen to the whole thing, but I did enjoy The Art Of Dying and I’d have you anytime. I don’t hate it by any means, but I am a fan of more concise albums. Extra star for having the word Pepperoni in the title of a song.
good
I think the best term to describe this album is summertime garden vibes. I wouldnt mind listening to this if it came on while I was outside with my friends having a BBQ in my garden etc Real rating 3.5/5
Classic!
Quando acerta é boa mas muito musica pra enche linguiça no album
Really enjoying this, and didn't think I would. Very chilled vibes on a Friday. Not listening to the lyrics, just enjoying the music.
Bit bloody long
You can hear the beatles vibes, I have to admit I didn't know My Sweet Lord was on this and was pleasantly surprised. In parts definitely a 4/5
Too long. Sounds like Beatles offcuts, because it is.
Wow this is a lot of George Harrison. Evidence of how pent up he must have been in the Beatles, going off and releasing 2 hrs of music. Of course he is a legend, a fantastic guitarist, but I don't get excited about many of these songs. I hate to say it but they are kind of pop rock snoozers. Some of my favorites were actually the Apple Jams. Could be a much tighter, and therefore more interesting, album.
Some good songs with others just being "okay" to me. I'm definitely a believer in that the Beatles are best when all are present, and their individual projects never gel enough with me. Definitely prefer George over others though.
It passed, like all things
Mostly a pass from me
Nice. Far too nice.
Given it's a triple album, probably best enjoyed in three sittings, (far too much to take in a single sitting). ...and given all the material, I felt it could have been condensed and refined down to a stellar single album. "My Sweet Lord" is still the standout track for me. 3.5
It didn't really move me
Yes, an amazing album full of things he'd written for The Beatles but John and Paul wouldn't let him record and put on a Beatles album. It's a landmark but a little too long for me.
3-4
There are enough great songs on this double album to make a one very good album. Enjoyable but bloated.
70s folk. Several classics. Still some Beatlesesque moments.
Been a while since anything Beatles related, thought maybe I'd FINALLY exhausted it all.... nope. Did Ringo have a solo career? Guess I'll have to brace for that as well. I recognised "my sweet lord". I had no idea I knew it, or that it was Harrison. Lots of it sounded like Beatles b-sides, which Wikipedia says it basically was. Full of familiar-sounding licks, even though I'd never heard them before. It went far too long (no chance I'll listen to all the bonus tracks) and wasn't honestly that interesting - it was pretty samey - but it didn't absolutely torture. 3/5.
Really good stuff here, just longgggggg. Love the Beatles, love the individual members, but probably wouldn’t return to this album.
I guess George deserve a little bit of freedom but this just seems rambling and unfocused - like the worst parts of the White Album. I think Paul and John were doing important work keeping him reined in. No reason for this album to go over 100mins (other than self-indulgence).
OK, a bit dated Probably as good as the beatles so-so stuff
I've been meaning to listen to this for 53 years! Finally had a go, it's not bad.
Estilo Beatle con canciones rítmicas y con estilo. Más de un tema fácilmente identificable. En ocasiones más guitarrero y más instrumental
i liked it pretty well, i would’ve loved it if i was alive when it came o it
Enjoy the tunes with horns and the ones with a country tinge.
Bores me, like the rest of the fab fours output. i never got it, whatever 'it' was, and now it's gone so far behind me 'it' will never be got
Overly long with way too many songs and some that go on for too long without really getting anywhere. At least what is here is pleasant but it could be a much better record at 1/3rd of the runtime.
I liked a lot of songs, but when it’s 2 hours long I have already forgotten most of it… maybe refine a big George?
Some good songs but too much clutter
My favourite post Beatles album, but still falls short of greatness
This 2 hour long triple LP has a five star album in here, but is surrounded in a thick layer of 4 star songs, enclosed by a 2 star jam session.
1970 - first solo album after beatles broke up. a triple album! "My Sweet Lord" – recognize it woot. "i really wanna see you" to impatience "it takes too long". Kinda interesting crossover b/w christianity and hindu. "what is my life" another jammer I recognize. Had no idea this was solo George. Ultimately not my cup of tea but can respect the craft.
good music for the background
Some good songs mixed in with some not so good ones
Можно послушать
So. Even ignoring dic 3 (original iteration) this is still too long and too ramble. But the good bits are very good indeed. Probably a 4, but because I can't magic away the extraneous material...
classic George
ххххмммммммммм май лорд оо маайй лорд эээ два часа оке .....
The first batch of songs start with eclectic guitar intros, acoustic electric and slide. It's certainly an album for guitar lovers with both Harrison and Clapton sharing duties. My Sweet Lord is a colossal hit with it's recognizable silky slide guitar and spiritual theme. It brings back fond memories of the days when such a song could get high rotation on the radio. I know he lost the plagiarism lawsuit to Bobby Mack but that was because him being a Beatle made it a circus.
Surprisingly engagnig
All things must pass, but some take a bloody long time to.
like kidney stones
This is very easy to listen to. It makes me think and I can feel it in my heart. It isn't something I would typically listen to, but I like it and I'm glad I listened. I haven't listened to much of the Beatles' work, but this makes me interested in listening to more. The last few tracks are very long.
Unusually long album. Generally great songs with some misses in the mix
Seems a bit ironic, that Harrison's first album after The Beatles seems to harken back to some of the earliest and least interesting work of The Beatles. This is not a bad album. It's just very far from being an interesting album.
my sweet lord is completely overrated, there are songs that are far better on this album. best song “isn’t it a pity”, worst is “my sweet lord”.
My sweet lord, lidt langt album, men sangskrivningen og guitaren fejler intet
Pretty middle of the road for me, buoyed by the genre diversity on display.
Should have been a double album. I dropped a star for all the songs that could have been left at Demo stage (I'm looking at you, "It's Johnny's Birthday").
Outside of having an all-timer of a single this is very fillerish. The charm of Harrison’s fab five days isn’t there. The new direction of this doesn’t hit quite as well as it should. Overall a very meh entry in the post-Beatles catalogue of one of its members.
-S Tier- ***n/a*** -A Tier- My Sweet Lord What Is Life Let It Down -B Tier- Behind That Locked Door Run of the Mill I Dig Love -C Tier- I’d Have You Anytime Wah-Wah Isn’t It a Pity If Not For You I Live for You -D Tier- Beware of Darkness Apple Scruffs Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp -F Tier- Awaiting on You All AVG SCORE: DNF - - - Come on, George. Two fucking hours? Not on your life, Buddy. A few solid songs on this as far as I could tell. I bailed about 2/3rds through it. George was always the Boring Beatle, and this album is appropriately sedate. Still, not a miserable listen. I could easily queue this up on a car ride and let it accompany me for a 2hr trip. I wouldn’t notice it very often, to be fair.
Some killer, a lot of filler, especially sides 5 and 6 which are largely superfluous to needs and not overly memorable. So, we end up with a decent triple album, that could’ve been an excellent double album instead.
Best lekker om even te luisteren. Ik heb het album wel niet helemaal gered...
Prachtig, maar er komt geen einde aan, beetje jammer voor met een voorkeur voor 30 minuten albums zoals ik.
If someone put this on, I wouldn't turn it off.
George Harrison of the Beatles. Nice "My sweet lord".
Some mildly good stuff on here. The instrumental was way too long, though.
Good
I can appreciate it for what it is, none of the songs are bad or irritating, but nothing is really standing out to me as especially interesting either (Wah-Wah came close). It sounds like the music that you'd hear playing playing quietly in the background on an old radio in the garage/shop of a 60+ year old man who's going bald but still has a pony tail, and he's wearing a vest, but not ironically. It might also be playing in the background at a quirky antique shop.
man. how can you follow up a timeless song like My Sweet Lord with the song Wah-Wah? & this is album is 2 hours long? The late 60s/early 70s were a crazy time. Overall this album is very easy to listen to even with the long run time with some great songs mixed in with solid others. I really enjoyed the whole thing.
09/16/2022 So…..I loved this abmlbun amas as a teenager and Im also drjnk…..awarding on your all is iconic
Some really good songs but way too fucking long
There's some great stuff in here. Could do with some editing for a fantastic album. I give it a 3 with an easy 4 or 5 with some editing.
For some reason, there's a new video for My Sweet Lord. Don't really know why, but it does seem cool, 20 years after he passed away. The album is nice and mellow. The aforementioned song is beautiful.
