Reviews (page 8 of 13)
Harrison got a lot of unique perspective and he really pours it all out on this one. Third solo album but first post-Beatles, so it really feels like a rebirth-- although many of the songs were written pre-Beatles departure. He had so many disillusionments with the band, however, that this album feels like an escape into his own inner-world. I wouldn't have it any other way, had some of these songs been Beatles songs, we wouldn't have as rich a garden to disappear into with this album. Harrison's reconnection with the sense of the divine on My Sweet Lord, McCartney burn of Wah-Wah, the gutting nuanced examination of heartbreak & humanity of Isn't It A Pity.. I could go on. The latter track guts me in the most beautiful way, and for an extra-curricular journey, check out Nina Simone's cover of this song which has you feel every fiber of the lyric's emotions. Another gem on this album is Run of the Mill, a look at the dissolution of male friendship that lead to the end of the Beatles, a topic hardly explored in songwriting. Despite all this bittersweet reflection, this album feels like a long, overdue exhale. It feels like the best kind of closure, one with plenty of promise of a beautiful future to come.
Listened to it once, don't make me do this again.
4/5 this is honestly better than a lot of his albums with the beatles.
Never listened to a solo George Harrison album before. I was familiar with My Sweet Lord, but not heard the others. Most were quite nice to listen to.
1/29/24. Wish the Beatles would've let George written more songs. All very solid here on this solo effort.
Very soothing. Another good background music track. Definitely has moments that are very Beatles vibes.
It was a decent album very can see George growing away from the beetles sound as the album goes kinda hit me in the feels because some of my personal life stuff atm
This was really good. I was surprised how Beatles this sounded in parts and how George it sounded in others.
Was not happy about the 2 hour listen time, turned out to be great. New appreciation for George Harrison. Loved the mix of soft and upbeat acoustic.
High 4 not a 5 tho
Now heres an album that gives you a nice little vibe it has solid tunes and makes you feel good. little long.
3.5
I don't like the 60s pop sound of the Beatles. That's what I was expecting from this. Thankfully it was different - a more "grown up" sound. It's a long triple album so I won't rate/list each track - just the particularly good or bad. Loved the first track - I'd have you anytime Wah-Wah - a definite NO Isn't it a pity - 5 Star good Hear Me Lord - Really good Plug Me In - Great jamming blues Out of the Blue - Extra long jam. Top notch This album really, really surprised me. I liked most of it, so 4 stars
Sounds fresher than most albums from 1970. My Sweet Lord is a classic and the rest pass by without irritation
great album, one of the best Beatles solo works honestly
A classic that never gets old. The two disks with songs are solid 5 stars, but the jam disk only works under the right circumstances and one listen goes a long way. Hence, by 4 star rating.
A classic, if not a bit toooooo long. But I love George.
Some banger
Mi querido George

My sweet Lord... If this was cut in half (or at least without "Apple Jam") it would stand a chance for the highest mark. The album is great, but do we really need two versions of "Isn't It a Pity" when the first one is so nearly perfect? George Harrison shows that he is as great as Lennon and McCartney are.
I love all things beatles. Well besides most yoko-related things.... but this is a great album
te amoooooo 8.5/10
There was a lot to listen to.
hab ich :-)
A lot of people making the mistake of listening to the bonus tracks, which are weirdly in "the middle" since they showed up on CD1 originally. If you're using Spotify, hide the tracks starting with "I Live For You" and ending with "Oh My Lord (2000)". With that said, it's still too long, particularly in the last few songs. Now with THAT said, it still is absolutely 90% gold and well worth listening to (sans bonus tracks) IMHO. Kind of a hard album to rate for that reason. I think it's not quite 5 material all told though. Definitely a 5 in there somewhere, but I'll call it the very solid 4 I feel it actually is.
Great album but a point off for the ‘jams’.
Fine
as someone who knows shockingly little of the beatles and their solo stuff i was glad i enjoyed this. favourite song was let it down
Loved listening to this album. Reminded me of a Beatles album, post Beatles. A perfect album for someone left wanting more after the Beatles broke up.
I forgot how wonderful this album is. Every bit of George Harrison you could want.
Great classics. Album/songs ran a little long sometimes though.
yeah... That's about what I expected... pretty mellow, and not bad listening on a rainy day though.
Tender, meaningful, catchy, and unique. Every song on this album is good. I enjoyed listening to the whole thing. It is just missing something to make it a 5/5. I think I enjoy his peppier songs a bit more. Favorite Songs: I'd Have You Anytime, My Sweet Lord, Isn't It A Pity, What Is Life Least Favorites: Let it Down
Several very familiar songs that are longtime favorites from my youth, plus a number of songs new to me that I really enjoyed. A very fun listen.
Some bangers George
Great post-Beatles album. Spiritual themes, diverse musical styles, and impressive collaborations with world-class musicians
This is an easy like Sunday morning album. It feels like being in love in the springtime. Definitely full of flower power.
!!! Me grandads fave. And I can see why, it’s a masterpiece. Honestly my fave beatle too. Songs make me feel transcendent and like I want to find religion lol. Only made it thru the first 10 songs tho then I was like nah.
Ja, natürlich my sweet lord super, lässt sich gut hören.
Great background music for walking the dog and wrapping presents. Instrumentals felt complex and really had depth, but the overall sound of the album was very same-same throughout (I didn't realize the album was repeating itself until I came back to the second song, when I recognized the lyrics). Would be great to enjoy in California, during road trips, and during physical activity when I need additional stimulation that I can choose to focus on or not.
Another demonstration of why the beatles are the best band in history. You can see that each of the members was a genius who was not at the time. George Harrison shows that despite being the Beatle with the least spotlight, he could do great things. He puts out one of the best songs I've ever heard in my life and it's a beautiful album.
Bloated but good
For being as big of a Beatles fan as I am, I really have slept on a lot of their solo works, only really exploring the big songs. I knew a couple off this album but this was a new experience by one of my favorites and I really should have checked it out a long time ago. Not as tight as a Beatles album, but still really well written songs with great music. Also really dig all the jams at the end.
Nice music for calm occasions.
Rating: 8/10 Great album overall. A lot of great songs on here, the second disc was pretty fantastic in particular. Many catchy songs and melodies, although some songs do sound similar, especially on the first disc. This album would definitely benefit and be considerably stronger if it wasn't so long, I would personally take pretty much the second disc and the best songs from the first to make an absolutely stellar album. Favorite songs: My Sweet Lord, Wah-Wah, What Is Life, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp, All Things Must Pass, I Dig Love, Hear Me Lord, Out of the Blue. Worst song: I'd Have You Anytime, Run of the Mill.
My favorite of all the Beatles solo albums. Superb start and finish
It was pretty good but it was just too long. Honestly I think if he played within a band it would have been better. - 7/10
A lot of Beatles music seems pretty rambling to me, with a soft beat and not a lot of direction. Many of the songs on this very long album were the same. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of songs I did enjoy, not just the ones that were more driving, but also some others. George Harrison is a good musician, after all. I would definitely get bored if just listening, but as semi-background music it was solid. 7/10
8.5/10 - So many great songs but so many songs. There was only one or two I knew before going into it but a bunch of them were enjoyable. However, with as long as the album was they cannot all be bangers.
I enjoyed most of the songs, some could have been shorter 8/10
I do love George Harrison's music, and this is a lovely album. Such an interesting, somewhat sad yet sweet, path his life and art took him on.
It's evident that George had something to prove with this album. It must have been hard to always have been in the shadow of John and Paul, but it could be worse, he could be Ringo! There are some great songs on this album, but there is also a lot of filler. No album needs to be over two hours long. I'm sure some poor record producer tried to tell George it was too long and would benefit from a good chop here and there, but I imagine George puffed out his chest, shook his head and said, "This is my time to shine".
Imagine being the third most talented member of a band and still having a hall of fame solo career. George made a whole album off the cutting room floor of his time with the Beatles - which is awesome, but also kinda sad when you think about how much more that band had left in the tank. Still, these are great songs in their own right and I don't think George gets enough credit for his impact on the Beatles' sound. He made that case pretty clear on this one. He's a good songwriter and a great guitarist.
Listened Before? No Album opens with a super clean bluesy guitar lick. Love the progression of I'd Have You Anytime. Had this in the background through the first 4, but it has been very enjoyable thus far. The songs sort of wrap around you like a warm coat. Isn't It a Pity is a long-form piece with orchestral flourishes. Too much in here to possibly dissect it all... Let It Down was a pretty one. Stripped down and tender. [begin rant] While I don't dislike anything so far, I think that 2 hours of any music is a hell of a lot to ask of a listener. Add also that they decided to remaster and re-sequence with additional bonus tracks... I really wish they would let albums just rest the way that they are instead of inserting additional bloat... [end rant] I'm halfway through and found that first set of sides to be really enjoyable. Crazy that this was a six-sided release on delivery. Man had a lot to say, I guess. I will say that there are a lot of different ideas presented here, but it is hard to say that 2 straight hours is ever justified. It just feels like a failure at the editorial stage and a stroke of overblown hubris. Pending any significant farts on the second half, this is a 4 / 5 for the quality of the sounds that Harrison put together alone. There is probably a 5 / 5 album in here, but I can't get past the excessive length without more experimentation to justify. Added to Library? Yes
Long boy album here. Definitely loved this album and considered giving it a 5 stars. I would give it a 4.5 at least if the option was available. Lot of great songs and some I didn't even realize was George Harrison. Really enjoyed the listen.
Had something longer written out but erased it, here's the gist: Long album. Spotify has the track listing all messed up. Really good music. Nothing innovative, but a very high level of musicianship in each and every song. Faded to the background a bit. 3.5 rounded up because this is a flawless, albeit not too exciting album. Probably too long for me to ever re-listen, but I feel like this really earned 4 stars.
Oh boy this is a doozie at 2 hours long. (Edit) only 1:40 after realizing there are bonus tracks scattered around in the middle of the album. I thought I was going crazy thinking that I had already heard some songs before. This album has a bunch of songs that I knew but didn't know where they were from. Not the albums fault, but Spotify having the alternative versions of the songs randomly placed in the middle of the album is criminal. That was a marathon which I had to break up into 3 different sessions. But overall a super enjoyable album with songs that were such easy listening and capped off by 3 straight instrumental jams to close it out. This was already a 4 for 90% of the album but then those three jams at the end raise this to a very high 4. Favorite song: What is Life
Widely considered the best album a former Beatle released, this album really shows how great of a songwriter George was. Sucks because some of these songs could've ended up Beatles songs. Also insane that he made this after the Beatles broke up and was still only 27! Unfortunately it's also insanely long and has some songs that just seem like filler compared to the rest. If he whittled this down to a single album it would've been 5/5 easy but alas, can't quite go there with a 4.5
Pleasant album. Sounds unsurprisingly similar to Beatles. In the end it drowns in waves of rock and roll.
3.5
pleasant - I think if I pulled my favs I’d get a great album but with the length as it is, it began to feel meandering. iconic album art though. remember liking my sweet lord, wah wah, awaiting on you all, all things must pass, art of dying
Truly lovely album, 4 stars.
My Sweet Lord Wah Wah Let It Down** Enjoyable, very Beatles reminiscent
Classic rock that I normally don’t listen to. Has some country to it.
Good album, but quite long and not everything seems to stand out
Has some amazing stuff but is also very lengthy causing the attention to slip at times
Very pleasant, I enjoyed the more understated songs the most. The opening song was my favorite.
Sounds like the Beatles and Elton john had a love child
Ah, my favorite Beatle. This album can seem like a lot to get through, but I think it's so good that I can look past that. A few filler tracks here and there, but still a solid record if you like that soft rock sound.
I have no idea how to listen to music and idk what I think of this album but I'm trying
The best Beatle
So, in the interest of transparency, I did not finish this album. I think I have “Hear Me Lord” onwards to finish. In fairness, it’s over two hours long. Anyways. I generally like this. I wasn’t expecting to, but I actually enjoyed a number of songs. I think if I broke it up more I’d enjoy it a bit more, I did kinda get tired of it after a while. One song I liked was Art of Dying
Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. Albeit I didnt listen to the full thing, 4 hours is a bit much for someone who isnt a massive fan like me. Recognised a few good tracks from it; My Sweet Lord and Isnt it a pity being two of the better ones. Wah wah was a belter too. Reminds me a lot of Wilco at times (or should I say Wilco reminds me a lot of this). Agree with the other comments: this is better than a lot of what I’ve heard from The Beatles. Probable wouldnt rush back; but very good nonetheless. 3.5
My Sweet Lord is, of course, superb. The rest of the album is decently solid, If Not For You stood out but the rest were pretty alright. A heavily-weighted 5 stars for My Sweet Lord, 3 and a bit for the rest of the album.
When I saw the 2 hour runtime I was dreading listening to it and had very low expectations. Surprisingly I liked quite a lot of it. While I did enjoy the last three blues guitar tracks, all of them out stayed their welcome. The album is far too long and in dire need of trimming down. It's a shame George couldn't include more of this work into The Beatles because this is a very good album. Highlights: My Sweet Lord Wah-Wah Isn't It A Pity What Is Life Let It Down
Was familiar with "my sweet lord" as my wife plays it all the time, but the rest was new to me. I quite enjoyed it. It's too long, but it was largely decent. Lots of religious themes too, which got a bit tiring. But some great guitar. You can hear the Beatles in there, which I suppose isn't surprising. "Isn't it a pity" pretty much had the nah nah nah bit from hey Jude! Highlights: My sweet lord Art of dying If not for you Not sure I'll be rushing back but it's good, better than McCartney 3.5. Probably would've given more if it weren't so long
Svårt med ex-Beatlarnas skivor. Inget blir lika bra, men här finns ändå bra kvalitéer. Hade det skurits lite hade det varit ännu bättre.
some really good stuff on here, probably George's best work post Beatles. A lot of the songs on here would not feel out of place on a Beatles album. with that being said, this album is long in every sense of the word. I felt exhausted after 2 hours when George was in the middle of thanking me for pepperoni. you could easily cut out half of the songs on this album and it would be better off
Never listened to much of the Beatles past members´ own work, and the few songs I have heard were from John Lennon. So this was quite uncharted territory for me. I have to say I was surprised and impressed. It is VERY good! It contains the hit 'My Sweet Lord', but I find it overall to have very high quality songs, at least in the first half, with 'Run Of The Mill' being my favourite one. I actually wanted to give it 5 stars at some point, but when I consider that it's over 2h playtime and the second half doesn't nearly live up to the first half, I have to lower it a bit. So I think a 4 is quite appropriate!
I hadn't listened to this album before. Something is so calming about this collection of songs, it feels warm and relaxing. I knew the hits like "What is Life" and "My Sweet Lord" but the rest of the songs are good too. There are too many great songs to count and I think they really excel being played as an album as you get into the right mood. "Run of the Mill" and "I Live for You" stood out during my first listen. If there is anything bad to say about this album is that it is way too long, if it wasn't for it's length this would've been an easy 5 star. I am quite torn though as I can't really pinpoint any bad songs, it just continues for a bit too long. I'm really happy to have found this album and when listening to it more in the future I think this could easily be a 5 star.
There is a 5 star album in this assortment but it's just too long. If it was more cohesive I'm fine with length but this feels like two albums taped together at times. What is Life and My Sweet Lord are both incredible. I really like George and think this as a response to The Beatles ending really shows how much of the band he had become. Decent album, needs edits, some fantastic songs.
First bit of the album sounded like the Beatles to me. Beware of Darkness I like, I hear a lot of 90s music in there, but I like this more. Okay here we go. Apple Scruffs might be my favorite song. Apple Scruffs sounds like the kind of thing that gets us to a Daniel Johnston eventually. Again glad this exists, might even put it on again in the future. It goes a little off the rails towards the end, but I can't complain. It's a lot for just one day, some of these songs have growth potential. I feel like I can hear all of his influences in here and the ones he influenced.
- Bester Song: "What is Life" -> geht nach vorne und bleibt im Kopf! Rating: 3,75/5 bzw. 7,5/10
Great music. A little slow at times but really high highs
Superb.
sweet beautiful album. a bit too slow for mu tatse but never the less gorgeous
EXCELENT BUT TOO LONG
I was sort of dreading this listen once I saw the run time of this album. Over 2 hours is a lot to ask, and it's definitely too much here, but aside from the sheer amount of music here it was actually not too bad to sit through. I didn't need the repeated tracks, and maybe they weren't there on the original album. But there are a few bonafide hits on here. I probably never gave George Harrison enough credit as a Beatle. This feels as 70s-singer-songwriter as it gets, and if you're a fan of the genre and willing to skip around a bit, then it's definitely worth your time. Highlight: My Sweet Lord Lowlight: Wah-Wah Surprise Hit: If Not For You
I enjoyed listening to this. However, is it a good *album*? Well, it's too long, the tracks are varying quality and it ends with several long instrumental tracks that basically feel like jam sessions. The good stuff is so good that I can't give it a 3, though. Fave Tracks: My Sweet Lord, Art Of Dying. Listens: 1 (didn't have time for more) Rating: 4
If the beatles were beetles George harrison would be a north american black beetle (i forget their official name, much like i do with the name george harrison) because usually i forget his existence until he shows up on the floor of my kitchen and then i appreciate him from a distance but im not as impressed with him as i am with the more flamboyant beetles nor do i know what instrument he played in his band exactly. But he does his best Still good music just not really for me Ringo starr is a weevil (no im not just making fun of his nose, he is a weevil in his soul) John lennon is a ladybug And the other guy is the glue beetle that held them all together
Really enjoyed this album with some great songs on it. Great to hear his solo stuff
I really enjoyed the album, especially when Harrison's distinct guitar style mixed with slide and steel guitar country influences. I listed to it on Spotify, which included some of the 2014 remasters but appreciated more of the stripped back original tracks in comparison (eg Beware the Darkness). Best Songs: My Sweet Lord, Isn't it a Pity (Version 1), Let it Down, Hear me Lord Listen Again: Yes
Quite liked it, and a few really good ones! Some did get a bit samey.
It's shocking to me that, growing up obsessed with all things Beatles, I've somehow gone 53 years without ever listening to this album, George's magnum opus. Well, better late than never! It really is a great album, showcasing George at his best. It must have been so refreshing for him to move away from the sitar and Indian-influenced experimentation and get back to his roots. It's a great album, although it maybe could have used a bit of editing to get it down to a more reasonable length. 4 stars.
Atmosferical, relaxing
Album plays like a recipe. There's Oasis, Bowie, Dylan, all here and there. And like a recipe, a good long waffle about shit all. George, dude. Why use lot song when few song do trick?
The highs are mesmerizing. Standout songs are “I’d have you anytime” and “Run of the mill”. However, due to that 2+ hrs runtime, it can be a slog to get through all at once, and I found myself waiting for it to end. Still an amazing album and I’ll listen again but in sections.
Classic tunes, lots of hits onthis album. Certainly hear the Beatles flavors coming through.
For his first solo album, George gave everything he had and more. It must have felt so liberating to release these songs without having the pressure that was coming with the iconic Lennon/McCartney duo. And to be honest what George releases here is stellar, pretty much everything is on par with his latest Beatles compositions like Here Comes the Sun and Something. But there's two things that prevents me from giving it a 5: the cute but ultimately pointless jam side and the fact that he could have trimmed the album a little. He could have saved some of the songs to release them on a followup album instead of laying everything he had all at once. But it's still indeniably a classic and easily one of the very best solo albums from a Beatles member.
''Oh well, The Beatles are done. Let's get all my unreleased b-sides together, release that on a 3-LP boxset and forget how to make music after that''
Epic album from the a Beatles who had been carrying his unreleased songs around in his suitcase for years. The result is wonderful with some of the best songs of his career. Unfortunately, the third disc is pushing it too far with more pointless stuff that could have become bonus tracks.
Lovely album! Many good songs in there!
It's kind of funny how quickly Paul dismisses George's ideas in the Get Back documentary. I think it was the song Something that George was showing the band for the first time, and their reactions are all just, "meh." George had a lot of ideas that were more or less blown off by the band, and maybe that was for the best. I think a few of them make it onto this album. Some of them are brilliant, others, not so much. A double album (triple album for the initial LP release in 1970) is bold, no matter who you are. There needs to be GOOD reasoning for making your album 2+ hours long. And while I don't think the runtime is earned here, this really is a monumental achievement of a record. All in all I’d say this is the best post-Beatles solo effort. This album has some of my favorite guitar work, maybe ever. It separates Harrison from his pre-existing legacy while helping create a new one. George was always an incredibly underrated songwriter, and I think this album proves that. Unfortunately he wouldn't go on to top this, as most of his solo work is entirely forgettable, but this certainly solidifies the idea that George didn't need The Beatles to be successful.
A little long
Learning from additional reading, Clapton was involved in this album and in each other's lives to the point where Harrison's wife, Patty Boyd, marries Clapton 9 years later and everyone remained amicable. The famous song "Layla" is about her and was released the same year. The rift between Harrison and Boyd was starting by this time, due to infidelities, infertility, and Harrison's interest in Indian religion. I think you can feel that in this album - loving someone but not totally happy, accepting something but looking beyond it hopefully... It's even outwardly said in "Isn't It A Pity"
My boy George Harrison dropped some absolute heat with this one.
Impressive for two-disc nearly two hours of music. Felt like Beatles without the corniness.
A very solid 4/5
A beatle and a slide guitar - what could be bad?
This album is long. When I saw that 100 minute length, I got a little scared. I was worried I'd be stuck listening to an hour and 40 minutes of nothing. But once I played that first song, I knew I had something special on my hands. Truthfully, this album is worth every second of its runtime. George might not have been the most prolific or popular member of The Beatles, but everything he was capable of shines through here. There is probably so much I could say about this album, but I'm bad at talking about individual tracks. Overall, this album just has so much love in it, and it warms the heart. Most of the songs are softer and more chill. It is an excellent blend of pop rock and folk rock. But there are also some bangers on this, like Art of Dying. Or pretty much the entirety of the E and F side. I like how bluesy and jammy those last couple of songs are, but I don't know if they really hold up to the rest of the content on the record. Honestly, it might be overplayed, but just listen to My Sweet Lord once and you will understand why this is so special. Rating: 8/10
He writes a good song but a triple album? No need
Great Album!
Harrison has always been my favorite Beatle
Impressive continuation of the Beatles sound and this would be a 5/5 if it was shorter. There's too much padding for the lack of a better word.
Very good chilled out album
Classic Beatles sound with many hits I didn’t realize were from this record.
3.5/5
Really good! Some amazing songs and great sound. Very casual, but had good rock and psychedelic aspects
From the ridiculous to the sublime. It's hard to think of a stronger run of opening songs than the first six on this (any of which would've improved Let It Be), and yet the two best songs - Beware of Darkness and the title track - come later. All Things Must Pass is my funeral song and maybe contains the best lyric of all time - daylight is good at arriving at the right time, it's not always going to be this grey. It loses out on the big five for being a triple album that could have been a great double or up there with the best single albums of all time, but God it's great.
Didn’t realise how many bangers were on this album. Great start.
Beautiful album had a great time
George you quiet little Beatle. This is a superb album that showed how much George enjoyed Hinduism and the slide guitar. It has fun catchy songs. It has good rock songs. It has deep ballads. It’s everything you would expect from a good Beatles album. It’s one of the best solo Beatles albums and a great album in general. This is a must listen. 8.5/10
Poznala pred začetkom tega eksperimenta, mi je zelo pri srcu. Tokrat sem posebno pozornost namenila pesmim, ki nikdar niso bile v moji rotaciji. Fave komadi: cel album je res neverjeten, ampak Isn't it a pity, What is Life, Run of the Mill
Isn’t it a pity how long this is? He could have made a beautiful and perfect single disc album if he’d focused on perfecting his better songs rather than including two versions of Isn’t a Pity. All of it was enjoyable and gets a high score, but just not as high as it could have been if the project had been more focused. Loved it as always. 4/5
This album from what i listened to rang loud as a Beatles album. Very peaceful, hype, and straight forward. 7/10
Very good album! I had forgotten what a great songwriter George Harrison was. I really enjoyed the alternative versions of "What Is Life" (backing track/alternate mix) and "My Sweet Lord (2000)".
not my usual music but i love the vibes. i was crocheting to this. at first i was drawing but i wanted to crochet, luv
Classic George. Smooth voice, cool guitar work. Always was the coolest Beatle.
Actually quite entertaining because of its rock influences
I only knew two songs going in. Such a great album though! Worth listening to the entire two hours.
Fantastic. Enjoyed this whole album. George’s music is amazing
Favourite songs: What Is Life, My Sweet Lord, If Not For You, Wah-Wah, Plug Me In Least favourite songs: Beware of Darkness, Apple Scruffs, It's Johnny's Birthday, I Remember Jeep, Out of the Blue 4/5
Sometimes, you heard the right music at the right time. This album was perfect for helping cope with sad news <3
I really like start. Very long. Surprised me a lot. Me like
Avoided for a long time 'cause it was too long, but now I keep on listening because it'as a beautiful record. Even the jams at the end. 4/5 because it's still too long to become a favorite, but great songrwiting
Good things in life mostly are simple. In this sincere approach to simple beauty George has found his path which may lead you towards lengthy ways through his existentialistic garden. We find a lot of known patterns pleasing to the ears, dwell in the rustical halls where the wild sounds live and stroll over meadows of dreaming tranquility. It‘s a nice trip and I hope to find something new where I assume having already seen everything. 3.7
# 48 : I am a Beatles fan, that's why no solo work will ever get 5 stars in my view. In saying that, some of the songs on here are mega, whilst others are just so so. A lot of "B sides" that just lack the production of a truly great 5 star album. Close, but not close enough :-) What Is Life
While George is not considered the greatest songwriter of the Fab Four he is still a pretty damn good songwriter. And I think he was their best musician and he demonstrates that thoroughly on this album. A great listen top to bottom.
Mye bra, virkelig, men dette blir for langt og likt
I really liked it! Gave me Hippie Vibes!
Wah waaaaaaaah
First I need to clarify the length of this thing. The eye-watering 2hr 5min version on Spotify is the 2014 Remaster which includes 20 minutes of bonus material. So take that out. Also the album was originally released with a 28 minute bonus album "Apple Jam". So if you don't like jam-music, think of it as skippable. I think of it as a bonus. What remains is 1hr 17min of sweet tunes and gentle melodies. Consistent quality throughout. In my opinion, the best of The Beatles after The Beatles. If you don't like the fab four, this won't be for you.
Album featured a lot of different styles, from folk rock styles to more conventional rock to spiritual chants and hymns, along with extended blues jams. Songs were good in general, with some of my favorites being Isn't it a Pity, Let it Down, and Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let it Roll), but album felt really bloated, especially with the long blues jams at the end. Overall, the album wore on too long and some of the lesser songs took away from the highlights.
My sweet lord so good, fuck Spotify for only having a deluxe.
always meant to listen to this. its yonks long tbf. T1 that soundscape is gorgeous. T2 what I have learned is that I cannot and could not differentiate the voices of the different Beatles. this could be Paul 'ball is life' McCartney singing and I'd be none the wiser. Also who tf is on the boards this sounds amazing. album cover makes me wanna go visit avondale tbh. Holy fuck hear me lord is such a vibe. A way more atmospheric album than I expected. I did not listen to the apple jam disc tracks but I feel I will be likely to revisit this album to explore them. Out of the 2 post Beatles solo albums I have listened to (ram on being the other), this is the best by a wide margin. FAVS: Let it down, Beware of Darkness, Isn't it a pity V2, Hear me Lord. What a fucking vibe of an album. Turns out if you just listen to the tracks from the original version it is much much less than 2 hours long. I feel like I might feel differently upon revisits, but perhaps it still is a bit bloated. If it were only the best tracks it could be a 5, but instead I'll give it a high high 4. Great album. deserves to be on the list
Really liked hearing a George solo album. Liked my sweet lord and let it down.
A much underated album in my opinion - it contains such classics as "My Sweet Lord", "Wah-Wah", "Isn't It A Pity", and "Beware of Darkness", plus "if Not For You" ( A cover of a Bob Dylan song) and the title track "All Thnigs Must Pass". So many great songs, and his death was such a tragic loss to music.
big-sounding solo album, good tunes
A lot of good stuff, beyond the ones that got air play. The second half is straight up blues
I had a feeling he'd end up as my, so far, favorite solo Beatle. Maybe it's because I was caught in the Truck Sim headspace, but this album flowed nice and smooth and felt half as long as it actually is. Maybe George should have written more of the Beatles catalogue than what he ended up getting, but it seems Paul and John were fit to just sideline him regardless... Smells like freedom. 4/5.
I love this album -- however it is a bit long and hard to listen cover to cover. Definetly adding to my mix rotation -- Peace
Yay, finally! It was pretty good. I'd say I liked everything except the jams. I really don't like jam sessions. It was pretty long, but the fatigue didn't set in until those last few tracks. My favourite songs were My Sweet Lord, Wah Wah, and Art of Dying.
Classic album of wonderful playing on wonderful songs.
Expansive. Indulgent. But very listenable. Like an exotic ear massage. This is a giant F you to John and Paul were the geniuses of the Beatles.
What a lovely record. Probably one of the best of the post-Beatles solo albums. Track after track just unfolds like a time-lapsed flower and every listen reveals more and more depth in Harrison’s soulful playing and singing.
This is a lovely album, one the best of the Beatle solo albums. But listening today, I got a strong reminder of why I listen to All Things Must Past pretty rarely. There are about half a dozen brilliant songs on this album, and a whole lot of filler. Don't get me wrong, it's some high quality filler. Look at all the talented artists who were involved in the making of this album. The lyrics are thoughtful and spiritual and Phil Spector's production is lush and elegant. But it still feels like George Harrison just cracked open his song book after leaving the Beatles and decided to make up for lost time and record every song he had on hand. What Harrison really needed was some serious editing and no one was willing to do it. The result is a meandering album with a handful of classic tracks. Fave Songs: What Is Life, Hear Me Lord, My Sweet Lord, Isn't It a Pity, All Things Must Pass, Awaiting on You All, Wah-Wah, If Not for You, Art of Dying
my first beatles/beatles adjacent album! -george harrison has such a nice voice -i like the funky album cover too -i’d have you anytime was a sweet chill song -favorites: i’d have you anytime, wah wah -loving this guitar bit on wah wah -im genuinely SHOCKED by how much i like this album -this is definitely a four star album, nothing less than that -like the vibes of art of dying -last half of the album gets a little boring but overall its a VERY good album
I've listened to plenty of The Beatles' music throughout my life, but I've never listened to any of their solo albums before. However, I'll admit that George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set On You" is an absolute jam. I mean, come on, that sax solo is fantastic. And the music video where he's in that study with all the moving knick-knacks? Priceless. I wasn't sure what to expect with this album, but I was definitely less than enthused to see that this thing was over two hours long. However, I really enjoyed this album. I like George Harrison's singing, guitar playing, and song writing, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Combining Harrison's abilities and musical influences with Phil Spector's production capabilities helps to create an album that's big and ambitious without being overblown and self aggrandizing. I even enjoyed the Apple Jam tracks too. Sure, not every song here is a winner, but the songs that succeed are wonderful. Even though Harrison relies on several influences and sounds on this album, it always feels like a cohesive album. This is album is really good, and I'm glad I got to listen to it. Favorite track: "What Is Life"
It is indeed a good record but it’s simply too long. Not every track has the high quality I was expecting. So half of the songs would have been enough.
Ok
I'm surprised to learn George is the voice I associate most with The Beatles. I enjoyed that but nothing captured me.
The feeling of freedom, looking forward and the sadness moving on from the past runs all through this album
I honestly really enjoyed this but it by no means needed to be 2 hours.
Cracking album from my "favourite" Beatle
Un disco que cuando lo abrís parece extremadamente largo, pero es una aventura de psicodelia y rock de los beatles que dan gusto escuchar. No digo que es fascinante, pero mantener el hilo durante casi dos horas de disco es impresionante, 7/10.
George really did have a great career post-Beatles. This is a really good album, with a lot of standout tunes on it. My Sweet Lord is probably the main one, but there's a lot of others in there across a generally solid album overall. I like the guy's style. Some of the mixes do sound quite strange with the vocal mixed way back, but they're still carried by the songs. Musically it's very good. You might switch off before all the extended jams at the end, but they don't really detract from what went before.
I was hoping I'd like it, because I liked the simplicity of the album cover. So far, this is my favorite album that I've been recommended. Beautiful songwriting, amazing indie/alt project. Only critique is it is too long.
I've never really gotten into George Harrison solo material. But "My Sweet Love" is so good that this is a 4 just because of it.
A handful of solid songs and a lot of not bad, not great stuff. This is pretty much how I feel about any solo albums from The Beatles. A 3.5 bumped to a 4 because it's George Harrison.
Pretty good! Not much that was truly outstanding, but nothing bad either. A decent listen.
After all the years of trying to squeeze his songs onto a Beatles album, George Harrison announced his songwriting prowess authoritatively with this album. What a lost opportunity for the group. What an opportunity for George. The second half of Abbey Road was a bunch of half finished tracks mashed together as a medley that I could have done without. Harrison already had 2 of the 3 best tracks on the album (Something and Here Comes The Sun). Why not use some more of his good stuff? Songs like My Sweet Lord, What Is Life, and/or Awaiting On You All would have elevated Abbey Road. Maybe George already having two great songs and getting more would have been a problem for the group. Lucky for George. The third LP was always intended as a bonus disc and I can hear why. I don’t find much interesting in Out Of The Blue, which is 11+ min unfortunately. I do appreciate the other 4 bonus tracks. Overall, I learned that Harrison was more of a song writing talent than I knew. Good for him.
The fact that this was created in like a 4 month span and released a couple months later is a testament to George’s dedication to his craft. This post Beatles album really showcases his songwriting abilities as well as his ability to create such immersive sounds. Need to dive deeper, but the seed is set.
It's Looonnnggggg but you have to get to the end, there's some wonderful jams there.
Legendary folk album. Not my cup of tea though.
I really enjoyed this album and listened to it a few times over the last couple of days. Worth a purchase! 4/5
Yndisleg plata, eintóm ást!
George snapped. Def best Beatle
great album with a ton of good vibes
Täähän on aika tyylikäs veto Harrisonilta!
Very good stuff, nice standout work from the beatle
New to me, never listened to George alone, but I really liked this! At times it felt like the Beatles or Paul Simon or Bob Dylan or something else altogether. Great range of songs (perhaps too many) but it was solid through out. Gonna put it on again on a long drive for sure.
I feel like I could listen to this album forever. its got this fascinating contrast between these somewhat bland lyrics and a structurearound them that makes them feel so very very honest. George really wants to love. It also just sounds unlike anything else I've heard. Realy yum.
He definitely cottoned on how big here comes the sun was and ran with it.
Great music and songwriting with good variety too - I love how many of the songs feel like the Beatles mixed with Bob Dylan! The remixed version of the album was the only one I could find so it was definitely too long but I didn't end up wanting to skip any songs. Immaculate vibes
While really long this was a very good album with a lot of variety. I enjoyed every song on it but I feel as though this would have been better as separate albums instead of a 2 hour long album.
This is full of great music but trying to get through a 2 hour album is a chore. It has great variety with the heavy and the soft, and it features wonderful songwriting. I could have given this 5 stars if I didn’t want to rip my hair at the length.
Was a little worried heading into this one with the overall length. I’m not a big Beatles fan but George may be my favourite of the bunch after this release. Specifically the third act of this album “Apple Jam” may have been what truly won me over. It just sounded like they were having fun. The first two sections of this album were great too but I’m more likely to return to the final bit of this one be. Nicely done George! 4 stars
Oh this is fun. Did George just become my favorite Beatle? Wild.
This album is crazy, it spans so many different sounds and it just goes on so long. It seems like George had a lot to say after The Beatles. I like it a lot and there are many songs that get stuck in your head. I'm not really sure why the long jam section is on there, but it actually sounds pretty good.
Really great songwriting and I love all the slide guitar. The doubled acoustic rhythm guitar is a really cool effect too. Maybe my favorite post-Beatles record
Glorious guitar.
AJ: An Al Taddei all-timer. “Never mind the wah-wah.” Cat: George noodles are the best and make any song great. The production is awesome, layering with horn and string synthesizer lines makes it sounds so full. Poetry. AJ: Too many songs! George got shot down by the Beatles so much he exploded when he left. Can hear his excitement in certain vocals. (What is life? chorus) Maybe not the best Beatle, but certainly my favorite.
Such a beautiful album, both lyrics wise and music wise. I love listening to this one properly, paying total attention to Harrison's singing, and let him take me to the places on his mind. All Things Must Pass packs a lot of fond memories for me.
Lots of hits. Very long.
Enjoyed this album more than I expected. Some songs dragged on a little but the guitar play makes up for that.
There is a 5 star album in there somewhere, but George with all due respect, everything you record doesn't have to go on the LP or in this case LPs. I had to go back and check and this originally came out as a triple album, seriously? The fat to trim off of this is easily identifiable. I don't claim to be a professional music producer, but no album needs 4 instrumental jams. Several all-time classics surrounded by a bunch of ideas not songs (I Dig Love), Calliope music (It's Johnny's Birthday, WTF?), and the aforementioned instrumentals.
There is probably a 5-star single album buried in here. Maybe even a 5-star double album. But someone should have pulled George aside and recommended leaving out a few tracks - perhaps all of disc #3. Otherwise there is some great stuff on here. And a fair amount of filler. The great stuff is great, so 4-stars. This is a really good solo album, but I think I prefer the George Harrison stuff from his more popular band - the Traveling Willburys.
Great album With very few misses. One glaring issue was how long the damn thing was and Spotify mixing in the back tracking for songs I had already heard. I had never never heard What is Life and wow what an amazing song. Had 5 star potential but duration, it’s johnnys birthday, and apple scruff held it back
Let’s start with legitimate gripes about the album. 1) the opening track is meh and doesn’t give the album the opening punch it could’ve delivered. It’s a Bob Dylan co-write and George putting it first was basically the 1970 version of posting a hot new girlfriend on Instagram to make your ex jealous. 2) there is plenty of filler on this album. Apple Scruffs, I Dig Love, …why a second version of Isn’t It a Pity? 3) the “Apple Jam” of instrumentals and Johnny’s Birthday are fine, but don’t add anything of substance. Now, onto the good. 1) some of these individual songs are not just among the best music a solo Beatle put out, but among some of the best music any of them wrote. What is Life, Wah-Wah, My Sweet Lord, and Isn’t It a Pity are up there with Lennon/McCartney songs. 2) Phil Spector is a much at producing music than trying to not kill his wife. Listening to Awaiting On You All sounds like you’re 100 ft down a tunnel listening on a maxed out PA system. People often play the classic game of trying to cut the White Album down to a single album (don’t be friends with these people, they don’t understand the White Album). However, this record could properly be chopped into a single record and it would be considered a top 25 album in rock history? Here’s my go at it: My Sweet Lord Wah Wah Isn’t It A Pity What is Life If Not For You Behind That Locked Door Let It Down Run of the Mill Beware of Darkness Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp Awaiting On You All Art of Dying All Things Must Pass
Plaat die maar door gaat, maar leuk & gevarieerd
Excellent quality across the very long album. Potentially the best post Beatles album, if it wasn't for being far from bitesize. I love Band On The Run, but even that is not as consistent as this. Excellent.
Started off brilliantly, but second half had some unnecessary instrumentals
Great Album!
8/10 enjoyable listen.
8/10. Good music. Was worried for a bit that I'd go 2 hours on a Bri'ish album without hearing any circus music, but then Johnny's birthday saved me. Annoying that the spotify tracks aren't in the original order, but whatever
Really good, just didn’t care much for the third album instrumentals. 8/10
My Sweet Lord and What Is Life make this album automatically a banger. The rest of the album is pretty good, but those two songs are just incredible.
Any album this length is going to have a few quality control issues, but at its best this is the best solo outing of any Beatle
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: My sweet lord, What is life
I'll take off half a star because it seems a little bloated -- but great stuff overall. 4.5
Classic album - always happy to revisit
Just Beatles enough to seem familiar, just George enough to feel like a fresh take? I feel like this album shows the side that he contributed to the Beatles in the best way. I don't necessarily seek this album out, but when I start listening I'm always glad I did. I think as I continue paying more attention to the lyrics and delving more into the album I'll continue to find new things.
Very good album
George Harrison is the best! What is Life is such an amazing song, and the whole album was more eclectic than I'd expected. There were a lot of backing tracks and remasters, but still giving a solid 4 stars.
Great feelgood vibes
Very pleasant listening for a rainy day like today! 4/5
Chill ///
A lush, resplendent suite of psychedelic outpourings that suggest the former Beatle was holding a good deal of creative energy back during the final years of the band. Each track bursts with creative energy as novel chord progressions are amplified by warbling, reverb-wrapped instrumentals. Add in vocals which sit well-balanced in the mix and straddle the perfect line between simple and meaningful, and you have an absolute sonic treat that spills, soars, and ensconces for close to two hours on end. The jam sessions are a fun if noncommittal bonus, a bit of gritty, grounded palate-cleanser guitar and drums that can serve as an optional epilogue without being required listening.
Probably my favorite solo Beatles album. The first 4 tracks start this off beautifully, and it hardly lets you down from there. I dig the Apple Jams side too. 8/10
The jam band stuff is pretty bad but the rest is great. Had only heard My Sweet Lord before, glad I've checked it out properly
very nice
Full disclosure: I've owned this album for years and I don't think I've actually listened to all 3 LP's, for sure not at the same time. To properly review this sprawling album set, I did listen to all of it and my immediate impression is that if it was a single album it would be hands down 5 stars. Even as a double album, it's loaded with good songs (a couple of his best) some filler and it's still a rewarding listen. The third album contains the longer jams, which is interesting, but in modern day releases, this would be the bonus tracks separate from the main album. As it is overall, this is Harrison's masterpiece, with world class musician friends as support and it's truly is an epic record, too bad it's a tad bit long.
Surprisingly good, I feel like George deserves a better reputation as a solo Beatle. Really not sure why he felt like he needed to keep the 20-minute instrumental jam session at the end of this already slightly overlong album though.
I think one of the "1001 Albums..." reviewers put it nicely: "All things must pass quality control". This could have been a real masterpiece with some more quality control, including removing some of the weakest songs. As it is, max four stars.
Album avec de très bons morceaux mais beaucoup trop long.
PREFS : My Sweet Lord, Wah-Wah, Isn't It a Pity (Version One), What is Life, Let It Down, Run of the Mill, Beware of Darkness, Apple Scruffs, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), Awaiting on You All, All Things Must Pass, I Dig Love, Art of Dying, Isn't It a Pity (Version Two) MOINS PREF : Plug Me In
This was a tough one. Mostly because George Harrison is a certifiable songwriting genius - one of the greatest that ever lived - and it should have been a slam dunk 5 stars. Should have been. But there's so much stuff unpacked here. Just... so much. It's too much. There are a ton of great tracks here. So many bangers that, had George been willing to cut even a third of the songs, it would be an unbelievable tour de force. But he couldn't let any of them go and so we're left with two hours of mostly great tracks. I can't give it a 5 star review. But I can't stand to give it anything short of 4 stars.
i love love love him
Easily as good, or better, than anything John or Paul did in their solo careers. Damn shame George's talent was subjugated, if not downright ignored, with the Beatles.
Classic
vrij vriendelijke rock, best priem
Vibes are immaculate, but this album is TOO LONG, GEORGE.
What a lovely George album. It is so George and George is so lovely love love love
4.0 - It feels like hanging out with a favorite uncle. He smiles at you from his chair, telling stories of his youth, giving subtle whiffs of his devilish past. But he’s mellowed over time into a loving older man. You’re happy to bask in his comforting presence for a little while but soon wonder what your cousins are up to. He asks for a hug before you leave.
What a great album. If there was any doubt that the “quiet Beatle” was the best songwriter, listen to this record.
Great album with some stand out songs. I don’t think it’s slightly on the long side though, cut it back to a single album for five stars
I'd heard of this album but was surprised to read about how much more successful it was than the other Beatles' solo efforts. Interesting. As a lad, hearing My Sweet Lord almost made me want to become religious. It still kinda does to be honest. There are a few other great songs in that same lovely vein (maybe not quite as divine), and a couple of fun rockers for good measure. Yup, I'm getting good vibes from this one. 3.5 / 4
Didnt listen fully to it. What I heard I really liked
Mahtava albumi.
4.5
Probablement le meilleur projet "Beatles related" que j'ai entendu à date. Seulement quelques chansons étaient un peu moins wow, mais elles restaient bonne pareil. Très bon album
It’s very good and great in places. Lacks cohesion though, and there is some definite filler in the very sprawling mix. There’s a real masterpiece somewhere in a more tightly edited album.
Meget bra, beware of darkness er veldig fin! (Litt mye hare krishna innimellom)
George Harrison has such a happy loving feel to his music. I realised that most of my favourite Beatles songs hold his influence. It’s has “my sweet lord” which is one of my favourites. It ends with some awesome blues tracks. Really enjoyed it :)
That hippie's pretty good.
I knew more songs that I thought I would, and I love George’s voice. Some songs weren’t for me, but I enjoyed listening overall!
I’m feeling optimistic today and I’ll have that rub off on my thoughts of this. album. I was not expecting a good album, I’m not sure why- but this took me by surprise in a good way. I would definitely listen to this again and be happy.
I'm not entirely sure why this album didn't connect with me when I was younger. There are no songs that are worse than average and the best are truly excellent. Lennon/McCartney definitely edged out a great songwriter and it really would have been nice to perhaps have heard many of these songs as Beatles songs, accompanied by their musicianship and backing vocals. Having said that there's a sameness that takes over and perhaps I was more picky about that in previous years - I do wonder if there was some inherent bias by my expecting or wanting to hear J/P/R sing a bit after listening to so much George over and over. Although that's not fair - this is his damn album. Still, it's kind of impossible to separate each of the Beatles' solo work from their former group. Unfair for sure but how can you not. e.g. there's not as much edginess with George's solo material and as a result if it's missing anything it's a bit of that old mystique. I'm a little harsh tho as aside from the great classic hits a song like "Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp" provides a bit of that and almost sounds like a precursor to Peter Gabriel+Genesis. "Art of Dying" is another hidden gem. I will say that it's too long, although understandable since he was apparently yearning to break out and write his own material. At any rate blah blah it really is an excellent album overall and worthy of classic status. 8/10 4 stars
Jättebra platta men varför gör de dem så jävla långa?
good album, enjoyed the Beatle-esque sound!
Pretty good
Good but could have lost a good few tracks. Some of them you’re like “Lennon and McCartney were cunts not letting him put this on” and others you’re like “yeah they had a point fuck this”
Great start. Got a bit odd at the end.
Liked the Jams at the end
Apprezzo più grinta nella musica ma non posso mettere meno di 4 a George Harrison per la sua chitarra e la sua voce.
4.5
Bastante bueno para ser el primero, chill y relajante, me gusta para un viaje en carretera 25|11|22
p212. 1970. 4 stars How to emerge from the long shadow of The Beatles in style. Far too long - does anyone really need a triple album? - and a lot of the third disc is pure instrumental filler. When it's good, its very good indeed - with judicious editing this would have been a 5 star single (maybe even a double) album.
I guess the normal album is pretty good, the remastered is a bit long and with tons of useless songs tho
Too long.
Really liked it
En fjärdedel av Beatles kan ju inte vara dåligt.
I've been getting a lot of records lately that I couldn't possibly be biased on. This is one of my dad's favorites, so much so that I have quite a few memories of listening to this in the car when the remaster came out. It's a solid record, very spiritual, with a huge cast of fantastic backing musicians. "Epic" is probably a strong word but it's what I'd use to describe the scope. Maybe somewhere on the same level as "Pet Sounds", just not as well remembered. Could it have done with some trimming? Sure. But man, it's a solid record even without that. Favorite tracks: "All Things Must Pass", "Wah-Wah", "My Sweet Lord", "I Dig Love"
This was recommended to me by an acquaintance a while back, and I only got to it relatively recently for the first time. On second listen, much of the middle recedes, even under the modern mixing regime. But when Isn't It A Pity arrives a second time, dark and wobbly below Harrison's voice, the record has me again. The last disc even works as a kind of explosion of the material just heard. Wonderful pop just on the right side of "out there".
4.5 stars. A great solo debut by my favorite Beatle
Fantastic of course.
3.5 maybe, I like it better than a lot of the beatles
Favorite Songs: I'd Have you Anytime, My Sweet Lord Did not know that George Harrison was the lead guitarist for the Beatles. I can hear some inspiration from it.
I want to give it 5 stars. It's mostly a hugely enjoyable album, filled with genuinely great tracks. I can't quite give it 5 stars just due to how long it is, plus the awful track reordering in the remastered versions.
Nice album, very slow, little bit cheesy
The little ode to Johnny B Goode on "Thanks for the Pepperoni" was a nice surprise.
listened to again possibly Harrison's greatest work
Some really fantastic songs on this album
good album
‘What is life’ is een van mijn favoriete nummers ooit. Mooie plaat, wel een beetje lang :)
A triple album? How am I supposed to keep up with this pace with 2hrs of music to get through?! Just kidding, though I am subtracting a star for the inclusion of the long jam-my tracks at the end. And I’m adding a star for being directly responsible for the formation of Derek and the Dominoes. That’s a rule of cool. Summary? 4 stars. Some really dense musical bits in this and you can see how Harrison simply wanted to show that he wasn’t “the 3rd Beatle”. Also, I love the dig at the Beatles with the album cover photograph.
There are some songs I really enjoy on this album, but also some that can be a bit dreary, and some is a bit dated for my age. Overall a classic album with plenty of foot tapping tunes, style changes making it a bit of a journey.
This was my first one, so I guess it was a strong start. I get it. I really have a historical appreciation for all of the Hare Krishna stuff that this is packed with now that I've heard it in its entirety.
Did not know he was in the Beatles, felt culty
Sí es un gran disco aunque soy el más fan. I'd Have You Anytime, Wah-Wah, What Is Life son las que más me gustaron.
Wonderful listen, not a single song skipped. Great features from Clapton, Billy Preston and more. Really enjoyed listening to the whole thing front to back.
Great album that I have 2 relatively small issues with that are tied together. First is that the jam session at the end of this triple album is alright but nothing overall spectacular. And the second is the fact that it's a triple album and it's absolutely too long. There are some truly amazing songs here but I don't think I'm going to come back to this record frequently purely because of its length.
Pleasant to listen, will definitely revisit. While the songs work very well and at no point was I bored I am not sure it works well as an album composition though.
Liked it, Saylor said it is sleepy music..
Enjoyed this album. I do prefer my Beatles together but still enjoyable, except one song, It's Johnny's Birthday, I think that song is going to haunt my dreams.
This album is an absolute masterclass. I didn’t know I was a big George Harrison fan until today. Any album that has this much material is bound to have filler and it did but there’s so much to like here. No album should be 2 hours long though. That’s absurd.
Pleasantly there
George was writing most of these songs through the years as a Beatle, but they weren't up to the "quality" of the Lennon/McCartney songwriting duo to be Beatle songs. And for the most part, John and Paul were right. There are some all-time great songs in the 2 hours of tracks here, but the album as a whole is not the best. It's as if George couldn't make up his mind on what to include. That being said, Beware of Darkness is one of my most favorite songs and that alone makes this album a 4/5 for me. Be patient with this one, it will reward you by Side Three.
Interesting mix of happy-go-lucky and faster rock. Definitely a go to style of mine
Superb.
3.9
A bit too long, but definitely some great tracks. Being stuck behind two musical genius' must have been stifling and this seems like a real cathartic album.
Side 1 : Nice !! Wah Wah un peu brouillon cependant Side 2 : Très cool aussi, un poil moins convaincants et moins surprenant Side 3 : Un peu en dessous Side 4 : Nice, malgré la longueur c’est good Side 5 : s’ouvre sur un long out of the blue, électrique très cool. L’album s’electrife clairement!! Side 6 : L’évolution de l’album est folle mdrrr Album long, mais agréable et super évolutif 3.5+/5
